- 1:33Speaker 5: Whiz So twenty line Wheel.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Welcome, we have Sean Michael's coming up WWE superstar, two
- 1:40Speaker 1: time Hall of Famer. Really cool for me, I'm a
- 1:43Speaker 1: wrestling fan. I feel like a little bit though. Before
- 1:46Speaker 1: we get into the masters, I should tell you what
- 1:47Speaker 1: certain words mean for you non wrestling fans. Bloyd Eddie,
- 1:51Speaker 1: thank you? Like selling something? Do you know what that means?
- 1:56Speaker 3: No? No, okay.
- 1:57Speaker 1: If you were to sell a move, it's to sell
- 2:01Speaker 1: how much it hurts or or the impact of that move.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Like if I were to close line you and you
- 2:07Speaker 1: just went you You didn't sell it very hard. Oh okay,
- 2:09Speaker 1: but if I closed line the crap out of you
- 2:11Speaker 1: and I, yes, you sold it, that's selling, got it? Okay?
- 2:16Speaker 1: H Do you know what a heel is?
- 2:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's the bad guy. Correct, Like he's a design
- 2:22Speaker 3: to be the bad guy. What's the opposite of a
- 2:24Speaker 3: bad guy the hero?
- 2:26Speaker 1: No, dang it. So a face, a baby face, and
- 2:29Speaker 1: a heel. So I'll talk to Sean Michaels about turning
- 2:33Speaker 1: seeing a heel, which he had never been in the
- 2:34Speaker 1: history of his career. But that's that term. Heel means
- 2:38Speaker 1: a bad guy. So selling heel. Trying to think anything
- 2:42Speaker 1: else because we just finished the interview. You talk about babyface, Well, no,
- 2:45Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about heel. I just wanted you to
- 2:46Speaker 1: know the opposite of that.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Now, I know that forever now.
- 2:48Speaker 1: When I think about the Masters yesterday, I feel like
- 2:51Speaker 1: Rory was the baby face. Andy Schambeau was the heel.
- 2:54Speaker 1: But not everybody felt that way.
- 2:55Speaker 3: No, not according to the roars.
- 2:58Speaker 1: No, I feel like the roars were very Rory. Really
- 3:01Speaker 1: I do. Yeah, did you even watch it?
- 3:03Speaker 3: I watched the first two their first two holes, and
- 3:05Speaker 3: then I had to go to basketball. Oh so then
- 3:08Speaker 3: you have I watched on my phone. Yeah, now, but
- 3:10Speaker 3: I didn't watch it. Watch it. They would love to watch.
- 3:12Speaker 1: They were roaring Rory big time because Deschamba blew it.
- 3:15Speaker 1: After the first hole, You're like, he's in it, and
- 3:17Speaker 1: then all of a sudden he was out. And that
- 3:19Speaker 1: has to suck to me in the final group and
- 3:20Speaker 1: really not be in.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Because you're walking that entire round and you're not even
- 3:25Speaker 3: in contention.
- 3:25Speaker 1: And yeah, I'm sure he was so frustrated. So yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Deschambeau was not the baby face yesterday. I'm not even
- 3:32Speaker 1: gonna say it was the heel though, because he just
- 3:36Speaker 1: wasn't in it. So all right, we can start there.
- 3:41Speaker 1: You didn't watch It's Kevin? Did you watch it?
- 3:42Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Whenever Rory was walking up eighteen and Jim Nance was
- 3:47Speaker 1: given the story about his dad, I was like, there's
- 3:50Speaker 1: no way Rory cannot lose this now because they're walking
- 3:53Speaker 1: up and Jim Nance is like on the eighteenth Rory
- 3:57Speaker 1: back when he was a kid, which, by the way,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I didn't know Rory grew up. Kind of had no
- 4:00Speaker 1: idea that he grew up very like lower middle class
- 4:02Speaker 1: I just assume all golfers grow up rich and have money,
- 4:04Speaker 1: because his golf is a very expensive sport. And so
- 4:07Speaker 1: Nance's like when Rory was growing up, you know, we
- 4:10Speaker 1: heard this story recently. His dad had one more token
- 4:13Speaker 1: for the whole week. It's all he could afford. And
- 4:14Speaker 1: he took Rory to the range and Rory's walking up
- 4:17Speaker 1: step by step, and he says he put the token
- 4:22Speaker 1: in and got the thirty balls and he was like, Rory,
- 4:24Speaker 1: this is all we have until next week. So once
- 4:26Speaker 1: you hit every one of these balls, like it's your
- 4:28Speaker 1: last shot at the Masters, Yeah, and then wow, and
- 4:31Speaker 1: Ry comes up makes he didn't miss the PI, but
- 4:35Speaker 1: he ended up winning it, but he.
- 4:37Speaker 7: Ended a trap right after Jim said all that, and
- 4:39Speaker 7: he was like, dang it, Rory, come on.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Like that was like the one where they're in
- 4:45Speaker 1: a meeting and Nance's like, you know, I got the
- 4:47Speaker 1: one about the one token I can go to, but
- 4:49Speaker 1: I really have to go to it. Like he's walking
- 4:51Speaker 1: up eighteen about to win, and there's probably a thought
- 4:55Speaker 1: because at that point, Justin Rose had made the birdie
- 5:01Speaker 1: on eighteen, the long one, and so Rory's coming up
- 5:04Speaker 1: and all he has to do is par the hole. Yep,
- 5:07Speaker 1: And it does feel like possibly he's going to par
- 5:09Speaker 1: maybe even birdie the whole because he hadn't hit that
- 5:11Speaker 1: bad at second shot yet into the trap. Yeah, and
- 5:13Speaker 1: that drive was awesome, so he hadn't won yet, but
- 5:16Speaker 1: odds are he was at least going to par the hole.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And you know what odds are even when he got
- 5:20Speaker 1: to the putt, he was going to part the whole.
- 5:22Speaker 1: That a five foot putt. Yeah, that was like the
- 5:25Speaker 1: story that they had in the pocket for Rory coming
- 5:28Speaker 1: down winning, And I'm sure they had one for like
- 5:30Speaker 1: seven right of the people, like some final walk down
- 5:33Speaker 1: eighteen here it is. Yeah, but Nance, he threw it
- 5:36Speaker 1: out there and then I thought, oh, if that story
- 5:38Speaker 1: is used and he doesn't win.
- 5:39Speaker 7: And no, that's the first thing I thought about. I
- 5:42Speaker 7: was like, Nance's gotta be a little upset.
- 5:43Speaker 1: When he missed that putt. Yeah, I couldn't believe it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I was rooting for Rory a big time because I
- 5:48Speaker 1: bet on him. So I was in two different types
- 5:51Speaker 1: of money pool experiences. One I was just betting on
- 5:56Speaker 1: it on DraftKings, and then because I bet Rory to
- 5:58Speaker 1: win live bet after round two, and then I bet him.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Once the odds dropped where Justin Rose was the favorite,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I jumped back on Rory. So I made about a
- 6:08Speaker 1: thousand bucks yesterday.
- 6:09Speaker 6: Nice.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Although I was a little scared after he missed that putt.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I thought, no chance because the momentum was not with him. No.
- 6:18Speaker 1: It it was such a choke. It's such a choke
- 6:22Speaker 1: now to be he unchoked hard on the eighteenth, which
- 6:25Speaker 1: they replayed, and that was awesome. Oh, I felt so
- 6:28Speaker 1: bad for him, But I was rootined for Rory. But
- 6:33Speaker 1: to see everybody's hands go up on their head when
- 6:35Speaker 1: he missed that putt in slow motion because they re
- 6:37Speaker 1: showed him missed the putt and everybody or they did
- 6:40Speaker 1: the what do they call it, the cobra, the resting
- 6:42Speaker 1: cobra where they put their hands on the head and
- 6:43Speaker 1: their elbows go out. That was maybe one of the
- 6:47Speaker 1: biggest miss putt chokes I've ever seen.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Yeah, the whole day was just such a golf though.
- 6:54Speaker 7: Rory had two unbelievable shots.
- 6:56Speaker 6: Then he went in the water. Then he missed the putt,
- 6:59Speaker 6: but then then he ends up.
- 7:00Speaker 1: On like fifteen or sixteen that shot he hit into
- 7:02Speaker 1: the water. It was like an eighty eight yard pitch.
- 7:04Speaker 1: That was bad. That's not golf. If you're a pro,
- 7:06Speaker 1: that's golf of your eyes.
- 7:07Speaker 6: That's what I'm saying. He is us.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Yes, Well, that's like.
- 7:10Speaker 3: When Jordan Speed, like a few years ago, he chili dipped,
- 7:12Speaker 3: like would you never see a pro chili dip? But
- 7:15Speaker 3: it was the Masters.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a tough one. I'm glad Roy won.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I'm glad I won. I will give a big shout
- 7:20Speaker 1: out to Read because come on, baby, Reid ends up
- 7:23Speaker 1: betting on Justin Rose before where so this was he
- 7:27Speaker 1: was He was in fourth, and I was like, I
- 7:29Speaker 1: need to kind of keep an eye on him.
- 7:31Speaker 8: And then he dipped down to like ninth or tenth
- 7:33Speaker 8: and it was plus seven thousand. I was like, I'm
- 7:35Speaker 8: gonna come out of retirement for this. I'll put fifty
- 7:37Speaker 8: bucks on him at my plus seven thousand.
- 7:40Speaker 1: And he did and he hit us up and he goes,
- 7:42Speaker 1: should I cash out? And I immediately went yes, because
- 7:45Speaker 1: his fifty bucks made you how much?
- 7:46Speaker 8: Fifteen hundred dollars.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So he cashed out, thank god, because Rose ended up
- 7:50Speaker 1: losing in the playoff. Yeah, but Reid has the Midas touched.
- 7:54Speaker 8: I don't understand. I don't understand what happens. Honestly, the
- 7:57Speaker 8: cash out. I cashed out right when he made at
- 8:00Speaker 8: like fifteen foot birdie putt. But if I would have
- 8:03Speaker 8: waited until Rory missed his putt, just what I'm telling.
- 8:06Speaker 9: What the cash out.
- 8:08Speaker 1: But yeah, proud of myself.
- 8:09Speaker 6: You did great.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You have to stop doing that, becau. It's like good thing.
- 8:12Speaker 4: I know.
