- 0:16Speaker 1: I'm just telling you before we started tape on this production,
- 0:20Speaker 1: these guys are full of I'm gonna say piss and
- 0:23Speaker 1: vinegar because I know Lance Lynn like's.
- 0:31Speaker 2: On the edge today.
- 0:33Speaker 3: That means I only have to do to today.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Edge.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And you guys know this. We start with a pitch.
- 0:44Speaker 1: We're still Matt Holliday trying to get to seven thousand subscribers.
- 0:48Speaker 1: We're pushing along. We're over sixty five hundred. Hit that
- 0:51Speaker 1: button and subscribe to Cardinal Territory. Not tell a friend,
- 0:56Speaker 1: tell two friends. We're trying to get to seven k.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Now that Holiday back, maybe we.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Can do that.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Matt asked them, you're you're a Cardinal Hall of Famer,
- 1:05Speaker 1: Say please subscribe.
- 1:08Speaker 5: I mean please subscribe, I mean get them seven thousand.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I think would mean a lot to Jim.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I love how we called him pitch. Now you're
- 1:17Speaker 6: still begging, Jim. You can't go a beg of pitch?
- 1:21Speaker 6: All right, come on now, all.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Right, it was a bed.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So the Cardinals are in Pittsburgh looking to sweep the Pirates.
- 1:27Speaker 1: They got the Dodgers, Uh coming to town this weekend.
- 1:31Speaker 1: But around major League Baseball, and I wanted to hit
- 1:33Speaker 1: on this first with.
- 1:34Speaker 4: You, gentlemen. We're seeing a lot of whacking, right.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We saw the Red Sox whack Cory Cora, and then
- 1:43Speaker 1: we see the Phillies whack Thompson, their manager. And these
- 1:47Speaker 1: are two teams with huge payrolls that are just tread
- 1:51Speaker 1: and water. It's not been good in the early going.
- 1:53Speaker 1: So I'm gonna start with Matt Holliday. Matt, do you
- 1:56Speaker 1: think it's too early for guys to get whacked? And
- 1:59Speaker 1: we just lost Kyle Gibson, so that's cool.
- 2:01Speaker 4: There is okay there?
- 2:04Speaker 2: Uh do I think it's too early?
- 2:05Speaker 5: I mean, look, I think that a lot of this
- 2:08Speaker 5: is maybe deeper than we know. I think when you
- 2:11Speaker 5: start talking about gms and president of Baseball Operations or
- 2:17Speaker 5: people whoever are running the team, Uh, you start to
- 2:20Speaker 5: talk about relationships with the manager, and the minute it
- 2:24Speaker 5: seemingly goes sideways with the team a little bit where
- 2:27Speaker 5: they're not performing, Uh, this is an opportunity for them
- 2:31Speaker 5: to put somebody in control that they want in control
- 2:35Speaker 5: that maybe they work better with or maybe that they
- 2:37Speaker 5: have a stronger voice.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Then.
- 2:38Speaker 5: I think Alex Cora had earned and gained a pretty
- 2:42Speaker 5: big voice with the Red Sox and with with ownership.
- 2:46Speaker 5: And you know, I think that sometimes if you're a GM,
- 2:52Speaker 5: you you take a you maybe point the blame a
- 2:56Speaker 5: little bit when you fire the manager, and then you
- 2:59Speaker 5: you know, you hope you somebody in that starts, uh
- 3:02Speaker 5: maybe starts a fire or something. But look, we all
- 3:05Speaker 5: know that the Corps is a good manager. I mean
- 3:07Speaker 5: he's won a World Series, just like Rob Thompson. He's
- 3:09Speaker 5: the same manager that got him to the playoffs a
- 3:12Speaker 5: lot lately. Uh, it's not They're not the reason that
- 3:16Speaker 5: the Red Sox and Phillies are not playing well. I
- 3:19Speaker 5: think the Red Sox made a mistake and not bringing
- 3:22Speaker 5: Bregman back. They let Ranger Swarez go out the door
- 3:25Speaker 5: or no, wait, the sign Ranger Swarez.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I think, I don't know. I think it's it's.
- 3:31Speaker 5: Probably it's just to me a lot of times, a
- 3:35Speaker 5: kind of just a shuffling of the deck. I don't
- 3:37Speaker 5: think the manager as a player, it's never it's never
- 3:40Speaker 5: the manager's fault. When you're off to this kind of start.
- 3:43Speaker 5: I don't love the roster construction necessarily for the Red Sox.
- 3:46Speaker 5: And then I think the Phillies have just kind of
- 3:48Speaker 5: gotten off to a bit of a bad start. I
- 3:51Speaker 5: think they're gonna get hot. I think they still have
- 3:53Speaker 5: a really good team. They're gonna get wheelerback, who's an
- 3:56Speaker 5: ace if he comes back, you know, and is healthy.
- 3:58Speaker 5: I think he's an ace type of pitch. Uh So,
- 4:01Speaker 5: I think the Phillies will end up. I think they
- 4:03Speaker 5: have a better team and will end up I think
- 4:05Speaker 5: getting into the playoffs.
- 4:07Speaker 2: But it's never the manager.
- 4:09Speaker 5: I think this is more probably behind the scenes, when
- 4:11Speaker 5: you're talking about a GM who wants to make a change,
- 4:14Speaker 5: maybe bring somebody in that they're that they can have
- 4:17Speaker 5: a little bit more collaboration with.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Usually, if there has to be a fall guy, Kyle,
- 4:23Speaker 1: it's the hitting coach, right, that's the first guy that
- 4:26Speaker 1: always gets cut loose, even though it's not his fault.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But in these cases, like in Boston, they fired everybody
- 4:32Speaker 1: Thompson in in Philly, who the players loved that. The
- 4:36Speaker 1: players in Boston love Cora. It's got to be something else.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Is it too early or do you think these guys
- 4:43Speaker 1: could have gotten the ship back on course?
- 4:47Speaker 7: Well, I mean, I think definitely they Like Matt said,
- 4:49Speaker 7: I think they both could have gotten a ship back
- 4:51Speaker 7: on course because you know, there are two teams that
- 4:53Speaker 7: have a lot of good players, and when they start
- 4:55Speaker 7: playing better, you know, obviously the manager looks better. I
- 4:58Speaker 7: think Lance pointed out on Monday a really good point,
- 5:02Speaker 7: and I heard somebody else say it. You know, the
- 5:03Speaker 7: last couple of days about the Phillies is if the
- 5:07Speaker 7: GM comes in or you know, Dave Dombrowski comes in
- 5:10Speaker 7: and says, hey, we need to make a change. We
- 5:12Speaker 7: haven't been hitting. I think Kevin Long is you know,
- 5:16Speaker 7: somebody needs to go, and Rob Thompson says, well, you're
- 5:18Speaker 7: going to fire me before you fire Kevin Long, because
- 5:21Speaker 7: if you're firing Kevin Long, then you're firing me as well.
