- 0:00Hi and welcome to the Curve Weekly. The podcast that keeps you up to date with all the money,
- 0:06business and stock market tea. Everyone should experience for us at least once in their lives
- 0:10and Annie shouldn't miss out just because she can't afford it. Help me. I reckon put you
- 0:16find out. Take a deep breath. I think we both needed that. I think we both came in here and
- 0:29bring like really uptight. I just love how we like let's do Monday podcast so we have
- 0:34shit to talk about because we can talk about our weekends and then we're sitting here being like
- 0:38I don't want to want my weekend neither. It's like cool okay straight into finance stuff then.
- 0:46It's been a weekend. Do you know what though? I do have something to share. My friend
- 0:50said to me over the weekend that she has decided to ban herself from restaurants so she's not
- 0:56going to any restaurants. She's like I actually just kind of afford it so she's now eating it I know
- 1:00but that's me. That's for you and that's like a fair thing people get value out of different
- 1:06ways they spend their money. Exactly what I'm saying. My feelings. Yeah yeah but I eat my feelings too
- 1:11I just am happy to eat my feelings with them. It's so big. It's a bag of chips and bed watching
- 1:16gossip girl. Yeah whereas mine I'm going to a nice restaurant. I'm like I'm fine I'm fine. I want all
- 1:21the food. Every dessert place. Do you know what I found out why they give you breads before you're
- 1:28meal at a restaurant which seems so barbaric it's like why are you filling me up before I'm about
- 1:32to order my main. Also apparently eating bread or carbs that you should have vegetables as the
- 1:37first thing you eat for my blood glucose spike or something but bread they do it because of that
- 1:42because of the glucose spike makes you crave more. Makes you crave dessert. Yeah so it's perfectly
- 1:48timed so that when the glucose drops you want more I don't know there's probably nutrition
- 1:53so it's like this is so wrong but yeah that because of the glucose so when it comes to dessert
- 1:58you order dessert and there's some crazy set that it's like restaurants that serve bread have
- 2:03like a 50% increase in dessert sales something like that so but I went to a restaurant
- 2:07working and I was like eating the bread and I was like and I'm not going to get dessert and then
- 2:10they were like brought around the dessert me and I was like no I'm like I would love some chocolate
- 2:14room. No no I'm not playing into your game I know what you did with the bread. I know what you
- 2:18did. I also um my boyfriend got here from New Zealand and he shut up to fan boy. I don't like
- 2:30saying that it feels really really up myself but it was just because he listened to the podcast
- 2:35wouldn't really weren't before me you know. I he was saying similarly with bread and stuff on
- 2:40planes they feed you basically to like clog you up so you don't have like hundreds of people
- 2:45using the toilets the way they plan the meals and what you eat is like to stop people being very
- 2:50regular. I was like oh yeah that's how they know you if you're smuggling drugs as well. Why?
- 2:55If I'm on a long haul you're not eating it's like a huge red flag. Really? Yeah they're like oh
- 3:00because you've got something in your barn. And you're juiced. Yeah really. Oh my god do people
- 3:05actually shout? So if I are anyone wanting to smuggle make sure you eat. If you want to make an
- 3:10extra buck this summer fly to Europe. We're not condoning it. Um no but I also eat to a bar
- 3:15and there was this couple opposite us. Hold on we yeah okay yeah so you're with someone. Yeah and
- 3:20we weep to pay and I was like you know what I'm gonna do a pay it forward. Cool thing. And I was
- 3:26like the guy I bought over the the machine to pay and I said to him I was like can I get
- 3:31their bill as well. I love that. And I mean gosh. That is so cool. And I was hoping I would tell them
- 3:40or they get the waiter to tell them I'd paid and then like you pay for someone else like you just
- 3:43like do a bit of a like yeah. I love that. Oh except we had two drinks which was like 30 pounds
- 3:48and then he went to get their bill and it was 120 pounds and I was like ah
- 3:51ah. Anyway I was I was like oh gosh I'm too deep now like I have to pay. No you don't. No
- 4:00and he was like yeah that's why I kind of bought over the two separate bills because I he could
- 4:03see what they'd had and like anyway and I was like oh I might just I might just leave it.
