- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Asterisk the Kingdom of Nubia.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Obelix takes over.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Hey everyone, it's Kilbert K here.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to my channel.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Asterisk and Obelix have spent years protecting their village.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: But how do you protect a village when almost everyone in it has turned into a child?
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: And that is already a good reason to pay attention to Asterisk, the Kingdom of Nubia.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: But the part that interests me the most is what happens when Asterisk got caught in the same problem.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Because now Obelix has to take more responsibility.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: And that could be where this adventure finds its heart.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the Gilbert K Show.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I'm Gilbert K, and today we're talking about the Asterix The Kingdom of Nubia trailer directed by Alexander Heboyan.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: We got a magic potion gone wrong, a journey to find a cure, and two old friends facing a problem that strength alone may not solve.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: The question is: does this feel like a fresh Asterisk adventure, or is turning everyone into a children an idea that sounds better than it plays?
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Let's talk about it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: For anyone coming into Asterisk for the first time, you don't need to arrive with a stack of comics under your arm.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Here's the basic idea behind this movie.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: The village of gulls is holding out against the Romans.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Their magic potion is a big part of how they keep doing that.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Then youth Elixir accidentally gets mixed into it, turning the villagers into children.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Asterisk and Obelix have to travel to the Kingdom of Nubia to find the cure.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Simple, clear, there's something to fix, people to save, and a journey standing between the two.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: That matters to me.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: A trailer can introduce 20 characters and five mysteries, but if I still don't understand why anybody's going anywhere, we have a problem.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Here I understand the mission right away, and I like that the trouble comes from something the village normally depends on.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: The potion is supposed to make them safer.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Suddenly, it's the reason they need help.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: That gives the adventure a personal reason to happen.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: They aren't traveling just because the next film needs a new location.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Their home needs them.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: But there's an important detail here.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: If you only hear that the village becomes children, you might assume Esterix and Obek spend the whole film looking after everybody else.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: The trailer goes further.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Asterisk drinks the affected potion himself and becomes a child too.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, the druid Panoramax has the job of looking after young villagers to work with.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: But there's an important detail here.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: If you only hear that the village becomes children, you might assume Asterix and Obedic spend the whole film looking after everybody else.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: The trailer goes further.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Asterix drinks the affected potion himself and becomes a child too.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, the druid Banoramex has the job of looking after the young villagers back home.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Now that gives us something to work with.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Asterisk is usually the one you expect to figure out things out.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Take him out of his usual role, and suddenly the balance between these two friends change.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: What interests me the most is how Obelix handles that change.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Does he become more protective?
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Does he trust his own judgment?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And how does Asterix respond when people can't treat him quite the same way anymore?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: And those are the questions I want the film to explore.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: The trailer gives us the situation, the full movie still has to give us the relationship.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Because making Asterisk smaller and is an easy visual idea, given Obedex a new reason, to step up could make that idea worth a whole film.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: I hope they let him surprise us.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: He can still be funny, can still get distracted, but I want moments where we understand why Asterisk trusts him.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Friendship becomes more interesting when the person who usually follows has to make a decision of his own.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: That's a part of this trailer I would put at the center of the conversation.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Now let's talk about the humor because this is where an idea like this can either work beautifully or start wearing thin.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: The trailer includes a moment involving an African white boar, which brings us straight back to Obelix and his appetite.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: And this is the kind of humor I want from these characters.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Something that comes naturally from who they are.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: I don't need them to stop the adventure every few minutes so someone can deliver a joke.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Let their habits, their reactions, and their disagreements do the work.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: There's a difference between enjoying a funny character and waiting for the next funny line.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: With Obelix, I want to enjoy the character, his enthusiasm, his loyalty, the way something that seems perfectly reasonable to him can make everyone else pause.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And with Esterix becoming a child, there's room for that friendship to get a little more complicated without losing its warmth.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: But I do have a concern.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: How long can the film keep the child transformation interesting?
