- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to a special live edition Sunday Night edition
- 0:05Speaker 1: of Fair Territory. We are coming on in the middle
- 0:07Speaker 1: of the Yankees Red Sox game on Sunday Night Baseball.
- 0:10Speaker 1: And before we get started, I would like to congratulate
- 0:14Speaker 1: the Colorado Rockies on participating this season. They participated and
- 0:18Speaker 1: now they are eliminated. Bye bye to the Rockies. Yes,
- 0:21Speaker 1: they're going to finish the season, of course, but it's
- 0:23Speaker 1: a fairly early elimination, wouldn't you say. But to the
- 0:26Speaker 1: good stuff. We've got Yankees Red Sox this weekend, we
- 0:29Speaker 1: had Dodgers Padres as well. We've got a lot to
- 0:32Speaker 1: talk about the Mets coming up against the Phillies. The
- 0:35Speaker 1: Cubs may be closing on the Brewers, could it be well,
- 0:38Speaker 1: we'll see about that. But first Yankees Red Sox. Now,
- 0:41Speaker 1: as I said, this game currently is in progress and
- 0:44Speaker 1: the Yankees are leading five to two as we do
- 0:46Speaker 1: this live on Sunday Night. Even if the Yankees win tonight,
- 0:50Speaker 1: of course they would have lost three or four in
- 0:52Speaker 1: the series. They would be two and eight against the
- 0:55Speaker 1: Red Sox on the season. It's not good. And what
- 0:58Speaker 1: we saw entering this series we thought was a resurgent
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yankee team, But how resurgent was it really? When they
- 1:06Speaker 1: went seven to one against Minnesota, Saint Louis, and Tampa Bay,
- 1:09Speaker 1: three teams that sold at the trade deadline, And then
- 1:13Speaker 1: when you go and face a better club, the Boston
- 1:15Speaker 1: Red Sox, a team that has basically owned you this year,
- 1:19Speaker 1: you fall apart again. You saw the first three games
- 1:21Speaker 1: of the series not good for the Yankees, culminating with
- 1:24Speaker 1: Saturday's twelve to one embarrassment. Granted it was a game
- 1:28Speaker 1: Crochet pitched, a game the Red Sox expected to win,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but it disintegrated into something else entirely Now on Sunday,
- 1:36Speaker 1: for Sunday Night, we saw the Yankees finally bench Anthony Volpi,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and you see him there. He has struggled, both offensively
- 1:43Speaker 1: and defensively, and at one point, I don't know, a
- 1:46Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago, I wrote a column describing how
- 1:50Speaker 1: the Yankees kind of view Volpi as almost a teacher's pet.
- 1:54Speaker 1: They protect him, and as Chris Kirshner wrote in The
- 1:57Speaker 1: Athletic on Saturday, there's no reason to protect him anymore.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Among shortstops who are qualified for the batting title, he
- 2:04Speaker 1: ranks twenty fourth out of twenty sixth in wins above replacement.
- 2:09Speaker 1: He's only twenty four, We get it, but he's had
- 2:11Speaker 1: about eight hundred played appearances in the big leagues. If
- 2:15Speaker 1: not a goal glove defender, has extremely little value the
- 2:19Speaker 1: way he is hitting, the way he is so streaky.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So that was a positive step for the Yankees Sunday.
- 2:24Speaker 1: They had to do this move. In my opinion, We'll
- 2:27Speaker 1: see if Volpi snaps out of it, and we'll see
- 2:29Speaker 1: if Jose Caballero now maybe gives them a lift. It
- 2:32Speaker 1: all remains to be seen, and Volpi is only one player,
- 2:35Speaker 1: one part of a much larger problem. This is a
- 2:39Speaker 1: team that we have seen sloppy. We have seen them stumble.
