  As I said earlier, Jim and I attended this with with three of

  his friends from college. I took the trip up from SUNY
• 7:17
  Oneonta to Buffalo and then B we went up to Toronto and man I
• 7:24
  don't want to spend too much time talking about our
• 7:26
  experience in Toronto because I don't think too many people want
• 7:29
  to hear about it, but we went to access on Saturday and it was it
• 7:34
  was cooler than any other access I've ever seen.
• 7:37
  Probably because it was in the early stages of it, but here we
• 7:40
  are Sunday. Let's talk a little bit about
• 7:43
  Hogan versus Rock. So first, how did we get here?
• 7:47
  The NWO arrived in WF in January of 2002 after the Royal Rumble.

  So when you think about it, the build was kind of pretty short.

  It's The nowadays everybody says, especially myself how we

  want a bigger build to these matches and really this
• 8:04
  pay-per-view was actually on st. Patrick's Day.

  So they only had about a month that they built this match,
• 8:11
  which is pretty crazy. This is, this is a while after
• 8:16
  WWF invaded WCW and and bought them Hogan Hall and Nash, didn't
• 8:22
  come over during the original purchase of WCW.

  There was an interest in both. Sighs from what I've read and
• 8:28
  heard and it made more sense contractually for those three
• 8:31
  guys to just stay at home and collect their Millions.
• 8:33
  So here we are, talks have continued, and they are, they're
• 8:37
  signed with wws before we even talk about Hogan versus Rock.
• 8:43
  One thing that I think everybody always has to think of any.
• 8:47
  You can't talk about snatching. Not think about it.
• 8:50
  What would have happened if it was Hogan versus Austin instead
• 8:53
  of Hogan versus Rock? How would that have played out?
• 8:57
  What? Is played out the same way.

  I don't know, I don't think so because Rock had he, he was able

  to pull it out when he needed to.

  Yeah, I think, as far as the Crowd Goes, I think Austin would

  would stay the crowd favorite and Hogan would be, would have

  the heel heat instead of the rock.

  You know people booing The Rock and cheering Hogan.

  I would be super interesting. No it's it's definitely

  something that I always think of because in my eyes Austin.

  Is was a little bit bigger of the star and this was kind of
• 9:31
  coming to the tail end. He always felt older than the
• 9:34
  rock because he was so it's pretty interesting to think
• 9:38
  about. So this story line between Rock
• 9:41
  and Hogan again. Like I said earlier, it came on
• 9:44
  pretty fast so it started because at the time Vince
• 9:47
  McMahon and Ric Flair, we're co-owners on screen co-owners of
• 9:53
  the WWF and on Raw, Vince was trying to buy back The rest of
• 9:57
  the company from flare and the glass shatters.

  Austin comes out as flares about the sign, over his share in the
• 10:05
  company, and Austin convinces him.
• 10:07
  Not to stunners beer, etc. Etc.

  The usual happens. So, Vince is not happy with
• 10:15
  this. Obviously, it leads to one of
• 10:18
  the most classic backstage, promos a few weeks later to end
• 10:23
  raw where he was going to kill what he created and inject.

  It's a lethal dose of poison into the WWF and then he turns
• 10:33
  around and you see NWO spray painted on the back of his chair
• 10:37
  in the reflection of a mirror. So think about that for a
• 10:40
  second. I don't know.

  Maybe it's just my creative mind working.

  They had to write individual backwards on the back of his
• 10:47
  chair so that it reflected the correct way in the mirror or
• 10:51
  maybe they were channeling. One Warrior Nation.

  You also delivered the lethal dose of poison line as it should

  feel. Like I've heard you say that 100

  I feel like Vince is a one-take monster heat.

  and says yeah, he struts out on the way.

  With the McMahon wants to do it. Yeah, I definitely if he had a

  Totally. Yes, another thing I found

  interesting, and I've heard it a few times is that, that Jericho
• 12:10
  had pitched that he believed this match should have went on
• 12:13
  last and I think heard with should I tell you guys that
• 12:16
  before the match or after the match?
• 12:18
  And I think before is the appropriate time because Jericho
• 12:21
  was 100%, right? And we'll get there but this
• 12:25
  match definitely should have Ended the match it was Hogan's
• 12:29
  first time back his first match back since since King of the
• 12:33
  Ring right after WrestleMania and I which we just covered in
• 12:36
  our previous episode. So yeah I have read the same
• 12:40
  thing that you did that Jericho like went around petitioning to
• 12:43
  flip the matches at the very least or like at least get him
• 12:46
  and Triple H out of the main event spot.
• 12:49
  But of course, from what I read, according to Mike keota, I think
• 12:52
  it was Triple H kind of resented being bumped out of The main
• 12:57
  event spot with with the championship on the line
• 13:00
  understandable with it being Triple H.
• 13:02
  I think that adds like a layer of you know, F, Triple H kind of
• 13:05
  right. But it makes sense because I
• 13:08
  think if you watch we rewash there's two matches after like
• 13:12
  the next match is the woman's title MASH, which the proudest
• 13:15
  the crowd is like you. They're ready to leave me.

  There's you ready to leave? Yeah, Jazz comes out first.

  There are you can't hear anything?

  Nobody cares, but that but it continues.

  The crowd is so wasted. And from Hogan Rock that they

  can't even get up for Jericho Triple H, which at the time,

  like on paper, that was a banger.

  Yeah, I mean, we're going to talk about it.

