- 0:26Speaker 1: new member of our team this football season, Ross Jackson
- 0:28Speaker 1: from Louisiana Sports dot Net.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Hopping on with us because although.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It's the first day of Super Bowl Week of the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Saints just had to force themselves into the news cycle.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Thanks for jobbing on. How are you. I'm doing great, man,
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm doing great. Thanks for having me good.
- 0:43Speaker 1: First of all, there was a reporter earlier today from
- 0:46Speaker 1: Schefter that it looks like, barring any setbacks, Kellen Moore
- 0:49Speaker 1: will be the guy. I don't think that's a giant surprise.
- 0:54Speaker 1: My surprise is we didn't get that report late last
- 0:56Speaker 1: week because that's what happened with Koubiak last year.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's really interesting and well, I will say this.
- 1:02Speaker 3: You know what, if you've been reading at Louisiana Sports
- 1:04Speaker 3: that you're just saying, I'm just saying, I'm just saying,
- 1:06Speaker 3: but here's.
- 1:06Speaker 2: The thing on. But here's the thing.
- 1:09Speaker 3: You'll notice that a lot of the people that were
- 1:11Speaker 3: reporting around the Kellen Moore naturally, they were reporting around
- 1:15Speaker 3: the Kellen Moore News last week last week were all
- 1:18Speaker 3: NFL media people, right, Tom.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Pilisaro, Diana Orsini.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, right, So it's all but but a lot
- 1:24Speaker 3: of the people that were reporting like, hey, they're having
- 1:26Speaker 3: the third meeting were literally people employed by the NFL
- 1:29Speaker 3: as a part of their media, so they really have
- 1:31Speaker 3: to walk the line of the NFL rules.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:34Speaker 3: When you get outside of that, then you start to
- 1:37Speaker 3: see like a little bit more kind of preemptive reporting,
- 1:39Speaker 3: which is what you saw from Adam chefter day. You
- 1:41Speaker 3: said what we've been saying, which is that, yeah, this
- 1:43Speaker 3: is most likely going to be the higher barring a setback. Now,
- 1:47Speaker 3: did we did we find the setback?
- 1:48Speaker 2: That part? We don't know?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Okay, excellent transition. That's why you're really good at what
- 1:53Speaker 1: you do. So let's talk about that potential setback. The
- 1:57Speaker 1: give me all right, So for the listener, the viewer
- 2:00Speaker 1: who knows nothing about the maybe just saw the headline
- 2:03Speaker 1: church scandal cover up thing, give me the super like explain.
- 2:10Speaker 2: It to a third grader, what's happened here?
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah, so there's a church in New Orleans that did
- 2:14Speaker 3: some very very bad things, or that you have members
- 2:17Speaker 3: of clergy that were a partisan, very very bad things,
- 2:19Speaker 3: and apparently the New Orleans Saints were a part of,
- 2:23Speaker 3: you know, allegedly kind of guiding a little bit of
- 2:26Speaker 3: the language and spin around it. And and now there's
- 2:29Speaker 3: further accusations that maybe they were a little bit more
- 2:31Speaker 3: involved with all of the I grew from third grade
- 2:34Speaker 3: a little bit there.
- 2:35Speaker 1: No, that's fine, you used accusations, but whenever, I don't
- 2:39Speaker 1: know if a third grader knows that word.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Maybe I knew that word. I probably did too.
- 2:42Speaker 1: But then you and I are kind of, yeah, out
- 2:45Speaker 1: in trouble. But you try to give me to do
- 2:46Speaker 1: long division right now, I'm screwed done. Okay, But you
- 2:49Speaker 1: so you said the New Orleans Saints. So what's more important,
- 2:53Speaker 1: I think than just saying the Saints. Are these specific
- 2:55Speaker 1: names of those alleged to have been involved.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so that would be executives that are amongst
- 3:01Speaker 3: those named where owner Gail Benson, teen spokesperson Greg Bensil,
- 3:05Speaker 3: and then team president Dennis Lasha. So these are you know,
- 3:08Speaker 3: really these are people that are kind of away from
- 3:10Speaker 3: the football operations part. So it shouldn't impact like the
- 3:13Speaker 3: fan and the viewer in that way in terms of
- 3:15Speaker 3: what happens on the field. But it is a top
- 3:18Speaker 3: down type situation to where there are people that are
- 3:21Speaker 3: allegedly involved in all of this that are the decision.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Makers and court decision makers of what eventually trickles.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Down to what you say, man, So like here's my
- 3:28Speaker 1: big this is my big picture question. I don't know
- 3:31Speaker 1: the answer to this. I don't think you have the
- 3:32Speaker 1: answer to this either. It's just for food for thought.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I mean we're talking about some pretty heavy stuff. Yeah, again, allegations.