- 2:42Speaker 1: We have seen repeatedly, not just this year, not just
- 2:46Speaker 1: in Game five of last year's World Series, but for
- 2:48Speaker 1: quite some time now. A team that lacks fundamental soundness,
- 2:53Speaker 1: a team that, frankly, as I wrote during last year's
- 2:56Speaker 1: World Series, at times, looks like it doesn't know how
- 2:59Speaker 1: to play baseball. That's a huge problem. Now things can
- 3:03Speaker 1: get better, get better when Judge gets back to the outfield.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Maybe they have an outfield then a Judge Grisham and
- 3:08Speaker 1: Bellinger much better Defensively, you get Domingez out of left,
- 3:12Speaker 1: they get better. If Max Freed is as good as
- 3:14Speaker 1: he looked in this series, he had a bounce back start,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and with Rodin and him impossibly schlitter and maybe warrened
- 3:22Speaker 1: or Heels stepping up, you've got something in the rotation
- 3:25Speaker 1: and their bullpen should stabilize. I do expect that. But
- 3:29Speaker 1: the Yankees are if they win this game on Sunday
- 3:32Speaker 1: Night two and eight against the Red Sox, three and
- 3:34Speaker 1: seven against the Blue Jays, and you wonder where this
- 3:38Speaker 1: is all going. What happens if they miss the playoffs unlikely,
- 3:42Speaker 1: but what happens more likely they could get knocked out early.
- 3:46Speaker 1: That's certainly a scenario we can envision happening. Does Aaron
- 3:49Speaker 1: Boone come back, does Brian Cashman come back? Or do
- 3:52Speaker 1: they finally turn the page? All of this seemingly is
- 3:55Speaker 1: in play now. The Red Sox obviously the flip side
- 3:59Speaker 1: of the coin here. Terrific series for them against the Yankees,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and terrific because they got a strong star from Beao,
- 4:06Speaker 1: a strong star from Crochet. Now Dustin may not so
- 4:09Speaker 1: good Sunday Night. He's been a little bit inconsistent, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: I question with the Red Sox, the one thing I
- 4:14Speaker 1: question is whether their rotation will be good enough in
- 4:17Speaker 1: the postseason. Bueller is out now, Kyle Harrison looks like
- 4:21Speaker 1: he's going to replace him on Monday Night. So you're
- 4:24Speaker 1: looking at crochet Cy young candidate, one of the best
- 4:26Speaker 1: pitchers in baseball right now, BeO an emerging star perhaps
- 4:30Speaker 1: but still young. And Giolito, who has been up and down,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and then where do you go from there? That's my
- 4:36Speaker 1: question with the Red Sox. They're getting healthier in the bullpen,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and certainly their lineup right now is really intriguing. I
- 4:43Speaker 1: kind of love their lineup with Roman Anthony of course
- 4:46Speaker 1: being what he is, and with Trevor's story, resurgent Bregman
- 4:49Speaker 1: doing what he's doing. All of that is good. It's
- 4:53Speaker 1: just with the Red Sox, my one question is the
- 4:56Speaker 1: starting pitching and the starting pitching both down the stretch
- 4:58Speaker 1: here obviously in the postseason. So that's the Yankees Red Sox.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It's wrapping up in the Bronx right now, and no
- 5:06Speaker 1: matter what happens on Sunday night, not a good outcome
- 5:10Speaker 1: for the New York Yankees. Over on the West Coast
- 5:14Speaker 1: Dodgers Padres series at Petco Park. The Padres win two
- 5:18Speaker 1: of three when the first two games of this series,
- 5:21Speaker 1: both games that they won pitched brilliantly, a great start
- 5:24Speaker 1: from Darvish on Friday Night and a great start from
- 5:27Speaker 1: Nestro Cordis Junior against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team
- 5:30Speaker 1: that haunted him in the World Series on Saturday. Padres
- 5:34Speaker 1: won both those first two games, allowing only one run.
