- 0:00Eric: This podcast was created by fans or fans and is not affiliated with or sponsored by Hallmark or the Hallmark channel.
- 0:12Eric: This is Eric.
- 0:17Sydney: This is Sydney.
- 0:19Eric: And this is Hallmark, and the Scrooge and more.
- 0:22Eric: Hello Sydney.
- 0:27Sydney: Hey, eric Eric.
- 0:30Eric: Or should I say Cheerio.
- 0:32Sydney: Oh yeah, cheerio, old Chap, I mean, you're not old, that's fine, old Chap.
- 0:40Eric: I think you sort of say that regardless of the age.
- 0:44Eric: You could say that Old Chap to someone younger, older, yeah, everything.
- 0:48Eric: So people are probably thinking we're a little crazy, but we'll get around to talking about that, so speaking of talking.
- 0:59Sydney: Yeah, speaking of talking.
- 1:02Eric: So here's a crazy thing that's going on.
- 1:03Eric: We have a dog that's 13 years old and it's a total mama's boy dog Like always snuggles up against my wife, sleeps in the bed, just always right next to her Since 4th of July Remember we were talking like the fireworks and all that.
- 1:20Eric: So ever since 4th of July he won't sleep in our room anymore.
- 1:24Eric: He'll like take a look at it and just turn around and walk away and you'll go sleep, like in the empty guest room or right now my son's waiting to start school again, so he's here for like a month and he'll go sleep with him, but he won't sleep in our room.
- 1:43Eric: So we're convinced that our family is going to be able to sleep in our room.
- 1:48Eric: So we're convinced that our bedrooms haunted oh dun dun dun.
- 1:58Sydney: This is truly a mystery, eric.
- 2:01Eric: All right.
- 2:01Eric: So here's a little.
- 2:02Eric: This is a little grim, but we did find out after we moved in here from our neighbor that the previous owner had committed suicide in our house.
- 2:15Eric: No, oh my gosh, there's like an older person who had a lot of health problems.
- 2:24Sydney: And they don't have to disclose that to you when you got the house.
- 2:29Eric: No.
- 2:30Sydney: I thought they had to.
- 2:32Eric: Well, they weren't the one we bought it from, so maybe so we bought the home from somebody from like a realtor who had it for like two years, or something like that, as a rental, and then they sold to us back in 2000.
- 2:46Eric: Back in 2009.
- 2:48Eric: So maybe they had a disclose to them.
- 2:51Sydney: Maybe yeah.
- 2:53Eric: But I don't know.
- 2:55Sydney: Oh my gosh.
- 2:57Eric: Now, why the while?
- 2:57Eric: All of a sudden, the ghost would be like appearing now to our, to our dog?
- 3:04Eric: I don't know, but you are buying a new home, so you will not have to worry about there being like a ghost that resides in your house.
- 3:16Sydney: I know, unless I don't know about the land that's being built on top of.
- 3:23Eric: That's true.
- 3:23Eric: It could be like some ancient burial ground and there you are with the as you're building the house, disrupting it all, so you'll have all sorts of spirits.
- 3:33Sydney: I tell you, they, they.
- 3:34Sydney: I have heard stories, not in California, but we had a family friend who recently bought a new build in Tennessee and she was out.
- 3:45Sydney: She took her dog for a walk and the dog stopped at the end of this street and she was like come on, you know, it's a really well behaved dog, come on, come on, let's keep going.
- 3:59Sydney: And the dog would not lunch.
- 4:00Sydney: And she was like, okay, well, that's weird.
- 4:02Sydney: And then they just turned around and walk the other way and after a while she ended up asking the neighbor.
- 4:11Sydney: She said my dog just acts so weird, like what's the deal?
- 4:17Sydney: Is there some sort of like pesticide or something?
- 4:21Sydney: She's like oh well, that's where the Indian burial ground starts.
- 4:24Sydney: And she's like what?
- 4:29Sydney: And she said oh yeah, didn't the, didn't the company tell you that there's an Indian burial ground over there?
- 4:35Sydney: They didn't build on it.
- 4:37Sydney: But it's at the edge of the community.
- 4:43Eric: All right.
- 4:43Eric: So now you just pretty much confirmed that our house is haunted.
- 4:47Sydney: I mean I think so right that's weird.
- 4:52Eric: So the 4th of July must have like completely, the ghost was in its sleeping state or whatever, and then the 4th of July this year woke it up, and so now it's awakened.
- 5:08Eric: It hasn't done anything to harm for anything like that, other than keep our dog out of the room.
- 5:16Sydney: Wait, is this the elderly dog?
- 5:18Sydney: Yeah, well, maybe you can see it because.
- 5:22Eric: Right, that's what I'm saying.
- 5:22Eric: It's not that he's old and he's dogs are just intuitive, as you just said.
- 5:27Eric: And now he's, you know, getting up there in those dog years he's got that extra sense.
- 5:32Eric: So I don't know, you just can't.
- 5:34Eric: And he just came in the room because he doesn't want to go to bed.
- 5:39Sydney: He's not going to blame you.
- 5:41Sydney: He's not going to be podcasting with me.
- 5:43Sydney: He knew we were talking about him.
- 5:48Eric: He did.
- 5:49Sydney: The ghost told him.
- 5:52Eric: All right, all right.
- 5:54Eric: So something else going on in the world right now is the strike with the actors, with the SAG, as well as the writers.
- 6:06Eric: The writers have been on strike for a little while.
- 6:08Eric: We talked to John Christian Plummer about it.
- 6:10Eric: He sends us some information.
- 6:12Eric: Little updates really helped us understand a little bit about what's going on.
- 6:17Eric: And then with the writers and seeing a lot of their posts, it's really obviously disrupting our viewing, but kind of a bigger issue of all the things going on and it's.
- 6:32Eric: It's funny when you see some of these posts where it's like, oh, we can't afford them and then they show you know, like Igers, 150 foot yacht or something like that.
- 6:44Sydney: Oh my gosh, don't get me started on that guy.
- 6:47Eric: Yeah, or you know, just just in general, and I did a little rant on my Instagram about AI and how studios are trying to use it to eliminate jobs and I just think that's terrible.
- 7:02Eric: So I think I don't know.
- 7:06Eric: Obviously, we're very big supporters of the actors.
- 7:10Eric: They've been super kind to us.
- 7:11Eric: Now, most of the ones we talked to are Canadian and they're not on strike technically, so they could do things, but I think a lot of them are showing solidarity to the Americans and so we probably will not be having some interviews for a while.
- 7:30Sydney: We were new mysteries, yeah.
- 7:33Eric: Right and we missed.
- 7:34Eric: We have those couple.
- 7:35Eric: That are done, but the what is it a curious cater and Hannah Swenson.
- 7:41Eric: But yeah, I don't get any other new ones.
- 7:43Eric: Mystery Island, probably, a little ways off the Bala ha one Probably won't be happening for a while and it's a shame because they were cruising seven, seven in the first half of the year.
- 8:00Sydney: Yeah, they were doing great.
- 8:01Sydney: And also it's such a bummer because out here in California that's such a huge part of the economy.
- 8:10Eric: Yeah, it's, and it's funny because it's like I shouldn't say it's funny, it's not funny, but that you know.
