- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:17Speaker 1: On today's episode, we are kicking off our Hallmark Hall
- 0:20Speaker 1: of Fame Christmas movie review series during the Christmas in
- 0:24Speaker 1: July season with fan favorite Christmas with Holly, which originally
- 0:29Speaker 1: aired in twenty twelve.
- 0:33Speaker 2: On ABC on ABC.
- 0:36Speaker 1: You know, as my husband watched this with me and
- 0:38Speaker 1: he was like, hall of Fame tells me these should
- 0:41Speaker 1: be the best Hallmark movies, and I'm like, no, no, no, no,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you're misunderstanding. These were not movies on Hallmark Channel. These
- 0:47Speaker 1: were like Saturday Night specials. Yeah, created by Hallmark, a
- 0:51Speaker 1: very different type of movie.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Very different. Is he not familiar with the Hall of
- 0:57Speaker 2: Fame ouvra, No he's not. No, he should get on
- 1:01Speaker 2: board because I oh, Megan's making a fame. He's not
- 1:05Speaker 2: a fan. You know, they're all real like movies and
- 1:08Speaker 2: misery vibes. Yeah, that's not his vibe. He is in
- 1:13Speaker 2: the lane of the Hallmark comfort food vibe exactly. You know,
- 1:18Speaker 2: if you missed it earlier this year, we did a
- 1:20Speaker 2: month of Hallmark Hall of Fame reviews. Yes, I've really
- 1:24Speaker 2: turned the corner because I think these movies are incredible.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Same during that month reviews, I think I got really
- 1:32Speaker 2: sick and we had to ditch one of them. Right,
- 1:34Speaker 2: one that I had watched, which I didn't really like.
- 1:37Speaker 2: I can't even remember what it was about. It was
- 1:40Speaker 2: the one with Catherine McPhee. Right. So maybe there's a
- 1:44Speaker 2: hit or miss with some of these. But when I
- 1:47Speaker 2: turn it on, I get into a different like headspace
- 1:50Speaker 2: with these movies, and I don't quite understand why. Just
- 1:53Speaker 2: maybe because I'm like, these are a quality above what
- 1:58Speaker 2: we are typical fairs. I have a feeling though, that
- 2:02Speaker 2: Megan didn't like this movie. No, that's not true. Okay,
- 2:05Speaker 2: I can't wait to get into it. Do you want
- 2:06Speaker 2: a synopsis? I do. After being left at the Altar,
- 2:10Speaker 2: Maggie leaves the big city behind and opens a toy
- 2:13Speaker 2: store in a small Washington town. There she meets Mark,
- 2:17Speaker 2: a coffee shop owner raising his young niece Holly alongside
- 2:20Speaker 2: his two brothers after the death of her mother. As
- 2:24Speaker 2: Holly struggles to find her voice again, Maggie and Mark
- 2:27Speaker 2: discover that healing family and maybe even love can show
- 2:30Speaker 2: up when you least expect it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: This movie was directed by Alan Arkush, who has more
- 2:36Speaker 1: than eighty directing credits. Before becoming a prolific TV director
- 2:39Speaker 1: on series like Moonlighting, Ally McBeal and Heroes. He directed
- 2:44Speaker 1: the nineteen seventy nine cult classic rock and.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Roll High School, starring The Ramone. Have you ever seen it?
- 2:49Speaker 2: I have not? Have you many times? Really this is okay.
- 2:53Speaker 2: First of all, it came out in ninthe that's a
- 2:55Speaker 2: movie or a series. It was a movie, uh huh.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Came out in nineteen seventy nine. When I was a child.
- 3:01Speaker 2: It would air on shout out to anybody who grew
- 3:04Speaker 2: up in southern California KTLA Channel five, like on Friday nights.
- 3:07Speaker 2: It would always air. It's a little like it probably
- 3:12Speaker 2: doesn't hold up in twenty twenty six at all. Even
- 3:15Speaker 2: at the time, I think it might have been a
- 3:17Speaker 2: little TVMA. Oh like a child my age should not
- 3:22Speaker 2: have been watching it. Yeah, I shouldn't have been reading
- 3:24Speaker 2: the book I was reading either, but I remember it.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It has burned a place in my brain.
