- 1:27Speaker 1: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 1:32Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium. So it's turned the page day, and
- 1:36Speaker 1: I turned the page and I have a nightmare because
- 1:41Speaker 1: it's the Buffalo Bills. That used to be a game
- 1:44Speaker 1: where I would look forward to because it was gonna
- 1:46Speaker 1: be a win. But over the last four.
- 1:48Speaker 5: Years or so, yeah, I think the turntables of.
- 1:50Speaker 6: Tables have turned seven and one the.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Last time we had a chance to beat them, Cam
- 1:54Speaker 1: Newton fumbled, right, yeah, that's true.
- 1:57Speaker 6: The win game, O, the win game game.
- 2:00Speaker 1: Get about one right to the wind game?
- 2:01Speaker 6: They actually won that one.
- 2:03Speaker 4: They won that one?
- 2:04Speaker 1: We did we win that one?
- 2:06Speaker 4: That's the one and the one in seven.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but this is going to be a tough one.
- 2:10Speaker 5: How did Cam almost do that?
- 2:12Speaker 8: I can have Dresser saying like like, I keep like, wow,
- 2:14Speaker 8: that game was close, and then I remember what the
- 2:15Speaker 8: heck happened.
- 2:16Speaker 4: If I'm not mistaken, that was the first game out
- 2:19Speaker 4: of the seven and Buffalo still had that thing like
- 2:22Speaker 4: at some point the Jets are going to beat the
- 2:23Speaker 4: Patriots too, maybe it'll be the last game this year.
- 2:27Speaker 4: But like you don't think that that had anything to
- 2:29Speaker 4: do with the Patriots beating the Jets in Week three,
- 2:31Speaker 4: like the fact that they constant Riots. Yeah, and I
- 2:34Speaker 4: think that was the first one out of these seven
- 2:36Speaker 4: games that Evan just talked about. Was the Cam Newton
- 2:38Speaker 4: fumble game?
- 2:39Speaker 8: Yeah, what was the one that Jonathan Jones like had
- 2:41Speaker 8: had to head contact with him and did did Josh
- 2:43Speaker 8: Allen go out? Was that like nineteen I mean, I
- 2:45Speaker 8: know I was here, but I I don't remember it
- 2:47Speaker 8: was in oh Sea.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I remember that being Yeah, it was in Buffalo. That's
- 2:52Speaker 4: a game that buffleto was probably going to win. If
- 2:54Speaker 4: that didn't happen, I think Matt Barkley had to come in.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you might need something like that to happen there.
- 2:59Speaker 6: Well, it shouldn't do shoulder help. He does have a
- 3:02Speaker 6: shoulder in dream.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's true.
- 3:04Speaker 6: Superman is hurt.
- 3:06Speaker 4: He not run as much this year, No twenty two carries.
- 3:09Speaker 6: Yeah, they've been trying to to to manage him. I'm
- 3:12Speaker 6: disappointed that Tamara is not here though, because like I
- 3:16Speaker 6: would allow her to tell the story of my love
- 3:18Speaker 6: affair with Josh Allen now, and she's not here to
- 3:21Speaker 6: tell the whole story. So I I just I don't
- 3:24Speaker 6: know if it's going to land the same.
- 3:26Speaker 4: But she's in La.
- 3:28Speaker 5: She's shooting a commercial. I'm sorry, very famous.
- 3:31Speaker 4: What does she do it?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah, shooting a commercial. Yeah, well, he can't give her
- 3:34Speaker 1: it's not for us, no, no, not for nothing to do.
- 3:36Speaker 5: With side hustle, side hustle, little side fun. She's in
- 3:40Speaker 5: La live.
- 3:41Speaker 4: In the Dream during the season.
- 3:45Speaker 1: All right, so we got we got the bills to
- 3:47Speaker 1: talk about you know, how, you know, how might the
- 3:50Speaker 1: Patriots pull this off? It's you know, I think I
- 3:54Speaker 1: heard it's like, uh nine and a half Underdog Home
- 3:57Speaker 1: Dog right now, eight and a half.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I mean, it's just it's hard.
- 4:01Speaker 8: I mean, haven't laid out everything of how they've done recently,
- 4:04Speaker 8: but it's just it's hard to make a case to
- 4:05Speaker 8: yourself and you know, legitimately talk yourself into how the
- 4:09Speaker 8: Patriots could pull it off unless there's you know, something
- 4:12Speaker 8: miraculous happens, whether it's the weather or a Josh Allen
- 4:15Speaker 8: injury or you know something.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Let me ask you question to the group. The Bills
- 4:20Speaker 1: offense has been sporadic this year. They've had good games
- 4:23Speaker 1: and then correct and so when they have a bad game,
- 4:26Speaker 1: what is the deal?
- 4:29Speaker 8: Clunky at the wrong points, like just making dumb. Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 8: I mean that's always a part of it. But I
- 4:33Speaker 8: think too it's just weird stuff happens. Like, you know,
- 4:36Speaker 8: I think Paul talked about it with the last game,
- 4:38Speaker 8: where you know, get no problem to like the forty,
- 4:40Speaker 8: you know, the plus forty, but then stuff happens.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Guys run into each other, you Knowell, Like.
- 4:45Speaker 4: I watched the Sunday Night game and it was weird
- 4:47Speaker 4: because I never watched and said, wow, the Bill's offense
- 4:51Speaker 4: is really struggling tonight. But then you look up and
- 4:53Speaker 4: they had no points going to the fourth quarter. Now
- 4:56Speaker 4: it's a little deceiving because they only had two possessions
- 5:00Speaker 4: in the second half, really crazy, and they scored touchdowns
- 5:03Speaker 4: on both of them, and then they got the ball
- 5:06Speaker 4: at the end and didn't get the first down because
- 5:08Speaker 4: Dawson Knox dropped that ball. So technically three possessions, but
- 5:13Speaker 4: they had like a ten minute drive for a touchdown
- 5:16Speaker 4: and then got the ball back again and had like
- 5:19Speaker 4: an eight minute drive for a touchdown. And that was
- 5:22Speaker 4: how they got there fourteen points and all of a sudden,
- 5:24Speaker 4: the game is over.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:26Speaker 4: It was just one of those games with very few possessions. Now,
- 5:30Speaker 4: I guess if you could somehow figure out a way
- 5:32Speaker 4: to do that. But the key to that, I thought
- 5:34Speaker 4: for the Giants Sunday night was they were possessing the
- 5:37Speaker 4: ball and the Patriots really haven't shown the ability to
- 5:40Speaker 4: do that. You know. I could see a scenario where
- 5:43Speaker 4: the Patriots, I don't know, maybe they cause a punt
- 5:47Speaker 4: or two.
- 5:48Speaker 9: But.
- 5:50Speaker 6: So optimistic.
- 5:53Speaker 4: That's what they did last game. Yeah, and you had
- 5:56Speaker 4: a chance to win. They caused two punts.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It's just what you say.
- 6:00Speaker 4: But that's like, that's the reality of what we're doing.
- 6:02Speaker 4: I'm not trying to be like I know, I'm normally
- 6:05Speaker 4: swinging from the hip and being snarky, but I'm.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Just now it's real.
- 6:09Speaker 4: I'm going with, yeah, that's all gone. Now, I gotta
- 6:14Speaker 4: be careful. Now, this is real. Yeah, this is not
- 6:18Speaker 4: what's gonna prevent us from from hosting the AFC Championship
- 6:20Speaker 4: Game anymore? Right, this is real. This is like, what's
- 6:23Speaker 4: gonna prevent you from having the number one overall pick?
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:27Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean Josh Allen. It's it's just his uncanny
- 6:30Speaker 8: ability to make plays even when you've got him cornered.
- 6:33Speaker 8: And I just think that's something that is so tough
- 6:36Speaker 8: with the Patriots pass rush because you have to get
- 6:39Speaker 8: to him, and first you have to disrupt him out
- 6:41Speaker 8: of the pocket.
- 6:42Speaker 5: But then a whole other part of this story begins.
- 6:45Speaker 8: Where it's getting him and you know, holding coverage and
- 6:48Speaker 8: not allowing him to make those throws like he made
- 6:50Speaker 8: last year where he's you know, one foot halfway out
- 6:52Speaker 8: of bounds and then just fires it back for a touchdown.
- 6:55Speaker 8: You know, it's just it's I mean, I say, I
- 6:59Speaker 8: love watching him because what he's done to the Patriots,
- 7:01Speaker 8: but you just you have to respect how talented and
- 7:03Speaker 8: deadly he is until the play is over. And just
- 7:07Speaker 8: for a defense that's struggling to get pressure right now,
- 7:09Speaker 8: they're banged up on the back end, you don't I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 8: you can't even really roll Jonathan Jones out there, and
- 7:15Speaker 8: even he going back and looking at some of the
- 7:16Speaker 8: stats of how he matched up against Diggs the last
- 7:18Speaker 8: couple of times. It's not good, you know, not good.
- 7:21Speaker 8: He's giving up a bunch of catches to him and
- 7:22Speaker 8: a couple of touchdowns. So, you know what, what do
- 7:25Speaker 8: they pull out of the bag this week? Even when
- 7:27Speaker 8: they had their full contingent in the last couple of years,
- 7:29Speaker 8: their defense, you had Jude on, you had you know,
- 7:31Speaker 8: everybody was kind of out there. It's hard to see
- 7:34Speaker 8: what the plan is going to be. I saw one
- 7:36Speaker 8: you know, X and.
- 7:37Speaker 1: O analysis of what's going on with them, and in
- 7:41Speaker 1: this particular scenario, Josh, you know, they claim that Allen
- 7:45Speaker 1: was forcing it to digs too much. He wasn't seeing
- 7:48Speaker 1: the field, that there's guys there and he's he's locked
- 7:51Speaker 1: in on digs too often and that sometimes hurts them.
- 7:55Speaker 6: Well, they don't really have any secondary receiving threats right now.
- 8:00Speaker 6: Davis is an okay player, and they drafted Dalton Kinkaid
- 8:03Speaker 6: in the first round, but he hasn't really panned out
- 8:05Speaker 6: quite yet. So really their their offense, and this is
- 8:09Speaker 6: kind of what I'm writing about in game Plan. They've
- 8:11Speaker 6: been trying for like a couple of years now to
- 8:14Speaker 6: be less Allan and dig centric, like because it seems
- 8:18Speaker 6: like their offense too often comes down to just Alan
- 8:22Speaker 6: and Diggs playing hero ball and them just making something happen.
- 8:25Speaker 6: And when you get into the playoffs, like this isn't
- 8:27Speaker 6: about the Patriots, like this is about their Super Bowl aspirations,
- 8:30Speaker 6: and then when you get into the playoffs and you
- 8:33Speaker 6: have to win left handed, they can't. Right like, they
- 8:35Speaker 6: don't have a plan B. They are their Plan A
- 8:39Speaker 6: is as good as anybody's Plan A in the entire NFL.
- 8:41Speaker 6: But if their Plan A has a bad day, then
- 8:44Speaker 6: they don't really have a Plan B. So they've been
- 8:46Speaker 6: trying to you know, run the ball a little bit
- 8:48Speaker 6: more traditionally, like from under center and not using Allen
- 8:51Speaker 6: as a runners as Paul pointed out, or a drafting
- 8:55Speaker 6: Kinkaid to try to get somebody else besides Stefon Diggs
- 8:59Speaker 6: that can you be a consistent threat. But every time
- 9:02Speaker 6: the Patriots play the Bills, I feel like the Bills
- 9:05Speaker 6: are a Tesla and the Patriots are like a model
- 9:08Speaker 6: t in terms of the offenses and the philosophy, even
- 9:12Speaker 6: like the Bills are are as you know, they are
- 9:15Speaker 6: one of the best modern franchises in the league, like
- 9:18Speaker 6: they are great kicker, Yeah, exactly, my point they are.
- 9:24Speaker 6: You know, their offense is like people like me that
- 9:28Speaker 6: love the the analytics and love the film and stuff
- 9:31Speaker 6: like that. Their offense is what the nerds want football
- 9:34Speaker 6: to be played like nowadays. They're an aggressive, early down
- 9:37Speaker 6: passing offense. They have this cyborg playing quarterback. They have
- 9:40Speaker 6: a number one superstar receiver, and they are just all gas,
- 9:44Speaker 6: no breaks. And if you are a team like the Patriots,
- 9:48Speaker 6: all you need to like you just need to hope
- 9:50Speaker 6: that they don't just run you there.
- 9:52Speaker 1: So what did the Giants do in the first half?
- 9:55Speaker 6: So the bit my whole thing with how if you
- 9:58Speaker 6: want to try to figure this out? I called Josh
- 10:02Speaker 6: Allen Captain Chaos, right, Like he is one of those
- 10:04Speaker 6: quarterbacks that, like Deuce was saying, he just thrives in chaos,
- 10:09Speaker 6: Like if you you can get pressure, you can you know,
- 10:12Speaker 6: hold up in the back end, and he's just gonna
- 10:14Speaker 6: run around and find out, right, Like that's just who
- 10:16Speaker 6: he is as a player. And I think for Belichick
- 10:18Speaker 6: what makes that so difficult is there's such a rules
- 10:22Speaker 6: based defense, Like there's such a like, you know, do
- 10:25Speaker 6: your job fundamental and all this kind of stuff. But
- 10:28Speaker 6: what happens when the other guy's a cheat code like
- 10:30Speaker 6: and you just you can you can sit there and
- 10:33Speaker 6: play great coverage and he's still gonna beat you. So
- 10:36Speaker 6: I think what the Giants did and wink, Martindale is
- 10:39Speaker 6: a notorious blitzer and just a graduating defensive coordinator, and uh,
- 10:45Speaker 6: what the Giants did. What the Jets do a little
- 10:47Speaker 6: bit is they fight chaos with chaos. Like if you're
- 10:50Speaker 6: gonna you're gonna be chaotic and you're gonna, you know,
- 10:53Speaker 6: play that way. We're gonna send different pressure looks at you,
- 10:57Speaker 6: We're gonna spend the dial in the back end, and
- 10:59Speaker 6: you are never going to know what we are in
- 11:01Speaker 6: like you, you were never going to just line up
- 11:03Speaker 6: across from you and play you straight.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I mean that sounds like something the Patriots defense has
- 11:08Speaker 1: done well in the past is spin the dial, give
- 11:11Speaker 1: the quarterback different looks, try to confuse them and all that.
- 11:15Speaker 1: But right now, because of the injuries, I don't know
- 11:18Speaker 1: if they're they have all the you know, the little
- 11:22Speaker 1: notches on their dial right now available to them.
- 11:24Speaker 8: You know what I'm kind of remembering is there was
- 11:26Speaker 8: a point, I don't know, nine ten, something like that.
- 11:28Speaker 8: One of the years they were really having trouble getting
- 11:30Speaker 8: after the quarterback and then all of a sudden they
- 11:32Speaker 8: just started putting like one defensive lineman down and everybody
- 11:35Speaker 8: else is like walking around, and it was just kind
- 11:37Speaker 8: of felt like drastic times called I.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Called it the cocktail party.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Cocktail party.
- 11:40Speaker 8: Everybody's walking around like, I don't know if they can
- 11:42Speaker 8: go to that on you know, bas downs anything that
- 11:45Speaker 8: an amba amba. So I just I wonder if something
- 11:48Speaker 8: like that is coming some kind of just like drastic
- 11:51Speaker 8: kind of changed to time.
- 11:52Speaker 4: I think the really the game the other night was
- 11:54Speaker 4: about the Giants offense. The Giants offense stayed on the
- 11:57Speaker 4: field and kept Josh Allen on the sideline. I mean,
- 11:59Speaker 4: I'm just looking in the turnovers. The turnovers were huge.
- 12:04Speaker 4: They went three and out to start the game, Buffalo did.
- 12:07Speaker 4: Then they drove forty yards and fumbled thirty eight yards.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Then they missed a field goal and had a pick
- 12:14Speaker 4: like yeah, just like that, and all of a sudden,
- 12:16Speaker 4: you don't score it now. The second half it was touchdown, touchdown,
- 12:19Speaker 4: miss field goal. They had three possessions.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Right, but over those drives like touch.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Seventeen eighty four, twelve seventy and then the last one
- 12:27Speaker 4: they took over and field goal ranged missed the field
- 12:29Speaker 4: goal twelve minutes, no twelve plays seventy days, it was
- 12:34Speaker 4: ten minutes, ten minutes nine fit's a long drive, nine
- 12:37Speaker 4: fifty eight. So what the Giants did was they possessed
- 12:39Speaker 4: the ball in the first half. Do you have with
- 12:42Speaker 4: the final thirty two to twenty eight and that's where
- 12:45Speaker 4: a ten minute touchdown drive for Buffalo, they still didn't
- 12:48Speaker 4: have the ball for four minutes more than the Giants law.
- 12:52Speaker 4: So like it's easy to sit here and say that's
- 12:56Speaker 4: what the Patriots have to do, Well, how do you
- 12:57Speaker 4: do that? But how do you possess the ball when
- 13:00Speaker 4: you haven't been able to move the ball all year?
- 13:01Speaker 6: I also just think, like, you know, the Bills, they
- 13:04Speaker 6: can score so quickly, So I like, as much as
- 13:07Speaker 6: you want to say, possess the ball, like they can
- 13:11Speaker 6: just score in thirty seconds. And it's like when.
- 13:14Speaker 4: That's what the Giants did a good job of making
- 13:16Speaker 4: them go slow, which is kind of like what the
- 13:18Speaker 4: Patriots did in the Thursday Night game last year, and
- 13:21Speaker 4: everybody sort of criticized myself included, well, if you're just
- 13:25Speaker 4: going to sit back and let them do that and
- 13:27Speaker 4: they win twenty four to ten instead of you know,
- 13:29Speaker 4: thirty four to twenty four, what's the difference? You know,
- 13:33Speaker 4: would be my argument. But I think the Giants did
- 13:36Speaker 4: a little of that in the Sunday night game, and
- 13:38Speaker 4: I actually thought, we're talking about all these things that
- 13:41Speaker 4: are wrong with Buffalo. They've had a few games where
- 13:45Speaker 4: they've been slowed down. They've also had a few games
- 13:47Speaker 4: that they've been typically the dominant selves. Yeah, so you
- 13:51Speaker 4: know which one you're going to get on Sunday. You know,
- 13:54Speaker 4: my guess is you're going to get the better view
- 13:56Speaker 4: of the better version of Buffalo's offense, because it was
- 13:59Speaker 4: three weeks in a row where they were up in
- 14:01Speaker 4: the upper thirties and into the forties, and then you know,
- 14:04Speaker 4: then they had twenty in London and then fourteen. I
- 14:07Speaker 4: actually from a Buffalo perspective, and I agree with Evan.
- 14:10Speaker 4: I kind of like Josh Allen. I like watching them play,
- 14:13Speaker 4: even though you know he's in the division.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Definitely respect him. I would.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I came out of the game Sunday Night with Buffalo
- 14:22Speaker 4: from their perspective, saying that's a game that they always lose.
- 14:26Speaker 4: It's a tight game. They lose a lot of close games.
- 14:30Speaker 4: You know, it was a tight game throughout. They looked
- 14:32Speaker 4: like they weren't quite sharp. This is a game that
- 14:35Speaker 4: Buffalo always finds a way to lose, and they won
- 14:38Speaker 4: their teeth. Yeah, now the game ended in I thought that.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Mcammott the game ended in the Giant's hands though.
- 14:44Speaker 4: At thee and on time down. Yeah, now we can
- 14:49Speaker 4: get to that stuff too. But I thought McDermott did
- 14:52Speaker 4: a disservice in the game. I don't think they should
- 14:54Speaker 4: have tried that field goal that they missed at the end,
- 14:56Speaker 4: which would have made it an eight point game. I
- 14:58Speaker 4: would have just punted and tried to pay him inside
- 15:00Speaker 4: the ten and made Tyrod Taylor go ninety yards in
- 15:04Speaker 4: two minutes for a touchdown to see if he could
- 15:06Speaker 4: do it. Instead, you gave him the ball at the
- 15:08Speaker 4: forty three yard by Now I know he doesn't expect
- 15:10Speaker 4: to miss the field goal. The guy literally had his
- 15:13Speaker 4: first two misses of any kicks all season in that game.
