- 1:41SPEAKER_02: How are you today?
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: You just got back from your your uh bachelorette party.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Yes, or as you not today, but not today, but like two days ago, and you guys would call it a hen do, right?
- 1:53SPEAKER_02: Yes, I learned that, so I went on I went on a a s a stagdoo last two weeks ago, and I've got another one next week.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: But it's all coming up at the moment.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Praying for your liver.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: It was it was definitely a lot.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: But yeah, so it's yours.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: So how long until you get married then?
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: Um I am getting married on August 28th.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: So amazing.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's coming up this summer, but definitely uh this weekend primed me for you know talking about sinning, morality, all of that.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: It's perfect.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: Good segue.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, perfect, right?
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, so you're you're okay now, you're coping, you you've dealt with I saw what happened to your what okay, so I saw what happened to you, but please explain what happened there with your your lip.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Okay, so we went to Key West in Florida, where I mean, you know, in America there's really no rules, but specifically in Florida, there's really no rules.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: So, you know, just falls to the wall.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: But, anyways, um, I am nearly 30 and I am just starting to learn how to take care of my body, uh, which is a good time.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Um, and I finally was like, okay, I'm gonna stop pretending that I can get a tan and I'm gonna put on 50 SPF, I'm gonna protect myself, but then instead of sunscreen, you know, of that, I I I put on lip gloss.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: So, like instead of a chapstick with SPF, I put on lip gloss, and I think that really actually attracted the sun.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: It was like, come, come hither.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: So um, I woke up the day we were leaving, and it was like three times the size.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: I already have kind of big lips.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Um and then the day later it got even worse.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: And people were like, you need to go to the doctor.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: And I was like, it's gonna be fine.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: It'll go and it eventually just went down.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: I was shocked that it went on its own.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: I thought I was gonna have to get like a steroid or something.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:01SPEAKER_02: I thought you burnt your lip or something.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, the sun did burn it quite badly.
- 4:06SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it technically it did burn it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: But I thought you were like, I don't know.
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I don't know what happened.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just like on a stove or something.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: No.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, it was it was pretty rough.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: But other than that, the trip was really fun.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: There Key West, I had never been there.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: I can't recommend it enough.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: There's like roosters running around everywhere and lizards.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: It's it's a strange place.
- 4:30SPEAKER_02: Roosters and lizards.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, it's like such a strange combination of animals.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: But it was really fun.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: You know, I bachelorette parties are really fun.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I always have a good time.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm kind of well, the one that the ones that well the the the stagdos that we went on.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: So one one was um the one we went on was in uh Bournemouth, which is about uh an hour no two hours south of London, where I am.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: Um so we drive we just drove down there, stayed the night in a hotel.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: It was just a very but because like of everything going on at the moment, we couldn't get into a lot of places.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: So we kind of it was it was very tame compared to what it is.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 5:14SPEAKER_02: What it usually is.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: The next one is in London, and we have it all booked out, and it's like just after everything opens up again.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: So I think it's gonna be a lot wilder.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: No, that's so smart.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Well, I was gonna do mine in April, but things were still kind of not great, so I pushed it to July.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Um, thinking we'll be able to do whatever we want.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: Even though I'm gonna be honest, like COVID didn't really exist in Florida ever.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: But what a shock for Florida.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: I they just were like, wow, it's just not here.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: So um so I could have gone, but yeah, I wanted to wait until like all the restaurants were open and everything was good.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, of course.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: Like it the thing is the first one, when it was originally planned out and everything, it was uh because we had like we were supposed to open up again on June 19th, I think, and then it got delayed another month, so uh like it would have been op everything would have been open at the time, but it was it got very sad.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, we're almost like bummer.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: We're just like, okay, we're just gonna keep it very calm and and and at midnight.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: And that's it, and we're gonna like drink and tell stories around the fire.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: And that's that's that's pretty much how it was, yeah.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: In its own right, yeah, you know?
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_02: But it sounds like you had a great time anyway, on your one.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: We went on a boat, we went to a drag show, that was really fun.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Um, that was a highlight, and yeah, it was just it was just a great gal's weekend, you know.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's nice.
- 6:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:49SPEAKER_02: And now you've got um a month and a half to recover.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Yes, to recover and plus continue planning the wedding, and then also I'm moving during this time.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: So I just doing to yourself.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I am like, how can I make myself have a mental breakdown and let me do all of that?
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: And that's what I'm doing.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: So just how long until you move?
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: God, like two weeks.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Nothing is packed.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Nothing is packed.
- 7:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I can see nothing is packed.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: We're just we're winging it.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Just gonna pack the morning of or something.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's how you gotta do it.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: Figure it out.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Wing it and then win and then wing the wedding.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm just gonna, you know, I have said before, like, your wedding vows are really just a type five.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: Like that's all it is, so I don't even need to plan it.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: Well, that's the thing.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: You're a comedian, so you'll you'll be able to like make it up as you go.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll just improvise.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: That's fine.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Um it's perfect.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you've come on today to talk about uh the movie.
- 7:55SPEAKER_02: Well, we've had we've had some like a a weird lead into this.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: So like originally you picked the movie Um Simply Irresistible.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: Yes, and I would like to uh I don't know, I guess like clear my name for that.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: So, so yes, when you first asked me, I was like, okay, yeah, I'll pick something really kooky.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: And I remembered this movie Simply Irresistible from when I was growing up, and it stars uh Sarah Michelle Geller.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: And I am not exaggerating, it is about a woman who takes over her uh late mother's restaurant and she's lost and she's looking for guidance, and her late mother comes back to her in the form of a crab that she finds at a farmer's market.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's not where I thought was going, but nope.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: And then, like, she isn't as good as a of a chef as her mom, and she brings the the crab into the restaurant and it it makes her food amazing, and then like also makes her fall in love with this guy.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: I was like, Yeah, that's perfect.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: It's a movie you wouldn't think of, and no one else will pick it.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: And I started watching it, re-watching it, just so I made sure I knew what to talk about and everything, and I was like, oh my god, um, no, this movie is horrible and deserves its rating, and that's not the point of the show.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna scrap that.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: The the weird thing is the movie you're describing is like half ratatouille.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: It is like but just sounds like done badly.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: It is a bad ratatouille, and the the crab is like the I think it was the movie was made in '98 or '99, so the crab is like a horrible, like little animatronic thing that they got.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: It's it's just it's just bad.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: And I was like, I can't, I cannot in good conscience defend this movie.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Like, not gonna happen.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so then so then you message me and you're like, okay, I need to pick something else.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, can I pick Tommy Boy?
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: And in I didn't even think about it.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: I was like, yeah, sure, you can pick Tommy Boy, whatever.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's fine.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: That's a movie people love, and and uh I'm I think it has a bad rating.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: And then last night I was doing some research and realized it's too high.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: It's too well rated.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: And so in a panic, what is this rating?
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: It yeah, it's like 45 or something.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: So it's like so close.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: It's like just close, like just about too high.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: And I still, yeah, I would totally defend that it should have gotten a much higher rating.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: It's a really good movie, it's a fun buddy.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Fun buddy comedy, and like, yeah, it's just feel good.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: It's one of my top ten comedies, I would say.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: So, you know, for for another time, but uh not on this show.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: So so then we finally settled on Little Nikki.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: Yes, little Nikki, the 2000 Adam Sandler comedy.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: Um okay.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: First first of all, uh let me describe the premise of it, and then we can go into like what made you kind of d uh settle on this movie.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: So basically, it's about one of uh it's not Satan, it's one of uh like what is he?
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Uh what is Hardy Kitella?
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: He's just called dad, so like what is he in this he is so in this reality um there's not just one devil, but there is one at a time, kind of like a king.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: So he is aging out, um his one of his sons is supposed to take over.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: So one of the sons is supposed to take over, and it's one one of the three sons that he has.
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: Um, and one of them is very strong, one of them is very smart, and then there's Nikki, who is this like almost innocent, kind of feeble man with like a kind of a speech impediment because he got hit in the face by a shovel and he's a little bit emo.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, the hair.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he talks weirdly, and it's like he's he doesn't want to become the ruler.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: He wants his dad to stay as the ruler, essentially.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Um because he he's also afraid of his two other brothers.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Um but his two other brothers find out basically the dad decides he's gonna rule for another 10,000 years.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: And that angers the two other brothers so much that they decide they're gonna go to Earth and take over and make a hell on Earth.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: And Nikki is sent to go and bring them back because the the the dad will die and like evaporate if they don't come back.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Um so that's the basic premise of the movie.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: It's it's wild.