- 5:37Speaker 1: The Dodgers offense finally woke up on Sunday, an eight
- 5:41Speaker 1: to two victory. They got some home runs from Freeman,
- 5:43Speaker 1: two from him, another from Otani. All Right, where are
- 5:47Speaker 1: we with this one? The two teams are tied for
- 5:49Speaker 1: first place in the division again, and it seems to
- 5:53Speaker 1: me that the Dodgers are not yet what the Dodgers
- 5:57Speaker 1: are going to be the bottom of their lineup for
- 6:00Speaker 1: a couple of weeks now has sort of resembled what
- 6:03Speaker 1: the Padres lineup at the bottom of the Padres lineup
- 6:06Speaker 1: looked like before the trade deadline, before they acquired Ryan
- 6:10Speaker 1: O'Hearn and Ramon Loriano and really deepen themselves Freddy for
- 6:14Speaker 1: me and as well, the Dodgers right now playing without
- 6:18Speaker 1: next monthy Kei k hernandez Haisan Kim and Tommy Edman.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Those guys are in various states of rehabilitation from injuries.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Key k is expected back first, he'll be this week,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and then the others as well. Once all of that happens,
- 6:33Speaker 1: then we'll see a more representative Dodgers lineup, one that
- 6:37Speaker 1: you could expect would be a much more potent version
- 6:40Speaker 1: of what we've seen over the last couple of weeks. Frankly,
- 6:43Speaker 1: I am surprised, even now looking back in retrospect at
- 6:48Speaker 1: how easily the Dodgers handled the Padres at home last week,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and with essentially the same cast of characters. This is
- 6:54Speaker 1: a lineup you might see in a spring training game. Honestly,
- 6:58Speaker 1: it's just full of hole at the bottom or players
- 7:01Speaker 1: that you would not necessarily expect to be seeing in
- 7:04Speaker 1: a pennant race for the Los Angeles Dodgers. I'm talking
- 7:06Speaker 1: about Buddy Kennedy and Alex Freeland to a certain amount.
- 7:11Speaker 1: To a point, I should say, Alex Freeland had a
- 7:14Speaker 1: great series, two home runs in one of each of
- 7:16Speaker 1: the first two games. But he's a young guy, and
- 7:19Speaker 1: they've been mixing in these guys. They have to keep
- 7:21Speaker 1: playing Confordo. All of these things are happening, and it's
- 7:25Speaker 1: not ideal. Once they get their guys back, okay, something else,
- 7:29Speaker 1: we'll see a little bit of a different team, and
- 7:32Speaker 1: we'll see them get deeper in the outfield, which is
- 7:34Speaker 1: where they have a huge problem right now. In ops
- 7:39Speaker 1: in left field they are something like twenty third, or
- 7:41Speaker 1: going into Sunday they were twenty third. Michael Confordo an
- 7:45Speaker 1: awful season for him. That's been a bad signing his
- 7:48Speaker 1: days are numbered. Once those injured guys come back, he
- 7:50Speaker 1: could be a DFA candidate without any question. So once
- 7:54Speaker 1: those players come back, you figure out the outfield. You
- 7:57Speaker 1: maybe keep te Oscar Hernandez in right but hopefully get
- 8:01Speaker 1: him playing better. You don't move Mookie back out there.
- 8:03Speaker 1: In my opinion, if you watch the Dodgers play, Mookie
- 8:06Speaker 1: Betts has been brilliant at shortstop, brilliant defensively, and he
- 8:10Speaker 1: ranks pretty highly in the metrics as well. So you
- 8:13Speaker 1: figure it out with Edmund and Tao and all the
- 8:17Speaker 1: different players that are in the mix. Andy pies kiy
- 8:19Speaker 1: Ky Hernanez Kim can play the outfield as well. That
- 8:23Speaker 1: to me is the way they have to go. Now.
