- 1:23Speaker 7: Baseball is underway, I mean Major League Baseball is underway.
- 1:27Speaker 4: Cease fire in a row for the Pirates, No way,
- 1:29Speaker 4: it's five in a row. Baby, get out of here.
- 1:32Speaker 8: How about that?
- 1:33Speaker 7: Hey, Andrew McCutcheon started off, Well, he's kind of slowed
- 1:38Speaker 7: down since his.
- 1:38Speaker 8: Angel show up.
- 1:39Speaker 4: He's thirty nine.
- 1:41Speaker 8: I'm just trying to get over driving in a little
- 1:44Speaker 8: bit of nostalgia, realizing there's a twelve point twelve days
- 1:48Speaker 8: left in this unbeaten spring season.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Yes, football, Yeah, and then what are we gonna do?
- 1:52Speaker 7: It goes by so quick it dois man, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 7: then it goes in a hurry.
- 1:58Speaker 8: Then you go like on spring seasons.
- 2:02Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, so we will have from April the
- 2:07Speaker 7: nineteenth to August. Well, honestly, in July at the media
- 2:13Speaker 7: day is kind of the kickoff, but still until they
- 2:17Speaker 7: play a football game, I think.
- 2:18Speaker 6: They're gonna lose a lose at the spring media days.
- 2:22Speaker 4: You do you think there's gonna be a loss there.
- 2:24Speaker 6: Yeah, there's gonna be there, gonna be O one hit
- 2:26Speaker 6: it in the season.
- 2:27Speaker 4: That's not possible. That is not that has never happened.
- 2:31Speaker 8: First of all, you could refocus Missouri State right now
- 2:34Speaker 8: is a little bit scared. You're opening with A and M.
- 2:37Speaker 8: If you're in Missouri State, you're kind of worried.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, I guess I would love to hear the
- 2:42Speaker 4: late great Lou Holts talk about Missouri State. You can
- 2:47Speaker 4: do those are that this is the greatest team we've
- 2:50Speaker 4: I think we've ever played.
- 2:53Speaker 8: Show us from the state.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Yeah, so I I went to Opening Day Friday. I
- 3:02Speaker 4: love Opening Day. I love the pomp and the circumstance.
- 3:04Speaker 7: I love all the intros of the Ooplah. I love
- 3:08Speaker 7: the fact that Jay Cottinger threw out the first pitch
- 3:11Speaker 7: wearing his team USA jersey with the gold medal around
- 3:14Speaker 7: his neck. I think that was probably one of two
- 3:19Speaker 7: times Ranger fans had to really cheer, was the first
- 3:24Speaker 7: pitch and then a little bit later on. Anyway, Uh,
- 3:30Speaker 7: five in a row, cease, Wow, I would take that
- 3:33Speaker 7: right now.
- 3:34Speaker 8: At least I know they're gonna win five games. Look
- 3:36Speaker 8: at the bright side.
- 3:37Speaker 6: You know, I don't know if it's if the it's
- 3:41Speaker 6: just because last year that at the like it's all gone.
- 3:45Speaker 6: All the excitement from the first week has gone for me.
- 3:49Speaker 7: They scored four runs in three games. That was just
- 3:51Speaker 7: like last year that hadn't changed.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Well, they scored more than that the first game.
- 3:56Speaker 7: No, no, no, I mean I mean this weekend. Oh yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 7: I got Cincinnati. You're right, Yeah, you're right.
- 4:01Speaker 4: So they made the they made the Reds look like
- 4:03Speaker 4: that Baltimore Orioles staff. I'll tell you what. The kid
- 4:06Speaker 4: is pitched yesterday. Oh he was. He had stuff, man,
- 4:10Speaker 4: I mean, and so did Jack Lyder. Litter was great.
- 4:12Speaker 6: The other thing Ltder didn't have is that he struggled
- 4:15Speaker 6: my first inning and he got to me pitches.
- 4:17Speaker 7: But me, I tell you what the Rangers don't have
- 4:20Speaker 7: La de la Cruz. Yeah, you're right, that kid is.
- 4:23Speaker 7: He's twenty four years old. If you guys don't know
- 4:25Speaker 7: who I'm talking about, he's been an All Star both years.
- 4:28Speaker 4: He's six six.
- 4:30Speaker 7: He just lights up his field. He just makes it happen,
- 4:34Speaker 7: and he did all weekend. That's why he's an All
- 4:37Speaker 7: Star already. This kid has just unlimited potential.
- 4:41Speaker 6: Yeah, once he gets on base. I mean he's a
- 4:43Speaker 6: threat to st He.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Has it all, yeah, I mean he has it all
- 4:48Speaker 4: to be a wide receiver.
- 4:49Speaker 7: I'm telling you, I don't think that you put him
- 4:52Speaker 7: on one side at Isaiah Horton on the other, you're.
- 4:56Speaker 6: They cannot pay him enough.
- 4:58Speaker 4: No, he's no, they could no, they could not, They
- 5:02Speaker 4: could not pay him enough.
- 5:03Speaker 6: I'm telling you this, that kids speciales. He you know,
- 5:07Speaker 6: he's got power too. I mean hit the home run
- 5:10Speaker 6: the first game.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And he has everything. So, I mean he's got the glove,
- 5:13Speaker 4: he's got everything.
- 5:14Speaker 7: Yeah, he's he's pretty impressible this weekend. Jim Schleasnegel returns.
- 5:19Speaker 8: You think people get excited about that?
- 5:21Speaker 4: You think so?
- 5:22Speaker 7: I already looked on the prices. Apparently they're pretty excited
- 5:25Speaker 7: about it.
- 5:26Speaker 8: Well, saw those people out that Snook cemetery.
- 5:32Speaker 4: They're they're driving up the price exactly.
- 5:34Speaker 8: I wonder he's gonna go out there have an autograph session.
- 5:36Speaker 8: They are a lake, you'll sign tickets World Series tickets.
- 5:42Speaker 8: What do you think about that? His fam member out
- 5:45Speaker 8: there when he was here?
- 5:46Speaker 4: Yeah, he was, but never show up.
- 5:48Speaker 6: I'd removed him as fast as possible. Yeah, I called
- 5:52Speaker 6: the athletic apartment next day, and when I got home
- 5:54Speaker 6: from my omahas like, okay to resign this camp.
- 5:57Speaker 8: Yes, did he cheat on his golf score?
- 6:00Speaker 4: That's why he actually did.
- 6:01Speaker 6: He wasn't a golfer, he didn't play golf, so but
- 6:03Speaker 6: I'm sure that he would have. He cheated on everything else.
- 6:07Speaker 6: So yeah, you know, I'm from Fort Worth, o Rigley,
- 6:15Speaker 6: so half tized.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 8: You got some first hand experience here.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Well inside knowledge there.
- 6:22Speaker 8: Yeah, good, that's good. Let's be honest. You get to
- 6:25Speaker 8: get a weekend like this A and M in Texas
- 6:27Speaker 8: and baseball you throw in slashnagel who I can I
- 6:31Speaker 8: can spell? He was there so long I could spell
- 6:32Speaker 8: his name, which is hard to do.
- 6:34Speaker 7: And no, you just pronounced it. That's the important thing. See,
- 6:38Speaker 7: I'm shocked he paid me. Did you pronounce his name?
- 6:42Speaker 4: Right?
- 6:42Speaker 6: You know what I mean. It's great for the fans,
- 6:45Speaker 6: but it's it's still I mean, it's just baseball. I
- 6:48Speaker 6: mean it really is, because I mean you cannot afford
- 6:50Speaker 6: to be like you can't let your motions go in baseball.
- 6:53Speaker 4: I mean cannot It's just three games.
