- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:44Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, twelve
- 0:48Speaker 1: and a half years strung. We got a great show
- 0:49Speaker 1: coming your way. I'm Jeff Warren here with my buddy
- 0:52Speaker 1: lenn Hunt Sickarts. It's been a little while since you've
- 0:54Speaker 1: been on the pod. Here, Lennon's good to see it,
- 0:56Speaker 1: my friend.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It has I was actually thinking about it last week,
- 0:59Speaker 2: or like, I haven't done regular shows postgame shows. It
- 1:03Speaker 2: feels it feels like it has been a while. I know,
- 1:06Speaker 2: my schedule hasn't been lined up with it a lot recently. Yeah,
- 1:08Speaker 2: I steel it feels like it's been like two or
- 1:11Speaker 2: three weeks.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's good to see. A couple of
- 1:13Speaker 1: weeks ago at Eric's we all got together and yeah
- 1:16Speaker 1: we had we had Eric's famous blue cheese bacon burgers,
- 1:21Speaker 1: which were fantastic. I must say we were actually talking
- 1:24Speaker 1: about on the show last week.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Good.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yes, but really, I mean, already in our fantasy basketball league,
- 1:34Speaker 1: you're you're a number of what guys already out It's like, yeah, I.
- 1:40Speaker 2: And this is this is why I don't really do
- 1:42Speaker 2: this stuff. You know, I don't know why I agreed
- 1:45Speaker 2: to do the basketball when I did it last year
- 1:48Speaker 2: and I was trying to get back in the league
- 1:49Speaker 2: and all. But yeah, so I had the I think
- 1:52Speaker 2: I had the six pick in our draft YEP this year,
- 1:55Speaker 2: and I took Anthony Edwards. You know, had great year
- 1:58Speaker 2: last year for the for the Wolves. You know, young player,
- 2:01Speaker 2: no reason to think he wouldn't repeat that. And he's
- 2:04Speaker 2: already out until mid November. So it's just like, I mean.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But that's where it becomes me. Well, that's where it
- 2:10Speaker 1: becomes interesting because you gotta use strategy and you gotta
- 2:13Speaker 1: be like, you know, here's what we're gonna here's what
- 2:15Speaker 1: we gotta do to get back into it. We gotta
- 2:16Speaker 1: be strategic.
- 2:17Speaker 2: How do you use strategy when these guys are made
- 2:19Speaker 2: out of glass and they never play? You know what,
- 2:21Speaker 2: You make a good point because on a regular on
- 2:24Speaker 2: a regular night, it's like, oh man, I only have
- 2:26Speaker 2: five guys going on night in my lineup, and then
- 2:29Speaker 2: one of them's hurt and then one of them sitting.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Like I know that was with me last year. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: was at the almost at the bottom of the barrel
- 2:34Speaker 1: last year for most of the league because I had
- 2:36Speaker 1: so many injuries. That's right, that's what it's tough about
- 2:38Speaker 1: fantasy basketball.
- 2:40Speaker 2: So yeah, anybody, it's just I mean, they're these guys
- 2:45Speaker 2: are just a bunch of ferraris. There's the world's best
- 2:48Speaker 2: best athletes, but those Ferraris are always in the shop.
- 2:50Speaker 1: They are so exactly one little, one little ding, and it's.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Like, oh no, yeah, I don't know.
- 2:59Speaker 1: All right, we gotta go, folks. We gonna certainly we're
- 3:02Speaker 1: gonna be getting into some Philadelphia Eagles talk as they
- 3:04Speaker 1: are in their bye week. If you want to go
- 3:06Speaker 1: back in the feed, we do have an Opposition Territory podcast.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I know we've been previewing our Eagles shows here and
- 3:12Speaker 1: Eagles games, I should say, but we got into just
- 3:15Speaker 1: the NFC and what the NFC is looking like so
- 3:18Speaker 1: far halfway through the NFL season. But we're gonna be
- 3:21Speaker 1: diving into some Eagles talk and what we want to
- 3:23Speaker 1: see from them in Week ten when they return from
- 3:26Speaker 1: the bye week, and then we're gonna get into some
- 3:28Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventy six Ers talk, because my gosh, this team
- 3:31Speaker 1: is just surprising the hell out of everybody again, Oh
- 3:35Speaker 1: my gosh, entertaining basketball, Holy freaking crap. They're undefeated as
- 3:39Speaker 1: of us recording this here on Wednesday, October twenty ninth.
- 3:42Speaker 1: My goodness, gracious, so goodness, gracious, when all right season,
- 3:48Speaker 1: I know, I was gonna I wonder if folks will
- 3:50Speaker 1: know what that is. And then from there we're gonna
- 3:53Speaker 1: get into some Philadelphia Union talk. Can they make a
- 3:56Speaker 1: run for the championship for the MLS Cup. We're gonna
- 4:00Speaker 1: dive into that storyline for sure, And then we're gonna
- 4:02Speaker 1: get into some Flyers talk and really talk about Trevor Zegris.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I mean, wow, he has been pretty sensational and pretty
- 4:08Speaker 1: fun to watch early on the Flyers offseason acquisition that
- 4:12Speaker 1: we've all been really enjoying watching our thoughts on him
- 4:15Speaker 1: and how this team is performing. And then what we're
- 4:18Speaker 1: throwing down on the table this week, we're gonna get
- 4:20Speaker 1: into some college football talk with our good friend Joe
- 4:22Speaker 1: Dalleone from A to Za Sports and the Raffino and
- 4:26Speaker 1: Joe Show podcast. We're gonna dive into this college football
- 4:29Speaker 1: season a little bit more. I mean, it's interesting storylines
- 4:32Speaker 1: for sure in the world of college football. So, Land, buddy,
- 4:36Speaker 1: why don't we get into this Philadelphia Eagles team here?
- 4:40Speaker 1: It's the bye week, it's been up and down. They're
- 4:43Speaker 1: six and two. They had what seemed to be a
- 4:46Speaker 1: get right game against the Giants, and really what we
- 4:50Speaker 1: want to see from them when Week ten rolls around,
- 4:54Speaker 1: because I think at this point too, while we did
- 4:56Speaker 1: see some improvement with the pass rush this past we
- 5:00Speaker 1: absolutely did. I mean, five sacks in a game, holy
- 5:02Speaker 1: freaking crap. And yeah some of them were coverage sacks
- 5:05Speaker 1: for sure, but uh, I think the pass rush still
- 5:09Speaker 1: isn't where it needs to be for this team to
- 5:11Speaker 1: be as successful as they're going to want to be
- 5:13Speaker 1: if and when they do get into the playoffs. So
- 5:15Speaker 1: I think moving into Week ten, the pass rush it's
- 5:18Speaker 1: still it's they still need to get home, they still
- 5:21Speaker 1: need to finish. I think that's a big theme coming into,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know, surrounding this by week and then looking at
- 5:26Speaker 1: week ten.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I would agree. Now, I know the Eagles made
- 5:30Speaker 2: a trade for Jet's corner.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah it was going to get into that, but yeah, sure.
- 5:34Speaker 2: When but what I mean, I don't mean to go
- 5:37Speaker 2: down that road just now, more of leading into a
- 5:39Speaker 2: question when is the trade deadline in the NFL.
- 5:43Speaker 1: The deadline is November I think it's November six. Let
- 5:47Speaker 1: me check here real quick.
- 5:48Speaker 3: Okay.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, I'm just saying, like, I mean, you know, talking
- 5:52Speaker 2: about the pass rush, do you think that there is
- 5:55Speaker 2: a chance four?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 5:57Speaker 2: November four? November fourth, Okay, So they made a move
- 6:00Speaker 2: to bolster their secondary. Now do you think that there's
- 6:03Speaker 2: maybe another move on deck? I think for some kind
- 6:06Speaker 2: of edge rusher, because I mean, how is it going
- 6:08Speaker 2: to improve?
- 6:09Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 6:10Speaker 2: But I mean Brandon Graham, you know, as much as
- 6:13Speaker 2: we all love him, he's not going to turn the
- 6:14Speaker 2: clock back ten years. Yeah, you know, coming back, so
- 6:18Speaker 2: it I mean, he'll give you what he can, but
- 6:20Speaker 2: I don't I don't think you can reasonably expect it
- 6:22Speaker 2: to be much. So it's going to either have to
- 6:25Speaker 2: come from the guys that are there, or they're going
- 6:27Speaker 2: to have to make a move more likely to bring
- 6:29Speaker 2: somebody in. And that's what's going to be interesting to
- 6:32Speaker 2: me over the next few days here ken they manage
- 6:35Speaker 2: to get somebody in there to make that happen.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Right now, I believe the Eagles have ten draft picks
- 6:40Speaker 1: next year. This is just next year. They have a
- 6:42Speaker 1: first rounder, a second rounder, They have three third round
- 6:47Speaker 1: picks as well, two fourth round picks, So I think Len,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's not out of the realm of possibility that maybe
- 6:53Speaker 1: over this weekend, on Monday, or even like I said, Tuesday,
- 6:57Speaker 1: rate before that deadline, that a pass rusher is brought in.
- 7:01Speaker 2: I could see the feels like they kind of have to,
- 7:02Speaker 2: right it.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Feels like it feels like it. Can I see them
- 7:05Speaker 1: giving up a second rounder to get somebody who is
- 7:07Speaker 1: going to be a significant addition and a significant piece.
