- 1:29SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Bet.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: I have no idea.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Actually, I think my I think Finn says that too.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:35SPEAKER_05: I don't know what it I don't know this one yet.
- 1:37SPEAKER_02: Um I'll have to well I might be able to look it up or something.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: I also don't care.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: But you know, whatever.
- 1:43SPEAKER_05: I'd be interested.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: So anyway.
- 1:44SPEAKER_05: So speaking of which, have you have your any did any of your kids have imaginary friends?
- 1:49SPEAKER_02: Imaginary friends?
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think so.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: Imaginary friends?
- 1:58SPEAKER_02: No, no, I didn't.
- 2:00SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: What did you?
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: You did?
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:02SPEAKER_05: His name was Jamie.
- 2:05SPEAKER_05: Well, I'm only I'm listening to a podcast and they're talking about the darker side of imaginary friends, how some of them could be demonic entities and such.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:16SPEAKER_05: So yeah, I was like, oh yeah, I had an imaginary friend, but I didn't like I didn't have like I didn't see him or have like, you know, you know, he never talked to me or made himself known.
- 2:28SPEAKER_05: I was just, you know, it was my imagin.
- 2:30SPEAKER_05: He was literally my imaginary friend.
- 2:33SPEAKER_05: But some kids have, you know, they're because then I I asked my mom about it, and she was like, Oh yeah, your cousin Lisa when they lived in a house, and then her daughter, you know, used to talk to somebody and used to walk down the hall like holding somebody's hand like this, but there was nobody there.
- 2:50SPEAKER_05: Stuff like that.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: Okay, I had all kinds of other things I was gonna talk about, and then now this I find this fascinating.
- 2:56SPEAKER_05: It is, isn't it?
- 2:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: So very strange.
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: So how old were you when you had this?
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, probably four or five.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: I mean, I remember I thought you were gonna say 18.
- 3:06SPEAKER_05: 51.
- 3:11SPEAKER_05: So Well, I mean, as you get older, you're like, man, was I friends with that person?
- 3:15SPEAKER_05: Maybe they were imagining.
- 3:17SPEAKER_05: Oh, he's just like, I don't know.
- 3:19SPEAKER_05: No, but I remember, you know, playing outside, because you know, I'm the older of the two.
- 3:23SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 3:24SPEAKER_05: And my sister is like three years younger.
- 3:27SPEAKER_05: So I would play by myself a lot, and apparently I would just like blah blah blah blah blah blah blah you're talking to Jamie.
- 3:34SPEAKER_05: Right outside.
- 3:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Well even dad remembered it.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: So you know it's gotta be pretty uh Was there a significance of the name Jamie?
- 3:42SPEAKER_05: No.
- 3:43SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: I don't you just Jamie.
- 3:47SPEAKER_05: I must have heard it and liked it or whatever.
- 3:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: And when did that go away?
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: When did I I don't know.
- 3:57SPEAKER_05: It was probably It's probably a long time ago.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: Well, obviously, yeah, but but I mean like were you still a kid when it went away?
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:04SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was pretty it was just a phase, you know.
- 4:06SPEAKER_05: I don't think I did it like that.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: That's interesting to me.
- 4:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I I've never had uh that I can remember anyway, uh an imaginary friend.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_05: I think it's just I think it's because of where I grew up, you know, very isolated, out in the woods, you know, there was no kids around.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 4:24SPEAKER_05: You know, it was just me.
- 4:25SPEAKER_05: It was just me most of the time, you know.
- 4:27SPEAKER_05: My sister was too young to play.
- 4:28SPEAKER_05: The coping mechanism, like, yeah, it was just well, I mean, they the way they're they you know they describe it as uh you know it's an outlet for your creative side.
- 4:36SPEAKER_05: You know, you're you know, you know, you're just having, you know, oh this is a you know, we do this together and you know, I play with my imaginary friend.
- 4:44SPEAKER_05: You know, but they're you know, they're they're more focused, of course, on the more you know, supernatural phenomenon side of it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_05: But uh yeah, it's it's kind of fascinating.
- 4:52SPEAKER_05: Some of these the some of these stories that people talk about their kids having these imaginary friends and the things they say to them and how they describe them, it's like whoa.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:02SPEAKER_05: That's creepy.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that now that is what's the podcast that you're listening to?
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: It's called Belief Hole.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Belief Hole.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_05: They're they're really they they remind me of us.
- 5:12SPEAKER_05: It's three brothers.
- 5:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:14SPEAKER_05: There's a set of twins and an older brother.
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_05: And they're just goofy.
- 5:18SPEAKER_05: They just they make up really silly jokes and they just you know, they just get off topic a lot.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: Who was I talking to?
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: I was talking to somebody, um, and uh I can't remember who it was, but they said that they they listened to a podcast and it reminds them of us.
- 5:35SPEAKER_05: Was it our podcast?
- 5:36SPEAKER_02: No, it wasn't, it was not our podcast.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Hey, I was an O'Brien and Doug podcast.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: It's right to me and you guys.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: Surprisingly, because our podcast does remind me of us.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Uh it's real weird.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: It is real weird.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: Uh we had our friend Jeff Carriani.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, Jeff.
- 5:50SPEAKER_02: Um text me.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: It's so fun to be back in touch with him because, you know, Jeff, Jeff, we gradu I graduated high school with Jeff.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: And Metonica Rule! So what happened so so the the the um how can I put this?
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: And he's gonna hear this eventually when he gets to it.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: He's only on season four, so we got to.
- 6:12SPEAKER_02: So, so um when we were in high school, Jeff was not in my friends' group.
- 6:19SPEAKER_02: Uh he was he was kind of uh how do I want to say this?
- 6:24SPEAKER_02: He was in a popular group.
- 6:26SPEAKER_02: And I don't know, I don't know what made me think that.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Um he hung out with the popular people.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: And I I was one of those guys that I actually liked the where where I was in high school because I was one of those guys that got along with everybody.
- 6:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we just You were the same thing.
- 6:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we we floated, we floated between groups.
- 6:46SPEAKER_05: I mean we yeah, I remember in high school, it we we had our own table all through high school.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:52SPEAKER_05: Me, our friends.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:55SPEAKER_05: And we were all all different.
- 6:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 6:57SPEAKER_05: Everybody was different.
- 6:58SPEAKER_05: I mean we and every day for lunch, we sat at the same table, freshman to senior year.
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: You know?
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 7:04SPEAKER_05: It was crazy.
- 7:05SPEAKER_05: Well, so did I tell you we would when I went to my 20-year reunion, I sat with uh Greg.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:11SPEAKER_05: I was sitting with Greg.
- 7:13SPEAKER_05: It was most of everybody.
- 7:14SPEAKER_05: And I looked at Greg, I said, hey man, is this look familiar?
- 7:17SPEAKER_02: And he goes, holy like your lunch table.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: So but you know, I I liked that, you know, uh aspect of my my high school career was was was that I kind of was was friends with everybody.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: And when I say everybody, you know you have your stereo well, maybe they don't today.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: I think they still do.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Your stereotypical um Got your job, your jocks, your stoners, your theater kids, your, you know, and and I just kind of fit in with everybody, which was really cool.
- 7:47SPEAKER_02: Anyway, Jeff to me, he wasn't uh a an a jock, but he was um he was in the popular crowd.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: And he was also actually after I got to know him, he was one of those guys that kind of eventually kept I found out that he just kind of m melded with everybody as well.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:07SPEAKER_05: You just he just has that personality.
- 8:09SPEAKER_02: But my it was my senior year in high school, uh senior, yeah, senior year in high school, when Jeff and I got really close.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Because I don't know if you know this, I think you do know this, but he was in a bad car accident.
- 8:21SPEAKER_05: Oh, it was a terrible accident, yeah.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: Bad, bad, bad car accident.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: And and and took a long time to recover, and then he eventually came back to school.
- 8:29SPEAKER_02: And when he came back to school, we were in the same um class, a couple of classes together.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: One of them was psychology and sociology, and we sat next to each other.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: We got really close.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: And uh just he was just a just a great guy, you know.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: We we we hit it off really well.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Fryzer up, sorry about that.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Um so so after we graduated, we kinda stayed in touch.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean he knew that I I was into the music thing and he, you know, I had an apartment, and he would come up and hang out with us in the apartment.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:01SPEAKER_02: It was just just a really cool, really cool guy.
- 9:03SPEAKER_02: Well, anyway, uh, you know, he eventually moved away to North Carolina and we didn't hear from him for a while.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: Every once in a while he would he would pop up, but yeah, he was like the poltergeist.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: But recently, like I say, probably within the last I don't know, six months or so, he's been just texting me out of the blue because he's listening to the podcast and loves it.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: And I think I think I read this to you, but I I gotta I gotta uh This is the dirt uh yeah, the dirt drifters.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:35SPEAKER_02: So uh so he says OMG season four, episode eighteen, the dirt drifters are phenomenal.
