- 0:04Welcome to the For Freedom podcast.
- 0:10I found my freedom in you. I found a joy I can't lose.
- 0:19Thank God it's true. You wrapped your arms around me
- 0:24and heaven broke through. From the moment she found me, I
- 0:29found my freedom in. This podcast exists to bring the
- 0:35freedom of the gospel for everyday Christians with
- 0:38everyday issues. Now here are your hosts, James
- 0:42Seyfried and Brett Martin. Welcome back to the For Freedom
- 0:49Podcast. We've got some great things
- 0:51planned for you today. We've got some great things
- 0:53coming up in the next few weeks that we're just excited about.
- 0:58I can't wait to share those with you today, But man, we've just
- 1:02been loving life and doing church and doing ministry and
- 1:05preaching the gospel and just loving every minute of serving
- 1:10the Lord. But James, what's what's going
- 1:13on over in your neck of the woods?
- 1:15Man, yeah, we are doing well. Of course we're still getting
- 1:18settled in in our new church and man loving first of the year.
- 1:23We've preached through our mission statement the first week
- 1:26of the year and the last couple weeks we've been talking about
- 1:29our core values and so we're spending about 3-2 to three
- 1:33weeks on each core values. So we're in core value #1, which
- 1:37is glorify God, which I think is where we should start all of our
- 1:40lives at. And so it just helps our church
- 1:42know where we're at. And so we're preaching through
- 1:44what it means to glorify God through worship, through prayer,
- 1:48our first couple of weeks on that and then we'll be going
- 1:51into growing together in a couple of weeks.
- 1:54And so, man, we are pumped and excited about that.
- 1:57I'll tell you what. Tell me.
- 1:59Let me let me tell you something that I did yesterday.
- 2:01Yesterday. I'm in my office reading through
- 2:05my sermon. I'm preparing it and before I go
- 2:09out to preach, I have a few minutes before I go out and
- 2:13start shaking hands where I look through my phone and I'm looking
- 2:16through my phone and there's a live going and it's for Pleasant
- 2:20Grove Baptist Church and I open it up and I see old James up
- 2:25there leading the music. So the thing about it is, is
- 2:29that when you sing on those Facebook lives, it isolates the
- 2:34vocals. So it's like James is singing
- 2:38solo and man, you've got some good pipes on you, you know, you
- 2:42know, you've got some, you know, I don't, I don't think that old
- 2:46Simon Cowell would hit his X button for you.
- 2:48So, you know, I think you're doing a good job up there
- 2:50pulling double duty. Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 2:53We, our music lady, she is having a little bit of health
- 2:57problems and so she asked me if she could take the month of
- 3:00January off. And so at first I'm like, no,
- 3:04but it's hard for me to tell someone who's not getting paid
- 3:07or anything, Hey, no, you have to be here.
- 3:09And so the last couple of weeks I have led music, led the choir,
- 3:14we've had choir practice. I'm not a singer by any means.
- 3:18But man, Brett, I'm telling you the last couple of weeks I've
- 3:21LED music and I told my wife, I said singing for 1020 minutes,
- 3:2715 minutes. As you lead through that, I said
- 3:30you're using different part of your vocal cords for then when
- 3:33you turn around to preach, I said I feel like I'm just
- 3:36yelling sometimes and I get done.
- 3:38It's like I don't even have a voice.
- 3:40Like I get done preaching and I come down, we have our
- 3:42invitation time response and that that that those couple of
- 3:46minutes there, my voice rest and then I go to talk again and my
- 3:49voice cracks and it's like I'm raspy.
- 3:51It's like my voice held up while I was preaching and speaking and
- 3:54then I got done. It was like boom, nothing.
- 3:57Like, I don't have a voice left anymore, so it's been
- 4:00interesting. I I did it for six years at my
- 4:03last church. For six years I was the pastor
- 4:07and the song director and brother.
- 4:10I definitely can sympathize, sympathize with you because
- 4:13sometimes you just you strain your voice so much and then you
- 4:16got to get up there and preach and it it's definitely not fun.
- 4:20Yeah. So it's been great.
