- 0:02Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and a happy November seventeenth till.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:06Speaker 1: On this Monday, I am your guest host, Alana Rizzo,
- 0:09Speaker 1: along two men that you know very well. That is
- 0:12Speaker 1: Aj Pierzinski. That is Eric Kratz. Aj, Eric, how are
- 0:16Speaker 1: you Aj? We'll start with you. How is your weekend?
- 0:19Speaker 3: Oh? It's good weekend. Nothing. Didn't do a whole lot, honestly,
- 0:23Speaker 3: just kind of did some stuff around the house, hung out.
- 0:25Speaker 3: How about you. Alana.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Good to be back with you boys. It's been a while.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Scott Braun is off today. Congratulations to Scotti, by the way,
- 0:32Speaker 1: getting married over the course of the weekend. So Scott
- 0:35Speaker 1: and Emma bron congrats. I went on a safari. That's
- 0:39Speaker 1: the most recent news for me. Guys, and Eric Kratz
- 0:42Speaker 1: sent me a text during my safari trip. Apparently we
- 0:46Speaker 1: stayed at the same hotel in Cape Town, South Africa.
- 0:50Speaker 1: So hm, there you have it. If you go to
- 0:52Speaker 1: South Africa, you go to Cape Town, Eric, stay at
- 0:55Speaker 1: the Victoria and Alfred as you did.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So beautiful right on the water there you see the boats.
- 1:02Speaker 2: You can look out at what is that tabletop mountain.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And table table mountain.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Table mountain and what's the island, the famous island where.
- 1:11Speaker 1: They well they have a cape of Good Hope.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah, cape of Good. It's anyway beautiful. It was beautiful,
- 1:17Speaker 2: so it's cool to see. When I pulled up your ex,
- 1:19Speaker 2: it just came across a picture and I'm like what,
- 1:22Speaker 2: I looked at my pictures went back. I'm like, what.
- 1:25Speaker 2: We didn't stay in the same room, but it's on
- 1:27Speaker 2: the same same floor of the hotel.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah, same same itinerary apparently. And when you say that
- 1:33Speaker 1: you pulled up my ex, you're talking about X formerly
- 1:36Speaker 1: known as Twitter, not like ex boyfriend or Yeah. All right,
- 1:39Speaker 1: so there's that. Did you have a good weekend? Aeric Kratz?
- 1:41Speaker 1: What'd you do a j great weekend?
- 1:44Speaker 2: Great weekend? Got to went to the Worthwhile Gala raise
- 1:48Speaker 2: some money for UH to raise awareness for human trafficking,
- 1:53Speaker 2: and I got to spend a beautiful night's dinner at
- 1:56Speaker 2: the gala. Mark Wiener actually dressed up and wore a tie.
- 2:01Speaker 1: He did not.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It was tremendous. He looked not tremendous.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So he cleans up nice, is what you're saying, Mark
- 2:07Speaker 1: Wiener does. All right, boys, good to be back with you.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Let's get to it. A lot to talk about today.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Let's charge the mound.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Let's charge it about.
- 2:18Speaker 1: So it looks like Josh Naylor A. J. Pierzinski and
- 2:22Speaker 1: the Seattle Mariners are going to be in a five
- 2:24Speaker 1: year union. Jeff Passon and Ken Rosenthal talking about it.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Free agent first baseman Josh Naylor in agreement with the
- 2:31Speaker 1: M's on a five year deal, of course, pending that
- 2:33Speaker 1: physical agent. Why do you think this makes sense?
- 2:35Speaker 3: If you do, I think it makes a lot of
- 2:38Speaker 3: sense for both sides. I think Naylor must have gone
- 2:40Speaker 3: to Seattle and really liked it. They've almost made the
- 2:42Speaker 3: World Series. He's a free agent and they made an
- 2:44Speaker 3: offer that he likes. And I'm hearing what five years
- 2:48Speaker 3: around one hundred which is a pretty good contract. I
- 2:50Speaker 3: mean for a guy with Josh Naylor. And listen, if
- 2:53Speaker 3: you like a place and you find a place that
- 2:55Speaker 3: you really like and they're offering you a contract that
- 2:57Speaker 3: you're comfortable with, take it. And he's doing that. And
- 3:00Speaker 3: good for Josh Naylor and good for the Mariners on
- 3:02Speaker 3: spending some money and trying to make their team, especially
- 3:05Speaker 3: their offense better early in the offseason.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And Aja you mentioned it, trying to make their team
- 3:10Speaker 1: and go forward in the off season, and Eric, we
- 3:12Speaker 1: know that Depoto makes a lot of moves, right, but
- 3:14Speaker 1: this is a guy that is trying, I guess, to
- 3:17Speaker 1: lock down that core group because now you have Josh Naylor.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Of course you have cal Rally, which they should lock
- 3:22Speaker 1: up for eternity, Julio Rodriguez and the Mariner's rotation. So
- 3:25Speaker 1: this is a foundational piece to what is already a
- 3:28Speaker 1: pretty decent foundation moving forward for the MS. What's your
- 3:31Speaker 1: take on it.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I feel like anytime you can add a significant bat
- 3:36Speaker 2: who they got Josh Naylor and they were like, you
- 3:38Speaker 2: know what, we're getting a guy he stole a few
- 3:40Speaker 2: bases whatever, he added that stolen based component to what
- 3:44Speaker 2: he already has, and clearly, I mean, we get it.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Julio Rodriguez got MVP votes, cal Rally could have won
- 3:51Speaker 2: the MVP, and you go, okay, well, we don't need
- 3:56Speaker 2: somebody to carry the lineup. But when you're constantly yearning,
- 4:00Speaker 2: year out, never making that move on a Pete Alonzo,
- 4:03Speaker 2: obviously they're never in a Jan Soto ownership. Just would
- 4:07Speaker 2: refuse to allow Jerry to Poto who wants to make
- 4:09Speaker 2: moves to make moves to be able to see that
- 4:13Speaker 2: as the Mariners to shift in this direction. It's awesome.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Now you have Julio who's locked up, you have JP
- 4:19Speaker 2: Crawford locked up, you have Cal locked up, and this
- 4:23Speaker 2: is five years. You know, is this starting rotation going
- 4:26Speaker 2: to last for five years? Maybe all this is like
- 4:29Speaker 2: a year or two late when they were really all
- 4:31Speaker 2: in their prime. But they've shown they can produce pitching
- 4:34Speaker 2: in their minor leagues. So this is this is a
- 4:37Speaker 2: great This is obviously a great move. I think he
- 4:39Speaker 2: was the second best first baseman on the market.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And you talk about first baseman guys, and AJ will
- 4:44Speaker 1: bump it over to you again. You look at the
- 4:46Speaker 1: first basemen that are signed to essentially long term deals,
- 4:50Speaker 1: at least more than a two year deal. We'll put
- 4:51Speaker 1: it that way. So Josh Naylor now joins Vladimir Gerro junior,
- 4:55Speaker 1: who's obviously going to be in Toronto forever. James Sheiano
- 4:57Speaker 1: tweeting this earlier. Every first baseman who's sign to more
- 5:00Speaker 1: than a two year deal, Christian Walker of course, Matt
- 5:03Speaker 1: Olsen of the Braves, who took over for Freddie Freeman
- 5:06Speaker 1: who went to the Dodgers obviously, and he's signed long
- 5:09Speaker 1: term in Los Angeles. So it's a really small list.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I'm I guess I'm a little surprised that Naylor is
- 5:14Speaker 1: on this list, but I do think it makes sense
- 5:16Speaker 1: for the Mariners.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Yeah, it makes total sense for both. Again the Mariners. Yes, listen,
- 5:22Speaker 3: they lock up a power guy that can play every day.