- 8:12Speaker 1: It was like after I cashed out, my butt was
- 8:15Speaker 1: still puss watchality and I'm like, no, it wasn't you
- 8:17Speaker 1: already catched out. It wasn't puckered. You're good, I know,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I know. But you also want ten dollars from all
- 8:23Speaker 1: of us for the basketball for Florida.
- 8:25Speaker 6: I forgot about that.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yeah, we got to tell you that I won.
- 8:28Speaker 5: He did.
- 8:29Speaker 1: He doesn't even know he won. That's so annoying about it. Yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 1: he doesn't even know he won.
- 8:33Speaker 8: Yeah, I guess I did.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Have you won the Natty Florida, right, Yeah, let's go Gators.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That's so you randomly picked.
- 8:40Speaker 8: That's crazy.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So we all owe you ten bucks from that, all right?
- 8:43Speaker 1: But it was a really it was a really good masters.
- 8:46Speaker 7: That was the most I've been into a golf match
- 8:48Speaker 7: in a very long time.
- 8:49Speaker 1: My expectation was watching one Thursday, watch No One Friday,
- 8:52Speaker 1: watch a little Saturday, and then catch the back end
- 8:55Speaker 1: of it on Sunday. But because the Rory and Bryson
- 8:58Speaker 1: thing was leading, I was like, I'll watch it beginning
- 9:00Speaker 1: and then I just stayed with it because Rory had
- 9:02Speaker 1: such a lead. It was a does he finally win
- 9:05Speaker 1: his one that he hadn't you know, to complete, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 1: the Grand Slam? And does he finally after eleven years?
- 9:13Speaker 1: That's what's crazy that he didn't want a master or
- 9:15Speaker 1: excuse me, a major major almost eleven years that you
- 9:19Speaker 1: had won all the others that long ago. So it's cool. Look,
- 9:23Speaker 1: I don't know what kind of guy Rory is. I
- 9:25Speaker 1: feel like people like him. That being said, he knocked
- 9:27Speaker 1: the phone out of the guy's hand, you know, a
- 9:29Speaker 1: few weeks ago his issues. Bryson said, Rory didn't talk
- 9:33Speaker 1: to him at all that day. But they have big hate. Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 1: they live PGA tour Like who cares? I want rivalry? Yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I want them to be heels and baby faces. But
- 9:44Speaker 1: I was rooting for Rory the whole plus was rooting
- 9:47Speaker 1: for Rory, like crazy.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Oh yeah, every time that scoreboard.
- 9:49Speaker 7: I love those shots that they had of the scoreboard
- 9:51Speaker 7: going live where the guys putting it up in the
- 9:52Speaker 7: whole crowd on a eighteen or whatever it was there.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Oh, just like you said, that was the best.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Because it's like the Red Sox scoreboard where they pulled
- 9:59Speaker 1: the yeah man, you witch it. Yeah, and they did,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and the place would go crazy because there's no way
- 10:03Speaker 1: to see it on your phone if you're not there
- 10:04Speaker 1: because you can't have your phone, so nobody knew until
- 10:08Speaker 1: they switched it up on the board if you weren't
- 10:09Speaker 1: watching it. But it was a good one.
- 10:12Speaker 6: It was fun.
- 10:12Speaker 1: It was I watched almost the whole thing, and my
- 10:14Speaker 1: wife sat down for like twenty minutes and she was like,
- 10:16Speaker 1: how do you watch this? And I said, well, I
- 10:19Speaker 1: find it entertaining. And I said, here's the storyline that
- 10:21Speaker 1: everybody's following. And she goes, well, if you gave me
- 10:23Speaker 1: a storyline about pain drying, it's still be boring his crap.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And I said, yeah, but it's the biggest. It's it's
- 10:28Speaker 1: the one. And she's like, if it were the biggest
- 10:30Speaker 1: paint dry I still wouldn't watch. She goes, I don't
- 10:32Speaker 1: find this entertaining at all.
- 10:33Speaker 3: And then she, yeah, my wife's is the same.
- 10:34Speaker 1: She jumped out. My wife like she will play golf,
- 10:38Speaker 1: and she's actually kind of good, like better than she
- 10:41Speaker 1: should be, considering she never plays. Although the one time
- 10:46Speaker 1: we went on a vacation up went to Branson, and
- 10:51Speaker 1: near Branson is that place that Johnny Morris own's. It's
- 10:55Speaker 1: a really nice hotel and he's like, you can come
- 10:56Speaker 1: stay up here, and it has golf courses, like, we'll
- 10:59Speaker 1: put you on our golf course, and he has some
- 11:00Speaker 1: really great golf courses. That Tiger Woods golf course is
- 11:03Speaker 1: up there. And so we go and I tell my
- 11:05Speaker 1: wife this is the first time we've ever played like eighteen.
- 11:08Speaker 1: And her parents are there too, and I'm like, hey,
- 11:09Speaker 1: we're gonna go. We're gonna play nine. You go in
- 11:11Speaker 1: the club, aush eat, you play nine more. It's like
- 11:14Speaker 1: three and a half four hours and we're done. And
- 11:15Speaker 1: so we go. We play nine, and we go in,
- 11:17Speaker 1: we grab a little food on a plate, get back
- 11:19Speaker 1: in the car and drive off. She said, who like what,
- 11:21Speaker 1: she goes, We didn't eat, we just grab food. I'm like,
- 11:23Speaker 1: what do you She goes, Oh, I thought we had
- 11:24Speaker 1: like dinner, like like you sit down and have like No,
- 11:28Speaker 1: she goes, this sucks, it's terrible.
- 11:31Speaker 6: You have a hot dog.
- 11:32Speaker 9: You keep going.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you love me to believe her having this big,
- 11:34Speaker 1: big meal halfway through. Uh yeah, it's fun. It's fun
- 11:37Speaker 1: and Red made some money. We love that for you.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Read's only got two more weeks of the show and
- 11:41Speaker 1: he's out two more weeks.
- 11:44Speaker 9: You're gonna live it up.
- 11:45Speaker 8: Just soak it all in.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Man, moving to Saint Louis.
- 11:47Speaker 8: Moving to Saint Louis. How close is that to Branson?
- 11:50Speaker 1: I don't know. They're both in Missouri.
- 11:53Speaker 3: Can't be that far.
- 11:55Speaker 1: That's right. Are you nervous.
- 11:57Speaker 8: I'm a little nervous, but I think it's more bittersweet.
- 12:01Speaker 8: I'm excited.
- 12:02Speaker 1: How so, uh, just something new.
- 12:04Speaker 8: I mean, I haven't been with my girl for five years,
- 12:07Speaker 8: we haven't lived in the same town for five years,
- 12:10Speaker 8: and so just being being with each other every day
- 12:13Speaker 8: for the most part. She's gonna be super busy with school.
- 12:15Speaker 8: But I'm just really excited for that. And what's the
- 12:17Speaker 8: better part, the bitter part obviously leaving you guys.
- 12:20Speaker 3: Oh, it's just us. Yeah, that's cool.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Three hours fifty two minutes. It's about the same as
- 12:24Speaker 1: it is to hear Oh it is yea to get
- 12:26Speaker 1: to Branson. Sorry man, yeah, sorry, buddy man.
- 12:28Speaker 8: Win, lose, lose, I guess bitter bitter?
- 12:32Speaker 1: What part What are the lose?
- 12:34Speaker 8: I have no idea what the losses?
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah? Okay, uh so, yeah that happened. I had two
- 12:39Speaker 1: notes for two sporting things that happened this weekend. Why
- 12:41Speaker 1: didn't you get to watch any of it? You're the
- 12:42Speaker 1: one that was talking about.
- 12:43Speaker 3: It's my favorite time of the year.
- 12:45Speaker 1: You're not gonna watch everything.
- 12:47Speaker 3: It's a weird thing. So my kids do tournament basketball, right,
- 12:50Speaker 3: and it's very strange because I root for my kids.
- 12:52Speaker 3: I love my kids, and I want them to win
- 12:54Speaker 3: every game they play. However, if they win on Saturday,
- 12:59Speaker 3: they play two games on Sunday for the championship, and
- 13:03Speaker 3: that really they won on Sunday. They won on Saturday.
- 13:06Speaker 3: So here I am Sunday. I'm like, I'm gonna miss
- 13:08Speaker 3: the Masters because I'm gonna have to go watch two
- 13:10Speaker 3: dumb games of basketball. And it's not two hours of basketball,
- 13:14Speaker 3: it's one hour, and then you wait two more hours
- 13:17Speaker 3: and watch other games happen. And then they play. So dude,
- 13:20Speaker 3: my four hours was wasted in Lebanon, Tennessee. I had
- 13:24Speaker 3: to watch the stupid game on my phone, which I
- 13:26Speaker 3: could barely see. On your phone, you can't see the
- 13:28Speaker 3: score like you have no idea what's happening. You just
- 13:30Speaker 3: see people hit balls. You don't even know where the
- 13:32Speaker 3: ball landed. It was so stupid and I was so upset.
- 13:35Speaker 3: But my kid won. He won the championship, all right,
- 13:37Speaker 3: but I didn't care. I want one.
- 13:40Speaker 1: It was the best Masters in ten years.
- 13:42Speaker 7: Oh since like Tiger, I guess since Tiger wanted just
- 13:45Speaker 7: because it was Tiger's coming back. But even that wasn't
- 13:46Speaker 7: I don't feel as the back and forth as what
- 13:48Speaker 7: it was.
- 13:49Speaker 3: Thank you, guys. I already heard your recount.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I'm telling to hear it again. I watched the whole thing.
- 13:53Speaker 1: I did not expect to stuff.
- 13:54Speaker 3: You didn't understand, man.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I did bet one of your UFC parley legs.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Wonderful.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Did you hit no?
- 14:01Speaker 8: Oh?
- 14:01Speaker 3: No, I got one out of three.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Oh, I probably want to have bet. Then I bet
- 14:05Speaker 1: Chandler over two and a half.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Oh that's why, yeah, why I.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Hit that one?
- 14:09Speaker 3: So you didn't do the parlay. You just picked the one.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I didn't remember the other two bucks in the parlay,
- 14:14Speaker 1: So I knew the Michael Chandler fight. That's only one
- 14:16Speaker 1: that I even cared to see what because he lost?
- 14:18Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, So I just bet that. I remember
- 14:22Speaker 1: me saying over two and a half.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Did you watch it?
- 14:24Speaker 9: No?