- 15:18Speaker 4: But I thought that was a mistake the end of
- 15:21Speaker 4: the game. I don't did you see any of the
- 15:22Speaker 4: end of the game, Fred, Well, it came down they fast.
- 15:26Speaker 4: They kind of the Bills defense did a good job.
- 15:28Speaker 4: They made him go like five yards at a time
- 15:30Speaker 4: and take the clock all the way down. There was
- 15:32Speaker 4: nine seconds left. They were at the fifteen and then
- 15:35Speaker 4: Tyrod Taylor ran on the play to make it down
- 15:39Speaker 4: to two seconds from the ten. Then they threw a
- 15:42Speaker 4: pass in the end zone that got called for passing appearance,
- 15:44Speaker 4: which was very a very cheesy call on the passing appearance.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Then the next play was none timed down from the
- 15:49Speaker 4: one and the guy absolutely abused. Darren Waller, I don't
- 15:53Speaker 4: have any idea how they didn't call passing appearance on
- 15:56Speaker 4: the second one. It was one of the most blatant
- 15:58Speaker 4: passing appearances you'll ever see. They should have had another
- 16:01Speaker 4: run time down from the half yard line. I also
- 16:04Speaker 4: wondered why they didn't run, and I know they ran
- 16:06Speaker 4: the first half.
- 16:07Speaker 6: The play call by the Giants on that last play
- 16:09Speaker 6: was brutal. I mean, like, you have the the one
- 16:11Speaker 6: thing that Tyrod has going for him is that he
- 16:13Speaker 6: can run, So like how you don't like put some
- 16:16Speaker 6: sort of look on it with his legs involved. I
- 16:20Speaker 6: they just like straight drop back, play action past it
- 16:23Speaker 6: and try to like get like I.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Thought that was weird. Yeah, and I know they had
- 16:28Speaker 4: it covered too. I thought he did a good job,
- 16:30Speaker 4: but he doesn't definitely interfered with him. I mean, there's
- 16:33Speaker 4: no question. I thought the first one that gave him
- 16:36Speaker 4: the second chance was a little tickie tack. That one
- 16:39Speaker 4: was not. I can't believe they didn't call Yeah Johnson
- 16:42Speaker 4: for that one.
- 16:43Speaker 6: This Bill's offense, like this is this is their mo though.
- 16:46Speaker 6: They're a volatile group, like they're either like I said,
- 16:49Speaker 6: they're either running you over or they're having games like
- 16:52Speaker 6: they had last week. And that's what they're trying to
- 16:55Speaker 6: coach out of this group. And that's why they are
- 16:58Speaker 6: trying to find like a traditionalunning game. And there are
- 17:01Speaker 6: like just things that you can just lean on when
- 17:03Speaker 6: like Allen's nonsense like isn't working for whatever reason, they
- 17:07Speaker 6: can go to something else. It would be more puzz.
- 17:09Speaker 8: Do you think maybe, like you said, that's usually the
- 17:11Speaker 8: game they lose. Do you feel like maybe this is
- 17:13Speaker 8: something they're they're finding a little pity a positive term.
- 17:16Speaker 4: And I think back to the Monday Night game that
- 17:17Speaker 4: they are a horrific loss to start the season in
- 17:20Speaker 4: the Aaron Rodgers game. I actually looked at it as
- 17:24Speaker 4: it didn't work, but they lined the first time they
- 17:26Speaker 4: got inside the ten, they lined up under center, put
- 17:29Speaker 4: Damien Harris in the game and tried to run it
- 17:32Speaker 4: in like every other team does. And you know, they
- 17:35Speaker 4: didn't score a lot of points that night. You know,
- 17:36Speaker 4: the offense wasn't good in that game. But I just
- 17:39Speaker 4: thought maybe they have sort of looked at some of
- 17:42Speaker 4: the things that they've fallen short and now last year.
- 17:45Speaker 4: Notwithstanding last year they had a complete and utter collapse
- 17:49Speaker 4: and their playoff loss to Cincinnati, they got dominated on
- 17:52Speaker 4: both sides of the ball for sixty minutes. The bulk
- 17:54Speaker 4: of their playoff losses, the offense has been pretty good,
- 17:58Speaker 4: especially the one two years ago in Kansas City was
- 18:02Speaker 4: an unbelievable shootout. So I wouldn't necessarily say they have
- 18:08Speaker 4: to do things differently other than you got to try
- 18:10Speaker 4: to protect Josh Allen, and I do think that that's
- 18:14Speaker 4: part of it. I think there have been times where
- 18:16Speaker 4: he would have run in the past, and I think
- 18:18Speaker 4: he's really trying to say, Okay, you know, we're in
- 18:22Speaker 4: the middle of October, do we really need this third
- 18:24Speaker 4: down more than that third down, and he still does
- 18:27Speaker 4: it in the goal line. I think he has three
- 18:29Speaker 4: out of you know, twenty two carries, three of them
- 18:30Speaker 4: are rushing touchdowns, so he's still doing it, I think
- 18:34Speaker 4: when he gets down in the red zone and stuff.
- 18:37Speaker 4: But he also still does like really reckless things like that.
- 18:40Speaker 4: The game winning touchdown pass was no no, no, oh great, oh, Josh,
- 18:45Speaker 4: you know, like it was a terrible decision.
- 18:47Speaker 6: And those are the things that just as a defensive
- 18:49Speaker 6: guy like Belichick, like that just has to be absolutely maddening,
- 18:53Speaker 6: Like we got pressure, we covered it perfectly, and then
- 18:56Speaker 6: he just does some stupid thing that no one else
- 18:59Speaker 6: should do.
- 19:01Speaker 4: His own look of that play yet that the first
- 19:05Speaker 4: of all, was like a third tight end who only
- 19:07Speaker 4: played because Dalton kin k didn't play. That it was
- 19:11Speaker 4: the first time the guy was targeted all year. He
- 19:14Speaker 4: wasn't looking and there was a giant right next to
- 19:17Speaker 4: him when he threw the ball.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Like that's mac.
- 19:22Speaker 4: It's it would have taken a half hour to get
- 19:25Speaker 4: there and a guy would have turned not being serious.
- 19:28Speaker 4: That's like el Way can do that, Josh Allen can
- 19:32Speaker 4: do that. Everybody else can't.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So it's going to be a monumental task, you know, normally,
- 19:37Speaker 1: like if the Patriots were a dog against an AFCAS
- 19:41Speaker 1: she said, well, you know, division games, I'll figure out
- 19:44Speaker 1: a way to keep it close, you know, like they
- 19:46Speaker 1: did earlier with Miami. And obviously they beat the Jets.
- 19:49Speaker 1: But the Patriots are going the wrong direction, and I
- 19:52Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know what they can do to
- 19:54Speaker 1: keep this one close. I'm you know, I.
- 19:57Speaker 6: Actually think that they they might not do anything to
- 19:59Speaker 6: keep bit close. But for Buffalo, like this reminds me,
- 20:03Speaker 6: like you like mentioned Fred, Like you know, the Patriots
- 20:06Speaker 6: are other teams like get right games right right now,
- 20:09Speaker 6: this reminds me of like a take care of business
- 20:11Speaker 6: game for Buffalo, Like they Josh Allen's banged up a
- 20:14Speaker 6: little bit. He's got a shoulder injury. He's going to practice,
- 20:17Speaker 6: I think McDermott said, but he's going to be limited.
- 20:19Speaker 6: And they don't need to bring their A plus stuff
- 20:23Speaker 6: to this game to beat the people.
- 20:25Speaker 1: Frankly, the last time that Buffalo played here, they didn't
- 20:29Speaker 1: have their foot on the gas the whole game.
- 20:31Speaker 6: That's sort of the type of game that I'm predicted.
- 20:33Speaker 4: A business like Thursday night road win right in the
- 20:36Speaker 4: first half and coasted in the second.
- 20:38Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, and the Patriots used to do this
- 20:40Speaker 6: for twenty years. Right where we're you know, we're a
- 20:43Speaker 6: little banged up where you know, we have this you
- 20:45Speaker 6: know next week is a bigger game or something like that.
- 20:47Speaker 6: We're just gonna make underestimating the Patriots. No, it's just
- 20:53Speaker 6: like if the score, if the score, I just don't
- 20:56Speaker 6: anticipate that they're going to lose by thirty because I
- 20:59Speaker 6: don't think Buffalo is gonna come out. You know, Dallas
- 21:01Speaker 6: was motivated in that game after losing to the Cardinals,
- 21:05Speaker 6: and they destroyed the Patriots. I would say that the
- 21:07Speaker 6: Bills are more in the take care of business category
- 21:10Speaker 6: and this one.
- 21:10Speaker 4: The health of the Bill's defense I think will make
- 21:14Speaker 4: it difficult for them to blow them out, because that's
- 21:18Speaker 4: how they usually blow teams out, is when they get
- 21:20Speaker 4: their offense rolling, then that pass rush causes turnovers. But
- 21:24Speaker 4: everybody's missing from the Bill's defense. I mean, they're missing
- 21:26Speaker 4: like five starters, so the the pass rush seems to
- 21:30Speaker 4: be still intact health wise, you know, Lennon Floyd and
- 21:33Speaker 4: Epanessa and those guys Von Miller was pretty active in
- 21:37Speaker 4: that last drive the other night, even though he didn't
- 21:39Speaker 4: get any He didn't get any sacks, and I don't know,
- 21:42Speaker 4: it's hard to record pressures. It's hard to tell.
- 21:46Speaker 6: One.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Did he have one that especially he was, but he
- 21:49Speaker 4: was definitely flashing on that drive and I'm sure that bothered.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Thinking about him going into that mix with those guys.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Friday Milano's losses, he's out, day Kwon Jones's loss is
- 21:59Speaker 4: huge and middle and Trey White is level they had.
- 22:04Speaker 4: Who's the other one? Is it Dane Jackson? Who's the
- 22:07Speaker 4: other Who's the corner?
- 22:08Speaker 6: Dane Jackson?
- 22:09Speaker 4: Is that right? See the guy who missed the game?
- 22:11Speaker 6: I think so, because he was out there, Yeah, John
- 22:15Speaker 6: out there?
- 22:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so Jackson who was probably the third corner because
- 22:19Speaker 4: they had to play Elam who has been really bad.
- 22:21Speaker 4: He's the first round bust for them, Coyrier, Elom Christian
- 22:25Speaker 4: Benford has played pretty well. But you know, this is
- 22:29Speaker 4: like the old thing that Freddy always talks about. Everybody
- 22:31Speaker 4: has to slide up a notch, and you know he's
- 22:33Speaker 4: he's Benford's probably pretty good as a second banana, right,
- 22:36Speaker 4: But now you get no Trey White I like Taron
- 22:39Speaker 4: john I agree with Evan on Taron Johnson.
- 22:42Speaker 5: That's the guys made some place too, and the placement
- 22:46Speaker 5: of of what's his face.
- 22:47Speaker 4: But he's he's small and he's the guy who got
- 22:50Speaker 4: called for passing the finerance in the end zone. That's
- 22:52Speaker 4: what I would like, some vulnerability there in the middle.
- 22:54Speaker 6: Yeah, if you're looking at where the Patriots offense could
- 22:58Speaker 6: find some hay in this game, it's it's probably running
- 23:00Speaker 6: the run the ball, like those linebackers, Like the Bills
- 23:04Speaker 6: had Mulano and Edmunds for years and that was one
- 23:06Speaker 6: of the best linebacker duos in the league. This is
- 23:08Speaker 6: not that, Like they don't have those two guys anymore.
- 23:11Speaker 6: And both the guys that they're playing in there because
- 23:12Speaker 6: they play so much zone coverage, they're smaller, you know,
- 23:15Speaker 6: to play in space and coverage. So the Giants even
- 23:19Speaker 6: though it you know, didn't add up to I think
- 23:21Speaker 6: it was like three point nine a carry or something
- 23:23Speaker 6: like that, but Barkley had a few big runs well
- 23:26Speaker 6: and then drive that they.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Ended up you know, and this is another one at Dable,
- 23:29Speaker 4: like they the Giants probably should have won the game,
- 23:32Speaker 4: like that drive that Evan's talking about in the fourth
- 23:34Speaker 4: quarter was like nineteen yards thirty four yards. They get
- 23:37Speaker 4: effortlessly down the field. They had third down in like
- 23:40Speaker 4: this much. Here you go that much guys, and he run,
- 23:44Speaker 4: he throws the ball with with with Taylor. He goes
- 23:47Speaker 4: for a bigger play and they're in the red zone
- 23:50Speaker 4: and it's incut I'm thinking, well, okay, you took a
- 23:53Speaker 4: shot for a touchdown there, they're gonna go for him,
- 23:55Speaker 4: and he kicks the field goal to take the nine
- 23:56Speaker 4: to seven lead. I'm like, you got it. You had
- 24:00Speaker 4: them on the run. I mean, what are the odds
- 24:02Speaker 4: that they were going to come up with a stopped
- 24:04Speaker 4: there or on the run. I know they stopped them
- 24:06Speaker 4: in the goal line, and I think they stopped a
- 24:08Speaker 4: third and short earlier in the game, But at that
- 24:10Speaker 4: time in the game, I thought the Bills defense looked
- 24:13Speaker 4: vulnerable to the run and Barkley was sort of heating up.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Yeah, you can run downhill on this Bills team. Like
- 24:18Speaker 6: they're smaller. Daikwon Jones is not healthy. The linebackers are
- 24:24Speaker 6: smaller and aren't the same talent level as the guys
- 24:26Speaker 6: that you used to have in there. And you know,
- 24:29Speaker 6: they play that overfront, and the Patriots have always pulled
- 24:31Speaker 6: a lot of guards against Buffalo and ran it down
- 24:34Speaker 6: down their throats, And I do think you can do
- 24:36Speaker 6: that now. Are they gonna be able to throw it
- 24:38Speaker 6: on the bills that they couldn't throw it on the
- 24:40Speaker 6: bills even when Brady was here, when McDermott once McDermott
- 24:43Speaker 6: got there. So it's been a little bit rough.
- 24:45Speaker 8: So I was gonna say Poyer in Hide it was
- 24:47Speaker 8: just kind of like mccordy and Chung, you know, just
- 24:48Speaker 8: a long term safety duo that knows what to do,
- 24:52Speaker 8: knows where everybody you're at. And I mean we've seen
- 24:54Speaker 8: you know how many picks they've had on Mac A
- 24:56Speaker 8: couple of least. I remember the playoff one to Agalore.
- 24:58Speaker 8: But those guys are really good too the back end.
- 25:00Speaker 1: In terms of the Patriots health, it's probably better to
- 25:04Speaker 1: talk about who's available rather than who's out, because it's
- 25:06Speaker 1: a long list and.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Expect that to get longer.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Yeah, these lost did Pyton? Now the Patriots practice Tuesday?
- 25:13Speaker 1: A rare Tuesday? Did they issue what participation?
- 25:17Speaker 5: They'll get it to us on Wednesday.
- 25:18Speaker 4: They don't have to Wednesday Thursday, Friday, Okay, So.
- 25:21Speaker 5: We'll see today Evan. I mean, I'm curious when Evan
- 25:23Speaker 5: goes out, which of those veterans.
- 25:25Speaker 1: Yeah, now McDermott's back, uh, Conn he was signed to
- 25:30Speaker 1: the practice square, but I would expect him to be
- 25:33Speaker 1: right if he's healthy.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Yeah, if he's ready to go.
- 25:36Speaker 8: I mean I think everybody is that at this point,
- 25:38Speaker 8: like just surprised they couldn't find something else to to
- 25:40Speaker 8: swap in there, uh, you know for Verderian Low. So
- 25:43Speaker 8: I hope, I'm hopeful. I'm kind of hopeful, like just
- 25:45Speaker 8: to change it up a little bit.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Another item of minutia in terms of injuries, Bill indicated
- 25:54Speaker 4: today that Riley Reef's injury last week was something different
- 25:58Speaker 4: than what had originally sidelined him. So that's not good. Yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 6: I saw Riley Reef and limping around the locker room
- 26:04Speaker 6: yesterday with a sleeve on his right leg.
- 26:07Speaker 4: And so he opened the season on IR. He came
- 26:10Speaker 4: back and played okay at guard I thought, yeah, and
- 26:13Speaker 4: most most people thought like three quarters of a game,
- 26:16Speaker 4: and then he went back out and then he was
- 26:18Speaker 4: inactive last week. He was an early inactive, didn't make
- 26:20Speaker 4: the trip to Vegas, and Bill indicated today that it
- 26:24Speaker 4: was something different than it had originally sidelined him, So
- 26:27Speaker 4: that's not good.
- 26:28Speaker 6: And Tonio Mafi, yeah, for better or worse, Yeah, I
- 26:32Speaker 6: had Oliver.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Jeez, he had. Oliver is one of those interior defensive
- 26:37Speaker 4: linemen I really like. But you can run at him
- 26:39Speaker 4: a little bit, but he's he's.
- 26:40Speaker 6: Good, like already teaching Tonio Mafi how to pick up
- 26:43Speaker 6: a stunt, like please just like get get like scars
- 26:48Speaker 6: coming here this weekend, right, like can we just get
- 26:50Speaker 6: them to stop by for like a couple hours and
- 26:52Speaker 6: just be like this is what you do, okay, Like
- 26:55Speaker 6: this is what you do when they do this.
- 26:56Speaker 8: It's funny because like when you I mean, I don't
- 26:58Speaker 8: know what the exact measurements are, but like mind use
- 27:00Speaker 8: similar squarish body type. But he's got some foot movement skills.
- 27:05Speaker 8: Like I just feel like Mafi is so heavy, so
- 27:07Speaker 8: heavy footage.
- 27:08Speaker 6: I think it's recognition on the stunts, Like I just
- 27:11Speaker 6: don't think he sees him coming, and like I I
- 27:14Speaker 6: that's what frustrates me about it because like to me,
- 27:18Speaker 6: like you should be able to coach him up, like
- 27:20Speaker 6: it's I don't think that it's like he is too
- 27:23Speaker 6: slow to like, you know, foot speed wise to react
- 27:26Speaker 6: to it. I just don't like he's just his eyes
- 27:28Speaker 6: are in the wrong places and he doesn't see it coming.
- 27:30Speaker 6: And it's like, come on, like this is going on
- 27:32Speaker 6: and now teams are are just doing it on purpose
- 27:35Speaker 6: just to mess with him, right Like they just they're
- 27:37Speaker 6: doing it over and over and over again and making
- 27:40Speaker 6: him do it and until he.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Picks one up, he's going to keep seeing him.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yeah, as Evan reported yesterday, jack Jones returned to the
- 27:47Speaker 1: practice field. Is he is he available right away? I
- 27:51Speaker 1: know that, you know, they have to make a decision
- 27:54Speaker 1: by Saturday, by three weeks, but he could play, he
- 27:58Speaker 1: could play something.
- 27:59Speaker 6: Yeah, they could activate on Saturday.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:01Speaker 8: I think it'd be a nice little boost for him,
- 28:02Speaker 8: just because it seems like Jonathan Jones is really he's hurt.
- 28:05Speaker 1: He's hurt.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I mean, he's fighting through things right now. I don't
- 28:07Speaker 5: know when he is.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Going to be healthy.
- 28:09Speaker 5: And it's just tough.
- 28:10Speaker 4: It's tough.
- 28:11Speaker 8: I mean, maybe jac Jackson is starting to get a
- 28:13Speaker 8: little bit more situated, I guess, but I don't know.
- 28:16Speaker 8: He kind of feels like he is what he is,
- 28:18Speaker 8: and yeah, I thought.
- 28:18Speaker 6: Mike Pelgrino had some interesting answers about j C yesterday
- 28:22Speaker 6: and he said to me that if jac makes a
- 28:25Speaker 6: mistake that you see on the tape, it's my fault,
- 28:29Speaker 6: like Pelgrino's fault. And he's like, you know that, Like
- 28:31Speaker 6: he's making some mental errors right now, and it's because
- 28:34Speaker 6: we're not. You know, we got to coach him better,
- 28:36Speaker 6: Like we got to coach him up on some of
- 28:38Speaker 6: the things that he's making mistakes on. I thought in
- 28:41Speaker 6: terms of like actual coverage, Jac was really good in
- 28:44Speaker 6: that game against Vegas. I mean, they took a couple
- 28:46Speaker 6: of shots against him, and he was blanketing the guys.
