- 2:46Speaker 1: and letting you know everything that's that's happening and coming
- 2:50Speaker 1: up this weekend. And yes, we're watching the headlines of
- 2:54Speaker 1: what's happening in our nation. We're watching what's happening right
- 2:58Speaker 1: here in Vermont. A lot of stuff that is happening,
- 3:04Speaker 1: and I could sit and talk about it all day,
- 3:10Speaker 1: but to me, anyway, it's more important to talk about
- 3:14Speaker 1: stuff that really really matters, like this guy, DJ, Chuck Leiford,
- 3:24Speaker 1: and I have to say that, buddy, because that's usually
- 3:30Speaker 1: we have the word DJ in front of the words,
- 3:33Speaker 1: Chuck Leeford, because you've been doing that for how long now, man?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Twenty three years?
- 3:39Speaker 1: Twenty three years of spinning tunes? Are you still doing this, Chuck?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Yeah? I just got back into it because what I
- 3:49Speaker 2: went through the last year. I just did the Hardwick
- 3:53Speaker 2: Post seven legion for their corn, corn, beef and cabbage hooply.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I guess you'd call it, chuck.
- 4:02Speaker 1: How old are you, boy?
- 4:03Speaker 2: Seventy three?
- 4:04Speaker 1: What the hell are you doing doing this at seventy
- 4:07Speaker 1: three years old? Who's carrying? Who's lugging your equipment? Buddy?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Let's see my wife loaded it up the last time.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 4:14Speaker 2: I used to have a nephew that you used to
- 4:16Speaker 2: follow me around, but he's too old now, so pretty
- 4:19Speaker 2: much doing it myself except for lately.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Jesus, you know your music really well?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah, pretty well?
- 4:26Speaker 1: What's your favorite genre?
- 4:30Speaker 2: Uh, sixties, sixties, seventies. I would say, yeah, I listened
- 4:36Speaker 2: to them a lot. I do get into the eighties
- 4:38Speaker 2: once in a while, but I was kind of partial
- 4:40Speaker 2: to the older stuff, stuff I grew up on.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah, right, of course, I think the I love the seventies, man.
- 4:46Speaker 1: That's that's that's my proof. Right there.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We had.
- 4:49Speaker 1: We had the best music back then. Yeah, of course
- 4:51Speaker 1: we did, Yes, we did. It wasn't as compressed as
- 4:55Speaker 1: it is now. It was. It's just real talent. No,
- 4:59Speaker 1: so let's send it to Earth, Wind and Fire the
- 5:02Speaker 1: other day, and I mean just really listening, and I'm like, damn,
- 5:07Speaker 1: that's the real stuff.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We always like the tunes, but we really didn't listen
- 5:11Speaker 2: to what they were singing. Right now, it's more so
- 5:15Speaker 2: I listened to.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Word for word.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, No, I don't remember them saying that.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Yeah, right exactly. So are you still so you're still
- 5:24Speaker 1: doing this? You're still spinning the tunes.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I got three weddings coming up later in the year.
- 5:29Speaker 2: But three weddings, Chuck.
- 5:30Speaker 1: What the hell are you doing, buddy? How are you
- 5:32Speaker 1: swinging that?
- 5:33Speaker 2: Man? I'm retired. I've been retired since twenty fourteen, well supposedly.
- 5:41Speaker 1: And you've you've been You've been DJing for how many
- 5:43Speaker 1: years again?
- 5:44Speaker 2: Twenty three?
- 5:45Speaker 1: Oh my god. I bet you have some pretty good stories.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I have some good stories. I've played all over the
- 5:51Speaker 2: place in the Vermont.
- 5:52Speaker 1: In Vermont, you know, I know you have a lot
- 5:56Speaker 1: of stories about a lot of things, and a lot
- 5:58Speaker 1: of experiences that you've been through in life. You are
- 6:04Speaker 1: the beneficiary the recipient of this year's Bikers for Beth
- 6:11Speaker 1: motorcycle poker run and fundraiser, which has been going on
- 6:16Speaker 1: for a long time eighteen years. Eight I was going
- 6:18Speaker 1: to say seventeen, but this is the last year. Yep,
- 6:21Speaker 1: number eighteen. For folks that are not familiar with Bikers
- 6:29Speaker 1: for Beth, it started out as kind of a one
- 6:33Speaker 1: and done thing. And Shelley, yeah, yeah, do you remember that?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yep?
