- 0:40Speaker 3: Hey, that's all.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Willy Wednesday, Thanks for being with us. This portion program
- 0:44Speaker 1: brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. We're gonna hear from
- 0:48Speaker 1: Coach elco On coming up here in a few minutes
- 0:50Speaker 1: at the bottom of the hour. Scotland Dennon will join us.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Mallory is here in the back half of the second hour.
- 0:58Speaker 1: The nc DOUBLEA Administrative Committee has approved two significant changes
- 1:06Speaker 1: to the transfer portal today. There's a window in twenty
- 1:13Speaker 1: twenty six that'll run for two weeks from January second
- 1:16Speaker 1: to the sixteenth. The twelve team playoff, of course, runs
- 1:21Speaker 1: deep into January. Players who play that will have an
- 1:25Speaker 1: opportunity to start the transfer process during a five day
- 1:29Speaker 1: period starting the day after the final championship game. The
- 1:36Speaker 1: second pertains to transfer exceptions granted to players after coaching changes.
- 1:42Speaker 1: The exception now allows players to enter the transfer portal
- 1:46Speaker 1: during a thirty day window that opens a day after
- 1:48Speaker 1: the coach leaves or is fired. The committee approved a
- 1:51Speaker 1: new format, however, it's shortened to fifteen days and begins
- 1:56Speaker 1: five days after a new coach is hired. That will
- 2:02Speaker 1: crack down, I think on some of the transferring. They
- 2:09Speaker 1: also the NCUBA has been busy, and when they've been busy,
- 2:13Speaker 1: that's never a great thing. Usually. They've removed its prohibition
- 2:18Speaker 1: against gambling on professional sports. In other words, they've told
- 2:24Speaker 1: their nc double A athletes, boys, girls, bet them up, NFL, NBA,
- 2:32Speaker 1: Major League Baseball, NHL horse racing go ahead. The prohibition
- 2:39Speaker 1: against betting on college sports and sharing information remains in place.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Good luck. The rule change picked up crucial support from
- 2:49Speaker 1: the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. I bet it, did you
- 2:53Speaker 1: know who? Else supported this change. Every gambling draft pick
- 3:01Speaker 1: organization that televises on TV. Have you noticed all of those?
- 3:07Speaker 1: I know you have. The Stanford football program got fifty
- 3:13Speaker 1: million dollars today from a former player. It's the biggest
- 3:18Speaker 1: individual gift in Stanford football history. The donation comes from
- 3:26Speaker 1: former Stanford football player Bradford Freeman, who graduated from the
- 3:31Speaker 1: school in nineteen sixty four, so he would be in
- 3:37Speaker 1: his eighties. He's been a major Stanford donor for decades.
- 3:43Speaker 1: He's not happy that Stanford has won twelve games in
- 3:49Speaker 1: the four previous seasons and is two to three this season.
- 3:56Speaker 1: The Bill Belichick era has been pretty may According to
- 4:01Speaker 1: a new report from WRAL, Parents and players are growing
- 4:06Speaker 1: frustrated by nepotism, preferential treatment of transfers, and overall lack
- 4:12Speaker 1: of culture, calling it an unstructured mess at a complete disaster.
- 4:18Speaker 1: WRAL revealing a few interesting notes. Quote it's all starting
- 4:26Speaker 1: at the top and the boys are being affected, said
- 4:29Speaker 1: one parent. I don't fault the players. I fought the
- 4:32Speaker 1: leadership that created this toxic, toxic environment. There's an individualistic mindset.
- 4:38Speaker 1: The boys are young, they're feeding into it. Steve Belichick,
- 4:43Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator. By the way, they've given up seventy
- 4:47Speaker 1: two points the last two weeks. Is not great communicating.
- 4:51Speaker 1: According to the parents, he has not talked or had
- 4:53Speaker 1: a conversation with most of the guys on defense. They
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't even have his phone number. Not great. Now, playoff
- 5:03Speaker 1: baseball is going on, and former Aggie pitcher Bryce Miller
- 5:09Speaker 1: was nasty for the first four plus innings. He gave
- 5:14Speaker 1: up a run in the fifth and they pulled Bryce
- 5:18Speaker 1: with a three to one Mariners lead over the Tigers. Well,
- 5:23Speaker 1: the reliever came in and promptly gave up two runs.
- 5:28Speaker 1: So three to three sixth inning right now, Oh, there's
- 5:35Speaker 1: another game on. Would you find Brewers and Cubs real quick, Caleb,
- 5:39Speaker 1: it's like one maybe one pick away. Oh, it hasn't
- 5:44Speaker 1: started yet. Okay, never mind, okay, never mind, hasn't started yet.
- 5:49Speaker 1: We've got Mariners, Tigers, and then Brewers, Cubs, then Blue
- 5:53Speaker 1: Jays Yankees.
- 5:55Speaker 4: That was.
- 5:57Speaker 1: I don't want to call it fine. I don't care
- 5:59Speaker 1: what if it's the Yankees or Blue Jays. I don't
- 6:02Speaker 1: have a dog in that fight. By watching Aaron Judge
- 6:05Speaker 1: hit that's pretty fun. And the Phillies and the Dodgers.
- 6:10Speaker 1: The Dodgers can end it tonight. They're up to games
- 6:14Speaker 1: to none. The Blue Jays can end it tonight. They're
- 6:18Speaker 1: up to one. The Brewers can end it tonight. They're
- 6:22Speaker 1: up to oh and the Mariners. If they can take
- 6:26Speaker 1: down the Tigers, they would advance as well. Charlton State
- 6:31Speaker 1: has reinstated men's basketball coach Billy Gillespie, three days after
- 6:37Speaker 1: they announced the former Aggie coach had been placed on
- 6:40Speaker 1: temporary administrative leave following an anonymous complaint. The school's athletic
- 6:47Speaker 1: director said in a statement they thanked A and M
- 6:52Speaker 1: system for working expeditionally in addressing the complaint. The school
- 6:58Speaker 1: announced to leave on Friday, has not revealed any details.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So Billy Clyde is back on the bench for the
- 7:11Speaker 1: fighting Tarlton States of Steifenberg, Texas. And that's what we
- 7:17Speaker 1: used to call it in high school. By the way,
- 7:22Speaker 1: I told you yesterday that the hockey season got started.
- 7:25Speaker 1: It did. I thought the Star season started tonight. It doesn't.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It starts tomorrow night. Glenn Gullotson, the new coach, new
- 7:35Speaker 1: era the Stars at Winnipeg against the Jets. That game
- 7:41Speaker 1: will be on tomorrow evening. So we'll see what happens there,
- 7:45Speaker 1: all right. Scott clin Dinnon is coming up tomorrow. We'll
- 7:48Speaker 1: have a high school report. We'll hear from Cassius how tomorrow.