- 8:16Eric: You think, okay, the actors are being affected, but then it's also all of the other people you know, the, the, the consumers who we've talked to, the set designers, the makeup people, the hair people, just the background actors, every it's just very, very far reaching, and especially the economy where you are.
- 8:41Eric: It's very direct, it's a little more indirect but, and here's the thing, I also got my little notice from Paramount today that my paramount subscriptions going up a dollar a month.
- 8:58Sydney: The pastness, this along.
- 9:01Eric: Well see, that's the thing that gets me to.
- 9:02Eric: Is that, whatever they decide, so they could settle today, right?
- 9:06Eric: And they say, oh no, we whatever, if it was really about money, and then just raise everybody's subscription by a dollar and it would you know pay for all of these.
- 9:18Eric: You know incremental costs.
- 9:19Eric: That's how you know it's not really about money, because it always ends up screwing the consumer whenever they do anything.
- 9:27Eric: So if they really want to settle, they could.
- 9:30Eric: It's about the, like I said, the power of things, of owning rights and the stream and all of that.
- 9:41Sydney: Well, it makes sense and the AI stuff is worrisome.
- 9:44Sydney: So it is I want to mess with that.
- 9:50Eric: But what that is is, I say because probably not going to have a lot of mysteries.
- 9:55Eric: One of the things we can say is we do have a lot of content.
- 9:59Eric: Still, we have a lot of they already made mysteries.
- 10:03Eric: We have just some other fun ideas and today we're going to go Actually, it's kind of like a little flashback for you because you were just there, but today we are going to be talking about our acorn subscription, which is essentially mostly British, but then some other Canadian and Australian.
- 10:30Eric: I don't know if it's all like British Commonwealth type countries.
- 10:35Eric: You're far more experienced because you got me in on it.
- 10:39Eric: I've only been watching for a couple months now, but I think they all are.
- 10:47Sydney: What are you?
- 10:48Eric: Yeah, they're all essentially yeah, that they're all essentially the United Kingdom ish mysteries of some sort, but today we're going to talk about that.
- 10:59Eric: So we're not going to talk about Hallmark.
- 11:00Eric: We're going to share some of the British or international mysteries that may be fun to come over to Hallmark in an adaptation or just, you know, if you're wanting to get your sleuth on and there's not new Hallmark ones coming out, you know, subscribe to Acorn or Brit box and get a whole bunch of new ones.
- 11:27Sydney: And I will say like, if you're looking for it has that cozy mystery element in the fact, like you're not seeing, like graphic bodies or anything like that.
- 11:40Eric: Well, there are some.
- 11:41Eric: Well, I watched a couple.
- 11:44Eric: Happy Valley is pretty, pretty intense.
- 11:51Sydney: I was talking.
- 11:53Sydney: Well, I wasn't getting into those ones.
- 11:56Sydney: They, those can be a little moody.
- 11:58Eric: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:00Sydney: I was.
- 12:00Sydney: I was thinking of the other ones we're going to talk about.
- 12:04Eric: Yeah, there's definitely like the cozy, like you said, the cozy, but if you want some more intense ones, they definitely have them, but they also have some very fun cozy.
- 12:14Eric: The other thing I will say, and I'll talk about a little bit later, is again our friend John Christian Plummer.
- 12:23Eric: He's a very big fan of the British mysteries and as far as the impact it just has on the whole genre really seems to you know, stem back to there and as I've been watching some of these, that you really do see where you know it, just that you know the heart to hearts or the Columbus or you know just the things that you're outside of, even just hallmark, how there is that very big influence of that British mystery, how they've really honed it and all that sort of good stuff.
- 12:57Eric: So yeah.
- 12:59Eric: But what?
- 13:00Eric: What would we?
- 13:00Eric: What would be a good drink?
- 13:02Eric: Because we always have to have a cocktail.
- 13:04Eric: Be a cocktail when you watch these British movies.
- 13:08Sydney: You know, I think probably the classic gin and tonic made with Hendricks they love Hendricks over there and a couple of slices of cucumber in it.
- 13:22Sydney: They love doing that.
- 13:23Sydney: I don't know what it is about the cucumber, but they love putting a couple slices of cucumber in their gin and tonic.
- 13:30Eric: Now is that where you were drinking when you were over there on the honeymoon?
- 13:33Sydney: No, when I was over there, I was enjoying one of their favorite summertime treats, which is an aphrodol spritz.
- 13:43Eric: Oh, actually I could just right here in my studio, here my studio.
- 13:49Eric: I sound so fancy.
- 13:51Sydney: You are fancy.
- 13:53Eric: We turned my daughter.
- 13:54Eric: When my daughter was officially moved out, we turned her bedroom into an office slash bar.
- 14:01Eric: So I have a nice full bar over here and I could just step over there and make one of those.
- 14:08Sydney: That's nice.
- 14:09Sydney: They're very refreshing for a summer's day.
- 14:12Sydney: Or you can just go to the local pub and grab a pint.
- 14:17Eric: And how do you make what's in that?
- 14:19Eric: What's in that?
- 14:20Eric: Is it just?
- 14:21Sydney: a pint.
- 14:23Eric: No, I know a pint, the aparot spritz.
- 14:26Eric: Is it just aparot and like club soda or something?
- 14:29Sydney: No, it's got actually like some prosecco in it and the aparot, and then I think it has something else.
- 14:39Eric: So it gets the fizz, though from prosecco.
- 14:42Sydney: Yeah, and then they always put orange slices in it, so it might be like a hint of like triple sec or something sweet like that.
- 14:52Eric: All right, that sounds very refreshing.
- 14:54Eric: All right so whatever you want to do, get your little British drink on.
- 15:00Eric: Yeah, it could be the pint, it could be the aparot spritz, it could be a gin and tonic, or is it like?
- 15:07Sydney: right now, or was Wimbledon, so they did like the Pims Cup.
- 15:13Sydney: I don't know what's in that, but that's like one of the famous drinks from that.
- 15:17Eric: I thought that's what they drank at the Belmont or one of the horse races, so they did the Manjula bet.
- 15:27Eric: The Kentucky Derby and Pims Cup was at another one, so they drank that at Wimbledon too, oh maybe I'm wrong.
- 15:34Sydney: No, I'm sure they probably stole it from there.
- 15:37Eric: It's probably like a British.
- 15:38Eric: I mean, horse racing is British, so they probably just kept that tradition over.
- 15:45Sydney: Maybe I don't know.
- 15:48Eric: I don't know he can drink.
- 15:49Eric: He can drink whatever you want to drink.
- 15:50Sydney: Yeah.
- 15:51Eric: Make a daiquiri and enjoy your little British British cozy mystery.
- 15:56Eric: Have some tea yeah have some little tea, all right.
- 16:01Eric: Well, when we get started with you sharing what's one of your recommended to somebody who may not be that aware of what's going on over there in our acorn.
- 16:15Sydney: Well, I think the British mystery that started it all for me that I incorporated into my honeymoon is definitely mid-summer murders.
- 16:27Sydney: It started, I think they started.
- 16:31Sydney: They had their first episode in like 1997 or something like that.
- 16:36Sydney: Yeah, it's definitely all, and that show, yes, is still running.
- 16:41Sydney: It still has a new season.
- 16:43Sydney: I think that's coming out soon, but it's like in season 23 or 24, something crazy like that.
