- 0:00We are back folks. The confetti has stopped falling.
- 0:04The champagne has been poured out. The ring ceremony
- 0:07has happened and the banner is in the stands.
- 0:10The slate has been cleaned and everyone has a
- 0:13chance to etch their name in history. No longer
- 0:16are we talking about the events of last season.
- 0:18No longer are we playing the what -if game with
- 0:20friends, loved ones, and colleagues because football
- 0:23is finally back. We have now hit the point of
- 0:26the year where the determining factor of a good
- 0:29week or a bad week is based on a win or loss.
- 0:33Football is finally back. And for the next six
- 0:36months, we will all be football junkies in our
- 0:40own way. Week one is in the book folks and man
- 0:44did it not disappoint us from the Bears putting
- 0:46up 60 points to the Browns Already being in turmoil
- 0:49and it's only the second week of the season.
- 0:52We have a lot to talk about So let's just get
- 0:54into it. All right Ravens and Colts recap Browns
- 0:57and Jaguars recap and Ohio State versus Texas
- 1:00recap. Okay all of this and more on the 107th
- 1:03episode of the Football Junkies podcast, all
- 1:05right? I'm your host with the most, all right?
- 1:07I'm your Chief Bagro -Damas, that's right, Chief
- 1:10Head of Table. Anything and everything related
- 1:11to the bag, rumors to the bag and more. I'm your
- 1:14GM who currently is not on the team right now,
- 1:16but don't you worry about it, all right? Don't
- 1:18you worry about it because guess what? I have
- 1:19all these things and more, but most importantly,
- 1:22the most important thing that you must remember
- 1:23is I am your host, Kale. Buckle up. It's gonna
- 1:26get crazy. I've been going for about a couple
- 1:29months So I got a lot to say and I got a lot
- 1:31of stuff to get off my chest So guess what on
- 1:33three one, two, three, let's lock in Let's get
- 2:05to the meaty potatoes of everything that's going
- 2:07on in the league right now. So let's just get
- 2:09into it Alright, so with the ravers and Colts
- 2:11Lamar Jackson, 25 attempts for 17 completions,
- 2:15324 passing yards, one touchdown, 13 yards per
- 2:18attempt and a 68 completion percentage. Derrick
- 2:20Henry, 24 rushing attempts for 144 rushing yards,
- 2:24six rushing yards per carry, three rushing touchdowns
- 2:27and four rushes of 10 plus yards or more. Ze
- 2:29Flowers, six targets for five receptions, 150
- 2:33receiving yards, one touchdown, 30 receiving
- 2:35yards per reception and 85 yards after catch.
- 2:38Put a bookmark on that because we're going to
- 2:39be talking about that. just a moment, OK? Now
- 2:42with Daniel Jones, 31 attempts for 19 completions,
- 2:46166 passing yards, one touchdown, one interception,
- 2:495 .4 yards per attempt, and a 61 .3 completion
- 2:52percentage. Jonathan Taylor, 19 rushing attempts
- 2:55for 98 rushing yards, 5 .2 rushing yards per
- 2:58carry, two rushing touchdowns, and five rushes
- 3:01of 10 plus yards or more. Alec Pierce, six targets
- 3:04for four receptions, 61 receiving yards, and
- 3:0615 .3 receiving yards per reception. So going
- 3:09into this game, I didn't have the highest expectations,
- 3:14but I did believe this could be one of those
- 3:17games that we're going to be talking about for
- 3:19the coming weeks. And the reason why I say that
- 3:21is because we all know what happened with the
- 3:23Ravens this off season, right? John Harbaugh
- 3:25is gone. Todd Monkin is gone. That entire regime
- 3:28is gone. And now Jesse Minter and Declan Doyle
- 3:31come in. So here I am thinking, OK, how is this
- 3:36offense going to look? and most importantly,
- 3:38how was Lamar gonna look with Declan Doyle? And
- 3:43I'm gonna be honest with you, for this to be
- 3:45the first week, Lamar looks pretty good. And
- 3:48I understand that this is just the first week,
- 3:50and I understand a lot of times we can overhype
- 3:52things and whatnot. but you can just see the
- 3:56small details have been refined a lot under Declan
- 3:59Doyle compared to Tom Monkin. And this is no
- 4:02jab at Tom Monkin, but we just have to be honest
- 4:04here folks. In the last few years under the hardball
- 4:08and Monkin regime, Things start to get a little
- 4:11bit stale right you ever been in a room that
- 4:14has that stale smell It's not necessarily a stinky
- 4:17smell and it's not necessarily a good smell but
- 4:21it's a smell that just lingers around for a really
- 4:24long time and That's been the Ravens offense
- 4:26for the past few years Sometimes it can be really
- 4:30explosive put up crazy numbers and blow everybody
- 4:33away And then there could be other times where
- 4:35it's really reserved. They don't get anywhere
- 4:38It's just like what are you doing? And I think
- 4:42the Ravens realize this all season that hey,
- 4:45we have this special talent in Lamar Jackson
- 4:47We need to try to win now because as I've said
- 4:51before in previous episodes And I'm going to
- 4:54continue to say it until something happens. They
- 4:57have to win a Super Bowl That is the only way
- 5:01that you can justify every decision the Ravens
- 5:03have made thus far from trading for Roquon Smith
- 5:07to you know drafting Kyle Hamilton and drafting
- 5:11Nate Wiggins and you know signing Derrick Henry
- 5:13via free agency and all the moves that they made
- 5:17you have to win at least one I'm not expecting
- 5:20them to win two or three or ten but you have
- 5:23to win at least one and I think with Declan Doyle
- 5:26and Jesse Minter I think they have the best chance
- 5:29because the offense just looked more fluid and
- 5:32if we can be honest here I think the part that
- 5:35needs to be talked about a little bit more is
- 5:38how effective everybody was when it came to Yak,
- 5:42right? We all know Zay Flowers had a crazy game,
- 5:44right? And as I just read with the stats, he
- 5:47had 85 yards after catch. But let's just break
- 5:50this down even more, okay? Chris Moore had 24
- 5:53yards after catch, Derek Henry had 20 yards after
- 5:56the catch, Mark Andrews had 14 yards after the
- 5:59catch, Justice Hill had 11 yards after the catch,
- 6:03and Matthew Hibner had 11 yards after the catch.
- 6:06That to me is signaling that not only is the
- 6:09play calling creating things where they can not
- 6:13only make the big play, but it's also creating
- 6:15the opportunity. for a small play to turn into
- 6:19big yards. And I think that's something that
- 6:22was missing under Todd Monkin for the last few
- 6:24years. And I think getting someone in Declan
- 6:27Doyle who comes from Ben Johnson and Sean Payton,
- 6:31I think you're gonna get the best of both worlds.
- 6:34Because not only are you gonna get a highly explosive
- 6:37passing game, but the running game is also gonna
- 6:39be effective too. And honestly speaking, I think
- 6:44the only thing That may have people a little
- 6:47bit upset about is the offensive line, but let
- 6:50me emphasize this and i've i've told this with
- 6:52my friends mook We've had this conversation before.
- 6:55Okay. Shout out to mook. Shout out to all the
- 6:58ravens nation. Okay offensive lines Need time
- 7:03in order to get into their groove, right? You
- 7:06don't see offensive lines looking like an offensive
- 7:09line in the mid season They take time And sometimes
- 7:14it'll take you maybe about, I don't know, half
- 7:17of the season, maybe the second part of the season
- 7:20for them to really gel. And that's what we're
- 7:23seeing with the Ravens. Ronnie Stanley, he had
- 7:27a lot of penalties, but he's a veteran tackle.
- 7:29So I'm gonna give him some grace. I know for
- 7:32him, it takes him a while to get into his groove.