- 9:47SPEAKER_02: So this must have been an episode where we just talked about OMGs.
- 9:50SPEAKER_05: Well, I think they were the wall of the wall of tunes.
- 9:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: I just loaded a blank load of songs on my Apple Music.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: I love adding songs that you guys listen to.
- 9:59SPEAKER_02: It reminds me of sitting in your apartment and just listening to music for hours.
- 10:02SPEAKER_02: I'm catching up, laugh out loud.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: And then, of course, I said, Is this the one where we interview the guy from the band?
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: He says, No, you haven't interviewed him.
- 10:11SPEAKER_02: Thanks for ruining my future listening, though.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: Now I won't be surprised.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: I'm having the same feeling I had when I was told.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: I don't want to say that in case people are listening.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: Uh there was there was no blank.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: And then he sends me a picture of his dog.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: He says, 'Mookie is not happy with you either.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: I said, sorry, Mookie.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: It's a fantastic interview, though.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: You will love it.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is a good interview.' He says, I know I will listen, love listening to you guys.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, and John Carriani, his brother, right, said he would do our podcast.
- 10:42SPEAKER_05: That would be cool.
- 10:43SPEAKER_05: Wouldn't it be cool?
- 10:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 10:44SPEAKER_05: Because John's like famous.
- 10:47SPEAKER_05: Almost famous.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Almost famous.
- 10:49SPEAKER_02: Almost famous.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, we'll just have to set that up.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: I think John would be awesome back.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: So, and then he he texted yesterday.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Oh man, what an awesome interview.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: Such a cool guy.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: He's talking about Jeff Middleton from the Dirt Drifters.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Are you still in touch?
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: I can hear the amazement in your voice.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: The Willie Nelson reference is amazing.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: My dad used to listen to Willie all the time.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Hits me hard, man, and put a smile on my face.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: I said, We're friends on Facebook, that's about it.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: Super cool guy, just trying to make it and uh make it still.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: And he says, Aren't we all?
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: So I just thought it was kind of cool that uh you know he's been listening and catching up and he's glad he enjoyed it.
- 11:26SPEAKER_05: That was a fun interview.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: It was, it was.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: Jeff is a super nice guy.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, and it was really, really cool.
- 11:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he was very cool with us, and yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: Um so let's go back to um Oh bet because I've been Oh Bet! My my uh my son is on the way back from Bar Harbor because they had a soccer game.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: He won, by the way.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, good.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: And so they're heading back, and he's texting me.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: What happened um over the weekend?
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Was it over the weekend?
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: Because it was a long weekend.
- 11:54SPEAKER_02: It must have been Friday or Saturday.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: He got in the car, in his truck to go somewhere, and he couldn't put it in gear, and there was no tension in the clutch.
- 12:02SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: So we're like, oh no, he dropped the transmission.
- 12:06SPEAKER_02: Because he's let's just say he's a speed demon.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: He, you know, he's my son.
- 12:11SPEAKER_02: No.
- 12:12SPEAKER_05: So um coming from the guy that used to do E-tricks in his mom's station wagon.
- 12:17SPEAKER_05: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 12:18SPEAKER_05: I do! I guy was there.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: So So we couldn't we he couldn't take it.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: So uh I had the tow truck come and tow it up to uh Glenny.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and so so Glenny told me the bad news um or the good news or whatever.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: It's not the clutch, it's not the transmission.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: There's a there's a reservoir that was bone dry of like brake fluid and stuff.
- 12:46SPEAKER_02: Oh fluid or whatever.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: But there's a leak.
- 12:48SPEAKER_02: So they they topped it off, and um he doesn't know how fast the leak is.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: So good news, they put more in it and it's working.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: But bad news that needs to be replaced.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: The reservoir?
- 13:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because it's because it's leaking.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: He doesn't know how fast the leak is.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: So it could last six months, could last a few days.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: You know, he doesn't know.
- 13:11SPEAKER_02: So because we don't really know how long it's been leaking, I guess is the the problem.
- 13:15SPEAKER_02: True, good point.
- 13:16SPEAKER_02: So he says, um, you know, you can we can we can in order to replace it, we have to lift the transmission out and put the reservoir in and then put the transmission back in or whatever, and that's a lot of money.
- 13:32SPEAKER_05: That was a lot of work too.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a lot of work.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: So he says it can be done, but it's gonna be expensive.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: And he says, But I have this other car.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: So he's he's he I I'm not gonna say he's trying to sell me a car, but he he had one that uh you know he's he says he got for his nephew or whatever, and it's a standard, it's a Honda.
- 13:53SPEAKER_02: Um he thought that he would want it, but his nephew changed his mind, so he's looking to get rid of it.
- 13:59SPEAKER_02: And so he sends me a video of it, and it's a my it's a nice little car.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: And I trust Glenny.
- 14:05SPEAKER_05: Glenny wouldn't uh try to.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Oh no, no, he uh he always treats you right.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: And so so I'm I sent the video to Eli on his way back from Bar Harbor, and he's like, Oh, what do you think?
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: And I was like so I don't know what we're gonna do, but we're gonna decide tomorrow uh about whether we're gonna fix the truck or whether he's gonna sell out some.
- 14:23SPEAKER_05: Well now, would you get any money for the truck?
- 14:25SPEAKER_05: Well considering Eli hasn't paid anything for it.
- 14:30SPEAKER_02: I know, right?
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know how comfortable I feel selling it with a with a leaky leaky reservoir.
- 14:38SPEAKER_05: You could junk it for parts and maybe put some money in it.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 14:41SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 14:41SPEAKER_05: I mean because it's still in pretty good shape.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: It's in very good shape, you know, for for what it is.
- 14:45SPEAKER_05: Um I mean it's just it's just a matter, you know, how many more you know, more miles can you get out of it.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Well it's only got sixty eight.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a lot of things.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: It's two thousand nine and it's got sixty eight thousand dollars.
- 14:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it could you could it could go for another probably five, ten years.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: You know, I mean if realistically, I I agree.
- 15:01SPEAKER_05: I mean with a with a manual transmission, it's not as uh Right.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: You know, we uh and we just fixed the rocker panels.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 15:09SPEAKER_05: You know, and we Yeah, he hate to see that work go to the case.
- 15:12SPEAKER_05: I know, right?
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: OJ did a lot of work on it.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: He did a lot of work and good work and and for a reasonable money too.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: I I really, you know, uh we're we're leaning towards fixing the truck.
- 15:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think it's probably a good idea.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: So um but anyway, that's why we're having that text conversation.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: And then he says, I need a book to read.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: He's like, is that Dave Grohl book any good?
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: I was like, Yes, it's really good, but not for high school.
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: You know, not for like a book report, you know.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: I don't think anyway.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: What do you think?
- 15:39SPEAKER_05: I I think it could be because I mean he he has lived a very interesting life, you know.
- 15:44SPEAKER_05: And he and he is a he is a cultural um figure.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we never even talked about that whole thing about him.
- 15:52SPEAKER_05: You know, I don't really want to.
- 15:53SPEAKER_05: I don't I don't really honestly, everybody is flawed.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, no question.
- 15:58SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 15:59SPEAKER_05: Everybody's flawed.
- 16:00SPEAKER_05: I mean the fact that it took this long for this to happen, I'm actually that surprised me.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean Yeah.
- 16:09SPEAKER_05: I mean it could have been happened before, but now he, you know, now he's acknowledging it.
- 16:13SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he's acknowledging it, and there's a child involved now.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:16SPEAKER_05: So, I mean, now it's like you know, bumped up to you know, scandalous level.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 16:22SPEAKER_05: But I mean, I really you know, I mean, he's a rock.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: That's that's and you know, I I want to say we we purposely haven't talked about it, but we haven't really purposely not talked about it, but it's really a non-issue.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: It's not it's it's none of our business.
- 16:36SPEAKER_05: Really, I mean, yeah, I mean he he put out that statement and everybody was like, oh, and then everybody just moved on.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:43SPEAKER_05: I mean nobody's nobody's still talking about it.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_05: To be honest with you.
- 16:46SPEAKER_05: So I mean, uh, that's why I didn't bother.
- 16:48SPEAKER_05: I mean, I was just like, well.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: Although they did cancel their tour or something like that in the wake of it.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: But what you know, whatever.
- 16:59SPEAKER_05: I mean, they're still fairly young.
- 17:01SPEAKER_05: I mean, they could still tour.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:03SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: I try not to I try not to talk about people's personal lives, even if they are famous.
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: You know, it's none of my business.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 17:10SPEAKER_05: I know.
- 17:10SPEAKER_05: I you know, it's only faint we only know about it because he's gonna point out it and two, you know, everybody picked up on it.
- 17:17SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 17:18SPEAKER_05: But I mean, I mean, I haven't heard my nose itches.
- 17:22SPEAKER_05: Um I haven't heard anybody talk about it.