- 14:24Speaker 10: Oh?
- 14:24Speaker 3: You didn't buy it?
- 14:25Speaker 9: No?
- 14:26Speaker 1: Because I didn't know anything else going on, Okay, like
- 14:28Speaker 1: if Rory was fighting on watching it and Bryson, Yeah, no,
- 14:32Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 14:33Speaker 3: It was terrible because like my parlay was the first
- 14:36Speaker 3: fight of the main card, and that's the one I
- 14:38Speaker 3: lost immediately, So it's like, great, did you hate when
- 14:41Speaker 3: you lose the first leg of the parlay? And it's like, well,
- 14:44Speaker 3: now what am I watching for?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Did you watch all of it?
- 14:46Speaker 3: I did? I watch the whole thing.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Had a Chandler fight terrible?
- 14:49Speaker 3: It went. It was weird because he when he walked
- 14:51Speaker 3: up to the ring, his eyes looked glossy, and I
- 14:54Speaker 3: was like, the first thing I thought was like, yeah, dude,
- 14:56Speaker 3: Nashville allergies are terrible, so he's probably not even feeling
- 14:59Speaker 3: good walking before the fight. And now, dude, Patty the
- 15:02Speaker 3: Batty is just too too good, Like he's crazy, he's awesome,
- 15:07Speaker 3: and he just beat the crap out of Michael Chandler.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I saw Patty the Baddy, I don't know, fighting like
- 15:13Speaker 1: lipping with some dude backstage after a fight. But don't
- 15:16Speaker 1: we feel like all that's set up now? Kind of
- 15:18Speaker 1: like wrestling. I don't know, dude, we're like him and
- 15:20Speaker 1: another guy in a suit who's a fighter. We're yelling
- 15:22Speaker 1: at each other like talking crap. But don't we feel
- 15:23Speaker 1: like that's all set up for the next fight?
- 15:25Speaker 3: I would say yes, But there was one time, I
- 15:29Speaker 3: think last year where they you know, sometimes when there's
- 15:32Speaker 3: like a fight going on, there's seven or eight UFC
- 15:36Speaker 3: fighters that are watching the fight, and the camera will
- 15:38Speaker 3: go to him like, oh, here's whatever, Sean whatever, and
- 15:41Speaker 3: he waves the camera. Well, they put it to this
- 15:44Speaker 3: guy and he's like, look coming up in a couple
- 15:46Speaker 3: of weeks, he's gonna be fighting that guy. And he
- 15:48Speaker 3: walks over and literally walks. I think you saw it.
- 15:51Speaker 3: He walks over some steps and starts punching the dude
- 15:53Speaker 3: and they start fighting in the crowd.
- 15:54Speaker 1: That was not fake at all, but I still think
- 15:57Speaker 1: that's probably fake test. I'm being honest. Yeah. Oh I
- 15:59Speaker 1: don't know, oh man, because it's like whenever they do
- 16:02Speaker 1: the weigh ins and they start fighting and if people
- 16:04Speaker 1: pull them apart, that's always set up. I don't think
- 16:07Speaker 1: you have. Yeah, the promotion of it, well, you don't
- 16:11Speaker 1: think that's just pure promotion.
- 16:13Speaker 3: No, because some guys they just like you know, they
- 16:15Speaker 3: do the pose and then they give each other hugs
- 16:16Speaker 3: like we can't wait to fight, you man, don't the.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Big ones, they're always John or somebody swinging. That's always
- 16:23Speaker 1: set up.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Connor McGregor was good at the FEU.
- 16:26Speaker 6: I was gonna say, what about the when he threw
- 16:27Speaker 6: it with a chair at the bus or whatever.
- 16:29Speaker 9: I don't know that one.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Connor River is crazy man, like he was chunking chairs.
- 16:34Speaker 6: I think they told him to do one thing and
- 16:35Speaker 6: he just took it to another level.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I think the promotion is still performative, yeah, even boxing,
- 16:42Speaker 1: because they're talking all this mess mostly just getting people interested.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But the fighting is real. But I do think all
- 16:48Speaker 1: the promotion or most of the promotion is performative.
- 16:51Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Otherwise after they do all this, they talk so much
- 16:53Speaker 1: crap and they fight, then they hug it after a match. Dude,
- 16:55Speaker 1: if I hate somebody so bad and they beat the
- 16:57Speaker 1: crap out of me, I ain't hugging on the right.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So I'm surprised you're so naive.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I've I've seen both. I've seen where they fought before
- 17:06Speaker 3: the fight, and I've seen where they just like, there's
- 17:07Speaker 3: no feud here. We're just gonna fight each other.
- 17:09Speaker 1: And that's okay. But I'm saying the ones where they
- 17:10Speaker 1: do throw at each other, those are ninety percent set.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Up disrespecting each other is what they say. He disrespected
- 17:17Speaker 3: me when you're talking about my mom like that.
- 17:20Speaker 1: The Parks are one of the Masters. Not only do
- 17:22Speaker 1: they get their name on the trophy, they give get
- 17:26Speaker 1: a gold medal at three point four inch two pounds
- 17:28Speaker 1: gold medal, it says Masters.
- 17:30Speaker 3: And gold is like up right now it is.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I don't think you're gonna melt it down and sell it, but.
- 17:34Speaker 9: I do hear you, Celtic.
- 17:35Speaker 1: They have the honor of getting to choose the menu
- 17:37Speaker 1: for the following year's Masters Champion dinner. You get a
- 17:40Speaker 1: permanent invite to that dinner.
- 17:42Speaker 3: What do you mean they choose the menu?
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yeah, every year.
- 17:44Speaker 3: So like, if I win, I can say, like, we're
- 17:46Speaker 3: all eating pizza.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a new story. Every year they show
- 17:49Speaker 1: the menu of the person that won the year before
- 17:52Speaker 1: and all they pick because I.
- 17:53Speaker 8: Think Scheffler did like burgers or something.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And confetti ca Yeah, oh that's cool. You get to
- 17:58Speaker 1: pick the menu. The wives of the winners are unofficially
- 18:01Speaker 1: designated the recipients of a locket in the shape of
- 18:04Speaker 1: the Master's logo. You have an honorary lifetime membership to
- 18:08Speaker 1: Augusta National access to champions locker room. You also get
- 18:12Speaker 1: the Champion's Driving Range, which I talked about last week.
- 18:16Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 18:16Speaker 1: Winners permanently qualify for the Masters and receive automatic invites
- 18:21Speaker 1: for the next five years to the Open, the British Open,
- 18:23Speaker 1: the PGA Championship, and as far as the money goes,
- 18:25Speaker 1: it goes up every year. I think four point two
- 18:28Speaker 1: million was what it was yesterday. Four point three If
- 18:30Speaker 1: you win it, that's pretty legit.
- 18:33Speaker 8: Yeah, you could still come in fiftieth and win like
- 18:35Speaker 8: fifty grand.
- 18:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta make the cut. Whoever makes the cut
- 18:39Speaker 3: makes money crazy.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I think they may now have because of lip started
- 18:44Speaker 1: to pay in some events non cut makers because people
- 18:48Speaker 1: were like, welly am I going to go play? Because
- 18:50Speaker 1: you spend all your own money. PJA doesn't pay for anything,
- 18:53Speaker 1: So you have to find your own housing and get
- 18:54Speaker 1: to pay for everything.
- 18:55Speaker 3: It's not like you're touring so but you have sponsors
- 18:58Speaker 3: that's why you wear the.
- 18:59Speaker 1: But you can tour and have sponsors too, like they
- 19:01Speaker 1: can pay for your bus, but everything has to be
- 19:03Speaker 1: accounted for. Nobody's paying for it, Like a sponsor just
- 19:06Speaker 1: goes I'll pay you this amount of money to wear stuff.
- 19:07Speaker 1: But you have to figure out. You have to allocate
- 19:09Speaker 1: all the money yourself, so you have to pay for everything.
- 19:11Speaker 1: You're basically just an employee of yourself. What do you
- 19:16Speaker 1: call those sure that whatever you're going to say, contract,
- 19:21Speaker 1: thank you depend a contractor. So if you do all
- 19:26Speaker 1: that and you still don't make the cut and you
- 19:27Speaker 1: make no money, you're like, I just spent all this time,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and Live was paying their players bucket loads of money.
- 19:33Speaker 1: So there was a rule change and modification for some
- 19:39Speaker 1: maybe not all that. Everybody got paid even if you
- 19:42Speaker 1: missed the cut, Like if you were invited to play
- 19:44Speaker 1: in the tournament, you got paid.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Your expenses were at least you're a pro.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So we're still going to pay you since you played professional.
- 19:50Speaker 6: Did you see the kid pee in the river?
- 19:52Speaker 1: I saw on the practice round, the Arizona State kid
- 19:55Speaker 1: who peed in the river. It was a big deal.
- 19:56Speaker 1: For a second, his hat. He also had the riding
- 19:58Speaker 1: upside down on his head and that was a big
- 20:00Speaker 1: deal too.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Really.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Yeah, they just look for things to make big deals
- 20:03Speaker 1: out up before it starts.
- 20:04Speaker 6: But there was a practice round. It wasn't even the first.
- 20:05Speaker 3: It was practice rounk oh I Peter pell Beach. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 3: but that's not the Masters, that's not the river.
- 20:12Speaker 9: In the ocean, cool.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Cliff, No, somebody's backyard.
- 20:15Speaker 1: Yeah, oh different, my man. Different. We do have Sean
- 20:18Speaker 1: Michael's coming up, so we'll get to him. Russell Mania
- 20:22Speaker 1: is this weekend Friday and Saturday, but also n XT,
- 20:25Speaker 1: which is kind of the version I would say, like
- 20:28Speaker 1: the minor league baseball, college football of the WWE. They
- 20:31Speaker 1: have a big event that day. We'll talk to him
- 20:32Speaker 1: in a second. But let's I mean, we can look
- 20:35Speaker 1: at the parlay. I do have it up here now,
- 20:37Speaker 1: the DraftKings parlay. You picked Chandler over pa. Oh you
- 20:41Speaker 1: did one point five rounds?
- 20:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess I got at two point five and
- 20:44Speaker 3: it was two point five at the start of the fight.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't better if I didn't know that's what and
- 20:49Speaker 1: you still hit it.
