- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three O Take
- 0:16presented by Chinook. Cedry.
- 0:18This is episode 530. I'll be your host, Kyle Cord.
- 0:20I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:25Nate. KC How are we?
- 0:33Tell me, well, I already know how you feel about this NFL
- 0:36Draft. I, I want to keep it real with
- 0:40you. I couldn't care less and I know
- 0:43this is going to rubs people the wrong way.
- 0:44I just couldn't care less about the NFL draft.
- 0:48I'm here to talk ball, baseball specifically.
- 0:53You know, we all can't, we can't all agree on everything, but I
- 0:58think we can agree on baseball. Is that fair to say?
- 1:02Yeah, yeah. I admittedly don't know college
- 1:08ball enough to really have like a strong opinion about the
- 1:13draft, especially when like your team's like kind of middle of
- 1:21the road or even like good teams just because like you're not in
- 1:26the top ten. Maybe you're on the outskirts of
- 1:28the top ten and you're like, I'm I'm not digging to know who like
- 1:34the 5th ranked quarterback is or you know what I mean?
- 1:37Like, I don't know. It's plus the quarterback pool
- 1:40looks kind of like this year. And that's always like the crowd
- 1:43pleaser when you have good quarterbacks, like that's when
- 1:47people pay attention. But like, I don't know, I'm not.
- 1:54There's only so much room up here.
- 1:56There's only so much capacity. There's only so much storage
- 2:01space. There's only so many megabits
- 2:04per second operating boom, boom. And I don't got time right now.
- 2:11So I'll read. I'll read about it tomorrow
- 2:15maybe, but I'll stop looking after the top ten like the top
- 2:18first 10 picks. I'm not going to.
- 2:20I feel that. I feel that.
- 2:21I don't know, let's talk some baseball.
- 2:26Let's let's talk some ball. We can all agree on baseball.
- 2:31Well, I think we can also agree that there are some some elite
- 2:35arms around the league struggling.
- 2:37And I'm just going to go ahead and preface it by saying this.
- 2:41I think you're going to be surprised at my optimism in this
- 2:44particular segment. I've turned a page.
- 2:49I'm not feeling overly optimistic today, so.
- 2:52So this is going to be a good balance today I think.
- 2:55I've turned a page. I'm trying to be more optimistic
- 3:00about these things and I know for the people that have been
- 3:02listening for some time, been watching for some time to say
- 3:04you guys are awfully, awfully pessimistic when it comes to
- 3:10certain guys or. Certain teams, I think people
- 3:12like that, I think they do. We're just trying to keep it
- 3:15real, you know, like we're trying to.
- 3:17We're trying to call it like it is.
- 3:18We're not trying to, we're not trying to pander.
- 3:21We're not trying to to play to people's.
- 3:25Nope. Excessive optimism.
- 3:28We're just trying to call it like we see it, and sometimes we
- 3:31just see it a little more, a little more negatively,
- 3:33negatively at times. But with that said, Nate, let's
- 3:37talk about your favorite guy. Edwin Diaz was actually pulled
- 3:43from the game the other night. What time was that?
- 3:50This was what's today? Thursday.
- 3:53Wednesday. No, Wednesday.
- 3:56Yeah, it was the X rating game between the Phillies.
- 4:02Sort of wasn't. I'm not going to, I was just
- 4:06going to say it not, I'm not going to say an exclamation
- 4:08point on, on a rough start. Because at the end of the day,
- 4:12the reality of it is Edwin Diaz is really only if you look at
- 4:14the, if you look at the game logs, he's only had probably 2,
- 4:20maybe 3 rough outings, two of which really, really kind of
- 4:25screwed them up. But when the sample size is what
- 4:30it is, it's going to make things look a little bit worse than
- 4:34they really are, obviously. And you might say, well, isn't
- 4:37this just what you'd call it, your old fashioned overreaction?
- 4:42And some might say that it is, but as I've, as I feel like I've
- 4:48alluded to before, at this point in the season, it's all we have
- 4:53to go off of and all we have to go off of with Edwin Diaz is the
- 4:58fact that his numbers don't look great.
- 5:01And another thing I'd like to say on Edwin Diaz, and this
- 5:03isn't to make light of his, what I think ultimately ended up
- 5:07being like a cramp or something that he had to work out.
- 5:11Is that all? All I can really say is they
- 5:15need to ban the World Baseball Classic.
- 5:17Clearly this is the World Baseball Classic's fault.
- 5:21And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, Edwin Diaz.
- 5:26For some reason I I can't think of anything else when I hear the
- 5:31name Edwin Diaz anymore other than the injury that he
- 5:35sustained celebrating in the World Baseball Classic.
- 5:38And people said This is why we need to cancel the World
- 5:41Baseball Classic, as if that's the only time that guys get
- 5:44hurt. Yeah, I know.
- 5:46Crazy. But you're a huge Edwin Diaz.
- 5:51You're a huge Timmy Trumpets, huge Mets guy.
- 5:54Where's your Where's your panic meter with Edwin Diaz?
- 5:58We were talking this year or last year because he's washed.
- 6:05I'm out. I was out last year.
- 6:07I'm still out. I I think if we were to go back
- 6:11to the trumpets and set a date, I'm wondering what ERA looks
- 6:17like from there. I don't know what that specific
- 6:20date is. Let's dig around.
- 6:22Are you saying like when the trumpets made their debut?
- 6:24I don't know. I don't know what that specific
- 6:26date is, but I can tell you that it was like.
- 6:29Well, let's, let's talk, let's talk this through because I, I
- 6:31may be able to figure this out on on the fly here.
- 6:34Are we saying when the first walk out was debuted or when
- 6:38Timmy Trumpets made his official appearance to the park?
- 6:41Because I think those were. I think we're talking 2 separate
- 6:44dates here. I'll take Timmy trumpets.
- 6:48Timmy trumpets, OK. I think that's a safe because it
- 6:50like solidifies what this is. Look, I'm not a hater on the
- 6:55walkout. I'm not a hater on having fun.
- 6:59I'm not a hater on closers having entrance songs.
- 7:04That was 2022. What's happening was three years
- 7:12ago 2. 2/23/24 No Guy 2022 That's is that four years ago?
- 7:22Is that how math works? No, I don't think you can count
- 7:25this year yet because the year hasn't been completed.
- 7:28Well, the I mean the season. I'm just going 5 - 2. 2022
- 7:33season, 2023 season, 2024 season 20.
- 7:36We're in the 2025 season, so that's almost four years.
- 7:39Is that how that works? I don't.
- 7:40That's crazy. That doesn't add up.
- 7:42I don't think that's accurate. That's when he really came out.
- 7:46I just, I just counted on my on my fingers.
- 7:50I hate that. Doesn't make me feel any
- 7:52younger, I know. Alright, well then maybe that
- 7:54date doesn't go as far back, but here's my thing dude.
- 7:57Like I the reason I asked about when he got pulled because
- 8:02Monday against the Phillies comes in in A51 ball game and
- 8:09barely sneaks out of there with A5 four save.
- 8:13We were on the call when when that game was going on.
- 8:15If I were if I if I recall. I'm like, what?
- 8:22What are we? He's washed.
- 8:25I don't know what else to say. I don't think he's very good.
- 8:31I think he's lost his stuff. I think it also, I think it also
- 8:38really, truly, genuinely sheds light on the closer role being
- 8:50probably one of the three hardest roles in the entire.
- 8:54Game, it's so volatile like it's it's in more more now than ever.
- 9:00I feel like to your point, it's it's crazy how hard pressed you
- 9:04are to find the closer that that is consistent year to year.
- 9:09I mean, maybe with the exception of a couple guys, so one or two
- 9:13of which are in this conversation we're having right
- 9:16now of not being consistent. Sure, but I mean like, that's
- 9:19that's why we have these names. Like, that's why you have MO,
- 9:22that's why you have Trevor Hoffman, that's why you have Joe
- 9:25Nathan. You, you have like a group of.
- 9:30Craig Kimbrel to a point. 7 to 10 names, even Craig Kimbrel.
- 9:33Like look, I don't miss Geraldo Chapman at all.
- 9:37He's looking good so far for Boston this year.
- 9:39But like I think we got to put some respect on the overall
- 9:42career that Geraldo Chapman has had all the the off the field
- 9:46stuff different different conversation, blown saves,
- 9:52smiling after a walk off home run.
- 9:54Like all of that stuff put aside.
- 9:57If we look at like the straight numbers of Geraldo Chapman, it's
- 10:00like he's going to be remembered as one of the most dominant
- 10:07closers of all time. And that's with all of this
- 10:09stuff. That's with all of all of these
- 10:11different jerseys that he's worn over the last few years, right?
- 10:15Like, it just shows how hard this position is.
