- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:31So today I want to talk to you about asking for help because I
- 0:35think it's one of the hardest things that we all go through as
- 0:40human beings. Apparently Wilma, here thinks
- 0:44the same thing as she comes up to sit.
- 0:45And while I'm recording this and asking for help is a very, very
- 0:50hard thing for people to do. I see it constantly within my
- 0:55coaching practice, when people call and say, they want to
- 0:58finally get help? It's usually a Last ditch
- 1:02effort. It's kind of one of those things
- 1:03where they reach the point of desperation and then they say,
- 1:06okay, I need help, I need different perspective, I need
- 1:08someone to come and talk to me about something.
- 1:10I need to, you know, have a different perspective.
- 1:13Put into my head because the one that I'm dealing with, right now
- 1:16is not working for me, but it's not something that they go to
- 1:19easily. And I think most of us have been
- 1:24wired to believe that, when you ask for help, it's because
- 1:29you're out of resources. It's because You've gotten to a
- 1:32point where you can't show that you're doing something
- 1:35independently, and I see it over and over, and over again, where
- 1:41people struggle, and they feel by the time they show up, and
- 1:44they are on the phone with me, and they're asking for help in
- 1:47something. They've reached a point of
- 1:49desperation, and they've gotten to this position where they are
- 1:53mad at themselves for feeling a certain way.
- 1:55And I can't stress enough, how that is just the wrong
- 2:00perspective. Good to have.
- 2:02If you have gotten to the point where you are willing to ask for
- 2:06help, then you've recognized very smartly that you can no
- 2:11longer continue in the position that you're in.
- 2:14You can no longer continue to remain in the perspective,
- 2:17you're in and successfully navigate it.
- 2:20So it's it is important and necessary to recognize that that
- 2:26that little bit of information, that little tidbit of
- 2:29information Is meant to give you everything you need in order to
- 2:33shift and change, and it's nothing to be ashamed of.
- 2:36It's actually brilliant that you recognized.
- 2:38It, it's a different level of a mindset.
- 2:40It's a growth mindset at that point.
- 2:42When you say, listen, I can't grow without having additional
- 2:46input. I need to have additional input,
- 2:49but it requires us to pause and not shame ourselves in the
- 2:53moment of saying, I need help. Humble ourselves and say, no,
- 2:57this is, I can't do this by myself being Able to do that is
- 3:03huge. I think it's an important
- 3:05distinction to recognize that I have a coach.
- 3:09I think lots of people that I know who are coaches have
- 3:12coaches, because, if you have somebody that you're working
- 3:16with that shows that you can pause and find those things
- 3:19within yourself as well. So, there's no shame in it.
- 3:23Whether you go to a coach, as I said, or go to a therapist or go
- 3:28to a psychiatrist or You know, anybody that can give you advice
- 3:34a mint or whatever it might be, this is necessary to ask for
- 3:40help when you need it, and not shame yourself for needing.
- 3:44It actually celebrate yourself for recognizing, I need help
- 3:48because that's the moment that change begins.
- 3:50So I first of all, if you're in the position where you need to
- 3:55recognize that, I'll ask you to pause and say, please do an
- 3:58inventory and ask yourself what do I need help?
- 4:01With like, right now, that's an excellent exercise for you to
- 4:03do. What do I need help with?
- 4:05Where do I feel stuck? Because if you can take that
- 4:08quick inventory, then you can say, okay, like there are just
- 4:11certain things in our lives and I don't care.
- 4:12If it's something as simple as listen.
- 4:14I don't want to go in the grocery store anymore.
- 4:15I need help. I need to be able to just pull
- 4:17up and go ahead and pick up my groceries.
- 4:20Don't be ashamed of that. We all of us don't have time do
- 4:24that if you need help having you know, somebody come and do
- 4:28tutoring with your kids. I mean, if that's one of the
- 4:30biggest things that A tie here lately is that people are
- 4:33struggling with your kids in school and their kids need help
- 4:36and they don't know how to do the homework because God knows
- 4:39it's been a significant amount of time.
- 4:40Since they've been on a school they don't understand it and
- 4:42it's driving them crazy. And the kids and them can't sit
- 4:45down and have a decent conversation because there's so
- 4:47much homework that they're focused in fighting.
- 4:49So it's a awareness that says we need help to do the homework.
- 4:53We need somebody to come over here and help us with this.
- 4:55We might need a tutor, we might need a kid, that's a little bit
- 4:59older that can come and do this. It's already done it, whatever
- 5:02it might be. It's that oh clearly we need
- 5:04help. Just look at everything.
- 5:07Even if it's just having somebody in your life that you
- 5:10can brainstorm with that, you can mentor with that.
- 5:12You can ask questions to and feel comfortable with it.
- 5:16You've got to put yourself into that growth mindset and say, I
- 5:20am capable of asking for help and doing it and successfully,
- 5:24navigating it. Allowing myself to be humble and
- 5:28do so. So hopefully this got through to
- 5:31you guys today because I'm knocking on the door and I'm
- 5:33saying, please ask for help, please reach out and tell people
- 5:37when you need it. Please do not try to do
- 5:39everything on your own. Nobody can.
- 5:41I don't care who you are, nobody can do it.
- 5:44So I hope you guys have a very blessed day and I will see you
- 5:49all tomorrow. Take care.
