Speaker 1: Acting in a certain way. Thought is the creative power,
• 0:04
Speaker 1: or the impelling force, which causes the creative power to act.
• 0:08
Speaker 1: Thinking in a certain way will bring riches to you.
• 0:10
Speaker 1: But you must not rely upon thought alone, paying no
• 0:13
Speaker 1: attention to personal action. That is the rock upon which
• 0:17
Speaker 1: many otherwise scientific metaphysical thinkers meet shipwreck, the failure to
• 0:22
Speaker 1: connect thought with personal action. We have not yet reached
• 0:26
Speaker 1: the state of development. Even supposing such a stage to
• 0:29
Speaker 1: be possible, in which man can create directly from formers substance,
• 0:33
Speaker 1: without nature's processes or the work of human hands, man
• 0:37
Speaker 1: must not only think, but his personal action must supplement
• 0:41
Speaker 1: his thought by thought. You can cause the gold in
• 0:44
Speaker 1: the hearts of the mountains to be impelled toward you,
• 0:47
Speaker 1: but it will not mine itself, refine itself, coin itself
• 0:51
Speaker 1: into double eagles, and come rolling along the roads seeking
• 0:55
Speaker 1: its way into your pocket. Under the impelling power of
• 0:58
Speaker 1: the supreme spirit, man's affairs will be so ordered that
• 1:02
Speaker 1: someone will be led to mind the gold for you.
• 1:05
Speaker 1: Other men's business transactions will be so directed that the
• 1:08
Speaker 1: gold will be brought toward you. And you must so
• 1:11
Speaker 1: arrange your own business affairs that you may be able
• 1:14
Speaker 1: to receive it when it comes to you. Your thought
• 1:17
Speaker 1: makes all things animate and inanimate work to bring you
• 1:21
Speaker 1: what you want. But your personal activity must be such
• 1:24
Speaker 1: that you can rightly receive what you want when it
• 1:26
Speaker 1: reaches you. You are not to take it as charity,
• 1:30
Speaker 1: nor to steal it. You must give every man more
• 1:33
Speaker 1: in news value than he gives you in cash value.
• 1:36
Speaker 1: The scientific use of thought consists in forming a clear
• 1:39
Speaker 1: and distinct mental image of what you want, in holding
• 1:43
Speaker 1: fast to the purpose to get what you want, and
• 1:45
Speaker 1: in realizing with grateful faith that you do get what
• 1:48
Speaker 1: you want. Do not try to project your thought in
• 1:52
Speaker 1: any mysterious or occult way with the idea of having
• 1:55
Speaker 1: it go out and do things for you. That is
• 1:58
Speaker 1: wasted effort and will weaken your to think with sanity.
• 2:02
Speaker 1: The action of thought in getting rich is fully explained
• 2:05
Speaker 1: in the preceding chapters. Your faith and purpose positively impress
• 2:09
Speaker 1: your vision upon formers substance which has the same desire
• 2:12
Speaker 1: for more life that you have, And this vision received
• 2:15
Speaker 1: from you, sets all the creative forces at work in
• 2:18
Speaker 1: and through their regular channels of action, but direct it
• 2:21
Speaker 1: toward you. It is not your part to guide or
• 2:24
Speaker 1: supervise the creative process. All you have to do with
• 2:27
Speaker 1: that is to retain your vision, to stick to your purpose,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: and maintain your faith and gratitude. But you must act
• 2:34
Speaker 1: in a certain way so that you can appropriate what
• 2:37
Speaker 1: is yours when it comes to you, so that you
• 2:39
Speaker 1: can meet the things you have in your picture and
• 2:42
Speaker 1: put them in their proper places as they arrive. You
• 2:45
Speaker 1: can really see the truth of this. When things reach you,
• 2:48
Speaker 1: they will be in the hands of other men who
• 2:51
Speaker 1: will ask an equivalent for them, And you can only
• 2:54
Speaker 1: get what is yours by giving the other man what
• 2:56
Speaker 1: is his. Your pocket book is not going to be
• 2:59
Speaker 1: trans formed into afford to not asperse, which shall be
• 3:02
Speaker 1: always full of money without effort on your part. This
• 3:05
Speaker 1: is a crucial point in the science of getting rich
• 3:08
Speaker 1: right here, when thought and personal action must be combined.
• 3:12
Speaker 1: There are very many people who consciously or unconsciously set
• 3:15
Speaker 1: the creative forces in action by the strength and persistence
• 3:19
Speaker 1: of their desires, but who remain poor because they do
• 3:22
Speaker 1: not provide for the reception of the thing they want
• 3:24
Speaker 1: when it comes by thought. The thing you want is
• 3:28
Speaker 1: brought to you by action, you receive it. Whatever your
• 3:32
Speaker 1: action is to be it is evident that you must
• 3:35
Speaker 1: act now. You cannot act in the past, and it
• 3:38
Speaker 1: is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that
• 3:41
Speaker 1: you dismiss the past from your mind. You cannot act
• 3:44
Speaker 1: in the future, for the future is not here yet,
• 3:47
Speaker 1: and you cannot tell how you will want to act
• 3:49
Speaker 1: in any future contingency until that contingency has arrived. Because
• 3:54
Speaker 1: you are not in the right business or the right
• 3:56
Speaker 1: environment now. Do not think that you must postpone action
• 3:59
Speaker 1: until you get into the right business or environment. And
• 4:03
Speaker 1: do not spend time in the present taking thought as
• 4:05
Speaker 1: to the best course impossible future emergencies. Have faith in
• 4:09
Speaker 1: your ability to meet any emergency when it arrives. If
• 4:13
Speaker 1: you act in the present with your mind on the future,
• 4:16
Speaker 1: your present action will be with a divided mind and
• 4:19
Speaker 1: will not be effective. Put your whole mind into present action.
• 4:24
Speaker 1: Do not give your creative impulse to original substance and
• 4:27
Speaker 1: then sit down and wait for results. If you do,
• 4:31
Speaker 1: you will never get them. Act now. There is never
• 4:34
Speaker 1: any time but now, and there never will be any
• 4:37
Speaker 1: time but now. If you are ever to begin to
• 4:40
Speaker 1: make ready for the reception of what you want, you
• 4:42
Speaker 1: must begin now, and your action, whatever it is must
• 4:46
Speaker 1: most likely be in your present business or employment, and
• 4:49
Speaker 1: must be upon the persons and things in your present environment.
• 4:53
Speaker 1: You cannot act where you are not You cannot act
• 4:56
Speaker 1: where you have been, and you cannot act where you
• 4:59
Speaker 1: are going to be. You can act only where you are.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: Do not bother as to whether yesterday's work was well
• 5:05
Speaker 1: done or ill done. Do to day's work well. Do
• 5:09
Speaker 1: not try to do to morrow's work now. There will
• 5:12
Speaker 1: be plenty of time to do that when you get
• 5:14
Speaker 1: to it. Do not try by accult or mystical means
• 5:17
Speaker 1: to act on people or things that are out of
• 5:20
Speaker 1: your reach. Do not wait for a change of environment
• 5:23
Speaker 1: before you act. Get a change of environment by action.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: You can so act upon the environment in which you
• 5:30
Speaker 1: are now as to cause yourself to be transferred to
• 5:32
Speaker 1: a better environment. Hold with faith and purpose the vision
• 5:36
Speaker 1: of yourself in the better environment. But act upon your
• 5:39
Speaker 1: present environment with all your heart, and with all your strength,
• 5:43
Speaker 1: and with all your mind. Do not spend any time
• 5:46
Speaker 1: in day dreaming or castle building. Hold to the one
• 5:49
Speaker 1: vision of what you want and act now. Do not
• 5:53
Speaker 1: cast about seeking some new thing to do, or some strange,
• 5:56
Speaker 1: unusual or remarkable action to perform as a first step
• 5:59
Speaker 1: to getting rich. It is probable that your actions, at
• 6:03
Speaker 1: least for some time to come, will be those you
• 6:05
Speaker 1: have been performing for some time past. But you are
• 6:08
Speaker 1: to begin now to perform these actions in a certain way,
• 6:12
Speaker 1: which will surely make you rich. If you are engaged
• 6:15
Speaker 1: in some business and feel that it is not the
• 6:18
Speaker 1: right one for you, do not wait until you get
• 6:20
Speaker 1: into the right business before you begin to act. Do
• 6:23
Speaker 1: not feel discouraged or sit down and lament because you
• 6:26
Speaker 1: are misplaced. No man was ever so misplaced but that
• 6:30
Speaker 1: he could not find the right place. And no man
• 6:33
Speaker 1: ever became so involved in the wrong business, but that
• 6:35
Speaker 1: he could get into the right business. Hold the vision
• 6:39
Speaker 1: of yourself in the right business, with the purpose to
• 6:41
Speaker 1: get into it, and the faith that you will get
• 6:44
Speaker 1: into it and are getting into it. But act in
• 6:47
Speaker 1: your present business. Use your present business as the means
• 6:51
Speaker 1: of getting a better one, and use your present environment
• 6:54
Speaker 1: as the means of getting into a better one. Your
• 6:57
Speaker 1: vision of the right business, if held with faith them perpose,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: will cause the Supreme to move the right business toward you.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: And your action, if be formed in a certain way,
• 7:06
Speaker 1: will cause you to move toward the business. If you
• 7:09
Speaker 1: are an employee or wage earner and feel that you
• 7:13
Speaker 1: must change places in order to get what you want,
• 7:15
Speaker 1: do not project your thought into space and rely upon
• 7:18
Speaker 1: it to get you another job. It will probably fail
• 7:21
Speaker 1: to do so. Hold a vision of yourself in the
• 7:24
Speaker 1: job you want, while you act with faith and purpose
• 7:27
Speaker 1: on the job you have, and you will certainly get
• 7:30
Speaker 1: the job you want. Your vision and faith will set
• 7:33
Speaker 1: the creative force in motion to bring it toward you,
• 7:36
Speaker 1: and your action will cause the forces in your own
• 7:38
Speaker 1: environment to move you toward the place you want. In
• 7:41
Speaker 1: closing this chapter, we will add another statement to our syllabus.
• 7:46
Speaker 1: There is a thinking stuff from it all things are made,
• 7:49
Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and feels
• 7:53
Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
• 7:57
Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
• 8:01
Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
• 8:04
Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks
• 8:07
Speaker 1: about to be created. In order to do this, man
• 8:11
Speaker 1: must pass from the competitive to the creative mind. He
• 8:14
Speaker 1: must form a clear mental picture of the thing he
• 8:16
Speaker 1: wants and hold this picture in his thoughts with the
• 8:19
Speaker 1: fixed purpose to get what he wants, and the amavoring
• 8:22
Speaker 1: faith that he does get what he wants, closing his
• 8:25
Speaker 1: mind to all that may tend to shake his purpose,
• 8:28
Speaker 1: dim his vision, or quench his faith, that he may
• 8:31
Speaker 1: receive what he wants when it comes. Man must act
• 8:34
Speaker 1: now upon the people and things in his present environment
• 8:38
Speaker 1: efficient action. He must use your thought as directed in
• 8:42
Speaker 1: previous chapters and begin to do what you can do
• 8:45
Speaker 1: where you are. And you must do all that you
• 8:47
Speaker 1: can do where you are. You can advance only by
• 8:50
Speaker 1: being larger than your present place. And no man is
• 8:53
Speaker 1: larger than his present place who leaves undone any of
• 8:56
Speaker 1: the work pertaining to that place. The world is advanced
• 9:00
Speaker 1: only by those who more than feel their present places.
• 9:04
Speaker 1: If no man quiet filled his present place, you can
• 9:07
Speaker 1: see that there must be a going backward in everything.
• 9:10
Speaker 1: Those who do not quiet feel their places or dead
• 9:13
Speaker 1: with upon society, government, commerce, and industry, they must be
• 9:17
Speaker 1: carried along by others at a great expense. The progress
• 9:21
Speaker 1: of the world is retarded only by those who do
• 9:23
Speaker 1: not feel the places they are holding. They belong to
• 9:26
Speaker 1: a former age and a lower stage or plane of life,
• 9:30
Speaker 1: and their tendency is toward the generation. No society could
• 9:33
Speaker 1: advance if every man was smaller than his place. Social
• 9:37
Speaker 1: evolution is guided by the law of physical and mental evolution.
• 9:41
Speaker 1: In the animal world, evolution is caused by excess of life.
• 9:45
Speaker 1: When an organism has more life than can be expressed
• 9:48
Speaker 1: in the functions of its own plane, it develops the
• 9:51
Speaker 1: organs of a higher plane, and a new species is originated.
• 9:55
Speaker 1: There never would have been new species had there not
• 9:58
Speaker 1: been organisms which more than feel their places. The law
• 10:02
Speaker 1: is exactly the same for you. You are getting rich
• 10:05
Speaker 1: depends upon your applying this principle to your own affairs.
• 10:09
Speaker 1: Every day is either a successful day or a day
• 10:11
Speaker 1: of failure, and it is the successful days which get
• 10:14
Speaker 1: you what you want. If every day is a failure,
• 10:17
Speaker 1: you can never get rich, while if every day is
• 10:20
Speaker 1: a success, you cannot fail to get rich. If there
• 10:24
Speaker 1: is something that may be done to day and you
• 10:26
Speaker 1: do not do it, you have failed in so far
• 10:28
Speaker 1: as that thing is concerned, and the consequences may be
• 10:32
Speaker 1: more disastrous than you can imagine. You cannot foresee the
• 10:36
Speaker 1: results of even the most trivial act. You do not
• 10:39
Speaker 1: know the workings of all the forces that have been
• 10:41
Speaker 1: set moving in your behalf. Much may be depending on
• 10:44
Speaker 1: your doing some simple act. It may be the very
• 10:47
Speaker 1: thing which is to open the door of opportunity to
• 10:49
Speaker 1: weary great possibilities. You can never know all the combinations
• 10:53
Speaker 1: which supreme intelligence is making for you in the world
• 10:56
Speaker 1: of things, and of things and of human affairs. You
• 10:59
Speaker 1: are neglect or failure to do some small things may
• 11:02
Speaker 1: cause a long delay in getting what you want do
• 11:06
Speaker 1: every day all that can be done that day. There is, however,
• 11:10
Speaker 1: a limitation or qualification of the above, that you must
• 11:13
Speaker 1: take into account. You are not to overwork, nor to
• 11:17
Speaker 1: rush blindly into your business in the effort to do
• 11:19
Speaker 1: the greatest possible number of things in the shortest possible time.
• 11:24
Speaker 1: You are not to try to do tomorrow's work to day,
• 11:26
Speaker 1: nor to do a week's work in a day. It
• 11:29
Speaker 1: is really not the number of things you do, but
• 11:31
Speaker 1: the efficiency of each separate action that counts. Every act
• 11:35
Speaker 1: is in itself either a success or a failure. Every
• 11:39
Speaker 1: act is in itself either effective or inefficient. Every inefficient
• 11:44
Speaker 1: act is a failure. And if you spend your life
• 11:47
Speaker 1: in doing inefficient acts, your whole life will be a failure.
• 11:51
Speaker 1: The more things you do. The worse is for you
• 11:54
Speaker 1: if all your acts are inefficient ones. On the other hand,
• 11:58
Speaker 1: every efficient act is a success in itself, and if
• 12:01
Speaker 1: every act of your life is an efficient one, your
• 12:04
Speaker 1: whole life must be a success. The cause of failure
• 12:08
Speaker 1: is doing too many things in an inefficient manner and
• 12:11
Speaker 1: not doing enough things in an efficient manner. You will
• 12:14
Speaker 1: see that it is a self evident proposition that if
• 12:17
Speaker 1: you do not do any inefficient acts, and if you
• 12:20
Speaker 1: do a sufficient number of efficient acts, you will become rich.
• 12:25
Speaker 1: If now it is possible for you to make each
• 12:27
Speaker 1: act an efficient one, you see again that the getting
• 12:30
Speaker 1: of riches is reduced to an exact science, like mathematics.
• 12:35
Speaker 1: The matter turns then on the questions whether you can
• 12:38
Speaker 1: make each separate act success in itself, and this you
• 12:41
Speaker 1: can certainly do. You can make each act a success
• 12:45
Speaker 1: because all power is working with you, and all power
• 12:48
Speaker 1: cannot fail. Power is at your service, and to make
• 12:52
Speaker 1: each act efficient you have only to put power into it.
• 12:56
Speaker 1: Every action is either strong or weak, and when everyone
• 12:59
Speaker 1: is strong, you are acting in a certain way which
• 13:02
Speaker 1: will make you rich. Every act can be made strong
• 13:05
Speaker 1: and efficient by holding your vision while you are doing it.
• 13:08
Speaker 1: And putting the whole power of your faith and purpose
• 13:11
Speaker 1: into it. It is at this point that people fail
• 13:14
Speaker 1: to separate mental power from personal action. They use the
• 13:18
Speaker 1: power of mind in one place and at one time,
• 13:21
Speaker 1: and they act in another place and at another time.
• 13:24
Speaker 1: So their acts are not successful in themselves. Too many
• 13:27
Speaker 1: of them are inefficient. But if all power goes into
• 13:31
Speaker 1: every act, no matter how commonplace, every act will be
• 13:34
Speaker 1: a success in itself. And as in the nature of things,
• 13:37
Speaker 1: every success opens the way to other successes. Your progress
• 13:41
Speaker 1: toward what you want and the progress of what you
• 13:43
Speaker 1: want toward you will become increasingly rapid. Remember that successful
• 13:48
Speaker 1: action is cumulative in its results, since the desire for
• 13:52
Speaker 1: more life is inherent in all things. When a man
• 13:55
Speaker 1: begins to move toward larger life, more things attach themselves
• 13:59
Speaker 1: to him, and the influence of his desire is multiplied.
• 14:03
Speaker 1: Do every day all that you can do that day,
• 14:06
Speaker 1: and do each act in an efficient manner. In saying
• 14:09
Speaker 1: that you must hold your vision while you are doing
• 14:11
Speaker 1: each act, however trivial or commonplace, I do not mean
• 14:15
Speaker 1: to say that it is necessary at all times to
• 14:18
Speaker 1: see the vision distinctly to all its smallest details. It
• 14:21
Speaker 1: should be the work of your leisure hours to use
• 14:24
Speaker 1: your imagination on the details of your vision, and to
• 14:27
Speaker 1: contemplate them until they are firmly fixed upon memory. If
• 14:31
Speaker 1: you wish speedier results, spend practically or your spare time
• 14:34
Speaker 1: in this practice. By continuous contemplation, you will get the
• 14:38
Speaker 1: picture of what you want, even to the smallest details,
• 14:42
Speaker 1: so firmly fixed upon your mind, and so completely transfer
• 14:45
Speaker 1: to the mind of formless substance, that in your working
• 14:48
Speaker 1: hours you need only to mentally refer to the picture
• 14:51
Speaker 1: to stimulate your faith and purpose and cause your best
• 14:54
Speaker 1: effort to be put forth. Contemplate your picture in your
• 14:57
Speaker 1: leisure hours until your consciousness is so full of that
• 15:01
Speaker 1: that you can grasp it instantly. You will become so
• 15:04
Speaker 1: enthused in its bright promises that the mere thought of
• 15:07
Speaker 1: it will call forth the strongest energies of your whole being.
• 15:11
Speaker 1: Let us again repeat our syllabus, and, by slightly changing
• 15:15
Speaker 1: the closing statements, bring it to the point we have
• 15:17
Speaker 1: now reached. There is a thinking stuff from which all
• 15:21
Speaker 1: things are made, and which in its original state permits, penetrates,
• 15:25
Speaker 1: and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought in
• 15:29
Speaker 1: this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.
• 15:33
Speaker 1: Man can form things in his thought, and by impressing
• 15:36
Speaker 1: his thought upon foreigners, substance can cause the thing he
• 15:39
Speaker 1: thinks about to be created. In order to do this,
• 15:43
Speaker 1: man must pass from the competitive to the creative mind.