- 10:18And that's where I going back to Edwin Diaz, That's where I
- 10:22started to struggle. When it becomes such a show and
- 10:30there and there's such a production and it's so
- 10:33manufactured, when in reality you haven't done it that long,
- 10:42I'm not surprised. Baseball gods are like, yeah,
- 10:47you're about done. You're you're washed.
- 10:50Well, I, I let me. Get out ahead of you.
- 10:53You're optimistic, so feel. Free to throw that out.
- 10:56I don't want you. I don't want you to say
- 10:58something that's going to come back.
- 11:00Somebody's going to have not that you care.
- 11:02But I don't care. I, I know I don't want anything.
- 11:07I'm trying to save save you from saying something about Edwin
- 11:11Diaz that's going to not age all that well because and I say that
- 11:16because like I mentioned, 2 two or three ish rough, rough
- 11:23outings for April 9th, April 11th, 5 appearances since then.
- 11:33Am I, am I seeing this? No, not not since then, but over
- 11:36his last five games rather, he's thrown 5 and a third.
- 11:39He's only given up 1 earned run, two hits, two walks and he's had
- 11:4510 strikeouts. Hitters are slashing 118 two
- 11:5011294 against. So again, as a whole, numbers
- 11:56don't look great on the air, but the sample size is only 11
- 11:59games. But again, that's all we have to
- 12:00go off of. But even more so, recency plays
- 12:05into has has some effects here. He's looked he's looked like he
- 12:10he looks like he's righted the ship.
- 12:12So maybe not. I don't think he lives up to the
- 12:18hype. I don't think he's bad.
- 12:23I just don't think he is an elite closer.
- 12:29I don't I don't feel comfortable putting him in that category.
- 12:33And that the Timmy trumpets the walkout like the production, the
- 12:38attention almost requires you to be elite in my mind.
- 12:46Does that make sense? All of that.
- 12:49I would, I would agree with you if you said that maybe two or
- 12:53three years ago, but with almost, we talked about the
- 12:56closer entrances and everything having with that.
- 12:58Yeah, with that becoming more commonplace, it's less of a, a
- 13:01factor for me. Maybe, maybe not others, maybe
- 13:04not for you, but for me it's less of a thing.
- 13:06But I I I understand what you're saying.
- 13:08I just, yeah, I I think that's where the disconnect is for me
- 13:12and it and it's purely just the gut thing.
- 13:15It's not numbers. I, I don't know, the Mets are
- 13:19cognitive anomaly right now as far as the pitching goes anyway,
- 13:23we're. Going to get into that.
- 13:25So, you know, I, I, I could be eating my words here in a couple
- 13:32months, but overall, like I, I do think it's going to come back
- 13:34down to earth a little bit. And at the same time, I just I
- 13:38don't know, man, like closers are mentally just a little
- 13:44different. It's just a little different.
- 13:47And I get that there can be this buy in with the team.
- 13:50Hey, we snuck out a dub, barely got out with the with a win
- 13:55there. Like that kind of thing that
- 13:58feels like AW in the win column, but like in the column of the
- 14:01closer that don't sit the same way.
- 14:04And that's what makes those guys, the elite ones, just so
- 14:08different. It's a good point.
- 14:11Let's hop across town Yankees closer Devin Williams.
- 14:18I think with with Diaz, it's a thing like I mentioned a couple
- 14:24couple rough goes. But with Devin Williams, I
- 14:27correct me if I'm wrong, but it just seems it just seems like
- 14:31actually not good right now. It's not just a sample size
- 14:36issue. It's just he doesn't have the
- 14:38stuff right now. It has.
- 14:40It didn't look good in spring training.
- 14:41It does not look good at all to the start of the regular season.
- 14:46He came out with some semi questionable quotes few days ago
- 14:51talking about there's a little jab about maybe throwing his
- 14:55change up too much and that we need to work on that.
- 15:00Who's this coming from? Devin the media.
- 15:03No, it's a there's a sound bite out there.
- 15:05Oh, oh, like like collectively as a team, the Yankees we need
- 15:10to like work on I got. You he's, he's like kind of lost
- 15:13for words. He goes, I don't know, I think
- 15:16maybe we're using the change up too much and we need to address
- 15:19that, something like that. Keep that behind closed doors
- 15:22like. Yeah, what are we doing?
- 15:23And that's, you know, those are probably conversations that
- 15:27someone's going to have with him.
- 15:29Probably judge, probably front office, I don't know.
- 15:32But let's face it, like, this is like a big factor that fans
- 15:38don't think of is that pitching philosophies don't always align.
- 15:44And that's why you have names that are with organizations that
- 15:49just don't do anything. And all of a sudden they get to
- 15:51and they land with one pitcher, coach or one organization.
- 15:54And then all of a sudden stuff gets figured out.
- 15:57A lot like the Yankees last closer Clay Holmes, right?
- 16:00He's a nobody with the Pirates. All of a sudden they see
- 16:03something in his metrics and they're like, let's just bear
- 16:06down on this sinker and let's use this, this, this, this.
- 16:10And then he had success and he started to become a household
- 16:13name, right? It's hard to say.
- 16:16It's hard to say. Devin Williams, one place for so
- 16:21long, not a whole lot of spotlight in Milwaukee, didn't
- 16:27have a the best taste in his mouth at the end of last season
- 16:32'cause we saw how his season ended.
- 16:33Bro did did Pete Alonzo break Devin Williams?
- 16:37That's it. That's a valid question.
- 16:40It's a valid question. So it's interesting.
- 16:45It really is. It's interesting to, I'm
- 16:47wondering, I don't know, I think what's great about this move is
- 16:55the fact that Luke Weaver is there and that we've obviously
- 17:00seen him take up that role and and do it well.
- 17:04But there's philosophies, man. And just like sometimes it
- 17:06doesn't align and Boone is very big on like these weird out
- 17:13alignments. A lot of times it's like, I'm
- 17:16going to bring you in to get one out the in the 8th and then come
- 17:19back out for the 9th. I'm going to bring you in with
- 17:21guys on and there's certain pitchers that do well with that
- 17:25and they're certain certain that don't.
- 17:27And so I don't know if there's enough sample size to go off of
- 17:30here, but so far, yeah, it has looked awful, awful.
- 17:36You mentioned Luke Weaver and I'm I'm 90 to 95% sure I said
- 17:41this when the Yankees brought in Devin Williams.
- 17:45But I look, I'm not going to say no.
- 17:48Like if my team's like, hey, let's go out and get Devin
- 17:50Williams. I'm not going to be like, no,
- 17:51let's what, let's keep it in house.
- 17:53Let's work with what we've got. Like, yeah, I'll take sure, I'll
- 17:55take Devin Williams, but I I hate to say it, I really liked
- 18:00what I saw from Luke Weaver last year.
- 18:03I feel like he's got the I mean, not the not the quirkiness is a
- 18:08requirement to be a closer, but it it helps and he's.
- 18:12Definitely got that. He's got.
- 18:13That like a lot of confidence. Yeah.
- 18:17But it's it, it doesn't, it doesn't come out in the
- 18:21traditional way. It's kind of it's like it.
- 18:23It's like weird. He's like a weird cool kid.
- 18:25Yeah, I don't want to say quiet confidence that 'cause I don't
- 18:28think that applies here, but it's yeah, you're right.
- 18:30He's got like a confidence that you you definitely see and that
- 18:33plays in in that kind of role. And the fact that he was able to
- 18:37succeed in that market speaks volumes.
- 18:41But I to your point, I think it's good that they've got him
- 18:46like they've got a possible backup situation in Luke Weaver.
- 18:50They don't have to look very far to to find that.
- 18:54And that's, that's like my biggest concern with what the
- 18:58Yankees do. And my, my biggest concern is
- 19:01that like, how much of this is going to be forced because of
- 19:05Cashman making this move because of it being a rental versus
- 19:10Boone just saying, hey, it's just a rental.
- 19:13We don't have to prove anything to this guy.
- 19:16Like if, if he wants a role, he needs to perform.
- 19:19And if he's if he sucks this year, then we let him walk in
- 19:23the offseason. Like we don't lose anything.
- 19:26So we might as well get the best version out of him.
- 19:29But again, what Boone likes to do with bringing in inning and a
- 19:34half ending in the third type guys, Luke Weaver thrives in
- 19:37that to get out of a jam come like it'll it'll mop up a 7th,
- 19:41come in close out the 8th and then Devin Williams will come in
- 19:45the 9th. So like in reality, it'd be
- 19:48great if someone stepped into that 6th inning role.
- 19:51Fernando Cruz looks really good by the way.
- 19:54That guy's a stud. So he's the one that they got
- 19:57from the Reds. So I could see maybe a little
- 20:04something with that someday, but I don't know.
- 20:07What we do know about Devin Williams right now, Average
- 20:10Velo, average fastball Velo is down.