- 17:25SPEAKER_02: Yes, literally since then.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: Probably like a day or two after it just disappeared.
- 17:30SPEAKER_05: Everybody everybody's just like, man, we're moving on.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:32SPEAKER_05: I'm like, yeah, well, well, it's I mean, he's acknowledged it, he's owned up to it.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: Alright, let's done.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: And they're working they're working on story.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: They're working on it.
- 17:40SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure I if they're still.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure if they're oh yeah, jeez.
- 17:46SPEAKER_02: Um I don't know what that was.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Something something vinded.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Something fin did.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: That's the name of the podcast.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: Something finned.
- 17:55SPEAKER_02: Something Finn did.
- 17:56SPEAKER_02: And he didn't do anything.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's it.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: Something Finn didn't do.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: Because boys, teenagers, I'm telling you.
- 18:03SPEAKER_02: Trying to get into get him to do anything is just anyway.
- 18:10SPEAKER_05: If it's on their phone, then there's no problem.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: Oh, I know.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:13SPEAKER_02: Alright, so let's see what's what's happened the past little while.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: We uh we had a skinny Elvis rehearsal.
- 18:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Uh oh, I had a songwriter um workshop.
- 18:22SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: At the convention, and I was I was um anxious about it.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: I was, you know, nervous about it because it was um so so here's the thing.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: So let's just rewind a little bit.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: So before I went back into education or as a music teacher, I would I had a workshop that I would take into schools, um, mostly like elementary schools and sometimes uh like a high school um mental health class or something like that.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: And it was um songwriting.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: And it was it was uh like you know, just for fun for especially for the little kids, it's showing them how to write a song in the very basic way.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: And um so one of my uh colleagues knew that I had done that and said, and she was on the board of this middle school educators group, and she asked me to uh present the workshop.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: So I was like, sure.
- 19:20SPEAKER_02: Um so I was nervous about it because these aren't kids, these are educators.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: And so I was presenting to to people that you know supposedly their brains were fully formed.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: Um and why are you looking at me like that?
- 19:38SPEAKER_05: I was going to make a a scathing review of uh public education, but I'll leave it to myself.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: No, and you don't have to, because I think even those in public education agree with you wholeheartedly.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: So, but I was nervous, and so uh I won't go into this too much.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: I went to a couple of workshops and they were they were okay.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: And and I s there was four you could go, you know, four sessions you could go to, and there were multiple workshops that you could pick from.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: So I went to two and then I skipped the third one and went and sat in my car to get ready for mine, because mine was at the end of the day.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: And uh I presented it to about nine grown women, and I think it went pretty well.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: I was I was I was happy with the way it went, they were happy with the way it went, and uh uh we got kind of part of a song out of it, so it was so it was good.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Everything everything was good.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Good.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: So I was I was happy.
- 20:32SPEAKER_05: Yay! Yay! This is where that drop of the children going, yay would fit in nicely.
- 20:39SPEAKER_05: Wait.
- 20:39SPEAKER_02: Do I have a you have your applause button?
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but I don't have kids saying yay.
- 20:45SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Uh and then we had Skinny Elvis Sunday nights.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: We learned about what six or some seven songs?
- 20:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, six, five or six, something.
- 20:55SPEAKER_05: Something like that.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: And most times it was one or two times through.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:00SPEAKER_02: And we had it.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Next song.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: And we and we had it, so uh, I'll never remember them, but you know, whatever.
- 21:06SPEAKER_05: Now we don't have any gig coming up, so don't mind.
- 21:08SPEAKER_02: This is true.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: So um, and now John had had the day uh to himself, so he's trying to schedule all these other band practices.
- 21:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna get the country band together here pretty soon.
- 21:19SPEAKER_05: We're getting the band back together.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see, what else?
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: Am I missing anything that we are need to get caught up on?
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Nope.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: That's it.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: I think that's it.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: I think that's everything.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: All right, so let's move on.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: I have some new songs.
- 21:33SPEAKER_05: New songs are coming your way.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: So I will start with this one.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: I haven't read about it, but Rat.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Um let's see.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: They br recently released out of Out of the Cellar.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: Um, no, wait, let's see.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Must be a reissue.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, it's a reissue.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: Let me just read this article from Ultimate Classic Rock just because I haven't done my homework.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: Uh Rat.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Have shared Reach for the Sky.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Didn't they already have a song called Reach for the Sky?
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: I think it's on that album.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Um, a previously unreleased track from the classic 80s era.
- 22:11SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's not.
- 22:12SPEAKER_02: Um it took 40 years to get that song heard, declared a post on the band's official Facebook page.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Reach for the Sky was originally written in 82 and was earmarked for Out of the Cellar, the group's triumphant debut album.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: It was recorded during their 1983 sessions for the LP, but ultimately left on the cutting room floor.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: Rat later used the name Reach for the Sky for their fourth studio album released in 88.
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: However, the song of the same name was not included on the LP.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Okay, so that makes sense.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Features many hallmarks of Rat's classic sound, blistering uh dual guitar attack, courtesy of Robin Crosby and Warren Di Martini.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Uh anyway.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: So Reach for the Sky is finally getting its release now as part of an exploded or expanded fortieth anniversary reissue of Out of the Cellar.
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: So that's why they're releasing this.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: So 40th anniversary of Out of the Cellar.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: This is the previously unreleased track, which is the title of a rat album, but not on that rat album.
- 23:12SPEAKER_02: This is Reach for the Sky.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, that was huge.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Um Back for More.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: Back for more.
- 24:29SPEAKER_02: I think lack of communication was also a um that might have been a smart move not to put that on the album.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 24:36SPEAKER_05: Do you think it's okay, but it's not great.
- 24:40SPEAKER_05: I mean there's nothing fantastic about it.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I and I don't think uh how many songs were in that album?
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, ten songs.
- 24:48SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I'm I think it was a wise decision actually not to uh not to put that on the album.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: Not a bad song, but not a not a ho-hum.
- 24:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, ho-hum.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: So good on you.
- 25:00SPEAKER_02: But you can if you did really like that, you can get that on the new version of uh out of the cellar.
- 25:05SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: And the first song from Dream Theatre's Parsomnia album.
- 25:11SPEAKER_05: It's not coming out till February.
- 25:13SPEAKER_02: Um the song is called Night Terror.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: And we're only gonna listen to a little bit of it because it's 10 minutes long.
- 25:22SPEAKER_05: Well, it's a night it's a it's a it's a dream theater song.
- 25:25SPEAKER_05: I'm surprised it's not like 27 minutes.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Um Let's just look, let's well, they've got some lyrics here.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Um So the lyrics for Night Terror, spiders seeking shelter, fading with the dawn, vanishing at sunrise as morning light shines on.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Sacrificial martyr, victim dressed in white, headed for the slaughter, angels cry for her tonight.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: To the cross at the stake, to the lions on the rack I break, I break night terror, hysteria, nocturnal trial by fire, eyes open wide, but I can't see.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Night terror.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: It's an uplifting song.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: It's ten minutes long, so let's we'll see how long it takes to get to the meat of the song.
- 26:11SPEAKER_05: Well, knowing Dream Theater is gonna be at least seven.
- 27:08SPEAKER_05: Well, it's Mike Fourcoin.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Well, but it's not also because it's his first album back with bands.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: How many years?
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: 15?
- 27:31SPEAKER_05: He's got three bass drums! Holy freaking crap, dude.
- 27:41SPEAKER_05: You can tell you can tell Mike is a real oh yeah, unbelievable.
- 28:10SPEAKER_02: You know I I don't have any dreams eater.
- 28:13SPEAKER_05: Dude, you gotta get dream ditter.
- 28:15SPEAKER_05: I got a bunch of it, man.
- 28:16SPEAKER_05: It is just it is so amazing.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: The musician's gifted like next level.
- 28:22SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 28:32SPEAKER_05: He's not this, he's not he is, but he's been there the longest.
- 28:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: People people really they're very underrated.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: Oh, no question.
- 29:59SPEAKER_05: I mean I mean, these guys are master musicians, all of them.
- 30:03SPEAKER_05: I mean, after There is no slouches in this band.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, if you're if you uh if you follow Dream Theater, there's a reason.
- 30:10SPEAKER_02: If you don't follow Dream Theater, you just don't like that kind of music.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: The I mean, Mike Portnoy on drums, um, John Petrucci on guitar.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Dude is sick.
- 30:21SPEAKER_02: And uh Jordan Rudess, the keyboard player.
- 30:25SPEAKER_02: Do you know how you know he's an amazing guitar player as well?
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: I did not know that.
- 30:29SPEAKER_02: I mean I'm not surprised.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: I can show you some things on Instagram of it's like his left brain and his right brain are not connected.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: I'm not kidding.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: If you look at some of the things that he's doing with two separate hands on guitar and on key, it's unbelievable.
