- 0:00Speaker 1: I was there for a second. I'm back.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Hello, how are you?
- 0:04Speaker 1: Thank you good?
- 0:05Speaker 2: I'm good. What's been happening?
- 0:08Speaker 1: Not much where We're leaving on Wednesday, so it's it's madness.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's starting off your Aussie tour or you
- 0:15Speaker 3: touring somewhere else now.
- 0:16Speaker 1: We are doing a massive sixteen date tour in Asia,
- 0:21Speaker 1: New Zealand and Australia.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, so yeah, because i've seen your date to
- 0:26Speaker 3: we're are your quite close to Christmas that you're coming
- 0:28Speaker 3: down on it.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I know they wanted to add Perth and I was
- 0:31Speaker 1: like no, So I'm sorry to Perth, but I'm like,
- 0:36Speaker 1: mine my first Christmas without my dad, which is not
- 0:42Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. But could you imagine I'm calling
- 0:44Speaker 1: my mom and being like, sorry, mom on the plane's delayed.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm not going to be home for Christmas and the
- 0:48Speaker 1: first one that i'm my dad. Yeah, I'm sorry Perth,
- 0:51Speaker 1: it's not happening.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, it's priorities for sure. Excuse me. So when was
- 0:57Speaker 2: the last time you guys were down on door?
- 0:59Speaker 1: It was twenty sixteen.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's been a little while.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's what I was thinking, almost ten years, which is crazy.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Wow, A lot has happened since then. We dropped an EP,
- 1:07Speaker 1: we dropped two albums, I Wan Juno, which is Canadian Grammy.
- 1:11Speaker 1: We went a lot to come back and share with
- 1:13Speaker 1: the Australian fans. So we're really excited to come back.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome, awesome.
- 1:17Speaker 3: So you know, you guys have been around for a
- 1:19Speaker 3: little while, You've got generations of fans, so anything.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It's at the it's at the point where, like you know,
- 1:26Speaker 1: fathers come with their kids towards shows, which is something
- 1:28Speaker 1: that I love and the kids, and the kids aren't
- 1:31Speaker 1: like twelve anymore or younger, they're like.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Too.
- 1:36Speaker 1: It's it's pretty cool. It's it's it's a really interesting
- 1:39Speaker 1: thing that not many bands have because chriptops never never stopped.
- 1:44Speaker 1: There was no hiatus. The band always continued. Yeah, Lowe
- 1:48Speaker 1: has always been there, just pushing this through.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So any any plans for the set list
- 1:53Speaker 2: too too?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Uh yeah, absolutely. It's a special tour because we're celebrating
- 1:58Speaker 1: the thirtieth anniversary of Kryptopsies. I can say this because
- 2:02Speaker 1: I'm not on the record very it's an iconic record
- 2:05Speaker 1: for death metal. It's called Nonso Vile, so we're doing
- 2:07Speaker 1: the thirtieth anniversary tour for Nonsovile, so we're gonna be
- 2:10Speaker 1: playing a lot of nonso Vile, not all of it,
- 2:13Speaker 1: because we have a lot of other bands, other bands,
- 2:16Speaker 1: We have a lot of other albums that we want
- 2:17Speaker 1: to showcase material from, mostly our newest e era stuff,
- 2:23Speaker 1: so the past five years of the band's era incarnation
- 2:29Speaker 1: of Kryptopsies, So we're honoring nonso Vile, we're playing our
- 2:32Speaker 1: favorite tracks off of that one, and we're going to
- 2:34Speaker 1: play a lot of new stuff.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Yeah, So that's exciting for the fast look for to
- 2:39Speaker 3: We're going to get a little bit of the old
- 2:41Speaker 3: and the new, and it seems to.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Be exactly the go to now.
- 2:44Speaker 3: All the bands from that were huge in the mid
- 2:47Speaker 3: to late nineties are now doing their thirtieth anniversary tours, which,
- 2:50Speaker 3: as middle age, is crazy.