- 7:11Speaker 1: I can absolutely see that happening. They have the draft
- 7:14Speaker 1: capital to do it. Why not do it in a
- 7:16Speaker 1: year when it seems like things are going to start
- 7:18Speaker 1: really clicking with this team.
- 7:19Speaker 2: They certainly did against the Giants this past week, and
- 7:22Speaker 2: it sucks and they would hurt to get rid of
- 7:24Speaker 2: that pick. But I mean the windows open now, right
- 7:27Speaker 2: you know, they they won it last year. They're you know,
- 7:31Speaker 2: one of the better teams in the in the NFC,
- 7:33Speaker 2: So why don't they have a chance to do it
- 7:35Speaker 2: again this year if they can get some help. I mean,
- 7:39Speaker 2: this is this is when you strike. I mean, they
- 7:41Speaker 2: don't have any major injuries right now that are you know,
- 7:44Speaker 2: oh Man Hurts is out for the year. Barkley's out
- 7:47Speaker 2: for the year or something catastrophic like that. So you
- 7:51Speaker 2: kind of have to, don't you.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I think so, I think so. I'm hoping that it
- 7:54Speaker 1: happens within this next week for sure, I really, I
- 7:57Speaker 1: really am, because look, I'm glad they ended up doing
- 7:59Speaker 1: the try to get Michael Carter the second. So what
- 8:03Speaker 1: that is, folks, if you aren't aware, Philadelphia Eagles receive
- 8:07Speaker 1: cornerback Michael Carter the second and a twenty twenty seven
- 8:11Speaker 1: seventh round pick. The Jets get wide receiver John Metchi,
- 8:15Speaker 1: who really didn't see too too much actions as a
- 8:18Speaker 1: member of this Eagles team, and also a twenty twenty
- 8:21Speaker 1: seven sixth round pick. So he apparently, I shouldn't say apparently.
- 8:28Speaker 1: He's had about twenty five starts. This is cornerback Michael Carter,
- 8:32Speaker 1: and everybody's calling him MC two. So MC two has
- 8:35Speaker 1: logged twenty five starts in sixty five career games played.
- 8:40Speaker 1: He's twenty six years old. He has a eighty three
- 8:44Speaker 1: point four passer rating when targeted, which is pretty good,
- 8:48Speaker 1: but it's been one hundred and nine point seven in
- 8:50Speaker 1: five games this season, and that's not so good passer rating,
- 8:56Speaker 1: so up and down for him. Of course, But you
- 8:59Speaker 1: know what, I do have faith in this scouting department
- 9:02Speaker 1: when they're bringing in certain uh you know, certain talent.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Look when they initially brought in and acquired Tank Bigsby,
- 9:10Speaker 1: We're like, all right, you know, he's been a productive
- 9:12Speaker 1: running back down in uh uh Jacksonville, and then they
- 9:17Speaker 1: just didn't use him up until this past.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Week of a job.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Last week, what was it? Nine carries for one hundred
- 9:22Speaker 1: and four yards? Like, what the hell? What you what
- 9:24Speaker 1: were you waiting for? Not that he's going to do
- 9:27Speaker 1: that every week, but really, I think the Eagle scouting department,
- 9:30Speaker 1: their pro scouting department is really top notch. And could
- 9:33Speaker 1: we see good things from MC two. Absolutely, I really
- 9:36Speaker 1: do like this trade.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Do you think that they see him more as a
- 9:40Speaker 2: slot the guy? Okay, that was my question. He's going
- 9:44Speaker 2: to be a slot or is he going to be
- 9:45Speaker 2: on the outside opposite Mitchell?
- 9:47Speaker 1: It's my understanding. And in the Jets games that I've seen,
- 9:51Speaker 1: Michael Carter has mainly played in the slot. I mean
- 9:55Speaker 1: he's going to provide I think some overall versatility to
- 9:58Speaker 1: the secondary, But I mean I wouldn't expect necessarily Cooper
- 10:01Speaker 1: de Gene to be moving to the outside if that's
- 10:04Speaker 1: what you mean, you know what I mean, Like I
- 10:06Speaker 1: don't see that happening at all, but an extra piece
- 10:09Speaker 1: and could he play on the outside. I think he could,
- 10:11Speaker 1: But it's gonna I think they got a talent in
- 10:15Speaker 1: an upgrade over Dori Jackson for sure and Kielee Ringo. Okay,
- 10:20Speaker 1: that's my that's my thoughts here.
- 10:22Speaker 2: So well, I mean, and that's any anything that you
- 10:24Speaker 2: can get that it's an improvement is going to help.
- 10:26Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean that's still based on what you
- 10:30Speaker 2: have told me, that seems like there's still a hole
- 10:33Speaker 2: on the outside.
- 10:34Speaker 3: The opposite, Mitchell.
- 10:35Speaker 1: I think there is. Look, they had to replace Darius Sleigh,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you know, like that's a tough thing to do, especially
- 10:41Speaker 1: when you have young talent that really hasn't developed. In
- 10:44Speaker 1: terms of Kiey Ringo, we had high expectations for him
- 10:46Speaker 1: coming into this season. Hasn't manifested itself at all. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 1: all right, well yeah I get it.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I just that kind of wishing and hope and
- 10:55Speaker 2: that like, yeah, you know, if these guys are good teams,
- 10:59Speaker 2: aren't really looking to trade.
- 11:00Speaker 1: It, Yeah, yeah, absolutely, all right, Well, is there anything
- 11:04Speaker 1: else buddy, before we move on to some Sixers talk,
- 11:06Speaker 1: anything that you want to see from this Eagles team
- 11:09Speaker 1: in week ten when they return from the bye.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Week, I mean, more offensive cohesion, you know, return to
- 11:15Speaker 2: health for you know A J. Brown or you know
- 11:17Speaker 2: Cam Jurgens. I'm assuming that the bye week is going
- 11:20Speaker 2: to be you know, helpful in getting both of them,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know, back a little bit, unless there's something on
- 11:26Speaker 2: either of their health statuses that I'm not, you know,
- 11:28Speaker 2: fully aware of. Yeah, but yeah, just just rest up
- 11:32Speaker 2: and be refreshed and ready to go for when they
- 11:35Speaker 2: start back up.
- 11:36Speaker 1: All right, sounds good. Well let's get into now some
- 11:39Speaker 1: Philadelphia seventy six ers talk, because wooo, the the Tyres
- 11:45Speaker 1: MAXI VJ. Edgecumbe backcourt is just ushering in this this
- 11:50Speaker 1: era of joy. The Sixers are undefeated and playing some
- 11:54Speaker 1: very entertaining basketball right now as we are recording this.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I cannot believe that they are the number one team
- 12:02Speaker 1: right now in the Eastern Conference at four and oh yes,
- 12:05Speaker 1: it's early in the season, Len, but holy freaking crap,
- 12:10Speaker 1: this freaking team has been fun to watch.
- 12:13Speaker 2: They're fun, yeah, And that's the big thing is you know,
- 12:17Speaker 2: I mean, I just yeah, it's kind of weird. Just
- 12:20Speaker 2: last year was such a drag and you just wanted
- 12:23Speaker 2: them to be fun again. I felt like there was
- 12:26Speaker 2: a black cloud over this organization all year last year,
- 12:29Speaker 2: and it's just nice even if they're like there's teams
- 12:32Speaker 2: that are like fun but not necessarily good in the standings.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Even if they were a bad team that was fun
- 12:38Speaker 2: to watch, I could have lived with that. But the
- 12:40Speaker 2: fact that they're fun and they're good so far, I mean,
- 12:43Speaker 2: it's still very early in the year. Yeah, you know,
- 12:45Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's awesome, but need to be able
- 12:48Speaker 2: to say it.
- 12:49Speaker 1: It wasn't just last year, Len, Look for the last decade.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I mean, hell, maybe the last quarter century has just
- 12:56Speaker 1: been filled with these soul crushing moments for most of
- 13:00Speaker 1: us die hard Sixers fans, from rookie injuries to guys
- 13:05Speaker 1: you draft who then forget how to shoot the ball,
- 13:08Speaker 1: to just playoff disappointment after playoff disappointment, and everything in between.
- 13:13Speaker 1: This basketball team has continually they'll warm our hearts as
- 13:17Speaker 1: we're getting ready for the season, and then throughout these
- 13:20Speaker 1: seasons they rip it out and they just stomp all
- 13:23Speaker 1: over it. That's what we've basically seen. I mean in
- 13:25Speaker 1: the last decade, you know.