- 20:14Pitches in the zone is up. His his swing and miss stuff is
- 20:24down. Swinging strike, Yeah, swinging
- 20:28strike rate down. Not getting as many chases, just
- 20:37not not what we've seen from him in years past.
- 20:42Giving up, giving up more solid contact is just not what we
- 20:46think of when we think of Devin Williams.
- 20:48And I don't I mean you're you're the Yankee guy.
- 20:50I don't know what the what the panic meter as is that with this
- 20:53guy. But like I said, even a guy like
- 20:57Edwin Diaz, who you're kind of out on anyway, I feel like the
- 21:02panic meter isn't as high for him given the again, couple
- 21:08couple starts here there that really ballooned up his numbers.
- 21:10But it just doesn't seem like Devin Williams like has it right
- 21:15now. So I don't.
- 21:16I would almost argue that this is more concerning than an Edwin
- 21:20Diaz situation. Oh, I agree.
- 21:23I agree. And the fact that like again
- 21:25Edwin Diaz has been like established in New York market
- 21:28whereas Devin Williams hasn't. So that's an added factor.
- 21:31I agree pentameter is pretty high.
- 21:34I mean only a year right now. 99 outings for Devin Williams in
- 21:39the RA of 788. He's got a WHIP of 2125.
- 21:44That's not good. Only 8 strikeouts that's.
- 21:47Not good. That's not good.
- 21:48Another guy that's been struggling mightily.
- 21:53Very comparable numbers actually.
- 21:55Like almost identical Emmanuel Class A on the years got a 784
- 22:02to Devin Williams, 788. His whip is 2.226 to Devin
- 22:07Williams actually lower 2125. And again, these numbers that
- 22:14we're sharing this is coming into Thursday.
- 22:16So I don't, I don't know who of these, who of these names are
- 22:22even playing today. Not a lot of games today so.
- 22:25Yeah, it wasn't. Wasn't too many.
- 22:27This is coming into Thursday not and not to mention Class A's
- 22:34case per 97.8, the word, his ERA, his whip, and his strikeout
- 22:40per nine worst marks in his career across the board.
- 22:45So another situation where it just doesn't have it.
- 22:50And I, I almost want to say that I feel like Class A is getting
- 22:54the most, I don't say he, but like most, like the brunt of the
- 23:01conversation, most of the, the brunt of the discussion
- 23:05surrounding these, these back end guys that have been
- 23:07struggling. And for good reason I guess,
- 23:09because there for how long he was the most dominant 9th inning
- 23:15guy in in baseball at least. Talk about. 2/3 plus years.
- 23:23Well, I mean, talk about playoff home runs that could break them.
- 23:29You know what Pete Alonso did to Devin Williams, what Stanton
- 23:32Judge did to Class A and. Not to mention, was that
- 23:39Detroit? Was that Carrie Carpenter?
- 23:43Was that who that was in the Detroit series?
- 23:47He got after him twice, didn't he?
- 23:51Yeah, I think he did. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:54I think he was. It was either Carpenter or Riley
- 23:58Green, I can't remember. But I think it was Carrie.
- 24:00Carpenter, I think it was too. Yeah, man, I, I don't know, I
- 24:06mean, like luckily similar sentiment that like the Yankees
- 24:10have Luke Weaver as a fall back, like Kate Smith.
- 24:15I, I, I was in the camp then I'll, I'll bring this back up
- 24:18because this could be, these could be words that I eat later
- 24:21down the road. I think Cleveland has the best
- 24:26bullpen in baseball. And I said that during a hot
- 24:31takes episode because Class A and Kate Smith got Cy Young
- 24:38votes last year, 2 relievers and now we're seeing Kate Smith just
- 24:43like step into this role. No problem.
- 24:45Do what he needs to do and he's closed down games.
- 24:48So that's good. That's a good safety net, but
- 24:50like. Well, he's dealing with
- 24:54something too, which I feel like is kind of yeah.
- 24:57He's like shoulders comfort. This this tweet from Zach Misel.
- 25:03He said when asked Tuesday night if I may know Class A was
- 25:06healthy, Stephen Vogt said yes, but that the club wanted to give
- 25:08him a second straight day off today, meaning yesterday,
- 25:13Wednesday, today. Vogt revealed Class A had
- 25:15shoulder discomfort after his outing Sunday.
- 25:17Played catch today and his availability is TPD.
- 25:22So not what you want to hear. But I mean, I, I, I guess it's
- 25:27mildly comforting to know that maybe some of the issues he's
- 25:31been dealing with is, is directly correlated or directly
- 25:35tied to, to this issue. And that maybe once he gets back
- 25:41as close to 100% as he can on the fly, that maybe we, we get
- 25:45back to vintage Class A. But tell you what man, between
- 25:49these three guys not. It's it's hard to manage.
- 25:52It's really hard to manage because you don't know like do
- 25:55you, if you bring them out of that role, is their confidence
- 25:58gone forever? If you, if you bring them in in
- 26:02a non save situation, can you expect the same intensity?
- 26:07If they give up runs in that situation, does it rock their
- 26:09confidence even more? Or do you continue to put them
- 26:12in save situations and you consider to see them blow saves?
- 26:15There's like no right answer. It's just each guy is different.
- 26:21This is where I'd be really grateful if my manager was a
- 26:23former catcher and a manager of the year.
- 26:27Stephen Vogt knows what he's doing and they're going to be
- 26:30fine. I just, I'd be a little nervous.
- 26:34I panic meter. I'm going to go Devin Williams,
- 26:37panic, panic. Give me give me you out of 1010
- 26:40being the highest. Give me your panic meter for
- 26:42each guy. Each of these three.
- 26:46I I'm at a 79 for Devin Williams, which is pretty high
- 26:52for we're not even in May. I'm at a I'm at a 7/1 for Edwin
- 27:02Diaz, then I'm at like a 6/4. OK, for Class A, yeah, I was
- 27:10going to say closer to the middle on class AIII mean you
- 27:14can't beat that. I mean, I like I said, I know
- 27:17the closer position is so hit or miss.
- 27:20It can be so wish washy, but you you're not the best closer in
- 27:24baseball for consecutive year, like consecutive years and then
- 27:30just have this bad of a fall off.
- 27:31He's just off to a slow start. I'm not concerned in the least
- 27:35for Class A long term. We had, we did have a chat
- 27:37comment earlier and it was a really good point is that like
- 27:40you don't, you just don't see longevity out of these roles
- 27:43like four or five years is like. Impressive, which really makes
- 27:48what Mariano did. I mean, Mike, how do you how do
- 27:52you do that? That's.
- 27:53Crazy with like 1 main pitch. That's that's that's impressive.
- 28:00It's impressive, yeah. But but we already know this.
- 28:03This is we already know how dominant MO was.
- 28:07Speaking of dominance, let's talk about these Mets.
- 28:09The best in baseball, the best in all of baseball.
- 28:14New York Mets 18 and 7 coming into Thursday.
- 28:18Best record in baseball, fresh off a sweep of the Phillies,
- 28:23went seven and O on their home stands.
- 28:29By the way, the Mets are crushing at Citi Field.
- 28:33Yeah, 12:00 and 1:00. 12:00 and 1:00 at home to start the year.
- 28:37Best home start in franchise history.
- 28:42I'm can I just be honest? I'm really tempted to say we
- 28:46know how this story ends, but I've said that the last last
- 28:51year or two and sure, it it didn't result in a World Series,
- 28:56but that's kind of a cop out for me to be like, well, we know how
- 28:59the story ends when the odds are already slim to be what the the
- 29:03last team standing. And I understand that.
- 29:06So I mean, I don't really know what my barrier or like what I
- 29:10what I chalk up as a failure of a season for the Mets really.
- 29:14I mean, I guess missing the postseason, but I can't really
- 29:23say anything right now because they're they're just playing out
- 29:25of their minds. So as as like sound bitey as it
- 29:30might be for me to say, well, we know how the story ends.
- 29:32Mets are going to met like they always do.
- 29:34I've I've said I said that last year and I'm pretty sure I said
- 29:37that the year before. And you know, they're the
- 29:45results are I guess better at the end of the when it when it
- 29:49comes time to to really look at how the season went.
- 29:53Maybe then I had predicted it would go, but I I don't know.
- 29:58It's it's a I'm. On the fence, too.
- 30:00It's a yeah, it's a confusing situation.
- 30:03I'm on the fence because like on one side, and I, I say this
- 30:10because I say this with a grain of salt, that grain of salt is
- 30:17like you're supposed to beat these teams.
- 30:19But they've had the Marlins twice, had the Blue Jays, had
- 30:23the Twins, they've had the Cardinals.
- 30:26So like again, you, you're supposed to beat these teams.
- 30:30We can't hold that against them. Their pitching looks really
- 30:40good, but like, is that going to last the whole year?