- 30:45SPEAKER_05: I mean, you yeah, I mean you watch that dude play, man, you're just like, what the he's like a he's a different planet.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 30:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: So so uh the album is what did we say the album?
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Parsone Parsomnia?
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Parsomnia.
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: And you said it comes out in February.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: I want to make sure that uh Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's February.
- 31:02SPEAKER_02: Uh Dream timing also aligns with uh what will be Dream Theater's 40th anniversary in 2025.
- 31:08SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 31:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, it's February 7th is when it comes out.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: That's what I thought.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: So Night Terror is the name of that song from Dream Theatre.
- 31:17SPEAKER_05: What was the name of the thing?
- 31:19SPEAKER_02: Parsomnia.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: That means something.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: Par par Parsomnia.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Should I look it up?
- 31:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_05: Google that bad boy.
- 31:26SPEAKER_05: Hey Google! Who's gonna get to it first?
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Hey Google!
- 31:33SPEAKER_05: Parsomnia, actually What is the definition of Parsomnia?
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: Parsom yeah, there's money doesn't mean that money we need to read the thing.
- 31:49SPEAKER_02: Oh no no no no.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, definitions and types.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Parsomnias.
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: The par the parsomnia, which doctors also call headbanging.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I knew it had something to do with uh can can also involve movements such as rocking on hands and knees, sleep talking.
- 32:05SPEAKER_02: Um yeah.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: So it's it's it's I knew it.
- 32:08SPEAKER_05: I knew it had some sort of deeper.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a di it's a sleep disorder sort of yeah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: But headbanging.
- 32:14SPEAKER_02: That's obviously my.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Oh, there we go.
- 32:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:16SPEAKER_02: So that's cool.
- 32:17SPEAKER_02: Um New Dream Theater.
- 32:19SPEAKER_02: I'm excited about that.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be a great one.
- 32:20SPEAKER_02: And I should, uh you're right.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: I should I should have some dream theater in my challenge.
- 32:24SPEAKER_05: You should get uh, what's the album?
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Uh because I love John Petrucci, he's an amazing guitar player.
- 32:30SPEAKER_05: What is the album I'm thinking of?
- 32:31SPEAKER_05: It's uh Metropol.
- 32:35SPEAKER_05: No.
- 32:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: There was one I because uh I went to Bull Moose.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: Did I tell you I went to Bull Moose?
- 32:41SPEAKER_05: You're about to.
- 32:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: Um so I told you I went to do my workshop down in um Waterville.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: So I stopped in Bangor.
- 32:49SPEAKER_05: Yes, Metropolis Part Two.
- 32:51SPEAKER_02: Metropolis Part Two.
- 32:52SPEAKER_05: I would scenes from a memory.
- 32:53SPEAKER_05: Get that album.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:55SPEAKER_05: It has one of the most amazing songs on it.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: What's uh what's the cover look like?
- 32:59SPEAKER_05: Because I almost It looks like this weird dude.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: Oh no, that's different.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: That's different.
- 33:03SPEAKER_05: That's all.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: Um so I picked a bunch of stuff stuff up that really cheap stuff, some some country stuff and and a couple rock things.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Um but I was like, I need to get this while I'm in Bangor because I'm headed to Waterville.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Um and I'm you know, I'm gonna hit the hotel about 7 30 that night.
- 33:23SPEAKER_02: So I I spent, you know, a good forty-five minutes to an hour in Bull Moose in Bangor and I picked up a few things.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: And so I get down to Waterville and I get up the next day, and didn't I drive by a bull moose in Waterville?
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: So I got done my workshop, and before I head headed up north, I went to that bull moose, uh, which actually I like better than the one in Bangor.
- 33:47SPEAKER_02: I mean it was it was big and had a lot of different stuff in it.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: So I was impressed.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Anyway, um Yeah, but I uh every time I go uh go to Bull Moose, that's Dream Theater's always, you know, on the list, and I see what they have, and they do have a couple couple albums from Dream Theater, but I'm like, do I want this?
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Do I want this?
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: Do I and progressive rock, I like progressive rock, but it's never been really my thing.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: So I always pass on it.
- 34:14SPEAKER_05: But yeah, you gotta really like a walk to like Dream Theater.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I really should uh I really should.
- 34:19SPEAKER_05: And you gotta have a lot of time on your hands.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: That's the thing.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: And I I also weigh that.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: You know, am I gonna listen to this?
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: You know, am I am I going to Yeah?
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: I mean, this this song is what, ten minutes?
- 34:30SPEAKER_02: Ten minutes.
- 34:31SPEAKER_05: That's a short song for Dream Theater.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: So um alright, Ultimate Classic Rock, while we're talking Ultimate Classic Rock, they have another list.
- 34:40SPEAKER_05: Yeah, another another big four.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: Now this one may be a little confusing to you.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Uh I understand it a little bit.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: No, no.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: I understand it a little bit because I was in radio.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 34:52SPEAKER_02: Um but big four of AOR.
- 34:58SPEAKER_05: Uh adult-oriented rock.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: Adult-oriented or album-oriented rock.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: So see, I know stuff.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: I'm super smart.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: It's like uh arena rock.
- 35:14SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 35:14SPEAKER_05: Like a journey and right.
- 35:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: So they they've listed the big four of that.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: So before we we read their list.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: Journey.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: Journey would be number one on my list.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:25SPEAKER_02: Are you?
- 35:26SPEAKER_02: They used to call it corporate rock.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: I don't know why.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Because it made a lot of money, maybe.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: I guess.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: You say Ario Speedwagon?
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: Journey, Ario Speedwagon.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: I would put Speedwagon up there too, actually.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 35:37SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
- 35:39SPEAKER_05: Uh Kiss.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: You would put Kiss?
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: I bet Kiss is on there.
- 35:45SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 35:45SPEAKER_02: So Journey, Speedwagon, Kiss.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: I would put uh one of the um Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees this year.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: Foreigner.
- 35:55SPEAKER_02: I would put Foreigner up there.
- 35:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Foreigner, definitely.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: So Journey Maybe Bad Company.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: Bad Company.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: So Journey, Kiss.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: What was the second one you said?
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: You're asking me?
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, Rio Speedwagon.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: Foreigner, bad company.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: What else?
- 36:11SPEAKER_02: That's five.
- 36:12SPEAKER_02: But I would just want to see if how how right we are.
- 36:15SPEAKER_05: I doubt Aerosmith would be on there.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I wouldn't put Aerosmith as as Corbett.
- 36:20SPEAKER_02: Uh Arena Rock.
- 36:22SPEAKER_02: Uh maybe.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: When you think of Foreigner, I think of like uh uh maybe sticks.
- 36:34SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, sticks.
- 36:35SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 36:36SPEAKER_02: Roboto, that type of thing.
- 36:37SPEAKER_05: Domol, I really got Tomo Robot.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Anymore.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: DOMO See to me Journey, Foreigner.
- 36:48SPEAKER_02: I would put Aria Speedwagon in there for sure.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Sticks.
- 36:52SPEAKER_02: Who else?
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't put KISS on there, I don't think.
- 36:55SPEAKER_05: But I don't know.
- 36:56SPEAKER_05: I I just think a big arena rock in there.
- 36:58SPEAKER_05: The like biggest arena rock ever.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: True.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: Um and if anybody's corporate rock, my gosh.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: It's KISS.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Because I mean they s the the merchandise alone.
- 37:10SPEAKER_05: They basically made merchandising a thing.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 37:13SPEAKER_05: Kiss lunchboxes, kiss action figures, kiss cartoons.
- 37:18SPEAKER_05: I mean, they they milk that for all that's worth.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 37:22SPEAKER_05: So I mean, good ones.
- 37:23SPEAKER_02: So we say, so we say, we say journey, we sh Ario Speedwagon, you say kiss.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: Uh Foreigner.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: Foreigner sticks.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: What was the other one that we just we said?
- 37:33SPEAKER_02: We had six.
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Did we?
- 37:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we did.
- 37:35SPEAKER_02: I can't remember what the other one was.
- 37:37SPEAKER_02: That's a good question.
- 37:38SPEAKER_02: Anyway, so let's see if any any of those are on Ultimate Classic Lists lists.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: Who are the Big Four of AOR?
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Let's actually read the article.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: Oh goody.
- 37:50SPEAKER_02: Again, this is on UltimateClassicrock.com.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: There is no small amount of irony in applying Thrash Metal's Big Four designation to A.O.R., a subgenre that a young Metallica or Slayer would have only abhorred.
- 38:02SPEAKER_02: The resentment toward album-oriented rock makes sense, at least on paper.
- 38:06SPEAKER_02: Initially conceived as an FM radio format in the late 60s, AOR came to be associated with a specific brand of slick, highly produced rock with an emphasis on soaring pop hooks.
- 38:17SPEAKER_02: It was rock music designed to be commercially successful, and its makers made no bones about it.