- 7:34That's fine. But if we see this past the trade
- 7:37deadline, hey, we may have to have a conversation,
- 7:40okay? Vega Iwane, he's a rookie, he's gonna make
- 7:44some mistakes. I can't really hold him, you know,
- 7:48super accountable, right? Because again, rookies
- 7:50are gonna make mistakes. Regardless of where
- 7:54they were drafted and the hype that they had
- 7:56coming out of college and whatnot, they're going
- 7:59to make mistakes. Rookie offensive linemen do
- 8:02not look good. I don't care who you bring up.
- 8:05You can bring up Trent Williams, you can bring
- 8:07up Steve Hutchinson, you can bring up Alan Fenneca,
- 8:10you can bring up Anthony Munoz. It does not matter.
- 8:13They are not going to look good. They're gonna
- 8:15have flashes, okay? But to say that they're gonna
- 8:19just come out guns blazing? No. And if they do,
- 8:23it's a very rare situation. But overall, I was
- 8:26very impressed with this offense. Now, defensively,
- 8:31oh, the Ravens are back. The Ravens defensively
- 8:36are back. And I think that was the part that
- 8:40really caught my attention in this game because
- 8:43for the last few years, post Mike McDonald, this
- 8:47defense has been really inconsistent, right?
- 8:49You'll have one year where Roquon looks really
- 8:52good, Marlon looks good, Kyle Hamilton, you know,
- 8:55looks like one of the best safeties in the league.
- 8:57And then you'll have another year where it's
- 8:59like, what is everybody doing? Case in point
- 9:02last year. I forgot what game it was Ravens fans.
- 9:06You should probably know what I'm talking about.
- 9:08Okay? There was a point in time where they have
- 9:12Marlon Humphrey lining up as a linebacker You
- 9:16don't believe me. I will find the clip better
- 9:19yet I will find the picture and Posted with this
- 9:23episode as proof Now I understand that John Harbaugh
- 9:27wanted to give Zach Orr a chance, but let's be
- 9:30honest here You don't thrust someone like Zach
- 9:33Orr into a position like this. This is something
- 9:37where you needed a veteran defensive coordinator
- 9:40to handle this defense. And bringing in Dean
- 9:43Pease mid -season is not gonna be the answer.
- 9:46Bringing back Chuck Pagano is not gonna be the
- 9:48answer. You need to bring in somebody that's
- 9:51gonna have new ideas, new concepts, and a new
- 9:54approach to defense. Because the defensive culture
- 9:58now, not just with the Ravens, But everywhere
- 10:00around the league is different now. You're seeing
- 10:03a lot of defense is now operating in big nickel.
- 10:06And you have Kyle Hamilton who can operate as
- 10:09a big nickel. Look at how Derwin James was used
- 10:13under Esi Mincer. He can do the exact same thing
- 10:18with Kyle Hamilton. But I think he could probably
- 10:22make Kyle Hamilton even better in that situation
- 10:25compared to Derwin James. Because Kyle Hamilton
- 10:28is a little bit taller, he's a little bit bigger,
- 10:30and you can use him in a plethora of different
- 10:33situations compared to Derwin James. When we
- 10:35look at the Ravens just as a whole, I understand
- 10:38this is just the first week. But for them to
- 10:42put on such a dominating performance against
- 10:44the Colts, against a team who... By all measurements
- 10:49people could say they're playoff contenders I'm
- 10:53pretty impressed, but I want to see how this
- 10:55goes as the season continues because again Anybody
- 11:00can look good in week one, right? How many teams
- 11:02have we seen in week one? Put up crazy numbers
- 11:05and do crazy things and then week two week three
- 11:08week four They just look horrible if I'm not
- 11:11mistaken. We saw this with the Saints a couple
- 11:12years ago They put up crazy stats against the
- 11:16Cowboys and everybody was like, whoa, is this
- 11:19the year for the Saints? Is Derek Hargan gonna
- 11:22win his first MVP this year? And then shortly
- 11:24after, they just standing all the way down. And
- 11:28then we never talked about the Saints probably
- 11:30for the rest of the year. And if we did, it was
- 11:32probably about someone being traded or someone
- 11:36being out for the year or something crazy happening,
- 11:39right? But when we talk about the Colts, however,
- 11:43I did have some reservations about Daniel Jones.
- 11:47And the reason why I say that is because I thought
- 11:50he needed a little bit more time to recover from
- 11:52the Achilles, personally. Whenever you have an
- 11:55injury like that, especially as a quarterback.
- 11:57it's gonna take you about maybe two years for
- 12:00you to really, you know, really feel like yourself.
- 12:03And we've seen that with multiple quarterbacks.
- 12:05We saw that with Era Rogers and we saw that with
- 12:08her cousins. It took Era Rogers almost two years
- 12:11to really be Era Rogers again because of the
- 12:14Achilles injury. Now granted, Daniel Jones is
- 12:17a little bit younger so he can recover a little
- 12:19bit faster than them, but it's the same type
- 12:22of injury. Now, I didn't think this offense was
- 12:27bad. I didn't think this offense was great either.
- 12:31I just feel like they left a lot of meat on the
- 12:34bone. And I think going into this year with a
- 12:39lot on the line and the possibility that this
- 12:41may be the last year for Shane Stiketon as the
- 12:43head coach for the Colts, I wanted to see more.
- 12:46I wanted to see Tyler Warren get used in different
- 12:49ways. I wanted to see Alec Pierce get used in
- 12:52different ways. I wanted Jonathan Taylor to be
- 12:54more active, not just in the run game, because
- 12:57at the end of the day, you have the pieces on
- 13:00both offense and defense. But the only problem
- 13:04that we are seeing with the Colts is they fall
- 13:06on their own sword every single year. They make
- 13:11the boneheaded mistakes at the wrong time, and
- 13:14guess what? Now we're not talking about them.
- 13:16We saw that last year last year the Colts were
- 13:20on fire for most of the season and Then lo and
- 13:24behold they went up against a few teams and then
- 13:27they started look a little shaky and then before
- 13:29you know it Daniel Jones is hurt then he's out
- 13:32for the year and then you're bringing back Philip
- 13:34Rivers and Then you're thinking that Philip Rivers
- 13:37can at least hold things together until Daniel
- 13:40Jones Can at least come back or at least do something?
- 13:44No, it just wasn't going to work. And at some
- 13:51point, we just have to have an honest conversation
- 13:53about Shane Stiketon. Maybe he's over his head
- 13:56with the Colts. Because let's be honest here.
- 13:59They have very high expectations for a team that,
- 14:02me personally, I do not consider them contenders.
- 14:06I would consider the Texans more of a contender,
- 14:10despite the question mark that they had with
- 14:12CJ Stroud. Then the Colts right now personally
- 14:16that that's just my personal opinion I could
- 14:18be wrong Colts fans Texas fans you guys come
- 14:21and be sideways. I really don't care, right?