- 30:47Well, say what you will about Frankie Montes, I'm not I'm I
- 30:51could go either way, whatever. But Sean and I are still being
- 30:54on the IL is is certainly a a factor here and it's something
- 30:59that. Gene Holmes looks good, but
- 31:01like, you've got to assume there's an innings limit at some
- 31:04point. Not I don't know if there's a
- 31:05limit that they've come out and said they're going to have for
- 31:08him, but you're just going to reach a certain point in innings
- 31:12where he's going to get tired. Sanga good.
- 31:18We know that. He's a great.
- 31:20Yeah, we know that. Tyler McGill over performing?
- 31:26Or is this Tyler McGill? Like I don't know.
- 31:28I don't know man, that's now that's an interesting case
- 31:30because I mean he's he's been around the he's been around the
- 31:35block a few Times Now. He's been in the league for, for
- 31:37a good little bit, it seems, and he's had his moments like he's
- 31:41had. And I, and I say I laugh because
- 31:44I, I, I feel like I know this strictly from like a fantasy
- 31:47perspective, because I've, I feel like that's a name that
- 31:50I've like tinkered with adding, adding for.
- 31:53But this, but this was like year, this was like seasons ago.
- 31:57So it tells me that there's something there.
- 31:59He just had it's a matter of consistency with him and that I
- 32:02mean, that's that's the case with everybody obviously, but.
- 32:05That's what I'm saying. I'm on the fence and like at the
- 32:07same time, like you haven't even gotten like full swing Soto yet.
- 32:15That's what he hasn't. He hasn't really hit his stride
- 32:17yet. Lindor.
- 32:19Looks good. You haven't gotten anything from
- 32:21the outfield, Brandon Nemo's been been bad.
- 32:26So like you said, Soto's been. Pete, Pete hitting what, 340
- 32:30something right now? Like that's crazy.
- 32:33But like, you got to assume that's going to come down.
- 32:37It's like a career 280 hitter. Yeah, but I think impact as a
- 32:41whole you can assume is going to not fall too far from where it's
- 32:45at. He'll he'll figure out other
- 32:47ways. He's still going to head for
- 32:48power. He's still he's going to drive
- 32:50in runs. He's still going to hit 30, he's
- 32:51still going to pop 30, he's still going to score.
- 32:56He's still probably going to drive in at least 90 like I I
- 32:59don't think. And now with Soto, you can bump
- 33:01that up over 100 like I, I he's very much a 3100 guy.
- 33:06I don't disagree. I'm just, I'm on the fence.
- 33:10There's just seen and I'm not, I'm not talking like end of
- 33:12season outlook here, but for maybe we'll we'll just call it
- 33:16like the midway point if they can sort of keep up what they're
- 33:21doing for, for the next few weeks or next.
- 33:25We'll just say next couple weeks and then you start to get some
- 33:29some more production out of these guys like a Soto, like a
- 33:33Nimmo and maybe Pete cools off a little bit.
- 33:38You're going to it. It's a classic baseball scenario
- 33:41where you know you got you got this half of the line up or or
- 33:46this group of guys carrying the weight and then.
- 33:49Rare that the whole lineup is looking at once.
- 33:51Right. And when they finally, when that
- 33:54finally gives way, it's going to flip flop, you're going to have
- 33:56Soto just tearing the cover off the ball 'cause you know that
- 33:59that's coming and that's going to I think that's going to spark
- 34:02the rest of the line up in some way, shape or form.
- 34:04So. I agree and we've talked about
- 34:06it all the time. Like it, you got to load up
- 34:09wins, man. Like you just got to store all
- 34:11these wins up. There's going to be a little bit
- 34:14of a regress at some point. I've just, I don't know, I'm
- 34:20worried about how much of a fall it would be because like,
- 34:26everyone and their mother has come into this season saying the
- 34:29Mets pitching does not look deep enough to do what they did last
- 34:33year. I think they're overachieving at
- 34:36the moment. But like, it's, I, I don't see
- 34:41everyone being wrong about that. I think there's going to be a
- 34:45big regression in the pitching department.
- 34:47I think they're going to continue to hit and you again,
- 34:50you'll have guys that show up in a Nimmo and in a Soto.
- 34:55Like that's going to happen. They're going to be fine.
- 34:57I think, you know, I, I probably have a little nervous about
- 35:01Vientos. Francisco Alvarez is like right
- 35:04around the corner from coming back.
- 35:06He's going through rehab starts so like.
- 35:09Mets got the lowest team ERA in baseball, 234.
- 35:13Let's be real, is that? Eighth lowest whip.
- 35:17Is that their story? Is that what they're going to be
- 35:19this year? Like it?
- 35:21I don't even think a Met fan would die on that hill.
- 35:24Third most strikeouts in baseball as a staff 23239
- 35:29Dodgers coming in at 242 and 2nd and the Phillies with 246 and
- 35:331st I. Don't know that's a.
- 35:37Good point, though, that's a good point is like is that is
- 35:41this going to be a situation where that comes down to earth?
- 35:45It ends up being a situation where they end up being what we
- 35:48thought they would from a pitching point of view.
- 35:50Or is this a situation where you've got a team that sort of
- 35:55leans into that a little bit and says, all right, and you know,
- 35:58got the classic bulletin board material.
- 36:00They ride that wave as best they can throughout the course of the
- 36:03season. And we are looking at a team
- 36:05that's got one of the better Staffs in baseball when it's all
- 36:08said and done it at the end of the year.
- 36:10I'm and I'm interested to see if Soto's going to start having fun
- 36:15because it just doesn't look like he's having a lot of fun
- 36:17right now. It doesn't look like.
- 36:19It doesn't, no. Like for a guy that's very
- 36:22charismatic in the way he plays it, it just doesn't look like
- 36:26he's that's fun. I don't know, Look, I said that
- 36:34about Lindor too, by the way, because he was Mr. Smile in
- 36:37Cleveland. And then it took a little while
- 36:38to kind of like. Yeah, but then who was it?
- 36:42I, I, I saw or read recently that, forgive me, I'm forgetting
- 36:47which I think it was one of the coaches basically called him out
- 36:51and was like, dude, you've been kind of a no show.
- 36:53And he talked about, I read how it, it sort of was a wake up
- 36:57call for him. He's like, I need to like, I
- 37:00need to lock in, like I need to like, like, enjoy what I'm
- 37:03doing. I need to like get back to the
- 37:05way I played the game. And I'm sure part of that was
- 37:08getting back to him, like having fun.
- 37:10Because to your point, Mr. Smile, that's what he was known
- 37:12for. And that's when he was at his
- 37:14best, when he was just going out there and having a grand old
- 37:17time. He he, he wasn't doing that to
- 37:21start the year. And I think it showed.
- 37:23But now he's been that guy's been dialed in, dialed in.
- 37:29You just wonder if like, there's a lot, a lot of things are
- 37:35different for Juan Soto right now.
- 37:38So I'm just, I think it'll be fine.
- 37:40I think he's going to hit. Just kind of worried about, I
- 37:45don't know, weird comments so far.
- 37:48Slow start. Like, I don't know this.
- 37:50This is what puts me on the fence about the Mets.
- 37:52I just don't know. Dude, do you have MLB Network on
- 37:56right now? No surprisingly, TV blank.
- 38:00What do we got? What just happened on this Wyatt
- 38:04Langford play in left field? Dude lost the ball.
- 38:08They're in. They're in Sacramento, which
- 38:13speaks probably to the lack of visibility above a certain above
- 38:18a certain point. But that look, Oh my goodness.
- 38:22Oh good. That looked ugly.
- 38:25Poor guy bro, he's just not out of the ball so.
- 38:28Yeah, they'll probably, I mean, the Groms on the bump, they'll
- 38:31probably, they'll probably be fine anyway.
- 38:35All right, let's let's get into it Nate, let's blast let's blast
- 38:44some credit. The credit cannon makes its
- 38:46return. I'm excited to start with this
- 38:53guy 'cause I'll be honest with you, I don't think I was.
- 38:59It took a lot for me to come around on this guy and I'm
- 39:02hoping that it for his sake and for the team's sake, I'm hoping
- 39:05it it it keeps up. But let's let's show some love
- 39:11to Pete Crow Armstrong. Pete Crow Armstrong according to
- 39:16Optistat, so far this year for the Cubs, 5 homers, 10 stolen
- 39:21bases, 15 extra base hits. He's the first player in MLB
- 39:26history to reach those marks before the end of April.
- 39:30According to MLB Deadline News on Twitter, Pete Crow's
- 39:33Armstrong 162 game pace 31 homers 105 RB is 130 runs
- 39:42scored, 62 swipes and 11.2 F 4. Cubs are going right now, dude.
- 39:50And not to mention five homers on the year, 4 of which being
- 39:55against the Dodgers. Cubs look good.