- 12:47SPEAKER_02: Um what uh what made you want to pick this one in particular?
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: So definitely um Adam Sandler was it his movies were huge for me growing up.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: You know, it was the time that I was exactly.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: It's the time we were growing up.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, all of his movies were were really, really big.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: And this one was in 2000, so I was like 10 years old, and I remember going to see it in the theater with my family.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Um, so I would argue, I know that it has some things that are not, you know, totally uh PG, I guess, but it is really a family film.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: Like it is a it's about a family.
- 13:30SPEAKER_02: It's about a family.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you could call it a family film, but it's about a family.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: For my family, it was like a feel-good family film.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Um, no, but it's it's probably not technically a family film.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: But, you know, um, it was, I think, now looking back, not being that age, uh, one of Adam Sandler's better, like, character-driven movies, you know, he he had this uh, you know, with Waterboy and and things like that, where, you know, he was on SNL, he was an amazing sketch actor, and this is kind of like he really got to do that.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: He got to basically make a long sketch.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Um, and I really love those kind of movies.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Um, it was also, I really think, a unique concept.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: I had never unique, yeah.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Like, how often do we see a movie about the devil and his sons?
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Uh it's it's interesting and it was a re it was a very uh smart concept, I think.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Uh done well.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: The production design was amazing, especially for the time.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Well, do you know how much it costs to make this movie?
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: No, let's I I'm like, should I pull up the Wikipedia?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: How much did it cost?
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: You have it, okay.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: It caught this movie cost 85 million.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: So thank God that the uh that the production design was good.
- 15:05SPEAKER_02: And however, it made 58 million worldwide.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay, fair.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: So Which for an Adam Sandler movie is surprising.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: It is surprising because peak Adam Sandler as well.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Peak, he was at, you know, the highest he could be.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: That was like the late 90s to the early 2000s.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: He was just cranking out hits.
- 15:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: So I actually like when I saw that this was one of the movies that had a low rating, I was actually really shocked because I would have thought that like, you know, Rotten Tomatoes would have the people who were reviewing the I don't know.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I'm not sure.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: But it was um the it didn't have plot holes, shockingly, because it's such an insane concept, but like everything made sense.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: They built a reality and they stayed within it.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 15:54SPEAKER_02: That is true.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: It does stay within its what reality, yeah.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, nothing was like completely out of the ordinary.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Let's let's also talk about uh the amount of cameos that were in the world.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Huge.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Absolutely huge.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Rodney Dangerfield, was that one of his last films?
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: It has to have been one of his last films.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: I don't know how like when did he die?
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: He must have died around that time.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: I think he's gonna be.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: So he made Yeah, it's about Yeah, it's pretty much one of his last films.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Like he's made like three or four after that.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: But yeah.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: But this must have been one of the more memorable ones, I'm sure.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I haven't heard of anything after that.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Um Patricia Arquette.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Patricia Arquette.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: She's a heavy hitter.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: Quentin Tarantino.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Like, also, we got an Aussie cameo.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: An Aussie cameo, yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: I remember specifically when Nikki goes to heaven, so I don't know if we we need to explain this for listeners, but you know, um, we find out, spoiler alert, that um Nikki is part angel, and that's why he is the way that he is.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: So his mother was an angel, his his father was a demon, and they met they met at a mixer, which I think is just so cute, like a heaven-hell thing.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: It's very, you know, frat party-esque.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: Um and you know, he goes to heaven and you're like, oh my gosh, like who's his mom gonna be?
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: And it's Reese Witherspoon.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: Just incredible.
- 17:38SPEAKER_02: It's one of the moments, like, so I saw this as a kid, like when it came out.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: Um I think I saw it on, I think I saw it on like rented it a blockbuster or something when it came out.
- 17:48SPEAKER_02: Like I didn't see I didn't see it in theatres or anything, but I remember really wanting to see it.
- 17:54SPEAKER_02: Um I would have been 11 when this came out.
- 17:58SPEAKER_02: So um yeah, I was 11 when this came out, so it's like I was the perfect audience for this as well.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: And I remember being so like my mind was blown when Brees Witherspoon was the mum in this.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: Cause like I'd just seen I think I'd just seen I must have just seen uh Legally Blonde as well.
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: Of course.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: And so I was like, oh wow, it's her from Legally Blonde and like Adam Sandler, and um I think I was like just learning about like starting to learn about movies as well.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: So I was like, oh and Harvey Kaitel is the dad, and like so I it's a huge cast.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Huge castino.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is like so strange that he was in this.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Um, but with Reese, like I don't even want to say she was at her prime because she's killing it lately.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Um she just kind of never stopped.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: She was on the come up here, I feel like.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: But sh yes, she was having definitely her her come up where all of the you know, Sweet Home, Alabama, Legally Blonde, like all those movies I think were happening at the same time.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: So everyone when they saw Reese was like, oh my god.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Um, and the the thing that I think people really love about or loved he's not been cranking out great ones lately, but about Adam Sandler movies is that he always cast all of his friends.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: It was like the chemistry on set obviously was great because he was casting all of this, you know, the same people that he loves hanging out with, like Dana from SNL and like Rob Schneider and all these people.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Um, and so it was kind of like, you know, familiar faces, it's a party.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: Uh that's that's what I would say.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I think the the like feeling that this movie kind of had.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: It was like it's a party.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: It was like a party in hell.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: And that was fun.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: But it makes hell look fun as well.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, because at the end his two friends are like, that's where we want to be, you know.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:01SPEAKER_02: He's hanging out in his bedroom at the end.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 20:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe that was the first time I was like, I don't know, like this whole religion thing sounds kind of like a racket.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: It sounds like hell is not that bad.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Hell looks fun and heaven looks kind of boring.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:18SPEAKER_02: Um but it's it's uh yeah, it's one of those movies that I think like I don't know, it doesn't hold up over time to me.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: And so when when was the sorry, when was the last time you saw this movie?
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: Uh recently.
- 20:40SPEAKER_01: So it was on Netflix in the US.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: I know things are different.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Um in other places.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: It wasn't here, yeah.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Uh it was on Netflix like a month or two ago.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Uh and so um my fiance likes the movie as well, and like we just threw it on because it's it's a it's a good throw-on.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: It's also one of the most the most movies that I think is always on, like, you know, reruns and it's always on, yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: It's always on.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: So I think we just kind of threw it on.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: And that is the the thing almost specifically with movies made from that period of like 2000 to 2008 where there's just like rampant homophobia and oh, there's a lot, yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: It's just it's almost like they didn't have any other jokes, uh but but I obviously like it doesn't hold up in that way.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah um he has a speech impediment, yeah.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: We're you know, in that space where I'm like it's kind of crossing a line at some point, too.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Um but at the same time, if we're just thinking in this time period, I have to give him props that the entire movie he was like, hey, like he just had he had to cant his smile to the side the entire time.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Think he like had to get like adjustments after that or something?
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Because it must have like affected his jaw in some way.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, you know, you're three to six months of doing that, it's just like not gonna be good for it.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and you're having like 12-hour shoot days and you're just talking out of the side of your mouth.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: It's not like he's a side character, he's in every scene.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: He's in every scene, yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: So that was definitely difficult.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm sure.
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: But yeah, there's there's a ton of that, and uh so is this your is this the one one of the Santa movies you've seen the most then, do you think?
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: Or is it um is it just because it was so low that you thought, oh I've got to defend this one out of them?
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: It was it's one of my faves, but it's hard because um I remember that I think my family had um Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison on double feature DVD or VHS, I forget what it was at the time.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: Um so those I probably watched the most.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but but then Waterboy and Lil Nikki were definitely up there for me re-watching a lot.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Um and my friend and I I I don't even know.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, you just watched it, right?
