- 0:15Hey everybody, Welcome Back episode 18.
- 0:20We are we are still rolling strong.
- 0:23How has your week been Mike, my week's been pretty good.
- 0:30We I actually had the first RCA, they've hired at our office in
- 0:35about a year, Shadow me yesterday.
- 0:38So it's been through orientation driver training and attends
- 0:44Academy next week. So, That was that was kind of a
- 0:51I told him. If anybody looks at you funny.
- 0:53Just say look you're the first new hire we've had in about a
- 0:57year so it don't don't. Don't scare him away.
- 1:05So looking at him funny because they don't know what to do.
- 1:08Because there's a new person on the floor.
- 1:10Yeah, it's kind of like crikey. Sorry.
- 1:15Is in his natural environment, you know?
- 1:18So But you know, he's a he's a, he's a veteran and he said the
- 1:26same thing. My last RCA said to me was that?
- 1:29Yeah, I know I intend to make a go of this and they want me out
- 1:34of here. They're going to have to fire
- 1:35me. Like, I don't intend on quitting
- 1:38like, Okay. So let's hope that.
- 1:42Let's hope that he makes it. Yeah, definitely.
- 1:47Let's hope he makes it for you. That definitely would help James
- 1:51how was your week. Oh, lots of lots of fun.
- 1:57Got into a fight with the supervisor so solving that and
- 2:02then dealing with carrier questions, still over the wreck
- 2:06system and helping people understand the stuff which most
- 2:11people don't even understand as it is.
- 2:14And you know, trying to Keep the peace and keep people from
- 2:21jumping the gun on thing so to speak.
- 2:24So it's been a lot of fun and I felt like I've been juggling
- 2:28about five swords, three chainsaws and two flaming arrows
- 2:31at the same time, I know that feeling I really I do.
- 2:37I started o.j. teeing the one of the new RCA's this week and I
- 2:45did it in the non-standard way. For the fact that I was already
- 2:49scheduled to run this route through Wednesday and I'm like,
- 2:52well, he's seven on it. Just throwing with me, we'll
- 2:54start training him, and they had been casing for about 3 days.
- 2:58So they're familiar with the case.
- 3:00So, once we pulled down all by himself, he loaded the truck all
- 3:04by himself. We took DPS to the street and he
- 3:10delivered the whole entire route.
- 3:12Friday didn't want to take a break, didn't want to switch
- 3:16seats and And we got back at. I don't know about 5:15.
- 3:23So actually that was really really good.
- 3:27We need to give him a hand. Need the?
- 3:29Yeah, my hand for that. One death.
- 3:31Yes. Yeah.
- 3:33So Saturday. Yeah.
- 3:37How long would it take you to do, just that rail just that
- 3:41wrote on the day that we had the mail that we had on Friday, I
- 3:45probably would have been back around. 3:00 3:30.
- 3:50Yes, excellent. Yeah, yeah these are 12 hours
- 3:54behind doing most of the work himself.
- 3:57Yes that is excellent band around them, so people's jdk
- 4:08days. I didn't have anybody to take
- 4:10the aux route for me so because he did so well on Friday, I
- 4:15asked him. I said, would you be comfortable
- 4:17taking a portion of the route out on By yourself.
- 4:22And he's like I think I could probably do that.
- 4:25I said okay I said I'll let you choose what part of the route
- 4:27you want to take because the first half has your up-and-down
- 4:30US-23 and you've got several CB use which are still kind of
- 4:35confused and a little bit and then we got one condos where
- 4:38each there's 10 buildings and for four units per building and
- 4:43they each have their own mailbox that are, you know, you'll have
- 4:4750 one on top 50 to on the bottom for, you know.
- 4:51So each body Shouldn't hesitate on mailbox or just a big row
- 4:54group together and so that kind of confused him a little bit.
- 4:57I got to teach them to look at the actual unit numbers and not
- 5:00the individual street address but So he's like, well I'll take
- 5:05that back and after all the CPUs I said, that's fine.
- 5:08So I ran the front half and my Ox route and he was back and
- 5:12gone before. I was he got I got him out of
- 5:16the I got him out of the office, he was ready to hit the street
- 5:18about five minutes to ten and the postmaster went out to check
- 5:25on him when she was leaving for the day and he was within
- 5:32probably within about a half hour had left with a route if I
- 5:37was running it about a half hour.
- 5:38So I came about 45 minutes, left of the route to go at 12:45, she
- 5:43texted me and let me know where he was at because I said here's
- 5:46my phone number. If you need me, call me he's
- 5:48like I'll probably call you never heard once from him and I
- 5:52got back at 2:45 and he was done and gone and the few things that
- 6:00he did bring back where artery cased up.
- 6:07So the keeper we're giving him one day off.
- 6:13We're giving him Monday off and Tuesday.
- 6:15He's going to come back and I'm going to have him run the whole
- 6:17route again on his own. Why I ride in the back, come the
- 6:21jump seat and do to the family stuff.
- 6:25He may just be completely on his own on Wednesday, so but I think
- 6:29he will be fine. He is definitely, he's a keeper
- 6:33at this point and then not this week, but the following week
- 6:38I'll start training the other one on the street.
- 6:40So that's been my week for the most part and then we got
- 6:43another one of the pipeline coming down to.
- 6:47So I'll be busy training people for a little while.
- 6:54Josh, how was your week? Well, for the most part, it was
- 7:01good until Thursday when the car was using died.
- 7:07Apparently the timing chain jump to mess with the tensioner and
- 7:15they're saying in there. Pretty sure those internal
- 7:18engine damage but I felt I got towed to didn't want to open it
- 7:23and look just in case of a didn't extend the damage.
- 7:28So I got to get it towed to a shop for deals with interfere.
- 7:35Which was because my car, the there was an issue with it, and
- 7:45I think, November December, where the ride went through the
- 7:49block. And well, yeah, that needs a
- 7:52whole new engine in another car. Well, I got babies prices.
- 8:05Right. Well, get it till you know, Team
- 8:21Speedo causing. Yeah, other than putting her on
- 8:27here out Apparently, I heard would surely they, let her go
- 8:35partly because of a couple things, one of, which was no
- 8:41call no show for Amazon Sunday. so, it's never good.
- 8:50Nope. Alright, Bill, the stage is
- 8:54yours. I had a wonderful week.
- 8:59I mean, the weather was nice here.
- 9:05The management is outstanding the carrier's dedication to be
- 9:12in on the job on time. Every day is just wonderful,
- 9:17like, couldn't be any better. And when I get off the
- 9:22psychotropic drugs, I'm on, I'll tell you the real story.
- 9:28I was gonna say it's amazing that you can speak, so clearly
- 9:31with your tongue. So, so so deeply in your cheek,
- 9:35it's nailed to the roof of my mouth right now now.
- 9:40And I don't think Christopher, give me the floor here right
- 9:44after the podcast on Wednesday. And Is been bothered me, all the
- 9:51subject matter on Facebook groups?
- 9:54The rural carrier Associates, the rural carriers that that the
- 9:58Rex programs and everything and This is my pet peeve about the
- 10:05Union number one. Most people don't understand how
- 10:08a union functions and they think it's only there for them.
- 10:12It's for the whole, it protects the individual, but it's there
- 10:15for the whole, it's not for your benefits, not for my benefit is
- 10:19for the crafts benefit. Now the start on my main grief
- 10:27about this is all the negative comments, in regards to what's
- 10:31going on. Hey, a, if you are not in the
- 10:34union and you are on one of these websites, shut the hell
- 10:39up, If you don't register to vote, don't complain about the
- 10:44politicians. If you're not part of the Union,
- 10:48then you're not part of the solution.
- 10:50And if you say nothing gets done, that's because you're not
- 10:53willing to put your ass out there.
- 10:55Like we do every week every day and some of us go further than
- 11:02we really need to, but we want to help you protect yourself.
- 11:07So if you don't have the money to pay the dues, then there's
- 11:12something wrong with your finances.
- 11:14And I understand there are situations where yo single
- 11:18parents are out there, you know, car repair bills car replacement
- 11:22bills. I can understand that but I
- 11:26don't want to hear you bitch about the union and the Rex and
- 11:29everything else until you become a functioning member of the
- 11:34union, and work towards the betterment of The Craft and your
- 11:38office and the union itself, okay?
- 11:42So just shut the hell up as far as the union members are
- 11:45concerned. We discuss resolutions Now's the
- 11:50Time to discuss your National delegates.