- 4:08Oh my god but that's a cool idea though. Yeah I thought that I just had two drinks but obviously
- 4:13I didn't say that I was about 20 pounds. I was like I think that's what I'm gonna try and do
- 4:17when it's not 120 pounds but yeah it's just like I see. It's such a lovely thing to do. I see
- 4:23people do it in McDonald's drive-throughs. They're like can I get the car behind you? Do they? Yeah
- 4:26and then the car pulls up and they're like oh the car in front already paid so it's like yeah it's
- 4:29like it's like it's like it's like yeah and also you're not trying to get unique kind of cool.
- 4:32That's like you're never gonna see them again. They're not gonna say thank you. And when it's tiny
- 4:37in the little amount I'm not saying pay 120 pounds for someone's night out but I yeah I think it's
- 4:43like when a little thing here and there like someone's coffee or so I don't know if someone
- 4:47if a random stranger bought me a coffee without me knowing and like I don't know it would make
- 4:53it wait a day. Yeah. We just sprinkling a little bit of kind and then after the world. Oh my gosh
- 4:57they're so kind I want to be kind. Yeah yeah yeah. So hey what is happening in news money,
- 5:02business? What's going on? I thought you're gonna ask me like a specific. You know I haven't
- 5:07read anything. Have nothing to bring. Absolutely not. You're supposed to be on holiday girl. You're
- 5:11not like reading it. I like actually though start making an effort to just have a look at
- 5:14them because it's quite fun if I feel educated and I can bring stuff to the table. Yeah. Yeah
- 5:19when we do a little row reversal. Oh my god should we? Yeah next week. Okay. I'll be on the
- 5:24coast weekly. No next week's our live one. We can't do that. Yeah no you're not true. Next week
- 5:27we're out edit her letter hard as a way and she's like I'm so sorry I'm not here. We will
- 5:31like move the podcast record and we're like no no we can do a live we can do a live that's fine
- 5:35maybe we should practice with this one. Yeah. Oh no. We've already ramped for ways. Yeah.
- 5:41Yes finance finance finance. Oh god I feel like. Has it been a short week in the
- 5:47No I'm just like. Why are you feeling tired? I'm just waiting for this coffee to hit. It's
- 5:52really not um yeah it's not it's not working in. Damn. We can get another one up. Yeah okay.
- 5:57It's smoking like a true edit. I know. I had two in a row in the weekend. I was like two in a row.
- 6:05I had one like four PM yesterday. It was actually quite good. I love a coffee and makes
- 6:09it feel so alive that then I just feel so sure. Yeah. So there's a bit that's been going on
- 6:16in the meme stock space and I know we've kind of talked about this. Oh this is this like the
- 6:22pussy guy. His name's like roaring kitty. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. His actual name's Keith Gill. I've
- 6:27seen you showed me a photo of him. Oh yeah. He looks kind of scary. Yeah he does look kind of scary.
- 6:30He's certainly like a gamer room with like his game is seed and he's like roaring kitty. Yeah
- 6:34anyway. So meme stocks are back as we spoke about a few podcasts ago. The main one being GameStop
- 6:41which is a. What even is that? Yeah. What would you call it like a gaming store that you go
- 6:46by game? Yeah. That makes sense why that was the first one they did. So for those of you who
- 6:51haven't heard meme stocks are like when everyone is on specifically the platform read it and one
- 6:56person whose name is roaring kitty is like we should all buy this stock. It's usually a stock that's
- 7:02done terribly you know it's gone down and down and down and then he's like look we should buy this
- 7:07stock. It's heavily shorted which means that a lot of hedge funds big powerful people in suits
- 7:14and living in fancy towers in New York are very stereotypical. They've shorted a lot of the
- 7:20stock meaning that they profit when the stock does badly. So just like a reverse of buying a stock
- 7:25you're effectively like selling stock you don't own and then you're going to profit when it does
- 7:29terribly. If you've neither heard this before I mean the really you don't need to try to keep it
- 7:34high level. Yeah yeah but basically what roaring kitty is trying to do is if over all of the like
- 7:42hedge funds. Yeah because if he makes the share price of game stock do really well then they lose
- 7:48money. So like he's hit all the people on red air go and buy the stock that's doing terribly and
- 7:52the hope that it's going to then do better and then the hedge funds do badly. That's kind of the
- 7:56premise. Yeah yeah. So yes so there's actually to explain it there's a really good Netflix called
- 8:02Eat the Rich which is a great title and it explains everything about these meme stocks about
- 8:09game stock. Have you watched it? Yeah about. Oh sorry kitty. It's quite. It's more in kitty honor.