- 5:24Speaker 7: I think that could be some of the situation here,
- 5:27Speaker 7: with Cora and Thompson both being guys who are very
- 5:30Speaker 7: well respected and loved in those clubhouses by all accounts.
- 5:33Speaker 7: So I don't know, I think that could be something
- 5:36Speaker 7: that could have been going on there. Definitely in twenty
- 5:39Speaker 7: twenty two when we went from Girardi to tomper You know,
- 5:43Speaker 7: it was a pretty big shock factor, a pretty big
- 5:45Speaker 7: you know, hey, kicking the pants. Part of the reason
- 5:48Speaker 7: he got fired was the players here, So we need
- 5:50Speaker 7: to pick it up.
- 5:51Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:52Speaker 7: Maybe that's something that that Dave was going with in
- 5:55Speaker 7: Philly and.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Hoping that happened here with with Maddingly coming in.
- 5:58Speaker 7: But yeah, I think I think Lance probably hit it
- 6:02Speaker 7: on the head when you mentioned that the manager was
- 6:04Speaker 7: not going to let somebody else take the.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Bad Lance you made a great point. I think other
- 6:09Speaker 1: people probably heard it and still your point. My question
- 6:13Speaker 1: is if you're a player on a team that should
- 6:15Speaker 1: be doing better, and I think all you guys have
- 6:18Speaker 1: been in that boat and then someone gets whacked, is
- 6:22Speaker 1: it a kick in the pants or does that not
- 6:24Speaker 1: change the equation really at all?
- 6:26Speaker 4: If you're dealing with professional athletes.
- 6:30Speaker 6: Well some people would be surprised to hear this, but
- 6:33Speaker 6: we do have hearts and we don't want people to
- 6:35Speaker 6: lose their jobs because of our bad play, right, So yes,
- 6:40Speaker 6: when you are a professional, these guys are with you
- 6:43Speaker 6: every day, These coaches, they're ins and outs with you.
- 6:46Speaker 6: They're going through the ups and downs with you, trying
- 6:48Speaker 6: to help you get through them. So you don't want
- 6:50Speaker 6: anyone to get fired because you suck, right, I would
- 6:53Speaker 6: say both teams would say, hey, up until this point,
- 6:56Speaker 6: we've not done what we're supposed to do, so we've sucked.
- 6:59Speaker 6: So someone has to take the fall for that, and
- 7:02Speaker 6: it's usually not the players because if you cut them,
- 7:04Speaker 6: you have to pay them way too much money and
- 7:06Speaker 6: stuff like that. But that being said, you don't those guys,
- 7:10Speaker 6: I mean, the coaches and stuff worked so hard. So
- 7:14Speaker 6: when guys get fired because of bad play, it hits
- 7:18Speaker 6: in a bad way for players more than anyone would
- 7:20Speaker 6: ever know, because we're not heartless assholes like people think
- 7:24Speaker 6: we are. So yes, it does affect you. It does
- 7:28Speaker 6: hit you in a way because you know these people's families,
- 7:30Speaker 6: you know them very well, and you don't want them
- 7:33Speaker 6: to lose their job because of you, and at this
- 7:35Speaker 6: point they have because of your lack of being able.
- 7:38Speaker 3: To perform on the field right now.
- 7:40Speaker 6: So maybe the front officers are saying, hey, well, especially
- 7:44Speaker 6: in Philly, it's like hey, look, they were talking about
- 7:47Speaker 6: him standing in the organization in some way, so maybe
- 7:49Speaker 6: it was like he's so well respected that he might
- 7:52Speaker 6: have walked in and said, Hey, I'm not getting through
- 7:55Speaker 6: the way I want to, or it's not hitting the
- 7:58Speaker 6: way we need to. We might need to shake it up,
- 8:00Speaker 6: because I've heard he's that kind of person. So you
- 8:03Speaker 6: just don't know, but you also know that there's some
- 8:05Speaker 6: fighting going on when things aren't going going the way
- 8:08Speaker 6: they're supposed to. Front offices and everything are gonna not
- 8:12Speaker 6: take the blame. They don't want to take the blame.
- 8:14Speaker 6: So usually it's the coaches, and then the coaches are,
- 8:17Speaker 6: you know, taking the blame for the players not playing
- 8:19Speaker 6: as well either.
- 8:19Speaker 3: So it's a it's a vicious cycle in this game.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So I want to say for the record that there
- 8:24Speaker 1: is no one on this panel that is a heartless
- 8:29Speaker 1: a hole. Kyle, were you holding up two fingers from no?
- 8:34Speaker 7: Lance added the curse word. That's number two.
- 8:37Speaker 6: I just need to integrate one more. If anyone wants
- 8:40Speaker 6: to help, you can. But I got it.
- 8:43Speaker 3: I like it.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I like it.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So, Matt, what's it like being on a team that
- 8:48Speaker 1: has very good players. I don't know if you've ever
- 8:52Speaker 1: been in that exact situation, but a team that has
- 8:56Speaker 1: really no shot at getting getting it going again, and
- 9:00Speaker 1: then you know there could be a change. What's it
- 9:03Speaker 1: like being part of that as as as an athlete
- 9:06Speaker 1: doing your best every day? Know one, the coaches, the
- 9:09Speaker 1: managers working hard, but it's not working.
- 9:12Speaker 4: How frustrating is that?
- 9:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, look, it's it's pro sports, you know.
- 9:18Speaker 5: I mean it's a it's a big roster, right, so
- 9:20Speaker 5: you have to have you know, there's there's there's the
- 9:24Speaker 5: the hitting, the starting pitching, and the relief pitching. And
- 9:28Speaker 5: so you're gonna have seasons and you're gonna have times
- 9:31Speaker 5: where one of those three two of those three are not.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Playing well or not doing well.