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: Uh I just watched it uh this this morning for again for the first time in years.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: I've seen it, but I hadn't seen it for the first I hadn't seen it in years.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: Like a long, long time.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, there's there's this scene when uh one of the the brothers takes on oh that's another thing, they take on other people's bodies, and that's like why Dana Carvey has a part.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: He's like a referee and stuff like that.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: So they take on other people's bodies on earth because they're demons, they can't really like walk as themselves.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: And one of them takes on the body of like a priest, and he's just like and my friend and I quote that all the time.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: It's just like the weirdest moment, it's so strange.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: It's so strange.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 24:01SPEAKER_02: That has been in my head ever since it started ever since I saw that.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: It's so bizarre, it's such a bizarre moment.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: It was like, I don't know if the if that was even written or if the actor just made that choice to do that like weird sound effect, but it makes me laugh every time.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: It does, it makes me laugh because it I but like not in a way that like it's funny, it makes me laugh because it's just like, what is this choice?
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: What is that?
- 24:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's so weird.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Um yeah.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: I also want to add that Robert Smigle, uh who uh is the voice of Beavie This Dog, right?
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Follows him around.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: Robert Smigle is of is um the he's done a lot of like the writing for things, but he's he's the voice of um I'll triumph the insult dog.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: No way!
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: Oh that makes a lot of sense, but it's also a very different voice.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: It is, yeah.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I and everyone loves Mr.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Beefy.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, he's he's a great character.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: Beefy is a great character.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: He's like evil, but he's not, you know, he's a dog, so he's lovable.
- 25:14SPEAKER_01: He's he's a good character.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I found myself, and like I don't what else is is Reese not Witherspoon, Reese, how do you say it?
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Iphens?
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: I think it's Iffins.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Iffens?
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Reese Iffens.
- 25:27SPEAKER_02: What else is it's Welsh, sorry, it's hard to pronounce.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Yes, he's Welsh, so Ephens, maybe Eath's, he's from your neck of the woods, but um I found myself strangely attracted to him.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: Like at in demon form.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I I always felt conflicted about that because I thought he was so cute.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: But I hadn't seen him in a lot of other stuff.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: I guess he's in Notting Hill and Yeah, he's in Notting Hill, he's in one of the Spider-Man's uh the uh the Andrew Garfield one.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: Um got it, okay.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: He's been in a few other things, but he's like he's quite famous over here, at least.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: And to me, I was like, I don't know him, but he's he looks cute.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Uh but yeah, and I the other thing that I think I don't know, so many movies are set in New York, but obviously I'm from New York.
- 26:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: So whenever I see movies and I can identify like, you know, streets or whatever it is.
- 26:27SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of this happened on, you know, sound stages, but it's always a little bit close to my heart, you know.
- 26:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: I know that feelings.
- 26:36SPEAKER_02: Well, like um and like New York and London, when I do that, I do it for both of those cities.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: I'm like, oh yeah, I I know this, I know this where this is, I know where that was filmed, and yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: It's exciting.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: Right, it's cute.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: And like, you know, the apartment that he ends up in is like in the East Village.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: I used to live there.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Ah, it's so love that kind of stuff.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: I but I oh sorry.
- 27:00SPEAKER_03: Oh no, go on, yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: I was looking into the the making of it, um, honestly, before this pod, because I was just interested in how much actually did take place on a sound stage, and um, all of the Central Park scenes were completely like not in Central Park, which also makes sense because they would Yeah, I guess that makes sense.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: It's kind of sad though.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: I think maybe the parts where Nikki was like alone or something like that, but the end when it was like hell was in Central Park, yeah, um, that would just be insane to put it.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's no way that was actually in Central Park.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's very hard.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: And as someone like I also um work in like TV and film and stuff, and I'm sure the permits for that would have been just a pain in the ass.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: So but I was like, wow, I mean, again, I know I mentioned the production design, and it's like, okay, well, it was$85 million, but man, they constructed like hell out of the earth.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: I don't know, it's pretty cool.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: It does look really good, and it looks the thing is thing about it is it's it's all it's a lot of practical stuff.
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: It's not a not a lot of CTI, which is what I like about it.
- 28:11SPEAKER_01: It's lots of and can I say, can we make more of a shift back to practical effects?
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Please.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: I've been saying this, I've been saying this on the podcast every time it comes up when I see the practical work, because it's it looks so much better.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: It looks so much better.
- 28:26SPEAKER_01: Everyone can tell.
- 28:27SPEAKER_01: I think that I don't know, this shift towards everything being CGI, and it is it is impressive in its own right, like the people who you know design those graphics, like that's incredible.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, I'm like, God, set design, practical effects.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: It loses the moves it loses for me, it loses the movie magic when it goes CGI.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: It loses that excitement.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: It's a computer, yeah.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: And I know it's a pain in the ass to like try and do all this, but just go, please go back to it.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just I I you know find myself, and especially because we're in the same, you know, age group, like that is maybe why we have so much nostalgia for movies from the 80s and 90s, yeah.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: And you know, early 2000s.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: It's like it's such a different feel to movies.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: So it is.
- 29:22SPEAKER_02: I think we were like, this is kind of like the cutoff point before it kind of really ramped up into a lot of CGI stuff.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: Um it's also kind of I was thinking this earlier.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: This is kind of the beginning of the point at which I started to dislike his movies.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: This I I will agree with you there.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: I'm trying to think of what came after.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Oh, Click Click came after.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: So it went from Little Nikki, he went to Mr.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: Deeds.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: Okay, I like Mr.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Deeds.
- 29:59SPEAKER_02: Mr.
- 30:00SPEAKER_02: Deeds I don't hate, but I also haven't seen in a long time.
- 30:03SPEAKER_02: Um then he went then of his own movies, he went to I guess 51st Dates, which I do like.
- 30:12SPEAKER_02: So maybe I'm a Okay.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: But I know what you're it's yeah, which was like uh I could take or leave.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: It's like I don't even remember that as being an Adam Sandler movie.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Like, it doesn't even come to mind.
- 30:28SPEAKER_02: Um but I guess like around the mid-2000s, he kind of he kind of started up going into that um we're all going on our movies are gonna be like me and my friends were going on vacation.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: That's that's when it was just kind of like I don't want to see this.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like where was the creativity we saw with Little Nikki, like a concept like that that was so unique, or even A Waterboy, which was another, you know, character-based movie, and it's like where did that go?
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: No, it's just gonna be another comedy of me and all of my like other aging co-stars like going on a movie on a vacation, sorry.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: So it was like kind of the beginning of the end.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_02: I I do miss like you're saying it, yeah.
- 31:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, I I do me I do wish he'd go back to doing some character work.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: I haven't seen it.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's that's where I think was the magic because you know, like we said, he he's he got his big break on SNL.
- 31:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: That's all sketches, that's all character work.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Which is great as well.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Some of his best stuff was from there.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one of I mean, I have a lot of the uh best of DVDs, like best of yeah, Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, and when you watch that, you're like, ugh, this is why I loved him.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: And kind of what happened.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: I think also like they were my No, that's not true actually.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: I would say like I I'd seen like a couple of the movies before that, but then then I kind of discovered those DVDs and they were c or the VHS tapes or whatever they were.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: And they were my intro to a lot of these people, alongside his uh stand-up as well.
- 32:18SPEAKER_02: Like, do you did you ever have the stand-up stuff that went ro like it used to go round the school, I remember.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, and he was always I I remember when I saw it, I was kind of shocked in a way, because I was like, oh my god, I thought he was only a sketch comedian.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Like I never knew that he did stand up.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Um and also, yeah, if someone older is listening to this, I'm sorry.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Like we sound so naive.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Um We were kids.
- 32:43SPEAKER_01: We were kids, we were kids.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: But when I was a kid, and I still have it in my childhood bedroom, I had I had we had to do a book report on a biography of someone, and I don't even know who wrote this.
- 32:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, we could Google it, but it was called Not Too Shabby, and it was a little, it was so small because it was so early in his career.
- 33:07SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, feel free to look it up.
- 33:08SPEAKER_02: I'm looking it up, yeah.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: Yes, and it and it was about him, and the last page was like uh, you know, Adam Sandler is continuing to work on movie projects, including an upcoming film, Little Nikki.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: So I had it like right before.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: This came out.
- 33:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: This came out 1st of July 1999.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: So so they were prepping for, you know, the release of Little Nikki.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: And I'm sorry, this is a so this is a biography, right?