- 3:29Speaker 1: It is currently streaming on Prime Video and Fubo.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You know that song rock Rock, Rock, Rock, rock and
- 3:36Speaker 2: Roll High School by the Ramones. You really don't Wayne,
- 3:42Speaker 2: email us? Please send me a message. I know, you know,
- 3:46Speaker 2: I kind of feel like I need to watch it.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I think the song came out first and then and
- 3:50Speaker 2: then the movie got it. You know who the Ramones are, right,
- 3:55Speaker 2: I mean, yes, thank you. I'm just asking.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yes, I do know who the Ramones are, but I've
- 4:00Speaker 1: never seen the movie. But now I'm kind of intrigued.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I mean, I was born in nineteen seventy nine.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Really it came out the year you were born. That's crazy.
- 4:10Speaker 2: I remember it was in the eighties that I was
- 4:12Speaker 2: watching this, like nineteen eighty five. I mean, you were
- 4:15Speaker 2: only two when it came out, right forty maybe forever
- 4:19Speaker 2: and ever am In. The script was written by Panina
- 4:21Speaker 2: Goldstein and Lisa Claypus. Panina Goldstein has six writing credits,
- 4:26Speaker 2: including other Hallmark Hall of Fame movies like Loving Leah
- 4:31Speaker 2: and November Christmas. November Christmas is on our Yes, ma'am,
- 4:36Speaker 2: I of movies in our lineup, and Loving Leah is
- 4:40Speaker 2: one that the fans really want us to review at
- 4:42Speaker 2: some point. Yes, this is the only screenwriting credit for
- 4:48Speaker 2: This is the only screenwriting credit for best selling author
- 4:51Speaker 2: Lisa Claypuss Eloie's Mumfird stars as Maggie. Hallmark fans will
- 4:55Speaker 2: know her from Villa A More Sweeter Than Chocolate and
- 4:58Speaker 2: the Presence of Love. I'd love to say her in
- 5:00Speaker 2: a Christmas movie this year. Yeah. Sean Ferris stars as Mark.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Hallmark viewers may recognize him from a Veteran's Christmas, where
- 5:08Speaker 2: he also starred opposite Elouise Mumford. He's also known for
- 5:12Speaker 2: this series Life as We Know It and Pretty Little Liars,
- 5:15Speaker 2: amongst many many other things. You know, I got served
- 5:19Speaker 2: on TikTok eight? Where is Sean Ferris? Where is he now? Video? Yes?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Like last night? Isn't that weird? You know the phones
- 5:28Speaker 2: are listening. I know.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Daniel Eric Gold plays Alex and Dana Watkins plays Scott.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Josie Gilina plays Holly in her first acting role. She
- 5:36Speaker 1: later appeared in four seasons of Boardwalk Empire. When what
- 5:40Speaker 1: was your first impression of Christmas?
- 5:42Speaker 2: With Holly calling this a Christmas movie feels generous?
- 5:46Speaker 1: M My first impression is I know it's not the point,
- 5:50Speaker 1: but this movie did kind of make me want to
- 5:51Speaker 1: move to a small island.
- 5:54Speaker 2: That's funny you bring that up because you know, back
- 5:57Speaker 2: in our blogging days, we were online friendly with a
- 6:02Speaker 2: gal who lived off of an island. I know exactly
- 6:05Speaker 2: who you're talking about. Val Yeah, yeah, I remember her
- 6:09Speaker 2: saying like drones would drop Amazon packages to them or
- 6:13Speaker 2: something like that. Oh.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I think about her all the time in this regard
- 6:17Speaker 1: like living on the island.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so funny. Also, did we pick this movie
- 6:23Speaker 2: or did uh? Did our fans suggest this movie? Because
- 6:29Speaker 2: back to my first impression, it was barely a Christmas movie.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I know it's in my wishes. Okay, all right, let's
- 6:35Speaker 2: talk about our likes. I've already said I enjoy a
- 6:39Speaker 2: Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. They are built differently. I
- 6:43Speaker 2: was pitching it to my husband this weekend because he's like,
- 6:46Speaker 2: why are you watching two Christmas movies? And I told
- 6:48Speaker 2: him what our what our you know, schedule was, and
- 6:52Speaker 2: I'm like, look, these Hall of Fame movies are our
- 6:54Speaker 2: heads and tails better? And I'm like, next week movie
- 6:59Speaker 2: has like I can't I remember Danny Glover in it,
- 7:04Speaker 2: Dermott Milroney. That is a name, Dermott. Why do I
- 7:08Speaker 2: mess that guy's name up every single, I say, Durmt Dolmer.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I don't know why I do it. It's
- 7:15Speaker 2: just my brain mashes them up anyway. I I like
- 7:20Speaker 2: when our movies have a little more meat to them.