- 6:55Speaker 7: But but we have seen emotions kind of rising to
- 6:59Speaker 7: the surface. Even though before the schlostagg right, because it's
- 7:03Speaker 7: still a him in Texas, and even before he got
- 7:06Speaker 7: there the two years ago, right there there there was
- 7:10Speaker 7: some things going on. Oh there's all these things going
- 7:14Speaker 7: on and saying him in Texas for God's sake. So
- 7:17Speaker 7: so when you have Schlasnagel thrown into the mix, you're right, cease,
- 7:22Speaker 7: I you know you you have to have this man,
- 7:26Speaker 7: you have to have this control. We've talked about it.
- 7:29Speaker 7: When you're batting, when you're pinching, you can't. You can't
- 7:34Speaker 7: be a linebacker in baseball.
- 7:36Speaker 6: You cannot play baseball, and a lot of people don't.
- 7:37Speaker 4: You can't like that.
- 7:38Speaker 6: You cannot play with mentality of football play you can't.
- 7:42Speaker 6: There's no way. It's it's more like you have to
- 7:44Speaker 6: play like a golfer. Yeah, and that's that's that's a
- 7:47Speaker 6: good point. And you have to maintain your poise. And
- 7:50Speaker 6: so if you allow those emotions to get the best
- 7:52Speaker 6: of you, the other teams are won. I mean, if
- 7:55Speaker 6: they get inside your head, then if you go to
- 7:57Speaker 6: play angry that's already been beeting.
- 8:01Speaker 8: Yeah, you're right, rusty, because it's they got to you
- 8:03Speaker 8: think of a golfer a lot of times still choking
- 8:06Speaker 8: the back nine or the last three holes. But if
- 8:08Speaker 8: you're playing a of Texas, you got to keep that
- 8:10Speaker 8: for twenty seven possible hitting, right, you know, that's for
- 8:13Speaker 8: the starters. That's a long weekend when you're grinding and
- 8:16Speaker 8: you know, Schloashnagel is trying to get into your head
- 8:19Speaker 8: and the fans are trying to get into Texas people
- 8:22Speaker 8: players head. That's hard to do.
- 8:24Speaker 6: No, I mean it's great. It's absolutely great for the
- 8:27Speaker 6: fans because the fans can be as emotional as they
- 8:29Speaker 6: want to be, right, but they're not playing the game,
- 8:32Speaker 6: and it's still about you know, okay, pitching, hitting and
- 8:36Speaker 6: catching exactly Now, if a pitcher throws inside, I mean
- 8:40Speaker 6: the dougouts can you know, you're up in those kind
- 8:43Speaker 6: of things. But it's still I mean, the managers can
- 8:46Speaker 6: be emotional. We see Mike Early be very emotional, right, yeah,
- 8:49Speaker 6: I mean we see them throwing baseball backs, yeah, kind
- 8:52Speaker 6: of at guys running down the first base.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yeah. And so.
- 8:59Speaker 6: But for the player, I think all that emotion probably
- 9:01Speaker 6: should have been gone last year when they played Schlostgo
- 9:05Speaker 6: for the first time. So I think a lot of
- 9:07Speaker 6: these guys on this team didn't play for Slash Neego.
- 9:10Speaker 6: I mean, you think about that. There, there's quite a
- 9:12Speaker 6: few guys that are playing key roles, you know that
- 9:16Speaker 6: that didn't play for Slash. So it's it's an important
- 9:20Speaker 6: weekend for A and M and where they are because
- 9:24Speaker 6: I felt like they they've done everything they needed to
- 9:28Speaker 6: to get back in the race.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I guess they should win five of six.
- 9:32Speaker 6: I really felt like if they went five and one,
- 9:35Speaker 6: they would be sitting really right here. And they all
- 9:37Speaker 6: they did, and they lost the first game to and
- 9:40Speaker 6: they put themselves to kind of behind, you know, put
- 9:42Speaker 6: themselves in pressure there. But they took care of business
- 9:45Speaker 6: on that Saturday, swept them. I mean, and they were
- 9:47Speaker 6: fantastic in the in the finale. And so, I mean
- 9:51Speaker 6: Vandervelt is not that good and they beat them two
- 9:53Speaker 6: out three times like they should. Yes, and they've got
- 9:56Speaker 6: a tough week because I mean they traveled tomorrow night.
- 9:59Speaker 4: It's tough, yep, it is.
- 10:01Speaker 6: I mean south West Texas game.
- 10:03Speaker 4: You know, good, good run good.
- 10:05Speaker 7: Traditionally they've been good the last few years. I mean
- 10:07Speaker 7: they're not as good.
- 10:08Speaker 4: As they've been, but still they can beat you on
- 10:11Speaker 4: Tuesday night. One of the things this team is done, Rusty.
- 10:14Speaker 4: They've owned Tuesdays, which we which we've talked about, really
- 10:18Speaker 4: important to do.
- 10:19Speaker 6: But I think also, you know, from an emotional standpoint, Matt,
- 10:23Speaker 6: I don't know what dangers.
- 10:25Speaker 4: Yeah, they're excited to have a m no.
- 10:27Speaker 7: Doubt, it's a it's a dangerous game, and that you're
- 10:30Speaker 7: you're coming off the two games they have got. They
- 10:34Speaker 7: have gotten the little rest, which is a good thing, right,
- 10:37Speaker 7: and then yeah, and then you've got the horns coming
- 10:40Speaker 7: in Friday.
- 10:41Speaker 4: So in football we call it a trap.
- 10:43Speaker 6: Game, right, I mean in baseball and baseball it's the
- 10:48Speaker 6: pitching is exactly You're as good as the next day's pitching.
- 10:52Speaker 6: And a lot of people who don't follow baseball closely
- 10:55Speaker 6: don't understand it. I mean, they're gonna be tuning in
- 10:58Speaker 6: for this Texas game and they want to see, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 6: like battles with the bats and like, yeah, yeah, you're
- 11:04Speaker 6: charging the man. Also, I don't that's not what this
- 11:07Speaker 6: is about. It's like, Okay, can A and M you know,
- 11:10Speaker 6: be fundamentally solid and can they play?
- 11:12Speaker 4: Can they get a Friday night?
- 11:13Speaker 6: And they get a Friday night picture. Yeah, you know,
- 11:15Speaker 6: you know, and i'd be interesting to see how Mike
- 11:18Speaker 6: early if what he does.
- 11:20Speaker 7: He kind of hinted this weekend rusty, but I don't
- 11:23Speaker 7: know if the decision has been made about that.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Yeah, because Sidale haven't been very good either.
- 11:28Speaker 6: You almost you almost want to see I almost want
- 11:31Speaker 6: to see him start a reliever through the first two
- 11:34Speaker 6: innings and so then brings.
- 11:36Speaker 4: To a bullpen game like well, not necessarily a bullpen game, but.
- 11:40Speaker 7: The road let him let him sit for the first
- 11:42Speaker 7: two first to interesting and then so.
- 11:44Speaker 6: He doesn't have to face these guys because then if
- 11:47Speaker 6: you get him through, it's really.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Guy's got to look at a different picture.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Yeah, and if they're preparing for SIDEO and they see
- 11:56Speaker 6: somebody else, you know, kind of like so mad teams
- 11:58Speaker 6: do they they do it reliever to start the game,
- 12:01Speaker 6: maybe one time through, maybe just want any Yeah, but
- 12:05Speaker 6: if you could avoid you know, facing one, two, three
- 12:08Speaker 6: the first time and get yourself a little confidence and
- 12:11Speaker 6: so we'll I'd like to see some kind of you know,
- 12:14Speaker 6: mix it up, see if you can set some kind
- 12:16Speaker 6: of different tone.