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:43SPEAKER_02: Can I tell you how how many pages do you think this is?
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: Oh no, I bet I bet because also remember, so then, yeah, 1999, I was nine years old.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna guess it was like 50 pages?
- 33:57unknown: Is it?
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: No, it's not that bad.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: It's 152 pages.
- 34:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: But it's also got a grade level on it.
- 34:04SPEAKER_02: It's got grade level four to six.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Which was perfect.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: I've never seen that on a book.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Never seen that on a book, but it was clearly in in my elementary school library.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: They were like a scholastic book.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 34:18SPEAKER_02: It's literally got scholastic on there.
- 34:20SPEAKER_01: Got it at probably at the scholastic school fair because I thought, you know, ooh, I was so cool and I loved Adam Sandler, always loved comedy, whatever.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: And I did a book report on on Adam Sandler's biography called Not Too Shabby.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: And I learned all about him.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: I've loved the the top review for this says I didn't the it gave it two stars, it said boring.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Great.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: Didn't didn't learn anything new about Adam Sandler, and the book was very short and poorly researched.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Because also it's like, yeah, you probably if you knew anything about him, it was like he was on SNL and like blah blah blah.
- 34:58SPEAKER_01: It was just so basic.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: But you know, I probably got an A.
- 35:03unknown: Yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: And that's that's all that mattered.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: As long as you got something out of it.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Learn learned a lot in that 150-page book.
- 35:12SPEAKER_02: And you were one of the four people that bought it, so oh yeah.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, for sure.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: I I had to have been.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: I mean, I joke, it literally has seven ratings.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: Um seven ratings, yeah.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: No, one of them was me as a child, no.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: Um, but I if I was in my parents' house at any time before this came up, I was go I would have gotten it.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah but it's just sitting under my bed somewhere.
- 35:35SPEAKER_02: Next time you go back there, please find it.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely, and I will take a picture and I'll send it to you.
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: Um so but yeah, so like you were saying, okay, so that's interesting.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: So in 1999, he would have been like just prepping to film it then.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Um I think they said he'd he had rapped filming and it was probably in post.
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Um set to be released uh released in 2000 or whatever it was.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, I guess it got released in 2000.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: I keep thinking it's later as well for some reason.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah.
- 36:09SPEAKER_02: So yeah, he would have just done Big Daddy, like he he's just going off coming off of Big Daddy at that point as well.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Which was another one I forgot, which is one it's a good one.
- 36:18SPEAKER_02: I love Big Daddy.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: And I like people such a feel-good, like fun movie.
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, very quotable too.
- 36:27SPEAKER_02: That that to me is that might be my favorite of his.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: You know, I thought I do I love Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, but like those those two are so hard to choose between, and it's always gonna be like I I don't know if it's the first one you see is your f always your favorite, but I think my first Adam Sandler movie was Billy Madison, and that's why it's my favorite.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: Just can't beat it.
- 36:56SPEAKER_02: I think it does really stand like up to now as well.
- 37:01SPEAKER_02: Like it's still very funny today.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that one I'm trying to remember.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: It's it's slightly less offensive.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Not as many.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't remember as many, like.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: There's probably some weird stuff in there, but weird stuff, but I'm telling you, it was like it wasn't the 90s, it was specifically the 2000s that we just uh the the movie and and television industry just thought that gay jokes were the f peak of comedy.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: It's such a strange time, it was so weird.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: It's so weird.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: I watched um a movie that I had never seen from 2008, like a month ago, and the whole thing was basically a hate crime.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: It was just Which movie?
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: It was called Sex Drive.
- 37:47SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: It was horrible.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was so bad.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: It was very similar to Road Trip, which is more of a teen classic.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Um, same kind of concept, and the whole thing was just like replete with slurs.
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: It was it was just it was so bad.
- 38:08SPEAKER_01: I was like, how did this get made?
- 38:10SPEAKER_01: And it was 2008.
- 38:12SPEAKER_02: That was 2008.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: It's just it's crazy.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: I was like, well, this is I'm gl- I guess I was glad I never saw it, and but now seeing it, I was like, this is a waste of my time.
- 38:23SPEAKER_02: I remember even at the time, I s I saw it when it came out, and I remember even thinking at the time, this is not right, this isn't good.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then there's like a whole making fun of Amish people thing, which I guess is still fair game.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: It was it was not good.
- 38:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's it's a weird thing of like it's Amish and the Italians.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, and James Marsden, isn't it?
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, he's not, you know, I mean, he's not A-less, but he's not like nobody.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: He doesn't need to be doing this.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: No! I was like, what did his agent do with this movie?
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Like, why?
- 39:02SPEAKER_02: Maybe that's his type of humor.
- 39:04SPEAKER_01: I I guess.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: I you know, who knows, but uh sorry, we we started talking about sex drive, which is a completely different movie that I will not defend.
- 39:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's not defend that.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Um But I'm I'm just looking at the reviews for for little Nikki as well.
- 39:19SPEAKER_02: And um Okay.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: So basically, one of them says this is no wedding singer.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I keep forgetting, like, I forgot Big Daddy, I forgot Wedding Singer.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: Wedding Singer is up there for me.
- 39:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: I don't even put that in the same kind of like category though, that's the thing.
- 39:38SPEAKER_02: There's certain certain Adam Sandler movies I put that you have to put them in like different categories.
- 39:42SPEAKER_02: This is this is like the the silly premise-based ones.
- 39:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Wedding Singer was like a real movie.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: That's exactly it.
- 39:50SPEAKER_02: It's like that's a real movie.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: It's different.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: That it's not him putting all of his friends in it.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, some some were there, but it wasn't like, oh, there's that guy, that guy, that guy, that guy.
- 40:01SPEAKER_01: Like it was an actual movie, and it was really sweet and like such a good rom-com.
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Um it's it's definitely no wedding singer, but that's an unfair criticism because they're different movies.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: Um another movie, another reviewer says, if you can take Sandler for more than five minutes, this is his funniest film to date.
- 40:20SPEAKER_02: Which is interesting because I would disagree with that.
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: Also, such a weird criticism because it's like, if you can take him, then it's really funny, but don't you have to take him to find it funny?
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: How do you separate the two?
- 40:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 40:38SPEAKER_02: Um and then there's a there's one that just says um perhaps his most irritating persona to date.
- 40:46SPEAKER_02: Uh he manages manages to get through the entire movie with barely a single gag.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: So I will allow that in that it is definitely um it's not the endearing way that Waterboy was.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: It it is he is endearing, he's sweet, um, he's not like his A-hole brothers.
- 41:10SPEAKER_01: Like he has that, but there was some like innocence and sweetness about the Waterboy that was different.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: I feel like we got to know the Waterboy better than we do get to know Nikki.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: And I think that helps.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Um can we talk about him and Patricia Arquet as a couple though?
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: Because that that like her personality in this, I feel bad, but it's very weird.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: It's very weird.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: Um, and while I want to continue defending this movie, I will say that she doesn't feel and this happens to a lot of uh female characters that people write, especially Especially in his movies, yeah.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: That men write, yeah.
- 41:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 41:57SPEAKER_01: Um she is not fully formed.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: We do not we don't understand why this poor sweet woman would accept someone like this.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: I would like to know more about her.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: What what is in her past that makes her accept this, you know?
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: And they're just like, no, she's not three-dimensional, she has one dimension, it's just that she's really sweet.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:24SPEAKER_02: Well, one interesting thing is that Brittany Spears was considered for the role.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: What?
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 42:34SPEAKER_02: Like, can you imagine Britney Spears in that role?
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: No, and I've only seen and I I mean Crossroads is is a great movie in its own right, and I think that's been defended on your show.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: It has, yeah.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Um, Brittany Spears does not, she has a lot of amazing things.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: She's not the best actress, I would say.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: Um I remember when she was on that episode of How I Met Your Mother, and I was like, okay, nope, we gotta stay with the singing thing because that is what you were put on this earth to do.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: Um I can't This would have been her first movie as well.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, it was before Crossroads.
- 43:12SPEAKER_02: This is prior to Crossroads, yeah.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: See, in my mind, I was like, oh, crossroads would be for anyways.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: No.