- 9:37Speaker 5: Uh, you might be playing well early in the games,
- 9:39Speaker 5: but you're having trouble holding leads, or you might be
- 9:42Speaker 5: having a hard time scoring. You're pitching well, but you
- 9:44Speaker 5: can't can't get that big hit. So it's pro baseball,
- 9:48Speaker 5: major League baseball. I mean, it's a it's a you know,
- 9:51Speaker 5: there's there's years, you know where you you've had a
- 9:53Speaker 5: ton of talent and and you just can't find ways
- 9:57Speaker 5: to win games and and you can't get all three
- 10:00Speaker 5: kind of synced up. There's years where you're not nearly
- 10:03Speaker 5: as talented, but you're getting clutch hits and you're and
- 10:06Speaker 5: you're you know, you're making the big play, you're getting
- 10:09Speaker 5: the big hit, and and and you're winning more games
- 10:12Speaker 5: than maybe you should.
- 10:13Speaker 2: So it's it's one of those things. I think that
- 10:17Speaker 2: it's a long season.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I think that's one of the good things about playing
- 10:20Speaker 5: one hundred and sixty two games is usually, uh, if
- 10:23Speaker 5: you have a good roster, eventually you kind of get
- 10:25Speaker 5: it going. And that's where I think some of these
- 10:27Speaker 5: early firings are are a little bit different and maybe
- 10:31Speaker 5: a little suspicious, is because over a long season, the
- 10:36Speaker 5: Phillies are gonna be good. I think in the Red Sox,
- 10:40Speaker 5: you know, I'm not as confident in their roster, but
- 10:42Speaker 5: I think at the end of the day, I think
- 10:43Speaker 5: they're gonna be around five hundred in August, which puts
- 10:46Speaker 5: you in the mix for playoffs.
- 10:47Speaker 2: And so I don't know, I just think that that.
- 10:55Speaker 5: Roster and and and long season, and and you know,
- 10:58Speaker 5: it's like we have one job as an athlete, right
- 11:01Speaker 5: to prepare and go out there and perform to the
- 11:05Speaker 5: best that we can. Take care of yourself, put yourself
- 11:08Speaker 5: in a position to do the best you can for
- 11:10Speaker 5: the best of the team.
- 11:13Speaker 2: And and that's all you can do.
- 11:14Speaker 5: And I think you know, in these situations, I never
- 11:20Speaker 5: had any regrets about I mean, obviously you feel for
- 11:22Speaker 5: people that get let go or fired, and you know
- 11:25Speaker 5: they have families. Like Lance said, but I think you
- 11:30Speaker 5: never really have to check look yourself in the mirror
- 11:32Speaker 5: if you're doing everything you can possibly to go out
- 11:35Speaker 5: there and do the best you can for your team.
- 11:36Speaker 5: And I think that that's something that every player needs
- 11:40Speaker 5: to make sure that when they look themselves in the mirror,
- 11:42Speaker 5: that they're doing all they can for the team, and
- 11:45Speaker 5: then you can live with that.
- 11:48Speaker 1: How about you, Kyle, what's that like being on a
- 11:51Speaker 1: team where you know suddenly the ice is melting under
- 11:54Speaker 1: your manager's feet and there's not much you could do
- 11:57Speaker 1: about it.
- 11:59Speaker 4: You better unmute your song.
- 12:03Speaker 2: The headphones got him here we are. This is why
- 12:05Speaker 2: I remember it.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Please don't edit that out, all right, disconnect and come
- 12:12Speaker 1: back on.
- 12:14Speaker 4: He's mad at me.
- 12:14Speaker 3: God, you're out of here. Your day's over.
- 12:19Speaker 6: I'm pulling early. You're pulling your early, kid, You're done.
- 12:22Speaker 6: You just don't got it today.
- 12:23Speaker 4: All right, Well, he'll be back, Lance, what's that like?
- 12:27Speaker 1: I mean in the locker room, I know, you said
- 12:29Speaker 1: your piece about and Matt said his piece about looking
- 12:32Speaker 1: in the mirror, but it's got him suck, right because
- 12:35Speaker 1: it's also if you're ten fifteen games under five hundred,
- 12:39Speaker 1: it's not something that gets fixed in a day, right,
- 12:42Speaker 1: Like you win six to one and it's not better.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Yeah, I say the one year that we really felt crazy,
- 12:51Speaker 6: like I was with Mallitor in Minnesota and Kyle was
- 12:54Speaker 6: on my team, and we they we signed a bunch
- 12:56Speaker 6: of people that winter and we're like, hey, we got
- 12:58Speaker 6: a chance, and we just didn't hit the ground running.
- 13:01Speaker 6: We got snowed out for like a week, and it
- 13:03Speaker 6: was just like everything that bad could happen kind of happened.
- 13:06Speaker 6: Paul didn't get fired that year, but we knew at
- 13:09Speaker 6: the deadline like everyone was gonna get traded. So that
- 13:11Speaker 6: was the one where I could feel like, man, we
- 13:15Speaker 6: we did not do our job. And like I would say,
- 13:18Speaker 6: everyone that got signed that year or that came to
- 13:21Speaker 6: Minnesota that year probably had one of the worst years
- 13:23Speaker 6: of their career in a weird way, and there's like
- 13:27Speaker 6: it's like one of the worst feelings. Like I remember
- 13:29Speaker 6: just sitting there as a group trying to you try
- 13:33Speaker 6: to get things going. You're like, you're having team meetings,
- 13:35Speaker 6: You're like, hey, man, what can we do better? What
- 13:37Speaker 6: what's going on? What's everybody feeling? Blah blah blah, And
- 13:40Speaker 6: anything you tried didn't work. So it was like a
- 13:45Speaker 6: it was a it was a feeling of like hopelessness
- 13:48Speaker 6: in a way because everything you tried, and when I
- 13:51Speaker 6: mean everything anyone tried did not work that year, and
- 13:54Speaker 6: everyone's like, man, we should be better. We're a better
- 13:56Speaker 6: team than this. We know we're better, and it just
- 13:58Speaker 6: didn't work time in and time out. So it was
- 14:01Speaker 6: a it was a feeling of just, man, no matter
- 14:04Speaker 6: what we tried, it's just not gonna happen.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And it sucked.
- 14:07Speaker 6: So I don't even know how to explain it, but
- 14:09Speaker 6: that was one of the worst years I had personally,
- 14:12Speaker 6: especially to start the year out a better second half,
- 14:14Speaker 6: but and I think a lot of people had better
- 14:16Speaker 6: second half, which if we had kept the team together,
- 14:18Speaker 6: who knows what would happen. But we got in such
- 14:20Speaker 6: a bad start that they had to kind of tear
- 14:23Speaker 6: it down and then it was weird. At the end
- 14:25Speaker 6: of the year, Minnesota was, you know, close to five
- 14:28Speaker 6: hundred and we were Everyone that left had pretty good
- 14:31Speaker 6: second half, So who knows what would happen if we'd
- 14:33Speaker 6: just stayed together.
