- Lucas: Luna, ready for another Danish episode? Luna: Yes! I've been practicing our last phrases. But today, something new? Lucas: Exactly. Today, we're going to the library. In Danish, that's 'et bibliotek'. Luna: Et bibliotek. That sounds fancy. Et bibliotek. Lucas: Good. Now, what do you find at a library? A book: 'en bog'. Luna: En bog. Easy! I know 'bog' from 'boghandel' maybe. Lucas: Very close. And what do you do with a book? You borrow it: 'at låne'. Luna: At låne. So 'at låne en bog' is to borrow a book? Lucas: Exactly. Now let's make a full sentence: 'Jeg vil gerne låne en bog.' That means 'I would like to borrow a book.' Luna: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. That's a mouthful but I like it. Lucas: You're doing great. Now, if you need help finding something, you ask: 'Hvor finder jeg bøger om dansk?' — 'Where do I find books about Danish?' Luna: Hvor finder jeg bøger om dansk? That's useful! Hvor finder jeg... bøger om dansk. Lucas: Perfect. And finally, to borrow books, you often need a library card: 'et lånerkort'. So: 'Kan jeg få et lånerkort?' — 'Can I get a library card?' Luna: Kan jeg få et lånerkort. I'll need that. Kan jeg få et lånerkort. Lucas: Let's hear all three phrases together. First: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. Luna: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. Lucas: Hvor finder jeg bøger om dansk? Luna: Hvor finder jeg bøger om dansk? Lucas: Kan jeg få et lånerkort? Luna: Kan jeg få et lånerkort? Yes, I got them. Lucas: Now let's imagine a little scene. You walk into a library. You go to the desk and say... Luna: Hej! Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. Lucas: The librarian asks what kind of book. You say bøger om dansk. Then she says you need a card. Luna: Kan jeg få et lånerkort? Lucas: Perfect. You'd be all set. Oh, and by the way, speaking of being set — if today's episode was useful to you and you want to keep it ad-free, buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo helps. Luna: Yeah, it really does. A small thing that makes a big difference for us. Lucas: Right. So back to the library — let's practice the word 'bibliotek' again. Say it slowly: bi blio tek. Luna: bi blio tek. Et bibliotek. Lucas: Good. And 'bog' — en bog. Now try: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog om dansk. Luna: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog om dansk. Oh, that adds 'om dansk' — about Danish. Lucas: Exactly. So now you have a longer sentence. Let's do a quick review of all today's words: et bibliotek, en bog, at låne. Luna: Et bibliotek, en bog, at låne. Lucas: And the phrases: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. Luna: Jeg vil gerne låne en bog. Lucas: Hvor finder jeg bøger om dansk? Luna: Hvor finder jeg bøger om dansk? Lucas: Kan jeg få et lånerkort? Luna: Kan jeg få et lånerkort? I think I've got it. Lucas: Fantastic. Practice these before your next library visit. And if you want more, come back next time. Vi ses! Luna: Vi ses! Thanks, Lucas.