- 6:43Speaker 1: I do remember. What can you what can you tell
- 6:45Speaker 1: us about that? I remember it too.
- 6:47Speaker 2: But those those two were amazing put setting that up.
- 6:51Speaker 2: They went gun home and setting that all up. But
- 6:54Speaker 2: my my thing is I know the family. I've known
- 6:57Speaker 2: the family for years, that Noisel family, well Beth Hemingway,
- 7:00Speaker 2: but Jesus, our maiden name was no Weasel. We actually
- 7:04Speaker 2: knew them when they lived up here on South Main
- 7:07Speaker 2: Street for years. So the older sisters, one of the
- 7:11Speaker 2: oldest sisters is coming home from New North Carolina.
- 7:16Speaker 1: And Bob and Bob, they're coming up for this.
- 7:20Speaker 2: They're coming up for this because they say, because it's me.
- 7:23Speaker 1: But yeah, I don't know. How are you doing, man?
- 7:30Speaker 1: How are you, I am, how are you feeling?
- 7:32Speaker 2: Each each day? I gain, I really do gain. I
- 7:35Speaker 2: just started walking again, of course, not with the snow
- 7:37Speaker 2: on the ground, but and I went a little bit
- 7:41Speaker 2: the first time and it wasn't bad. I went a
- 7:43Speaker 2: little further the second time, but coming back it was
- 7:45Speaker 2: a little rough. But I'm I'm actually doing well. I'm
- 7:50Speaker 2: doing well.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Listen. I just had a new shoulder put in. Yes,
- 7:55Speaker 1: you did, we could, we could scars.
- 8:01Speaker 2: God, I had a good one.
- 8:02Speaker 1: I think you got me beat brother. Yeah, I mean
- 8:06Speaker 1: I really do.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Chest cavity to my belly below my belly.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Button, Oh my god.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that was from a That wasn't from cancer, that
- 8:15Speaker 2: was from a a order. Yeah he what a innerism. Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And that was beginning of December.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, December third. I had that operation. I wouldn't wish
- 8:25Speaker 2: it on nobody.
- 8:27Speaker 1: I'm sure you wouldn't. What was the what what did
- 8:30Speaker 1: you have for symptoms on that?
- 8:33Speaker 2: It was a well. First of all, at the end
- 8:36Speaker 2: of twenty twenty four, I was losing weight and they
- 8:41Speaker 2: said it was due to well. I went and had
- 8:43Speaker 2: a doctor's appointment. He says, you have blood sugar and
- 8:48Speaker 2: it is really high. And I'm gonna put you in
- 8:50Speaker 2: the HOSMA. No you're not. So then I told him
- 8:53Speaker 2: I couldn't cough up stuff, you know as I went,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and he said, well, we're gonna get you a chest
- 8:57Speaker 2: x ray. And then they gave me a pet skin
- 8:59Speaker 2: and they found not just one, they found three things.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I said, this story in my life, I can't do
- 9:06Speaker 2: just one. I got to do all of it.
- 9:10Speaker 1: So tell me more about how you were, how you
- 9:14Speaker 1: were feeling, though, Like it's not that easy. I was
- 9:18Speaker 1: for a guy in his seventies that was really weak, Yeah.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Really weak, and I didn't know it. I had a
- 9:25Speaker 2: nurse who used to take care of my mother when
- 9:27Speaker 2: she was in Woodridge, and she told me to get
- 9:29Speaker 2: my to the doctors to find out what's going on
- 9:32Speaker 2: because I lost a lot of weight. I lost thirty.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Pounds, okay, And you weren't trying to.
- 9:36Speaker 2: No, No, it wasn't easy. I wasn't trying, That's exactly it.
- 9:39Speaker 2: I wasn't trying to do either, okay. And I dropped
- 9:43Speaker 2: it quickly, actually, like four or five months it was.
- 9:47Speaker 2: And each each month I would drop a little more
- 9:49Speaker 2: a little more a little more. So when I got
- 9:51Speaker 2: down to one hundred and sixty eight. I said, okay,
- 9:53Speaker 2: I'm going to go see my doctor.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Was Maria getting on you about this?
