- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome into another episode of Inside the Charge. I'm Maddi Glabin.
- 0:13Speaker 1: We're so excited to have the guy who can do
- 0:15Speaker 1: it all on defense with us. Mister cam Lewis, you
- 0:19Speaker 1: have had a thrilling start to the season. Unfortunately, your
- 0:23Speaker 1: teammate and nickel cornerback Tarren Johnson goes down on the
- 0:26Speaker 1: first drive of the first game. You have to come
- 0:29Speaker 1: in and you did not look back. Cam, I want
- 0:31Speaker 1: to start there. Why were you ready for the opportunity?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we just have such a good room, dB room
- 0:39Speaker 2: as a whole. You know, we meet safeties, meet together,
- 0:43Speaker 2: Nichols and in the corner, so we all on the
- 0:44Speaker 2: same page. We all know the game plan, and I
- 0:47Speaker 2: don't know, just it was just my time, you know,
- 0:50Speaker 2: to step in and just play my game. Really, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 2: meeting with Arn being with Terran these well six years
- 0:57Speaker 2: I've been here, He's been teaching me a lot, so
- 1:00Speaker 2: I don't feel like it would just be a fall
- 1:02Speaker 2: off from me to him, you know. Kind of the
- 1:04Speaker 2: same type of player in my eyes, with both aggressive,
- 1:07Speaker 2: not the biggest you know guys, and we gotta play
- 1:11Speaker 2: the A gaps, the big gaps, you know, that run
- 1:13Speaker 2: fifth thing but just trying to go out there and
- 1:15Speaker 2: just play my game. And that's mainly what I did.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Not the biggest, but aggressive. And it's easy to see
- 1:20Speaker 1: that on a film with the way that you can
- 1:22Speaker 1: stop the run. What is the mindset that you have
- 1:25Speaker 1: to put yourself in to be able to stop a
- 1:28Speaker 1: tight end, stop a big running back, stop a wide
- 1:31Speaker 1: receiver when these guys may have several inches and pounds
- 1:35Speaker 1: on you.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah, honestly, just trying not to get block crazy.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, you do, you do.
- 1:41Speaker 2: It kind of started when I was like six, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 2: because we used to hit a lot. I started playing
- 1:45Speaker 2: when I was six. I used to cry every single
- 1:48Speaker 2: day I practice, and my dad was like, the you're
- 1:50Speaker 2: gonna be out there, You're gonna quit.
- 1:52Speaker 3: So I wanted to play.
- 1:53Speaker 2: So that aggression started ray early for me, and then
- 1:58Speaker 2: I'm just a different person when.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I cross white lines.
- 2:00Speaker 2: You got to turn that autr ego, getting that mode,
- 2:04Speaker 2: have that confidence in the world that you can you
- 2:06Speaker 2: can go out there and play with the best of them,
- 2:07Speaker 2: And that's what I try to do.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Like I'm small, but I'm big too. You know.
- 2:11Speaker 1: You had to flip that switch pretty quickly in the
- 2:13Speaker 1: first game. Because you were telling us after the game
- 2:17Speaker 1: that hey, I was the safety who was going to
- 2:19Speaker 1: go in in our dime package when we were going
- 2:21Speaker 1: to rotate into it. But then you had to be
- 2:24Speaker 1: thrust into the nickel cornerback spot. It's not like you
- 2:27Speaker 1: were backing up a safety and you got put into
- 2:30Speaker 1: the safety spot. No, you were supposed to go in
- 2:32Speaker 1: at safety and you win in at nickel cornerback. How
- 2:35Speaker 1: quickly does your brain have to process the things to know, Okay,
- 2:40Speaker 1: this is a new job, I'm doing new things. I
- 2:43Speaker 1: have calls I have to make, I have to listen
- 2:45Speaker 1: to this guy. How quick of a process is that
- 2:48Speaker 1: for you?
- 2:49Speaker 2: Probably takes right last, say, like two minutes once I
- 2:53Speaker 2: really get told like I'm going there and nickel, because
- 2:55Speaker 2: only I do it.
- 2:55Speaker 3: I practice all the time. Now some periods I.
- 2:58Speaker 2: May be nickel heavy, and then maybe the last two
- 3:01Speaker 2: plays I gotta go back there in safety. So it
- 3:04Speaker 2: just gives me that I guess I'm just getting used
- 3:08Speaker 2: to being able to switch, to flip the switch, you know, like, oh,
- 3:11Speaker 2: I'm safety here, so I got to make all these
- 3:12Speaker 2: safety costs, and then when I go back to nickel,
- 3:15Speaker 2: I gotta make any Nichols costs. But it just give
- 3:17Speaker 2: me a brighter understanding of the whole defense and what
- 3:20Speaker 2: everybody's supposed to do.
- 3:22Speaker 1: If that makes sense, Yeah, definitely. It also makes you
- 3:24Speaker 1: somebody who I mean, I don't know how this team
- 3:26Speaker 1: can live without you at this point because of what
- 3:29Speaker 1: you can do. We're going to get into that in
- 3:31Speaker 1: a little bit. But we got to talk about the
- 3:34Speaker 1: game against Miami because you guys had three interceptions ub products.
- 3:40Speaker 1: You're also a ub product. JaMarcus Ingram had two of those.