- 16:53Sydney: But it's so interesting and I think what grabbed me is, keep in mind, when I discovered it I was folding sweaters and it was like Christmas time and I had PBS on and I was just like watching whatever.
- 17:09Sydney: And this show came on and I was like okay and I started watching it and I was really invested in the mystery and but the juxtaposition against the British countryside that is just so beautiful and also the like dynamic between Tom Barnaby, who's the chief constable I don't know what you call them the man.
- 17:40Eric: The CD something.
- 17:41Sydney: Yes, he's like their version of a detective a senior detective and his family, and then also his right hand man who's like his partner.
- 17:56Sydney: He's really great too, and you will be so surprised by the sheer amount of familiar faces you see in some of these episodes, like Orlando Bloom, henry Caval or Cavill I don't know how you say that but also like if you know, british actors.
- 18:16Sydney: They're all in one of these episodes.
- 18:19Sydney: It's so, is it the same?
- 18:22Eric: It's the same.
- 18:23Eric: Two guys who started are still the same, detectives or CDIs, no.
- 18:29Sydney: So Tom Barnaby, which is played by like the coolest guy, his name is John Nuttles and he retired.
- 18:39Sydney: I want to say like probably all I don't know the exact date, but I want to say maybe almost 10 years ago, okay, and like.
- 18:50Sydney: So I think he was in it for like a good 12 years or something like that, and he retired and another guy took over and I can't.
- 19:03Sydney: I can't remember his name because, keep in mind, I also started watching this during the pandemic, so it took us, my husband and I, through the entire pandemic because there's so many seasons.
- 19:18Eric: So you've seen them all.
- 19:20Sydney: I've seen them all.
- 19:21Sydney: I'm like all the way caught up and when we got to the season where Tom kind of retires and his, his cousin takes over, john Barnaby- Okay.
- 19:38Sydney: Neil.
- 19:40Sydney: Neil Doug and yes and he takes over, and he's still the one that is the Barnaby right now.
- 19:53Sydney: So his name is John Barnaby.
- 19:57Sydney: So there's now like a new Barnaby.
- 19:59Sydney: Okay, okay, and then it was hard to get used to, because I didn't want, I didn't want John to leave.
- 20:09Sydney: I was like no, John Nettles, please stay.
- 20:14Eric: What about now?
- 20:14Eric: Is it Gavin, the guy who is the sidekick, Remember?
- 20:18Eric: So you got me watching them and I watched, I think, the first three.
- 20:24Eric: I did not realize they were like full fledged movies either.
- 20:27Sydney: Yeah, they are like that.
- 20:29Eric: Yeah, they're like two hours, so it's not.
- 20:31Eric: It's not one that you're going to just throw on as a 50 minute, which a lot of the mysteries are.
- 20:39Eric: This is the full fledged movie, yes, but is it?
- 20:44Eric: Is Galvan right or Gavin Troy?
- 20:47Sydney: Yeah, Gavin Troy, and he is.
- 20:50Sydney: I really like Gavin Troy, but he, I think, leaves after maybe three seasons and yeah and then there's a new partner and then he's there for a bit and then there's another new partner named Ben Jones, so and he's really great.
- 21:09Sydney: So it kind of like you get, I would say you skip over the guy in the middle but like Gavin and Ben are like the best, and then also the the corner, or the medical examiner.
- 21:22Sydney: That guy is great too.
- 21:23Sydney: I don't remember his name, but he's an older guy and he actually he stopped being in the show because he like passed away.
- 21:33Eric: So he may be living in my bedroom now, haunting it.
- 21:36Sydney: I mean maybe oh that's my dog, charlie.
- 21:41Eric: Is he in there?
- 21:41Eric: No, he did not answer, so I'll say yes.
- 21:46Eric: You have told me how great it is, so I watched it and I sent you the text.
- 21:53Eric: I'm like Troy, which Gavin, whatever Troy like he's such a jerk, whatever he's got to go right.
- 22:00Eric: And you're like no, give it time.
- 22:01Eric: And I will say, by the end of the first episode I realized that he's absolutely hilarious with his.
- 22:07Eric: I don't know if it's the bluntness to him, but it's just.
- 22:13Eric: He cracked me up.
- 22:14Eric: And then the second one, I liked him and yeah, so I totally.
- 22:17Eric: At the first, though I guess I was just thinking it was just a jerk and then I realized he was just very funny.
- 22:23Sydney: Yeah, and the way that, like Tom Barnaby kind of plays off of him where he's like really Troy like, makes fun of his driving and definitely keeps him in his place.
- 22:38Sydney: Yeah, or.
- 22:39Sydney: And then, like I love the way Tom interacts with his wife Joyce, and like her cooking is atrocious, so he's always like not upset when she burns something he's like oh no, we'll have to eat out.
- 22:55Eric: Yeah, and I do find the interesting the family dynamic that you're talking about, which, like I say, I'm only three episodes inside.
- 23:03Eric: I have not watched 23 seasons like you have.
- 23:06Eric: But I do find it funny how they're just sort of over the kitchen table or doing some laundry, folding or whatever, and are just talking about the case and I guess maybe that is what it's like being married to a DCI.
- 23:20Sydney: I don't know, but yeah, I do find it funny how they just have that family dynamic in it.
- 23:25Sydney: And they do that thing that so many mysteries do.
- 23:30Sydney: And I feel like that even happens in Hallmark Mysteries when it's towards the end and she's saying something to him or and he goes, what did you just say?
- 23:38Sydney: And then he's like, oh, I got to go.
- 23:41Sydney: I think it's basically like he's figured it out, but it just happens.
- 23:46Sydney: All of a sudden it clicks.
- 23:49Eric: The thing I really like and this will go into all of the ones that I'm going to talk about is the characters.
- 23:59Eric: You've got the leads, but all the secondary characters are just so quirky and at least, like I say, I've seen three of them, but they're just really like just weird type people and maybe that's, maybe that's the, you know, the, the English countryside, or something like that.
- 24:21Eric: But, like I say, when I'm talking about the, the ones that I liked, they also have very, you know, very eclectic e Interesting secondary characters.
- 24:31Eric: You don't really get that in the hallmark, the hallmark.
- 24:33Eric: You may have one who's a little bit eccentric, but for the most part they're just sort of normal.
- 24:42Eric: Yeah people and stuff, and you definitely have some interesting characters.
- 24:47Sydney: Yes, and I Like it was so neat seeing all of the different places where they filmed, because each episode is just the architecture, the churches, it's just so Beautiful.
- 25:09Eric: Is it like the Relack of a better way to put it, I guess kind of the suburbs of London, or is it really kind of more?
- 25:20Sydney: So it's.
- 25:21Sydney: I'd say it's like an hour and a half north of London, in Buckinghamshire, which is like it's.
- 25:34Sydney: It's in this countryside area near like the Chiltern Hills, and is midsummer a real place.
- 25:44Sydney: No okay so they've mostly filmed in this area and then they filmed and like I think it's like Henley on the Thames or something like that.
- 25:55Sydney: But yeah, they just kind of these little pockets.
- 25:59Sydney: It's we're just made up basically and and you can definitely see how they made it up I mean Looks like a little beautiful town.