- 13:26Speaker 2: You name it, like like bad draft picks, bad trades,
- 13:32Speaker 2: bad health, you know, whatever it seems like could go
- 13:38Speaker 2: wrong has gone wrong. So to have a guy that
- 13:42Speaker 2: you picked third overall and he just comes in and
- 13:45Speaker 2: he just looks like he belongs immediately, it's just like, wait,
- 13:49Speaker 2: something good happened like that kind of that kind of
- 13:52Speaker 2: feeling like you're just not used to, you know, anything
- 13:56Speaker 2: good happening. I mean, the fact that they were a
- 13:58Speaker 2: competitive team despite all that over the past you know,
- 14:02Speaker 2: decade or whatever. Yeah, you know, maybe not a full decade,
- 14:05Speaker 2: but you know what I mean, But even that's amazing,
- 14:08Speaker 2: you know, with all the goofy, you know crap that's
- 14:11Speaker 2: happened over the past however many years, but it seemed
- 14:14Speaker 2: like it was kind of going down a whole last
- 14:18Speaker 2: year where it was like and Beads getting older, he's
- 14:21Speaker 2: always hurt, Paul George plays half a year, these guys
- 14:25Speaker 2: are on under contract for a while. They've got one
- 14:28Speaker 2: guy on this team that I'm interested in watching in Maxie.
- 14:33Speaker 2: He got hurt. Yeah, so all that stuff and it's
- 14:37Speaker 2: just like now, I mean, I don't know where they
- 14:40Speaker 2: can go because I think there's a there's a ceiling
- 14:43Speaker 2: well just due to the size issues that they're gonna face. Yeah,
- 14:46Speaker 2: I mean, once McCain comes back, you've already got a
- 14:49Speaker 2: fun backcourt in in Maxie and uh and and Edgecombe
- 14:54Speaker 2: Grimes has been great off the bench. They're gonna really
- 14:57Speaker 2: have to figure out, you know, the whole minutes distribution
- 15:01Speaker 2: among their cards once once McCain comes back. Yeah, but
- 15:05Speaker 2: it's it's a fun problem to have. I mean, and
- 15:08Speaker 2: I don't know, man, right now, it's just I keep
- 15:10Speaker 2: going back to the word, but it's just fun.
- 15:12Speaker 1: It's fun. Well when you when you read a stat
- 15:15Speaker 1: like this per ESPN, the one hundred and eighty six
- 15:19Speaker 1: points that Maxi and edgecomb combined for through the first
- 15:22Speaker 1: three games is the most for a starting back court
- 15:25Speaker 1: through three games since the nineteen seventy and seventy one
- 15:29Speaker 1: season when when the stats first started to be tracked.
- 15:32Speaker 1: For that, I mean, just historical numbers, just what seemed
- 15:38Speaker 1: and it doesn't seem to be like fizzling out even
- 15:41Speaker 1: like after the fourth game. And yes that we get
- 15:44Speaker 1: to see a den Bona doing some good things, you
- 15:47Speaker 1: know what I mean. I box the last year, so
- 15:50Speaker 1: it seemed like the Sixers were running out of some energy,
- 15:53Speaker 1: you know, in the fourth corner, and then all of us,
- 15:55Speaker 1: all of a sudden, a den bona happened, which was amazing,
- 15:59Speaker 1: Like you, like you said, the team is just fun
- 16:01Speaker 1: to watch, and it's it's a high level of energy
- 16:05Speaker 1: right now that I didn't think we were going to see.
- 16:07Speaker 1: I don't think any of us thought we were going
- 16:09Speaker 1: to see this level of energy. Yeah, and I really think,
- 16:13Speaker 1: I mean this crop of rookies. I mean it's not
- 16:17Speaker 1: just Edgecombe. I mean, you know, there was a whole
- 16:20Speaker 1: Edgecombe versus Ace Bailey thing. I think ast Bailey's gonna
- 16:23Speaker 1: do well out in Utah. I mean, Dylan Harper so
- 16:26Speaker 1: far has has looked really good in San Antonio. I
- 16:29Speaker 1: mean we knew Cooper Flag was going to be good.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Kinnipple down in Charlotte for the role that they need
- 16:36Speaker 1: him to play, he's playing it wonderfully. So it's been
- 16:40Speaker 1: I mean, a very strong rookie crop.
- 16:43Speaker 2: So far, not just for Sixers, but just you know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: I think around the league so far, it's been pretty impressive.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right, you got anything else, buddy, Before we
- 16:51Speaker 1: get to our first break here with the Sixers.
- 16:54Speaker 2: No, I do not no.

- 17:18Speaker 1: the Twitter slash x, I'm over on TikTok at mister
- 17:21Speaker 1: Jeff Warren. We've also got our Facebook page threads and
- 17:26Speaker 1: Eric and I are over on Blue Sky as well.
- 17:29Speaker 1: So we're gonna take a break and when we come back,
- 17:31Speaker 1: we're gonna talk Philadelphia Union Flyers and some college football.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Stick with us, all right, We are back, and now
- 17:39Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some Philadelphia Union talk. Why because, folks,
- 17:43Speaker 1: they are the most successful right now, the most successful
- 17:46Speaker 1: Philly sports team as they are in the playoffs. They
- 17:50Speaker 1: were the best team in Major League Soccer here in
- 17:52Speaker 1: this twenty twenty five season. They won the Supporter Shield,
- 17:56Speaker 1: and we're gonna dive into whether or not this team
- 17:59Speaker 1: can really make a run through the MLS playoffs. Can
- 18:02Speaker 1: they win the MLS Cup and bring that championship back
- 18:06Speaker 1: to Philadelphia as as they did a short time ago.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Lehn.
- 18:11Speaker 1: After last year and the very disappointing, in fact horrible
- 18:15Speaker 1: season that the Union had in twenty twenty four, there
- 18:18Speaker 1: was no way in a million years I thought that
- 18:21Speaker 1: this team could do what it did this year. And
- 18:24Speaker 1: I think it's a testament to the new coach who
- 18:27Speaker 1: took over for Jim Curtin, Bradley Carnell, his leadership, how
- 18:32Speaker 1: he has put these guys on the field into situations
- 18:39Speaker 1: that where he's adapting to their strength. He's adapting his
- 18:43Speaker 1: coaching style to what their strengths are. There's so much
- 18:47Speaker 1: to be said for that, but I think it's this
- 18:50Speaker 1: cohesion of the team being very resilient because even when
- 18:54Speaker 1: they've been down in certain moments in games. I mean
- 18:56Speaker 1: even this pass game against the Chicago Fire, last fifteen minutes,
- 19:00Speaker 1: you're like, oh my gosh, these guys forget how to
- 19:02Speaker 1: play soccer. You know, you're thinking what the heck's going on?
- 19:05Speaker 1: But then the resiliency comes in that that energy that
- 19:08Speaker 1: they've been able to bring throughout this season somehow then
- 19:12Speaker 1: shows up. I give Bradley Carnell a ton of credit
- 19:15Speaker 1: and and he he's a humble dude too. When when
- 19:19Speaker 1: you when you listen to him and in press conferences
- 19:22Speaker 1: and when he's talking to the media. I'm just amazed
- 19:25Speaker 1: at where this Union team is right now. I really
- 19:27Speaker 1: think that they are going to be able to make
- 19:29Speaker 1: a run at this MLS Cup at this point.
- 19:33Speaker 2: I mean, they've got a shot. They listen, They've exceeded
- 19:38Speaker 2: all of my expectations, I think all of all of
- 19:41Speaker 2: yours as well. Yeah, just with how they played. And
- 19:44Speaker 2: I think that goes a little bit to what you
- 19:46Speaker 2: said about Carnell, kind of like realizing that these guys
- 19:51Speaker 2: ye do best, yeah, and letting him do it. I mean,
- 19:53Speaker 2: it feels like they're I mean, they've always been solid defensively,
- 19:58Speaker 2: but it feels like they're more more aggressive than they
- 20:01Speaker 2: were last year. Yeah, And I and I think that's
- 20:03Speaker 2: kind of it feels like they're playing the same way
- 20:06Speaker 2: they did, you know, the last time they won the
- 20:08Speaker 2: Supporter Shield and when when they when they you know,
- 20:11Speaker 2: we're close to winning an MLS Cup losing to l
- 20:15Speaker 2: A f C in the final. So yeah, I mean
- 20:18Speaker 2: it seems like they you know have a you know,
- 20:21Speaker 2: a good shot based on what they're doing.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Now.
- 20:24Speaker 2: They've won their their first round series against Chicago. They
- 20:28Speaker 2: won the first game in in penalty kicks. Game two
- 20:33Speaker 2: is now in Chicago on November first, So if they
- 20:36Speaker 2: win that series over and now they go into a
- 20:39Speaker 2: series of games where it's won and done after this round.
- 20:43Speaker 2: So it'll be interesting to see how that goes. The
- 20:47Speaker 2: one Achilles heel that I wish they would stop doing,
- 20:51Speaker 2: and then it had happened. You you alluded to it
- 20:53Speaker 2: in the in the Chicago game, they were up to
- 20:56Speaker 2: nothing and then like kind in a matter of minutes,
- 21:00Speaker 2: it was two to two. And it feels like they
- 21:04Speaker 2: it feels like in games. Maybe it's just games when
- 21:06Speaker 2: I watch him, but it feels like it happens a
- 21:08Speaker 2: lot where they have a lead and they allow a
- 21:10Speaker 2: team to come back and then they either have to
- 21:12Speaker 2: you know, win the game back or it ends in
- 21:14Speaker 2: a draw. Most of the time, you know, sometimes they
- 21:17Speaker 2: just go all the way and they lose. But it
- 21:20Speaker 2: feels like they don't step on the opponent's next when
- 21:24Speaker 2: they've got him down late in games and it bites
- 21:27Speaker 2: him in the ass. And I feel like I've seen
- 21:29Speaker 2: it happen a couple of times, and it happened in
- 21:31Speaker 2: the Chicago game too. Fortunately they were able to win
- 21:33Speaker 2: on penalty kicks. I guess my my main concern losing
- 21:38Speaker 2: Quinn Sullivan to the a cl tear. You know, he's
- 21:43Speaker 2: one of their probably better midfielders, so losing him is
- 21:48Speaker 2: gonna sting, and I don't think it really it totally
- 21:52Speaker 2: kneecaps their offensive upside, but it definitely hurts. They're going
- 21:57Speaker 2: to miss him.