- 14:24But just looking at how this offense played I
- 14:29have questions But I need to see them as the
- 14:34season progress before I can make my conclusions
- 14:37because again It's only week one a lot of things
- 14:41can happen a lot of times This is you know, the
- 14:46first real snaps that a lot of these players
- 14:48are playing because a lot of them don't play
- 14:50in the preseason at all So, you know, it takes
- 14:53them a while to you know, get into the swing
- 14:55of things and that's perfectly fine But in a
- 14:58year where you need to show something where you
- 15:01need to elevate your play where you need to say
- 15:04hey Last year wasn't just a fluke We're here
- 15:09to stay. We're gonna be competitive. We're not
- 15:11gonna stop You needed to win this game Even when
- 15:16they were down They still committed to the run
- 15:19game granted you have Jonathan Taylor one of
- 15:21the best running backs in the league and that's
- 15:23perfectly fine But at some point you need to
- 15:25put that ball in the air You have Tyler Warren
- 15:28you have You have Alec Pierce you have downs
- 15:33you have people that can make plays you needed
- 15:37to put that ball up in the air and They really
- 15:40didn't do it as much But again, I'm gonna give
- 15:43you some grace because why it's the first week
- 15:46of the regular season A lot of things can change
- 15:49from now until then and plus if we can be honest
- 15:53here Most coaches don't like to show their bag
- 15:57per se when it's the first week. They like to
- 16:00wait. Okay now defensively We might have to have
- 16:06a conversation about Luana rumo, I'm not saying
- 16:08he's a bad defensive coordinator I just feel
- 16:11like his philosophy does not match with the Colts
- 16:14personally. It's just, they were just night and
- 16:17day sometimes. And the points in the game where
- 16:20they needed to consistently make plays just to
- 16:24keep the game close, they weren't doing it. Lamar
- 16:27was having his way with that secondary. Zay Flowers
- 16:30cooking. Cooking with hot grease from the moment
- 16:34that he caught his first pass. Until his hamstring
- 16:38messed up. He was on fire and the cold secondary
- 16:41didn't have an answer for it. I Blamed that on
- 16:45coaching at some point. You have to make an adjustment
- 16:48at some point. You have to recognize Hey, this
- 16:51is what they're doing. We need to do something
- 16:53different You just traded two first -round picks
- 16:56for sauce Garner and gave it gave him a boatload
- 16:58of money Put sauce on Zay Flowers see what happens
- 17:02if need be put a safety over top do something
- 17:05You need to position your best players in a way
- 17:09where they can make big plays and If you can't
- 17:13do that, well, then I'm sorry. We have a problem
- 17:15because I mean, let's be honest here They have
- 17:16a good defensive line. You have a lot to lot
- 17:19to right? You still have the force Buckner. You
- 17:22still have Grover Stewart the linebacker core
- 17:25It could be better, but I think it's good enough
- 17:29In the secondary, it's a work in progress. Cool.
- 17:34But that's not what we saw on Sunday. What we
- 17:37saw was a defense that just got picked apart
- 17:40left and right. Derrick Henry looked like mid
- 17:44-season Derrick Henry. Three rushing touchdowns?
- 17:49Is anybody tackling? Is anybody doing the fundamental
- 17:54things that you're supposed to be doing? No,
- 17:56we didn't see that. Instead, what we saw was
- 18:00a defense that was clinging to the idea of, if
- 18:05we can just make one play, or if they can just
- 18:08make one mistake, maybe we can do something.
- 18:11And I'm sorry, that's not good enough for me.
- 18:13Especially for a team that many consider contenders,
- 18:18even though to me, I think they're just pretenders.
- 18:21And one more thing about this game, and then
- 18:23we'll talk about the Browns and Jags, because
- 18:24there's a lot to talk about with that game. According
- 18:27to NFL Pro, in man coverage against Zay Flowers,
- 18:32Sauce Gardner only gave up one reception for
- 18:3412 yards. I'm going to say that again. In man
- 18:39coverage against Zay Flowers, Sauce Gardner,
- 18:42the person that you just gave up two first round
- 18:44picks to acquire, gave up one reception for 12
- 18:48yards. So explain to me why Sauce wasn't on Zay
- 18:53Flowers the entire time. explain to me why Justin
- 18:59Wally was the primary person going up against
- 19:02Zay Flowers. Please explain that to me. Because
- 19:06it's those type of situations that can have Zay
- 19:10Flowers just look like one of the best receivers
- 19:12in league. And this is not me saying that he's
- 19:15a slouch, but Zay put up crazy numbers in the
- 19:20first half alone. He didn't even play a lot in
- 19:23the second half. the first half alone he did
- 19:26all his work and you mean to tell me not one
- 19:30time did you say you know what you make a change
- 19:34sauce wherever he goes you go gotta do better
- 19:40but again it's just weak Now let's talk about
- 19:45the Browns and Jags. So Deshaun Watson, 22 attempts
- 19:48for 16 completions, 205 passing yards, one touchdown,
- 19:52one interception, 9 .3 yards per attempt, and
- 19:54a 72 .7 completion percentage, as well as taking
- 19:57on five sacks. Put a bookmark on that, okay?
- 20:00Deshaun Watson again, six rushing attempts for
- 20:0338 rushing yards, 6 .3 rushing yards per carry.
- 20:06Denzel Boston, four targets for two receptions,
- 20:0959 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown,
- 20:11and he averaged 29 .5 receiving yards per reception.
- 20:15Trevor Lawrence, 23 attempts for 18 completions,
- 20:18245 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, 10
- 20:22.7 yards per attempt, and a 78 .3 completion
- 20:25percentage. Baishal Tutin, 15 rushing attempts
- 20:28for 66 rushing yards, 4 .4 rushing yards per
- 20:31carry, and three rushes of 10 plus yards or more.
- 20:34Parker Washington, six targets for five receptions,
- 20:3883 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown,
- 20:40and he averaged 16 .6 receiving yards per reception.
- 20:43So going into this game, I had a lot of questions
- 20:46about the Jaguars as a whole because we all saw
- 20:48how they looked once they acquired Jacoby Myers.
- 20:51They were competitive. They made it into the
- 20:54playoffs, and if we're being honest here, they
- 20:57gave the Bills a run for their money, even though
- 20:59I feel like they should have won that game. But
- 21:00we're not gonna talk about the past. The past
- 21:02is the past, new season, slate clean, all that
- 21:05good stuff and more, right? But to see Parker
- 21:08Washington pick up where he left off from last
- 21:10season, that's a great sign. That lets me know
- 21:13that they have found a gem of a wide receiver.
- 21:17And not only do you have him, But Brian Thomas
- 21:21looked like Brian Thomas of old that's good because
- 21:25we all know for the past two off seasons There's
- 21:27been quote -unquote rumors that the Jaguars are
- 21:30going to trade away Brian Thomas that they're
- 21:32looking for a first -round picking that Well,
- 21:35that's all been silenced now because Brian Thomas
- 21:38is Brian Thomas again, and then you have Jacobi
- 21:41Myers just cooking I Understand this is week
- 21:46one I might get a lot of flack for what I'm about
- 21:50to say. I think the Jaguars will have a top five
- 21:56offense by the time the season is over. I'm going
- 22:03to say that one more time. With the weaponry
- 22:07that they have right now on this offense, I believe
- 22:11that this offense, once everything is said and
- 22:14done, will be top five. and I Believe that this
- 22:20will be the year that Trevor Lawrence will be
- 22:23an MVP finalist. I'm not saying he's gonna win
- 22:25it Okay, not saying that but what I am saying
- 22:29is this will be his best year by far You have
- 22:35a by show to it. You have a good offensive line,
- 22:38which we're gonna talk about that in just a moment
- 22:40Gotta talk about the offensive line, right? You
- 22:42have Brian Thomas, you have Britton Strange,
- 22:45you have Jacobi Myers, and you have Parker Washington.
