- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Hey everybody, welcome to the wonderful world of Rendit Radio.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: In this program, we are going to be answering your questions from the conference.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: It's going to be an exciting program.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: You guys stay tuned.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Well, guys, thank you so much for tuning in to this program.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We got a lot of uh exciting stuff to talk about.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: We're going through the questions from the QA panel.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: We addressed many of them there at the conference.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: You guys scanned the QR code in your workbook and passed it over for us to do some review.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: And we're excited to uh tackle some of the questions we didn't have a moment to tackle before.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, but I also want to kind of uh toss it over to my co-host here.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: It was a fantastic conference.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: I I really enjoyed uh being a part of it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: I loved seeing the prophetic ministry that took place, all the people that get encouraged built up.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: Uh any highlights that you guys want to mention from the conference?
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Uh Roundry, I'll start with you.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: You you've only been talking for an hour in our taping of our revelation series.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'll start with you and then we'll punt it over to Miller.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, man, my favorite part was the the prophetic ministry, which I can only attribute to prayer because it it went up a notch.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: It was really amazing to see.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, it seemed like maybe most people that we probably like vast majority, 85%, I don't know, were like, this is not just accurate, it's stunningly accurate.
- 2:10SPEAKER_02: I remember one guy being, I mean, I don't want to exaggerate here.
- 2:13SPEAKER_02: You guys push back if that's uh I mean, if that's too much, but it it was just they were stunningly accurate words over and over again, where the effect in the room repeatedly was God is in the house.
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: Pastors coming up and saying, I've never seen this before, I don't know what to do about my church now, things like that.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: And uh yeah, so I was just really blessed by the prophetic ministry thinking about like Chris Holder getting a word of a guy who couldn't talk for the first 20 seconds after he received the word, and finally he gets out like I'm speechless, and then another passage of time and finally tells a story.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: He's like, You just Chris had shared a vision, and the vision was the guy's dream.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: And then he goes on and talks through how point by point every everything applied to his life story.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: But um, that was the only one where somebody got an actual dream, but that I that I know of, but over and over again, accurate words of knowledge tested on the spot, and then I would even find out later of accurate things said that maybe we didn't even fully realize until well afterward.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: You know, like uh, you know, one of our prophetic team members had a had a pretty difficult word to share, and uh and the person in the audience that she shared with said, like, well, she came up out afterward, or they connected afterward, and and she uh and she said it was Anne who delivered the word.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: She said, I was in prayer this morning with praying with her family, and she's like, The Holy Spirit told me, You're gonna get a word from the stage.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be from that woman Anne, and it's gonna be a difficult word, which we actually usually don't share difficult words from the stage.
- 3:55SPEAKER_02: We usually reserve that for afterward.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: But Anna Anna asked me, and I felt like she was actually supposed to.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: That was my sense, and uh, and I'm glad she did because she shared with that family, and uh, and the woman received like advance warning from the Holy Spirit, this is going to happen, which would be a really hard like the chances that she would be right about, like that uh someone was gonna prophesy over you from the stage.
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: That's already only like the I mean less than a percent chance, and then that it would be Anne would be a fraction of a fraction of a percent, and then it would be the exact nature of the word.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Um, and yet it all it was all true.
- 4:33SPEAKER_02: So anyway, man, I was blessed by the prophetic ministry significantly.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, man.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: I brought my buddy uh, well, I brought a couple buddies with me.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: One of them is just a member of our church, he's not even in our prophetic team, but he's done the practice time with us and in counter nights, home group stuff like that.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know if he's done a ton of home group stuff, actually, now that I think about it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Um, but you know, I was doing my breakout, I was teaching, and uh my buddy's on the back row, and I go, hey man, I've only got one guy in here.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: You wanna, you wanna, you wanna ask God for words?
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: And you know, look of terror comes over his face.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Uh and I'm like, if you don't get nothing, don't, you know, don't go, don't share.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: And then he came up and he shared two different words.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: He got both occupations of the people that he gave words to, which I was like, dang, that's fantastic.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: And then afterward, uh, we're we're chatting a little bit.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: He goes, I got a third one.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: I said, Hey, go share that one with that guy.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, uh right after the session.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: I need to do some QA.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: We need to, we need to transition a little bit.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: So uh I had him meet with a pastor named Adam.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: He didn't know he was a pastor, but I knew Adam personally because he pointed him out.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: That's the guy I've got a word for.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: So afterward, pulls him a sign, starts sharing with him.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Uh he got it recorded, and he's like, Hey, I just see you.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: Uh you got a blueprint out, it's all rolled out.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: You got you got a group of people around you, and you're kind of planning a church out, and he starts talking to him about this stuff.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: And Adam's like, Yeah, the name of my church is Blueprint Church.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Like you just wildly like, even the people who aren't on our prophetic team are seeing some pretty, you know, tremendous sorts of things.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: I I thought it was uh a really overwhelming weekend, very positive about it, uh, and excited to kind of tackle some of the QA today.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: Uh Miller, any kind of big takeaways that you're like, hey, uh, loved this, love that word, love this time of ministry.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, even though it wasn't a deliverance conference, I'm sure you found a demon or two to take care of.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think you're muted, bud.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I'm not hearing you.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I see you laughing.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: Still not there.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Uh sorry, buddy.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Poor Miller.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I just we'll have to ignore him.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Uh that'll be it's a downside of doing live programming.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, I am have halfway debating, guys.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Never doing a live show again and uh only doing uh content that is pre-taped so this kind of thing doesn't happen.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: Uh Miller, let me punt it back over you.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: It looked like you called back in.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Still not there, buddy.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Well, we're gonna start tackling some questions uh and see if Miller can call back in and uh I don't know.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: I don't know how he's gonna fix that.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: But uh very first question is from Dana from Arizona.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Some of these are practical questions, some of them are in prophecy, some of them are in tongues, various subjects that we talked on at the conference.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: But uh Dana from Arizona says, How do you recommend delivering directional prophecy, if at all?
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Uh Roundtree, I'll punt it over to you, man.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: Uh I think it's okay.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: And I think you have to be careful and you have to put airbags.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: So the reason I think it's okay is that we see examples of directional prophecy in the scripture.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: But uh, you know, it's interesting that in Acts 21, where they try to give directional prophecy, like through the, you know, it says through the spirit, they told Paul not to go to Jerusalem.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: They were actually wrong to apply it in that way.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Their revelation was right because God never, uh God never misses, but we do.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And so they deliver a prophetic word through the spirit as Paul's language or is Luke's language for prophesied.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: We see that in Acts chapter 11.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: So they prophesied, don't go to Jerusalem.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: Uh, and it seems as though, and interpreters across the board agree on this, it seems as though uh they had an accurate revelation that there was danger in Jerusalem, and then mixed their human emotions in and said, Therefore, don't go.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: Agabus actually displays greater care there when he says, Thus says the Holy Spirit, uh, there's danger in Jerusalem, paraphrase.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: So he doesn't actually apply it, he doesn't actually give the direction.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: And so maybe that's a case for don't give directional words, but I don't think that's the message there.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: I think the uh the message, because we have other examples of directional words all throughout the scripture, Old and New Testament.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: And so I think the the greater message would be be really careful, don't be like those disciples of Tyre who mixed in their human emotions.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: And so if I was to share a directional word, uh I would say, Hey, I had this sense about dot dot dot, whatever it was.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: But man, you mean please pray about this?
- 8:51SPEAKER_02: And I always tell people never make a decision, a life decision, solely on the basis of a prophetic word.