- 7:24Speaker 2: I like sitting in uncomfortable yes situations. Me too, Me too.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I don't need I don't need a neat little bow,
- 7:36Speaker 2: no joyful cookie making. I don't need all that.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Okay, I want to talk about that because I saw
- 7:42Speaker 1: some criticism about this movie. Not widespread, but I somehow
- 7:47Speaker 1: landed on a Reddit thread about this movie, and someone
- 7:49Speaker 1: was like, this family deserved to have CPS called on
- 7:52Speaker 1: them because the brothers did not have their act together.
- 7:55Speaker 1: To me, I think that's what's appealing about this movie.
- 7:57Speaker 1: The brothers were imperfect because life is messy. Nobody had
- 8:02Speaker 1: counted on this woman dying and leaving her daughter and
- 8:07Speaker 1: needing her brother to take over as guardian.
- 8:10Speaker 2: And so these.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Brothers, they weren't in a parental place. They didn't know
- 8:14Speaker 1: what they were doing. They had to figure it out.
- 8:16Speaker 2: You know, they burn Thanksgiving dinner and then little brother
- 8:19Speaker 2: comes along and figures out, look, I made this delicious
- 8:21Speaker 2: eggplant parmesan. They figured it out. It was messy and
- 8:25Speaker 2: imperfect because life is like that. Yeah, we have talked
- 8:30Speaker 2: or I think we agree and have said it for
- 8:34Speaker 2: years that messy is okay. Yes, people live in perfect lives.
- 8:39Speaker 2: I know a lot of people who watch Hallmark movies
- 8:41Speaker 2: like it for escapism. They want to see like the
- 8:44Speaker 2: perfect you know.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think the argument would be that this
- 8:47Speaker 1: is not a Hallmark movie, but it's got that Hallmark.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Right, but it's a different era. I agree, I like it.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I speaking of the brothers, these three characters play by
- 9:00Speaker 2: these three different actors actually felt like family. Great casting
- 9:05Speaker 2: as brothers, great casting. It never felt forced or manufactured.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I thought they had a great dynamic. They were annoyed
- 9:12Speaker 2: with each other, they supported each other, they ribbed each
- 9:15Speaker 2: other like Yeah, I thought they had great brotherly energy.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Can I just say damn? Eloise Mumford is so charming.
- 9:23Speaker 2: She's so a miss freaking adorable. I know this is
- 9:26Speaker 2: from twenty twelve, it's a lot of years ago. She's
- 9:31Speaker 2: cute as a button in this movie. She has this
- 9:35Speaker 2: warmth about her. I knew obviously she was going to
- 9:39Speaker 2: have this toy store that would draw houling in and
- 9:43Speaker 2: they would have this special kind of connection. Yeah. I
- 9:47Speaker 2: was rooting for it the entire time. She made me
- 9:50Speaker 2: really like her when she can that lady the manager,
- 9:53Speaker 2: the toy store manager at the very beginning, Yeah, you're
- 9:56Speaker 2: not seeing my vision GTFO. Yeah, I loved it, loved it.
- 10:00Speaker 1: No, it's interesting because this is the second movie that
- 10:02Speaker 1: we're reviewing this week, and the first was Christmas under Construction,
- 10:05Speaker 1: which features cheating partners having an emotional affair. And so
- 10:11Speaker 1: as I'm watching this, I was like, this is the
- 10:13Speaker 1: second movie I'm watching this week where he's having an
- 10:15Speaker 1: emotional affair. Now, it's not as egregious in this because
- 10:19Speaker 1: I do think he's like, perhaps a little bit too
- 10:21Speaker 1: flirtatious with.