- 11:55Stop picking the names. You know, if you have state
- 12:00people that are good, then elect them to go to this National
- 12:04Convention. If you have a good ADR elect
- 12:08them to go to the National Convention.
- 12:11If you have an area or local storage, you can elect them,
- 12:14elect yourself, get people behind you. the thing of it is
- 12:19that as we were Christian myself specifically and Josh on a
- 12:25previous podcast, we understood that you can't work from the
- 12:31outside and that's why we didn't jeopardize our positions in the
- 12:34Union by remaining with that podcast.
- 12:38You only can affect change from the inside.
- 12:43The only way you can currently affect change, is to get people
- 12:47who are at the National Convention, the vote along the
- 12:50lines that are similar to your views, what you see to be
- 12:56change, what needs to be changed, and it doesn't have to
- 13:00be specifically geared towards your personal interest.
- 13:04But what's in your office or how carriers are treating or how
- 13:07management is? Discipline or how the contract
- 13:10is in force. Both for people who are gonna
- 13:14represent the views of The Craft Ballots will be mailed out soon.
- 13:21You'll be able to elect these people vote for these people and
- 13:24then your state whichever State you were living in.
- 13:26Based on the number of employees will get a percentage of them to
- 13:30send to the National Convention, don't send people who are just
- 13:35names to you and for God's sakes, don't vote for retirees
- 13:42who have no interest in what your job is and hasn't been for
- 13:47the past 10 years. And there are some retirees in
- 13:51Pennsylvania, we have Wild Bill McKinley who every year at every
- 13:55convention, that every Regional convention, and seminar, turns
- 13:59around and rents out, a room, AKA sweet, and puts up a dry
- 14:04erase board or a, even a flip chart for all the things to be
- 14:08addressed. Now, there's somebody I can be,
- 14:12you know, supportive of rest of them are there for free
- 14:19vacations. The go see their friends from
- 14:22yesteryear. They have no horse in the race,
- 14:27except for a vacation and the support, those who bring the
- 14:31vacations. Put people in power, who
- 14:35represent the people and vote the people in power out, who
- 14:40represent themselves. Has anybody noticed that since I
- 14:44brought to light the LM 20 years ago, that all of a sudden, the
- 14:50national board stop spending eight thousand dollars for
- 14:53mattress sets 31 hundred dollars for personal desk or $1300 for a
- 14:59pellet grill. As anybody noticed that, you
- 15:04know, if you look into their time and they're leaving, all
- 15:08that which came up the question last time at Texas.
- 15:12That all of a sudden, you know, oh, maybe we should get paid at
- 15:16a higher rate. I'm requesting from our current
- 15:20secretary treasurer the payoff figures for Clifford and David
- 15:26because you're going to sit there and piss yourselves.
- 15:28When you see a half million dollar payout for somebody who's
- 15:32had accumulated almost 300 days of leave at 500, plus dollars a
- 15:38day and you all voted for it because he made it sound like
- 15:43such a sweet steel deal for the craft well, for the union per se
- 15:48because we can't afford to carry over all this debt that we are
- 15:52going to 0 in the future. So let's bump the money up and
- 15:57pay most of it out now. I want to see those figures
- 16:02because boys and girls most of those people on the national
- 16:05board is set for the newly-elected ones are
- 16:08millionaires. Multi-millionaires off of your
- 16:13dimes and I'm sick and tired of it.
- 16:20That's my rant, that's my rave. I'm done.
- 16:27Thank you Bill. I know you had some but yeah
- 16:30it's and I get my second run Wild Bill there I got a nice
- 16:35little fist bump from I'm after my walking out of the caucus
- 16:39room he was in when I did my little caucus to her I'm not all
- 16:45right. Retirees are there for a party?
- 16:47They are some that are still very active and wanting to help
- 16:50the craft but that number is not.
- 16:53As high as, yeah. That's all I'm gonna say about
- 16:58that. Well, you have to consider when
- 17:02my state sends 26 percent of its, you know, delegates, as
- 17:07retirees to the National Convention.
- 17:10Something's wrong. Something's very wrong.
- 17:16Yeah, it's and I noticed. I wasn't sure if I was going to
- 17:21say this, but it along the lines of bills thing.
- 17:24They're the right at the end of the resolutions episode this
- 17:29past week. I had told everybody, you know,
- 17:33do your homework and go download those resolutions convention
- 17:37proceedings and give them a read because you could download 2022
- 17:43and 2019. It was locked out yesterday,
- 17:48like I mentioned proceedings when I went to go in there and
- 17:51pull up, 2019. So, I've got all the hard
- 17:57copies. I do have land 2022, so
- 18:03downloaded and I think I had a hard copy of 2019 and at one
- 18:07time but it's very moving and everything at my probably
- 18:12disappeared on me. So yeah.
- 18:16As of last night it was locked out.
- 18:17I haven't tried it today so unless they're updating the
- 18:20website again again, just putting it out there that it
- 18:26was. I just tried I just tried to
- 18:27pull it up and it's not Letting me in either.
- 18:30Yeah, so okay, I was just going to go look for it.
- 18:34So if you're listening guys, hi how you doing?
- 18:39Yeah, and that note, so kind of a little bit of a ride.
- 18:42I think we're going to kind of do a little bit of a round table
- 18:44tonight. Everybody can like, pick the
- 18:46topic they want to discuss. I know we've had some things
- 18:49questions in the Facebook group. See, we've had emails that we've
- 18:54been answering James. What was the big one end of
- 18:57shift duties? I know I've seen a lot of it was
- 19:01that the one you want to talk about tonight?
- 19:04Yeah, this is the big one and I actually just recently saw
- 19:08another A post about it about postmasters telling people that
- 19:12they, they can't do end of, they can't do more than five minutes
- 19:17at the end of shift duties, and stuff like that.
- 19:20And it's not right. It is incorrect.
- 19:25They are instructing you improperly.
- 19:28The PO 603 is the defining regulation for postal carriers
- 19:35in. The rural craft is the rural
- 19:37carrier duties, and Abilities. And For that there is section 4
- 19:46of the PO 603 that tells you all of your Endo shifting and
- 19:53everything you need to do at the end of your shift.
- 19:56And of course, it's been updated a little bit with the wreck
- 20:02stuff to add the DPM and LTM systems, but there is so many
- 20:09different things you have to do at the end of your shift.
- 20:12I'm trying to actually pull it up right now.
- 20:13As I'm talking about it, that, you know, you have to do
- 20:20multiple different things to cover your end of shift.
- 20:23Duties as a carrier, you have to put your paper, put your time
- 20:28zone, your 4240, which is your time record.
- 20:33If your p.m. or your supervisor is putting in the times from
- 20:36your scanner and not putting them in from your 4240.
- 20:39They're doing it wrong. If you took breaks at this time,
- 20:45is when you write down the entire accrued time of your
- 20:49brakes on your 4240. You know, route changes like
- 20:57your edit book affixing postage to mail that you picked up
- 21:03postage for on the route. Part of your stamp stock sales,
- 21:08you would not put it on the envelope on the You would save
- 21:11it for your end of shift Duty and put it on in the office.
- 21:17Facing and depositing mail where it belongs.
- 21:20If you do that undeliverable, ordinary mail return from Route
- 21:27facing the mail that you bring back to the office or depositing
- 21:31it where it belongs. Like if you take DPS the street
- 21:34like Kristen's new sub was doing taking the DPS to the street at
- 21:39that time, you would put it where it belongs.
- 21:43You put away your certified, your Countable male would have
- 21:48to go in and place any money that you picked up on the route
- 21:54would have to be properly taken care of.
- 22:01Hang on, empty making payment putting it back away, or you put
- 22:07your empty equipment away. You're like, I said, your edit
- 22:13book is another one, your DPM, and LTM mapping is part of your
- 22:17end of shift duties, doing your case labels, when you get new
- 22:21labels for your case, that is an end of shift, Duty, maintaining
- 22:26your case, putting up your pars labels, however, you do your
- 22:29forward. It's in your case, whether you
- 22:31put them on the forward card or you put the name, on the case
- 22:36with the label maker, all that stuff is part of your into shift
- 22:40duties. Taking your bathroom isn't in
- 22:44the shift Duty emptying, your bladder, when you get back from
- 22:48the route as part of your industry of Duty, both the
- 22:51management side and the union sides, paperwork.