• 15:46
Speaker 1: He must form a clear mental picture of the things
• 15:49
Speaker 1: he wants, and do with faith and purpose all that
• 15:52
Speaker 1: can be done each day, doing each separate thing in
• 15:55
Speaker 1: an efficient manner, further use of the will. You cannot
• 16:00
Speaker 1: retain a true and clear vision of wealth if you
• 16:03
Speaker 1: are constantly turning your attention to opposing pictures, whether they
• 16:06
Speaker 1: be external or imaginary. Do not tell of your past
• 16:10
Speaker 1: troubles of a financial nature. If you have had them,
• 16:13
Speaker 1: do not think of them at all. Do not tell
• 16:16
Speaker 1: of the poverty of your parents or the hardships of
• 16:18
Speaker 1: your early life. To do any of these things is
• 16:21
Speaker 1: to mentally class yourself with the poor for the time being,
• 16:25
Speaker 1: and it will certainly check the movement of things in
• 16:27
Speaker 1: your direction. Let the dead bury their dead, as Jesus said,
• 16:33
Speaker 1: put poverty in all things that pertain to poverty completely
• 16:36
Speaker 1: behind you. You have accepted a certain theory of the
• 16:39
Speaker 1: universe's being correct, and are resting all your hopes of
• 16:42
Speaker 1: happiness on its being correct. And what can you gain
• 16:45
Speaker 1: by giving heed to conflicting theories? Do not read religious
• 16:50
Speaker 1: books which tell you that the Word is soon coming
• 16:52
Speaker 1: to an end, And do not read the writing of
• 16:55
Speaker 1: mackrackers and pessimistic philosophers who tell you that it is
• 16:58
Speaker 1: going to the devil. The world is not going to
• 17:01
Speaker 1: the devil. It is going to God. It is wonderful
• 17:04
Speaker 1: becoming true. There may be a good many things in
• 17:07
Speaker 1: existing conditions which are disagreeable, But what is the use
• 17:11
Speaker 1: of studying them when they are certainly passing away? And
• 17:14
Speaker 1: when the study of them only tends to check their
• 17:16
Speaker 1: passing and keep them with us. Why give time and
• 17:19
Speaker 1: attention to things which are being removed by evolutionary growth
• 17:23
Speaker 1: when you can hasten their removal only by promoting the
• 17:26
Speaker 1: evolutionary growth as far as your part of it goes.
• 17:29
Speaker 1: No matter how horrible in seeming may be the conditions
• 17:32
Speaker 1: in certain countries, sections, or places, you waste your time
• 17:36
Speaker 1: and destroy your own chances by considering them. You should
• 17:39
Speaker 1: interest yourself in the words becoming rich. Think of the
• 17:44
Speaker 1: riches the world is coming into, instead of the poverty
• 17:47
Speaker 1: it is growing out of. And bear in mind that
• 17:50
Speaker 1: the only way in which you can assist the world
• 17:52
Speaker 1: in growing rich is by growing rich yourself through the
• 17:55
Speaker 1: creative method, not the competitive one. Give your attention wholly
• 17:59
Speaker 1: to the rich, ignore poverty. Whenever you think or speak
• 18:04
Speaker 1: of those who are poor, Think and speak of them
• 18:06
Speaker 1: as those who are becoming rich, as those who are
• 18:09
Speaker 1: to be congratulated rather than pitied. Then they and others
• 18:13
Speaker 1: will catch the inspiration and begin to search for the
• 18:16
Speaker 1: way out. Because I say that you are to give
• 18:19
Speaker 1: your whole time and mind and thought to riches, it
• 18:22
Speaker 1: does not follow that you are to be sordid or mean.
• 18:26
Speaker 1: To become really rich is the noblest aim you can
• 18:28
Speaker 1: have in life, for it includes everything else. On the
• 18:32
Speaker 1: competitive plane, the struggle to get rich is a godless
• 18:35
Speaker 1: crumble for power over other men. But when we come
• 18:38
Speaker 1: into the creative mind, all this is changed. All that
• 18:42
Speaker 1: is possible in the way of greatness and soul, unfallment
• 18:45
Speaker 1: of service and lofty endeavor comes by way of getting rich.
• 18:49
Speaker 1: All is made possible by the use of things. If
• 18:52
Speaker 1: you lack for physical health, you will find that the
• 18:55
Speaker 1: attainment of it is conditional. On your getting rich. Only
• 18:59
Speaker 1: those who are a man cipated from financial worry and
• 19:02
Speaker 1: to have the means to leave a care free existence
• 19:04
Speaker 1: and follow hygienic practices, can have and retain health. Moral
• 19:08
Speaker 1: and spiritual greatness is possible only to those who are
• 19:11
Speaker 1: above the competitive battle of existence, and only those who
• 19:15
Speaker 1: are becoming rich on the plane of creative thought are
• 19:18
Speaker 1: free from degrading influences of competition. If your heart is
• 19:22
Speaker 1: set on domestic happiness, remember that love flourishes best where
• 19:25
Speaker 1: there is refinement, a high level of thought, and freedom
• 19:29
Speaker 1: from corrupting influences. And these are to be found only
• 19:32
Speaker 1: where riches are attained by the exercise of creative thought.
• 19:35
Speaker 1: Without strife or rivalry. You can aim at nothing so
• 19:39
Speaker 1: great or noble. I repeat as to become rich, and
• 19:42
Speaker 1: you must fix your attention upon your mental picture of riches,
• 19:45
Speaker 1: to the exclusion of all that may tend to dim
• 19:48
Speaker 1: or obscure the vision. You must learn to see the
• 19:51
Speaker 1: underlying truth in all things. You must see beneath all
• 19:54
Speaker 1: seemingly wrong conditions to great one life ever, moving forward
• 19:58
Speaker 1: toward fuller expression and more complete happiness. It is the
• 20:03
Speaker 1: truth that there is no such thing as poverty, that
• 20:06
Speaker 1: there is only wealth. Some people remain in poverty because
• 20:10
Speaker 1: they are ignorant of the fact that there is wealth
• 20:12
Speaker 1: for them, And these can be best taught by showing
• 20:14
Speaker 1: them the way of affluence in your own person and practice.
• 20:18
Speaker 1: Others are poor because while they feel that there is
• 20:21
Speaker 1: a way out, they are too intellectually indolent to put
• 20:24
Speaker 1: forth the mental effort necessary to find that way and
• 20:27
Speaker 1: by travel it. And for these the very best thing
• 20:30
Speaker 1: you can do is to arouse their desire by showing
• 20:33
Speaker 1: them the happiness that comes from being rightly rich. Others
• 20:37
Speaker 1: still are poor because while they have some notion of science,
• 20:40
Speaker 1: they have become so swamped and lost in the maze
• 20:43
Speaker 1: of metaphysical and occult theories that they do not know
• 20:46
Speaker 1: which road to take. They try a mixture of many
• 20:49
Speaker 1: systems and fail in all. For these, again, the very
• 20:52
Speaker 1: best thing to do is to show the right way
• 20:55
Speaker 1: in your own person and practice. An ounce of doing
• 20:58
Speaker 1: things is worth a pound of theorizing the very best
• 21:02
Speaker 1: thing you can do for the whole world is to
• 21:04
Speaker 1: make the most of yourself. You can serve God and
• 21:07
Speaker 1: man in no more effective way than by getting rich.
• 21:10
Speaker 1: That is, if you get rich by the creative method
• 21:13
Speaker 1: and not by the competitive one. Another thing, we assert
• 21:17
Speaker 1: that this book gives in detail the principles of the
• 21:19
Speaker 1: science of getting rich, and if that is true, you
• 21:22
Speaker 1: do not need to read any other book upon the subject.
• 21:25
Speaker 1: This may sound narrow and egoistical, but consider there is
• 21:29
Speaker 1: no more scientific method of computation and mathematics than by addition, substruction, multiplication,
• 21:35
Speaker 1: and division. No other method is possible. There can be
• 21:39
Speaker 1: but one shortest distance between two points. There is only
• 21:43
Speaker 1: one way to think scientifically, and that is to think
• 21:46
Speaker 1: in the way that leads to the most direct and
• 21:48
Speaker 1: simple route to the goal. No man has yet formulated
• 21:51
Speaker 1: a briefer or less complex system than the one set
• 21:55
Speaker 1: forth here in. It has been stripped of all non essentials.
• 21:59
Speaker 1: When you come out on this lay all others aside.
• 22:02
Speaker 1: Put them out of your mind altogether. Read this book
• 22:06
Speaker 1: every day, keep it with you, commit it to memory,
• 22:09
Speaker 1: and do not think about other systems and theories. If
• 22:12
Speaker 1: you do, you will begin to have doubts and to
• 22:15
Speaker 1: be uncertain and wavering in your thought, and then you
• 22:18
Speaker 1: will begin to make failures. After you have made good
• 22:22
Speaker 1: and become rich, you may study other systems as much
• 22:25
Speaker 1: as you please, but until you are quite sure that
• 22:27
Speaker 1: you have gained what you want, do not read anything
• 22:30
Speaker 1: on this line but this book unless it be the
• 22:33
Speaker 1: authors mentioned in the preface, and read only the most
• 22:36
Speaker 1: optimistic commands on the words news. Those in harmony with
• 22:40
Speaker 1: your picture also postpone your investigations into the occult. Do
• 22:46
Speaker 1: not dabble in theosophy, spiritualism, or kindred studies. It is
• 22:50
Speaker 1: very likely that the dead still live and are near.
• 22:54
Speaker 1: But if they are, let them alone. Mind your own business.
• 22:58
Speaker 1: Wherever the spirits of the dead may be, they have
• 23:00
Speaker 1: their own work to do and their own problems to solve,
• 23:04
Speaker 1: and we have no right to interfere with them. We
• 23:06
Speaker 1: cannot help them, and it is very doubtful whether they
• 23:09
Speaker 1: can help us, or whether we have any right to
• 23:11
Speaker 1: trespass upon their time. If they can, let the dead
• 23:15
Speaker 1: and the hereafter alone and solve your own problem, get rich.
• 23:19
Speaker 1: If you begin to mix with de occult, you will
• 23:22
Speaker 1: start mental cross currents, which will surely bring your hopes
• 23:25
Speaker 1: to shipwreck. Now these and the preceding chapters have brought
• 23:29
Speaker 1: us to the following statement of the basic facts. There
• 23:33
Speaker 1: is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
• 23:35
Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and fills
• 23:39
Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
• 23:43
Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
• 23:47
Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
• 23:50
Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks
• 23:53
Speaker 1: about to be created. In order to do this, man
• 23:57
Speaker 1: must pass from the competitive to the creative. He must
• 24:01
Speaker 1: form a clear mental picture of the things he wants,
• 24:03
Speaker 1: and hold his picture in his thoughts with the fixed
• 24:06
Speaker 1: purpose to get what he wants, and their waving faith
• 24:09
Speaker 1: that he does get what he wants, closing his mind
• 24:12
Speaker 1: against all that may tend to shake his purpose, dim
• 24:15
Speaker 1: his vision, or quench his faith. And in addition to
• 24:18
Speaker 1: all this, we shall now see that he must live
• 24:21
Speaker 1: and act in a certain way getting into the right business.
• 24:27
Speaker 1: Success in any particular business depends for one thing, upon
• 24:31
Speaker 1: your possessing in a well developed state. The faculty is
• 24:33
Speaker 1: required in that business. Without good musical faculty, no one
• 24:38
Speaker 1: can succeed as a teacher of music. Without well developed
• 24:41
Speaker 1: mechanical faculties. No one can achieve great success in any
• 24:44
Speaker 1: of the mechanical trades without tact and the commercial faculties.
• 24:49
Speaker 1: No one can succeed in mercantile pursuits, but to possess
• 24:52
Speaker 1: in a well developed state. The faculties required in your
• 24:55
Speaker 1: particular vocation does not ensure getting rich. There are musicians
• 25:00
Speaker 1: you have remarkable talent, and who yet remain poor. There
• 25:03
Speaker 1: are blacksmiths, carpenters, and so on who have excellent mechanical ability,
• 25:08
Speaker 1: but who do not get rich. And there are merchants
• 25:11
Speaker 1: with good faculties for dealing with men who nevertheless fail.
• 25:15
Speaker 1: The different faculties are tools. It is essential to have
• 25:18
Speaker 1: good tools, but it is also essential that the tools
• 25:21
Speaker 1: should be used in the right way. One man can
• 25:24
Speaker 1: take a sharp saw, a square, a good plane, and
• 25:28
Speaker 1: so on, and build a handsome article of furniture. Another
• 25:31
Speaker 1: man can take the same tools and set to work
• 25:34
Speaker 1: to duplicate the article, but his production will be a botch.
• 25:38
Speaker 1: He does not know how to use good tools in
• 25:41
Speaker 1: a successful way. The various faculties of your mind are
• 25:45
Speaker 1: the tools with which you must do the work which
• 25:47
Speaker 1: is to make you rich. It will be easier for
• 25:50
Speaker 1: you to succeed if you get into a business for
• 25:52
Speaker 1: which you are well equipped with mental tools. Generally speaking,
• 25:56
Speaker 1: you will do best in that business which will use
• 25:59
Speaker 1: your strongest faculty, is the one for which you are
• 26:02
Speaker 1: naturally best fitted. But there are limitations to this statement. Also,
• 26:06
Speaker 1: no man should regard his vocation as being irrevocably fixed
• 26:10
Speaker 1: by the tendencies with which he was born. You can
• 26:13
Speaker 1: get rich in any business, for if you have not
• 26:15
Speaker 1: the right talent, you can develop that talent. It merely
• 26:19
Speaker 1: means that you will have to make your tools as
• 26:21
Speaker 1: you go along, instead of confining yourself to the use
• 26:25
Speaker 1: of those with which you were born. It will be
• 26:27
Speaker 1: easier for you to succeed in a vocation for which
• 26:30
Speaker 1: you already have the talents in a well developed state.
• 26:33
Speaker 1: But you can succeed in any vocation, for you can
• 26:36
Speaker 1: develop any rudimentary talent, and there is no talent of
• 26:39
Speaker 1: which you have not at least the rudiment. You will
• 26:42
Speaker 1: get rich most easily in point of effort if you
• 26:45
Speaker 1: do that for which you are best fitted. But you
• 26:48
Speaker 1: will get rich most satisfactory if you do that which
• 26:51
Speaker 1: you want to do. Doing what you want to do
• 26:54
Speaker 1: is life, and there is no real satisfaction in living.
• 26:57
Speaker 1: If we are compelled to be forever doing something which
• 27:00
Speaker 1: we do not like to do and can never do
• 27:02
Speaker 1: what we want to do. And it is certain that
• 27:05
Speaker 1: you can do what you want to do. The desire
• 27:07
Speaker 1: to do it is proof that you have within you
• 27:09
Speaker 1: the power which can do it. Desire is a manifestation
• 27:13
Speaker 1: of power. The desire to play music is the power
• 27:16
Speaker 1: which can play music, seeking expression and development. The desire
• 27:20
Speaker 1: to invent mechanical devices is the mechanical talent seeking expression
• 27:24
Speaker 1: and development. Where there is no power, either developed or undeveloped,
• 27:28
Speaker 1: to do a thing, there is never any desire to
• 27:31
Speaker 1: do that thing, And where there is strong desire to
• 27:34
Speaker 1: do a thing, it is certain proof that the power
• 27:36
Speaker 1: to do it is strong and only requires to be
• 27:39
Speaker 1: developed and applied in the right way, all things else
• 27:43
Speaker 1: being equal. It is best to select the business for
• 27:46
Speaker 1: which you have the best developed talent. But if you
• 27:49
Speaker 1: have a strong desire to engage in any particular line
• 27:51
Speaker 1: of work, you should select that work as the ultimate
• 27:54
Speaker 1: end at which you aim. You can do what you
• 27:57
Speaker 1: want to do, and it is your right and privilege
• 28:00
Speaker 1: to follow the business or avocation which will be most
• 28:03
Speaker 1: congenial and pleasant. You are not obliged to do what
• 28:07
Speaker 1: you do not like to do, and you should not
• 28:09
Speaker 1: do it except as the means to bring you to
• 28:11
Speaker 1: the doing of the thing you want to do. If
• 28:14
Speaker 1: there are past mistakes whose consequences have placed you in
• 28:17
Speaker 1: an undesirable business or environment, you may be obliged for
• 28:21
Speaker 1: some time to do what you do not like to do.
• 28:23
Speaker 1: But you can make the doing of it pleasant by
• 28:25
Speaker 1: knowing that it is making it possible for you to
• 28:28
Speaker 1: come to the doing of what you want to do.
• 28:30
Speaker 1: If you feel that you are not in the right vocation,
• 28:33
Speaker 1: do not act too hastily in trying to get into
• 28:35
Speaker 1: another one. The best way generally to change business or
• 28:38
Speaker 1: environment is by growth. Do not be afraid to make
• 28:41
Speaker 1: a sudden and radical change if the opportunity is presented
• 28:45
Speaker 1: and you feel, after careful consideration that it is the
• 28:48
Speaker 1: right opportunity. But never take sudden or radical action when
• 28:52
Speaker 1: you are in doubt as to the wisdom of doing so.
• 28:56
Speaker 1: There is never any hurry on the creative plane, and
• 28:58
Speaker 1: there is no lack of opportunity. When you get out
• 29:01
Speaker 1: of the competitive mind, you will understand that you never
• 29:04
Speaker 1: need to act hastily. No one else is going to
• 29:07
Speaker 1: beat you to the thing you want to do. There
• 29:10
Speaker 1: is enough for all. If one space is taken another
• 29:13
Speaker 1: and a better one will be opened for you a
• 29:15
Speaker 1: little farther on. There is plenty of time when you
• 29:18
Speaker 1: are in doubt, wait, fall back on the contemplation of
• 29:22
Speaker 1: your vision, and increase your faith and purpose, and by
• 29:25
Speaker 1: all means, in times of doubt and indecision, cultivate gratitude.
• 29:30
Speaker 1: A day or two spent in contemplating the vision of
• 29:33
Speaker 1: what you want, and in earnest thanksgiving that you are
• 29:36
Speaker 1: getting it will bring your mind into such close relationship
• 29:39
Speaker 1: with the Supreme that you will make no mistake when
• 29:42
Speaker 1: you do act. There is a mind which knows all
• 29:45
Speaker 1: there is to know, and you can come into close
• 29:48
Speaker 1: unity with this mind by faith and the purpose to
• 29:50
Speaker 1: advance in life if you have deep gratitude. Mistakes come
• 29:54
Speaker 1: from acting hastily, or from acting in fear or doubt,
• 29:58
Speaker 1: or in forgetfulness of the right motive, which is more
• 30:01
Speaker 1: life to all and less to none. As you go
• 30:04
Speaker 1: on in a certain way, opportunities will come to you
• 30:07
Speaker 1: in increasing number, and you will need to be very
• 30:09
Speaker 1: steady in your faith and purpose, and to keep in
• 30:12
Speaker 1: close touch with the old mind. By reverent gratitude. Do
• 30:16
Speaker 1: all that you can do in a perfect manner every day,
• 30:19
Speaker 1: but do it without haste, worry, or fear. Go as
• 30:22
Speaker 1: fast as you can, but never hurry. Remember that in
• 30:26
Speaker 1: the moment you begin to hurry, you cease to be
• 30:28
Speaker 1: a creator and become a competitor. You drop back upon
• 30:32
Speaker 1: the old plane again. Whenever you find yourself hurrying, call
• 30:36
Speaker 1: a halt, fix your attention on the mental image of
• 30:39
Speaker 1: the thing you want, and begin to give thanks that
• 30:42
Speaker 1: you are getting it. The exercise of gratitude will never
• 30:45
Speaker 1: fail to strengthen your faith and renew your purpose gratitude.
• 30:51
Speaker 1: The illustrations given in the last chapter will have conveyed
• 30:54
Speaker 1: to the reader the fact that the first step toward
• 30:57
Speaker 1: getting rich is to convey the idea of your want
• 31:00
Speaker 1: to the formless substance. This is true, and you will
• 31:03
Speaker 1: see that in order to do so, it becomes necessary
• 31:06
Speaker 1: to relate yourself to the formless intelligence in a harmonious way.