- 12:17Speaker 8: That would be a good idea because it's you're gone
- 12:21Speaker 8: with today all along. You don't want to change anything
- 12:24Speaker 8: to possibly give the other team advantage all that they're
- 12:26Speaker 8: going to their other guy or whatever SIDEO can't do it,
- 12:30Speaker 8: You're right, I mean it's I think it's very.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Tough because I don't want to pull Sadeo in the
- 12:33Speaker 6: first in right, right, So I don't want today. I
- 12:37Speaker 6: don't want to throw Sadeo out there against Texas in
- 12:40Speaker 6: this huge crowd and then have them light him up.
- 12:43Speaker 6: So if I start somebody else with my plan to
- 12:47Speaker 6: bring Sadeo in and the second or third, I think
- 12:49Speaker 6: it takes a lot of pressure off of him, and
- 12:53Speaker 6: so I don't have you know, I don't know if
- 12:55Speaker 6: that's the answer or not.
- 12:56Speaker 8: So that the first guy gets up three home.
- 12:58Speaker 4: I mean, it's not like he does gonna have stuff.
- 13:00Speaker 7: He's striking, he struck out ten batters the other night,
- 13:04Speaker 7: right right.
- 13:05Speaker 6: But when he misses miss hard of the plate, he
- 13:08Speaker 6: has missing right in the middle of the play.
- 13:10Speaker 8: And that fastball can go a long ways when you
- 13:12Speaker 8: hit it right, apparently, I mean, everybody swings from the
- 13:15Speaker 8: hills anymore. I mean, come on, it's.
- 13:16Speaker 6: It's not enough just to have the fastball, the velocity
- 13:21Speaker 6: you've got to have some movement on that and you've.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Got to locate it.
- 13:24Speaker 6: And I watched a lot of these games on TV,
- 13:27Speaker 6: and clearly on TV you can see hard of the
- 13:31Speaker 6: plate man that those misses. How many times has he missed?
- 13:35Speaker 4: Hard to play on O two?
- 13:36Speaker 6: I mean yeah, well in the heart, I mean the
- 13:39Speaker 6: Cardinals sent is giving up the home run on O two. Right,
- 13:43Speaker 6: you miss right down the middle, and sometimes God just
- 13:45Speaker 6: makes an incredible swing, right, But you don't have to
- 13:48Speaker 6: make an incredible swing when you're hard to play.
- 13:51Speaker 8: That's what kind of like this team in the midweek games.
- 13:54Speaker 8: They're such a good hitting team. It's hard for these
- 13:57Speaker 8: pres to put together because like sam Uston came in
- 14:01Speaker 8: last and I thought sam Uston like they threw these
- 14:03Speaker 8: lousy pitchers. Yeah, and almost most I think most mid
- 14:07Speaker 8: majors want to win the game. And I go, is
- 14:08Speaker 8: sam ust to state trying to lose this game? And
- 14:10Speaker 8: of course they've got a couple of good innings, but
- 14:12Speaker 8: those batters A and M batters are just relentless. And
- 14:15Speaker 8: they put that one guy in with a ninety ninety
- 14:18Speaker 8: R and it shot up to like one hundred and fifty.
- 14:21Speaker 8: I mean, ain' and m batters there are there's no
- 14:24Speaker 8: rest from one to nine.
- 14:25Speaker 6: Well, the offense is good enough to get them, I
- 14:28Speaker 6: mean as far as they can possibly go. They're just
- 14:30Speaker 6: gonna have to be a lot better, you know, pitching wise.
- 14:34Speaker 8: And this is a series I'm interested to see how
- 14:36Speaker 8: Early uses his bullpen because we know Schlascheka was pretty good.
- 14:40Speaker 8: Why he uses bullpen over the years he has that
- 14:43Speaker 8: knack for gone out and getting the guy with a
- 14:45Speaker 8: one to two pitch two zero pitch. Yeah, and he
- 14:48Speaker 8: seeming he made the right choices. Will he do it
- 14:50Speaker 8: because there's gonna be a lot of coaches decisions have
- 14:53Speaker 8: to be made, and you wonder who gets the edge there,
- 14:56Speaker 8: because you're right, the players have to keep their control,
- 14:59Speaker 8: but so does the coach.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Yep. Absolutely, That's why it's gonna be pretty decent.
- 15:04Speaker 6: Although I mean a lot I guess that has seen
- 15:07Speaker 6: Mike Eurly get very very emotional and seeing you know,
- 15:12Speaker 6: screaming at and maybe he I don't know that, maybe
- 15:16Speaker 6: his time planned for the Maybe it is so the
- 15:19Speaker 6: players don't have to be that way.
- 15:20Speaker 8: All I know is his top sixteen team right now,
- 15:23Speaker 8: and that's a good place to be yep. And I'll
- 15:25Speaker 8: see what happens this weekend.
- 15:28Speaker 7: The other thing, you know, I think about when you
- 15:31Speaker 7: when you look at how Schlasnagel manages a game, is
- 15:37Speaker 7: it's going to be a four hour game. All his
- 15:39Speaker 7: games are four hour games, right because but but because
- 15:44Speaker 7: those batters are not giving anything away.
- 15:47Speaker 4: You know that. That's one of the things.
- 15:49Speaker 7: I remember, you know when he's here, is they're fouling
- 15:53Speaker 7: off pitches. Man, they are seeing a lot.
- 15:55Speaker 4: He's not going to waste a second to go pull
- 15:57Speaker 4: a pitcher. No, he will not cease mentioned.
- 16:00Speaker 7: He'll go out on a on a two and two
- 16:03Speaker 7: count and change pitchers.
- 16:04Speaker 6: And that's one of the things that I would love
- 16:07Speaker 6: to see college baseball change because I think one of
- 16:09Speaker 6: the best rules, the new rules the Major League Baseball
- 16:12Speaker 6: has implemented it is for the reliever, you bring him in,
- 16:16Speaker 6: he's got to phase three.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Yes, must face two. I love that. I do too.
- 16:21Speaker 4: It has changed changed the game the game, Yes, it has, yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 4: big time. It's so much more important than the pitch clock.
- 16:29Speaker 6: The the other thing that I really like is two
- 16:34Speaker 6: throws over yes the first base, Yes, another one, Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 4: I love those two.
- 16:39Speaker 6: I didn't know that I would at the time, but
- 16:42Speaker 6: it is expeded out of the game. There's so much
- 16:45Speaker 6: more action to major league than there is college now,
- 16:48Speaker 6: And I mean, to me, quite frankly, it's it's more
- 16:51Speaker 6: enjoyable for me to watch a major league game then
- 16:54Speaker 6: that it is college.
- 16:55Speaker 4: There's for me, I will say the same thing.
- 16:58Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not about the Rangers being more important to
- 17:02Speaker 6: me than Aggie's. It's about the speed of the game.
- 17:05Speaker 6: And I'm like, okay, I hate it when there's an
- 17:08Speaker 6: unlimited ability to throw over the first over and over
- 17:12Speaker 6: and over again.
- 17:13Speaker 4: You know, it's like, no, you gotta stop that.
- 17:17Speaker 8: And you touched on it, Chip, I never thought about it.
- 17:19Speaker 8: I think Schlasniko's kind of guy. The longer the game
- 17:22Speaker 8: gets it favors.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Him, and I believe that. Yeah, I do believe that.
- 17:28Speaker 8: I think you're right. And you tie that into him.
- 17:30Speaker 8: He probably goes on Telly, throw over the first base
- 17:32Speaker 8: five times, just get the fans mad, get the players mad.
- 17:36Speaker 8: But we're gonna We're gonna live with that.
- 17:38Speaker 6: Yeah, there's no other quicker way to upset the home
- 17:41Speaker 6: fans than to throw over the first base over and
- 17:44Speaker 6: over again.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, Yeah, that's one of those things.