- 9:58Speaker 2: She says, I'm stubborn. So he really didn't, did she? Yes,
- 10:04Speaker 2: she did somewhat, but not not like she can.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Now I can't do nothing because she wants to do
- 10:11Speaker 2: it all.
- 10:12Speaker 1: But I mean so, I mean, thank god you went
- 10:17Speaker 1: in there and you got the the A order taken
- 10:20Speaker 1: care of. But in the process of doing that, we
- 10:24Speaker 1: discovered that you got something in your lung.
- 10:26Speaker 2: We had to take care of the cancer first. We
- 10:28Speaker 2: had to do the chemo and radiation first before we
- 10:31Speaker 2: could do the A. So they were worried about me
- 10:33Speaker 2: hanging on, you know with that yeah, for six months,
- 10:36Speaker 2: and I did it.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So you had some some nodules in your right in
- 10:41Speaker 1: one of your lungs, left lung. Yeah, okay, so they're
- 10:46Speaker 1: hitting that with chemo and all that radiation and radiation.
- 10:50Speaker 1: It's shrinking.
- 10:50Speaker 2: It shrunk. Okay, there's a sky tissue now, but it's
- 10:54Speaker 2: still I don't see that doctor until mid April. Tell
- 10:58Speaker 2: if it's shrunk more. Okay, But I'm getting around really
- 11:03Speaker 2: good now.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's coming up. In a couple of weeks.
- 11:07Speaker 2: Yeah, April. I think it's a second week of April.
- 11:12Speaker 1: All right, smoker past.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Fifty two years and I've almost coming up on six
- 11:20Speaker 2: years that I've quit.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Six years? Do you still crave a cigarette?
- 11:26Speaker 2: Occasionally? Occasionally you get that smell and yeah? All right, Yeah,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you're never going to get rid of it. I don't think.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But fifty two years of smoking.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I figured it out. Fifty two years I started young.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Oh god man, So what what made you you quit cigarettes?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Did you do the patch and all that stuff?
- 11:46Speaker 2: I did a patch for about a half hour. Well
- 11:49Speaker 2: then I did it cold turkey.
- 11:51Speaker 1: You ripped that sucker off and right off, right off,
- 11:53Speaker 1: immediately almost Why I was determined that I was going
- 11:56Speaker 1: to quit this time? Why did you take the patch off?
- 11:59Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe because I said I'm gonna beat
- 12:02Speaker 2: this without anything. Yeah, I think that's the reason I
- 12:05Speaker 2: did it.
- 12:05Speaker 1: It's because you're a tough hold guy.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm old. I don't know about tough.
- 12:11Speaker 1: So you went cold turkey?
- 12:12Speaker 2: Yeah pretty much?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Yes, But what led you up to the point where
- 12:16Speaker 1: you're like, you know what, I may have to stop smoking.
- 12:20Speaker 2: One morning I got up and I walked up the
- 12:23Speaker 2: stairs in our old house that we sold, and I
- 12:26Speaker 2: I had trouble breathing. So I'm sitting there smoking a cigarette,
- 12:29Speaker 2: rinking a coffee, and I go, this is probably the
- 12:32Speaker 2: reason I'm having trouble breathing.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I put it out, drank my coffee and put the
- 12:37Speaker 2: you know, like, yeah, I had the patches because I
- 12:40Speaker 2: was thinking about quitting. Yeah, And I put it on
- 12:42Speaker 2: and about a half hour later, I tore it off.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And my wife, I didn't think she would ever quit.
- 12:49Speaker 1: She was smoking too.
- 12:50Speaker 2: She was a big smoker too, and she quit. It
- 12:53Speaker 2: took her a little longer because she had to do
- 12:54Speaker 2: the patches, but it took her a little longer, but
- 12:56Speaker 2: I gave her. I was really proud of her because
- 12:58Speaker 2: I didn't think she would do it. She did it.
- 13:02Speaker 1: You almost kind of especially you guys have been married
- 13:05Speaker 1: for a couple of years.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You've been married forty nine and together fifty one.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, if if one of you is going to quit,
- 13:14Speaker 1: the other one's kind of kind of well, it.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Was kind of it was kind of strange. I had quit, well,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I had to stop at that time, and she's she
- 13:22Speaker 2: wanted to quit, so she two days three days before Christmas.