- 20:50Speaker 3: We hit it by like twenty seconds, thirty seconds.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Maybe, Wait, but you bet one point five, so you
- 20:56Speaker 1: hit a big time.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Well yeah, that was part of the parlay. But I
- 20:58Speaker 3: lost that parlay, so I had to rebet it.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Diego Lopez he lost, and Love lost. Those are two people.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Diego Lopez close fight. I think he could have won it.
- 21:09Speaker 3: He was close to in it, but he lost. Man
- 21:11Speaker 3: that first one, he got knocked out, so no chance
- 21:13Speaker 3: to win that one.
- 21:14Speaker 1: We can build NBA parlay hawks at Magic. This is
- 21:18Speaker 1: on Tuesday, Dude, I don't even know who wants to
- 21:20Speaker 1: play anymore because I watched the Lakers and Warriors and
- 21:24Speaker 1: now the Lakers are the three and they're playing Minnesota
- 21:27Speaker 1: as the six. That's a fun series. That's almost a
- 21:29Speaker 1: great Yeah, it's almost too tough for the Lakers. You
- 21:31Speaker 1: kind of wish the Lakers had a better draw so
- 21:34Speaker 1: they could last a little longer, because you would hate
- 21:37Speaker 1: to see Lebron and Luca go down first. I'm not
- 21:42Speaker 1: a Lakers fan, but I like to see bigger teams
- 21:46Speaker 1: and bigger shots. Hawks at Magic. I don't, dude, I
- 21:50Speaker 1: don't know. Just go Hawks, Man, no magic, magic but
- 21:54Speaker 1: magic five and a half point listen, I literally don't care.
- 21:57Speaker 1: See you can make it at a Hawks and Magic
- 22:00Speaker 1: Magic at five and a half point five.
- 22:01Speaker 3: I like Trey Young, Let's just go Hawks.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So you're taking the points Hawks plus five and a
- 22:06Speaker 1: half Okay, Grizz Warriors Warriors six and a half point favorites?
- 22:12Speaker 3: Talking to you, Eddie, you all you want me to
- 22:13Speaker 3: pick that one too?
- 22:14Speaker 1: Sure?
- 22:15Speaker 3: I like the Grizz. Let's go with the home team.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'd probably go Grizz too, just because the Warriors don't
- 22:18Speaker 1: really have anything to play for right now. Okay, so
- 22:23Speaker 1: we're going two underdogs with the points. Some such dice tosses,
- 22:27Speaker 1: especially this late. It's like Week eighteen of NFL.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Where you're like, I don't know, Man.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Over under Hawks and Magic over to sixteen.
- 22:37Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Good luck, good luck with that one. Everybody download the

- 23:26Speaker 2: Two time WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Shawn Michaels. He's
- 23:30Speaker 2: been in twice, once as a member of Degeneration X,
- 23:34Speaker 2: which by the way, got a lot of kids in
- 23:36Speaker 2: trouble back in the day.
- 23:37Speaker 1: What do you mean, Yeah, they didn't suck yea, he
- 23:40Speaker 1: did that thing. We have to keep Eddy away from
- 23:43Speaker 1: any wrestling tik man.
- 23:45Speaker 3: My kids did that. The other day and I'm like,
- 23:47Speaker 3: you can know what you're doing.
- 23:48Speaker 1: But that was like when we were younger.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but they're still doing it. Kids still do it.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Maybe they just were just saying sucking to say it.
- 23:53Speaker 1: Probably Sean is one of the most memorable guys ever
- 23:56Speaker 1: to wrestle, but he's no an executive and he runs
- 24:00Speaker 1: NXT some graduates of NXT and he talks about this
- 24:03Speaker 1: Roman reigned seth Rollins. Big thanks to Shawn Michaels for
- 24:06Speaker 1: coming on. You can check them out on social media
- 24:08Speaker 1: at Shawn Michaels. Here he is Shawn Michaels. Hey, Shawn,
- 24:12Speaker 1: first off, thanks for the time man, big fan.
- 24:14Speaker 9: My pleasure. Thank you very much for having me.
- 24:16Speaker 1: We were fortunate enough to go to Stone Colds house.
- 24:18Speaker 1: He invited us out and we spent the day with him.
- 24:20Speaker 1: And you know, we've we have been pretty lucky with
- 24:23Speaker 1: a bunch of professional wrestlers that have come on. And
- 24:26Speaker 1: I've been a wrestling fan for a long time. And
- 24:28Speaker 1: my you know, my takeaway as always when I see
- 24:32Speaker 1: someone do a move that I know hurts, yet you
- 24:34Speaker 1: still have to continue to wrestle. Like I saw bron
- 24:36Speaker 1: Breaker Spear, somebody of the day and one of the
- 24:38Speaker 1: hardest spears I've ever seen, Like like that has to
- 24:41Speaker 1: hurt so bad that I don't know how you're able
- 24:44Speaker 1: to bounce back so quickly even though that has to hurt,
- 24:50Speaker 1: because you know when a move like that's gonna hit,
- 24:51Speaker 1: it's going to hurt, right.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Absolutely well, I'll say this, it's staggering what the human
- 24:59Speaker 4: body capable of and what you get used to. We
- 25:05Speaker 4: it's just it's it's our normal, to be perfectly honest,
- 25:08Speaker 4: and I think any football player would kind of tell
- 25:10Speaker 4: you the same thing, but it really is.
- 25:13Speaker 9: It's it's staggering what your body becomes used to.
- 25:16Speaker 4: And we always talk about like it's almost as if
- 25:18Speaker 4: it becomes calloused over time. And that's why even when
- 25:23Speaker 4: later on in my career, when I was older, you know,
- 25:27Speaker 4: I had I guess what would be termed as a
- 25:30Speaker 4: lighter schedule, so to speak, but that was still one
- 25:32Speaker 4: hundred and fifty times a year because doing it more
- 25:36Speaker 4: often was actually easier to me than just doing it
- 25:40Speaker 4: once in a while, because the shortest did set in.
- 25:45Speaker 9: It does you know you you you you.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Sort of your body calms down, it refreshes, it recuperates,
- 25:50Speaker 4: it recovers that was actually a longer process and more
- 25:54Speaker 4: painful process to me than just doing it consistently until
- 25:57Speaker 4: you decided you were done.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Do you feel that there is a difference in selling
- 26:02Speaker 1: really well and then over selling especially finishers? What's the
- 26:06Speaker 1: line there?
- 26:07Speaker 9: Well, look, I.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Will say this, the business has changed so much, and
- 26:10Speaker 4: I think it's interesting, you know, use the word over
- 26:14Speaker 4: selling and back again in the nineties, somebody like a
- 26:19Speaker 4: mister perfect Kurt Hennick, who obviously I sort of you know,
- 26:25Speaker 4: used his style from a selling standpoint, I think in
- 26:29Speaker 4: this day and age he would be considered an overseller.
- 26:31Speaker 4: But it was very visual. It was very appealing, you know,
- 26:35Speaker 4: the same the way that I sold in the nineties,
- 26:38Speaker 4: Dolf Ziegler, you know, Billy Gunn. They were all very
- 26:42Speaker 4: visual sellers in my opinion, But I don't know how
- 26:46Speaker 4: that would be received this day and age. A lot
- 26:49Speaker 4: has changed over the years. I think also with MMA
- 26:53Speaker 4: being around, our business had to evolve and sort of
- 26:57Speaker 4: replicate what I think people received, as you know, legitimately.
- 27:03Speaker 9: Painful or not.
- 27:05Speaker 4: And so I think as this continues to grow and
- 27:09Speaker 4: evolve and change, our business is going to continue to
- 27:12Speaker 4: do that. I think, And I don't know if that's
- 27:15Speaker 4: the you know, the question you were asking, or if
- 27:19Speaker 4: it's more so, like you said, too many people doing
- 27:22Speaker 4: too many moves that were once considered a finisher and
- 27:26Speaker 4: then moving on quickly after that.
- 27:28Speaker 9: So it's you know, the business.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Goes through that all the time. Old timers like me
- 27:34Speaker 4: often talk about all these kids today they don't sell
- 27:37Speaker 4: anything like we did. But at the same time, I
- 27:40Speaker 4: also remember people saying that to me, so that also
- 27:44Speaker 4: is generational. And uh, I think you have to change
- 27:47Speaker 4: with the times. Football and basketball, baseball, they all need
- 27:51Speaker 4: to be faster than they once were to keep an
- 27:55Speaker 4: audience entertained and locked in, and our business.
- 27:58Speaker 9: Is no different.
- 27:59Speaker 1: I was watching Kevin no One's talk about the stunner
- 28:01Speaker 1: and how there are certain people that can sell the
- 28:04Speaker 1: stunner really well, and some people like do backflips out
- 28:06Speaker 1: of it. And there's a fine line in selling the
- 28:10Speaker 1: stunner because it's supposed to be a finisher and you're
- 28:12Speaker 1: supposed to react, but some go too far. And I
- 28:15Speaker 1: guess that was my question, but I think you answered
- 28:17Speaker 1: it perfectly. But also and I'm just pulling up things
- 28:19Speaker 1: like I was listening to Undertaker talk about how sometimes
- 28:22Speaker 1: the finisher is used, yet some of the new generation
- 28:25Speaker 1: doesn't respect that it should mean you're finished. Like, what's
- 28:28Speaker 1: the fine line with you guys, because again you're the
- 28:31Speaker 1: creatives behind it. Is there ever a meeting where it's like, hey, look,
- 28:34Speaker 1: if we're gonna, you know, use this finisher, they kind
- 28:36Speaker 1: of need to be done because too many kickouts after
- 28:38Speaker 1: the finisher means it's not actually a finisher.
- 28:40Speaker 4: Yeah, So look, I think we go through phases and
- 28:44Speaker 4: peaks and valles in that to where you are looking
- 28:48Speaker 4: to give your fans the most for their entertainment dollar,
- 28:52Speaker 4: and nine times out of ten.
- 28:55Speaker 9: That's excitement, that's movement.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Certainly from an NXT standpoint, we don't have the equity
- 29:03Speaker 4: in our superstars that a main roster, a raw or
- 29:06Speaker 4: a SmackDown hacks a viewer is not. You know, might
- 29:10Speaker 4: not watch an NXT upstart who's been doing this for
- 29:16Speaker 4: six months as long as they're going to watch Kevin Owens,
- 29:19Speaker 4: and so that young superstar will probably have to move
- 29:23Speaker 4: faster and do more exciting things to keep that viewer invested.