- 17:47Speaker 6: That's Cardinals things as a baseball fan that I will
- 17:49Speaker 6: never do. I will never boo at a picture thrown
- 17:52Speaker 6: out at first, and he's.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Not gonna do it.
- 17:53Speaker 6: I'm never gonna do the way I'm never gonna boo
- 17:55Speaker 6: when somebody throws over first.
- 17:59Speaker 8: But these are not gonna slide edges that we're talking
- 18:02Speaker 8: about in this gentleman's game where you've got to be
- 18:04Speaker 8: it's a golf game almost, where you're thinking everything hinges
- 18:07Speaker 8: on that good points, good points.
- 18:09Speaker 4: I mean, it will be interesting to see that you
- 18:13Speaker 4: know this the second time around with with Early facing
- 18:18Speaker 4: schlass Nagel, right, Right, I mean you can't help but
- 18:22Speaker 4: compare and see. But I'm not sure it's a fair comparison.
- 18:26Speaker 4: And it has nothing to do with Early's ability. It
- 18:29Speaker 4: has to do with his experience as a head coach
- 18:32Speaker 4: in these types of games, right. I mean, he hasn't managed.
- 18:37Speaker 7: But one year plus this twenty five games so far, right,
- 18:41Speaker 7: So he's a year and a half in. Schlass has
- 18:45Speaker 7: been doing this a long time, Right, He's had lots
- 18:49Speaker 7: of these weekends in his career, right, And so this
- 18:54Speaker 7: is the kind of thing that that you know, you're
- 18:57Speaker 7: you're you're you're.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Paying your coach for can you go up against?
- 19:01Speaker 7: And I realized the players have to play, But but
- 19:05Speaker 7: the coaches, especially in this game, they have tremendous.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Impact and the decisions that are made. Yeah, I think
- 19:13Speaker 4: I was. I was.
- 19:14Speaker 7: I was listening to Eric Nadell postgame driving home on Friday,
- 19:19Speaker 7: and he never does this, but he brought up the
- 19:22Speaker 7: fact that in the seventh inning.
- 19:25Speaker 4: UH, the gore was in.
- 19:29Speaker 7: UH left hander had men on base, was was facing
- 19:36Speaker 7: a right handed batter. He said, I'm I'm I'm surprised
- 19:42Speaker 7: they didn't he didn't switch pit.
- 19:44Speaker 4: There were two outs. That's when Cincinnati got a goal
- 19:49Speaker 4: ahead run the Rangers came back. Could have been the
- 19:52Speaker 4: sixth inning, but the point it was the sixth. But
- 19:55Speaker 4: the point is he didn't change pictures when he could
- 19:59Speaker 4: have and forced Cincinnati to put in, you know, a
- 20:04Speaker 4: pinch hitter, UH in that situation and and it was
- 20:09Speaker 4: and he's but he's man, It's not like he's a
- 20:11Speaker 4: rookie manager. He managed Miami right.
- 20:15Speaker 6: But he just pointed out, well, I was real surprised
- 20:18Speaker 6: yesterday that when the Rangers had two guys on late innings,
- 20:24Speaker 6: the right hander for Cincinnati was on the hill. They
- 20:27Speaker 6: had the left hander warming up, and they left the
- 20:30Speaker 6: right in the face that Evan Carter's yes, and Evan
- 20:33Speaker 6: Carter nearly hit it out the ballpark. But it worked
- 20:37Speaker 6: out for Cincinnati because then they brought the left hander in,
- 20:39Speaker 6: brought Burke in the ninth, and he shut him down.
- 20:42Speaker 4: But I was really surprised.
- 20:44Speaker 6: That they didn't bring in that left hander because then
- 20:47Speaker 6: you take Evan Carter out out, you know, yeah, because
- 20:50Speaker 6: he can't hit against leftis.
- 20:51Speaker 8: Right, right.
- 20:52Speaker 6: So anyway, that one worked out in Cincinnati. I was
- 20:55Speaker 6: really shocked about that one too.
- 20:58Speaker 7: I just I brought up this managers are the coaches thing,
- 21:02Speaker 7: just the sense that to me, that's why a lot
- 21:05Speaker 7: of times I watch baseball because the strategy at this
- 21:08Speaker 7: at this is the game within the game that weekend,
- 21:11Speaker 7: right when you're watching both of these guys, pressure on
- 21:15Speaker 7: both of the big series, big rivalry, and they're coming
- 21:21Speaker 7: in right.
- 21:21Speaker 6: I think the fans have a sense of so much
- 21:23Speaker 6: pressure here because you look at since Texas has rejoined
- 21:27Speaker 6: the SEC in the three major sports, A and M
- 21:30Speaker 6: has one home victory and that was under buzz. Didn't
- 21:33Speaker 6: happen this year, Bucky right and M won over in Austin.
- 21:38Speaker 6: But you think AM has lost both football games that
- 21:41Speaker 6: they had hadn't had a chance to play home against.
- 21:44Speaker 6: But but they lost the home basketball game here this
- 21:48Speaker 6: year and I lost.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Did they not get swept a year ago as well?
- 21:53Speaker 6: No, they won at home under buzz and they lost.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Talking about baseball, and they get swept at Austin last year,
- 22:01Speaker 4: I think they did. Yeah, they got they lost. I
- 22:04Speaker 4: think they lost three games in Austin last year.
- 22:07Speaker 8: They lost three.
- 22:08Speaker 7: But you know what, Yeah, I'm not but trail find
- 22:11Speaker 7: it for me. But I believe they got swept. And
- 22:14Speaker 7: all the games were like you know what you'd expect, right,
- 22:18Speaker 7: those down to the wire kind of.
- 22:21Speaker 8: Bring up a good point, Rusty, winning at home. Nothing
- 22:24Speaker 8: beats your rivalry when you win at home, or nothing's
- 22:27Speaker 8: better for the player when you win at the posing place,
- 22:30Speaker 8: right and shut them up and leave the park all three.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Yeah, they lost three at Austin last year.
- 22:36Speaker 8: You think about the atmosphere in those baseball games when
- 22:38Speaker 8: they weren't in the conference, those were pretty big.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah, they weren't playing as often, right, and it plays
- 22:46Speaker 4: often now you're playing buy Yeah.
- 22:48Speaker 7: And there's more on the line because it is conference.
- 22:52Speaker 6: It's just one of those things when you lose your
- 22:54Speaker 6: arrival like that. He's like, I'm staying away from social media. Yeah,
- 22:59Speaker 6: I'm just handle it.
- 23:01Speaker 8: In some cases, you mightn't want to go to church.
- 23:03Speaker 6: She said that after hat him lost to Texas and football,
- 23:06Speaker 6: and he was like, I'm really I was really impressed
- 23:08Speaker 6: with your response.
- 23:09Speaker 4: I was like, because I didn't say anything, that was
- 23:12Speaker 4: my point. My wife took my phone away.
- 23:16Speaker 8: Sometimes that's a good thing.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Yeah, she said that night when I was up and
- 23:21Speaker 6: she's like, I'll take that to bed with me.
- 23:23Speaker 4: So you hadn't had an adult beverage. Had you probably have?
- 23:30Speaker 8: I didn't want you to be like have to apologize afterwards,
- 23:34Speaker 8: and yeah.
- 23:37Speaker 9: You know.
- 23:38Speaker 6: Lead, Oh my gosh, did he look like a turn
- 23:40Speaker 6: or what.
- 23:42Speaker 4: I've just seen the video of that, but it looked
- 23:44Speaker 4: pretty ugly. Yeah.
- 23:46Speaker 6: Last year those games, I'm sorry. It was like two
- 23:48Speaker 6: to one loss, three to two loss, yes, five nothing loss.
- 23:51Speaker 8: Yeah, So I don't know where his head was in
- 23:54Speaker 8: that situation. But like our great would say, like, well.