- 8:14Yeah yeah because this happened in 2021 and then more in kitty on the docker like does he speak?
- 8:19Yeah and so the whole thing is that like there's kind of two things that are illegal in investing.
- 8:24Inside a trading which is trading on information that is not public. So would that be like I know
- 8:30that Vick's going to sell all her curve shares and telling someone so that they sell their shares
- 8:35before Vick leaves or you head shares. Yeah I'm going to front run and I'm going to sell it.
- 8:39Yeah that's you're trading on information. It's not public knowledge. So CEO CFOs who are very
- 8:44privy to like financial information of a business they have windows where they can trade because
- 8:50yes that's once they've released information to the public then they can trade the issues so they're
- 8:54not I think they would be like it's a weird analogy but you know when I was vegan for a long time
- 8:59and then all of a sudden I started eating cheese and then I was just like down the cheese spiral
- 9:03and then I started eating a bit of meat and I was down you know it's a slippery slope and I think
- 9:08as soon as you have done the smallest little is it transgressions that when you do something
- 9:12no day so like oh my god um hey I'm called Bob you might want to know that blah blah blah
- 9:18yeah as soon as you've done it once and maybe gotten away with it I can imagine that people would
- 9:22just get too big for their boots and it would be a slippery slope and all of a sudden
- 9:27that'd be being pretty illegal. It'd be like if you stole a grape at a supermarket and you're like oh
- 9:31I got away with this now I can steal a pumpkin then I'm going to steal the wine and then yeah
- 9:36you just yeah yeah you get away with it it's also probably the thrill as well but anyway so and this
- 9:40is what people got a jail for like there's such strict rules around this and there's also ways of
- 9:45doing it where say you and me might be in it together and I might work at a very well-known
- 9:51public company and I know the financial results coming out tomorrow and they're going to be
- 9:54really really good and I will call you and be like so if you should buy a whole lot of stock
- 9:59and then we can both profit like there's ways there and there must be so many people doing it
- 10:03oh but there's like so many people watching really watching big trades before key information comes
- 10:10out oh my god yeah there's like and I remember this happened once in my old job and we went to I
- 10:16don't know if I've told the story but we went to visit a company that we owned a small small
- 10:21mountain in Australia and we went to visit the management team and we were sitting in the
- 10:28in the reception and we'd visited this company multiple times like I think I know sorry I remember
- 10:33this and we were sitting there and the reception was like nothing I'd seen before it was like so
- 10:40frantic people literally running running around like it honestly felt like there was like such buzz
- 10:46something was going on and we were like oh my goodness like what is what is going on here like
- 10:51this is not normal we've visited this company so many times you know receptions like a chilled area
- 10:56where people just wait anyway and this is what you get from going and visiting companies is like
- 11:00you know if the CEO is being nervous or like you know maybe the result's going to be bad yeah this is
- 11:04yeah the kind of human psychology side of things but anyway then we sat there we had a really great
- 11:08meeting nothing at all was mentioned or anything and we came out of that meeting we were like okay
- 11:14either shits at the fan this company is going to release something really bad and that's why
- 11:19everyone's frantic or there's something good that's going to happen and we kind of sat there and we
- 11:24did our research and what we'd known about the company and everything and we decided to buy more
- 11:30shares so we're like I think it's going to be you know I think the hum is the fact that businesses
- 11:34don't really well anyway so then we went and bought this year and then they came out literally
- 11:39I think it was like a couple days later with like this massive merger or takeover or something and
- 11:43we were like oh my god I remember boss saying to me make sure we got really good meeting notes
- 11:48on that meeting because you could be looked at as having some premium information and I was like
- 11:55panic station oh my god I was like but thankfully there was two of us in the meeting there was two
- 11:59from the airside nothing was said but it was just like make sure you're eyes across your t's with
- 12:05any meeting you have because it could come back by you at least now there's AI so you can have
- 12:11like basically recorded me yeah so anyway that's sorry there's two things that are illegal in
- 12:16investing and that's one of them inside of trading so trading on and so I think the other is market
- 12:20manipulation so and this is what roaring pluses yeah yeah yeah roaring yeah so there is investigations
- 12:29into his actions that is he manipulating the market because he's banding all these people to
- 12:33get it but then like isn't that what everyone's trying to do in investing like you put your ideas
- 12:40out there going I've invested in this hoping that he right now so well it's the same for us really
- 12:43and that's what companies are doing they're trying to sell their company to investors to move the
- 12:48share price I don't know it's such a fine line such a fine line well so he hasn't been convicted
- 12:53of anything no but there is now DIY platforms that are banning any trading in this stock and
- 13:00game stock because why game stock isn't it like they choose different stocks each time but well the
- 13:05one right now is game stock and he has shown oh is that gone back up again yeah so he's showing