- 10:23Speaker 2: When he's got Shelby back in Seattle or wherever.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Well, and even when Shelby's with him, even when he
- 10:30Speaker 1: runs into her at the toy store with Shelby, but
- 10:32Speaker 1: when he runs into her on the street before he's
- 10:34Speaker 1: ended things with Shelby, or I guess before Shelby ends
- 10:37Speaker 1: things with him, she's really like, I can't do this anymore.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I did think he was walking.
- 10:42Speaker 2: The line a little bit there, But they did make
- 10:45Speaker 2: Shelby unlikable enough. Yeah, that didn't really care. Oh look
- 10:51Speaker 2: at that. It's a full about face. I know I'm
- 10:55Speaker 2: a bad person, but Shelby, look, I don't want him.
- 10:58Speaker 2: He should have ended it so that he should have
- 11:00Speaker 2: seen the writing on the wall. I think he was
- 11:03Speaker 2: too far in the mess of dealing with Holly to
- 11:06Speaker 2: be able to focus on this relationship that is not
- 11:09Speaker 2: even in his town. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's too much.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Was it nice for him to have this adult relationship?
- 11:17Speaker 2: You know they kind of allude to, like, oh, let's
- 11:18Speaker 2: have some adult alone time, right, Sure, he has this
- 11:21Speaker 2: person in his life. He enjoyed spending time with them.
- 11:24Speaker 2: She talks about like, oh, you're checking all these milestones.
- 11:27Speaker 2: He's like, they're not even on my radar because I'm
- 11:29Speaker 2: this is so secondary to the real life that I'm living.
- 11:33Speaker 2: But Shelby was like she just wasn't trying to figure
- 11:35Speaker 2: out who Holly was. She wasn't trying to connect with her.
- 11:38Speaker 2: She was playing like TV mommy, like let me buy
- 11:41Speaker 2: you cute clothes and do the fun part of being
- 11:44Speaker 2: the parental role, but not having to do any of
- 11:48Speaker 2: the hard parts, like oh Holly sick, leave her with
- 11:51Speaker 2: your brothers. Yeah, come on, Yeah, but I mean, let's
- 11:54Speaker 2: talk about the bigger thing. You were dealing with a
- 11:56Speaker 2: nonverbal child who was dealing with major post traumat extress. Yeah,
- 12:01Speaker 2: Shelby was not. It. Shelby was not. It's agreed. I
- 12:05Speaker 2: want to talk about the character of Holly. Now. IMDb
- 12:09Speaker 2: only credits one of the twins, Josie Galina, but an
- 12:14Speaker 2: internet search credits both Josie and Lucy Galina, and it
- 12:17Speaker 2: also says that on Borderwick Empire that you shared that
- 12:19Speaker 2: role as well. Interesting.
- 12:21Speaker 1: This little child actress is first of all, so cute,
- 12:25Speaker 1: but I thought she did a really incredible thing with
- 12:30Speaker 1: her facial acting because she doesn't speak through sixty percent
- 12:33Speaker 1: by the movie minds Yeah, and she's still compelling to watch.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And this is a young child. Now, perhaps she's just
- 12:42Speaker 1: reacting to what's being said to her, but it could
- 12:45Speaker 1: have gone a very different way, choosing a child and
- 12:48Speaker 1: having to be like, okay, just don't say anything.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that scene where she's with her uncle and he
- 12:55Speaker 2: pulls out the starfish and she's so reserved, like sitting there,
- 12:58Speaker 2: like with her hands folded. She's giving all the face
- 13:01Speaker 2: like I don't trust you, I don't know what you're
- 13:04Speaker 2: talking about like I'm not giving into like your silly antics,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and then like she they have this like nice moment.
- 13:11Speaker 2: That was great. I was very impressed with this young actor.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I'm telling you, she actually is the one that made
- 13:19Speaker 2: me cry watching this. When she turns to Mark, uncle
- 13:26Speaker 2: Mark and asks if he will be her dad, I mean,
- 13:31Speaker 2: obviously I saw it coming, but come on, I know
- 13:35Speaker 2: that's such a.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Nice scene when she's like, well, he's my favorite uncle,
- 13:39Speaker 1: but he's my other favorite uncle.