- 23:58Speaker 6: I think he is ers every bit of criticism he's gotten.
- 24:03Speaker 6: I hate the apology, like if you, if you, because
- 24:06Speaker 6: he never mentioned he did not mention Don Staley's name,
- 24:12Speaker 6: and he he had to be refrect I mean they
- 24:15Speaker 6: had to like hold him back, like you're come on, man,
- 24:20Speaker 6: I thought.
- 24:20Speaker 8: He's making a wine order. You know, it's almost say
- 24:22Speaker 8: at all. But once again, this is what about all sports.
- 24:27Speaker 8: When you come with in, when you come within twenty
- 24:30Speaker 8: four hours and you have to issue apology you've been
- 24:32Speaker 8: in sports as a coach. That is so stupid. You
- 24:35Speaker 8: knew you when you were doing wrong. To do that,
- 24:37Speaker 8: don't come out with the apology.
- 24:39Speaker 4: I mean, it's so, it's so, it's so to me,
- 24:41Speaker 4: it was weak too.
- 24:43Speaker 8: It's so fake. Fake.
- 24:44Speaker 6: Gail makes me hate Yukon in everything. I mean I
- 24:48Speaker 6: literally I I pray Michigan pray, but I really hope
- 24:53Speaker 6: Michigan destroys Yukon.
- 24:55Speaker 4: To not think we're going to talk about that, uh
- 24:58Speaker 4: the game coming up, but I get it.
- 25:01Speaker 6: The other thing is you called six no in Nashta games.
- 25:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:04Speaker 4: I want to get to that and we will.

- 29:58Speaker 16: Uh.
- 29:58Speaker 7: You mentioned this staff which is phenomenal and what's I
- 30:02Speaker 7: just saw a little video and I didn't realize this,
- 30:05Speaker 7: but you kind didn't win its first national title since
- 30:08Speaker 7: nineteen ninety nine, so they've won six national titles in
- 30:15Speaker 7: twenty seven years and they never lost the game, and
- 30:17Speaker 7: they've never lost a national championship game.
- 30:20Speaker 6: They're six and oh, Michigan's won six in title games. Yeah,
- 30:25Speaker 6: one and six.
- 30:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I didn't know they've been to that many title games.
- 30:28Speaker 7: But but you know the Fab four went right.
- 30:31Speaker 6: Yep, so, but Fisher's the one that got them won, Cora.
- 30:36Speaker 6: That's it, that's right. Yea, he did a Michigan He
- 30:39Speaker 6: was a Michigan man, right. These two coaches just fascinate me.
- 30:47Speaker 6: They if you and this time of year, as long,
- 30:50Speaker 6: the farther they go, the more that's written, you know,
- 30:53Speaker 6: individually about them.
- 30:54Speaker 7: I'm scrolling this afternoon because I played a little bit
- 30:59Speaker 7: from their press conference.
- 31:00Speaker 4: It says, but I went back and watched a sixty
- 31:02Speaker 4: minutes interview with Dan Hurley a year ago, and I've
- 31:08Speaker 4: read quite a bit about him.
- 31:11Speaker 7: He's He's just a fascinating man. He is not your
- 31:15Speaker 7: usual character. All you see on the sideline is the
- 31:18Speaker 7: ranting and the raving. He doesn't panic, no, well, he
- 31:21Speaker 7: and so always a reflection of the coach, right. Teams
- 31:25Speaker 7: are always a reflection of the coach. So they play
- 31:29Speaker 7: their rears off even when they were down nineteen, you know,
- 31:32Speaker 7: to do yeah, nineteen to Duke.
- 31:34Speaker 6: Well he after the game, the players made a point
- 31:37Speaker 6: of it. It's like coach Hurley was like, look, man,
- 31:40Speaker 6: we're gonna be back in this game. We're not gonna panic,
- 31:42Speaker 6: We're not gonna start shooting three. Yeah, We're gonna pound
- 31:44Speaker 6: it inside.
- 31:45Speaker 4: We're going to play our game.
- 31:46Speaker 8: Yep.
- 31:47Speaker 4: And I'm like, okay, well, sure enough. And that's what
- 31:49Speaker 4: they did, yep.
- 31:50Speaker 8: Right.
- 31:51Speaker 7: Above all, both of these guys are teachers, and the
- 31:54Speaker 7: best coaches are the you know, outside of.
- 31:57Speaker 6: True basketball fans know who Dusty may No, I mean
- 32:01Speaker 6: absolutely not. I'm saying that the vast majority of America
- 32:05Speaker 6: has no orv they've heard Hurley.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Oh sure, if.
- 32:09Speaker 6: You're if you're yeah, if you're a casual sports fan,
- 32:11Speaker 6: you've you've heard that.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Well, he went back to back natties and this is
- 32:14Speaker 4: his third. His brother was pretty good basketball player.
- 32:16Speaker 6: His brother was a very good coach.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Well, a very good basketball player.
- 32:21Speaker 7: His dad apparently had the personality that that Dan does.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 32:25Speaker 7: He was apparently a hard nosed kind of guy, which
- 32:28Speaker 7: is what brought them into that. Uh, but he's a
- 32:33Speaker 7: teacher as well, right, I mean, he he does things
- 32:38Speaker 7: that other people don't know.
- 32:39Speaker 4: Dusty May does things.
- 32:41Speaker 7: And Dusty May had an interesting thing he said, you know,
- 32:44Speaker 7: in the Big Ten, we had a little advantage because
- 32:47Speaker 7: you sometimes you play three games in five or six
- 32:51Speaker 7: days and it's hard to prepare the second half of
- 32:55Speaker 7: the season, Michigan had a harder time with conference opponent's.
- 33:00Speaker 7: Ukat had a very difficult time with conference opponents, Like
- 33:06Speaker 7: he can't beat Saint John's, he can't beat Patino. Saint
- 33:09Speaker 7: John's was three and zero against him this year, right
- 33:12Speaker 7: twice in the conference, once in the tournament, and a
- 33:16Speaker 7: lot of times it's matchup. Also, Patino's pretty good coaches
- 33:20Speaker 7: we've talked about before.
- 33:22Speaker 4: But Dusty is he's like this.
- 33:26Speaker 7: He's read all these books and on teaching and and
- 33:30Speaker 7: talk to teachers and as a mentor who's a.
- 33:33Speaker 4: Teacher, and went to visit and watch them do things.
- 33:37Speaker 4: It's so interesting and it's interesting.
- 33:40Speaker 7: You should bring up Gino because if you'll recall in
- 33:45Speaker 7: was it Maui Yukon went over there in a tie
- 33:50Speaker 7: game and Hurley got a technical foul and it may
- 33:55Speaker 7: have been the first overtime, but he got a technical
- 33:58Speaker 7: foul with a game ted at eight with less than
- 34:01Speaker 7: thirty seconds left. They lost that game and the next
- 34:08Speaker 7: two games that they played. So Gino comes to practice
- 34:13Speaker 7: and starts saying, look, if all, if your only goal
- 34:19Speaker 7: as a coach is to win a national championship every year,
- 34:24Speaker 7: you need to get out of coaching. There are other
- 34:28Speaker 7: things involved in that, right And so he came to practice,
- 34:32Speaker 7: and when Hurley would do things that he thought he
- 34:37Speaker 7: needed to comment on, he'd say, hey, remember this or
- 34:43Speaker 7: remember that that he had talked to was very it
- 34:45Speaker 7: was a very interesting piece about that. But in the
- 34:50Speaker 7: sixty minutes interview. Last year, of course they struggled a
- 34:53Speaker 7: little bit. They didn't win a national championship. They didn't
- 34:55Speaker 7: go to the final four. And the guy ask him,
- 35:00Speaker 7: if you don't win the national championship.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Is this are you a failure this year? This was
- 35:07Speaker 4: a year ago. He said, yeah, he said, I failed.