• 31:11
Speaker 1: To secure this harmonious relation is a matter of such
• 31:14
Speaker 1: primary and vital importance that I shall give some space
• 31:17
Speaker 1: to its discussion here and give you instructions which, if
• 31:20
Speaker 1: you will follow them, will be certain to bring you
• 31:23
Speaker 1: into perfect unity of mind with God. The whole process
• 31:26
Speaker 1: of mental adjustment and atonement can be summed up in
• 31:29
Speaker 1: one word, gratitude. First, you believe that there is one
• 31:33
Speaker 1: intelligent substance from which all things proceed. Second, you believe
• 31:38
Speaker 1: that this substance gives you everything you desire, And third
• 31:42
Speaker 1: you relate yourself to it by a feeling of deep
• 31:44
Speaker 1: and profound gratitude. Many people who order their lives rightly
• 31:49
Speaker 1: in all other ways are kept in poverty by their
• 31:52
Speaker 1: lack of gratitude. Having received one gift from God, they
• 31:56
Speaker 1: cut the wires which connect them with Him by failing
• 31:59
Speaker 1: to make acknowledgment. It is easy to understand that the
• 32:03
Speaker 1: nearer will lift the source of wealth, the more wealth
• 32:06
Speaker 1: we shall receive. And it is easy also to understand
• 32:09
Speaker 1: that the soul that is always grateful lives in closer
• 32:12
Speaker 1: touch with God than the one which never looks to
• 32:15
Speaker 1: Him in thankful acknowledgment. The more gratefully if we fix
• 32:18
Speaker 1: our minds on the Supreme when good things come to us,
• 32:21
Speaker 1: the more good things we will receive, and the more
• 32:24
Speaker 1: rapidly they will come. And the reason simply is that
• 32:27
Speaker 1: the mental attitude of gratitude draws the mind into closer
• 32:30
Speaker 1: touch with the source from which the blessings come. If
• 32:34
Speaker 1: it is a new thought to you that gratitude brings
• 32:37
Speaker 1: your whole mind into closer harmony with the creative energies
• 32:40
Speaker 1: of the universe, consider it well, and you will see
• 32:43
Speaker 1: that it is true. The good things you already have
• 32:46
Speaker 1: have come to you along the line of obedience to
• 32:49
Speaker 1: certain laws. Gratitude will lead your mind out along the
• 32:52
Speaker 1: ways by which things come, and it will keep you
• 32:55
Speaker 1: in close harmony with creative thought and prevent you from
• 32:58
Speaker 1: falling into competence thought. Gratitude alone can keep you looking
• 33:03
Speaker 1: toward the all and prevent you from falling into the
• 33:06
Speaker 1: error of thinking of the supply as limited, and to
• 33:09
Speaker 1: do that would be fatal to your hopes. There is
• 33:12
Speaker 1: a law of gratitude, and it is absolutely necessary that
• 33:15
Speaker 1: you should observe the law if you are to get
• 33:18
Speaker 1: the results you seek. The law of gratitude is the
• 33:21
Speaker 1: natural principle that action and reaction are always equal and
• 33:24
Speaker 1: in opposite directions. The grateful outreaching of your mind in
• 33:28
Speaker 1: thankful praise to the Supreme is a liberation or expenditure
• 33:32
Speaker 1: of force. It cannot fail to reach that to which
• 33:35
Speaker 1: it addressed, and the reaction is an instantaneous movement towards
• 33:39
Speaker 1: You draw nigh unto God, and He will draw nigh
• 33:43
Speaker 1: unto you. That is a statement of ziological truth. And
• 33:48
Speaker 1: if your gratitude is strong and constant, the reaction in
• 33:51
Speaker 1: formless substance will be strong and continuous. The movement of
• 33:55
Speaker 1: the things you want will be always toward you. Notice
• 33:58
Speaker 1: the grateful attitude that these took. How he always seems
• 34:01
Speaker 1: to be saying, I thank thee Father that thou hearest me.
• 34:06
Speaker 1: You cannot exercise much power without gratitude. For this gratitude
• 34:10
Speaker 1: that keeps you connected with power. But the value of
• 34:13
Speaker 1: gratitude does not consist solely in getting you more blessings
• 34:17
Speaker 1: in the future. Without gratitude, you cannot long keep from
• 34:20
Speaker 1: the satisfied thought regarding things as they are. The moment
• 34:24
Speaker 1: you permit your mind to dwell with the satisfaction upon
• 34:27
Speaker 1: things as they are, you begin to lose ground. You
• 34:30
Speaker 1: fix attention upon the common, the ordinary, the poor, and
• 34:34
Speaker 1: the squalid and mean, and your mind takes the form
• 34:37
Speaker 1: of these things. Then you will transmit these forms or
• 34:41
Speaker 1: mental images to the formness and the common, the poor,
• 34:44
Speaker 1: the squalid, the mean will come to you. To permit
• 34:47
Speaker 1: your mind to dwell upon the inferior is to become inferior,
• 34:50
Speaker 1: and to surround yourself with inferior things. On the other hand,
• 34:54
Speaker 1: to fix your attention on the best is to surround
• 34:57
Speaker 1: yourself with the best, and to become the best. The
• 35:00
Speaker 1: creative power within us makes us into the image of debt,
• 35:03
Speaker 1: to which we give our attention. We are thinking substance,
• 35:07
Speaker 1: and thinking substance always takes the form of death to
• 35:10
Speaker 1: which it thinks about. The grateful mind is constantly fixed
• 35:14
Speaker 1: upon the best. Therefore it tends to become the best.
• 35:17
Speaker 1: It takes the form or character of the best, and
• 35:20
Speaker 1: we are received the best. Also, faith is born of gratitude.
• 35:24
Speaker 1: To grateful mind continually expects good things, and expectation becomes faith.
• 35:30
Speaker 1: The reaction of gratitude upon one's own mind produces faith,
• 35:34
Speaker 1: and every outgoing wave of grateful thanksgiving increases faith. He
• 35:38
Speaker 1: who has no feeling of gratitude cannot long retain a
• 35:41
Speaker 1: living faith, And without a living faith, you cannot get
• 35:45
Speaker 1: rich by the creative method, as we shall see in
• 35:47
Speaker 1: the following chapters. It is necessary, then, to cultivate the
• 35:51
Speaker 1: habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes
• 35:54
Speaker 1: to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all
• 35:58
Speaker 1: things have contributed to you advancement, you should include all
• 36:02
Speaker 1: things in your gratitude. Do not waste time thinking or
• 36:06
Speaker 1: talking about the shortcomings or wrong actions of plutocrats or
• 36:09
Speaker 1: trust magnets. Their organization of the world has made your opportunity.
• 36:14
Speaker 1: All you get really comes to you because of them.
• 36:17
Speaker 1: Do not rage against corrupt politicians. If it were not
• 36:21
Speaker 1: for politicians, we should fall into anarchy, and your opportunity
• 36:24
Speaker 1: would be greatly lessened. God has worked a long time
• 36:28
Speaker 1: and very patiently to bring us up to where we
• 36:30
Speaker 1: are in industry and government, and he is going right
• 36:33
Speaker 1: on with his work. There is not the least doubt
• 36:36
Speaker 1: that he will do away the plutocrats, trust magnets, captains
• 36:40
Speaker 1: of industry and politicians as soon as they can be spared.
• 36:44
Speaker 1: But in the meantime, behold they are all very good.
• 36:47
Speaker 1: Remember that they are all helping to arrange the lines
• 36:50
Speaker 1: of transmission along which your riches will come to you.
• 36:53
Speaker 1: And be grateful to them all. This will bring you
• 36:56
Speaker 1: into harmonious relations with the good in everything, and the
• 37:00
Speaker 1: good in everything will move toward you. How riches come
• 37:04
Speaker 1: to you. When I say that you do not have
• 37:07
Speaker 1: to drive sharp bargains, I do not mean that you
• 37:10
Speaker 1: do not have to drive any bargains at all, or
• 37:12
Speaker 1: that you are above the necessity for having any dealings
• 37:15
Speaker 1: with your fellow man. I mean that you will not
• 37:18
Speaker 1: need to deal with them unfairly. You do not have
• 37:21
Speaker 1: to get something for nothing, but can give to every
• 37:24
Speaker 1: man more than you take from him. You cannot give
• 37:27
Speaker 1: every man more in cash market value than you take
• 37:29
Speaker 1: from him, but you can give him more in use
• 37:32
Speaker 1: value than the cash value of the thing you take
• 37:34
Speaker 1: from him. The paper, ink, and other material in this
• 37:37
Speaker 1: book may not be worth the money you pay for it,
• 37:40
Speaker 1: but if the ideas suggested in it bring you thousands
• 37:44
Speaker 1: of dollars, you have not been wronged by those who
• 37:46
Speaker 1: sold it to you. They have given you a great
• 37:49
Speaker 1: use value for a small cash value. Let us suppose
• 37:52
Speaker 1: that I own a picture by one of the greatest artists,
• 37:55
Speaker 1: which in any civilized community is worth thousands of dollars.
• 38:00
Speaker 1: I take it to Baffin Bay and buy salesmanship, induce
• 38:03
Speaker 1: an Esquimaux to give a bundle of furs worth five
• 38:06
Speaker 1: hundred for it. I have really wronged him, for he
• 38:09
Speaker 1: has no use for the picture. It has no use
• 38:12
Speaker 1: value to him. It will not add to his life.
• 38:15
Speaker 1: But suppose I give him a gun worth fifty dollars
• 38:18
Speaker 1: for his furs, then he has made a good bargain.
• 38:22
Speaker 1: He has use for the gun. It will get him
• 38:25
Speaker 1: many more furs and much food. It will add to
• 38:27
Speaker 1: his life in every day. It will make him rich.
• 38:31
Speaker 1: When you rise from the competitive to the creative plane,
• 38:34
Speaker 1: you can scan your business transactions very strictly. And if
• 38:38
Speaker 1: you are selling any man anything which does not add
• 38:40
Speaker 1: more to his life than the thing he gives you
• 38:42
Speaker 1: in exchange, you can afford to stop it. You do
• 38:46
Speaker 1: not have to beat anybody in business. And if you
• 38:49
Speaker 1: are in a business which does beat people, get out
• 38:52
Speaker 1: of it at once. Give every man more in use
• 38:55
Speaker 1: value than you take from him in cash value. Then
• 38:59
Speaker 1: you are adding to the life of the world by
• 39:00
Speaker 1: every business transaction. If you have people working for you,
• 39:05
Speaker 1: you must take from them more cash value than you
• 39:07
Speaker 1: pay them in wages. But you can so organize your
• 39:11
Speaker 1: business that it will be filled with the principle of advancement,
• 39:14
Speaker 1: and so that each employee who wishes to do so
• 39:17
Speaker 1: may advance a little every day. You can make your
• 39:20
Speaker 1: business do for your employees what this book is doing
• 39:23
Speaker 1: for you. You can so conduct your business that it
• 39:26
Speaker 1: will be a sort of letter by which every employee
• 39:28
Speaker 1: who will take the trouble may clime to riches himself.
• 39:31
Speaker 1: And given the opportunity, if he will not do so,
• 39:34
Speaker 1: it is not your fault. And finally, because you are
• 39:38
Speaker 1: to cause the creation of your riches from formless substance,
• 39:40
Speaker 1: which permits all your environment, it does not follow that
• 39:44
Speaker 1: they are to take shape from the atmosphere and come
• 39:46
Speaker 1: into being before your eyes. If you want a sewing machine,
• 39:49
Speaker 1: for instance, I do not mean to tell you that
• 39:52
Speaker 1: you are to impress the thought of a suing machine
• 39:54
Speaker 1: on thinking substance until the machine is formed without hands,
• 39:58
Speaker 1: in the room where you sit or elsewhere. But if
• 40:00
Speaker 1: you want a sewing machine, hold a mental image of
• 40:03
Speaker 1: it with the most positive certainty that it is being
• 40:05
Speaker 1: made or is on its way to you. After once
• 40:09
Speaker 1: forming the thought, have the most absolute and unquestioning faith
• 40:12
Speaker 1: that the suing machine is coming. Never think of it
• 40:15
Speaker 1: or speak of it in any other way than as
• 40:18
Speaker 1: being sure to arrive. Claim it as already yours. It
• 40:22
Speaker 1: will be brought to you by the power of the
• 40:24
Speaker 1: Supreme Intelligence acting upon the minds of man. If you
• 40:27
Speaker 1: live in Maine, it may be that a man will
• 40:30
Speaker 1: be brought from Taxes or Japan to engage in some
• 40:32
Speaker 1: transaction which will result in your getting what you want.
• 40:36
Speaker 1: If so, the whole matter will be as much to
• 40:38
Speaker 1: that man's advantage as it is to yours. Do not
• 40:42
Speaker 1: forget for a moment that the thinking substance is through all,
• 40:45
Speaker 1: in all, communicating with all, and can influence all. The
• 40:49
Speaker 1: desire of thinking substance for fuller life and better living
• 40:53
Speaker 1: has caused a creation of all the sewing machines already made,
• 40:56
Speaker 1: and this can cause a creation of millions more, and
• 40:59
Speaker 1: will when never man set it in motion. By desire
• 41:02
Speaker 1: and faith, and by acting in a certain way, you
• 41:05
Speaker 1: can certainly have a sewing machine in your house. And
• 41:08
Speaker 1: it is just as certain that you can have any
• 41:11
Speaker 1: other thing or things which you want and which you
• 41:13
Speaker 1: will use for the advancement of your own life and
• 41:16
Speaker 1: the lives of others. You need not hesitate about asking. Largely,
• 41:20
Speaker 1: it is your father's pleasure to give you the kingdom,
• 41:23
Speaker 1: said Jesus. Original substance wants to live all that is
• 41:27
Speaker 1: possible in you, and want you to have all that
• 41:29
Speaker 1: you can or will use for the living of the
• 41:32
Speaker 1: most abundant life. If you fix upon your consciousness the
• 41:36
Speaker 1: fact that the desire you feel for the possession of
• 41:38
Speaker 1: riches is one with the desire for omnipotence, for more
• 41:41
Speaker 1: complete expression, your faith becomes invincible. Once I saw a
• 41:46
Speaker 1: little boy sitting at a piano and vainly trying to
• 41:49
Speaker 1: bring harmony out of the keys, and I saw that
• 41:52
Speaker 1: he was grieved and provoked by his inability to play
• 41:55
Speaker 1: real music. I asked him the cause of this vexation,
• 41:58
Speaker 1: and he answered, I can feel the music in me,
• 42:01
Speaker 1: but I can make my hands go right. The music
• 42:04
Speaker 1: in him was the urge of original substance, containing all
• 42:07
Speaker 1: the possibilities of all life. All that deairies of music
• 42:11
Speaker 1: was seeking expression through the child God. The one's substance
• 42:15
Speaker 1: is trying to live and do and enjoy things through humanity.
• 42:19
Speaker 1: He is saying, I want hands to build wonderful structures,
• 42:22
Speaker 1: to play divine harmonies, to paint glorious pictures. I want
• 42:27
Speaker 1: fit to run my errands, eyes to see my beauties,
• 42:30
Speaker 1: tongues to tell mighty truths, and to sing marvelous songs,
• 42:34
Speaker 1: and so on. All that deairies of possibility is seeking
• 42:38
Speaker 1: expression through man. God wants those who can play music
• 42:41
Speaker 1: to have pianos and every other instrument, and to have
• 42:44
Speaker 1: to miss to cultivate their talents to the fullest extent.
• 42:48
Speaker 1: He wants those who can appreciate beauty to be able
• 42:51
Speaker 1: to surround themselves with beautiful things. He wants those who
• 42:54
Speaker 1: can discern the truth to have every opportunity to travel
• 42:57
Speaker 1: and observe. He wants those who can appre each He
• 43:00
Speaker 1: had dressed to be beautifully clothed, and those who can
• 43:03
Speaker 1: appreciate good food to be luxuriously fed. He wants all
• 43:07
Speaker 1: these things because it is himself that enjoys and appreciates them.
• 43:11
Speaker 1: It is God who wants to play and sing and
• 43:13
Speaker 1: enjoy beauty, and proclaim truth, and wear fine clothes and
• 43:17
Speaker 1: eat good foods. It is God that worketh in you
• 43:20
Speaker 1: to will and to do, said Paul. The desire you
• 43:24
Speaker 1: feel for riches is the infinite seeking to express himself
• 43:27
Speaker 1: in you, as He thought to find expression in the
• 43:30
Speaker 1: little boy at the piano. So you need not hesitate
• 43:33
Speaker 1: to ask. Largely your part is to vocalize and express
• 43:37
Speaker 1: the desire to God. This is a difficult point with
• 43:41
Speaker 1: most people. They retain something of the old idea that
• 43:44
Speaker 1: poverty and self sacrifice are pleasing to God. They look
• 43:48
Speaker 1: upon poverty as a part of the plan, a necessity
• 43:51
Speaker 1: of nature. They have the idea that God has finished
• 43:54
Speaker 1: his work and made all that he can make, and
• 43:57
Speaker 1: that the majority of man must stay poor because there
• 44:00
Speaker 1: is not enough to go round. They hold so much
• 44:03
Speaker 1: to the erroneous thought that they feel ashamed to ask
• 44:06
Speaker 1: for wealth. They try not to want more than a
• 44:09
Speaker 1: very modest competence, just enough to make them fairly comfortable.
• 44:13
Speaker 1: I recall now a case of one student who was
• 44:16
Speaker 1: told that he must get in mind a clear picture
• 44:18
Speaker 1: of the things he desired, so that the creative thought
• 44:21
Speaker 1: of them might be impressed on formers substance. He was
• 44:24
Speaker 1: a very poor man, living in a rented house and
• 44:27
Speaker 1: having only what he earned from day to day, and
• 44:30
Speaker 1: he could not grasp the fact that all wealth was his. So,
• 44:34
Speaker 1: after thinking the matter over, he decided that he might
• 44:37
Speaker 1: reasonably ask for a new rug on the floor of
• 44:40
Speaker 1: his best room, and an entry side colstove to heat
• 44:43
Speaker 1: the house during the cold winter. Following the instructions given
• 44:47
Speaker 1: in this book, he obtained these things in a few months,
• 44:50
Speaker 1: and that it dawned upon him that he had not
• 44:52
Speaker 1: asked enough. He went through the house in which he
• 44:55
Speaker 1: lived and planned all the improvements he would like to
• 44:58
Speaker 1: make in it. He mentally added a bit window here,
• 45:00
Speaker 1: a room there, until it was complete in his mind
• 45:03
Speaker 1: as his ideal home, and then he planned its furnishings,
• 45:07
Speaker 1: holding the whole picture in his mind. He began living
• 45:10
Speaker 1: in a certain way and moving toward what he wanted.
• 45:13
Speaker 1: And he owns the house now and is rebuilding it
• 45:16
Speaker 1: after the form of his mental image. And now, with
• 45:19
Speaker 1: still larger faith, he is going on to get greater things.
• 45:23
Speaker 1: It has been unto him according to his faith. And
• 45:26
Speaker 1: it is so with you and with all of us.
• 45:29
Speaker 1: How to use the will to set about getting rich
• 45:33
Speaker 1: in a scientific way? You do not try to apply
• 45:35
Speaker 1: your will power to anything outside of yourself. You have
• 45:39
Speaker 1: no right to do so. Anyway. It is wrong to
• 45:42
Speaker 1: apply your will to other men and women in order
• 45:44
Speaker 1: to get them do what you wish done. It is
• 45:48
Speaker 1: as flagrantly wrong to coerce people by mental power as
• 45:52
Speaker 1: it is to coerce them by physical power. If compelling
• 45:55
Speaker 1: people by physical force to do things for you reduces
• 45:58
Speaker 1: them to slavery, compelling them by mental means accomplishes exactly
• 46:02
Speaker 1: the same thing. The only difference is in methods. If
• 46:05
Speaker 1: taking things from people by physical forces robbery, then taking
• 46:09
Speaker 1: things by mental force is robbery. Also, there is no
• 46:12
Speaker 1: difference in principle. You have no right to use your
• 46:16
Speaker 1: will power upon another person, even for his own good,
• 46:20
Speaker 1: for you do not know what is for his good.
• 46:22
Speaker 1: The science of getting rich does not require you to
• 46:25
Speaker 1: apply power or force to any other person in any
• 46:28
Speaker 1: way whatsoever. There is not the slightest necessity for doing so. Indeed,
• 46:33
Speaker 1: any attempt to use your will upon others will only
• 46:36
Speaker 1: tend to defeat your purpose. You do not need to
• 46:39
Speaker 1: apply your will to things in order to compel them
• 46:41
Speaker 1: to come to you. That will simply be trying to
• 46:45
Speaker 1: cuerce God, and would be foolish and useless. As well
• 46:47
Speaker 1: as irreverend, You do not have to compel God to
• 46:51
Speaker 1: give you good things any more than you have to
• 46:53
Speaker 1: use your will power to make the sun rise. You
• 46:56
Speaker 1: do not have to use your will power to conquer
• 46:59
Speaker 1: an unferently day, or to make stubborn and rebellious forces
• 47:03
Speaker 1: do your bidding. Substance is friendly to you and is
• 47:06
Speaker 1: more anxious to give you what you want than you
• 47:08
Speaker 1: are to get it. To get rich, you need only
• 47:11
Speaker 1: to use your will power upon yourself. When you know
• 47:15
Speaker 1: what to think or do, then you must use your
• 47:17
Speaker 1: will to compel yourself to think and do the right things.