- 21:57Speaker 1: I think I think they're going to miss him. But
- 21:59Speaker 1: I think what's also important because like coming into this season,
- 22:04Speaker 1: we were talking about at times what happens with like
- 22:07Speaker 1: what happens when depth pieces need to step up, and
- 22:10Speaker 1: there was real concern with it, you know, but when
- 22:13Speaker 1: you look at this season, guys have stepped up in
- 22:17Speaker 1: spots they.
- 22:19Speaker 3: Happen.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I just think it's a culture thing.
- 22:22Speaker 3: You know.
- 22:22Speaker 1: It's interesting if you go back, folks in the podcast
- 22:24Speaker 1: feed our PSD special this week, our good friend Josh
- 22:27Speaker 1: Schuster from Philadelphia Soccer now dot com was on talking
- 22:30Speaker 1: about this team and a possible this possible run through
- 22:33Speaker 1: the playoffs to possible championship and len it's interesting. Josh
- 22:37Speaker 1: used a phrase that I've been thinking about and you
- 22:40Speaker 1: alluded to it, the aggressiveness he said. He said he
- 22:43Speaker 1: views it as patient aggressiveness, and he said, I know
- 22:47Speaker 1: that kind of sounds, but I think he was absolutely.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I think that's a that's a that's a good way
- 22:55Speaker 2: to put it.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that absolutely does. And be as a result, it
- 22:59Speaker 1: means that this team is really resilient in a lot
- 23:01Speaker 1: of ways too. So I think it's just it's been
- 23:04Speaker 1: fun and I think it's going to remain fun watching
- 23:06Speaker 1: this team. Like I am amazed at where the world
- 23:09Speaker 1: of Philly sports is on any given week. I swear
- 23:12Speaker 1: to God. Three weeks ago, we were down in the dumps, man,
- 23:15Speaker 1: Eagles are losing, Philly's getting knocked out of the postseason.
- 23:20Speaker 1: We were shit on our shoes, out of luck as
- 23:23Speaker 1: Philadelphia sports fans. And now all of a sudden, you've
- 23:28Speaker 1: got the Eagles, We're seeing some cohesiveness with that offensive
- 23:32Speaker 1: line for the first time really this season. You've got
- 23:34Speaker 1: the Sixers at four and oh, you know, the Union
- 23:38Speaker 1: are doing what they're doing as well, and like we're
- 23:40Speaker 1: gonna talk just a minute about the Flyers. It's been
- 23:44Speaker 1: a fun season at all. I know it's been fun
- 23:46Speaker 1: watching them and Trevor Segrets. I don't know. Maybe we'll
- 23:49Speaker 1: just get into that now. But do you have anything
- 23:51Speaker 1: else for the Union, buddy before we move to the Flyers.
- 23:55Speaker 2: No, I just I can't wait for that game on Sunday.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Hopefully they just close it out. I mean, it's an
- 24:00Speaker 2: away game, you know, just let's not make it suspenseful.
- 24:03Speaker 2: And then I think they God who, I think it's
- 24:07Speaker 2: Charlotte and.
- 24:09Speaker 3: NYC.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Who, yes, whoever wins that series. That's who the Union
- 24:13Speaker 2: would have next should they advance. So those are both teams.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I think Sarlotte.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean n y CFC did go into Charlotte
- 24:21Speaker 2: and win Game one, so they have Game two on
- 24:24Speaker 2: their home Turfy if they can. If they can win
- 24:26Speaker 2: that game, then I mean, I think it'll be a
- 24:30Speaker 2: little bit of a surprise, but I think it's definitely
- 24:32Speaker 2: doable at this point.
- 24:33Speaker 1: All right, all right, sounds good. Well, let us know
- 24:36Speaker 1: what you're thinking about anything here in the world of
- 24:38Speaker 1: Philly sports, folks. Philadelphia Sports Table at gmail dot com
- 24:41Speaker 1: love to read your email here on the show and
- 24:43Speaker 1: respond to it, whether it's about the Union, the Sixers,
- 24:46Speaker 1: the Eagles, the Phillies, what the offseason is going to
- 24:48Speaker 1: look like for them and this Philadelphia Flyers team, which
- 24:52Speaker 1: we're going to get into now. Trevor Ziegres, Holy freaking crap,
- 24:56Speaker 1: what he has meant to this Flyers team early on
- 24:59Speaker 1: this season, we was certainly want to give our thoughts
- 25:01Speaker 1: about him and just where this team is at right now.
- 25:04Speaker 1: But he is answering that call, that off season call.
- 25:08Speaker 1: We were all thinking, Okay, what is he actually really
- 25:11Speaker 1: going to provide this team? You know, is he just
- 25:13Speaker 1: gonna be all, you know, flash and glamour, a player
- 25:16Speaker 1: that only wanted to, you know, be there for the
- 25:20Speaker 1: highlight reels things like that. But no, I mean whether yes,
- 25:24Speaker 1: you know, whether whether it's the power play or whether
- 25:27Speaker 1: it's the fact that, uh where what he has given
- 25:33Speaker 1: this team just in terms of like when he's on
- 25:35Speaker 1: the ice, I think it's like they're five to one
- 25:37Speaker 1: and one, you know, at this point with him on
- 25:40Speaker 1: the ice, it's it's really incredible what he has done. Yeah,
- 25:44Speaker 1: they're five to one and one in games that he's okay,
- 25:47Speaker 1: in games that he has recorded a point, they're five
- 25:49Speaker 1: to one and one, And like there is my gosh,
- 25:52Speaker 1: something to be said for that. There really is, you
- 25:55Speaker 1: know what a free agent acquisition, and overall he's helped
- 25:58Speaker 1: make this team so much more or fun to watch
- 26:01Speaker 1: him and meetch CoV. It's man, it's it's been fun
- 26:04Speaker 1: watching this team.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it absolutely has. And you know, you made the
- 26:10Speaker 2: point about the I guess the perception of Zegras as
- 26:13Speaker 2: a player coming in, you know, yeah, highlight reel flash,
- 26:19Speaker 2: maybe not a lot of substance to his game, maybe
- 26:21Speaker 2: a little bit allergic to defense. But what we've seen
- 26:24Speaker 2: so far, I mean, I feel like it was against
- 26:26Speaker 2: Seattle there was a play at which he was kind
- 26:29Speaker 2: of behind the net a few games back, and he
- 26:32Speaker 2: was about to get crushed into the boards by two
- 26:35Speaker 2: guys and he he like it's like a quarterback with
- 26:37Speaker 2: the rush on coming. He saw them coming. He was
- 26:40Speaker 2: able to flick a pass right in front of the goal,
- 26:45Speaker 2: just a beautiful pass for a goal as two guys
- 26:47Speaker 2: were putting him into the boards. And it's like that
- 26:49Speaker 2: kind of play that someone who it would be, I
- 26:54Speaker 2: guess we would consider soft. I don't think they would.
- 26:57Speaker 2: They would hang in there and make that play. So
- 26:59Speaker 2: that showed me a little something and then you know
- 27:02Speaker 2: he's chirpenitized, he's getting in their faces. Yeah, he's he's participating.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I mean, I think against the Penguins they had a
- 27:09Speaker 2: bit of a brawl there, he kind of got into that.