- 38:24SPEAKER_02: There's nothing wrong with those ambitions, as proven by the decades-long staying power of many classic AOR hits, but it was an anathema to a subset of rock and metal artists in the 70s and 80s for whom rawness and integrity were more important than score uh scoring hits.
- 38:39SPEAKER_02: Never mind that authenticity and commercial success success are not mutually exclusive.
- 38:44SPEAKER_02: It took decades of hindsight for that revelation to become clear.
- 38:47SPEAKER_02: With that in mind, read on to see Ultimate Classic Rock's choices for the big four of AOR, album-oriented rock.
- 38:53SPEAKER_02: Ooh, I never thought of Boston.
- 38:55SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 38:59SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 39:00SPEAKER_05: They've filled arenas and say Michael Sweet's been posting pictures of when he was in Boston.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_05: So.
- 39:06SPEAKER_02: Uh so yeah, Boston, for sure.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: More than a feeling.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Big anthem.
- 39:10SPEAKER_05: That first album, man.
- 39:11SPEAKER_05: That was that's all arena.
- 39:12SPEAKER_02: Big big rock anthems.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, there you go.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: Journey.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: Yep, there we go.
- 39:18SPEAKER_02: Journey's their second one.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: I don't even have to read that one.
- 39:23SPEAKER_05: If you look, if you go back to that picture, if you look really close in the background, you see a lawyer.
- 39:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: You can just you can just see the ghostly image of his face.
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Oh, there's Foreigner.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there you go.
- 39:39SPEAKER_02: So for we were right on, we were right on journey.
- 39:41SPEAKER_02: We were right on Foreigner.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see, I'm scrolling down.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: Oh, and there's sticks.
- 39:47SPEAKER_02: No, okay.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Look at that.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Is that four?
- 39:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's four.
- 39:51SPEAKER_02: There's no Boston.
- 39:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we're so the only one that we missed was Boston.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: But I would put Ario Speedwagon in there.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: I would.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 39:59SPEAKER_02: You know, definitely top ten.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: Big pop, you know, hooks and stuff.
- 40:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 40:05SPEAKER_02: So we're pretty close on that.
- 40:06SPEAKER_02: We're pretty good on that.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: We did pretty good.
- 40:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:08SPEAKER_05: Good for us.
- 40:09SPEAKER_05: I'm happy.
- 40:09SPEAKER_05: We're super smart.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: Oh, Black Entertainment Television.
- 40:17SPEAKER_05: Oh bet.
- 40:19SPEAKER_05: Oh bet.
- 40:22SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: Let's do let's do a mixtape.
- 40:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah! Mixtap! There it is!
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: There's a theme song right there.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: I'm a songwriter.
- 40:36SPEAKER_02: Alright, past, present, and future.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Let's start with the past.
- 40:41SPEAKER_02: I had a I still am having a hard time with the with the present.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: The present?
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:47SPEAKER_05: It's kind of a uh you know uh obtuse uh song, you know, pick, you know, you know, it's like what song would I rebel to, you know, but yeah, yeah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_05: Anyway.
- 40:57SPEAKER_05: This is what our lovely judge said.
- 40:59SPEAKER_05: All super great.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: What was the past question?
- 41:03SPEAKER_05: Oh, it was the uh it's the first day of senior year.
- 41:06SPEAKER_05: What song?
- 41:07SPEAKER_05: What song is Blast Andy Carr?
- 41:09SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 41:09SPEAKER_05: Okay, all super great picks this week, but ultimately I had to go with Van Halen on Top of the World.
- 41:15SPEAKER_05: What senior rolling in on the first day of school doesn't feel like they're on top of the world?
- 41:19SPEAKER_05: And then the following line for a little while is vastly accurate.
- 41:23SPEAKER_05: Seniors are on top of the world until graduation and adulthood starts.
- 41:28SPEAKER_02: Top of the world for a little while.
- 41:30SPEAKER_05: And then the last line of the course, let's give it all we got.
- 41:33SPEAKER_05: Absolutely great mental state to start the first day of senior year.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: That's all I'm saying.
- 41:38SPEAKER_02: That's what our our judge said.
- 41:39SPEAKER_02: I like her even more.
- 41:42SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 41:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, so presents.
- 41:44SPEAKER_05: So present is the uh rebellion song.
- 41:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, what song uh defines your rebellion?
- 41:51SPEAKER_05: I think I still have it in the I usually leave it on top here.
- 41:56SPEAKER_05: Yes, I did.
- 41:57SPEAKER_05: Look at me, I'm so smart.
- 42:02SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 42:03SPEAKER_05: Uh so it is what song defines your rebellion?
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's just such a kind of an odd question.
- 42:08SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it is, but it's kind of cool.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: It's a hard one to think about.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:12SPEAKER_05: So I'll give you uh what Cousin Larry said.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 42:15SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 42:16SPEAKER_05: Cousin Larry says, mixtape.
- 42:18SPEAKER_05: So many great rebellions slash protest songs.
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: Tom Petty's I Won't Back Down came to mind right away.
- 42:24SPEAKER_05: We're not gonna take it by Twisted Sister, blamed Blair.
- 42:28SPEAKER_05: I think he meant Blair from my college dorm room stereo.
- 42:32SPEAKER_05: But he wrote blamed.
- 42:34SPEAKER_05: Another brick in the wall by Pink Floyd, and the Who's We We Don't Get Fooled Again also come to mind.
- 42:39SPEAKER_05: You can't think songs about rebellion without thinking about punk music.
- 42:44SPEAKER_05: And the question wants to know what song defines my rebellion.
- 42:48SPEAKER_05: I'm not sure I really had a rebellion, but the Ramones Rock and Roll High School is probably as close as any song.
- 42:54SPEAKER_05: I just want to get some kicks, I just want to get some chicks.
- 42:57SPEAKER_05: Describes high school pretty well.
- 42:59SPEAKER_05: Although I was a decent student, it was all about the girls.
- 43:03SPEAKER_04: Cousin Larry.
- 43:32SPEAKER_04: Really?
- 43:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: You know what this is?
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Uh this reminds me of and it's essentially Danny and The juniors at the hop.
- 44:01SPEAKER_05: It's actually surfing.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, at the hop, at the hop.
- 44:05SPEAKER_02: We can rock them.
- 44:06SPEAKER_02: We can rock them, we can roll them.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: We can dig it.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: Just with a little punk edge.
- 44:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:25unknown: Oh bah.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's that it is.
- 44:28SPEAKER_02: Oh boom, boom, boom.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: Very, very cool.
- 44:30SPEAKER_05: Good good choice.
- 44:31SPEAKER_05: Well, like the guy that discovered them playing at CBGB's.
- 44:34SPEAKER_05: He was like, this isn't punk music.
- 44:36SPEAKER_05: This is old rock and roll.
- 44:37SPEAKER_05: This is old rock and roll.
- 44:38SPEAKER_05: Just sped up.
- 44:39SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 44:40SPEAKER_05: That's what the guy, that's exactly what he said.
- 44:44SPEAKER_05: So, yeah.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 44:45SPEAKER_02: So what's yours?
- 44:47SPEAKER_05: Mine.
- 44:49SPEAKER_05: Rage against the machine.
- 44:50SPEAKER_05: Killing in the name of.
- 44:52SPEAKER_02: I can get behind that one too.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: Let's see.
- 44:55SPEAKER_02: Rage and against you know what?
- 44:58SPEAKER_02: I don't have any rage either.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: I just I and I call myself a music fan.
- 45:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: Some of the W Mosh to this a time or two.
- 45:30SPEAKER_05: Dude, I saw them in concert.
- 45:32SPEAKER_05: On they were torn with this album.
- 45:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 45:35SPEAKER_05: It was one of the most incredible shows I've ever seen.
- 45:38SPEAKER_05: It was in a.
- 45:40SPEAKER_05: In what?
- 45:41SPEAKER_05: The show was the show was in this, like, I think they called it the warehouse.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: It was downtown Honolulu.
- 45:51SPEAKER_05: And it must have been a thousand degrees in there.
- 45:54SPEAKER_05: And at one point, Zach Delarocha stops.
- 45:58SPEAKER_05: And he goes, he just kinda he he's kinda like he's kind of like kneeling on the stage.
- 46:04SPEAKER_05: He's like, us howlies can't stand this heat, man.
- 46:07SPEAKER_05: Which is howley is what the Hawaiians call white people.
- 46:10SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: Now you do what they told ya.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: Now you do what they told ya.
- 46:37SPEAKER_00: Now you do what they told ya.
- 46:39SPEAKER_00: Now you do what they told ya.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: Now you do what they told ya.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna stop it soon because it thought they told you.
- 46:46SPEAKER_05: Well the end is uh if you uh won't do what you tell me.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: So over and over.
- 46:51SPEAKER_02: So I I told you I don't have any I don't have any rage against the machine either in my collection.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: You know, I and remember we had uh the uh skinny elvis rehearsal and we were talking about doing break stuff from Lib Biscuit.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: And I actually said at the beginning of practice, I said, if you guys want to do this, we could do it, but it's not my thing.