- 3:42Speaker 1: There are emails, so there's documentation here. Now it's not
- 3:45Speaker 1: like someone it's just he said, she said, like there is.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Two hundred and seventy six emails releaked that that does
- 3:50Speaker 3: a lot create all of this.
- 3:51Speaker 2: That's a lot. Is there a.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Is there a reality in which something like what we
- 4:00Speaker 1: saw with Donald Sterling with the Clippers or Dan Snyder
- 4:05Speaker 1: with the Commander's Washington football team, where you're talking about
- 4:08Speaker 1: a conduct detrimental type policy where the league says we're
- 4:13Speaker 1: forcing you out. Yeah, So what that would requires for
- 4:15Speaker 1: the league to conduct some type of independent investigation as
- 4:19Speaker 1: the NFL into the situation. Roger Goodell was actually just
- 4:22Speaker 1: speaking the Commission of the NFL here, I think upstairs,
- 4:25Speaker 1: like literally just above where we are, and he was
- 4:27Speaker 1: asked about this, and one of the things that he
- 4:28Speaker 1: said was, look, this is something that the FBI is
- 4:30Speaker 1: involved in that he believed some local law enforcement are
- 4:33Speaker 1: involved in, and so he's just going to kind of
- 4:34Speaker 1: leave it to that, and kind of mentioned that his
- 4:36Speaker 1: understanding is that the Saints were serving a supporting role
- 4:39Speaker 1: in order to create greater transparency from the Archdiocese of
- 4:43Speaker 1: New Orleans.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Which is the.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Organization that's a whole part of this and everything. So
- 4:48Speaker 3: he did not reference any kind of interest in or
- 4:54Speaker 3: forecast any kind of investigation from the NFL, and even
- 4:58Speaker 3: went so far really as to kind of have Gail
- 5:01Speaker 3: Binson and the others that were named in this, they're
- 5:04Speaker 3: back in the midst of all of it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: In terms of his supportive language of them.
- 5:08Speaker 3: So as of right now, I wouldn't expect anything to
- 5:11Speaker 3: come of that. But this is also typical of the
- 5:14Speaker 3: NFL when there are ongoing investigations that are happening, that
- 5:17Speaker 3: they don't get involved until after the outgoing the ongoing
- 5:21Speaker 3: investigations have concluded. That way, they don't potentially sway something
- 5:25Speaker 3: outside of of their organization.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Obviously, that's that's the way the show.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I mean there it should go that way, right, and
- 5:31Speaker 1: there's a presumption of innocence until guilt has proven the
- 5:34Speaker 1: burn and proof falls and the accused or so we'll
- 5:36Speaker 1: see what it not to suggest they did anything illegal.
- 5:38Speaker 3: No, no, But the big part of it is that
- 5:40Speaker 3: if there is something here that ends up, you know,
- 5:43Speaker 3: popping off then or or something else is uncovered or whatever,
- 5:46Speaker 3: the NFL, if they start an investigation now they're behind
- 5:49Speaker 3: on that. The other side of it is that if
- 5:50Speaker 3: they see that and they say, you know what, that
- 5:51Speaker 3: is conduct detrimental in terms of what we look at,
- 5:53Speaker 3: then that could potentially influence anything that would potentially go
- 5:56Speaker 3: to civil cases court anything like that, and they don't
- 5:58Speaker 3: want to They don't want that to happen.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Yeah, man, that's the story. Which has been going on
- 6:05Speaker 1: really for five years now, right when the initial accusations
- 6:08Speaker 1: were in twenty nineteen. So I don't think this is
- 6:11Speaker 1: going away, but it was for that news drop on
- 6:13Speaker 1: the morning of week of day one of Super Bowl
- 6:16Speaker 1: Week in New Orleans was u something. We'll continue to
- 6:19Speaker 1: follow that story now as I understand it, Kellen Moore
- 6:22Speaker 1: is about to speak to the media.