- 27:11Speaker 2: So I mean he's buying in and more and more
- 27:15Speaker 2: than him buying in. And we saw it in that
- 27:17Speaker 2: in that brawl there, they're they're all buying in. They're
- 27:21Speaker 2: all kind of when there's a brawl, they're they're all
- 27:23Speaker 2: kind of jumping in. It's like that, and Tockett made
- 27:26Speaker 2: mention of it after the game, that pack mentality. So
- 27:29Speaker 2: they're standing up for each other, which is especially in
- 27:33Speaker 2: a physical sport like hockey, have to have it. It's
- 27:36Speaker 2: huge and they're doing it right now. So that's an
- 27:38Speaker 2: encouraging thing to see. I mean, I have some things
- 27:40Speaker 2: with this team that so far are really encouraging and
- 27:44Speaker 2: some stuff that's not so encouraging. Maybe a little bit surprising,
- 27:49Speaker 2: going in both directions are really surprising. But yeah, that
- 27:52Speaker 2: that is a nice thing to see. Uh, right off
- 27:54Speaker 2: the back.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Let's get into more of that then too, because I
- 27:57Speaker 1: think for me, like and this kind of goes to
- 27:59Speaker 1: with with you know, one of the themes with the
- 28:02Speaker 1: union talk that we were just discussing, is that Rick
- 28:05Speaker 1: Tockett I think has brought a new sense of leadership,
- 28:10Speaker 1: of course, to this team and to these guys here.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I think I think that Tackett is just that fresh
- 28:19Speaker 1: breath of air that a lot of these guys needed,
- 28:22Speaker 1: you know, they needed to get away from that John
- 28:25Speaker 1: Tortorella old style of coaching, the old mentality. Rick Tocket's
- 28:30Speaker 1: just been a breath of fresh air. I think for
- 28:32Speaker 1: a lot of these guys. His communication style and how
- 28:35Speaker 1: he is able to relate to and just have a
- 28:37Speaker 1: relationship with his players. It sounds so ridiculous, but that
- 28:41Speaker 1: is a big reason I think why we're seeing success
- 28:43Speaker 1: here with this Flyers team.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's you know, they're they're they're playing together,
- 28:49Speaker 2: and they're they're doing it, you know, in response to
- 28:52Speaker 2: him in a positive way. You know, you that could
- 28:54Speaker 2: go in another direction with Tortorella. You know, it didn't
- 28:58Speaker 2: quite happen this way, but you would hope if they
- 28:59Speaker 2: were going to play together, it would be like, all right,
- 29:01Speaker 2: let's let's let's do this and stuff it up the
- 29:03Speaker 2: old man's ass and and show him. But they're not
- 29:08Speaker 2: there's not that mentality with with talking. It seems like,
- 29:11Speaker 2: you know, yeah, I mean he'll get he'll get tough
- 29:13Speaker 2: on the guy when he needs to, yeah, you know,
- 29:15Speaker 2: and he's done that with even with with Mitchkoff with
- 29:17Speaker 2: some of his minutes so far. But you know, but
- 29:21Speaker 2: there doesn't seem to be that like all right, it's
- 29:23Speaker 2: us against the coach thing where I feel like it
- 29:26Speaker 2: was like that quite a bit with uh with Towrderella.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, Well, you said there were some like other surprises,
- 29:31Speaker 1: some other things, you know, whether they're positive or negative, I.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Mean negative positive so far. I mean, I'm not surprised
- 29:40Speaker 2: by the Zegras has been, you know, scoring at the
- 29:43Speaker 2: rate he's been scoring points in our goals and the
- 29:46Speaker 2: says so far, I'm very surprised that Sean Coturier is
- 29:50Speaker 2: also co leading this team in points right now, a
- 29:52Speaker 2: guy that you know, man for the past couple of
- 29:55Speaker 2: years has looked like he was on his last legs
- 29:57Speaker 2: and it's like he's got this really long contract and
- 30:00Speaker 2: oh man, this is going to be an albatross. He's
- 30:02Speaker 2: been great so far, so that's a positive. Defensively, I mean,
- 30:06Speaker 2: this is a defensive corps where early in the season,
- 30:10Speaker 2: rumors out there that you know, oh man, we need
- 30:12Speaker 2: to make a trade. This defense corp is atrocious. We
- 30:15Speaker 2: have to bring somebody in. It hasn't been bad.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Been very very playing good hockey.
- 30:22Speaker 2: It's been it's been, you know, great so far as
- 30:26Speaker 2: far as that. And then oddly enough, the two I
- 30:30Speaker 2: don't know if I want to call him disappointments, but
- 30:33Speaker 2: just surprised that there's not more from them right now
- 30:37Speaker 2: are the two biggest names on this team, and that's
- 30:39Speaker 2: Travis Connectney and Matt Vey Mitchkoff. I mean, if you
- 30:42Speaker 2: look at with their production so far, not really there,
- 30:46Speaker 2: not really at the level where you would think or
- 30:48Speaker 2: hope that it would be. I know, there's been talk
- 30:52Speaker 2: with with Mitch gobb in terms of maybe he had
- 30:54Speaker 2: an off season injury that he was recovering from and
- 30:57Speaker 2: his conditioning isn't where it needs to be yet, and
- 30:59Speaker 2: that's kind of process they're working through. But these guys
- 31:02Speaker 2: are are the two guys that you thought would be
- 31:06Speaker 2: kind of dragging this team along end points and and
- 31:09Speaker 2: right now it doesn't seem like it's happening. Yeah, So
- 31:12Speaker 2: that I mean, it's I guess you could call it
- 31:14Speaker 2: a disappointing surprise. I mean, I do expect them to
- 31:17Speaker 2: both turn that around. If this was a season long
- 31:20Speaker 2: funk for either of them, I'd be shocked. But it's
- 31:22Speaker 2: just like, well, they did not get off to the
- 31:24Speaker 2: starts that I had thought, well if they would even.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Even what was it a week a week ago maybe
- 31:30Speaker 1: two weeks ago where Rick Hackett said he wanted mitchkov
- 31:33Speaker 1: to play through this slow start, be ready for more minutes,
- 31:37Speaker 1: you know. So I mean that's encouraging too. I think
- 31:41Speaker 1: another encouraging aspect of this team is Noah Cates and
- 31:46Speaker 1: Tyson Forrester Bobby Brink, my gosh. I mean, they're like.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Those depth guys have been have been coming through like
- 31:52Speaker 2: the engine. Absolutely yeah, They're like they've.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Basically been the engine since last year. And I mean,
- 31:56Speaker 1: I guess you got to give it to John Tortorell,
- 31:58Speaker 1: I guess for that in a sense.
- 32:00Speaker 2: And and you know, I more so with Forster than
- 32:04Speaker 2: than Brink. I think last year I felt like I
- 32:07Speaker 2: saw it a little bit more out of him than Brink,
- 32:10Speaker 2: you know. And Kate's I mean, I guess I just
- 32:14Speaker 2: always thought, Okay, he's he's your fourth line center, and
- 32:18Speaker 2: how much can you really expect out of that? But
- 32:20Speaker 2: he's been he's been doing really well. And then the
- 32:24Speaker 2: goaltending is another pleasant surprise. Particularly Vladar. I think he's
- 32:29Speaker 2: been Damn he's been, uh just such an improvement over
- 32:34Speaker 2: over what we saw last year to the point where
- 32:37Speaker 2: I mean Erson, I mean, I don't know if it's
- 32:41Speaker 2: one in one A but or one A and one B.
- 32:44Speaker 2: But Vladar is not going to be one B for
- 32:46Speaker 2: too much longer. If that's a situation, it's in because
- 32:49Speaker 2: he has come in and I think he's done a
- 32:52Speaker 2: really really strong job so far.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I'm watching games and I'm like, thank God for damn Vladar,
- 32:58Speaker 1: thank God, because really, I I thought I thought Sam
- 33:02Speaker 1: Erson would have started probably like you know, four or
- 33:04Speaker 1: five games at this point, you know, maybe and been
- 33:07Speaker 1: like and and that's not the case, because I I
- 33:12Speaker 1: don't know what it is with some guys. Maybe they
- 33:14Speaker 1: just need a change of scenery. Maybe maybe a change
- 33:17Speaker 1: of scenery, maybe a change in coaching, like we were
- 33:19Speaker 1: talking about, you know, going from you know, going from
- 33:23Speaker 1: Torts to uh Rick Tockett. It's just changes of scenery
- 33:28Speaker 1: means so much in the world of sports, and I
- 33:30Speaker 1: don't need to be so general with it, but really
- 33:33Speaker 1: that in itself can make or break professional athletes at times.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And yeah, Vladar is in a new situation and he's
- 33:40Speaker 1: flourishing in it. Yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 2: And last year he lost the Calgary job due I
- 33:46Speaker 2: believe Dustin Wolfe was a Calder candidate. I mean, had
- 33:49Speaker 2: just a phenomenal year and he just needed to find
- 33:52Speaker 2: a different situation where he could come in and potentially
- 33:56Speaker 2: be the guy. And usually there's no better place for
- 34:00Speaker 2: that in Philadelphia with regard to the goal situation exactly. So,
- 34:03Speaker 2: I mean, he found the right spot and he's making
- 34:05Speaker 2: it happen. So far, he's you know, you talked about
- 34:08Speaker 2: the split of games he's he's played and started in
- 34:11Speaker 2: five so far to four for Arson. So yeah, I
- 34:14Speaker 2: mean it's I mean, it looks like they might be
- 34:17Speaker 2: going for some kind of fifty to fifty split there.
- 34:19Speaker 2: But I mean it seems like, I mean they're you know,
- 34:23Speaker 2: if you thought Erson was going to be the guy
- 34:25Speaker 2: coming in this year, that's not been the case.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:28Speaker 1: I'm happy about that, very happy about that, all right, buddy. Yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 1: any anything else for I let you go here before
- 34:34Speaker 1: we get some college football talk with our guests this week.
- 34:37Speaker 2: No, I just hopefully you know these it's easy to
- 34:42Speaker 2: get sucked in with, especially with the Sixers and the Flyers.
- 34:46Speaker 2: You know, a hot start or even a better start
- 34:49Speaker 2: than you expected in the Flyers case, we'll we'll kind
- 34:51Speaker 2: of do that. I mean, I would imagine at some
- 34:53Speaker 2: point the rug just gonna get things. Things may come
- 34:57Speaker 2: down a little bit. I mean in the Sixers case,
- 35:00Speaker 2: you know, maybe you know, teams are gonna realize, all right,
- 35:03Speaker 2: you know, especially if Embiid's not in, we're gonna be
- 35:05Speaker 2: able to pound these guys inside and they're not gonna
- 35:08Speaker 2: have an answer for it. And it'll be interesting to
- 35:10Speaker 2: see how the Sixers CounterPunch there, like what they're what
- 35:12Speaker 2: they're gonna do to remedy that. But you know, it's
- 35:17Speaker 2: it's been fun early and hopefully that fun continues.