- 22:54All say that bathrooms are not a lunch break.
- 22:59You're going to the bathroom. Bathroom is federally required
- 23:02to be paid in both the union and the post office have put that in
- 23:07there, quick reference guides. And there are other materials
- 23:10that involve Rex and all this other stuff and if and if I can
- 23:14interject there's also a there's also a step for grievance
- 23:18settlement that says that that says that as well to back that
- 23:22up. Exactly.
- 23:24So there's all other paperwork that backs it up as well.
- 23:27The other thing talks with Management.
- 23:31If management wants to have an investigative interview or if
- 23:36they want to issue discipline, or if you have to file a
- 23:40grievance, that is an end of shift Duty on the end of shift
- 23:45clock. You don't go into anything else,
- 23:48just your return to D you and start doing all this work.
- 23:53Once you get done with all of that, then you can either go
- 23:56into p.m. casing or clock out, but you have to do all of this
- 24:01before you switch to p.m. casing or clock out for the day.
- 24:06This is time on your evaluation. This gets averaged out over the
- 24:13year, but this is your time to be put on your evaluation and if
- 24:18you aren't doing these things, on the end of your shift, you're
- 24:22leaving, Money on the table for the Post Office and that is my
- 24:25opinion. I can only give you my opinion
- 24:30here. I don't represent anybody but I
- 24:35want you guys to succeed rural carrier to rural carrier here.
- 24:40Even even if you are, I'm going to kind of Step Aside here and
- 24:48say even if you are a non dues-paying member, you are
- 24:51still my brother or sister in the craft, you still need to do
- 24:55this stuff, you still need to learn this stuff.
- 24:57You still need to know about this stuff and I understand Some
- 25:03people cannot afford it. I know that if I was in a
- 25:09different situation than I am right now, I might not be able
- 25:13to afford it. I mean cost of cars alone we
- 25:16just talked about that previously with Chris when other
- 25:19people were talking the cost of cars has gone.
- 25:21So high that maybe some people could go.
- 25:24Well I know that $32 that I are 32 dollars, I pay the union or
- 25:28whatever you pay, the union would be better, spent on me
- 25:31being able to afford Hard to get to my Postal job, because I'm on
- 25:36table to Step One lost a lot of money from my RCA days.
- 25:40And now I'm a regular carrier and can't afford some of the
- 25:43luxuries I used to have when I was an RCA.
- 25:47But we're all in this together and everything we can learn from
- 25:52each other through, whatever means possible to stick together
- 25:57is the best way we can do this. And learning all the duties.
- 26:05All the scans use are the aftermath and carrier discretion
- 26:10for ideas of what you can do for those as well, as your end of
- 26:15shift duties, everything you can do that is listed in our
- 26:20paperwork, to help your evaluation, you need to be doing
- 26:26It's no longer oh well we have this two-week count where
- 26:29everything that gets pounded matters and the rest of the
- 26:32year. We can just do whatever we want
- 26:34every day. Now, matters what you do, every
- 26:39scan matters, every input matters and everything you do.
- 26:46Unstraight time matters. So, make sure you are figuring
- 26:53out what you need to do to help yourself.
- 26:59Because your Case-Mate may be able to give you an opinion but
- 27:04it is of course carrier discretion on their route, what
- 27:10they want to do. And supposedly, we can figure
- 27:16this out together. Sorry, I had to throw the to
- 27:19drinking game words in there. And there's another thing that
- 27:31was brought up was we have, especially at 90, I hear similar
- 27:35in my office, especially with the one route that lost the most
- 27:40The coverage Factor. I I get this.
- 27:45So I'm only going to liberate 68% of my route and I'm done
- 27:50because that's all they say that I deliver their carriers out
- 27:55there saying it. Well, if I don't have DPS I'm
- 27:58not stopping. Even if a flags up where they
- 28:00have flats your coverage factor is based off of more than just
- 28:05DPS. It's also based off of the bread
- 28:10crumbs in the scanner. And is there one more thing,
- 28:14guys? You're the visually process
- 28:19nonlinear male. Yes.
- 28:22So Don't just deliver what you have DPS for that is not going
- 28:29to help you out one bit. I've also seen carrier saying,
- 28:33well I'm going to stop at every box.
- 28:35Well that's up to you again. That's your carrier described
- 28:41flag is up. If my postmaster or said that if
- 28:46she catches carriers doing that, when there's not a flag up or
- 28:51mail being delivered, and my postmaster, As do route
- 28:55inspections. And she catches you doing that.
- 28:58She will immediately remove you from the route for falsifying
- 29:02data. There's management that will do
- 29:06that to you. They will come out and they
- 29:07inspect your route. And if they see you doing
- 29:09something that you're not supposed to be doing, they could
- 29:12immediately remove you from the Route, 44, a gross violation.
- 29:16I and then the Union steward have to step up with that being
- 29:20in an emergency placement for that.
- 29:22I, you know, it's a felony. Yeah.
- 29:27Your falsifying, a government document.
- 29:29That's a felony. Yeah, you know, guys just do
- 29:33your job - scams, okay? Yeah.
- 29:36Cigarettes games were falsifying.
- 29:38Yo, and yeah, that every day. Yes.
- 29:43As as you as National has stated in the past at conferences and
- 29:50conventions. Integrity scans are not a thing
- 29:56but management still tries to make them a thing.
- 30:00But what I'm going to tell you guys is the flag is up, stop at
- 30:05the Box. if you have flats stop at the Box, Not just if you have
- 30:13DPS. Come on guys.
- 30:17Just just all I'm going to say it's just do your jobs the way
- 30:22you've always done your job. You might have a few extra scans
- 30:28to put in there with a few extra trips to doors or postage due or
- 30:34you know, something of that. But when it comes to just toss
- 30:39in the mail do it the same way you've always done it where some
- 30:45of these numbers I mean again until they actually give us the
- 30:49black-and-white data and we don't even have the answers for
- 30:54what the stuff is. Unfortunately, and it's, you
- 30:58know, it affects us just as much as the rest of you guys out
- 31:01there. So please, you know, if the flag
- 31:04is up, stop at the Box. If you know they have flats but
- 31:10no DPS deliver the flats. I mean I'm 41 and not wanting to
- 31:14track that shit all the way back to the office with me and having
- 31:16to re case it hoping they have DPS the next day.
- 31:19No. Just deliver the mail.
- 31:21Absolutely. Absolutely.
- 31:23And that's also delaying the mail to absolutely no offense.
- 31:33Let me put this out there about that.
- 31:37That coverage factor is yes. Based on digitally processed
- 31:42mail that includes the nlm mail and comes in little bundles and
- 31:46stuff like that. But it is not all the mail that
- 31:50you are grounded. For that day, you are also
- 31:54counted for your factor from the mini mail survey for the raw
- 31:58mail each day, you're also factored for the flats.
- 32:03You're a factor for everything. That's on your for 8241 m is
- 32:09factored in for that day. So even though you may not have
- 32:13the coverage factor, that you're actually delivering its factored
- 32:18in L, swear on your 4241 M. So saying that the coverage
- 32:23factor is the basis of how much money you get paid to deliver.
- 32:26The mail on the route is completely false because it's
- 32:29factored in Elsewhere on your 42 41, m.
- 32:33You know, just do the right thing because it's the right
- 32:38thing to do. We pride ourselves about given a
- 32:43damn about our customers and making sure our customers get
- 32:46the best service possible. The management above our
- 32:51postmasters. Maybe some of our postmasters
- 32:54probably doesn't give a damn about the customers.
- 32:57They just care about the numbers on a spreadsheet because that's
- 33:00all they see they don't come out to the field and meet The
- 33:03customers that meet us every day at the mailbox and say, hi.
- 33:06How you doing? Are you staying cool on a hot
- 33:09day? Are you, are you staying warm on
- 33:12a cold day? Kind of thing?
- 33:14They aren't out there checking on us and making sure that our
- 33:18customers are being treated with dignity and respect, like we
- 33:22treat them with right. It's our job to take care of our
- 33:29people. Yeah, I just I just don't I just
- 33:34don't get this and I saw some people trying to justify this on
- 33:38social media, going back to the coverage factors only 75%.
- 33:43So I'm only going to cover 75% of my route for deliver 75% of
- 33:47my router. I'm not going to pick up
- 33:49outgoing mail. You know, folks, I just don't
- 33:52get why I get why people are upset about their evaluations,
- 33:58believe me, I understand and we there's a lot of stuff.