- 28:49Speaker 6: So I think a lot of the mental stuff the
- 28:51Speaker 6: coaches are kind of taking responsibility for that, So hopefully
- 28:54Speaker 6: that will eventually get better.
- 28:56Speaker 5: Do you remember him going up against Digs at all?
- 28:58Speaker 4: And he haven't? Oh it was horrible, Yeah, oh yeah,
- 29:01Speaker 4: the Monday night game when I was in a coma,
- 29:04Speaker 4: when I couldn't serious. It's the only it's literally the
- 29:08Speaker 4: only game I've ever missed for illness in my life.
- 29:11Speaker 4: That game was just attract me. That was the infamous
- 29:14Speaker 4: Lewis Riddick. They think they have a plan for Josh Allen.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I think.
- 29:19Speaker 6: I think Diggs had three touchdowns on him in that game.
- 29:22Speaker 5: Yeah, Jesus, I didn't even realize bringing that up.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:24Speaker 6: And then twenty one in Buffalo Jason Off game No.
- 29:29Speaker 1: No.
- 29:30Speaker 6: In the regular season, I think j C had an interception,
- 29:32Speaker 6: but Diggs had a big touch. You know, it was
- 29:34Speaker 6: like kind of like a you know, two Haymaker type situation.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Is never it's one of the rare one guy on
- 29:41Speaker 4: the other team never beats the Patriots.
- 29:44Speaker 6: He always has been wound. He has six touchdowns in
- 29:48Speaker 6: six games, gets the They can't stop him as a bill.
- 29:51Speaker 4: I mean, not counting what he did against.
- 29:54Speaker 6: He's been there tonight, kid like probably like more so,
- 29:57Speaker 6: I would say even than Tyreek Hill and ways like
- 30:00Speaker 6: at least they've in some games against Tyreek Hill, they've
- 30:03Speaker 6: like kind of solved that that problem with Digs.
- 30:06Speaker 4: They he averages about ninety yards. It's it's a game.
- 30:09Speaker 8: It's not the same as Brady and Edelman, but it's
- 30:11Speaker 8: just like how is he open on third and eight?
- 30:14Speaker 4: Like how are you not covering him? You know, like
- 30:15Speaker 4: they just.
- 30:16Speaker 5: Somehow are able to execute plays when like.
- 30:18Speaker 6: It's going to digs.
- 30:19Speaker 5: It's gonna go to digs, and it goes to digs,
- 30:21Speaker 5: and there's just you're.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Powerless to stop it.
- 30:22Speaker 1: That's the key. That's what a top flight receiver can do.
- 30:26Speaker 1: And that's why there's such big difference makers they get
- 30:29Speaker 1: open even when you try to stop him.
- 30:31Speaker 6: They it's really hard to bracket him because he's such good,
- 30:35Speaker 6: so good at running vertical routes, and like the problems
- 30:37Speaker 6: with brackets. It's like, all right, you got him if
- 30:39Speaker 6: he goes inside, I got him if he goes outside,
- 30:41Speaker 6: But who got him if he goes deep? Right, Like
- 30:43Speaker 6: that's like the always the issue. So you can't bracket
- 30:46Speaker 6: him because he's so good at going deep. But then
- 30:49Speaker 6: if you just put one guy on him, even if
- 30:51Speaker 6: he has safety help over the top, he's so good underneath,
- 30:54Speaker 6: so that it's just like you know, what do you
- 30:56Speaker 6: really do? You know, take him out it's.
- 30:58Speaker 5: A high low and inside you up four guys.
- 31:00Speaker 6: On there we go.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and they have to.
- 31:04Speaker 5: Be fast and fast, Yeah, maybe physical too, Yeah, pretty
- 31:07Speaker 5: strong all right?
- 31:08Speaker 1: Eight five five PATS five hundred is the ACE Ticket
- 31:10Speaker 1: hot Line web radio at Patriots dot com as the
- 31:13Speaker 1: email just something that caught my eye this morning. I
- 31:18Speaker 1: didn't know.
- 31:18Speaker 10: Uh.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I don't want to digress too much, but Caleb Williams says,
- 31:22Speaker 1: whoever he gets drafted by he wants a piece of
- 31:24Speaker 1: the team. What does he come off?
- 31:26Speaker 5: Okay, so do I where do you come off?
- 31:28Speaker 6: Well that's also illegal, you can't.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Well yeah, but like what, like I'm a little worried
- 31:32Speaker 1: about this guy.
- 31:33Speaker 6: I mean too, yeah, I'm getting there as well.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 4: Usually I poo poo you on side. I don't on this. Yeah,
- 31:40Speaker 4: you know, the whole ni L thing, and now this, yeah,
- 31:43Speaker 4: us worth the hassle.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It's so funny.
- 31:46Speaker 5: I was thinking that same thing this morning, and I
- 31:48Speaker 5: was like, oh, maybe I should bring that up on
- 31:49Speaker 5: the show.
- 31:49Speaker 4: And then I was just imagining you.
- 31:51Speaker 8: Guys like, oh, you don't want him now because he's
- 31:53Speaker 8: always a little bit too.
- 31:56Speaker 5: Like everybody's the same way of being like, yeah, that's
- 31:58Speaker 5: kind of weird.
- 31:58Speaker 4: I worry if I worry about how much he cares
- 32:00Speaker 4: about football. Does he cared more about this stuff than
- 32:04Speaker 4: anything else?
- 32:04Speaker 1: That's all?
- 32:05Speaker 4: I mean, I think you can play. Yeah, I mean
- 32:07Speaker 4: I don't care about the three. I mean, he had
- 32:08Speaker 4: a terrible game the other night.
- 32:09Speaker 5: Why would you put that out I mean, do you
- 32:11Speaker 5: think it was put out there or is that kind
- 32:12Speaker 5: of I don't know that it.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Did originate from Pro Football Talk, right, so it's in
- 32:17Speaker 4: question you.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Can all right, I just thought i'd throw that out there.
- 32:21Speaker 6: Little I'm I'm slowly starting to be a Drake May guy.
- 32:25Speaker 6: Like I'm already a Drake May guy as the number
- 32:27Speaker 6: two quarterback.
- 32:28Speaker 4: And I Williams, I need, I need to get you
- 32:31Speaker 4: haven't dealt it haven't come out to like April, He's
- 32:35Speaker 4: he's screwed d.
- 32:38Speaker 6: He's he's just cool, you know, like he's got that
- 32:41Speaker 6: like Herbert Burrough just like like that cool swagginess to him.
- 32:46Speaker 6: And I don't think that he's like a diva like
- 32:48Speaker 6: Caleb Williams, like six four six five.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Like that to him.
- 32:51Speaker 4: I also kind of like the guys that are dominant
- 32:55Speaker 4: with less traditional programs then you know, like the knack
- 32:59Speaker 4: of you know, but like he lifts those around him.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Like North Carolina's is a good team. Okay, I'm not
- 33:05Speaker 4: telling you this is you know, Vanderbilt, but they're they're
- 33:09Speaker 4: a good team. But they're not a blue blood like
- 33:11Speaker 4: like in like they are in basketball, and you know,
- 33:15Speaker 4: I think Oklahoma USC for Caleb Williams. There's a lot
- 33:19Speaker 4: of NFL players that that is that. I don't know
- 33:22Speaker 4: if they'll have as many from North Carolina. They've had
- 33:25Speaker 4: some good skill guys in recent days North Carolina receivers.
- 33:29Speaker 4: Where Hitchcock from, Yeah, he was n C State.
- 33:32Speaker 5: I believe like those guys, Javonte Williams was that one.
- 33:35Speaker 4: I think Javonte Williams just won. Michael Carter the pass Cats.
- 33:41Speaker 5: Yeah, program going one good program.
- 33:44Speaker 4: Well the well, you know, Matt Brown's a good coach.
- 33:46Speaker 6: They're very good at U recruiting. Like those spots though,
- 33:50Speaker 6: like they're like the skill positions quarterback, their line play
- 33:54Speaker 6: is terrible.
- 33:55Speaker 8: Do you guys put a lot of stock into Like
- 33:56Speaker 8: I'd never draft a fill in the blank position from
- 34:00Speaker 8: fill in the blank school.
- 34:01Speaker 4: No, But I do think there's some validity to some
- 34:03Speaker 4: of it. Yeah, like the Ohio State quarterback then you
- 34:06Speaker 4: know that's.
- 34:06Speaker 6: The only one because their offense is like really unique
- 34:10Speaker 6: to Ohio State, and a lot of those quarterbacks fail
- 34:13Speaker 6: because like they have very weird kind of details in
- 34:17Speaker 6: that offense that are you know, drop backs, like how
- 34:20Speaker 6: they like their quarterbacks to drop back and progressions and
- 34:24Speaker 6: things like that are all like backwards, so like.
- 34:26Speaker 8: Going back aways though, like you know, even when it's historical,
- 34:29Speaker 8: and you know, I just am always like, well, are
- 34:30Speaker 8: the systems kind of consistent through you know, like twenty
- 34:33Speaker 8: years of you know, I would never draft whatever from it.
- 34:36Speaker 4: I do fall into the I like to draft x
- 34:40Speaker 4: from programs that have success with that, like you know,
- 34:43Speaker 4: the old Penn State linebacker thing. You know, offensive lineman
- 34:47Speaker 4: from Wisconsin or even Boston College has had a lot
- 34:50Speaker 4: of good NFL offensive lineman over the years.
- 34:52Speaker 6: They have another one this year.
- 34:53Speaker 4: Yeah, So I do fall into that, whereas the programs
- 34:57Speaker 4: that know how to Wisconsin sort of create yeah, you know,
- 35:01Speaker 4: certain spots still kind of the SEC though, Oh god,
- 35:04Speaker 4: yeah lineman from SEC.
- 35:07Speaker 1: All right, eight five five, Pats five hundred. Let's go
- 35:09Speaker 1: to the phones, get people involved. Matthews in New Mexico.
- 35:14Speaker 1: What's up, Matthew?
- 35:16Speaker 11: See you guys.
- 35:16Speaker 12: How's it going.
- 35:19Speaker 6: Right now?
- 35:19Speaker 11: It's just like a hard place.
- 35:21Speaker 5: You know.
- 35:22Speaker 11: I don't know how old Evan is, but I'm twenty seven, and.
- 35:25Speaker 12: Like my memory of watching the Patriots goes to like
- 35:28Speaker 12: the two thousand and two season, and you know, I
- 35:31Speaker 12: love Bill, like I want Bill to be the coach,
- 35:34Speaker 12: and I want him to finish and I want him
- 35:36Speaker 12: to get the record and everything.
- 35:38Speaker 11: But if you're Robert Kraft and like, let's say the
- 35:41Speaker 11: season goes, you know, like we have the fourth six
- 35:44Speaker 11: or let's just say, you know, for right.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Now, what does Bill like?
- 35:49Speaker 12: What does Bill have to.
- 35:50Speaker 11: Do to earn like the trust and like his plan
- 35:54Speaker 11: or is it literally just too far gone, like he's
- 35:56Speaker 11: lost the locker room, like these guys seem like they
- 35:59Speaker 11: don't want to play for him, and like DeVante Parker,
- 36:03Speaker 11: And yeah, that's why I guess that's my question is
- 36:06Speaker 11: like what.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good question. Do you know if they
- 36:09Speaker 1: have that fourth pick and let's say they're in line
- 36:11Speaker 1: to get a top quarterback that they really like, what
- 36:14Speaker 1: Bill has to do? I think you see some control.
- 36:18Speaker 1: I think on the person else.
- 36:20Speaker 6: Side terrified of him making that pick.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Terrified, but he that's my point, he wouldn't be making
- 36:26Speaker 1: the pick.
- 36:26Speaker 4: What are you more terrified of him making the pick
- 36:28Speaker 4: or him coaching the player that he picks.
- 36:30Speaker 6: Both, especially because it's it should be an offensive player,
- 36:34Speaker 6: and him.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Him picking the quarterback or coaching the quarterback make it
- 36:39Speaker 4: more specific.
- 36:40Speaker 1: I don't know, he didn't do such a bad job,
- 36:43Speaker 1: you know, coaching Tom Brady.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Oh, I'm serious, Right, it was a young guy.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Who I just think that guy's gone, like in terms
- 36:51Speaker 6: of Bell, Like, I just think that that coach is gone.
- 36:54Speaker 6: And I also like, if you're drafting one of these
- 36:56Speaker 6: young quarterbacks now, like you have to these guys are
- 36:59Speaker 6: different cats, Like we see. We just talked about it
- 37:00Speaker 6: with Caleb Williams and like if you're not, like, it's
- 37:04Speaker 6: just a different thing, like he rode Brady like you,
- 37:07Speaker 6: I just don't think you can do that with today's athlete.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I did.
- 37:11Speaker 4: In retrospect, I kind of think that I don't know,
- 37:13Speaker 4: maybe Brady deserves a little more credit for his development
- 37:16Speaker 4: than we gave him at the time.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I don't know, Brady is Brady, but I mean even
- 37:21Speaker 1: Brady says, no, he helped me.
- 37:24Speaker 4: I mean, I think he's the best coach who's ever
- 37:26Speaker 4: done it. I'm sure he helped him.
- 37:27Speaker 8: Right, It's almost like you'd like him in a consultant
- 37:30Speaker 8: role just to like provide his depth of knowledge of
- 37:33Speaker 8: the game, you know, but on a day to day
- 37:35Speaker 8: kind of basis of handling the person and figuring out
- 37:38Speaker 8: what buttons to push.
- 37:39Speaker 4: It's hard.
- 37:40Speaker 8: I mean I watched a little Mike McDaniel micd up
- 37:42Speaker 8: on the sidelines and like, as much.
- 37:43Speaker 1: As he's that was wild.
- 37:45Speaker 5: But man, it's like talk about just an absolute polar
- 37:48Speaker 5: opposite human being god than Bill Belichick, And I mean,
- 37:51Speaker 5: like there's more than one ways to coach a football team.
- 37:53Speaker 4: But it's just.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Clearing when in the middle of the game and he
- 37:56Speaker 1: goes up to one of the linesmen, you know, the
- 37:58Speaker 1: chain gangs, like I almost wore that vest today and
- 38:01Speaker 1: he's got the red vest.
- 38:02Speaker 5: It sounds on the sidelight, like what are you doing
- 38:05Speaker 5: cracking jokes in the middle of the game.
- 38:06Speaker 8: Well, he met the reps and he's like, good, firm
- 38:08Speaker 8: handshake and eye contact from.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Both of you.
- 38:10Speaker 4: I appreciate that.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Like he's just such a.
- 38:12Speaker 1: You're giving me respect. That's why you guys are great.
- 38:15Speaker 6: Like I know, it's it's I know, I like it.
- 38:20Speaker 4: Do you think it's real? Do you think it's authentic?
- 38:21Speaker 8: I kind of do, Like I mean, I mean, I
- 38:25Speaker 8: was gonna bring up Dan Campbell a different way, but
- 38:27Speaker 8: I don't know. I've seen enough of it now that
- 38:29Speaker 8: it just seems like this is who he is constantly.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I think it is. I think it's authentic.
- 38:32Speaker 4: I think you're probably right, and I do find it
- 38:35Speaker 4: refreshing because I thought you made a good point just now,
- 38:37Speaker 4: just about there's a lot of different ways to have
- 38:39Speaker 4: success coaching. You don't have to, like, you know, sleep
- 38:42Speaker 4: in your office for you know, eighteen hours in every day.
- 38:46Speaker 4: But I just wonder sometimes with those guys, and I
- 38:49Speaker 4: think if you're true to yourself, I think the players.
- 38:52Speaker 5: They can tell that.
- 38:53Speaker 4: They figure out if you're trying to be something you're not.
- 38:55Speaker 4: I think that's been a problem for the Belichick coaching tree.
- 39:00Speaker 1: It was certainly a problem with McDaniels when he went
- 39:02Speaker 1: to Denver. You know, he tried to be Bill and
- 39:05Speaker 1: right down to the twirling of the whistle in the hoodie.
- 39:08Speaker 4: And that was a big thing for Maddy p and Detroit.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 39:11Speaker 4: You know, he's like chastising the media.
- 39:14Speaker 8: And I just I think what stands out to me
- 39:16Speaker 8: is he just doesn't take himself that seriously. And I
- 39:18Speaker 8: feel like everyone in this place takes.
- 39:20Speaker 5: Themselves very seriously, and you better take them seriously too.
- 39:23Speaker 8: And that's how it's going to be at all times,
- 39:25Speaker 8: you know, And it's just it's kind of disarming when
- 39:27Speaker 8: you see an NFL coach that's like that, but then
- 39:29Speaker 8: is also respected because he's pushing the game forward offensively.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Now he's becoming as they've gotten better, he's becoming more
- 39:36Speaker 1: and more loose. So I think I think he's he
- 39:39Speaker 1: feels more free to be himself. But I think this
- 39:41Speaker 1: is who he is. If they were losing, I think
- 39:44Speaker 1: he'd be a little bit more reserved, only because you know,
- 39:47Speaker 1: I better watch myself.
- 39:48Speaker 8: Yeah, no, I agree, I agree, But he's he's a character.
- 39:52Speaker 5: See him next week.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it. I like I'm not one of
- 39:56Speaker 1: these people that, oh he's you know, that's not how
- 39:59Speaker 1: I head coach would be.
- 40:00Speaker 5: No, I listen, how do you feel about Miami's chances
- 40:03Speaker 5: right now overall, like in the in the playoffs?
- 40:06Speaker 4: Like you know what I mean?
- 40:06Speaker 5: How would you kind of?
- 40:10Speaker 9: Hell?
- 40:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they're I mean, obviously every team deals
- 40:15Speaker 4: with that to a huge extent. But obviously the history
- 40:18Speaker 4: of their quarterback would worry me. Sure, but that's a
- 40:23Speaker 4: team that I think that the seating is going to
- 40:27Speaker 4: be huge for it if they play, If they play
- 40:29Speaker 4: in Miami. I don't think you're slowing that team.
- 40:31Speaker 8: That's exactly the point I was going to with there,
- 40:33Speaker 8: just you know, with a reasonable they gotta go to
- 40:35Speaker 8: Hello in January though, or now even last year they
- 40:39Speaker 8: they went up to Buffalo in that playoff game and
- 40:41Speaker 8: they lost a shootout with Skyler Thompson.
- 40:43Speaker 4: So that's a I mean, that's a pretty good offense.
- 40:47Speaker 1: All right, let's go to Allen, Wisconsin. What's up, al?
- 40:52Speaker 13: Hey, how you guys doing?
- 40:54Speaker 1: Okay?
- 40:56Speaker 13: Hey, before I make my point, right, are you giving
- 40:59Speaker 13: then hazard pay for having to rewatch these games over
- 41:02Speaker 13: and over again?
- 41:03Speaker 1: Oh? He loves it, he does.
- 41:05Speaker 6: Those are two fair points.
- 41:06Speaker 13: Now, But yeah, my my main point was about Bill
- 41:14Speaker 13: and whether he would be let go during the season,
- 41:16Speaker 13: And I got to say, like, as a fan, I
- 41:19Speaker 13: don't really care if he's let go during the season
- 41:22Speaker 13: or not. But what would really help me out is
- 41:27Speaker 13: just a sense from ownership of where we're going in
- 41:30Speaker 13: the future, Like if he's not going to be the coach,
- 41:33Speaker 13: just let us know, Hey, we're playing this out and
- 41:37Speaker 13: then we're moving on. Because as long as there's not that,
- 41:40Speaker 13: there's always going to kind of be that sinking feeling that, yeah, oh,
- 41:46Speaker 13: we might just go forward with this.
- 41:49Speaker 1: No, I hear yeah, I in terms of wanting to know,
- 41:51Speaker 1: but what team has ever announced that going to be
- 41:54Speaker 1: getting rid of a coach before the day that they
- 41:57Speaker 1: actually do it.
- 41:57Speaker 4: They are completely late.
- 41:58Speaker 5: You know, it's just it's nothing. They say, he's gonna
- 42:00Speaker 5: have any weight at all.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Right, he can't do that, you know. But I hear you.
- 42:04Speaker 1: I mean, we're all anxious, but I hear you know, yeah.