- 13:26Speaker 2: She goes, you realize I'm not smoking. I says, yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 2: but I wasn't going to say anything. Yeah right, I'm
- 13:31Speaker 2: glad you did and she hasn't smoked.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Sense, no kidding. Yeah, how did you? How did you
- 13:40Speaker 1: find out that you were chosen as the recipient the
- 13:47Speaker 1: beneficiar area of bikers for Beth.
- 13:49Speaker 2: I had two or three people called me and said
- 13:52Speaker 2: they were going to nominate me, and how I felt
- 13:54Speaker 2: about it. But I'm the type of guy. I'm a
- 13:57Speaker 2: doer for people. I don't get used to them doing
- 14:01Speaker 2: for me. And uh, I guess according to when I
- 14:06Speaker 2: had the meeting with with Dana and Stacy, I was
- 14:11Speaker 2: a popularity vote. I had a lot of people calling,
- 14:17Speaker 2: and I'm glad it didn't get down to a popularity
- 14:19Speaker 2: thing because that wouldn't have been fair.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Well you're you're well known. Oh yes I am, and
- 14:24Speaker 1: you're well loved.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I think so you.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Can be well known and not well loft.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Now a lot of people. I have a lot of support,
- 14:32Speaker 2: A lot of support. Yeah, God, it's been great. It
- 14:37Speaker 2: makes me teary eyed every time I think about it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Well, you're familiar with what this is. I mean you right.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I played I DJD three years.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly over at Custos.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah, over at Gustos on a Sunday after Sunday morning.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Actually I got there early.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember. Have you ever ridden in the middle.
- 14:59Speaker 2: I thought about I do have a Harley. I thought
- 15:02Speaker 2: about doing it, but I don't think I by then
- 15:05Speaker 2: I'm going to be able to with my incision on me.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Yeah that I don't think I can. I can't go
- 15:10Speaker 2: eighty five. I think it's eighty five miles or roughly
- 15:12Speaker 2: eighty five. Yeah, yeah, and I don't think I can
- 15:14Speaker 2: do it. I'm thinking about you know, Randy Tucker. Of
- 15:17Speaker 2: course I'm going to ride beside him for a little
- 15:20Speaker 2: bit and maybe pull off because I don't think I
- 15:23Speaker 2: can do it.
- 15:24Speaker 1: You're gonna ride the bike though.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I'm gonna well, I haven't ridden it in a year
- 15:28Speaker 2: and a half. I put it back up because I
- 15:30Speaker 2: was not feeling well. Yeah, and I keep looking at
- 15:34Speaker 2: it now. I need a battery, because I knew that
- 15:37Speaker 2: for a year and a half.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Setting The problem is with guys like us who love
- 15:42Speaker 1: motorcycles that we just look at it. I mean my
- 15:46Speaker 1: motorcycles in the in the barn and I'm selling it,
- 15:50Speaker 1: but looking at it is I.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Was going to sell mine, and everybody says, you're not
- 15:57Speaker 2: going to be happy if you sell that, and I
- 15:59Speaker 2: got thinking message, You're probably You're probably right. I'd rather
- 16:02Speaker 2: look at it. Yeah, I mean I've owned it for ever.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Well, if you start looking at it, then you start
- 16:08Speaker 1: talking to it. I do that every time, and then
- 16:11Speaker 1: you give it a name, and then it's you're in trouble,
- 16:15Speaker 1: you know. Yeah.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I didn't ride much. I didn't write at all last year.
- 16:19Speaker 2: The year before I elen wrote twice.
- 16:22Speaker 1: So the name Lifford, yeah, is a big name.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yep, a lot of us Chelsea roots yep, Chelsea h George,
- 16:37Speaker 2: it was my grandfather and George, Grandpa George, and the
- 16:40Speaker 2: salv is my uncle was my uncle.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Yeah. The Lifeford's hand cream Yeah, been around for Oh boy, god,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I mean it's everywhere.