- 13:10that he owns five million shares of games up so he didn't had a snapshot of his portfolio and he had
- 13:16shown that he's got about three hundred million dollars of stock so he is trying to encourage other
- 13:21people to do it yeah so that he benefits but that's but that's the whole thing that even these
- 13:25companies that short stocks they put out research that like this is why the company's bad in the hope
- 13:30that everyone else takes their view and sells the stock I don't know it's like with us we want to
- 13:35put out you know stock ideas yeah but then that's considered advice and if someone acts on that
- 13:40then they're going to buy the stock I know yeah so it kind of annoys me that he's okay to do that
- 13:45and yet if we wanted to go and research a stock and be like you know this is something that everyone
- 13:50should know about and like we're not saying goodbye it was just and we've done the research for you
- 13:53like it's quite annoying because I feel like a lot of the time the regulation is not benefiting
- 14:00the everyday person like I understand why there's so much strict like do's and don't and it comes
- 14:06to money and talking about investing but yeah I don't know if it sort of sucks because I feel like
- 14:10a lot of the time it's the rich get richer and yeah you know you and I who don't know what's going
- 14:14on don't that kind of annoys me yeah I just think there's a lot of people out there that are ill and
- 14:21formed that may say I own the stock because they want you right now to to benefit themselves
- 14:27yeah there's a lot of ill intent yeah because hello hello kitty oh my god what's
- 14:31roaring kitty roaring kitty yeah he could technically just be like totally if everyone over
- 14:38and sell when it's super high and make heaps of money and he's like he's trusting that he hasn't
- 14:42done that before but he could oh totally yeah I mean great way to make money for him he then
- 14:48sells his game stock picks another one buy lots of shares tells everyone about he's got to
- 14:51keep following me it's like that'll be like us buying lots of shares in Lululemon and then like
- 14:58guys Lululemon's on fire and everyone does it and then we if we had a massive community then they
- 15:02buy it and then we're like sweet we're selling now yeah it's just going to get just manipulated
- 15:07the market but yeah that's what I don't get so this is the greater market manipulation is pretty
- 15:13good yeah but anyway the company game stock because their share price has done so well they're
- 15:18like we're going to issue new shares because we can get a higher price for a little
- 15:23week and imagine if you're at game so they're just like guys I know yeah literally they're like but
- 15:28this is people are like it's not even a you're not investing in a company anymore you're
- 15:31investing in like a trading vehicle yeah yeah it's just like the company's not improving
- 15:36it's more gambling than it is yeah it's not that the company's improving the earnings are
- 15:39improving anything it's literally just like a bunch of people that have decided this let's use
- 15:43this company for our own money making it's kind of how crypto gets massive right yeah yeah it's
- 15:48just because it's the people and I think that's probably an interesting point for anyone who hasn't
- 15:53listened to this podcast for a while is when you're investing in a company you're giving them money
- 15:59because you think they're going to be growing in whatever way it might be like more revenue
- 16:03really cool new products it might be yeah whatever you you're like oh this is a really successful
- 16:08business yeah that's going to do well and I want to like get on on the action but in this particular
- 16:14situation there's years gone up for no reason of the businesses like you know created a good product
- 16:20well it's a really great just doing it to fuck with the hedge funds yeah they're not doing it because
- 16:24they think there's value in the business and it's going to do well so but the business that I kind
- 16:28of like it's funny I know it is funny totally it's like the great thing about social media is that
- 16:35you can rally people very quickly and jump on the bandwagon and screw other people over yeah but
- 16:42I just love it that now game starts like oh well our share price has gone up from $10 to $50
- 16:49in a month let's definitely capitalize on this an issue and you start get more money for the
- 16:53business then it might actually be the business does end up doing well yeah so it's like they've
- 16:58kind of jumped on the bandwagon which I'm like fair enough I would too if there was some weird
- 17:04thing that made the curve share price just like skyrocket would be like oh my god well this might
- 17:09not last should we just so quite quite funny but genius and yeah I guess it is the idea that
- 17:16they might not have originally been doing well because of you know the business doing well
- 17:20but this capital could make a massive difference to decisions they make and then it actually is
- 17:24yeah yeah yeah so interesting yeah there's a lot playing out here but he is being investigated by
- 17:31the SEC which is like the oh yeah we undercover last time he didn't say who he was and he
- 17:40he kind of had disguises and like he was very undercover and now he's come out well there's name
- 17:44his face everything so I don't know watch it's kind of like a little it's an ongoing I think
- 17:51I hope they do like an updated you know like a season two yeah I have to watch it yeah and other
- 17:56news as well we have a new stock exchange so yeah oh yeah so there's actually 13 stock exchanges
- 18:04in the US alone so we kind of only hear about the NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange because
- 18:09they're the two main ones in the S&P that's an index so index is a group of companies that are
- 18:16listed on the stock exchange and they could be listed on the NASDAQ the New York Stock Exchange.