- 7:55Speaker 1: May hear from Bucky tomorrow. He and a couple of
- 7:59Speaker 1: players met with the Me today Friday. Kirk Bowles, Tony
- 8:03Speaker 1: Catalina joined Me and Young on air Ryan for the
- 8:09Speaker 1: show on Friday Monday. One of the if not the
- 8:15Speaker 1: best crime writers in America, Skip Hollinsworth, will join me.
- 8:22Speaker 1: He has a book out called She Kills. It's a
- 8:25Speaker 1: compilation of stories that he has written for Texas Monthly
- 8:29Speaker 1: over the years about female murderers, or as Ned Flanders
- 8:35Speaker 1: would call them, murder diddly urderers. Okay, how'd you like that,
- 8:41Speaker 1: Caleb the Simpsons reference. Good. Okay, We're going to take
- 8:47Speaker 1: a break. We'll come back. The final lot is brought
- 8:52Speaker 1: to you by Chad Jones Law.
- 8:55Speaker 5: I'm Chad Jones. Each year, our team looks forward to
- 8:57Speaker 5: one of our favorite traditions, our annual Coach for Kids event,
- 9:00Speaker 5: where we get back by providing coach to the local
- 9:02Speaker 5: children who need the most. On Saturday, October eighteenth, ten
- 9:05Speaker 5: to noon, we invite you to our Chad Jones Law
- 9:07Speaker 5: office at twenty eight eleven Earl Rudder Freeway for this
- 9:10Speaker 5: special drive through event. We'll be handing out Coach for Kids,
- 9:13Speaker 5: so come see us and as always, your child must
- 9:16Speaker 5: be present to pick out their coat. It's the twelfth
- 9:18Speaker 5: annual Coach for Kids Event Saturday, October eighteenth at Chad
- 9:21Speaker 5: Jones Law in College Station.
- 9:26Speaker 6: Defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano is on and.
- 9:29Speaker 7: If you recall last year, he was eliminated from the playoffs,
- 9:32Speaker 7: only to be put back in because of a technical
- 9:35Speaker 7: issue with another car. He ended up winning the championship,
- 9:39Speaker 7: and he recalls the emotions of that day.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I'm mar I remember the emotions leaving the track. I
- 9:44Speaker 3: was bummed, right like, well, on one hand, we did
- 9:46Speaker 3: really good here last year, so I was proud of
- 9:48Speaker 3: the effort that we gave. I was bummed that we
- 9:50Speaker 3: were just a little short. But it is what it is,
- 9:52Speaker 3: right Like, That's kind of like how I wentin the race, like, oh,
- 9:54Speaker 3: this is what it is. I can't change it now,
- 9:56Speaker 3: and you just got to keep looking out the windshield.
- 9:58Speaker 8: And we went home, go home.
- 10:00Speaker 3: We just had a fairly normal evening and then I
- 10:03Speaker 3: got a call and I was like, hey, honey, ain't
- 10:05Speaker 3: gonna believe it.
- 10:06Speaker 9: We're back in.
- 10:09Speaker 3: And obviously that the next seven days after that changed everything,
- 10:12Speaker 3: right because we went from out to into winning Vegas
- 10:15Speaker 3: and in the Championship four and winning our third title.
- 10:18Speaker 6: So just a quick turn of events. But that's NASCAR
- 10:22Speaker 6: racing for you, right.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I mean, it's unpredictable. Things can change really really fast,
- 10:26Speaker 3: so you just got to keep rolling with it.
- 10:27Speaker 7: Oh and Joey built a racetrack at his house.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of good perks of being a
- 10:31Speaker 3: race car driver, but one of the coolest things if
- 10:34Speaker 3: you do is long enough you can afford to build
- 10:36Speaker 3: your own racetrack. It's pretty freaking cool. It's like the
- 10:38Speaker 3: coolest thing in the world. It's like, as a child,
- 10:40Speaker 3: that's all you wanted is to be able to walk
- 10:42Speaker 3: out your front door and jump in your go cart
- 10:44Speaker 3: or you or your four wheeler and have some fun.
- 10:47Speaker 3: It's like every little boys dream. So yeah, built a
- 10:51Speaker 3: racetrack and it's awesome. This is the final app.
- 10:56Speaker 10: My perfect day sand salt water in France. But my
- 10:59Speaker 10: moderate to severe phlacksoriasis can take me out of the moment.
- 11:02Speaker 10: Now I'm all in with clearer skin thanks to sky Rizzy.

- 11:23Speaker 11: Don't use if allergic to sky Rizzi serious allergic reactions,

- 12:19Speaker 12: get on road again. Whif I love is making music
- 12:24Speaker 12: with my friend and I can't wait to get.
- 12:27Speaker 13: A road again.
- 12:30Speaker 12: On the road again, going places.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Next Tuesday, I'm going to be joined by author David Fleming.
- 12:41Speaker 1: The book is called A Big Mess in Texas, The Incredible,
- 12:46Speaker 1: untold True story of the nineteen fifty two Dallas Texans,
- 12:52Speaker 1: the most dysfunctional team in the craziest season in NFL history.
- 12:57Speaker 1: I gotta be honest with you. I grew up in Dallas.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I went to see the Texans of the AFL before
- 13:04Speaker 1: they moved to Kansas City to become the Chiefs. I
- 13:08Speaker 1: was one of the few in the Cotton Bowl watching
- 13:10Speaker 1: them play. I did not know there was an NFL
- 13:15Speaker 1: team for one year in Dallas called the Texans in
- 13:20Speaker 1: nineteen fifty two. I don't find many things that I
- 13:24Speaker 1: can say well before I was born, but this is
- 13:27Speaker 1: one of them, and it is. It is a fascinating,
- 13:35Speaker 1: crazy story, I mean crazy. I'll give you two players
- 13:44Speaker 1: on this Texans team in nineteen fifty two who went
- 13:48Speaker 1: on to become NFL Hall of Famers. Gino Marquetti, thought
- 13:55Speaker 1: to be one of the top top defensive ends in
- 14:00Speaker 1: NFL history, and fatso Ark Donovan was on that team.
- 14:07Speaker 1: I know you remember him from the midder light commercials.
- 14:10Speaker 1: He wrote a book called Fatso he made all of
- 14:13Speaker 1: the talk show appearances after he retired. He was like
- 14:17Speaker 1: the Bob Yucker of NFL players. Anyway, we'll visit with
- 14:23Speaker 1: Dave Fleming next Tuesday. Can't wait to talk about this book.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Is some wild, wild, wacky stuff, as Johnny Carson would say. Okay,
- 14:42Speaker 1: but that's not why you're here, at least not for today.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Right now, we're going to hear from Mike Elko. This
- 14:49Speaker 1: is from his Monday news conference that we carry live
- 14:55Speaker 1: on the Zone, which we will again Monday at one
- 14:58Speaker 1: point thirty following Florida game before the Arkansas Gabe. Here's
- 15:02Speaker 1: Mike Elco.
- 15:04Speaker 14: How much do you think your increase involvement with the
- 15:07Speaker 14: defense has and maybe in what ways has it helped
- 15:10Speaker 14: defense so far?