- 16:54Speaker 2: And plus plus George played in Noisy Parker. Yes, yes, yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 2: I can't think of who's it Ted Fred Tuttle, Fred Tuttle, Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Nosey Parker. What a what a great film
- 17:10Speaker 1: that was.
- 17:10Speaker 2: We have it somewhere. My my sister has that movie somewhere.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 2: But it came from my place.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Maybe tear up man.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a it was a good movie.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a big it's a big family.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Well there's let's see. I have seven brothers and four sisters,
- 17:29Speaker 2: and we all begin with C. My mother and father
- 17:31Speaker 2: begin with C. All fourteen of us are C L
- 17:36Speaker 2: L or C D L. Yeah, and I'm the oldest boy.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I got an older sister. We call our mother, we
- 17:45Speaker 2: call our mother goose.
- 17:48Speaker 1: And where where? Where it's the is the family? Still?
- 17:51Speaker 1: Where are they? Mostly?
- 17:53Speaker 2: I have one that mostly right around here. Still, I
- 17:56Speaker 2: have one in Williston, one in Florida. The most of
- 18:00Speaker 2: us are right Montpelier East, Montpelier Berry. We're still around
- 18:04Speaker 2: at Waterberry. Most of us are still together around except
- 18:08Speaker 2: I had one that goes to he comes back in
- 18:11Speaker 2: the summer. He's he's in Florida area. No, don't know where.
- 18:15Speaker 1: But you got a big family. You're in a in
- 18:20Speaker 1: a community that knows and loves and respects you hugely.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Look at what they just did for you over it
- 18:27Speaker 1: over at Tasty Bites. Yep.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Wow, I couldn't believe what they made in two hours.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Unread just tips. Was it five hundred bucks or something
- 18:37Speaker 1: just under five Yeah, unbelievable.
- 18:42Speaker 2: It's amazing. How many people were there that you know
- 18:44Speaker 2: that I really, I know real well. And they all
- 18:47Speaker 2: came down two hours. Yeah, just under five hundred bucks.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Amazing. There's there's supplemental fundraising, that's that's going on there. Yes,
- 18:59Speaker 1: there's there's going to be of course, a huge bottle drive.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah that always Aileen O'Connor.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Is go get wicked, go getter.
- 19:09Speaker 2: She's a go getter.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Yeah. How did you feel during the event over at
- 19:18Speaker 1: Tasty Bites? What was what was in your heart?
- 19:20Speaker 2: I was amazed? I was It was just I just
- 19:25Speaker 2: was amazed about it. Everybody that showed up, even people
- 19:28Speaker 2: I don't really get along with. We say that, but
- 19:31Speaker 2: we do get along. Yeah, it's funny some of the guys,
- 19:34Speaker 2: some of us really get into arguing a little bit
- 19:38Speaker 2: about what just anything in general, just the sake.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Of arguing a little bit of politics.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Maybe that could be a little bit of it.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I try to stay out of it, but I don't know.
- 19:51Speaker 2: I just don't like the way the world's going.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, well no, I neither do.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I I try to be, you know, a practical joker,
- 19:58Speaker 2: but Jesus people take that too serious. I'm just joking. Yeah,
- 20:03Speaker 2: I don't say anything bad.
- 20:04Speaker 1: But yeah, that's well, that's in your nature. Man. But
- 20:07Speaker 1: it must have felt amazing sitting there, tasty bit.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I stayed there the whole time I sat. They put
- 20:12Speaker 2: me in the corner.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I saw that.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Hey, I say, you can't put baby in the corner, right,
- 20:17Speaker 2: They put me in the corner. But I was hoping
- 20:20Speaker 2: that Joe would show up, but he wasn't. He just
- 20:23Speaker 2: started his chemo or whatever.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Joe Edson is the other the other beneficiary for
- 20:29Speaker 1: Bikers for Beth this year. And Joe and I've been
- 20:32Speaker 1: chatting for a long time, but especially uh lately, and
- 20:38Speaker 1: he and I. Joe is going to be joining me
- 20:42Speaker 1: on the air as soon as he possibly can.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I think once he gets over the initial shock of
- 20:48Speaker 2: this what he's going through, I think he'll.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Be all right. Of his treatments.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Yeah, he just started too. Yeah, I'm still going through
- 20:55Speaker 2: uh what they call it, chemo infusions.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I have to do that for a year, one year.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm into my eighth month right now. Then we go,
- 21:05Speaker 2: then we go see where that is?