- 13:40Speaker 2: And then like you knew what she was gonna say,
- 13:42Speaker 2: and I was like, oh my gosh, yeah, I thought
- 13:46Speaker 2: it was very It was. It was very tug at
- 13:48Speaker 2: your heart strings. It was the payoff I was hoping for.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Of course, you know, it was the payoff I was
- 13:55Speaker 2: hoping for. And we kind of touched on it. But
- 13:58Speaker 2: about life being messy like this wasn't. This story as
- 14:02Speaker 2: a whole kind of treats grief with a lot of respect.
- 14:06Speaker 2: It doesn't just say like, oh, it's going to be
- 14:07Speaker 2: fixed by this Christmas gift that Maggie gives her or whatever.
- 14:13Speaker 2: It's just you know, it's it's just enough like for
- 14:17Speaker 2: to give the audience like they give grief the right
- 14:20Speaker 2: amount of space, Yes, it needs and still a little
- 14:24Speaker 2: bit of like Christmas matchic, of course without hitting us
- 14:27Speaker 2: over the head with it.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Yes, because this movie does share something in common with
- 14:31Speaker 1: the other movie we discussed this week, Christmas under Construction.
- 14:34Speaker 2: I appreciate that we got to see some actual movement
- 14:37Speaker 2: on the house, like we saw Holly's room makeover. I
- 14:42Speaker 2: just wish we had more.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Sure, I wish we had more, and I wish they
- 14:45Speaker 1: hadn't painted the house and Christmas colors like they paint
- 14:47Speaker 1: the walls red and green other than Holly's Room.
- 14:49Speaker 2: I was like, what are we doing? Although I did
- 14:51Speaker 2: like that green, But I'm glad at the end, like
- 14:54Speaker 2: we've seen.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Some progress on the house. It's come together. We show
- 14:57Speaker 1: them we see way more progress in this we did
- 15:00Speaker 1: in the Construction movie, and that movie's about a renovation.
- 15:04Speaker 2: I know, I was kind of hoping, you know, when
- 15:08Speaker 2: Maggie gets to the to her store and it's been
- 15:11Speaker 2: painted pink blush and she wanted to be white, and
- 15:15Speaker 2: then she starts to try to paint it white and
- 15:17Speaker 2: it becomes too overwhelming, and I was like, I kind
- 15:19Speaker 2: of was hoping for like a like a reveal, like
- 15:23Speaker 2: she did it her own way, but they just kept
- 15:25Speaker 2: it the same, like, yeah, I don't know, it looks
- 15:28Speaker 2: better though, And part of me couldn't help but compare
- 15:32Speaker 2: it didn't in a presence of love. Wasn't she like.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, she was working with the daughter whose mom
- 15:38Speaker 1: had run off. Yeah, she was like helping her with
- 15:40Speaker 1: her writing.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Writing, That's what it was, right. But did she own
- 15:43Speaker 2: like a bookstore or something like that? And I thought
- 15:47Speaker 2: she was a writer who was on this chair. That's right,
- 15:50Speaker 2: that's right, that's right. I don't know. In my head,
- 15:52Speaker 2: I was like, in my head, I wanted her to
- 15:55Speaker 2: create the little the the You've got Madu the I
- 16:01Speaker 2: wanted her to create the cute little bookstore, bookshop around
- 16:06Speaker 2: the corner. Oh and You've got mail? Yeah, from You've
- 16:09Speaker 2: Got Mail, I can't remember. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what
- 16:12Speaker 2: I was hoping for.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Visually, Yeah, yeah, you wanted more like classic than like
- 16:17Speaker 1: screams very Children, Yes, yeah.
- 16:20Speaker 2: And part of me I was like, wouldn't that be
- 16:22Speaker 2: so fun? You know Maggie talks about like, oh, I
- 16:25Speaker 2: spent my summers here and I wanted to have a
- 16:27Speaker 2: store here. Wouldn't that be fun to run a toy store.