- 3:43Speaker 1: One he returned for a pick six. And there was
- 3:45Speaker 1: a picture that was taken in the locker room after
- 3:48Speaker 1: the game. I need to get your thoughts on what
- 3:51Speaker 1: is going through your mind in this picture. I will
- 3:54Speaker 1: show it on the screen here, but to describe it,
- 3:58Speaker 1: Cam is celebrating, JaMarcus has the football with his hands
- 4:02Speaker 1: in the air. Hrasuel is screaming, Kaye's pointing to the sky,
- 4:08Speaker 1: DeMar is celebrating. You guys look like it's a group
- 4:11Speaker 1: that is elated about the victory. What's going through your
- 4:15Speaker 1: mind here?
- 4:15Speaker 2: So this is the thing we after, you know, a win,
- 4:19Speaker 2: and after we get like takeaways, we always celebrate the
- 4:21Speaker 2: takeaway so this picture right here. You know he got
- 4:25Speaker 2: the bar earlier because he got the first pick, and
- 4:27Speaker 2: then we went to cbuse he got another pick. But
- 4:30Speaker 2: this was the end it all to pick six. You know,
- 4:33Speaker 2: everybody just cheering, but you just want to be excited
- 4:35Speaker 2: for your teammates. You know that's making plays and it's helping.
- 4:38Speaker 3: The team win.
- 4:39Speaker 2: So we're always trying to have a good time, you know,
- 4:41Speaker 2: make some fun out of it.
- 4:43Speaker 1: You know, you have worked so hard for your opportunity,
- 4:46Speaker 1: but so has JaMarcus Ingram and for him to also
- 4:50Speaker 1: be ready that day to get called. You're now moving
- 4:53Speaker 1: to nickel and then JaMarcus is the guy who's going
- 4:56Speaker 1: to rotate in not at safety but at slot corner
- 4:59Speaker 1: when you guys go in dime. And he made a
- 5:01Speaker 1: big play in week one to save the game against
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Cardinals. In week two he shows up again with
- 5:07Speaker 1: two interceptions. How cool has it been to watch from
- 5:12Speaker 1: your vantage point, not just in games, but in practices
- 5:15Speaker 1: watch an undrafted guy like you come onto the scene
- 5:19Speaker 1: and prove to everybody I can do this.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Yeah it's awesome. Yeah, cat in there like the same story.
- 5:25Speaker 2: You know, he bounced around multiple colleges and then he
- 5:29Speaker 2: ended up being a tryout guy, making the team undrafted
- 5:33Speaker 2: and just being able to stick around. So I understand
- 5:35Speaker 2: the grind, just not knowing if you're good enough, but
- 5:39Speaker 2: he always shows that, you know, he's good enough. He
- 5:41Speaker 2: makes place all the time. Every time you get the opportunity,
- 5:43Speaker 2: he makes play. So I really wasn't surprise. I'm just
- 5:47Speaker 2: more so just you know, know, happy, Like I told him, like,
- 5:52Speaker 2: I wish it was me, but I'm not selfish, so
- 5:55Speaker 2: I'm glad it was you.
- 5:56Speaker 3: If anybody else, I'm glad it was you.
- 5:57Speaker 2: So yeah, I just been you know, excited to acided
- 6:00Speaker 2: for him and just hoping he can, you know, be
- 6:03Speaker 2: consistent and keep doing it. You know, every time he's
- 6:05Speaker 2: out there just makes some place. You know, it's is
- 6:07Speaker 2: this blessing to be out there, So why not have
- 6:09Speaker 2: a little bit of fun while you're doing it.
- 6:11Speaker 1: You spoke about JaMarcus having, you know, that imposter syndrome
- 6:15Speaker 1: of I don't know if I'm good enough to make it.
- 6:17Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm good enough to be here.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You've been quoted saying, you know, at some point in
- 6:22Speaker 1: my college career, the NFL was not on the radar
- 6:25Speaker 1: for me. Now that you are in the NFL, how
- 6:29Speaker 1: do you reflect on back on the time that it
- 6:32Speaker 1: took you to realize, Hey, this is this is a dream.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Actually this is going to happen, and now I'm starting.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean, it's tough because sometimes I still feel like
- 6:43Speaker 2: it's a dream that like I'm waking up and I'm
- 6:46Speaker 2: being in my bed, you know, a pull of sweat,
- 6:49Speaker 2: just like sweating, but I don't know, just trying to
- 6:51Speaker 2: be in the moment. When I drive into work every day,
- 6:55Speaker 2: take a second just to look at the stadium, the
- 6:57Speaker 2: new stadium being built, just everything around me.
- 6:59Speaker 3: Just trying to just taking all in just like.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You, hear you, like you you made it here, and
- 7:05Speaker 2: trying to continue to grow each and at each and
- 7:07Speaker 2: every day.
- 7:08Speaker 3: But like I said, it was it was a grind.
- 7:10Speaker 3: It was a grind.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Like I think it was my junior year where I
- 7:13Speaker 2: was like, Okay, you may have a shot, so let's
- 7:16Speaker 2: just go all in.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And I went all in.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And six years later, here still here, trying to leave
- 7:21Speaker 2: my market, trying to have to see more.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You decided to play college football down the street at
- 7:26Speaker 1: University at Buffalo. You are from Detroit, how did you
- 7:31Speaker 1: be come into the picture for you?
- 7:34Speaker 2: So I got a couple offers around the mac West Virginia, Toledo.