- 14:33Speaker 3: But we had a bad.
- 14:36Speaker 6: First stretch April May, and we just couldn't dig ourselves
- 14:39Speaker 6: out of as much as we tried before the deadline.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Sometimes the holes a little too deep. Kyle, I'm gonna
- 14:46Speaker 1: throw this at you. I see the headphones are gone.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Lance was just talking about your guys time in Minnesota.
- 14:54Speaker 1: What's that like for a veteran player knowing the team
- 14:58Speaker 1: is better than it's performing. But it's not like you're
- 15:01Speaker 1: going to go out and rattle off twenty straight wins.
- 15:05Speaker 7: First off, Jim, I heard you the whole time. I
- 15:08Speaker 7: just heard Lance. I have receipts that when this gets
- 15:11Speaker 7: posted and you go off on me saying, hey son,
- 15:15Speaker 7: you need on mute yourself, I'm going to post at.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Them not being muted.
- 15:22Speaker 6: All right, All right, you just got stunned by daddy,
- 15:30Speaker 6: A right. I think that Jim was your daddy, Kyle.
- 15:34Speaker 7: Twenty eighteen was a was a really crazy season for
- 15:37Speaker 7: sure for the Twins. You know, we finished seventy eight
- 15:41Speaker 7: eighty four, but we traded away eight guys at or
- 15:45Speaker 7: before the deadline. We're talking guys like Ryan Presley, Brian Doser,
- 15:50Speaker 7: just to name two of them, and I know there
- 15:52Speaker 7: was a lot more. Lance was one of them. I mean,
- 15:55Speaker 7: I know there was more.
- 15:56Speaker 3: We traded who was it, Zach Dude.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Zach Duke?
- 16:01Speaker 7: Like we traded away difference makers, right and finishing. You know,
- 16:05Speaker 7: we were thirteen games out of division, but you know,
- 16:07Speaker 7: who knows. I can't remember what we were out of
- 16:08Speaker 7: a wildcard, not that far. But yeah, we tore it
- 16:12Speaker 7: down and at the time we were only like two
- 16:14Speaker 7: games out of the wildcard.
- 16:15Speaker 4: It was kind of crazy.
- 16:15Speaker 7: But what I was going into before Jim accused me
- 16:18Speaker 7: of muting myself, which is completely false, was that in
- 16:22Speaker 7: twenty twenty five, that's the situation we were in in
- 16:24Speaker 7: Baltimore where everybody loved and respected Brandon Hyde by all
- 16:29Speaker 7: account in that locker room, and I actually my last
- 16:32Speaker 7: start was the day after he got fired, and then
- 16:34Speaker 7: I got fired. So they actually did decide to go
- 16:36Speaker 7: to the players and blame the players in that situation,
- 16:39Speaker 7: which I deserved it. But I would have loved to
- 16:42Speaker 7: have a couple more starts, but that's in the past,
- 16:44Speaker 7: so we'll leave it there. But everybody loved Brandon Hyde,
- 16:48Speaker 7: and that was a tough day in that locker room
- 16:51Speaker 7: because of what he had done for the organization. And
- 16:54Speaker 7: sometimes I feel like the front office just makes moves
- 16:56Speaker 7: to see if they can fire guys up and see
- 16:59Speaker 7: if they can, you know, get some change. I don't
- 17:02Speaker 7: think Hyder was happy with it, and none of the
- 17:04Speaker 7: players were either, but that was the direction they decided
- 17:07Speaker 7: to go that year.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Sometimes you gotta do something to make it work. We're
- 17:11Speaker 1: going to take a quick break here. You're watching Cardinal
- 17:14Speaker 1: Territory on the Foul Territory Network.
- 17:17Speaker 8: Todd Father. It's getting a little warm out, and I mean,
- 17:20Speaker 8: let's hit some concerts, let's hit some baseball games. And
- 17:23Speaker 8: where am I going to go to find those tickets?
- 17:25Speaker 8: And if you want to sing the answer, you can.
- 17:27Speaker 9: We're going to see hey, hey, listen. Ultimately, at the
- 17:31Speaker 9: end of the day, it is getting warmer and people
- 17:33Speaker 9: want to leave the house and it's time to leave,
- 17:35Speaker 9: go see a ball game. I guess where you can
- 17:36Speaker 9: find the best tickets, best spots, best places to go seat.
- 17:41Speaker 9: Geeks got it all, man, They got their red and

- 18:19Speaker 1: All Right, the Cardinals trying to sweep the buckos as
- 18:23Speaker 1: we speak, getting ready for a weekend series at home
- 18:27Speaker 1: against the Dodgers. Cardinals played really good ball in Pittsburgh
- 18:32Speaker 1: after getting swept by a really good Seattle team at home.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I guess that's the ups and downs that come with
- 18:37Speaker 1: being a young team. Matt Holliday, I know you follow
- 18:40Speaker 1: the Cardinals closely. I'm looking for your unsung hero on
- 18:44Speaker 1: the Cardinals this season because I think they're playing beyond
- 18:48Speaker 1: most people's expectations, probably yours, maybe mine. But give me
- 18:53Speaker 1: an unsung hero guy who you think maybe doesn't get
- 18:56Speaker 1: enough credit for helping the Cardinals get to work.
- 19:00Speaker 4: They are at prest Well.
- 19:03Speaker 5: First of all, they scored three in the first inning
- 19:05Speaker 5: off schemes currently, So Jordan Walker hit another home run
- 19:10Speaker 5: just now, So I think, look for me, it's him.
- 19:15Speaker 5: I mean, it's probably not unsung because I know he's
- 19:17Speaker 5: probably getting a lot of attention in Saint Louis for
- 19:19Speaker 5: the start that he's off to.
- 19:21Speaker 2: But having a guy in the middle of your order,
- 19:24Speaker 2: that is the threat that he's become. I was pretty
- 19:29Speaker 2: hard on him.