- 22:49You have everything that you need to have a successful
- 22:52offense. And they've had an offseason together
- 22:57to clean up all the small details. Now, again,
- 23:03it's only week one. And I know people are saying,
- 23:06well, they went up against the Browns. The Browns
- 23:08will be the Browns. I get that. But schematically
- 23:12just seeing how they were operating Gives me
- 23:17hope that this offense is going to put up crazy
- 23:20numbers this season Really think about it Parker
- 23:24Washington was cooking in this game Not only
- 23:29was he effective in the slot, but he was also
- 23:31effective outside You saw them using a lot of
- 23:34bunch formations. You saw them using a lot of
- 23:36trips formations You saw them just dishing the
- 23:40ball left and right to whoever wanted the ball
- 23:42and they were making plays and Then you have
- 23:46a manual prank a pregnant on who they just drafted
- 23:49this year He looks pretty solid, too Now I'm
- 23:55not trying to guess like the Jaguars. Okay Jaguar
- 23:58fans, let's bring it down for a moment. Okay,
- 24:01you know, I got a little bit excited. Let's bring
- 24:03it down. Okay But I do believe they're gonna
- 24:06make some noise I do believe they're going to
- 24:10be a sleeper when we get close to talking about
- 24:12the playoffs You can bookmark that Time stamp
- 24:17it whatever you want. I said what I said The
- 24:21Jaguars will be a problem By the time we talk
- 24:26about the playoffs Am I saying they're gonna
- 24:28win the division? It's possible. Am I saying
- 24:31they can go on a playoff run? It's possible.
- 24:34Anything and everything is possible right now
- 24:37for the Jaguars, and I get it. I know people
- 24:41are gonna say, well, you sound like a hypocrite.
- 24:43It's only week one. Folks, there are just certain
- 24:50things that you just see in an offense that just
- 24:53makes you say, I need to see more of this. But
- 24:57I need to see this against real competition.
- 25:00Because if you can do this against real competition,
- 25:03Houston, we have a problem. We have a big problem.
- 25:07The run game looks really solid. The passing
- 25:11game looks good and consistent. And Trevor Lawrence
- 25:15looks like he is really comfortable. And for
- 25:18once, he looks like the Trevor Lawrence that...
- 25:21everybody was waiting to see. Defensively, the
- 25:24Jaguars looked really good. They were creating
- 25:25a lot of pressure on Deshaun Watson. The defensive
- 25:28line alone was having their way against that
- 25:32Brown's offensive line. I mean, to see Josh Allen
- 25:36Hines go up against Spencer Fonu and just ragdoll
- 25:40him at times, it's a good thing to see. I get
- 25:43it, it's a rookie, but I mean... for him to eat,
- 25:47for Eric Armstead to eat, for Trey Walker to
- 25:51eat, and the linebackers to eat, and the secondary
- 25:53to eat, for everybody to eat the way that they
- 25:57did is promising. Now again, it's only week one,
- 26:02you're going up against the Browns, I get all
- 26:04of that. But if they can do this against the
- 26:07Broncos, We might have to have a conversation
- 26:10about this defense. I'm not saying it's gonna
- 26:12be top five I'm not saying there's gonna be the
- 26:14best defense in the league. I'm not saying any
- 26:16of these things But what I will say is this That
- 26:20is the second best defense in their division
- 26:22right now. I'm willing to put money on that right
- 26:25now prize picks MGM whatever little betting sites
- 26:29that you guys use put your money on the Jaguars
- 26:32defense right now Because that defense right
- 26:35there is going to create some problems this season
- 26:38and if they can continue to get better We are
- 26:44going to see them in the playoffs We are going
- 26:48to see them make big plays in the playoffs It's
- 26:52only a matter of time folks. And again, I get
- 26:55it. It's only week one Most people are saying
- 26:58you're overreacting. Most people are saying you're
- 27:01delusional because they're going up against the
- 27:02Browns, and the Browns are the Browns. I get
- 27:04all of that. But that defense was just cooking.
- 27:10They were cooking with hot grease. And the fact
- 27:15that we are now seeing a return of investment
- 27:17on a lot of the moves they made specifically
- 27:19for the defensive line, that's very promising.
- 27:23Because I mean, for them to get Eric Armstead,
- 27:27And then you know, they draft Josh Allen highs
- 27:30and then they draft Trey Walker and you know
- 27:33everybody else that's on that defensive line
- 27:35There was a point in time. I was like they may
- 27:39have reached Significantly, but to see them do
- 27:43what they did last year and then that carry on
- 27:45into this year is a really good sign that They
- 27:49not only believe What the coaching is telling
- 27:53them but they're buying into the process and
- 27:55now you're seeing the fruits of their labor,
- 27:57which is good Now let's talk about the Browns
- 28:00because there's a lot to talk about with them
- 28:04Todd Monkin is over his head Okay, I understand.
- 28:09This is your first head coaching job but this
- 28:12is probably the worst decision that you've ever
- 28:15made and the reason why I say that is because
- 28:17The Browns are in no condition to compete in
- 28:22the NFL right now. And I mean exactly what I
- 28:25say. And this is not to be disrespectful to any
- 28:29of those players. But by the third quarter, they
- 28:34were demoralized. They didn't want to hit the
- 28:37field anymore. They didn't want to play this
- 28:39game anymore. You know what they want to do?
- 28:41They want to hit the pause button and say, you
- 28:43know what? Quit. Let's restart the game. Nope.
- 28:48Want to change I want to choose a different team.
- 28:51I don't like this. I don't like this. I want
- 28:53to choose a different team That's exactly what
- 28:56we saw folks Todd Monkin was over his head He
- 29:02didn't give you the best coaching performance
- 29:04He didn't give you the worst coaching performance,
- 29:06but he gave you a coaching performance that shows
- 29:09he is not fit for this job He is biting way more
- 29:14than he can chew And if he doesn't see it now,
- 29:17you're going to see it in the next few weeks.
- 29:21I understand they had a very controversial training
- 29:24camp by making Deshaun Watson the starter. I
- 29:27get all of that. But you needed to see some things.
- 29:31If the running game was promising, I think we
- 29:35could have a different conversation than what
- 29:37we're having right now. But to see the passing
- 29:40game be ineffective, to see the run game be ineffective,
- 29:44to see Deshaun Watson look like a deer in headlights
- 29:47at times, and throw interceptions right in front
- 29:52of the linebacker that's looking right at him.
- 29:55Literally, one linebacker is coming down, and
- 29:58the other one is staying in coverage, and he's
- 30:00just following Deshaun Watson. And Deshaun Watson's
- 30:03going right, he's just moving to the right. And
- 30:05Deshaun Watson's going left, he's going to the
- 30:07left a little bit. Just just throw throw the
- 30:11ball out of bounds do something else. You literally
- 30:14just gave him a freebie You have to work for
- 30:17it. You gave it to him These are the types of
- 30:22things that just make you scratch your head and
- 30:25say What are the Browns doing? What are they
- 30:28seeing that we aren't seeing as people who cover
- 30:32football? Why are these decisions being made
- 30:35because they don't make any sense whatsoever?
- 30:38Now I get it this offensive line was put together
- 30:42with band -aids Vaseline and prayers, okay But
- 30:50to just see them get rag dolled the way that
- 30:53they did against this Jaguars defensive line
- 30:56That that's that that's not good that's not good
- 31:01I would have thought at some point Tom Munkin
- 31:04would have at least sent Tied in on Spencer Fano's
- 31:07side just to help him out just to slow down Josh
- 31:09Allen Hines and Trey Walker Now he was the lamb
- 31:14to slaughter Okay That's what he was and granted
- 31:18he needs this because that's the only way that
- 31:21you can see what you have in Spencer Fano But
- 31:23give him some help just a little bit if you give
- 31:26him a little bit of help. Hey Maybe it could
- 31:29turn into a big play Let me just break things
- 31:33down to you just a little bit more Deshaun Watson
- 31:36didn't throw a touchdown pass until late in the
- 31:39fourth quarter with 157 left on the clock. Now
- 31:45I'm not saying they're going up against the 2000
- 31:47Ravens. I'm not saying they're going up against
- 31:49the 85 Bears. I'm not saying they're going up
- 31:51against Blitzburg. But what's going on? From
- 31:57a play calling standpoint to a quarterback standpoint.