- 40:01Cubs look good. Real good.
- 40:03And everyone seems to be playing good ball and it's like, it
- 40:09seems like a good fit. You like you like to see guys
- 40:13just being able to be themselves.
- 40:15And he is for sure just being himself, man.
- 40:18He's a fan favorite. They're playing good ball.
- 40:24And I've said this before, but like, if you can have a good
- 40:29April in Chicago offensively and not have to dig out of a hole,
- 40:36and when summer hits and the wind starts blowing out, like I
- 40:41know you just routed off those 162 numbers, but like, I don't
- 40:45think they're crazy. This kids are freaking stud,
- 40:49man. There's a reason why they moved
- 40:51on from Bellinger. It's good point this.
- 40:55Kids are stud. And what you were saying about
- 40:57the Mets stacking wins early, same concept applies here for
- 41:02pre Pete Crowe Armstrong in stacking this production that
- 41:07he's that he's been putting forth thus far.
- 41:10Because to your point, it's ugly in Chicago in in April.
- 41:14Like nobody, nobody wants to be in Chicago in April.
- 41:18Yeah, I mean, there's probably some people that never want to
- 41:19be in Chicago anyway. But to my point.
- 41:22Look, This is why I said this and, and I don't know, I didn't
- 41:25read the chat, but I don't know how you felt when we were
- 41:27talking about WBC and Team USA. And I was like, let's just have
- 41:32fun and throw this guy's name out there.
- 41:34Talk about a guy who will impact a baseball game somehow,
- 41:41someway. Elite defense, elite speed.
- 41:45He's going to find a way to impact the game.
- 41:48You can't bottle him up. And there's only so many names
- 41:52you can categorize. You have a Corbin Carroll.
- 41:55You have an Ellie De la Cruz. You have an O'Neal Cruz.
- 41:59Bobby Wood, Junior. You have a Bobby Wood Junior.
- 42:03Am I missing anybody? That's about right.
- 42:05As far as like 5. I want.
- 42:08I don't want to go crazy as five tools, but as long as yeah, like
- 42:13there's guys that you just you can't bottle up.
- 42:16What was that? You can't.
- 42:18Screw just fell out of my chair. You can't.
- 42:21The dude's about to fall. Yikes.
- 42:23He's about to fall to the ground.
- 42:24Love it you. Can't bottle these guys up, man.
- 42:26Like they're they're going to impact the game somehow, some
- 42:30way. I like this kid a lot and I like
- 42:36that. Like there's something about
- 42:40like a Craig Council who just looks as as strict and white
- 42:46bread boring baseball mentality as you could ever guess.
- 42:51But he somehow has these names that are a little bit more
- 42:54charismatic. And you look at the rest of this
- 42:56team of like a stoic Kyle Tucker and like a winner in Dansby
- 43:01Swanson. And you just you have like these
- 43:05names that like, say, a Suzuki seems to be like finally
- 43:08settling into American baseball. Like you have these, this mix
- 43:13and just everything seems to be going right.
- 43:15And then I know central isn't that impressive.
- 43:18I I think it's them and the Brewers and I think there's a
- 43:20huge gap between the rest. The Brewers look pretty decent
- 43:25too. But like anyway, back to BCA
- 43:28deserves the canons great start. Put him, put him in the Corbin
- 43:34Carroll category. When you saw Corbin Carroll his
- 43:37rookie year, I think it's going to be very similar.
- 43:40For the record, I'm not writing off the Reds just yet.
- 43:43I, I, I feel like I gave them their, their pre season props
- 43:46and I, I'm not willing to eat that this early in the year.
- 43:50I mean, they're only a game under 500.
- 43:52So it's. Fair.
- 43:54There's a lot of mediocrity in baseball right now.
- 43:56Let's just call a spade a spade. Like there really is.
- 43:59There really is. Not entirely across the board.
- 44:02But yeah, could be a good bit of mediocrity around.
- 44:06Fair enough around baseball. Pull that trigger guy who's.
- 44:10Trying to bust out of mediocrity.
- 44:13Dylan Cruz, after being the last qualified hitter in all of Major
- 44:22League Baseball to record a hit to start the year, is now in the
- 44:28midst of an 8 game hitting streak.
- 44:30And let me actually check. Did they?
- 44:32I don't know. Did they play today?
- 44:34They played today. Stand by, they beat the
- 44:41Nationals or excuse me, sorry, the Orioles beat the Nationals.
- 44:45But let's see if he bumped it up to 9.
- 44:51He he broke it at at 8. Still credit to Dylan Cruz. 8
- 44:57game hitting streak. During that streak, had a 33
- 45:00homers, 5 ribbies, 3 swipes, only one strikeout, an OPS of
- 45:0510/22. So you love this.
- 45:09You love to see that he managed to walk in there as well, if I
- 45:13didn't mention that. But I this is this is all you
- 45:17need. You.
- 45:18I mean, you're not going to be. Well, what did I say he had?
- 45:22Yeah. I mean, he had three home runs.
- 45:23But I, I mean, I was going to say like, you don't have to be
- 45:26jacking him out every single night to, to get back on track.
- 45:29And a guy like Dylan Cruz who's going to hit for average, just
- 45:34needed to string together a nice little 8 game hitting streak.
- 45:36And I'd, I think hopefully for his sake, he's going to be back
- 45:40on track 'cause that's a guy that I'm excited about.
- 45:43Should be, should be, yeah. I don't, I don't know if power
- 45:47is necessarily going to be his, his style, his game, especially
- 45:51in that ballpark. So he needs to figure out how to
- 45:54walk more and figure figure out how to get on base and, you
- 45:57know, impact with speed and hit for average.
- 46:01That's just got to be his game. So it's important for guys like
- 46:05this to at least have something to salvage by the end of the
- 46:10month he's at he's hitting 188. That's how rough of a start he
- 46:13had. So even after this hit streak,
- 46:15he's still hitting 188. You'd like you'd like to see
- 46:18this guy get over like if you can get over 200 once the
- 46:23calendar flips to may like that, that feels like it's
- 46:27salvageable. If you see a .1 next to the
- 46:31batting average. I know, I know batting average
- 46:33doesn't matter. That does that does when it's
- 46:38one of the biggest numbers up on the scoreboard every time you're
- 46:40walking over the box that matters.
- 46:42So I hope you can salvage it. Flip the calendar, keep this
- 46:46going, build some confidence. It's a reason he's the number
- 46:50two overall pick. Man, he's good.
- 46:54It's a hot take in the chat. Nationals will do the same thing
- 46:56with Caruso they did with Soto at I'm going to choose to be
- 47:02positive with the nationals. Like at some point they're going
- 47:06to have to figure out that they can't just they can't become
- 47:10what the pirates are to baseball, just like the 29, the
- 47:14a minor league or like a, a, a funnel system for the rest of
- 47:19the league, like a feeder system.
- 47:21You can't, you can't survive that way.
- 47:25And I hope they, I hope they come to terms with that.
- 47:27I hope they wake up to that reality.
- 47:28I I hope that they start giving legitimate contract offers and
- 47:33stop giving jokes of offers that are either way too late in in
- 47:40the process or way underpriced and and undervaluing that
- 47:45talent. Is there another guy in that
- 47:48outfield, you know, another young kid that you would like to
- 47:50see them maybe give a contract to trying to cover off the ball
- 47:56right now? She has a similar name with
- 47:58Tiger. Yeah, remind me.
- 48:03Sir, Sir King James Wood. James Wood James Wood absolutely
- 48:11mashing the baseball right now. He's got 8 homers on the year,
- 48:17which Can you help me make sense of this?
- 48:22I'm, I'm not great with numbers. I mean, I'm good with numbers,
- 48:26but stuff like this confuses me. All right, so you've got Corbin
- 48:29Carroll. As of right now, this moment,
- 48:31you've got Corbin Carroll, Cal Raleigh, Tyler Soderstrom with
- 48:35nine home runs. OK.
- 48:37It all says we're. Going to put that group
- 48:39together. By the way, that's a.
- 48:40Great point, I just read that off as if that was completely
- 48:44normal, but. Ridiculous.
- 48:46Names stop and think one time. Corwin.
- 48:48My goodness. Love baseball, so they're tied
- 48:51for first. Makes sense?
- 48:53Yeah. Tommy Edmund OK, I guess this
- 48:57makes sense. Tommy Edmund, Fernando Tatis,
- 48:59Mike Trout and James Wood have 8:00 and it's saying James Wood
- 49:06is tied for fourth. And that's seven guys I guess it
- 49:12makes. Sense if they have the same
- 49:17number. In my mind there, he's just
- 49:20tied. He's tied for second most in the
- 49:22league. That's how that that's how my
- 49:24brain works. I know that probably isn't
- 49:26right, but he if you have 8 and the leader and the three leaders
- 49:30have 9, aren't you just tied for the second most?