- 19:29Speaker 5: I think before the season about it's time to, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 5: kind of figure it out. And he seems to have
- 19:35Speaker 5: figured it out. And he's got nine home runs, They've
- 19:38Speaker 5: been seemingly a lot of big hits, and and when
- 19:41Speaker 5: you have somebody like that in the middle of your order,
- 19:44Speaker 5: it changes everything around it. So he, for me, as
- 19:48Speaker 5: has changed the complexity of their lineup in a lot
- 19:51Speaker 5: of ways. And obviously you know, adding JJ Weatherholt and
- 19:55Speaker 5: in the kind of the fire and some of the
- 19:58Speaker 5: big hits that he's brought. So I think that those
- 20:03Speaker 5: two guys you know, from an offensive side, have been
- 20:06Speaker 5: and again I'm not sure that they're necessarily unsung, but
- 20:09Speaker 5: they've been a big part of what they've been able
- 20:11Speaker 5: to do. As far as getting off to this good start.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Well, there's no question that update kind of changes where
- 20:17Speaker 1: I wanted to go. The thing about Walker Kyle is
- 20:20Speaker 1: he got out of the gate really hot, right ton
- 20:23Speaker 1: of homers. Then it looked like, all right, the league
- 20:26Speaker 1: is adjusting to him. How was he going to adjust back?
- 20:30Speaker 1: And I think prior to today he had like five hits
- 20:33Speaker 1: over the previous five games, but hadn't homern in a while.
- 20:36Speaker 1: Now today he homers. That's a good sign that he's
- 20:39Speaker 1: able to readjust after the league adjust to him, isn't it.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:44Speaker 7: I was really hoping we were going to go with
- 20:46Speaker 7: the Cardinal talk first so that I could get my
- 20:49Speaker 7: weather Holt pick in, And he led the game off
- 20:52Speaker 7: with a bomb. So I think he's probably I'm not
- 20:55Speaker 7: going to say he's my big surprise, but I think
- 20:57Speaker 7: he's somebody that has lifted this team and really given
- 21:01Speaker 7: them probably as much or more than they ever could
- 21:05Speaker 7: have expected. In his first thirty games here, thirty one now.
- 21:08Speaker 7: But Jordan Lance and I had many conversations along with
- 21:13Speaker 7: other players in twenty twenty four. Is that Jordan Walking
- 21:16Speaker 7: at Walker and Nolan Gorman were two guys that were
- 21:19Speaker 7: really important to this franchise going forward. Gorman's had his struggles,
- 21:24Speaker 7: but he's been showing some power. Walker's obviously been off
- 21:27Speaker 7: to an amazing start. I think that he's gonna have
- 21:31Speaker 7: spurts where he connects to the ball and gets an
- 21:34Speaker 7: elevation and drives out of the park. He's gonna have
- 21:36Speaker 7: some spurts where he hits his hardline drives and ground balls.
- 21:38Speaker 7: He's gonna have his spurts where he strikes out. He
- 21:42Speaker 7: had a thousand ops to the first twenty games. He
- 21:46Speaker 7: might be a thousand ops player. I don't know, maybe
- 21:49Speaker 7: he really gets that point. There's not many of those
- 21:51Speaker 7: in the game now. If he can be in between
- 21:54Speaker 7: eight fifty and nine hundred, he's sitting the nine to
- 21:56Speaker 7: twenty right now after the homer. I think that's probably
- 21:59Speaker 7: a really, really a good player and a good thing
- 22:01Speaker 7: for the Cardinals, and that's where he sits. That's that's
- 22:03Speaker 7: pretty close to elite, if not elite. So he's definitely
- 22:07Speaker 7: been a surprise. But in this lineup as a whole,
- 22:09Speaker 7: as I'm looking up and down, you know, even Mason
- 22:12Speaker 7: Wyn who started off slow, he's backed almost the seven
- 22:15Speaker 7: hundred oh ps. Like, there's some guys who are really
- 22:18Speaker 7: doing well and lifting this team and really allowing some
- 22:21Speaker 7: of these comeback wins to happen and sparking some of
- 22:24Speaker 7: these comeback whens to happen, and hopefully, you know, Dobbins
- 22:26Speaker 7: can have a good one today and be another one
- 22:28Speaker 7: of those guys in a trade that maybe becomes one
- 22:31Speaker 7: of these unsung heroes that you know, keeps these Cardinals
- 22:33Speaker 7: in the playoff talk for a long way into the season.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Coming into the game, schemes had like a two to
- 22:38Speaker 1: three e r A against the Cardinals, but was zero
- 22:41Speaker 1: and four. The Cardinals find a way so they get
- 22:43Speaker 1: to schemes as it stands right now, I want to
- 22:46Speaker 1: I want to ask you about JJ Weatherhold again, Lance,
- 22:48Speaker 1: because this is a rookie, this is a young man,
- 22:51Speaker 1: first year in the BIGS.
- 22:52Speaker 4: He goes home, he's from Pittsburgh.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Some guys are going to get kind of overcome with
- 22:57Speaker 1: family coming out of the woodwork. His height school team
- 23:00Speaker 1: was there someone's got to be the point person for
- 23:03Speaker 1: the Weatherhole family, and all of a sudden, it's like
- 23:06Speaker 1: on you to perform. And this guy is having a
- 23:08Speaker 1: monster series. He is he is beyond his age in
- 23:13Speaker 1: terms of I don't know, wisdom or his his ability
- 23:17Speaker 1: to perform, perform in big moments.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Jim, some people at big nuts, and it seems like
- 23:23Speaker 6: this kid does. There's really no other way to say it, Like, like,
- 23:27Speaker 6: let's be honest. Opening day, Homer's in Saint Louis, like
- 23:30Speaker 6: this is what this is. Why when we talk to
- 23:32Speaker 6: Ali about when do you know he was ready? Like
- 23:35Speaker 6: all you knew he was ready real quick. It wasn't
- 23:38Speaker 6: one of those things where you had to be like
- 23:41Speaker 6: you had to figure it out. It was like this
- 23:43Speaker 6: kid had it. He knew what he was trying to do,
- 23:44Speaker 6: and he knows what he's trying to accomplish day in
- 23:46Speaker 6: and day out. You're gonna have your ups and downs
- 23:48Speaker 6: in this game. You're gonna go through your streaks, whatever
- 23:50Speaker 6: it may be. You know, he had some times where,
- 23:53Speaker 6: you know, after the first week or so, and now
- 23:55Speaker 6: he's kind of coming back into it. So he's he
- 23:57Speaker 6: has everything you need. He has all the intangible. That
- 24:00Speaker 6: all he was talking about when we asked him about him. So,
- 24:03Speaker 6: you know, I don't think now I think we're starting
- 24:05Speaker 6: to he gets to play now instead of hey, I'm
- 24:08Speaker 6: trying to prove it, so he gets to go home after.