- 47:09SPEAKER_02: I I just put it because it's fun.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: Oh no, I I agree.
- 47:12SPEAKER_02: And and so this is not my thing either.
- 47:14SPEAKER_02: I can understand this is your rebellion song, and but uh I never had one of those, you know, like devil horns moments.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: Um the closest thing that I could think of for mine was actually funny to me.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 47:31SPEAKER_02: Uh, and you'll I think you'll appreciate it too, because it's oh, anthrax.
- 47:38SPEAKER_05: I'm the man.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: Very uh beastie boys, actually.
- 48:38SPEAKER_05: Well, yeah, they were.
- 48:40SPEAKER_05: I mean they were the first ones to make rap and metal crossover.
- 48:45SPEAKER_05: Yes, they were public enemy.
- 48:47SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 48:47SPEAKER_05: I mean, you can see Scotty Ian right now, but he's wearing a public enemy t-shirt.
- 48:51SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 48:51SPEAKER_05: So, you know, they were great friends with but they still are great friends with the guys from Public Enemy.
- 49:02SPEAKER_02: I guess I guess I should have I should have watched this video because does the crowd kind of take away from it?
- 49:08SPEAKER_02: Not really.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: I can't really understand a lot of the lyrics because of the crowd noise.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: Lower up not a hilarious.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: No, man, it's yeah, so that's mine.
- 49:32SPEAKER_02: Anthrax, I'm the man.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: Uh, I just thought, you know, that's probably about as just uh in your face as I get.
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:40SPEAKER_02: You know, and it's uh it's it's funny to me.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: It's just a hilarious song.
- 49:44SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's a great song.
- 49:44SPEAKER_05: It's such a great I mean they're great guys.
- 49:46SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 49:46SPEAKER_05: They did this when I saw them live.
- 49:48SPEAKER_05: Uh they did this song.
- 49:50SPEAKER_02: Did they?
- 49:51SPEAKER_05: Because uh Danny Spitz's gear went out.
- 49:55SPEAKER_02: You told me this story, yeah.
- 49:56SPEAKER_05: So they just started doing all rap songs.
- 49:58SPEAKER_05: And they did this is the one they started with, and it was great.
- 50:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was so much fun.
- 50:01SPEAKER_02: Danny Spitz hasn't been with him for quite a while.
- 50:03SPEAKER_05: He quit pretty much almost right after that.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 50:05SPEAKER_02: What's he doing now, do you know?
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: No idea.
- 50:07SPEAKER_02: No idea.
- 50:08SPEAKER_02: We should look that up.
- 50:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:10SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, so uh Anthrax, I'm the man, killing in the name of from Rage Against the Machine, and Rock and Roll High School from the Ramones.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: One two three five, one two three five.
- 50:20SPEAKER_02: So those are the three present choices.
- 50:25SPEAKER_02: What is the future question?
- 50:28SPEAKER_05: What does the future hold for the game of mixtape?
- 50:32SPEAKER_05: Well, let's find out.
- 50:38SPEAKER_05: This is kind of interesting.
- 50:39SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 50:40SPEAKER_05: A little weird.
- 50:41SPEAKER_02: I like that look on your face when you read it.
- 50:43SPEAKER_05: Well, it's just it's just kinda when you see someone else pour the last glass of wine, what song plays in your head?
- 50:56SPEAKER_02: When you see someone else pour the last glass of wine, what song plays in your head?
- 51:04SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 51:06SPEAKER_02: Nothing immediate.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: Nothing, yeah.
- 51:09SPEAKER_02: It's one of those things you'll have to think about.
- 51:16SPEAKER_02: When someone's pouring the last you know, it might be different if we were if we were drinkers.
- 51:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I I don't even like wine, so whatever, man.
- 51:24SPEAKER_05: Somebody's pouring the last glass of Mountain Dew.
- 51:31SPEAKER_05: Break stuff! Run! Give me something to break! Give me something to break.
- 51:37SPEAKER_02: Um, so last glass of wine.
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: What song uh is in your head?
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 51:44SPEAKER_02: That's mixtape for this wake.
- 51:47SPEAKER_02: Uh do you wanna do the closing?
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: The closing of mixtape?
- 51:53SPEAKER_02: Why got my mixtape?
- 51:54SPEAKER_02: Thank you very much.
- 51:55SPEAKER_02: That's what I was looking for.
- 51:57SPEAKER_02: Alright, uh, we're gonna take a break.

- 52:14SPEAKER_05: Definitely not my underwear.
- 52:18SPEAKER_01: What?
- 52:19SPEAKER_05: What?
- 52:20SPEAKER_05: You don't read your underwear?
- 52:22SPEAKER_05: No, I said definitely not my underwear.

- 53:59unknown: Okay.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: Done.
- 54:01SPEAKER_02: Um, before we get started, I wanted to show you what I picked up.
- 54:05SPEAKER_02: What I picked up from KMH music.
- 54:06SPEAKER_02: Oh, what did you do one of our wonderful sponsors?
- 54:09SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 54:10SPEAKER_05: Albums Dean Motton's greatest hits.
- 54:15SPEAKER_02: Volume one.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: Volume one.
- 54:16SPEAKER_02: Noise.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: I also got, I don't know if you know who this guy is, Loud and Wayne Wright III.
- 54:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know that guy.
- 54:22SPEAKER_05: He's a great guitar player.
- 54:23SPEAKER_02: Great guitar player, great songwriter, just kind of an off the wall song.
- 54:26SPEAKER_05: Yeah, he's kind of uh offbeat, yeah.
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:28SPEAKER_02: And did you know that he was.
- 54:30SPEAKER_02: Did you ever watch MASH?
- 54:32SPEAKER_05: I used to, yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was the there was a guy that played guitar in San Francisco.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:37SPEAKER_02: I think we talked about that.
- 54:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was the guy in the in MASH.
- 54:40SPEAKER_02: And I got uh Sammy's album with Eddie Van Halen playing bass.
- 54:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:46SPEAKER_02: Uh it's called I Never Said Goodbye.
- 54:47SPEAKER_02: That's a good side.
- 54:48SPEAKER_02: Uh look at the price.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: Five bucks.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: Five bucks.
- 54:52SPEAKER_02: So I brought it up to the counter and he says, uh Morton says, yeah, I figured five bucks.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: You know, Brian will be in.
- 55:00SPEAKER_02: He knows his audience.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: We do that for him.
- 55:02SPEAKER_02: He knows his customer base.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: We'd do that just for him.
- 55:04SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, I picked those up.
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: Anyway, um it's time for to climb the wall of tunes.
- 55:08SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna say I'm gonna take my headphones off and grab an album, and while I do that, I'm going to read from A Hard Day's Right.
- 55:15SPEAKER_05: Hard Days Right.
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: Here I go.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: Here we go.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: Okay, so this is from Beatles for Sale.
- 55:21SPEAKER_05: The song is called Every Little Thing.
- 55:24SPEAKER_05: Every Little Thing was written by Paul for Jane Asher.
- 55:27SPEAKER_05: Another one.
- 55:28SPEAKER_05: With much the same theme as Things We Said Today.
- 55:31SPEAKER_05: Very much it's time.
- 55:33SPEAKER_05: It tells the tale of a lucky guy whose girl loves him so much she does everything for him.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: Should I should I?
- 55:42SPEAKER_05: Nah, I was just I was just pausing.
- 55:43SPEAKER_05: I was just thinking about that's uh that's so bubblegum now.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is.
- 55:48SPEAKER_05: Uh the girls' needs are not even considered, the assumption being that she should find her fulfillment in serving her man.
- 55:59SPEAKER_05: Feminists everywhere, heads are exploding, exploding.
- 56:03SPEAKER_05: Um it was precisely the attitudes expressed in this song that Jane Asher later challenged when she told Paul she needed to find fulfillment in her acting career.
- 56:14SPEAKER_05: It wasn't enough for her to be the girlfriend of a desirable pop star.
- 56:18SPEAKER_05: She wanted to make her own mark in the world of the arts.
- 56:20SPEAKER_02: Can't blame her.
- 56:21SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 56:22SPEAKER_05: Uh although the song was credited solely to Paul, who had come up with the basic for the track in his room at Wimpole Street.
- 56:30SPEAKER_05: England's so weird.
- 56:33SPEAKER_05: John remembered that he might have thrown something in, too.
- 56:37SPEAKER_05: It was an attempt at writing a single, but it became an album track.
- 56:40SPEAKER_08: She loves me now.
- 56:43SPEAKER_08: There is one thing I'm sure of.
- 56:50SPEAKER_08: Well, John's singing.
- 56:55SPEAKER_05: Every little thing she does.
- 56:58SPEAKER_02: Listen to these songs in your headphones.
- 57:00SPEAKER_08: I mean it's so much better.