- 18:21So the S&P is not a stock exchange no I get too close with that it's like a it's like an ETF
- 18:29yeah it is yeah yeah yeah so you have a group of companies that are a great barometer I guess of how
- 18:36the country is doing and that is the S&P 500 yeah yeah top 500 companies in the US and then you
- 18:43have the criminal a criminal of all 13 stock exchanges they take the best companies at the top
- 18:47put them in a big grouping and that's the S&P 500 yeah and the same with New Zealand they would
- 18:52have the NZX 50 which is the New Zealand top 50 except because we only have one stock exchange
- 18:57just like yeah we've got a few little ones but do it the main one is I guess it's 13 and
- 19:03yeah it's 13 and the US so I guess it's kind of and they they cater to different things so like
- 19:09we'd be like going to a farmer's market that's just for food you're like right I'm gonna go to this
- 19:13one there might be a few soap stalls yeah but you're going there to eat good food and then there
- 19:18might be another one that's like furniture yeah and you're like I'm going here to get tables and
- 19:22chairs but hey they also sell carrots so so it's the NASDAQ is the tech-based one it's more tech
- 19:29focus yeah Apple Amazon blah blah blah yeah there's all those big and New York Stock Exchange that that's
- 19:34more like like all these are master cards you know it's kind of got the but more old world ones
- 19:40but there's still some new tech names on there but yeah it's just like and when a big company comes
- 19:45to IPO or list the stock exchanges almost like put their best foot forward and be like oh we'll
- 19:49give you this we've got these other companies that have done really well that are similar to yours
- 19:53like yours will do well so they kind of try to beg for their business yeah so there's 13 stock
- 20:00exchanges in the US and there's a new one that's going to probably be probably next year
- 20:07and it's the Texas Stock Exchange so Texas is going to get its own stock exchange and this
- 20:14has come about because Beyonce's new album maybe definitely probably yes no honestly as you said
- 20:24Texas I was like Beyonce and I'm just picturing like the the promo video for the new stock exchange
- 20:29it looks like genius definitely genius yeah definitely bought back good old country music
- 20:36she's cool yeah no it's because the main stock exchanges have become quite cumbersome from like
- 20:42a compliance point of view they're quite expensive yeah there's a lot of paperwork all of that
- 20:48and some companies are like well you know what fuck this like I'm just gonna go and list somewhere else
- 20:52so Texas it's been one of the best performing states in the US really yeah so they're like you
- 20:58know what let's just start on the stock exchange and a lot of companies have actually moved their
- 21:02headquarters there so you've got like Teslas one of them really so they're now he'd courted in
- 21:06Texas kind of due to the pandemic a lot of the companies are like we don't actually have to have
- 21:11everyone in a real expensive state like New York you know we can go somewhere cheaper pay for rent
- 21:17in like London yeah from home now exactly it's like let's go somewhere where it's cheaper and
- 21:23most people working from home anyway it doesn't really matter yeah so does that mean that you can
- 21:28also then straddle a couple of different stock exchanges like could Tesla be on the Nasdaq and the
- 21:33Texas yeah there's a lot of companies that all Joel it's called dual listing so you list on
- 21:37multiple again you have to pay fees and have to be what's the pro for that you get access I guess
- 21:42to a different investors different investors bigger audience yeah yeah like so it's like for example
- 21:47like the podcast being on Spotify and Apple and everything you might be able to like only list on Spotify
- 21:53or like yes so New Texas stock exchange interesting yeah so one thing we I don't think we've
- 21:59actually ever spoken about isn't besting in like gold and like commodities we have deviled a little
- 22:04bit like not actual examples of investments but we've talked about the idea of it yeah so like
- 22:08investing in commodities has been by commodities I mean anything that lead a raw material yeah
- 22:15but also like milk powder cocoa oh yeah yeah like that's all a commodity that is traded around
- 22:24the world put into something else to make another product so yeah it can be oil it can be anything
- 22:29that is a raw material is putting something else I mean people have been investing in commodities
- 22:34for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of years like if you think of men coming back on like
- 22:40sailboats where they're bringing like actual barrels of oil and like I don't know you know