- 29:28Speaker 4: But at the same time you want to teach them
- 29:30Speaker 4: and keep the integrity of the business.
- 29:32Speaker 9: So look, you might.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Begin to give them a little leeway, and usually what
- 29:36Speaker 4: happens is we do that, but then after a while
- 29:39Speaker 4: it goes too far and then we reel and have
- 29:42Speaker 4: to rain everybody back in. And so that's just something
- 29:45Speaker 4: you have to keep your fingers on the pulse of.
- 29:48Speaker 4: And and that's something I think that's that's going on now,
- 29:52Speaker 4: you know, I think everybody you know, especially you know
- 29:55Speaker 4: my finisher, the super kick or again, I'm now understanding
- 29:59Speaker 4: that a super kick is one thing, but sweet chin music,
- 30:03Speaker 4: that's a finisher. So I think when you get into
- 30:07Speaker 4: those types of things, if you want to keep the integrity.
- 30:09Speaker 9: Of the move.
- 30:11Speaker 4: You know, obviously we want that to always be noteworthy,
- 30:16Speaker 4: but I think you have to kind of call those
- 30:18Speaker 4: as you see them, and and and hopefully that the
- 30:21Speaker 4: fan base appreciates and understands that.
- 30:24Speaker 1: I was watching some of the MMA this past weekend,
- 30:26Speaker 1: and I think it traditionally Dana White gives a bonus
- 30:29Speaker 1: or if you perform really well. Obviously sometimes if it's
- 30:33Speaker 1: so great, you get a bump quicker with NXT and
- 30:36Speaker 1: especially at standard deliver, well, you guys like watch tape
- 30:39Speaker 1: regardless of who wins or loses and go, man, they
- 30:42Speaker 1: really performed at a level that is so high, maybe
- 30:44Speaker 1: we give them a shot earlier than we thought we
- 30:46Speaker 1: were going.
- 30:46Speaker 4: To absolutely again, Stand and Deliver much like WrestleMania, that's.
- 30:51Speaker 9: Where you can you can turn your career.
- 30:55Speaker 4: Around in one match, in one moment, and so absolutely
- 30:59Speaker 4: and then when it comes to bonuses, those are things
- 31:01Speaker 4: that especially I think from an NXT standpoint, you know,
- 31:07Speaker 4: we have a lot of multi person matches at Stand
- 31:11Speaker 4: and Deliver and look, a lot of people don't like that, but.
- 31:14Speaker 9: These young men and women work throughout the entire year.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Not all of them get an opportunity to be on pls,
- 31:22Speaker 4: to be on those you know, road shows, to be
- 31:25Speaker 4: on those televisions that are on the road that we've
- 31:28Speaker 4: been doing so much more of lately. And so we
- 31:32Speaker 4: want to give as many people as we can an
- 31:34Speaker 4: opportunity to perform on the biggest weekend. That's the reason
- 31:38Speaker 4: people get into this line of work is to have
- 31:40Speaker 4: that experience, to have those moments, and we're hoping that
- 31:44Speaker 4: you know, we have a lot of standouts come Stand
- 31:46Speaker 4: and Deliver on Saturday, April nineteenth. I think it's something
- 31:51Speaker 4: that we definitely keep an eye on, and anytime there's
- 31:55Speaker 4: a performance or somebody.
- 31:56Speaker 9: That just goes above and beyond, whether it's.
- 31:58Speaker 4: In a match or just throughout the entire year, we
- 32:02Speaker 4: try to take care of them as much as possible.
- 32:04Speaker 1: On Peacock Stand and Deliver will be streamed. WrestleMania Night
- 32:08Speaker 1: one is also that night when do you have a
- 32:11Speaker 1: favorite WrestleMania moment?
- 32:13Speaker 4: So I am very fortunate to have quite a few,
- 32:16Speaker 4: perfectly honest. You know, I always go from the ladder
- 32:22Speaker 4: match at WrestleMania ten, where I thought, you know, where
- 32:24Speaker 4: I felt like I put myself on the map as
- 32:26Speaker 4: a real main event player winning your first World championship.
- 32:31Speaker 4: But then I you know, I'm very proud of my
- 32:33Speaker 4: matches with Kurt angle with Rick Flair, and obviously my
- 32:37Speaker 4: two with the Undertaker. I've just been so fortunate to
- 32:40Speaker 4: have a lot of really, uh fantastic performances that I'm
- 32:44Speaker 4: really proud of at WrestleMania, And like I said, that's
- 32:48Speaker 4: what that's I don't know, I kind of feel like I,
- 32:50Speaker 4: you know, built my career on you know, hence the
- 32:53Speaker 4: names to WrestleMania on those moments and those matches so
- 32:58Speaker 4: very fortunate to have quite a few, and it's always
- 33:00Speaker 4: hard to narrow it down to one.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I have friends that have been in bands or even
- 33:04Speaker 1: in duos and they end up going solo and music,
- 33:07Speaker 1: and it's because that's what they really wanted to do.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But also there is a transition period for you. What
- 33:12Speaker 1: was maybe what you didn't I don't know what you
- 33:16Speaker 1: had to learn most when you did go solo, being
- 33:19Speaker 1: a superstar by yourself, not an attack team man a lot.
- 33:23Speaker 9: I gotta be honest, I was able to. Really it
- 33:28Speaker 9: took me.
- 33:30Speaker 4: Time to transition from I felt like I was always
- 33:33Speaker 4: a good worker, a good you know, a good wrestler
- 33:37Speaker 4: within the ropes. I think learning the character side and
- 33:40Speaker 4: then learning I don't know, the creative and the storyline
- 33:45Speaker 4: side of that, and being able to lose myself and
- 33:48Speaker 4: that creatively is what made the difference and separated me,
- 33:54Speaker 4: you know, from just being another singles superstar and somebody
- 33:58Speaker 4: that would be in the mix on a regular basis.
- 34:01Speaker 4: I think performing those storylines, being in those storylines, being
- 34:05Speaker 4: able to make them compelling, interesting, and then having.
- 34:08Speaker 9: The matches to be able to back it up and.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Tie all those things together in the ring at one time,
- 34:14Speaker 4: I think, is you know, where I was able to
- 34:17Speaker 4: you know, set myself apart, and that was something that
- 34:21Speaker 4: again I learned along the way. But I think, you know,
- 34:26Speaker 4: it's funny, ironically, I always talk about WrestleMania nine there
- 34:31Speaker 4: in Vegas, when I defended the Intercontinent Championship in the
- 34:35Speaker 4: first match, but then I kind of went into a
- 34:37Speaker 4: storyline on that show with Mister Perfect.
- 34:40Speaker 9: It was kind of one of my.
- 34:41Speaker 4: First backstage attacks and something like that, and I think
- 34:44Speaker 4: that was my first sort of, you.
- 34:47Speaker 9: Know, step into that.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Being more than just a regular wrestler on TV, just
- 34:54Speaker 4: another guy that was filling a segment. And that's what
- 34:57Speaker 4: I think superstars want to become. They want to be
- 35:00Speaker 4: somebody that's regularly in the mix and part of very
- 35:04Speaker 4: significant and important storylines within a raw or a SmackDown.
- 35:08Speaker 4: And I felt like that's something that I started to
- 35:10Speaker 4: embark on at WrestleMania nine and did my best to
- 35:13Speaker 4: build on from that point on.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I was trying to explain to a friend what n
- 35:18Speaker 1: XT is before we talk about Standard Deliver. I guess
- 35:22Speaker 1: my analogy was college football to the NFL. Well, is
- 35:26Speaker 1: that fair?
- 35:27Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 35:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's pretty accurate. That's certainly how I
- 35:30Speaker 4: describe it. Certainly, look at us as here at nxc
- 35:33Speaker 4: BE and uh, you know, University of Alabama or or
- 35:37Speaker 4: Ohio State, you know, somebody that's obviously dominant, but exactly
- 35:41Speaker 4: you know that level before you uh you know, make
- 35:44Speaker 4: it to the NFL.
- 35:46Speaker 9: And to me, that's what's so cool about it.
- 35:48Speaker 4: You know, I'm quite frankly, I'm a I'm a huge
- 35:51Speaker 4: college football fan because you know, it's never over until
- 35:55Speaker 4: you know there's triple zeros.
- 35:57Speaker 9: On the on the time.
- 35:58Speaker 4: And again, think can happen in college football, and that's
- 36:01Speaker 4: the same for NXT.
- 36:04Speaker 1: And with WrestleMania coming up this weekend and it's two
- 36:06Speaker 1: nights on night one, you guys are doing standard delivery
- 36:09Speaker 1: on peacock if you're doing those events pre WrestleMania in
- 36:13Speaker 1: the past, have there been a lot of NXT guys
- 36:16Speaker 1: that are now in the last couple of WrestleManias that
- 36:19Speaker 1: are headliners, Like, have there been real instances of people
- 36:22Speaker 1: moving up?
- 36:23Speaker 4: Yeah, certainly. I mean we obviously throughout the draft last year.
- 36:27Speaker 4: You know, bron Breakers, you know, having his first WrestleMania
- 36:32Speaker 4: this year. Tiffany Stratton defending the World Championship against Charlotte Flair.
- 36:38Speaker 9: So absolutely, And look, I'll say this.
- 36:40Speaker 4: If you want to take a look at again Roman Reigns,
- 36:43Speaker 4: Seth Rollins, Sammy Zay, numerous others, Kevin Owens, all of
- 36:48Speaker 4: them NXT alum so to speak. So NXT has proven
- 36:54Speaker 4: that the main eventers of WrestleMania come through NXT.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Are there ever any that don't go through an XT that,
- 37:01Speaker 1: let's say, a high school player that gets automatically put
- 37:04Speaker 1: in the pros? Like, does that ever happen? Where you
- 37:06Speaker 1: find somebody that dynamic?
- 37:07Speaker 4: I'd have to say, Look, I don't think you're going
- 37:10Speaker 4: to find anybody that has, you know, come in untrained.
- 37:15Speaker 9: Now, there might be somebody that's at a very.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Young age where they've been out on the independent scene
- 37:23Speaker 4: in the wrestling world and has you know, caught a
- 37:27Speaker 4: huge buzz and then miraculously somebody from the main roster
- 37:31Speaker 4: sees them and wants.
- 37:32Speaker 9: To bring them aboard right away.