• 47:21
Speaker 1: That is the legitimate use of the will in getting
• 47:23
Speaker 1: what you want. To use it in holding yourself to
• 47:26
Speaker 1: the right course. Use your will to keep yourself thinking
• 47:29
Speaker 1: and acting in a certain way. Do not try to
• 47:33
Speaker 1: project your will, or your thoughts, or your mind out
• 47:36
Speaker 1: into space to act on things or people. Keep your
• 47:40
Speaker 1: mind at home. It can accomplish more there than elsewhere.
• 47:45
Speaker 1: Use your mind to form a mental image of what
• 47:47
Speaker 1: you want, and to hold that vision with faith and purpose,
• 47:51
Speaker 1: And use your will to keep your mind working in
• 47:53
Speaker 1: the right way. The more steady and continues your faith
• 47:57
Speaker 1: and purpose, the more rapidly you will get rich. Because
• 48:00
Speaker 1: you will make only positive impressions upon substance, and you
• 48:04
Speaker 1: will not neutralize or offset them by negative impressions. The
• 48:08
Speaker 1: picture of your desires, helb with faith and purpose, is
• 48:12
Speaker 1: taken up by the formness and permits it to great
• 48:14
Speaker 1: distances throughout the universe. For all I know, as this
• 48:18
Speaker 1: impression spreads, all things are set moving toward its realization.
• 48:23
Speaker 1: Every living thing, every inanimate thing, and the things yet
• 48:27
Speaker 1: uncreated are stirred toward bringing into being that which you want.
• 48:31
Speaker 1: All force begins to be exerted in that direction, All
• 48:35
Speaker 1: things begin to move toward you. The minds of people
• 48:39
Speaker 1: everywhere are influenced toward doing the things necessary to the
• 48:42
Speaker 1: fulfilling of your desires, and they work for you unconsciously.
• 48:46
Speaker 1: But you can check all this by starting a negative
• 48:48
Speaker 1: impression in the formless substance. Doubt or unbelief is as
• 48:52
Speaker 1: certain to start a movement away from you as faith
• 48:55
Speaker 1: and purpose are to start one toward you. It is
• 48:58
Speaker 1: by not understanding this that most people who try to
• 49:01
Speaker 1: make use of mental science in getting rich make their failure.
• 49:05
Speaker 1: Every hour and moment you spend in giving heed to
• 49:08
Speaker 1: doubts and fears, every hour you spend in worry, every
• 49:11
Speaker 1: hour in which your soul is possessed by unbelief, sets
• 49:15
Speaker 1: a current away from you. In the whole domain of
• 49:17
Speaker 1: intelligent substance, all the promises are unto them that believe,
• 49:22
Speaker 1: and unto them. Only notice how insistent Jesus was upon
• 49:25
Speaker 1: his point of belief. And now you know the reason why.
• 49:30
Speaker 1: Since belief is all important, it behooves you to guard
• 49:32
Speaker 1: your thoughts. And as your beliefs will be shaped in
• 49:35
Speaker 1: a very great extent by the things you observe and
• 49:38
Speaker 1: think about, it is important that you should command your attention.
• 49:42
Speaker 1: And here the will comes into use, For it is
• 49:45
Speaker 1: by your will that you determine upon what things your
• 49:47
Speaker 1: attention shall be fixed. If you want to become rich,
• 49:51
Speaker 1: you must not make a study of poverty. Things are
• 49:54
Speaker 1: not brought into being by thinking about their opposites. Health
• 49:58
Speaker 1: is never to be attained by studying disease and thinking
• 50:00
Speaker 1: about disease. Righteousness is not to be promoted by studying
• 50:04
Speaker 1: sin and thinking about sin. And no one ever got
• 50:07
Speaker 1: rich by studying poverty and thinking about poverty. Medicine as
• 50:11
Speaker 1: a science of disease has increased disease, religion as science
• 50:15
Speaker 1: of sin has promoted sin, and economics as a study
• 50:18
Speaker 1: of poverty will fill the word with wretchedness and want.
• 50:22
Speaker 1: Do not talk about poverty, Do not investigate it or
• 50:25
Speaker 1: concern yourself with it, never mind what its causes are.
• 50:29
Speaker 1: You have nothing to do with them. What concerns you
• 50:32
Speaker 1: is the cure. Do not spend your time in charitable
• 50:36
Speaker 1: work or charity movements. All charity only tends to perpetuate
• 50:39
Speaker 1: the wretchedness it aims to eradicate. I do not say
• 50:43
Speaker 1: that you should be hard hearted or unkind and refuse
• 50:46
Speaker 1: to hear the cry of need. But you must not
• 50:49
Speaker 1: try to eradicate poverty in any of the conventional ways.
• 50:52
Speaker 1: Put poverty behind you, and put all that pertains to
• 50:56
Speaker 1: it behind you, and make good, get rich. That is
• 50:59
Speaker 1: the best way you can help the poor. And you
• 51:01
Speaker 1: cannot hold a mental image which is to make you
• 51:04
Speaker 1: rich if you fill your mind with pictures of poverty.
• 51:07
Speaker 1: Do not read books or papers which give you circumstantial
• 51:10
Speaker 1: accounts of the wretchedness of the tenement dwellers, of the
• 51:13
Speaker 1: horrors of child labor, and so on. Do not read
• 51:16
Speaker 1: anything which fills your mind with gloomy images of want
• 51:19
Speaker 1: and suffering. You cannot help the poor in the least
• 51:23
Speaker 1: by knowing about these things, and the widespread knowledge of
• 51:26
Speaker 1: them does not tend to all to do away with poverty.
• 51:29
Speaker 1: What tends to do away with poverty is not the
• 51:31
Speaker 1: getting of pictures of poverty into your mind, but getting
• 51:34
Speaker 1: pictures of wealth into the minds of the poor. You
• 51:37
Speaker 1: are not deserting the poor in their misery when you
• 51:40
Speaker 1: refuse to allow your mind to be filled with pictures
• 51:42
Speaker 1: of that misery. Poverty can be done away with not
• 51:46
Speaker 1: by increasing the number of wealth to do people to
• 51:48
Speaker 1: think about poverty, but by increasing the number of poor
• 51:51
Speaker 1: people who purpose with faith to get rich. The poor
• 51:55
Speaker 1: do not need charity, they need inspiration. Charity only sends
• 51:59
Speaker 1: them a loaf of bread to keep them alive in
• 52:01
Speaker 1: their wretchedness, or gives them an entertainment to make them
• 52:05
Speaker 1: forget for an hour or two. But inspiration will cause
• 52:08
Speaker 1: them to rise out of their misery. If you want
• 52:11
Speaker 1: to help the poor, demonstrate to them that they can
• 52:13
Speaker 1: become rich. Prove it by getting rich yourself. The only
• 52:18
Speaker 1: way in which poverty will ever be banished from this
• 52:20
Speaker 1: world is by getting a lodge and constantly increasing number
• 52:23
Speaker 1: of people to practice the teaching of this book. People
• 52:26
Speaker 1: must be taught to become rich by creation, not by competition.
• 52:31
Speaker 1: Every man who becomes rich by competition throws down behind
• 52:35
Speaker 1: him the latter by which he rises, and gives others down.
• 52:38
Speaker 1: But every man who gets rich by creation, opens away
• 52:42
Speaker 1: four thousands to follow him, and inspires them to do so.
• 52:45
Speaker 1: You are not showing hardness of heart or an unfeeling
• 52:48
Speaker 1: disposition when you refuse to pity poverty. See poverty, read
• 52:52
Speaker 1: about poverty, or think and talk about it, or to
• 52:56
Speaker 1: listen to those who do talk about it. Use your
• 52:59
Speaker 1: will power to keep keep your mind of the subject
• 53:01
Speaker 1: of poverty, and to keep it fixed with faith and
• 53:04
Speaker 1: purpose on the vision of what you want, increasing life.
• 53:09
Speaker 1: You must get rid of the last vestige of the
• 53:11
Speaker 1: old idea that there is a deity whose will it
• 53:14
Speaker 1: is that you should be poor, or whose purposes may
• 53:17
Speaker 1: be served by keeping you in poverty. The intelligent substance,
• 53:20
Speaker 1: which is all and in all, and which lives in
• 53:23
Speaker 1: all and lives in you, is a consciously living substance.
• 53:27
Speaker 1: Being a consciously living substance, it must have the nature
• 53:30
Speaker 1: and inherent desire of every living intelligence for increase of life.
• 53:34
Speaker 1: Every living thing must continually seek for the enlargement of
• 53:38
Speaker 1: its life, because life, in the mere act of living,
• 53:41
Speaker 1: must increase itself. A seed dropped into the ground springs
• 53:46
Speaker 1: into activity, and in the act of living, produces a
• 53:49
Speaker 1: hundred more seeds life. By living, multiplies itself. It is
• 53:53
Speaker 1: forever becoming more. It must do so if it continues
• 53:57
Speaker 1: to be at all. Intelligence is under the same necessity
• 54:00
Speaker 1: for continuous increase. Every thought we think makes it necessary
• 54:05
Speaker 1: for us to think another thought. Consciousness is continually expanding.
• 54:10
Speaker 1: Every fact we learn leads us to the learning of
• 54:12
Speaker 1: another fact. Knowledge is continually increasing. Every talent we cultivate
• 54:18
Speaker 1: brings to the mind a desire to cultivate another talent.
• 54:22
Speaker 1: We are subject to the urge of life seeking expression,
• 54:25
Speaker 1: whichever drives us on to know more, to do more,
• 54:28
Speaker 1: and to be more. In order to know more, do more,
• 54:32
Speaker 1: and be more, we must have more. We must have
• 54:35
Speaker 1: things to use, for we learn and do and become
• 54:38
Speaker 1: only by using things. We must get rich so that
• 54:42
Speaker 1: we can live more. The desire for riches is simply
• 54:46
Speaker 1: the capacity for larger life seeking fulfillment. Every desire is
• 54:50
Speaker 1: the effort of an unexpressed possibility to come into action.
• 54:54
Speaker 1: It is power seeking to manifest which causes desire. That
• 54:58
Speaker 1: which makes you want more money is the same as
• 55:01
Speaker 1: that which makes the plant grow. It is life seeking
• 55:04
Speaker 1: fuller expression. The one living substance must be subject to
• 55:08
Speaker 1: this inherent love of all life. It is permitted with
• 55:11
Speaker 1: the desire to live more. That is why it is
• 55:14
Speaker 1: under the necessity of creating things. The one substance desires
• 55:18
Speaker 1: to live more in you. Hence it wants you to
• 55:21
Speaker 1: have all the things you can use. It is a
• 55:24
Speaker 1: desire of God that you should get rich. He wants
• 55:26
Speaker 1: you to get rich because he can express himself better
• 55:29
Speaker 1: through you. If you have plenty of things to use.
• 55:32
Speaker 1: In giving him expression, he can live more in you.
• 55:35
Speaker 1: If you have unlimited command of the means of life.
• 55:38
Speaker 1: The universe desires you to have everything you want to have.
• 55:42
Speaker 1: Nature is friendly to your plans. Everything is naturally for you.
• 55:47
Speaker 1: Make up your mind that this is true. It is essential, however,
• 55:51
Speaker 1: that your purpose should harmonize with the purpose that is
• 55:54
Speaker 1: in all. You must want real life, not mere pleasure
• 55:57
Speaker 1: of sensual gratification. Life is the performance of function, and
• 56:02
Speaker 1: the individual really lives only when he performs every function physical, mental,
• 56:07
Speaker 1: and spiritual, of which he is capable, without excess. In
• 56:10
Speaker 1: any You do not want to get rich in order
• 56:13
Speaker 1: to live swinishly for the gratification of animal desires. That
• 56:17
Speaker 1: is not life. But the performance of every physical function
• 56:20
Speaker 1: is a part of life, and no one lives completely
• 56:23
Speaker 1: who denies the impulses of the body a normal and
• 56:26
Speaker 1: healthful expression. You do not want to get rich solely
• 56:30
Speaker 1: to enjoy mental pleasures. To get knowledge, to gratify ambition,
• 56:34
Speaker 1: to outshine others, to be famous. All these are legitimate
• 56:38
Speaker 1: part of life. But the man who lives for the
• 56:40
Speaker 1: pleasures of the intellect alone will only have a partial life,
• 56:44
Speaker 1: and he will never be satisfied with his lot. You
• 56:47
Speaker 1: do not want to get rich solely for the good
• 56:49
Speaker 1: of others, to lose yourself for the salvation of mankind,
• 56:53
Speaker 1: to experience the choice of philanthropy and sacrifice. The joys
• 56:57
Speaker 1: of the soul are only a part of life, and
• 56:59
Speaker 1: they are no better nor nobler than any other part.
• 57:04
Speaker 1: You want to get rich in order that you may eat, drink,
• 57:07
Speaker 1: and be merry when it is time to do these things.
• 57:10
Speaker 1: In order that you may surround yourself with beautiful things
• 57:13
Speaker 1: see distant lands, feed your mind and develop your intellect,
• 57:17
Speaker 1: in order that you may love man and do kind things,
• 57:20
Speaker 1: and be able to play a good part in helping
• 57:22
Speaker 1: the world to find truth. But remember that extreme altruism
• 57:27
Speaker 1: is no better nor nobler than extreme selfishness. Both are mistakes.
• 57:32
Speaker 1: Get rid of the idea that God wants you to
• 57:34
Speaker 1: sacrifice yourself for others, and that you can secure his
• 57:37
Speaker 1: favor by doing so. God requires nothing of the kind.
• 57:41
Speaker 1: What he wants you is that you should make the
• 57:44
Speaker 1: most of yourself for yourself and for others. And you
• 57:47
Speaker 1: can help others more by making the most of yourself
• 57:50
Speaker 1: than in any other way. You can make the most
• 57:52
Speaker 1: of yourself only by getting rich. So it is right
• 57:55
Speaker 1: and praiseworthy that you should give your first and best
• 57:58
Speaker 1: thought to the work of a quieting wealth. Remember, however,
• 58:02
Speaker 1: that the desire of substance is for all, and its
• 58:05
Speaker 1: movements must be for more life to all. It cannot
• 58:08
Speaker 1: be made to work for less life to any, because
• 58:11
Speaker 1: it is equally in all seeking riches and life. Intelligent
• 58:15
Speaker 1: substance will make things for you, but it will not
• 58:18
Speaker 1: take things away from some one else and give them
• 58:20
Speaker 1: to you. You must get rid of the thought of competition.
• 58:24
Speaker 1: You are to create, not to compete for what is
• 58:27
Speaker 1: already created. You do not have to take anything from
• 58:30
Speaker 1: any one. You do not have to drive sharp bargains.
• 58:34
Speaker 1: You do not have to cheat or to take advantage.
• 58:37
Speaker 1: You do not need to let any man work for
• 58:39
Speaker 1: you for less than he earns. You do not have
• 58:43
Speaker 1: to covert the property of others, or to look at
• 58:45
Speaker 1: it with wistful eyes. No man has anything of which
• 58:48
Speaker 1: you cannot have the like, and that without taking what
• 58:51
Speaker 1: he has away from him, you are to become a creator,
• 58:55
Speaker 1: not a competitor. You are going to get what you want,
• 58:58
Speaker 1: but in such a way that when you get it,
• 59:00
Speaker 1: every other man will have more than he has. Now.
• 59:03
Speaker 1: I am aware that there are men who get a
• 59:05
Speaker 1: vast amount of money by proceeding in direct opposition to
• 59:08
Speaker 1: the statements in the paragraph above, and may add a
• 59:11
Speaker 1: word of explanation here. Men of the plutocratic type who
• 59:15
Speaker 1: become very rich do so sometimes purely by their extraordinary
• 59:19
Speaker 1: ability on the plane of competition, and sometimes they unconsciously
• 59:23
Speaker 1: relate themselves to Substance in its great purposes and movements
• 59:26
Speaker 1: for the general racial of bailing through industrial evolution, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan,
• 59:33
Speaker 1: and others have been the unconscious agents of the Supreme
• 59:35
Speaker 1: in the necessary work of systematizing and organizing productive industry,
• 59:40
Speaker 1: and in the end their work will contribute immensely toward
• 59:43
Speaker 1: increased life for all their day is nearly over. They
• 59:47
Speaker 1: have organized production and will soon be succeeded by the
• 59:50
Speaker 1: agents of the multitude, who will organize the machinery of distribution.
• 59:55
Speaker 1: The multi millionaires are like the monster reptiles of the
• 59:58
Speaker 1: prehistoric eras they play a necessary part in the evolutionary process.
• 1:00:03
Speaker 1: But the same power which produce them will dispose of them.
• 1:00:06
Speaker 1: And it is well to bear in mind that they
• 1:00:09
Speaker 1: have never been really rich. A record of the private
• 1:00:12
Speaker 1: lives of most of this class will show that they
• 1:00:14
Speaker 1: have really been the most abject and wretched of the poor.
• 1:00:18
Speaker 1: Riches secured on the competitive plain are never satisfactory and permanent.
• 1:00:22
Speaker 1: They are yours to day and anothers tomorrow. Remember, if
• 1:00:26
Speaker 1: you are to become rich in a scientific and certain way,
• 1:00:29
Speaker 1: you must trice entirely out of the competitive thought. You
• 1:00:33
Speaker 1: must never think for a moment that the supply is limited.
• 1:00:36
Speaker 1: Just as soon as you begin to think that all
• 1:00:38
Speaker 1: the money is being cornered and controlled by bankers and others,
• 1:00:42
Speaker 1: and that you must exert yourself to get laws past
• 1:00:45
Speaker 1: to stop this process, and so on, in that moment
• 1:00:48
Speaker 1: you drop into the competitive mind, and your power to
• 1:00:51
Speaker 1: cause creation is gone for the time being, and what
• 1:00:54
Speaker 1: is worse, you will probably arrest the creative movements you
• 1:00:57
Speaker 1: have already instituted. Know that there are countless millions of
• 1:01:01
Speaker 1: dollars worth of gold in the mountains of the earth
• 1:01:04
Speaker 1: not yet brought to light, and know that if there
• 1:01:06
Speaker 1: were not, more would be created from thinking substance to
• 1:01:10
Speaker 1: supply your needs. Know that the money you need will come,
• 1:01:13
Speaker 1: even if it is necessary for a thousand men to
• 1:01:16
Speaker 1: be led to the discovery of new gold mines tomorrow.
• 1:01:19
Speaker 1: Never look at the visible supply. Look always at the
• 1:01:22
Speaker 1: limitless riches in formless substance, and know that they are
• 1:01:25
Speaker 1: coming to you as fast as you can receive and
• 1:01:28
Speaker 1: use them. Nobody by cornering the visible supply can prevent
• 1:01:32
Speaker 1: you from getting what is yours. So never allow yourself
• 1:01:36
Speaker 1: to think for an instant that all the best building
• 1:01:39
Speaker 1: spots will be taken before you get ready to build
• 1:01:41
Speaker 1: your house unless you hurry. Never worry about the trust
• 1:01:45
Speaker 1: and combines and get anxious for fear they will soon
• 1:01:48
Speaker 1: come to own the whole earth. Never get afraid that
• 1:01:51
Speaker 1: you will lose what you want because some other person
• 1:01:53
Speaker 1: beats you to it. That cannot possibly happen. You are
• 1:01:57
Speaker 1: not seeking anything that is possessed by anybody else. You
• 1:02:00
Speaker 1: are causing what you want to be created from formless substance,
• 1:02:03
Speaker 1: and the supplies without limits. Stick to the formulated statement.
• 1:02:08
Speaker 1: There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
• 1:02:11
Speaker 1: and which, in his original state, permeits, penetrates, and fills
• 1:02:15
Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
• 1:02:19
Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
• 1:02:22
Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
• 1:02:25
Speaker 1: thought upon form with substance, can cause the thing he
• 1:02:28
Speaker 1: thinks about to be created. Is opportunity monopolized. No man
• 1:02:34
Speaker 1: is kept poor because opportunity has been taken away from him,
• 1:02:38
Speaker 1: because other people have monopolized the wealth and have put
• 1:02:41
Speaker 1: a fence around it. He may be shut off from
• 1:02:43
Speaker 1: engaging in business in certain lines, but there are other
• 1:02:46
Speaker 1: channels open to you. Probably it would be hard for
• 1:02:49
Speaker 1: you to get control of any of the great railroad systems.
• 1:02:52
Speaker 1: That field is pretty well monopolized. But the electric railway
• 1:02:56
Speaker 1: business is still in its infancy and offers plenty of
• 1:02:59
Speaker 1: scope for enterprise. And it will be but a few
• 1:03:02
Speaker 1: years until traffic and transportation through the air will become
• 1:03:05
Speaker 1: a great industry. And in all its branches will give
• 1:03:08
Speaker 1: employment to hundreds of thousands, and perhaps millions of people.