- 32:03To everything in between what is going on? because
- 32:07clearly the message is not being sent I Get it.
- 32:12It's only week one But we have a major problem
- 32:17with the Browns and this isn't just something
- 32:20that you can change by switching out players
- 32:22This isn't something that can be changed if you
- 32:25switch out coaching responsibilities. This is
- 32:28something that is from the top all the way down.
- 32:34This game showed that they missed Myles Garrett.
- 32:38You wanna know how bad they missed Myles Garrett?
- 32:41According to NFL Pro, in 16 patch rushes, Jared
- 32:47verse didn't record not one pressure. You know,
- 32:50the person that they just acquired while they
- 32:54trade away Myles Garrett. Let me just go a little
- 32:59bit deeper into this matter. Jared Verst faced
- 33:03Anton Harrison on 10 of his patch rushes with
- 33:078 of them being 1 on 1 situations. He's never
- 33:12had a game without a pressure in his career.
- 33:16His career. You're going up against Anton Harrison.
- 33:218 of those reps were 1 on 1 situations. You couldn't
- 33:26do anything. What can be done to restore confidence
- 33:42in this locker room? But I'll tell you right
- 33:46now if You think that any of these players want
- 33:51to be on this team right now you are sadly mistaken
- 33:54according to NFL Pro Todd Monkin is the 15th
- 34:01straight head coach including interned head coaches
- 34:05To lose in their season opener that is the longest
- 34:10streak in NFL history History he is the 15th
- 34:17head coach including interim head coaches for
- 34:21the Browns to lose their season opener I Understand
- 34:28that you're not gonna win every single game.
- 34:30I understand There's just gonna be a team that's
- 34:35just gonna punch you in your mouth and there's
- 34:37nothing that you can do about it I get that But
- 34:40you needed to fight there was no fight with this
- 34:44team. There was no fight defensively. There was
- 34:47no fight offensively There was a point in time
- 34:51where Deshaun Watson would just say, you know
- 34:53what eff it? I'm just I'm gonna just run with
- 34:56the ball. That's what I'm gonna do. I'm just
- 34:57run with the ball Every single time I get the
- 35:00ball Run it off. It doesn't get you closer to
- 35:03putting points on the board. It doesn't get you
- 35:05closer to figuring out, hey, what works with
- 35:09him? What doesn't work? What can we do to change
- 35:13things to make our offense a little bit better?
- 35:16Instead, all we continue to see is a quarterback
- 35:19who is shocked. And I mean exactly what I say.
- 35:24The Deshaun Watson that we saw in Houston has
- 35:29been long gone. and I don't think he will ever
- 35:33come back. You could put him in any situation
- 35:38right now. You could put him on the Chiefs, you
- 35:40could put him on the 49ers, you could put him
- 35:42on the Seahawks, you could put him on any contender
- 35:45right now, regardless if it's AFC or NFC. The
- 35:48same Deshaun Watson that we are seeing right
- 35:50now, that is what you're gonna get. And I'm sorry,
- 35:56at this point, what is Deshaun Watson bringing
- 35:58in the locker room that you can feel confident
- 36:01about? Is it leadership? No. Is it confidence
- 36:03that he's going to have a bounce back game this
- 36:05upcoming week? No. It's none of these things.
- 36:09Because at the end of the day, the decision to
- 36:13make Deshaun Watson the starting quarterback
- 36:16for week one was not about play. It is about
- 36:19an organization gave a quarterback. fully guaranteed
- 36:24contract and gave up multiple picks that they
- 36:29could have used to put this team in the right
- 36:31direction that's what it's about and it's sad
- 36:37because for rookies who are walking to the situation
- 36:42and have no control whatsoever you got to be
- 36:46in this you got to be in this for a couple years
- 36:49it's not good If I'm Jared verse I Would be on
- 36:56the phone with my agent the minute that clock
- 36:59hit triple zeros and say get me out of here I
- 37:04Don't care where you take me get me out of here
- 37:07feed a story to Schefter Rappaport Garofalo Pellicero
- 37:11whoever Get me out of here. I can't do this I'm
- 37:18used to winning football if I'm Denzel Ward I
- 37:22want out as well. Let me tell you something.
- 37:26No one is going to think less of you if you decide
- 37:29to leave. No one. I don't care who it is. It
- 37:35could be a radio host, it could be a podcaster,
- 37:37it could be a fan. No one is going to think less
- 37:41of you if you decide to leave Denzel Ward because
- 37:45you deserve better. You are a, you are better.
- 37:49than the trash heap that you are in right now.
- 37:53You did not cause any of this. This is because
- 37:57of poor decision -making. You want to know how
- 38:01bad this decision -making is? I decided to do
- 38:05some digging just to see what did all of those
- 38:10picks turn into that the Texas received from
- 38:12Trading Way Deshaun Watson. Let's go down memory
- 38:15lane, okay? So the Browns, of course, received
- 38:19Deshaun Watson in a 2024 fifth round pick. The
- 38:22Texans received a 2022 first, which was the 13th
- 38:26overall pick, a 2023 first, a 2024 first, a 2023
- 38:33third, and a 2024 fourth. Now with the first
- 38:37pick that the Texans used from the Deshaun Watson
- 38:40trade, they traded with the Eagles for the 15th
- 38:43pick, the 124th pick, and the 162nd pick. And
- 38:50with those picks, the Texans drafted Kenyon Green
- 38:54in the first round. Guard, right? He started
- 38:5714 games as a rookie. But according to next gen
- 39:01stats via ESPN, Kenyon Green allowed a 13 % pressure
- 39:06rate. Now it's safe to say that he was probably
- 39:10bussed because he's not on the team right now.
- 39:12I don't think he's on any team right now, actually.
- 39:15Okay, cool. So then the Texans packaged the 124th
- 39:21pick for the Brown's second round pick, which
- 39:23was the 44th pick, and they drafted John Meche.
- 39:27Now, here are his stats when he was with the
- 39:30Texas. So in 2023, of course, he started no games,
- 39:34but he played in 15 games. Now in that span,
- 39:39he had 30 targets for 16 receptions. 158 receiving
- 39:43yards and he averaged 9 .9 receiving yards per
- 39:46reception in 2024 he started three games and
- 39:51played in 12 games and he had 37 targets for
- 39:5524 receptions 254 receiving yards one receiving
- 39:59touchdown and 10 .6 receiving yards per reception
- 40:02so he didn't do the best granted he had uh i
- 40:07think it was leukemia if i'm not mistaken so
- 40:12You know, he couldn't really do as much, but
- 40:14he's still finding his way in the league. Let's
- 40:16go with Christian Harris. So in 2022, he started
- 40:19in 11 games and played in 12 games. He played
- 40:21692 snaps and he had 74 tackles, one sack, seven
- 40:28quarterback pressures and one pick. In 23, he
- 40:32started 12 games and played in 16 games. He played
- 40:36712 snaps and he had 100 tackles, two sacks.
- 40:41in six quarterback pressures. In 24, he started
- 40:45in three games and played in three games, and
- 40:48he played 162 snaps, and he had 20 tackles, one
- 40:53sack, and two quarterback pressures. In 25, he
- 40:58only started in one game and played in seven
- 41:01games, and he played 87 snaps, and he only had
- 41:05eight tackles. Now I don't know what happened.
- 41:09But clearly something significantly happened
- 41:12for you to go from playing in a majority of the
- 41:15season and having over 500 snaps To the last
- 41:20season you only played 87 snaps and you only
- 41:23started in one game and played in seven games
- 41:26Clearly there's a problem there now with the
- 41:29Browns 2022 fourth round pick the Texans drafted
- 41:33Damian Pierce Now in 2022 Damian Pierce started
- 41:37and played in 13 games And he had 220 rushing
- 41:41attempts for 939 rushing yards, 4 .3 rushing
- 41:45yards per carry, 4 rushing touchdowns, 4 fumbles,
- 41:48and he had 22 rushes of 10 plus yards or more.
