Speaker 1: right now with Mike McGoffin. We're going to talk about
• 0:19
Speaker 1: a rifle raffle, which is fun to say. And this
• 0:21
Speaker 1: is a fundraiser for the American Legion, is that right?
• 0:23
Speaker 2: The American Legion is raffling off two 250th anniversary Legion
• 0:28
Speaker 2: tribute rifles as a fundraiser for the Legion. Both rifles
• 0:32
Speaker 2: are made by Henry Arms over in Wisconsin. They come
• 0:36
Speaker 2: with fully engraved receivers, and the. 22 also has a
• 0:41
Speaker 2: fully engraved forend. The. 22 caliber rifle we're raffling is
• 0:45
Speaker 2: worth a little over.
• 0:46
  Speaker 1: $ 1, 100.
• 0:47
Speaker 2: The. 44 Magnum rifle we're raffling.
• 0:49
  Speaker 1: Is worth a little over $ 1, 600.
• 0:50
Speaker 2: These rifles are 250th commemorative, so they're only being made
• 0:56
Speaker 2: this year. We are selling tickets. We Chose 1,776 tickets,
• 1:02
Speaker 2: which just kind of seemed right for this year.
• 1:04
Speaker 1: That does feel very good, yeah.
• 1:06
Speaker 2: But we are raffling. We're going to draw either when
• 1:08
Speaker 2: all the tickets are sold and we're starting to get
• 1:10
Speaker 2: down there or December 31st. After all, 250th anniversary, they've
• 1:15
Speaker 2: got to be drawn for 250th anniversary. Tickets are $ 20
• 1:18
Speaker 2: for one or three for 50. And you can get
• 1:22
Speaker 2: them at the Legion office or if some of our
• 1:25
Speaker 2: Legion members also have ticket books as well.
• 1:28
Speaker 1: Very nice. So if somebody is interested in this, they
• 1:30
Speaker 1: can buy a ticket. And I'll make sure I post
• 1:32
Speaker 1: all this information on our Facebook page as well to
• 1:34
Speaker 1: make it really easy. And the American Legion does so
• 1:36
Speaker 1: many wonderful things. What are some of the things that
• 1:38
Speaker 1: you guys are known for? Because if we mentioned everything,
• 1:40
Speaker 1: it would take a long time. But let's talk about
• 1:42
Speaker 1: some of the big things.
• 1:42
Speaker 2: We'll be here all day.
• 1:43
Speaker 1: Let's talk about some of the big things.
• 1:44
Speaker 2: Well, one of the big things we do is we
• 1:46
Speaker 2: provide military honors for deceased veterans. And the post here,
• 1:51
Speaker 2: we go out to the state cemetery, all the cemeteries
• 1:53
Speaker 2: in basically the areas surrounding Sioux Falls. We sponsor Legion Baseball.
• 1:58
Speaker 2: We've got five teams that we sponsor for that. We
• 2:01
Speaker 2: sponsor Boys State, which actually was created by the American Legion.
• 2:08
Speaker 2: The Legion Auxiliary sponsors Girls State. We sponsor shooting sports.
• 2:14
Speaker 2: Humboldt Sharpshooters are the group that really we spend a
• 2:18
Speaker 2: lot of money for. We spend a lot of time
• 2:22
Speaker 2: working with veterans and We've got a veteran service officer
• 2:26
Speaker 2: that helps veterans who run into some hard times. Maybe
• 2:29
Speaker 2: we can help them or we can point them in
• 2:31
Speaker 2: the right direction. And we also do flag etiquette over
• 2:36
Speaker 2: at the elementary schools. So we teach them why the
• 2:40
Speaker 2: flag is the way it is. We teach them how
• 2:42
Speaker 2: to fold it. And for a lot of the schools,
• 2:45
Speaker 2: the fourth and fifth graders are the ones that raise
• 2:47
Speaker 2: the flag every day at the school.
• 2:49
Speaker 1: So that's a lot of fun. That's really cool. And
• 2:51
Speaker 1: something that you've done with us every year for many,
• 2:53
Speaker 1: many years now is on the 4th of July, a
• 2:55
Speaker 1: group from the American Legion will come on to a
• 2:57
Speaker 1: flag retirement ceremony. It chokes me up every year because
• 3:00
Speaker 1: I just think it is such a beautiful thing. And
• 3:02
Speaker 1: up until we started doing that at our fireworks event,
• 3:04
Speaker 1: most people say, I had never seen that done before.
• 3:06
Speaker 1: So it's so cool for people. And there's thousands of
• 3:09
Speaker 1: people there. They get a chance to see you guys
• 3:10
Speaker 1: do that. Yes, it is.
• 3:11
Speaker 2: It's really nice there. Plus, on Flag Day, we also
• 3:15
Speaker 2: do a retirement ceremony over at Veterans Park.
• 3:17
Speaker 1: I got to be a part of that this year
• 3:19
Speaker 1: as well. It was wonderful. So, Mike, thank you for
• 3:20
Speaker 1: all that you do. And let's remind people, if they
• 3:22
Speaker 1: want to get a ticket, it's the Rifle Raffle, which
• 3:25
Speaker 1: I love to say. How do I get a ticket
• 3:26
Speaker 1: for the Rifle Raffle?
• 3:27
Speaker 2: If you want a ticket for the Rifle Raffle, either
• 3:30
Speaker 2: one for $ 20 or three for $ 50. Contact the Legion office,
• 3:34
Speaker 2: or if you know a Legion member, they can put
• 3:36
Speaker 2: you in touch with the people who have the tickets.
• 3:38
Speaker 1: Very nice. And if you struggle, reach out to me
• 3:40
Speaker 1: at the station. I'll get you in touch with the
• 3:41
Speaker 1: right person. Mike, thank you, sir. You're quite welcome. And
• 3:44
Speaker 1: I do have a link to all of the information.
• 3:45
  Speaker 1: There's a beautiful poster. I got a photo of that
• 3:47
Speaker 1: on our Facebook page, facebook.com slash sunnyradio and facebook.com slash
• 3:53