- 35:10Speaker 4: We don't win the national championship. I've failed. He said.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Don't get me wrong, I won't spend the entire off
- 35:17Speaker 4: season moaning about it, but the answer is yes, I failed.
- 35:24Speaker 4: They have his wife on. She doesn't know anything.
- 35:27Speaker 7: About basketball, and she's already said, don't bring that stuff
- 35:31Speaker 7: home and it's very interesting dynamic. He said, I would
- 35:36Speaker 7: go crazy if if I came home and my wife's going, well,
- 35:41Speaker 7: why didn't Why did you make this substitution?
- 35:43Speaker 4: You know, why did you do that? She doesn't know
- 35:47Speaker 4: and she doesn't care. Did you hear about his lucky beads. Yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 4: he's got lucky beads. Did you hear that? He also
- 35:53Speaker 4: had to get them? I did hear that and got
- 35:56Speaker 4: a police escort.
- 35:57Speaker 6: Yes, police escort.
- 35:59Speaker 4: He it's bags of garlic under certain seats.
- 36:03Speaker 7: He takes the he takes the smoke around, the incense
- 36:10Speaker 7: around the arena before the game. This this he has
- 36:14Speaker 7: a man cave down below, which was very interesting. This
- 36:18Speaker 7: is all from the sixty minutes piece. We have said
- 36:21Speaker 7: repeatedly on this show. And you guys know this. Coaches
- 36:24Speaker 7: aren't normal.
- 36:25Speaker 4: No, they don't live normal lives.
- 36:28Speaker 7: They don't think like we do. They worn't four times
- 36:32Speaker 7: what most of us do. They're just different creatures. They
- 36:36Speaker 7: are different, period. And and this guy is one of
- 36:40Speaker 7: the beds different.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Is he Catholic?
- 36:42Speaker 6: Yes, okay, so the beads rosary is that it? I
- 36:45Speaker 6: think so, because that's sports, guys.
- 36:50Speaker 4: No, he is Catholic. So I'm thinking this has got
- 36:53Speaker 4: to be rosaries. Yes, ye, yes, the Catholic too, Yes,
- 36:57Speaker 4: it is.
- 36:58Speaker 6: It is about the garlic and that that.
- 37:00Speaker 4: That garlic wards off evil, I believe is.
- 37:03Speaker 7: Part of the I don't know own vampires too. Yeah, vampires.
- 37:07Speaker 7: And there are vampires in the college coaching game.
- 37:12Speaker 8: Very well.
- 37:14Speaker 4: And but on the other hand, you have.
- 37:16Speaker 7: This cerebral, cerebral guy at Dusty Bay, right, that's just like.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Teacher, and it's it's just it's fascinating, you know. Have
- 37:26Speaker 4: you looked back at his career. No, it's really First
- 37:30Speaker 4: of all, he's forty nine. He looks thirty five.
- 37:33Speaker 8: He's forty nine.
- 37:34Speaker 6: He spent one year and I have I would love
- 37:36Speaker 6: to talk to Billy about this. He spent one year
- 37:38Speaker 6: on Billy Kennedy's staff. Oh really, yeah, two thousand and
- 37:41Speaker 6: six oh seven.
- 37:42Speaker 4: Did not know that at merse t Wow.
- 37:44Speaker 6: So I would love to hear what Billy said about
- 37:46Speaker 6: it was only one year. Okay, you know that was
- 37:49Speaker 6: Billy's first year. Yeah, and he Billy had a lot
- 37:51Speaker 6: of success there. Yeah, but this did not know that
- 37:54Speaker 6: he was at at murse Tate two thousand and six
- 37:56Speaker 6: O seven, an assistant, and then he went to U
- 37:58Speaker 6: A B and Lois antecha assistant, and then it was
- 38:01Speaker 6: an assistant at Florida. So his first head coaching job
- 38:04Speaker 6: was at Florida FAU. Okay, okay, so this is only
- 38:08Speaker 6: his second coaching job. Head coaching job.
- 38:11Speaker 7: Wow, it's like it's like a signette story and that
- 38:15Speaker 7: you you labor in.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Really interesting when I started looking into it, like.
- 38:20Speaker 4: He was on Kennedy staff. Yeah, that's interesting.
- 38:25Speaker 7: Well, I mean I'm not I'm not going to count
- 38:29Speaker 7: Dan Hurley and Yukon out tonight.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Everything.
- 38:32Speaker 7: Yes, you'd be stupid to count everything, says Michigan, because
- 38:37Speaker 7: they're so good, it's so talented, and they've been untouchable
- 38:41Speaker 7: in the in this tournament, and they made Arizona look
- 38:44Speaker 7: like a high school team.
- 38:46Speaker 4: And I'm going, well, you know, I picked Arizona to win.
- 38:50Speaker 7: I thought they were the best team all year, and
- 38:52Speaker 7: they just made Arizona look terrible, terrible.
- 38:56Speaker 8: It looked like a team it did.
- 38:58Speaker 4: It looked like a team that didn't belong in the
- 39:00Speaker 4: final four.
- 39:00Speaker 7: And I'm going, I thought this team was the best
- 39:02Speaker 7: team in America I've seen.
- 39:04Speaker 8: Is going to play so little, so I was looking
- 39:06Speaker 8: forward to that game Saturday, yes off and I'm watching,
- 39:08Speaker 8: I go like, how does team get here?
- 39:10Speaker 4: Yeah? I go, this is bad games all weekend, exactly
- 39:13Speaker 4: all week I'm hoping for a better game tonight.
- 39:15Speaker 8: I'm picking Michigan because it's the year of the Big Ten.
- 39:18Speaker 8: You look at it is football, it is hilly basketball.
- 39:22Speaker 8: You a baseball probably win the championship.
- 39:24Speaker 7: It's just I saw a headline on social on Twitter today.
- 39:27Speaker 7: I say, say on Twitter, and it was by like
- 39:29Speaker 7: Pat forty or somebody on why the SEC is panicking
- 39:33Speaker 7: because they're because their dynasty is over right, And I'm going,
- 39:40Speaker 7: you know, I don't. I know, the Big Tens having
- 39:43Speaker 7: a good year. Indiana won Michigan's favor to win in basketball.
- 39:48Speaker 7: I get that, but it's like every time one team wins,
- 39:52Speaker 7: it's like it's a dynasty, every time one league wins.
- 39:55Speaker 4: And the SEC had.
- 39:56Speaker 7: An unbelievable run, right, unbelievable run in football.
- 40:02Speaker 4: And I don't And I don't think it's over SEC cashing.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah, I think they're still pretty good.
- 40:10Speaker 7: So I think it's disingenuous to say, well, the Big
- 40:15Speaker 7: Tens dominant the dominant league, right, now I don't really
- 40:19Speaker 7: believe that. See me in four years if that's still
- 40:22Speaker 7: the case. Okay, but this is like a year, year
- 40:26Speaker 7: and a half thing, and I'm thinking, yeah.
- 40:28Speaker 8: Good teams playing, You gotta good teams lose.
- 40:30Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. So first lined up for we'll take a break.
- 40:35Speaker 7: The Rangers Report is presented by Shulty Roofing and the

- 40:44Speaker 15: then I found Shulty Roofing and point I'm glad I did.

- 43:30Speaker 4: So I'm sorry, no, go ahead. I had a trivia
- 43:32Speaker 4: question for both of you all.
- 43:33Speaker 6: Right, So, in honor of tonight's NCAA Tournament National Championship game,
- 43:40Speaker 6: do you recoach.
- 43:40Speaker 4: By the way coming up at six o'clock here on
- 43:42Speaker 4: the zone.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Do you you guys recall the very first one shining moment?