- 8:58SPEAKER_02: Prophetic words are meant to confirm a leading you already had, or to get you praying about something that you hadn't yet considered.
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: But we shouldn't make life decisions based off a single prophetic word.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: Like prophecy doesn't eliminate the wisdom of Proverbs.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: It says in an abundance of counselors, there's safety.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: So uh I I talk to people when it comes to direction or directional words or just direction.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: I counsel them in the is it four Ps or five Ps?
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Um, you want to talk to like if you have big life decisions, I encourage people to talk to a pastoral figure, a mentor type person, whatever it is, small group leader, I don't care, but a pastoral figure in your life, uh, peers, you want to pray about it, perhaps get prophecy about it.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: And then ultimately, if you're walking through these steps, God gives you peace.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: So five P's.
- 9:48SPEAKER_02: And uh Sam wanted to add in a sixth P of providence, which is uh fitting for my uh very Calvinist brother in Christ.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: So uh anyway, uh yeah, I think that uh you want to be careful, but it's acceptable.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Excellent.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Uh Miller, do you have anything that you would want to add to Diana's question about how do you recommend delivering directional words?
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: Uh am I working?
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you are indeed.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 10:19SPEAKER_03: I was nervous about it.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Uh Michael and I always have the same kind of content for this stuff.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: We but granted we were both taught by the same guy.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, the only other thing I would add is I would say it depends on the nature of the directional word and and how it was given.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: If the person gave me a directional word and then they heard the audible voice of God, I'm gonna probably take it way more seriously than I did a person who um, you know, just got an impression and gave a directional word.
- 10:53SPEAKER_03: I'd also say that I would factor in how well you know the person, what kind of track record do they have?
- 10:58SPEAKER_03: Is this a person who's well known like Agabus to be a prophet, or is this a person that's you know just practicing prophecy?
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: I think those things also matter and should be considered.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: That's good.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: The only thing I would add is uh context of if if the question is, how do I deliver a directional word?
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Um, I would say context matters, right?
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: If I'm doing ministry with Miller and Roundtree, and I'm like, hey man, I was just praying for you and I got this impression.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't have to put any airbags on that.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: They've been doing this for a hot minute.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: They know what to do.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: If I'm at a conference that this happened, you know, I shared uh in San Diego uh when I was at Foothills, I went and preached there for their Sunday morning service.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I told them at our church, you come up and you ask, hey, I'm looking for direction.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: So uh I come off the stage, get done preaching, they're doing some worship.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Somebody comes up to me and goes, I'm looking for direction.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: He's like, he was like, do the prophecy thing.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: So pray over him.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I get a picture, I go, hey, this is this is what I think it means.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Uh it involved uh being trained in doctrine, going to seminary, learning things, and and that seems more directional.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: And he goes, Okay, so should I find a seminary and go join it?
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I said, Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: Uh no, no, no, no.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Like uh typically uh I give them some of the airbags on the front end, but he got straight to the question before I even had a chance to toss an airbag on it and go, hey, look, you need to pray about this with your group and walk through the peas that Michael mentioned and said, Look, you you need to make sure that this is something that is uh covered in prayer.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: And I mentioned this at the conference.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Um, God doesn't expect Israel to follow Moses because Moses says, Trust me, bro, there were confirmed signs.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: And I I think it is foolish for people to jump at the opportunity to do something if it has not yet been confirmed.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: So I like what Mill Roundtree said that we never do something based off of a prophetic word.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: But man, if you got six, you probably should do that, you know.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Uh if they're all confirming the same thing, uh, at some point you're being obstinate and you need to obey.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: Um maybe that takes some unpacking, but uh, I think people understand what I'm saying.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Uh question number two, James asks, uh, how can a Christ follower who is new to the prophetic and coming from a cessationist Baptist background, uh, cultivate an appropriate spiritual covering, accountability, and discernment so uh that he can grow in the prophetic ministry without becoming vulnerable to spiritual warfare beyond his capacity to handle?
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: I think there's some assumptions in here that comes along with this question.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: It sounds like if I don't have if I come from a space that is not privy to this way of thinking, if I start getting involved in things like prophecy, maybe this would allow me to be vulnerable to demonic attack.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Maybe he's saying that the prophecy uh itself could be coming from another spirit, uh, potentially.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, since I had Roundtree speak first, I'll I'll toss it over to Miller to take a first stab at this question.
- 13:43SPEAKER_03: I man, I'm sorry, but there's a lot to that question that I need probably more information on uh when it comes to accountability and covering.
- 13:51SPEAKER_03: The word covering is a bit of a trigger word for me.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: So I'm always like, what do you mean by that?
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: Um but I do think if best practice when it comes to learning and growing in the gifts, it's really good to be in a community that already has a an established practice.
- 14:07SPEAKER_03: If that's impossible, then I highly recommend that you create a community that can have this practice where you also at the very beginning set some ground rules.
- 14:16SPEAKER_03: You know, like we um some of the things I shared at the conference were a bunch of like do's and don'ts in my message.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: So um I'm assuming the person who asked this question was at the conference, so they probably have that notebook.
- 14:28SPEAKER_03: Um, but there's uh some good resources I could point you to.
- 14:31SPEAKER_03: Uh Surprised by the Voice of God by Jack Deere, um Beginner's Guide to Gift of Prophecy by Jack Deere.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Both of those would have a lot of like do's and don'ts in ministry.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: Um, but uh again, I think it's so much easier to learn and grow in these things when you have others you're doing it with, and it's already got a culture that's sort of set ground rules for these things.
- 14:50SPEAKER_03: And so, like this would be the kind of church that's gonna say it's not okay for you to say God said.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: Um, don't give directional words uh with any kind of authoritative voice, just simply submit them as a thing to pray about.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: Um, things like that.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: That's I don't feel like I'm being as specific, but I guess I think it's really questionable.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: I would say there are just certain words that you have to be extra careful about, and it's not just directional words, it would also be hard words.
- 15:19SPEAKER_02: Uh, there is a place for delivering hard prophetic words, but we want to be extra sure and we want to deliver it in a way that has the Lord's heart.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Um there could be, you know, we tend to have like a prohibition of prophesying about dates, mates, and babies.
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: And we were teaching about that, you know, because you know, somebody wants to have a baby or they want to get married or whatever, and you're like, oh, the Lord says you're gonna get married, then they don't, and then they're heartbroken, and all they're extra heartbroken, all these kinds.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: So we want to be careful because this can really toy with people's hearts, and we generally advise against it.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: But you know, I was training, we do a prayer team training uh before the conference, and I was talking about that, and someone raised his hand and he says, Like, I keep predicting that people will have babies, and it keeps happening.
- 16:04SPEAKER_02: Like, I don't know, I think he said like nine months later every time, you know.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Um, and and the same person has told me that in the past.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, and you know, he is like really accurate prophetically, and so I just say you just be careful.
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: I can't make an outright prohibition on those things.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: I think the Lord could speak about whatever he wants to.
- 16:24SPEAKER_02: We just don't want to be flinging that around from the hib.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: So I just think if it feels like it's a socially sensitive kind of word, be extra sensitive uh in whether you're supposed to share it or how you're supposed to share it.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: I think, like, for instance, in in Joseph's case, even though God's sovereign and even though God used it to fulfill his purposes, and it's hard to imagine how his purposes would have been fulfilled without this, Joseph is really portrayed as this kind of precocious little um tail-bearing bratty kid when he tells about, oh, I had a dream that obviously means you're all gonna bow down to me.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: He would have been, I mean, he he would have been better off not sharing that word.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: It would have been better for everybody.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: But on, you know, in the end, God redeemed it.