- 5:25Speaker 3: He's left handed, he performed in the postseason. What else
- 5:28Speaker 3: do you want? I mean, could you have maybe gotten more? Maybe?
- 5:30Speaker 3: But again, this is a place. He liked, this place,
- 5:32Speaker 3: he seemed comfortable. Good for him, and you don't what
- 5:35Speaker 3: a five year deal. It's pretty nice to go home
- 5:37Speaker 3: and say, hey, guys, I got a five year deal.
- 5:39Speaker 3: That's pretty awesome.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's awesome. It's nice to have that job security.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And obviously James Sheiano is the host of the Mets
- 5:45Speaker 1: Up podcast right here on Foul Territory, and he's probably
- 5:48Speaker 1: thinking about this list because what's going to happen with
- 5:50Speaker 1: Pete Alonso? Right Like, where is their first baseman going
- 5:53Speaker 1: to go? So, Eric, I asked you this, what else
- 5:56Speaker 1: do the Mariners need to do in the off season
- 5:59Speaker 1: because they have a hell the court. You talked about
- 6:01Speaker 1: the starting rotation. Obviously, it seems like the offense is
- 6:04Speaker 1: finally catching up to that starting rotation. What else do
- 6:07Speaker 1: they need to do?
- 6:09Speaker 2: I think they need I think they definitely need another bat.
- 6:12Speaker 2: What type of bat? When they got a Hineosuarez obviously
- 6:16Speaker 2: had a huge two home run game in the playoffs
- 6:19Speaker 2: that helped them get to where they were or continue
- 6:21Speaker 2: to move on to where they were, But you do
- 6:25Speaker 2: they need another power bat like that? I think they
- 6:28Speaker 2: would have to evaluate it and say what type of
- 6:30Speaker 2: hitter comes into this park and can hit dingers? And
- 6:34Speaker 2: if they say there's nothing available, is there somebody in
- 6:38Speaker 2: a trade that can help them keep the line moving
- 6:42Speaker 2: and not just be automatic outs. You know, sometimes sometimes
- 6:47Speaker 2: when you have a park that is tough to hit
- 6:50Speaker 2: in or tough to hit home runs in, then you say, okay,
- 6:54Speaker 2: you know, well we'll just try We'll just try to
- 6:56Speaker 2: get the biggest bat we can, you know, some type
- 6:58Speaker 2: of one year Reese Hosket type of deal. I know
- 7:00Speaker 2: it's not going to work out because theyre have a
- 7:02Speaker 2: first basement, but is there something that adds to that lineup?
- 7:07Speaker 2: To me, you got to put the ball in play
- 7:09Speaker 2: if you can't hit dangers out of your park on
- 7:11Speaker 2: a consistent basis, and that costs money. Find somebody that
- 7:14Speaker 2: you can put the ball in play. Find somebody that's
- 7:16Speaker 2: going to keep the line moving. And I think it's
- 7:19Speaker 2: really adding to that lineup is what they need. Because
- 7:21Speaker 2: that bullpen is stacked, the starting rotation stays healthy, stacked.
- 7:26Speaker 2: You know, that's that's where their focus should be.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Holiday shopping season is here and we have you covered
- 7:36Speaker 4: from head to toe.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Let's take to talk about an area that's not quite
- 7:40Speaker 2: close to the toes. Let's get crazy with this holiday season.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah that's me Undies. I'm spinning around, but the holiday season.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Now you can get me Undie's with some holiday prints
- 7:50Speaker 2: on them.
- 7:50Speaker 4: That's right, ridiculously soft fabric holiday prints, matching holiday prints
- 7:55Speaker 4: with your special person. Or you can coordinate pjs for
- 7:58Speaker 4: the family photo. And right now you can get up
- 8:01Speaker 4: to fifty percent off with the code foul. We rock
- 8:03Speaker 4: me Undies. You should too. We're talking over thirty million
- 8:07Speaker 4: pairs sold. Knock out all your holiday gifting needs today
- 8:11Speaker 4: with me undies. To get exclusive holiday deals up to
- 8:14Speaker 4: yep I said it, fifty percent off. Go to meundies
- 8:17Speaker 4: dot com, slash foul and enter promo code foul. That's
- 8:22Speaker 4: m E U N D I E s dot com
- 8:25Speaker 4: slash foul promo code foul for up to fifty percent off.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Seattle went pretty deep into the postseason this year, obviously
- 8:34Speaker 1: getting vested by the Toronto Blue Jays who ended up
- 8:36Speaker 1: in the World Series. But AJ, let me ask you this,
- 8:39Speaker 1: Eric wants another bat, not certain which type. What else
- 8:43Speaker 1: do the Mariners, in your opinion, need to do to
- 8:45Speaker 1: get over the hump to at least get back into
- 8:48Speaker 1: the postseason next year? Move further? Is it a bullpen
- 8:51Speaker 1: piece or is it another piece of that starting rotation.
- 8:54Speaker 3: It's about I mean, it's still about. It's it's always
- 8:57Speaker 3: going to be a bad in Seattle. There their starting
- 8:59Speaker 3: rotation is good if Logan, Gilbert, George, Kirby, Castillo and
- 9:03Speaker 3: Bright and Wu stay healthy along with Bryce Miller. I
- 9:07Speaker 3: mean there's a five to five of the best, and
- 9:08Speaker 3: then their bullpen with Mutnios at the back end and
- 9:11Speaker 3: some of the guys. They found one thing about Seattle,
- 9:13Speaker 3: they always seem to figure out how to manipulate guys
- 9:15Speaker 3: in the bullpen. So I don't know that they need
- 9:17Speaker 3: any more pitching with a nice veteran starter look good. Sure,
- 9:19Speaker 3: but they have five guys who've been around now for
- 9:21Speaker 3: a couple of years. So unless you're going to go
- 9:23Speaker 3: out and trade one of those guys for another bat
- 9:25Speaker 3: that you can use multiple position player pieces that can
- 9:29Speaker 3: be ready in the future. I think you just got
- 9:31Speaker 3: to go and load up on bats. I mean Raleigh Julio. Now,
- 9:34Speaker 3: Naylor Polanco is a free agent, they got to go
- 9:36Speaker 3: do some with him. Crawford's a nice piece, Rose Aina
- 9:40Speaker 3: is still there, so I think they're in a good spot.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I think one more piece, whether it's a third baseman
- 9:44Speaker 3: maybe I mean Alex Bregman, I don't think would go there,
- 9:47Speaker 3: but something like that would be a really nice piece.
- 9:49Speaker 3: And the guy also could play some defense, because their
- 9:53Speaker 3: defense was a little bit I wouldn't want to say shaky,
- 9:58Speaker 3: but it wasn't the best defense in.
- 9:59Speaker 1: The league, all right, A little suspect at times. By
- 10:02Speaker 1: the way, congratulations to George Kirby, he got engaged recently.