- 7:39Speaker 2: And then this was when when Jeff Quinn was still
- 7:42Speaker 2: like you be reached out and I bought at a
- 7:46Speaker 2: camp or whatever, and then he told me to come up
- 7:49Speaker 2: for a visit. Had a camp here, did really well,
- 7:53Speaker 2: and he was like, yeah, you have an offer, and
- 7:55Speaker 2: I went to I look around the campus and to
- 8:00Speaker 2: commit right on the spot, and my dad was like no, no, no, wait, wait,
- 8:03Speaker 2: wait wait. So we went back to the hotel room
- 8:05Speaker 2: and talked about it, and yeah, I kind of like
- 8:08Speaker 2: fellow love with it. I came here summertime, sunshining, got
- 8:12Speaker 2: the lakes, and they treated me like family. It wasn't
- 8:15Speaker 2: too far away from home as well, so that was
- 8:18Speaker 2: a big deal for me. It's like my brother went
- 8:21Speaker 2: to school just as a regular student at West Virginia,
- 8:24Speaker 2: so I didn't want to go there and be up
- 8:26Speaker 2: under him like that's Cam's little brother.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Like I wanted to make a name for myself.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So I felt like Buffalo was far enough but still
- 8:34Speaker 2: close enough to home, war my parents could come up
- 8:36Speaker 2: if they wanted to.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And then being in Buffalo. Playing here in college, you
- 8:40Speaker 1: start to get a feel for the NFL team down
- 8:43Speaker 1: the street. As you went on in your collegiate career,
- 8:46Speaker 1: your junior and senior year, and the NFL dream started
- 8:50Speaker 1: to become more clear in the back of your head.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Were you ever thinking it might be nice to stay
- 8:56Speaker 1: here for a few more years?
- 8:59Speaker 2: Honestly, no, no, I run to get out of Buffalo.
- 9:02Speaker 2: To be completely honest with you, is just because it
- 9:05Speaker 2: has so many similarities to back home. You still get
- 9:07Speaker 2: the snow, still get the coldness and the wind. I mean,
- 9:12Speaker 2: summers are not there long, but they're still pretty good.
- 9:15Speaker 2: But I don't know, it's awesome now. The teammates called
- 9:19Speaker 2: me a local guy because I've been here.
- 9:20Speaker 1: So it's crazy.
- 9:22Speaker 3: You've been here for so long and it's ten years.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Ten years? Yeah, oh my god.
- 9:26Speaker 2: How to go places without GPS now it's it's insane.
- 9:30Speaker 3: But no, I love it.
- 9:31Speaker 2: It's like the second hold of me now. So they
- 9:34Speaker 2: welcome me with open arms, and I appreciate it.
- 9:36Speaker 1: So since you've been here for so long, to the
- 9:38Speaker 1: young'n's coming in, what do you what do you tell
- 9:40Speaker 1: them about this place that is not home to you?
- 9:44Speaker 2: I joke around with them like they're you're gonna find
- 9:46Speaker 2: your wife here, You're gonna have a couple of kids
- 9:47Speaker 2: here because there's not much to do. It's a family
- 9:50Speaker 2: in football. That's really what it is, what it comes
- 9:53Speaker 2: down to. But no, you're just gonna you're gonna have
- 9:55Speaker 2: fun you come here. Uh, it's a family atmosphere, like
- 10:00Speaker 2: always stayed at like everybody in school with each other.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Everybody wanted to hang out with each other after after work,
- 10:05Speaker 2: even though we see each other every single day, freaking
- 10:09Speaker 2: and the freaking seven seven pm. So uh, it's just
- 10:12Speaker 2: it's that type of culture that we have here that
- 10:15Speaker 2: I hear. That's not a lot of different places that
- 10:19Speaker 2: that's always awesome though.
- 10:20Speaker 1: She said, this is a place you find your wife
- 10:22Speaker 1: and you have your kids. Did you find your wife
- 10:24Speaker 1: in Buffalo?
- 10:24Speaker 2: I didn't find my wife in Buffalo. Were we dated
- 10:27Speaker 2: in high school?
- 10:29Speaker 3: So? I guess high school? Sweetheart high Yeah, it was.
- 10:33Speaker 2: It was my senior year, her junior year. She made
- 10:38Speaker 2: a little advance on me, called me cute and jim
- 10:43Speaker 2: and the rest is history, you know, two kids later
- 10:46Speaker 2: and three years marriage later.
- 10:48Speaker 1: So where did she go to college? Did you guys
- 10:50Speaker 1: have to do long distance.
- 10:51Speaker 2: We did have, Yeah, we had we had to do
- 10:53Speaker 2: a long dist So she went back to school back home,
- 10:55Speaker 2: hery for college. So she went there, and we're just
- 10:59Speaker 2: bouncing back and forth or long distance. And she used
- 11:02Speaker 2: to come up here and hang out with me. So
- 11:05Speaker 2: as soon as I signed here, she was like, yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 2: I'm coming, I'm coming up here. So we've been up
- 11:09Speaker 2: She's been up here ever since i've been here.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Okay, if you look back on Instagram, you proposed to
- 11:14Speaker 1: her on the field. Why is that High Mark Stadium
- 11:20Speaker 1: just as important to her as it is to you?