- 37:35Speaker 4: You might we also have people that, again have been
- 37:37Speaker 4: to other places, but they've been in the business for
- 37:39Speaker 4: a while. I don't think, well, it's going to be
- 37:42Speaker 4: pretty tough if we find somebody that has uh not
- 37:46Speaker 4: ever done anything in the wrestling business and then kind
- 37:50Speaker 4: of make it straight to the uh the main roster
- 37:53Speaker 4: with no wrestling experience coming out of college.
- 37:56Speaker 1: What about the difference of being a wrestler versus being
- 38:00Speaker 1: now what you are where you were one of the
- 38:01Speaker 1: greatest of all time, versus a creative and an executive,
- 38:04Speaker 1: Because I'm sure there had to be thoughts while you're wrestling,
- 38:06Speaker 1: like man, if I could only be the creative or
- 38:08Speaker 1: the executive, things would be so different. But I'm sure
- 38:11Speaker 1: now that you have got you've come into this position,
- 38:13Speaker 1: you've learned a lot of things that maybe you didn't
- 38:15Speaker 1: know or appreciate while you're wrestling a lot.
- 38:18Speaker 4: First of all, I never dreamed of being anything corporate
- 38:22Speaker 4: or executive because I simply didn't think I could do it.
- 38:25Speaker 4: I didn't think that was in my makeup. I'm very fortunate.
- 38:29Speaker 4: I've always enjoyed the side. Again, you know, everybody's heard
- 38:33Speaker 4: the stories and they're very true of Hunter and I
- 38:35Speaker 4: driving up and down the road, you know, again talking
- 38:37Speaker 4: about storylines, talking about creative So the creative side was
- 38:41Speaker 4: always there. But I will say, look, some of the
- 38:44Speaker 4: things I have learned is that again, creative takes a
- 38:48Speaker 4: lot of heat. They take a lot of blame for
- 38:50Speaker 4: things that you know are not in their control. Understanding
- 38:54Speaker 4: some of the adjustments you have to make on the fly,
- 38:58Speaker 4: whether it be different personality, whether it be injuries, whether
- 39:02Speaker 4: it be all these different things that can.
- 39:04Speaker 9: Come your way that you're never aware of as a talent.
- 39:08Speaker 4: So learning that on this side has been fun, but
- 39:12Speaker 4: it's been interesting and challenging at the same time. And
- 39:15Speaker 4: I think from the corporate standpoint, doing stuff like this
- 39:18Speaker 4: and sounding I don't know, relatively intelligent has always been
- 39:23Speaker 4: an extreme challenge for me because again, I'm a kid
- 39:26Speaker 4: that wanted to be a wrestler when he was nineteen
- 39:29Speaker 4: and now, you know, knocking on the door of sixty,
- 39:31Speaker 4: and I'm still a kid at heart. But unfortunately, you know,
- 39:36Speaker 4: I have the task of trying to build a whole
- 39:40Speaker 4: brand with some great help around me. But I think
- 39:44Speaker 4: it's something and it's a task that I'm certainly ready for.
- 39:47Speaker 1: I have three questions left, and one of them I
- 39:50Speaker 1: was watching an interview with Triple H. What I find
- 39:53Speaker 1: really refreshing is that you guys will talk about the stories,
- 39:58Speaker 1: even within this story, and he was talking about the
- 40:01Speaker 1: decision to flip Sena and turn Sina Hill, and he's
- 40:04Speaker 1: talking about it already. And I can understand from a
- 40:08Speaker 1: lot of the traditional wrestling fans, and I'm one of them,
- 40:10Speaker 1: why maybe some people don't like that. I love it
- 40:13Speaker 1: because I'm able to separate the art and the artist
- 40:16Speaker 1: and the business decisions that need to be made and
- 40:20Speaker 1: the creative decisions. But for you, who's done both right?
- 40:23Speaker 1: Like you, like you said, you're a wrestler, you're old school,
- 40:25Speaker 1: but you also have to be new school. How do you, guys,
- 40:28Speaker 1: and how did you decide that you wanted to actually
- 40:30Speaker 1: incorporate what was happening behind the scenes publicly.
- 40:34Speaker 9: Well, we again, we started doing that.
- 40:37Speaker 4: And look, I know it's obviously, I guess a blot
- 40:41Speaker 4: on the wrestling business, but you know, with the curtain call,
- 40:44Speaker 4: but you know, we we that was something that we
- 40:47Speaker 4: as a group felt like many many years ago that
- 40:53Speaker 4: you know, wrestling fans and fans in general, they understand
- 40:57Speaker 4: what it is we do and I yes, but it's
- 41:01Speaker 4: still in art form. It's still something that it's to
- 41:05Speaker 4: be appreciated. And I think that that's the most intriguing
- 41:11Speaker 4: part of this line of work. Yes, I mean talk
- 41:14Speaker 4: about the physicality, and you touched on it earlier.
- 41:16Speaker 9: But I think any.
- 41:19Speaker 4: You know, even minded individual knows that what we do
- 41:24Speaker 4: is not easy, and so from a physical standpoint, we
- 41:28Speaker 4: feel like we have the respect that we need. And
- 41:30Speaker 4: so therefore you start talking about the creative side and
- 41:34Speaker 4: understanding just how intriguing and how interesting that is to
- 41:38Speaker 4: some of us. And I think it's just easier to
- 41:40Speaker 4: I don't know, to put that out there and also
- 41:43Speaker 4: again not insult I don't know your viewers intelligent, don't
- 41:46Speaker 4: do it with your superstars. We're very open, you know,
- 41:49Speaker 4: with this generation. I think because a lot of things
- 41:52Speaker 4: were kept so close to the vest in our generation.
- 41:56Speaker 4: And also I don't know, I think there were you know,
- 41:59Speaker 4: there's some traditionalist and purest I think it's I think
- 42:03Speaker 4: it can be more damaging to the to the business,
- 42:06Speaker 4: uh and keep it from evolving in there. I don't know,
- 42:10Speaker 4: in their wanting to, you know, try to pass it
- 42:14Speaker 4: off of something that it isn't. And I guess that's
- 42:17Speaker 4: the part that we've never really understood.
- 42:19Speaker 9: You know.
- 42:20Speaker 4: It's we're just speaking the truth on what is you know,
- 42:24Speaker 4: still a very tough, complicated interesting, exciting, compelling line of work.
- 42:31Speaker 4: And if you truly feel the love and passion for
- 42:34Speaker 4: it that we do, you're going to understand that. And
- 42:37Speaker 4: you're not going to lose anything. In fact, you might
- 42:39Speaker 4: find more respect for it.
- 42:40Speaker 1: Two questions left. Why is the Undertaker so revered he's loved? Why?
- 42:47Speaker 4: I think the way he carried himself to be perfectly
- 42:49Speaker 4: honest when everything's said and done, Uh, Mark was just
- 42:55Speaker 4: always a pro And and I think there are times
- 42:58Speaker 4: he went through every motion that all the rest of
- 43:01Speaker 4: us did, but he kept it close to the vest.
- 43:04Speaker 4: And and he did a lot of stuff in private
- 43:07Speaker 4: and and and I think that's that's the reason why.
- 43:11Speaker 4: You know, he always uh did business the right way,
- 43:16Speaker 4: had his problems, had his ups and downs, but most
- 43:19Speaker 4: people didn't know about it. And for that reason alone,
- 43:23Speaker 4: he deserves all the respect in the world. And he
- 43:26Speaker 4: gets it and will continue to give it, I'm sure
- 43:28Speaker 4: for a long long time.
- 43:29Speaker 1: My final question, you won the roller Rumble twice. When
- 43:32Speaker 1: did you know each time you were going to win?
- 43:34Speaker 1: How far out?
- 43:36Speaker 9: That's a heck of a question.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Is it days, weeks or at times? Will you just
- 43:40Speaker 1: find out day of or they change it?
- 43:42Speaker 9: Well, again, they vary.
- 43:44Speaker 4: But but but when it comes to a lot of things, yeah,
- 43:47Speaker 4: those have changed. I think the rumble the first one
- 43:50Speaker 4: I think was probably like a week or two in advance.
- 43:54Speaker 4: The second one I think was farther, you know, it
- 43:56Speaker 4: was closer to to game time. But that's one of
- 44:01Speaker 4: the things with creative, certainly, you know, depending on where
- 44:04Speaker 4: you're at on the card, some of those things come
- 44:07Speaker 4: down at the last minute, and as you start to
- 44:10Speaker 4: go up on the card, your creative gets a little
- 44:13Speaker 4: bit farther out in front. Obviously always understanding that anything
- 44:17Speaker 4: could change at the last minute, and sometimes often does.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Has it ever changed in the middle of the rumble though,
- 44:21Speaker 1: where it's like, hey, you go, you're number sixteen, go
- 44:24Speaker 1: down and let them know we've now changed the ending.
- 44:26Speaker 4: Yeah, well, not ever the ending, but we did have
- 44:28Speaker 4: a time I think Steve's told the story before when
- 44:31Speaker 4: when Steve got eliminated in a point where he was
- 44:34Speaker 4: not you know, he was supposed to be a vital
- 44:37Speaker 4: part at the end of the end of the rumble
- 44:39Speaker 4: and that didn't happen. And I think also, I want
- 44:43Speaker 4: to say, Luger and Bread I think also had you know,
- 44:46Speaker 4: a miscommunication. So there's been a couple of times, but again,
- 44:50Speaker 4: that's the joy of this job, though there's been plenty
- 44:52Speaker 4: of times out there in the ring when you know,
- 44:55Speaker 4: in a world you hope you know what's going to happen,
- 44:58Speaker 4: it totally doesn't and you got to make get up
- 45:00Speaker 4: on the fly. And uh, again, that's what makes it
- 45:03Speaker 4: exciting all the time. And and you never know when
- 45:06Speaker 4: those things are going to happen, and then you've got
- 45:07Speaker 4: the you know, in addition to that, you've got the
- 45:10Speaker 4: trying to make that happen so people think that something
- 45:13Speaker 4: went wrong and then you know, you just start getting
- 45:15Speaker 4: yourself into a rabbit hole.
- 45:17Speaker 9: There of creative.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Uh.
- 45:18Speaker 9: That's incredibly fun and interesting.
- 45:20Speaker 1: Sean Michaels, big fan. Thanks for the time. It's been
- 45:23Speaker 1: really cool to talk with you, and I hope you
- 45:24Speaker 1: have a great week leading up to it.