- 10:05Speaker 1: These are the stupid facts I bring to foul Territory
- 10:08Speaker 1: on a bi monthly basis. Are the Mariners aerk Kratz
- 10:12Speaker 1: the team to beat in the AL West going into
- 10:15Speaker 1: spring training? Are they the best in the division.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I mean, I guess, I guess it's okay to pick
- 10:23Speaker 2: against the Astros now. I mean last year, I just
- 10:27Speaker 2: refused to pick against the Astros. And I guess that's
- 10:29Speaker 2: why they lost. They took a little bit of a
- 10:31Speaker 2: step back because they couldn't fight through the colossal injury
- 10:35Speaker 2: of your Don. I mean, I think it's a yes,
- 10:39Speaker 2: I think they I think they made that the last
- 10:41Speaker 2: push that they made in September when Mariners of old
- 10:45Speaker 2: Mariners history, every team collapses. They look like they wanted
- 10:50Speaker 2: to collapse in August when they had some tough road
- 10:52Speaker 2: trips and they were losing six of the seven games.
- 10:55Speaker 2: But they made that next transition. And I think some
- 10:58Speaker 2: of that is maturation of Juliocal JP Crawford, But I
- 11:03Speaker 2: also think some of it can be the fact that
- 11:05Speaker 2: they're extended for a long time. They're not sitting there
- 11:09Speaker 2: trying to trying to get hits, trying to do things
- 11:13Speaker 2: that They're just trying to win games. They're just trying
- 11:15Speaker 2: to win games in any way possible. And so I
- 11:18Speaker 2: think this team has because of this past year. Right now,
- 11:21Speaker 2: I see them, they catapulted themselves to the favorites in
- 11:25Speaker 2: the West, which they always work. Because they're starting rotation
- 11:29Speaker 2: and now that they're starting to hit the ball a
- 11:31Speaker 2: little bit better, it's legit is.
- 11:35Speaker 1: That the case. AJ. You think the Mariners are at
- 11:38Speaker 1: top of the division heading in.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Well, let's see what the Rangers and the Astros do
- 11:43Speaker 3: this offseason. I think those are two big clubs. Astros
- 11:47Speaker 3: just missed the postseason. The Rangers have pieces that are
- 11:50Speaker 3: very nice. We'll see they're supposed to be cutting payroll.
- 11:52Speaker 3: But let's see what the Astros do. I think what
- 11:55Speaker 3: happens with Fromber, what other moves they make a full
- 11:58Speaker 3: year of Carlos Korea. Let's see what the Astros go
- 12:02Speaker 3: out and do. But right now where we sit on today,
- 12:04Speaker 3: on what is the November seventeenth, Yes, the Mariners are
- 12:07Speaker 3: the favorites.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's insane to think what the Astros did even
- 12:11Speaker 1: with the from Ravalde or excuse me, the your Don
- 12:13Speaker 1: Alvarez injury, guys, and obviously not having Kyle Tucker or
- 12:17Speaker 1: Alex Bregman, and they very easily could have won the
- 12:20Speaker 1: division as well. Guys, Big day on the baseball calendar tomorrow.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Snake's Territories, Jack Summer's writing that November eighteenth, the qualifying
- 12:29Speaker 1: offer and Rule five. This is the deadline guys for
- 12:31Speaker 1: a player to either accept or reject a qualifying offer.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The amount for this season twenty two point two five
- 12:38Speaker 1: million dollars. Zach Gallon's decision, guys, must be made on
- 12:42Speaker 1: that date. What do you think he does?
- 12:44Speaker 3: Aj cops out. I don't think anybody's going to take
- 12:46Speaker 3: the qualifying offer. We haven't seen a lot of guys
- 12:48Speaker 3: take it. I don't think Zach Gallon's taken, and I
- 12:51Speaker 3: think he has Skyle Boris, and Skyle bors will tell
- 12:53Speaker 3: them he can get him more on the open market.
- 12:54Speaker 3: So I don't think we'll see anybody who was a
- 12:56Speaker 3: Nick Martinez. I think was the only one who took
- 12:58Speaker 3: it last year, and I he will. Don't think you don't.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Think Big will will?
- 13:04Speaker 3: Uh?
- 13:06Speaker 2: I feel like he's the one. I don't think that.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I don't think gall maybe, but maybe I don't know.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Maybe Wu's just ready to try something different. I don't know.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I mean, although twenty one million sounds pretty good, but
- 13:19Speaker 3: I don't know. We'll see he Yeah, I guess he
- 13:21Speaker 3: would be the one. I just think I just don't.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I just think they must have had a conversation already
- 13:26Speaker 3: about hey, we're going to offer you this. You know,
- 13:28Speaker 3: if you take it, we don't really want you to
- 13:29Speaker 3: take it. But I don't know, we'll.
- 13:30Speaker 2: See I think I think Gallan, I think anytime I
- 13:35Speaker 2: see stuff in the media now that I'm in the media,
- 13:39Speaker 2: and I'm like, like, just because he had just because
- 13:42Speaker 2: he had it down here this year, like our team's
- 13:44Speaker 2: going to look at it and be like, oh, yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 2: he's probably on the decline. No, like, look at the
- 13:50Speaker 2: whole body at work. It's one hundred million dollar picture.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Did it bring down his value some maybe? But one
- 13:56Speaker 2: hundred million is not even close to twenty two point
- 13:59Speaker 2: zero five.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Joe Sherman coming in with this, you guys. Yankees are
- 14:03Speaker 1: an agreement on a one year deal with Ryan Yarborough,
- 14:06Speaker 1: as by Robert Murray first reported. Yarborough guys a four
- 14:10Speaker 1: to three six ERA last season in nineteen games, eight
- 14:13Speaker 1: of those which were starts with the Yankees. Good deal,
- 14:16Speaker 1: bad deal.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Eric, Now knowing the money, I have a hard time
- 14:21Speaker 2: believing this is a bad deal. I hate it for
- 14:24Speaker 2: yards that he doesn't get a multi year deal here.
- 14:26Speaker 2: But he's a perfect switch, you know, a knife you know,
- 14:32Speaker 2: the whole pocket knife. I'm trying to say switch knife,
- 14:35Speaker 2: and I can't come up with the word.
- 14:36Speaker 1: But Swiss army knife.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Swiss army knight, thank you, thank you. Because he can start,
- 14:43Speaker 2: because he can open, because he can call out. Like
- 14:45Speaker 2: there's there's times when you have a deep rotation of
- 14:48Speaker 2: five or six guys and you need somebody that can open.
- 14:51Speaker 2: But then you need some one of those guys to
- 14:53Speaker 2: be able to shift to the bullpen. At Yarborough. He's
- 14:57Speaker 2: been that and you know you'd like to see him
- 14:59Speaker 2: stay a little bit. He did this year, but he's
- 15:02Speaker 2: gonna give you what you need. So I think it's great,
- 15:04Speaker 2: especially he can lock up another big league deal.
- 15:10Speaker 3: It's good move. Yeah, pitch there. He proved he could
- 15:13Speaker 3: pitch there. It's a good deal for both. They can
- 15:16Speaker 3: use him as a starter if they need to, if
- 15:17Speaker 3: someone goes down. They can use him as a long guy.
- 15:20Speaker 3: They can use him as an opener, they can use
- 15:21Speaker 3: them lead innings. He can give you length. I think
- 15:24Speaker 3: this is a great deal for both. This is one
- 15:25Speaker 3: of those deals that listen, they come together early because
- 15:29Speaker 3: it works for both sides, and it's like the Josh
- 15:31Speaker 3: Naylor it works good.