- 21:06Speaker 1: How often is that? Once a month? Once a month?
- 21:10Speaker 1: Tell me about I'm going to ask you about Maria
- 21:14Speaker 1: and your your fifty one years with with her, But
- 21:18Speaker 1: tell me where were you born.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Well, the funny part about it was I was born
- 21:23Speaker 2: actually in barried, but lived in Chelsea my first seven years,
- 21:26Speaker 2: and she was. We were neighbors. We did not get along.
- 21:30Speaker 2: We were you know, she was at the bottom of
- 21:32Speaker 2: the auditorium. I was on the other side of the auditorium.
- 21:34Speaker 2: We lived over there, and we really didn't. I mean,
- 21:39Speaker 2: her brother and I were friends, and I don't know
- 21:43Speaker 2: how we Then we just all of a sudden we
- 21:45Speaker 2: liked each other, well sort of, I said. We got
- 21:49Speaker 2: along because we hate each other. I always say that
- 21:54Speaker 2: we hate each other. That's why we get along so good.
- 21:57Speaker 2: She won't let me do nothing.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So then what you just you said, I got to
- 22:05Speaker 1: marry this lady.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Well, her mother had cancer, my father had cancer, and
- 22:12Speaker 2: they were on their way out, so we tried to
- 22:16Speaker 2: We decided we're gonna get married before they Yeah, her
- 22:20Speaker 2: mother went first.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I believed. Then my father how to propose. I don't remember.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think she proposed, really, I think so. I think
- 22:30Speaker 2: she did because I'd already been married once. Yeah, and
- 22:33Speaker 2: it's funny because I got married in Chelsea and the
- 22:37Speaker 2: priest over there goes, are you sure you're going to
- 22:39Speaker 2: show up at the way tomorrow? Because I was, again
- 22:43Speaker 2: practical joker. Yeah, he was really worried about me not
- 22:46Speaker 2: showing up.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Did she throw a ring at you?
- 22:51Speaker 2: I don't remember. I don't remember how it came about.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure she asked me, but I don't know how.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Thin.
- 23:00Speaker 2: It was. Just there was something I wanted to do
- 23:04Speaker 2: before I proposed to her. I came, oh, I wanted
- 23:07Speaker 2: to buy her ring first.
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And back then, you know, we jobs weren't I mean,
- 23:12Speaker 2: we weren't making a lot of money. Sure, so I
- 23:15Speaker 2: got the money saved up and I bought a ring
- 23:18Speaker 2: and she just, well, I didn't buy it. She wanted
- 23:20Speaker 2: to update her grandmother's ring and her mother's ring, so
- 23:24Speaker 2: she put it all into one. Oh so so she
- 23:29Speaker 2: still got those rings.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I love that.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and she's going to hand them off to our
- 23:33Speaker 2: two granddaughters.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Where'd you go to primary school?
- 23:38Speaker 2: I started out in Tunbridge. I went to Granditeville, Yeah,
- 23:44Speaker 2: to brook Street, to Matheson to Spaulding, graded to Spaulding.
- 23:51Speaker 2: We moved around a lot when I was really young.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Graduated from Spaulding seventy one in seventy one.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Factually, our class reunion's coming up.
- 24:00Speaker 1: What did you do after high school?
- 24:03Speaker 2: I worked at Capital City X on him, I'll tell
- 24:06Speaker 2: you back then it was so for nine years.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Then I eventually I worked at Bombed here for twenty
- 24:13Speaker 2: three years.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Oh my god.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Wow.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I've had a few jobs, but not many then what
- 24:21Speaker 2: then I decided no. I went to help out at
- 24:23Speaker 2: Hanneford's in the meat room for three and a half years,
- 24:26Speaker 2: and I said, no, this is enough. I turned sixty two,
- 24:28Speaker 2: said this is enough.
- 24:30Speaker 1: You have Stacy Holden by the way. Yes, he's saying
- 24:36Speaker 1: good morning to you. He's listening right now.
- 24:38Speaker 2: He was. He was the exalted ruler at the ELPs
- 24:40Speaker 2: when I was the manager over there. Great guy, him
- 24:44Speaker 2: and his wife.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Big boy.