- 15:11Speaker 15: Probably not as much as you guys want to give
- 15:13Speaker 15: it credit for. I think we've got a tremendous defensive staff.
- 15:17Speaker 15: I think Jay does a phenomenal job. I think bringing
- 15:20Speaker 15: Lyle in has just added another experienced person to kind
- 15:24Speaker 15: of help.
- 15:24Speaker 16: With it all.
- 15:25Speaker 15: I think those guys are doing a phenomenal job of
- 15:28Speaker 15: coaching the group and I think everybody wants to try.
- 15:31Speaker 16: To make narratives, but this is what it is.
- 15:34Speaker 15: I think those guys are phenomenal coaches.
- 15:38Speaker 14: I was just going to ask about Nate and how
- 15:41Speaker 14: does one even figure out that he can run the
- 15:43Speaker 14: ball like that?
- 15:44Speaker 16: And what led to you guys.
- 15:46Speaker 14: Making that decision to kind of make him that situational guy.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I think.
- 15:49Speaker 15: You know, obviously, we challenged ourselves a lot this offseason
- 15:53Speaker 15: to kind of do some studies on how people run
- 15:57Speaker 15: the ball, what people do to effectively run the ball
- 15:59Speaker 15: in shortyard situations. You know, I love Marcel, but he's
- 16:03Speaker 15: not a two hundred and fifteen pound, two hundred and
- 16:05Speaker 15: twenty five pound quarterback, and so that kind of takes
- 16:08Speaker 15: the quarterback sneak out of our equation a little bit.
- 16:12Speaker 15: And so maybe just some different creative ways to get
- 16:16Speaker 15: some bigger guys in there that can can kind of
- 16:19Speaker 15: get into the wedge a little bit off of some misdirections.
- 16:21Speaker 16: Maybe where that came from Patch.
- 16:23Speaker 17: All the way in the back down coach, you see
- 16:25Speaker 17: the run game get going really well over the last
- 16:28Speaker 17: few games. How pleased are you with the execution of
- 16:31Speaker 17: your offensive line?
- 16:32Speaker 15: Yeah? I think really good I think, you know, the
- 16:35Speaker 15: challenge that I laid out to them was stop having
- 16:38Speaker 15: those two plays a game that send us backwards, you know,
- 16:41Speaker 15: whether it's a penalty or a critical mistake. That's why
- 16:46Speaker 15: we didn't have an offensive player of the Offensive Lineman
- 16:48Speaker 15: of the Week this week. It's you know, I think
- 16:50Speaker 15: each kid graded out really well. I think each kid
- 16:53Speaker 15: had a really solid game. I think we created movement.
- 16:56Speaker 15: We obviously ran the ball really well. I thought we
- 16:58Speaker 15: protected Marcel really well. But we have high expectations for
- 17:02Speaker 15: that group, and let's get rid of the two plays
- 17:05Speaker 15: that each one of them had that make you pull.
- 17:08Speaker 16: Your hair out.
- 17:08Speaker 15: And I think if we can do that, there's probably
- 17:11Speaker 15: still another level that we can get to with them
- 17:13Speaker 15: and offensively, and we've.
- 17:15Speaker 17: Seen Cash just have so much success on the field
- 17:17Speaker 17: this year. How have you seen him take steps as
- 17:19Speaker 17: a leader on that defensive line.
- 17:22Speaker 15: Yeah, I think he's He's a personality guy, you know,
- 17:25Speaker 15: and so he's got a really electric personality, and you know,
- 17:28Speaker 15: I think he and I think I said this a
- 17:31Speaker 15: little bit earlier too about him, like kids decided to
- 17:35Speaker 15: come back for that last year of school, and some
- 17:37Speaker 15: handle it a lot of different ways. Some guys come
- 17:39Speaker 15: back and they kind of go into coast mode and
- 17:41Speaker 15: the other God, I've been here, done that, I've been
- 17:43Speaker 15: through the off season before, and you know, they maybe
- 17:46Speaker 15: don't take the work ethic or the practice habits at
- 17:49Speaker 15: the level you would like to see. He was the
- 17:51Speaker 15: exact opposite, Like he has done this thing as well
- 17:54Speaker 15: and as good as you could ever hope for a kid.
- 17:56Speaker 15: He's changed his body, he put in a ton of
- 17:58Speaker 15: work with coach Moffatt. Think he's practicing better, he's preparing better,
- 18:03Speaker 15: and I think the players see that. And so as
- 18:06Speaker 15: much as it is some of the conversations that I
- 18:08Speaker 15: think he has from a leadership standpoint, I think it's
- 18:10Speaker 15: also like an ability to point to him and say, hey,
- 18:13Speaker 15: like look at him, Like here's a kid who was
- 18:15Speaker 15: under recruited, started at Bowling Green and kind of look
- 18:18Speaker 15: at what he's worked himself into becoming. And he's just
- 18:23Speaker 15: a testimony to how he's gone about his business. And
- 18:25Speaker 15: I think that, in its own way, creates a leadership
- 18:28Speaker 15: value to the right second round.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Olin.
- 18:34Speaker 18: Micah, as you look back and evaluate Marcel over these
- 18:39Speaker 18: five games, you know, what have you been pressed by
- 18:42Speaker 18: the most, and you know where would you say that
- 18:46Speaker 18: you look for continued growth the most.
- 18:49Speaker 15: Yeah, obviously, I think you see a much more mature
- 18:53Speaker 15: quarterback in his ability to sit in the pocket and
- 18:56Speaker 15: deliver the football. I think it was, you know, he
- 19:00Speaker 15: would tell you himself. I think that last year, at
- 19:02Speaker 15: times he was too quick to run. He wasn't one
- 19:05Speaker 15: hundred percent confidence, you know, progression wise where his eyes
- 19:08Speaker 15: needed to go, and so he knew he was really athletic,
- 19:11Speaker 15: and at times maybe he would rely on that too quickly.
- 19:14Speaker 15: I think when you watch him play now, I'm not
- 19:17Speaker 15: even really sure that you could evaluate him as a
- 19:20Speaker 15: as a runner.
- 19:20Speaker 16: He does not run a ton.
- 19:22Speaker 15: He's doing a lot of his work from the pocket,
- 19:24Speaker 15: which I think is really important for him for us
- 19:27Speaker 15: to grow as an offense, but also for him from
- 19:29Speaker 15: a health standpoint and everything that goes along with that,
- 19:33Speaker 15: you know. And then just obviously the growth is you know,
- 19:37Speaker 15: maybe starting a little bit cleaner. I he still gets
- 19:40Speaker 15: a little bit anxious in the beginning of games, and
- 19:42Speaker 15: that's where you see kind of most of his inaccuracies
- 19:44Speaker 15: and you know, connecting on some of the deep balls
- 19:47Speaker 15: a little bit more consistently.