- 42:07Speaker 5: You just got to watch the games and see, you
- 42:09Speaker 5: know what happens. I mean, the previous caller, what could
- 42:11Speaker 5: he do?
- 42:12Speaker 1: I mean, win games?
- 42:13Speaker 5: You win games this year.
- 42:14Speaker 8: I don't think it comes down to what can he
- 42:15Speaker 8: do in the draft, Like by the time we get
- 42:17Speaker 8: to that point, a decision already.
- 42:18Speaker 1: But even Teddy Bruski, who you probably won't find a
- 42:21Speaker 1: bigger fan of Bill Belichick, what does he hope for
- 42:24Speaker 1: for Bill Belichick? He hopes that he turns it around,
- 42:27Speaker 1: wins some games, and then walks away.
- 42:29Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I mean it would be it would
- 42:32Speaker 8: be a good way to go out if if it
- 42:34Speaker 8: does that, he pulls out a couple upsets games that
- 42:36Speaker 8: we haven't seen in the last couple of years, you know,
- 42:38Speaker 8: so you know, maybe you pull something out of your
- 42:40Speaker 8: butt down in Miami and you knock off the Dolphins
- 42:42Speaker 8: and you hold him a certain amount of points and
- 42:44Speaker 8: you know you're able to squeak one out and you know,
- 42:46Speaker 8: like those we're not going to the playoffs, but I
- 42:49Speaker 8: think there are still some things that you can at
- 42:50Speaker 8: least try to end it on a high note.
- 42:52Speaker 4: So if you had, if you were going to split
- 42:53Speaker 4: these two games, Buffalo Miami.
- 42:55Speaker 5: This one for I'd say they get this one and
- 42:57Speaker 5: they no, which one would.
- 42:58Speaker 4: You rather have?
- 42:59Speaker 1: Rather have Buffalo Buffalo?
- 43:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Buffalo.
- 43:02Speaker 4: I would take the Miami I mean in Miami shutting
- 43:05Speaker 4: down that.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Oh, I think it's a better win. But I think
- 43:08Speaker 1: I just want to beat Buffalo. They kick and I
- 43:11Speaker 1: hate I hate both teams, and I don't want to
- 43:14Speaker 1: lose to the Jets at home. We got to win
- 43:17Speaker 1: that game.
- 43:18Speaker 4: That'd be the one you pick out of the three.
- 43:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm with friend, I mean really, yeah, I mean they.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Could be one and much I would much rather upset,
- 43:26Speaker 4: Like I don't look at it.
- 43:28Speaker 6: Well because I like, I don't winning games against Buffalo
- 43:32Speaker 6: Miami to one end.
- 43:33Speaker 4: Right, like to one end, I keep freak going right perfectly.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Let's be sixteen in a row. You don't want to
- 43:43Speaker 1: break the streak.
- 43:44Speaker 6: You don't want to break the streak.
- 43:45Speaker 5: But I think even if they if they were like
- 43:47Speaker 5: one and fifteen going into that last Jets game, it's like.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Juice, like, let's go, and what does he do to them? Like,
- 43:55Speaker 1: let's just say that they continue winning and like they're
- 43:58Speaker 1: kind of you.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Know, Rogers on this like this whole new thing with
- 44:02Speaker 4: the latrosh surgery, you know, but he thinks he's going
- 44:06Speaker 4: to have a chance.
- 44:07Speaker 1: Al's gone. But let's just say I don't.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Know about that game. I mean in January.
- 44:11Speaker 1: Let's just genuine let's just say they're fighting for the
- 44:14Speaker 1: life and we still beat.
- 44:15Speaker 5: Oh and if you killed the Jets, like you only
- 44:17Speaker 5: win two games, But I don't think it's the Jets.
- 44:19Speaker 4: That you hold them out of the playoffs, that would
- 44:21Speaker 4: do nothing for me, a.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Lot for me.
- 44:23Speaker 6: I agree, the other two teams we held the Jets
- 44:26Speaker 6: out of the players.
- 44:26Speaker 4: The two teams own me. Yeah, I want to I
- 44:29Speaker 4: want to stop that, stop it stopping that.
- 44:31Speaker 1: We'll do that next year. We'll take care of that
- 44:32Speaker 1: next year.
- 44:33Speaker 5: You can't let the streak in to be sure, I'm
- 44:35Speaker 5: not like pitching. I'd rather beat the Jets than these
- 44:37Speaker 5: two teams, like it means nothing, but I just.
- 44:39Speaker 6: You know, event doesn't mean nothing. At least they have
- 44:42Speaker 6: dominance over something still.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Right, right, you don't want to let them up off
- 44:46Speaker 1: the mat.
- 44:47Speaker 4: No, I think it just continues a lot of negative numbers.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Damn, I don't know. Sixteen in a row, that's positive.
- 44:54Speaker 4: Number to me, you know, not when that's the only
- 44:56Speaker 4: team you be.
- 44:57Speaker 1: It's okay at least at least.
- 45:00Speaker 4: That at least that going with ten games under five hundred,
- 45:03Speaker 4: twenty games under it. If you take the Jets.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Out and let's just say that, let's just say this
- 45:07Speaker 1: is it for Bill. His last win was against the Jets, right,
- 45:11Speaker 1: he would want that too.
- 45:13Speaker 4: If it's his last game, that that I would probably
- 45:17Speaker 4: go to.
- 45:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I was kind of thinking that as well.
- 45:19Speaker 4: If it's his last game then he coaches in the NFL.
- 45:22Speaker 4: I think I would like him to go out with
- 45:23Speaker 4: a win.
- 45:24Speaker 5: He wants something on the line for the Jets too, though, right, Like,
- 45:26Speaker 5: you don't want that to be just.
- 45:27Speaker 6: Oh yeah, like nineteen when the Dolphins like beat the
- 45:31Speaker 6: Patriots to knock him out of the first round. By
- 45:33Speaker 6: maybe the Patriots knocked the Jets out of the playoffs.
- 45:36Speaker 6: Bill wins his last game against the Jets. The of
- 45:39Speaker 6: it that I would that's like almost like another Super Bowl.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Joseph San Antonio, Hey, Joe points, I like it.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Joe, thank you, thank you for taking my call. I'm
- 45:53Speaker 3: gonna be a reef as I can. So yesterday I
- 45:57Speaker 3: try to get an emailing. Unfortunately he didn't get talked about.
- 46:01Speaker 3: But I cannot help to see the similarities as a
- 46:08Speaker 3: franchise of the Spurs and the Patriots, with the runs
- 46:13Speaker 3: that we have had here in San Antonio and the
- 46:16Speaker 3: paths up there, and the similarities of the coaching style
- 46:19Speaker 3: of Pop and Bill. So right now I'm seeing in
- 46:24Speaker 3: real time how the arch has come from the Spurs,
- 46:30Speaker 3: moving on from the victory and the down. And we
- 46:33Speaker 3: haven't won a championship here since twenty fourteen, and now
- 46:37Speaker 3: that we got Wemby, you know, things are looking on
- 46:40Speaker 3: the up and up and with the right future. So
- 46:43Speaker 3: basically my point is that yes, Bill has missed on
- 46:47Speaker 3: a lot of picks, There's no question about it. And
- 46:52Speaker 3: probably Mac is not the guy but I'm simply just
- 46:55Speaker 3: not ready to give up. I'm bill after for losing seasons.
- 47:02Speaker 3: Uh uh theoretically like that, because like I said, I'm
- 47:06Speaker 3: seeing it in real time what a little bit of patience,
- 47:10Speaker 3: uh can do to kind of like correct the the Yeah.
- 47:16Speaker 1: But the only thing I would say, Joel, I hear
- 47:19Speaker 1: what you're saying. But in basketball, one guy can make
- 47:21Speaker 1: a difference, you know, and and it's less of it.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Coaches make less of a difference in the NBA than
- 47:28Speaker 1: in football in my opinion.
- 47:31Speaker 3: You know, but we're talking about two goals, right, the
- 47:34Speaker 3: golden basketball the golden football.
- 47:37Speaker 4: And I don't think you have. I don't think you
- 47:38Speaker 4: guys have the golden basketball.
- 47:40Speaker 6: You think that's the wrong thing to say in this town, Joel,
- 47:46Speaker 6: True that red.
- 47:47Speaker 3: Hour back might have something to say about.
- 47:49Speaker 6: That, thank you.
- 47:49Speaker 4: As much as I don't like Phil Jackson, I'd put
- 47:51Speaker 4: Phil Jackson light years ahead of him too.
- 47:54Speaker 3: And it's and it's just that, you know, just after
- 47:57Speaker 3: four years of losing, Yeah, I mean, it sucks, really sucks.
- 48:01Speaker 3: The team look like that. But I'm just not ready
- 48:04Speaker 3: to to give up just yet.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Okakay, all right, We've we've heard from more people like you.
- 48:10Speaker 4: It's in the last day or two, which is good.
- 48:11Speaker 4: I like some balance.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Exactly, thanks Joe.
- 48:14Speaker 6: I'm with Fred said it spot on, though, like Wemby
- 48:17Speaker 6: could change is if he's as good as everybody thinks
- 48:19Speaker 6: he is, that whole franchise flips. The Spurs also won
- 48:22Speaker 6: with Kawhi Leonard as like their best player, like Duncan
- 48:25Speaker 6: was at the end. Yeah, you know, he was at
- 48:27Speaker 6: the end of his run there and Kui was the
- 48:29Speaker 6: m v P of the finals.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Well I want another one. Yeah, outside, so that didn't
- 48:34Speaker 4: that's again another market.
- 48:36Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't know history.
- 48:40Speaker 4: This victor Okay, he was the number one overall pick.
- 48:44Speaker 6: I want to make sure was he he dunked the
- 48:49Speaker 6: other day from like the free throw line without jumping.
- 48:52Speaker 4: It was unbelievable. You see the the l he had
- 48:55Speaker 4: in one of those. Yeah, it wasn't even the guy
- 48:57Speaker 4: who's the past that. It wasn't an So he just went.
- 49:02Speaker 6: But then he like he has like handles though, like
- 49:06Speaker 6: you know, he's like seven to three and he can dunk.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Like that perimeter game.
- 49:09Speaker 6: But the peri Yeah, it's like Durant is like kind
- 49:12Speaker 6: of the closest thing I can think of. But he's
- 49:14Speaker 6: taller than Duran.
- 49:15Speaker 4: He is taller.
- 49:16Speaker 6: Tim's in Providence Center. They play whatever position.
- 49:23Speaker 1: To Tamara is not here. She's away.
- 49:25Speaker 4: Evidently she just gets time off out of town the
- 49:28Speaker 4: middle of the season.
- 49:29Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 49:29Speaker 4: Okay, she was.
- 49:31Speaker 1: The only last week, h Tim.
- 49:35Speaker 14: Everybody thought I was Ken.
- 49:36Speaker 4: Oh sorry, because it's written on them just Ken.
- 49:42Speaker 14: I'm actually from Massachusetts, but you guys thought I had
- 49:45Speaker 14: a Rhode Island actor.
- 49:47Speaker 15: Ken.
- 49:48Speaker 1: But you're living in Providence right.
- 49:51Speaker 14: Work down here?
- 49:52Speaker 1: Okay, all right, it's just just chatting or do you
- 49:54Speaker 1: have a one of what? What are we doing?
- 49:58Speaker 14: I sent a message guys thought about this.
- 50:02Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:04Speaker 14: So I actually don't think the Patriots, you know, presuming
- 50:06Speaker 14: they're going to have a high draft pick, I think
- 50:08Speaker 14: if they're not going to have the first, which they're
- 50:11Speaker 14: probably not going to have because you know, Carolina is
- 50:13Speaker 14: offl so Chicago's going to have that pick, and if
- 50:15Speaker 14: they're not going to have the second pick, a third pick,
- 50:19Speaker 14: and I'm presuming that those top two quarterbacks are going
- 50:22Speaker 14: to go there, I actually think they should pass on
- 50:25Speaker 14: a quarterback in the first round. And and get alignment
- 50:30Speaker 14: is actually what I think they should do. I mean,
- 50:31Speaker 14: I just think when you look at the free agents
- 50:35Speaker 14: that are available twenty twenty four.
- 50:37Speaker 16: For linemen and the problems they're having and heems to
- 50:40Speaker 16: all stem from there that I think in the risk
- 50:44Speaker 16: of taking a quarterback in the first round, I just
- 50:46Speaker 16: think back to all the first round quarterbacks that have
- 50:48Speaker 16: been taken that haven't panned out, and I just think,
- 50:53Speaker 16: you know, that's what they should be doing, is looking
- 50:55Speaker 16: for key pieces and then keep drafting quarterback in the second,
- 51:00Speaker 16: third round and hope they've put enough pieces around in
- 51:03Speaker 16: the in the upcoming grass of the line and the
- 51:05Speaker 16: wide receiver position to give a kid a chance, because
- 51:09Speaker 16: I can't just keep drafting kids and then putting them
- 51:12Speaker 16: in terrible positions.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Yep, now, I hear you. I mean, Okay, So let's
- 51:16Speaker 1: say they have fourth or fifth pick and the quarterback
- 51:21Speaker 1: they love is gone. I could see them trading down
- 51:25Speaker 1: and I wouldn't be screaming bloody murder if they did it,
- 51:29Speaker 1: you know, but you have to yeah, not too far,
- 51:32Speaker 1: you know, down toward the lower middle of the first
- 51:35Speaker 1: round and picking up an extra second or more, and
- 51:40Speaker 1: as long as they pick the right players, you know, there's.
- 51:43Speaker 5: Always good players to be found.
- 51:44Speaker 8: I just I'm scared of that, like you know, five
- 51:46Speaker 8: to ten range where And I mean Evan's made some
- 51:49Speaker 8: good points about this, like go up, go up, like
- 51:52Speaker 8: if you need if you know the guy and you
- 51:53Speaker 8: want the guy. I mean, talk to Paul about when
- 51:56Speaker 8: the Patriots drafted Drew Bletzoe. It turned everything around, you know.
- 51:59Speaker 1: Not that they had to go up and get them,
- 52:00Speaker 1: but that's tough when it's a quarterback because if the
- 52:03Speaker 1: other team wants a quarterback, yeah, that's there, you know,
- 52:06Speaker 1: like why are they going to give that up?
- 52:09Speaker 8: You know, but I do think it's gonna and I
- 52:10Speaker 8: mean I haven't even really touched the draft yet, but
- 52:13Speaker 8: you know they need a lot. I mean and as
- 52:14Speaker 8: much as team would go crazy about, you know, drafting
- 52:17Speaker 8: to tackle over a quarterback that you're kind of like
- 52:20Speaker 8: like Mac about.
- 52:20Speaker 4: I'm just gonna be upfront and tell you I would
- 52:22Speaker 4: go crazy if.
- 52:23Speaker 5: They took a tackle on the top. Well what would
- 52:25Speaker 5: you take though, Like I mean, just I mean we're
- 52:26Speaker 5: talking abstract here.
- 52:28Speaker 8: If there wasn't a quarterback or why Marvin Harry really
- 52:31Speaker 8: if there wasn't a quarterback or Rock Powers but not
- 52:35Speaker 8: on defense.
- 52:36Speaker 4: Oh, I mean, if so, you'd rather have like a linebacker.
- 52:39Speaker 4: If it's like a Micah Parsons type guy on defense,
- 52:42Speaker 4: I'd be you know, I just don't know if that
- 52:44Speaker 4: exists right now. I'm sure there's really good players. I'm
- 52:47Speaker 4: not a college football expert. I like to watch a
- 52:49Speaker 4: lot of games. I don't do so with an eye
- 52:52Speaker 4: toward who's going to be you know at the top
- 52:54Speaker 4: of the you know, a lot of a lot of
- 52:56Speaker 4: people do that.
- 52:57Speaker 6: Fortunately, it's becoming my job earlier than usual.
- 52:59Speaker 9: You know.
- 52:59Speaker 4: I I like to just kind of watch the games
- 53:01Speaker 4: and enjoy them for the games without necessarily say, oh,
- 53:03Speaker 4: is he coming out, or is he is he eligible
- 53:05Speaker 4: for the draft? Whatever. If it was like a Micah
- 53:09Speaker 4: Parsons kind of defensive player who can sort of inject
- 53:14Speaker 4: and all kinds of life into your into your defense
- 53:16Speaker 4: right away, sure, But otherwise all the suggestions that Evan
- 53:20Speaker 4: had about skill guys, I would I'd be looking at.
- 53:23Speaker 6: You can do your Micah Parsons on your own time.
- 53:26Speaker 4: I want all your I want all your options first.
- 53:28Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I hear you.
- 53:29Speaker 4: I Marvin Harrison. Yes, So there there's.
- 53:32Speaker 6: Really three quarterbacks that are going to go I think
- 53:35Speaker 6: in the top ten. And obviously Caleb Williams and Drake
- 53:38Speaker 6: Mayer the first two, and I think Pennix from Washington
- 53:41Speaker 6: is going to go top ten as well. So those
- 53:43Speaker 6: three guys I think are all better than you know,
- 53:45Speaker 6: talent wise. Like I always hate when people are like, oh,
- 53:48Speaker 6: that guy is better already than Mac Jones. It's like
- 53:50Speaker 6: he's never played it down in the NFL, Like you
- 53:52Speaker 6: don't know that, but he's he's more physically gifted than
- 53:57Speaker 6: Mac Jones.
- 53:57Speaker 4: That's not that's easy to see.
- 53:58Speaker 6: Yeah, And so those three guys are are the quarterbacks.
- 54:02Speaker 6: I'm gonna butcher his name, but Olo Fushanu is the
- 54:06Speaker 6: is the tackle, and then Joe alt is the other tackle.
- 54:09Speaker 6: Like those are the two tackles that are gonna be
- 54:11Speaker 6: up near the top. And then obviously you have Harrison
- 54:15Speaker 6: and and Brock Bauers, who are like the two skilled players.
- 54:17Speaker 6: And like that's I just named like seven guys, like
- 54:21Speaker 6: that's kind of your top ten, Like you know, you're
- 54:23Speaker 6: the defensive players in this draft are not getting nearly
- 54:26Speaker 6: as much buzz as those guys.
- 54:28Speaker 8: The gross thing, too, is I took like a little
- 54:29Speaker 8: just Lookie lou at at free agency and just like
- 54:33Speaker 8: what the free agency class looks like. And it's like, oh,
- 54:35Speaker 8: like you're not You're not going to rebuild your team
- 54:38Speaker 8: in free agency.
- 54:39Speaker 4: The year to draft, the year to get a free
- 54:42Speaker 4: agent tackle was last year. Like there was some there
- 54:46Speaker 4: was some good tackles available in free agency, some you know,
- 54:49Speaker 4: some of them high priced guys like o'lando Brown, but
- 54:52Speaker 4: some of them, you know, middle tier guys. Yeah, and
- 54:55Speaker 4: Color McDermott they weren't they weren't interested in and.
- 54:59Speaker 1: H it's Christian and Alabirth. Is this Chris with a tia.
- 55:03Speaker 17: N Yes, Yes, that's me. Thanks for taking my call.
- 55:07Speaker 17: I wanted to ask you guys about Magro because I
- 55:11Speaker 17: feel like there's been a lot of reports in the
- 55:12Speaker 17: past weeks, even like I don't know, I guess year
- 55:16Speaker 17: where he's seemed like he has more say than what
- 55:20Speaker 17: most people think he does. And so with I think
- 55:23Speaker 17: there was a thing about Malie Cunningham he has to
- 55:27Speaker 17: saying that Bill O'Brien said, and then twenty twenty two
- 55:29Speaker 17: draft and then the Trent Brown incentives this year. How
- 55:34Speaker 17: much do we trust Magro moving forward with this team
- 55:37Speaker 17: as a gm.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Well, did he draft Cole Strange? Yes, I don't know.
- 55:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know.
- 55:44Speaker 8: I think we were at a place maybe the last
- 55:46Speaker 8: year where we were like, just let mac Row do it.
- 55:49Speaker 5: And you know, the draft picks haven't worked out. They
- 55:52Speaker 5: haven't panned out. This I mean, Christian Gonzalez fell in
- 55:54Speaker 5: your lap, but otherwise you haven't really picked what you needed.
- 55:57Speaker 5: So I don't know, I don't know.