• 1:03:12
Speaker 1: Why not turn your attention to the development of aerial
• 1:03:15
Speaker 1: transportation instead of competing with J. J. Hill and others
• 1:03:19
Speaker 1: for a chance in the steam railway world. It is
• 1:03:22
Speaker 1: quite true that if you are a workman in the
• 1:03:24
Speaker 1: employe of the steel Trust, you have very little chance
• 1:03:27
Speaker 1: of becoming the owner of the plant in which you work.
• 1:03:30
Speaker 1: But it is also true that if you will commence
• 1:03:32
Speaker 1: the act in a certain way, you can soon leave
• 1:03:34
Speaker 1: the employee of the steel Trust. You can buy a
• 1:03:37
Speaker 1: farm of from ten to forty acres and engage in
• 1:03:40
Speaker 1: business as a producer of footstuffs. There is great opportunity
• 1:03:44
Speaker 1: at this time for men who will live upon small
• 1:03:46
Speaker 1: tracts of land and cultivate the same intensively. Such men
• 1:03:50
Speaker 1: will certainly get rich. You may say that it is
• 1:03:53
Speaker 1: impossible for you to get the land, but I am
• 1:03:55
Speaker 1: going to prove to you that it is not impossible,
• 1:03:58
Speaker 1: and that you can certainly get a farm if you
• 1:04:00
Speaker 1: will go to work in a certain way. At different periods,
• 1:04:03
Speaker 1: the tide of opportunity sets in different directions according to
• 1:04:07
Speaker 1: the needs of the whole and the particular state of
• 1:04:10
Speaker 1: social evolution which has been reached at present in America,
• 1:04:14
Speaker 1: it is setting toward agriculture and the allied industries and professions. Today,
• 1:04:19
Speaker 1: opportunities open before the factory worker in his line. It
• 1:04:23
Speaker 1: is open before the business man who supplies the farmer
• 1:04:26
Speaker 1: more than before the one who supplies the factory worker,
• 1:04:29
Speaker 1: and before the professional man who waits upon the farmer
• 1:04:31
Speaker 1: more than before the one who serves the working class.
• 1:04:35
Speaker 1: There is abundance of opportunity for the man who will
• 1:04:37
Speaker 1: go with the tide instead of trying to swim against it.
• 1:04:41
Speaker 1: So the factory workers, either as individuals or as a class,
• 1:04:45
Speaker 1: are not deprived of opportunity. The workers are not being
• 1:04:48
Speaker 1: kept down by their masters, They are not being ground
• 1:04:51
Speaker 1: by the trusts and combinations of capital. As a class.
• 1:04:55
Speaker 1: They are where they are because they do not do
• 1:04:57
Speaker 1: things in a certain way. If the workers of a
• 1:04:59
Speaker 1: man Erica chose to do so, they could follow the
• 1:05:02
Speaker 1: example of their brothers in Belgium and other countries and
• 1:05:05
Speaker 1: establish great department stores and co operative industries. They could
• 1:05:10
Speaker 1: lact men of their own class to office and past
• 1:05:13
Speaker 1: laws favoring the development of such cooperative industries, and in
• 1:05:16
Speaker 1: a few years they could take peaceable possession of the
• 1:05:19
Speaker 1: industrial field. The working class may become the master class
• 1:05:24
Speaker 1: whenever they will begin to do things in a certain way.
• 1:05:27
Speaker 1: The law of wealth is the same for them as
• 1:05:29
Speaker 1: it is for all others. This they must learn, and
• 1:05:33
Speaker 1: they will remain where they are as long as they
• 1:05:35
Speaker 1: continue to do as they do. The individual worker, however,
• 1:05:39
Speaker 1: is not held down by the ignorance or the mental
• 1:05:42
Speaker 1: slothfulness of his class. He can follow the tide of
• 1:05:45
Speaker 1: opportunity to riches. And this book will tell them how
• 1:05:49
Speaker 1: no one is kept in poverty by a shortness in
• 1:05:52
Speaker 1: the supply of riches. There is more than enough for all.
• 1:05:55
Speaker 1: A palace as large as the capital at Washington might
• 1:05:58
Speaker 1: be built for every family on Earth. From the building
• 1:06:00
Speaker 1: material in the United States alone, and under intensive cultivation,
• 1:06:05
Speaker 1: this country would produce wool, cotton, linen, and silk enough
• 1:06:08
Speaker 1: to cloth each person in the word finer than Solomon
• 1:06:11
Speaker 1: was a rate in all his glory, together with food
• 1:06:14
Speaker 1: enough to feed them all luxuriously. The visible supply is
• 1:06:18
Speaker 1: practically inexhaustible, and the invisible supply really is inexhaustible. Everything
• 1:06:23
Speaker 1: you see on earth is made from one original substance
• 1:06:26
Speaker 1: out of which all things proceed. New forms are constantly
• 1:06:31
Speaker 1: being made, and other ones are dissolving, but all are
• 1:06:34
Speaker 1: shapes assumed by one thing. There is no limit to
• 1:06:38
Speaker 1: the supply of formless stuff or original substance. The universe
• 1:06:43
Speaker 1: is made out of it, but it is not all use.
• 1:06:45
Speaker 1: In making the universe. The spaces in, through and between
• 1:06:49
Speaker 1: the forms of the visible universe are permitted and filled
• 1:06:52
Speaker 1: with the original substance, with the formless stuff. With the
• 1:06:55
Speaker 1: raw material of all things, ten thousand times as much
• 1:06:59
Speaker 1: as has been made might still be made, and even
• 1:07:02
Speaker 1: then we should not have exhausted the supply of universal
• 1:07:04
Speaker 1: raw material. No man therefore is poor because nature is poor,
• 1:07:09
Speaker 1: or because there is not enough to go round. Nature
• 1:07:12
Speaker 1: is an inexhaustible storehouse of riches. The supply will never
• 1:07:16
Speaker 1: run short. Original substance is alive with creative energy, and
• 1:07:20
Speaker 1: is constantly producing more forms. When the supply of building
• 1:07:24
Speaker 1: material is exhausted, more will be produced. When the soil
• 1:07:28
Speaker 1: is exhausted, so that food stuffs and materials for clothing
• 1:07:31
Speaker 1: will no longer grow upon it, it will be renewed,
• 1:07:34
Speaker 1: or more soil will be made. When all the gold
• 1:07:37
Speaker 1: and silver has been dug from the earth. If man
• 1:07:40
Speaker 1: is still in such a state of social development that
• 1:07:42
Speaker 1: he needs gold and silver, more will be produced from
• 1:07:45
Speaker 1: the formless. The formless stuff responds to the needs of man.
• 1:07:49
Speaker 1: It will not let him be without any good thing.
• 1:07:53
Speaker 1: This is true of man collectively. The race as a
• 1:07:56
Speaker 1: whole is always abundantly rich, and if individuals are poor,
• 1:07:59
Speaker 1: it is because they do not follow the certain way
• 1:08:02
Speaker 1: of doing things which makes the individual man rich. The
• 1:08:06
Speaker 1: formless tough is intelligent. It is tough which thinks it
• 1:08:10
Speaker 1: is alife, and is always impelled toward more life. It
• 1:08:14
Speaker 1: is the natural and inherent impulse of life to seek
• 1:08:16
Speaker 1: to live more. It is a nature of intelligence to
• 1:08:19
Speaker 1: enlarge itself, and of consciousness to seek to extend its
• 1:08:23
Speaker 1: boundaries and find fuller expression. The universe of forms has
• 1:08:27
Speaker 1: been made by formless, living substance throwing itself into form
• 1:08:31
Speaker 1: in order to express itself more fully. The universe is
• 1:08:35
Speaker 1: a great, living presence, always moving inherently toward more life
• 1:08:39
Speaker 1: and fuller functioning. Nature is formed for the advancement of life.
• 1:08:43
Speaker 1: Its impelling motive is the increase of life. For this cause,
• 1:08:47
Speaker 1: everything which can possibly minister to life is bountifully provided.
• 1:08:52
Speaker 1: There can be no lack unless God is to contradict
• 1:08:54
Speaker 1: himself and nullify his own works. You are not kept
• 1:08:58
Speaker 1: poor by lacking the supply of riches. It is a
• 1:09:01
Speaker 1: fact that I shall demonstrate a little farther on, that
• 1:09:04
Speaker 1: even the resources of the formless supply are at the
• 1:09:07
Speaker 1: command of the man or woman who elect and think
• 1:09:09
Speaker 1: in a certain way. Preface. This book is pragmatical, not philosophical,
• 1:09:16
Speaker 1: practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended
• 1:09:20
Speaker 1: for the man and women whose most pressing needs for money,
• 1:09:23
Speaker 1: who wish to get rich first, and philosophies afterward. It
• 1:09:27
Speaker 1: is for those who have so far found neither the time,
• 1:09:30
Speaker 1: the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the
• 1:09:33
Speaker 1: study of metaphysics, but who want results, and who are
• 1:09:36
Speaker 1: willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis
• 1:09:39
Speaker 1: for action, without going into all the processes by which
• 1:09:42
Speaker 1: those conclusions were reached. It is expected that the reader
• 1:09:46
Speaker 1: will take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he
• 1:09:49
Speaker 1: would take statements concerning a law of electrical action if
• 1:09:52
Speaker 1: they were promulgated by a Marconi or an Edison, and
• 1:09:56
Speaker 1: taking the statements upon faith that He will prove their
• 1:09:59
Speaker 1: truth truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation.
• 1:10:03
Speaker 1: Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich.
• 1:10:07
Speaker 1: For the science herein applied is an exact science, and
• 1:10:10
Speaker 1: failure is impossible. For the benefit, however, of those who
• 1:10:14
Speaker 1: wish to investigate philosophical theories in so secure a logical
• 1:10:18
Speaker 1: basis of faith, I will hear cite certain authorities the
• 1:10:22
Speaker 1: menistic theory of the universe, the theory that one is
• 1:10:25
Speaker 1: all and at all is one, that one's substance manifests
• 1:10:29
Speaker 1: itself as the seeming in many elements of the material.
• 1:10:32
Speaker 1: Word is of Hindu origin and has been gradually winning
• 1:10:35
Speaker 1: its way into the thought of the Western world for
• 1:10:38
Speaker 1: two hundred years. It is the foundation of all the
• 1:10:41
Speaker 1: Oriential philosophies, and of those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel,
• 1:10:47
Speaker 1: and Emerson. The reader who would dig the philosophical foundations
• 1:10:50
Speaker 1: of this is advised to read Hegel an Ammerson for himself.
• 1:10:55
Speaker 1: In writing this book, I have sacrificed all other considerations
• 1:10:58
Speaker 1: to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might
• 1:11:01
Speaker 1: understand the plan of action laid down herein was deduced
• 1:11:05
Speaker 1: from the conclusions of philosophy. It has been thoroughly tested
• 1:11:08
Speaker 1: and bears a supreme test of practical experiment. It works.
• 1:11:12
Speaker 1: If you wish to know how the conclusions were riveted,
• 1:11:15
Speaker 1: read the writings of the authors mentioned above, And if
• 1:11:18
Speaker 1: you wish to reap the fruits of their philosophies in
• 1:11:20
Speaker 1: actual practice, read this book and do exactly as it
• 1:11:24
Speaker 1: tells you to do. The author end of the preface
• 1:11:29
Speaker 1: some cautions and concluding observations. Many people will scoff at
• 1:11:34
Speaker 1: the idea that there is an exact science of getting rich,
• 1:11:37
Speaker 1: holding the impression that the supply of wealth is limited,
• 1:11:40
Speaker 1: they will insist that social and governmental constitutions must be
• 1:11:44
Speaker 1: changed before even any considerable number of people can acquire
• 1:11:48
Speaker 1: a competence. But this is not true. It is true
• 1:11:51
Speaker 1: that existing governments keep the masses in poverty, but this
• 1:11:55
Speaker 1: is because the masses do not think and act in
• 1:11:57
Speaker 1: a certain way. If the masses begin to move forward,
• 1:12:01
Speaker 1: as suggested in this book, neither governments nor industrial systems
• 1:12:05
Speaker 1: can check them. All systems must be modified to accommodate
• 1:12:09
Speaker 1: the forward movement. If the people have the advancing mind,
• 1:12:13
Speaker 1: have the faith that they can become rich and move
• 1:12:15
Speaker 1: forward with the fixed purpose to become rich, nothing can
• 1:12:18
Speaker 1: possibly keep them in poverty. Individuals may enter upon a
• 1:12:23
Speaker 1: certain way, at any time, and under any government, and
• 1:12:26
Speaker 1: make themselves rich. And when any considerable number of individuals
• 1:12:30
Speaker 1: do so under any government, they will cause the system
• 1:12:32
Speaker 1: to be so modified as to open the way for others.
• 1:12:36
Speaker 1: The more men who get rich on the competitive plane,
• 1:12:39
Speaker 1: the worse for others, and more who get rich in
• 1:12:41
Speaker 1: the creative plane, the better for others. The economic salvation
• 1:12:46
Speaker 1: of the masses can only be accomplished by getting a
• 1:12:48
Speaker 1: large number of people to practice the scientific method set
• 1:12:51
Speaker 1: down in this book and become rich. These will show
• 1:12:55
Speaker 1: others the way and inspire them with the desire for
• 1:12:58
Speaker 1: real life, with the faith that can be attained, and
• 1:13:01
Speaker 1: with the purpose to attain it. For the present, however,
• 1:13:04
Speaker 1: it is enough to know that neither the government under
• 1:13:07
Speaker 1: which you live, nor the capitalistic or competitive system of
• 1:13:10
Speaker 1: industry can keep you from getting rich. When you enter
• 1:13:13
Speaker 1: upon the creative plane of thought, you will rise above
• 1:13:16
Speaker 1: all these things and become a citizen of another kingdom.
• 1:13:20
Speaker 1: But remember that your thought must be held upon the
• 1:13:22
Speaker 1: creative plane. You are never for an instant to be
• 1:13:25
Speaker 1: betrayed into regarding the supply as limited, or into acting
• 1:13:29
Speaker 1: on the moral level of competition. Whenever you do fall
• 1:13:33
Speaker 1: into old ways of thought, correct yourself instantly, for when
• 1:13:37
Speaker 1: you are in the competitive mind, you have lost a
• 1:13:39
Speaker 1: co operation of the mind of the whole. Do not
• 1:13:42
Speaker 1: spend any time in planning as to how you will
• 1:13:45
Speaker 1: meet possible emergencies in the future, except as the necessary
• 1:13:48
Speaker 1: policies may affect your actions to day. You are concerned
• 1:13:52
Speaker 1: with doing to day's work in a perfectly successful manner,
• 1:13:55
Speaker 1: and not with emergencies which may arise to morrow. You
• 1:13:57
Speaker 1: can attend to them as they come. Do not concern
• 1:14:00
Speaker 1: yourself with questions as to how you shall surmount obstacles
• 1:14:04
Speaker 1: which may loom upon your business horizon, unless you see
• 1:14:07
Speaker 1: plainly that your course must be altered to day in
• 1:14:10
Speaker 1: order to avoid them. No matter how tremendous an obstruction
• 1:14:13
Speaker 1: may appear at the distance, you will find that if
• 1:14:16
Speaker 1: you go in a certain way, it will disappear as
• 1:14:18
Speaker 1: you approach it orde away, over, through, or around it
• 1:14:22
Speaker 1: will appear. No possible combination of circumstances can defeat a
• 1:14:26
Speaker 1: man or woman who is proceeding to get rich along
• 1:14:29
Speaker 1: strictly scientific lines. No man or woman who obeys the
• 1:14:33
Speaker 1: law can fail to get rich any more than one
• 1:14:36
Speaker 1: can multiply two by two and fail to get four.
• 1:14:39
Speaker 1: Give no anxious thought to possible disasters, obstacles, panics, or
• 1:14:43
Speaker 1: unfavorable combinations of circumstances. It is time enough to meet
• 1:14:47
Speaker 1: such things as they present themselves before you in the
• 1:14:50
Speaker 1: immediate present, and you will find that every difficulty carries
• 1:14:54
Speaker 1: with it the wherewithal for its overcoming. Guard your speech.
• 1:14:58
Speaker 1: Never speak of yourself, your affair, or of anything else
• 1:15:01
Speaker 1: in a discouraged or discouraging way. Never admit the possibility
• 1:15:05
Speaker 1: of failure, or speak in a way that infers failure
• 1:15:08
Speaker 1: as a possibility. Never speak of the times as being hard,
• 1:15:13
Speaker 1: or of business conditions as being doubtful. Times may be
• 1:15:16
Speaker 1: hard and business doubtful for those who are on the
• 1:15:19
Speaker 1: competitive plane, but they can never be so for you.
• 1:15:22
Speaker 1: You can create what you want, and you are above fear.
• 1:15:26
Speaker 1: When others are having hard times and poor business, you
• 1:15:29
Speaker 1: will find your greatest opportunities. Train yourself to think of
• 1:15:33
Speaker 1: and to look upon the world as something which is becoming,
• 1:15:36
Speaker 1: which is growing, and to regard something evil as being
• 1:15:39
Speaker 1: only that which is undeveloped. Always speak in terms of advancement.
• 1:15:44
Speaker 1: To do otherwise is to deny your faith, and to
• 1:15:47
Speaker 1: deny your faith is to lose it. Never allow yourself
• 1:15:51
Speaker 1: to feel disappointed. You may expect to have a certain
• 1:15:54
Speaker 1: thing at a certain time and not get it at
• 1:15:56
Speaker 1: that time, and this will appear to you like failure.
• 1:16:00
Speaker 1: But if you hold to your faith, you will find
• 1:16:03
Speaker 1: that the failure is only apparent. Go on in a
• 1:16:06
Speaker 1: certain way, and if you do not receive that thing,
• 1:16:09
Speaker 1: you will receive something so much better that you will
• 1:16:11
Speaker 1: see that the seeming failure was really a great success.
• 1:16:15
Speaker 1: A student in this science had set his mind on
• 1:16:17
Speaker 1: making a certain business combination, which seemed to him at
• 1:16:20
Speaker 1: the time to be very desirable, and he worked for
• 1:16:23
Speaker 1: some weeks to bring it about. When the crucial time came,
• 1:16:27
Speaker 1: the thing failed in a perfectly inexplicable way. It was
• 1:16:31
Speaker 1: as if some unseen influence had been working secretly against him.
• 1:16:35
Speaker 1: He was not disappointed. On the contrary, he thanked God
• 1:16:38
Speaker 1: that his desire had been overruled, and went steadily on
• 1:16:42
Speaker 1: with a grateful mind. In a few weeks, an opportunity
• 1:16:45
Speaker 1: so much better came his way that he would not
• 1:16:48
Speaker 1: have made the first deal on any account. And he
• 1:16:51
Speaker 1: saw that a mind which knew more than he knew,
• 1:16:53
Speaker 1: had prevented him from losing the greater good by entangling
• 1:16:57
Speaker 1: himself with the lesser. That is the way, ever, esteeming
• 1:17:00
Speaker 1: failure will work out for you if you keep your faith,
• 1:17:03
Speaker 1: all to your purpose, have gratitude, and do every day
• 1:17:07
Speaker 1: all that can be done that day, doing each separate
• 1:17:10
Speaker 1: act in a successful manner. When you make a failure,
• 1:17:14
Speaker 1: it is because you have not asked for enough. Keep on,
• 1:17:17
Speaker 1: and the larger thing than you are asking will certainly
• 1:17:19
Speaker 1: come to you. Remember this. You will not fail because
• 1:17:23
Speaker 1: you lack the necessary talent to do what you wish
• 1:17:25
Speaker 1: to do. If you go on as I have directed,
• 1:17:28
Speaker 1: you will develop all that talent that is necessary for
• 1:17:31
Speaker 1: the doing of your work. It is not within the
• 1:17:34
Speaker 1: scope of this book to deal with the science of
• 1:17:36
Speaker 1: cultivating talent, but it is as certain and simple as
• 1:17:39
Speaker 1: the process of getting rich. However, do not hesitate or
• 1:17:43
Speaker 1: wavor for fear when you come to any certain place
• 1:17:46
Speaker 1: you will fail for lack of ability. Keep right on,
• 1:17:49
Speaker 1: and when you come to that place, the ability will
• 1:17:51
Speaker 1: be furnished for you. The same source of ability which
• 1:17:54
Speaker 1: enable the untaught Lincoln to do the greatest working government
• 1:17:58
Speaker 1: ever accomplished by a single man, is open to you.