- 19:49Speaker 19: They in the back again, Ty here, coach, what can
- 19:53Speaker 19: you say about Damon Sandford's improvement heading into the season
- 19:57Speaker 19: along with the past few games, especially in the app
- 20:00Speaker 19: and so of Scooby Williams.
- 20:01Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean, obviously, Damien has stepped up and played
- 20:04Speaker 15: two really, really big games for us as a starter
- 20:08Speaker 15: at the last two weeks. He also played a really
- 20:09Speaker 15: big second half for us on the road at Notre Dame.
- 20:12Speaker 15: And you know, he's a kid that we have a
- 20:14Speaker 15: lot of confidence in. I told the guys this this morning.
- 20:18Speaker 15: It's not lost on me that our two players of
- 20:21Speaker 15: the Week this week weren't necessarily starters game one. And
- 20:26Speaker 15: when you talk about what it really takes to build
- 20:29Speaker 15: a program, to build a program that can go the
- 20:31Speaker 15: distance in this conference week in and week out, you
- 20:35Speaker 15: need a lot of kids to be bought in. You're
- 20:36Speaker 15: gonna need a lot of kids to be able to
- 20:38Speaker 15: come in and have success. And you know, fortunately Damien
- 20:42Speaker 15: was a kid who was ready when his number was called,
- 20:44Speaker 15: and that won't be the last time that story comes up.
- 20:47Speaker 15: And we're going to need to have guys who are
- 20:49Speaker 15: capable of answering the bell.
- 20:51Speaker 19: And my second question is that touring New York is
- 20:53Speaker 19: close to two hundred tackles. What is going to mean
- 20:56Speaker 19: to you to see him reach that plateau when he
- 20:58Speaker 19: reaches it eventually.
- 21:00Speaker 16: Yeah, I didn't even know that. That's good information for me.
- 21:04Speaker 16: So it's a really cool it's a really cool.
- 21:06Speaker 15: Milestone for him. I'm hoping hopeful, let I'm around to
- 21:10Speaker 15: see him get the three hundred. To be honest with you,
- 21:12Speaker 15: I think that's what he's capable of, and he's just
- 21:14Speaker 15: he is. He's getting really comfortable out there in the system.
- 21:17Speaker 15: He's doing a phenomenal job operating and think he's doing
- 21:20Speaker 15: a really really good job with what we're asking.
- 21:23Speaker 17: Coach, will stay in the back chip.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Coach, what have you tried to do with Le'Veon Moss
- 21:30Speaker 1: with the upset stomach, the nervous stomach? What kind of
- 21:34Speaker 1: precautions if you try to take and it's just something
- 21:37Speaker 1: that you will have to continue to live with.
- 21:40Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean, just something we're working through with him.
- 21:43Speaker 15: I don't know that there's a ton of precautions. I
- 21:46Speaker 15: don't know that there's a lot of medicine for it,
- 21:48Speaker 15: and just kind of working with him and something that
- 21:50Speaker 15: he's fighting through.
- 21:52Speaker 1: I was wondering if you could speak about the Florida
- 21:54Speaker 1: offensive line. Defensively, I think most folks who watched and
- 21:59Speaker 1: bought the would be pretty good defensively. As you watch
- 22:03Speaker 1: your offensive wide what stands out from them?
- 22:07Speaker 15: Yeah, I mean they got four or five starters back
- 22:09Speaker 15: from last year. They're a really talented group. They are
- 22:11Speaker 15: a really talented group last year. They've got multiple NFL
- 22:14Speaker 15: draft prospects on the line. I think their left tackle
- 22:18Speaker 15: is probably one of, if not the best tackles in
- 22:20Speaker 15: the conference.
- 22:21Speaker 16: And so they're really really talented group.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Front left Robert Mike.
- 22:27Speaker 20: Five games into the season, this team's approached each game
- 22:30Speaker 20: when you look back to last year, they have a
- 22:32Speaker 20: better eye for detail. Did they build on that last year?
- 22:35Speaker 20: What about this this team's characteristics, prayer for each game?
- 22:40Speaker 16: Yeah, I think we'll see a little bit.
- 22:41Speaker 15: To be honest with you, I mean, you know, at
- 22:43Speaker 15: this point last year, things were going really well too,
- 22:45Speaker 15: and we were in the middle of a seven game
- 22:47Speaker 15: winning streak and we were playing consistent and.
- 22:52Speaker 16: You know, so we'll see, we'll see what this team
- 22:54Speaker 16: can do better as we move forward.
- 22:55Speaker 4: We'll stay front to piggybacking off some of the linebacker
- 22:59Speaker 4: play they been so effective in you know, the blitzaying
- 23:01Speaker 4: and getting sacks. What getting that kind of person from
- 23:04Speaker 4: that group, then what does it do for the defensive
- 23:06Speaker 4: unit and just kind of elevate you guys.
- 23:08Speaker 15: Yeah, I think TFLs are a big part of it.
- 23:10Speaker 15: I think if you look at you know, a lot
- 23:11Speaker 15: of people have talked about our third down success the
- 23:14Speaker 15: last two weeks. I think you know, one of the
- 23:16Speaker 15: hidden stats in there is third down distance. And I think,
- 23:20Speaker 15: you know, our ability to create some negative plays on
- 23:23Speaker 15: first and second down, our ability to create some sacks
- 23:25Speaker 15: or some pressures or some tackles for loss in the
- 23:27Speaker 15: run game puts people behind the sticks and forces them
- 23:32Speaker 15: into tougher third down situations. And I think as much
- 23:36Speaker 15: as we've been good on third down the last two games,
- 23:39Speaker 15: I also think a large part of our successes we've
- 23:42Speaker 15: been very much in advantageous third down situations. And so
- 23:47Speaker 15: you know, when you look at you know, whether it's
- 23:49Speaker 15: Damian Sanford early in the game, you know, he gets
- 23:51Speaker 15: the you know, they get a first down, he gets
- 23:53Speaker 15: a sack, you know, and now all of a sudden
- 23:55Speaker 15: it's second and sixteen, a second drive comes out, he
- 23:58Speaker 15: gets on a blitz and he gets a TfL and
- 24:00Speaker 15: it's second and sixteen, and you know, those things are
- 24:02Speaker 15: hard to overcome as an offense, and so I think
- 24:06Speaker 15: some of that is what you're trying to create on defense.
- 24:09Speaker 15: And when you have kids who have the ability to
- 24:11Speaker 15: do that, obviously it gives you a chance. You know,
- 24:13Speaker 15: a team goes first and send second, six, third and
- 24:16Speaker 15: two your third down percent it is just not going
- 24:18Speaker 15: to nearly be what it's been for us.
- 24:20Speaker 16: We'll stay on the left fourth row.
- 24:22Speaker 21: Matthew, coach, you talked so much about finishing, especially with
- 24:25Speaker 21: last year's team. How have you seen the players grow
- 24:29Speaker 21: in their ability to finish out these games?