- 43:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, she could not have carried this role, I don't think.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: No.
- 43:23SPEAKER_02: Not having said that, I also don't think Patricia Roquette carries the role.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it it's like she's so amazing in so many other things.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: Obviously, she's amazing, but she gave her nothing.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: They give her nothing for this.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: They give her nothing, and to me, I don't really see Patricia.
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: Has she done a lot of comedies?
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: No, right?
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: Not that I can think of.
- 43:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, she's such an amazing dramatic actor.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: Like I can't.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: No, and also, of course.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Uh in more recent times, the thing that I'm thinking of is uh when she was in the show.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Uh oh my god.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: Uh the one where she's the mom who has uh Oh my god.
- 44:12SPEAKER_01: Uh what is it called by proxy?
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: Shoot.
- 44:18SPEAKER_01: Hold on, I'm just gonna click you.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: If you're in her um I'm looking at a lot of us, she's in a lot of shows.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: That's why I'm like not sure what you're talking about.
- 44:26SPEAKER_01: Yes, shoot.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Her most recent role The Act was The Act! The act okay, oh, and it's Munchhausen by proxy.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: So she played, I mean, it's like a really crazy role, and she does an amazing job at it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: Um, she has to play like a very sick woman.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Um so I just feel like we've seen her in these things.
- 44:50SPEAKER_01: I just can't.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: I'm it's not that I can't imagine her being sweet, but it is a very strange role for her.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: Um I actually might disagree and say that like given the material she was given to work with, she did it, she did as her best.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: Like she did the best that she was.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: I'll agree with that.
- 45:09SPEAKER_02: I'll agree with that.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Uh she did what she could.
- 45:13SPEAKER_01: Right, she did what she could.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: And then um, what's his name?
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, the the dad.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: Uh Harvey Kaitel.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: So he is known for his you know dramatic roles.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: And this was a big, you know, departure for him.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: And I thought he like fit in perfectly.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: Oh, he was great in this.
- 45:34SPEAKER_02: It's loving he's loving this role.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm sure for him it was so much fun to do something so different.
- 45:41SPEAKER_01: Um, and I would never know that he was not a comedic actor.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:45SPEAKER_02: But he he's like so good in everything, he's always great.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: Um I guess he does like kind of some funny stuff.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: Like he's funny in pop fiction.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: He's funny in.
- 45:58SPEAKER_01: Right, right, okay.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's funny.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: He's funny sometimes.
- 46:01SPEAKER_01: Comic relief.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: Um also uh Adam Sandler puts his wife in the movie, uh, like he so often does.
- 46:12SPEAKER_01: Makes her an angel.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: Um I'm so interested by her career.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: I have I have something so I was on a podcast, uh, I was a guest on another podcast, uh about it's called uh truly happy Madison.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: And it's a it's where they go through the all the Happy Madison movies and they uh they what they they watch them.
- 46:36SPEAKER_02: Uh and they were talking about this uh of her like every time that she is in one of them, it's a bad one.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: It turns out to be a bad one.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: Oh so she's like an omen.
- 46:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 46:50SPEAKER_02: And so when when she's in them, it's bad, they know it's gonna be bad, and when she's not, they know it's gonna be good.
- 46:56SPEAKER_01: And you're talking about these podcast hosts, obviously not Adam.
- 46:59SPEAKER_02: No, not Adam.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Because that would be it reminds me of like uh that old timey thing that sailors had where it's like it's bad luck to have a woman on the boat.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: Like, you know what I mean?
- 47:11SPEAKER_01: Like anytime his wife is present in the movies, it's a bad one.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: That's rough.
- 47:18SPEAKER_02: But she doesn't have a lot to do in this movie, but she's kind of just like one of the angels, isn't she?
- 47:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which that's a very nice part to get she's supposed to be hot and you know, it's great.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Um but she's uh I read that she was like they the the way they met was because she was in uh I think it was Juice Bigelow, and Rob Schneider recommended her for like another Adam Sandler movie.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: He's like, Oh, you should get her involved, and then they met on the next one, and then this is like I think this might be it.
- 47:52SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: And so maybe they weren't dating yet.
- 47:55SPEAKER_02: They weren't no, this they weren't actually dating at this point.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: That's fac that's interesting because I didn't know the timeline of their relationship.
- 48:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but I know that he he does do that a lot.
- 48:07SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:08SPEAKER_01: Um and I don't I mean, I don't really know how good her acting chops are.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: I don't like, but she's she seems lovely.
- 48:16unknown: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: She's fine.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: She's fine.
- 48:19SPEAKER_01: No, but I mean, obviously with the angels, like Reese Witherspoon, she like is an angel.
- 48:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: She was so perfect.
- 48:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I love her so much.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: And uh this is Dana Carve's first role in a long time as well.
- 48:37SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: I did not know that.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: Um He took a hiatus.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: Oh no, wait, that might not actually be true.
- 48:44SPEAKER_02: I read something about Dana they said something about Dana Carve in this role.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: I swear I just Oh, I remember that he broke his ankle.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he did.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: He broke his ankle during the filming, which is kind of uh interesting because he was just playing a referee.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't really see where he got where he broke his egg.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: Maybe, and I I'm forgetting, but I think maybe he was like moving around the court or something, but uh that Adam like took him to the hospital after.
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: I I love Dana Carvey.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: So do I.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: I just I wish he'd go back to more stuff.
- 49:16SPEAKER_02: I understand after the last movie he made why he he didn't why he's taken such a long highest.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like I wish he'd come back.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: I know, I know.
- 49:28SPEAKER_01: And you know, maybe he's kind of doing more of the opposite of Adam, where he's like, I don't want to take these things because I don't want to start having a bad rep, you know.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: Um but he in the States, I don't know that it's like over there too, but um him and Mike Myers are are doing these Uber Eats commercials now, and I'm like, that's I guess that's what happens.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: That's what happens at the end of you know, your career, and you just I don't know.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: I I can't tell if I love it or it's sad.
- 50:03SPEAKER_02: It's just I saw it, it was going around 20 minutes.
- 50:06SPEAKER_02: I thought, oh, this is sad.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's they look really old as well.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 50:11SPEAKER_01: I'm like, that's not Wayne and Garth.
- 50:14SPEAKER_01: That's it's just not.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: But look, another character-based movie that is I mean, I love 'em.
- 50:21SPEAKER_02: I did notice that for the first time when they came back to SNL.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: Probably like it might have even been like a decade ago at this point, but they came back to SNL to do like an a Wayne's World sketch, and I could see it in their faces, they did not look the same, and it felt really sad.
- 50:38SPEAKER_01: It's so tough.
- 50:39SPEAKER_01: I even feel like I experienced that with uh watching like the newer seasons of Arrested Development.
- 50:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: It was just like, wow.
- 50:48SPEAKER_02: It's like you're all aged.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, and I don't I don't even want to, you know, because we should all be allowed to age.
- 50:53SPEAKER_02: People are of course you're of course we're allowed to age, it's just it just feels very sad because you're like, oh, I have memories of you being not like that.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's just kind of jarring, I guess, is the word.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: You're just like, whoa.
- 51:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because I think I think what it is is you're not seeing them age, you just see them kind it's just like one to the other.
- 51:15SPEAKER_02: You see the jump.
- 51:17SPEAKER_02: You don't see it.
- 51:17SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: You're not seeing the progression.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 51:20SPEAKER_01: Like you might see them in the uh, you know, red carpet photos and stuff, but your brain is not really like with the costumes and everything.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: It's just different.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: Uh especially those two who've just like go missing for years at a time.
- 51:32SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:33SPEAKER_02: It was uh But yeah, he's also playing so the referee he's playing in this is the same referee from Eight Crazy Nights.
- 51:42SPEAKER_02: Um Yes, you're so right.
- 51:45SPEAKER_02: Which But is voice but but is actually voiced by Adam Sandler, apparently.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh um Adam Sandler voices uh his name is Whitey.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: So I I again I'm forgetting like all of Adam Sandler's Rolodex.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: But Eight Crazy Nights is great because as uh someone who grew up as a half Jew, uh we needed a Hanukkah movie, you know?
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: There's not a lot of them.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: My memory of that movie is me and my friends trying to see it.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: And it not being shown anywhere.