- 55:59Speaker 4: I h I like when the guys are done with us.
- 56:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree. I'm glad that the caller brought up
- 56:05Speaker 6: Macro because I feel like he's been absolved of blame
- 56:10Speaker 6: for all of this because Bill is Bill, and everybody
- 56:13Speaker 6: just assumes that everything is every decision is made it
- 56:16Speaker 6: is by Bill, and I don't necessarily disagree with that.
- 56:19Speaker 6: But at the same time, like I I do hold
- 56:23Speaker 6: a little bit against Macro that he's not a little
- 56:25Speaker 6: bit more.
- 56:27Speaker 1: A report that Macro has more power than.
- 56:32Speaker 8: Yesterday, they asked Bill O'Brien about the Molik cunning the
- 56:36Speaker 8: Malik Cunningham elevation, and Bill O'Brien said that was a.
- 56:38Speaker 15: Matt and Bill thing.
- 56:40Speaker 8: So I think you said it, Bill O'Brien yesterday said
- 56:42Speaker 8: that was a Bill and Matt thing. As far as
- 56:44Speaker 8: promoting Milie Cunning, Okay, I think maybe he was extrapolating
- 56:47Speaker 8: a little.
- 56:47Speaker 4: Bit, right, Like making a decision to sort of elevate
- 56:50Speaker 4: a guy from the practice squad isn't necessarily he has
- 56:53Speaker 4: more power than you think. Like, whose decision was it
- 56:56Speaker 4: to say we didn't need to tackle in free agency?
- 56:59Speaker 4: Bill belichicks, this is what ends up happening traditionally when
- 57:04Speaker 4: things are going bad. Now, we haven't had a lot
- 57:06Speaker 4: of these because things haven't gone bad all that often
- 57:09Speaker 4: in twenty years, but when they do, personnel wise, this
- 57:11Speaker 4: is what happened. You know, it's not just all Belichick.
- 57:14Speaker 4: You know, it's not all Bell. But but those same
- 57:17Speaker 4: kind of anonymous guys are quick to point out when
- 57:21Speaker 4: like they draft Nikkill Harry, that it wasn't the scouts
- 57:24Speaker 4: that identified Nikhil Harry. It was Bill who overruled the scouts, right,
- 57:28Speaker 4: And he went to his college, his college coach buddy
- 57:32Speaker 4: Todd Graham, and said, oh, yeah, this is the guy.
- 57:34Speaker 4: He's a three down guy, he could be a four
- 57:36Speaker 4: down guy for you and contributing the kicking game, and
- 57:38Speaker 4: blah blah blah, all the scouts are very quick to
- 57:40Speaker 4: cover their you know what's that way. But when it's
- 57:44Speaker 4: something that you want to sort of trumpet in the
- 57:46Speaker 4: positive way, you know, it's not all Bill, Right, Bill,
- 57:49Speaker 4: I think a lot of this is going on right now.
- 57:53Speaker 4: Everybody either wants credit for the things that are going
- 57:55Speaker 4: well or wants to separate themselves from blame from anything
- 57:58Speaker 4: that's not.
- 57:59Speaker 1: You know, because all these guys are looking for the
- 58:01Speaker 1: next Yet.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Yes, they're all concerned about.
- 58:04Speaker 6: That, and like I'm like less worried about like who's
- 58:08Speaker 6: doing what and whose like responsibility is what? Then I
- 58:13Speaker 6: am like Macro. I know that Macro recognizes the way
- 58:19Speaker 6: that the game is played nowadays, Like I know he
- 58:21Speaker 6: sees the trending in a certain direction. I know that
- 58:27Speaker 6: he sees the value in number one receivers. I know
- 58:30Speaker 6: that he sees the value in offense. And like I
- 58:32Speaker 6: hold it against him that he didn't stand up to
- 58:34Speaker 6: Bill Moore, like you have to go in to every
- 58:37Speaker 6: once in a while, you got to tell the boss, hey, listen,
- 58:40Speaker 6: like this isn't gonna cut it, and like if you
- 58:42Speaker 6: think it is, then like that's on, that's on you.
- 58:45Speaker 6: But like this isn't.
- 58:46Speaker 1: But who drafted Taekwon Thornton.
- 58:49Speaker 6: I'm not saying that Macro is. I'm I'm blaming Macro
- 58:52Speaker 6: like I.
- 58:54Speaker 4: Deserves more blame, yes, but for not speaking up and
- 58:59Speaker 4: just in general talking about.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Who the choice, who made the choice?
- 59:02Speaker 4: Yeah, but and I think he has I think he
- 59:05Speaker 4: has the final say and everything.
- 59:07Speaker 6: And then then add that to the like add that
- 59:08Speaker 6: to the Macro list. Like to me, I feel like
- 59:11Speaker 6: Macro deserves more criticism, whether you want to blame him
- 59:15Speaker 6: for evaluating talent in the draft or you want to
- 59:17Speaker 6: blame him for not, you know, sticking up to Bill
- 59:20Speaker 6: a little bit more. I at the end of the day,
- 59:23Speaker 6: like your name is on the team too. So if
- 59:26Speaker 6: you're you're looking at it and you tell me and
- 59:29Speaker 6: you tell the reporters, you know you want to draft
- 59:32Speaker 6: fast guys. You know want fast guys, draft fast guys.
- 59:35Speaker 6: You want you know, what's the number one receiver, Macro?
- 59:37Speaker 6: It's a guy that gets open no matter what. Do
- 59:40Speaker 6: you have one? Not really? So like why not? Like
- 59:45Speaker 6: you're the director of player personnel, Like you're telling us
- 59:48Speaker 6: in the in training camp that you're spending money now
- 59:52Speaker 6: that you know you're you're talking to us after the
- 59:55Speaker 6: the draft instead of Bill, So why not why why
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: don't they have a you know, better talent on offense?
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: And I think it's and I also would put it
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: on and Cam Williams because like you're the younger guys here,
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: Like you're the guys that are supposed to be able
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: to scout, you know, offensive talent. You're the guys that
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: are like I was at Boston College's pro day with
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: Cam Williams and watching Zay Flowers and they didn't care,
- 1:00:23Speaker 6: like they they didn't care, and it just so what's
- 1:00:27Speaker 6: the disconnect there?
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so that's a good one though, because you
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: ended up hitting on that pick. So that's you know,
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: you're gonna look at that down the road. You would
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: you rather have Zay Flowers? Well, Christian Gonzalez, why not both? Well,
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: now you're talking about a different argument though.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: But it's just like they they don't they have no
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: sense of urgency whatsoever with upgrading the offense.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Now, my answer would have been Zay Flowers, by the way.
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: Yeah, that's but it doesn't like regardless, it's just they
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: just have no sense of urgency. So you're telling me that,
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: all right, by the time they got to their pick
- 1:01:02Speaker 6: in the second round, there was no wide receiver tackle
- 1:01:05Speaker 6: word taking, So why did you stay there?
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: And does draft Keon White, who's a great point is fine,
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: but like, isn't gonna really move the needle.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: And just in full disclosure, I would not have said
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: Zay Flowers at the draft. I would have said Gonzales, Yeah,
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: but because I wasn't a huge believer in Zay Flowers.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: But I'm just looking at the first half of this year,
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: I look like I'm wrong.
- 1:01:28Speaker 9: No.
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: I mean, my concerns about him were size, so we'll
- 1:01:31Speaker 4: see how he holds up. But the guy can.
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I think I would have been happy with either pick, right,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: I knew more about Zay Flowers at the time. From
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: what I've seen from Christian Gonzales, I'm perfectly happy that
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: they draft.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: You know, I am too, And I don't know how
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: you cannot think that they at least have a promising
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: player here.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Me too.
- 1:01:48Speaker 6: It's just the lack of Like I love Christian Gonzazi,
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: all know that, but it's just the lack of urgency.
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: Whatever avenue you want to talk about, the draft, free agency, uh,
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: you know, trades, whatever. They just have no urgency to
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: like truly upgrade the offense. And I have to think
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: that that that's everybody is culpable in that, in my opinion.
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Fair enough, Mark sin Everett, what's up?
- 1:02:13Speaker 9: Thank you, Freddie to take away a call.
- 1:02:15Speaker 18: I appreciate it.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Sure.
- 1:02:17Speaker 18: And you guys know I.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: Grew up whatever with PAULI.
- 1:02:19Speaker 9: So we've seen some bad Patriots teams, and this is
- 1:02:21Speaker 9: a bad Patriots team. But uh, you know, I'm glad
- 1:02:24Speaker 9: you brought up mac Roll, Billy O'Brien, Troy Brown. There's
- 1:02:27Speaker 9: a lot of coaches out there that the responsible for
- 1:02:29Speaker 9: what we see on the field week to week. It's
- 1:02:32Speaker 9: not just Bill. And I wouldn't want to give up
- 1:02:34Speaker 9: Bill unless I knew who was coming in his place,
- 1:02:37Speaker 9: even though he isn't a Marvel Levy here now. And
- 1:02:39Speaker 9: maybe it is typing to go, but we have to
- 1:02:42Speaker 9: be careful who's we're going to bring in and under
- 1:02:44Speaker 9: all that pressure that they're going to come in with,
- 1:02:46Speaker 9: it's gotta be someone who's really confident and knows what
- 1:02:48Speaker 9: they're doing, wouldn't you Green?
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Oh? Absolutely? You know, you know everybody wants that next
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: young guy. But unless that young guy has already been
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: a head coach. You're taking a big risk.
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: But I'm Robert Kraft and I've decided that Bill is
- 1:03:01Speaker 4: no longer the best guy for the job. Then I
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: need to move on, and I have to hope that
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: I get it right. Right, Like, I don't just say
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Mike is going to be a better experience guy. I
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: don't think that guy I have right now is working.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: I need to make a change. I don't have any guarantees. Listen,
- 1:03:16Speaker 4: the guy who replaces him is going to work for.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: The same reason that Bill started looking in twenty fourteen,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: because of his age and his contract status with Brady.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: I hope that the Crafts are because of Bill's age
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: and his status. That's a big part that they've been
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: doing their research. And if it happened today, they would
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: know the three guys or four guys who they want
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: to target.
- 1:03:38Speaker 4: And just out of point of comparison, the last guy
- 1:03:40Speaker 4: that the Crafts fired was Pete Carroll. Has he done
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: since pretty good? Anybody regret it?
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: Pretty good? Nope?
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: Nope, because you got a guy who was better, right, So,
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: like you, you just have to make the move. And
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: obviously there's no chance of that happening with Belichick. You know,
- 1:03:57Speaker 4: coming into next year, he'll be seventy two. He's not
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: going to have a twenty year career like Pete Carroll
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: has had.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: All right, Thanks, Mark, appreciate the call. Paul's foods here,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: so we got to take a break. When we come back.

- 1:05:10Speaker 15: joined by Faith Rorell, a recurring guest of the show.
- 1:05:13Speaker 20: Yes, I keep getting it brought back.
- 1:05:16Speaker 15: Okay, Faith, So the Patriots have put me and many
- 1:05:20Speaker 15: other people in a bad mood. And so this episode
- 1:05:23Speaker 15: for trivia and for the topic are going to be
- 1:05:26Speaker 15: not that Patriots focus because me, like a lot of people,
- 1:05:29Speaker 15: I need a break. So Trivia, don't answer the questions.
- 1:05:33Speaker 15: We're gonna take this to the movies, all right. Paul
- 1:05:36Speaker 15: likes this. Question one in the Longest Yard two thousand
- 1:05:41Speaker 15: and five with Adam Sandler, what was the final score
- 1:05:45Speaker 15: of the game? All right, meme Machine versus the Guards?
- 1:05:48Speaker 15: The final score?
- 1:05:50Speaker 20: Good question?
- 1:05:51Speaker 15: Question two in the movie Remember the Titans, What was
- 1:05:57Speaker 15: the game winning play?
- 1:05:58Speaker 20: Call?
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: All right?
- 1:06:01Speaker 15: Question three in two thousand and six in the movie
- 1:06:05Speaker 15: Gridiron Gang, which air quotes actor played as the assistant coach.
- 1:06:10Speaker 15: All right, the air quotes, there is your your little
- 1:06:13Speaker 15: uh clue, little hint, yeah hint. But Faith, as I
- 1:06:17Speaker 15: said earlier, the Pats have been pissing me off. Sorry,
- 1:06:19Speaker 15: I think I can say that. So we're gonna talk
- 1:06:21Speaker 15: about whatever he likes to talk about, including the guys
- 1:06:23Speaker 15: on unfiltered NFL jerseys all right, and one team made
- 1:06:27Speaker 15: a big return to the jersey scene with the Tampa
- 1:06:31Speaker 15: Bay Buccaneers debuting the return of the Creamsicle Yes jerseys
- 1:06:35Speaker 15: first time since twenty twelve, and Nike knocked it out
- 1:06:38Speaker 15: of the park with these.
- 1:06:39Speaker 20: I know you think, but I was a big fan
- 1:06:41Speaker 20: of them. I really liked them. I was excited too
- 1:06:43Speaker 20: for the Vikings Classic to come back. Yeah, kind of simple,
- 1:06:46Speaker 20: but I liked what they did, at least in content
- 1:06:48Speaker 20: to promote it. I love fun jerseys, like the more
- 1:06:52Speaker 20: the better, the more the better, keep it interesting. I
- 1:06:55Speaker 20: mean the Eagles doing like their green, the Kelly Green. Like,
- 1:06:59Speaker 20: I just think the more you have, the more you're
- 1:07:01Speaker 20: gonna get fans engaged. Obviously fans are gonna want to
- 1:07:03Speaker 20: buy it. Like I think we should do more city
- 1:07:06Speaker 20: jerseys similar to baseball and stuff. I feel like that
- 1:07:09Speaker 20: would be sick. But yeah, A big fan of the
- 1:07:11Speaker 20: Bucks too.
- 1:07:12Speaker 15: It uh yeah, I mean it just reminds me back
- 1:07:15Speaker 15: in nine it was like the something anniversary of the
- 1:07:17Speaker 15: AFL and every team had two throwbacks and they had
- 1:07:21Speaker 15: them like three times and like most of them were.
- 1:07:23Speaker 15: Like the Pats had our throwbacks, which I love those,
- 1:07:26Speaker 15: by the way, It's the only thing I love about
- 1:07:27Speaker 15: the team right now. But we had the white ones.
- 1:07:30Speaker 15: Those was great. They wore those a couple of times.
- 1:07:33Speaker 15: You had the Reds, the Titans were wearing the Oilers jerseys,
- 1:07:37Speaker 15: and you know, I mean faith we've been struggling as
- 1:07:40Speaker 15: Pats fans. Minus last year we brought back the Reds.
- 1:07:43Speaker 15: The uh, it hasn't been great. It's not the team
- 1:07:46Speaker 15: with one one pair of pants, the one pair of
- 1:07:49Speaker 15: pants team. You know, last year we saw the silver
- 1:07:52Speaker 15: Pants come back and that was a disaster for that game.
- 1:07:55Speaker 15: Don't want to get into the sorry'm gaining salfty right now,
- 1:07:57Speaker 15: getting worked up inner, Evan. But then the uh, you know,
- 1:08:03Speaker 15: you just see teams like the Chargers, and I mean
- 1:08:06Speaker 15: last night they they played a close and with the Cowboys,
- 1:08:08Speaker 15: or the Cowboys were in their throwbacks too, but I
- 1:08:11Speaker 15: mean my favorite jersey right now, and the Chargers don't
- 1:08:14Speaker 15: really have a throwback anymore. They just have the Powder Blues. Yeah,
- 1:08:17Speaker 15: the Navies, okay, or I'm against us in twenty twenty yeah,
- 1:08:21Speaker 15: or maybe it was twenty twenty or maybe it was
- 1:08:23Speaker 15: a Max rookie year. And I think those are like
- 1:08:26Speaker 15: the cleanest jerseys.
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: I like them.
- 1:08:28Speaker 20: I like them. I think like anytime you've got the
- 1:08:31Speaker 20: All Navy. I'm not a fan of white football pants.
- 1:08:34Speaker 20: I'm not a fan of the white pants. I feel
- 1:08:36Speaker 20: like the All Navy is a nice look. I even
- 1:08:38Speaker 20: I mean, I hate to give a shout out to
- 1:08:40Speaker 20: the Bills, but I like they're all red. I'm a
- 1:08:42Speaker 20: fan of the red.
- 1:08:42Speaker 15: See I think they're too close to our reds.
- 1:08:45Speaker 20: Well yeah, I mean we basically have the same red
- 1:08:47Speaker 20: other than obviously we have different blues. But I don't
- 1:08:50Speaker 20: know what are your thoughts on the Seahawks all Neon green.
- 1:08:53Speaker 15: How do you feel like? I don't really like is
- 1:08:55Speaker 15: it so ugly it's good? Or is it just kind
- 1:08:58Speaker 15: of I'm thinking like the early like you know, twenty
- 1:09:00Speaker 15: tens when they when they debuted it. But what I
- 1:09:02Speaker 15: do like about the Seahawks, which I don't think they
- 1:09:04Speaker 15: wore them yet, is there bringing back their nineties ones?
- 1:09:08Speaker 15: I never saw those in person, or like, yeah, I
- 1:09:12Speaker 15: was too young to watch those, but that was from
- 1:09:14Speaker 15: the Bosworth days. I'm it was the bas Yeah, like
- 1:09:18Speaker 15: they have theirs also, Yeah, so the Greens. It's fun
- 1:09:23Speaker 15: because you know why not. That's the thing. That's why
- 1:09:25Speaker 15: the NFL is so strict about this, because you only
- 1:09:28Speaker 15: have so many games, you gotta wear the classic jerseys.
- 1:09:30Speaker 15: I'm sure the contracts with Nike and stuff, but yeah,
- 1:09:33Speaker 15: the more the merrier, I mean. Also give a shout
- 1:09:36Speaker 15: out to the Giants. Yeah, those the throwback helmet with
- 1:09:40Speaker 15: like the old Giants, Like yeah, yeah, it is just
- 1:09:44Speaker 15: the way to do it. I hope. I mean it's funny.
- 1:09:47Speaker 15: I used to love when the Pats wore the color Rush, like, yeah,
- 1:09:50Speaker 15: it was fun.
- 1:09:51Speaker 20: Color Rush was a cool thing.
- 1:09:53Speaker 15: But now it's too much. Yeah, it's like it's like
- 1:09:55Speaker 15: it's now it's like this is our jersey and I'm
- 1:09:56Speaker 15: like no, Like this was fun to where everyone. Thank go,
- 1:10:00Speaker 15: Brady got to wear it once.
- 1:10:01Speaker 20: But have you seen I know in the pro Shop
- 1:10:04Speaker 20: they sell black mac Jones jersey, Like do.
- 1:10:07Speaker 15: It, just do it?
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: I would love it. I'm black.
- 1:10:09Speaker 15: You can't go as a as a former soccer player,
- 1:10:12Speaker 15: and like, so soccer teams they change jerseys literally every year,
- 1:10:17Speaker 15: and they they'll do special there's so many games will
- 1:10:19Speaker 15: do special edition jerseys. Yeah, you get all black, like
- 1:10:22Speaker 15: it always look clean.
- 1:10:25Speaker 20: Yeah, I think it would be fun. I mean I
- 1:10:27Speaker 20: just think like fans love it, like it's fun to watch.
- 1:10:30Speaker 20: Like I don't know, I like I there was one
- 1:10:32Speaker 20: time on the show that I do that we were
- 1:10:34Speaker 20: talking about just matchups that look nice, and I'm thinking
- 1:10:37Speaker 20: like Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles, like you've got the
- 1:10:40Speaker 20: teal and the black, then you've got the purple and gold.
- 1:10:43Speaker 20: Like I don't know for people, especially like now, there's
- 1:10:46Speaker 20: a lot of Swifties that watch football. You know, you
- 1:10:48Speaker 20: gotta watch an aesthetically pleasing matchup.
- 1:10:50Speaker 15: Yeah, jerseys are great and also look good, play good, every.
- 1:10:55Speaker 20: Good, feel good exactly.
- 1:10:57Speaker 15: I'll never forget it was the Jets. I think it
- 1:10:59Speaker 15: was Bobby Anderson a couple of years ago before they switched.