- 35:19Speaker 1: All right. That's a great way to end this segment,
- 35:22Speaker 1: before we go to break, and before we get to
- 35:25Speaker 1: what we're throwing down on the table. My friend, great
- 35:27Speaker 1: seeing you, chug that bear.
- 35:29Speaker 3: See you as always.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Oh, we're gonna take a break, folks, and when we
- 35:34Speaker 1: get back, we're gonna get into some college football talk.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Stick with us and now on the table. All right,
- 35:43Speaker 1: we are back with our good buddy Joe Dalleone from
- 35:47Speaker 1: A to Z sports dot Com. Head on over to
- 35:50Speaker 1: eight z sports dot com. They have fantastic content the
- 35:53Speaker 1: world of football, just the sports world in general. We
- 35:55Speaker 1: got to dive into some college football talk, a lot
- 35:57Speaker 1: of great storylines. Joe Man, thanks so much for joining
- 36:00Speaker 1: this week.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, excited to chop it up and catch
- 36:03Speaker 4: up on what's happening in college football.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Absolutely, dude, Like we're gonna get into Penn State. You
- 36:08Speaker 1: can see I got my Penn State shirt on here. Okay,
- 36:11Speaker 1: you know I'm gonna lum, We're gonna get into this team.
- 36:14Speaker 1: As a lot of our listeners know, you know, we
- 36:16Speaker 1: dive into some Penn State talk every now and again.
- 36:18Speaker 1: But like, I really wanted to start the conversation off
- 36:22Speaker 1: because I'm not sure we've seen this in quite some
- 36:24Speaker 1: time on how the initial college football rankings were. Right
- 36:29Speaker 1: when the season started back in September, Texas was number
- 36:32Speaker 1: one in the nation. Penn State, you know, for several
- 36:35Speaker 1: weeks they were a top five team even though they
- 36:38Speaker 1: were you know, really walking a fine line at times.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I was at the Florida International game and it was, honestly,
- 36:43Speaker 1: the first half was kind of a I don't want
- 36:46Speaker 1: to say debacle, but it was surprising how Penn State
- 36:48Speaker 1: was not able to move the ball offensively against Florida International. Anyway,
- 36:52Speaker 1: we've seen some big time drops in rankings over the
- 36:55Speaker 1: past few weeks of play for a lot of different teams,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and again talking about Texas started off number one in
- 37:01Speaker 1: the nation and now they're ranked in the in the
- 37:03Speaker 1: twenties here at this point. And yes, sometimes upsets happen
- 37:07Speaker 1: in college football, but you know, we've seen a lot
- 37:10Speaker 1: of these ranked teams that just really weren't all that
- 37:13Speaker 1: good at all. Joe, So I'm wondering to get a
- 37:17Speaker 1: started off here. Were the initial rankings just sorely wrong
- 37:20Speaker 1: overall when the season started here? What are your thoughts
- 37:23Speaker 1: on this particular storyline.
- 37:25Speaker 4: Well, I don't think that they were sorely wrong, because
- 37:28Speaker 4: there are a reason for the hype for a lot
- 37:30Speaker 4: of these teams that clems in for Penn State, for Texas,
- 37:33Speaker 4: they have elite rosters. They've got very talented players, and
- 37:36Speaker 4: it's going to reflect in the twenty twenty six NFL
- 37:39Speaker 4: Draft and also future draft classes that a lot of
- 37:41Speaker 4: those guys are gonna get picked very early. Where now
- 37:45Speaker 4: things are completely changing and completely shifting is that there's
- 37:50Speaker 4: a lot easier of a time for teams that are
- 37:54Speaker 4: technically below these programs to knock off those top teams.
- 37:57Speaker 4: I think that there is been proven in college football
- 38:00Speaker 4: this year that there's a lot more balance. So a
- 38:03Speaker 4: good example is the Miami game game against Louisville. You
- 38:06Speaker 4: wouldn't really expect the team like Louisville to be able
- 38:08Speaker 4: to go toe to toe with with Miami, right they
- 38:10Speaker 4: were able to play them pretty pretty tightly. So I
- 38:13Speaker 4: think that this year we're starting to get more and
- 38:15Speaker 4: more proof that the Transfer Portal NIL has created a
- 38:18Speaker 4: lot more balance and a lot more spread out talent
- 38:20Speaker 4: across the sport that have created opportunities for these upsets
- 38:24Speaker 4: to occur.
- 38:25Speaker 1: That's pretty interesting because I love the word balance that
- 38:28Speaker 1: you use there, Joe, Because when the NIL was established,
- 38:31Speaker 1: if you remember Transfer Portal as well, there were so
- 38:35Speaker 1: many narratives that said this is going to destroy college football.
- 38:38Speaker 1: College football is going to be destroyed in the future.
- 38:41Speaker 1: And yes, we've seen some changes I'm not going to
- 38:43Speaker 1: say it's destroyed by any stretch of the imagination because
- 38:45Speaker 1: of the balance you talked about, it's making college football,
- 38:48Speaker 1: I think, actually more watchable in certain ways. Storylines to
- 38:52Speaker 1: follow are great, especially this season. I don't think the
- 38:56Speaker 1: transfer portal and the NIL has destroyed college football at all.
- 39:00Speaker 4: No, and I think that it's made it a lot
- 39:02Speaker 4: more compelling.
- 39:03Speaker 3: It's made it a lot more interesting to follow a.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Lot of these games because you actually have more opportunities
- 39:10Speaker 4: for teams that typically wouldn't be as competitive to win.
- 39:14Speaker 4: And I think that we're in this spot now where
- 39:17Speaker 4: even with the college football Playoff and being expanded, there
- 39:21Speaker 4: are still about twenty plus teams that are in the
- 39:24Speaker 4: mix for the playoff. And there are some instances where
- 39:27Speaker 4: would you talk about elimination games where teams drop a
- 39:31Speaker 4: game and they've got three losses. There's going to be
- 39:34Speaker 4: that every single week over the next coming weeks.
- 39:36Speaker 3: But there are a large swath.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Of teams that are now in the mix, and I
- 39:40Speaker 4: think that it is really been improved by the fact
- 39:45Speaker 4: that the transfer portal and NIL have enabled for more
- 39:49Speaker 4: guys to go and play for different teams instead of
- 39:51Speaker 4: getting buried on rosters.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great point. Really is a
- 39:54Speaker 1: great point. And really quick, folks, if you're watching on YouTube,
- 39:57Speaker 1: we are going to forgive Joe for wearing a Knicks
- 40:00Speaker 1: a Nick sweatshirt here in hoodie. Okay, we're gonna for
- 40:02Speaker 1: I'm kidding around Joe, my best friends Knicks fan. So anyway,
- 40:05Speaker 1: I just I love busting chops every now and again.
- 40:08Speaker 1: But anyway, let's continue getting into some other college football
- 40:12Speaker 1: talking some storylines too, because we're at that point in
- 40:15Speaker 1: the season now where we're starting to talk about who
- 40:18Speaker 1: may actually get that Heisman Trophy. I mean, Indiana's quarterback
- 40:21Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoz, I'm certainly a top contender here at this point.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, I don't really really think he was
- 40:27Speaker 1: a top top contender on folks radar when the season
- 40:31Speaker 1: started initially. But Alabama's quarterback Ty Simpson also is in
- 40:36Speaker 1: the mix as well. But man, Mendoza, just I mean,
- 40:38Speaker 1: what a magical season for the Hoosiers he's having here.
- 40:41Speaker 1: It's incredible what they've done. Who do you like right
- 40:44Speaker 1: now in the Heisman race at this point? And why Joe?
- 40:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Mendoz has been great, and he was
- 40:50Speaker 4: somebody that I really liked in the preseason is draft prospect,
- 40:53Speaker 4: and I wasn't really sure what to expect if that
- 40:56Speaker 4: he was gonna be able to hit the ground running
- 40:57Speaker 4: the way that he has in A big contributing factor
- 41:00Speaker 4: for that is that he's got a great receiver room
- 41:03Speaker 4: with Omar Cooper and Elijah Surratt that he can turn to.
- 41:06Speaker 3: He's got a lot of really solid targets.
- 41:08Speaker 4: As well as a deep running back group that's alongside him.
- 41:11Speaker 4: But the guys that I think that are in the
- 41:13Speaker 4: best position to win because they've got more premier matchups
- 41:17Speaker 4: down the line, They're gonna be in a lot more
- 41:19Speaker 4: national spotlights. I do really like Tys Simpson as being
- 41:22Speaker 4: the eventual winner. I think that so far this season
- 41:25Speaker 4: he has been a guy who has had multiple spots,
- 41:28Speaker 4: multiple instances where he has proved his importance for his team.
- 41:32Speaker 4: The one throw that comes to mind that he had
- 41:34Speaker 4: against Missouri was a fourth down play where he had
- 41:37Speaker 4: to convert in order to help his team win. He
- 41:39Speaker 4: did the same thing this past week against South Carolina.
