- 0:00Welcome to your PCJ Pop where we let you know what you should read, watch, listen to all
- 0:13of the above.
- 0:14If we don't like it, neither should you.
- 0:16Olivia, what are you popping this week?
- 0:19Well, Shauna, recent events have really had me thinking about a show that I watched,
- 0:25that I really, really did love. It gets a little cookie in the end, but in the beginning,
- 0:30it's really, really good. It's a season one and season two amazing pieces of television.
- 0:36And this is on HBO. It is the show called The Leftovers. Have you ever seen it?
- 0:43No, I've heard of it, but I've never seen it. Tell me about it.
- 0:47Okay. So it is a show that is set three years after the disappearance of 2% of the global
- 0:55human population. A group of people in a small New York community try to, like we follow
- 1:04these characters in like a tiny little town who are trying to deal with the aftermath
- 1:09of 2% of the population just randomly disappearing one day.
- 1:13That's it, only 2%.
- 1:14Yeah. And so 2% of people of the human population just disappeared. No explanation, no idea why.
- 1:23And it is how does society actually deal with that and try to come back from it? And you
- 1:29know, it's not necessarily like, oh, this is the rapture. This is like aliens. You have
- 1:35no idea what happened. Yeah. And it's, and it's the story of how would people and communities
- 1:42survive after something like that? Such a good show. It is amazing. Like it, it has
- 1:48Justin Thoreau. It has lived Tyler in it. It has Amy Brennan. And it is created by Damon
- 1:58Lindelof and Tom Perota. Is it a comedy? Oh, no. Oh, it's a drama. Oh, it's an HBO show.
- 2:07It is very, very dark in it is kind of like, okay, how do people move on from, you know,
- 2:14this moment where, you know, so given everything that has been going on recently with the, the
- 2:21tizzy that was going on, it really was making me think of this show. And the show is really
- 2:26quite profound. It gets a little kooky towards the end. But the first two seasons are amazing.
- 2:32It's actually one of the first things that I saw Justin Theroux be like a leading man
- 2:37in. Is it already finished? Yes. Thank you.
- 2:41You can watch the entire thing. How many seasons are there? I think there are three toto.
- 2:47I have them. Season one and two good, good watching. Then it gets a little crazy, but it
- 2:55also has Carrie Coon in it and has Margaret Qualley. It has Ann Dowd in it. So really some,
- 3:02I would say right before a lot of these actors blew up. They were in the show. And honestly,
- 3:08it makes sense why they blew up because it is just such a crazy psychological drama like post-apocalyptic
- 3:15or start making it and kind of thing. So it's very, very good.
- 3:19I have to give this a try. You sold me this way. Yeah, I think given everything that has been
- 3:25going on, it's the perfect. Rack to think, you know, what if that really did happen? How
- 3:30would we move on as a society? Love it. My pop this week is one of my favorite movies of
- 3:37all time. It's kind of one of my comfort movies that I'll put on when I don't feel like watching
- 3:41something new. And also kind of apocalyptic. It's called Warm Bodies. So this is from 2013.
- 3:49A terrible plague has left the planet's population divided between zombies and humans. There's an
- 3:55unusual zombie named R who is played by Nicholas Hoult. So hot. Oh my god, he's so hot in this movie.
- 4:03And so he forms kind of a friendship with Julie played by Teresa Palmer and rescues her.
- 4:10And we kind of see are evolve over the course of the movie as they form this friendship. It
- 4:16is a horror movie, a comedy, a romance. It has also, let's see here, John Malkovich, Dave
- 4:24Franco, Rob Corddry. It has a pretty stacked cast in there. And it always just makes me,
- 4:31I don't know. I love seeing how he changes over the course of the movie. Our is internal monologue,
- 4:36even though he's a zombie and is walking all zombie like is just his internal monologue. So he's
- 4:42like, come on, man, don't be a dick. Like say something normal, say something normal. And it comes
- 4:46out as like, it's so funny and heartfelt. It's on Amazon Prime. Have you ever seen this movie,
- 4:55Olivia? I have. Yes. And I really liked it. I think it was one of the first ones that like subverted
- 5:03the scary zombie and made it kind of like a silaguffy. Yeah. Kind of reminds me of I zombie.
- 5:11Even though I mean in I zombie, she is just like a walking talking human who happens to be a zombie.
- 5:17Whereas he is a straight up zombie who kind of changes over the course of time. But yeah,
- 5:24I'm going to go ahead and pop warm bodies this week. It is a movie that you can watch on Amazon Prime.
- 5:30And Olivia is popping the leftovers a series that you can watch on HBO or HBO Max, whatever it's
- 5:37called now. Whatever they're saying nowadays. And that'll do it for your PCJ Pop.