- 24:46Speaker 2: He's a big boy, Yes he is.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I don't think I could take him.
- 24:49Speaker 2: I don't think I could either.
- 24:51Speaker 1: He he high tailed it out of here and said,
- 24:54Speaker 1: I'm headed for a warm breeze. And he's been down
- 24:59Speaker 1: in the Carolinas, No, Florida, Florida, Fort Fort Pearce.
- 25:03Speaker 2: They were here, They were here week ago.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yeah, for just a few days, I know. Yeah, and
- 25:09Speaker 1: I didn't see him. And he comes up for the
- 25:11Speaker 1: for the ice skating.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Right, that's what he was here for.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, yeah, good dude. Yeah, you ever thought about
- 25:18Speaker 1: pulling a Stacey holding and saying I'm getting the hell
- 25:21Speaker 1: out of the cold.
- 25:22Speaker 2: When I sold my house four years ago, five years ago,
- 25:27Speaker 2: we had made plans to go to North Carolina and
- 25:29Speaker 2: live because that's where the Weasels are though. Yeah, rhyming
- 25:32Speaker 2: ways and whatever, and we of course desiretion. The older sister.
- 25:37Speaker 2: She she's got a log cabin in quite a few
- 25:40Speaker 2: areas that she lives. So we went down there. I
- 25:43Speaker 2: lasted thirty days. Wow, No, I just didn't. It wasn't me.
- 25:48Speaker 2: And we just had a great granddaughter born. I always
- 25:50Speaker 2: saw her once. So it was around Thanksgiving and I said,
- 25:54Speaker 2: this is not me. I'm a family. We I always
- 25:57Speaker 2: do the family Thanksgiving. And I went out and paid
- 26:02Speaker 2: cash for that new truck and drove home. Well, it's
- 26:06Speaker 2: funny because we were down at the beach. I was
- 26:08Speaker 2: were on the beach, the Carolina Beaches. Yeah, she owned
- 26:11Speaker 2: property there and I'm sitting there after I did the meal,
- 26:15Speaker 2: but quarter one my wife comes into my room and
- 26:18Speaker 2: I'm sitting on the end of it. She said, what's
- 26:19Speaker 2: the matter? So I want to go home? She thought,
- 26:22Speaker 2: I want to go back inland. I said, no, no, no, no,
- 26:25Speaker 2: I want to go home.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Woh.
- 26:27Speaker 2: So the next day I bought that truck and drove home.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Do you think Maria was saying at the time to herself,
- 26:34Speaker 1: damn it.
- 26:37Speaker 2: She we mean him not coming home? Yeah, she wanted,
- 26:39Speaker 2: she was, she wanted to come home to Oh, she
- 26:42Speaker 2: just didn't want to say nothing. We were there at
- 26:45Speaker 2: thirty exactly thirty days. I mean, nothing wrong with the
- 26:50Speaker 2: area or nothing, but yeah, just we weren't ready, as
- 26:53Speaker 2: she says, we weren't ready to divorce our children.
- 26:56Speaker 1: Wow. Wow, well said you ever thought about being a
- 27:00Speaker 1: bird though? I mean, you kind of admit this past
- 27:02Speaker 1: winter was it was a cold. I didn't do nothing.
- 27:05Speaker 1: I couldn't.
- 27:05Speaker 2: I didn't really get out of the house at all.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:09Speaker 2: In fact, I finally pushed the shovel the other day
- 27:12Speaker 2: for the first time. Usually I'll take a scoop and
- 27:14Speaker 2: do my old It's a long driveway, Jesus suck, and
- 27:17Speaker 2: I usually do it. But and she was out there.

- 27:31Speaker 2: get after you. Oh, yes he did. I was out
- 27:34Speaker 2: mowing my lawn last year and I didn't have a
- 27:36Speaker 2: hat on. I was not supposed to be in the
- 27:38Speaker 2: sun without a hat on. He came right down across
- 27:41Speaker 2: the driveway he says, you're supposed to be doing that,
- 27:43Speaker 2: and go, well, not really.
- 27:45Speaker 1: That's a good neighbor.

- 28:10Speaker 2: I got all the way to first a vice for