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: So hey, but I don't think the end justifies the means.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: He really shouldn't have shared that.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: He should have had exercised more discretion.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: So that's all we're saying is exercise discretion on those things.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm gonna read the question again because I am gonna make some assumptions about it.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Okay, so how can a Christ follower who's new to the prophetic and coming from a cessationist Baptist background cultivate appropriate spiritual covering, accountability, and discernment so that he can grow in prophetic ministry without being vulnerable to spiritual warfare beyond his capacity to handle.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: So the first thing I want to say is if God, if we're gonna take this, if God is the one who's speaking, he is empowering you by the Holy Spirit, the safest place for any believer to be is where the spirit is manifesting, right?
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Like we we want to be and the spirit's will for our life.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: It that sometimes means going to a cross, uh, sometimes that means uh, you know, living quietly, uh, working with your hands.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: But as long as we're following the leading of the spirit, uh, if the spirit is manifesting uh on the life of a believer so that they prophesy, he's not giving us a serpent, he's not giving us a scorpion, he gives good gifts.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: So I would say first and foremost, just because you're operating in a new thing with spiritual gifts doesn't mean necessarily that you're gonna have more backlash.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: The second thing is language of covering and discernment.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: I think Miller answered this question really well in talking in terms of community.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't have you would think, Josh, you guys talk on prophecy on your podcast, you do encounter nights at your church, you do home groups, you're teaching people how to do prophetic ministry.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: It must be crazy messy there with spiritual gifts.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: And I go, actually, it's the exact opposite.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, I know churches that don't do any training on spiritual gifts, and it's a crazy show.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: Um, but because we are talking about the pros, we are talking about what to do, what not to do, um, our space is kind of self-policing.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: The covering, the discernment is shared amongst the community.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: And people who are wise and well studied in the scriptures help one another discern and reason together.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: No one is doing anything absolutely crazy because we've we've talked about those sorts of things.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: We've showed how to pursue this with dignity and integrity.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, it would be like saying, hey, uh, we believe there are teachers and someone gets up to teach, but no one taught them how to study the Bible.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: No one taught them how to teach.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: That's gonna create a giant train wreck.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, however, if you have a space where you're saying, hey, we believe in the gift of teaching, and this is how you do it, and this is how you study the text, you you actually have a space to flourish and grow.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Um, so I would just say, man, that that that local community is your covering.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Uh 1 Corinthians uh chapter five, deliver them out of the house of God over to Satan for the destruction of their flesh.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: The idea there is if you're outside of the covenant community, you're in danger.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: But as long as you're inside the covenant community, I think there is safety and protection within that community.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: That's not necessarily tied to some kind of apostolic leader.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know if Christina caught this.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Um, this question number three is from Hannah from Montana.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: I think this is a pseudonym, uh Hannah Montana, the uh Disney character.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: And well done.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know who you are, but well, well done.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: No way.
- 20:14SPEAKER_03: If I had if I what if she really is Hannah from Montana?
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: It's possible.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: It's possible.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Um and if so, I'm sorry.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: Uh Miley Cyrus.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Um I I was wondering how you use the test a true prophet by the prophetic word actually coming about when sometimes uh it takes a long time for that to happen.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: She mentions uh Daniel's prophecies that still haven't been fulfilled to this day.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: Um that's a good question.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, how do we trust a prophetic word if it is predictive in nature of the future and it just hasn't come into pass yet?
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: So uh what do we do in situations like that?
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: I'll start with round treatment.
- 20:52SPEAKER_02: I mean yeah.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Okay, sure.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: I don't think there's a foolproof test.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: I mean, there's some basic things like if somebody makes a prediction about the future and they are modalists on the Trinity or they believe Jesus wasn't God, yeah, you you discard that word because they have false doctrine.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: Or if they're walking in open sexual immorality, uh, even as they pretend to practice Christianity and they give you a prophecy, you reject it.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: So there's there are some tests that are beyond just the word, such as doctrine, uh, right doctrine, right behavior.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Uh they need to align with God.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: But what if the person's really walking with the Lord and they deliver a predictive word?
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, what we normally advise our prophetic teams uh to do in our churches is we encourage them to seek the Lord about a word of knowledge associated with that predictive word because it can help confirm.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: And by word of knowledge, you can go back and watch our episode.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: I did one on words of knowledge and words of wisdom, but basically a divinely revealed fact around about somebody's life.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: So, for instance, when Jesus says to the Samaritan at the well, you've had five husbands, and right now you're with your live-in boyfriend, she says, Oh, I perceive that you're a prophet.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: And now she's going to listen to the rest of his words.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Uh, in the same way, if we can attach it to a word of knowledge and that becomes accurate, it can help with the confirmation.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: That said, there isn't always that.
- 22:21SPEAKER_02: And the Lord doesn't always speak to you with a word of knowledge, and it is just a predictive thing, uh, in which case I would say weigh it together, not just with yourself, but with the community.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, 1 Corinthians 14, the Apostle Paul, he doesn't give like a one, two, three test for how it's to be tested, but he does say the others are to weigh what is said.
- 22:42SPEAKER_02: So that means there is a safety and plurality when it comes to discerning a word.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: We don't know who the others are.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: Some say the elders of the church, some say the rest of the church, some say the other person.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: Prophets, but at the end of the day, it's a plurality, it's not just one.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Same idea in Acts 16.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: When Paul sees, when Paul has a dream of a Macedonian saying, Come over here and help us, he doesn't it he doesn't say, I concluded we were supposed to go to Macedonia.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: Luke narrates it like this he says, We concluded.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: So Paul has a dream.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: Together they interpreted it.
- 23:13SPEAKER_02: In the same way, if somebody has a predictive word of some kind, I would say you weigh and discern it as a team with a community, you pray about it together and you and you discern together if there's anything on it.
- 23:26SPEAKER_02: And I I don't know of any test besides the doctrinal test and the and the godly behavior test to provide this just a foolproof mechanism.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Uh I I don't I don't know what else to say, except, you know, Deuteronomy 18 does talk about if the word comes to pass, then you know, right?
- 23:44SPEAKER_02: Like, so there is something to just waiting to see if something comes to pass.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: That's not that's not like a fake test, it's a real test.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you may not know until it either does or does not come to pass.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: Miller, anything you would add?
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: Uh in Deuteronomy 18, he mentions a word that doesn't come to pass, and he says, this is the word the Lord has not spoken.
- 24:05SPEAKER_03: You shall not be afraid of him.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: It doesn't really seem like there's any instruction with that word after that.
- 24:12SPEAKER_03: And my guess is you don't want to falsely identify somebody as a false prophet just because their words have yet to come to pass, unless their words have been like, and this year this is going to happen.
- 24:25SPEAKER_03: Then you can know the word which the Lord has not spoken.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Um, but other than that, you don't know.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: And so your response to it is don't be afraid of that person or their word.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: You just kind of wait and see.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: Um, but I do find it interesting how quickly people rush to the false prophet assumption uh with predictive words that have yet to come to pass.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I the very fact that she mentions Daniel's words not coming to pass makes me think, golly, there would probably be some people today that if Daniel were prophesying, they would call him a false prophet because his words have yet to come to pass.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: Um so there's a bit of irony in there that I thought was interesting.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_03: And some would say Daniel's words have come to pass.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Some some on this call.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: Um let's uh let's take this uh idea and just say, hey, um you can test prophecy on so many different levels.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Um, the the quality of the way that the word is shared, and it could check all those boxes and still be wrong.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: You know, if someone is trying to um stroke your ego, um get something from you, and they're prophesying peace, peace when there is no peace, like there certainly is a possibility to future predictive words.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but we also know that there are some predictive words that uh have a time frame on them in the next three months, in the next six months, in the next whenever.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: Um I think our responsibility is to pray, uh, wait for confirmation and ask the Lord what we're supposed to do with this word.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Is this a promise?