- 34:01On with this. But why the hell are you wanting
- 34:04to take this out on your customers?
- 34:07Why the hell are you going to make them suffer?
- 34:12Because we're having this battle with the post office right now.
- 34:19Definitely. Is that a Smurf fault?
- 34:20It's not their fault. In fact, if people stopped
- 34:24sending mail, we wouldn't it's one of those old things.
- 34:27If people stopped sending mail, we wouldn't have a job.
- 34:31And then, where would we be? But we can't depend on Amazon,
- 34:36can't know. They could, they could, they
- 34:38could decide they could, they could form a partnership with I
- 34:42mean, they're doing their own now, but they can form some
- 34:45partnership they could, they could buy out FedEx or deep or
- 34:49UPS or DHL or somebody and all of a sudden all that Amazon
- 34:55would go away, then where would we be?
- 34:58D mu T mu. You know, it's funny because,
- 35:07right before the Super Bowl, I started seeing add, I started
- 35:11getting stuff from T mu in my parcels.
- 35:14And then, they had an ad on the Super Bowl.
- 35:15I thought I'm already starting to see that stuff.
- 35:19Oh, yeah. And don't forget about, don't
- 35:21forget about wish and Alibaba, because we still a thing.
- 35:26I think team moved a little bit. Farm, yeah.
- 35:29Um, I still get those little tiny little packets once in a
- 35:33great while. But, yeah, Teemu, that's always
- 35:39the thing is, you know, your Amazon Queens, all of a sudden,
- 35:43you know, you're next thing it up.
- 35:45Oh, they discovered Teemu. Yeah, I was, I was just gonna, I
- 35:52was just gonna throw in as just going to throw a quote about
- 35:56that. I had a box from them, that was
- 36:03Like 2 feet by 2 feet by 3 feet, the other day like I didn't know
- 36:09they had anything that large. I actually saw a box.
- 36:12I was like really they use boxes.
- 36:14Everything else comes in the poly bags but go ahead.
- 36:16Mike finish what you were saying.
- 36:18No. I was just I was just saying
- 36:19that just to finish up. I thought there was a perfect.
- 36:24I don't remember which team he coach former professional
- 36:27basketball coach. One of his one of his big things
- 36:30to his players and one of the things Has he always just
- 36:34stressed, is this. Do your job?
- 36:38That's it. That's all that's all we can ask
- 36:41for from from each other is just do your job and have some
- 36:46integrity. It says and if I can go back to
- 36:53my original ran in regards to use the non-union pay Members,
- 36:59folks, you have to realize that being my shop.
- 37:02Steward that in March of 2021, I started monthly monthly
- 37:09reminders to start scanning, start recording doing everything
- 37:14that they were supposed to. We had to handouts back then
- 37:17before, man. Judgment was even aware of it.
- 37:20So you had a two-year lead in on this situation coming to a head
- 37:26and I explained the importance of this to you.
- 37:29And here's the thing about the non-union members that you know,
- 37:33I provided information for because OK, they bid on a route
- 37:38and they get it and somebody comes in behind them who's a
- 37:42union member and they have no clue whether or not these people
- 37:46had the information Do all their scans that they should have been
- 37:50doing for over two years and whether or not the route is
- 37:54properly evaluated. So I wanted to make sure every
- 37:58carrier in our office, had the opportunity to maximize maximize
- 38:01their paycheck, to make sure they were getting paid for
- 38:05everything they were doing. And yet, you know, Union or
- 38:09non-union, individuals were crying about the six cans folks,
- 38:15the six cans was the, the Minimal view that you should
- 38:21have had in regards to your evaluation.
- 38:26It's only worth five seconds. It's the bare minimum for your
- 38:30family. There you go.
- 38:32So, don't don't tell me about. Yo, the, the six cans.
- 38:36Don't tell me about, you know, not putting the wsh or two WS s
- 38:40in there or, you know, the Box holders right thing else.
- 38:45I purposely held up my wallet and the scanner and told them,
- 38:49if it goes in here, you get it in your wallet.
- 38:52If you don't put it in the scanner, you're not getting
- 38:54paid. If you can't make it any simpler
- 38:58than that, you're giving the money back to the post office is
- 39:02what you really want, and they're gladly taking it too.
- 39:07All right, we had a question. Come on messenger yesterday.
- 39:13The I believe it's on the 42 41. M.
- 39:17I didn't have one in front of me to look it up, but they want an
- 39:21explanation on the oor out of Route Drive walk.
- 39:27I got that. All right, go ahead, of course I
- 39:31do. Yeah.
- 39:34The or out of Route is 100% your delivery to the door.
- 39:43It is your time your drive time from your mailbox, to your Park
- 39:48point. And then at your walk time, from
- 39:51your Park Point straight line to the door Point plotted, and the
- 39:56drive time is through the speed Matrix, the distance from the
- 40:00mailbox to your Park point and then standard walk time from
- 40:04Park point to the door and back. That's all it is.
- 40:08That is your out of Route, part of that.
- 40:12So you are getting paid to drive to your parts point.
- 40:15You are getting paid to walk from your Park point, to your
- 40:18front door, and that's what it is.
- 40:21I'm going to add, because another thing that seems to be
- 40:23very popular. When you're scanning Parcels,
- 40:28there are three different credits for the parcels based on
- 40:32where you deliver. You have in the Box parcel
- 40:37locker, and to the door. Now, the big question arises on
- 40:42garage other location. Front desk, Etc.
- 40:49Anything outside of to the door, parse Locker or mailbox, gives
- 40:56you to the door credit. So the delivered in person
- 41:03whether they met, you all Out at the mailbox or halfway up the
- 41:06driveway. If you delivered at the garage
- 41:11or at another location because they requested it to be dropped
- 41:15around the back door or put in a bin that they have because of
- 41:21the weather or they don't want people coming up to the door.
- 41:23I know I've got a few of those. Those all give you to the door
- 41:29credit and where you pinpointed the door during your mapping.
- 41:35Very Line Credit to the door even if you walk to the side of
- 41:38the house to the garage or something like that.
- 41:40Yes. Wherever you pinpointed the
- 41:44door. So if you pinpointed the garage
- 41:46as the door because that's where you drop everything off at, then
- 41:52everything that's outside of the three basic ones.
- 41:57Always goes to that point wherever you pinpointed that
- 42:00location, as your main drop-off spot, And it's a lot of there's
- 42:08a lot of like we sat in in the aftermath and carrier
- 42:13discretion. It's it's all supposedly
- 42:20designed to maximize the credits.
- 42:23You receive In your scanner, but we haven't seen the numbers for
- 42:28it. And I went through my 4241 em
- 42:32and added it all up and I don't have all the calculations for
- 42:36it. And I found discrepancies here
- 42:38and there and everywhere and it's just like everybody else
- 42:41has And the problem to me is, we need the numbers, I need the
- 42:48equations and I need the numbers that make those equations, and
- 42:53they aren't given those to me, that is my biggest problem with
- 42:56this. Turn around if you can turn
- 43:01around and show me exactly how you calculate this out.
- 43:04And show me all the numbers that went into it.
- 43:07I'd be perfectly happy saying okay.
- 43:09Yeah, I guess because of this volume right here, I deserve to
- 43:14lose two hours. But I can't say yeah, that
- 43:18volume is not there anymore. I can't compare my male numbers
- 43:23with the rec system to my 2018 count.
- 43:28I can't compare how much my DPS has gone down or gone up.
- 43:32Can't tell whether my flats has gone down or gone up.
- 43:35Can't tell if my packages have gone down or gone up I have to
- 43:38trust trust that somebody up at National or in some computer lab
- 43:44in the basement, you know, chewing on Cheetos has
- 43:47determined that. That's the mail volume.
- 43:49I actually got for the year. I need proof.
- 43:53I want the truth and unfortunately, the truth, but
- 44:04that's the key is transparency. We need somebody to step up and
- 44:10say, Here's what you, what you want.
- 44:13Here's what you need to do your calculations yourself.
- 44:18When we did the mail accounts in 2018, Everything was cut dried
- 44:23right in front of our faces and we don't get that here.
- 44:27We need proof. I'm a guy of Truth honesty,
- 44:34paperwork show me it in writing. When my p.m. asked me to do
- 44:40something, I say, do it to me in writing.