- 41:42Speaker 4: He had to make clutch throws in order to help
- 41:44Speaker 4: his team avoid an upset. He to me has been
- 41:48Speaker 4: the most aggressive and decisive player, the best playmaker of
- 41:54Speaker 4: any of the quarterbacks so far this year.
- 41:56Speaker 3: But I would also include in the mix.
- 41:57Speaker 4: I think Trinidad Chambliss from Ole Miss has been a
- 42:00Speaker 4: tremendous high impact guy for an almost team that I
- 42:04Speaker 4: don't think they would have been getting this far if
- 42:05Speaker 4: it wasn't for his role in that offense. And then lastly,
- 42:09Speaker 4: I think that Gunner stocked him for Georgia doesn't get
- 42:13Speaker 4: enough love. I think that their defense right now is
- 42:16Speaker 4: really struggling and they don't have a pass rush, and
- 42:18Speaker 4: the only way that they're going to be able to
- 42:19Speaker 4: win games is.
- 42:20Speaker 3: By outscoring teams.
- 42:21Speaker 4: And the way that they're outscoring teams is Gunner stocked
- 42:24Speaker 4: in making big play after big play and making a
- 42:27Speaker 4: lot of throws that most guys in the sport right
- 42:29Speaker 4: now are not able to make.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Yeah, these are some fantastic football players. I think, you know,
- 42:34Speaker 1: from a college football perspective, that definitely going to be
- 42:37Speaker 1: keeping our eyes on during this Heisman Trophy race. But
- 42:41Speaker 1: as we're moving along here, Joe, we wanted to get
- 42:44Speaker 1: into some head coaching, you know, possible prospects with storylines
- 42:47Speaker 1: that have gone on. Brian Kelly my gosh out at
- 42:51Speaker 1: LSU as the head coach. We know that again I
- 42:54Speaker 1: mentioned earlier my beloved Penn State Nitny Lions are going
- 42:56Speaker 1: to be looking for their next head coach and who's
- 42:59Speaker 1: going to be leading next, Nitney lyon Era. I'm wondering
- 43:02Speaker 1: what your thoughts are on both of these teams, their
- 43:06Speaker 1: athletic departments and who they who they might end up
- 43:08Speaker 1: considering to lead both of these teams, both LSU and
- 43:12Speaker 1: Penn State. What are your thoughts here?
- 43:14Speaker 4: Yeah, LSU is gonna be really interesting to track because
- 43:17Speaker 4: it's already been a pretty messy situation.
- 43:20Speaker 1: It has politicians are getting involved. It's like, what the heck?
- 43:24Speaker 4: Yeah, the governor involvement has made it really messy, and
- 43:27Speaker 4: I'm hoping that it calms down a little.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Bit because it's not going to really be very attractive.
- 43:33Speaker 4: To many of the big names that are looking into
- 43:36Speaker 4: potentially taking that job. And I think that the first
- 43:38Speaker 4: two names that are gonna get brought up because they
- 43:40Speaker 4: have high aspirations is going to be Dan Lanning at
- 43:43Speaker 4: Oregon and Lane Kiffen at at Old Miss. They're both
- 43:48Speaker 4: elevating their programs. I think that getting Lane Kiffin's a
- 43:50Speaker 4: little bit more accomplishable because there's some more limitations at
- 43:53Speaker 4: Old Miss. But Dan Lanning is one of those guys
- 43:56Speaker 4: that I think you got to push him until he
- 43:58Speaker 4: actually truly says no. You never know what you could
- 44:01Speaker 4: get out of him if you really really try to
- 44:04Speaker 4: pursue him and convince him to take the LSU job.
- 44:06Speaker 3: But he's got everything that he wants at Oregon.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Outside of that, though, John Summerl at Tulane has been
- 44:11Speaker 4: a consistent winner, and I think that it wouldn't really
- 44:15Speaker 4: hurt them to look at the G five level as
- 44:17Speaker 4: well as ex Goallesh at USF.
- 44:19Speaker 3: There are a lot of great coaches.
- 44:20Speaker 4: At the G five level and it might be a
- 44:22Speaker 4: little bit more of a safer option, one that is
- 44:24Speaker 4: going to be a lot less expensive if they decided
- 44:27Speaker 4: to go that route. And then for the Penn State
- 44:29Speaker 4: side of things, yes, I think both those guys apply
- 44:32Speaker 4: summer All and goal Lesh apply for Penn State. It
- 44:34Speaker 4: might be best for them to look in that direction
- 44:38Speaker 4: of going G five and somebody who's been a programed
- 44:41Speaker 4: builder and an elevator. And then I think that the
- 44:43Speaker 4: thought of Eli Drinkwitz from Missouri would be really interesting
- 44:47Speaker 4: because I feel like Drinkuitz has turned Missouri into a
- 44:51Speaker 4: consistent winner, But you place him into a situation at
- 44:53Speaker 4: Penn State where it's not that there's really recruiting limitations
- 44:57Speaker 4: at Missouri, but I think that there'd be a lot
- 44:59Speaker 4: more fuel to improving the program in him reaching a
- 45:03Speaker 4: different ceiling if he was in the Big ten, if
- 45:07Speaker 4: he was at Penn State and he was able to
- 45:08Speaker 4: recruit in that region.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting, you know, following Penn State as closely
- 45:13Speaker 1: as I do, Joe, that you had James Franklin, who,
- 45:16Speaker 1: quite frankly, from a recruiting standpoint, was amazing. He was
- 45:20Speaker 1: you know, I mean, was he on the level of
- 45:22Speaker 1: Ohio State necessarily? Not really, And I mean that's at
- 45:25Speaker 1: the end of the day, that was really the issue
- 45:27Speaker 1: that he just couldn't beat the Ohio States. It was
- 45:32Speaker 1: difficult to be top ten teams in key situations year
- 45:36Speaker 1: after year. But I do wonder who that coach is
- 45:40Speaker 1: going to be that's going to be able to elevate
- 45:42Speaker 1: what James Franklin had done for well over a decade.
- 45:46Speaker 1: And I'm not necessarily sure that there is a concise
- 45:50Speaker 1: answer to that, because there is a certain expectation level
- 45:54Speaker 1: for US fans that the program and the recruiting process
- 45:58Speaker 1: needs to stay very consistent. But how do you elevate
- 46:02Speaker 1: it and with what head coach is going to really
- 46:04Speaker 1: make all that difference in the world's that's where That's
- 46:07Speaker 1: where I'm at, and I just don't know if there's
- 46:08Speaker 1: a concise answer.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think that trying to find this next
- 46:13Speaker 4: head coach for Penn State is going to be really
- 46:15Speaker 4: complicated because originally Penn State was the biggest job open,
- 46:20Speaker 4: and then at the time it was, oh, maybe Florida
- 46:22Speaker 4: comes open as well. But now you have all these
- 46:24Speaker 4: other big jobs, and it also begs the question do
- 46:27Speaker 4: we see other openings happen as well? Because all these
- 46:32Speaker 4: other big brands panic right because of the performance of
- 46:35Speaker 4: their teams. And I'm talking about Auburn with Hugh Freeze,
- 46:38Speaker 4: Oklahoma with Britton Venables. Do those either of those teams
- 46:42Speaker 4: feel incentivized to get rid of their coaches because they
- 46:45Speaker 4: feel like everybody else is trying to upgrade and they
- 46:48Speaker 4: don't want to go into next season, you know, a
- 46:51Speaker 4: step behind and then go in the next season with
- 46:54Speaker 4: not having the right man to turn the program around.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, well, folks, we're gonna take a quick
- 46:59Speaker 1: break here and when we come back we got a
- 47:01Speaker 1: lot more college football talk. But before that, again, Joe
- 47:04Speaker 1: Dalleone is here from ADZ sports dot com. Joe, let
- 47:07Speaker 1: everybody know where they can find you on the socials
- 47:09Speaker 1: out there if they want to connect with you.
- 47:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you can find me on x at Joe de
- 47:14Speaker 4: and de Leon and then go check out The Rafino
- 47:16Speaker 4: and Joe Show, which is my college football podcast. You
- 47:18Speaker 4: can find me on YouTube as well as any of
- 47:21Speaker 4: your audio podcast platforms.
- 47:22Speaker 1: All right, we're gonna take that break now, we'll be
- 47:25Speaker 1: back in just a bit with more college football talk.
- 47:31Speaker 1: All right, we are back, and again we are with
- 47:34Speaker 1: Joe Dalleone from a to Z sports dot com The
- 47:37Speaker 1: Raffino and Joe Show Podcast. Subscribe on Apple Music. That's
- 47:42Speaker 1: where I subscribe whatever podcast platforms that are listening to
- 47:46Speaker 1: us on and here on YouTube as well. All right,
- 47:50Speaker 1: let's let's continue with with getting into this college football
- 47:53Speaker 1: season here, Joe, because you've got three teams in Texas
- 47:57Speaker 1: A and m Georgia Tech and by you three times,
- 48:01Speaker 1: three teams outside of the top two teams that are
- 48:04Speaker 1: still undefeated. So I'm wondering, which of those three teams
- 48:09Speaker 1: do you think could really take on Ohio State or
- 48:11Speaker 1: even Indiana, the number one and the number two teams
- 48:14Speaker 1: in the nation, and really give them a run for
- 48:17Speaker 1: their money. I mean, essentially, do you think any of
- 48:20Speaker 1: those three teams are strong enough to possibly get to
- 48:25Speaker 1: number one, number two, or number three in the nation
- 48:27Speaker 1: over the next couple weeks?