- 41:52In 23, he started in 7 games and played in 13
- 41:55games. And he had 145 rushing attempts for 416
- 42:00rushing yards, 2 .9 rushing yards per carry,
- 42:032 rushing touchdowns, and 9 rushes of 10 plus
- 42:06yards or more. In 24, he didn't start in any
- 42:09games, but he played in eight games, right? And
- 42:12he had 40 rushing attempts for 293 rushing yards,
- 42:167 .3 rushing yards per carry, two rushing touchdowns,
- 42:19one fumble, and six rushes of 10 plus yards or
- 42:22more. So in 23, we're getting to the good part,
- 42:26right? The Texans had the second overall pick,
- 42:29and they decided to draft CJ Stroud. Now in 23,
- 42:34He started and played in 15 games. He had 499
- 42:39passing attempts for 319 completions, 4108 passing
- 42:44yards, 23 passing touchdowns, 5 interceptions,
- 42:488 .2 yards per attempt, and a 63 .9 completion
- 42:51percentage. He won Rookie of the Year. Cool!
- 42:55In 24, he started and played in 17 games. He
- 42:59had 532 passing attempts for 336 completions,
- 43:043727 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns, 12
- 43:09interceptions, 7 yards per attempt, and a 63
- 43:12.2 completion percentage. In 25, he started and
- 43:17played in 14 games. and he had 423 passing attempts
- 43:21for 273 completions, 3 ,041 passing yards, 19
- 43:26passing touchdowns, eight interceptions, 7 .2
- 43:29yards per attempt and a 64 .5 completion percentage.
- 43:33Now I don't know what happened with CJ Stroud,
- 43:36but clearly he has declined significantly. Because
- 43:41after that first year, I believe that CJ Stroud,
- 43:45would have been a top 10 quarterback. That rookie
- 43:48year was a rookie year that we have not seen
- 43:52in a really long time. And to just see him decline
- 43:56the way that he has in the last few years, it
- 44:00makes you question, is it a coaching thing? Is
- 44:03it a him thing? What exactly is happening, right?
- 44:07Let's keep things going. The Texans used the
- 44:11Browns' 2023 first rounder, which was the 12th
- 44:14overall pick, along with a second and a 2024
- 44:18fourth to the Cardinals for the third overall
- 44:21pick and a fourth round pick. The Texans drafted
- 44:24Will Anderson. Great pick, right? So in 2023,
- 44:29he started in 13 games and played in 15 games.
- 44:33He played 589 snaps and had 45 tackles and 7
- 44:38sacks. He won Defensive Rookie of the Year. Cool.
- 44:42So in 24, he started and played in 14 games,
- 44:46he played 536 snaps, had 37 tackles and 11 sacks.
- 44:52We're getting somewhere. In 25, he started and
- 44:56played in 17 games, played 654 snaps, had 54
- 45:01tackles and 12 sacks. We're cooking with Hot
- 45:05Grease now. Now the Texans packaged the Browns
- 45:09third round pick to trade up into draft Tank
- 45:12Dell So if Tank Dell in 23 he started in eight
- 45:17games and played in 11 games and He was targeted
- 45:2175 times for 47 receptions 709 receiving yards
- 45:26several receiving touchdowns and the average
- 45:2915 .1 receiving yards per reception in 24 he
- 45:33started in 10 games played in 14 games, and he
- 45:37was targeted 81 times for 51 receptions, 667
- 45:42receiving yards, three receiving touchdowns,
- 45:45and the average 13 .1 receiving yards per reception.
- 45:48So in 24, the Texans traded the Browns' 2024
- 45:51first round pick, which was the 23rd overall
- 45:54pick, to the Vikings for their second, their
- 45:57sixth, and their 2025 second. The Texans used
- 46:01the 2025 second to trade for Stefan Diggs. Now
- 46:05in that time, they used the 42nd overall pick
- 46:10to draft Kamari Lasseter. So in 24, he started
- 46:14and played in 14 games, and he had 58 tackles,
- 46:17three quarterback pressures, three interceptions.
- 46:21In 25, he started and played in 16 games, had
- 46:2491 tackles, three quarterback pressures, and
- 46:27four interceptions. Now the 2023 4th, that was
- 46:32from the Cardinals was later traded to the Eagles
- 46:35for a 2024 3rd rounder which became Kaelin Bullock.
- 46:40So in 2024 Kaelin Bullock started 13 games and
- 46:44played in 17 games. He had 51 tackles and 5 interceptions.
- 46:49In 25 he started and played in 17 games and he
- 46:53had 64 tackles and 4 interceptions. Now the Texans
- 46:57used the Browns 4th round pick on Cade Stover
- 46:59and the Vikings sixth on Jamal Hill. So with
- 47:04Cade Stover in 24, he started in nine games and
- 47:08played in 15 games. And he was targeted 22 times
- 47:12for 15 receptions, 133 passing yards, one receiving
- 47:17touchdown, and the average 8 .9 receiving yards
- 47:20per reception. Cool. In 25, he started in seven
- 47:23games, played in nine games. He was targeted
- 47:2616 times for 12 receptions. 76 receiving yards
- 47:30in the average 6 .3 receiving yards per reception.
- 47:35Jamal Hill, there's no registered stats for him.
- 47:39So all in all, they had their bumps and bruises
- 47:43with those picks. But a lot of those players
- 47:46are currently on the roster right now and are
- 47:49contributing at a high level. Maybe not so much
- 47:51as CJ Stroud, but. That's another story for another
- 47:54day. We're not gonna talk about that Okay, no
- 47:56disrespect to CJ Stroud at all. Look at all those
- 47:58players that they got from those picks You mean
- 48:01to tell me that the Browns didn't want will Anderson
- 48:05to pair up? with Miles Garrett Are you serious?
- 48:12Imagine if the Browns use one of those picks
- 48:14to get will Anderson imagine if the Browns used
- 48:18one of those picks to get Kamari Lassiter or
- 48:21Kalen Bullock or take them. It's those types
- 48:24of decisions that can push a team back significantly
- 48:28to the point where that team that trade away,
- 48:33whatever player that they trade away will never
- 48:35be able to bounce back. And then the cherry on
- 48:41top with this move, the Browns gave Deshaun Watson
- 48:47a fully guaranteed contract. Five years. 230
- 48:52million a forty four point nine million dollar
- 48:55signing bonus 230 million both in total guarantees
- 48:59and guaranteed and He was supposed to be making
- 49:0246 million a year Now ask yourself this Browns
- 49:07fans Do you think Deshaun Watson was worth that
- 49:12money? No, okay next question Do you think Deshaun
- 49:23Watson was worth the hassle No, I Can't answer
- 49:31that for you guys. No You traded away Three first
- 49:38-round picks Even if you hit on two of those
- 49:45first -round picks regardless of what the player
- 49:47is That would have put the team in a better place
- 49:51than where they are right now and Depending on
- 49:54the players that they would have chose a problem
- 49:58would have kept miles Garrett on the team It's
- 49:59these type of decisions that can push a team
- 50:02back for years You're talking about a trade that
- 50:09has done cataclysmic damage to the Browns organization
- 50:13to the point where Don't even know if they will
- 50:18ever recover from this and I'm not saying this
- 50:21to you know Be one of those people that that
- 50:23makes a bunch of clips in and click bait and
- 50:26all other stuff I'm just having a real conversation
- 50:28with you guys Because we really need to assess
- 50:31the Deshaun Watson situation Here you have somebody
- 50:35who in the last maybe two years with the Texans
- 50:41Looked like an MVP And to see where he is right
- 50:46now, you would think this was a doppelganger
- 50:51or something. That's how bad he's playing. That's
- 50:54how inconsistent he has been, folks. I even decided
- 50:58to go down a wormhole just to see how bad this
- 51:02decline was. So we did a little bit of digging.