  But, you know, going back to that, I remember feeling
• 13:40
  exhausted by the end of this match.

  Hungover has yeah. Yeah, exactly.

  So we'll get to that. Pretty much interviews.

  Earl not right before the match. But earlier in the the card Rock

  has one of the best pre-match interviews man.

  It's Good. It's four minutes and I hated

  coach but I loved Rock and his interaction with a guy like

  coach and he just rips and throughout the four minutes he
• 14:10
  put he puts over Hogan throughout the entire thing.

  He talks about how much of a legend he is and even starts
• 14:17
  using the hulkster classic lines.
• 14:20
  He asks, coach if he ate his vitamins says yes.
• 14:24
  And then he asks him if he said his prayers and And and Coach
• 14:28
  admits that he didn't say his prayers so he tells him to get
• 14:30
  down on his knees and in such classic coach fashion.

  He delivers a what up G and that is it this guy is such a heat
• 14:41
  magnet when he arrives because he's just he's got that mountie
• 14:45
  face dorky. It makes you cringe, he gives
• 14:53
  you one of Nick's favorite terms, secondhand embarrassment.

  Yeah, and rock lights up when he hears it, right?

  He's like season Tommy. Yeah, well Rocco's what he goes?

  What in the blue? Hell is wrong with you, he calls

  him a sick freak, then yeah. The East thrown out all these

  these classic lines, you know, reach down in your hookah

  stomach and your grab, your Hulk a strudel, and Promo ends with
• 15:28
  rock mimicking, Hulk's, catchphrases a rips off the
• 15:31
  shirt as music plays. Great interview.

  You know, make sure you go back peacocks, a little glitchy
• 15:37
  little hard to rewind and fast-forward if you're on the
• 15:40
  Apple TV like I am but but figure out a way to watch that

  before you watch this match. So one of the first interactions

  that the NWO has with anybody in the company is is with Austin

  backstage and it's at a raw And they decide that they're going
• 15:59
  to give them beer. They can the six-pack and it's

  classic like all banter, and Boston just takes the bureau.

  And you just toss it over your shoulder so that's good.

  One to find will drop that on Twitter but everybody has to

  our favorite backstage promos during this era and it's when

  the end up uo goes and meets rock after a match on Raw, they

  come back there and Hogan's got his little disposable camera

  that he's cranking up and he says, hey, your must my son's
• 16:36
  favorite wrestler and he wants to take a picture with him, so
• 16:40
  he does. And and wears well, the rock day
• 16:44
  with the rock, but, no, he takes a picture with him and then
• 16:48
  Hogan says something under his breath, right?
• 16:51
  Right. And, oh, what was that?
• 16:53
  And he delivers some of the most classic lines.

  Who does he go to school? Paul first?

  Yeah, it's crazy. She go the best part about it

  and you have to watch it. Is him mimicking.

  No, he's going to go up against one of these guys somewhere

  earlier where it could have been Hogan, verse Austin, but like

  Well, 100%, this does Hogan Austin meshes, well, I don't, I

  don't think so. And I think to Mike's Point

  earlier, like maybe the crowd is confused about who to cheer for

  their maybe they would still go for Hogan.

  I kind of disagree with what he said before, but I think they'd

  be much More conflicted about cheering for someone as a

  definitely definitely, at least more conflicted at least

  exactly. Yeah.

  So it's just like Rocky and Hogan, it's like they feel it.

  It's, I Converse icon, not to say Austin's, not an icon, but

  it's these two larger than life. Like Godzilla vs.

  King Kong base, Rocky was easier to Boo.

  At the time. I think true you had Hollywood

  aspirations already. It's hell even though he's not

  Hollywood Hogan. So think about Hogan and Austin

  in the ring stylist. Luckily, though, like right

  would Hogan be able to take a stunner?

  Would Hogan be able to take a look as press?

  I don't know. That's exactly it though.

  You're right. So on top of that, if we get

  Austin and Hogan, we don't get the best.

  The funny part is is that right before he hits that stunner,

  and yeah weird regressing a bit but I think that I almost I

  on paper is incredible in it. It's good but it doesn't quite

  live up to where it could be because I don't think Austin's

  heart isn't to it. This is when he was jumping in

  and out when he was kind of disappointed with where he our

  character was and he'll admit. At that right?

  A lot in interviews. Now that I've heard and actually

  one of the other things I heard, part of the reason why they

  didn't do Austin Hogan's because neither of them would agree to

  sell to the other one and job out.

  So pretty interesting there. All right, so right before the

  video package to preview this match, we see Hall and Nash

  backstage as Hall is defending his loss to Stone Cold and

  they're joined by Hogan, who's holding his bows in hand and he

  recently. It was actually from last year

  where he's talking about the match and he was like you know I

  was trying to do everything to solidify myself as the heel in

  the match leading up to it, you know I was you know, run it and

  rock with a hammer in the back of the head and I ran him over.

  With an 18 wheeler and I backtracked.

  And then I hit him again with the sealer and let's face it.

  Nobody would have survived that we had to pull rock out of the
• 21:23
  ambulance and I'm listening there.

  I'm like Hogan, the who actually believes that The Rock was in
• 21:27
  that ambulance. When you put it on you dope, oh,

  Hogan. Oh Hogan.

  I just love the the line. Where he in the video package

  where he challenges him and rock, and he said something

  about it would be my pleasure and rock business, not as much