- 26:10Sydney: It's just a bunch of little beautiful towns.
- 26:15Eric: Okay, so here's the here's.
- 26:16Eric: The big question is the first one or the second, barnaby?
- 26:22Eric: Is that Barnaby, right?
- 26:23Eric: Is that the same?
- 26:24Eric: Yeah which one?
- 26:26Eric: Which one's better?
- 26:26Eric: You got to pick one.
- 26:28Sydney: Well, the first one I love Tom Barnaby.
- 26:32Eric: Okay, the other one holds his own, but the standard still is Tom.
- 26:41Sydney: And I don't think that can ever be beat.
- 26:43Sydney: But you know what I, john Barnaby, did, grow on me.
- 26:48Sydney: It was like I just couldn't stay away from the show.
- 26:50Sydney: So I stayed away for like a couple months and then I was like I think it's time I came and you know what he has like a really cute dog and he has a really Sassy wife who's nothing like Joyce, whose Tom's wife.
- 27:05Sydney: So it was kind of me.
- 27:09Eric: Well, all right, so this is gonna get off topic for just one second, though Do you do watch dr who's at all?
- 27:15Eric: I Watched like maybe the first season of doctor or, you know, maybe was the current season of doctor who, like a zillion years ago, Okay, that's like one of the things I Went through doctor who phase for a while there, and it's like whenever you get a new doctor who you're like, oh no, he's, you know, he's the worst ill doctor who was better, and then after a couple episodes You're like, okay, this doctor who's not so bad, but it is it is a tough to fill one of those iconic roles and then have to keep it going so.
- 27:49Sydney: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:50Sydney: So where?
- 27:52Sydney: What?
- 27:52Sydney: What about you, eric?
- 27:54Sydney: What British mystery are you Did?
- 27:57Eric: you start out with.
- 27:59Eric: I, I'm gonna go with Agatha raisin and I Like it for many reasons.
- 28:06Eric: One of the things is just very funny.
- 28:09Eric: Ashley Jensen is the one who plays Agatha raisin.
- 28:14Eric: She, she just nails the role.
- 28:18Eric: But it's kind of interesting because it's a little different than the hallmark mysteries, because she's a little, she's a little bit older, she's in her 50s and so it's.
- 28:29Eric: You know the other ones, not that you know the, the, the Alice's and Lacey's are getting older, but you know there's still Whatever can be like on dating and and I'm, I'm that age, whereas she's definitely like, oh, I'm middle-aged, and she that she plays it up, but it's very kooky.
- 28:53Eric: It takes place in the Cotswolds, I think it is, which I don't know if that's real or not.
- 29:01Eric: They used some of the same filming locations as Midsummer but it's like, yeah, really, really pretty places They've mysteries are just kind of corny.
- 29:10Eric: She's this, you know, she starts out.
- 29:13Eric: She's a London PR executive who Makes her fortune decide, she's retiring early and heads out to the country and all the interesting characters she meets and she stumbles on Now start solving these, these murders, and it's just a lot of fun.
- 29:33Eric: They're just a lot of fun.
- 29:33Eric: They're just a lot of fun.
- 29:35Eric: Her also.
- 29:37Eric: One of the things that I know you'll like about him is her fashion.
- 29:41Eric: She just Like she's out in the countryside and everyone else are, you know, I don't want to say Downdressed, but they're, you know, they're not by any means fancy.
- 29:54Eric: And then there's her walking around in these like stiletto heels, no mat, you know trouncing through a field or something, just dressed to the nines.
- 30:03Eric: Yeah, looking spectacular so, and she's also has this total attitude where at first you may find her a little bit abrasive but it quickly just becomes Very likable, because that's one of the things that I I Do not enjoy and it seems to be very popular now, whereas they kind of have the anti hero in a lot of shows where the main characters are just not likeable.
- 30:28Eric: There's there's HB.
- 30:31Eric: I just finished watching an HBO, the other two, I think it is where, yeah it's where, like their, little brother becomes this.
- 30:41Eric: He's kind of like a Justin Bieber sensation who gets famous.
- 30:47Eric: And then they're the older ones and they are just too Like.
- 30:52Eric: It starts out, the first season is actually pretty good, but then after that they're just so unlikable.
- 30:54Eric: I found it just hard to watch and I couldn't.
- 30:57Eric: When they had every dimension, I just couldn't even support him, whereas with her she softens up enough.
- 31:03Eric: She still has like a little abrasiveness, but it's in a very funny way.
- 31:07Eric: It's not in a way where you're like I don't like you.
- 31:12Eric: Yeah what it has done is it's burned me to read the books as well, because, you know, one of the things I like doing is comparing the movies to the books and they actually, they actually Do follow plot wise Somewhat.
- 31:30Eric: I don't want to not necessarily super close, but they do follow it, whereas, like you know, we've talked about some of the hallmarks where you know carrot cake, other than having a piece of carrot cake in it, it had nothing to do with the book.
- 31:45Eric: Um, curious caters.
- 31:48Eric: They sort of take, like one we talked to John about that too takes one little scene out of the book and Makes the whole movie around it.
- 31:56Eric: So, um, these really do kind of follow it.
- 32:00Eric: The one thing that I'll say in the book that's uh Little different is Agatha is definitely not as likable, she's way more insecure, and so I found the books not quite as enjoyable, um, as the uh, as the movies.
- 32:20Sydney: I feel like with agatha, though there is like when you're watching it, there's an undercurrent of insecurity, and she's always like that.
- 32:29Sydney: Something that helps with the abrasiveness of her personality is that she's always falling over herself or she looks Ridiculous in some way that you're, you're like.
- 32:40Eric: I can easily laugh off your you know Downsides, because You're right, and that's the thing, though, is they they sort of Interject like a little bit of humor, and I also think it's Maybe the difference between the you know the words and then when you see ashley jensen Portrayal of that is, she's able to make it like soften the edges, whereas in the book it just it isn't, and you know, she's just very, she gets so angry, whereas when you see ashley do it, she does it like in a humorous way and, yeah, whereas in in the book it's just Anger and insecurity, and this woman needs a lot of uh Therapy and she is just so horribly insecure.
- 33:31Eric: The um, but you know.
- 33:34Eric: Back to the, to the ask, to the, to the.
- 33:36Eric: You know the movie versions, they're just a whole lot of fun.
- 33:40Eric: And then the different characters around the neighborhood um, the vickers, wife sarah, who um I think it's great bill wong, who's the dci, who's the young guy who uh, oh yeah starts out having the crush on her, he's really good.
- 33:57Eric: But I think my favorite side character is, uh, her housekeeper.
- 34:03Sydney: Oh really, it's not, roly.
- 34:05Eric: Gemma no.
- 34:07Eric: Roy is pretty good.
- 34:08Eric: No, I like I think Gemma is just hilarious, but so yeah.
- 34:12Eric: So I think it is just a truly delightful, fun mystery.
- 34:19Eric: There's like good mysteries in there as well, like, if you like, the hallmark mysteries.
- 34:23Eric: It's definitely cozy mystery.
- 34:25Eric: Midsommar is cozy as well, but it has a very different feel, whereas I think the, I think agatha is a pretty close Similarity to, to a hallmark.