- 25:49SPEAKER_01: Is this a warning?
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: Is this a direction?
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Like God gave Abraham a promise.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: You're gonna have a child, and and through your offspring, the nations are gonna be blessed.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: Uh and Abraham takes a word of promise and tries to make it come about by having a relationship with Hagar, and that backfires, right?
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: So uh a promise isn't something that we proactively pursue.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, a word of direction would be the opposite of that, right?
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: Peter uh rise and eat, rise and eat, rise and eat, gets out.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Hey, look, there's three times this vision came to him, and now there's three Gentiles who are unclean at the door.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: And Providence has unveiled that this thing to be the case, but the application is clearly go do something about this.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Go go preach the gospel to Gentile people.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: Uh so some of the times prophetic words are directional, go and do a thing.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Uh and then other times um they're they're warnings about the things that are coming.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: But you can't you can at times uh uh avoid a warning, but you can't avoid a promise.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Some things are fixed by God, and we'll only know those when they kind of unveil themselves.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: So those are just some things to kind of keep in mind.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: Uh to use some discernment, pray in community, uh, never have to do any of this alone.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Uh you're never meant to do spiritual gifts alone.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't do teaching alone, I don't do prayer alone, I don't do prophecy alone.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: It is done in community.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: And the more we can do that, I think the better all those things will be.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Uh and it protects us in a very intense way.
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: If God is going to lead us through a prophetic word, through the community, he's gonna help guide us to make sense of that with that community.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: So uh let's continue to rest on that.
- 27:19SPEAKER_01: Uh I've got a whole bunch of questions from Suzanne, uh, and they're pretty decent questions.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: I uh maybe I'll read them, I'll read them all at once, and you guys can think through them.
- 27:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe we just each of us answer one, but uh, how do each of you handle prophecy by fellow church members in your church services?
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: For example, are there any restrictions on the church body and who can practice it among the body when you gather?
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: That's question number one.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Who gets to do this?
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Number two, in your weekly church services, how do you each handle music at prayer ministry times?
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: Is there silence, live music, soft music?
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: I ask because the piece uh in this place struck me.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: Again, she's talking about her experience at the conference.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: The quiet moments during prayer times have allowed space and atmosphere um to be able to hear the Lord, uh, wondering if this is the practice at your churches.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: And then number three, uh, do you make time to practice the prophetic, uh practice prophetic words from stage in your church services or gatherings?
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: And how has that worked?
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: I'm curious how that has gone in the spaces where you actually know everyone in the room.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Um, so uh question number one, who gets to prophesy?
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: Question number two, what's your prayer time look like?
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: Question number three, um, do you guys do stage ministry, prophetic from the stage where you know everything about everyone in the room?
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: Who wants to have uh sure?
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: I'll start.
- 28:35SPEAKER_02: Who gets who gets to prophesy specifically on a Sunday morning?
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Is that right?
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: It it seems like that is the question.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: Well, so like who gets to prophesy?
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, anyone in the church uh uh could prophesy on any occasion.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: I I don't have I I don't follow people around and restrict what they're doing and when they go to coffee shops, you know, someone might prophesy to somebody else and might and they might both be fellowshipping in my that might belong to my church and they do what they do.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: I don't put any restrictions on that, of course, nor would I ever try.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Um, but you're probably asking in more official church settings, such as uh what we call them house churches.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: So in our house churches, house churches are pretty free.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: They they're uh they're really good at mutual upbuilding kinds of ministry.
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: And so everybody gets to play like right there and then.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: And so it's very common that we do prophetic ministry and kind of anyone can share.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: Uh, for instance, there might be somebody that we're praying over, somebody says, Hey, I need I need prayer over such and such.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: And so we gather around and pray, and I might say something like, Hey, and if you hear anything from the Lord while we're praying, feel free to share that afterward.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: And we might have three or four people share a prophetic word with that person afterward.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: Or we might have a new person to the group, and uh, and I might say, Hey, this person's new the group, why don't we bless them, give them a little prophetic ministry?
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: So let's just spend a little time in prayer and pray over this person.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Uh, we do that commonly, and it's uh usually a big blessing to that person that receives it.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: Uh on now, but we also do, we call our we call ourselves a church of house churches.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: I know that's probably different from most of you.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: So we do a full-fledged Sunday morning service and just like your traditional churches do.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: And we practice prophecy there uh in two ways, but but there it's more official, more uh, I don't like the word regulated, let's say shepherded.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Um I mean it's shepherded everywhere, but um but specifically in the Sunday morning service, one of the things that we say is that Sunday morning is for the mature expression of the gifts.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: So we don't ask anybody to just stand up and play guitar, lead worship, or we don't just ask anybody to teach, nor do we just ask anybody to prophesy in a Sunday morning service where you uh you might have hundreds of people present.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: You you want to vet it more.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: And so in that context, we have certain people that are vetted for what we call altar teams, and they'll pray for people at the end of service to see what God might be saying to them.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: They operate in teams of three, and uh there's a prophetic team leader who helps guide and shepherd that time, make sure nothing's off base there, and else also everything is recorded so everybody's accountable.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: Uh but we also do practice regularly stage ministry, and these are from our prophetic folks who have been vetted to do stage ministry.
- 31:34SPEAKER_02: And so at the end of the service, I might ask, like, hey, if you're on our stage prophetic team, if you're hearing something from the Lord, come on up, and then they'll share.
- 31:41SPEAKER_02: So that's how we do it.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Sir Miller.
- 31:47SPEAKER_03: I mean, my practices are the exact same.
- 31:50SPEAKER_03: There's not really much to add there.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: Okay, you want to answer the question about what about your prayer times?
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, we don't do any music, we just let people listen um for ministry time.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: So I mean it because we want people to be able to listen to the Lord, sometimes the music can be a bit disruptive and overpowering.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: It's hard to listen.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: So I think Roundtree tackled question one and three, uh, just like who gets to do prophetic ministry and then how do you guys do it from the stage?
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: Uh Roundtree comes from a rather larger church.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Um in the grand scheme of like American churches, he's not a mecha church by any stretch of the imagination.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: But like if the average congregation has got 60 people in it, Roundtree is well over that.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: And there it's likely that someone on stage is going to know the vast majority of people in a church that's got 60 people in it.
- 32:37SPEAKER_01: Um, however, if you've got a church that is 200 plus, it's really easy to do prophetic ministry when you don't know everyone in the room.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: Um, in our context, we had our team uh request, hey, we don't want to do stage ministry.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Not because um uh we we very well may move back to it one day.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: Um it's not gonna be a I I don't know that it'll be a forever rule, but because our prophetic team was so small for so long, when we first started, it was like we had the same two or three people who um were every week having to ask God for words in the middle of worship and they didn't get to engage in worship.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: And then we did prophetic ministry at the end of church, so like people would sit through all the preaching.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: And I have a prophetic person who's like introverted to their core and they are thinking to themselves, I have to get up and share this in front of everyone.