- 15:35Speaker 4: AJ, We're gonna do things a little bit differently. Here.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I am wearing the Perfect Gene and I remember seeing
- 15:41Speaker 4: ads for the Perfect Gene like most comfortable fit ever,
- 15:45Speaker 4: perfect fit on your body, and I was like, I'm
- 15:49Speaker 4: not buying it. Now I'm buying it, and we're showing
- 15:53Speaker 4: it off on FT.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Plea, please get off my desk. First of all, Scott,
- 15:56Speaker 3: Second of all, I was with you. I was skeptical

- 16:35Speaker 1: It is hooked. Welcome back everybody to foul Territory. Almost
- 16:38Speaker 1: into our second hour of coverage here we start with
- 16:41Speaker 1: a Kei k Hernandez story. Apparently Kik was seen at
- 16:45Speaker 1: an airport and was ambushed by I'm assuming a fan
- 16:49Speaker 1: and they found out that he had surgery. David Vassey
- 16:52Speaker 1: on X after being ambushed at the airport by some guy,
- 16:55Speaker 1: ki Y, Hernandez announced he did have surgery on his
- 16:57Speaker 1: left elbow yesterday, so that would have been the fourteen
- 17:00Speaker 1: to repair his extension muscle. Hernandez will not be playing
- 17:04Speaker 1: in the World Baseball Classic for Puerto Rico, so obviously
- 17:07Speaker 1: something that was being played through AJ over the course
- 17:11Speaker 1: of the season because he hurt his elbow initially apparently
- 17:15Speaker 1: in May. So that says something about Kiki obviously playing
- 17:19Speaker 1: through it and we know how big he is in
- 17:21Speaker 1: the in the postseason.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Well. Also, listen, people are banged up all the time.
- 17:26Speaker 3: I think we don't always get the full story. But
- 17:28Speaker 3: what more to me is like I don't know about y'all,
- 17:31Speaker 3: but have y'all ever been ambushed at the Lax airport,
- 17:33Speaker 3: Because I have. It's weird.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I'm not that popular.
- 17:37Speaker 3: It is so weird. It has happened to me where
- 17:39Speaker 3: they're there and they're not looking for me. The it's
- 17:42Speaker 3: just some random guy happens to see you and he
- 17:44Speaker 3: will come up to you at the camera and stick
- 17:46Speaker 3: it right in your face and your baggage claim and
- 17:48Speaker 3: they are like, ask you some weird questions and usually
- 17:52Speaker 3: there's you know, usually a lot of times at LAX
- 17:54Speaker 3: you're either find in real early in the morning or
- 17:57Speaker 3: late at night, and they try to get you when
- 17:59Speaker 3: you're not ready for it. So it is. It can
- 18:01Speaker 3: be awkward at times. Happened to me a couple of times.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It is awkward.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I have been ambushed at other places in LA since
- 18:07Speaker 1: I lived there for seven years covering the Los Angeles Daughters,
- 18:10Speaker 1: but never at an airport. But I always look homeless
- 18:12Speaker 1: too when I'm traveling, so maybe they didn't realize it
- 18:15Speaker 1: was me because I look very different on TV than
- 18:17Speaker 1: I do in real life.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Homeless.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I look pretty rough when I'm not
- 18:23Speaker 1: on the.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Homeless rideout, like like you smell and everything.
- 18:27Speaker 1: No no, no, no, no, no, no, I'm very no.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I don't smell, but I dress like, you know, just
- 18:31Speaker 1: sweats and you just you know, very very very casual.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Like I just don't you have you have an outfit
- 18:38Speaker 2: that you put on and you try you you put
- 18:41Speaker 2: on basic casual like you're just you're you're put together casual.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I mean, I know, I mean I do have a
- 18:47Speaker 1: travel outfit now, pockets. You know, it's like sweats, super comfy.
- 18:53Speaker 1: But I've not been ambushed at the airport. But this
- 18:55Speaker 1: is a big deal for the World Baseball Classic and Eric,
- 18:58Speaker 1: I wanted to ask you this too, because Keik loves, loves,
- 19:00Speaker 1: loves playing in the WBC. He loves Puerto Rico obviously
- 19:05Speaker 1: where he was born. This is a big blow for
- 19:07Speaker 1: him and for Team Puerto.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Rico for sure, because he comes up in big situations
- 19:13Speaker 2: like I think KEYK has now put himself on the
- 19:16Speaker 2: map where he could be a guy where you're like, ah, whatever,
- 19:19Speaker 2: don't play in the don't play in the regular season.
- 19:21Speaker 2: So the WBC's as close as you're going to get
- 19:23Speaker 2: to the playoffs without it being the playoffs. So yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 2: it's a huge blow because he's also offers versatility. If
- 19:30Speaker 2: you look at highlights of the Dodgers past two World
- 19:33Speaker 2: Series and highlights of when he was in Boston, Like
- 19:37Speaker 2: he's playing all different positions, Like how many times are
- 19:40Speaker 2: you gonna be like, Oh yeah, Kyk, I remember that
- 19:42Speaker 2: play he made into one series at third base? Oh yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 2: remember that play he made in the most recent World
- 19:47Speaker 2: Series at left field. Like that's he adds tons of
- 19:53Speaker 2: value and he's clutched in these big moments.
- 19:56Speaker 1: He's massive. I don't care if Kiky hernandez Aj goes
- 20:00Speaker 1: for the regular season. You want him to be on
- 20:03Speaker 1: a postseason roster. You want him to be in the WBC.
- 20:08Speaker 1: But Andrew Friedman on Dodgers Territory early in the season
- 20:11Speaker 1: said that he couldn't believe the maturation process that Kik
- 20:14Speaker 1: went through. I mean, this was a guy that was
- 20:16Speaker 1: dancing in banana costumes with Justin Turner and Jack Peterson
- 20:20Speaker 1: on the plane. And then Andrew Friedman said he has
- 20:23Speaker 1: become such a massive leader in the Dodgers' clubhouse and dugout,
- 20:27Speaker 1: it's been quite the transformation for Kyk. Could he be
- 20:30Speaker 1: part of the WBC for Puerto Rico in some capacity
- 20:33Speaker 1: that you think would be beneficial.
- 20:35Speaker 3: They might just have him on the team and just
- 20:37Speaker 3: be like hanging around with the guys. He might just
- 20:39Speaker 3: get an opportunity to do that, so you don't have
- 20:41Speaker 3: to be playing in order to have a present. So
- 20:43Speaker 3: I think, yeah, they'll probably bring him in have him
- 20:46Speaker 3: hanging around if he's not healthy enough to be playing.
- 20:48Speaker 3: I don't know if the Dodgers is he a free agent?
- 20:51Speaker 1: Is they only signed a one year deal?
- 20:54Speaker 3: So if he's not signed by a team, why would
- 20:56Speaker 3: Puerto Rico not bring him in there? They can bring
- 20:58Speaker 3: him in as a coach or first base coach or
- 21:00Speaker 3: something pitching coach, I don't know, but just have him around,
- 21:03Speaker 3: have him hang out with the boys. And if he
- 21:04Speaker 3: is on a team, which we all would assume would
- 21:06Speaker 3: be the Dodgers, again, would the Dodgers let him do
- 21:09Speaker 3: that if he's going through rehab for an injury. I
- 21:11Speaker 3: don't know. We'll see, but he definitely should be a
- 21:13Speaker 3: part somehow of Puerto Rico's team.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe somehow as a special ambassador if you will.