- 16:30Speaker 2: In my mind, it's like not a toy store, but
- 16:33Speaker 2: it's like a kind of a little bit of a
- 16:35Speaker 2: catch all like books and some toys and some little homesbaker, yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 2: on a small little island, and maybe a coffeehouse too. Perfect. Yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 2: come and hang out and read and yeah, doesn't that
- 16:49Speaker 2: sound lovely? Is that our two gold toys brains? Next,
- 16:52Speaker 2: maybe I have a couple of little likes. You know,
- 16:55Speaker 2: I love a boat Braide. I like the inclusion of that.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And I also liked Maggie comes to Mark when she's
- 17:03Speaker 1: basically apologizing for kind of like giving him the wrong
- 17:06Speaker 1: idea about what she was saying, and she's.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Like, I was wondering if you'd like to have some
- 17:09Speaker 2: donuts with me. Look, that's nice because we're not like
- 17:12Speaker 2: I love you, let me be Holly's new mommy. It's
- 17:15Speaker 2: just like a nice like, let's explore what this relationship
- 17:18Speaker 2: could be. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I thought it was nice.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Let's take a good break and we will come back
- 17:24Speaker 1: with our wishes. Wendy, what did you wish for while
- 17:34Speaker 1: watching this?
- 17:35Speaker 2: I only have a few. First is I could have
- 17:38Speaker 2: skipped the runaway groom opening scene. There wasn't like Maggie
- 17:45Speaker 2: gets left at the altar, right, and it feels a
- 17:49Speaker 2: little bit disconnected from the rest of the movie. In
- 17:52Speaker 2: my opinion, I'm not convinced we need it. I would
- 17:56Speaker 2: have I was like, what's happening here? Like, yes, you
- 18:00Speaker 2: know what was happening. So I think I would have
- 18:04Speaker 2: rather if the movie spent more time looking at Holly.
- 18:10Speaker 2: We could have just been told that Holly was left
- 18:12Speaker 2: at the altar, give me, give me more context and
- 18:14Speaker 2: why she's choosing to leave the city and move to
- 18:18Speaker 2: the island, and yes, are her life? Yeah, I agree.
- 18:21Speaker 2: I think that would have been better.
- 18:24Speaker 1: So my biggest wish is really just a complaint, and
- 18:26Speaker 1: it's something you mentioned already.
- 18:28Speaker 2: This isn't a Christmas movie.
- 18:30Speaker 1: And as mentioned, my husband was watching this with me
- 18:33Speaker 1: and within the first three minutes was he revolting. He
- 18:39Speaker 1: grabbed my phone and he typed in my notes. Starts
- 18:43Speaker 1: off with no Christmas spirit, no Christmas decorations, and no
- 18:46Speaker 1: upbeat Christmas music on the intro. He will judge a
- 18:50Speaker 1: movie within the first thirty seconds like he wants to
- 18:52Speaker 1: be drawn in, give me merry Christmas vibes right away.
- 18:56Speaker 1: This was not that movie it ends with Christmas, but
- 18:59Speaker 1: that it's five percent of the movie zero stars from
- 19:02Speaker 1: your husband is it's not a Christmas movie in my opinion,
- 19:07Speaker 1: they're not even like building towards Christmas the way a lot.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Of you know. It just happened to just be time passes.
- 19:13Speaker 1: There is Christmas in the movie, but I even think
- 19:16Speaker 1: the name Christmas with Holly isn't accurate.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Doesn't have anything to do with it. It doesn't really,
- 19:23Speaker 2: It doesn't change that.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I liked the movie, but it's not a Christmas movie,
- 19:27Speaker 1: and so this one did not pass muster for mister
- 19:31Speaker 1: girls Gone Hallmark, got it?
- 19:34Speaker 2: Is that your only witch? You only have one more? Okay,
- 19:37Speaker 2: let me hear your other I have two more. I
- 19:39Speaker 2: thought the storytelling was a little bit slow. Oh I
- 19:42Speaker 2: wrote that too. That is why it was kind of slow.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And I did say that I appreciated that we got
- 19:49Speaker 2: to sit in the mess a little bit, but I
- 19:52Speaker 2: I don't know how we could have done it better.
- 19:54Speaker 2: But I did feel like was taking a little bit
- 19:57Speaker 2: to get there. I agree with you. I absolutely agree.