- 1:11:02Speaker 15: It was like I didn't even get it. I mean,
- 1:11:05Speaker 15: first of all, on the Jets back in the day,
- 1:11:07Speaker 15: I didn't even get it. Cited to uh put on
- 1:11:10Speaker 15: the jersey. Yeah, I think they got The Jets have
- 1:11:13Speaker 15: the green, the legacy one which Aaron Rodgers got heard in.
- 1:11:16Speaker 15: Sorry about that, and they have the blacks. Still at
- 1:11:20Speaker 15: least they have options, like we like we wore the
- 1:11:22Speaker 15: whites for the first time the season. Yeah, and like
- 1:11:25Speaker 15: we can't even I know you said you don't like
- 1:11:27Speaker 15: the white pants, but I mean even like you know,
- 1:11:29Speaker 15: an all white look would be fine, just something like
- 1:11:33Speaker 15: even just from a from a content standpoint, like the Jags,
- 1:11:36Speaker 15: like every.
- 1:11:36Speaker 20: Thoughts on the Bengals the whites. The whites are giving
- 1:11:41Speaker 20: zebra I have to admit.
- 1:11:42Speaker 15: But that's the thing you were at once a year
- 1:11:44Speaker 15: and it's like a special occasion.
- 1:11:46Speaker 20: Yeah, I like, what was it Whatever game they had
- 1:11:50Speaker 20: last year was in the snow with the white That
- 1:11:53Speaker 20: was good. I think, like all like all of that
- 1:11:55Speaker 20: white was nice. With the jerseys, I think.
- 1:11:57Speaker 15: All right, so before we wrap up, give me your
- 1:12:01Speaker 15: top three jerseys oh in the league. And also before
- 1:12:05Speaker 15: I do this, I forgot to mention on the trivia guys.
- 1:12:08Speaker 15: This was for the game the game day posters, which
- 1:12:11Speaker 15: are sick. Yeah they're they're sick, guys, even though you
- 1:12:14Speaker 15: know the pasts aren't doing too well right now, Like
- 1:12:16Speaker 15: these artists went all out. They look really cool. Collect them.
- 1:12:20Speaker 15: They're limited edition. So the trivia for today is the
- 1:12:24Speaker 15: posters send those answers in the web. Radio at Patriots
- 1:12:27Speaker 15: dot com. But faith, give me your top three NFL
- 1:12:30Speaker 15: jerseys and I'll go real quick too. Then we'll go
- 1:12:32Speaker 15: back to the show.
- 1:12:32Speaker 20: Oh okay, all right, So I really like the Carolina
- 1:12:37Speaker 20: Panthers colors. So I like when they're wearing black and
- 1:12:40Speaker 20: you get they get like the sky blue color. So
- 1:12:44Speaker 20: I'll go with that as one. The Vikings Classic is nice.
- 1:12:49Speaker 20: I'll go with as two. And then I hate saying it,
- 1:12:54Speaker 20: but I like the Jets, like rebranding, like I'm kind
- 1:12:56Speaker 20: of a fan of their just like they're green with
- 1:12:59Speaker 20: like the your logo and stuff.
- 1:13:02Speaker 15: Got those three, all right, I'm going with the Chargers
- 1:13:06Speaker 15: powder blue. Yeah, throw the Navy in there too. Just
- 1:13:09Speaker 15: Chargers know what they're doing.
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: They do.
- 1:13:11Speaker 15: Ah, it's tough. It's pretty similar. I'm a loop loop
- 1:13:17Speaker 15: put these two together. I'm gonna go with the Eagles
- 1:13:19Speaker 15: all black and the Ravens all black. I just think
- 1:13:21Speaker 15: they're very similar to the Birds.
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: Yeah, and.
- 1:13:25Speaker 15: The Pats, the Pats red, Pats red, I love them.
- 1:13:29Speaker 20: I love the Royal blue.
- 1:13:33Speaker 15: All right, guys, thank you for listening. We'll be back
- 1:13:35Speaker 15: to the Patriots and built it.
- 1:13:39Speaker 21: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, replacements
- 1:13:45Speaker 21: were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:13:47Speaker 21: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:13:51Speaker 21: now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: History.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: And neither was anybody saying that Cole Strange can't play.
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: But they say he struggled as a rookie and he
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: was overdrafted Paul, and that's a bad pick.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Some people say it's a bust. Yes, it's not a bus.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: Year one was a bust.
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: That's not what I just said.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: And you know it, Okay, Well, what do you think
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: is going to happen. I don't think he's gonna end
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: up being like a first round but I.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: Think I think it's just as stupid to say I
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: know he's gonna be a pro bowler as I know
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: he's going to be a bust. Same way with Marcus Jones.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: It's not just as stupid to say the second part,
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: because he was a bust in year one. He wasn't
- 1:14:31Speaker 4: anywhere near a force.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: So he wasn't a bust.
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: He was fred Oh, come on for one year. Like,
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: I'm not saying that ends his story as a player.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: I didn't say, you said, but.
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: In year one, he was in and out of the lineup.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Dude to performance and like the emailer said, we knew
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: he was going to struggle.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: No, I didn't. I don't pick first round picks as
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: plug and play guys that I know are going to struggle.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Listen, listen.
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: Then it's a bad pick.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: It's not.
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: One of the two has to be true.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Well, we'll know it's a bad pick in a few years,
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: but right now he can't say.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: This is my whole thing about offensive Lineman. It's not
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: why you can get away with taking offensive lineman because
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: no one will ever call him a bust.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: You just did.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: I will, but no one.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Paul is the only one.
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: Now now he's going to completely change the narrative of
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: this argument. Be snarky, make fun of me. Everybody laughs
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: at him, and then we'll use people. Do not declare
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: offensive Lineman as readily bust you as Nikhil Harry. You
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: are not on It was Nikhil Harry a bust. You
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: was Nikhil Harry a bust? Okay? Was it okay to
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: call him the bust after one year?
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: No?
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: Okay, it was not consistent.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Tell you it's not okay.
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: What do you think he's going to be cold, strange.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: I think he's going to be a fine NFL player.
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: Okay, I don't.
- 1:15:45Speaker 15: Okay, that's another great moment from.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: Oh boy, Why is every one of those great moments
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: in pf W history whatever? Like me and you just
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: bickering to a little.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: Because we're the oldren. We're the only ones that have
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: you know what it takes, clearly what takes.
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: I clearly won that one.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: Well we'll see, but right now you're trending in the
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: right direct.
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: My larger point, which you always ignore, is no one
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: calls offensive line because as long as they're in the line.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Well that's true.
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: I say a win was a bust.
- 1:16:17Speaker 8: It's just hard, not productive. They're not catching balls. It's
- 1:16:21Speaker 8: so easy to look at a wide.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: Receiver like he Ki Harry, everybody sorry, like he didn't
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: catch passes, nobody, he's a bust.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Well, I don't think. I don't think any guy that's
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: picked in the first round after one year to call
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: him a bus No, I agree generally, any I don't
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: care what is it.
- 1:16:36Speaker 4: No, I think you deserve three years to sort of
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: make a final determination. But I think people will look
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: at wide receivers and say like Taekwan Thowton, he's headed
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: toward bus category, right, But they won't do that for
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: an offensive lineman in the in the middle of the
- 1:16:51Speaker 4: second year, as long as he's playing.
- 1:16:53Speaker 5: Yeah, well, ain't playing, so.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: All right, show within a show, halftime pee, whatever you
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: want to call it. We did some trivia, gave away
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: some T shirts. The first question was in The Longest
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: Yard two thousand and five film with Adam Sam what
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: was the final score?
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: Didn't see? Didn't see? Did they change the game?
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I don't know the original Longest the Prison Show movie, right, yeah,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: it's the same move remakes. Burt Reynold, Yeah, Burt Reynolds, right, Yeah,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: what did you say, Paul?
- 1:17:29Speaker 4: I wanted to say, like thirty three to thirty.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Close, thirty six, thirty five, thirty six, thirty Tyler in
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Providence got it. Good, Good job, Tyler. Second question was
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: what was the game winning play called? And remember the Titans?
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: Oh, gosh, I don't know, Sunshine.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: I remember fake twenty three blast with a backside George reverse.
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't know that, but I did ask Bill
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: Belichick about that.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, what.
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: Do you mean you asked him about the word? Remember
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: the Titans movie.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I had much of menish. The trivia question, well,
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: the winner was the story time.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: The winner was Jake from Saint Louis.
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: Good job, Jake.
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: And the final question was in the two thousand and
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: six movie. I'm sensing a theme here. In the two
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: thousand and six movie grid Iron Gang, what actor and
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: that's in quotes played as the assistant coach.
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: I didn't know what that movie is.
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: I didn't see Grid Iron Gang. What was it?
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: What actor played as the assistant coach? And actors and
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: quotes so not to be like an actual player, and
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: I don't even know. The answer is exhibit, Oh exhibit
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: is that a rapper or something?
- 1:18:36Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: I think okay. And the winner was Anthony Taylor.
- 1:18:39Speaker 4: No relation to Fabulous.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: Good job Anthony. I don't know if it's Anthony in
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: Taylor or Anthony Taylor, but either way, good job.
- 1:18:46Speaker 4: Oh Freddie.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: The other ones that had the where from?
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: So remember the Titans was like northern Virginia, you know,
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: early seventies, I'll say mid seventies, maybe early seventies, so
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: that's around where Bill grew up, you know, Innapolis area.
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: And I asked him, so, you know, I assume that you're.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: I bumped into him and the elevator in a road game.
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: That's how long ago, small talk time, Yeah, And I said, hey,
- 1:19:17Speaker 4: I wanted to ask you something. I assume that you're
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: familiar with Herman Boone, you know, the coach that they
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: made the movie. He goes, oh, yeah, he was. He
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: was a big deal in high school. Circle is a
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: really big deal. And I said, so, please tell me
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: that it was. They used a little Hollywood license and
- 1:19:34Speaker 4: they didn't run the ball for seventy five yards for
- 1:19:37Speaker 4: the last play of the game for the winning touchdown.
- 1:19:40Speaker 4: And he started, he had no idea, but it was
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: just like one of those deals, like, that's good, Paul.
- 1:19:47Speaker 5: You know we're having well.
- 1:19:50Speaker 4: I've had I've had my share. I've had my fair
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: share of those. A little cold today, huh yeah. But
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: I just thought that maybe he would know a little
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: bit something about the the actual season and how much
- 1:20:01Speaker 4: Hollywood took.
- 1:20:03Speaker 15: Start breaking it down for you.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: What they did was, hey, guess who just stepped back
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: from some place we don't have We don't have the sound,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: no sound right, too many you sing.
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: The song that's too many buttons Evan.
- 1:20:22Speaker 4: But has returned if you're gonna I hate when they
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: get the words wrong.
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: This is this is all right?
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: What do we got, Evan?
- 1:20:31Speaker 6: A little bit of a train anyways? Uh, A little
- 1:20:34Speaker 6: bit of a lengthy list still of absences at Patriots practice. No,
- 1:20:39Speaker 6: Jonathan Jones, Kean White Hunter, Henry josh j, and Trent
- 1:20:44Speaker 6: Brown all missing from practice. We did see a juju
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: Juju Smith Schuster returns to practice. But yeah, those what
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: five guys? Yep, Jones, Kean, White Hunter, Henry josh J,
- 1:20:58Speaker 6: Trent Brown.
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: Juj not there return. Okay, Yeah, he was concussed.
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: Now he is not.
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: I'm glad he's not concussed anymore. In all since here.
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: Well that's h Trent Brown though, huh yeah, no, Trent Brown.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: He'll be back.
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: Yeah, he'll be fine. I agree to a.
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: Million reasons for him to be back, right, Hunter, Henry,
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: that's a that'd be a significant one too.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: So sixty one degrees out me, Yeah, nice day, nice day,
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: pretty much the same weather we're going to have Sunday.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Is that.
- 1:21:29Speaker 8: I've been keeping a close track on that because my
- 1:21:30Speaker 8: wife and kids are going to the game, and it
- 1:21:32Speaker 8: seems like cloudy and kind of cool. But maybe maybe
- 1:21:34Speaker 8: a little bit of chance of rain, but it doesn't
- 1:21:36Speaker 8: seem like any anything too crazy.
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: Yeah, how was the media?
- 1:21:41Speaker 6: You know what? A lot of a lot of disappointment
- 1:21:44Speaker 6: around the media right now.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: And I think that this is something you disappointed in
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: them or they they're disappointed, just.
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: You know, general just disappointment.
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: I didn't sign up to cover this team.
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I think a lot of people and I know
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: that Paul shows get this a lot that oh, you
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: must be happy that they're losing, Like no, like this
- 1:22:02Speaker 6: is kind of this is the total opposite. Like you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: obviously it's a little bit different for us, but.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: It's the dirty little secret of the media.
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: And just in general, Like if there's if they're not winning,
- 1:22:12Speaker 6: there's no interest in the team, And if there's no
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: interest in the team, nobody's reading your stuff. So whether
- 1:22:17Speaker 6: it's like because you have a little rooting interest or
- 1:22:20Speaker 6: it's because you just want people to pay attention to
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: the team, either way, losing stinks for everybody.
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: It can work in a short term, but it is
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: absolutely a dirty little secret in the media, especially on
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: the radio. I think people would be shocked to find
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: out how much, you know, my shows care about wins
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: and losses in that regard because it's tough on ratings.
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: I wonder, I mean, but we've seen engagement like people
- 1:22:45Speaker 8: want to call. I mean every time they post something
- 1:22:47Speaker 8: I write, it's like, you know, people are just yelling
- 1:22:50Speaker 8: at you.
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: But I mean it's still engaged.
- 1:22:52Speaker 8: Like I just wonder, we're five games or six games
- 1:22:55Speaker 8: into the season, whatever is it going to sustain that
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: or people going to start And.
- 1:22:59Speaker 6: I agree one hundred per time with Paul, Like that's
- 1:23:01Speaker 6: what Paul I think is saying, is that, Okay, we
- 1:23:03Speaker 6: can do the hysteria thing for a couple of weeks,
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: but once we get to December, you know it's gonna
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: be old talking about how bad they are every single day.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Well, I think that's gonna be intrigue. Yes, in what
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: this off season is going to look.
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: If let's just say they go five and twelve, you know,
- 1:23:20Speaker 4: just pick a record and then Bill ends up no
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: longer being the coach, we will have a ridiculously successful
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: offseason of shows for us. Oh yeah, selfishly, we will
- 1:23:31Speaker 4: have a tremendous amount of interest leading up to whoever
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: they hire. In the aftermath of who they hire, the draft,
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: and what they're going to do how they're going to
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: remake the team, and it's going to lead us all
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: the way from February to training camp. We will have
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: no problems engaging our listeners.
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: So it's going to be the search firm of Barth Lazarre.
- 1:23:53Speaker 22: So you know, good, good law firm. Now, the only
- 1:23:57Speaker 22: thing about that is that will work this year. Go
- 1:24:01Speaker 22: five and twelve again, people stay because you probably got
- 1:24:05Speaker 22: a new quarterback and you got some newness. Do it
- 1:24:08Speaker 22: a third time and they say, yeah, all right, I
- 1:24:11Speaker 22: got other things to do.
- 1:24:12Speaker 5: With my name.
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: You can't lose consistently without losing fans.
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Travis in West Virginia writes in at web radio at
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: Patriots dot com just to offer an alternative opinion. I
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: don't like watching Josh Allen play. I think that style
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: of play is boring and I can't wait until defenses
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: in general wise up and learn how to prevent quarterbacks
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: like him from having success when they roll out of
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: the pocket. Also just figure it out also intellectually. Josh
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Allen is the male version of Jessica Simpson.
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: Okay, oh, I thought that's my favorite Jessica Simpsons. I
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: think I'm sure it's the same guy too. That does
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: it every time.
- 1:24:53Speaker 6: Triots fan Josh Allen's I mean, I look, I don't
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: know how you can. I think his playing style is boring.
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: The guy plays balls on the wall every week.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: I think he's really being serious. Yeah, I mean the
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: side of Mahomes. I don't really think there's a more
- 1:25:11Speaker 4: exciting guy to watch.
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: I would say Mahomes is probably a little bit more
- 1:25:15Speaker 4: because he's he's faster.
- 1:25:16Speaker 6: He's better, and he's better.
- 1:25:18Speaker 15: Yeah, and he's just like.
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: But I don't know how you could not like watching.
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: I mean, aside against your team.
- 1:25:25Speaker 8: It's maddening to watch when you're rooting for the defense
- 1:25:27Speaker 8: and you're like, we got him, we got him, we
- 1:25:29Speaker 8: don't got him.
- 1:25:29Speaker 9: That.
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: I mean, that just happens way too much.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: Burton, Burton Island has a complaint to me, he said
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: Fred this past Thursday during Picks, I did not detect
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: the usual paper rustling when you skipped over the Patriots game.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: It may seem like a small thing, but actually it
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: is things like this in these forlorn football times that
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: your faithful listeners want more than ever that's not want
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: with an oh, things like Gottahari and ahoy ploy and
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: when Evan returns from practice, I most definitely need to
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: hear Fred ask about the mood, and there was any
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: grousing thank you for your service Patriots Nation in these troubling,
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: troubling times.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: Attention to detail.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: So we're still on practice. Were they in pads?
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: Yes, pads on Wednesdays has been a theme, yep. But
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: don't look too much into Tuesdays, Fred Tuesdays or just Mondays.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: Yeah, so they say it, so they say.
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: But yeah, Wednesdays or Wednesdays padded practiced today and big
- 1:26:28Speaker 6: emphasis on you know, early down offense and defense and
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: that sort of thing. Goal line, red zone type stuff too,
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: a little bit, but yeah, big emphasis on first and
- 1:26:40Speaker 6: second down on Wednesdays.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: I think they've figured out on Tuesday how to get
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: an extra pat practice in.
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, and that's why I asked you off
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: air if like that is something that they have to
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: sort of run by the players sort of the CBA
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: on that one.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Yeah. So anyway, eight five five past five hundred Radio
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: at Patriots dot com. Lots of emails. I really appreciate it,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: some of them silly, some not. This is a silly one.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: The decline of the Patriots can be attributed to one
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: exact moment in time, the twenty nineteen celebration for the
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: Patriots last Super Bowl victory, when Rob Gronkowski used the
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Lombardi Trophy as a baseball bat in dented it, angering
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: the football gods.
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: Oh, maybe we could get one of those like things
- 1:27:25Speaker 5: where you like pull it out, you know, like on
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: a card dent.
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: Ye reverse, the curse was that the one?
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: I thought it was before that.
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: For some reason, I thought it was before too. But
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: I do like those kinds of I think I think
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: it might have been the fifty one one. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: because there was at Fenway Park.
- 1:27:40Speaker 15: It wasn't here.
- 1:27:41Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it was the one he didn't even play
- 1:27:43Speaker 5: for that.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: That little video that we put up in twenty four
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: hours had two point four million views. Oh yeah, indent
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: indent it he did? Right?
- 1:27:53Speaker 5: Oh yeah, no, I've seen it.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: I've seen it. Yeah. Michaels and Vermont. What's up, Michael, Michael? Michael?
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: Are you in Vermont? He's not there? All right, We'll
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: go to Jesse in New Bedford. What's up, Jesse?
- 1:28:09Speaker 18: Hey?
- 1:28:09Speaker 10: What's up?
- 1:28:10Speaker 18: Guys?
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Hey Jesse, Hey.
- 1:28:12Speaker 10: How you doing. I'm gonna kind of talk to you
- 1:28:15Speaker 10: guys about something. I came across something about X where
- 1:28:18Speaker 10: I know everybody's down a mac. I know Evan, which
- 1:28:21Speaker 10: I'm surprised that embraced the tank the other day. But
- 1:28:23Speaker 10: I got a little things to compare with you guys,
- 1:28:25Speaker 10: if you hear me out for a second. Yeah, Now,
- 1:28:28Speaker 10: everybody was saying the same thing about Tua three years ago,
- 1:28:32Speaker 10: and I'll give you the comparison they had. They had
- 1:28:37Speaker 10: They had DeVante Paka as his number one receiver, He
- 1:28:40Speaker 10: had Mike Hesecki as his tight end coach, Flores New
- 1:28:45Speaker 10: England head coach as his head.
- 1:28:46Speaker 18: Coach, Chadow Say was his OC.