- 21:19Speaker 1: This is a guy.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Uh.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Last season, gentlemen thirty four years old only hit two three,
- 21:23Speaker 1: two fifty five three sixty six with ten home runs,
- 21:26Speaker 1: but then you go to the postseason and he's just
- 21:29Speaker 1: another dude. Do you bring him back if you're la
- 21:33Speaker 1: Eric just for that reason.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean he even said it. He even said
- 21:38Speaker 2: it last year in spring training. He didn't like how
- 21:41Speaker 2: free agency went, but he was like, there's really only
- 21:44Speaker 2: two teams I would have gone to, and obviously everybody
- 21:46Speaker 2: knows I want to go back to the Dodgers, so
- 21:48Speaker 2: it's just gonna be a playoff team. I don't see.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I don't see how he doesn't. I don't see how
- 21:52Speaker 2: he doesn't. It's crazy because there's only a few spots
- 21:54Speaker 2: where you can have that utility role on a team.
- 21:58Speaker 2: But now that Chris Taylor's moved on, like I think,
- 22:01Speaker 2: he just easily slides into that role and he will
- 22:04Speaker 2: not hit two of three next year. So if there's
- 22:06Speaker 2: any Dodger haters out there, like we need somebody else
- 22:09Speaker 2: other than KEYK, just no, you did get other people,
- 22:12Speaker 2: Like they wanted Michael Confordo to be playing left field
- 22:15Speaker 2: in the playoffs. Well it didn't work out. So you
- 22:19Speaker 2: always have you always have KEYK. You need to offer
- 22:22Speaker 2: him to me. I think he needs to get a
- 22:23Speaker 2: multi year deal, but I guess that's just the player
- 22:25Speaker 2: at me too.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree with you. I'd love to see
- 22:27Speaker 1: him locked up to more than one deal. Let's move
- 22:29Speaker 1: our focus to Team USA. A couple of editions were
- 22:31Speaker 1: announced over the course of the weekend. Pete Carroll and
- 22:34Speaker 1: Pete Carroll. Yeah, by the way, he's retiring from football
- 22:37Speaker 1: and going to the WBC. Corbin Carroll and Pete crow
- 22:41Speaker 1: Armstrong are going to be on the WBC roster. Of course,
- 22:44Speaker 1: cal Rawly, who I still think should have been the MVP,
- 22:47Speaker 1: is going to catch great additions. Guys. I mean the WBC,
- 22:50Speaker 1: I think is increasing in popularity. We know as a
- 22:52Speaker 1: player that you love playing for your country. I think
- 22:55Speaker 1: it was more of the Latin countries perhaps more so,
- 22:58Speaker 1: but the USA seems to really be taking off in
- 23:00Speaker 1: terms of interest from big key names. AJ.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Yeah, well, if you went to the last one a lot,
- 23:05Speaker 3: I'm not sure. I went to the last one in Miami.
- 23:08Speaker 3: It was one of the coolest things I'd ever been to,
- 23:10Speaker 3: just because the fan experience and trust me, I went
- 23:12Speaker 3: to the Venezuela USA game. Venezuela, I'll number the US
- 23:16Speaker 3: fans like three or four to one. In Miami down
- 23:18Speaker 3: a Marlins Park, So I think that the USA and
- 23:21Speaker 3: the players that went to would have gotten a better
- 23:23Speaker 3: and better experience each time. And the bigger and bigger
- 23:26Speaker 3: names are coming in for it. I wish there was
- 23:28Speaker 3: a way to where we could have all the teams
- 23:29Speaker 3: at full strength, because Japan, to me, has the advantage
- 23:32Speaker 3: because their guys trained for months and months and months
- 23:34Speaker 3: get ready for this. USA kind of throws their team
- 23:36Speaker 3: together at the end as to a lot of the
- 23:38Speaker 3: other countries. But I wish there was a way we
- 23:40Speaker 3: could have everybody at full strength and see these guys,
- 23:43Speaker 3: these starting pitchers and handle this like a real tournament,
- 23:45Speaker 3: which it should be in the Olympics, and I don't
- 23:47Speaker 3: think they're ever going to allow that. But I love
- 23:50Speaker 3: that the big names are coming and saying yes, I
- 23:53Speaker 3: want to play for USA, Dominican and Japan, Puerto Rico,
- 23:56Speaker 3: whatever it is, because that shows you how much this
- 23:58Speaker 3: means and how much fun these guys are having.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I'd like to make sure that Major League Baseball, because
- 24:03Speaker 2: it was announced at the MLB Awards this past weekend.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I'd like just want to make sure Major League Baseball's
- 24:10Speaker 2: putting the same effort, and I don't know about resources.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I don't know how that works. But like, why is
- 24:17Speaker 2: Team USA major League Baseball's team, you know what I mean?
- 24:22Speaker 2: Like they're all big leaguers. Like why wouldn't Major League
- 24:26Speaker 2: Baseball make sure they're announcing when shohe says he's gonna
- 24:30Speaker 2: play for Team Japan or Team Samurai I think is
- 24:33Speaker 2: what they're called. And then why would they not announce
- 24:36Speaker 2: when ktel Marte is playing for the dr Like I
- 24:41Speaker 2: just because I've heard it from different groups that Major
- 24:46Speaker 2: League Baseball loves to like get behind Team USA, but
- 24:49Speaker 2: Major League Baseball is also a third not American players,
- 24:54Speaker 2: Like why are we Why are they not making such
- 24:57Speaker 2: a big deal out of it, Like they clearly flew Corbyn,
- 25:00Speaker 2: Carroll and PCA out to the Awards so that they
- 25:04Speaker 2: could announce it on stage with Mark de Rosa and
- 25:07Speaker 2: all all this popping circumstance, Like let's make sure the
- 25:11Speaker 2: other teams get there just due too.
- 25:15Speaker 1: That's a good question. I don't have an answer for that.
- 25:17Speaker 1: I don't know if it's because Major League Baseball, with
- 25:21Speaker 1: the exception of Toronto, is all in the United States,
- 25:24Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, I understand your point. I mean,
- 25:26Speaker 1: it's a global game, it's an international game. And to
- 25:28Speaker 1: your point, you know, a third of the players are
- 25:31Speaker 1: not of American United States descent. So I don't have
- 25:36Speaker 1: an answer for that. But yeah, I mean it's every
- 25:38Speaker 1: single player that is in the major leagues that makes
- 25:42Speaker 1: a team for the WBC should be announced as a member,
- 25:47Speaker 1: you know, as the members of the USA team are.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know how to answer that.
- 25:52Speaker 2: Like here's here's the example. The Miz came on the
- 25:55Speaker 2: show and AJ was like, I'm recruiting you for Team Poland.
- 26:00Speaker 2: If he announced it, if there was a Team Poland
- 26:03Speaker 2: and the Miz was like, yeah, I'm playing for Team Poland.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Would Major League Baseball get behind it as much as
- 26:10Speaker 2: they get behind Corbyn Carroll saying he's going to be
- 26:13Speaker 2: on the team, PCA saying he's going to be on
- 26:14Speaker 2: the team because there's there's some cash behind there, and
- 26:17Speaker 2: I'm sure if Team Poland somehow figured out a way
- 26:20Speaker 2: to get in, they would need some cash from Major
- 26:23Speaker 2: League Baseball.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I don't know, that's a great point that I've never
- 26:30Speaker 1: thought about that like that, I'm not certain why it's
- 26:35Speaker 1: not handled that way. I don't know if it's because
- 26:38Speaker 1: it's taken I think more time for USA to treat
- 26:42Speaker 1: it as a big deal like the other. I mean,
- 26:44Speaker 1: you ask any Latin player, it's more important for them
- 26:48Speaker 1: to play for the WBC and win for Venezuela or
- 26:52Speaker 1: you know, the Dominican or Puerto Rico or whatever than
- 26:56Speaker 1: it is to win the World Series. I mean, they
- 26:58Speaker 1: care seemingly outwardly. I don't want to put any any
- 27:02Speaker 1: words into American you know, North American players mouths or
- 27:05Speaker 1: USA players mouths, but they seem to care more about
- 27:09Speaker 1: winning for their country than they do about winning for
- 27:12Speaker 1: their respective Major League Baseball team. Maybe I'm wrong, but
- 27:15Speaker 1: that's the outside perspective. I have the optics anyway.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Okay, I mean I think I think they. I think
- 27:23Speaker 2: they have that national pride, and I think they're used
- 27:26Speaker 2: to when you talk about the when you talk about
- 27:29Speaker 2: the teams that or yeah, the countries that have winter leagues,
- 27:34Speaker 2: yeah they I mean they essentially go into winter league mode.