- 8:25Speaker 1: The Padres here is a team that playing at home
- 8:29Speaker 1: is something else entirely. They're great at home, and they
- 8:32Speaker 1: should be and I'll talk more about this in the
- 8:34Speaker 1: inside Dish. They are a team that at home has
- 8:39Speaker 1: a certain energy about them because of the crowds that
- 8:42Speaker 1: they're drawing. And we saw it this weekend. They rallied
- 8:45Speaker 1: from what happened last weekend at Dodgers Stadium. Of course,
- 8:48Speaker 1: pitching was a huge part of it, but that's a
- 8:51Speaker 1: different team at home. Now with the Padres, the question still,
- 8:55Speaker 1: even with the additions of a Horne, a Hearne, Loriano
- 8:58Speaker 1: and Fermin is the offense. This is a team that
- 9:03Speaker 1: is sort of like the Blue Jays and Brewers in
- 9:05Speaker 1: that they make a ton of contact and don't strike
- 9:07Speaker 1: out a lot, but they don't slug like the Blue
- 9:11Speaker 1: Jays and Brewers. Even the Brewers. Padres are twenty fifth
- 9:15Speaker 1: or worth twenty fifth in slugging percentage entering Sunday. The
- 9:18Speaker 1: Blue Jays were sixth and the Brewers were fourteenth. These
- 9:21Speaker 1: are all high contact, low strikeout offenses, but the Padres,
- 9:25Speaker 1: for whatever reason, have not hit home runs and Fernando
- 9:28Speaker 1: Tatist Junior has been emblematic of that. He's had a
- 9:31Speaker 1: brilliant season. If you look at his strikeout rate and
- 9:33Speaker 1: walk rate, they are the best of his career. You
- 9:37Speaker 1: look at his defense, outstanding in right field, Goglove, his
- 9:40Speaker 1: base running brilliant. He just hasn't slugged the way he
- 9:43Speaker 1: normally has. And Ino Saras and Dennis Lynn wrote about
- 9:46Speaker 1: that in The Athletic last week. Why that might be happening.
- 9:50Speaker 1: He's kind of again emblematic of where they are. If
- 9:53Speaker 1: they get Tattis going again, I expect that that's going
- 9:57Speaker 1: to be a different offense. If they get him hitting
- 9:59Speaker 1: the ball more in the air than on the ground,
- 10:01Speaker 1: that would be a huge transformative thing for them. Can
- 10:04Speaker 1: it happen, Yes, it can happen. Now. They should too
- 10:08Speaker 1: get healthier. Jackson Merrill on the injured list right now.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Michael King also on the injured list. Jackson Merrill obviously
- 10:15Speaker 1: is a huge player for them. He's gonna come back.
- 10:17Speaker 1: They kind of debated putting him on the IL for
- 10:19Speaker 1: a couple of days there because they thought maybe he
- 10:22Speaker 1: could come back without going on the IL, but didn't happen.
- 10:26Speaker 1: They get Meryll. I'm sorry Michael King back, and they
- 10:29Speaker 1: get Jackson Merrill back, not Merrill King, then they'll be
- 10:33Speaker 1: in really good shape. So that's the Padres Dodgers. Exciting series,
- 10:36Speaker 1: no question at Petco. And finally, I want to touch
- 10:39Speaker 1: on the Mets and Phillies just a little bit. The
- 10:42Speaker 1: Mets have a little bit of a Yankee thing going
- 10:44Speaker 1: in that they're beating up lesser teams and we'll see
- 10:47Speaker 1: how they do against the better teams. They trail the
- 10:49Speaker 1: Phillies by seven games in the National League East seven games.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Now they have a series against the Phillies this week.
- 10:56Speaker 1: And the Phillies, yes, terrible loss of Zach Wheeler. Think
- 11:00Speaker 1: he's okay. He had the TOS surgery. He's gonna miss
- 11:04Speaker 1: obviously the rest of the season, but he'll be back
- 11:06Speaker 1: next year. But even without Wheeler, their rotation could be
- 11:10Speaker 1: pretty good. I've said this before and I'll say it again.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Nola good start on Saturday, Suarez brilliant on Sunday. They've
- 11:17Speaker 1: got the making still of a good rotation. The Mets
- 11:20Speaker 1: aren't catching them. The question really is how good the
- 11:23Speaker 1: Phillies can be. And the question also is can the
- 11:26Speaker 1: Mets hold off the Reds. Yes, the Cincinnati Reds for
- 11:30Speaker 1: that third wildcard spot. The deficit is a game and
- 11:33Speaker 1: a half. We could see the Mets next pitching prospect,
- 11:37Speaker 1: Jonah Tong pretty soon. We've seen Nolan McClain. That's pretty good.
- 11:41Speaker 1: But if we are going to believe in the Mets,
- 11:44Speaker 1: we're gonna need to see better starting pitching out of them,
- 11:46Speaker 1: beyond David Peterson, beyond McClain, and basically just a better
- 11:53Speaker 1: showing than we've seen in the last couple of weeks.