- 44:44Everything needs to be in writing for me because in the
- 44:47end I want the proof that that's what it is.
- 44:52If I don't have the proof of, that's what it is.
- 44:54This doesn't mean anything to me.
- 44:56You can put anything you want on it, but if you can show me, hey,
- 45:00all this, all this correlates to this correlates, this correlates
- 45:03to this. I'm more apt to believe you.
- 45:08Anybody agree to disagree? I'm gonna add, I do agree with
- 45:13you because this is another Hot Topic on the social medias
- 45:21logging in under the city carrier side.
- 45:24And looking at the, how am I doing option?
- 45:27Yep. They how am I doing option on
- 45:29the city side has absolutely nothing to do with the rural
- 45:33site. Therefore is not going to be a
- 45:38reflection of what you're doing that day.
- 45:44It is not a rule side program, it specifically for the city
- 45:49side and is not an accurate measure of anything based on a
- 45:54rule. I think we should reach out to,
- 45:57if any of our city carrier Brethren and sisters have how
- 46:02that's figured out for them and can get it to us how that's
- 46:06actually works for them, we'd appreciate that information so
- 46:10we can actually pass it on to our rural carrier, brothers and
- 46:12sisters. Because I would love to know how
- 46:15their program works. I'm and I have seen City
- 46:20carriers, go into it and it has hard braking and fast
- 46:24acceleration, and they're on a walking route, and they got, and
- 46:29they got flagged with hard braking and fast acceleration,
- 46:33and they're walking. Well, that's what I was trying
- 46:37to either. Well, that's what I was trying
- 46:41to get away from the Chihuahua. That's the fast acceleration.
- 46:44Yeah. German Shepherds all defensive
- 46:50came after me. I wear sandals and dark gray
- 46:55come in 10. The parcel count from there and
- 47:05the, in the review, my entries and then I forget, there was one
- 47:12other spot that you can look. I can't remember where it is.
- 47:16Now that I actually looked that up.
- 47:19Had three different numbers for the parcel count.
- 47:24We have the review is all skins pickups drop off carrier pickup
- 47:34request. Manifest Farms, right?
- 47:41Anything you scan, if you scan the red plum, scan their the
- 47:45beginning of the week that goes in there too.
- 47:48Right, that's insane. So, you know, I know that number
- 47:51will be held on a day-to-day basis will be a few all, you
- 47:57know, a few off. But like I said, Both low truck.
- 48:09I don't need it but From what you were saying about
- 48:30in writing, we had someone messages earlier today and I
- 48:37told them that I would bring it up on our panel this evening
- 48:40just to make sure that I told them correctly.
- 48:45They were inquiring about the buying the guarantee for 2080
- 48:52with the high options. If it means, you know if it
- 48:56means anything other than if you are eligible.
- 49:02And have the option of the highway option that you have to
- 49:08sign that guaranteeing that you will pick them up.
- 49:11Annually to stay under 2082, take the high option.
- 49:18Else if I am, I correct on that that this the only thing that
- 49:22that represents that you're signing that you will take
- 49:25enough weed to stay under 2080 hours to allow you to take that
- 49:29high option. If you're eligible and it's an
- 49:33option where you from the way, your route ended up I do believe
- 49:38that is correct bill. I would agree with that.
- 49:43Yeah. Okay, what is it?
- 50:15Not that I would, I know people to view sick, leave to
- 50:19accomplish that same. Mmm.
- 50:25Yeah, supposedly. Well hold on.
- 50:41You're talking about doing the jobs way.
- 50:43We're supposed to do the jobs and being honest and forthwith
- 50:46and then you throw out carrier discretion on the time.
- 50:49If you don't take it to the door, then you should be putting
- 50:53it as the being delivered to the The door correct?
- 50:57Okay, I mean, yeah, your breadcrumbs will actually change
- 51:03over time depending on the footprint of where you're
- 51:06delivering it and where you're scanning it includes.
- 51:09If you're one of those that scans it in the truck.
- 51:12Oh God, please. That was fun mapping.
- 51:16I had one carrier and I knew exactly where she parked every
- 51:21time because that's where she scanned.
- 51:23The package. I just looked at her and I said
- 51:27your skin and in the truck, aren't you?
- 51:29She's like, yeah, I said stop supposedly that the geofence of
- 51:38where the vehicle where you parked the vehicle in a lot of
- 51:42cases will be by the mailbox. So it's going to recognize that
- 51:51you were at the mailbox when you scanned.
- 51:52It delivered. Let's remember management has
- 52:03the discretion to go out and do Rob inspections at any time that
- 52:07they feel like it now, do you should be observing on your
- 52:12route and of course, you could be doing your job, right, the
- 52:16whole time, but you should know when they're following you
- 52:18around, and watching what you're doing.
- 52:20And there has actually been no instance where a manager has
- 52:27been following a carrier around and they've called the police on
- 52:30them. In the manager.
- 52:31Got upset about it. You're actually protecting the
- 52:34mail calling unto manager, following you around.
- 52:38I've heard of customers call and going.
- 52:40Why is that car following you? Yeah, you know, it happens.
- 52:44I mean, usually they I'm not going to say usually but yes,
- 52:49they are entitled to do route observations.
- 52:52I had one, I had a funny time. I had I knew she was out doing
- 52:57observations that week and I didn't recognize the car.
- 53:00She was driving and I had a package delivered and she was
- 53:05parked in the driveway of the house.
- 53:06I needed to do. Were the package and I walked up
- 53:08to the car. Thinking it was the customer.
- 53:14And she just laughed along with me on that one.
- 53:17But yeah, they they can definitely you know, any time.
- 53:24So and it and it doesn't necessarily have to be your
- 53:28local management. It could be measured.
- 53:30Am another nearby office I will be somebody.
- 53:34Yeah it could be somebody from District.
- 53:36I know survey we my old office they let us know that safety was
- 53:41out and about and would be you know, No inspecting routes and
- 53:46stuff too. We didn't know who it was or
- 53:48what the car look like. But we were aware that safety
- 53:50would be following us around the inspectors to death.
- 53:53Yeah, it's going to say that because I had a little run-in
- 53:57with them years ago and ended up sending one of them to the
- 54:01doctors at the hospital to get stitches in his head.
- 54:04Holy cow. Whoops, well, I came, I came out
- 54:11of this business where I went in and brought it to Then with the
- 54:14mail and collect the table, they had their as they come out.
- 54:17There's this guy going around the side of my truck, you know,
- 54:20and checking the door and you know, he didn't have any, I
- 54:24couldn't see any ID from the behind, so I ran up, I jammed
- 54:28him head first? Right into the frame of the door
- 54:31where the mirrors were put a clip in his forehead, had him on
- 54:34the ground. And here's this other guy, yet
- 54:36that of the car with a gun pulled and I'm like, oh, what
- 54:39the fuck did I just do? Your was a Postal Inspector?
- 54:43Like you're checking to see if the vehicle is secure I'm like
- 54:46shit wasn't secure. Accommodation for that know.
- 54:54The Postmaster said, you know what why don't you tell Jim
- 54:57first ice is? I don't give you that
- 54:59opportunity. It's not in my training you
- 55:03though. Yeah.
- 55:07That was a laugh for about a year and a half of my office.
- 55:11Don't Go Near Bill's Truck. Hey, he was nice enough about
- 55:19it. You know.
- 55:20He says it's the first time that's ever happened to me and I
- 55:22said well me too. Yeah yeah.
- 55:26Alright yeah. Our job here is to invigorate
- 55:32you and make you care about your job more than you already do.
- 55:36Yeah. Like you care about what you do
- 55:38and where you're going in this job because now it's up to you
- 55:44how this job takes care of you. And we want you to succeed just
- 55:51as much as we want to succeed ourselves.
- 55:53Some of us lost money. Some of us gained money, some of
- 55:56us stayed the same, but we're all here for you.
- 56:01To give you the hand up in your career here in the in the rural
- 56:08craft. So anything we can do to help
- 56:11you, let us know. Because we don't care if you're
- 56:16in Michigan or North Carolina or Florida, South Dakota, North
- 56:21Dakota or even Hawaii. We're here for.
- 56:25You guys are part of Rico. Let's not forget about 0 carry
- 56:30their carriers in Puerto Rico and other US territories as well
- 56:33as our carriers that serve our military bases.