- 34:42Eric: You know, it's just a hallmark over on the, on the other continent, over there, and, um, if you like him, I think you would really really enjoy um, agatha Raisin and you know, plus, she has that funny name.
- 34:56Eric: So, yeah.
- 34:59Eric: And there there's only the only thing at the downside to it is, I want to say, I think the first season's like six episodes and then it's like four and four, so there's not a ton of Of episodes.
- 35:12Eric: You'll get through it fairly quickly.
- 35:14Sydney: I know it's kind of sad.
- 35:16Eric: But I guess if you compare it to like picture perfect Gourmet detective, you know any of them.
- 35:23Eric: There's not that many of the hallmark ones either.
- 35:25Eric: Um, crossword puzzles, you get through that.
- 35:29Eric: That's what.
- 35:30Eric: Five.
- 35:30Eric: So I shouldn't I guess I shouldn't complain about like 13 or whatever it is.
- 35:35Eric: So, yeah, all right.
- 35:39Eric: So there we go.
- 35:41Eric: We each got one.
- 35:41Eric: What's your?
- 35:42Eric: What's your?
- 35:42Sydney: uh, your second recommendation so, moving along, we're going to go with the classic.
- 35:49Sydney: Um, I absolutely love Agatha Christie's Poirot.
- 35:55Sydney: Um, it's based off of her, it's a.
- 35:58Sydney: It's a series that the bbc did, um based off of um, agatha Christie's famous belgian detective, her cue pillow and that's always like a funny element of it, because no one can ever say it right because he's over in england and the british people are like what?
- 36:18Sydney: And he's like her cue.
- 36:21Sydney: Yes, and it's played by this guy named david sachet.
- 36:25Sydney: I think it's sachet, but this guy and I've seen other people play Uh Poirot, because he was famous for you know her book, death on the Nile and murder on the orient express and that sort of thing.
- 36:40Sydney: But this guy plays it phenomenally.
- 36:45Sydney: I mean, if everything from the mustache to the, the wardrobe, to the way he says things, it's like some of the best acting I've ever seen.
- 36:58Sydney: Like get the heck out of here, nicole kidman, because this guy, this guy is phenomenal and it ran for a really long time.
- 37:08Sydney: I think it had like 13 seasons, so it went through, you know, until the early 2000s.
- 37:13Sydney: Um, but it's.
- 37:18Sydney: It's definitely worth a watch if you're looking for classic mysteries that are set in kind of like the flapper era or you know a little bit after that, like 20s, 30s type of stuff um the costumes, the setting like the, like the setting that they have, like the hotels and all the dance parties and different Stuff like that.
- 37:45Sydney: It's all perfect.
- 37:47Sydney: It looks just like You're there, like they filmed it then.
- 37:52Sydney: So I would highly recommend that, because the mysteries are really interesting.
- 38:01Eric: Oftentimes you really don't know who did it um, and they're really thoughtful, like I would say if you're a mystery 101 fan, you kind of should be doing that because you know we talk about it quite a bit in this.
- 38:17Eric: But that's John Christian Palmer's you know idol and how he bases a lot of his um stories from Agatha Christie and that the, the, the magical eighth, that never happened, was a, uh, agatha Christie mystery.
- 38:36Eric: So yeah.
- 38:37Eric: But they're not cozy.
- 38:42Sydney: Well, I would say that you're not going to see like real violence in it, but you are going to have more adult themed things happening in it.
- 38:55Eric: Yeah, they're a little darker, a little more intense, but yeah, it's not like.
- 39:00Eric: Yeah, you don't see the blood and guts, and it's mostly implied.
- 39:05Sydney: And you do have like a bit of still the comedic element of it.
- 39:10Sydney: You know and I haven't confirmed to this, but I'm almost positive that Monk is a weird variation of puro.
- 39:22Sydney: I am almost positive.
- 39:24Sydney: I don't know if this is written somewhere, but I'm pretty sure, because also the dynamic puro has with, like, his secretary and the chief constable that he's always helping out, is very similar to puro and his nurse lady and you know.
- 39:46Sydney: So he doesn't have OCD, but he does like things in a certain way.
- 39:51Eric: Right, I can see that that's a very interesting Now there's there's.
- 39:55Eric: We have to get on like Reddit or something and start doing some and sleuthing ourselves and try to find out.
- 40:01Sydney: That's our thread.
- 40:02Sydney: Is Monk really like puro in a different suit?
- 40:08Eric: I'm sure there's a lot of theories that are about that.
- 40:12Sydney: Yeah, I can definitely.
- 40:15Eric: I can definitely see that they can say it's not obviously just an Americanized version of it, because, yeah, there there's definitely differences.
- 40:24Eric: But right.
- 40:25Eric: I can see it being, yes, based off it, and then you know, then going and creating the character off of that, but using that as like, the foundation.
- 40:37Sydney: Yeah, it's like with Clueless.
- 40:40Sydney: Clueless is just a variation of Jane Austen's Emma.
- 40:44Eric: Right, you're not going to steer anybody wrong who likes mysteries by sending them Agatha Christie, which will perfect segue to me, because my next one is Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime.
- 41:01Eric: Now I don't know.
- 41:03Eric: I'll be honest, I'm going to actually, when I get done with I'm going to take a break after I'm on the sixth Agatha Erkstime, agatha Raisin book and I'm going to switch over and I'm going to start doing some Agatha Christie, because I've never read Agatha Christie and have you read any of it?
- 41:26Sydney: I have not, but I do have an Agatha Christie book.
- 41:32Sydney: That was sitting for a while.
- 41:36Eric: I'm sure, like obviously there's a zillion Agatha Christie movies out there.
- 41:42Eric: I don't know if Partners in Crime, though if it's like I believe that they are Agatha Christie characters.
- 41:51Eric: That I don't know, though, if these mysteries are actually like just the characters.
- 41:57Eric: And then this writer, because there's a writer who you know it's written and it doesn't say you know, adaptation of anything.
- 42:04Eric: So I don't know if she's took the characters from an Agatha Christie story and created a series out of them or if the series is based off of it.
- 42:13Eric: But it's basically there's Tommy and Tupperance Tupperance I forget what her name is, but something like that and they're just a little typical British criminal proper.
- 42:27Eric: It's back in the I want to say, 50s, I think maybe the late 40s, but they're a very prim and proper British couple and they just sort of fall into solving these mysteries and his uncle is and like MI6, and they just get recruited in and just sort of dumb luck their way through it and they're just, they're fun.
- 42:56Eric: It's definitely different.
- 42:58Eric: They're like dynamic between it's.
- 43:03Eric: I don't want to say it's kind of.
- 43:05Eric: I think if we I don't know, I guess it will be a little, it's a little cases of mystery, laying with Birdie and Alden, like she's definitely, I would say, the sharper one even though she's a quote unquote, stay at home, you know, just woman of the generation, but she's definitely got some sass to her.
- 43:34Eric: And then he is just kind of, I guess he just sort of fumbles his way through things and just oops, oops, oops, and they have some great repertoire between them.
- 43:47Eric: The mysteries are pretty good.
- 43:50Eric: They it goes like a three part and then it solves it.
- 43:55Eric: So it's not like a, it's all soft and one.
- 43:58Eric: Each one ends on a little cliffhanger and then you have the next episode, so they're not self contained.
- 44:03Eric: And then there's two sets of three.