- 11:55Speaker 1: There's no question about that. Mantas likely headed for Tommy
- 11:58Speaker 1: john Mania has not been the same. Senga is a
- 12:02Speaker 1: bit of a wild card. It has not worked out
- 12:04Speaker 1: the way we all thought it would when they look
- 12:06Speaker 1: so good early in the season. So that was a
- 12:09Speaker 1: quick summary of all three of those races. We're gonna
- 12:12Speaker 1: have more in the inside dish on Padres, Dodgers and
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yankees Red Sox coming up after this.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Ft FAM.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Welcome to the World's most Comfortable Swimwear. For a moment,
- 12:23Speaker 3: we are talking about Fair Harbor. We actually have some
- 12:27Speaker 3: show and tell today. This is the liner that you're
- 12:30Speaker 3: working with inside of the shorts and the bathing suits.
- 12:35Speaker 4: You know what the best part is about this Scott
- 12:37Speaker 4: what they have a lot of different options because these
- 12:39Speaker 4: are clearly yours, because I would never order this pattern.
- 12:41Speaker 2: But that is so mazing. That is so many these
- 12:44Speaker 2: are so you.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Mine are a little bit more plain than this, yes,
- 12:47Speaker 4: but they are super comfortable. The liner. I love liner shorts.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Some people don't, but these liners are better than most
- 12:53Speaker 4: that I've had on, if not all of them.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Yeah, this is the best liner out there.
- 12:56Speaker 1: No mash.
- 12:57Speaker 3: All the above is perfect exactly. It's really good. You
- 13:00Speaker 3: got to give it a shot. Also, fun random fact,
- 13:03Speaker 3: you got a new shirt. It smells really good. So
- 13:06Speaker 3: head to Fairharbor Clothing dot com slash foul and use
- 13:08Speaker 3: code foul for twenty percent off your first purchase. Once again,
- 13:11Speaker 3: Fair Harbor h A R B O R Clothing dot
- 13:14Speaker 3: com backslash fou l for twenty percent off your first
- 13:17Speaker 3: purchase and use that promo code foul so they know
- 13:19Speaker 3: ftcent you.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Well. We're well well well.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Time now for the inside dish, the part of the
- 13:30Speaker 1: program where I go inside a story I've written, maybe
- 13:33Speaker 1: a trend in the game. This week, I'm gonna do
- 13:35Speaker 1: something entirely different because of what I just did in
- 13:39Speaker 1: my job. Over the last few days, I had the privilege,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and yes I mean the privilege of doing games for
- 13:44Speaker 1: Fox in both the Yankees Red Sox series and the
- 13:48Speaker 1: Padres Dodgers series. We had on the Fox Network Thursday
- 13:52Speaker 1: night the first game of the Yankees Red Sox series,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and then on FS one Saturday, we had the second
- 13:59Speaker 1: game of the Dodger Padre series. Now, this is entailed
- 14:02Speaker 1: a little bit of travel, of course, obviously, but at
- 14:05Speaker 1: the same time, I was again privileged to get a
- 14:08Speaker 1: taste of both these rivalries, and I want to talk
- 14:10Speaker 1: about which is the better one right now. Frankly, I
- 14:14Speaker 1: don't even see it as close. Give me Dodgers Padres
- 14:18Speaker 1: right now over Yankees Red Sox, and I'll give you
- 14:20Speaker 1: a whole host of reasons why. Number one being the
- 14:24Speaker 1: Dodgers and Padres are better teams. And yes, the Red
- 14:28Speaker 1: Sox are coming and they've got some exciting young players.