- 11:23Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I guess because I just proposed there. But
- 11:26Speaker 2: it is for sure. Yeah, you know, it's a lot
- 11:30Speaker 2: of ups and downs with it. You know, NFL career,
- 11:33Speaker 2: you don't know if you're going to be in one place.
- 11:35Speaker 2: You get traded, get released. But it was such a
- 11:39Speaker 2: big milestone for me, you know, to make it, so
- 11:42Speaker 2: I guess I kind of wanted to share that with
- 11:43Speaker 2: her in a place where you know, I made my
- 11:46Speaker 2: first NFL team or you know what I'm saying.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So it's special.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it is special. It got a special place in
- 11:52Speaker 3: my heart. But I honestly didn't know what I wanted
- 11:55Speaker 3: to do when I proposed, and I was like, I
- 11:57Speaker 3: can do it at the stadium.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was sweating if you ask her what
- 12:02Speaker 2: I said when I propose, didn't have a long speech,
- 12:05Speaker 2: got on one knee, shaken, you know, I love you?
- 12:09Speaker 3: Maybe you know what.
- 12:11Speaker 1: That's what my husband did too, and I was like,
- 12:13Speaker 1: you need to get back down.
- 12:16Speaker 3: That's all I got it. Yes or no? What is
- 12:20Speaker 3: it going to be? No?
- 12:23Speaker 2: It was a good experience, but hopefully I only have
- 12:27Speaker 2: to do that once.
- 12:27Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Yeah, well, you guys have two kids. Now fast forward
- 12:31Speaker 1: from marriage to now you have two boys, and they're
- 12:36Speaker 1: at the age where it seems like they're starting to
- 12:40Speaker 1: understand that, hey, dad plays in the NFL. Dad has
- 12:43Speaker 1: a really cool job. How old are your two sons
- 12:46Speaker 1: and have they started to take a liking of football.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Caden is three, is the oldest one, and Christian is two. Yeah,
- 12:55Speaker 2: they understand it, I guess kind of fully. Now it's
- 12:58Speaker 2: coming full all the way for them.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Now. Caden puts on.
- 13:03Speaker 2: My helmets at home and run around with football and
- 13:06Speaker 2: then I say ready to say hike and he gets
- 13:08Speaker 2: to kicking the football all over the place. And then
- 13:11Speaker 2: just to be able to bring them here, you know,
- 13:12Speaker 2: being the indoor, being around, you know, all this stuff
- 13:16Speaker 2: that I wasn't able to you know, growing up. I
- 13:19Speaker 2: think they're gonna look back on it and it's like,
- 13:21Speaker 2: that's pretty cool. But every time we pass the stadium,
- 13:24Speaker 2: every time they see the Bills logo and they say dada,
- 13:26Speaker 2: dada dada.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So I think that's always awesome.
- 13:28Speaker 1: That's so cool. You spoke about the family culture, the
- 13:31Speaker 1: family atmosphere that is within the walls, that one Bill's drive,
- 13:35Speaker 1: and you have to shout out our head coach Sean
- 13:38Speaker 1: McDermott for that.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But one other thing that he has played an instrumental
- 13:42Speaker 1: role in going back to the defense is in seasons
- 13:46Speaker 1: past the last few years, this defense has been riddled
- 13:49Speaker 1: with injuries with big name players. And here we are
- 13:53Speaker 1: to start the season and it's the same thing. But
- 13:55Speaker 1: it seems to not matter who comes in. Doesn't matter
- 13:59Speaker 1: if if you are undrafted, it doesn't matter if you're
- 14:02Speaker 1: a third rounder or new to this defense. It seems
- 14:06Speaker 1: like the guys who have to step up they're successful
- 14:09Speaker 1: in that. And it starts with the head coach. Why
- 14:12Speaker 1: is coach McDermott so good at getting the best out
- 14:15Speaker 1: of you guys.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Yeah, because you don't get treated as a backup for
- 14:19Speaker 2: to say, like everybody prepares like a starter. You never
- 14:23Speaker 2: know when your name is gonna be caught, so you
- 14:24Speaker 2: have to be able to be ready, just like I
- 14:28Speaker 2: just tell all the rookies like this, even if you're
- 14:30Speaker 2: on a private squad or you know, you may not
- 14:33Speaker 2: be playing right now, it's not necessarily a red shirt year.
- 14:35Speaker 2: You have to prepare like your name is gonna get caught,
- 14:38Speaker 2: you know, on Sunday, like you're.
- 14:40Speaker 3: About to dress and stuff like that.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So we always kind of prepare in that mindset like
- 14:44Speaker 2: we're about to play one hundred snaps, you know, each Sunday.
- 14:47Speaker 2: So if we, you know, get the chance to go
- 14:50Speaker 2: out there, we're always ready.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Your fellow DB's call you a Swiss Army knife of
- 14:55Speaker 1: this defense because you can do it all. Safety Corner Nickel.
- 14:58Speaker 1: You're also a big part of special teams as well.
- 15:02Speaker 1: When did this role start to come about where it
- 15:04Speaker 1: was cam Lewis is gonna be the guy who can
- 15:07Speaker 1: do a little bit of everything.
- 15:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess it started, I say twenty twenty one.
- 15:13Speaker 3: It started for me.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I was always big and trying to make the team
- 15:16Speaker 2: during special teams, you know, in offensive, I mean defense.