- 52:19SPEAKER_02: And we tried for weeks and weeks and weeks, and in the end we just gave up.
- 52:24SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: And then we I ended up seeing it like a year or two down the line.
- 52:29SPEAKER_01: On like, you know, DVD or whatever.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
- 52:33SPEAKER_01: It was good.
- 52:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, and it was animated, so it was really different.
- 52:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Um, I didn't even put that two and two together that that's the character he was I didn't until I was reading the truth earlier.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: Huh.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: That's fascinating.
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, did you see Uncut Gems?
- 52:50SPEAKER_02: I love Uncut Gems.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: I'm so sorry.
- 52:53SPEAKER_02: You hate it.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: I I did not love it.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: And I defend myself by saying because people are like, well, it's the type of movie it was really anxiety producing, and I was like, no, because the other what Do you want to do you want to make this your movie?
- 53:09SPEAKER_01: No.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: Wait, no.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, overrated?
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: I think I was gonna I'll tell you the other one I was gonna do, but let me just say, I do think the only reason I didn't immediately go for this one for overrated is because I felt like it was hit or miss.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: Like some people feel really emphatically that they don't like it, and some people feel completely the opposite.
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: So I wasn't okay.
- 53:36SPEAKER_02: So we don't we don't we don't you don't have to go for it then, but you yeah, tell me what you tell me about it then.
- 53:41SPEAKER_01: Well, I just like uh uh Good Time is that is that was that was the other Safety Brothers movie that uh you know everyone compares.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: I loved that movie.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, it's not the anxiety of it.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: I couldn't put my finger on it, but I did not give it a second watch.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: Like I watched it just once.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: Oh, I've only seen it once as well.
- 54:02SPEAKER_02: I don't think I could see it again.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: You just yeah, I mean, because you know the ending, you can't really, whatever, but I don't know.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: I I have also a lot of trouble um with movies and TV shows that have kind of like irredeemable characters.
- 54:20SPEAKER_01: I could not find anything to root for with this man.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: So maybe that was it.
- 54:27SPEAKER_02: Do you know what is very funny?
- 54:29SPEAKER_02: Is that you would you were just tweeting out of your belt, you're just starting sopranos.
- 54:34SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 54:36SPEAKER_01: You're so right, and like it is actually crazy that I I haven't as an as an Italian in America that lived in the tri-state area.
- 54:46SPEAKER_01: So I you know the Jersey is like obviously.
- 54:51SPEAKER_02: You are like so close to that area.
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: I know, and uh, you know what I think it was.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: I remember when it first came out because that was early or sorry, late 90s, early 2000s.
- 55:01SPEAKER_01: Um, I wasn't allowed to watch it.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, of course.
- 55:04SPEAKER_01: So I was allowed to see Little Nikki because it was like PG 13.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Um, but the Sopranos was way too dark.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: So I kind of missed the boat, and then when everyone was re-watching it in college, I was like, eh, like I don't you know, I wasn't really into it, and now I am marrying a man who is obsessed with the show.
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: It's his favorite, so it's kind of like uh me, it's a love language thing.
- 55:29SPEAKER_02: Like I'm watching You have to watch it before we get married.
- 55:32SPEAKER_01: I have to, or I can't walk down the aisle.
- 55:35SPEAKER_01: So um it's weird that I can find redeemable qualities in in Tony Soprano, that he is kind of a very classic anti-hero.
- 55:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 55:47SPEAKER_02: Um He's very much he's like the epitome of the anti-hero.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: Like uh Yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: Especially it's him, I'd say it's him and Walter White are the two that are kind of propped up as the as the ones that everyone talks about.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: That was the next person I was gonna say.
- 56:03SPEAKER_01: So it he was obviously I and I watched all of Breaking Bad before, so I I saw that before I saw The Sopranos, but um he obviously set the stage.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: You know, he was the the OG.
- 56:17SPEAKER_01: Um but the way that he he does struggle with his it's not really that he struggles with his morality, but you know, he's anxious, he's depressed.
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I can relate.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: Like I can't relate to a lot, but I can relate to that.
- 56:34SPEAKER_02: So weirdly, I can relate to more of his stuff than I can relate to Walter White.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 56:40SPEAKER_02: No, but it's so strange.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: It's it's like, what?
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: But yeah, he he almost and again, I am an Italian from the New York area.
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: Tony's like one of my uncles.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: I get it.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: Are you from are you from uh the city or are you from uh the state?
- 56:58SPEAKER_01: I am from Long Island.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: So I am, you know, uh the the way that they are talking on the show, all of their like Sunday dinners and things like that, you know, my family wasn't in the mafia, but everything else is pretty on par with how I grew up.
- 57:16SPEAKER_01: So yeah.
- 57:19SPEAKER_02: I've only yeah the the sad thing is I have started and stopped the show so many times.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:27SPEAKER_02: I I keep I and I for no reason I love it.
- 57:30SPEAKER_02: Every time I watch it, I love it.
- 57:32SPEAKER_02: But then I end up like getting distracted by something else and leaving it so long that I have to go start all over again, and every time I love it, I'm like, I need to just set aside a time to watch the whole thing.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: Well, I think what happens also is like I I do the same thing, and I actually had a huge gap between uh season one and two.
- 57:53SPEAKER_01: Like I watched season one two years ago, and then I had to like rewatch a little bit to get started again.
- 57:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: Because other shows come up and movies and stuff, and especially you and I, we're you know, comedians.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: We need to be up in the zeitgeist and like know everything.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: Or I and not even just comedies, like everything, so that I can have an opinion on every single thing that's happening.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: So uh it can be really hard to be like, I'm gonna watch this show that was made in 2001, you know.
- 58:25SPEAKER_02: So nobody is talking about this show anymore.
- 58:27SPEAKER_02: What why would I need to do this?
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I'm just live tweeting it as if anyone cares.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: But yeah, sorry.
- 58:36SPEAKER_02: You should live tweet the whole thing.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: I you know, because I am like these things come to me and I have to talk I because I have to tweet every single stupid thing that I think.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: So I have to talk about it.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: And uh I'm just hinging on the hope that people have all watched it, and so they'll just enjoy my commentary anyways.
- 58:57SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I'm well, this will be fun to see.
- 59:01SPEAKER_02: And I'm gonna try and like I'm gonna have to avoid what you're talking about now as well.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, because you haven't finished.
- 59:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna I'll have to like mute the word sopranos.
- 59:10SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 59:11SPEAKER_01: Or or you could start now and we could just be on this journey together.
- 59:14SPEAKER_02: Well, I need to I've see I've seen season one so many times, so I should just get go to season two.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just pass it.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: Just skip that.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: Let's just go into season two.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 59:25SPEAKER_02: Um Right, so we've gone so far off topic.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: I know, but fun.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but fun.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:33SPEAKER_02: Nothing wrong with it.
- 59:34SPEAKER_02: Um I'm just trying to think what we can talk about with this movie itself.
- 59:37SPEAKER_02: Like, so what is other than like you you hold like uh nostalgic sentimental value to this movie.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Like what is what it what is defendable about it to you then in this day and age.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: In this day and age, I will, and I hope I don't, you know, repeat myself a little bit, but I will say I think the plot was solid.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: It was well written.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_02: I'll agree with you on the plot was solid.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_02: I but then you just said the plot it was well written.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: Well written.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: No, okay.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_02: That's where I might disagree.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, so barring any offensive jokes.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: When I say well written, I'm like the main character has a clear uh, you know, journey.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_01: It is a hero it is a hero's journey.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Um, one of those classics.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, there there's a clear end goal.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_01: Uh he gets into some fun hijinks along the way, so it checks off that box for a comedy.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: Uh and there is, I think, a moral of the story, you know?
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_01: It's I mean, it is morality itself.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: I I think that there's a little bit of good and bad in everyone.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: Because if you think about it, so his dad was the devil, or is like he ends up, you know, surviving, um, getting back his throne.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_01: Uh, he fell in love with an angel.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_01: He um isn't a bad dad.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_01: He's actually really supportive.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: And even there's even a scene in in this with some some kind of like I want to say he's like a football player.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_02: Um but he talk he's talking to the guy and he's like, or it might be like a football m coach or something.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: And he's talking to it's like a very famous one, but I just don't know who they are.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_01: Was it Nikki or the devil?