- 24:32Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 24:32Speaker 15: I just think they're becoming more and more confident. And
- 24:36Speaker 15: we talk about this a lot. It's an empowering feeling
- 24:38Speaker 15: to know that you have control of the outcome of things.
- 24:43Speaker 15: It's also a very nervous feeling when you're not sure
- 24:47Speaker 15: if you do you know what, I can do my
- 24:48Speaker 15: absolute best and it might not actually work out for me.
- 24:52Speaker 15: Is a really scary place to live. And I think
- 24:54Speaker 15: one of the mindsets that we've really tried to instill
- 24:56Speaker 15: in them, and I think they're starting to understand and
- 24:59Speaker 15: embrace it is. You know you control this, you know
- 25:02Speaker 15: how you play, how you prepare. I don't know what
- 25:08Speaker 15: that was, but I'm just waiting to see if the
- 25:10Speaker 15: ceiling collapses on us. You know how you how you prepare.
- 25:16Speaker 15: You know you ultimately can put in the work. You
- 25:19Speaker 15: ultimately can play the game at a level that will
- 25:22Speaker 15: make you unstoppable. And I think they're starting to believe
- 25:25Speaker 15: that that's real. And the more that belief comes, the
- 25:28Speaker 15: more invested they become, the more work they put in,
- 25:31Speaker 15: the more they're able to finish because they just have
- 25:34Speaker 15: confidence that no matter how it goes, they're going to
- 25:37Speaker 15: find a way at the end to get the job done.
- 25:39Speaker 15: And I think that's what separates really great teams from
- 25:41Speaker 15: average ones.
- 25:43Speaker 21: And then piggybacking off Tony's piggyback, how has an improvement
- 25:48Speaker 21: from the quarterback doo of Rix and Lee allowed the
- 25:50Speaker 21: front seven to get so much pressure.
- 25:52Speaker 15: Sure, yeah, when you have when you have confidence in
- 25:56Speaker 15: that group to be able to play Manda Man. And
- 25:58Speaker 15: let's not lose sight of what we're to do with
- 26:00Speaker 15: Tyrek Chappelle at the Nickel Spot too, because we talked
- 26:03Speaker 15: about how big of a deal that was when he
- 26:05Speaker 15: went down last year, and then even the addition of
- 26:08Speaker 15: Jordan Shaw, who stepped in the other night and played
- 26:11Speaker 15: really well. I think that when you feel as though
- 26:15Speaker 15: you're not worried about that group, you can maybe be
- 26:18Speaker 15: a little bit more aggressive at times, or you can
- 26:20Speaker 15: put those guys in a little bit more isolation at times,
- 26:24Speaker 15: and that always helps what you can dial up and
- 26:26Speaker 15: what you can create.
- 26:27Speaker 16: I just wanted to follow up on the Nickel position.
- 26:29Speaker 6: It seemed like Shaw got quite.
- 26:30Speaker 16: A bit of run in the second half.
- 26:31Speaker 9: Was that just by designer?
- 26:32Speaker 16: Did something happen to Tyreek? A little bit of both?
- 26:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's answer. We'll see the the injury reports do
- 26:41Speaker 1: out tonight, so we'll we'll see about Tyreek Chappelle. You know,
- 26:50Speaker 1: talking about the cornerbacks and the and the dbs, they
- 26:53Speaker 1: did a terrific job on the Auburn duo. Very good receivers,
- 26:59Speaker 1: now they didn't have a quarterback could get to get
- 27:02Speaker 1: them the football. But part of that, you know, it
- 27:06Speaker 1: all goes together, is the pass rush as well. Part
- 27:09Speaker 1: of that the quarterback's not very good. Florida has two
- 27:14Speaker 1: really good receivers Wilson and Brown. Don't know about the quarterback.
- 27:19Speaker 1: He has been spotty. He was good, especially in the
- 27:24Speaker 1: first half against Texas. Last week he hadn't been so good,
- 27:27Speaker 1: mostly also dealing with the leg injury. Don't know how
- 27:34Speaker 1: mobile he will be. Don't know about his ability to
- 27:38Speaker 1: get the football to those receivers. So you know, we'll
- 27:42Speaker 1: see that's six o'clock start on Saturday, and all of
- 27:48Speaker 1: our coverage here on the Zone starts at the three
- 27:54Speaker 1: hour before mark, so three pm. Put that on the
- 27:58Speaker 1: on your timer so you'll know exactly and tune in
- 28:04Speaker 1: and just leave it there. In fact, there's not really
- 28:09Speaker 1: any reason to ever turn off your radio to tell
- 28:12Speaker 1: you the truth, whether you're in your car, you're at home,
- 28:15Speaker 1: you're listening online. And I don't mention this very often,
- 28:19Speaker 1: but if you missed part of the show, and I
- 28:21Speaker 1: can't imagine you would, but if you do, you know,
- 28:24Speaker 1: we put our shows up their entire shows. We've got
- 28:27Speaker 1: our favorite interviews up there. There is a list of
- 28:31Speaker 1: really good interviews on the interview page at chippower dot
- 28:36Speaker 1: com and also at Zone eleven fifty dot com. You
- 28:39Speaker 1: can get there either way, so there's multiple ways to
- 28:44Speaker 1: take in the show. Again, giving you no excuses that
- 28:48Speaker 1: you should ever miss. So you got that going on
- 28:52Speaker 1: for you, which is nice. Cubs Brewers one to one
- 28:57Speaker 1: in the first inning, Tigers is seven to three. Wow.
- 29:06Speaker 1: The Tigers. Ever since they took Bryce Miller out of
- 29:10Speaker 1: the game, it has been all downhill for the Mariners.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I mean all down hill for the Mariners. So is
- 29:24Speaker 1: that that's two games to one, right, yeah, and Detroit's
- 29:29Speaker 1: trying to stay alive and then they have to make
- 29:31Speaker 1: that trip to Seattle for Game five if the Tigers
- 29:35Speaker 1: hold on to this one. So we got that going
- 29:38Speaker 1: on these best of five games. Man, there's there's not
- 29:43Speaker 1: a lot of room for error here. They those series
- 29:47Speaker 1: in quickly. Sevecheck Service Center twenty two hundred Longmire is

- 34:41Speaker 1: Okay, uh better.
- 34:43Speaker 9: Than Chip this year? Is not better than Chip because
- 34:45Speaker 9: he hasn't done the contest for a while. Oh really,
- 34:49Speaker 9: I'm getting count of concerned he gave up, only did
- 34:51Speaker 9: two weeks?
- 34:52Speaker 1: Huh? Okay, well, I think I think you believed in
- 34:58Speaker 1: the first two weeks, be I did. I gave him
- 35:01Speaker 1: a really good chance. And uh, you know, I will
- 35:04Speaker 1: say this as well. I wrote this for the prog
- 35:08Speaker 1: Pole because I had such a horrible start. I was
- 35:11Speaker 1: spending zero time with my picks, and I just didn't
- 35:15Speaker 1: think there was any reason. But then I start looking,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and I look at how everybody's bunched up, and I
- 35:22Speaker 1: look at the people in front of me, and they're
- 35:25Speaker 1: all posers. None of them know anything about football, and
- 35:28Speaker 1: I'm going, man, I'm not that far off at all.