- 33:23SPEAKER_01: I hope I'm not wrong.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: And they were just worried about the word the entire time and they didn't get to engage in worship, they didn't get to engage in the teaching, uh, and it was a complete distraction for them.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: So we've changed our model.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, so like if you're asking for direction, you come up, we've got a prayer of two people who record that prophetic word.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: We stole this from Round Tree.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: You come up, hey, I'm looking for direction.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: We pull out the recorder, we record it, we share what we hear, uh, what we believe we hear from God, it gets sent to the person who is receiving the word and it gets sent to the prophetic team leader who can make sure all of our policies and procedures are being followed uh adequately.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: So um that's how we do it in our local community.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Uh it's very possible that our team will grow and then we'll reinstitute the uh public stage ministry.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Uh but as far as prayer time, um, we close out our service with the doxology.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: We all pray that I speak a blessing over the church and invite them to come up and receive either prayer on my right, their left, or prophecy my left, their right.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: And uh, and then everyone just kind of dismisses out of the service and people get ministry afterward.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: So that's how we do it.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Um prophecy question from Diane from Tennessee.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Today we practice as a whole group listening for God to speak either with an image or uh a word or a scripture.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, is this available uh to all?
- 34:36SPEAKER_01: And if this were available to all, that God can speak to all, um, why is this, you know, is this given to the whole body or just to some, you know, when it comes to the gift of prophecy?
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Uh and if that's the case that prophecy is given to everyone, why isn't tongues and healing given to everyone?
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: It's really a question about the scope of prophetic ministry.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Does everyone get to hear from God?
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Because we had everyone practice and ask God to speak to them.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: So what do we do in that context, gentlemen?
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: Uh I'll I'll toss it to Miller.
- 35:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so uh if you recall from the uh from the message that I gave, I tried to make the case that there if there was a gift that is most accessible to all believers, it's probably going to be prophecy, not necessarily tongues, despite what my brothers and sisters in the Pentecostal denomination believe about it.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: And the reason why is because of the democratization of the spirit.
- 35:22SPEAKER_03: And when you look at the work of the spirit, one of the main works is uh power.
- 35:26SPEAKER_03: And the vast majority of those references in scripture have to do with prophetic power in particular.
- 35:31SPEAKER_03: It's also one of the main signs that it that is said would happen on that great fulfillment, that eschatological day when God pours out his spirit on all flesh.
- 35:39SPEAKER_03: The overwhelming result is that people prophesy.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: But then you've also got passages that are really simple about hearing God, which I definitely for sure think is for every believer in Christ, because Jesus says these words, my sheep know my voice.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: And so uh I if I was to emphasize what gift should be the most common and the most practiced and pursued, I'm gonna put that gift uh at the top of the list.
- 36:01SPEAKER_03: And again, my reason for doing so is simply because that's what the scriptures teach.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: Now, if you were to ask me what I enjoy doing the most, it's probably not prophecy.
- 36:10SPEAKER_03: But yet I still want to be faithful to what the scriptures say and have that be the most pursued and or talked about gift of the spirit.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: So um I do think it is more common than any others.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: I do think it's highly likely that um I think that everybody can hear God.
- 36:24SPEAKER_03: And so these prophecy conferences are helpful in that capacity because we are just teaching people basic scripture on what it looks like to hear the voice of God.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: Um, how does God speak in the various ways that He speaks in Scripture?
- 36:37SPEAKER_03: And what do we do when we hear those things?
- 36:39SPEAKER_03: How are we to interpret what's said?
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: Does the Bible have anything to say about that?
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: So um, that's probably why we place such a premium on that, and it's also why we would demonstrate and practice it uh on a corporate level.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I might add uh every believer could prophesy theoretically.
- 36:59SPEAKER_02: Uh in fact, anyone.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: I mean, Caiaphas prophesies, and he's not a believer, he's part of partly responsible for crucifying Jesus, and yet he prophesied unwittingly unwittingly in John 11.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: A donkey prophesies in the book of Numbers.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: So anyone could prophesy.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: And God's people, the the spirit of revelation has been poured out on us.
- 37:19SPEAKER_02: That's what Ephesians 1 calls the Holy Spirit.
- 37:22SPEAKER_02: The spirit of revelation has been poured out on us, so anyone could prophesy on any occasion, but those who are gifted will do it proficiently.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: The same goes for all the gifts.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: We're actually all called to evangelize, but there are those who are gifted in evangelism.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: I think anyone could speak in tongues on any occasion, but uh those who are gifted could do so probably on command.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: That's the way it reads in 1 Corinthians 14.
- 37:45SPEAKER_02: The spirit of the prophets is subject to the prophets.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: You could speak up or you could be quiet.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: But uh there are there are those there are times when I think God might prod a spirit on a group of people and they all speak in tongues.
- 37:57SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean they're all going to be able to do so all the time.
- 37:59SPEAKER_02: I don't think so necessarily.
- 38:01SPEAKER_02: Uh and so I think any anyone could speak in tongues, like any believer might be able to speak in tongues on any occasion.
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: I don't think that's the same as saying everyone's gifted in tongues.
- 38:10SPEAKER_02: So that's that that would be my take.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: I think there's just a difference from doing something on a on an occasion and being gifted in it.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's fair.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: And I uh I I would just say those practice times are not a theological statement on my behalf that says, I think you can all prophesy or you're all going to prophesy right now.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: I think what that is is uh individuals not knowing what prophetic ministry is.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: And then once they realize, okay, we've done a training, we've taught you what prophecy is and the ways that God speaks, then you go, Oh, well, that seems simple.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: I wonder if God would use me in that way.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: In the same way, you don't know if you're gifted in evangelism unless you got into evangelism or gifted in teaching until you go out and teach.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: So one of the things that we're doing is we're saying, hey, let's ask God to speak, let's discern, submit that to people if you discern something you heard from the Lord or you think might be from the Lord.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: You might also go, hey, you know, I didn't, I didn't get anything.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: I just got quiet nothingness.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Don't share that as we instructed you not to.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Like, don't, don't feel it's not a high pressure environment.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: But you go, hey, look, uh, I'm gonna take a risk.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: I think this is what maybe the Lord said, and then we can verify, oh, this is the Lord, or no, it's not the Lord.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: So um, those times are not me saying, all of you can prophesy, will prophesy in this moment three, two, one go, as much as it is, hey, I'm learning this thing.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: I wonder if I'm gifted in it.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Um, and we're trying to take active steps towards that.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: At the end of the day, I don't think everyone is going to be prophetically gifted.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: Um, I think that I have confidence that Jesus can lead me and will lead me, uh, especially in moments when I need him to.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: Uh when it comes to my sheep hear my voice, don't listen to another, he he he leads us and guides us and and and directs our path.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: That kind of language I think is true.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but sometimes that's not gonna be through pictures, that's not gonna be through um, you know, still solve small voices inside.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: Um, sometimes that's through scripture and providence and the people of God.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: So um, yes, I I think we're gonna be led by him, but to what degree uh the scripture is not explicit.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: So um that's where I'm at.
- 40:11SPEAKER_01: Uh Hannah from Texas, not from Montana, asks, uh, if all of us can prophesy, then what is the logic?
- 40:18SPEAKER_01: Sorry, uh, why is that logic not true of all gifts, like for the gift of tongues, uh, and if all can pray for healing, why are only some seem to be gifted in healing?
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: I think we've just tackled that one.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: Very similar question.
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna do Terry from Texas.
- 40:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, would you explain the difference between the gift of prophecy and word of knowledge?