- 1:28:49Speaker 10: What did they do as the media, the fan base
- 1:28:52Speaker 10: wanted to his head. They said he was gobbage, he
- 1:28:54Speaker 10: was a bus What did they do the audience? He
- 1:28:57Speaker 10: fires Flores, he brings in Mike McDaniels, he brings into
- 1:29:02Speaker 10: he drafts buattles, they bring in Tyreek Hill, and all
- 1:29:06Speaker 10: of a sudden he's an MVP candidate. So there's no
- 1:29:09Speaker 10: way nobody can't tell me you cannot do that with
- 1:29:12Speaker 10: Mac Jones. Where when they asked Jalen Wattle and the
- 1:29:14Speaker 10: Vonte Smith who they were to have as a quarterback.
- 1:29:17Speaker 10: Before he can even finish the question, they said, Mac Jones,
- 1:29:20Speaker 10: I'm not saying he's playing great scene you can you
- 1:29:23Speaker 10: can win this off. He can, he can elevate everybody.
- 1:29:27Speaker 10: But he can do what Tua is doing. I know
- 1:29:30Speaker 10: that for a fact.
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: You don't know it for a fact because you've never
- 1:29:33Speaker 4: seen him do it.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: But I haven't seen him do it.
- 1:29:36Speaker 10: But I'm comparing it with Tua.
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: Everybody is going, so I'll compare apples to apples with Tua.
- 1:29:41Speaker 4: They were both at Alabama together with all kinds of talent,
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: and Nick Saban didn't think it the way you do.
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: And Brian Flores. Brian Flora's lost faith in Tua because
- 1:29:50Speaker 4: he couldn't stay healthy and kept removing him from games.
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: There's a difference between everybody wanted his head. That's not
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: what happened. He couldn't stay on the field.
- 1:29:59Speaker 10: But you you can't. You can't deny the similarities for
- 1:30:03Speaker 10: the two quarterbacks and the situation and the mentality of
- 1:30:06Speaker 10: the media and the fan base.
- 1:30:08Speaker 4: All I can tell you is that deny it. Even now,
- 1:30:10Speaker 4: there's a strong backing of mac Jones because he has
- 1:30:13Speaker 4: nothing around him in Miami. They were all over to
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: it because he couldn't stay healthy. No one ever said
- 1:30:20Speaker 4: what you're saying about Tua. They're saying that he's not
- 1:30:23Speaker 4: he's not the answer. He's too small, he's fragile. And
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: I still think a lot of those questions exist for Tua.
- 1:30:30Speaker 4: He's small, and he has a concussion history, and if
- 1:30:33Speaker 4: I was Mike McDaniel, that would worry me. But when
- 1:30:36Speaker 4: he's on the field and he plays, he's played well,
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: and that was before he got all those weapons he won.
- 1:30:43Speaker 10: All I'm saying is it just it goes a long
- 1:30:47Speaker 10: way for the coach and the owner to build around
- 1:30:51Speaker 10: your You've got to build a strength. Look what the
- 1:30:53Speaker 10: delut Lamar Jackson. They builds around his strength. If you
- 1:30:56Speaker 10: put Lamar Jackson and the Brady offense, everybody'd be calling
- 1:31:00Speaker 10: him a boss who would just be a little bit
- 1:31:02Speaker 10: different because he could run around a little bit and
- 1:31:04Speaker 10: make place. All I'm the saying is build around.
- 1:31:06Speaker 3: Your quarterback strengths.
- 1:31:07Speaker 18: That's what they do with Tuaus.
- 1:31:08Speaker 10: I'll look at him.
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: I like the spirited defense, Thank you, Jesse.
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: I don't disagree with like ninety nine percent of.
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: What I think they should build around them. Absolutely.
- 1:31:17Speaker 6: I just think that it's it's too far gone, like
- 1:31:21Speaker 6: the moment, like the time has passed to do that.
- 1:31:24Speaker 6: Like Tua was two years into his career and then
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: in year three they made all of these changes and
- 1:31:30Speaker 6: got them the weapons and got them. Mike McDaniel, you're
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: going into your fourth mac Jones. You have to make
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: a decision on his fifth year option. Then you're gonna
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: have to extend him. And like I just I think
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: that the leash has run out, like the rookie contract
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: and all these things that we talked about maximizing, the
- 1:31:46Speaker 6: leash has run out. So unless you're telling me that
- 1:31:48Speaker 6: you're gonna be able to do all of those things
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: in one off season, which Miami didn't do, by the way,
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: because they drafted Jalen Waddle first and then they traded
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: for Tyreek Kill the following off season. So now we're
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: talking about doing all these things in Max's fifth year option,
- 1:32:03Speaker 6: and we're talking about, well, if he plays while we're
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: paying him forty five million dollars a year, and then
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: what happens. So I just think that your your clock
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: has run out on trying to do it the two away,
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: which is the most disappointing.
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: Part, and I would agree like they should do more
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: to get more around Mac Jones.
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: Or the next guy.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Yep, oh yes, I'm all for trying to get better
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: on offense. I'm not arguing with that part of it.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: I'm just saying this, Like a lot of Patriots fans,
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: this Jesse in New Bedford is completely dismissing to his
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: role in their success. And I think that the guy
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: is pretty good. I think he is clearly better than
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: Mac Jones.
- 1:32:38Speaker 15: I agree.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: I think he was better than Mac Jones in college.
- 1:32:40Speaker 4: He's better than Mac Jones and the pros.
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: I agree one hundred percent.
- 1:32:42Speaker 8: I mean, I just I don't know why Tua has
- 1:32:45Speaker 8: this relationship. I think everything you said was true. Concussion
- 1:32:47Speaker 8: history certainly, but he's He's done more for me than
- 1:32:51Speaker 8: I've ever seen mac Dow with some of the passes
- 1:32:53Speaker 8: that he's made that just leave me shake in my head.
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: He's an excellent they have excellent weapons. It's just undeniable. Yeah,
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: Wattle Hill is an MVP guy. Wadle and Hill are tremendous.
- 1:33:03Speaker 4: They don't have a good offensive line. I mean, the
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: one guy they brought in for the offensive line really
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: hasn't played at trond Armsteed. He's been hurt. They brought
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: in Isaiah Win. That was the guy you couldn't wait
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: to get rid of.
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: I think you know Tua, Like I said, he's really
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: impressed me. The accuracy, the anticipation. I compare it a
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: little bit to Drew Brees. He's really done well. And listen,
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: look at what he did at Alabama. You know when
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts wasn't playing well in that championship game and
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: they put him in at halftime and he wins the
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: game for.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: Them as a freshman without having played.
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: That's that's that's big balls right there. I mean, I'm sorry,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: but that's that's something.
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: Now. We can all argue how good would mac Jones
- 1:33:48Speaker 4: be if he had weapons? And I think that's a
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: legitimate He would be bad conversation, and I think he
- 1:33:54Speaker 4: would be better.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:33:55Speaker 4: I don't think he would look like tour Yeah, I'm
- 1:33:58Speaker 4: not even sure he would look like Brock Purdy.
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, but he'd be better.
- 1:34:01Speaker 4: There's no doubt he'd be better.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: How good would he be though?
- 1:34:04Speaker 20: Is he?
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: Is he the guy that Evan says you want to
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: extend and pay forty five million dollars, And.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: That's the big question. Evan's got that that's what you're
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: gonna have to do, has like you have to figure
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: out what you're going to do down the road.
- 1:34:18Speaker 6: Now, I'm just worried that it could it be better?
- 1:34:21Speaker 6: Absolutely will it will be better. It would be better,
- 1:34:25Speaker 6: no doubt about it. But I I worry about like
- 1:34:28Speaker 6: the David Carr thing, like, have they just ruined him?
- 1:34:31Speaker 20: Right?
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: And at that point it could it will look better
- 1:34:34Speaker 6: because the playmakers will elevate him and make plays for him.
- 1:34:37Speaker 6: But is he ever going to be good enough to
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: get it to that next step? Or you know, can
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: he be put back together mentally physically, you know, his
- 1:34:46Speaker 6: his footwork, his processing, like his decision making, like.
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: His attitude right, everything that goes into it. Like I
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: think sometimes some quarterbacks are made to look better than
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: they are because they're just loaded with intangibles. And I
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: think his intangibles aren't great. You can't quantify it. But
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: I don't think that his handling of the adversity over
- 1:35:07Speaker 4: the last year plus now has been great. It's not
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: what you're looking for from your quarter The.
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: Sad thing about it is the one thing that they
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: said that he had in that quarterback class was the
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: pro readiness and you know the ability, you know, the
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: cerebral part of it. And I think, but we're not
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: seeing that.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: Oh no, I think that's what we're seeing.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: Happy feet under pressure and.
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: He's not down. Now that's physical.
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: But not surveying the field and that whole thing.
- 1:35:34Speaker 8: But I think broke back Mountain, Oh you blow it,
- 1:35:37Speaker 8: my my one chance.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: I just say, it's why you have to be like
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: Fred and practice in front of a mirror.
- 1:35:43Speaker 8: Paul appreciate, though, I mean with two of The funny
- 1:35:45Speaker 8: thing for me is like I just honestly had to
- 1:35:46Speaker 8: get used to watching him play lefty, like a lefty quarterback.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: Because we're gonna have Michael Pennance next year.
- 1:35:52Speaker 8: Like that like took on, like just it looks weird,
- 1:35:53Speaker 8: but somehow the ball is exactly where it needs to be.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: It's just it's it's crazy that that.
- 1:35:58Speaker 8: Video they have online where they flipped it and they
- 1:36:00Speaker 8: like put a mirror of him thrown right and looked
- 1:36:02Speaker 8: perfectly phenomal.
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: That blew my mind. Part of I do think that
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: what McDaniel has done McDaniels mc daniels, I think it
- 1:36:12Speaker 4: is very much catered to his skill set too, Like
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: it's one thing to have these great weapons, what's wrong
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: with that? But he I think that the things that
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: they accentuate in that offense are things that he does
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: really well. Yeah, and I don't think just anybody would
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: do it. I'm not telling you he's the only guy.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: He's not the most talented quarterback out there, not not
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: by a long shot. But I think that he's undersold
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 1:36:33Speaker 6: I just in his first two years in the league.
- 1:36:35Speaker 6: I never looked at Tua and said, oh, he's broken,
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: Like his footwork's all over, the decision makings all over
- 1:36:42Speaker 6: the place. He just consed he had he's yeah, he
- 1:36:45Speaker 6: had some durability issues and like physically he's not like
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: the cyborgs that I talk about, like the Allen's and
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: the mahomes Is and the Herberts, and so he didn't
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: have the talent around him, and he was kind of
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: just like you know, it just didn't It wasn't as
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: explosive or as dynamic. But I had never watched him
- 1:37:04Speaker 6: and thought, like, he doesn't know where to go to
- 1:37:06Speaker 6: the with the ball. His decision making is broken, Like
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: I those are the things that I see with Mac
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: right now that I don't think Tua ever got to
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: It just wasn't. It just had a ceiling with what
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: they had with Tua in the first couple of years.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Let's get back to the phones. We'll go to Michigan.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: Tony's there. What's up Tony?
- 1:37:25Speaker 23: Hey, guys, how are we doing?
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: Good time?
- 1:37:27Speaker 23: First time?
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: Thanks nice?
- 1:37:30Speaker 23: So wanted to I just had one kind of quick question. Okay,
- 1:37:35Speaker 23: brought up the more things to touch on, So just
- 1:37:37Speaker 23: kind of touching on what you guys are just talking about.
- 1:37:39Speaker 23: I do think Mac is ruined mentally now. And I
- 1:37:42Speaker 23: think it happened that night against the Bears, when you know,
- 1:37:47Speaker 23: the whole crowds cheering for is happy to come back.
- 1:37:49Speaker 18: In and to douce.
- 1:37:53Speaker 23: You know, are we having fun yet? How much fun
- 1:37:55Speaker 23: is this rebuild?
- 1:37:57Speaker 6: Okay, we can get we can move on.
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: I'm the only one I didn't.
- 1:38:01Speaker 8: I didn't think it was going to be I didn't
- 1:38:02Speaker 8: think it was going to be this miserable. I didn't
- 1:38:04Speaker 8: think it'd be this pleae.
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: But but hey, but hey, real quick, stop, real quick?
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: Are you are you?
- 1:38:10Speaker 5: Would you be excited new coach Top five pick?
- 1:38:12Speaker 15: Would that?
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: Would that be fun for you at all. Are you
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: gonna be miserable through that too?
- 1:38:15Speaker 23: Oh, I'd be with it. I'd be with a long
- 1:38:18Speaker 23: term rebuild too. I'm fine with being terrible for a while.
- 1:38:21Speaker 23: You know, at the time that they let Brady go,
- 1:38:24Speaker 23: I was kind of, you know, not that I wanted
- 1:38:25Speaker 23: Brady to go, but I was kind of with you
- 1:38:27Speaker 23: that it was you know, an exciting you know, let's
- 1:38:29Speaker 23: see what happened.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: He was actually with you.
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: It was with you.
- 1:38:34Speaker 23: Yeah. And I also I was the Anthony in Taylor
- 1:38:39Speaker 23: who won the trivia questions can confirm I'm not in Taylor.
- 1:38:44Speaker 23: I'm in Michigan.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: Okay, all right, well, big day for you.
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: Don't The last the actual question that I had was,
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: so do you think the current state of the team.
- 1:38:57Speaker 23: Is due to Bill thinking that he's actually making the
- 1:39:02Speaker 23: correct move to build a competitive team in the modern NFL?
- 1:39:06Speaker 23: Or the pressure from Robert to field a consistently competitive
- 1:39:12Speaker 23: team and get back to the playoffs kind of you know,
- 1:39:15Speaker 23: made Bill say, well, I'll just do all these stop
- 1:39:18Speaker 23: gap findings and these band aid veterans, and you know,
- 1:39:20Speaker 23: we're such we'll coach them up to be playoffs competitive.
- 1:39:24Speaker 23: But he actually knows thee down that this isn't a
- 1:39:27Speaker 23: team that's talented enough to compete, and so I'll just
- 1:39:30Speaker 23: leave it at that and take it off.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: Okay, it's a fair question. Like so his ownership, you know,
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: still in win now mode, and he's making moves to
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: try to appease that while also looking to the future,
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: or you know, to in spite of the future. I
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: don't know, you know, you know, like then why would
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: you draft a guard in the first round?
- 1:39:53Speaker 20: Right?
- 1:39:54Speaker 9: You know?
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: Why? You think? You know? Do you think? You know?
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: We don't know, obviously, But I'm asking what people think
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: that going into this season in training camp. Do you
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: think Bill said this is not a contender in his mind? No, No,
- 1:40:06Speaker 4: I think he felt like they could. I think Roberts'
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: comments in the off season would certainly indicate that they
- 1:40:11Speaker 4: felt they were better than most people thought they.
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: Were going to be.
- 1:40:14Speaker 4: Yep, right, So I don't I don't look at either
- 1:40:18Speaker 4: side of that. I think Bill obviously is seventy one
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: years old, he has some urgency to win, you know,
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: and Roberts in his eighties, you know, he probably would
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: like one more shot, yeah, you know, before he turns
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: it over to Jonathan. So I can understand both of
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: those guys still being in win now mode and it
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: just hasn't been a great rebuild from from Brady.
- 1:40:43Speaker 8: Yep, it's the draft picks and I mean it's just
- 1:40:45Speaker 8: I don't I mean, I think we have a lot
- 1:40:47Speaker 8: and there's a lot in this question.
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: I think it's good.
- 1:40:50Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, it was good to chew on, you know,
- 1:40:52Speaker 8: I mean I think some of it I almost connect to,
- 1:40:54Speaker 8: like Nikhil Harry of it all, where it's you know,
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: going with him over the AJ Browns or the debos
- 1:40:59Speaker 8: of the world, like that signifies the big guy and
- 1:41:02Speaker 8: what we want. And then you have the Edelman comments
- 1:41:04Speaker 8: of like he didn't look like a first rounder and
- 1:41:06Speaker 8: so it's you know, to me, I find in my
- 1:41:08Speaker 8: thought process going to like, was he too attached to
- 1:41:11Speaker 8: an old style and should he have been more had
- 1:41:16Speaker 8: more foresight into what direction the league was going and
- 1:41:19Speaker 8: has been going for a long time, frankly, you know,
- 1:41:21Speaker 8: and that they were able to, you know, as everybody says,
- 1:41:23Speaker 8: use the human spackle to kind of keep you in
- 1:41:25Speaker 8: those shootouts when they did happen against Kansas City, and
- 1:41:28Speaker 8: you know, you knew you had that gear in the
- 1:41:29Speaker 8: back pocket because you had Tom. But you know, really,
- 1:41:31Speaker 8: if you stuck another quarterback in there, would you have
- 1:41:33Speaker 8: really had that gear in those games?
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Like you know, maybe you would have won other games
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: where you're able.
- 1:41:37Speaker 8: To tough guys out and we're running over them and
- 1:41:40Speaker 8: those kind of things. But you know, I think that
- 1:41:42Speaker 8: that's what it really boils down to. As much as
- 1:41:44Speaker 8: Tom covered up a lot, I think it really came
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: to the forefront when you got in those games where
- 1:41:47Speaker 8: you had to score a lot of points and.
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: He just went perserved. But in terms of the rebuild
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: that he was talking about. You know, I remember before
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: Tom left, but toward the end we would have the discussion.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: People would say, Brady Lee, you're gonna suck, and we're like, maybe,
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: but it doesn't have to be that way. You know,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: when you lose your best quote that you don't have
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: to suck there, you know, you there is it the
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: other alternative road that you go down where you're okay,
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: like you not as good as you were when you
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: had the greatest player ever, But it doesn't necessarily mean
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: you have to suck.
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: I would say people that that said that at the
- 1:42:24Speaker 4: time probably looked at the roster and said, this is
- 1:42:27Speaker 4: a guy who's dragging every ounce of success team.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: But maybe you know, okay, we can't rely on the quarterback.
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: We need to boost the roster. Unfortunately, the series of
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: you know, things that have happened since Brady left have
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: been bad moves and right, you know, I mean, but
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: focal point, but think about think about Dominic Easily that
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: was terrible while Brady was here, and they overcame it.
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: You know, I got such a good point.
- 1:42:58Speaker 8: No, we couldn't write it, but I feel like you
- 1:43:00Speaker 8: could write this as just through the lens of his
- 1:43:03Speaker 8: first round picks. Go right through those first round picks
- 1:43:06Speaker 8: from like whatever fifteen sixteen seven, chart that and say
- 1:43:10Speaker 8: why did they pick this guy? What direction was the
- 1:43:12Speaker 8: league headed, and what did he give them? And you know,
- 1:43:14Speaker 8: I think that that. I mean, I don't want to
- 1:43:15Speaker 8: pound the draft too, because it's like you have to
- 1:43:17Speaker 8: be able to hit in free agency. But I just
- 1:43:19Speaker 8: think that the selection of Isaiah Win, an undersized guy
- 1:43:22Speaker 8: that might be a guard, a running back, Sony Michelle,
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: not even that explosive argument.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: That they missed every year since high Tower in Jones
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: until Gonzales.
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: Yeah, and then he got hurt before again.
- 1:43:34Speaker 4: And then he got hurt.
- 1:43:36Speaker 5: Yeah, that's it, you know.
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: And they're not all like colossal, like Dominic Easley was
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: a bust, right, you know. Malcolm Brown played but I
- 1:43:45Speaker 4: would say, man, that's a miss. You know. Isaiah Win played,
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: but I would say that's a miss, you know, And
- 1:43:51Speaker 4: then NI kill Harry bust. There is no other definition.
- 1:43:54Speaker 8: It's like other than high Tower and Jones. Like the
- 1:43:57Speaker 8: real game changers that they got over the years were
- 1:44:00Speaker 8: kind of dumb luck, but somewhat just dumb luck, like
- 1:44:03Speaker 8: Gronk worked out, Edelman worked out.
- 1:44:05Speaker 6: Like That's what I always wonder if it is right.
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: It's like what would have happened in the twenty tens
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: if Edelman doesn't come out of nowhere as a seventh
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: round pick and Gronk's back doesn't hold up as long
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: as it did, And like they are in a situation
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: like would they then have gone after weapons? Like would they?