- 44:05Eric: So it's, it's a lot of fun.
- 44:09Eric: You do get that Agatha Christie aspect of it.
- 44:12Eric: You've got some, you know, just really good character development, a good mystery.
- 44:16Eric: And Agatha Christie one of the things she does is she.
- 44:20Eric: You never know really who it is or you know where it's going.
- 44:26Eric: She's great at the red herring and misdirection and you think you got it figured out and then you'd like, nope, can't possibly be, and you go a whole nother direction only to find out, no, you did have it figured out, but you're convinced that it couldn't be that person.
- 44:42Eric: And so I think it's, it's fun.
- 44:45Eric: It's also like I say that fifties, that period piece which I'm usually not the hugest fan of, which will be interesting when we get to my third one as well.
- 44:55Eric: But it just, it's just like I say, it's a fun mystery.
- 45:02Eric: There's one of the things, though, that's kind of interesting about the British ones, even though they're in the cozy genre, is they definitely are a little saucer over there on that side of the ocean than we are over here because, like they have smoking, you know the character smoke there's like much more like drinking or getting drunk and a little more shenanigans, maybe a little, you know, visiting in the brothel, which I cannot imagine a Hallmark movie going to a brothel, you know.
- 45:35Eric: So there's just definitely some much more spiciness to the British mysteries than we have over here in the Hallmark ones.
- 45:46Eric: But they're not, they're still totally cozy and I think, once again, if you enjoy Hallmark, you'll enjoy partners in crime.
- 46:01Sydney: Yeah, yeah Well, so my last choice for this evening is kind of a well card.
- 46:10Sydney: It has only got one season.
- 46:14Sydney: So considering all these other mysteries with like 13 seasons and more, this is kind of like the new kid on the block, but it's called recipes for love and murder.
- 46:28Eric: All right, I saw that one I have not seen it I was thinking All right.
- 46:31Sydney: Oh yeah, Okay.
- 46:33Sydney: So it takes place in a small town called Eden, South Africa.
- 46:40Sydney: So it's in South Africa and the actress who plays so it centers around this lady named Tani Maria and she's played by Maria Doyle Kennedy and it is like this character was made for this lady.
- 46:59Sydney: She does the best job and the cinematography like the scenery, the shots of when she's cooking, are so beautiful, Like that alone made me like love this show and hope that there's more because it was just so beautiful.
- 47:22Sydney: And so basically, Tani Maria works at this silly like newspaper for the small town that is located in the back of the butcher shop and she runs an advice column.
- 47:39Eric: The newspapers run out of the butcher shop.
- 47:42Sydney: Yeah, the office is in the back of the butcher shop.
- 47:45Sydney: So she answers questions in this advice column and the way she answers them are really thoughtful.
- 47:58Sydney: But she always gets her ideas for the answer to the questions through a recipe that she comes up with in her kitchen.
- 48:04Sydney: So like.
- 48:07Eric: It's kind of like us in our signature cocktails.
- 48:09Sydney: Yeah yeah, cocktails solve all their problems.
- 48:12Sydney: But it's so unique and interesting just how it all comes together, like she'll be narrating the answer and it'll be showing her making the recipe and then showing the person who got the answer making the recipe too.
- 48:31Sydney: And like the answers and her recipes don't always coincide with the bigger picture crime, and this one was a little bit different in the sense that every episode isn't like a new murder.
- 48:47Sydney: So I don't want to give too much away, but I highly, highly highly recommend and I hope that they make a season too.
- 48:58Eric: Okay, so it's current, so it's not like oh, we made one season in 2016.
- 49:04Sydney: Right, so I watched it when it first came out, and it came out in September 2022.
- 49:13Eric: Okay, so Now is it an actual.
- 49:14Eric: She says it's South Africa, right.
- 49:18Sydney: Yeah.
- 49:18Eric: So is it like?
- 49:19Eric: Are they actual South African like show or is it a British show that they've just made in South Africa?
- 49:29Sydney: Yeah, so I think it's a British show that they made in South Africa.
- 49:33Sydney: Most of the people in the show are South African, but the actress who plays Tani Maria and also her character, is supposed to have come from Scotland.
- 49:50Sydney: Yeah, and you're also kind of looking at the angle of like why did she come to Scotland?
- 49:56Sydney: And like is that really her name?
- 49:59Sydney: And so there's like a lot of more intriguing stuff about it, like it's kind of got like different mysteries going on at the same time.
- 50:08Eric: So this is a woman doing an advice column out of the back of a butcher shop based on recipes.
- 50:20Eric: While solving mysteries.
- 50:24Sydney: In a way yeah.
- 50:26Eric: That's a whole lot going on.
- 50:28Sydney: Yeah and it's so.
- 50:30Sydney: I just can't stress like how beautiful it is.
- 50:33Eric: So it's.
- 50:34Eric: She's essentially a mix of Elk McPherson from Chronicles with Hannah Swensen from Hannah Swensen or Goldie Bear, curious caterer with.
- 50:50Eric: Well, there's clearly no butcher in the Hallmark mysteries.
- 50:57Sydney: But so she's just sort of.
- 51:00Eric: Now is it funny or is it more like?
- 51:04Sydney: So I think there are some dramatic undertones, but it is labeled as a comedy, so there are like comedic elements to it, for sure.
- 51:14Eric: Okay, all right, and are they?
- 51:17Eric: You said how the, the Mysteries aren't.
- 51:21Eric: It's kind of like partners in crime, right?
- 51:22Eric: So it doesn't all Conclude in that one episode.
- 51:26Eric: You, you watch them.
- 51:28Eric: So it's a.
- 51:28Eric: It's more of a series than it's individuals put together.
- 51:33Eric: Okay, all right, I will.
- 51:37Eric: I will give that a a go.
- 51:40Eric: I'll watch how many, how many of my, are in the in the first season.
- 51:43Sydney: I Want to say there's.
- 51:45Sydney: I went through them so quick, so maybe like six six.
- 51:49Eric: Are they full movies or are they?
- 51:53Sydney: Hour, but it's so.
- 51:55Sydney: I can't wait to hear what you think of it, because I really loved it.
- 51:58Eric: Okay, well, so I will go back a little bit where you're telling me I have to watch the midsummer, and so I started watching them and then I'm like, holy crap, if I like stay on this, I'll be Finishing this up about that.
- 52:10Eric: You know the time I'm nearing my grave because there are so many seasons on there and just making new ones.
- 52:17Eric: So as soon as I feel like I'm catching up, I'll knock off a season.
- 52:21Eric: Then there'll be a new season that comes out.
- 52:23Eric: So it's definitely that's a lifetime Commitment there.
- 52:27Eric: Whereas this sounds like I wanted I could binge it, maybe, and knock it out in a weekend.
- 52:32Eric: So Okay, what was it called again?
- 52:37Sydney: recipes for love and murder.
- 52:40Eric: Okay.
- 52:42Sydney: It's based off a book too I think it's of the same name like a recipes for love and murder, tawny Maria mystery or something no, actually that is very much than I guess killer or the Hannah Swenson it, because in the books she's always Including recipes.
- 53:04Eric: Throughout the books there's, like I don't know, six or seven recipes that are included in the book too.