- 27:37Speaker 2: This is what we'd call it when we were playing,
- 27:39Speaker 2: Like winter league mode is you're you're getting up for
- 27:42Speaker 2: every single game like your dudes are just I forget
- 27:46Speaker 2: AJ you were at the game. I forget what the
- 27:48Speaker 2: what was the dude's name? Who was shirt was coming
- 27:50Speaker 2: all the way unbuttoned like that was like it personified
- 27:54Speaker 2: the you know, the energy that they would bring to
- 27:58Speaker 2: those games. And that's you know, some of them are
- 28:00Speaker 2: coming straight off of winter Ball. They're playing in the
- 28:03Speaker 2: in the Winter Ball Championships, and then they're coming to
- 28:07Speaker 2: spring training for a few weeks and then they go
- 28:09Speaker 2: straight to the WBC. So yeah, there's a there's there's
- 28:13Speaker 2: a pride there that I think. I think American players
- 28:16Speaker 2: have the same pride. I just think it's it's shown
- 28:19Speaker 2: differently because they're used to playing. When they get to
- 28:21Speaker 2: play with each other, it's it's a treat.
- 28:27Speaker 1: I just love the WBC and I love that it's
- 28:29Speaker 1: growing in popularity. I think it's awesome.
- 28:31Speaker 3: You guys, You guys want to know why MLB pushes
- 28:33Speaker 3: the American players. Yes, I mean, how do we know
- 28:35Speaker 3: that japan players aren't big? Donelike this? In Japan, we
- 28:38Speaker 3: don't know. We just don't see it. How do we
- 28:40Speaker 3: know in Dominican when whoever announces that they're playing for
- 28:43Speaker 3: the Dominican we don't see it, right, No, I think,
- 28:45Speaker 3: I think.
- 28:46Speaker 1: But I think. Eric's point though, is that MLB should
- 28:49Speaker 1: be promoting any any Major League Baseball player that is
- 28:52Speaker 1: going to play for their respective team, whether it's Venezuela
- 28:55Speaker 1: or the Dominican or Team Mexico. MLB should promote them
- 28:58Speaker 1: just as much as they promote the US.
- 29:01Speaker 3: What drives ratings in America and what drives ratings and
- 29:04Speaker 3: help some MLB game money the American television audience. Right
- 29:09Speaker 3: what does USA had a hard time getting people to
- 29:11Speaker 3: do their big name stars play for him? So when
- 29:13Speaker 3: they get big name people, yes, MLB is gonna push
- 29:16Speaker 3: it because that's where the money comes from. Listen, it's
- 29:18Speaker 3: great that everyone plays for Dominican. It's great that everyone
- 29:21Speaker 3: plays for Puerto Rico. It's great that these guys play
- 29:24Speaker 3: for Japan, and these guys play for Panama and Netherlands
- 29:27Speaker 3: and this and that. Now, it was a big deal
- 29:29Speaker 3: MLB announcement. Alex Rodriguez and Manny Machada wanted to play
- 29:33Speaker 3: for Dominican right now because they could have played for America.
- 29:36Speaker 3: So to me, it's the reason. It's all about money.
- 29:38Speaker 3: Money drives this thing. Money is the reason they have
- 29:40Speaker 3: this thing, and the American consumers are it's the finals
- 29:45Speaker 3: are in America. The semi finals are in America, Major
- 29:48Speaker 3: Leagues Baseball stadiums, and MLB owns it. So MLB knows
- 29:52Speaker 3: who is going to buy the tickets, more than likely
- 29:54Speaker 3: people that live in the USA. So they are pushing
- 29:57Speaker 3: this and they want the biggest stars for America because
- 30:00Speaker 3: then they can get the American audience to tune in.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Because I don't know the ratings, but I'm pretty sure
- 30:04Speaker 3: rating for Dominican versus Colombia is not as high for
- 30:07Speaker 3: rating for USA versus Mexico, or USA verse Japan, or
- 30:12Speaker 3: USA vers Dominican. I'm pretty sure the ratings are probably higher,
- 30:15Speaker 3: especially in the one base where MLB cares about, and
- 30:18Speaker 3: that's the United States of America.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Guys. This from Bob Nightingale on X the official twenty
- 30:23Speaker 1: twenty six Hall of Fame ballot with twelve new candidates.
- 30:26Speaker 1: It is out. I'm not gonna go through all of
- 30:27Speaker 1: the names, but you can see them there. AJ will
- 30:30Speaker 1: start with you, is there anybody on this list of
- 30:32Speaker 1: a newcomer in terms of Hall of Fame that sticks
- 30:35Speaker 1: out to you?
- 30:36Speaker 3: Nope? Nope? Are you There's not one that's gonna make it.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I don't know.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Oh, there's not one that's gonna make it, Okay.
- 30:45Speaker 3: I mean I guess Cole Hammill's, but I don't think
- 30:48Speaker 3: he's gonna make it. I don't know. Ryan Bron's definitely
- 30:51Speaker 3: not making it. I don't know. I looked at the
- 30:54Speaker 3: list and I was like, Eh, I don't really see
- 30:57Speaker 3: a whole lot. Matt Camp's not gonna make it of
- 31:00Speaker 3: she's I just don't see when that's gonna make it.
- 31:04Speaker 3: I'm sorry. They're just they're great players, but there weren't
- 31:07Speaker 3: Hall of Fame worthy. They're just they're just weren't. And
- 31:09Speaker 3: that's It's gonna be interesting to see who stays on
- 31:11Speaker 3: the list for another year. But uh, you know, it
- 31:14Speaker 3: looks like who's gonna get a Beltron's probably gonna get in,
- 31:17Speaker 3: and Andrew Jones are probably gonna get in this year,
- 31:19Speaker 3: and then that opens it up for some other people.
- 31:21Speaker 3: But it'd be interesting to see who gets the votes
- 31:23Speaker 3: this year, because I honestly don't think that, uh, anybody
- 31:28Speaker 3: on this newcomer list is gonna make it.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I feel like I see Jimmy Rawlins and Chase Utley
- 31:32Speaker 1: on these all of the time. If you had to
- 31:34Speaker 1: pick one of the two, Eric, who do you think
- 31:36Speaker 1: is more Hall of Fame worthy? If either, I mean I.
- 31:40Speaker 2: Played with both of them. I play like this whole
- 31:42Speaker 2: list isn't first timers. So I want to know who
- 31:45Speaker 2: from this list is first timers? Is it Braun, Gordo,
- 31:51Speaker 2: Cole Hammils since you chew, probably Edwin Murphy, Geo Gonzalez Murphy.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Anyway, take it, Hollie Kendrick. Those are all.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Okay, so maybe like the top the top guys there,
- 32:09Speaker 2: But to me, I don't, I don't. I feel like
- 32:14Speaker 2: I feel like Jimmy's going to I don't know, I
- 32:18Speaker 2: feel like Jimmy's going to get in before Chase.