- 57:02SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 57:02SPEAKER_08: And you know the thing she does.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: Like crystal clear.
- 57:07SPEAKER_08: She does tall me.
- 57:16SPEAKER_02: The drums are all over here.
- 57:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 57:20SPEAKER_02: But it works.
- 57:21SPEAKER_02: It's just unbelievable.
- 57:22SPEAKER_05: Well, it's like that.
- 57:24SPEAKER_05: Did you ever see that meme of George Martin sitting at a he's at a he's at a you know mixing board.
- 57:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 57:32SPEAKER_05: And the meme says, this man did more with four tracks than most people can do with 24 today.
- 57:37SPEAKER_05: I haven't seen that one.
- 57:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: But it's true.
- 57:39SPEAKER_05: It's totally true.
- 57:43SPEAKER_08: Every little thing.
- 57:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, good stuff.
- 57:47SPEAKER_02: Good stuff from the Beatles.
- 57:48SPEAKER_02: Every little thing from Beatles for Sale, which again I don't have.
- 57:51SPEAKER_05: You need to get it.
- 57:52SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 57:52SPEAKER_05: What's wrong with you?
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: No.
- 57:54SPEAKER_05: Oh, big stape!
- 57:58SPEAKER_02: Alright, so uh I have an album.
- 58:02SPEAKER_02: Angry Woman.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: What?
- 58:06SPEAKER_02: Aaron Watson.
- 58:08SPEAKER_05: Here it looks like Angry Woman.
- 58:11SPEAKER_02: You need new glasses.
- 58:13SPEAKER_02: Um, so I have an album.
- 58:15SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's because I was looking through the bifocal part.
- 58:18SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 58:20SPEAKER_05: No wonder it looks so weird.
- 58:23SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 58:24SPEAKER_02: I have an album, so let the guessing begin.
- 58:26SPEAKER_05: Is it a uh band?
- 58:28SPEAKER_02: Yes!
- 58:30SPEAKER_05: Rock band?
- 58:30SPEAKER_05: Yes! Freedom rock band! No! I don't know how to answer that.
- 58:37SPEAKER_05: Okay, so it's a rock band.
- 58:39SPEAKER_05: It is.
- 58:40SPEAKER_05: Um popularity.
- 58:42SPEAKER_02: 80s.
- 58:43SPEAKER_02: 80s?
- 58:44SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 58:45SPEAKER_05: Like glam rock, hair rock, hair rock.
- 58:49SPEAKER_05: Hair rock.
- 58:50SPEAKER_05: Molyco.
- 58:51SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 58:51SPEAKER_05: Poison.
- 58:52SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 58:52SPEAKER_05: Dawkins.
- 58:53SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 58:57SPEAKER_05: I'm still reading that book, so it's like all these bands are fresh in my mind.
- 59:00SPEAKER_05: Oh, by the way, I was re-watching that uh Back for the Attack.
- 59:05SPEAKER_05: I told you I would pick it up if I saw Animal Moose, yeah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_05: Awesome.
- 59:08SPEAKER_02: That's such a great album.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: What were we gonna say what were we gonna say?
- 59:10SPEAKER_05: Uh we I re I watched that um that series again.
- 59:13SPEAKER_05: Which one?
- 59:14SPEAKER_05: The Nothing But a Good Time series.
- 59:16SPEAKER_02: Oh, you watched the whole thing?
- 59:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, Bet uh Nuno Betancourt said something interesting at uh that I didn't pick up on the first time.
- 59:23SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 59:23SPEAKER_05: That's why I like to rewatch things because then I pick up stuff that I didn't pick up before.
- 59:27SPEAKER_05: He said something like towards the end of the hair metal glam rock era, because they were they were in the tail end of it.
- 59:35SPEAKER_05: Right, yep.
- 59:36SPEAKER_05: He said, he said everybody started to sound the same.
- 59:39SPEAKER_05: Every time you heard a song on the radio, you had no idea who was playing.
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's true.
- 59:43SPEAKER_05: That's what's happening today in country music.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: Not just country music, every music.
- 59:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:49SPEAKER_02: You're absolutely right.
- 59:50SPEAKER_05: So, what is going to be the thing that comes along that breaks that tradition?
- 59:55SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 59:55SPEAKER_05: So so just waiting for something new to come now.
- 59:58SPEAKER_05: So you had we're we're at that saturation point now.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: We've been at it for uh for quite a while.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: Quite a while.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_05: But what what is going to be the thing that breaks that?
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_02: That's a great question.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: Because you had you know you had your hair bands, which was um, you know, depending on who you talk to, ruined by grunge.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_02: What came after grunge?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_02: Things like Limp Biscuit.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_05: Well, first it was yeah, it was grunge, and then like Hootie came and you know, we hit they were part of it.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_02: I think they were there at the around the same time.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: Roots rock, I guess.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_02: Roots rock, yeah.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_02: But then then Limb Biscuit came and did that whole new metal.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_02: New metal rap thing.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: Um and they they did their they had their thing, yeah, you know, for a while, and pop was always there.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_02: But you're right.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, something's gotta come along to kind of mix things up.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_02: You know, take take from this and take from that and kind of make it.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_05: I thought it was gonna be like that that stuff that uh you know, the Avott Brothers and Muncie and I thought it was gonna be that, but it w it really just kind of that has a niche audience.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it really is, and it hasn't hasn't dominated Americana.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_02: Americana, yeah.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_02: Well, I guess you could say because like Zach Bryan, um Tyler Childers, Childers You know, that's like Americana country.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: Um, but they're very, very popular.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_02: Um and Avid Brothers and things like that.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_02: I guess that that kind of came and changed things a little bit.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: Chris Stapleton came and and took away rogue country for a little while.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_02: It's back now.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, it's definitely back.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: But you know, when Chris Stapleton came along, I mean nobody nobody sounded like Chris Stapleton.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: Very soulful, yeah, you know, country and bluesy country and I really wish they would do another Johnson Brothers album.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: Oh, I know.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: That was so good.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_05: It was, yeah.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_02: So if you if you don't know what we're talking about, uh Chris Stapleton was in a couple of bands.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_02: He was in a bluegrass band called the Steel Drivers, and they were amazing.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_02: I actually have a couple of their albums.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_02: Um and he was also in a quote unquote rock band.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_02: Um it was like a roots rock band, but yeah, but they rocked.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_02: Called the Johnson Brothers, and they were awesome.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_02: And then he went solo, of course.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, a new uh new Johnson Brothers uh album would be great.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_02: So yes, I told you that I saw this down there a couple weeks ago, and I happened to be down there last week and it was still there.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_02: So I picked it up.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_02: This is this is the album that made me love Dawkins.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, I like Tooth and Nail and and all those other ones.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_02: Uh, but this one uh for me was was it back for the attack.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_02: And here's one of the reasons why.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: Didn't realize there wasn't much bass in this.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_05: I mean it's there, but it was it was like 80 80s early now.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_05: I mean listen to Injustice for All.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_05: Where's the bass in that?
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_05: Right about the same time.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_02: And and most Van Halen didn't have much bass.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_02: So this is Kiss of Death.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_04: That's about it.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_02: But this is when they were breaking through.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, they had made a name for themselves coming up on the in the LA scene, right?
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: And they had uh uh was it um was Unchained the Night an album as well?
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_02: No, is that Underlock and Key?
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_05: Underlock and Key.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_02: Underlock and Key, Tooth and Nail.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_02: These were all albums that they had out.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_02: Uh but then they got the whole nightmare on Elm Street thing.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: And which which this That's really just what blew them up.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_02: Um where is it here?
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_02: This, of course, is what we're talking about.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_02: Well, we've talked about this before.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_02: Dream Warriors.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_02: They had this um song and the video for this song where Freddie Kruger was in the video.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, and uh Patricia Arquet.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_05: Right, right.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_05: This actually used the uh Nymar and Elm Street stack.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_02: This blew them up.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_02: They were huge after this.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_02: Um, but there there were songs on this album that were, in my opinion, classic.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_02: And I think we've we've talked about this one before.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, this video sucked so bad.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_05: Most most talking videos do.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_05: This one is this one is almost on the level of breaking the chains.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_05: I don't even remember this video for this.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_05: It's terrible, is it?
