- 0:00Chad, just talk about your time in
- 0:01Auburn. How's it going so far?
- 0:02>> Uh, it's been really good. It's been a
- 0:03pretty easy transition, uh, with all the
- 0:05familiar faces, but all the new guys are
- 0:07super cool and accepting and make it
- 0:09pretty easy to get used to. And then
- 0:11Auburn itself, all the fans and
- 0:12everything make it super welcoming. So,
- 0:15it's been good so far.
- 0:16>> Byum yesterday said he's expecting a
- 0:18thousand yard season from you. Just I
- 0:20mean, do you have the same expectation
- 0:22for yourself? But, I mean, just more
- 0:23than that, you know, why why is he
- 0:25expecting that from from you, you know?
- 0:27>> Uh, you know, just pick up where I left
- 0:28off at last year. Um, and then yeah, I
- 0:31expect that for myself, but I'm just
- 0:32going to take advantage of all the
- 0:33opportunities brought my way and put
- 0:35like try and put myself in the best
- 0:36position to like succeed and achieve
- 0:39that goal.
- 0:40>> How would you describe yourself as a
- 0:41receiver to like all my fans who might
- 0:43not have got to watch you a ton?
- 0:45>> As a receiver, I'm very explosive off
- 0:46the field or like off the line. I can
- 0:48stretch the field a lot. Um, and then
- 0:50just like it's more like the more I get
- 0:53involved in the game, like the better I
- 0:55play and just like can be myself. So,
- 0:59>> you're mostly outside guy. You work
- 1:00inside a slot. What's What do you do?
- 1:02>> Uh, my like first couple years or my
- 1:05first year in college I was outside.
- 1:07Second year I got moved to inside. And
- 1:10then like my third year I played like I
- 1:12was combo a little bit of both. And then
- 1:14last year South Florida I played outside
- 1:16cuz we had a pretty talented slot room.
- 1:19Um, and then this year I'm playing both
- 1:21combo.
- 1:23>> Equally or you like both equally or? Uh,
- 1:27yes sir. I kind of I mean the slot's
- 1:28nice because you get to go on like both
- 1:30sides and mix it up, run routes off your
- 1:32right side and left side, but I just see
- 1:34it as like you're just out there running
- 1:35routes your receiver like regardless
- 1:37where you're at. Uh, so I just I just
- 1:39enjoy being out there for real.
- 1:40>> Ch two or three guys have said you may
- 1:42be the fastest fastest guy on the team.
- 1:44How do you feel about that? Who who who
- 1:46your competition if you're not?
- 1:47>> Uh, Bryce Kane for sure. Bryce is
- 1:49definitely faster than me, but I'm up
- 1:51there like top five for sure. Uh they're
- 1:53not wrong like but like definitely Bryce
- 1:55and then like W's pretty fast too but
- 1:58like we could definitely line it up on
- 2:00the track and like see that' be a good
- 2:02talk.
- 2:02>> Speaking of Speaking of Bryce, he's a
- 2:03guy that you know hadn't played a lot
- 2:05these first couple of years here, but
- 2:07there's a lot of expectation for him to
- 2:08kind of take that. What have you seen
- 2:09from him early?
- 2:10>> Uh he's really good. He's really
- 2:12twitchy. Um, I know playing in this
- 2:14offense takes a little bit to like get
- 2:15used to and everything, but he's done a
- 2:18really good job of picking it up and
- 2:19he's really like uh what's like he wants
- 2:23to learn like and he wants to compete
- 2:25and everything. So like excited to see
- 2:27what he does in the future.
- 2:28>> Yeah. You uh got Arkansas connection
- 2:30still going strong with Golish and Cody.
- 2:33>> Yes sir.
- 2:33>> How valuable is that for you that that
- 2:35there's some guys that understand know
- 2:36where you're from and that and that
- 2:37relationship you guys have built over
- 2:39the years?