- 20:01Speaker 2: My other wish is I would loved more context about
- 20:05Speaker 2: Holly's mom up top. We eventually kind of get to
- 20:09Speaker 2: it when they have, when Mark and Maggie have a
- 20:12Speaker 2: conversation about how he became you know, like you know,
- 20:16Speaker 2: he cared for his sister very much, she cared for
- 20:19Speaker 2: him very much, and how he became Holly's like guardian
- 20:24Speaker 2: or whatever. But you know, it would have been I
- 20:28Speaker 2: think if they would have gotten rid of the whole
- 20:32Speaker 2: Maggie left at the altar, maybe had more contexts in
- 20:35Speaker 2: terms of what happened to Holly's mom, how did she
- 20:38Speaker 2: become this nonverbal child, That would have given more depth
- 20:44Speaker 2: to the movie.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I agree, I think they should have talked about her.
- 20:47Speaker 1: They hardly talk about her. He brings out the photo
- 20:50Speaker 1: of the brothers around Holly's age, and that's sweet, but yeah,
- 20:54Speaker 1: they should have been talking about her a lot. And
- 20:56Speaker 1: where are their parents at I don't remember. I mean,
- 20:59Speaker 1: they could have passed, but I just feel like these
- 21:03Speaker 1: guys are young enough that they would have at least
- 21:05Speaker 1: one living parent still. Yeah, and those pretty much wrap
- 21:08Speaker 1: up my wishes too.
- 21:09Speaker 2: All right, let's talk to you to see that I
- 21:11Speaker 2: have two Okay, I actually had secondhand embarrassment with the Irish. Oh.
- 21:17Speaker 2: First of all, when she she did it in front
- 21:19Speaker 2: of it on the corner to him and then fell
- 21:20Speaker 2: off the curb. I was like, that's such a windy move,
- 21:23Speaker 2: like to fall down like that, and then she does
- 21:26Speaker 2: it in the bar. Yeah. I was kind of embarrassed. Me,
- 21:29Speaker 2: I was. I was embarrassed, and I wonder if I
- 21:31Speaker 2: said please make it stop. Eloise Mumford was embarrassed, Like
- 21:34Speaker 2: unless she knows how to Irish jig, she doesn't. Yeah,
- 21:38Speaker 2: it didn't look like real Irish jigging to me.
- 21:41Speaker 1: No, no, no, other than like the big jump straight
- 21:44Speaker 1: up was aggressive.
- 21:45Speaker 2: She did get a good.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Amount of air, but I don't think she has Irish
- 21:48Speaker 1: dancing in her background. In twenty twelve, was like, was
- 21:52Speaker 1: Michael Flatley big?
- 21:53Speaker 2: Was that big? Trying to read? I know it definitely
- 21:57Speaker 2: had it.
- 21:58Speaker 1: There was a there was a moment, right, it was
- 21:59Speaker 1: a Moment's a moment.
- 22:02Speaker 2: My other did you see that is? Did you notice
- 22:05Speaker 2: actress Jane June played the teacher. She plays Sue in
- 22:09Speaker 2: Mistletone Murders? Yes, thank you? All right, I have a
- 22:13Speaker 2: couple digit say. That's.
- 22:14Speaker 1: First of all, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to
- 22:16Speaker 1: pick up starfish who are alive, even if you are
- 22:19Speaker 1: a scientist.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I was wondering that too. I mean, if you go
- 22:22Speaker 2: to a tide pool. You know my husband and I
- 22:24Speaker 2: were re recently and be able to touch with your finger. Well, yes,
- 22:27Speaker 2: I got an aquarium.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But if you go my husband and I were in
- 22:30Speaker 1: Canon Beach and they have tide pools around Haystack Rock,
- 22:33Speaker 1: and there's science everywhere that are like, do not touch
- 22:35Speaker 1: the wildlife, do not touch. Maybe that's a little bit
- 22:37Speaker 1: different when you have hundreds of tourists and one scientist.
- 22:40Speaker 2: But I don't think you're supposed to pick them up.