- 15:20Speaker 2: But one time, just like all right, we getting kind
- 15:25Speaker 2: of thin on one position. You think you can make
- 15:27Speaker 2: a transition to safety. Still got to play both, and
- 15:30Speaker 2: it's like, yeah, I mean I'm up for it. If
- 15:33Speaker 2: that makes me stick around a little bit longer, you know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: anything to help the team win.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I'm like, I'm up for it.
- 15:38Speaker 2: So that's kind of where it started, and it's just
- 15:41Speaker 2: been taken off from there. You know, still been playing
- 15:43Speaker 2: four course special teams, Still been trying to learn each
- 15:47Speaker 2: and everything in safety, niggle, and then sometimes I had
- 15:50Speaker 2: to go out there and play corner.
- 15:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 15:51Speaker 2: My first start was at outside corner versus Tennessee. So
- 15:55Speaker 2: I still you know, able to play you know outside
- 15:58Speaker 2: if I need to.
- 15:59Speaker 1: You make it look easy. But how much extra time
- 16:01Speaker 1: does it require to stay up to date and stay
- 16:05Speaker 1: ready at all of those positions?
- 16:06Speaker 2: A lot, a lot, a lot of early meetings, a
- 16:09Speaker 2: lot of late meetings, and a lot of nightly film
- 16:12Speaker 2: watching for me before I go to sleep, just because
- 16:15Speaker 2: it's it's.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Different positions, like you're looking for different things.
- 16:20Speaker 2: Your keys are different, the communication is a little bit different,
- 16:24Speaker 2: So you just got to be able to flip that
- 16:27Speaker 2: switch and do it, you know, just like the guys
- 16:30Speaker 2: that just play that position on you know what I'm saying.
- 16:32Speaker 3: So yeah, it's a lot of extra work, but it's
- 16:36Speaker 3: worth it though. You know, I still have a job.
- 16:37Speaker 3: I'm still helping this team win. And yeah, I'm still here.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Speaking of still being being here still and still having
- 16:46Speaker 1: a job, I mean, the Bills re signed you this
- 16:48Speaker 1: offseason to a two year deal. How does something like
- 16:51Speaker 1: that help your confidence knowing that this team wants you here.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it just shows that they value me.
- 16:58Speaker 2: And you always always feel good when you're wanted. And
- 17:02Speaker 2: you know, they were calling me during the process like yeah,
- 17:04Speaker 2: we want you back, you want you back, and you know,
- 17:07Speaker 2: I was trying to honestly, I was just trying to
- 17:09Speaker 2: test the waters, but something just kept on pulling me
- 17:12Speaker 2: back here. You know, Like I said, this is home
- 17:15Speaker 2: for me. So it's like anywhere else, if nobody can
- 17:19Speaker 2: match what the Bill's got, then I'm coming back home.
- 17:22Speaker 2: So I'm glad, you know, was able to sign back here.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Always I'm grateful for the opportunity and like I said,
- 17:29Speaker 2: this is this is the second home for me.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I'm glad you didn't truly test the water out some
- 17:34Speaker 1: other team, because you know you're so valuable. You've been
- 17:37Speaker 1: here for six seasons now, and I'm sure it helps
- 17:39Speaker 1: too as a player. You know this defense so well.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Now it would have been not that you couldn't have
- 17:45Speaker 1: done it, but to be here for six years and
- 17:47Speaker 1: really build on what you've been working on probably is
- 17:51Speaker 1: maybe what you wanted in the end of like, hey,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I can actually perform in this defense tomorrow tomorrow.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exactly winning the process as well too. And uh,
- 18:03Speaker 2: my wife, she was trying to like go test, go test,
- 18:08Speaker 2: go test, but yeah, exactly what she wanted. But it's like,
- 18:12Speaker 2: and I made a proper stor where I was like,
- 18:14Speaker 2: I have to stay here, then I buy you a
- 18:17Speaker 2: house wherever you.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Want to wherever you want to live.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Did we follow through?
- 18:21Speaker 3: We did follow So I bought a house in Texas.
- 18:23Speaker 2: We're down in Houston. That's where she wanted to move to.
- 18:26Speaker 2: And I was able to sound back here.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Happy wife, happy life. That's awesome. So you guys bought
- 18:33Speaker 1: a house in Texas. How is that process?
- 18:37Speaker 3: It's a little stressful at first, grow up a little bit, right, it's.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Crazy, it's crazy now. Yeah, so I'm officially a homeowner.
- 18:44Speaker 2: It's a lot of things that you have to do
- 18:47Speaker 2: in the house just to you know, have it up
- 18:50Speaker 2: and running. But it's it's been a lot, but it's
- 18:53Speaker 2: been it's been good though. Now she's getting like an
- 18:56Speaker 2: interior designers, she's doing all that extra stuff, so letting
- 19:00Speaker 2: her do all that, do all that stuff. But during
- 19:02Speaker 2: the process we're kind of we're kind of quick. But
- 19:06Speaker 2: it was kind of easy as well.
- 19:08Speaker 1: So did you guys spend most of the off season
- 19:10Speaker 1: there or is that going to be coming up this
- 19:13Speaker 1: off season?
- 19:14Speaker 3: Both?