- 1:44:25Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: And like they did make the Brandon Cooks trade, I guess,
- 1:44:28Speaker 6: but like then they got rid of him the very
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: next year instead of giving him a contract extension, So
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: like would they have been more aggressive like they and
- 1:44:36Speaker 6: they got I don't want to use the word lucky
- 1:44:38Speaker 6: with Gronk because that they identified him in the second
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: round and they drafted him in the top fifty, and
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: they they made the pick.
- 1:44:44Speaker 4: But and I get what what Mike is saying. Yeah,
- 1:44:46Speaker 4: like a lot of other people, I did that too,
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: but couldn't pick a right. They didn't have Bill's.
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: Gravity right, and like a bunch of like you know,
- 1:44:52Speaker 6: if that is like what they're trying to do again now,
- 1:44:56Speaker 6: is like they're hoping that the Mario Douglas hits in
- 1:44:59Speaker 6: the same round or Taekwon Thorton hits in the second round,
- 1:45:04Speaker 6: and these picks are not working out, and it just
- 1:45:08Speaker 6: it does you don't just always stumble into it that way,
- 1:45:11Speaker 6: Like it doesn't always just like it's not going to
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: always work out for you that way.
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: I think you got a little glimpse of it in
- 1:45:16Speaker 8: early twenty thirteen, where after Welker had left and you
- 1:45:18Speaker 8: had Gronk coming off an injury, so I don't think
- 1:45:20Speaker 8: he was available.
- 1:45:21Speaker 4: Early in the season.
- 1:45:22Speaker 8: You brought in Amandola, who got banged up in that
- 1:45:24Speaker 8: first game where they pulled out a miracle against the Bills,
- 1:45:26Speaker 8: and Edelman wasn't Edelman yet and you saw like who
- 1:45:30Speaker 8: they were bringing in.
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: Tompkins, You drab Thompson, you pick up Kemberrell Tompkins. Who's
- 1:45:35Speaker 5: the guy with the Colts, guy with the with the
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: advisor that he played a little bit in twenty thirteen,
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: Austin Cawley.
- 1:45:42Speaker 8: You know, like, I think you're right, Evan in that
- 1:45:44Speaker 8: if those guys hadn't emerged, if Gronk hadn't come back
- 1:45:47Speaker 8: and given them what he gave them in you know,
- 1:45:49Speaker 8: twenty fourteen, twenty sixteen, or twenty fifteen, you know, those
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: those ones where he was such a big part of
- 1:45:54Speaker 8: the championship. I think it would have been similar to
- 1:45:56Speaker 8: this pretty quick by like fourteen fifteen if you don't
- 1:45:58Speaker 8: have Edelman and Ammadola and those guys emerging.
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: And I just think, like the landscape and this is
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: like where my whole thing comes in, with like the
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: the of that, you know, the approach, the philosophy. You know,
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: guys like a Gronkowski that are that talented and that
- 1:46:16Speaker 6: good that they go so much earlier now and they're
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: worth so much more to teams like you don't you
- 1:46:22Speaker 6: don't just get Julian Edelman in the seventh round anymore,
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: like that just doesn't normally happen like it does because
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: receivers go much earlier in the draft because they're more
- 1:46:32Speaker 6: valuable in today's NFL. Or if you know, you have
- 1:46:35Speaker 6: guys like that like Edelman and Gronk, you know, signed
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: that contract to what like right when he was eligible,
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: right like two years into it or something like that
- 1:46:42Speaker 6: like that, like Gronkowski in today's NFL is twenty five
- 1:46:45Speaker 6: million dollar player. Like that, They're not gonna pay Gronkowski
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: twenty five million dollars a year and.
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: So like the often overlooked portion of this, right, So.
- 1:46:54Speaker 6: Like all those guys and I think, uh mister Krafflick
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: even said it on like that that recent news interview
- 1:47:01Speaker 6: radio interview he did recently about you know how Brady
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: did take less money to play for the Patriots to
- 1:47:07Speaker 6: like that doesn't that's not happening anymore. Like all these
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: guys are getting paid top dollars. So if Gronkowski, if
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: you fast forward his career ten years later, like are
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: the Patriots paying him thirty million dollars a year to
- 1:47:20Speaker 6: catch passes?
- 1:47:21Speaker 4: Does he get to a second contract?
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Eldred's in North Carolina. What's up Eldred, Hey lady, now.
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: Actually face Yeah, welcome to my world.
- 1:47:35Speaker 18: I've been staying there for years. And Paul, I love
- 1:47:39Speaker 18: you and bread fight on a great Mama the pu. Yeah,
- 1:47:43Speaker 18: but you're right, Paul, You're right about strange. I called
- 1:47:47Speaker 18: him a bus y'all laughed at me. I called him
- 1:47:50Speaker 18: a bus day one of.
- 1:47:51Speaker 4: The draft, fairness Sandy, and I called him a bu
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: during OTAs of his rookie year. Wow, we were as
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: soon as he couldn't move, yeah.
- 1:48:03Speaker 18: Could move right, he couldn't catch, he couldn't get over,
- 1:48:05Speaker 18: and then he can't get over in the NFL. That's
- 1:48:06Speaker 18: what I kept saying. But my question is this. Okay,
- 1:48:10Speaker 18: nobody ever thought about this one though. But let's say
- 1:48:13Speaker 18: end of the year, mister Craft tells h phoeb, you
- 1:48:18Speaker 18: got another chance to do this with drafted in the
- 1:48:21Speaker 18: top five.
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: Well you think he do with that pick?
- 1:48:25Speaker 18: I'm gonna tell you what I know.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: You'll do.
- 1:48:27Speaker 18: Pray down to get back you picked if they give
- 1:48:29Speaker 18: you the team up from there. That's my that's my object.
- 1:48:32Speaker 18: What do you think he'll do?
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: What do you think about that? Well, Aldred, would you
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: be pissed if he did that?
- 1:48:37Speaker 18: I'd be pissed as hell. Yeah, of the whole thing.
- 1:48:41Speaker 18: And I'm like you, Fred, I'm not killing me. Paul
- 1:48:46Speaker 18: teared down, start over scratch, you know, none of his system,
- 1:48:51Speaker 18: none of that. And Evan, I agree with you can
- 1:48:53Speaker 18: get him the top five quarter back. He won't trade him,
- 1:48:56Speaker 18: right because he ain't treated what you god right. And
- 1:48:58Speaker 18: and like I said once, y'all laughed at me about this,
- 1:49:02Speaker 18: what a great quarterback leaves the team? And I gave
- 1:49:05Speaker 18: you five examples. The team always goes down and the
- 1:49:07Speaker 18: coach still be there and it's still it's the quarterback,
- 1:49:11Speaker 18: not the coach. Y'all laughed at me. But proof and
- 1:49:14Speaker 18: the proof pulling cowboys did it. Seems he went through
- 1:49:19Speaker 18: it until they got being dolphin's going through it. Cowboys
- 1:49:22Speaker 18: didn't be back yet, you know, so proof in the pudding.
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: Thank you?
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: All right, thanks Elgrin. Well, you can't argue.
- 1:49:30Speaker 6: Right, I am definitely worried about not just like the
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: coaching of the quarterback himself, but is he just going
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: to put the next quarterback in with Vederian Low as
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: his right tackle and DeVante Parker as his number one
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: receiver and like just do the same roster building around
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: the quarterback all over again, because that's what you're doing.
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: If you draft another quarterback, you're hitting the reset button
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: on the whole thing, like you're restarting the clock on
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: the rookie contract and you're starting from scratch. And I
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: have like more confidence in him coaching the quarterback and
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: doing the whole like you know, Belichick, you know magic
- 1:50:06Speaker 6: eight ball thing of like what's gonna have you know,
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: what the defenses are gonna do, and this, that and
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: the other thing. But like, is he gonna put the
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: talent around the quarterback necessary for Drake May to succeed
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: or Michael Pennix to succeed like he didn't with Mac,
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: So like why am I believing that he will?
- 1:50:21Speaker 8: I don't know where they're gonna end up, but I
- 1:50:22Speaker 8: just I feel like there's gonna be so much more
- 1:50:24Speaker 8: to put together, put back together than just Mac or
- 1:50:28Speaker 8: the quarterback.
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: Or you know, like it's if this season continues on
- 1:50:31Speaker 5: this trajectory, you're gonna have to restore trust, restore belief.
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: In the system.
- 1:50:34Speaker 8: And it's just it's hard for me to see how
- 1:50:37Speaker 8: that happens unless there's significant moves made.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: Spein Fresno writes in Fred asked Christian and Attleborough, is
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: this Chris with a tim? The poor guy says yes,
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: because that's how his name is spelt, and Fred's like, no,
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: it isn't. Absolutely Evan has mentioned tanking happens from the
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: GM on up. Frankly, I have no idea what's in
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: Bill's head. Maybe Bill is so confident that he believes
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: he has time to rebuilding. It's still catch shula. Maybe
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: his contract allows for such a scenario in ways we
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: don't know. I think it's highly unlikely Bill is tanking.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: But if he was, wouldn't it look much like it does?
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: What moves on or off the field. Do you look
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: at and say, if they were tanking, you wouldn't expect
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: to see that. I'm seeing more that fits a tank
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: than doesn't. But of course it could just be that
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: the program sucks.
- 1:51:22Speaker 15: Now.
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: I think that's like the only way that you can
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: look at it in a positive light is that he
- 1:51:29Speaker 6: knows that they were going to be bad, and so like,
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: you know, starting Vederian Lowe at right tackle and not
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: doing anything to make it better.
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: Again, I don't I don't think that there they have
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: a lot of telltale signs of tanking because and I've
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: gone through this ad nauseum, it's not an effort thing.
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: It's a personnel thing. So I'm not going to go
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: through that whole thing. But I think they still tend
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: to you know, like first month of the season, Adrian
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: Phillips wasn't playing that much and all of a sudden
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: he's playing more and Mapu plays nothing. Like I think
- 1:51:58Speaker 4: you would be turning it over or as many times
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: as you could to young unproven players when you had
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: an option if.
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: Those young unproven players are better, Like what if you
- 1:52:08Speaker 6: think they're better in practice than those.
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: So now you're going deep dive.
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: I listen.
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: I don't because this is.
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: Because like to the was it Speed or whoever emailed
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: and that said that, Like that's that's when I say
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: that tanking starts at the top, Like those are the
- 1:52:21Speaker 6: types of decisions that you make where it's like, you know,
- 1:52:24Speaker 6: we're not we're not playing the best players or we're
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: not getting the best players because you're because.
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: You know what else you're not doing. You're not immediately
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: activating a veteran like Riley Reef of off of IR
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: if you're tanking.
- 1:52:36Speaker 6: No I don't think the Patriots are tanking.
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: No, No, I'm just saying like that's those are the
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: examples I'm talking about, Like if you're tanking, yeah, Verderian
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: Lowe's playing, but you you would have found a way
- 1:52:47Speaker 4: to get Tyrone Wheatley on the field too, and you didn't.
- 1:52:51Speaker 4: And you know, listen, it's a flawed roster. So there's
- 1:52:55Speaker 4: not a lot of examples. Arizona got rid of everybody
- 1:52:58Speaker 4: and they just let all of these on even guys play.
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: They have guys that have never even heard of playing
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: in Arizona, like literally names I don't even remember going
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: through in the draft process. I'm sure you and Alex do. No,
- 1:53:09Speaker 4: I'm making fun of you. You definitely have a wider
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: breath of prospects than I do. But I don't even
- 1:53:15Speaker 4: remember these guys in like these recent drafts.
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: Is there a financial component?
- 1:53:19Speaker 8: Who do you think of like guys who have certain
- 1:53:21Speaker 8: playing you know, playtime things or escalators or are we
- 1:53:25Speaker 8: now like.
- 1:53:25Speaker 4: So Trent tan Brown would be one of those guys,
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: Like you're not going to bench him and then subject
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: yourself to that criticism if he's healthy, you know, if
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: he's not healthy, he's not healthy, that's different. But he
- 1:53:35Speaker 4: has played playtime incentives that you know, you owe it
- 1:53:39Speaker 4: to him to give him an opportunity to reach.
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: That's a good point. Dan's in Michigan. What's up, Dan?
- 1:53:45Speaker 24: Hey, guys, we expected, the wide spread expectation with our
- 1:53:51Speaker 24: Brian coming in was the offense would be better. Obviously
- 1:53:54Speaker 24: has not.
- 1:53:55Speaker 17: Now.
- 1:53:55Speaker 24: Some of that obviously is due to the paces that
- 1:53:58Speaker 24: are involved, but it seems that it goes beyond the
- 1:54:02Speaker 24: paces in terms of Brian not having as much success
- 1:54:05Speaker 24: as we expected. You know, there's been some decision making
- 1:54:10Speaker 24: that's questionable, you know, throwing it on third, second and
- 1:54:13Speaker 24: third and short, running for it on third and long,
- 1:54:17Speaker 24: you know, second and third and long. Why do you
- 1:54:20Speaker 24: think that O'Brien hasn't had more of an impact on
- 1:54:24Speaker 24: the offense. Why we haven't seen more success, more of
- 1:54:27Speaker 24: the success that we expected from him.
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: I just think it's simply talent players.
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I actually, like I I think we get
- 1:54:35Speaker 6: like not to pick on Dan, but like I think
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: we get way too caught up in play calling, like
- 1:54:40Speaker 6: you know, like I think it matters in certain spots
- 1:54:43Speaker 6: of the game and certain moments of the game and
- 1:54:45Speaker 6: things like that, but like everybody gets all you know,
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: Alex and I argue, boy, this on catch twenty two
- 1:54:50Speaker 6: all the time. Why are they throwing it on third
- 1:54:52Speaker 6: and one? Well, because they got a look that makes
- 1:54:54Speaker 6: it that say that throwing it here is better than
- 1:54:56Speaker 6: running it Like it's not.
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: Unfortunately, we haven't really got had a enough to judge
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: O'Brien on like those moments. Yeah, like right now, the
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: talent is just not good enough.
- 1:55:07Speaker 8: Yeah, I think now you need to see him though,
- 1:55:09Speaker 8: start to maybe just try to figure out a way
- 1:55:11Speaker 8: to manufacture points.
- 1:55:12Speaker 4: Can I go Billy o apologist for a second?
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: Sure?
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: And I listen, it is what it is. They haven't
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: been any more successful offensive with than they were last year.
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: I'm not trying to use Revision's history, but I do
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: think that they they have faced a fair amount of
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: really good defenses so far, and it's a small sample
- 1:55:31Speaker 4: because you only played six games. Sunday was the first
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: game that I thought, really, you know, in the last
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: five Philly, I thought it was a promising start. Then
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: they kind of went. But Sunday I thought it looked
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: a little bit more like Okay, I saw some of
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: these games last year and not coincidentally, he was against
- 1:55:51Speaker 4: the first defense. You know, it was the Raiders this year,
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: it was Detroit last year. You know, those are the
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: you know, the Green Bay had a terrible defense last year.
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: When they played him early in the year, they kind
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: of got better. I think, you know, seventeen twenty four points,
- 1:56:07Speaker 4: that's kind of what they've been. Yeah, now the threes
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: and the zeros, like, what are we doing? But Dallas
- 1:56:14Speaker 4: and New Orleans are pretty good defensive and now he
- 1:56:16Speaker 4: shouldn't be shut yet. I'm not trying to. I'm only
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: apologizing so far. But I do think if they played
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: that caliber of defense on a regular basis last year,
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: you would have had some really really bad games, just
- 1:56:28Speaker 4: like you did.
- 1:56:29Speaker 6: I think the design of the offense, too, like is
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: just significantly more advanced and better. Like I'm not even
- 1:56:35Speaker 6: just talking about like necessarily like the actual play design itself,
- 1:56:39Speaker 6: but just like the answers involved in the offense, like
- 1:56:43Speaker 6: you know, the answers for the quarterback, like that, you know,
- 1:56:46Speaker 6: the throat to Zeke on Sunday where they get a
- 1:56:49Speaker 6: blitz and they block it incorrectly, but he still has
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: a hot to get the ball out and so he
- 1:56:53Speaker 6: doesn't get destroyed. You know, the answers for the receivers,
- 1:56:57Speaker 6: the stacks and the bunches and the motions and like
- 1:56:59Speaker 6: things like it's definitely just a completely different conversation. The
- 1:57:04Speaker 6: one thing that I like think that Billy O hasn't
- 1:57:06Speaker 6: brought it back is like the discipline, like in terms
- 1:57:10Speaker 6: of you know, like running routes correctly all the time,
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: you know, the penalties, this procedural stuff like you know,
- 1:57:17Speaker 6: he said it on Tuesday, and I thought both of
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: his answers are really good. And you know, he said
- 1:57:22Speaker 6: he called the start of the game with the two
- 1:57:24Speaker 6: penalties ridiculous, and like you could tell that it was
- 1:57:26Speaker 6: just like he wanted to use a different word, but
- 1:57:28Speaker 6: he used ridiculous and then he used the delay. He said,
- 1:57:31Speaker 6: the delay of game on the last drive of the
- 1:57:33Speaker 6: game was terrible, and he was like, those are things
- 1:57:36Speaker 6: that we just absolutely have to stop doing.
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: Mark's in San Francisco. What's up, Mark, You're the last caller? Yeah, Hey,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: so okay.
- 1:57:50Speaker 25: A new to team that is experiencing, thinking or talking
- 1:57:53Speaker 25: about tanking, so for would be maybe very basic question,
- 1:57:57Speaker 25: but I think a lot of you know, be right,
- 1:58:00Speaker 25: and people talk about trading them, trading away pretty much everybody,
- 1:58:06Speaker 25: And I was just wondering what the point is of that,
- 1:58:09Speaker 25: or no one's talking about, you know, keeping foundational players. Well,
- 1:58:14Speaker 25: I understand, you know, get rid of an expensive player,
- 1:58:20Speaker 25: but we have a lot of cap space next year
- 1:58:23Speaker 25: and so, and we need good players if you're you know,
- 1:58:27Speaker 25: want to continue, you know, try to be good in
- 1:58:29Speaker 25: the future.
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: So I guess I, well, it depends on who you're
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: talking about. Like, if it's a good player who is
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: at the end of the contract, you're like, okay, is
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: this guy going to be the long you know, part
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: of our foundation. So it's and it's not so much
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: freeing up cap space money, it's getting draft assets. So
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: even if they're fifth round picks, sixth round picks, you're
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: building ammunition in the event that you want to move
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: up and make a move.
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: So in Mark, one of the things is a lot
- 1:58:55Speaker 4: of people myself included in all of us on the show,
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: we give a long list of names of possibilities, you know,
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: the Hunter, Henry's, the Kyle Duglas, the Jalen Mills, is
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: josh Us right, Kendrick Bourne. I don't think anybody would
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: suggest they're going to trade like a half dozen players.
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: You take out of that group one maybe two, And
- 1:59:16Speaker 4: as Fred said, if you can get a sixth round
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: pick and then you you know, so you add you know,
- 1:59:20Speaker 4: two or three Day three picks, maybe you can package
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: those and get into Day two with them somehow, you know,
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: Like I think that's the thought process. But no one
- 1:59:29Speaker 4: would would suggest they're going to take all of these guys,
- 1:59:33Speaker 4: all entering the last year of their contract and trade
- 1:59:35Speaker 4: them all because you're not going to get anything for
- 1:59:37Speaker 4: all of them. And it's not really just.
- 1:59:39Speaker 6: Like if a team, a contender like you know, Kansas
- 1:59:42Speaker 6: City needs receiver help or something like that, calls and
- 1:59:45Speaker 6: offers you a second round pick for Kendrick Bourne, you
- 1:59:47Speaker 6: have to do it, like you have to take that.
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: Trade some team that might just look like they need
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: some depth and pass rush goes for OOJ.
- 1:59:54Speaker 6: Yeah, you know.
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: And and those are the kinds of deals I think
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: would make some sense. The one guy that I think
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: could get you some unfortunately, is hurt. Like if you
- 2:00:01Speaker 4: wanted to trade Judon, yeah, I think you might be
- 2:00:04Speaker 4: able to get something for him, but that's going to
- 2:00:07Speaker 4: be an offseason trade if they do.
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: All, right, that's going to do it for this edition