- 43:47Speaker 4: What year was, Oh, it's a long time ago. I
- 43:50Speaker 4: did see this. I think it was in the eighties,
- 43:54Speaker 4: or it was in the eighties, like early eighties. Nope,
- 43:57Speaker 4: it was late eighties, light daighties.
- 43:59Speaker 6: Okay, I just remember because it was my senior year
- 44:02Speaker 6: in high school.
- 44:03Speaker 7: It made me feel yeah, exactly exactly.
- 44:07Speaker 6: It was after Keith Smart hit the shot to Indiana
- 44:14Speaker 6: to beat Syracuse last one. Yeah, it was nineteen eighty seven. Okay,
- 44:18Speaker 6: I watched it today.
- 44:19Speaker 4: I pulled it up. That that one shotting moment.
- 44:22Speaker 7: Yeah, so I don't know if you're watching Saturday, but
- 44:26Speaker 7: did you see the ball almost stop on at the
- 44:30Speaker 7: back of the at the back of the goal, I
- 44:33Speaker 7: mean it stopped.
- 44:34Speaker 4: I've never seen that before.
- 44:37Speaker 7: It did finally roll off, but it was stopped at
- 44:40Speaker 7: the back of the rib. I'm going that's one shotting moment.
- 44:44Speaker 7: You got to put that shot in.
- 44:45Speaker 8: I think it's something about the rims a deal because
- 44:47Speaker 8: the women's one of the women's games, I watched the
- 44:49Speaker 8: ball almost stuck back. It was a three. It almost
- 44:52Speaker 8: stuck back. Now I've seen it stick hit the front
- 44:55Speaker 8: and went in and I think it's the ms is shue.
- 44:57Speaker 7: Okay, this, this wasn't a wed This was a ball
- 45:01Speaker 7: that bounced at where where it's connected to the back
- 45:06Speaker 7: back piece, back piece of metal that you that's I've
- 45:11Speaker 7: never even.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Seen it close to that before.
- 45:14Speaker 7: I just thought it was going to be a jump
- 45:16Speaker 7: ball because it was so close to just staying there.
- 45:21Speaker 6: I've actually seen it stay there in like a high school.
- 45:23Speaker 8: Okay, I'm not sure I've ever seen seen it before.
- 45:28Speaker 4: I'm not sure.
- 45:28Speaker 6: I'm never a TV game, not that I recall.
- 45:31Speaker 4: I mean, wedgies happened all the time, but but this wasn't.
- 45:34Speaker 6: I think I was covered a high school game down
- 45:36Speaker 6: in Texas City when that happened.
- 45:38Speaker 4: I don't know why I remember that, but it was
- 45:41Speaker 4: Lamark in Texas City. That's a big game.
- 45:44Speaker 6: It was a big rivalry, and they had they had
- 45:47Speaker 6: like they had a call like a time out, briefly
- 45:51Speaker 6: not time out, but the officials, like, I say, okay.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Well what happened? Jump ball?
- 45:54Speaker 7: Yeah, it's got to be a jump ball, right, the
- 45:56Speaker 7: leggies a jump all right?
- 45:58Speaker 8: When you mentioned that, smart, I remember that's working death
- 46:01Speaker 8: on that and the headline was, I put night got
- 46:04Speaker 8: smart national title than national title.
- 46:08Speaker 6: They had that one shoining moment they had, you know,
- 46:11Speaker 6: Bobby like knocking on the on the table, not right,
- 46:15Speaker 6: the phone like a phone like yellow phone, like knocking
- 46:20Speaker 6: the phone off there.
- 46:21Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I liked it. Never liked him, yeah,
- 46:24Speaker 4: never liked him. No, I never liked him. You know
- 46:26Speaker 4: he did curse me out once.
- 46:28Speaker 6: Yeah, that's my shot moment.
- 46:31Speaker 7: Look, that's a that's a large club. I got to say,
- 46:34Speaker 7: that is a very large club. It was entertaining though.
- 46:37Speaker 7: I mean to watch him to do his stuff. He
- 46:40Speaker 7: was hard to take your eyes off of. And and
- 46:42Speaker 7: he was he was close to genius level.
- 46:45Speaker 6: As the funny thing about if you go back and
- 46:49Speaker 6: you watch that video, the video is so grainy.
- 46:53Speaker 4: Yeah like film. That's such a tape.
- 46:57Speaker 6: Yeah, we didn't realize exactly like one before HD.
- 47:03Speaker 8: I wonder we're I'm wearing glasses, yes.
- 47:05Speaker 7: Exactly, So, so I want to bring this up. Apparently
- 47:08Speaker 7: Dusty May went to Michigan Stadium and put up a
- 47:11Speaker 7: goal to try and replicate the shooting background of the dome.
- 47:17Speaker 7: Though okay, that's how detailed. That's how detailed these guys are.
- 47:22Speaker 7: So I'm telling my family Saturday night while we're watching
- 47:25Speaker 7: the game, my old man story. The first ever Final
- 47:30Speaker 7: Four and a dome, remember it because the UCLA Okay,
- 47:40Speaker 7: I was, I was there. Good for you because well
- 47:43Speaker 7: in those days it wasn't. First of all, it was
- 47:46Speaker 7: in a dome, so there were fifty thousand seats. College
- 47:50Speaker 7: basketball wasn't what it is now. But the reason they
- 47:53Speaker 7: gave that game to Houston was because of the UCLA
- 47:57Speaker 7: Houston game, right without Cinder versus Elvin Hayes. That that
- 48:03Speaker 7: started really the college bass. And we have that game
- 48:08Speaker 7: to blame for these games being in a domed football
- 48:12Speaker 7: stadium where they don't belong because I'm watching all these
- 48:17Speaker 7: people shoot and they didn't get to the Final four
- 48:20Speaker 7: by being twenty percent shooters and nobody can hit a
- 48:25Speaker 7: freaking shot.
- 48:26Speaker 6: But back then, now they've changed the allignment of these
- 48:30Speaker 6: arenas a lot.
- 48:31Speaker 7: You know, the man, there was no elevated No, it
- 48:35Speaker 7: was just in the middle of the astrodomeh in the
- 48:38Speaker 7: fight and the Final four they did, oh it did, yes,
- 48:40Speaker 7: because my seats and I had asked for these. That
- 48:44Speaker 7: was my Christmas present from my family. They had sent
- 48:47Speaker 7: away gotten seats. They were so far away. And I
- 48:51Speaker 7: saw a social media post with a guy going, I
- 48:54Speaker 7: have dreamed all my life of going to a Final four.
- 48:59Speaker 7: Now I'm here and I can't see anything. He was
- 49:04Speaker 7: way at the top of the stadium at Indianapolis, right,
- 49:07Speaker 7: and he had a cell phone picture, and he may
- 49:10Speaker 7: as he may as well been in another county.
- 49:12Speaker 6: But I understand that the text A and M is
- 49:17Speaker 6: ever I get it.
- 49:18Speaker 4: I went, I went. You know, I'll still pay whatever
- 49:23Speaker 4: it takes.
- 49:24Speaker 7: The beauty of my Final four experience in Houston is
- 49:28Speaker 7: being high school kids. We were seniors in high school,
- 49:31Speaker 7: went with friends. We went down and got and you
- 49:37Speaker 7: could never do this today with security. But this was
- 49:40Speaker 7: nineteen seventy one. Okay, nineteen seventy one. Okay, I'm that's
- 49:45Speaker 7: I know. Rusty's clicking in his head. Rusty, I turned seventy.
- 49:48Speaker 7: I turned seventy three this week.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Shut up.
- 49:53Speaker 17: So so.
- 49:55Speaker 4: We got down and sat in the UCLA student section
- 49:58Speaker 4: on That's when the stud used to get good seats, right,
- 50:01Speaker 4: So this.