- 53:10Eric: So, yeah, so this is, this is one we can watch and learn how to cook, why we're, while we're at it, what kind of food does?
- 53:18Sydney: and it looks really good.
- 53:22Eric: So it isn't like stuff.
- 53:24Eric: That's all this meat stuff in the butcher necessarily.
- 53:27Sydney: No, there's some recipes that I've eaten it, but she's got a really great like A dessert recipe.
- 53:34Sydney: There were some really yummy sandwiches she made one time.
- 53:39Sydney: There's a lot of stuff going on there.
- 53:41Sydney: I can't remember them off the top of my head, but I remember each time thinking wow, that looks good.
- 53:48Eric: But yeah, I'm trying to make one yet Because you're pretty you are pretty fancy, you can, you do that kind of stuff.
- 53:54Sydney: I do.
- 53:55Sydney: But you know, maybe on a weekend, because a work night is so rough to be, like really like in the mood with your vegetables or like toss and tomatoes and olive oil and you're Solving people's problems.
- 54:13Eric: Well, there you go.
- 54:13Eric: I put a challenge out for you to make a one of the recipes from the book and I expect to see it.
- 54:20Eric: I expect to see it on living the homework dream.
- 54:23Sydney: So oh no, I think you probably expect to see it on the hallmark mysteries and more.
- 54:29Eric: We'll share it.
- 54:30Eric: I'll share it over there, alright.
- 54:32Eric: So my last one you left England and I'm leaving England as well for that old penal County of Australia and it's called Miss Fisher miss Fisher modern mysteries and it's a 1950s One that's based off of a very famous Mystery that I know you're a big fan of, miss Fisher, and there's a whole series on a corner watching of those, as well as a movie as well.
- 55:06Eric: That is her aunt.
- 55:08Eric: So basically she comes and there's this like collection of sort of it's the League of Extraordinary Women kind of thing and she, um, somehow inherits her aunt's house and the most amazing car.
- 55:25Eric: I'm not like a car guy.
- 55:26Eric: I drive a Prius and I'm very happy with my Prius, right.
- 55:29Eric: But her car in this it's like this 19.
- 55:31Eric: I don't know what it is, but I've told my wife, if we win the Powerball, which is over a billion dollars now, I am totally getting this car because it is the coolest little sports car I've ever seen.
- 55:45Eric: But she drives it and this movie is, like I say, set in the 50s.
- 55:50Eric: She I don't know who styles her, but the style in this movie is Just off the charts.
- 56:01Eric: And then there's the guy in there who I forget what his name is, but he's the detective and he just has that total 1950s crisp suit with the little fedora that he wears and it just All.
- 56:19Eric: This is kind of like, you know, when we talk picture perfect and we're Talking around Oliver and he used to saying how he was trying to get all those things right, and it's just a look at it, all those picture perfect, and we talked about the little things in there that just made that movie.
- 56:37Eric: Take that, amplify it by a hundred and you have this movie.
- 56:43Eric: It is, everything is so good and whatever their budget is for her wardrobe, gotta be off the charts because every single outfit she wears is Spectacular.
- 56:58Eric: I got you know what I'm do.
- 56:58Eric: I'm gonna have to get a friend, nicole McCormick, on it and get her since she is a professional Costumer, get her to watch it and see what her opinion is on this.
- 57:11Eric: Yeah, it's so good.
- 57:14Eric: And then the mysteries it's just got that like very Sort of hip.
- 57:18Eric: It's it's 50.
- 57:20Eric: So it's not quite mod squad, but it's just got that very hitness to it.
- 57:24Eric: And you know, she's probably think you know in her in her late 20s, I would guess, and so is the detective, and they're just so Too cool for school.
- 57:37Eric: It's just fantastic and the mysteries are fun.
- 57:40Eric: There's a little bit of quirkiness to them.
- 57:44Eric: The other women who are part of this organization All have some interesting side stories.
- 57:51Eric: Heck, the one I just watched one today and you know, is dealing with UFOs.
- 57:55Eric: But it wasn't really.
- 57:55Eric: You know, it was government experiments, but you know.
- 58:00Eric: But people had were thinking it was UFOs and it's just Like such a visual Masterpiece to watch.
- 58:09Eric: And the Next thing, and miss Fisher, and this could not be any better, she's perfectly cast, she just has the right look.
- 58:19Eric: The guy plays the detective, just perfect look.
- 58:23Eric: So it's just fun and it is one that totally Could be a hallmark mystery as well.
- 58:29Eric: It just recast it, bring it over here.
- 58:33Eric: You know, you have, I would say, ronan Fish in it as a fish for Fisher.
- 58:41Eric: That'd be interesting, but she would like be a perfect one.
- 58:44Eric: But we're not taking her out of Nikki and nor, but just in general, she was imagine like her in this total stylish 50s and it would.
- 58:55Eric: It would be perfect and that's one that I think would all mine, actually I think would very much translate to hallmark channel if we decided to redo them and bring them over over here.
- 59:08Eric: But it is just a really good series, kind of like your, yours, where I want to say there's only one season of it and they didn't continue it.
- 59:18Eric: I have not gotten all the way through it.
- 59:21Eric: I've gotten through, I think, six episodes and, but I don't like.
- 59:29Eric: I don't think there's a second season, which is a shame because it's like 2016, so they're clearly not, unlike yours, going to be making another season Of it, which is like I say, yeah, that's too bad it is if you do get lonely for it.
- 59:43Sydney: You can try her aunt, though, because everything you're talking about is going to be a little bit more.
- 59:47Sydney: You're talking about with the style and stuff.
- 59:50Sydney: They did a good job with the first one too, right?
- 59:54Eric: And that's like in the 20s though, right, so it's got the flap.
- 59:57Sydney: But her outfits are like dino, my man.
- 1:00:02Sydney: It's Like the sequins and the Fringe and I don't even know, but it's beautiful.
- 1:00:11Eric: So yeah, so they, like I said, you know one of the things that you know.
- 1:00:16Eric: We talked about it once again in picture perfect the way that they just stylized that movie, that they had a little bit of budget to go go do in In the dancing detective.
- 1:00:29Eric: They clearly had some budget to go ahead and stylize that, but Nowhere near, nowhere near with this, with this one is.
- 1:00:40Eric: So I Could say it.
- 1:00:43Eric: If you like a hallmark, I think any of the three that I talked about Are fantastic.
- 1:00:50Eric: Probably two of the three are very hallmarky that you like and if you're a sleuther, you'd like it.
- 1:00:58Eric: Yeah, I got that, christy.
- 1:00:59Eric: So hopefully we've convinced some people to go ahead and subscribe to Acorn.
- 1:01:07Eric: There's also isn't that what it's called?
- 1:01:11Sydney: Yeah, acorn.
- 1:01:12Eric: Okay, I thought maybe I was like looking at it wrong.
- 1:01:15Eric: There's like that's just like a cron or something and I've been pronouncing it wrong the entire time.
- 1:01:20Eric: But there's also Brit box, which I don't know what theirs are.
- 1:01:24Eric: I assume it's got similar.
- 1:01:27Sydney: Different ones.
- 1:01:28Sydney: I think Brit box has like sister bonafos and Like miss Marple and things like that.
- 1:01:35Eric: So I mean there are different stuff on in the miss Marple is one that Seems like it's got to be a good one because they always really good.
