- 0:52Speaker 2: Then what do you reckon is going to happen?
- 0:53Speaker 3: We'll call it country Huddle. What was the question?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Milk price?
- 0:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, look, a first global dairy trade auction of
- 1:00Speaker 3: the month obviously tonight my guy at jard and Mike mcintie.
- 1:04Speaker 3: It's a bit of a worry with everything that's going on.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Maybe the market's just listening to what you're saying. A
- 1:08Speaker 3: factoring in a Trump victory at midday our time tomorrow.
- 1:12Speaker 3: But she's I don't know about this. It's getting really
- 1:14Speaker 3: messy with fuel and fertilizer. Don't forget the fertilizer, but
- 1:18Speaker 3: the futures market looking for a couple of percent down
- 1:22Speaker 3: on whole milk powder, maybe twice that for skim milk powder.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Significant falls in the fats that's butter and cheese. So
- 1:31Speaker 3: Mike McIntyre picking a whole milk powder down two percent
- 1:36Speaker 3: five percent overall, that's perhaps the index. We'll wait and
- 1:40Speaker 3: see on this one, but look, it's not good news.
- 1:42Speaker 3: We're all sort of in limbo till we find out
- 1:44Speaker 3: what happens or doesn't happen tomorrow.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, totally midday now on Some bright news is that
- 1:51Speaker 2: the average heap and beef farm profit is forecast to
- 1:53Speaker 2: double this year, which is significant.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Yeah, look, this is a great news story. Doubling, highest
- 1:59Speaker 3: in fifty years. Double obviously twenty four to twenty five.
- 2:02Speaker 3: This is for twenty five, twenty six, and these numbers
- 2:04Speaker 3: two hundred and eighty seven thousand profit four tax, And
- 2:09Speaker 3: I know that sounds a lot of money, but remember
- 2:11Speaker 3: you've got to pay your tax, your drawings any capital
- 2:13Speaker 3: expenditure out of that, But it's still good. But look
- 2:16Speaker 3: at some of the numbers that the sheep and beef
- 2:18Speaker 3: farmers are injecting into our economy. They're producing eight point
- 2:22Speaker 3: five billion on farm this year, spending sixteen million dollars
- 2:27Speaker 3: every day in goods and services, largely in their local communities.
- 2:32Speaker 3: The forecast farm gate prices for lamb for this season
- 2:36Speaker 3: ten dollars twenty eight. That's two hundred bucks for a
- 2:38Speaker 3: good lamb. For a bit of mutton, an old fat
- 2:41Speaker 3: yue five dollars fifty five at the kilogram of carcassweight,
- 2:44Speaker 3: that's one hundred and sixty to one hundred and eighty
- 2:46Speaker 3: dollars for an old mutton. In the eighties they were
- 2:49Speaker 3: worth nothing and cattle seven dollars sixty. And that's dragged
- 2:54Speaker 3: down by the likes your bona cows as opposed to
- 2:56Speaker 3: your prime stare which is at nine bucks. So look,
- 2:59Speaker 3: all in all, looking really good. Obviously risks around the
- 3:02Speaker 3: Middle East, the US trade policy. Who knows when there's
- 3:05Speaker 3: another tariff coming and it's not on you usual at
- 3:08Speaker 3: this time of the year, autumn processing pressure. We've had
- 3:11Speaker 3: a grassy summer. The farmers have hung on to the
- 3:13Speaker 3: stock to add more weight to them. There's a bit
- 3:15Speaker 3: of a squeeze on at the works at the moment.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Good stuff, Jamie. Always good to talk to you. Thank
- 3:19Speaker 2: you for saving me for myself. Jamie mckaie, Host of