- 2:51Speaker 1: It's crazy, and we're also like mixing it up. We
- 2:55Speaker 1: toured with Death to All luckily we have the opportunity
- 2:58Speaker 1: to do that last year. And the way that they
- 3:01Speaker 1: approached honoring albums by not doing the album and its
- 3:05Speaker 1: order is also interesting because it keeps the fans on
- 3:08Speaker 1: their toes and they're not quite sure what's coming next,
- 3:11Speaker 1: which when you're at a concert, you don't necessarily want
- 3:15Speaker 1: to know what's next. You want to be surprised.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Do you want to be back?
- 3:19Speaker 1: So so we messed around with that to the pacing
- 3:22Speaker 1: of the set. It's it's a very cinematic experience that
- 3:27Speaker 1: we're trying to bring live in the upcoming years of Kryptopsy.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So this is the first time that we're messing around
- 3:35Speaker 1: with interesting, longer samples and we're excited to see how
- 3:40Speaker 1: that feels and works in a live setting.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess it's a good opportunity as well for
- 3:46Speaker 3: yourselves but also fans to take us role.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We could like take a break.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, people are understanding for that. It's high. Probably take
- 3:57Speaker 2: a break in between as well. It's it's five, we'll
- 4:03Speaker 2: be back. Have we nap on my legs?
- 4:07Speaker 1: Amazing exactly. I heard a CDC's in town touring around
- 4:14Speaker 1: the same time as us. I know Dying Fetus will
- 4:16Speaker 1: have just wrapped up. So it's a heavy month for
- 4:20Speaker 1: metal in Australia.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I'm double books everywhere, like there are so many tours happening,
- 4:26Speaker 3: back to back, interviews, tours, album released, It's just that
- 4:29Speaker 3: it's a crazy time November December goes.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I like it. I like it. What's your summer? Right?
- 4:36Speaker 1: So we're running away from the snow. I've heard it's
- 4:38Speaker 1: very hot.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It is so hot right now.
- 4:40Speaker 3: I'm just like, I'm like, why did I not open
- 4:42Speaker 3: my sliding door just before I started?
- 4:45Speaker 2: And we've got crazy storm season at the moment to so.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, not during our flights though, it's gonna be perfect.
- 4:52Speaker 2: But yeah, Brisbane and the East Coast we cope it
- 4:54Speaker 2: pretty good. So we've had it. We've got a week
- 4:56Speaker 2: of it apparently this week.
- 4:57Speaker 3: So I'm being sent to to review and photograph and
- 5:02Speaker 3: cover cold on Friday night.
- 5:03Speaker 2: So I'm just like, please don't storm, Please don't storm.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Positive vibes will be good.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yes, So that's we're hoping hopefully it's o good.
- 5:11Speaker 3: But yeah, so you guys are I said, you've big
- 5:14Speaker 3: chance for yourselves and up the fans to see the
- 5:17Speaker 3: wide range of musicality you guys have had over the time.
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I guess changing back reconnecting with the Australian fans
- 5:24Speaker 1: after all these years. We're looking forward to it. The
- 5:27Speaker 1: band is really in a different space than it was
- 5:28Speaker 1: in twenty sixteen. So I'm excited to reshare reconnect with
- 5:33Speaker 1: all these people, and hopefully there's some new fans that
- 5:35Speaker 1: come as some old fans because Kryptopsy's coming. We're firing
- 5:38Speaker 1: on all cylinders.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Excellent. It sounds like it's certainly something for us to
- 5:43Speaker 3: all look forward to. So, you guys have been touring
- 5:46Speaker 3: for a long time. What's the most unhinge thing that
- 5:48Speaker 3: you've had to happen on tour that you can say
- 5:50Speaker 3: safely on an interviewer.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Oh, there's so many horrible things, but nothing that I
- 5:56Speaker 1: could really say. You know, there's always the travel.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Disasters and inevitable.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Strange things, power issues in Latin America, but they're they're
- 6:06Speaker 1: just the crowd is so amazing that you just forget
- 6:08Speaker 1: about all these things. I think, like the only real
- 6:11Speaker 1: place that we ever really feel like really out of place,
- 6:16Speaker 1: like as as someone from Montreal, is when we go
- 6:20Speaker 1: to Japan. I find it's it's always the most shocking
- 6:23Speaker 1: culturally for us really, which we really enjoy and it
- 6:28Speaker 1: feels it feels nice to be destabilized and in a
- 6:32Speaker 1: totally different cultural experience.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Because they're hardcore, hardcore death metal fans in Japan, like
- 6:37Speaker 3: they really want into it.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And if I bring the mic to my mouth to
- 6:42Speaker 1: say something, they just go.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Wh It's incredible.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Everyone is listening and everyone it's the respect that they
- 6:51Speaker 1: bring towards the artists is something very different than what
- 6:55Speaker 1: experiencing North America. I could say, you know, there's always
- 7:00Speaker 1: that one drunk guy that screams Slayer. Maybe that will
- 7:03Speaker 1: happen in Japan this time, just because I'm saying it
- 7:05Speaker 1: now that there's the Slayer guy, We'll come out of
- 7:08Speaker 1: the woodwork, I'm saying.