- 14:30Speaker 1: The Yankees of course have Aaron Judge, but the Dodgers
- 14:33Speaker 1: and Padres right now are two of the elite teams
- 14:35Speaker 1: in the game. And when a rivalry is at its best,
- 14:39Speaker 1: it is when two powerhouse clubs are squaring off and
- 14:43Speaker 1: doing it in the same division, doing it in the
- 14:45Speaker 1: same geographic region, as these rivalries can both be when
- 14:49Speaker 1: they are at their peaks. Now. I talked to Xander
- 14:52Speaker 1: Bogart's about this on Friday because I thought he was
- 14:56Speaker 1: a really good guy to give his perspective on which
- 14:59Speaker 1: is the better rivalry. He was a member of the
- 15:01Speaker 1: Red Sox for ten years, he's been with the Padres
- 15:03Speaker 1: for the last few so he's got a real sense
- 15:06Speaker 1: of what these two different rivalries are. And what Xander
- 15:10Speaker 1: said was quite obviously, Hey, Red Sox Yankees, that's more historic,
- 15:14Speaker 1: there's no question about that. Goes back, I don't know,
- 15:17Speaker 1: one hundred years plus. However, Padres Dodgers in more recent times,
- 15:22Speaker 1: in Bogart's opinion and mine too, is the better rivalry
- 15:26Speaker 1: simply because there are more established stars on both sides.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Now you see it a little bit in Yankees Red
- 15:33Speaker 1: Sox of course, with Judge and Stanton on the Yankee side,
- 15:36Speaker 1: your Cole hurt right now, and the Red Sox have Gregman.
- 15:39Speaker 1: They have some emerging young players as well. Garrett Crochet
- 15:42Speaker 1: certainly is a star. But in Dodgers, Padres, what are
- 15:46Speaker 1: we seeing. We're seeing all the MVPs with the Dodgers,
- 15:48Speaker 1: Otani and Freeman and Betts. We're seeing Machado and Tatis
- 15:53Speaker 1: and Bogarts and Jackson Merrill for the Padres. And that,
- 15:57Speaker 1: in Bogart's view, is what theinguish is this rivalry and
- 16:01Speaker 1: what makes him think looking back at what Red Sox
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yankees was in the two thousands, remember that Alex Rodriguez
- 16:10Speaker 1: and Derek Juter on one side, David Ortiz and Manny
- 16:12Speaker 1: Ramirez on the other. That is what makes this so
- 16:17Speaker 1: special when you have stars of that magnitude, and let's
- 16:19Speaker 1: face it, when you have as well, a little animosity
- 16:23Speaker 1: between the teams. The Dodgers and Padres met in the
- 16:26Speaker 1: twenty twenty two DS won by the Padres and the
- 16:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty four DS won by the Dodgers. They have
- 16:33Speaker 1: had some teated moments in these games, even this year.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And remember that squabble between Mike Schilt and Dave Roberts.
- 16:40Speaker 1: So there's a whole lot going on with that particular rivalry.
- 16:43Speaker 1: And Peco Park and Dodgers Stadium and Yankee Stadium and
- 16:47Speaker 1: Fenway Park, these are all great venues, among the best
- 16:51Speaker 1: venues in the sport, certainly with Yankees, Red Sox. The
- 16:55Speaker 1: fan animosity is still there and will always be there
- 16:59Speaker 1: no matter where the teams are in the standings. Dodgers Padres,
- 17:03Speaker 1: phantom animosity is right there with them. You can look
- 17:06Speaker 1: on X, you can go to the games, you can
- 17:09Speaker 1: judge it however you want. Those two fan bases don't
- 17:12Speaker 1: like each other, just like the Yankees and Red Sox
- 17:15Speaker 1: fan bases don't like each other. So we have something
- 17:18Speaker 1: special on the West coast as well as we do
- 17:21Speaker 1: on the East coast. And as I mentioned in the
- 17:23Speaker 1: first segment, Pecko Park is part of this. The Padres
- 17:27Speaker 1: have sold out fifty eight of their sixty four home
- 17:30Speaker 1: games this year. They are on pace to top three
- 17:33Speaker 1: point four million in attendance. That's going to set another
- 17:36Speaker 1: franchise record, kind of show you see the value of
- 17:39Speaker 1: building a really exciting, fun team, a winning team, what
- 17:42Speaker 1: it can do to your business attention every other team
- 17:46Speaker 1: in the major leagues, So that aspect of it has
- 17:49Speaker 1: been the one huge difference in Dodgers Padres in recent years.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Peco Park is alive. It is electric when they do
- 17:57Speaker 1: all the small things in the eighth inning, and everybody's singing,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and it's one of the cooler moments, and it's a
- 18:02Speaker 1: little edgier than Sweet Caroline, Okay. And on Friday night,
- 18:06Speaker 1: after the Padres beat the Dodgers for the first win
- 18:10Speaker 1: of this series, the fans were streaming out of the park.