- 19:15Speaker 2: So we went down there because I've never been to
- 19:18Speaker 2: Texas other than this pass off season, to be honest
- 19:21Speaker 2: with you. Went down there to the rodeo and see
- 19:25Speaker 2: what that's all about. And that is craziness, Like it's craziness,
- 19:29Speaker 2: so much stuff to do. The food there is amazing,
- 19:32Speaker 2: and yeah, we just we just spent some time down
- 19:36Speaker 2: there and I like it. I don't I don't mind it.
- 19:39Speaker 2: So it's a little bit farther from Detroit.
- 19:41Speaker 3: But.
- 19:43Speaker 1: You got some Texas guys on the roster at Oliver
- 19:47Speaker 1: von Miller, Terrell Bernard. They speak about Texas in a
- 19:52Speaker 1: different way, as if like, hey, we're from Texas and
- 19:55Speaker 1: if you're not, then you don't get it.
- 19:57Speaker 3: You get to be a part of it. I know.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Tell them I was just on a flight with a
- 20:03Speaker 3: this off season. I'm like, oh, where are you going?
- 20:08Speaker 3: I just bought a house maid. Welcome, welcome.
- 20:11Speaker 2: No, It's it's cool though, So I guess I have
- 20:14Speaker 2: some guys to train with, especially in the off season too,
- 20:16Speaker 2: so that that that helps. I don't have to find,
- 20:18Speaker 2: you know, a training on my own, so that always helps.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Definitely. I wanted to bring up your style because everybody
- 20:26Speaker 1: on this team has style. You also have your own
- 20:29Speaker 1: sense of style. It seems like it's more like relaxed casual,
- 20:34Speaker 1: but also with a twist of making it look nice
- 20:38Speaker 1: and upscale. Try how would you describe your style? I
- 20:42Speaker 1: pulled a couple of pictures. I don't know if we
- 20:44Speaker 1: want to talk through any of these. A couple are
- 20:46Speaker 1: from this season already, and one is from last season.
- 20:50Speaker 1: How would you describe some of the pieces they have?
- 20:54Speaker 2: So this one is honestly, Zara hits a toe that stuff,
- 21:01Speaker 2: you know, the shoes in the bag.
- 21:03Speaker 3: But I don't know.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I just want to especially this year, I want to
- 21:06Speaker 2: do a little bit more simpler, simple, straight to the point,
- 21:11Speaker 2: not a whole bunch of extra stuff. So I don't know.
- 21:14Speaker 2: My wife kind of put that together, honestly. I bought,
- 21:17Speaker 2: you know, like I told you, I just buy pieces.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I bought the pants. I'm like, oh, these pants look nice,
- 21:22Speaker 2: let me get these. And I bought the shirt. Shirt
- 21:25Speaker 2: actually came in like a set, like a short set.
- 21:28Speaker 2: So I just mix and match and.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Just kind of put all together. Just something simple, not
- 21:32Speaker 3: too much.
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'm not like a risk taker when it comes to fashion,
- 21:38Speaker 2: Like I like to be comfortable, clean, clean, Yeah, clean,
- 21:42Speaker 2: look not too much.
- 21:43Speaker 1: So that was where are the shades from?
- 21:46Speaker 3: Those are Cardier, So from being from Detroit, you have
- 21:51Speaker 3: to have like a pair of Cardier.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We call them buffs because of the buffalo horn. Yeah,
- 21:57Speaker 2: we call them buffs. So I have like a couple
- 21:59Speaker 2: of pair. So it's rotating and then it.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Looks like we have a Louis bag on the side.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Louis bag. Shout out dang Jack on the on
- 22:08Speaker 3: the gift stage. Lash, we missed you so much.
- 22:12Speaker 1: I like that a lot and then how long have
- 22:14Speaker 1: you had this thirty nine chain for?
- 22:16Speaker 3: Just got it? Just got it? So just off season was.
- 22:19Speaker 1: This gift yourself to myself sign signing.
- 22:25Speaker 2: It's the number I got in college. Yeah, and then
- 22:28Speaker 2: when I first got here, Levi had it.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Levi Wallace had it, and I was begging him to
- 22:32Speaker 3: have it, but he had he had it in college.
- 22:35Speaker 2: So I feel like that's the number that I've been
- 22:40Speaker 2: through the most stuff, you know, through and uh, we'll end.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So it has a meaning that has a lot of
- 22:47Speaker 3: meaning to me.
- 22:47Speaker 2: You know a lot of injuries through it and a
- 22:49Speaker 2: lot of ups and downs, but a lot of you know,
- 22:52Speaker 2: going upwards.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Yeah, trending in the right direction. I love that. And
- 22:56Speaker 1: this was a fit I believe on our way to
- 23:02Speaker 1: maybe one of the preseasons.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Miami, Miami, Yeah, Miami.
- 23:05Speaker 1: And you have the Louis luggage here.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's fancy.
- 23:11Speaker 1: That looks good.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Most of the stuff are gifts, So okay.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Louis, I would love to be gifted.
- 23:18Speaker 3: Me too. I'm very grateful.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Same to camp to.
- 23:27Speaker 3: This.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I love this comfy, cozy look. But it looks elevated,
- 23:32Speaker 1: you think, so, I think so, I think it looks fancy.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I mean there's a way that you can wear sweats
- 23:36Speaker 1: and a sweatshirts like, dang, you just roll out of beds,
- 23:40Speaker 1: but you look like I'm on my way to go
- 23:43Speaker 1: do something.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I try to at least I like
- 23:45Speaker 2: the more when I go cozy, I like the more.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Baggy, extra little oversized deal.