- 56:37Yep. I'm with the rural route and
- 56:39Guam. Guam is good?
- 56:45Yeah, it is. That's why we're so passionate.
- 56:53That's why we bring our attitudes and our extreme voices
- 56:59to. This is because we care No
- 57:03matter where you are on the Chain, whether you are a current
- 57:08rural carrier. Even a retired carrier, you're
- 57:10still a rural carrier to us and we may say things that upset you
- 57:18But we hope you take that anger that you get from us, upsetting
- 57:22you and put it towards bettering the crap.
- 57:26Because that's what this whole thing is about.
- 57:28Bettering, the craft, exactly. I mean we all don't agree with
- 57:33each other all the time but we know that we're all in this
- 57:36together for everybody and you know, that's exactly what we're
- 57:44trying to do. And And to get you know, be
- 57:48active, if you are you know you're questioning everything,
- 57:52BF, you know, it even if you can't go to the conferences in
- 57:57the convention, you can still vote for those delegates that
- 58:01are going to represent you and like Bill stated earlier.
- 58:05And I've stated in past episodes, do your homework on
- 58:09those nominees. Because, you know, that's where
- 58:15the votes come in on the floor, are those delegates that you
- 58:17send to Convention? Those are the people that are
- 58:21casting that vote on your behalf for National officers for
- 58:27Resolutions. You know, they're the ones that
- 58:30are up there objecting to resolutions to get clarification
- 58:34or say, no, this. No, this won't help or yes, this
- 58:38will help. Or, you know, they're the ones
- 58:40arguing at the A phone over resolutions.
- 58:43You know, they're the ones voting for National officers.
- 58:47Are there ones that are sitting on a Thursday night during
- 58:49caucus till 10:00 11:00 at night.
- 58:52Listening to every one of those people candidates that are
- 58:56running for office. And trust me, Thursday nights
- 58:59are rough. I have not, I have I have sent
- 59:03through caucuses, as, as a delegate, as an alternate
- 59:07delegate and I have walked through caucus as a candidate,
- 59:11Thursday nights are brutal, you know?
- 59:14And that's you know, I'm going to put this out here on, you
- 59:17know. Yes, the pictures that you see
- 59:19that are posted on social media, the banquet and everybody
- 59:23sitting together at night, drinking and laughing and the
- 59:28partying, you know. Yeah, they put those ones out
- 59:31there because it's showing everybody having a good time,
- 59:34but that's our way of Relaxing after we've been in a convention
- 59:40room floor. Okay.
- 59:42Yeah, winding down after a brain meld of business.
- 59:48I mean, I can go home after a week ago events and more
- 59:51exhausted I was, you know, working 60 hours a week during
- 59:54Christmas is the only RCA in the building because it's a mental
- 59:59overload. How many times during convention
- 1:00:03did we break for the ER, when we finished for the evening?
- 1:00:06Saying we're all the food places at the at the convention site
- 1:00:11closed. Yeah, you know, it's like, you
- 1:00:16know, It's a good thing. I had some stuff to eat in my
- 1:00:21room because otherwise I did, you know, I wouldn't have had
- 1:00:24anything to eat until the next morning at breakfast.
- 1:00:27You know, is I had a I had a roomful of first-timers with me
- 1:00:36at convention this last year and the one of the reasons why I
- 1:00:40drove and those that help me unload my car and take
- 1:00:42everything up to the room. I mean I had cooler, I had bags
- 1:00:46and boxes of snacks and Coolers of stuff, both alcoholic and
- 1:00:51non-alcoholic. But you know, to just because,
- 1:00:54you know, you're not necessarily going to have a meal when you
- 1:00:57get done. And Friday nights.
- 1:01:00The last night, I remember Grand Rapids went until it was just
- 1:01:05nine o'clock at night. By the time we got out of there
- 1:01:07because you go until you're done, You know, and the other
- 1:01:11and the other thing is the site they had in Orlando didn't allow
- 1:01:17for outside food. Deliveries.
- 1:01:19Yeah. So you couldn't call up a
- 1:01:22doordash or GrubHub or the local pizza joint and have something
- 1:01:26dropped off. You had to buy, you had to buy
- 1:01:28stuff from there or from their food court or whatever.
- 1:01:33We're go off-site if you had a car yeah to go get food.
- 1:01:36I mean I we did that one night. We went to Wawa to get Some
- 1:01:40food, you know? Wow.
- 1:01:42Wow. But yeah.
- 1:01:47It's you know not you don't have that luxury everywhere you go
- 1:01:51being able to order in or so. Yeah.
- 1:01:54You you take stuff and you know it's you.
- 1:01:58Yeah but that's what they were promised.
- 1:02:00You posted pictures of everybody having a good time you know
- 1:02:04because that's what they want to portray is.
- 1:02:06We're all having a great time here and I get I get the City
- 1:02:10you get from from others saying, you're just going to party.
- 1:02:15The After parties is the wind down, trust me.
- 1:02:18That is. Yeah, the wind down from the
- 1:02:21brain, melt of the day, I'm going to just say this from the
- 1:02:26State Convention. I went to my butt was sore.
- 1:02:30After that was just, that wasn't even as long as National just
- 1:02:35compared National to stay on steroids.
- 1:02:39Yeah, I seen the Percy. I seen the times.
- 1:02:44You guys were talking them. An online and stuff about it and
- 1:02:47I'm going you guys are just getting out of that.
- 1:02:50Yeah, like how? Yeah.
- 1:02:53Oh, hello. And then after that, you know,
- 1:02:55you spend two hours carousing on the in a bar or outside, you
- 1:03:00know, just still talking to people.
- 1:03:02I mean, yeah, then you're getting up at 6:00 a.m., you
- 1:03:05know, trying to get a shower with three other people in the
- 1:03:08room. Sorry, I didn't mean to bring it
- 1:03:11up Christian. But that but yeah, no, it is
- 1:03:18long days. It is definitely, it is long
- 1:03:21tiring days. And yeah, it's as a deli that's
- 1:03:28just mounds of paperwork to go through resolutions.
- 1:03:32I mean, you go back to your rooms and you're going through
- 1:03:34resolutions together, your, you know, because you got to read
- 1:03:39through those before they actually do them on the floor
- 1:03:41because if not, you're just going, huh?
- 1:03:47Actually why my resolution failed and National last year's
- 1:03:50because it was so long people went.
- 1:03:51This is too long. Skip next one.
- 1:03:54Yeah. That's and you're just talking
- 1:03:56about people who are going just as a delegate think about the
- 1:04:00people who have who have who go and have special assignments.
- 1:04:05Yeah, you know, my my State president was on the appeals
- 1:04:10committee. Yeah.
- 1:04:12And he they went, he went early. A couple days early and he had
- 1:04:19just one checked bag that was all the paperwork he had to do
- 1:04:24for the appeals committee because they had all those those
- 1:04:28appeals that they had that they had to adjudicate.
- 1:04:31Well yeah you got everybody. The resolutions committee, the
- 1:04:35teller committees, all those people come in early so they can
- 1:04:38get their chatting and get their instructions before they're
- 1:04:42actually on the floor, having to do what they have to do.
- 1:04:45Especially for the national officers votes voting for our
- 1:04:49national officers. He wasn't even, I think he
- 1:04:52missed half of them because he still had work to do with the
- 1:04:57appeals committee. And so he had he, you know, I
- 1:05:05don't remember how the, how we did it.
- 1:05:07But yeah. So you know, don't I know most.
- 1:05:11I know most of Union conventions are portrayed as big party.
- 1:05:15But this, you know, there is actual work that gets done.
- 1:05:17This is, you know, when we say, you know, you complain about
- 1:05:22this or that but the union are, you just going to complain about
- 1:05:24it on social media? Or are you going to, you know,
- 1:05:29especially, if you're a member of the Union?
- 1:05:30Are you going to get involved? Find out how to write a
- 1:05:33resolution and set it up for through your state.
- 1:05:36If you don't know how find somebody who does, yeah and
- 1:05:40draft them together. One of our one of our supporters
- 1:05:43here just had her County meeting and how many, how many
- 1:05:47resolutions did she say? She took, like seven, something
- 1:05:53seven or eight that she took the time to write out and pray, you
- 1:05:59know, and take to the floor of her of her meeting to try to try
- 1:06:03to make change, you know? And then he need right there.
- 1:06:09Yeah. Being a keyboard, being a
- 1:06:11keyboard Warrior is not going to is not going to cut it.