- 45:25Speaker 4: Yeah, thank you very much, and yeah, hell of an
- 45:28Speaker 4: interview by the way, Thank you. There's a lot of
- 45:30Speaker 4: fun for me. I appreciate it.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Are you serious? I know, I don't know, Like what why?
- 45:35Speaker 4: I don't know, because I don't know, because you're you're
- 45:38Speaker 4: you're an interesting, smart wrestling fan that I don't know,
- 45:41Speaker 4: I don't know, it's just asking questions I think from
- 45:43Speaker 4: a different perspective, And I don't know, I always like
- 45:46Speaker 4: that sometimes it's a lot of the same old, same old,
- 45:48Speaker 4: and so I don't know, I appreciate you guys, you know,
- 45:52Speaker 4: not making it just sort of a I don't know,
- 45:55Speaker 4: copy and paste kind of interview.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Would what would copy and paste? What? Like? I don't
- 45:58Speaker 1: know what a copy and paste is? But what what
- 46:00Speaker 1: are they copy and paste? Do they say? Like what?
- 46:02Speaker 6: I don't know?
- 46:02Speaker 1: What's a copy and paste? Question?
- 46:04Speaker 9: Well? I don't know. Again, what was it? What was
- 46:06Speaker 9: it like when I don't know, winning your first champions?
- 46:08Speaker 9: Got it?
- 46:08Speaker 1: Got it? Got it? Okay, that's awesome, you know what
- 46:11Speaker 1: I mean.
- 46:12Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 46:13Speaker 4: I appreciate the fact also I get I guess that
- 46:15Speaker 4: you're you know, you're a wrestling fan that understands both
- 46:19Speaker 4: sides of it and has an appreciation.
- 46:22Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 46:22Speaker 4: I'm always interested in compelled by the over selling and
- 46:26Speaker 4: and how you guys feel about kicking out of too
- 46:28Speaker 4: many things and stuff like that.
- 46:30Speaker 9: Uh, you know, you.
- 46:32Speaker 4: Can sort of have an idea of those things, but
- 46:36Speaker 4: you know, we don't you don't get a chance to
- 46:38Speaker 4: interact with people that much, and uh, I don't know
- 46:41Speaker 4: here there hear their opinions on it.
- 46:43Speaker 9: So that's interesting.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Thanks Shawn Well. I appreciate the time, and I appreciate
- 46:48Speaker 1: you even answering my questions about the questions I was asking.

- 48:16Speaker 2: Coming up, we'll talk to John Lepley, who was my
- 48:19Speaker 2: first ever autograph. We talked about who's the first pro
- 48:22Speaker 2: athlete you ever met and got an autograph from? And
- 48:24Speaker 2: I mentioned this random minor leaguer that I remember vividly
- 48:27Speaker 2: named John Lepley. We tried to track them down, we
- 48:29Speaker 2: couldn't find them. We have them, so we'll talk about
- 48:32Speaker 2: playing minor league ball, and then it's just crazy because
- 48:34Speaker 2: that's the first person I ever got to sign a
- 48:36Speaker 2: ball when I was a kid at the Arkansas Travelers game.
- 48:39Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 48:39Speaker 1: So John Lepley coming up in just a little bit. Hey,
- 48:42Speaker 1: I do want to talk about Niko leaving Tennessee. And
- 48:46Speaker 1: I was watching a lot of people say, this is
- 48:47Speaker 1: not business, This is not what it's supposed to be. Sadly,
- 48:51Speaker 1: it is exactly business, and it is right now, fairly
- 48:56Speaker 1: inside the sandbox of college football. So everyone that's going
- 49:00Speaker 1: this is not college football, this is not busy. Man.
- 49:03Speaker 1: You don't have to agree with what college football is now,
- 49:06Speaker 1: but this is exactly what college football is. And his
- 49:09Speaker 1: was just a little bigger and a little more public
- 49:11Speaker 1: than eighty four other versions of the exact same thing happening.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Now.
- 49:14Speaker 1: I'm not talking about holding out because I think they
- 49:17Speaker 1: knew from what I'm reading now that he wasn't going
- 49:20Speaker 1: to practice, Like he didn't show up, but they knew
- 49:23Speaker 1: he wasn't going to practice. They knew he his little brother,
- 49:25Speaker 1: by the way, go was Arkansas quarterback. Oh really, yeah,
- 49:28Speaker 1: year younger, maybe two years younger. So it wasn't a
- 49:34Speaker 1: surprise to from what I have heard from people very
- 49:41Speaker 1: close to the source that he ended up not being
- 49:45Speaker 1: a volunteer. So when we heard it was like quarterback
- 49:50Speaker 1: for the University of Tennessee, Nico, I'm sure to say
- 49:53Speaker 1: his last name, but Allan As we beat him this
- 49:55Speaker 1: year and it is awesome that he's holding out, and
- 50:00Speaker 1: then everybody on Twitter, you can't do this, you shouldn't
- 50:04Speaker 1: do this. Sadly you can and people are and it
- 50:07Speaker 1: doesn't get to hold out. Some players just go, hey,
- 50:09Speaker 1: if you don't give it to me, we're gonna leave,
- 50:10Speaker 1: and then they leave and there's never a holdout and
- 50:12Speaker 1: so they just get in the portal. Now think about
- 50:14Speaker 1: spring portal as you can't travel within the conference, so
- 50:16Speaker 1: he can't go to another SEC school. Another one of
- 50:19Speaker 1: the things that have come out is that Dan Lanning
- 50:21Speaker 1: at Oregon had her Nika was being shopped, so he
- 50:24Speaker 1: called Hypel and was like, hey, Nico's dad shopping him around, which,
- 50:28Speaker 1: by the way, it feels gross because it is gross,
- 50:31Speaker 1: but that is absolutely allowed because that is happening with
- 50:34Speaker 1: eighty percent of the players on one hundred percent of
- 50:37Speaker 1: the programs. So because you don't like it, that doesn't
- 50:42Speaker 1: mean that it's not allowed or it's not business. He
- 50:46Speaker 1: was getting two million or so one of four. Now,
- 50:49Speaker 1: the business part of it is if you get it,
- 50:52Speaker 1: that's good business. If I decide to hold out here,
- 50:54Speaker 1: I'm not coming into work until I get a new contract. Okay,
- 50:57Speaker 1: that's business. Now. Is it going to work out for me?
- 51:00Speaker 1: But if it doesn't work out for me, it's still business.
- 51:02Speaker 1: But it was just a bad business decision. He's still
- 51:04Speaker 1: going to get closer to the money he wants by
- 51:07Speaker 1: going to UCLA or usc or and that's business. He's
- 51:10Speaker 1: going to get the money he wants. It was all
- 51:11Speaker 1: about money for him, So it sucks for Tennessee. You're
- 51:15Speaker 1: a big balls guy, Middle Tennessee fans, big the balls.
- 51:19Speaker 1: But it is the business of college football now and
- 51:22Speaker 1: it's absolutely allowed. It is within the sandbox that is allowed.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Is it broken? Yes, But we need stories like this.
- 51:28Speaker 7: But how long until you think they fix it? We've
- 51:31Speaker 7: talked about this for a couple of years now. You've
- 51:32Speaker 7: always said day one, it's got to hit rock bottom
- 51:34Speaker 7: to be able to fix it, and it the bigger
- 51:36Speaker 7: the stories are, the more rock bottom it feels. And
- 51:38Speaker 7: this is pretty rock bottom. I think it is the
- 51:40Speaker 7: timing of it too, Maybe both just late in the spring,
- 51:43Speaker 7: you know, you're like really now.
- 51:44Speaker 1: And a big program. So here's who can fix it?
- 51:47Speaker 1: Not the nc DOUBLEA. The NCAA didn't want any of
- 51:49Speaker 1: this to happen, so people are blaming the nc DOUBLEA.
- 51:52Speaker 1: N CUBA didn't want to pay anybody. They lost the
- 51:54Speaker 1: Supreme Court case, the Obannon case of the video game.
- 51:57Speaker 1: That's what allowed all of this within IOL. So what's
- 52:01Speaker 1: going to have to happen is it's going to have
- 52:02Speaker 1: to be such a disaster that there are going to
- 52:06Speaker 1: be folks that lobby the lawmakers in order to make
- 52:08Speaker 1: the laws different. This is not an easy fix by
- 52:12Speaker 1: a school or the NCAA, or it would be fixed already.
- 52:15Speaker 1: NCUBA don't want to pay anybody, The schools don't want
- 52:18Speaker 1: to be held hostage. Or four million dollars, five million dollars,
- 52:21Speaker 1: two hundred thousand dollars. In basketball, you're seeing it too,
- 52:24Speaker 1: where there are coaches going kid averages four points a
- 52:26Speaker 1: game once two hundred thousand dollars, Like that's happening all
- 52:30Speaker 1: the time. The reason this story hits so big is
- 52:32Speaker 1: because one, it was a whole lot of money and
- 52:34Speaker 1: it was a big program. But the same exact situation
- 52:37Speaker 1: is happening all over the country, just not as much
- 52:40Speaker 1: money or as big a program. So this is not
- 52:42Speaker 1: an anomaly. This is everywhere. And I don't feel bad for
- 52:47Speaker 1: Nico because if you make a business decision, you have
- 52:49Speaker 1: to now deal with the consequences of it. He didn't
- 52:51Speaker 1: do anything illegal, He did nothing wrong. Now, you could
- 52:54Speaker 1: be a college football fan and purists like I feel
- 52:57Speaker 1: like I am, but I also understand the current environment
- 52:59Speaker 1: of athletes have been screwed over for fifty years and
- 53:02Speaker 1: not making money, so the pendulum has swung the complete
- 53:04Speaker 1: opposite way now. But how it's going to change is
- 53:08Speaker 1: going to be the lawmakers changing it, not the nc DOUBLEA.
- 53:12Speaker 1: They've lost all their power, not the schools. If they
- 53:15Speaker 1: go no, they're just not going to get the athletes.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Then they're not going to make the revenue, and without
- 53:19Speaker 1: the revenue, they're not going to pay for anything. And
- 53:21Speaker 1: it's a revenue base model.
- 53:24Speaker 6: Yeah, and I don't think the NCUBA even cares to
- 53:26Speaker 6: be honest.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I think the NCAA cares a ton that they lost
- 53:32Speaker 1: the ability, well that yes, to actually do anything about it.