- 1:01:47Eric: They always refer.
- 1:01:48Eric: Have you seen them and you know?
- 1:01:50Eric: Oh yeah, Agatha Christie's miss Marple, that's how would you, how do you see that if you don't have Brit box?
- 1:01:55Sydney: Oh, I see poor.
- 1:01:58Sydney: Oh and and Miss Marple on PBS, you can just just like regular, regular old PBS.
- 1:02:08Sydney: Yeah, and I have YouTube TV now.
- 1:02:11Sydney: So I just go and find it, add to the library, and then I watch all of them later.
- 1:02:18Eric: Wait.
- 1:02:18Eric: So, as you know, we both got YouTube TV at the same time and adjusting to that life.
- 1:02:24Eric: So If you just go find, look it up, find it and hit add to the library, oh, do you go find and record all the old ones or add all the old?
- 1:02:34Sydney: one.
- 1:02:34Sydney: It'll just start recording all of them.
- 1:02:37Eric: Okay, so it won't Go, won't record back in time.
- 1:02:41Eric: So, but I guess my question is so they're still showing them?
- 1:02:47Sydney: Yes, there's you know.
- 1:02:48Sydney: On on my PBS Pro is on every Saturday night and Miss Marple is on every Sunday night.
- 1:02:56Eric: Okay.
- 1:02:57Sydney: So just look in your TV, guy.
- 1:03:03Eric: Our PBS is not all the same everywhere.
- 1:03:05Eric: Like for that I think that.
- 1:03:08Sydney: I think that there is like I have three PBS channels and Two of them are like local ones.
- 1:03:19Eric: And the, but the prime time isn't the same for all of them.
- 1:03:23Sydney: I know they're not all the same.
- 1:03:24Sydney: So yeah, you just have to look at your your just to make sure.
- 1:03:29Sydney: There's PBS also has mid summer murder too.
- 1:03:35Eric: Okay, I'm totally wrong on Miss Fisher.
- 1:03:37Eric: There's Miss Fisher modern Mysteries.
- 1:03:41Eric: There are two seasons.
- 1:03:42Eric: Well, good and it ended in 21, so maybe there is still hope, maybe in two years.
- 1:03:51Eric: I guess isn't that that far out, considering it was 2019 and then 2021, so that's a two-year gap.
- 1:04:00Eric: So maybe there will be a third season coming.
- 1:04:06Sydney: Yeah, we can hope That'd be fantastic.
- 1:04:11Eric: Hopefully, I can say people got inspired to try a little bit Outside of their comfort zone of of Hallmark.
- 1:04:18Eric: I do know we have several of our listeners who Talk to us who are British mystery fans.
- 1:04:24Eric: So they, you know they'll be coming back and saying, oh yeah, this one, this, you know these are, these are ones are great as well.
- 1:04:32Eric: So Hopefully, like something we don't, the Hallmark and the I shouldn't say Hallmark is Hallmark's not leading the strike.
- 1:04:40Eric: They're not on the street.
- 1:04:41Eric: The studio is involved in all that.
- 1:04:43Eric: But hopefully the strike will get resolved sooner than later.
- 1:04:45Eric: Studios will come off their high horse and give the writers and the actors what they are asking for, which is reasonable, and we can get some fourth quarter Mysteries coming down down the road.
- 1:05:04Eric: But until then, got some good mysteries over there in England, in South Africa and Australia.
- 1:05:07Eric: Yeah.
- 1:05:11Eric: Check them out.
- 1:05:13Sydney: Also.
- 1:05:17Eric: If you would be so kind as to refer our podcast to a friend.
- 1:05:20Eric: We greatly appreciate it.
- 1:05:21Eric: If you Likely, here, just tell one of your friends, hey, give it a go, give it a listen.
- 1:05:28Eric: We greatly would appreciate that.
- 1:05:28Eric: Yes, we would.
- 1:05:29Sydney: If you're looking for more mystery content, you can go follow Us over on Instagram at Hallmark mysteries and more.
- 1:05:41Sydney: Maybe we'll do some fun British sleuther style posts this weekend.
- 1:05:45Sydney: Oh, sleuther style, all right.
- 1:05:49Eric: If I had your ability, I would do a sleuther style once again with miss Fisher.
- 1:05:53Eric: I texted you, like when I was watching it today, I texted you that picture of that dress you was wearing, which was just fantastic with every episode, every episode.
- 1:06:01Eric: So, and Agatha, once again fantastic.
- 1:06:06Eric: Like those period pieces, the Agatha Christie's are very good.
- 1:06:13Eric: How is the fashion in the South African now?
- 1:06:17Eric: Romance.
- 1:06:21Sydney: It's cool, it's a.
- 1:06:22Sydney: It's very like the main character has a very like bohemian breezy type of look to her, which I think is you know, every so Cal mama Lips up.
- 1:06:30Sydney: Oh he me and breezy outfit.
- 1:06:32Sydney: Okay, perfect.
- 1:06:32Sydney: But I think we'll focus on miss Fisher and poor.
- 1:06:39Sydney: Oh, because those are really the two style icons a bunch.
- 1:06:40Sydney: Fantastic, you could do.
- 1:06:42Sydney: You could do miss Fisher and miss Fisher modern.
- 1:06:47Eric: Wow, flapper, and a new one.
- 1:06:48Eric: And then make sure you tell people where they can Buy those clothes too, which?
- 1:06:59Sydney: store they go in to get their flapper gear, did someone.
- 1:07:02Eric: I will say though I was watching the Royal Christmas crush and the what's?
- 1:07:11Eric: Kate Cassidy.
- 1:07:12Eric: I think is that her name.
- 1:07:14Sydney: I forget she was, what is it?
- 1:07:19Eric: Yeah, no way, I'm not sure, is it?
- 1:07:22Sydney: yeah, no way.
- 1:07:23Sydney: Yeah, you didn't know that.
- 1:07:27Eric: Oh, there's Cassidy's all over.
- 1:07:29Eric: Why would I think that they're related?
- 1:07:31Eric: Oh yeah, I learned something new today.
- 1:07:34Eric: Well, in her first scene at the ice castle she's got these boots on and my wife's like, oh my god, those boots, those the boots I want to get.
- 1:07:42Eric: So I've been trying to get hold of the costumer from that movie, who doesn't do a lot of them, and trying to stalk her down and find out what, where I can get those boots.
- 1:07:58Sydney: So Maybe anyone who's watched it.
- 1:08:02Eric: Yes, I say, hey, go watch that movie.
- 1:08:04Eric: I asked the wardrobe gals and none of them had an answer for me.
- 1:08:07Eric: But if anyone's watched it and you know what those boots are and where I can get them, shoot me a message over in our DM.
- 1:08:16Eric: I'd greatly appreciate it.
- 1:08:17Eric: Yeah, on that note, on that note I say Good night Sydney.
- 1:08:26Sydney: Good night Eric.
- 1:08:27Sydney: Sweet British dreams.
- 1:08:31Eric: What do you say to the Lou To?
- 1:08:33Sydney: the Lou To the Lou.
- 1:08:35Eric: So I'm going to go have a spot of tea and retire for the evening.
- 1:08:42Sydney: Okay, sounds lovely.
- 1:08:43Sydney: Bye.