- 23:52Speaker 2: So that was like just some black swet fants, some
- 23:55Speaker 2: Acex comfy feet, and raspberry what they call a golden
- 24:01Speaker 2: vintage hoodie that just came out not too long ago.
- 24:04Speaker 1: When you're shopping, are you an online shopper? Are you
- 24:06Speaker 1: somebody who has to go in the store and try
- 24:08Speaker 1: things on both.
- 24:10Speaker 2: Both both more or less online because it's you know, Internet,
- 24:15Speaker 2: It's crazy. You see stuff, you get to stroll, see
- 24:17Speaker 2: something you like, Apple pay right to it.
- 24:21Speaker 1: It's the best and worst thing.
- 24:24Speaker 2: And I do a lot of late night scrolling shoes shopping,
- 24:27Speaker 2: So that doesn't help.
- 24:28Speaker 3: That never helps.
- 24:29Speaker 1: So shoe shopping, late night and shoe shopping. Do you
- 24:31Speaker 1: have a brand that you are obsessed with? Or you
- 24:34Speaker 1: somebody who likes to spread the wealth in terms of
- 24:36Speaker 1: what you're wearing on your feet.
- 24:39Speaker 3: I used to be a big Jordan guy.
- 24:40Speaker 2: So I used to be like a shoe collector type
- 24:43Speaker 2: of deal, but I've noticed I don't wear the shoes
- 24:47Speaker 2: that I buy, so I start.
- 24:50Speaker 1: You know what, that's very that's very mature.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Like I don't just buy shoes anymore, like I have
- 24:57Speaker 2: to wear them, like wow, costly, So I come shoes
- 25:01Speaker 2: I have on, like the Blinciagas, like those slippers, nice, nice, easy,
- 25:06Speaker 2: like I can kind of wearing with anything, like the
- 25:10Speaker 2: running shoe wave that they have right now, so you know,
- 25:12Speaker 2: digs it's big on the A six, yeah, like the
- 25:15Speaker 2: A six and New Balance. Been having a lot of
- 25:18Speaker 2: comfy shoes, so I've been doing some of those, and
- 25:22Speaker 2: then I may throw a couple of designer pairs in there,
- 25:25Speaker 2: like on that first fit from week one, those Louis
- 25:29Speaker 2: bitin red bottoms. I wouldn't know, but simple yeah too much?
- 25:34Speaker 1: Nice?
- 25:35Speaker 3: Yeah, not too much.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I like it. Do you test the shoes? I guess
- 25:39Speaker 1: you guys don't do too much walking on a game
- 25:41Speaker 1: day in Buffalo in December. But are you thinking about, Okay,
- 25:46Speaker 1: there's salt on the ground, it's snowy, I'm not wearing
- 25:49Speaker 1: my red bottoms. Are you like whatever I'm walking across
- 25:51Speaker 1: the street.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever, I'm walking across the street. It's not I
- 25:56Speaker 3: don't feel like it's that big of a deal. Like
- 25:57Speaker 3: to try to keep the red good, Nah, I don't.
- 26:00Speaker 2: I don't really care about that. My wife does, though.
- 26:03Speaker 2: She puts the the clear little thing at the bottom.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I don't know what what it's called, just to save
- 26:09Speaker 2: save the color. She hasked me to do it, like
- 26:12Speaker 2: freaking care who's looking at the bottom of the shoes.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Hey, there's some people that buy shoes and don't you said?
- 26:18Speaker 1: You realized I need to wear the shoes that I buy.
- 26:21Speaker 1: But there's some people that buy shoes that are super
- 26:23Speaker 1: nice and they just Theyeah.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I mean I have a couple of shoes like that. Yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 2: I guess you could feel like that. But don't be
- 26:31Speaker 2: worth nothing if you really don't.
- 26:33Speaker 1: All right, I want to finish up by going around
- 26:35Speaker 1: the dB room, because you have some great guys in
- 26:38Speaker 1: that room alongside of you. Who is the loudest guy
- 26:41Speaker 1: in the dB room?
- 26:44Speaker 3: Loudest? That's kind of tough because everybody got their moments.
- 26:52Speaker 3: But that's just the sko of se.
- 26:55Speaker 1: In what way?
- 26:57Speaker 2: Uh, he's always into something like any arguments is stemmed
- 27:01Speaker 2: from him.
- 27:02Speaker 3: Uh.
- 27:03Speaker 2: He always want to play like corn hole, Uh, ping
- 27:07Speaker 2: pong is this thing now? Yeah, but he's just always
- 27:10Speaker 2: into something.
- 27:10Speaker 1: He seems like the type of dude who's never going
- 27:12Speaker 1: to back down from a competition.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Even when he lose.
- 27:16Speaker 2: He's he's just looking for that one win and then
- 27:18Speaker 2: tell you about that one win.
- 27:20Speaker 3: I said, like, I don't beat you five other time,
- 27:22Speaker 3: you just got this one. What have you done lately?
- 27:24Speaker 3: That's what he says, What have you done lately? I
- 27:26Speaker 3: just want this one. That's all that matters. Like, that's
- 27:29Speaker 3: not that's not what it means.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Like that confidence on and off the field. Who is
- 27:36Speaker 1: the most interesting player in the dB room?