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: The devil.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, in hell?
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_02: Like he's like, I've uh can't I need you to help me win the Super Bowl.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: He's like, No, I don't want to extend I don't want you to exchange your soul for eternity to me because you're too nice.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: So he's even he is like he is just and he he has a job to do.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_01: He like anyone else, you know, we've all had compromising jobs, I'm sure.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: Uh he has been tasked with running hell.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_01: So he's doing it to the best of his ability.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_01: He I think punishes Hitler pretty well.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: Which, you know, is a good thing in its own right.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_02: Pineapple up the butt.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: Yep, and he doesn't let him get a small one, he makes it a big one.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: Um, and he loves his son.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_01: I think he truly, and I think he even truly loves his bad sons, which is a good parent.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_02: So he wants what's best for all of them.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_01: So I think uh it is a story of also, you know, a a a parental relationship.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Like he meets his mom for the first time.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_01: There's a sweetness to it.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: So I'm not gonna say that the more like there's a strong moral, like be nice to people, but I think it's just I will stick with there's good and bad in all of us.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_01: And you know, same with Angel Mom got with a demon dad.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_01: So you could say there's she's obviously mostly good, but there's a little bad in her.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I don't know.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: That's that's what I got out of it.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_01: And that, like, you do good deeds, you go to heaven, you do bad deeds, you go to hell.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Clear cut morals.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: I can't believe we haven't even talked about the opening, which is John John Lovett's as Oh my god, as a peeping Tom.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_02: Which is how it opens.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_02: It's it's him perving on this woman and her child.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_02: Uh well, he's poving on the woman, but her child's there.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_01: But um just awful.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_02: What is that scene?
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: What is that?
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_01: And he pretends that he's a giant bird, and then but then he gets punished accurately.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_01: So I think.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_02: He does, he goes straight to hell, and he go and he keeps saying, I deserve this.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_01: So again, clear cut, like there is a good and a bad, and he obviously did bad.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, and we haven't talked about uh Kevin Nealon having a pair of boobs on his head.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_02: So here's here's one thing.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: Okay, not proud of this, but they uh I'm not I was saying I'm not proud of this, but as a teenager, uh one of my friends had a big forehead, and we used to call him tithead based on this movie.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: Shut up.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_01: Has he recovered like from the bullying?
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: It's it's so hard, especially when friends are bullying each other, because it's like all in good fun, but you know, there was a little bit of truth behind that.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: He had a big forehead.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_01: Um the not that I have met a ton of celebrities, but weirdly enough, I have met Kevin Nealin.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he was really nice.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_02: What was the where did you meet him?
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so um in my everyday life, I'm a TV producer and I was working on a game show.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_01: Uh a hundred thousand dollar pyramid.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: And yeah, and he was one of our contestants, and he was very cool, very nice, really talkative, like not one of those celebrities that's like, okay, you know, give me my instructions and then go away.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_01: He was super open.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_01: Um and uh saw boobs on his head the whole time.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_01: No.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_02: I didn't realize it was Kevin Nealand until today.
- 1:05:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I I mean, because they have him in such heavy makeup.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_01: That's another thing.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_01: The prosthetics.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_02: Very good in this movie.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_01: The practical effects and the prosthetics.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_01: That's adding on to my list of reasons that this movie was great.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_01: It was well thought out.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_01: It was well thought out.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_02: Um I think.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_02: I think the three worst characters in this are his two friends plus his roommate, though, who are his like his actual friends.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_02: Um because they are th first of all, his two friends that he meets are the most annoying people in this movie.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: They're very annoying.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_01: Um and I can't remember how benign they were.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_01: Like they're I mean, I obviously they they love the devil, which is like objectively bad.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: But um at the same time, do are they do they say offensive things?
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I can't remember how to do that.
- 1:06:34SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah, so here's the thing.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_02: They they they only make so when they meet his roommate, they only make gay jokes to him.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: That though that's where the gay jokes are from.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's where all the gay jokes are.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_02: And and then they just like they're so idiotically dumb.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_02: Uh the entire movie.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_01: They play those kind of roles all almost always.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's all they play.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: Um, what's the really handsome guy?
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_01: Um the what one of those two.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: And I never remember his name.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: One of the two friends.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_01: Uh it is.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_01: Is it Peter Dante or Jonathan?
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_02: Uh I don't know which one you're gonna think is handsome.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_01: They look it's Peter Dante, okay.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_01: He to me could have been like an actual I don't know, like A-list hunk.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_01: But you know, he has he looks like a James Marsden type.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_02: I see I know what you're saying.
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_01: He's definitely got this like very all-American boy charming kind of face.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_02: And then and then he does the voice.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then he does these funny voices, and he just wanted to be a comedic actor, I guess.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_01: And I don't know what he's done in the last however many years.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_02: So I've been through his career and he's only ever in Sandler movies.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: And I guess there's merit to that.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, you just want to be in in like goofy buddy comedies and nothing else.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_02: I just wonder how these people like survive on this though.
- 1:08:23SPEAKER_01: I don't know either, and it is interesting that they all just kind of rode the Sandler train.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, does he like constantly help them with money or like I don't understand?
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, because obviously he's the biggest out of all of them, but I think um maybe Spade is in that group of friends as well.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: And he's kind of the other heavy hitter.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: Um, still Adam is the biggest of you know all of them.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_01: I wonder, I always wonder, like, if Chris Farley hadn't passed away, if like if he'd be in that as well.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_02: Um he is the what uh Kevin James like ended up being to them.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_02: Like he is that role.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_01: And I am a huge Chris Farley fan, so I will ar argue with that.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_02: I love Chris Farley.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_01: James doesn't have uh oh yeah, I know, you know, anything on him.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_02: No, I completely agree.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: God, I'm so sad at like what could have been, you know.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: Um, and I'm sure he would have been in all of these movies and probably done his own stuff too.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_01: This is like a little movie trivia that you probably already know, but that he was supposed to be Shrek.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_01: So he had recorded like a bunch of uh of Shrek and then passed away, and then Mike Myers took over, which of course was amazing and iconic, but yeah, God.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_01: I'm I I wonder what he would have been in Little Nikki.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I guess he would have been in Little Nikki as well.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_02: There is a reference to him in Little Nikki though.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_02: Is there?
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_02: Wait, no.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_02: So at the very end, uh when they say when they're talking about what everyone got up to, they say uh that the dad and the mum tried dating again, but it doesn't work.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_02: She is now dating her dance instructor, Chris Farley.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_01: No way! I didn't even Oh my gosh, that's so sweet.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_01: That's really sweet.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, Adam loves him so much.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: I know in his most recent special, he Oh god, that was so sad.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_01: It was crushing.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: He wrote that whole song, and um, yeah, I'm sure he would have been in all of these.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think he would have been involved in a lot of the stuff, and and he would have on he would have had his own career as well, which would have been exactly I think he would have been what Sandler is.
- 1:10:48unknown: Absolutely.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_02: I think he would have had that career.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_01: He totally would have.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, because like, you know, Tommy Boy, the movie we almost did.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_01: Um I mean, he obviously carries that movie, so he would have had a a complete, you know, black sheep.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: He had so many um great movies, and then he probably would have done cameos the way that he was like in Billy Madison as the bus driver and things like that.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, what could have been.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_02: So I didn't I also didn't know of him until after his death as as well.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_01: So I knew because, and that is why I think Tommy Boy was so special to me.
- 1:11:28SPEAKER_01: Like, that was one of the movies uh that my dad showed me as a kid.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_01: Uh that was like one of his favorite movies.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_01: So it was always and my dad's still around, all good, but um he like uh with my dad and I every time it's on you know TBS or something, he's like, Oh, it's on.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_01: Like, it's one of those.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_02: I think I learned of him through um Beverly Hills Ninja.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_01: Another great movie, yeah.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_02: But that but yeah, that was after like everything, after he died.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_01: So so tough, yeah.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_02: Um okay, so is there anything that we haven't talked about that you want to talk about with this movie, or should we move on to the final segment?