- 7:10Speaker 2: As I'm saying maybe maybe.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Just because I'm bringing it up, but there's always like,
- 7:17Speaker 1: you know, we like to drink beer, we like to
- 7:19Speaker 1: have fun. But we're getting older so so, and we
- 7:23Speaker 1: do tour a lot now, so it's not like we
- 7:26Speaker 1: go out once a year and this is our vacation
- 7:29Speaker 1: and we're gonna let let loose and debauchery every night. Physically,
- 7:35Speaker 1: can't we can't.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 7:37Speaker 1: There's nights that we slip, right, Everyone slips up on
- 7:39Speaker 1: a tour once or twice. But it's basically we're so
- 7:44Speaker 1: on the road all the time that if we were
- 7:46Speaker 1: to do it all the time, it would be detrimental
- 7:48Speaker 1: to our bodies and our health. So we're at the
- 7:50Speaker 1: point that we're we're more mature mentally as well as physically. Sadly, Yeah, and.
- 7:56Speaker 3: I think as you know, as we get a bit older,
- 7:58Speaker 3: as we approach out, I mean to like forties.
- 8:01Speaker 1: We realized exactly. Yeah. Probably one of the craziest things
- 8:05Speaker 1: that we did was on the last station tour is
- 8:08Speaker 1: that we played in Read, which is in Saudi Arabia, right,
- 8:11Speaker 1: and we were the first international metal band to ever
- 8:14Speaker 1: play a show interesting in Read. So that was a
- 8:18Speaker 1: pure culture shock as well. It was very very different
- 8:21Speaker 1: and interesting and a strict like here are the rules
- 8:26Speaker 1: that you cannot do, like I couldn't swear on stage,
- 8:29Speaker 1: we can't spit, I can't ask them to tamash. They
- 8:35Speaker 1: still did and it was a lot of fun. It
- 8:38Speaker 1: was a real interesting experience. But that that's one of
- 8:40Speaker 1: those like I didn't realize how important that show was
- 8:44Speaker 1: until about a few days before when I spoke to
- 8:47Speaker 1: the promoter and she was like, no, you're the first
- 8:50Speaker 1: Metallica is coming in two weeks, but you're the first.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Wow, that's why.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, okay, now I get it.
- 8:58Speaker 1: So there was no nerves and we weren't worried about
- 9:01Speaker 1: anything bad happening like riots from stuff. It was just
- 9:07Speaker 1: like a very We knew that there was something unique.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, new to their culture and did not knowing
- 9:14Speaker 2: what to expect.
- 9:15Speaker 3: That would be a little bit terrifying at the same
- 9:17Speaker 3: time as you know, exciting, but it was fun.
- 9:19Speaker 1: They fed us so much food. They love to feed,
- 9:24Speaker 1: no alcohol, so they fed us.
- 9:25Speaker 3: But yeah, very interesting, very not normal, not for us, No, No,
- 9:34Speaker 3: that's some Yeah, that would be definitely one to remember
- 9:36Speaker 3: for the.
- 9:37Speaker 2: One for the history books for sure. Absolutely pretty exciting.
- 9:40Speaker 2: So yeah, we did.
- 9:41Speaker 3: We had any time I could finish up during here,
- 9:43Speaker 3: so they just did Australia. So we love our death metal.
- 9:47Speaker 3: And I said, it's that time of view where everyone's
- 9:49Speaker 3: coming out, so you certainly are they. She's only giving
- 9:52Speaker 3: the four Majors and they all sold out, are they?