- 18:13Speaker 1: They were going down the rams and they were still
- 18:15Speaker 1: chanting Beat La and they were still chanting let's go Padres.
- 18:19Speaker 1: And it reminded me so much of Game three of
- 18:23Speaker 1: the two thousand and four ALCS. I'm sorry, Game four
- 18:26Speaker 1: of the two thousand and four ALCS, when the Red
- 18:29Speaker 1: Sox finally got their first victory and I'm walking down
- 18:32Speaker 1: from the press box to the clubhouse because that's how
- 18:34Speaker 1: it is at Fenway, either walk or wait for this
- 18:37Speaker 1: ninety year old elevator. And the fans, even down three
- 18:41Speaker 1: to one at that point, they had just gotten their
- 18:43Speaker 1: first win. They were fired up. They were chanting, they
- 18:45Speaker 1: were singing, they were yelling not nice things about the Yankees,
- 18:49Speaker 1: as they do. And that's the kind of electricity both
- 18:53Speaker 1: of these rivalries bring. But again, when we're talking right
- 18:57Speaker 1: now about where these suckers stand, Dodgers Padres versus Yankees,
- 19:02Speaker 1: Red Sox not even close. Dodgers Padres is the New
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yankees red sox and until proven otherwise. That's how it stands.
- 19:10Speaker 1: We'll be back right after this with grilling can Kratz.

- 20:11Speaker 2: Get after it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: All right. Time now for Grilling Ken, the part of
- 20:20Speaker 1: the program where I answer your questions. Let's get right
- 20:23Speaker 1: to them. The first one comes from Scott Braun, none
- 20:27Speaker 1: other than the host of Foul Territory. He asks thoughts
- 20:30Speaker 1: on the Basio extension, and I felt like the Bautista
- 20:33Speaker 1: injury didn't get enough play. Orioles lost one of the
- 20:36Speaker 1: best relievers in baseball for most, if not all, of
- 20:39Speaker 1: next season. Scott is right about that. The loss of
- 20:42Speaker 1: Felix Bautista for the Oriols is huge, and I believe
- 20:45Speaker 1: we had Andy Costka on Foul Territory earlier this week
- 20:48Speaker 1: and he mentioned how the Oriols are going to need
- 20:51Speaker 1: to find multiple relievers and multiple starters this offseason, and
- 20:54Speaker 1: it's not going to be easy to do. Certainly they
- 20:57Speaker 1: are willing to spend money. We've seen that. We saw
- 20:59Speaker 1: it last offseas, and we saw it with the basio extension,
- 21:02Speaker 1: though I still contend that any club, all thirty of them,
- 21:06Speaker 1: would do that extension in a heartbeat. It's club friendly,
- 21:09Speaker 1: as these things often are, so it was encouraging to
- 21:13Speaker 1: see the Orioles finally get one done. Michaelias had not
- 21:16Speaker 1: given out an extension to a young player in his
- 21:19Speaker 1: tenure before the Besao deal. But at the same time,
- 21:22Speaker 1: you're gonna have difficulties with Gunner Henderson and Jackson Holliday.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Both are represented by Scott Boris. Both are more inclined,
- 21:30Speaker 1: perhaps to go to free agency than other players would,
- 21:33Speaker 1: because Scott prefers his guys to establish their values on
- 21:36Speaker 1: the open market. Doesn't always happen that way, but generally speaking,
- 21:40Speaker 1: that is what Boris' clients do. Adley Rushman, I'm not
- 21:44Speaker 1: so sure you want to give him an extension at
- 21:46Speaker 1: this point. You want to see more. And then you
- 21:48Speaker 1: have Westburg and Kowser and some of the other guys.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Perhaps they can lock some of them up, but they're
- 21:53Speaker 1: not the star caliber players. I don't think that those
- 21:56Speaker 1: others are so encouraging for the Oriols. No doubt they
- 22:00Speaker 1: still have a lot of work to do. You can
- 22:02Speaker 1: watch them now and see the position player lineup they're
- 22:05Speaker 1: putting on the field. It's encouraging. It's better Bisio. I
- 22:09Speaker 1: don't know if he's going to last behind the plane.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I'm not hearing good things from scouts on what they're
- 22:13Speaker 1: seeing from him at catcher, but at the very least
- 22:16Speaker 1: first base DH slugger, you can do a lot worse.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So good news for the Ools there. We'll see how
- 22:22Speaker 1: it plays out in twenty six because this will be
- 22:25Speaker 1: a major test for general manager michae Elias and where
- 22:28Speaker 1: they are going forward. All right, next question, This one
- 22:32Speaker 1: comes from Chris, who asked, do you think Max Munsey
- 22:34Speaker 1: is going to come back in time to make an
- 22:36Speaker 1: impact on the Dodgers offense that definitely needs his presence. Chris,
- 22:40Speaker 1: great point, and yes, I do expect Munsey to come back.