- 49:35I don't. That's whatever.
- 49:36Don't. Yes, don't listen to me.
- 49:38No, you're right. I.
- 49:39Clearly, clearly I should have went to school.
- 49:42We can't be tied for second when there's three guys that have 9
- 49:47net. Forget it.
- 49:48Forget I said anything anyway. James Wood, We'll, we'll die on
- 49:54this hill together. It doesn't make sense, but it
- 49:56makes sense to us. James, as long as there's a tie
- 49:59for first place, the rest of the guys will fall for the number of
- 50:05correct people tied at first. Which, whatever, it makes sense,
- 50:09but in my head James Woods tied for a second.
- 50:11Just just go with it, stupid. Just go with it.
- 50:15James Wood James Wood coming into Thursday has an OPS of 12 O
- 50:23eight in seven games again, coming into Thursday as a lead
- 50:26off man, and not to mention has just been mashing for power.
- 50:34And this look, this is I I said this was coming this I'm pretty
- 50:37sure this was one of my guy. And I'm not going to sit here
- 50:40and say like, oh, I found a diamond in the dirt here, but
- 50:44James Wood. Throwback.
- 50:46Throwback how about that James Wood like like I was saying,
- 50:52people know that the talent that this guy that this guy offers,
- 50:56but I think people were on the fence about whether or not we
- 51:00were still a little early to the scene with this guy, but I think
- 51:04he's already shown again in April.
- 51:07Granted, it's little more mild out here in DC than it is in
- 51:11like a Chicago for a Pete Crow Armstrong.
- 51:15But if you can get off to a star like this man and like we talked
- 51:19about, pad those numbers, rack up the homers, rack up the RBIs,
- 51:23whatever it is that you're trying to rack up, if you can do
- 51:25it this early in the season, it sets you.
- 51:28It sets you up real nice for when you hit a little bit of a
- 51:31slide in June. He gives me like.
- 51:42The hands hitting gives me very much, oddly enough.
- 51:45Josh Bell. Yeah, just very tight close to
- 51:48the ear. Yep.
- 51:52And then almost like has like O'Neill Cruz type power and
- 51:59length in like. It just seems kind of
- 52:02effortless. The fast twitch muscles with
- 52:04this guy man like it's it's a sight to behold.
- 52:10I was trying to find. I need to get over there.
- 52:13Watch. The vaunt for metrics, but yeah,
- 52:15no, definitely get over there because that's.
- 52:17I need to watch these two aforementioned names.
- 52:21This kid looks good, man. This kid looks really, really
- 52:23good. You know, that's actually a spot
- 52:27I've been, I've sat just. About I've never been in that
- 52:30ballpark. I've never been.
- 52:32We need to get you out here. It looks great on TVI feel like
- 52:36it's that sentiment isn't shared by.
- 52:39Me, it's when you're in person. It's overrated.
- 52:42It's weird, it's overrated. Don't, I mean, I'll go, 'cause
- 52:46it's the closest, but it's, I mean, it's relatively cookie
- 52:50cutter. So don't, don't get all, all
- 52:53eager to get out of here. But we do still need to get you
- 52:55out here for a game. That'd be fun.
- 52:57No, but what I was saying is I've sat just about everywhere
- 53:00in that park, but I don't think I've sat right there on the left
- 53:06field wall, like right there in those first few rows.
- 53:09That'd be a that'd be a good spot to watch from.
- 53:13Do you like like left field, like literally left field?
- 53:18Or do you? Are you talking like corner foul
- 53:22pole? Area.
- 53:22No, no, like literally like right behind whoever is man in
- 53:26man in the real estate out there, like right behind.
- 53:28I've done that for right when Bryce was in town.
- 53:35I mean you can't really sit in center, like dead center there
- 53:37or any park for that matter. But left, well based on the hit
- 53:43or high situation, I guess we can say, but left at Nats Park,
- 53:49I need to need to make that happen.
- 53:52I like left field. I like left field.
- 53:56I do like being behind, like a superstar outfielder.
- 53:58That's cool too. Speaking of Superstar.
- 54:03Bang. Nick Pavetta.
- 54:08Yeah. Yeah.
- 54:08You didn't expect that name to follow Superstar, but he's
- 54:11pitching like one right now. Dude, have you seen this?
- 54:15The body work that this guy's put up?
- 54:17Fill me in. On the year 4 and one, an ERA of
- 54:231/2 OA WHIP of .7730 KS to just seven walks.
- 54:34Listen to these game logs. First start of the year, 7
- 54:39innings. Granted it was against the the
- 54:40Braves, that didn't really count. 7 innings, 4 KS, no runs,
- 54:50just one hit. Next start was slop.
- 54:55The Next start 7 innings, 10 KS, No Earned runs.
- 55:00Next start 6 innings 1 earned run, 6 KS.
- 55:05The next start Most recent start 7 innings, no earned runs, six
- 55:11KS. From Sammy Levitt on Twitter If
- 55:14you remove Nick Pavetta's start on a frigid day in Chicago
- 55:17against the Cubs. 3 innings, 3 innings, 3 earned runs.
- 55:20Here are the totals from Again, you remove that start.
- 55:23Here are the totals from Pavetta's other four starts of
- 55:26the Padres. He's got a .33 ERA across 27
- 55:32innings. Pitch, 1 earned run or one run,
- 55:3410 hits, 26 KS to four walks. Do we need to talk about the
- 55:43Padres pitching staff? I mean, we have, but it's worth
- 55:49reminding the folks that whatever that whatever's in the
- 55:52water out there in San Diego, at least in the in the pitching
- 55:55side of things, hasn't even really.
- 55:56Got all things going yet? Actually, what I'm saying, what
- 56:00am I saying? Not just the pitching side,
- 56:02they're, I mean they're. They're playing great ball, but
- 56:04like. All around, yeah.
- 56:07You can speak to him more like is is you've seen flashes of
- 56:11Nick Pavetta's success. He will go on runs.
- 56:14I I can't even say like this because I don't know if he's had
- 56:18if he's strung together a, a grouping of starts like this
- 56:23before. I mean, maybe he has, I'd have
- 56:25to go back and look, but I mean, he's, he's pitching lights out
- 56:27right now, but drop it down a notch.
- 56:31He'll go on these runs where he's he's the best pitcher on
- 56:35your staff at any given point in time during during these
- 56:38stretches. And then he can be the worst.
- 56:39Then he can be the worst, giving up home run after home run after
- 56:43home run, putting guys on traffic like no other.
- 56:48Kind of sounds like Carlos Rodon Less less good starts though.
- 56:54The thing I've always loved about Nick Pavetta, though, is I
- 56:58mean, well, minus a couple of sound bites, because I think at
- 57:02one point he got, he got all fussy about his role with the
- 57:07staff versus the pen and and whatever.
- 57:10But he when he's feeling it, dude is dude is like when he
- 57:16when he's on it, he is a bulldog out there.
- 57:20Like he yeah, he he's going to have a sound bites in the locker
- 57:23room after the game, whatever. But when he is when he's dialed
- 57:26in on the mound and he's he's pitching, well, good luck.
- 57:33Good luck. I like that.
- 57:35I like that. I like, I like what San Diego's
- 57:39got going on, man. Like, yeesh.
- 57:45Looks good and just wait for Dylan Sees to start rolling
- 57:49well. Here's an interesting question.
- 57:51Darvish coming back someday, maybe ever.
- 57:56I got him stashed. I'm ready.
- 57:58Man, I believe it. Here's an interesting question.
- 58:05You a bigger believer in the Mets right now given their pre
- 58:08season expectations or you're a bigger believer in a Padres?
- 58:11Padres. Given their pre season
- 58:14expectations because they were drastically different between
- 58:17the two. Padres.
- 58:19I think that's just your anti Mets by his plan.
- 58:22No, I think they're more balanced.
- 58:24I think they're more balanced. Fair enough, but I can't argue
- 58:31with you there. Yeah, more balanced, better
- 58:36defense, better pitching. There's names.
- 58:40Papa John's, yeah, there's names there man, Dylan sees proven
- 58:47Michael King legit there's names in that staff.
- 58:53I just. I would, I would love to have
- 58:57and I think I said this when he was, when he was being floated
- 59:02around. I, I really wish we had Michael
- 59:06King. I I really like Michael King.
- 59:08Love Michael King. Love Michael Just.
- 59:11Seems like a dude you would love to have in your rotation.
- 59:16Just nasty crossfire action. Gross.
- 59:20Yeah, man. Any more cannons?
- 59:25Jealous. Oh my God.
- 59:27Cannons. Hunter Brown.
- 59:31Found it. Came across an interesting stat.
- 59:33Hunter Brown 1st 7 starts of last year 2024.