- 1:06:16And that kind of gets me to the thing I want to rant about is
- 1:06:18everybody's saying, well, the way to show that to show our
- 1:06:22disapproval of what's going on with this is to drop out of the
- 1:06:26works, that you can do that. That's that we're going to show
- 1:06:29the bigwigs that enough of us drop out that if our if there,
- 1:06:34if the dues dry up and they can't get their six-figure
- 1:06:38salary, then they'll start to pay attention to us.
- 1:06:40It's like, no, you just make us weaker.
- 1:06:42You just give them less of a voice.
- 1:06:45That gives that, you know, what's what, you know, then they
- 1:06:48have to, you know, what salaries are they going to cut?
- 1:06:51What are they going to start cutting at headquarters?
- 1:06:53Are they going to start, you know, are they going to have to
- 1:06:56make cuts to the legislative liaison office?
- 1:06:58Are they going to, you know, what are they going to do?
- 1:07:01They gonna have to cut their assistant Staffing?
- 1:07:04You know, this the normal Staffing, the outside employees
- 1:07:08that our staff at the office, you know, the people's people
- 1:07:14are for if an arbitration mmm-hmm exactly.
- 1:07:20You can make paint in. Arbitration could be cut because
- 1:07:23we lost union dues. Yeah, I mean and if you have
- 1:07:27tools are eliminating staff at the office, well now you're
- 1:07:31putting even more on to that national board member, who is at
- 1:07:36that office every day. Now, they're having to answer
- 1:07:41their own phone calls or having to answer and it's, you might
- 1:07:44not Back even longer because they don't have the staff to
- 1:07:49research that question and pass on or answer that phone or any
- 1:07:55of those know, you know, putting the files together.
- 1:07:58I mean you're looking at even longer days you're looking at
- 1:08:02even more work for everybody, okay.
- 1:08:05It's not just I mean and even if you think them answering that
- 1:08:11phone every time you call is a benefit to the union.
- 1:08:15That's there if they're working on your project at and then
- 1:08:19somebody else calls in and they have to say, well, I'm working
- 1:08:22on this one project I'll get to yours as soon as I can.
- 1:08:24How many projects are they going to have to stack up while
- 1:08:27they're working on the one project for another carrier?
- 1:08:30Or how many how many projects are going to get shuffled into
- 1:08:34the pile and not taken care of for a couple years because
- 1:08:39they're one there. Now, a one man show working on
- 1:08:42it when they used to have five people, Working on different
- 1:08:45things. Yeah, the Union's do the union
- 1:08:53is us? The union is everybody.
- 1:08:56It doesn't matter if you are dues-paying or non dues-paying,
- 1:08:59we are all the rural carrier Union.
- 1:09:03We are all the voice of reason. In our offices.
- 1:09:07We are the voice of the contract.
- 1:09:09We are the voice of the rules and regulations of the post
- 1:09:12office in our office. It is our job as rural carriers,
- 1:09:18to stand up for this craft and I don't care if you are a non
- 1:09:21dues-paying member, if you see management doing something
- 1:09:24wrong, correct it and if you can't get it, corrected grieve
- 1:09:29it. It doesn't matter if your dues
- 1:09:32paying or non dues-paying as a Union steward, the Union,
- 1:09:35steward is supposed to defend you as if you are a dues-paying
- 1:09:38member, even if you're a non dues-paying member and if
- 1:09:41they're not doing that, then you report it to their assistant
- 1:09:46District rep or their your District rep or even higher up
- 1:09:50than that. But start at the lowest level,
- 1:09:53you want to solve everything at the lowest level.
- 1:09:56It's the same with grievances you saw of grievances at the
- 1:09:58lowest level possible. Sorry, but you need to start
- 1:10:03doing. Start doing your research, start
- 1:10:06learning your craft. And Excel at your craft.
- 1:10:12That's the only way we can keep going forward with this is if
- 1:10:15everyone starts looking and excelling at their craft.
- 1:10:19And sometimes, you can resolve a situation without before even
- 1:10:24having to file a grievance now in all situations, and with all
- 1:10:28management. But there are times and there
- 1:10:32are, you know, situations to where things can be resolved
- 1:10:37without having to go through that.
- 1:10:39Grievance process or example, we tomorrow morning, every regular
- 1:10:44carrier in every Subs, getting a copy of why You don't work off
- 1:10:49the clock because we had three instances of it this weekend and
- 1:10:54I'm going to write down all the names and have them initial that
- 1:10:57they received the copy of it. So that when this happens again
- 1:11:00and somebody files a grievance and I go under a class action
- 1:11:04against management, I have the ammunition to say they're aware
- 1:11:08of this, you're aware of this. Prosecuted.
- 1:11:14Because, guess what? So, it doesn't hurt my
- 1:11:17evaluation. Yes, it does.
- 1:11:19It does. So, it doesn't matter to anybody
- 1:11:21else. Yes, it does.
- 1:11:24Because the person who might bid on your route when you bit off
- 1:11:26of it, or when you retire or when you quit is going to be
- 1:11:30pissed as hell that their HR 42 instead of a j 45.
- 1:11:40So if you can eliminate that situation before becomes a
- 1:11:45grievance then do, so always take it and settle it before
- 1:11:49becomes a grievance, if possible.
- 1:11:52Well if they're RJ45 they would be a k42 when they move to that
- 1:11:55route are 4.11. Finding one closer.
- 1:11:59It'll do ya 41 41 42 somewhere in that if they're depending on
- 1:12:05the standard hour. Hours.
- 1:12:06But yeah. And that's the thing is working
- 1:12:09off the clock. I'm going to say this, my route
- 1:12:13stayed the same Now, for some ungodly reason that I can't
- 1:12:20calculate out in this 4241 em, I know that I've been working
- 1:12:26close to my evaluation every single day, not by choice, but
- 1:12:32by mail volume and package volume and things like that.
- 1:12:35And my times were practically standard except Mondays of
- 1:12:40course, heaviest day of the week, my times were pretty much
- 1:12:43fluidly near the Same time every day and I came back at the same
- 1:12:48time. The carrier, another carrier.
- 1:12:52I know who works off the clock, even comes in on their day off.
- 1:12:59Went down. Because he works off the clock.
- 1:13:04Barry. There is a reason why working
- 1:13:07off the clock is bad for you. Not just on your evaluation.
- 1:13:11It's also illegal management allowing me to do it is illegal
- 1:13:16and if something was to happen, if you were to sit in your
- 1:13:23stuff. Yeah, if you are to get injured
- 1:13:25at work, while off the clock owcp will not cover you.
- 1:13:31Yep. So if you grab you, if you grab
- 1:13:35it, grab a stack of, let's say your casing, your marriage meal
- 1:13:41for the week. You're casing it too so you can
- 1:13:44deliver it that day off the clock and you pick up one of
- 1:13:48those bundles and you pull a muscle in your back, guess what?
- 1:13:52If you are on the clock, that'd be a workplace injury but
- 1:13:55because you were off the clock. If not a workplace injury
- 1:13:59therefore you don't get the coverage of light duty at the
- 1:14:03post office. There is no light duty for rural
- 1:14:05carriers unless you're injured on the job, still limited Duty,
- 1:14:10that's still no light, light duty, at all, for Rural South.
- 1:14:13Just limited. I'm just saying and limited.
- 1:14:16Well, that's what I meant. Yeah.
- 1:14:17And limited is only for workplace injury.
- 1:14:23Yep, and if you're working off the clock and get injured, you
- 1:14:26don't get that coverage. Alright, here's another example
- 1:14:30of How working off the clock you affects you, whether you think
- 1:14:37it does or not. During the arbitration where we
- 1:14:41got. All Rex.
- 1:14:48They change the DPS standards. Yes.
- 1:14:51So is it from 30 pieces up to 42 or 20-something pizzas up to 42
- 1:14:59a minute, 43 43. Now it now it's 86.
- 1:15:09Which is ridiculous. I'd like to see dr.
- 1:15:11Miracle doing, six a minute. All right, hand after a month.
- 1:15:17I just want to know how a stop sign is only half a second win.
- 1:15:20Almost every single vote, being uniform.
- 1:15:23Transportation code, says, you need to stop at a stop sign for
- 1:15:26a minimum of two seconds. Because that's the and I found
- 1:15:32out the reasoning on this one was that they did that because
- 1:15:37most rural carriers don't even stop that long.