- 50:02Speaker 7: Was a long time, long time ago before they figured
- 50:04Speaker 7: out they could charge four thousand dollars to sit at
- 50:07Speaker 7: court side, and so we went down and we thought
- 50:11Speaker 7: we were the coolest kids going because we sat in
- 50:13Speaker 7: the middle of the UCLA student section on the court
- 50:17Speaker 7: the right court side seats and watched and watched basketball.
- 50:21Speaker 7: But it's but it's the fault of Elvin Hayes and
- 50:24Speaker 7: lou Al Cinder that all these games now are in
- 50:27Speaker 7: the Dome stadium.
- 50:28Speaker 8: Money.
- 50:28Speaker 7: Yeah, they figured out instead of fifteen to twenty thousand seats,
- 50:32Speaker 7: we can sell sixty thousand seats and just sick of
- 50:34Speaker 7: the beers, we can say, oh my gosh, you're talking
- 50:37Speaker 7: about millions, millions, and you know, the NCAA needs some
- 50:41Speaker 7: money for all the lawsuits.
- 50:44Speaker 4: But that's that's a new I mean, that's a huge deal.
- 50:48Speaker 6: Well and you know what though, I mean, there's it's
- 50:50Speaker 6: gonna be a sellout tonight, I'm sure, yeah. I mean
- 50:54Speaker 6: it's in Indianapolis.
- 50:56Speaker 4: I mean, and I know those fans are gonna be there.
- 50:58Speaker 4: Oh yeah, it's basketball County. Yeah, I mean maybe, but
- 51:02Speaker 4: but look, both those.
- 51:04Speaker 7: Fan bases travel anyway, right, I mean, they're they're rabbid
- 51:08Speaker 7: and Michigan was part of the final four. When I
- 51:11Speaker 7: went to the Alamodome a few years ago the final
- 51:14Speaker 7: four was there, and uh man, I'm telling you, I mean,
- 51:20Speaker 7: that's a long way from ann Arbor, I think. And
- 51:23Speaker 7: then I went to the National Championship game. When was
- 51:30Speaker 7: it when Michigan won two years ago? Was it two
- 51:34Speaker 7: three years ago?
- 51:34Speaker 4: Whenever it was down in Houston at Michigan one, I
- 51:38Speaker 4: went and at Michigan it was Michigan versus Washington. Michigan
- 51:43Speaker 4: only won that one. Yeah this year, No, no, no,
- 51:47Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I'm talking football. Oh okay, I'm just talking
- 51:50Speaker 4: about the fan base.
- 51:51Speaker 7: Right when Harball won the title down in Houston, it
- 51:55Speaker 7: was like eighty well I have it was like eighty
- 51:58Speaker 7: percent Michigan fans.
- 52:00Speaker 4: They travel, that's the bottom line. So yeah, it'll be full.
- 52:04Speaker 8: Enough for the guys that paid Harbors salary illegally, it
- 52:07Speaker 8: doesn't matter.
- 52:08Speaker 4: They were there and they travel their rabbit. But they
- 52:12Speaker 4: were in San Antonio for that final four and I
- 52:15Speaker 4: and I've also been to Houston for that final four.
- 52:18Speaker 7: And I didn't have the best of seats in either place.
- 52:21Speaker 7: But I wasn't in the upper deck either, Okay. I
- 52:25Speaker 7: was in like the mid range in both places. And
- 52:29Speaker 7: there's so many large screens. Now it's not like quite
- 52:33Speaker 7: like Jerry World. But if you just see you mentioned,
- 52:36Speaker 7: if you just want to be part of the experience
- 52:39Speaker 7: of going to a Final four, look, you can tape
- 52:43Speaker 7: the game on TV and watch it when you get home,
- 52:46Speaker 7: but those screens are large enough for you to be
- 52:48Speaker 7: able to.
- 52:48Speaker 4: Get an idea of what's promise you you're going to
- 52:52Speaker 4: take the game. I'm going to the game.
- 52:54Speaker 6: I will record it for all times sake. I will
- 52:59Speaker 6: if they got bit, if they ever win it. It's
- 53:01Speaker 6: gonna cost me more than that.
- 53:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Okay, you know I have a swag.
- 53:06Speaker 6: You've got every you know, I've got every little piece
- 53:08Speaker 6: of momo. I do as I said with twenty twenty
- 53:11Speaker 6: three car I don't.
- 53:12Speaker 4: Have one of those.
- 53:13Speaker 7: So I'm I'm very impressed. So in two thousand and seven,
- 53:16Speaker 7: you know what I got per Open to Day. You
- 53:18Speaker 7: know what they gave the media Friday? No, I got
- 53:21Speaker 7: a magnetic Rangers schedule refrigerator.
- 53:25Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, Well back in two thousand and seven when
- 53:28Speaker 6: A and M played in Sweet sixteen, yep, so they
- 53:32Speaker 6: played in San Antonio, in Santoio, and so Homer and
- 53:37Speaker 6: I get to the arena walk into the arena and
- 53:42Speaker 6: play in Memphis here and we're walking down there and
- 53:45Speaker 6: we're looking.
- 53:45Speaker 4: For our seat. Well, UTSA was hosting that.
- 53:50Speaker 6: So one of the guys, the sports information director or
- 53:54Speaker 6: sports information assistance at UTSA, used to be at A
- 53:58Speaker 6: and M He set us up right on mid court
- 54:02Speaker 6: on the row now mid court, second row, and I
- 54:07Speaker 6: was like, holy cow, okay, So I covered back when
- 54:11Speaker 6: I was covering the NBA, I went to the All
- 54:14Speaker 6: Star Game at the Alamo Dome.
- 54:16Speaker 7: NBA All Star Game at the Alamo Dome, Well, you
- 54:21Speaker 7: know they have other seats besides just those floor seats.
- 54:26Speaker 7: Because there's a lot of people covering the All Star Game.
- 54:29Speaker 7: And I'd covered it before I'd covered Houston and sat
- 54:31Speaker 7: on the floor. They put me in an auxiliary seating
- 54:35Speaker 7: right at the curtain. In those days, they didn't use
- 54:38Speaker 7: the whole stadium, you know, they putting it off. And
- 54:41Speaker 7: I couldn't have been farther away from the court is
- 54:45Speaker 7: if I just stayed here in Edmund Bryan College station.
- 54:49Speaker 7: So like the high school chip who got into the
- 54:54Speaker 7: UCLA seats, I go down, I sit behind a goal
- 54:59Speaker 7: and I'm sitting next to George freaking Girvan the ice
- 55:04Speaker 7: way and I'm gone.
- 55:06Speaker 4: And I acknowledged him. I didn't want to bother him,
- 55:10Speaker 4: but I'm just like, Okay, it was worth. It was
- 55:14Speaker 4: worth coming to sit next to the iceman. Yeah, that's good.
- 55:18Speaker 4: He was one of my all time and still is
- 55:23Speaker 4: one of my all time favorites.
- 55:24Speaker 6: As Texas Sports Hall of Fame Induction one, I can't
- 55:28Speaker 6: remember why I was there, but I happened to be
- 55:30Speaker 6: sitting at seated at a table, and as the table
- 55:34Speaker 6: fools up and by myself right and I see the
- 55:38Speaker 6: name right next to me.
- 55:39Speaker 4: It's Bob Lily, mister coo. That is awesome.
- 55:45Speaker 8: Not happy that a great spring football game is the
- 55:48Speaker 8: same day as Texas Sports Hall of Fame isn't really
- 55:51Speaker 8: going in, so I'm not going to be able to
- 55:52Speaker 8: go up to the deal. So I wasn't too happy.
- 55:54Speaker 4: About me to take your place. I could send a
- 55:59Speaker 4: story back, Were you okay.
- 56:01Speaker 8: Kyle Stevens?