- 59:38This is according to your daddy 2025 MVP, who by the way, not
- 59:45exactly off to an MVP start. Hunter Brown's first seven
- 59:51starts. In 2024 he had an 889, which was
- 59:54second worst in the league. In his 28 start since then, he's
- 1:00:00got a 224. Which is second best in the
- 1:00:03league to none other than Paul Skeen's.
- 1:00:07Part of him. So Hunter Brown is in Paul
- 1:00:09Skeen's territory. That checks out.
- 1:00:12And that stretch, which pretty good, pretty good company to
- 1:00:16have. Oh, look, I do say so myself.
- 1:00:18I do Kalia. Don't we remember like getting
- 1:00:22Justin Verlander vibes from this kid when he first came up like
- 1:00:27people talked about him in that way, like the it's just it
- 1:00:31looked very similar, similar stuff.
- 1:00:33A little bit of a fall off and then I feel like everyone just
- 1:00:37forgot about him. Kids.
- 1:00:39Good kid is good, good for the Stroh's.
- 1:00:46They got to do it differently, man.
- 1:00:48If the Stroh's want to stay in in consideration, let's be fair.
- 1:00:54I, I think this is a good time for the Astros to kind of go
- 1:01:04through this trial just because the AL looks fairly soft this
- 1:01:07year. So they could take a step back
- 1:01:11from what they've been in the past and still be in contention,
- 1:01:14but they're going to have to do it differently than the way it's
- 1:01:16looked in the past. So interesting to see.
- 1:01:21And it's guys like this that have to, they have to step up.
- 1:01:25They have to step up. He's got to be a guy.
- 1:01:28Jeremy Pena has got to be a guy. Like it's time for the next
- 1:01:32group to step in and become what they're supposed to be.
- 1:01:37So how do you like this nugget Hunter Brown?
- 1:01:41Hunter Brown has not given up a run since the first inning on
- 1:01:44April 3rd. That's a nugget.
- 1:01:53I'll say that again, Hunter Brown has not given up a run
- 1:01:56since the first ending on April 3rd.
- 1:02:00There's weird stats right now. I love I love early, but like
- 1:02:04kind of enough games have passed where stats are starting to get
- 1:02:08crazy. I mean, that was four starts to
- 1:02:10go. I know as Jacob Wilson has.
- 1:02:13Has he struck out yet? Was this?
- 1:02:18Strikeout or a walk. He isn't.
- 1:02:20He's one of the two he hasn't had yet.
- 1:02:22Well I type in Jacob Wilson and walk was the 1st.
- 1:02:25Result. So he's hitting like 340 or
- 1:02:27whatever, but he hasn't walked yet.
- 1:02:30All right, this was a forgive me, this is the top tweet that
- 1:02:33I'm seeing right now. Jacob Wilson.
- 1:02:36See, this was April 22nd from Baseball America.
- 1:02:39Jacob Wilson season approach so far has been incredible and
- 1:02:43extreme. 3.7% strikeout rate, 0% walk rate, 92% contact rate, 45%
- 1:02:51chase rate. He hasn't even seen a three ball
- 1:02:53count. And then I Scroll down to the
- 1:02:56next week. Baseball America says the
- 1:02:57Drought's Over, Finally draws a walk and brings home a run for
- 1:03:01the A's. You have bases loaded.
- 1:03:03Walk. What a stud.
- 1:03:04Bases loaded walk. That's dope.
- 1:03:06Anyway, how did I miss that? That's crazy.
- 1:03:08That's isn't it weird? Like those numbers are unreal.
- 1:03:12It doesn't make any sense, but I like that there's like this
- 1:03:15strange little chapter that we get in like a month into
- 1:03:19baseball where like there's, you know, you're still.
- 1:03:22Holding on to these. Really quirky, very strange that
- 1:03:26things that just, you look at it and you're like, that doesn't
- 1:03:28make any sense. But Hunter Brown anyway, good
- 1:03:31streak, good streak going. And one last one here for good
- 1:03:37measure, not that we have to go into into depth here, but Bobby
- 1:03:41Witt Junior bang, 16 game hitting streak for the kid.
- 1:03:48You'll love to see it for the boy.
- 1:03:52You'll love to see it for the boyfriend of the program, Bobby
- 1:03:56Witt Junior, part owner of Chinook Cedary.
- 1:04:01That's what I was going to say. Bobby Witt, Junior, shout out.
- 1:04:04I was going to say the best in baseball.
- 1:04:07We're basically invited to the WIT Thanksgiving this year, so
- 1:04:11that's where we're at. Just a little life update, no
- 1:04:17biggie. That's where that's where we are
- 1:04:19at the moment of current Yeah. Kids pretty good.
- 1:04:25Kids pretty, pretty good, man. And that's really all we got to
- 1:04:29say on it, honestly. Yeah, I told you, there's
- 1:04:32certain categories of names that just will find a way to impact
- 1:04:37the game somehow, some way. And his athleticism is
- 1:04:41unmatched, man. He like, go ahead, say what you
- 1:04:45want about me as a as a baseball fan here, but like Bobby Witt to
- 1:04:50me, and I know maybe he doesn't have as much flair as as certain
- 1:04:56people may may like or or prefer.
- 1:04:59But Bobby Witt junior to me is just like the the like
- 1:05:07quintessential baseball player. Man plays the game hard, has
- 1:05:12every tool, plays the game right, says all the right
- 1:05:18things, does all the right things, handles himself well,
- 1:05:21doesn't get into trouble. Has drip, he's not super boring.
- 1:05:26I mean, come on. If you were to steal a a current
- 1:05:32MLB or MLB life and swap places. He got his bag.
- 1:05:42I mean, he's like we met. Just say that name.
- 1:05:45Part owner of a company, Chinook Cedery.
- 1:05:49Like, what are we doing? What a what a kid.
- 1:05:54What a kid. I'm man, I love me some Bobby
- 1:05:57Witt. Yeah.
- 1:05:59We'll get to see him in Atlanta. That's.
- 1:06:02Going to be sick. Barring any any catastrophic
- 1:06:07events, but I'm not going to put that out there.
- 1:06:11We'll see you in Atlanta, Bobby. Closing the book real quick.
- 1:06:15Blake Snell shut down from his throwing program after.
- 1:06:23Was it some discomfort after playing catch on Tuesday, Dave
- 1:06:28Roberts said he's not concerned necessarily.
- 1:06:31They're taking taking precautions.
- 1:06:33So you know. It's no need, take your time.
- 1:06:40Take your time literally as as the show.
- 1:06:43Hey, New Balance commercial is on my screen like I said.
- 1:06:46Hey, hey, what's hey, I said. Hey, hey, hey.
- 1:06:57I hate that I know get. A commercial off my TV New
- 1:07:03Balance we got now. Dude, no, I don't know why I
- 1:07:06just made show hey. I don't know why, I just made
- 1:07:09show. Hey Latin.
- 1:07:11I liked it. Thank you dude, it's been years.
- 1:07:15A single New Balance item. It's been years since I bought
- 1:07:18something New Balance, but you know, maybe they'll finally get
- 1:07:20to me. Maybe they'll finally get to me
- 1:07:23with this commercial. Hey, hey, hey, Put.
- 1:07:29An air in an air. We, we, we need to incorporate
- 1:07:32that into the show somehow. Like should maybe that should
- 1:07:34replace our intro song. Just maybe.
- 1:07:37Hey, hey, hey, Jock Peterson ended his Hitler streak, broke
- 1:07:44his O for super predictable headline here.
- 1:07:48Jacques Peterson breaks his O for 41 slump last night with a
- 1:07:51double off 101 mile an hour fastball from Mason Miller of
- 1:07:56all people. Baseball's weird, man, what can
- 1:07:59I say? That's that's the beauty of I
- 1:08:03mean like hitting is. Stupid.
- 1:08:05It's what it is. Throw it as hard as you want.
- 1:08:07Like most hitters are going to be like, I gotcha.
- 1:08:10We're fine. Especially in a moment where
- 1:08:13you're struggling. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:16Like there was nothing better when you were playing shortstop
- 1:08:19and you boot a ball and you're like, maybe the next game in
- 1:08:24high school, you're like playing third and you're just like,
- 1:08:27perfect. I don't have to react.
- 1:08:29I just or I don't have to think. I just react like it's just
- 1:08:31ground ball. Boom.
- 1:08:32Got it. So much easier than shortstop,
- 1:08:34by the way. So much easier.
- 1:08:36Yeah, playing third was the best.
- 1:08:39Similar as a hitter, man, It's just like, it'd be nice to just
- 1:08:43base somebody. That doesn't make me absolutely
- 1:08:47twist myself into the dirt. Like, just throw as hard as you
- 1:08:50want. I'm going to get there.
- 1:08:52I don't have to think she's got to do it.
- 1:08:55Some people are telling Jock to retire, man.