- 24:10Speaker 6: I think it kind of worked out well to him.
- 24:12Speaker 6: He had a month of games under his belt before
- 24:13Speaker 6: he got to go home, so that's huge for him.
- 24:16Speaker 6: And then you get to go home, you get to
- 24:17Speaker 6: show off. Some people enjoy that and then some people
- 24:20Speaker 6: it might be too much for him. It looks like
- 24:22Speaker 6: he uh he enjoys some home cooking and he uh,
- 24:26Speaker 6: you know, enjoys everyone out there to see him in
- 24:29Speaker 6: his hometown. So that tells you where he's at. He's
- 24:31Speaker 6: not afraid of the stage and uh he embraces it.
- 24:34Speaker 6: So and that's exactly what all he said. He was
- 24:36Speaker 6: ready for the day one of spring training when he
- 24:38Speaker 6: was talking to him. So you know, I think, you know,
- 24:40Speaker 6: we found something really good here and if fits well
- 24:42Speaker 6: with what they're trying to trying to build around in
- 24:44Speaker 6: Saint Louis Holliday.
- 24:47Speaker 1: What are your what are the things that stand out
- 24:49Speaker 1: to you about JJ? What impresses you the most about
- 24:52Speaker 1: that young guy.
- 24:55Speaker 5: Well, I mean I saw him back in college at
- 24:57Speaker 5: West Virginia, and I've always been impressed with the his
- 25:00Speaker 5: ability to drive the ball the other way, UH.
- 25:03Speaker 2: To use the whole field.
- 25:04Speaker 4: UH.
- 25:05Speaker 5: In a day and age where people want people to
- 25:07Speaker 5: pull the ball in the air more, which is fine,
- 25:10Speaker 5: I still think that there's so much value in guys
- 25:12Speaker 5: that can do damage to the off gap makes it
- 25:15Speaker 5: much more difficult to pitch to.
- 25:17Speaker 3: UH.
- 25:17Speaker 2: They don't strike out as much. They don't make it.
- 25:19Speaker 5: UH, they don't make as many easy soft outs because
- 25:24Speaker 5: they they're willing to stay on the ball longer.
- 25:26Speaker 2: They're not sold out.
- 25:27Speaker 5: To try to get the head out to to to
- 25:29Speaker 5: try to pull everything. And and so I've always been
- 25:32Speaker 5: impressed with that. I think that that's the one thing
- 25:34Speaker 5: that I've really liked about him ever since college is
- 25:36Speaker 5: UH he's inside and behind the ball.
- 25:39Speaker 2: He stays behind the ball.
- 25:40Speaker 5: UH, he can drive it to left center UH and
- 25:43Speaker 5: then he can pull off speed pitches. So that makes
- 25:45Speaker 5: him a very guy, tough guy to pitch too. And
- 25:48Speaker 5: I think that's ultimately what's gonna make him a great hitter,
- 25:52Speaker 5: is that he keeps the bat and strikes on a
- 25:53Speaker 5: long time and and uh and is not easily fooled.
- 25:56Speaker 5: And I think that that's that's something in today's baseball
- 26:00Speaker 5: it not a lot of guys have, and that could
- 26:02Speaker 5: be a good separator for him. I think it's worth
- 26:05Speaker 5: pointing out Riley O'Brien too, when we talk about unsung heroes.
- 26:08Speaker 5: Maybe I think having a closer U thirty one year
- 26:11Speaker 5: old guy uh be able to step up his whips
- 26:13Speaker 5: zero point seven eight. Having a closer like that that's
- 26:18Speaker 5: come in and done the job, I think it's worth
- 26:20Speaker 5: pointing out.
- 26:20Speaker 2: At least for me.
- 26:21Speaker 5: I didn't know a lot about Riley O'Brien until last year,
- 26:25Speaker 5: And you know, I think they kind of counted on
- 26:27Speaker 5: standing a little bit to be the closer or jojo
- 26:29Speaker 5: or figure out who's going to close games. And to
- 26:31Speaker 5: have somebody come in uh and do the job like
- 26:34Speaker 5: he's done, I think has been huge for their start.
- 26:37Speaker 4: I was gonna pick.
- 26:38Speaker 7: I love it, man, I love it. I love it
- 26:41Speaker 7: when a position player points out a pitcher man just
- 26:44Speaker 7: wounds my heart.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Matt, thank you.
- 26:50Speaker 6: Is he's a pain in the ass to pitch you
- 26:51Speaker 6: because he's not afraid to go the.
- 26:53Speaker 3: Backside that those guys are the hardest guys to pitch.
- 26:56Speaker 1: You.
- 26:56Speaker 6: If you know you're trying to pull everything you know,
- 26:58Speaker 6: you know where you can go. So he does things
- 27:01Speaker 6: that are hard to pitch too, and that's going to
- 27:03Speaker 6: make him be able to sustain success in the major leagues.
- 27:07Speaker 1: By the way, Cardinal Territory is brought to you by
- 27:11Speaker 1: fan Duel and now our friends at FanDuel are trying
- 27:14Speaker 1: to give you a chance to pick your shot. So
- 27:18Speaker 1: make your pick on who's gonna homer in their game
- 27:21Speaker 1: free and you'll get a profit boost to use on
- 27:25Speaker 1: your next bet for bigger winnings. Okay, I'm calling the
- 27:29Speaker 1: next homer to be by Burley. We've already talked about
- 27:32Speaker 1: Walkers back in the home run groove right JJ's on
- 27:36Speaker 1: a home run bench again. I think Burley. So who
- 27:39Speaker 1: it could be against the Dodgers could be later today, Kyle.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Since we left off with Matt, who's your guy.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Tot homer next?
- 27:47Speaker 7: I think I think I'm gonna roll with the young guy.
- 27:49Speaker 7: I'm gonna roll with JJ.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:51Speaker 7: I just had a chance to watch this swing just now, man.
- 27:55Speaker 7: Confidence swinging confidence stood up on it. It didn't go
- 27:59Speaker 7: into the alleg but holy smokes he hit that ball well,
- 28:03Speaker 7: So I think on the weekend, uh, JJ weatherholds a
- 28:06Speaker 7: guy against some of these rities, uh and the Dodger starters.
- 28:09Speaker 4: I think he's gonna leave the yard bush, how about you, Lance?
- 28:16Speaker 3: So we think are we counting them later today? We
- 28:18Speaker 3: might get another one today? Yes?