- 9:56Speaker 1: I would hope so that they're they? Yeah, I hope.
- 10:00Speaker 1: So let's go.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I know, with the support at that you've got onto
- 10:03Speaker 2: all this time.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I know that my very good friends in Heathen Spawn
- 10:08Speaker 1: are playing in nice, Canberra and Sydney that I know.
- 10:14Speaker 1: There is the Ever Black podcast, right Neve is his name.
- 10:20Speaker 1: His band is playing Snake. I should remember the names,
- 10:25Speaker 1: but I know that he is playing one of the shows.
- 10:27Speaker 1: But I'm not completely familiar with the rest of the
- 10:29Speaker 1: bands on the package stand, but I am looking forward
- 10:32Speaker 1: to exploring them when when they do play with us
- 10:34Speaker 1: hang out backstage. So I apologize that to break down
- 10:36Speaker 1: everyone's names, but I know my good friend Jim is
- 10:38Speaker 1: playing two shows with eathen Spawn.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Oh awesome.
- 10:41Speaker 3: That's always nice to poe with you mates, isn't it
- 10:44Speaker 3: always hang out?
- 10:45Speaker 2: And sometimes exactly exactly?
- 10:49Speaker 1: And I hope, I hope, I don't. I don't know
- 10:50Speaker 1: if Psychroptic are going to be at home. I know
- 10:52Speaker 1: that they don't necessarily come from that, they're more from Tasmania,
- 10:55Speaker 1: but I would.
- 10:56Speaker 3: Love to see them nice, nice, well maybe put the
- 10:58Speaker 3: shout out.
- 10:59Speaker 2: There and.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Absolutely yeah for sure.
- 11:03Speaker 3: So yeah, So obviously you said you guys have been
- 11:06Speaker 3: touring quite a lot recently.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I guess it's that let's.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Sage in your koreer where you know, you bunk it
- 11:11Speaker 3: down and you've got your albums out there and your
- 11:13Speaker 3: fans have locked in and you've read them over the years,
- 11:16Speaker 3: and now you can just let them joy.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Also there there's a finite timeline for how long we
- 11:22Speaker 1: can do this, and we do see that light at
- 11:24Speaker 1: the end of the tunnel. With our drummer being the
- 11:28Speaker 1: sole founding member of the band, he turned fifty recently,
- 11:33Speaker 1: and there's this we don't want to be. I don't
- 11:37Speaker 1: know if you like wrestling or at all, but Rick Flair.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Rick Flair wrestled far too late and those last matches
- 11:43Speaker 1: that Rick Flair was doing was was not the most
- 11:47Speaker 1: beautiful thing to watch. So we don't want to be
- 11:50Speaker 1: like Rick Flair. We want to go out while we're
- 11:52Speaker 1: still on top, in prime shape, and then call it
- 11:55Speaker 1: a day when we're still banging on all cylinders. So
- 11:58Speaker 1: that day is approaching, hopefully not anytime soon. So we
- 12:02Speaker 1: are really trying to strike it while it's hot, get
- 12:05Speaker 1: out there, connect with the most amount of fans as possible,
- 12:09Speaker 1: release more music to the fans. It's a it's a
- 12:13Speaker 1: huge priority for us. The band is a cohesive unit,
- 12:17Speaker 1: the most that it's been in my era with the band,
- 12:21Speaker 1: which is in the past twenty years. We have never
- 12:23Speaker 1: been so tight. No like within the band, not speaking musically,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I'm talking about the mental yeah, and chemistry, chemistry within
- 12:35Speaker 1: the band.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Right now with you know, a bad marriage with four
- 12:38Speaker 2: different other.
- 12:39Speaker 1: People exactly, it's it's it's not easy, but we love
- 12:42Speaker 1: each other and we have our strengths. We have our differences, yeah,
- 12:47Speaker 1: but we get through it and we're we're all fighting
- 12:49Speaker 1: for the same cause. And that is the legacy, the
- 12:53Speaker 1: legacy and the future of Kryptopsy.