- 4:22We've been having a good time with that and you know for me
- 4:25it's I'm able to curtail the music a little bit more because
- 4:28I know what I'm preaching so I'm, I'm developing those musics
- 4:32along with it. So we're we're we're geared the
- 4:35worship service toward it. So I've enjoyed doing that.
- 4:38But I I will look forward to when someone else is able to
- 4:42step in and and lead so I don't have to.
- 4:46But yeah, it's been great. It's been cold these last couple
- 4:49of weeks. It's been a great time and
- 4:52church is doing well. I appreciate you listening and
- 4:55tuning in on my message there and I've I've loved your little
- 4:59clips that you put out from your church there, Rocky Point and
- 5:02but man the church is doing well.
- 5:05We're seeing we had two first time guests this past week on a
- 5:08down Sunday when it was cold. You've you've gotten some ice.
- 5:12We haven't gotten any ice it's just been cold.
- 5:15No snow or anything, just really cold.
- 5:17But we've had a little bit of sickness come through our house
- 5:20and also in the church. So we've seen some some ups and
- 5:25downs as far as as numeric people go.
- 5:27But it's been been great and I think we're getting some good
- 5:31response from our core values and our mission statement and so
- 5:35really, really excited about that.
- 5:36You know that we don't get paid to do the for Freedom podcast.
- 5:40This is sort of a side hobby. So, so pastoring and preaching
- 5:44is our our main thing. And so being able to see lives
- 5:47changed. I got a lady that Brett, you'll
- 5:49like this, that came to me Sunday after I got done
- 5:52preaching. She hung around afterwards.
- 5:55She's had some marriage problems.
- 5:56She's left her husband, her husband left her, I don't know
- 5:59the whole story. She's got a couple of kids and
- 6:02she came to me afterwards and she said, hey, pastor, she said
- 6:05I want to get baptized. She said I've never, never
- 6:08followed the Lord and believers baptism and I'm like, dude, I'm
- 6:11stoked. It's awesome, like lives are
- 6:13being affected and it's just been great.
- 6:16So I I I figured you'd appreciate that too.
- 6:19Dude, that's that's awesome, bro.
- 6:21That's, that's what we're in it for.
- 6:23That's what we're here to do. I as well, in the month of
- 6:27January am introducing a new mission statement, vision
- 6:31statement to the church, and we've been preaching through it
- 6:35through the month of January. I think things have been good,
- 6:37man. We had a really, really
- 6:41yesterday. I mean the the house was packed
- 6:44and we had a lot of people there.
- 6:46I had one of my deacons get up and you know, it was Sanctity of
- 6:50Life Sunday for our convention. And so I had one of my deacons
- 6:56get up. He's the assistant chairman.
- 6:59He's also teaches our teenagers and talked for about 5 minutes
- 7:03on Sanctity of life. And man did an awesome job.
- 7:07So great. Bruce did an awesome, awesome
- 7:10job. He's been a school teacher for
- 7:12for years and years and years. But he loves the Lord and Manny,
- 7:17he did a great job. We had a good response from the
- 7:20message and one of the things we're doing at our church that
- 7:23I'm really excited about is we're starting to praise band
- 7:27and we're we're we're getting that together.
- 7:31We've got some, we've got players we need singers.
- 7:34We've got some singers that we're going to audition soon
- 7:37that are don't attend our church but our friends to our church.
- 7:41And we're thinking maybe doing this on like Friday, Saturday
- 7:44nights have like, you know, youth meet explosions and you
- 7:49know, maybe every quarter or so have the praise team do do a
- 7:54contempt service. And I'm excited about what
- 7:57that's going to bring in for the church.
- 7:59And we're expanding, we're expanding our fellowship hall,
- 8:03getting a bigger kitchen, bigger deck, bigger bathrooms and it,
- 8:09you know, we're just expanding because we, we don't have the
- 8:11room. We've grown to the point where
- 8:14we just don't have the room anymore and we got to get bigger
- 8:18and that's a that's a good problem to have.
- 8:20It is. So I'm just excited about what
- 8:23the Lord's got for us and I'm just excited about church.