- 35:33Speaker 1: I'm going to start trying again. I might as well
- 35:35Speaker 1: win another PROG title.
- 35:36Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 35:37Speaker 1: And since then, no, no, this is just this week.
- 35:40Speaker 9: Oh well no, since you picked the Jets over the Cowboys.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Yes, I knew the Jets are terrible.
- 35:47Speaker 9: I knew that, But you also knew the Cowboys were
- 35:49Speaker 9: having terrible one offensive one starting offensive lineman play.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Terrible, and and.
- 35:58Speaker 9: The bad Cowboy always backup offensive line was far superior
- 36:03Speaker 9: to Aaron Glynn's regular.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Dese Apparently that's not a very good defensive football team
- 36:08Speaker 1: or a very good offensive football team.
- 36:09Speaker 9: I feel sorry for Aaron Glynn.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Yeah, he didn't in there it much, did he.
- 36:13Speaker 9: Well, they kept talking during the Cowboy game. I know,
- 36:15Speaker 9: because you weren't watching. Now we're doing something else.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I was watching college football on Sunday.
- 36:21Speaker 9: Yeah, okay, that this was comparable to Detroit when Dan
- 36:26Speaker 9: Campbell took over Detroit.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Well, yeah, they weren't very good then either, But.
- 36:31Speaker 9: There's one difference. Okay, even Detroit had a quarterback. Yeah okay, yeah,
- 36:41Speaker 9: Brett Stafford left handed is as good as whoever. The
- 36:46Speaker 9: Jets are running.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Out who was their quarterback this last week Fields justin
- 36:52Speaker 1: vi Ohio State. Yeah, okay, not very good.
- 36:55Speaker 9: The one that the Bears trying to sent to Pittsburgh
- 37:00Speaker 9: and then Pittsburgh didn't even keep three years. He threw
- 37:05Speaker 9: for two hundred after the Cowboys had a thirty point lead.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, that doesn't count, really doesn't count.
- 37:13Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 37:14Speaker 1: And by the way, if you're trailing the Cowboys by
- 37:16Speaker 1: thirty points, you're really not very good. No, and I
- 37:21Speaker 1: will say that I didn't know this since I didn't
- 37:23Speaker 1: watch the game. Did you see old Jarah give the
- 37:28Speaker 1: middle finger to the fans that the cameras didn't catch it?
- 37:32Speaker 1: At least live?
- 37:33Speaker 9: He was he was giving that to his fellow Cowboy fans.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Correct, he said it was inadvertent.
- 37:39Speaker 9: No, it wasn't, because you know what the Cowboy fans
- 37:40Speaker 9: were chanting at him.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I don't want it, can you say?
- 37:44Speaker 9: Yes?
- 37:44Speaker 1: Okay Parsons, Oh, Michael Parson's chance. Uh. And so that's
- 37:49Speaker 1: why he reacted way.
- 37:51Speaker 9: I believe him exactly. He is telling the truth.
- 37:54Speaker 6: No, he's not.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Did they wait a minute? Was his mouth moving when
- 37:57Speaker 1: they interviewed him?
- 37:58Speaker 9: No?
- 37:59Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, okay, but.
- 38:02Speaker 9: No he flipped off the Cowboy fans that were yelling
- 38:04Speaker 9: about Micah Parsons at him.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Now, that's funny, I do like it's the truth. No,
- 38:11Speaker 1: it's funny.
- 38:11Speaker 9: I mean that's all Jerry gets now.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Okay, by the way, you may kind of kind of
- 38:16Speaker 1: like the uh GM with the Dallas Mavericks.
- 38:19Speaker 9: Yes, by the way, yeah, have you watched the Landman trailer? Yes? Okay, yes,
- 38:25Speaker 9: I have?
- 38:26Speaker 1: Next month?
- 38:28Speaker 9: Sixteenth?
- 38:29Speaker 1: Is that what it is?
- 38:30Speaker 9: Sixteenth?
- 38:30Speaker 1: Well, I haven't seen any Paramount plus specials coming.
- 38:35Speaker 9: Wait it'll be three weeks after. That's fine, I'll wait,
- 38:38Speaker 9: you'll you wait, Yeah, I don't.
- 38:40Speaker 1: I don't have to see it the first first night.
- 38:43Speaker 1: You know, I watched a couple of nights at Chad Powers.
- 38:46Speaker 1: I normally wouldn't have done something like that.
- 38:48Speaker 9: How's it?
- 38:50Speaker 1: It's pretty crude. It's not great, you know, Uh, a
- 38:54Speaker 1: little disappointing.
- 38:55Speaker 9: Can you tell it's him?
- 38:57Speaker 7: Uh?
- 38:57Speaker 9: This is make up making. Make you make up pretty good.
- 39:00Speaker 1: But if you'll look on Live today, Eli Manning did
- 39:05Speaker 1: a take off today. He's waiting at Glynn Palace trailer
- 39:09Speaker 1: dressed up as Chad Powers. Remember that's where it started
- 39:12Speaker 1: with Eli being Chad Powers and I don't remember what
- 39:15Speaker 1: football team he went to. Was it a college team?
- 39:17Speaker 1: Was his stated?
- 39:18Speaker 16: Old?
- 39:19Speaker 9: Penn State?
- 39:19Speaker 1: Oh is at Penn State? Okay, well he needed It's
- 39:23Speaker 1: only like two and a half minutes. That's funny.
- 39:25Speaker 9: He Penn State? Take him right now?
- 39:27Speaker 1: Yes, they would. They would love to have Chad Powers
- 39:30Speaker 1: right right now.
- 39:31Speaker 9: They'd love to have Eli Manning.
- 39:33Speaker 1: All right, we're going to take a break. We're going
- 39:34Speaker 1: to come back. The Texans Report is brought to you
- 39:37Speaker 1: by Redfield Meats and Dent Magic.
- 39:46Speaker 6: Whether tailgating for two or two hundred shop Redfield Meets

- 40:19Speaker 25: The Houston Texans entered the bye week in a much
- 40:21Speaker 25: better place after winning their last two games and plenty
- 40:23Speaker 25: of reason for optimism, which is a welcome sight after
- 40:26Speaker 25: beginning of the season zero to three with a couple
- 40:29Speaker 25: of last second losses. The Texans schedule, however, does them
- 40:32Speaker 25: no favors, as the first four games following the bye
- 40:35Speaker 25: week are all against potential playoff contending teams. General manager
- 40:39Speaker 25: Nick Cassario discussed the team's plan heading into the bye week.
- 40:43Speaker 26: You know, season kind of divided up into quarters, so
- 40:45Speaker 26: it kind of threw called the first quarter of the season.