• 1:18:00
Speaker 1: You may draw upon all the mind there is for
• 1:18:03
Speaker 1: wisdom to use in meeting the responsibilities which are laid
• 1:18:06
Speaker 1: upon you. Go on in full faith study this book,
• 1:18:11
Speaker 1: make it your constant companion until you have mastered all
• 1:18:14
Speaker 1: the ideas contained in it. While you are getting firmly
• 1:18:17
Speaker 1: established in this faith, you will do well to give
• 1:18:19
Speaker 1: up most recreations and pleasure, and to stay away from
• 1:18:23
Speaker 1: places where ideas conflicting with these are advanced in lectures
• 1:18:26
Speaker 1: or sermons. Do not read pessimistic or conflicting literature, or
• 1:18:31
Speaker 1: get into your arguments upon the matter. Do very little
• 1:18:35
Speaker 1: reading outside of the writers mentioned in the preface. Spend
• 1:18:39
Speaker 1: most of your leisure time in contemplating your vision and
• 1:18:42
Speaker 1: in cultivating gratitude, and in reading this book. It contains
• 1:18:46
Speaker 1: all you need to know of the science of getting rich,
• 1:18:48
Speaker 1: and you will find all the essentials summed up in
• 1:18:51
Speaker 1: the following chapter Summary of the Science of Getting Rich.
• 1:18:56
Speaker 1: There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
• 1:18:59
Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and fills
• 1:19:03
Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
• 1:19:07
Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
• 1:19:10
Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
• 1:19:14
Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks
• 1:19:17
Speaker 1: about to be created. In order to do this, man
• 1:19:20
Speaker 1: must pass from the competitive to the creative mind, otherwise
• 1:19:24
Speaker 1: he cannot be in harmony with the formless intelligence, which
• 1:19:27
Speaker 1: is always creative and ever competitive in spirit. Man may
• 1:19:31
Speaker 1: come into full harmony with the formless substance by entertaining
• 1:19:35
Speaker 1: a lively and sincere gratitude for the blessings it bestows
• 1:19:38
Speaker 1: upon him. Gratitude unifies the mind of man with the
• 1:19:41
Speaker 1: intelligence of substance, so that man's thoughts are received by
• 1:19:45
Speaker 1: the formness. Man can remain upon the creative plain only
• 1:19:49
Speaker 1: by uniting himself with the formless intelligence through a deep
• 1:19:52
Speaker 1: and continuous feeling of gratitude. Man must form a clear
• 1:19:56
Speaker 1: and definite mental image of the things he wishes to have,
• 1:19:59
Speaker 1: to do, or to become, and he must hold this
• 1:20:02
Speaker 1: mental image in his thoughts while being deeply grateful to
• 1:20:05
Speaker 1: the Supreme that all he desires are granted to him.
• 1:20:09
Speaker 1: The man who wishes to get rich must spend his
• 1:20:11
Speaker 1: leisure hours in contemplating his vision and in earnest thanksgiving
• 1:20:16
Speaker 1: that the reality is being given to him. Too much
• 1:20:19
Speaker 1: stress cannot be laid on the importance of frequent contemplation
• 1:20:22
Speaker 1: of the mental image, coupled with unwavoring faith and devout gratitude.
• 1:20:27
Speaker 1: This is the process by which the impression is given
• 1:20:30
Speaker 1: to the formness and the creative forces set in motion.
• 1:20:34
Speaker 1: The creative energy works through the established channels of natural
• 1:20:37
Speaker 1: growth and of the industrial and social order. All that
• 1:20:41
Speaker 1: is included in his mental image will surely be brought
• 1:20:43
Speaker 1: to The man who follows the instructions given above, and
• 1:20:47
Speaker 1: whose faith does not favor what he wants will come
• 1:20:50
Speaker 1: to him through the ways of established trade and commerce.
• 1:20:54
Speaker 1: In order to receive his own when it shall come
• 1:20:56
Speaker 1: to him, man must be active, and this activity can
• 1:20:59
Speaker 1: only consists in more than filling his present place. He
• 1:21:03
Speaker 1: must keep in mind the purpose to get rich through
• 1:21:05
Speaker 1: the realization of his mental image, and he must do
• 1:21:09
Speaker 1: every day all that can be done that day, taking
• 1:21:12
Speaker 1: care to do each act in a successful manner. He
• 1:21:15
Speaker 1: must give to every man a use value in excess
• 1:21:17
Speaker 1: of the cash value he receives, so that each transaction
• 1:21:20
Speaker 1: makes for more life, and he must so hold the
• 1:21:23
Speaker 1: advancing thought that the impression of increase will be communicated
• 1:21:27
Speaker 1: to all with whom he comes in contact. The man
• 1:21:30
Speaker 1: and women who practice the foregoing instructions will certainly get rich,
• 1:21:34
Speaker 1: and the riches they receive will be in exact proportion
• 1:21:37
Speaker 1: to the definiteness of their vision, the fixity of their purpose,
• 1:21:41
Speaker 1: the steadiness of their faith, and the depth of their
• 1:21:44
Speaker 1: gratitude the advancing man. What I have said in the
• 1:21:48
Speaker 1: last chapter applies as well to the professional man and
• 1:21:51
Speaker 1: the wage eourner, as to the man who is engaged
• 1:21:54
Speaker 1: in mercantile business. No matter whether you are a physician,
• 1:21:58
Speaker 1: a teacher, or a clergyman, if you can give increase
• 1:22:01
Speaker 1: of life to others and make them sensible of the fact,
• 1:22:04
Speaker 1: they will be attracted to you, and you will get rich.
• 1:22:07
Speaker 1: The physician who holds the vision of himself as a
• 1:22:10
Speaker 1: great and successful healer, and who works toward a complete
• 1:22:13
Speaker 1: realization of that vision with faith and purpose, as described
• 1:22:16
Speaker 1: in the former chapters, will come into such close touch
• 1:22:19
Speaker 1: with the source of life that he will be phenomenally successful.
• 1:22:23
Speaker 1: Patience will come to him in throngs. No one has
• 1:22:26
Speaker 1: a greater opportunity to carry into effects the teaching of
• 1:22:29
Speaker 1: this book than the practitioner of medicine. It does not
• 1:22:33
Speaker 1: matter to which of the various schools he may belong,
• 1:22:36
Speaker 1: for the principle of healing is common to all of
• 1:22:38
Speaker 1: them and may be reached by all alike. The advancing
• 1:22:42
Speaker 1: man in medicine, who holds to a clear mental image
• 1:22:44
Speaker 1: of himself as successful, and who obeys the laws of faith, purpose,
• 1:22:48
Speaker 1: and gratitude, will cure every curable case he undertakes, no
• 1:22:53
Speaker 1: matter what remedies he may use. In the field of religion,
• 1:22:57
Speaker 1: the word cries out for the clergyman who can teach
• 1:22:59
Speaker 1: his hero the true science of abundant life. He who
• 1:23:03
Speaker 1: masters the details of the science of getting rich together
• 1:23:06
Speaker 1: with allied sciences, of being well, of being great, and
• 1:23:09
Speaker 1: of winning love, and who teaches these details from the pulpit,
• 1:23:13
Speaker 1: will never lack for a congregation. This is the gospel
• 1:23:16
Speaker 1: that the world needs. It will give increase of life,
• 1:23:19
Speaker 1: and man will hear it gladly and will give liberal
• 1:23:22
Speaker 1: support to the man who brings it to them. What
• 1:23:25
Speaker 1: is now needed is the demonstration of science of life
• 1:23:28
Speaker 1: from the pulpit. We want preachers who cannot only tell
• 1:23:32
Speaker 1: us how, but who in their own persons will show
• 1:23:34
Speaker 1: us how. We need the preacher who will himself be rich, healthy, great,
• 1:23:39
Speaker 1: and beloved to teach us how to attain these things.
• 1:23:43
Speaker 1: And when he comes he will find the numerous and
• 1:23:45
Speaker 1: lawyal following. The same is true for the teacher, who
• 1:23:48
Speaker 1: can inspire the children with the faith and purpose of
• 1:23:51
Speaker 1: the advancing life, he will never be out of a job.
• 1:23:54
Speaker 1: And any teacher who has this faith and purpose can
• 1:23:57
Speaker 1: give it to his pupils. He cannot help giving it
• 1:24:00
Speaker 1: to them if it is a part of his own
• 1:24:02
Speaker 1: life and practice. What is true of the teacher, preacher,
• 1:24:06
Speaker 1: and physician is true of the lawyer, dentist, real estatement,
• 1:24:09
Speaker 1: insurance agent of everybody. The combined mental and personal action
• 1:24:14
Speaker 1: I have described is infailable. It cannot fail. Every man
• 1:24:18
Speaker 1: and woman who follows these instructions steadily, perseveringly, and to
• 1:24:22
Speaker 1: the latter will get rich. The law of the increase
• 1:24:25
Speaker 1: of life is as mathematically certain in its operation as
• 1:24:29
Speaker 1: the law of gravitation. Getting rich is an exact science.
• 1:24:34
Speaker 1: The wage journer will find this as true of his
• 1:24:36
Speaker 1: case as of any of the others mentioned do not
• 1:24:39
Speaker 1: feel that you have no chance to get rich because
• 1:24:42
Speaker 1: you are working where there is no visible opportunity for advancement,
• 1:24:45
Speaker 1: where riches are small and the cost of living high.
• 1:24:49
Speaker 1: Form your clear mental vision of what you want, and
• 1:24:51
Speaker 1: begin to act with faith and purpose. Do all the
• 1:24:55
Speaker 1: work you can do every day, and do each piece
• 1:24:58
Speaker 1: of work in a perfectly successful manner. Put the power
• 1:25:01
Speaker 1: of success and the purpose to get rich into everything
• 1:25:04
Speaker 1: that you do. But do not do this merely with
• 1:25:07
Speaker 1: the idea of carrying favor with your employer in the
• 1:25:10
Speaker 1: hope that he or those above you will see your
• 1:25:12
Speaker 1: good work and advance you. It is not likely that
• 1:25:15
Speaker 1: they will do so. The man who is merely a
• 1:25:18
Speaker 1: good workman, feeling his place the very best of his
• 1:25:21
Speaker 1: ability and satisfied with that, is valuable to his employer,
• 1:25:25
Speaker 1: and it is not to the employer's interest to promote him.
• 1:25:28
Speaker 1: He is worth more where he is. To secure advancement,
• 1:25:32
Speaker 1: something more is necessary than to be too large for
• 1:25:34
Speaker 1: your place. The man who is certain to advance is
• 1:25:38
Speaker 1: the one who is too big for his place, and
• 1:25:40
Speaker 1: who has a clear concept of what he wants to be,
• 1:25:43
Speaker 1: who knows that he can become what he wants to
• 1:25:45
Speaker 1: be and who is determined to be what he wants
• 1:25:47
Speaker 1: to be. Do not try to more than fill your
• 1:25:50
Speaker 1: present place with the view of pleasing your employer. Do
• 1:25:53
Speaker 1: it with the idea of advancing yourself. Hold the faith
• 1:25:56
Speaker 1: and purpose of increase during work hours, after work hours,
• 1:25:59
Speaker 1: and be four work hours. Hold it in such a
• 1:26:02
Speaker 1: way that every person who comes in contact with you,
• 1:26:05
Speaker 1: whether foreman, fellow workmen, or social acquaintance, will feel the
• 1:26:09
Speaker 1: power of purpose radiating from you. So that every one
• 1:26:12
Speaker 1: will get the sense of advancement and increase from you.
• 1:26:15
Speaker 1: Men will be attracted to you. And if there is
• 1:26:17
Speaker 1: no possibility for advancement in your present job, you will
• 1:26:21
Speaker 1: very soon see an opportunity to take another job. There
• 1:26:24
Speaker 1: is a power which never fails to present opportunity to
• 1:26:27
Speaker 1: the advancing man who is moving in obedience to law.
• 1:26:31
Speaker 1: God cannot help helping you if you act in a
• 1:26:33
Speaker 1: certain way. He must do so in order to help himself.
• 1:26:37
Speaker 1: There is nothing in your circumstances or the industrial situation
• 1:26:41
Speaker 1: that can keep you down. If you cannot get rich
• 1:26:44
Speaker 1: working for the steel Trust, you can get rich on
• 1:26:46
Speaker 1: a ten acre farm. And if you begin to move
• 1:26:49
Speaker 1: in a certain way, you will certainly escape from the
• 1:26:51
Speaker 1: clutches of the steel Trust and get on to the
• 1:26:54
Speaker 1: farm or wherever else you wish to be. If a
• 1:26:57
Speaker 1: few thousands of its employees would enter upon the certain way,
• 1:27:01
Speaker 1: the still trust would soon be in a bad plight.
• 1:27:03
Speaker 1: It would have to give its working man more opportunity,
• 1:27:06
Speaker 1: or to go out of business. Nobody has to work
• 1:27:09
Speaker 1: for a trust. The trusts can keep men in so
• 1:27:12
Speaker 1: called hopeless conditions only so long as there are men
• 1:27:16
Speaker 1: who are too ignorant to know of the science of
• 1:27:18
Speaker 1: getting rich, or too intellectually slothful to practice it. Begin
• 1:27:23
Speaker 1: this way of thinking and acting, and your faith and
• 1:27:25
Speaker 1: purpose will make you quick to see any opportunity to
• 1:27:28
Speaker 1: better your condition. Such opportunities will speedily come, for the Supreme,
• 1:27:33
Speaker 1: working in all and working for you, will bring them
• 1:27:36
Speaker 1: before you. Do not wait for an opportunity to be
• 1:27:39
Speaker 1: all that you want to be. When an opportunity to
• 1:27:42
Speaker 1: be more than you are now is presented and you
• 1:27:44
Speaker 1: feel impelled toward it, take it. It will be the
• 1:27:47
Speaker 1: first step toward a greater opportunity. There is no such
• 1:27:51
Speaker 1: thing possible in this universe as the lack of opportunities
• 1:27:54
Speaker 1: for the man who is living the advancing life. It
• 1:27:57
Speaker 1: is inherent in the constitution of the cosmos that all
• 1:28:00
Speaker 1: things shall before him and work together for his good.
• 1:28:03
Speaker 1: And he must certainly get rich if he acts and
• 1:28:06
Speaker 1: thinks in a certain way. So let wage earning men
• 1:28:09
Speaker 1: and women study this book with great care and enter
• 1:28:12
Speaker 1: with confidence upon the course of action it prescribes. It
• 1:28:16
Speaker 1: will not fail. The first principle in the science of
• 1:28:19
Speaker 1: getting rich, thought is the only power which can produce
• 1:28:23
Speaker 1: tangible riches from the formless substance. The stuff from which
• 1:28:27
Speaker 1: all things are made is a substance which thinks, and
• 1:28:31
Speaker 1: the thought of form in this substance produces the form.
• 1:28:34
Speaker 1: Original substance moves according to its thoughts. Every form in
• 1:28:39
Speaker 1: process you see in nature is the visible expression of
• 1:28:41
Speaker 1: a thought in original substance. As the formless stuff thinks
• 1:28:45
Speaker 1: of a form, it takes that form. As it thinks
• 1:28:48
Speaker 1: of emotion, it makes that motion. That is the way
• 1:28:52
Speaker 1: all things were created. We live in a thought word,
• 1:28:56
Speaker 1: which is part of a thought universe. The thought of
• 1:28:59
Speaker 1: a moving universe extended throughout forms substance, and the thinking
• 1:29:03
Speaker 1: stuff moving according to death. Thought took the form of
• 1:29:06
Speaker 1: systems of planets and maintains that form. Thinking substance takes
• 1:29:10
Speaker 1: the form of its thought and moves according to the thought.
• 1:29:14
Speaker 1: Holding the idea of a circling system of suns and worlds,
• 1:29:17
Speaker 1: it takes the form of these bodies and moves them
• 1:29:20
Speaker 1: as it thinks. Thinking the form of a slow growing
• 1:29:24
Speaker 1: oak tree, it moves accordingly and produces the tree. Though
• 1:29:28
Speaker 1: centuries may be required to do the work in creating
• 1:29:32
Speaker 1: the formless seems to move according to the lines of
• 1:29:34
Speaker 1: motion it has established. The thought of an oak tree
• 1:29:37
Speaker 1: does not cause the instant formation of a full grown tree,
• 1:29:41
Speaker 1: but it does start in motion the forces which will
• 1:29:43
Speaker 1: produce the tree along established lines of growth. Every thought
• 1:29:48
Speaker 1: of form held in thinking substance causes the creation of
• 1:29:52
Speaker 1: the form, but always, or at least generally, along lines
• 1:29:56
Speaker 1: of growth and action already established. The thought of a
• 1:30:00
Speaker 1: house of a certain construction, if it were impressed upon
• 1:30:03
Speaker 1: formless substance, might not cause the instant formation of the house,
• 1:30:07
Speaker 1: but it would cause the turning of creative energies already
• 1:30:10
Speaker 1: working in trade and commerce into such channels as to
• 1:30:13
Speaker 1: result in the speedy building of the house. And if
• 1:30:17
Speaker 1: there were no existing channels through which the creative energy
• 1:30:20
Speaker 1: could work, then the house would be formed directly from
• 1:30:23
Speaker 1: primal substance, without waiting for the slow processes of the
• 1:30:27
Speaker 1: organic and inorganic world not thought of. Form can be
• 1:30:31
Speaker 1: impressed upon original substance without causing the creation of the form.
• 1:30:36
Speaker 1: Man is a thinking center and can originate thought. All
• 1:30:40
Speaker 1: the forms that man fashions with his hands must first
• 1:30:43
Speaker 1: exist in his thought. He cannot shape a thing until
• 1:30:47
Speaker 1: he has thought that thing, And so far Man has
• 1:30:50
Speaker 1: confined his efforts wholly to the work of his hands.
• 1:30:53
Speaker 1: He has applied manual labor to the world of forms,
• 1:30:57
Speaker 1: seeking to change or modify those already existing. He has
• 1:31:01
Speaker 1: never thought of trying to cause the creation of new
• 1:31:03
Speaker 1: forms by impressing his thoughts upon formless substance. When man
• 1:31:08
Speaker 1: has a thought form, he takes material from the forms
• 1:31:11
Speaker 1: of nature and makes an image of the form which
• 1:31:14
Speaker 1: is in his mind. He has so far made little
• 1:31:17
Speaker 1: or no effort to co operate with formless intelligence to
• 1:31:21
Speaker 1: work with the Father. He has not dreamed that he
• 1:31:23
Speaker 1: can do what he sees the Father doing. Manry shapes
• 1:31:27
Speaker 1: and modifies existing forms by manual labor. He has given
• 1:31:31
Speaker 1: no attention to the question whether he may not produce
• 1:31:34
Speaker 1: things from formless substance by communicating his thoughts to it.
• 1:31:38
Speaker 1: We propose to prove that he may do so, to
• 1:31:41
Speaker 1: prove that any man or woman may do so, and
• 1:31:43
Speaker 1: to show how. As our first step, we must lay
• 1:31:47
Speaker 1: down three fundamental propositions. First, we assert that there is
• 1:31:52
Speaker 1: one original, formless stuff or substance from which all things
• 1:31:56
Speaker 1: are made. All the seemingly many elements are but different
• 1:32:00
Speaker 1: presentations of one element. All the many forms found in
• 1:32:04
Speaker 1: organic and inorganic nature are but different shapes made from
• 1:32:07
Speaker 1: the same stuff. And this stuff is thinking stuff. A
• 1:32:12
Speaker 1: thought held in it produces the form of the thought.
• 1:32:15
Speaker 1: Thought in thinking substance produces shapes. Man is a thinking
• 1:32:20
Speaker 1: center capable of original thought. If man can communicate his
• 1:32:25
Speaker 1: thought to original thinking substance, he can cause the creation
• 1:32:29
Speaker 1: or formation of the thing he thinks about. To summarize this,
• 1:32:33
Speaker 1: there is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
• 1:32:36
Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and feels
• 1:32:40
Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
• 1:32:45
Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
• 1:32:49
Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
• 1:32:52
Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance can cause the thing he thinks
• 1:32:56
Speaker 1: about to be created. It may be asked if I
• 1:32:59
Speaker 1: can prove these statements, And without going into details, I
• 1:33:03
Speaker 1: answer that I can do so both by logic and experience.