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_05: They did it in Boston, and it's like half, half them, half really bad animation.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's really terrible.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_02: I might have to look at it just for the giggles.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_02: What a great song.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_02: That's a great song.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_02: That's a great song.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_02: Burning like a flame.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_02: I want to get to the chorus of this one because it's too big.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_02: I mean, come on.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_02: 87, this comes out.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_02: Now, that was released as a as a single.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: Um, but there are songs on here like album cuts.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_02: Like Standin' in the Shadows.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_02: Great song.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: All right, get to the top.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_08: He wants to land.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_08: They couldn't understand.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_08: He wants them all from life.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_02: I don't want to play every song, but that's a great song.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_02: Heaven Sent, I think, was a single as well.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was a single, yeah.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that was and that was that's that was that was the last video they made before they broke up.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: Broke up the original lineup, is what you're saying.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_02: It's an interesting guitar tone too.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it's kinda this does no justice you fall in love.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_02: Now George Lynch, as a guitar player, was never my favorite.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: That's not to say that he's not amazing, but he is.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_02: And obviously, was influential a bunch of players.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_02: And was influential on me as well.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: But when you when I go through my favorite guitar players, my list of favorites, but he's not on there.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_02: But still, great.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_02: I like his guitar playing in the stuff that he's done outside of Docken better than like Lynch Mob and Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_02: I don't know why, but I do.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_02: Oh Mr.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_02: Scary! Mr.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_02: Scary.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_02: This is his masterpiece, his uh instrumental.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_02: Actually, I think um they make guitars now.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_02: George Lynch has a hand in making guitars and they're they're scary grooves, I think is what it's called.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_05: Well I always use ESPs and stuff like that.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_02: And really cool guitars, like it's the one with the reptile, the the snake, and then the skeleton.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_05: Well the skeleton one, uh I love that one.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_02: That's the one that he used in uh Heaven's Tent.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_02: Oh no, uh Dream Warriors.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_05: Dream Warrior one, yeah.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, great album.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_02: Uh so Kiss of Death, Prisoner Night by Night, Standing in the Shadows, Heaven's Tent, Mr.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_02: Scary, So Many Tears.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_02: That's a good song.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_02: Burning Like a Flame, Lost Behind the Wall.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_02: That's a good one.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_02: Stop Finding Love.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_02: That's another good one.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_02: Cry of the Gypsy, Sleepless Nights, and Dream Warriors.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_02: Great, great album.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_02: 13 tracks.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_02: Dawkin, man.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_02: 1987.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_02: So this is the last album.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_02: Last well, they did Beast from the East.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_05: Well, that, but that was a live album.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: It was a live album, yeah.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_05: Which they recorded in Japan.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_02: And and which is a great live album.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_02: Were they broken up when they released it?
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_05: No.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_05: Maybe they were.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_05: Maybe they were.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_05: They might have released it as like a as a you know, they had to fulfill Contract.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_05: Contract, you know.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_05: You need another album.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_05: But Beast from the East is a great live album.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, and the ver and the version of this the song that we're listening to.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_02: Scary.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_02: Version of Mr.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_02: Scary on Beast from the East is incredible.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_02: So George Lynch, Don Dawkins, Wilde Mick Brown on drums.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_02: Who's retired now.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_02: And uh Jeff Pilson, who has been in Foreigner and actually pretty much running Foreigner.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_02: Well, it doesn't surprise me.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_02: For 20 years.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_05: Once he joined Dawkins, he pretty much took over, you know, kind of, you know, the business side of Dawkins.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_02: And he was like the spokesperson and things like that.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_02: And he produced most of their stuff too, I think.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_02: And he he he's uh yeah.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_05: Well he had to be he had to be that guy because Don Dawkins and George Lynch hated each other.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_05: Oh throughout the whole history of that band.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_02: And it hated each other.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_02: It still surprises me and amazes me that Don Dawkins is out there with his version of Dawkins, right?
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_02: And if George Lynch is in town, George Lynch comes and plays a couple songs.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm sure.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_02: For for for the fans.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it amazes me that they get along enough to do that.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_05: Well it's probably just like, yeah, you're a jerk, but I'll do it.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_05: I'll do it.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_05: But I mean, maybe they've mellowed with age, you know.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_05: I'm sure, you know.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_05: I'm sure.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_02: You know, and it's I mean, it's I suppose it's money.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, you gotta you gotta give you know, it's for the fans.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_02: George Lynch is uh how many bands?
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_02: We would we talked about this one time.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, he's been like I don't know how many bands he's four or five bands?
- 1:11:55SPEAKER_05: Lynch.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_02: Well, more than that.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_02: Um he's been doing uh uh little projects here and there, but uh what wasn't the one he did with the guy from King's X?
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_02: Uh and the and the drummer from Night Ranger.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_02: Um talk about yeah.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_02: Uh K something.
- 1:12:11SPEAKER_02: K M.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_02: It's a three three syllables or three uh three-letter uh name.
- 1:12:16SPEAKER_02: Hold on a second.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: I wanna I wanna look at that.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_02: Here we go.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_02: Google to the rescue.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_02: We we we talked about this before.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_02: Um but I wanna just mention and and count the groups that he's in here.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_02: So it was mostly Daken and Lynchmob.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_02: Those were the two big ones.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:12:35SPEAKER_02: Um and he had and we did discuss that he's had a lot of solo albums that nobody ever knew about.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_05: Um he's not a singer.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_05: So he you know, so he he does like a Ted Nugent thing where he just gets somebody to, you know, gets a band around him.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_02: Uh I some some of these are just like one-off things.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: Uh KXM.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: That's what it's like.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, and Sweet and Lynch.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, Sweet and Lynch, forgot we forgot about Sweet Lynch.
- 1:13:00SPEAKER_02: Can we play a piece of Sweet and Lynch?
- 1:13:01SPEAKER_02: Heck yeah, dude.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_01: Let's uh let's just cause They only got two albums, so that was an underrated group.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_05: It really was it was really pretty great.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_02: It's one of those um It's one of those Frontiers uh teamings.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah Frontiers Records used it to put well they probably still do put together a uh like all-star bands.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_02: Revolution Saints is uh was a a product of Frontiers Records.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_02: Um what was the other one?
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: Black Swan.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_02: Black Swan, yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_02: Uh let's see.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_02: Uh something from Sweet Lynch the first album, maybe?
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_05: Either one, I mean before.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_02: This one was nine years ago, so let's try this.
- 1:13:41SPEAKER_01: I've been living in my car.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: No, that's not it.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_02: That's a commercial.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_02: That's a commercial.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_02: So this is Sweet Lynch The Wish.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_02: Um Sweet Lynch The Wish is the name of this one.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_02: So uh again, highly underrated uh uh album.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_02: Why?
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_02: I don't know, just like you're looking into the camera singing the song.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_02: Oh you're you're lip syncing your own song.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_02: Right, exactly.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_02: And Michael Sweet, who's essentially the lead guitar player for Striper.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_02: He's just singing on this one.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_05: Um, I don't I don't think George plays well with others.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_05: Well, obviously, he's in so many different Yeah.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_05: But I you know, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_02: So no, I'm the guitar player.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna play guitar.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_05: He's like, he's like, you know, you know, if it if his teacher was like, you know, and George plays really good guitar, but he's not play well with the other two.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_02: You know, that kind of thing, you know.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's like Mike, you you can sing and play guitar.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_02: Let me play guitar.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_02: Let me play guitar.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_02: You just sing.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_05: You got a really good voice, and I play good to play guitar.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you just do that, and I'll do this.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_02: Pretty much.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_02: But yeah, sweet and lynch, uh, ultraphonics.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_02: The end machine.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, end machine, I'm gonna go.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_05: Which is which is basically everybody but Don Dawkins.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_05: Well, is Wild McBrown in that?
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_02: It's Jeff Pilsum, Mick Brown, and George Lynch, and some rando singer.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_02: And they have Are you sure he was in the end machine the last end machine?
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_02: The end machine, the quantum phase, which came out last year.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_02: I think Wild McBrown was retired by then.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_02: I think he still played on it.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_02: Let me look up at the end machine here.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_02: Let's see.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_02: Past members.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_02: Mick Brown and Robert Mason.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_05: Robert Mason, that's the guy.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, Steve Brown?
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_05: Oh, his son! Yeah, his son played.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_05: I forgot about that.
- 1:16:22SPEAKER_02: Is it his son or his brother?
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_02: I think it's his son.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_02: Let's find out.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_02: Uh during the 2019 tour of the Evanescent drummer Will Hunt temporarily replaced McBrown, who then gave away permanently to his younger brother.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, his younger brother, okay.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_02: Steve, who took part in the recordings of the new album.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_04: Hey Steve.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_04: Hey Steve, I like Pika.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_04: You play Grummy.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_04: You play Grummy.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_04: I'll give you Pika.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_02: And then and the new album, so the the first two albums from the end machine featured uh Robert Mason on lead vocals who's from Warrant.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_02: Uh but the new album has Girish Krodon.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_02: I'm probably mispronouncing that, but he's probably from Norway.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_05: Let's see.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_05: From one of those Viking countries.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_02: Um that would be my guess.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_05: If this is a Frontiers album.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_05: They're really big at Swedish.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_02: Girish Pradon.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_02: It doesn't it doesn't really say where he's where he's from, but yeah, N Machine's really good.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, good stuff.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_02: Anyway, we see jumping off point was dark and we got we we heard from the sweet lynch and the end machine.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_02: Well we didn't hear from the end machine, but you know what I mean.