- 8:27Man, I love church. You know, I've went to church
- 8:31from the time I was 1213 years old.
- 8:35My mom took me sporadically before that, but man, from the
- 8:40time I was 12/13 I just went to church every week and that I
- 8:44love church. I love my church family, I love
- 8:49being around the people in church, and I just don't know
- 8:53what my life would be without the body of Christ.
- 8:57That's fantastic. Same here.
- 8:59You know, I I've been going to church since I was a baby.
- 9:03I think I shared a couple weeks ago where I was born on a
- 9:06Thursday and begin going to church on a Sunday.
- 9:10And so I've been in church my whole life.
- 9:13I remember there's a picture of me when our church was running
- 9:17the bus ministry of me in a car seat and my mom driving the bus
- 9:21and my dad leading the bus program on the bus there.
- 9:25And I'm a I'm a bus kid as a kid in a car seat.
- 9:29And so the church again, yeah, it's, it's my life.
- 9:32It's everything. My family's in it.
- 9:35We talked about that yesterday in our message of just serving
- 9:39as a family and having that family worship, which leads us
- 9:42right into where we're going to be going over the next month or
- 9:45so, which is in the church. We're going to do a series of in
- 9:50the church and what that looks like.
- 9:51We're titling it freedom in the church.
- 9:55And as we look through we're going to be discussing several
- 9:59different topics. We're we're discussing topics
- 10:01such as abuse. We'll be talking about worship
- 10:05and music in the church. We're going to be talking about
- 10:08dress in the church. One of our Brett, our very most
- 10:13listened to episode. You may not know this, you don't
- 10:16get the analytics, but is our episode we did on modesty and
- 10:21it's gotten thousands of downloads and people still go
- 10:26and listen to that episode. It's one of our most listened to
- 10:29every single month. And so we're going to be
- 10:32discussing modesty again, but that was a specific women
- 10:37modesty. We're going to be discussing it
- 10:39as far as dress for men and women, the service and structure
- 10:43in the church translations, as far as the Bible, preaching
- 10:47styles and several several different other topics.
- 10:51As we begin to just talk through what is the church, how does the
- 10:55church function and how do we have freedom in the church.
- 10:58Brett, why, why don't you talk a little bit about that?
- 11:00Because I think often times in our life we do church the way
- 11:05we've always done church or the way we were told the church is
- 11:08supposed to be done. And as we begin to grow in our
- 11:12faith and we're in a different style or different county or
- 11:16different state churches done differently.
- 11:19You know I I I was raised in a in a pretty metropolitan area
- 11:23and so it wasn't huge by any means but rural church where I'm
- 11:28at now in a very rural country family style church is done very
- 11:33differently than the way I was raised.
- 11:36And so we're beginning to see and having to adapt the way we
- 11:38do ministry. But often times that can be a
- 11:44downfall or a hindrance to us when we come to worship, because
- 11:47we expect it to be done a certain way.
- 11:50And so tell us a little bit about your experience and about
- 11:52what your thoughts are as we go into the series.
- 11:55Well, you know, of course, growing up in, you know,
- 11:59legalistic churches that we attended and I attended, you
- 12:04know, everybody did church the same way.
- 12:06It was the same thing. And then there were little
- 12:08differences here and there. Like, for instance, my church
- 12:12growing up, they would stand up and shake hands while the piano
- 12:16played handshake in time. And, you know, I didn't see that
- 12:20in some of the other churches I went to.
- 12:22But for the most part, church in our circle of fundamentalism was
- 12:27always done the same. And if you strayed from that, if
- 12:31you went outside of that box, you were wrong.
- 12:35You, you're not doing church the way it used to be done.
- 12:38You're not doing church the way it was done back in the 1950s.
- 12:42And you're a Sinner and a compromiser.
- 12:47And I knew coming out of that that I wanted to change.
- 12:52I wanted to do something different.
- 12:54But my thing is, is I didn't know how.
- 12:57I didn't know how to do church difference.
- 13:00So when I left my IFB church and went and pastored my First
- 13:06Southern Baptist church, I only knew how to do church one way.