- 22:43Speaker 1: He is getting closer to a rehabilitation assignment, and you're
- 22:47Speaker 1: absolutely right. They need him. They especially need him against
- 22:51Speaker 1: right handed pitching. Their lineup is a little thin against
- 22:54Speaker 1: right handers and they kind of need him to thicken
- 22:57Speaker 1: that lineup. Not kind of, they do need him to
- 22:59Speaker 1: do that. They are a top heavy team even at
- 23:03Speaker 1: their best with Freddie and Otani and Bets. Munsey gives
- 23:08Speaker 1: them more. Will Smith, who is slumping in August, he too,
- 23:11Speaker 1: is part of that equation. But I do expect Munsey back,
- 23:15Speaker 1: and I do expect him to play a big role,
- 23:17Speaker 1: and that's one reason why I said in the first segment,
- 23:20Speaker 1: we're not really seeing the Dodgers as we're going to
- 23:23Speaker 1: see them just yet. Their bullpen is finally hole again
- 23:26Speaker 1: with Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates or reasonably Hole Kopek
- 23:29Speaker 1: is coming back as well. But they need those position
- 23:32Speaker 1: players back. They needed to thick in their lineup, get
- 23:35Speaker 1: the outfield straightened out, and all of that. All right,
- 23:39Speaker 1: next question, Let's see what this one is actually. Oh there,
- 23:44Speaker 1: it is from foul Territory. Foul Territory poses the question,
- 23:47Speaker 1: and this is a good one. Are Kyle Tucker and
- 23:50Speaker 1: the Cubs back? Now, I'll give you one caveat The
- 23:54Speaker 1: Cubs played the Angels over the weekend in Anaheim, and
- 23:58Speaker 1: while they had a terrific series, it's effectively a home
- 24:01Speaker 1: series for them Wrigley West, the way Anaheim is playing
- 24:06Speaker 1: out Angels Stadium, whatever you want to call it. There
- 24:08Speaker 1: weren't a lot of people there, and the people that
- 24:10Speaker 1: were there were Cubs fans, and the Cubs were very
- 24:13Speaker 1: comfortable at home, and the fans are very comfortable making
- 24:16Speaker 1: themselves at home flying the w at the end of
- 24:19Speaker 1: Sunday's game, in particular, that's said we did see Kyle
- 24:23Speaker 1: Tucker come to life in this series, and the deficit
- 24:25Speaker 1: in the NL Central right now is down to five games.
- 24:29Speaker 1: The Brewers have lost five of their last seven. The
- 24:33Speaker 1: Brewers cannot play any better, so I expect this to
- 24:38Speaker 1: tighten a little bit. The two teams are done with
- 24:39Speaker 1: each other for the season, but it could get interesting
- 24:42Speaker 1: down the stretch, especially if the Brewers start to feel
- 24:44Speaker 1: it a little bit. I don't know that they will.
- 24:46Speaker 1: They're not necessarily a team that is like that, but
- 24:49Speaker 1: they're young and we'll see if they can hold up.
- 24:52Speaker 1: So with all that, I bid you adio. I want
- 24:55Speaker 1: to encourage you guys to have a great week, of course,
- 24:58Speaker 1: and also Thursday, we'll be back with our live show,