- 22:42Speaker 1: When Mark is running through the streets looking for Holly
- 22:46Speaker 1: after she's wandered off, he does like that football faint
- 22:50Speaker 1: twice as he's like darting.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Through the crowd. I was like, does Jehan Ferris have
- 22:53Speaker 2: a football background? He's like jukeen, yes, yes, exactly, thank you.
- 22:57Speaker 2: You've seen a small girl? Have you seen a small girl? Yeah? Yeah.
- 23:01Speaker 2: That stressed me out. I mean, obviously Holly's going to
- 23:03Speaker 2: go to the toy store stores. But I was like,
- 23:07Speaker 2: slow down, you're not even letting these people answer you.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I'm mad at this point. Plus, do you have a
- 23:15Speaker 2: phone with a photo of her? Like, have you seen
- 23:17Speaker 2: this small girl, not just any small girl.
- 23:20Speaker 1: But I don't think his like their phones. I don't
- 23:22Speaker 1: think were were they sending photos.
- 23:25Speaker 2: I got an iPhone in two thousand and eight after
- 23:28Speaker 2: my daughter was born, So that's that's the really, that's
- 23:31Speaker 2: the marking it my earth. I think that's very early
- 23:34Speaker 2: iPhone adoption. I'm sure you did too. No, I was BlackBerry,
- 23:38Speaker 2: but look at you BlackBerry. For several years, I had
- 23:43Speaker 2: a razor flip phone pink was it pink?
- 23:47Speaker 1: Silver? Because I was older than you. I would get
- 23:50Speaker 1: a pink phone today. So I don't understand the reference. Okay,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I was trying to be more mature because I'm an
- 23:55Speaker 1: adult to two more. When Maggie's is there is saying
- 24:00Speaker 1: goodbye to the dog Olive I loved Olive.
- 24:03Speaker 2: She does the Sammy Sosa. She's like, oh now, Megan,
- 24:08Speaker 2: just like this, pounded her chest and then a peace sign.
- 24:11Speaker 1: It's like, very Sammy Sosa. Look the Sammy Sosa. Mark
- 24:14Speaker 1: McGuire home run race. You would see him do the
- 24:17Speaker 1: I'm sure he's not the only person who does it,
- 24:19Speaker 1: but in my mind, when I see someone do it,
- 24:21Speaker 1: it's the Sammy Sosa.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Finally, Shelby says, so I'm not gonna be number one ever,
- 24:28Speaker 1: I wrote, duh, Shelby, you know this.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Line stuck with me for a little bit. Yeah, because
- 24:35Speaker 2: I really thought about it, and I thought about there
- 24:38Speaker 2: are like two camps of people who who believe that
- 24:42Speaker 2: your spouse should be your number one right, and children
- 24:46Speaker 2: come after that, And then there's the other version. Yeah,
- 24:49Speaker 2: I'm team other version, like my key too, my kid
- 24:52Speaker 2: is number one. Sorry. Same, They've come from me. They
- 24:56Speaker 2: are like of my DNA and everything. Right, Yes, even
- 25:01Speaker 2: if they weren't, like I'm not, yes, they were not
- 25:03Speaker 2: a biological child like absolutely, yes.
- 25:06Speaker 1: My children are always gonna be my number one priority
- 25:08Speaker 1: always sorry husband, end of sorry. Yeah, acually in Holly situation,
- 25:15Speaker 1: this is not just his child. This is the child
- 25:18Speaker 1: that he is guardian of because her mother died, who
- 25:20Speaker 1: was traumatized. No, you're never gonna come.
- 25:23Speaker 2: First, Yeah, Shelby, see your way out. Gee t f
- 25:27Speaker 2: Oh what did you rate Christmas with Holly? I gave
- 25:30Speaker 2: it three point seventy five stars. That's exactly what I
- 25:33Speaker 2: gave it. I thought it was a sweet movie. Yeah,
- 25:36Speaker 2: I'm hoping we get more Christmas. WHOA, that's a sentence
- 25:40Speaker 2: you never thought you'd hear from Wendy. I know, I know,
- 25:43Speaker 2: I know, but I'm My frame of mind is it's July.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Give me the Christmas. This is what we're doing. Mmm,
- 25:51Speaker 2: I'm prepped for it.