- 13:10So I just did church the way I had always done it and kind of
- 13:14started to turn my little Southern Baptist church into a
- 13:19little mini Independent Baptist Church because I didn't know any
- 13:22other way to do church. One of the one of the biggest
- 13:27things that it took for me to get used to one of the hardest
- 13:31hurdles that we had to kind of get past was when I took this
- 13:35new church. They did not have a Sunday night
- 13:37service. And then just the guilt and the
- 13:41shame that we experienced for not having a Sunday night
- 13:46service. And I remember getting to that
- 13:49church and thinking our first Sunday night, man, we got to go
- 13:54to church somewhere. So we went to the closest
- 13:57Independent Baptist Church to us and we used to went there a
- 14:01couple Sunday nights. We started jumping around and
- 14:04going to different church on Sunday nights.
- 14:07And even though our church didn't have a Sunday night
- 14:09service, we would still go to church on Sunday nights.
- 14:12Until I came to the point where I was like, OK, let's just,
- 14:16let's just stay home. Let's just try it.
- 14:20And So what we did is we stayed home from church and we didn't
- 14:24go to church on Sunday night. And the feeling was so weird
- 14:28because you know, three to three to thrive.
- 14:31Man. Sunday morning, Sunday night,
- 14:33Wednesday night, that's what you need to be a good Christian.
- 14:37And I remember that first night we stayed home, it was a little
- 14:41awkward. But then the next night, then
- 14:44the next week and the next week, that time not going to Sunday
- 14:49night church. Just that family time, did more
- 14:54to bring our family together. And you know, I was working a
- 14:58lot. I was working 50-60 hours a
- 15:00week, and so my wife was working and she, she was homeschooling
- 15:05the kids and so and we're also doing church stuff, so we're
- 15:09busy going every day. We had something to do.
- 15:13So that time we had as a family on Sunday nights together,
- 15:17playing a board game, watching a movie, going to a restaurant,
- 15:23just doing things together, did more for my marriage and more
- 15:27for our family as a whole. That that gave it really.
- 15:33It gave us healing because when we come out of the IFB, we were
- 15:37hurt, we had been run over, we had been verbally abused and
- 15:42spiritually abused, and we had been put through the wringer to
- 15:47the point where I almost lost my faith over this.
- 15:51And then those Sunday nights, just spending time with my
- 15:54family, getting the word of God in the morning and then at night
- 15:58having that family time. Man, it did so much to heal our
- 16:03family and really so much to bring us closer to God than
- 16:08anything else we experienced during that time.
- 16:12And then it would that experience my first church out
- 16:15of the Independent Baptist Church.
- 16:17It was just a learning curve of trying to learn the right way to
- 16:22do things and the right way to process things and get out of
- 16:26this mentality that there's only one way to do it.
- 16:30And if you don't do it this way, it's not right.
- 16:33And that's why I'm excited about this series, because this is
- 16:38what I needed when I came out of legalism.
- 16:42I needed this type of series, the process, what I had been
- 16:46through and to explore the correct way to do it moving
- 16:52forward and what's the right way to proceed in church.
- 16:56And so I'm just excited about this series and I'm ready for it
- 17:02because like I said when I came out of it, this is something
- 17:05that I desperately needed. Absolutely.
- 17:09One of the things that we're so looking forward to, I know me
- 17:12personally, is we've got some stellar interviews lined up.
- 17:15We've got Bob Coughlin coming on here in a couple of weeks.
- 17:18Some of you may not know who that is.
- 17:20He's part of Sovereign Grace Music, just a fantastic worship
- 17:24guy and done a lot of seminars and teaching and preaching on
- 17:27worship. Jim New Heiser in a couple of
- 17:30weeks will be coming on, but Brett, one of our got off the
- 17:33phone with this young man. I'm going to call him a young
- 17:36man got the phone off the phone with him just a couple of days
- 17:40ago and that we were talking about our episode.
- 17:42I haven't even shared this with you.
- 17:44And it's Brian Edwards and he's going to come on and he's going
- 17:48to talk through the evolution of church with Hope Church.