- 6:23Speaker 2: That's correct.
- 6:24Speaker 3: So Kellen Moore and both both teams really are about
- 6:27Speaker 3: to be made available over at the over at the
- 6:29Speaker 3: Caesar Superdome as a part of the opening night. So
- 6:31Speaker 3: hopefully we'll be able to get some time with Kellen
- 6:33Speaker 3: Moore and be able to kind of get some questions
- 6:35Speaker 3: in about his interviews and you know, things ongoing with
- 6:38Speaker 3: the New Orleans Saints. He'll probably be very careful about
- 6:40Speaker 3: how he answers those things, of course, but it will
- 6:42Speaker 3: be interesting to.
- 6:43Speaker 2: See if we can get a little bit of his
- 6:44Speaker 2: eigeh on it. Can he answer it? He can answer
- 6:46Speaker 2: and say what he has done already.
- 6:48Speaker 3: What he would have to be careful of, and what
- 6:50Speaker 3: I imagine that he would be careful of is to not
- 6:52Speaker 3: tip off or say anything to his team that would
- 6:55Speaker 3: have them feel like his focus is on that job
- 6:57Speaker 3: and not them in the super Bowl. So it's really
- 7:00Speaker 3: just kind of like making sure that you remain present
- 7:03Speaker 3: for your team more than anything else. I don't think
- 7:05Speaker 3: there was anything he could say that would get them
- 7:06Speaker 3: in trouble unless they were like, yeah, Mickey and I
- 7:07Speaker 3: were on the phone last night, Like then that would
- 7:09Speaker 3: get them in trouble, certainly. But Mickey Loomis and the
- 7:13Speaker 3: and the New Orleans Saints are very much playing this
- 7:15Speaker 3: if I can borrow from Adam Schefter by the book,
- 7:17Speaker 3: as he said, they're gonna do everything they can to
- 7:19Speaker 3: make sure that there is no uh sort of confusion
- 7:23Speaker 3: or concern about this potentially being what would be considered
- 7:27Speaker 3: a tampering situation. Yeah, especially with the Eagles practicing at
- 7:31Speaker 3: the Saints facility this week.
- 7:32Speaker 2: So that is.
- 7:34Speaker 3: That's exactly. This is what happened to the Arizona Cardinals.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Happened the Eagles. Yeah, the same thing. The Eagles were
- 7:40Speaker 3: practicing at the Cardinals facility getting ready for the Super
- 7:43Speaker 3: Bowl there in Phoenix a couple of years ago, and
- 7:44Speaker 3: then Jonathan Jonathan Ganna goes over and takes the job,
- 7:48Speaker 3: and then all of a sudden they were like, wait
- 7:50Speaker 3: a minute, Yeah, weren't supposed to talk, you know. So
- 7:52Speaker 3: the States are like, look, bro, we're not talking. They're
- 7:54Speaker 3: over there like we in the house, but we don't
- 7:56Speaker 3: talk to him.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they and they ended up the Eagles and Cardinals
- 7:59Speaker 1: ended up just to pick swap. I mean, it was
- 8:01Speaker 1: a it was a relatively benign thing. It was what
- 8:04Speaker 1: was happening. But again, as you said, by the book,
- 8:06Speaker 1: by the letter of the law, how it all.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Has to go.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see what Kellen Moore might say
- 8:12Speaker 1: when he meets with reporters here or throughout the week.
- 8:14Speaker 1: How do you feel? And by the way, I guess
- 8:17Speaker 1: it's noteworthy. There was more news about assistants taking other jobs.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Correct Vin today. Yeah. Yeah.
- 8:22Speaker 3: So now the one that we had already expected, which
- 8:25Speaker 3: was quarterbacks coach for the new Orlin Saints, Andrew Gnoco.