- 27:39Speaker 3: Interesting? I say, let's go t rap t rap.
- 27:43Speaker 2: He just does a lot of things that you normally
- 27:48Speaker 2: wouldn't do. I feel like the way he eats. He's
- 27:54Speaker 2: here early, leaves late, just like his routine he does.
- 27:58Speaker 2: You don't see a lot of guys doing that.
- 27:59Speaker 1: But yeah, he's got a health and wellness type.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Of He throw me off with a couple of things
- 28:07Speaker 3: that he'd be eating. Did any of the things my thing?
- 28:14Speaker 1: I love it. Who's the funniest in the dB room.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Funniest.
- 28:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna go d Ham, I'm gonna go school, and
- 28:25Speaker 2: then I'm gonna throw j Mark in there as well,
- 28:29Speaker 2: because j Mark is funny. He always wants to do something.
- 28:31Speaker 2: You never want to sit down. Just like this last
- 28:33Speaker 2: little break, He's like, man, I need to find something
- 28:36Speaker 2: to do. I need to find something to do, and
- 28:37Speaker 2: I'm like, j Mark, just stay here.
- 28:39Speaker 1: He is always picking up. I feel like in the
- 28:41Speaker 1: off season he'll come to us and be like, hey,
- 28:45Speaker 1: I have this thing that I want to do, whether
- 28:47Speaker 1: it's an invention, whether it's something new that he wants
- 28:50Speaker 1: to pick up on the side. He's always adding to
- 28:53Speaker 1: his repertoire that he can do. How do you have
- 28:57Speaker 1: the time?
- 28:58Speaker 2: Clothing clothing line, T shirt line, got underwear, he got
- 29:02Speaker 2: some soaps.
- 29:03Speaker 3: I'm like, dang, j ware, some got.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Storefront.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I know, like he got it off. That meant that
- 29:11Speaker 3: man's hilarious.
- 29:13Speaker 1: What does d Ham do that's so funny?
- 29:15Speaker 2: DM just be himself, which is which always a good time.
- 29:19Speaker 2: You know, he's always happy and uh shine that light
- 29:23Speaker 2: on everybody else. So but M just funny in itself
- 29:27Speaker 2: as well.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Where does kam Lewis fit into the mix.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I'm the more reserve, quiet, go with the flow type
- 29:35Speaker 2: of guy. But I may throw a couple of jokes
- 29:38Speaker 2: out here and there, get a get a couple of
- 29:39Speaker 2: last then I'm back.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Then you're back. I'm back to my You've been here
- 29:44Speaker 1: for the second longest out of any dB at this point.
- 29:49Speaker 1: How wild is that?
- 29:51Speaker 3: It's crazy? It's you and me and Terror.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Okay, so you were a young guy at one point
- 29:57Speaker 1: I was. Now you've been here for six years. You
- 29:59Speaker 1: got a lot in new faces in this building as well,
- 30:02Speaker 1: including the dB room. You're an o G.
- 30:07Speaker 3: It's crazy that you said that. Yeah, it's.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Different, you know, just because we did have Micah, we
- 30:15Speaker 2: did have whole and else with the two guys. Yeah
- 30:18Speaker 2: and Trey. Yeah, I can't forget about Trey. Those were
- 30:21Speaker 2: the guys we used to lean.
- 30:22Speaker 1: On and Levi was here for a minute too.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah, Dane.
- 30:27Speaker 2: We just had a whole bunch of guys that were
- 30:29Speaker 2: our core guys that were here for a while. But
- 30:32Speaker 2: to see them going it was it was a little different,
- 30:34Speaker 2: especially when we came back in the spring. But you know, uh,
- 30:38Speaker 2: something new, something you got to get used to. But
- 30:40Speaker 2: you know, we always miss those guys. So but terror
- 30:43Speaker 2: it's our leader now, he's our leader. He's on our
- 30:46Speaker 2: leadership council. Yeah, and we push into them everything like
- 30:49Speaker 2: all our dB discussions, all our dB dinners that we
- 30:52Speaker 2: have arguments about right to Terry's commissions all on him now.
- 31:01Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not taking that response, not yet.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Maybe a few years down the road when you're mister
- 31:08Speaker 1: Buffalo one hundred.
- 31:09Speaker 3: It's too much pressure.
- 31:10Speaker 1: At one point we look back and we'll be like, Wow,
- 31:12Speaker 1: Camp's been living in Buffalo for twenty years.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Now, I'm gonna have to buy a house.
- 31:16Speaker 1: It'll be the mayor of Buffalo, get.
- 31:19Speaker 3: About of here. You know, I love this place. So
- 31:23Speaker 3: it's been treatment.
- 31:24Speaker 1: It's got a way of pulling you in and you
- 31:25Speaker 1: just can't get out. I know, Buffalo doesn't want to
- 31:29Speaker 1: let you.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Go at all, and I don't want to let it
- 31:31Speaker 3: go right now.
- 31:32Speaker 1: So, oh, we love it.
- 31:33Speaker 3: It's a good thing.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I can't Thanks so much for sitting down telling us
- 31:37Speaker 1: a little bit about your story from Detroit to you
- 31:40Speaker 1: Be to now starting in the NFL. It's been so
- 31:43Speaker 1: fun to see what you've been able to do in
- 31:45Speaker 1: the last few years here because you're a big part
- 31:48Speaker 1: of this group.