- 17:53It's a Hope Church started out as blessed Hope Baptist Church
- 17:56and they went to Hope Baptist Church and then they went to
- 17:59Hope Church and the evolution of how that formed and how that
- 18:04moved with the changing of them evolving and them growing and
- 18:09knowing how to do things. I'm so excited about him sharing
- 18:13that with us because it's going to help us to see that things
- 18:18don't always have to be the way, quote UN quote, the way we've
- 18:21always been told it should be done.
- 18:23And you know, as you were sharing my mind went to the old
- 18:27story illustration of the the young lady that was cooking a
- 18:32roast. And she chopped off the the
- 18:35front and back into the roast and put it in the pan.
- 18:38Then put the pan in the oven. I mean chopped off a couple of
- 18:41pounds of meat and and put it into the oven and begin cooking
- 18:44it. And one day the grandma was over
- 18:47there and she said, what are you doing?
- 18:48And she said, well, this is the way my mom taught me.
- 18:51She said this is the way you taught her.
- 18:53And she said, well, I did that because our oven was too small,
- 18:56the roast wouldn't fit in and so I had to chop the ends off of
- 19:00the the roast. And so now it was, this is the
- 19:04way mom told me to do it. And so I've got to do it that
- 19:07way. But when grandma came over,
- 19:08she's like, no, if I had a bigger oven, I wouldn't be
- 19:11chopping the ends off. But so often it's because it was
- 19:15done 506080 years ago. Well, then it has to be done
- 19:19this way now, when in reality we need to get back to the way the
- 19:23New Testament church operated and do church that way.
- 19:27And so I'm so looking forward to some of these topics, some of
- 19:30these interviews that we've got lined up with men and women that
- 19:34are just going to be fantastic assets to us and to learn from.
- 19:38And I've shared this often and I'm, I really appreciate that
- 19:41you said it, Brett, because we do feel like sometimes we're on
- 19:44an island when we come out of legalism, when we come out of
- 19:47what we were at. And these are episodes that are
- 19:51going to help us as we move forward in any stage or or
- 19:55situation that you're in, in the church.
- 19:58Some of you may be, you know, questioning church altogether.
- 20:01Should I even be in church? Is church even a a thing that I
- 20:05should be in? And so this helps us to
- 20:07understand, helps us to process things, helps us to verbalize
- 20:11some things that we're in. And that's what we hope you're
- 20:13going to enjoy this. We hope you'll share some of
- 20:15these episodes that help you with other people.
- 20:18And man, we're so looking forward to what we've got going
- 20:21on. One thing, that another thing
- 20:25that I thought of that we need to talk about, and I don't know
- 20:27if this is on the list. If it's not, we can put it on
- 20:30there. But it's different forms of
- 20:33outreach. You know, when we're, you know,
- 20:37sometimes Independent Baptist churches, we have this idea door
- 20:42knocking, door knocking, door knocking, door knocking, door
- 20:44knocking is the only way to do it.
- 20:46And don't get me wrong, as a pastor you should be knocking
- 20:49doors. As a pastor, you should go door
- 20:52to door, you should go house to house.
- 20:53You should invite people. I'm not saying don't do that,
- 20:57but that's not the end all and be all.
- 20:59That's not the only way to do it and it's definitely not the best
- 21:02way to do it. There are other options.
- 21:05One of the things we're doing in our church in the next couple
- 21:09months is we're actually starting an outreach team.
- 21:13And this is going to be people in our church that are going to
- 21:16going to. We're going to get together with
- 21:18me and we're going to talk about different, you know, brainstorm
- 21:22on different ideas. We're going to innovate and try
- 21:25to think of different ways we can reach our community, how we
- 21:29can implement those, how we can carry them out.
- 21:33And I'm excited about it. I mean, I know when we go to,
- 21:36when we go to the for the Sake of the Gospel conference, this
- 21:41coming November, me and you are going to start a bus route at J
- 21:45CS Church. You know, we're going to, you
- 21:47know, get out there and you know, we're going to be. 1000%
- 21:51We're going to be drink eating goldfish and we're going to have
- 21:54world largest ice cream sundae in one week and we're going to
- 21:57get him a bus route going. So he, you know, he'll he'll
- 22:00need to get ACDL or get right with God.