- 2:39>> Uh it means a lot. Um, I mean like over
- 2:42time I've just realized that I'm like a
- 2:43relationship person and like that like
- 2:46relationships mean something to me and
- 2:47like being from Arkansas I feel like a
- 2:49lot of people like want to stay in
- 2:51state. But uh it's cool seeing coach
- 2:54Burns like he got out and he's like
- 2:56doing his thing. So, it's just like kind
- 2:58of inspiring to me to see somebody else
- 3:00who was in my shoes one day like at some
- 3:03point and has made a name for himself
- 3:05like in a space like in the football
- 3:08world
- 3:08>> and recruiting you all the way back to
- 3:10Tennessee to now. What's that bond like
- 3:12between you guys?
- 3:13>> Uh, it's definitely just grown a lot.
- 3:15Um, and it's pretty cool. Like it means
- 3:18a lot to me. I'm pretty like is a like
- 3:22my coach like I kind of just like sit
- 3:24there and like watch how like they move.
- 3:26like I don't really like I could
- 3:27definitely talk to him more and like get
- 3:29a few more like nuggets from there, but
- 3:31I kind of just like sit there and like
- 3:32watch how he moves so I can like
- 3:34incorporate into like how like I want to
- 3:36be and go about my day and stuff.
- 3:39>> Chaz, uh last year when you had the
- 3:41breakout and then got injured, was that
- 3:43a difficult time for you having to sit
- 3:44out, you know, after you got such a
- 3:46great start?
- 3:46>> Uh yeah, it was difficult. I mean, I
- 3:49just there's a lot of good people though
- 3:50in South Florida, so they like it wasn't
- 3:54as hard to like go into the building
- 3:56every day and like want to do rehab and
- 3:58everything. Like all the people in
- 3:59there, which a lot of the people came
- 4:01here, too. Um, they just like help. And
- 4:04there's like um yeah, it's just really
- 4:07like the people. So like my head space
- 4:09wasn't like terrible, but definitely
- 4:11like uh it was hard for sure. Are you
- 4:15still rehabing or you 100%.
- 4:17>> I'm 100% but I you know I just do like
- 4:20uh just like prevention stuff. I'm still
- 4:22in there like every day you know
- 4:24getting old too so it's like got to take
- 4:27care of the body.
- 4:28>> What's it been like being able to like
- 4:30pick up right where you left off with
- 4:31Byron and and and a lot of these guys in
- 4:33this offense?
- 4:34>> Uh it's super nice. It cuts out like a
- 4:36whole transition period of like having
- 4:37to try and figure out like the
- 4:39quarterback get a feel for me. I get a
- 4:41feel for like the offense quarterback
- 4:42and everything. So, it's been pretty
- 4:44nice. Smooth transition.
- 4:46>> You've been you've been in the SEC
- 4:47before, obviously you've been at the G5
- 4:48level as well. How big is the jump there
- 4:51or is it, you know, when you're out
- 4:52there, you're just, you know, competing
- 4:53like you would at any level.
- 4:54>> Uh, I just go out there and compete like
- 4:56I would at any level. I mean, like
- 4:58obviously like it's really just the core
- 5:00and then like the corners like the
- 5:01corners are like bigger, faster,
- 5:02stronger, and then like in the like the
- 5:05D lineman, they're like bigger, faster.
- 5:07So, it's like kind of just like on a
- 5:08screen like you just got to get up out
- 5:10of there. And then like you just have to
- 5:12work your technique a little bit more.
- 5:14For sure.
- 5:14>> Last year when you hurt like Jeremiah
- 5:16had to step up and play a lot more for
- 5:18USF. What have you seen him kind of grow
- 5:20and and what does he bring to the table
- 5:21here?
- 5:21>> Uh he brings a lot. He's grown a lot as
- 5:23a leader. Like he's definitely probably
- 5:25the most vocal in the receiver room.
- 5:26Like kid never is quiet. Um not in a bad
- 5:29way, but like he's like always talking,
- 5:31which is good. Like good energy and
- 5:33everything. Um but he's done a very good
- 5:35job like being a becoming a more vocal
- 5:37leader like off the field. Uh, but him
- 5:40stepping up last year was awesome. It
- 5:42was just cool to see. Excited to see
- 5:43like what his future holds.