- 28:20Speaker 6: Is that where we're going? I'm gonna go. I'm gonna
- 28:23Speaker 6: go Gorman today. Later in this game. I think he's
- 28:25Speaker 6: gonna get into those middle believers in the seventh inning
- 28:28Speaker 6: when they're down by six.
- 28:31Speaker 4: I like it.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And Gorman, by the way, for those keeping score at
- 28:35Speaker 1: home in runs above average defensively at third base, I
- 28:39Speaker 1: think he's second among third basemen quietly contributing.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I like Gorman.
- 28:43Speaker 1: How about you Holiday, who's gonna homer?
- 28:47Speaker 5: I mean, good grief in a game Paul Skeens is pitching,
- 28:49Speaker 5: we're trying to predict another homer in this game. I mean,
- 28:53Speaker 5: I think it's a big of a bit of a stretch.
- 28:55Speaker 5: And you guys just named like this three times. You
- 28:59Speaker 5: haven't given me many options. I'll go Herrera, how about
- 29:03Speaker 5: that is even playing today? Let me see, okay, I'll
- 29:09Speaker 5: take a shot with her Ara.
- 29:10Speaker 3: How about that?
- 29:12Speaker 2: And then too, Yeah, it's.
- 29:15Speaker 4: Car overah couldie Dodgers.

- 29:57Speaker 1: Welcome back to Cardinal Territory final segment and the Cardinals,
- 30:00Speaker 1: once they get done in Pittsburgh, hopefully completing the sweep,
- 30:04Speaker 1: they'll be taking on the Dodgers. I'm trying to think.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna start with Kyle Gibson here. Kyle, tell me
- 30:13Speaker 1: what you think about the Dodgers is are they just
- 30:16Speaker 1: gonna keep running the table? I mean, the Cardinals are lucky,
- 30:20Speaker 1: by the way, because they're not catching the front part
- 30:23Speaker 1: of the rotation. They're kind of catching the middle part,
- 30:25Speaker 1: so they get they get lucky they get Shian Sasaki
- 30:29Speaker 1: and Robe Leski. They're not getting in front of it.
- 30:33Speaker 1: But what do you think about the Dodgers. Is are
- 30:36Speaker 1: there gonna be any choppy waters for them at any point?
- 30:40Speaker 7: I mean, I think they're coming off a series lost Jim,
- 30:42Speaker 7: so yeah, they just lost the Marlins. I mean, we
- 30:47Speaker 7: could be I think for the Cardinal's sake, For the
- 30:50Speaker 7: Cardinal sake, I would love to see it be two
- 30:52Speaker 7: series in a row. And maybe this is the choppy
- 30:54Speaker 7: part that the Dodgers go through here at the beginning
- 30:57Speaker 7: of May. Yes, they will go through a choppy part.
- 31:01Speaker 7: I don't think, you know, at twenty and eleven, I
- 31:04Speaker 7: don't think they're gonna win one hundred and fifteen and
- 31:08Speaker 7: go forty whatever.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Like, I don't think.
- 31:10Speaker 7: I don't think that's gonna happen one hundred and fifteen
- 31:12Speaker 7: and fifty one or whatever that math works out to be.
- 31:16Speaker 7: So no, I mean, I think I think every team
- 31:20Speaker 7: goes through struggles. I think the Cardinals, who are playing
- 31:23Speaker 7: really well, are coming up against probably a pretty hungry
- 31:26Speaker 7: Dodgers team coming into Bush Stadium. So yeah, it could be. Uh,
- 31:30Speaker 7: it could be a little interesting. But I really like
- 31:32Speaker 7: how the Cardinals are are swinging the bat. They had
- 31:35Speaker 7: a couple of ers yesterday, but they work through it.
- 31:37Speaker 7: I like how they're throwing the ball. I like their bullpen.
- 31:40Speaker 7: I know stank and a couple of guys have been struggling,
- 31:42Speaker 7: but I really like where the Cardinals are playing and
- 31:45Speaker 7: how the Dodgers just lost a series here. So yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 7: I would I would look for the Cardinal pitching to
- 31:52Speaker 7: maybe quiet the bats again and see if they could
- 31:54Speaker 7: get another series win here.
- 31:58Speaker 1: I just like that the Cardinals, you know, being young,
- 32:00Speaker 1: and there's gonna be you know, some mistakes here, there's
- 32:04Speaker 1: gonna be some rough stuff around the edges. Lance they
- 32:07Speaker 1: I guarantee they're they're gonna be psyched up for this series.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Doesn't seem like they get intimidated by anybody.
- 32:14Speaker 6: Hey, doll, I think you're looking at the positive when
- 32:16Speaker 6: when you have a young team is they're winning games
- 32:18Speaker 6: in a lot of different ways, whether it's hey, we're
- 32:20Speaker 6: gonna play defense and we're gonna win by one low
- 32:23Speaker 6: scoring or the other day they put up eleven, like
- 32:26Speaker 6: they're starting to figure out different ways to win games
- 32:29Speaker 6: instead of saying, hey, we need to have a miraculous
- 32:31Speaker 6: comeback late in the game too, Right, they're starting to
- 32:34Speaker 6: get ahead.
- 32:34Speaker 3: They're starting to build on those leads.
- 32:36Speaker 6: When they get ahead, their offense or their defenses holding them,
- 32:39Speaker 6: pitchings holding them. So that's the fun start or the
- 32:42Speaker 6: fun stuff. As you watch games, it's, hey, it's easy
- 32:45Speaker 6: to win games when everything goes perfect.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 32:47Speaker 6: They're starting to win games and do things in a
- 32:49Speaker 6: lot of different varieties, and you're gonna have to do
- 32:52Speaker 6: that as the year goes on, whether your pitching's not
- 32:54Speaker 6: doing one's supposed to. Defense you know, has a has
- 32:57Speaker 6: a couple of airs that day, but you pick them
- 32:58Speaker 6: up in another way, or hey, offense isn't scoring more
- 33:01Speaker 6: than three runs in the last four or five games,
- 33:03Speaker 6: But hey, we're winning because we're pitching and playing defense.
- 33:06Speaker 3: So that's the beauty of baseball.
- 33:09Speaker 6: But that's the beauty of this group is they can
- 33:10Speaker 6: play defense, they can get on base, they can do
- 33:13Speaker 6: some things. They can pitch the ball when they need to.