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_01: I think that we've talked about everything.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this could kind of like there'sn't it's honestly there's not a huge amount to cover with this movie.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_01: Right, no, absolutely.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_02: Um Yeah, okay.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: So let's move on to the final segment then, which is um the reverse of this.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_02: A movie that you think is overrated and uh that people actually love and critics love.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_01: Um, and I hope that I'm right that critics love this.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_01: I just remember when it came out that everyone was like losing it over it, and I will probably get some hate for this.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: But Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for picking that.
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_01: I I'm sorry, like I I don't want to be like I'm a huge Quentin Tarantino fan, but I have like many others seen most of his movies.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_01: Like we've all seen a like pretty much his entire w whether we want to or not, you know, they're they're huge movies, so we all see them.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_01: So, you know, being a fan of like Pulp Fiction, I even liked Hateful Eight.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_01: Like, I I liked a lot of his movies, and so I think I went in with certain expectations, and I'm not a big fan of movies about nothing.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_01: And that's what I felt like it was.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: And being a fan of like true crime and the Manson murders, and I was like, what is this?
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_01: And there was only one interesting scene in the entire movie, and it was that scene.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: And everything else was kind of just fluff.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_02: I hated it.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_01: I didn't get it.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_01: I went to go see it in theaters.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_01: I was so excited for it.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_01: I obviously love so many of the actors.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_01: Uh Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, like all these people, and then it was just like, what is this?
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_01: I completely agree.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_01: I didn't get it.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_01: And then the whole Bruce Lee thing I was very upset with.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 1:14:10SPEAKER_02: And he's only making it worse at the moment.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_01: He's just like defending the choice and everything.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_01: I it was such a miss for me.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_01: And so many people I know that I with opinions that I respect went to go see it several times.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_01: So they wouldn't even love it.
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_01: It was like it evoked a certain feeling.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: I I don't it I I don't get it.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_01: And I get that it was nice to see Brad Pitt with his shirt off, but that was pretty much that, and the scene where everyone gets killed was like, that was it.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_01: So that is overrated to me, very much so.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_02: I completely agree with you.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_02: I it took like it was an effort to watch that movie.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_02: I I watched it at home, but it was an effort to get through it.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_02: Nothing happens! I found it so boring until that stuff until those scenes at the end.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_02: I was just like, what is this movie?
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_02: What is going on here?
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_02: Like, what are you trying to s even say with this m with this movie?
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, like what is the message?
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_02: There's not I like I I'm usually okay with movies about nothing as well.
- 1:15:20SPEAKER_02: I'm usually okay with that.
- 1:15:21SPEAKER_02: I just really didn't like it here.
- 1:15:23SPEAKER_02: And I felt it was I felt it exploited a lot of the stuff with like the Manson's murders.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_02: I felt it was uh it was really offensive for Bruce Lee.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_01: So offensive.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_01: Unnecessarily, yeah.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_02: And I did not like it.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_02: I think it is his worst movie.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, a hundred for me a hundred percent.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_01: Uh, because I've like, I think I've seen nearly all of them.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: I think I haven't seen Jackie Brown.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_02: Um Jackie Brown is my favorite.
- 1:15:53SPEAKER_01: Is your favorite?
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_01: Okay, I have to watch it.
- 1:15:55SPEAKER_02: Um but I But it's the it's also the pretentious pig.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know what my favorite is, and I also um uh what's the one with uh the Nazis?
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_02: Inglorious Bastards.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_01: Inglorious Bastards, that's great.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_01: Like, you know, there's so many, so many good ones.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: Um and when I said that I don't love movies about nothing, not that I want to retract my statement, but I immediately thought of oh, like one of my favorite movies is Dazed and Confused.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_01: And that movie is technically about nothing.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_01: But I don't know why it doesn't bother me.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_02: Because it's still interesting.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's things are happening, and also it's definitely like coming of age, it's you know, about teenhood and things like that.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: So it kind of is about something.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_01: This was just like Hollywood, baby.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_02: I don't know, like it just feels like everything that you it's like every stereotype you can imagine about Tarantino is put into this movie.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_02: And it's so he's so far up himself here.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_01: He he is so far up his own ass.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_01: Like that is really what it is.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_02: And here's another thing as well.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_02: You said you love the hateful eight.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_02: I don't I think his last good movie was Inglorious Bastards, and I think since then he's been getting progressively worse.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so when was Django?
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_02: 2012.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_01: So that was before Inglorious Bastards?
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_02: That was 2009.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, sorry.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_01: So I I did enjoy Django, even though that also has is very problematic in its own way.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I mean you know, we don't have to go there, but um Hateful Eight was definitely not like, wow, I need to re-watch this and I love it so much.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_01: It was just like I went to the theater to see it, I enjoyed it, I left.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_01: I didn't feel as angry as I did when I left Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_01: Like I was just like, what did I just pay money for?
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_02: That's how I was angry.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_02: That makes sense.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_02: I I'm trying to think.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_02: I I also think that the last of his movies that I saw in theaters was Django.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, mine would mine would be I I guess I've seen a lot of them.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_01: Not the Pulp Fiction, I wasn't young, I was too young, um, things like that, but I definitely saw Hateful Eight in theaters.
- 1:18:38SPEAKER_01: I didn't see Django in theaters, I saw it at home, and then I saw Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_01: And the other thing, yeah, like sorry, that movie was also so hyped up.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so much so.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_01: Not as much as Hateful Eight.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: Like, Hateful Eight was not that hyped.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_01: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was like they were at Can and the whole cast was a huge deal out of this movie, massive deal, and it was this star-studded cast, and then I was like, it's not I thought it was gonna be amazing.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_02: Same.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_02: I thought I thought it was gonna be incredible.
- 1:19:14SPEAKER_02: I thought it was gonna be his his like best work.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_01: Same, and the the previews were made it seem funny and like interesting, and and all of the stuff like around it, it's like stuff that I'm interested in as well.
- 1:19:32SPEAKER_02: Right, I love old Hollywood, yeah, and then it's just so boring.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_01: Could not be more boring.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm glad, wow, I'm glad we agree, and we were able to like rip this apart, you know?
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_02: I find it so boring, and it's so long.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: So long.
- 1:19:48SPEAKER_01: And it it was it highly rated?
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_01: Did you check?
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_02: It's very highly rated, yeah.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_01: Great, okay, yeah.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_01: So I I can honestly say it is way too overrated.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_02: Let me see what it's actually-I know it, I know it's very highly rated, but like I'm just gonna see what the actual score is.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:20:03SPEAKER_02: So it's 85%.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_01: Um That's that's really high.
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_02: It is, yeah.
- 1:20:08SPEAKER_01: Nope.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_01: Not for me.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_02: The audience is 70% on it as well, so even the audience love it.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_01: That's still high.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_02: And it grossed more than uh little Nikki.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm sure.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_02: It grossed 139 million.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 1:20:29SPEAKER_01: That was huge.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_01: I can't believe that little Nikki didn't make its nut.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_01: I didn't realize that.
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_01: Like it did not earn enough to outweigh it.
- 1:20:37SPEAKER_02: You say didn't make its nut.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm so sorry.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_01: I phrased it that way.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_02: I've just never heard that phrase.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_01: I I might even be making up colloquialisms.
- 1:20:50SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:20:51SPEAKER_01: But it didn't make its nut, and I'm gonna stick to it.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, stick to it.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_02: I think that's a good place to end it as well.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's perfect.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_02: All right, well, thank you so much for coming on.
- 1:21:05SPEAKER_02: Um this is so fun.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:21:08SPEAKER_02: How can we uh find you online?
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_02: Did you have anything you want to promote at the moment?
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_01: God, I have a couple things, but um I'm at Britty Migs across all socials.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and you'll spell that out.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_01: It's fine.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'll put it in the comments.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have a web series out right now called Like and Subscribe.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and then also I have a monthly show with uh Nock, who I believe has done the show before.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah, she was on last season uh doing leap year.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, leap year.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_01: What a movie.
- 1:21:38SPEAKER_01: Um but it that is one that I'm like that doesn't sound real, but it is.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_01: Um and we have a monthly show called Regret Roulette, so just check it out.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_01: You'll see it at some point.
- 1:21:53unknown: Great.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_02: Well, thank you so much for coming on, Britt.
- 1:21:55SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_01: This was really, really a good time.
- 1:21:59SPEAKER_02: That's the end of the podcast.