- 22:03Absolute 100% we are doing that and so hopefully John will be
- 22:07there too to help us and you can help us.
- 22:10You can maybe start best bus number 2 as we start bus route
- 22:13#1 and so it's going to be. Great.
- 22:16We're number one, We're. Number one.
- 22:18That's right. That's right.
- 22:20But yeah, we're excited. Hey, I just added outreach to
- 22:23the list of topics as well. Maybe you've got a list.
- 22:26Maybe you've got an idea of something that you would like
- 22:29for us to talk about. Leave us a message.
- 22:32You can reach out to us on our social media websites.
- 22:35You can reach out to us on our e-mail.
- 22:37And you can let us know some things that you would like for
- 22:40us to talk about through some areas that you've had questions
- 22:43about and that you would like us to dissect a little bit more.
- 22:48And so, Brett, any any final thoughts before we wrap up the
- 22:51episode? I got a question for you.
- 22:53I just kind of thought of can you name, I know you may watch
- 22:58other church services or you know other people can you name
- 23:03just like a church service that you watch that you're just like
- 23:06man, that's kind of that's kind of the way church needs to be
- 23:11run. And not saying you want to copy
- 23:14that verbatim but just thinking man, that's just a great way to
- 23:18do church. And I'll go first, give you time
- 23:21to think. And I think that that's Matt
- 23:24Dudley's church, you know, The Ridge in Sullivan, MO.
- 23:28You know, I watched the way he does church from time to time.
- 23:34And man, I think that that's just, he's got a great thing out
- 23:38there. He's got a great ministry, his
- 23:41preaching, the music, the atmosphere that they've created
- 23:46at The Ridge. I want to give a shout out to
- 23:49him and his church. They just got a new building.
- 23:53I pray for that ministry because I've been there a couple times.
- 23:57Matt's a good friend of mine, and I really think they're doing
- 24:01a great job out there at The Ridge.
- 24:05And I wouldn't, you know, encourage anyone to just get on
- 24:09Facebook and go watch one of their services and it'll just
- 24:12blow you away. What's going on out there in
- 24:16Sullivan, MO? Do you have any pastors or
- 24:19churches that maybe from time to time you look up and watch and
- 24:24think, man, that's just that's just a great way to do church.
- 24:28Yeah, I'll mention two One will be a place called Nebo Crossing
- 24:33Bob Ritter. I like listening to him.
- 24:36I like his style of preaching. It's it's very I would say
- 24:41informal but he's he's a great communicator And then his
- 24:45worship there my sister in law's and the worship team and just
- 24:48doing some great things up in North Carolina.
- 24:50The other one that I would say we mentioned it a little bit but
- 24:53Hope Church the thing that I I so love about what Brian's doing
- 24:57and with Hope Church and you know we were in the talks of
- 25:00even possibly helping out with that me and my wife and being a
- 25:03part of one of those church plants but it Lord didn't see
- 25:07fit and so we're just continuing to serve him.
- 25:10But one of the things that I loved when we were looking at it
- 25:13is each one of the Hope church locations are completely
- 25:16different than the other one. It's not this plug and play.
- 25:20You're going to do it this way and you're going to go in and
- 25:24and Brian said like this. He said each one of them are
- 25:25different because we use the skill sets that are at each one
- 25:29of them. He said that at my location we
- 25:32may have a full praise team, drums, electric guitar, you
- 25:36know, an acoustic guitar, he said.
- 25:39But you know, maybe over at Roxburgh or at Thomasville or
- 25:41one of the other locations, they are more of a rural country
- 25:45style church and they've got a banjo, an acoustic guitar and a
- 25:48Cajon. And they said the style of
- 25:51worship is completely different. The way they teach is completely
- 25:53different. And I think that's what what
- 25:56what is so important in ministry is that we figure out what works
- 26:02for us. We figure out the skill set that
- 26:04God has gifted that specific church at and then lean into
- 26:08that. You may not have an electric
- 26:10guitar player. You may not have a a a drummer,
- 26:14but you may have someone that can beat a box drum.