- 12:56Speaker 2: For sure, because you guys are quite ground baking.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I mean, you've can be going since you know some
- 13:00Speaker 3: of the the need to light eighties corrects.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, flo flow has been there since very late eighties
- 13:07Speaker 1: early nineties. Chris joined twenty years ago this October. I
- 13:13Speaker 1: will hit twenty years in twenty twenty seven. Ali will
- 13:16Speaker 1: hit twenty years in early twenty thirties. So so the
- 13:20Speaker 1: band released iconic albums before I was in the band,
- 13:23Speaker 1: before Chris was in the band. Blast Whom Made Flesh
- 13:26Speaker 1: Nouns Vile are iconic, legendary death metal records. They were
- 13:32Speaker 1: doing stuff way before other people were doing stuff. The viciousness,
- 13:38Speaker 1: the lyrical madness, the sheer, speed, the aggression, groove, the songwriting,
- 13:45Speaker 1: it was, It's all there on those early album absolutely
- 13:48Speaker 1: just just groundbreaking and very influential for the genres. So
- 13:52Speaker 1: so we're whenever we do anything in this modern era
- 13:56Speaker 1: of Kryptopsy, the legacy of that is always in the
- 14:00Speaker 1: front of our mind. That's the most important thing. How
- 14:02Speaker 1: will this affect the legacy? So we make all of
- 14:04Speaker 1: our decisions based upon that.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean quite technical.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Then it's kind of, you know, it was groundbreaking and
- 14:10Speaker 3: it's become the forefront of that genre of you know,
- 14:13Speaker 3: death metal, and it's kind of how to break away.
- 14:16Speaker 2: From you know that you say that space, that kid that,
- 14:20Speaker 2: you know, the whole thing.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But it's always about songwriting too, is the primary thing.
- 14:25Speaker 1: So we're honoring the legacy, but we're not going back
- 14:29Speaker 1: and just remaking None So Vile. Cryptopsy never did that.
- 14:32Speaker 1: They always pushed themselves. They always went and did something
- 14:36Speaker 1: more challenged themselves musically. They could have just made None
- 14:39Speaker 1: So Vile Part two and then Non So Vile Part three,
- 14:43Speaker 1: and hypothetically they would be where Cannibal corpses right now,
- 14:47Speaker 1: because that's sort of the path that they chose. But
- 14:50Speaker 1: Cryptopsy didn't do that. They went and they made Whisper Supremacy,
- 14:53Speaker 1: which is a very different record than None So Vile.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Far more chaotic, far more intense, faster jazzy, just just
- 15:03Speaker 1: completely avant garde in the style of extreme music. So
- 15:08Speaker 1: so it's Kryptopsy never rests on their laurels, so us
- 15:12Speaker 1: now when we're composing stuff, it's it's honoring the legacy,
- 15:16Speaker 1: trying to be relevant in this modern scape of what's
- 15:19Speaker 1: happening in extreme music right now, and try to have
- 15:24Speaker 1: fun with it too, because it's it's a job for
- 15:28Speaker 1: us now. But it's a fun job.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's it.
- 15:30Speaker 3: If you don't have fun, you know, then that's that's
- 15:32Speaker 3: the whole point. But it's the most I always say,
- 15:34Speaker 3: the most funny.
- 15:34Speaker 2: You can have closed on soa it's.
- 15:39Speaker 1: A huge part of myself, the yings of the yang
- 15:41Speaker 1: of who I am as a human is.
- 15:43Speaker 3: And it's just to bring that, you know, to join
- 15:45Speaker 3: to other the audience and to reciprocate that is such
- 15:47Speaker 3: a thing.
- 15:48Speaker 1: It's a beautiful, beautiful experience that I'm looking forward to
- 15:52Speaker 1: doing in the next few days in starting in Dubai.
- 15:56Speaker 2: No Wow, with all places to stop.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Well, yeah, we definitely looking forward to you guys coming out,
- 16:00Speaker 3: and no doubt there'll be one of their heavy team
- 16:03Speaker 3: and whether it's myself or not. I don't know quite
- 16:05Speaker 3: the sched yet. Will be definitely a your Brisbane show
- 16:07Speaker 3: to cover that wonderful.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Come and say hi and look someone else from your
- 16:12Speaker 1: team also please come say hi.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Please. Yeah, they definitely will