• 1:33:07
Speaker 1: Reasoning back from the phenomena of foreman thought, I come
• 1:33:11
Speaker 1: to one original thinking substance, and reasoning forward from this
• 1:33:15
Speaker 1: thinking substance, I come to man's power to cause the
• 1:33:18
Speaker 1: formation of the thing he thinks about. And by experiment
• 1:33:22
Speaker 1: I find the reasoning true. And this is my strongest proof.
• 1:33:27
Speaker 1: If one man who reads this book gets rich by
• 1:33:29
Speaker 1: doing what he tells him to do, that is evidence
• 1:33:32
Speaker 1: in support of my claim. But if every man who
• 1:33:35
Speaker 1: does what it tells him to do gets rich, that
• 1:33:37
Speaker 1: is positive proof. Until someone goes through the process and fails.
• 1:33:42
Speaker 1: The theory is true until the process fails. And this
• 1:33:45
Speaker 1: process will not fail, for every man who does exactly
• 1:33:48
Speaker 1: what this book tells him to do will get rich.
• 1:33:52
Speaker 1: I have said that man get rich by doing things
• 1:33:54
Speaker 1: in a certain way, and in order to do so,
• 1:33:57
Speaker 1: man must become able to think in a certain way.
• 1:34:01
Speaker 1: A man's way of doing things is the direct result
• 1:34:04
Speaker 1: of the way he thinks about things. To do things
• 1:34:07
Speaker 1: in a way you want to do them. You will
• 1:34:09
Speaker 1: have to acquire the ability to think the way you
• 1:34:11
Speaker 1: want to think. This is the first step toward getting rich.
• 1:34:16
Speaker 1: To think what you want to think is to think truth,
• 1:34:19
Speaker 1: regardless of appearances. Every man has the natural and inherent
• 1:34:24
Speaker 1: power to think what he wants to think, but it
• 1:34:26
Speaker 1: requires far more effort to do so than it does
• 1:34:28
Speaker 1: to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To
• 1:34:32
Speaker 1: think according to appearance is easy. To think truth regardless
• 1:34:36
Speaker 1: of appearances is laborous and requires the expendure of more
• 1:34:40
Speaker 1: power than any other workman is called upon to perform.
• 1:34:44
Speaker 1: There is no labor from which most people shrink as
• 1:34:46
Speaker 1: they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought. It
• 1:34:50
Speaker 1: is the hardest work in the world. This is especially
• 1:34:53
Speaker 1: true when truth is contrary to appearances. Every appearance in
• 1:34:58
Speaker 1: the visible world tends to p a corresponding form in
• 1:35:01
Speaker 1: the mind which observes it, and this can only be
• 1:35:04
Speaker 1: prevented by holding the thought of the truth. To look
• 1:35:08
Speaker 1: upon the appearance of disease will produce the form of
• 1:35:11
Speaker 1: disease in your own mind and ultimately in your body,
• 1:35:14
Speaker 1: unless you hold the thought of the truth, which is
• 1:35:17
Speaker 1: that there is no disease. It is only an appearance,
• 1:35:19
Speaker 1: and the reality is health. To look upon the appearances
• 1:35:23
Speaker 1: of poverty will produce corresponding forms in your own mind.
• 1:35:27
Speaker 1: Unless you hold to the truth that there is no poverty,
• 1:35:30
Speaker 1: there is only abundance. To think health when surrounded by
• 1:35:34
Speaker 1: the appearances of disease, or to think riches when in
• 1:35:37
Speaker 1: the midst of appearances of poverty. Requires power. But he
• 1:35:41
Speaker 1: who acquires this power becomes a master mind. He can
• 1:35:45
Speaker 1: conquer faith, he can have what he wants. This power
• 1:35:49
Speaker 1: can only be acquired by getting hold of the basic
• 1:35:52
Speaker 1: fact which is behind all appearances, and that fact is
• 1:35:56
Speaker 1: that there is one thinking substance from which and by
• 1:35:59
Speaker 1: which all things are made. Then we must grasp the
• 1:36:02
Speaker 1: truth that every thought held in the substance becomes a form,
• 1:36:06
Speaker 1: and that man can so impress his thoughts upon it
• 1:36:09
Speaker 1: as to cause them to take form and become visible things.
• 1:36:13
Speaker 1: When we realize this, we lose all doubt and fear,
• 1:36:16
Speaker 1: for we know that we can create, we want to create,
• 1:36:19
Speaker 1: We can get what we want to have, and can
• 1:36:21
Speaker 1: become what we want to be. As a first step
• 1:36:24
Speaker 1: toward getting rich, you must believe that three fundamental statements
• 1:36:28
Speaker 1: given previously in this chapter, and in order to emphasize them,
• 1:36:32
Speaker 1: I repeat them here. There is a thinking stuff from
• 1:36:35
Speaker 1: which all things are made, and which, in its original
• 1:36:38
Speaker 1: state permits, penetrates, and feels the interspaces of the universe.
• 1:36:43
Speaker 1: A thought in this substance produces the thing that is
• 1:36:47
Speaker 1: imaged by the thought. Man can form things in his thought,
• 1:36:51
Speaker 1: and by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause
• 1:36:55
Speaker 1: the thing he thinks about to be created. He must
• 1:36:59
Speaker 1: lay aside all other concepts of the universe than this
• 1:37:02
Speaker 1: monistic one, and you must dwell upon this until it
• 1:37:05
Speaker 1: is fixed in your mind and has become your habitual thought.
• 1:37:09
Speaker 1: Read disecrete statements over and over again, fix every word
• 1:37:13
Speaker 1: upon your memory, and meditate upon them until you firmly
• 1:37:16
Speaker 1: believe what they say. If a doubt comes to you,
• 1:37:19
Speaker 1: cast it aside as a sin. Do not listen to
• 1:37:22
Speaker 1: arguments against this idea. Do not go to churches or
• 1:37:26
Speaker 1: lectures where a contrary concept of things is thought or preached.
• 1:37:30
Speaker 1: Do not read magazines or books which teach a different idea.
• 1:37:34
Speaker 1: If you get mixed up in your faith, all your
• 1:37:36
Speaker 1: efforts will be in vain. Do not ask why these
• 1:37:40
Speaker 1: things are true, nor speculate as to how they can
• 1:37:42
Speaker 1: be true. Simply take them on trust. The science of
• 1:37:46
Speaker 1: getting rich begins with the absolute acceptance of this faith,
• 1:37:50
Speaker 1: the impression of increase. Whether you charge your vocation or not,
• 1:37:55
Speaker 1: your actions for the present must be those pertaining to
• 1:37:58
Speaker 1: the business in which you are now engaged. You can
• 1:38:01
Speaker 1: get into the business you want by making constructive use
• 1:38:04
Speaker 1: of the business you are already established in, by doing
• 1:38:07
Speaker 1: your daily work in a certain way, and in so
• 1:38:10
Speaker 1: far as your business consists in dealing with other men,
• 1:38:13
Speaker 1: whether personally or by letter, the key thought of all
• 1:38:16
Speaker 1: your efforts must be to convey their minds. The impression
• 1:38:19
Speaker 1: of increase. Increase is what all men and all women
• 1:38:23
Speaker 1: are seeking. It is the urge of the formless intelligence
• 1:38:26
Speaker 1: within them, seeking fuller expression. The desire for increase is
• 1:38:30
Speaker 1: inherent in all nature. It is the fundamental impulse of
• 1:38:34
Speaker 1: the universe. All human activities are based on the desire
• 1:38:38
Speaker 1: for increase. People are seeking more food, more clothes, better shelter,
• 1:38:42
Speaker 1: more luxury, more beauty, more knowledge, more pleasure, increasing something,
• 1:38:48
Speaker 1: more life. Every living thing is under this necessity for
• 1:38:52
Speaker 1: continuous investment, where increase of life seeses this solution, and
• 1:38:56
Speaker 1: death set in at once. Men instinctively knows this, and
• 1:39:01
Speaker 1: hence he is forever seeking more. This law of perpetual
• 1:39:04
Speaker 1: increase is set forth by Jesus in the parable of
• 1:39:07
Speaker 1: the talents. Only those who gain more retain. Any from
• 1:39:11
Speaker 1: him who had not shall be taken away, even that
• 1:39:14
Speaker 1: which he had. The normal desire for increased wealth is
• 1:39:18
Speaker 1: not an evil or a reprehensible thing. It is simply
• 1:39:21
Speaker 1: the desire for more abundant life. It is aspiration, And
• 1:39:25
Speaker 1: because it is the deepest instinct of their natures, all
• 1:39:29
Speaker 1: men and women are attracted to him who can give
• 1:39:31
Speaker 1: them more of the means of life. In following a
• 1:39:34
Speaker 1: certain way, as described in the foregoing pages, you are
• 1:39:37
Speaker 1: getting continuous increase for yourself, and you are giving it
• 1:39:41
Speaker 1: to all with whom you deal. You are a creative
• 1:39:44
Speaker 1: center from which increase is given off to all. Be
• 1:39:48
Speaker 1: sure of this, and convey assurance of the fact to
• 1:39:51
Speaker 1: every man, woman, and child with whom you come in contact,
• 1:39:55
Speaker 1: no matter how small the transaction, even if it be
• 1:39:58
Speaker 1: only the selling of a stick of candy to a
• 1:40:00
Speaker 1: little child, put into it the thought of increase, and
• 1:40:04
Speaker 1: make sure that the customer is impressed with the thought.
• 1:40:08
Speaker 1: Convey the impression of advancement with everything you do, so
• 1:40:11
Speaker 1: that all people shall receive the impression that you are
• 1:40:13
Speaker 1: an advancing man, and that you advance all who deal
• 1:40:16
Speaker 1: with you, even to the people whom you met in
• 1:40:19
Speaker 1: a social way without any thought of business, and to
• 1:40:22
Speaker 1: whom you do not try to sell anything, give the
• 1:40:25
Speaker 1: thought of increase. You can convey this impression by holding
• 1:40:29
Speaker 1: the unshakable faith that you yourself are in the way of increase,
• 1:40:33
Speaker 1: and by letting this faith aspire, feel and permit every action.
• 1:40:38
Speaker 1: Do everything that you do in a firm conviction that
• 1:40:40
Speaker 1: you are an advancing personality, and that you are giving
• 1:40:43
Speaker 1: advancement to everybody. Feel that you are getting rich, and
• 1:40:47
Speaker 1: that in doing so you are making others rich and
• 1:40:50
Speaker 1: conferring benefits on all. Do not boast or brag of
• 1:40:54
Speaker 1: your success or talk about it unnecessarily true. Faith is
• 1:40:58
Speaker 1: never boastful. Wherever you find a boastful person, you find
• 1:41:03
Speaker 1: one who is secretly doubtful and afraid. Simply feel the
• 1:41:06
Speaker 1: faith and let it work out in every transaction. Let
• 1:41:10
Speaker 1: every act in tone and look express the quiet assurance
• 1:41:13
Speaker 1: that you are getting rich, that you are already rich.
• 1:41:16
Speaker 1: Words will not be necessary to communicate this feeling to others.
• 1:41:20
Speaker 1: They will feel the sense of increase when in your presence,
• 1:41:23
Speaker 1: and will be attracted to you again. You must so
• 1:41:26
Speaker 1: impress others that they will feel that in associating with you,
• 1:41:29
Speaker 1: they will get increase for themselves. See that you give
• 1:41:33
Speaker 1: them a use of value greater than the cash value
• 1:41:35
Speaker 1: you are taking from them. Take an honest pride in
• 1:41:38
Speaker 1: doing this, and let everybody know it, and you will
• 1:41:41
Speaker 1: have no lack of customers. People will go where they
• 1:41:45
Speaker 1: are given increase, and the Supreme, which desires increase in all,
• 1:41:48
Speaker 1: and which knows all, will move toward you. Men and
• 1:41:51
Speaker 1: women who have never heard of you. Your business will
• 1:41:55
Speaker 1: increase rapidly, and you will be surprised at the unexpected
• 1:41:58
Speaker 1: benefits which will come to you. You will be able
• 1:42:01
Speaker 1: from day to day to make larger combinations, secure greater advantages,
• 1:42:06
Speaker 1: and to go on into a more congenial vocation if
• 1:42:09
Speaker 1: you desire to do so. But in doing all this,
• 1:42:12
Speaker 1: you must never lose sight of your vision of what
• 1:42:14
Speaker 1: you want, or your faith and purpose to get what
• 1:42:17
Speaker 1: you want. Let me here give you another word of
• 1:42:20
Speaker 1: caution in regard to motives, beware of the insidious tentation
• 1:42:24
Speaker 1: to seek for power over other men. Nothing is so
• 1:42:27
Speaker 1: pleasant to the informed or partially developed mind as the
• 1:42:30
Speaker 1: exercise of power or domination over others. The desire to
• 1:42:35
Speaker 1: rule for selfish gratification has been the curse of the world.
• 1:42:39
Speaker 1: For countless ages, kings and lords have drencht the earth
• 1:42:42
Speaker 1: with blood in their battles to extend their dominions. This
• 1:42:45
Speaker 1: not to seek more life for all, but to get
• 1:42:47
Speaker 1: more power for themselves. To day, the main motive in
• 1:42:51
Speaker 1: the business and industrial world is the same. Men marshal
• 1:42:54
Speaker 1: their armies of dollars and lay waste their lives and
• 1:42:57
Speaker 1: hearts of millions in the same match scramble for power
• 1:43:00
Speaker 1: over others. Commercial kings, like political kings, are inspired by
• 1:43:05
Speaker 1: the lust for power. Jesus so in this desire for mastery,
• 1:43:09
Speaker 1: the moving impulse of that evil world he sought to overthrow.
• 1:43:14
Speaker 1: Read the twenty third chapter of Matthew and see how
• 1:43:17
Speaker 1: he pictures the lust of the Pharisees to be called master,
• 1:43:20
Speaker 1: to sit in the high places, to domineer over others,
• 1:43:23
Speaker 1: and to lay burdens on the backs of the less
• 1:43:25
Speaker 1: fortunate and Note how he compares this lust for domination
• 1:43:29
Speaker 1: with the brotherly seeking for the common good to which
• 1:43:32
Speaker 1: he calls his disciples. Look out for the temptation to
• 1:43:35
Speaker 1: seek for authority, to become a master, to be considered
• 1:43:39
Speaker 1: as one who is above the common herd, to impress
• 1:43:41
Speaker 1: others by lavish display, and so on. The mind that
• 1:43:45
Speaker 1: seeks for mastery over others is the competitive mind, and
• 1:43:48
Speaker 1: the competitive mind is not the creative one. In order
• 1:43:52
Speaker 1: to master your environment and your destiny, it is not
• 1:43:55
Speaker 1: at all necessary that you should rule over your fellow men.
• 1:43:58
Speaker 1: And indeed, when you fall into the world struggle for
• 1:44:00
Speaker 1: the high places, you begin to be conquered by faith
• 1:44:03
Speaker 1: and environment, and you are getting rich becomes a matter
• 1:44:06
Speaker 1: of chance and speculation. Beware of the competitive mind. No
• 1:44:11
Speaker 1: better statement of the principle of creative action can be
• 1:44:14
Speaker 1: formulated than the favorite declaration of the late Golden rule
• 1:44:18
Speaker 1: Jones of Toledo. What I want for myself, I want
• 1:44:21
Speaker 1: for everybody the right to be rich. Whatever may be
• 1:44:26
Speaker 1: said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it
• 1:44:29
Speaker 1: is not possible to live a really complete or successful
• 1:44:31
Speaker 1: life unless one is rich. No man can rise to
• 1:44:34
Speaker 1: his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless
• 1:44:38
Speaker 1: he has plenty of money for to unfold the soul
• 1:44:41
Speaker 1: on to develop talent, he must have many things to use,
• 1:44:44
Speaker 1: and he cannot have these things unless he has money
• 1:44:46
Speaker 1: to buy them with. A man develops in mind, soul,
• 1:44:50
Speaker 1: and body by making use of things, and society is
• 1:44:53
Speaker 1: so organized that man must have money in order to
• 1:44:55
Speaker 1: become the possessor of things. Therefore, the basis of all
• 1:44:58
Speaker 1: advancement for a man must be the science of getting rich.
• 1:45:02
Speaker 1: The object of all life is development, and everything that
• 1:45:06
Speaker 1: lives has an alienable right to all the development it
• 1:45:08
Speaker 1: is capable of attaining. Man's right to life means his
• 1:45:12
Speaker 1: right to have the free and unrestricted use of all
• 1:45:14
Speaker 1: the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual,
• 1:45:18
Speaker 1: and physical unfoldment, or in other words, his right to
• 1:45:22
Speaker 1: be rich. In this book I shall not speak of
• 1:45:25
Speaker 1: riches in a figurative way. To be really rich does
• 1:45:28
Speaker 1: not mean to be satisfied or contended with a little.
• 1:45:31
Speaker 1: No man ought to be satisfied with a little if
• 1:45:33
Speaker 1: he is capable of using and enjoying more. The purpose
• 1:45:36
Speaker 1: of nature is advancement and unfoldment of life. And every
• 1:45:40
Speaker 1: man should have all that can contribute to the power, elegance, beauty,
• 1:45:43
Speaker 1: and richness of life. To be content with less is sinful.
• 1:45:48
Speaker 1: The man who owns all he wants for the living
• 1:45:50
Speaker 1: of all the life he is capable of living is rich,
• 1:45:54
Speaker 1: and no man who has not plenty of money can
• 1:45:56
Speaker 1: have all he wants. Life has advanced so far and
• 1:46:00
Speaker 1: becomes so complex that even the most ordinary man or
• 1:46:03
Speaker 1: woman requires a great amount of wealth in order to
• 1:46:06
Speaker 1: live in a manner that even approaches completeness. Every person
• 1:46:10
Speaker 1: naturally wants to become all that they are capable of becoming.
• 1:46:13
Speaker 1: This desire to realize innate possibilities is inherent in human nature.
• 1:46:18
Speaker 1: We cannot help wanting to be all that we can be.
• 1:46:21
Speaker 1: Success in life is becoming what you want to be.
• 1:46:24
Speaker 1: You can become what you want to be only by
• 1:46:26
Speaker 1: making use of things, and you can have the free
• 1:46:28
Speaker 1: use of things only as you become rich enough to
• 1:46:31
Speaker 1: buy them. To understand the science of getting rich is
• 1:46:34
Speaker 1: therefore the most essential of all knowledge. There is nothing
• 1:46:37
Speaker 1: wrong in wanting to get rich. The desire for riches
• 1:46:41
Speaker 1: is really the desire for a richer, fuller, and more
• 1:46:44
Speaker 1: abundant life. And that desire is praiseworthy. The man who
• 1:46:48
Speaker 1: does not desire to live more abundantly is abnormal, and
• 1:46:51
Speaker 1: so the man who does not desire to have money
• 1:46:53
Speaker 1: enough to buy all he wants is abnormal. There are
• 1:46:56
Speaker 1: three motives for which we live. We live for the body,
• 1:47:00
Speaker 1: will live for the mind, will live for the soul.
• 1:47:03
Speaker 1: No one of these is better or holier than the other.
• 1:47:06
Speaker 1: All are alike desirable, and no one of the three body, mind,
• 1:47:10
Speaker 1: or soul can live fully if either of the others
• 1:47:12
Speaker 1: is cut short of full life and expression. It is
• 1:47:16
Speaker 1: not right or noble to live only for the soul
• 1:47:18
Speaker 1: and deny mind or body, and it is wrong to
• 1:47:21
Speaker 1: live for the intellect and deny body or soul. We
• 1:47:24
Speaker 1: are all acquainted with the loss some consequences of living
• 1:47:27
Speaker 1: for the body and denying both mind and soul, and
• 1:47:30
Speaker 1: we can see that real life means the complete expression
• 1:47:33
Speaker 1: of all that man can give forth through body, mind,
• 1:47:36
Speaker 1: and soul. Whatever he can say, no man can be
• 1:47:40
Speaker 1: really happy or satisfied unless his body is living fully
• 1:47:42
Speaker 1: in every function, and unless the same is true for
• 1:47:45
Speaker 1: his mind and his soul. Wherever there is unexpressed possibility
• 1:47:50
Speaker 1: or function, not performed, there is unsatisfied desire. Desire is
• 1:47:54
Speaker 1: possibility seeking expression or function seeking performance. Can not live
• 1:48:00
Speaker 1: fully in body without good food, comfortable clothing, and warm shelter,
• 1:48:04
Speaker 1: and without freedom from excessive toil. Rest and recreation are
• 1:48:09
Speaker 1: also necessary for his physical life. He cannot live fully
• 1:48:13
Speaker 1: in mind without books and time to study them, without
• 1:48:16
Speaker 1: opportunity to travel and observation, or without intellectual companionship. To
• 1:48:22
Speaker 1: live fully in mind, he must have intellectual recreations, and
• 1:48:25
Speaker 1: must surround himself with all the objects of art and
• 1:48:28
Speaker 1: beauty he is capable of using and appreciating. To live
• 1:48:32
Speaker 1: fully in soul, man must have love, and love is
• 1:48:35
Speaker 1: denied expression by poverty. A man's highest happiness is found
• 1:48:39
Speaker 1: in the bestowal of benefits on those he loves. Love
• 1:48:43
Speaker 1: finds its most natural and spontaneous expression in giving. The
• 1:48:47
Speaker 1: man who has nothing to give cannot feel his place
• 1:48:49
Speaker 1: as a husband or father, as a citizen, or as
• 1:48:52
Speaker 1: a man. It is in the use of material things
• 1:48:55
Speaker 1: that the man finds full life, for his body, develops
• 1:48:58
Speaker 1: his mind, and unfold his soul. It is therefore for
• 1:49:02
Speaker 1: supreme importance to him that he should be rich. It
• 1:49:06
Speaker 1: is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich.