- 32:23Speaker 1: But it's worthy of getting in. I mean, I think
- 32:25Speaker 1: the longer it goes, and the more opportunities there are
- 32:28Speaker 1: for guys to get in, more people that probably shouldn't
- 32:31Speaker 1: be in the Hall if there's if the if there
- 32:34Speaker 1: were stricter restrictions or fewer guys that got in, I
- 32:37Speaker 1: don't know that any of these would. I mean, eventually
- 32:39Speaker 1: they might because of all of the different avenues of
- 32:42Speaker 1: getting into Cooper's town, But should they get in?
- 32:46Speaker 2: I think Jeff Kent's a better second basement and put
- 32:49Speaker 2: up better numbers than Chase Uttley. So I think it's
- 32:52Speaker 2: tough to say Chase Utley will get in before you
- 32:55Speaker 2: hear that the Jeff Kent because Chase Uttley. I mean,
- 32:57Speaker 2: everyone says Jeff Kent was a jerk or what and
- 33:00Speaker 2: that's why he's not it.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Like just.
- 33:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's not the Hall of Good person, it's
- 33:05Speaker 1: the Hall of the name. All right, we welcome you
- 33:08Speaker 1: back here. So this is a question from Jen Abbas
- 33:11Speaker 1: fifty three eighty. Are any of them in the Hall
- 33:14Speaker 1: of pretty Good? And I believe that she's talking about
- 33:17Speaker 1: because AJ Prazinski, you received ninety one percent of the
- 33:20Speaker 1: vote to become the twentieth member of the Hall of
- 33:23Speaker 1: Pretty Good and the fifth member AJ of the Illustrious
- 33:27Speaker 1: Inner Circle. You're in the Circle of Trust, my friend. Congratulations.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I think you're better than the Hall of Pretty Good.
- 33:33Speaker 1: But that's neither here nor there. So there you have it.
- 33:35Speaker 1: So are any of these guys on the twenty twenty
- 33:38Speaker 1: six Hall of Fame ballot, the new names that we
- 33:41Speaker 1: talked about, are any of them good enough to be
- 33:44Speaker 1: in the Hall of Pretty Good?
- 33:46Speaker 3: I think Hunter Pence is already in the Hall of
- 33:49Speaker 3: Pretty Good. I'm pretty sure he already got in. Yeah,
- 33:52Speaker 3: I think I think he already got in. So congratulations
- 33:54Speaker 3: to Hunter. Listen, All of pretty Good is a really
- 33:57Speaker 3: funny thing that a fan came up with where he like,
- 34:00Speaker 3: he asks fans to vote on this, and it's engaging.
- 34:03Speaker 3: It's funny to see who gets in and who doesn't
- 34:05Speaker 3: because some people I think should have got in didn't
- 34:07Speaker 3: get in. But it's like, I think it's every Wednesday
- 34:10Speaker 3: they do the voting. So yeah, it was pretty cool
- 34:12Speaker 3: to see that. And now there's a list of about
- 34:17Speaker 3: what fifteen new guys that just went on the Hall
- 34:19Speaker 3: of Fame ballot that have a chance to both but
- 34:22Speaker 3: they're not going to get into the Hall of Fame,
- 34:24Speaker 3: but they got a chance to get into the Hall
- 34:25Speaker 3: pretty Good, which for some of us is an honor.
- 34:27Speaker 1: All right, guys, So, Blake but Terra is the new
- 34:30Speaker 1: manager of the Washington Nationals. He is supposed to have
- 34:33Speaker 1: a press conference today or he did have it today
- 34:35Speaker 1: actually at one point thirty so about an hour and
- 34:38Speaker 1: change ago when we were on the air. It's been
- 34:40Speaker 1: eighteen days though since the news first broke that the
- 34:42Speaker 1: Nats were hiring him, but I think it's because his
- 34:45Speaker 1: wife just had a baby, so they had to delay
- 34:47Speaker 1: the presser. Congratulations to them. So here's the cool story
- 34:51Speaker 1: apparently that came out of the presser from Paul to
- 34:54Speaker 1: Boni that must be Italian. When he was just starting
- 34:57Speaker 1: search Hall of Fame catcher Mike Piazza actually call all
- 35:00Speaker 1: to Bonnie to tell him about how but Terra would
- 35:03Speaker 1: be a great candidate for the job. Piazza and Terra,
- 35:07Speaker 1: the Italians, I tell you, man, we stick together. They
- 35:09Speaker 1: worked on the same team Italy staff at the w
- 35:12Speaker 1: b C. So, first of all, AJ your thoughts about
- 35:15Speaker 1: but Terra and I have to be honest. I didn't
- 35:17Speaker 1: know much about him. When I saw the Butteran name,
- 35:19Speaker 1: I thought it was Drew, not Blake. What do you
- 35:21Speaker 1: think about about this move?
- 35:26Speaker 3: Cool? The Nationals are relevant at all, So I mean cool,
- 35:33Speaker 3: he gets a job and he gets to like it's awesome,
- 35:35Speaker 3: Mike Piazza, this is how things work now, Thana, I mean,
- 35:38Speaker 3: have you paid attention? By the way, you always say
- 35:39Speaker 3: you're Cuban, so you're Italian.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I don't know I
- 35:44Speaker 1: have two parents. That's weird.
- 35:46Speaker 2: I have.
- 35:46Speaker 1: I have a mom and a dad. One's Cuban, one's Italian.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Weird.
- 35:50Speaker 3: You always say you're Cuban, so you can't just go
- 35:52Speaker 3: Cuban to Italian. Well okay, but that's not the point here.
- 35:57Speaker 3: The point is that as a as I'm Italian, I'm
- 36:00Speaker 3: sure there's one little piece of me that's Italian. So
- 36:03Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you too, Okay, I'm a Tellian man
- 36:08Speaker 3: a little bit of Okay. But here's the thing, Like
- 36:11Speaker 3: this how works now, Alana, Like you got to know
- 36:13Speaker 3: somebody who knows somebody and you get him to call,
- 36:16Speaker 3: or you work in for the Rays at some point,
- 36:18Speaker 3: or you work in an organization and then all of
- 36:21Speaker 3: a sudden they're looking for a manager and you sit
- 36:22Speaker 3: in all the meetings like Craig Stamley're like, you know what,
- 36:24Speaker 3: I could do that job, and I have all the
- 36:25Speaker 3: answers because I already have to test. This is how
- 36:28Speaker 3: it works in today's game. So I'm not surprised by this.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Good for good for mister but Terra. I hope it
- 36:34Speaker 3: works out for him. We'll see. But like the Nats
- 36:37Speaker 3: aren't relevant because they're being sold, they don't spending money,
- 36:39Speaker 3: and they're in a tough division.
- 36:41Speaker 1: All right, so Eric, but Tara did not make a
- 36:43Speaker 1: big deal about his youth or really honestly lack of
- 36:47Speaker 1: managerial experience. Interestingly, he did not say he was prioritizing
- 36:52Speaker 1: experience on his staff. You know, sometimes you want to
- 36:55Speaker 1: like get veteran guys around you to have some help,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and staid he said he was looking for people that
- 37:00Speaker 1: align with his vision and coaches who were the best candidates.