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, the uh prophecy given from the platforms felt a lot like the gift of knowledge uh from some of the people.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: It's fuzzy and hard to understand where those lines are.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: Um I'll address it real quickly and toss it over to one of you guys, uh maybe Miller first here on this one, since I'm flip-flopping between the two of you.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Uh I would say overarching umbrella, prophecy is sometimes used very specifically and sometimes very broadly.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: I think of Joel 2, Acts 2.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna pour out my spirit in all flesh, sons and others will prophesy, and then it describes visions and dreams as prophecy.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: And then Peter says, What you just saw, it was fulfilled in your hearing.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Like this is this is Joel's prophecy, is fulfilled.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: That's what you just saw.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: And what was he seeing being done?
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Tongues.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: Um, God speaking through his people uh in languages they did not understand.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: So I go, ah, that looks like to me, uh prophecy is just any kind of divine communication.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: And I feel comfortable speaking of prophecy with a very large umbrella of divine communication.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Um, Miller, do you have any you know thoughts on words of knowledge, words of wisdom, prophecy, things like that?
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: No, I think you described it perfectly.
- 41:39SPEAKER_03: It seems to be a category that fits uh everything in there.
- 41:43SPEAKER_03: You'll you'll see people in the Old Testament who are seers, they're still considered prophets.
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: And you'll see some who are just called prophets.
- 41:50SPEAKER_03: And they all some of them tell the future, some of them tell the past, some of them tell things that could not be known, like the plans of another king.
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: Um that that one word gets used to describe a lot of different activity.
- 42:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we were doing a study around Tree You Missed Out.
- 42:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, I was doing some study on some rabbinic work.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I buy it yet, but uh, they suggested that the words we've we looked up 2 Chronicles 29-29.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, are not all these written in Samuel the Seer, Nathan the Prophet, Gad the Seer?
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: And the words that are being used are different words.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: Um, Samuel the Seer is like Roe, one is like Nabi, and one is like Kosin.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: I forget which one, I don't know how to pronounce the words either, but I'm getting close.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, anyway, uh, one of the uh uh rabbinic works suggested that one meant seer, the other one meant one who speaks on behalf of God, and then the third category was someone who was a court prophet, that this phrase is specifically used of like court prophets.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: And I was like, ooh, that's kind of interesting.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: Still a seer, but one who had a position.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: And the reason that Samuel's not listed as that same kind, since they're both called seers, that Samuel wasn't a court prophet because he didn't align himself with Saul's court nor David's court, but he was still a seer.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: And I was like, that's I feel like that's a future remnant radio episode or something.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Like uh that's it's an interesting topic.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: That'd be a good one.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: Um anything you would add?
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: You you've done an episode on words of knowledge, words of wisdom.
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe unpack that for some people who are watching.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sorry.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: I just put eye drops in.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: I'm not crying.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: Um, so yeah, word of knowledge versus prophecy.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: Uh, I would I would encourage you to go back, watch the episode I did.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: It's a short episode on words of knowledge, words of wisdom.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: And I believe I include prophecy in in that exploration of gifts.
- 43:39SPEAKER_02: So uh 1 Corinthians 12, prophecy, word of knowledge, and word of wisdom, they are distinct.
- 43:45SPEAKER_02: Uh they do seem to be revelatory in nature, and uh and yet it's hard to be we can't be dogmatic about it, is what I would say.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: Like, for instance, cessationists would say the word of knowledge just means like you have, I mean, this is a crass way of saying it, but like it you just have knowledgeable messages.
- 44:08SPEAKER_02: Basically, it's teaching, and the same idea with words of wisdom that these are kind of in the teaching family, and charismatics would say, well, no, it's more in the revelatory family, uh, because of how Paul talks about, quote, knowledge in 1 Corinthians 13, uh, as well as 1 Corinthians 14.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: He seems to equate knowledge with revelation, but then he also seems to use prophecy in a way that like it almost sounds like it's an umbrella that like an all-encompassing and yet distinct.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: So it it's kind of hard to know what Paul's doing there, but I almost imagine you could you could draw something like a uh, I don't know, an umbrella, which is prophecy, which speaks of all revelatory gifts, and then um words of knowledge being a subset of that and words of wisdom, which I would perceive to be something more like divinely revealed facts about people's lives for word of knowledge, divinely revealed counseling.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: Counsel for someone's life, word of wisdom.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, even discernment of spirits seems to be revelatory, but again, we can't be dogmatic about it.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: I would put it under that prophetic umbrella.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, predictive prophecy isn't really any of those, uh it's not word of knowledge, word of wisdom, or discernment of spirits, but it does seem to fall under prophecy.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Uh, and then interestingly enough, tongues, which occurs in Acts chapter two, when Peter gets up to explain what's happening, he quotes Joel II about prophecy.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: Well, they are declaring the wonders of God, albeit in other tongues, but God's speech in the mouths of people, tongues is a prophetic phenomenon.
- 45:46SPEAKER_02: And so I just think prophecy is a bigger umbrella than what we make it.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: It's not just predicting the future.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: And uh prophecy even includes forth telling, uh, like we see that in Revelation 11 and, of course, the whole Old Testament.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: So there's I just think prophecy is a bigger umbrella than we give it credit for.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: And there's probably some overlap with some of these gifts, but it's hard to discern and I wouldn't be dogmatic.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, I've got a question from Sean from Louisiana.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: I would like for someone to discuss the purpose and use of a prayer tongue and the privacy of prayer time.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: How can I be assured that tongues is from the Holy Spirit and not from my flesh?
- 46:24SPEAKER_01: Miller, you talked on tongues.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: Take it away.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: Uh I don't always know if that is easy to tell without someone who can interpret.
- 46:35SPEAKER_03: Um in fact, yeah, I'm not entirely sure what the answer is, other than um I would ask the question of when you're motivated to do it.
- 46:43SPEAKER_03: Is it something that you do when you're lacking words to pray and or when you're in worship?
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: Um, if you find yourself propelled in that direction.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: And again, I don't have scripture for any of this.
- 46:54SPEAKER_03: I would say anecdotally, here's what I know, which means you're probably gonna have to take that with a grain of salt.
- 46:59SPEAKER_03: Um, there's nothing in scripture that tells us here's how you know for sure when you're speaking in tongues, and here's how you don't know.
- 47:06SPEAKER_03: Um, it's just not something that we're given information on.
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Um, but for me, I would speak in tongues.
- 47:13SPEAKER_03: I remember I I've initially got like a phrase that I would say, and then I would forget what the phrase was, and then later on I'd I'd like, I wonder if I can still do that thing.
- 47:22SPEAKER_03: And then I would speak, and the same phrase would come out.
- 47:25SPEAKER_03: Um, and eventually it kind of took on a life of its own.
- 47:28SPEAKER_03: Um, now I've had people understand me speaking Portuguese and Italian and a number of Latin-based languages.
- 47:34SPEAKER_03: And it happened at the conferences.
- 47:36SPEAKER_03: In fact, at the beginning of the this podcast, um you guys had asked me what was one of my takeaways.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: Well, it was actually my favorite time was doing the tongues and interpretation.
- 47:46SPEAKER_03: Uh, I had a number of people understood.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: I mean, like a large crowd of people understanding what was being said.
- 47:52SPEAKER_03: Um, some of them because they just got interpretation by the spirit, some of them because they knew the language that I was speaking in.
- 47:59SPEAKER_03: And so um, all that's to say though, I don't know if you can know definitively without somebody understanding it and uh either in a language they know and or there being someone there who has a gift to interpret it.
- 48:11SPEAKER_03: Um, and then beyond that, I would look for some sort of inner witness of the spirit.
- 48:15SPEAKER_03: And I wish I had more concrete scripture to point you uh towards.