- 33:16Speaker 6: So it's a fun, fun vibe, right, And that's what
- 33:18Speaker 6: we kind of hope that was going to come. We
- 33:20Speaker 6: knew they were talented, but how are they going to
- 33:22Speaker 6: put all these things together? Because you didn't know what
- 33:24Speaker 6: you were going to get day in and day out,
- 33:26Speaker 6: But day in and day out, they're figuring how to
- 33:27Speaker 6: win with what they have that day. And that's the
- 33:30Speaker 6: fun thing that I see because it's not always going
- 33:33Speaker 6: to be perfect. You're always gonna be able to get
- 33:34Speaker 6: your a swing off, You're always going to have your
- 33:36Speaker 6: best stuff on the mound, But how can I figure
- 33:38Speaker 6: out how to win the game? And that group is
- 33:39Speaker 6: buying into that, always got them buying into that. The
- 33:42Speaker 6: coaching staff hasn't buying into that. Whatever we have today,
- 33:45Speaker 6: let's figure out how to win it. And I think,
- 33:46Speaker 6: like you said, they're going to come with some energy
- 33:48Speaker 6: because they are playing the Dodgers. They get the Dodgers
- 33:50Speaker 6: back half of the rotation, so that should be huge
- 33:53Speaker 6: for the boys. And then now it's like, hey, the
- 33:54Speaker 6: rotation's got to quiet the guys.
- 33:56Speaker 3: They need to quiet.
- 33:57Speaker 6: They play good defense, and let's see if we can
- 33:58Speaker 6: win two out of three, be a fun little win.
- 34:01Speaker 3: That's it. You know, it's a huge series if they
- 34:02Speaker 3: can win too out of three.
- 34:04Speaker 1: One of the things, Matt, that I've seen a lot
- 34:07Speaker 1: recently is that the coaching staff prepares these guys. They
- 34:11Speaker 1: pick up on tells, like they know when a pitcher,
- 34:15Speaker 1: you know, you can steal off them, or a catcher
- 34:18Speaker 1: is a little slow, you know, getting rid of the ball.
- 34:20Speaker 1: It does seem like the Cardinals every game have an
- 34:23Speaker 1: edge on the other team's tells.
- 34:25Speaker 4: Have you seen that?
- 34:27Speaker 5: Well, I mean, look, they have great baseball people working
- 34:30Speaker 5: on their staff. I mean we've played with JJ and
- 34:33Speaker 5: and Scals and obviously Ali and uh no Ali.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Really well, I mean this it's a hard work working
- 34:40Speaker 2: group of people.
- 34:42Speaker 5: You know, I I don't know all their guys that well,
- 34:45Speaker 5: but and knowing and knowing those guys, I'm not surprised.
- 34:50Speaker 5: I mean, those are great baseball people.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 5: Look, I think that all the staffs in Major League
- 34:57Speaker 5: Baseball spent a ton of time, and everybody's got analytics team,
- 35:00Speaker 5: and they've got they've got people watching for tails, They've
- 35:03Speaker 5: got people looking for pitchers tendencies or maybe grips or
- 35:08Speaker 5: what they can see from second base or you know,
- 35:11Speaker 5: guy comes to set, you know if is he doing
- 35:13Speaker 5: something different on different pitches.
- 35:15Speaker 2: So I think that's going on league wide.
- 35:17Speaker 5: I mean, I obviously I think the Cardinals do a
- 35:19Speaker 5: good job with it, but I think that everybody is
- 35:22Speaker 5: looking for an advantage and and so there's there's certainly
- 35:27Speaker 5: some some cat and mouse going on with guys looking
- 35:31Speaker 5: for for things like that. But I think all in all,
- 35:34Speaker 5: you can't really rely on that kind of stuff. Look,
- 35:36Speaker 5: you have to go out and execute baseball. I mean,
- 35:38Speaker 5: you can't rely on on you know, tails or no
- 35:40Speaker 5: one pitches are coming. Obviously, if you get something, it's great,
- 35:44Speaker 5: But at the same time, like they were talking about earlier,
- 35:47Speaker 5: you have to go out and the starting pitcher has
- 35:49Speaker 5: to give you a chance to keep you in the game.
- 35:51Speaker 5: You have to get hits with runners on base, and
- 35:53Speaker 5: you have to have a bullpen that can come in
- 35:54Speaker 5: and close the door. And that's how you win games
- 35:56Speaker 5: in the big leagues. And if they can continue to
- 36:00Speaker 5: to do that, then they'll stay right where they're at,
- 36:02Speaker 5: you know. I think for us, you know, leading up
- 36:04Speaker 5: to this season, there was just a lot of question
- 36:06Speaker 5: marks on whether this was you know, that they could
- 36:08Speaker 5: hold this one hundred and sixty two games and what
- 36:11Speaker 5: that looks like come September. I think that's where you know,
- 36:15Speaker 5: the Dodgers, you talk about the depth of their roster,
- 36:17Speaker 5: They're gonna have ups and downs. They're gonna have skids
- 36:20Speaker 5: where they don't play great, but when it comes down
- 36:22Speaker 5: to it, they're probably gonna win between ninety one hundred games,
- 36:27Speaker 5: maybe a little bit more, maybe a little bit, you know,
- 36:29Speaker 5: probably more. But they have, they have experience, They have
- 36:33Speaker 5: a good roster depth, They have guys that can come
- 36:36Speaker 5: up from Triple A, they can fill in when guys
- 36:38Speaker 5: go down, so they have they have what it takes,
- 36:41Speaker 5: and then they kind of pace themselves to be ready
- 36:44Speaker 5: and healthy going into the playoffs. And that's what the
- 36:47Speaker 5: advantage of having all the talent that they have is
- 36:50Speaker 5: is that you know, they can hold guys out maybe
- 36:52Speaker 5: a little bit longer than normal, just to get them
- 36:54Speaker 5: one hundred percent healthy, knowing that they need their innings
- 36:58Speaker 5: or they're at bats come September and October. So I
- 37:01Speaker 5: think that the Cardinals just have to keep executing good
- 37:04Speaker 5: baseball and see what happens.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Cards Dodgers this week in at Bush Stadium should be great, gentlemen,
- 37:11Speaker 1: great job. Today was a fun show, and you guys
- 37:14Speaker 1: are all tremendous. I don't know where this stuff about
- 37:18Speaker 1: Ahole came out that Lance was talking about. You're all
- 37:20Speaker 1: great and that's going to do it for this addition
- 37:23Speaker 1: of cardinal territory. We'll see you next time. Hopefully that
- 37:26Speaker 1: episode won't suck.