- 1:15:41But if they didn't put that figure in there, then they would
- 1:15:44be condoning rural carriers to drive recklessly, so they had to
- 1:15:48cover their asses. That's what I that's what I
- 1:15:52found out. Okay, that's a little more than
- 1:15:57half a half a second. Yeah.
- 1:15:59Oh, we have a carry. We call Jet, and there's a
- 1:16:05reason why we call Em. Yeah, we have one.
- 1:16:09I think it's a race between two of our carriers, and who gets
- 1:16:13back this quickest. I still, you know, the one gets
- 1:16:17up that they got back before I did.
- 1:16:20Well, I don't get it, you know, it's not a race guys.
- 1:16:23It is not a race. Yeah, we had a one of my
- 1:16:27co-workers, one of the other carriers, my office brags that
- 1:16:31she had the highest drive speed of anybody in the office.
- 1:16:38We have the money out of your pocket.
- 1:16:42Oh, but that the drive speed on the on the 4240 is actual. 4241
- 1:16:47is based on your line of travel. Yeah, the distance between your
- 1:16:51stops so having the highest speed is not a benefit to you.
- 1:16:57You have to, you have to, you have to know, you have to know
- 1:17:00her to appreciate the humor there.
- 1:17:02Oh yeah, I can imagine. Yeah, she has.
- 1:17:05She has a Lead Foot. Yeah.
- 1:17:08Yeah. You know, and it's always that
- 1:17:09one, that the truck is in getting brakes, done more often
- 1:17:13than the rest of them, because you're like, how they get
- 1:17:18through that route so fast. Well, there's a reason why that
- 1:17:21chucks, the shop. All the time.
- 1:17:24We melted melted the brakes of the rotors.
- 1:17:27Oh, well, we had one girl that used to be so fast whoever they
- 1:17:33put the jump seat and we would give somebody a neck brace to go
- 1:17:36with them. Oh yeah.
- 1:17:37They look at it. I have learned how to brace
- 1:17:43myself very well in the jump seat lately.
- 1:17:47I put I put one foot on the wall, one foot on the drape and
- 1:17:52yeah I kind of well I got I got short legs.
- 1:17:57I'm usually holding up between the two between the door and
- 1:18:00the, in the frame on the other side.
- 1:18:03Like, okay, I'm braced now. Yeah.
- 1:18:06We we actually had a ride-along that didn't, you know, brace
- 1:18:11yourself and the guy who hit the brakes and she come flying over
- 1:18:14to dash only up to the wind killed.
- 1:18:16Oh my gosh. Lord.
- 1:18:20Let me tell you. There's see how well their seat
- 1:18:23belts for a reason. Yeah.
- 1:18:26Well Use a little big to fit in the seat belt.
- 1:18:29No. All right.
- 1:18:31On that note guys, since we're kind of the wind it down.
- 1:18:34So we're not going too far over tonight.
- 1:18:38Your final thoughts for the evening there.
- 1:18:40Josh. um, just keep keep it on, do what you're supposed to do.
- 1:18:52scan what, you know, what you can legitimately take credit for
- 1:18:59Try not to get overwhelmed. Be do take a step back, step
- 1:19:03back in, or take a breath. Then step back down.
- 1:19:08Have a good week. Mike, your final commentary for
- 1:19:13this evening, it's just we've been saying it here and we've
- 1:19:22alluded to it a lot in previous podcasts and James has been
- 1:19:26talking a lot about it tonight, but but we got to stand with
- 1:19:31with each other stand with. And for each other, I said, I
- 1:19:37said a couple weeks ago and I'll say it again, you know, the very
- 1:19:40first First postmaster of the United States Postmaster,
- 1:19:43General of the United States. Benjamin Franklin said it best.
- 1:19:47You know, we have to all hang together for we will sure at
- 1:19:51least hang separately. So let's all hang together.
- 1:19:56All right, James your turn. You know, the biggest thing you
- 1:20:02can take away from these podcasts is the motivation to do
- 1:20:07better at our craft. And like Mike said, we're in
- 1:20:13this together. Thick or thin High evaluation
- 1:20:18low evaluation. It doesn't matter.
- 1:20:20We are all one craft. One group, brothers and sisters,
- 1:20:25fighting for the same thing, which is fair pay at a good job
- 1:20:30at a good benefits job. And we need you to step up with
- 1:20:37us. And be part of the change.
- 1:20:41This Union needs the change the union wants And be that member.
- 1:20:51That takes the time to understand how to better
- 1:20:54themselves in the craft because without this craft and without
- 1:21:00each, and every person in it, there is no rural carrier.
- 1:21:06Step up and help us help you. Thank you, Bill.
- 1:21:15Well, aside from my opening rant, in regards to the union
- 1:21:20non-union members. I just like to point out.
- 1:21:24The fact that my office, I represent everybody equally if
- 1:21:29Management's in the wrong. I go to bat for you, whether I
- 1:21:32like you personally or not, whether you Union or not, it
- 1:21:36doesn't matter. I'm your defense attorney, okay?
- 1:21:40And I got a bad week. A big piece of lumber because I
- 1:21:45can't stand the way management tries to bully people.
- 1:21:50So whether you're in the union or not you get the same
- 1:21:53representation from me whether I like you or not, you get the
- 1:21:56same representation because of the fact that I'm defending the
- 1:21:59craft as long as I do that job, nobody can ever say Well it
- 1:22:05still doesn't like me or we don't get along.
- 1:22:08Yeah, I don't care. I stepped set, aside all All
- 1:22:12personal likes and dislikes when it comes to defending the crack.
- 1:22:15That's what I'm paid to do. That's what I do.
- 1:22:18And Nobody Does it Better than me.
- 1:22:21I mean, I file more paperwork than the Brazilian Rainforest
- 1:22:25cut down. Okay.
- 1:22:28Yeah. Thank God for Laser Printers.
- 1:22:30I still want to get you a crown that says grievance King on it.
- 1:22:34That mean that's just my goal. But you know, it all truth
- 1:22:40folks, you know the the job will pay you for the effort you put
- 1:22:44into it. If you don't put any effort into
- 1:22:47it and you can't expect much, okay?
- 1:22:51And you're doing a disservice to yourself to your family to the
- 1:22:53craft and to the person who follows behind you and that's
- 1:22:57that's not fair. Nothing else in the world.
- 1:23:01I always try to be fair and I want everybody to get as much as
- 1:23:05possible they can out of their career.
- 1:23:08I want them to be able to go home every night safely.
- 1:23:12You're the most important delivery of the day and enjoy
- 1:23:16the efforts that you had and the opportunity that you have to
- 1:23:19provide for your family and for yourself for future.
- 1:23:23And and that future will only get better as long as you
- 1:23:27participate as long as you get involved and long as you put
- 1:23:31some effort into the opportunity presented to you.
- 1:23:36And all you have to do is reach out and grab it.
- 1:23:39That's all you have to do. If you don't know something,
- 1:23:42guess what? Ask somebody.
- 1:23:44We're right there. We're willing to help you.
- 1:23:47There's people in your office that you can't talk to.
- 1:23:49There's people in the office you can talk to and if nothing else.
- 1:23:53Else, there are plenty of websites and social media to
- 1:23:57seek, help to seek information to get educated.
- 1:24:02Put a natural jewelry. What was that?
- 1:24:08You also have, you access to your District reps and and Union
- 1:24:12Representatives aside from your office?
- 1:24:14Yes. But you know, folks make make
- 1:24:18the effort to go out. There have a good week.
- 1:24:22Be safe, yo, carrier discretion but but don't don't don't overdo
- 1:24:31it. I have to agree with everything.
- 1:24:38Everybody is said this evening. I'm just going to put the toss
- 1:24:42out there that I am going to be looking to do a series for RCA's
- 1:24:49coming up in the future. Hopefully closer than further
- 1:24:54away. I'm still in the planning
- 1:24:56process is of what I want to do for that.
- 1:24:58I'm going to reach out to those RCA's.
- 1:25:00That are listening. If you want to be involved,
- 1:25:02please send us a message. And we'll definitely I'll get
- 1:25:06back to you on that and see where we're going to go from
- 1:25:08there. But on that note, everybody have
- 1:25:12a safe Monday tomorrow and we'll be back next week.
- 1:25:18And remember, carrier discretion.
- 1:25:25Have a good night, everybody.