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: Were you looking at your iPad?
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: And then when someone gave an interpretation, you were like, uh, I'm gonna give it again until someone tells me I'm speaking Russian.
- 48:27SPEAKER_01: Uh just kidding.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Chris Reed joke.
- 48:30SPEAKER_01: Chris Reed jokes too soon.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: Good job, good job.
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Too soon.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: Um Josh, at some point I'd like to address it doesn't have to be now, but baptism in the spirit, because there's some talk in the chat, it might be helpful for us to talk through.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: But go for it.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: Now would be a good time, or okay.
- 48:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's great.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you should.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, so the person in the chat was saying she was she was confused, she doesn't think she's ever been baptized in the spirit, um, doesn't speak in tongues.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: I said in response, I think you were, you know, we're baptized in the spirit at conversion.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: She's like, that can't be.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: I was converted as a child.
- 49:05SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I'd say you were baptized in the spirit as a child.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: So that's where the conversation has gotten in chat.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: And so now here we are, and I'm sure she's not the only one.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: So the uh Pentecostal position on the baptism of the Holy Spirit is that it is a second experience.
- 49:20SPEAKER_02: It occurs, you get converted at first, but then sometime down the road, although it could feasibly happen at the same time as conversion, but usually sometime down the road, you are endued with power on high, you receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and you're more empowered for life, Christian life and ministry.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: And uh Pentecostals will typically say the evidence of this is speaking in tongues.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: They might say speaking in tongues or some other supernatural manifestation.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: Uh, that's not our position.
- 49:48SPEAKER_02: That the folks on Remnant Radio here, that's not our position.
- 49:51SPEAKER_02: Although, if you're a Pentecostal in your in the audience and you've had that experience, uh an incredible encounter with the Holy Spirit sometime down the road after conversion, maybe you even spoke in tongues, we would affirm your experience, but we would have different vocabulary for it.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: We wouldn't call it the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: Uh, we would say baptism of the Holy Spirit happens at conversion.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: The reason it didn't always happen at conversion in the book of Acts is because they were living in a time warp in history where before Pentecost, the Spirit was given selectively and not permanently to most people.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: But after Pentecost, we have uh universally and permanently received the Holy Spirit if we believe.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: That's what Michael Miller referred to as the democratization of the Holy Spirit.
- 50:35SPEAKER_02: We all have the Holy Spirit.
- 50:36SPEAKER_02: So given that they were living in a time warb, of course they believed beforehand, and there was a subsequent pouring out of the Holy Spirit or baptism.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: And I won't have time today to review um Acts chapter 2, 8, 10, 11, and 19, all of which talk about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and each case is unique.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I will say I do think that the example with Cornelius and the Gentiles is normative for us.
- 50:59SPEAKER_02: He really receives the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion.
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, and I think he his conversion most resembles ours.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: He wasn't living in some kind of time warp like Jewish believers were at the time.
- 51:11SPEAKER_02: Um, he became a believer in that moment.
- 51:14SPEAKER_02: It says that uh of his conversion that he received repentance unto life.
- 51:19SPEAKER_02: That's conversion.
- 51:20SPEAKER_02: And at that same time he received a baptism of the Holy Spirit.
- 51:22SPEAKER_02: Now he did speak in other tongues, uh, but I don't think that's the necessary evidence every single time, although that seems typical in Acts.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: Acts 8 is debatable.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: Um, 1 Corinthians 12, 13 is a pretty important verse on this subject.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: It says, uh, we were all baptized in one spirit into the body of Christ.
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: And so if Paul doesn't say some of you were baptized in the spirit and others of you weren't, he says you all were.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: And what did that do?
- 51:48SPEAKER_02: It put you into the body of Christ.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: When did that happen?
- 51:51SPEAKER_02: Well, we know, theologically speaking, that happened at conversion.
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: Baptism is the language of initiation.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: We know this of water baptism.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: You're initiated into the Christian faith.
- 52:00SPEAKER_02: It's it's meant to be closely associated with conversion.
- 52:04SPEAKER_02: Uh, and I would say that spirit baptism is the same.
- 52:07SPEAKER_02: It's the gate you walk through, it's uh it's part of your initiation, whereby you are incorporated into the body of Christ.
- 52:15SPEAKER_02: Now, the baptism of the Holy Spirit is not exactly the same as the filling of the Holy Spirit, although they can happen at the same time as they did in Acts chapter two.
- 52:23SPEAKER_02: But Peter is filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter two, but he's filled again with the Spirit in Acts chapter four, and then he's filled again with the Holy Spirit later in Acts chapter four, with a whole room of people who, when they're filled with the Holy Spirit, don't speak in tongues.
- 52:36SPEAKER_02: It says they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
- 52:40SPEAKER_02: You can think of the filling of the Holy Spirit as like a nitrous boost for sharing the gospel, and that's what happens twice in Acts chapter four.
- 52:47SPEAKER_02: The Apostle Paul is filled with the Holy Spirit in Acts chapter nine, but then again in Acts chapter 13.
- 52:51SPEAKER_02: And so it would seem that although the baptism and the filling of the Holy Spirit can happen together, uh the filling of the Holy Spirit is also distinct in that it is repeatable and empowerment for sharing the gospel.
- 53:03SPEAKER_02: And so you can be filled with the Holy Spirit again and again and again.
- 53:06SPEAKER_02: And if you had that second blessing, I would just say you were filled with the Holy Spirit, and I would affirm your experience and I would use different vocabulary.
- 53:13SPEAKER_02: Guys, I tried to go as fast as I could, but there's all of Acts in 1 Corinthians 12 right there.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: So I don't know if you have any thoughts you want to add.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: People who want any more than that should type in Remnant Radio, Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: We've done entire episodes on it, more than one episode.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: We've got short ones, we've got long ones, we got medium ones.
- 53:33SPEAKER_01: We've got a debate one time that Miller did with a guy uh from the Assemblies of God.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: So like we've we've got lots of material on the subject, and I would point them in that direction.
- 53:42SPEAKER_01: Uh Jack has a question about tongues.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, uh, I want to maybe touch on Sean's question about how do I know?
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: Uh well, here's the thing.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: I think the only way I know my private language is language is when it is tested publicly.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Um that's the only way.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: There's just there's no answer for the private stuff.
- 54:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: Jack, uh I've never spoken in tongues, but it seems as though prayer in tongues can be done uh whenever one wishes, but other gifts such as prophecy, word of knowledge, etc., are at the will of the spirit.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: Is this accurate and why?
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: Uh man, this is a really good question.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: I've I've had people confess to me that they've had moments where they've spoken in tongues, but have not been able to do it at will.
- 54:28SPEAKER_01: Um it's like, I think my I have to ask my dad.
- 54:32SPEAKER_01: I I know that I've heard him speak in tongues, but it's only been in church services like twice in my entire life, maybe once in my entire life, where he just got up, spoke in tongues.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: I've never heard him speak in tongues other than that.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: Maybe he does.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 54:43SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh I've heard other people say that they've done that in a church service, but have never never practiced a personal private prayer language.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: Um, it seems more spontaneous for them.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: If I'm gonna go to the scriptures, it seems like Paul says I speak in tongues more than all of you.
- 54:58SPEAKER_01: He says uh I'd rather pray this way than that way.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: He seems to have some kind of at-will control over a thing.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: What do you guys think?
- 55:07SPEAKER_03: Miller.
- 55:09SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure what you're asking there, Josh.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: The question is, some gifts seem to be able to be done on command.