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: The first time it's a surprise, and after that, the story needs to develop.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: I don't want every scene to return to the same point.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Look, these adults are children now.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Understand the idea, give it somewhere to go.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Let it change what the characters can do, let it affect their choices, let the situation create a problem they weren't expecting.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: And that's how you turn a good trailer hook into a good adventure.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And a journey to Nubia could help with that, provided the destination has a real role in the story.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: The trailer identifies Baobab seeds as part of the cure.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: It also introduces a plot against the queen and a threat from the Romans to the Baobabs.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: So there's more happening here than a simple trip to pick something up and go home.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: I like that possibility.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: It means that people they meet could have problems with their own, and two visitors may have to think beyond their original mission.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: But here's what I want the movie to earn: a reason for us to care about those people too.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Give the queen a personality, give the new characters choices that matter, let them help shape the adventure.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: When Asterix and Obedex arrive somewhere new, I want to feel that they're entered a place with its own life.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: That makes the journey more memorable.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: It also gives our main characters something to react to beyond another obstacle in their way.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And the best outcome would be that we leave talking about somebody we've just met, as well as the two characters we came to see.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Now, a few details about the people making this film caught my attention.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: First, Alexander Heboyanko directed Mune Garden of the Moon with Benoit Philippine.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: He also worked as an animator on Kung Fu Panda and Monsters versus Aliens.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: And that's an interesting background for Nestrix's film.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: It gives me a reason to be curious about how he handles a mix of fantasy, movement, and character comedy here.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Of course, a list of credits can tell us whether this movie works, but it does tell us he has experience with animated worlds and big personalities.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Second, the film has an original story with Alexander de la Patiere and Mathieu Delaporte credited in reporting on the project.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: They're also the duo behind the count of Monte Cristo.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: That connection is a fun surprise.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: The original adventure gives him film room to take these familiar characters into situation.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Fans haven't already followed in an existing story.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: For me, that comes with a clear challenge.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: You have freedom to try something new, but you still need the characters to feel like themselves.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: I don't want Esterix and Obelix to become strangers just because the story is new.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: I want to recognize their friendship while discovering a different side of it.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: And third, there's a familiar voice in the French version.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Christian Clavier voices Asterix, while Francois Xavier de Maison voices Obelix and Bernard Alain voices Panoramics.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: I'm specifying the French version because voice casts can change between languages.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: If you're watching a dubbed trailer, you may hear a different cast.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: And one practical detail, the current French release date is December 2nd, 2026.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And that is the French date, so check the release information for whatever you plan to watch it.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: Now, what are people saying?
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: I looked at some discussion around the trailer on Reddit, and these are reviews reacting positively to its look, and people asking questions about Asterisk appearing younger.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And that's a small sample of comments, so I wouldn't use it to declare what the entire audience thinks.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: What it does show is how much depends on people understanding the transformation.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: A younger Asterix could look like a permanent change if you only see a thumbnail or a quick image.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: In the story, it's part of the problem they're trying to solve.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: And that's why I think the strongest way to introduce this movie is through the friendship.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: Asterisk needs help.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Obelix has to step up.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Their village is counting on them.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: And that gives the longtime fans something familiar to care about.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: And it gives a new viewer an easy way into the story.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: You don't need to know every name or reference to understand what it means when a friend suddenly needs you more than usual.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: So where do I land on Asterix The Kingdom of Nubia?
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I'm interested especially in what this could do for Obelix.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: The premise is easy to understand, the journey has a clear purpose, and putting Asterix in a more vulnerable position creates room for the friendship to carry more of the story.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: My biggest concern is whether the film keeps building after this first transformation.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: I want the humor to grow out of the characters.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: I want the people of Nubia to matter, and I want Obedex taking responsibility to become something we feel rather than something the plot simply requires.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: If those parts come together, this could be a very enjoyable family adventure, one that gives younger viewers plenty to follow, and older viewers a reason to care about the friendship.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm hoping for, a film where you enjoy the chaos, but you also want these two to get each other home safely.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: The trader has given me a reason to be curious.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: The full movie still has to make that curiosity pay off.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Now I want to hear from you.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: Does Asterix becoming a child make you more interested in the kingdom of Nubia?
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: And are you excited to see Obelix take more responsibility?
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Also tell me your favorite Asterix movie.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: If this is your first introduction to these characters, tell me whether this trailer makes you want to give them a chance.