- 37:04Speaker 1: I don't know what your vision is. If you don't
- 37:05Speaker 1: have any managerial experience at the big league level.
- 37:11Speaker 2: That's a good question. And as a ex player, I
- 37:15Speaker 2: have to be careful. I got eviscerated when I made
- 37:17Speaker 2: my comments that a player development guy doesn't necessarily know
- 37:23Speaker 2: about making big league moves or big league like the
- 37:26Speaker 2: day to day big league grind to me. I would
- 37:29Speaker 2: want to surround myself, and this is how I think,
- 37:33Speaker 2: I hope I live my life. I want to surround
- 37:35Speaker 2: myself with people who know more than me in a
- 37:38Speaker 2: situation that I'm in, so that I can learn from them.
- 37:40Speaker 2: If you're constantly just surrounding yourself with like people in
- 37:45Speaker 2: any walk of life. You're just gonna stay. You're just
- 37:49Speaker 2: gonna stay kind of flatline and like it's just gonna
- 37:52Speaker 2: be the same you and you're never gonna improve. So
- 37:54Speaker 2: to me, I hope he has some kind of backing
- 37:58Speaker 2: from somebody that has experience in the big leagues because
- 38:04Speaker 2: he's the manager in the big leagues and he has
- 38:07Speaker 2: to manage personalities in the big leagues. I just I
- 38:12Speaker 2: think it's something that it was interesting what came out
- 38:15Speaker 2: of it. But I'll actually want to revert back to
- 38:18Speaker 2: what AJ said, The Gnats are not relevant. Had the
- 38:22Speaker 2: Nats gotten somebody, another manager, a different manager, AJ, would
- 38:29Speaker 2: they have Would it have made them relevant? Would it
- 38:31Speaker 2: have made them relevant if they went out and got
- 38:33Speaker 2: the best managerial candidate available, which in my opinion, which
- 38:37Speaker 2: is all just opinion, you know, it's a Skip Schumacher,
- 38:41Speaker 2: It's possibly, you know, Brandon Hyde was in the area,
- 38:44Speaker 2: depending on what you thought of Brandon Hyde. But like,
- 38:47Speaker 2: if they had gotten somebody relevant, does that change this
- 38:51Speaker 2: season and next season for the Nets?
- 38:55Speaker 3: They have to spend money. How did Jim Leland do?
- 38:59Speaker 3: How did Jim Leland do for the Rockies when he
- 39:01Speaker 3: went to the Rockies, I mean, he's a Hall of
- 39:03Speaker 3: Fame manager. How did he do? And by the way,
- 39:07Speaker 3: but he went to the Rockies and he was terrible
- 39:09Speaker 3: as a manager, right, So because he didn't have any players.
- 39:11Speaker 3: You don't have any players, you don't go out and
- 39:13Speaker 3: get players, then you can't be a good I don't
- 39:15Speaker 3: care who you are. You could be the greatest manager
- 39:17Speaker 3: in the world and not have players. Joe Torre was terrible.
- 39:20Speaker 3: You know, he was not regarded as a great manager
- 39:23Speaker 3: when he was with the Braves, right, and Terry Francona
- 39:25Speaker 3: when he was at the Phillies got fired because they
- 39:27Speaker 3: weren't very good. And then he goes to the Rockies
- 39:29Speaker 3: and he has all the I mean the Red Sox
- 39:31Speaker 3: and he has all these great players. He's a great manager.
- 39:33Speaker 3: So if you don't have players, it doesn't matter. The
- 39:35Speaker 3: Nats aren't. They have already said they're not gonna go
- 39:37Speaker 3: out and spend money. And here's the thing about his
- 39:39Speaker 3: quote about I'm not a prioritizing experience. You gotta have
- 39:44Speaker 3: somebody on the staff that knows what they're doing. No, listen,
- 39:48Speaker 3: I'm sorry, but like he's what thirty three I think
- 39:50Speaker 3: his pitching coach is thirty, like he hired the assistant
- 39:54Speaker 3: hitting coach. I think he's twenty nine or something, thirty
- 39:56Speaker 3: two or whatever they are, Like, you got to have
- 39:59Speaker 3: somebody that has some linked in their tooth a little
- 40:01Speaker 3: bit that have been around and not everybody going into
- 40:04Speaker 3: spring training going what do we do? Guys, Oh, we're
- 40:07Speaker 3: gonna try and reinvent the wheel. Well, there's been guys
- 40:09Speaker 3: that have reinvented the wheel. Gabe Kappler for years try
- 40:12Speaker 3: to reinvent the wheel in San Francisco. It didn't work
- 40:14Speaker 3: for him, right, Philadelphia didn't work. There's people that try
- 40:17Speaker 3: and invent this. Now, why does it work for somebody
- 40:19Speaker 3: like Joe Madden when he tried to reinvent the wheel
- 40:21Speaker 3: because he had put in time after time after time
- 40:24Speaker 3: with the Angels, and he had been in the big
- 40:26Speaker 3: leagues and he had understood how players and this and that.
- 40:28Speaker 3: If you have nobody that understands how to do this
- 40:30Speaker 3: and just everybody is brand new, and we're like, we're
- 40:33Speaker 3: just gonna find the people that agree with me and
- 40:34Speaker 3: we'll just try everything new. It usually doesn't work. You
- 40:38Speaker 3: gotta have some experience to slowly implement it. You just
- 40:40Speaker 3: can't throw it all out there and hope it sticks.
- 40:54Speaker 1: All right, gentlemen, it is time to slap hands. We
- 40:58Speaker 1: don't have a ton of time left on the show. Eric,
- 41:00Speaker 1: I want to ask you what's on Kratz Hats today?
- 41:04Speaker 2: I mean where Josh Nayler Columbus Clippers. Okay, Josh Naylor
- 41:09Speaker 2: just signed his contract, so might as well celebrate an
- 41:13Speaker 2: ex Columbus Clipper get in paper.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Yeah he got the bag, didn't he?
- 41:17Speaker 2: Five years?
- 41:18Speaker 1: Did they say the amount yet? Are we thinking one
- 41:20Speaker 1: hundred millions? Not yet? All right, so five years? Good
- 41:22Speaker 1: for you, Josh Naylor. A big show tomorrow on Foul Territory.
- 41:25Speaker 1: I'm back with you guys again tomorrow. Astro's manager Joe Aspota,
- 41:29Speaker 1: White Sox pitcher Shane Smith. Evan Grant is going to
- 41:31Speaker 1: be doing his to do list much like Lance Lynn
- 41:34Speaker 1: did today for the Cardinals. Evan Grant of the Dallas
- 41:37Speaker 1: Morning News is going to be doing it for the
- 41:38Speaker 1: Rangers as far as the off season is concerned. So
- 41:42Speaker 1: we'll talk about that and much more. Scott Brown will
- 41:44Speaker 1: be back with you guys on Wednesday. Coming up in
- 41:48Speaker 1: just a few minutes. Dodgers Territory is back on Mondays
- 41:51Speaker 1: and Thursdays in the off season. Ah I will be
- 41:54Speaker 1: hosting that with my co host Clint Psias. We're talking
- 41:57Speaker 1: about shush, shush. You're such a weird you don't mean
- 42:01Speaker 1: to me. Be nice to me tomorrow. Thanks for watching, guys,
- 42:04Speaker 1: thanks for listening. Aj Eric and myself back tomorrow, See
- 42:07Speaker 1: you later.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Go baters.
- 42:12Speaker 4: Yeah,