- 55:14SPEAKER_01: Is tongues one of those things, or is it not?
- 55:18SPEAKER_03: Uh I mean depends what you mean on command.
- 55:23SPEAKER_03: So, like with tongues, it does seem like you're free to choose when to do it or when not to do it.
- 55:28SPEAKER_03: With healing, um, I would still say you have some freedom to do it or not to do it.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: You could just not pray for the sick and you'd not see any healings.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: Um, but when you pray for the sick, you can't guarantee whether there is going to be healing or not.
- 55:42SPEAKER_03: Um and so, yeah, same thing with teaching, it does feel like that it's much more voluntary.
- 55:48SPEAKER_03: Like you can choose when to do it and when not to do it.
- 55:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, with prophecy, same thing.
- 55:53SPEAKER_03: You can choose when to speak and when not to speak, uh, but you can't guarantee that the results are going to be teaching.
- 55:59SPEAKER_03: And so I I don't know.
- 56:02SPEAKER_03: Sam storms, he tends to categorize it two different ways of those things.
- 56:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, I can't remember the what are the terms that Sam uses, Josh?
- 56:09SPEAKER_03: Do you remember?
- 56:10SPEAKER_01: Residential occasional.
- 56:12SPEAKER_03: Uh, residential and occasional, yeah.
- 56:14SPEAKER_03: So he would say like gift of tongues, gift of teaching, those seem to be residential gifts.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: Whereas the gift of miracle working, the gifts of healings, um, those are uh not residential.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: And so I I like that language because it's helpful, but it's not exactly spelled out in scripture that way.
- 56:32SPEAKER_03: We do know that a person is told to not speak in a public corporate setting without interpretation.
- 56:38SPEAKER_03: Well, that assumes that the person speaking is capable of choosing to do so or not to do so.
- 56:43SPEAKER_03: And so I do think that there is a difference in how the gifts operate by their very nature.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: Um, but that's my best understanding of it.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: And I again we're asking questions that the scriptures aren't always explicitly clear on.
- 56:58SPEAKER_03: Um, just like as a case in point, every list that is mentioned in scripture about the gifts, not a single one of the lists looks the same.
- 57:07SPEAKER_03: Ephesians 4 only mentions five gifts, maybe four if one of them's hyphenated.
- 57:11SPEAKER_03: Um 1 Corinthians 12 has two different lists in the same chapter.
- 57:16SPEAKER_03: The one that's most popular is a list of nine gifts.
- 57:20SPEAKER_03: Um, but then you've got 1 Peter 4 that mentions like four gifts, and then you've got Romans uh 12.
- 57:26SPEAKER_03: Again, none of the lists are the same, none of the lists have the same number of gifts, and all of that is probably meant to communicate that these are basic understandings, but they're not comprehensive.
- 57:36SPEAKER_03: And unfortunately, the scriptures don't give us a comprehensive list of all gifts and explanations uh that are comprehensive on how they work, and so we're left to kind of piecemealing some of it, but then also kind of trusting God in the process uh with these with the even the practice of these things.
- 57:54SPEAKER_03: So I I hope I'm not being too vague, guys, but I I don't I just don't want to make any claims the scriptures don't give us the meaning.
- 58:01SPEAKER_02: I think, yeah, I I mean practically there are times, there are a few occasions in my life where I have had such a spiritual encounter, call it the spirit came over me or whatever, and I burst out in tongues.
- 58:16SPEAKER_02: Uh for me, they've I think they've all been alone when that when I when that happened, and I was just in in prayer and had a spiritual experience.
- 58:25SPEAKER_02: And so there is something to that.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: Uh it it was almost involuntary, but I would describe it more like I could have shut it off if I wanted to, but why would I ever want to?
- 58:36SPEAKER_02: It was wonderful.
- 58:37SPEAKER_02: Uh, but I would I would also say there's an aspect to to tongue speech that 1 Corinthians 14 does seem to imply you you really do have control over this.
- 58:47SPEAKER_02: The fact that he tells you to speak in turn, like two or three, but no more than that kind of deal, like suggests that you can start and stop at will.
- 58:56SPEAKER_02: The fact that he tells you, hey, if uh if there's no interpreter, keep quiet between you and the church and the church, which means you can control it.
- 59:03SPEAKER_02: So I think that's really part of the government governing, like the guideline of 1 Corinthians 14 is the reason we can have order in the church is that you can order yourselves.
- 59:13SPEAKER_02: One of the fruits of the spirit is self-control.
- 59:15SPEAKER_02: And that fruit of the spirit applies to the gifts of the spirit.
- 59:18SPEAKER_02: You can actually have self-control, you don't have to go into church and act like Wiki Wild, you know.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: Uh so that's I think part of the message of First Corinthians 14.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I think that uh two things.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: One, I would argue that it appears, I'm not saying that I know this definitively, it appears that some gifts operate in different ways, as Sam's has potentially suggested, which is like a residential and occasional.
- 59:46SPEAKER_01: That might be the way that this works.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: Um, what I do know is that prophecy is not accomplished by any one person.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: They don't they don't just decide they're gonna prophesy, but they're carried along by the spirit.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: It's not accomplished by the will of man and healing.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_01: Uh at least the apostles didn't seem to be able to heal in command.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: There were times where cheerfulness was left in my lead of sick, Apaphrodis on his deathbed before he was raised up.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: Um, so uh I I what I know to be definitive is that we need to be dependent on the power of the spirit in all that we do, uh, and not rely on our ability to do things on command, uh, but to rely on God's power uh not only to break in, um, but have great expectation that he'll do so.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: Um that being said, uh, if there are different ways that the gifts operate, why is it that tongues and prophecy, or why is it that tongues can be done on command, maybe teaching can be done on command, maybe leadership can be done on command, and prophecy not?
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: The scripture doesn't give us an answer.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: I have to speak where the scriptures speak and stay silent where the scripture is silent.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_01: It may be the case that all of them are occasional gifts.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: Some people don't like that, but I go, hey, um, prophecy is a gift of the spirit, and it seems occasional.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe they're all that way.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: Um, it could be the case.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_01: Guys, we're at the 59-minute mark, 5.03 on Central Time.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_01: Any kind of closing thoughts you guys would want to give on this program?
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: I know there's we were all over the place from tongues to prophecy to local expressions of spiritual gifts.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_01: Anything you guys want to add before we wrap up?
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: Spiritual gifts are empowered love.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: So the real goal of these is to love better.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_02: And uh, that's what we saw at the conference this week was people experiencing the affection of Jesus through the power powerful gifts that he poured out on his church.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_02: So that that's really what this is about.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_02: It's not about a miracle sideshow, it's about showing love.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_03: Miller?
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, Paul thanked God that he spoke in tongues more than all of the Corinthians, and there's probably a reason for that.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_03: He must have found a lot of value in it.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: And um I would hope that the church as a whole, despite the many misuses and mispractices that we find that are present in the charismatic world, I hope we all still value those gifts and that we haven't fallen victim to a way of thinking that says, because of how badly I've experienced these things, I'm not going to do these things, or I want nothing to do with these things.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_03: Uh, my hope, if anything, is that you see the value in those gifts because God didn't make bad gifts and that you would pursue them with all diligence in the hopes of correcting the misuse of it and using it in a way that actually does bless and bring uh the love of God and the power of God to others who are in deep need of it.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_03: So I bless you all in that journey.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_00: That's a good word, brother.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_00: It's a good word.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: I've got a guy in my church who's been saying that recently.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: It's it's contagious.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: It's a good word.