- 40:47Speaker 26: So the next quarter on the horizon, and then there'll
- 40:49Speaker 26: be a number of games there and really like kind
- 40:51Speaker 26: of a mini break there once we get to Buffalo,
- 40:54Speaker 26: so kind of keep moving along. I think the big
- 40:56Speaker 26: thing from our perspective, you know, continue to improve, making
- 40:59Speaker 26: progress as a team, and that's where a focus should be.
- 41:01Speaker 26: So a lot of football in front of us. You know,
- 41:04Speaker 26: played decent in the last couple weeks. You'll try to
- 41:06Speaker 26: build on some of the things that we've done here
- 41:07Speaker 26: the last few weeks.
- 41:08Speaker 25: Texans will be on the road in Seattle against the Seahawks,
- 41:11Speaker 25: in week sevens edition of Monday Night Football.

- 43:09Speaker 1: Just saying you go on the website right now, I
- 43:11Speaker 1: think there's a few seats left at opustickets dot org
- 43:14Speaker 1: and go see Missus Doubtfire now. Coming up in a
- 43:17Speaker 1: couple of weeks is the Sowetto Gospel Choir returning to

- 43:27Speaker 1: choir bringing the whole new concept part of a sixty
- 43:32Speaker 1: city North American tour. And then I saw this and
- 43:37Speaker 1: I go, this isn't possible. But you know, three weeks
- 43:40Speaker 1: is going to be November, MutS gone nuts. November first
- 43:44Speaker 1: for the kids, two performances eleven am and four pm.
- 43:48Speaker 1: This is for the kids, and then after that I'm

- 44:05Speaker 13: Your home for Aggie football is the Sony eleven fifty
- 44:08Speaker 13: am and maybe three point seven ff. A long time
- 44:19Speaker 13: forgotten our dreams that just fell by the way. I'm
- 44:27Speaker 13: a good live, he promised, is not what she's living today.
- 44:34Speaker 1: Willie complains they're doing this too long. Score to what cups?
- 44:41Speaker 1: It was about ten feet away from being six to
- 44:44Speaker 1: one cups. She just this is the still the bottom
- 44:48Speaker 1: of the first time. Yes, good gosho be a long
- 44:51Speaker 1: game at eight to three Tigers.
- 44:53Speaker 9: Now eighty three, middle of the eighth.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Inn, Okay, it looks like game five in Seattle. Oh yeah,
- 45:00Speaker 1: they go back to Seattle.
- 45:02Speaker 9: No, yeah, they go back to one won the division.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Seattle won the division.
- 45:08Speaker 9: Oh I didn't know that.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Yeah, they go back to Seattle. And and by the way,
- 45:15Speaker 1: don't ever question me on something like that again.
- 45:18Speaker 9: Who's starting for Detroit?
- 45:19Speaker 1: I have no idea?
- 45:20Speaker 9: Yes you do, No, I don't. Oh, yes you do, school,
- 45:24Speaker 9: Yes you did.
- 45:25Speaker 1: They've already beat Schoobol, Yes they half do.
- 45:28Speaker 9: You know how hard it is to beat the school really.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Really really time. Yeah. I was going to say justin Berlinder,
- 45:34Speaker 1: but that probably wouldn't have been right with it.
- 45:36Speaker 13: Uh.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I was commenting that, man, they take these pitchers out
- 45:42Speaker 1: so quickly, uh, in these games, and look, I know
- 45:46Speaker 1: what's at stake. I get it's a bullpen game now
- 45:49Speaker 1: and everybody's got guys throwing a hundred. But you know,
- 45:53Speaker 1: they took Bryce Miller out and he was dealing right,
- 45:57Speaker 1: and he allowed a run in the fifth inning, and
- 45:59Speaker 1: it's with threeta nothing. He allows a run in the
- 46:01Speaker 1: fifth inning, and they take him out and it's been
- 46:05Speaker 1: downhill ever since. And you know, I get you know
- 46:10Speaker 1: those things are it's it's easy after the fact. But still.
- 46:15Speaker 9: Spear two thirds of an innings, three hits, two earned runs.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's who they brought in.
- 46:19Speaker 9: Rocardo one inning, four hits, three earned runs.
- 46:22Speaker 1: They've been terrible.
- 46:23Speaker 9: Vargas one inning, one hit, one run.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Farcus, that's Farcas opposite George. No, it's opposite George Seinfeld. Farcas.
- 46:33Speaker 9: No, it's Bumpus.
- 46:34Speaker 1: No no, no, no, no, no no no, this is this
- 46:38Speaker 1: is this is from Newman. He was the Newman guy Farcus. Okay,
- 46:45Speaker 1: So Keith Hernandez come on man relief pitching. It's like
- 46:56Speaker 1: would would would Nolan Ryan have?
- 46:59Speaker 9: Sir Nolan Ryan would still or meet the manager coming down.
- 47:07Speaker 9: First off, he would shake up when the pitching coach
- 47:09Speaker 9: would be act like like he's gonna come. Yeah, Nolan
- 47:12Speaker 9: would just send him away because Nolan then knows that
- 47:16Speaker 9: he can't do anything if the manager comes out right, Okay,
- 47:19Speaker 9: first off, I'm Nolan Ran. I don't need to talk
- 47:22Speaker 9: to a pitching coach.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Well, what do you think Bob Gibson would have done
- 47:26Speaker 1: in those days.
- 47:26Speaker 9: Throw the ball, as manager, Yes, he it hit.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Him with a high, hard one.
- 47:33Speaker 9: No, he would have in the dugout before he walked
- 47:35Speaker 9: out in a in a one zero game in the
- 47:40Speaker 9: bottom of the fourteenth inning, he would have gone, do
- 47:45Speaker 9: not come to the mound and the leader and the
- 47:48Speaker 9: manager would have said, yes, sir, mister.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Gibson, exactly. It's a different day, man, it is a
- 47:55Speaker 1: different day. Ferguson Jenkinson done, Ferguson Jencotts. Same thing, I mean,
- 48:00Speaker 1: same thing. I you know, I was thinking about him
- 48:03Speaker 1: the other day. You know, I've had the chance to
- 48:07Speaker 1: see a few Hall of Fame players over the years,
- 48:09Speaker 1: as have you. And and first of all, they're different,
- 48:14Speaker 1: and they should be different if they're going to the
- 48:16Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. You know, we've had this conversation they
- 48:18Speaker 1: should be different, and and and they are different, right,
- 48:22Speaker 1: And it was it was so fun to see him,
- 48:25Speaker 1: and honestly, he he was still close to the prime
- 48:32Speaker 1: of his career. I realized he'd pitched a lot of
- 48:34Speaker 1: innings with the Cobs before he came to Texas. The
- 48:38Speaker 1: man he was still so good back then, really good.
- 48:44Speaker 9: So the first Astros game I ever went to My
- 48:49Speaker 9: dad hated Pete Rose, so we had seats on the
- 48:53Speaker 9: on the third base side so he could hackle Pete,
- 48:56Speaker 9: heckle Pete. And Tom Seaver was the starter that day,
- 49:00Speaker 9: and he came out another picture.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Who doesn't get enough credit for out Grady was.