- 48:28Speaker 3: Here?
- 48:28Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here?
- 48:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I personally I think that BYU is a little
- 48:34Speaker 4: bit overrated. I kind of think that they have benefited
- 48:38Speaker 4: from a lot of things going their way and a
- 48:41Speaker 4: lot of these games that they've had. I think that
- 48:43Speaker 4: having a true fresher quarterback Well Bachmeyer has been tremendous.
- 48:46Speaker 4: It's gonna end up catching up to them at a
- 48:48Speaker 4: certain point. Georgia Tech is I think the best position
- 48:51Speaker 4: to go undefeated because they have the best schedule, but
- 48:54Speaker 4: they're not the best team to legitimately challenge any of
- 48:57Speaker 4: the top teams in college football. Texas A and M
- 49:00Speaker 4: that definition because they have so much explosiveness at wide receiver.
- 49:04Speaker 4: Concepcion and Craver have been really, really impactful players as
- 49:08Speaker 4: well as Marcel Reid, who is been in the heism
- 49:10Speaker 4: A conversation. He's kind of on the back end of
- 49:12Speaker 4: the mix, but he has such a dynamic playmaking ability
- 49:16Speaker 4: for the way that he plays quarterback, and their run
- 49:18Speaker 4: game has been awesome as well. Even without level Moss
- 49:21Speaker 4: Ruben Owens has stepped up and been a really really
- 49:24Speaker 4: just hard nosed runner that has made big play after
- 49:27Speaker 4: big play. Defensively, I do have some concerns with the
- 49:30Speaker 4: run defense because in instances where they've played against teams
- 49:34Speaker 4: that have explosive rushing attacks, whether it be Arkansas, whether
- 49:37Speaker 4: it be Notre Dame, they've given up a lot of
- 49:38Speaker 4: big plays. But outside of that, their defense has a
- 49:41Speaker 4: lot of athletes all over it, a lot of guys
- 49:43Speaker 4: that are.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Going to get looks very highly in the upcoming draft. Yeah.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I'm a very big cashes Hollo fan. I think the
- 49:49Speaker 3: cash hel is a.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Very unique and disruptive pass rusher that's just got really
- 49:54Speaker 4: good hand usage.
- 49:55Speaker 3: He's got great burst.
- 49:56Speaker 4: I think that this whole roster is just so well
- 49:59Speaker 4: put together, and Mike Elko has his team playing with intensity.
- 50:03Speaker 4: They're not staring down adversity and freaking out they are
- 50:06Speaker 4: just doing everything right and they legitimately have that best
- 50:09Speaker 4: shot to maybe even go to a national championship this year.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Wow, amazing if they would be able to get to
- 50:13Speaker 1: that national championship game. And dude, that's why college football
- 50:17Speaker 1: is great. Now. I love the expanded playoff, I really do.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I am such a fan of it. I know we're
- 50:21Speaker 1: not going to get into any college football playoff talk here,
- 50:25Speaker 1: but I did want to get into a subject with you,
- 50:28Speaker 1: and quite frankly, we have not dove into this at
- 50:30Speaker 1: all on this podcast platform during this college football season.
- 50:34Speaker 1: But it's the Bill Belichick experiment in North Carolina that
- 50:38Speaker 1: has been a complete and total utter embarrassment. He was Joe.
- 50:43Speaker 1: He was supposed to take North Carolina to the next
- 50:46Speaker 1: level in college football, to make them an elite team,
- 50:49Speaker 1: but it has been the complete opposite. As we know.
- 50:53Speaker 1: I mean, the team looks worse than it has over
- 50:55Speaker 1: the past six years or so. And he took part
- 50:58Speaker 1: in actually building where this his team is at this
- 51:00Speaker 1: year basically from scratch. You know, I think he added
- 51:03Speaker 1: like what seventy new players something like that this year
- 51:07Speaker 1: in the you know, in the in the off season.
- 51:09Speaker 1: So I guess what are your thoughts on why this
- 51:13Speaker 1: has turned into such a train wreck and what should
- 51:16Speaker 1: North Carolina actually do about it at this point?
- 51:19Speaker 4: Well, I think that they shouldn't just immediately pull the plug,
- 51:23Speaker 4: because there's there's been a pretty significant commitment to try
- 51:26Speaker 4: and make this work. It seems like from a lot
- 51:28Speaker 4: of the reporting that's been done on this, Michael Lombardi,
- 51:31Speaker 4: who's the general manager, has been.
- 51:33Speaker 3: One of the biggest issues for this.
- 51:35Speaker 4: A lot of people have questioned if he's qualified to
- 51:37Speaker 4: even have this job. He's getting paid an exorbitant amount
- 51:40Speaker 4: of money that is way more than the typical general manager,
- 51:43Speaker 4: and he's got no experience of serving in that role.
- 51:46Speaker 4: So I think that a lot of the problems that
- 51:48Speaker 4: they have really funnel towards that.
- 51:50Speaker 3: Okay, if Belichick wants.
- 51:52Speaker 4: To improve and take this thing into a better direction,
- 51:55Speaker 4: needs a fire Lombardi. He needs to hire an actual
- 51:57Speaker 4: college general manager that's at a program that is been
- 52:01Speaker 4: built up, that you know, a guy that's been around
- 52:04Speaker 4: that has had sustained success. I think that there is
- 52:07Speaker 4: redeemability here, and I think that North Carolina could end
- 52:10Speaker 4: up finishing the year strong, but completely putting the plug
- 52:13Speaker 4: on everything. If Belichick has a desire to continue doing this,
- 52:17Speaker 4: I think would be a little bit hasty, and I
- 52:18Speaker 4: think it would be a little bit rushed, because there
- 52:20Speaker 4: still is a path for North Carolina to become competitive
- 52:23Speaker 4: and to be a sustained top program in the ACC
- 52:28Speaker 4: if everything can go right.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Look, I really don't think this has much to do
- 52:31Speaker 1: with his girlfriend, to be honest with you. On the sidelines,
- 52:35Speaker 1: I mean, I know that's like the sexy aspect of
- 52:37Speaker 1: this quote sexy aspect of the story, but you're right,
- 52:40Speaker 1: I don't think it's that at all. A lot of
- 52:43Speaker 1: missteps along the way, specifically with Lombardy, like you were
- 52:45Speaker 1: talking about. So to close this out here, Joe, I mean,
- 52:49Speaker 1: we know that Indiana, as we talked about before, you know,
- 52:51Speaker 1: they're the big Cinderella surprise story really of this season.
- 52:54Speaker 1: They're number two in the nation right now as of
- 52:56Speaker 1: US recording this year. And I'm wondering, what are some
- 53:00Speaker 1: of the other quote low key teams that have really
- 53:03Speaker 1: surprised you this season in terms of how productive and
- 53:06Speaker 1: how good that they've been on the field. What are
- 53:09Speaker 1: your thoughts here.
- 53:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I had high expectations for Indiana this year, so
- 53:13Speaker 4: they've been a little bit less surprising for me, just
- 53:16Speaker 4: because they brought back so much experience, They brought back
- 53:20Speaker 4: so many of their top guys from last season, and
- 53:22Speaker 4: then the upgrade that they had with Mendoza at quarterback.
- 53:24Speaker 4: But one team that I think has been the most
- 53:27Speaker 4: surprising and has in really good positioning to get to
- 53:30Speaker 4: the playoff maybe even when a game it's old miss
- 53:33Speaker 4: and the thing for me this offseason, I didn't really
- 53:35Speaker 4: understand what to expect, and I think that there's still
- 53:37Speaker 4: limitations with what I wasn't super high on going into
- 53:42Speaker 4: the year, which is what they brought to the table. Defensively,
- 53:45Speaker 4: the run defense is quite porous. They've given up a
- 53:47Speaker 4: lot of big plays in the ground. But the wild
- 53:50Speaker 4: card has been Trinidad Chambliss when he stepped in for
- 53:53Speaker 4: Austin Simmons and he hasn't looked back. He is a
- 53:55Speaker 4: point guard style playmaker that fits perfectly with what Lane
- 53:59Speaker 4: Kiffen has wanted on offense. And I think that this
- 54:01Speaker 4: team is alive in any football game when he's back.
- 54:05Speaker 3: There, you know, taking snaps at quarterback.
- 54:07Speaker 4: They are a really really exciting fun team to watch
- 54:10Speaker 4: because at any point that the game I start to
- 54:13Speaker 4: get away from him like it did against Oklahoma, Chamblis
- 54:16Speaker 4: is capable of igniting that offense in producing some really
- 54:19Speaker 4: big play. So for me, Ole Miss definitely has been
- 54:21Speaker 4: the most surprising team, and they continue to prove me
- 54:24Speaker 4: wrong with the way that they've They've been showing up
- 54:26Speaker 4: every single week.
- 54:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a fun college football season, folks. We're going