- 22:45with those those kind of I'm thinking like peaky blinders like wait before that you know where they
- 22:50all like sifting through gold like yeah yeah yeah yeah exactly yeah so back then used to buy
- 22:57the physical asset you'd be like I'm gonna invest in gold bars I'm gonna go buy your gold bars so
- 23:01would be like in the light safes when people don't have like bars and gold yeah or you're
- 23:05got I'm gonna buy a hundred barrels of cotton barrel I think that's a barrel anyway yeah so whereas
- 23:12nowadays you you can still buy commodities but you buy it on like a piece paper like it's like
- 23:17you owe me X amount of gold bars and then when you just sell the contract not necessarily the actual
- 23:23asset but still don't and so are there stock exchanges for commodities yes there's a lot of
- 23:28these based stock exchanges yep anyway you can invest in also ETFs that are like commodity based ETFs
- 23:35but anyway what I'm talking about is gold so gold is a really good inflation hedge so what I mean by
- 23:40that is like if inflation's going up it's like an inflation marker right yeah and if inflation's
- 23:45going up so is the price of gold if inflation's going up the purchasing power of your money is going
- 23:50down so if you've got money in the bank you can purchase less and less and less the longer it's
- 23:56in there because the price of everything's going up does it make sense so you still have a thousand
- 24:00dollars so you may have a thousand dollars today it's a grocery test yeah so you go to the grocery store
- 24:05when inflation's really high and you have a hundred dollars what you can buy is less than what you
- 24:09would have if there's low inflation yes exactly and so with gold because it holds its price like
- 24:16because of inflation is going up and up and up effectively the value of your gold is going up
- 24:20and up and up so when inflation is really high a lot of people invest in gold but is that so instead
- 24:26of having my thousand dollars in the bank for example I'm going to buy gold because and you know
- 24:33inflation is up 7% that means the price even though I've paid thousand dollars for this bar of gold
- 24:39it's it's still going to be worth a thousand dollars when I sell it in 12 months time whereas
- 24:45because I'm not using it to buy anything if that makes sense okay yeah so it's kind of like you're
- 24:49not guaranteed return yeah and also the price of gold tends to go up in high inflation because
- 24:54people demand it you know there's more people wanting to and usually when we're in high inflation
- 24:58it means that the economy is not really doing that well so it tends to do well when the economy is
- 25:04not doing well because I just go by heaps of jewels yeah like lots of gold necklaces or like you know
- 25:08cut yeah this or yeah definitely yeah but there's also a fashion element to that then as well why
- 25:13didn't you tell me that when inflation started going up why wouldn't you like hey you should go
- 25:17and get some gold I'm sorry well you know next time I came enough for my financial tips well
- 25:23we can talk about paradise later you're enlisting like yeah that yeah big word anyway so now in career
- 25:31you can go to the vending machine and you can buy little parcel of gold for a vending machine
- 25:37and the price changes like daily due to like correspond with like market movement to gold
- 25:43vending machine for gold yeah and so you can go and you can buy a little thing of gold surely
- 25:48with mr phase like in terms of as an inflation suddenly to come down so wouldn't the price of
- 25:53gold be coming down yeah but then if we go into like really terrible economic growth I don't know
- 26:00I know there's like also a long term thing you know it's like if you're thinking
- 26:04five ten years so we wanted to diversify your portfolio or if you had your emergency fund was
- 26:08just in gold bars oh no because the whole point of your emergency fund is you want to be able to
- 26:12use it yeah you want to be able to sell it you want to be able to get it and I already
- 26:15look going out if you fund yeah it's way more fun than emergency no I like that yeah emergency fund
- 26:20it's like yeah it's like it's like yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah anyway so yes the vending machine
- 26:28prices change on a daily basis depending on the price of golders but I was like how cool would it
- 26:34be if you could have a vending machine for stocks and so you went there and you know how you've
- 26:39got like vending machines with M&Ms and crisps and musibars and you put your number in I want G
- 26:4672 and it's like and it drops out but what would you get you'd get a share one share of what would