- 51:06So according to football reference, from 2018
- 51:09to 2020, Deshaun Watson's record, was 25 and
- 51:1422. Not bad. Could probably be a little bit better,
- 51:17right? 1 ,544 passing attempts for 1 ,060 completions,
- 51:2612 ,840 passing yards, 85 passing touchdowns,
- 51:3128 interceptions, 8 .3 yards per attempt, a 68
- 51:35.7 completion percentage, a 50 passing success
- 51:39rate, and a 104 .7 passer rating. That sounds
- 51:44good That sounds real good. That sounds like
- 51:48someone that's gonna be an MVP for years to come,
- 51:51right? Cool. Let me read to you this other stat
- 51:54From 2022 to 2025. This is when he's with the
- 51:58Browns He's 9 in 10 557 passing attempts for
- 52:05341 completions 3 ,365 passing yards 19 touchdowns
- 52:1312 interceptions, 6 yards per attempt, a 61 .2
- 52:17complete percentage, a 37 .3 passing success
- 52:21rate, and an 80 .7 passer rating. That is a significant
- 52:27decline. Now in this time, Joe Flacco, one of
- 52:34the few years that he actually played for the
- 52:36Browns, in 2023, He started and played in five
- 52:41games went four one They went to the playoffs.
- 52:44They went on a run Okay That was probably the
- 52:49closest chance that they had to going on a legitimate
- 52:53playoff run because they were that good Offensively
- 52:56they were cooking defensively you couldn't stop
- 52:59them Joe flacco stats that year 204 passing attempts
- 53:04for 123 completions 1616 passing yards, 13 touchdowns,
- 53:11eight interceptions, 7 .9 yards per attempt,
- 53:14and a 60 .3 complete percentage. Now I understand
- 53:18statistically you're probably thinking, how do
- 53:20you think that's better than Deshaun Watson?
- 53:24If you turn on that tape, you will see borderline
- 53:29vintage Joe Flacco with the Browns. So if Joe
- 53:35Flacco, With the same weapons that the Sean Watson
- 53:41had Can be more productive and can make this
- 53:46team a legitimate threat and I mean threat To
- 53:52the playoff contenders to the Super Bowl contenders
- 53:55What's the excuse because it doesn't make sense
- 53:58to me how you can just decline this bad You mean
- 54:02to tell me that you couldn't at least have one
- 54:04promising season, at least one. If you had at
- 54:07least one really good memorable year that everyone's
- 54:12going to talk about in Cleveland for years and
- 54:14years and years, I don't think nobody really
- 54:17would care. But for you to just not do any of
- 54:22the things that you did in Houston, I don't know,
- 54:28man. I don't know. But here, the nail in the
- 54:33coffin folks and this this might make me go on
- 54:37a rant quick just just real quick little rant
- 54:40okay this is what he said yesterday on media
- 54:45fueled expectations and I quote personally I
- 54:50think all that is for the media I think the media
- 54:55has this expectation that I'm supposed to throw
- 54:57over 400 yards and five touchdowns every week
- 55:01Until that happens, I guess it's going to be
- 55:04the same situation. My job is to make sure I'm
- 55:07operating well so we can try to get a win and
- 55:10keep moving forward from there." Let me read
- 55:16that to you one more time. This is what Deshaun
- 55:19Watson said on expectations and how he believes
- 55:23the media is fueling those expectations. This
- 55:27is what he says, and I quote, personally, I think
- 55:30all that is for the media. I think the media
- 55:33has this expectation that I'm supposed to throw
- 55:35for 400 yards and five touchdowns every week.
- 55:39Until that happens, I guess it's going to be
- 55:41the same situation. My job is to make sure I'm
- 55:45operating well so we can try to get a win and
- 55:47keep moving forward from there." I don't know
- 55:49if you realize this, Deshaun Watson, but if you
- 55:53get a fully guaranteed contract, the expectation,
- 55:57whether you realize it or not, whether you accept
- 56:00it or not, is for you to ball out every single
- 56:05game. Regardless if you win or lose, you are
- 56:08supposed to be one of the driving forces to keeping
- 56:11that team in the game. You're not supposed to
- 56:14be somebody that is keeping them out of the game.
- 56:17When you get certain contracts, there is a level
- 56:21of expectation that comes with it, okay? Just
- 56:25follow me for a moment. Okay, just really just
- 56:27really follow me for a moment my fellow football
- 56:29junkies say for instance Devin Weatherspoon perfect
- 56:32example, right? Before Christian Gonzalez got
- 56:35got his deal He resented the cornerback market.
- 56:39He was the highest paid corner. You know what
- 56:41he can't do on the first game of the season He
- 56:45can't give up multiple big plays He can't allow
- 56:50the receiver that he's facing Just have a historical
- 56:56game. You can't do that Because you know why
- 57:00the expectation is that you Ball out because
- 57:04the team says we believe in you so much. We are
- 57:07willing to reset the market Because we believe
- 57:11in your skills that much When you get a fully
- 57:15guaranteed deal Regardless if you like it or
- 57:18not You Deshaun Watson are supposed to be balling
- 57:22out You are supposed to be balling out in a way
- 57:26That stands out every single week and if you
- 57:32can't do that You can go to CFL You can go to
- 57:37UFL you can go anywhere Because clearly the NFL
- 57:41ain't for you And I get it the media will fuel
- 57:45a lot of expectations But everybody has been
- 57:48waiting for the Deshaun Watson of old to emerge
- 57:51in Cleveland and they have yet to see it. Instead,
- 57:57all we continue to see is a nothing burger. All
- 58:00we continue to see is a quarterback who quite
- 58:04frankly doesn't wanna be there. While you're
- 58:07recovering from your Achilles injury, you're
- 58:10making TikToks. Laughing, hee hee, ha ha, big
- 58:13old smile and everything. You wanna know what
- 58:17Patrick Mahomes was doing when he tore his ACL?
- 58:20The first thing he did was get on a plane and
- 58:24have the surgery because there is a level of
- 58:26expectation that comes with his contract Regardless
- 58:32if he likes it or not. There is a level of expectation
- 58:35that comes with the contract See it'll be different
- 58:40if he was only making five million a year ten
- 58:42million a year twelve million a year You know
- 58:44not necessarily a big contract. Nobody's really
- 58:48gonna care right but when you literally change
- 58:53the league to the point where other quarterbacks
- 58:57are trying to get the same type of structured
- 59:00contract as you received and literally went to
- 59:03court for it, and if you don't believe me, I
- 59:05made an episode about it, and if you still don't
- 59:08believe me, go on YouTube and type in Pablo Torre,
- 59:11NFLPA. He literally does an entire segment breaking
- 59:15down a court case between Lamar Jackson, Kyle
- 59:20Murray, Kirk Cousins, and I think it was one
- 59:24more quarterback who all were trying to get fully
- 59:27guaranteed contracts. And the owners as a whole
- 59:31came together and said, no. But you are the exception.
- 59:34If I'm Todd Monkin, if Deshaun Watson plays similar
- 59:38to how he played against Jacksonville, you're
- 59:41gonna have to put your Doris Sanders in. And
- 59:44this isn't me trying to rile up the Shador Sanders
- 59:47fan base, okay? But we have to be honest with
- 59:50ourself here, folks. How can you properly say
- 59:54you know what you have in a player if you are
- 59:58not willing to give them a legitimate chance?