- 1:08:58Did you hear that? It's interesting.
- 1:09:03Yeah, real interesting. Was that?
- 1:09:07Was that you by chance? That wasn't me.
- 1:09:09I like that lineup. I like that lineup.
- 1:09:11Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK.
- 1:09:13You know what? What?
- 1:09:16No, go for it. Go ahead.
- 1:09:17I was just going to say, I like, I like that Jake Burger's
- 1:09:20growing a beard now. He doesn't seem as chubby than
- 1:09:23when he was just rocking a mustache in Miami.
- 1:09:26He seemed chubby with just the mustache, you know?
- 1:09:29He did. He was a He was a hefty boy.
- 1:09:32Yeah, he looks better now. Looks drop some L BS.
- 1:09:34It looks good, looks real good. But hey, you know what?
- 1:09:37We're out of the segment. But you know what?
- 1:09:40If you're going to snap your O for 41, slump against Mason.
- 1:09:43Miller. Let's give him the cannon.
- 1:09:45Jock Peterson. By the way, opponents were
- 1:09:48hitting 143 off of Miller's fastball this year, so that adds
- 1:09:54up. And last thing we got here, have
- 1:09:59you seen the switch pitcher in the Miners?
- 1:10:03Which one? What's his name?
- 1:10:08We've had a few come across. Dude, you asked me, you're
- 1:10:11asking me to pronounce his name. Yeah, please.
- 1:10:14Really. You're asking me to pronounce
- 1:10:16his name? By the way, you got you got
- 1:10:17called out in the chat. They said no position in
- 1:10:19baseball is easy. I'm telling you third base.
- 1:10:27I mean, if you had to rank them, if you had to power rank them,
- 1:10:29if I, I'm. Telling you I.
- 1:10:30Love me some third base baby. Dude, it's just night and day.
- 1:10:35Just reactionary compared to shortstop.
- 1:10:39Shortstop's sometimes just a miserable place to be.
- 1:10:45No. So you asked me to pronounce the
- 1:10:46name of the switch pitcher into minors?
- 1:10:51Durangelo nailed it, bro. The last name.
- 1:10:55Come on. No, I can't.
- 1:10:57How? How would you pronounce his
- 1:10:59name? CIJNTJE.
- 1:11:06Don't even act like you have an answer to that.
- 1:11:08Question one more time. One more time.
- 1:11:09CIJNTJE that's that's 4 consonants in a row.
- 1:11:18I don't even know what sound that makes.
- 1:11:20I feel like the JS are silent, right?
- 1:11:24OK, So it's Sinte. Pretty sure this is, I think.
- 1:11:34Isn't he Latin Sinte? I don't know.
- 1:11:40Anyway, he's a switch pitcher, first round pick for the
- 1:11:43Mariners in, well, last year actually.
- 1:11:46He's pitching for Hi Everett right now. 5 foot 11200 lbs.
- 1:11:57Look, he can push triple digits. That's what I was going to say.
- 1:12:00If if you're burning a first round pick on something like
- 1:12:03this, he's going to be good. Can pump close to triple digits
- 1:12:09from the right right side and then from the left, which they
- 1:12:14said is his natural side. Don't know how that makes sense.
- 1:12:19It throws from a lower arm slot and sits around 90.
- 1:12:24Oh, so it's got like different stuff from each side?
- 1:12:29Which doesn't quite seem fair. That's sick.
- 1:12:33That's nice with the Mariners. Yeah, hi, Everett, the Aqua Sox.
- 1:12:44Where's Everett, WA? I feel like it is, but let me
- 1:12:50confirm here. Everett Aqua sucks.
- 1:12:56I forgot to tell you, I was at the I was at Sloane Park, the
- 1:13:02Cubs training. Facility last week.
- 1:13:06My. Everett, WA Yeah.
- 1:13:08Nailed it. My, we replaced one of their
- 1:13:11cameras right outside of their, their clubhouse.
- 1:13:15It's funny, just like parking in like the player parking lot.
- 1:13:19And you can see like the guys that got paid because you can
- 1:13:23see the cars. And then you can see like the
- 1:13:26guys who are very much just like like sign there when they were
- 1:13:31like 16 because there's like a bunch of apartments across the
- 1:13:34street and they're just coming in on scooters.
- 1:13:38They're wearing slides and they're coming in on scooters
- 1:13:40with like massive headphones. I love it.
- 1:13:43They're just scootering through the parking lot.
- 1:13:45Yeah. That's cool.
- 1:13:47Kids have fun, man. They.
- 1:13:48Broke. They broke.
- 1:13:51They had a panoramic camera that was hanging off the wall above.
- 1:13:55It was coming out of their back entrance of their clubhouse and
- 1:13:59then the umpire room that was coming out.
- 1:14:03And they had set up a Frisbee golf course, like in the little
- 1:14:08patch of grass behind center field of the side field.
- 1:14:11Love that. And there's video of one of them
- 1:14:14just holding on to it too long, and it just smokes the camera.
- 1:14:18Camera falls. Oh, no.
- 1:14:21And then the camera, you just see, like, it's like, dangling.
- 1:14:24And he can see one of the lenses looking at him.
- 1:14:26And they're just like, they walk over and they're looking up at
- 1:14:28it, and there's glass everywhere.
- 1:14:30Oh, it's pretty funny. Yeah.
- 1:14:33Love that. Anyway, story over somewhat
- 1:14:37related. Speaking of Speaking of love, we

- 1:16:35Tell us I'm going to We might. Listen, I might.
- 1:16:39I'm going to I'm going to need I want to I want to open up the
- 1:16:42credit can and like this is going to be a it's going to be a
- 1:16:45crowd sourced effort as as this continues like it.
- 1:16:48If if, if somebody deserves to be hit with a cannon, let me
- 1:16:51know and I'll I'll I'll weigh it amongst the what I the list that
- 1:16:57I've sort of contrived, but what you got.
- 1:17:01If Aaron Judge is still hitting over 400 this time next week, he
- 1:17:04needs a cannon. I'm just going to say that.
- 1:17:07I know it was. It was really hard to leave him
- 1:17:09off the list. But but they're we're trying to
- 1:17:12dig in a little bit. I mean, there's guys that you
- 1:17:15know are going to be that like they're going to be.
- 1:17:17Yeah, but I mean if he's in over 400 and when in May?
- 1:17:20Yeah, yeah, it's valid. We got to talk.
- 1:17:23I said no, no, you're right. You're right.
- 1:17:24You're right. I'm just trying to get some of
- 1:17:25these guys that may or may not be understood worthy or eligible
- 1:17:30for the list in the coming weeks.
- 1:17:31Who knows? Same with Paul Goldsmith, by the
- 1:17:33way. I don't know.
- 1:17:38It's hitting like 360. But yeah, to to kind of put a
- 1:17:43ball on what Nate's Nate was saying.
- 1:17:45If you go to games, tag us. Like tag us in your stories.

- 1:17:59baseball related or anything baseball related.
- 1:18:02You got the TV on. You wanna show us what you're
- 1:18:05having for dinner with the TV in the background?
- 1:18:07Dude, this OK, this. I'm glad you brought that up.
- 1:18:10This this is the thing we kind of started in our fantasy league
- 1:18:13group chat, just not intentionally, just simply, I
- 1:18:17think just by accident, like somebody shared what they were
- 1:18:20having for dinner. And now it's like every day it
- 1:18:22sounds, it sounds silly, but I'm telling you when if you're a
- 1:18:25foodie and you enjoy food, you like seeing these these feasts
- 1:18:30that other people are preparing as they're sitting down to watch
- 1:18:33some baseball. So today's point, tag us in a
- 1:18:36story. If you're sitting down with a
- 1:18:38cold brew and a nice, a nice, maybe you prepared yourself a
- 1:18:41nice little steak or a burger or a nice plate of pasta, 'cause
- 1:18:46he's Italian. Then tag us and I'll post to the
- 1:18:50story because this is a shared experience and I'm all about it.
- 1:18:54And we love you all and we are grateful for you.
- 1:18:57And as I mentioned, if you can subscribe, we would greatly
- 1:19:02appreciate it or, or whatever it is that you do to, to maybe help
- 1:19:05us out a little bit because the more help we get from you guys,
- 1:19:09the more we can do this. And that's what it's all about.
- 1:19:11So thank you all. We love you.
- 1:19:14It's all I got. More most importantly, if you
- 1:19:18buy and or are consuming Chinook seeds, definitely use the promo
- 1:19:23code and definitely tag us in that as well.
- 1:19:26Because and tag them because they you want to talk about
- 1:19:28plugs. They love sharing when people
- 1:19:30are are pulling a trigger on some.
- 1:19:32They're all about it, they're all about it.
- 1:19:35That's all I got. Let's let's party up this
- 1:19:37weekend. Don't go chasing car, boss.