- 26:15And so you give them their, their tools and you allow that
- 26:18to happen. And you may have a person that
- 26:21can play a banjo or a Kanjan or whatever it may be and all of a
- 26:26sudden you begin to build your worship around the the people
- 26:30and the gifts that God's given you in that area.
- 26:33And I think that's what's so appealing to what Brian's doing
- 26:35because he's not saying, OK, we're going to be a hope church
- 26:38and this is what you need to look like.
- 26:40You need to look like what we're doing in Danville, he says.
- 26:43This is Hope Church, and it's going to look like what Hope
- 26:46Church looks like in that area. And I think it's we would be
- 26:50wise to figure out what our area looks like and begin to build
- 26:55our church around what that looks like in our community.
- 26:58The church at Philippi was completely different to this
- 27:00church at Galatia and the church at Colossae and the church at
- 27:06all these other places. They were all different.
- 27:07Paul wrote a different letter to each of them because they have
- 27:10their own strengths and weaknesses that they needed to
- 27:13be addressed. John, in the Book of Revelation,
- 27:16each one of those seven churches got a different letter from
- 27:19Jesus because Jesus knew that each one of them needed
- 27:24different correction or different encouragement.
- 27:26The church at Philippa or the church at Philadelphia was not a
- 27:31was not going to benefit from the letter from Laodicea because
- 27:33they were a two different churches that were struggling in
- 27:36two different areas. And so for me, that would be
- 27:40what I would encourage people to do, is begin to to look around
- 27:44and see the the strengths and weaknesses in your own
- 27:46community. Absolute, Absolutely.
- 27:51That is such a good word. It's something that we need to
- 27:54take into consideration that, you know, it's just not all
- 27:57cookie cutter, it's just not all, you know, the same thing.
- 28:01We're different as individuals. Just like, you know, each
- 28:04individual is different and has their own.
- 28:06I talked about yesterday, I talked about church being a big
- 28:11potluck and how each person brings their own dish.
- 28:17And by that dish, by itself, it doesn't make a meal.
- 28:22But you know, but not, you know, not every.
- 28:24We put all those dishes together and you get a church.
- 28:27And now it's going to be different every time.
- 28:30You're not always going to have the same items, but not
- 28:33everybody's going to bring string beans.
- 28:36Somebody's going to bring a meat, somebody's going to bring
- 28:38a side, somebody's going to bring a dessert.
- 28:40But man, when it all comes together, it works in perfect
- 28:43harmony. And it it's different.
- 28:46It's unique and that's what's great about it.
- 28:50And we don't need to strive. You just all be this same church
- 28:55that were stamped out that we learned in some Bible college
- 28:59somewhere that, you know, I wrote this book on how to do
- 29:03church and you need to do church just this way.
- 29:06You know, I'll even call it a manual.
- 29:10But you you need to you need to do church this way.
- 29:12And if you're not doing church this way, it's wrong.
- 29:14No churches, churches, uniques churches are different.
- 29:18And it it's OK to celebrate those differences.
- 29:21And we don't all need to be the same, and we don't need to be
- 29:24put off by other churches that are different than ours.
- 29:27We need to celebrate those differences because we're all
- 29:29part of the family of Christ. Do you mean to tell me that
- 29:33you're putting out a A Martin Church manual here soon?
- 29:37Absolutely, yes it is. It is.
- 29:40It is in the works. Love it.
- 29:42Love that you know it. What I love about that even
- 29:45more, Brett, is that it's going to have Martin Church Manual.
- 29:48It's not going to be Jesus Church Manual.
- 29:50It's not going to be the New Testament church manual.
- 29:53It's going to be named after your last name.
- 29:55And that's probably the most important thing that we do when
- 29:59it comes to churches is put our name on it, not Lord or or God
- 30:03or anything else. It makes sense.
- 30:05And I'm also going to require our to read it on tape and
- 30:11record themselves, mail it in so I can make sure that they they
- 30:15read it. Good man.
- 30:16Love that, love that. So I hope you hope you guys are
- 30:20are picking up on our sarcasm a little bit and I hope you guys