- 1:00:04You can't say, well, we believe we have this
- 1:00:08and this and that player. You can't say that
- 1:00:10because you didn't give them a chance. The only
- 1:00:12chances that you give him is during the preseason.
- 1:00:16Put him in the fire. Let's just see what he can
- 1:00:19do. Sure, there's going to be some good plays.
- 1:00:22There's going to be some bad plays. There's going
- 1:00:24to be some head scratchers. There's going to
- 1:00:26be everything in between. But you are properly
- 1:00:30assessing what you have in Chador. Hell, if you
- 1:00:33want to, do the same thing for Dylan Gabriel.
- 1:00:36For all you know, you may have a future... Top
- 1:00:40five backup quarterback at best who knows you
- 1:00:44don't know you have to give these things a chance
- 1:00:47and If you're not willing to give these things
- 1:00:50a chance Then what are we doing? You made investments
- 1:00:55into the receiving core You made investments
- 1:00:58into the offensive line Now it's time for you
- 1:01:02to make a proper assessment and just say you
- 1:01:04know what we're not gonna go anywhere. We're
- 1:01:06not Any person that says the Browns are going
- 1:01:09to do something this year, you're lying to yourself.
- 1:01:11You're lying to yourself and somebody has paid
- 1:01:13you some under the table money. If they play
- 1:01:15well, maybe you don't have to take a quarterback
- 1:01:17in the first round next year if the quarterback
- 1:01:19class materializes and actually looks pretty
- 1:01:21good. But if you don't give them a chance and
- 1:01:25you draft a quarterback in the first round and
- 1:01:27that first round quarterback doesn't look well,
- 1:01:29and Shador Sanders or Dylan Gabriel outplays
- 1:01:33them, then what? Are you going to ship off Shador
- 1:01:35Sanders and Dylan Gabriel to justify that pick?
- 1:01:40I wouldn't, but it's not my team. Now let's talk
- 1:01:43about this Ohio State versus Texas game. So arch
- 1:01:46banding, 37 attempts for 23 completions, 195
- 1:01:50passing yards, 5 .3 yards per attempt, one touchdown,
- 1:01:53one interception. Hollywood smothers. 21 rushing
- 1:01:57carriers for 74 rushing yards, 3 .5 rushing yards
- 1:02:00per carry, and 2 rushing touchdowns. Emmet Mosley
- 1:02:03the 5th, 5 receptions for 65 receiving yards,
- 1:02:07and he averaged 13 receiving yards per reception.
- 1:02:10Julian Sayen, 32 attempts for 17 completions,
- 1:02:14278 passing yards, 8 .7 yards per attempt, 1
- 1:02:17touchdown and 1 interception. Jeremiah Smith,
- 1:02:208 receptions for 164 receiving yards and he averaged
- 1:02:2420 .4 receiving yards per reception and he had
- 1:02:26one touchdown. Bo Jackson, 19 Russian carries
- 1:02:30for 74 rushing yards and 3 .9 rushing yards per
- 1:02:33carry. As competitive as this rivalry is, Texas
- 1:02:36needed this win more than Ohio State. And the
- 1:02:39reason why I say that is because their last matchup,
- 1:02:42that Texas offense was dominated by Ohio State's
- 1:02:45defense. You're talking about a defense that
- 1:02:48produced multiple first rounders, Arville Reese,
- 1:02:53Sonny Stiles just to name a few, Caleb Downs.
- 1:02:57Now granted that Texas offense wasn't probably
- 1:03:00the best and they made up for it this off season
- 1:03:02by getting Cam Coleman and then you had Wingo
- 1:03:05and all the other moves that they made just to
- 1:03:08make things better for Arch and I'm and here
- 1:03:10I am thinking okay they have a much better team
- 1:03:13than what they did their past matchup Hopefully
- 1:03:16they can do something a little bit different.
- 1:03:18Hopefully they can start the game off in a better
- 1:03:20way. And they did it. For about two halves of
- 1:03:27this game, Ohio State had Texas in a chokehold
- 1:03:30until maybe the middle part of the third quarter.
- 1:03:34No matter what Texas would do, it still wasn't
- 1:03:37enough. They would get close. They would get
- 1:03:41into the red zone, but it still wasn't enough.
- 1:03:45It literally took Texas until the fourth quarter
- 1:03:48to score their first touchdown. I don't know
- 1:03:50what happened, but from the first touchdown they
- 1:03:53scored until the last touchdown they scored,
- 1:03:56Texas was locked in, and the tables started to
- 1:03:59turn, and here I am thinking Ohio State is gonna
- 1:04:02respond, and they didn't. In the last two quarters,
- 1:04:05Julian Sayen was 5 for 16 for 86 passing yards
- 1:04:09and no touchdowns according to the Columbus Dispatch.
- 1:04:13While Arch Manning, according to Zion Trimble
- 1:04:15from Texas Longhorn on SI, completed his last
- 1:04:1913 of 18 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown.
- 1:04:23In the last 12 minutes, the Longhorns finished
- 1:04:27the game with three straight touchdown drives
- 1:04:30of 12 plus plays. Something that no other team
- 1:04:34has done in 15 years. 15 years. No other team
- 1:04:40has done this, but Texas did it. In the fourth
- 1:04:43quarter alone, Julian Saen completed two of six
- 1:04:47passes for 29 yards. We are talking about a fall
- 1:04:52that will be talked about for years to come.
- 1:04:54I wouldn't be surprised if every single team
- 1:04:56that interviews him bring up those last 20 something
- 1:05:00minutes of the game to be specific because to
- 1:05:03see him play the way that he did in the first
- 1:05:05half and then compare it to how he played in
- 1:05:08the second half it's like two different people
- 1:05:11you and Jeremiah Smith was cooking in the first
- 1:05:14half but in the second half Jeremiah Smith couldn't
- 1:05:17catch the ball and you couldn't deliver the ball
- 1:05:20so what's the excuse? because there is none Texas
- 1:05:22locked in they made more plays than what you
- 1:05:26guys did at the right time and they won the game
- 1:05:29but here's the craziest part So according to
- 1:05:34Zion Trimble of Texas Longhorn on SI Texas is
- 1:05:39the first team to have defeated an AP number
- 1:05:42one ranked team while trailing 17 plus points
- 1:05:46I'm gonna say that again Texas is the first team
- 1:05:52to have defeated a number one AP ranked team
- 1:05:56while trailing 17 plus points. To lose the game
- 1:06:00the way that Ohio State lost it is demoralizing.
- 1:06:04And no matter what they do in their next matchups,
- 1:06:07it is not going to remove the sting that was
- 1:06:10left with this game. When you look at how Arch
- 1:06:13played those last few minutes, he was determined
- 1:06:16to win that game, come hell or high water. There
- 1:06:20were even times where he was like, you know what,
- 1:06:21bump this, I'ma run with the rock. If I need
- 1:06:24to. He did it whatever he needed to do to get
- 1:06:29in that end zone to put points on the board to
- 1:06:32shorten the deficit He did it and everybody bought
- 1:06:36in and that's why they won that game Now my question
- 1:06:40is this if they were to face one another in the
- 1:06:45playoffs Who do you think would win I? Want my
- 1:06:52Texas junkies I want my Ohio State junkies to
- 1:06:56let me know in the comments on our YouTube at
- 1:06:58football junkies pot, please because personally
- 1:07:02I Still believe in Ohio State But I could see
- 1:07:07why people would make the case that Texas would
- 1:07:11win it again But I guess we'll have to wait and
- 1:07:15see we're gonna continue to talk about college
- 1:07:17football Okay, this is just going to be a one
- 1:07:20-time occurrence This is going to be something
- 1:07:21that that we will be talking about as the year