- 26:54it do with his paper yeah well you could make it something because that's my main and I think
- 26:57that's the difference I guess the cool thing would be say you were investing in like converse it
- 27:01would come out with a little mini converse it's like yeah that's yeah and then every day the
- 27:08prices change depending on the price of converse but I think I mean I love the creativity where you
- 27:15go with that there's only thing I would say is with the prices of things changing all the time
- 27:21as a newbie investor it stresses me out like the idea of going up and down and I get really
- 27:25hung up on the idea of like I know it's 20 cents more today so I won't buy it you know it's kind
- 27:30of like out of sight out of mine for me whereas there was vending machines all around yeah I get
- 27:34obsessed and I'd be like oh damn it's down I like I'm going line up for the vending machine in the
- 27:39middle of the night because it's like and you know I'll be able to put your money back in the vending
- 27:42machine yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah but I think it'd be quite instead of spending money on a sugary
- 27:47crap it's a good way to create awareness around investing yeah I think it is yeah maybe if there's
- 27:52any vending machine companies listening that want to like do some fun promo with us yeah let us
- 27:57know yeah anyway that was my love creative content I do yeah yeah yeah yeah but why this has
- 28:06been so popular in Korea is that if you think about the big movement to like fractional investing
- 28:13and cryptocurrency investing and like giving investing opportunities to everyone and so that's
- 28:19just the fractional thing basically is back in the day you used to buy a whole Tesla share yeah
- 28:23you have to have like what he wrote is like two thousand dollars yeah whereas now you can buy
- 28:27a portion of it yeah yeah so and this is kind of writing on that increase in demand for
- 28:33democratizing investing it's like no longer do you have to buy a whole bar or do you have to be
- 28:39with a broker that only trades in gold like you know you can just go to vending machine
- 28:43and get your own piece of gold it's also visible for every day person which I think it's cool
- 28:48and I mean I love that if I could get a birthday present that's just a bit of gold because
- 28:53it's almost 20 seconds oh yeah I'll just give some my Korean friends to send me
- 29:00all my Korean friends and then lastly we've got some new bank notes in circulation here in the UK
- 29:07guess whose faces on them not mine let me guess who's on the notes at the moment
- 29:15the clean yeah so who's new yeah yeah yeah
- 29:19cool though so yeah I mean they take they'll probably take a while for us to like
- 29:23actually see them when you get one can you see me follow yeah well honestly they've been going
- 29:26for like thousands on like eBay the first because people like having the first bank note
- 29:32we are so weird there's people that like yeah anyway well like even the first five or ten
- 29:38quite cool though if you had bank note zero zero zero zero one yeah really cool like that would be
- 29:43I wouldn't give that to the dairy owner yeah for my kombucha are definitely yeah yeah anyway yeah
- 29:51so the queen was the only the first monarch to have a face on the note so really so King Charles
- 29:56is only a second I kind of thought they might have done it for like King Henry the eighth and all
- 30:00of that so it's iconic people but it's not necessarily a given that if you're in the monarch
- 30:04area here on the nose yeah and a lot of them there's aren't there aren't faces on the
- 30:08well that just been the UK would that be all commonwealth countries would start thinking Charles
- 30:12good question do you know I love the name like the word monarchy yeah no it needs to be what it's
- 30:18what it means but it's quite a cool name yeah monarchy yeah it sounds like fun yeah but they're not
- 30:24taking all the notes out with her face and replacing them with his just like as they're damaged
- 30:28and it's like decently yeah but it's also I love that it's a photo from 10 years ago
- 30:34quite funny it's he building now and it's like he just looks a lot different I was like I'd
- 30:37probably do that so I'd be that vain I'd be like not my pride yeah yeah with no wrinkles and no
- 30:41grey hairs please it's so funny anyway yeah so people in the UK eventually see little Charles
- 30:49little Charles if you can hear that giant siren going in the background because if it broke
- 30:53our studio door just before we started recording and now all these wrapping noises that are coming in
- 30:57I know I feel like maybe we've wrapped this one up I know you've done lots of cool research but