- 8:28Speaker 3: He's going to be following Clint Kubiak, the offensive coordinator
- 8:30Speaker 3: who's headed over to Seattle along with them. Offensive line
- 8:33Speaker 3: coach John Benton also traveling over to Seattle. And now,
- 8:37Speaker 3: so the other offensive coaching staff member that we're watching
- 8:39Speaker 3: in the midst of all this is Derek Foster, who
- 8:41Speaker 3: they brought in last year from the Los Angeles Chargers
- 8:43Speaker 3: as a running back coach. He was given the opportunity
- 8:45Speaker 3: to go and interview with the Dallas Cowboys, did interview.
- 8:47Speaker 3: We'll see if he ends up potentially leaving as well.
- 8:50Speaker 3: So those are kind of the things that we kind
- 8:52Speaker 3: of expect when you see a new head coach come
- 8:55Speaker 3: into where some of these assistants end up heading out
- 8:57Speaker 3: because there's no guarantee for them here.
- 8:58Speaker 2: So we'll see, you know, if there's any other exodus
- 9:00Speaker 2: that happens. So that was gonna be my follow up.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Ross Jackson's our guest.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Does all of this suggest that that like Royal wave
- 9:09Speaker 1: to the assistance leaving suggests that they know Darren Rizzy's
- 9:14Speaker 1: not getting the job or they're just not leaving it
- 9:17Speaker 1: to chance.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I think they're just not leaving the chance.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I mean, you know, look, this is this was kind
- 9:21Speaker 3: of the conversation from the very beginning when we did
- 9:23Speaker 3: our end of year press conference with Mickey Loomis, the
- 9:25Speaker 3: general manager. He said that basically the way that he
- 9:28Speaker 3: looks at it is that everybody's employed. But if you
- 9:30Speaker 3: start getting interviews and start getting the opportunity to go and
- 9:32Speaker 3: talk to other people. Just come and talk to me,
- 9:33Speaker 3: let me know, and then handle it kind of on
- 9:34Speaker 3: a case by case basis. So I imagine that this actually
- 9:37Speaker 3: signifies more than anything else, or indicates more than anything else,
- 9:40Speaker 3: is that there's going to be change, right and that
- 9:41Speaker 3: there was already expected to be changed, whether that was
- 9:43Speaker 3: Darren Rizzy, whether it's it's Kellen Moore, whether it was
- 9:45Speaker 3: going to be Mike McCarthy or whatever. It kind of
- 9:47Speaker 3: shows you that they looked at this coaching staff and
- 9:50Speaker 3: they looked at sort of this opportunity here with a
- 9:52Speaker 3: new head coach coming in to say, you know what,
- 9:54Speaker 3: here's a chance to change everything. Change a lot of stuff,
- 9:56Speaker 3: get new schemes, get new systems in and be able
- 9:58Speaker 3: to kind of push forward to a new era that's
- 10:00Speaker 3: not connected to the previous era.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But they really traded Luca for street clothes. They really
- 10:05Speaker 2: did trade Luca for street clothes.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And I just want to make sure that I mention
- 10:07Speaker 3: out loud for everybody in case you haven't heard, that
- 10:10Speaker 3: Anthony Davis was traded away from Los Angeles before you
- 10:12Speaker 3: thank New Orleans. So I just want to make sure
- 10:15Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know why I feel compelled
- 10:17Speaker 3: to say that, but I do.
- 10:18Speaker 2: It'll never happen. We'll we'll just never ever see it happen.
- 10:21Speaker 2: It's great. I don't want the bit to die.
- 10:23Speaker 1: No, no, it won't die. That's going to live, and
- 10:26Speaker 1: he's going to make sure that it lives for a
- 10:28Speaker 1: long long time.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 10:29Speaker 1: You've got to go get on a shuttle over to
- 10:30Speaker 1: the Dome and go talk to Kellen Moore. So make
- 10:32Speaker 1: sure you ask him good questions and really pry, you like,
- 10:35Speaker 1: prod him to make sure that he gets gets some
- 10:37Speaker 1: good sub exclusively for Louisiana, the Sports that It and
- 10:40Speaker 1: the Locked On Saints podcasts well, So if you're not
- 10:42Speaker 1: subscribed to Locked On Saints, shame on you.
- 10:44Speaker 2: All right, Ross, thank you, man, appreciate this man good Okay,