• 1:49:08
Speaker 1: If you are a normal man or woman, you cannot
• 1:49:11
Speaker 1: help doing so. It is perfectly right that you should
• 1:49:13
Speaker 1: give your best attention to the science of getting rich,
• 1:49:16
Speaker 1: for it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies.
• 1:49:20
Speaker 1: If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your
• 1:49:23
Speaker 1: duty to yourself, to God and humanity. For you can
• 1:49:26
Speaker 1: render to God and humanity no greater service than to
• 1:49:29
Speaker 1: make the most of yourself. There is a science of
• 1:49:32
Speaker 1: getting rich. There is a science of getting rich, and
• 1:49:36
Speaker 1: it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There
• 1:49:40
Speaker 1: are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches.
• 1:49:43
Speaker 1: Once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man,
• 1:49:46
Speaker 1: he will get rich with mathematical certainty. The ownership of
• 1:49:50
Speaker 1: money and property comes as a result of doing things
• 1:49:53
Speaker 1: in a certain way. Those who do things in this
• 1:49:56
Speaker 1: certain way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich, while
• 1:50:00
Speaker 1: those who do not do things in this certain way,
• 1:50:03
Speaker 1: no matter how hard they work or how able they are,
• 1:50:06
Speaker 1: remain poor. It is a natural law that like causes
• 1:50:10
Speaker 1: always produce like effects, and therefore any man or woman
• 1:50:13
Speaker 1: who learns to do things in this certain way will
• 1:50:16
Speaker 1: infallibly get rich. That the above statement is true is
• 1:50:20
Speaker 1: shown by the following facts. Getting rich is not a
• 1:50:23
Speaker 1: matter of environment. For if it were, all the people
• 1:50:26
Speaker 1: in certain neighborhoods would become wealthy, the people of one
• 1:50:29
Speaker 1: city would be all rich while those of other towns
• 1:50:32
Speaker 1: would all be poor. Or the inhabitants of one state
• 1:50:35
Speaker 1: would roll in wealth while those of an adjourning state
• 1:50:38
Speaker 1: would be in poverty. But everywhere we see rich and
• 1:50:41
Speaker 1: poor living side by side, in the same environment and
• 1:50:44
Speaker 1: often engaged in the same vocations. When two men are
• 1:50:48
Speaker 1: in the same locality and in the same business, and
• 1:50:50
Speaker 1: one gets rich while the other remains poor, it shows
• 1:50:53
Speaker 1: that getting rich is not primarily a matter of environment.
• 1:50:57
Speaker 1: Some environments may be more favorable than others. But when
• 1:51:00
Speaker 1: two men in the same business are in the same
• 1:51:02
Speaker 1: neighborhood and one gets rich while the other fails, it
• 1:51:06
Speaker 1: indicates that getting rich is a result of doing things
• 1:51:09
Speaker 1: in a certain way. And further, the ability to do
• 1:51:12
Speaker 1: things in a certain way is not due solely to
• 1:51:15
Speaker 1: the possession of talent, For many people who have great
• 1:51:18
Speaker 1: talent remain poor, while others who have very little talent
• 1:51:21
Speaker 1: get rich. Studying the people who have got rich, we
• 1:51:25
Speaker 1: find that they are an average slot in all respects,
• 1:51:28
Speaker 1: having no greater talents or abilities than other men. It
• 1:51:31
Speaker 1: is evident that they do not get rich because they
• 1:51:33
Speaker 1: possess talents or abilities that other men have not, but
• 1:51:36
Speaker 1: because they happen to do things in a certain way.
• 1:51:40
Speaker 1: Getting rich is not the result of saving or thrift.
• 1:51:42
Speaker 1: Many very penurious people are poor, while free spenders often
• 1:51:46
Speaker 1: get rich. Nor is getting rich due to doing things
• 1:51:50
Speaker 1: which others fail to do. For two men in the
• 1:51:52
Speaker 1: same business often do almost exactly the same things, and
• 1:51:55
Speaker 1: one gets rich while the other remains poor or becomes bankrupt.
• 1:52:00
Speaker 1: From all these things, we must come to the conclusion
• 1:52:02
Speaker 1: that getting rich is the result of doing things in
• 1:52:05
Speaker 1: a certain way. If getting rich is the result of
• 1:52:08
Speaker 1: doing things in a certain way, and if like causes
• 1:52:11
Speaker 1: always produce like effects, then any man or woman who
• 1:52:14
Speaker 1: can do things in that way can become rich. And
• 1:52:17
Speaker 1: the whole matter is brought within the domain of exact science.
• 1:52:21
Speaker 1: The question arises here whether this certain way may not
• 1:52:24
Speaker 1: be so difficult that only a few may follow it.
• 1:52:27
Speaker 1: This cannot be true, as we have seen so far
• 1:52:29
Speaker 1: as natural ability is concerned. Talented people get rich and
• 1:52:34
Speaker 1: blockheads get rich Intellectually brilliant people get rich, and very
• 1:52:38
Speaker 1: stupid people get rich. Physically strong people get rich, and
• 1:52:42
Speaker 1: we can sickly people get rich. Some degree of ability
• 1:52:45
Speaker 1: to think and understand is of course essential, but in
• 1:52:49
Speaker 1: so far natural ability is concerned. Any man or woman
• 1:52:52
Speaker 1: who has sense enough to read and understand these words
• 1:52:54
Speaker 1: can certainly get rich. Also, we have seen that it
• 1:52:58
Speaker 1: is not a matter of environment. Location counts for something.
• 1:53:01
Speaker 1: One would not go to the heart of the Sahara
• 1:53:03
Speaker 1: and expect to do successful business. Getting rich involves the
• 1:53:07
Speaker 1: necessity of dealing with men, and of being where there
• 1:53:10
Speaker 1: are people to deal with. And if these people are
• 1:53:13
Speaker 1: inclined to deal in the way you want to deal,
• 1:53:15
Speaker 1: so much the better. But that is about as far
• 1:53:18
Speaker 1: as environment goes. If anybody else in your town can
• 1:53:21
Speaker 1: get rich, so can you, And if anybody else in
• 1:53:24
Speaker 1: your state can get rich, so can you. Again, it
• 1:53:27
Speaker 1: is not a matter of choosing some particular business or profession.
• 1:53:31
Speaker 1: People get rich in every business and in every profession,
• 1:53:34
Speaker 1: while they are next door neighbors on the same vocation
• 1:53:37
Speaker 1: remain in poverty. It is true that you will do
• 1:53:40
Speaker 1: best in a business which you like and which is
• 1:53:42
Speaker 1: congenial to you. And if you have certain talents which
• 1:53:45
Speaker 1: are well developed, you will do best in a business
• 1:53:48
Speaker 1: which calls for the exercise of those talents. Also, you
• 1:53:52
Speaker 1: will do best in a business which is suited to
• 1:53:54
Speaker 1: your locality. An ice cream parlor would do better in
• 1:53:57
Speaker 1: a warm climate than in Greenland, and the salmon fishery
• 1:54:00
Speaker 1: would succeed better in the Northwest than in Florida, where
• 1:54:03
Speaker 1: there are no salmon. But aside from these general limitations,
• 1:54:07
Speaker 1: getting rich is not dependent upon your engaging in some
• 1:54:10
Speaker 1: particular business, but upon your learning to do things in
• 1:54:13
Speaker 1: a certain way. If you are now in business and
• 1:54:15
Speaker 1: everybody else in your locality is getting rich in the
• 1:54:18
Speaker 1: same business, while you are not getting rich, it is
• 1:54:20
Speaker 1: because you are not doing things in the same way
• 1:54:22
Speaker 1: that the other person is doing them. No one is
• 1:54:25
Speaker 1: prevented from getting rich by lack of capital. True, as
• 1:54:28
Speaker 1: you get capital, the increase becomes more easy and rapid.
• 1:54:31
Speaker 1: But one who has capital is already rich and does
• 1:54:34
Speaker 1: not need to consider how to become so. No matter
• 1:54:37
Speaker 1: how poor you may be, if you begin to do
• 1:54:40
Speaker 1: things in a certain way, you will begin to get rich,
• 1:54:43
Speaker 1: and you will begin to have capital. The getting of
• 1:54:45
Speaker 1: capital is a part of the process of getting rich,
• 1:54:48
Speaker 1: and it is a part of the result which invariably
• 1:54:51
Speaker 1: follows the doing of things in a certain way. You
• 1:54:54
Speaker 1: may be the poorest man on the continent and be
• 1:54:56
Speaker 1: deeply in debt. You may have neither friends, influence, nor resources.
• 1:55:01
Speaker 1: But if you begin to do things in this way,
• 1:55:03
Speaker 1: you must infallibly begin to get rich. For like causes
• 1:55:07
Speaker 1: must produce like effects. If you have no capital, you
• 1:55:10
Speaker 1: can get capital. If you are in the wrong business,
• 1:55:13
Speaker 1: you can get into the right business. If you are
• 1:55:15
Speaker 1: in the wrong location, you can go to the right location.
• 1:55:18
Speaker 1: And you can do so by beginning in your present
• 1:55:20
Speaker 1: business and in your present location, to do things in
• 1:55:23
Speaker 1: a certain way which causes success. Thinking in a certain way.
• 1:55:29
Speaker 1: Turn back to chapter six and read again the story
• 1:55:31
Speaker 1: of the man who formed the mental image of his house,
• 1:55:34
Speaker 1: and you will get a fair idea of the initial
• 1:55:36
Speaker 1: step toward getting rich. You must form a clear and
• 1:55:39
Speaker 1: definite mental picture of what you want. You cannot transmit
• 1:55:42
Speaker 1: an idea unless you have it yourself. You must have
• 1:55:46
Speaker 1: it before you can give it. And many people fail
• 1:55:48
Speaker 1: to impress thinking substance because they have themselves only awake
• 1:55:52
Speaker 1: and mistic concept of the things they want to do,
• 1:55:55
Speaker 1: to have, or to become. It is not enough that
• 1:55:58
Speaker 1: you should have a general desire for health, to do
• 1:56:01
Speaker 1: good with. Everybody has that desire. It is not enough
• 1:56:04
Speaker 1: that you should have a wish to travel, see things,
• 1:56:07
Speaker 1: leave more, et cetera. Everybody has those desires. Also, if
• 1:56:12
Speaker 1: you are going to send a wireless message to a friend,
• 1:56:15
Speaker 1: you would not send the letters of the alphabet in
• 1:56:17
Speaker 1: their order and let him construct the message for himself.
• 1:56:20
Speaker 1: Nor would you take words at random from the dictionary.
• 1:56:24
Speaker 1: You would send a coherent sentence, one which meant something.
• 1:56:28
Speaker 1: When you try to impress your wants upon substance, remember
• 1:56:31
Speaker 1: that it must be done by a coherent statement. You
• 1:56:34
Speaker 1: must know what you want and be definite. You can
• 1:56:37
Speaker 1: never get rich or start a creative power into action
• 1:56:40
Speaker 1: by sending out unformed longings and wake desires. Go over
• 1:56:45
Speaker 1: your desires, just as the man I have described went
• 1:56:49
Speaker 1: over his house. See just what you want, and get
• 1:56:52
Speaker 1: a clear mental picture of it as you wish it
• 1:56:54
Speaker 1: to look. When you get it, that clear mental picture,
• 1:56:57
Speaker 1: you must have continually in mind, as the sailor has
• 1:57:00
Speaker 1: in mind the port toward which he is sailing the ship.
• 1:57:04
Speaker 1: You must keep your face toward it all the time.
• 1:57:06
Speaker 1: You must no more lose sight of it than the
• 1:57:09
Speaker 1: steersman loses sight of the compass. It is not necessary
• 1:57:12
Speaker 1: to take exercises in concentration, nor to set apart special
• 1:57:17
Speaker 1: times for prayer and affirmation, nor to go into the silence,
• 1:57:21
Speaker 1: nor to do a cold stunt of any kind. These
• 1:57:24
Speaker 1: things are well enough. But all you need is to
• 1:57:27
Speaker 1: know what you want, and to want it badly enough
• 1:57:30
Speaker 1: so that it will stay in your thoughts. Spend as
• 1:57:33
Speaker 1: much your leisure time as you can in contemplating your picture.
• 1:57:36
Speaker 1: But no one needs to take exercises to concentrate his
• 1:57:39
Speaker 1: mind on a thing he really wants. It is the
• 1:57:42
Speaker 1: things you do not really care about which require effort
• 1:57:45
Speaker 1: to fix your attention upon them. And unless you really
• 1:57:48
Speaker 1: want to get rich so that the desire is strong
• 1:57:50
Speaker 1: enough to hold your thoughts directed to the purpose as
• 1:57:53
Speaker 1: the magnetic pole holds the needle of the compass, it
• 1:57:56
Speaker 1: will hardly be worth while for you to try to
• 1:57:59
Speaker 1: carry out then instructions given in this book. The methods
• 1:58:02
Speaker 1: herein set forth are for people whose desire for riches
• 1:58:06
Speaker 1: is strong enough to overcome mental laziness and the love
• 1:58:08
Speaker 1: of ease and make them work. The more clear and
• 1:58:12
Speaker 1: definite you make your picture, then, and the more you
• 1:58:14
Speaker 1: dwell upon it, bringing out all its delightful details, the
• 1:58:18
Speaker 1: stronger your desire will be, and the stronger your desire,
• 1:58:22
Speaker 1: the easier it will be to hold your mind fixed
• 1:58:24
Speaker 1: upon the picture of what you want. Something more is necessary, however,
• 1:58:29
Speaker 1: than merely to see the picture clearly. If that is
• 1:58:32
Speaker 1: all you do, you are only a dreamer and will
• 1:58:34
Speaker 1: have little or no power for accomplishment. Behind your clear
• 1:58:38
Speaker 1: vision must be the purpose to realize it, to bring
• 1:58:41
Speaker 1: it out in tangible expression. And behind this purpose must
• 1:58:45
Speaker 1: be an invincible and unwavering faith that the thing is
• 1:58:48
Speaker 1: already yours, that it is at hand, and you have
• 1:58:51
Speaker 1: only to take possession of it. Live in the new
• 1:58:55
Speaker 1: house mentally until it takes form around you physically in
• 1:58:59
Speaker 1: the mental realm. Enter at once into full enjoyment of
• 1:59:02
Speaker 1: the things you want. Whatsoever things ye ask for when
• 1:59:05
Speaker 1: ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall
• 1:59:08
Speaker 1: have them, said Jesus. See the things you want as
• 1:59:13
Speaker 1: if they were actually around you all the time. See
• 1:59:16
Speaker 1: yourself as owning and using them. Make use of them
• 1:59:19
Speaker 1: in imagination, just as you will use them when they
• 1:59:22
Speaker 1: are your tankable possessions. Dwell upon your mental picture until
• 1:59:25
Speaker 1: it is clear and distinct, and then take the mental
• 1:59:28
Speaker 1: latitude of ownership toward everything in that picture. Take possession
• 1:59:32
Speaker 1: of it in mind, in the full faith that it
• 1:59:35
Speaker 1: is actually yours. Hold to dis mental ownership. Do not
• 1:59:39
Speaker 1: favor for an instant in the faith that it is real.
• 1:59:42
Speaker 1: And remember what was said in the preceding chapter about gratitude.
• 1:59:46
Speaker 1: Be as thankful for it all the time as you
• 1:59:49
Speaker 1: expect it to be when it has taken form. The
• 1:59:51
Speaker 1: man who can sincerely thank God for the things which
• 1:59:54
Speaker 1: as yet he owns only in imagination, has real faith.
• 1:59:58
Speaker 1: He will get rich. He will cause the creation of
• 2:00:01
Speaker 1: whatsoever he wants. You do not need to pray repeatedly
• 2:00:05
Speaker 1: for things you want. It is not necessary to tell
• 2:00:07
Speaker 1: God about it every day. Use not paying repetitions, as
• 2:00:11
Speaker 1: the heathen do, said Jesus to his pupils. For your
• 2:00:14
Speaker 1: father knoweth that ye have need of these things before
• 2:00:17
Speaker 1: ye ask him. Your part is to intelligently formulate your
• 2:00:21
Speaker 1: desire for the things which make for a larger life,
• 2:00:24
Speaker 1: and to get these desire arranged into a coherent whole
• 2:00:28
Speaker 1: and then to impress this whole desire upon the formless substance,
• 2:00:31
Speaker 1: which has the power and the will to bring you
• 2:00:33
Speaker 1: what you want. You do not make this impression by
• 2:00:37
Speaker 1: repeating strings of words. You make it by holding the
• 2:00:40
Speaker 1: vision with unshakable purpose to attain it, and with steadfast
• 2:00:44
Speaker 1: faith that you do attain it. The answer to prayer
• 2:00:47
Speaker 1: is not according to your faith while you are talking,
• 2:00:50
Speaker 1: but according to your faith while you are working. You
• 2:00:53
Speaker 1: cannot impress the mind of God by having a special
• 2:00:56
Speaker 1: sabbath they set apart to tell him what you want
• 2:00:58
Speaker 1: and the forgetting him youduring the rest of the week.
• 2:01:01
Speaker 1: You cannot impress him by having special hours to go
• 2:01:04
Speaker 1: into your closet and pray, if you then dismiss the
• 2:01:07
Speaker 1: matter from your mind until the hour of prayer comes again.
• 2:01:10
Speaker 1: Oral prayer is well enough and has its effects, especially
• 2:01:14
Speaker 1: upon yourself, in clarifying your vision and strengthening your faith.
• 2:01:18
Speaker 1: But it is not your oral petitions which get you
• 2:01:21
Speaker 1: what you want. In order to get rich, you do
• 2:01:24
Speaker 1: not need a sweet hour of prayer. You need to
• 2:01:26
Speaker 1: pray without ceasing, and by prayer I me in holding
• 2:01:30
Speaker 1: steadily to your vision with the purpose to cause its creation.
• 2:01:33
Speaker 1: Into solid form, and the faith that you are doing so,
• 2:01:37
Speaker 1: believe that ye receive them. The whole matter turns on
• 2:01:41
Speaker 1: receiving once you have clearly formed your vision. When you
• 2:01:44
Speaker 1: have formed it, it is well to make an oral
• 2:01:47
Speaker 1: statement addressing the Supreme in reverent prayer, and from that
• 2:01:51
Speaker 1: moment you must in mind receive what you ask for.
• 2:01:55
Speaker 1: Live in the new house, wear the fine clothes, ride
• 2:01:58
Speaker 1: in the automobile, gone the journey, and confidently plan for
• 2:02:02
Speaker 1: greater journeys. Think and speak of all the things you
• 2:02:05
Speaker 1: have asked for in terms of actual present ownership. Imagine
• 2:02:09
Speaker 1: an environment and a financial condition exactly as you want them,
• 2:02:13
Speaker 1: and live all the time in that imaginary environment and
• 2:02:15
Speaker 1: financial condition. Mind, however, that you do not do this
• 2:02:19
Speaker 1: as a mere dreamer or castle builder. Hold to the
• 2:02:22
Speaker 1: faith that the imaginary is being realized, and to the
• 2:02:25
Speaker 1: purpose to realize it. Remember that it is faith and
• 2:02:29
Speaker 1: purpose in the use of the imagination which makes the
• 2:02:32
Speaker 1: difference between the scientists and the dreamer. And having learned
• 2:02:35
Speaker 1: this fact, it is here that you must learn the
• 2:02:38
Speaker 1: proper use of the will