- 49:05Speaker 9: He comes out and he's popping it, and I mean
- 49:07Speaker 9: the bullpen catcher is feeling it, and Jr. Richard comes
- 49:11Speaker 9: out and from the other side of the Astrodome he
- 49:15Speaker 9: looks and see how hard Tom Seaver's warming up. And
- 49:18Speaker 9: guess what you think you can hear? You listen to
- 49:22Speaker 9: this and it sounded like a gun going off every
- 49:25Speaker 9: time the ball hit the catcher's clock. But that's what
- 49:29Speaker 9: I'm saying. That day, the first time I ever see
- 49:33Speaker 9: a game Nastros one in fourteen. They hit two home
- 49:36Speaker 9: runs in nineteen eighty in the Astrodome, which was hard
- 49:43Speaker 9: to get two home runs. So I said, the scoreboard
- 49:46Speaker 9: go off twice on the same day, but it went
- 49:49Speaker 9: like fourteen innings. But I got to see Tom sever
- 49:53Speaker 9: versus Jr. Richard. I mean, I'm watching a bullpen game
- 49:58Speaker 9: by Tampa Verse. This is some other guy. Yeah, and
- 50:03Speaker 9: what are you getting out of that?
- 50:04Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 50:06Speaker 9: When you're throwing one hundred miles an how you're throwing
- 50:08Speaker 9: harder than Tom Seaver and J. R. Richard pitched.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Yes, but you're only but you're only SI witched. Yeah,
- 50:17Speaker 1: and they're only throwing thirty pitches. Yes, they're in for
- 50:20Speaker 1: an inning and if if, if they do okay in
- 50:23Speaker 1: the in that inning, they may they may come in
- 50:26Speaker 1: for for two innings. And after two innings it's like,
- 50:29Speaker 1: let's let's go to the bullpen again. And I don't
- 50:32Speaker 1: I don't like that. I think we miss out on greatness. Uh,
- 50:39Speaker 1: you mentioned Scooball is going to be throwing Game five,
- 50:42Speaker 1: and you know there's greatness there. They will leave him
- 50:47Speaker 1: out there they did the other night because he can,
- 50:51Speaker 1: by the way, throw one hundred or more pitches, which
- 50:54Speaker 1: apparently no manager anymore once any pitcher throwing one hundred pitches.
- 50:59Speaker 1: That's because the magic bullet. For some reason, back when
- 51:04Speaker 1: Nolan Ryan was throwing two hundred and forty five pitches
- 51:07Speaker 1: whatever it was.
- 51:07Speaker 9: Two thirty five. It was the second of his three
- 51:10Speaker 9: to nineteen strikeout performances in nineteen seventy four three hundred
- 51:15Speaker 9: and sixty seven strikeouts sixteen lesson he had in the
- 51:19Speaker 9: seventy three season. Nolan finished with a no decision and
- 51:25Speaker 9: didn't even go The most innings for a pitcher that day,
- 51:29Speaker 9: Louis Tiant went fourteen in the thirds, remember that, before
- 51:33Speaker 9: serning Denny Door's walk off double on the bottom of
- 51:35Speaker 9: the fifteenth. So fourteen innings, Nolan Ryan two hundred and
- 51:41Speaker 9: thirty five pitches. Okay, yeah, fifty eight batters, ten of
- 51:49Speaker 9: them walked because that's before Nolan could could land the curveball. Yeah,
- 51:53Speaker 9: on the days he had it, he was the greatest
- 51:57Speaker 9: pitcher anyone had ever seen.
- 51:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he was unheittable. So do you remember the old
- 52:02Speaker 1: remember the ABC Games of the Week at night with
- 52:05Speaker 1: Howard Cosell, Monday Night based Monday Night Baseball, and they
- 52:10Speaker 1: were I remember a game from Anaheim, and of course
- 52:13Speaker 1: Nolan was pitching. That's why they did that game. They
- 52:16Speaker 1: were doing the age because they weren't Yeah, they weren't
- 52:19Speaker 1: any good either, but it was it was the Shadows
- 52:24Speaker 1: in California. They're two hours earlier, right, and they were
- 52:27Speaker 1: already they're building it up as well they should, because
- 52:30Speaker 1: every time he pitched back then, there was a possibility
- 52:33Speaker 1: he's going to throw a no hitter every time out. Okay,
- 52:37Speaker 1: and and you know there's Howard bloviating because he knew
- 52:40Speaker 1: nothing about baseball, but he knew how to bloviate. And
- 52:44Speaker 1: I just I just remember those shadows and you talk
- 52:47Speaker 1: about the glove popping and that sound you know with
- 52:50Speaker 1: that ball hitting the mid when when Nolan was pitching,
- 52:53Speaker 1: and that had to be early seventies, Yeah, probably right,
- 53:01Speaker 1: because he won with the Mets in sixty nine. Yes,
- 53:06Speaker 1: and one was traded to the Angels, so early early
- 53:10Speaker 1: seventies probably was that time. I still remember that. I
- 53:15Speaker 1: still remember that. Okay, real quick. NC double A did
- 53:21Speaker 1: stuff today that's usually I don't know that.
- 53:24Speaker 9: Oh you don't know what did the NC double A
- 53:26Speaker 9: do today?
- 53:27Speaker 1: Okay, well hopefully it's.
- 53:28Speaker 9: Well, okay, I cheat because maybe it's transfer.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Portal stuff, transfer portal stuff. Okay, okay, they did the
- 53:34Speaker 1: transfer portal stuff. They collapsed that, which is good, nothing
- 53:38Speaker 1: wrong with that. And then they approved gambling for all
- 53:44Speaker 1: n C DOUBLEA athletes. Wait what NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NHL,
- 53:51Speaker 1: skating cars horses. They can bet on anything except for college.
- 53:58Speaker 1: They bet on anything legal.
- 54:00Speaker 9: Now, he just said, hey, Pete Rose can go in
- 54:03Speaker 9: the Hall of Fame. We might as well change our rule.
- 54:05Speaker 1: Okay, Now what I said was turn on TV Saturday
- 54:09Speaker 1: morning all the way through Saturday night and count how
- 54:13Speaker 1: many of these gambling sites are advertising on NC double
- 54:18Speaker 1: A College football. Yeah right, I mean that's a no brainer.
- 54:23Speaker 1: And the NC Double A doesn't even own college football,
- 54:26Speaker 1: but they're getting blowback. But they do a college basketball,
- 54:31Speaker 1: so same thing. When the season starts, just count how
- 54:33Speaker 1: many gambling sites are advertising. And they're going, ah, this
- 54:38Speaker 1: is no this is no problem, no problem at all.
- 54:41Speaker 1: All right, we're going to take a break. We'll come back.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Scott and I are probably going to talk a little
- 54:45Speaker 1: college football. We'll see how that goes. David Gardner's Jewelers