- 53:35Speaker 7: Yeah, that but at this point they're kind of like
- 53:37Speaker 7: handed tied to b hinterback. We mess this up now, Yes,
- 53:40Speaker 7: now it's just like, you know what, no matter what,
- 53:42Speaker 7: people are going to watch, whether wherever Nico goes, they're
- 53:44Speaker 7: still going to watch. Vals fans are going to be
- 53:45Speaker 7: Valls fans, and they'll move on. But it's just not
- 53:48Speaker 7: a good look.
- 53:49Speaker 1: But I believe there can also be a slow deterioration.
- 53:52Speaker 1: We still have a baseball. Baseball slowly sucked and I
- 53:55Speaker 1: love baseball, but it was not people just stopped watching.
- 53:58Speaker 1: The product just got worse. The lockout. You don't think
- 54:01Speaker 1: the lockouts are baseball terribly. I mean, had it not
- 54:04Speaker 1: been for Sosa Maguire's home run Chase, I don't know,
- 54:07Speaker 1: baseball would have bounced back five, six, seven years.
- 54:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:11Speaker 1: So the hey, they're just going to watch because they're
- 54:14Speaker 1: fans of X, Y and Z. That's fun. But two
- 54:17Speaker 1: to three percent this person doesn't watch it as much
- 54:19Speaker 1: that it does. After years start to accumulate to the
- 54:22Speaker 1: point of we have accumulated so many people that do
- 54:25Speaker 1: not watch as much as they used to. It does
- 54:26Speaker 1: affect the product. Yeah, but that's when people are gonna
- 54:29Speaker 1: have to step in like these lawmakers, because the only
- 54:31Speaker 1: reason politicians change rules or laws is for money. This
- 54:35Speaker 1: is a very money based situation. Nico didn't do anything wrong.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Nico made a terrible decision and now he's gonna have
- 54:41Speaker 1: to suffer the consequences. Except he's not because he's still
- 54:44Speaker 1: going to get more money at a different school than
- 54:46Speaker 1: he was getting at Tennessee. So he actually did it
- 54:48Speaker 1: right according to the sandboxer are allowed to play in.
- 54:51Speaker 7: Yeah, I just feel kind of bad for him. I
- 54:53Speaker 7: know it's his decision, but he's kind of like, now
- 54:56Speaker 7: the whole world is on his back watching and wherever
- 54:59Speaker 7: he goes, wherever that may. And he's a hell of
- 55:00Speaker 7: a player, but it's just gonna be hard to recover
- 55:03Speaker 7: from that.
- 55:03Speaker 1: I feel pretty bad for him. Yeah, because he obviously
- 55:08Speaker 1: so he redshirted. He was a retro freshman last year,
- 55:12Speaker 1: so he's twenty and twenty one. He obviously has his
- 55:14Speaker 1: dad or whomever guiding him in a direction. He's also
- 55:19Speaker 1: an adult, but he's a very young adult. Yeah, I
- 55:22Speaker 1: do feel bad for him, Yeah, as bad as you
- 55:24Speaker 1: felt for somebody who's twenty. It's going to make three
- 55:26Speaker 1: four million.
- 55:26Speaker 6: Bucks, I know. I get that part of it. But
- 55:28Speaker 6: at the end of the day, like.
- 55:32Speaker 7: He really wherever, whether it's usc some people were saying
- 55:34Speaker 7: ucla kind of thing. If he goes there and just
- 55:36Speaker 7: kills it, then he'll be able.
- 55:37Speaker 6: To shut everybody up for sure. But if he doesn't,
- 55:39Speaker 6: then it's just like told you, well.
- 55:41Speaker 1: We're gonna find out the value at as far as
- 55:44Speaker 1: what the school is going to pay him, and then
- 55:46Speaker 1: we're going to watch the performance to go. I wonder
- 55:47Speaker 1: if it's worth three and a half million dollars. What's
- 55:51Speaker 1: interesting to me is the kid at Vegas UNLV just
- 55:55Speaker 1: dropped out midway through the season because he wasn't getting
- 55:58Speaker 1: his nil money. And everybody's like, ah, we hate him,
- 55:59Speaker 1: we hate him. Don't remember his name, no, but we'll
- 56:02Speaker 1: remember this because one, he has a cool name.
- 56:04Speaker 10: Ko.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Yeah, he has a cool name and to a much bigger,
- 56:07Speaker 1: high profile program. But this other dude dropped at mid season.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Had Nico dropped out mid season, this had been a
- 56:12Speaker 1: nuclear bomb, way bigger than this. Oh yeah, so this
- 56:16Speaker 1: is business. And also, let's imagine this is the only
- 56:20Speaker 1: time he gets to make money playing football. Why not
- 56:23Speaker 1: make his the most you possibly can In the years
- 56:26Speaker 1: that you can. I'm not gonna hate anybody for trying
- 56:29Speaker 1: to get the most money they can get. Now, I
- 56:31Speaker 1: love college football, and you're like, oh, it's ruining it, Okay,
- 56:34Speaker 1: But if I were eighteen nineteen, I don't know his
- 56:36Speaker 1: family situation. But if I were eighteen nineteen, like I
- 56:39Speaker 1: grew up playing football, you don't think I'm looking for money.
- 56:43Speaker 1: I grew up poor as crap. A lot of these
- 56:44Speaker 1: athletes grew up poor as crap, and this may be
- 56:46Speaker 1: the only time they can make money to set them
- 56:48Speaker 1: up for the rest of their life. And we're going
- 56:50Speaker 1: to look at them and goad bad player because they're
- 56:53Speaker 1: not doing anything illegal. It's completely within the rules what's allowed.
- 56:58Speaker 1: It makes them bad guys because this is our favorite team.
- 57:01Speaker 1: They're wearing clothes with our colors on it.
- 57:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 57:04Speaker 7: Or I'm interested to see if wherever he does go, like,
- 57:06Speaker 7: how does that fan base accept him?
- 57:08Speaker 1: Oh? I love them, I know, until you realize he's
- 57:11Speaker 1: making three and a half four million. It suck.
- 57:12Speaker 6: It's and he throws three picks in one game.
- 57:14Speaker 10: And.
- 57:16Speaker 1: That's the nature of it. But when is it going
- 57:19Speaker 1: to change? It's going to change whenever the lobbyists are
- 57:25Speaker 1: investing their time because money's invested into them to go
- 57:29Speaker 1: to the lawmakers to get contracts for these players.
- 57:34Speaker 3: So when you say lawmakers like the same dudes that
- 57:36Speaker 3: do like wear your seat belt when you're driving.
- 57:37Speaker 1: I'm talking about like the house. It's going to have
- 57:41Speaker 1: to be something there. The Supreme Court is the one
- 57:42Speaker 1: who changed in il because again Ed O'Bannon on the
- 57:48Speaker 1: video game is like, that's me.
- 57:50Speaker 3: They're not paying me for that.
- 57:52Speaker 1: So that's how it's going to change. But these stories
- 57:55Speaker 1: need to happen. Everyone's like, I hate it. I hate it. No,
- 57:57Speaker 1: bring them all. I want to see like fifty disasters
- 57:59Speaker 1: in a row because I don't like the model now.
- 58:02Speaker 1: The model now sucks, so we need something to break
- 58:05Speaker 1: the model. And nobody ever fixes anything that's kind of broke.
- 58:08Speaker 1: If you don't have to, you just kind of put
- 58:10Speaker 1: a band aid on it and keep going. My dryer
- 58:12Speaker 1: if it ain't like real broke, broke, or I can
- 58:13Speaker 1: kick it and get it to go. I'm not gonna
- 58:15Speaker 1: get a new dryer if it's completely dead, I going,
- 58:18Speaker 1: oh my god, Okay, fine, I'll get a new driver.
- 58:20Speaker 1: And that's what that's gonna be. That's the investment into
- 58:22Speaker 1: lobbyists into changing the actual laws. Now nil and portal,
- 58:27Speaker 1: although they in the ven diagram crossed in a lot
- 58:29Speaker 1: of ways, are not exactly the same thing. But I
- 58:32Speaker 1: think if you're going to pay players, and the schools
- 58:35Speaker 1: are now going to pay players with revenue sharing, so
- 58:38Speaker 1: that should all be disclosed and that should be contractual.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Now the problem that's where the NCAA is gonna have
- 58:45Speaker 1: to come in because that's from the school So that's
- 58:47Speaker 1: the NA being involved again. But I think these contracts
- 58:53Speaker 1: should be two years, three years. I think you should
- 58:57Speaker 1: get one transfer. I think everybody should be able to
- 58:59Speaker 1: transfer once. But what's happening is you can transfer every year.
- 59:02Speaker 1: It's free agency every year. Even pros don't get that.
- 59:06Speaker 1: So this is gonna happen right now. This is like
- 59:08Speaker 1: sports twenty forty years ago, but the exact opposite, when
- 59:13Speaker 1: there was no free agency and you weren't able to
- 59:16Speaker 1: just go and they had to literally pass legislation to
- 59:20Speaker 1: get players the opportunity to see how much there are
- 59:23Speaker 1: worth to go to other teams. So things have to
- 59:26Speaker 1: get really bad before they fix them, generally in life,
- 59:28Speaker 1: and that's what's happening here. And oddly I'm team Nico.
- 59:32Speaker 1: I'm glad to see Joshipeil do that though I thought
- 59:33Speaker 1: it was great. Yeah, like it sets a precedent for
- 59:35Speaker 1: other schools. We are not going to be held out on,
- 59:37Speaker 1: so you can just go. But two things can exist
- 59:39Speaker 1: at the same time. If I'm a player, I'm gonna
- 59:42Speaker 1: get the most money I possibly can. If that's my motivation,
- 59:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna get the most money I possibly can because
- 59:47Speaker 1: that is what's allowed in this environment. If I'm a coach,
- 59:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna set my culture one way or the other one.
- 59:54Speaker 1: You ain't gonna hold out. We're gonna pay good players
- 59:57Speaker 1: because we're supposed to. We're allowed to. But two, if
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: it is detrimental to the team and you're holding out
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: making yourself bigger than the team, you go mm hmm.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Or the culture can be we just have a bunch
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: of money, Ohio State, do whatever you want. We're gonna
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: pay everybody all And that works too.
- 1:00:13Speaker 6: But I don't even I don't know if Ryan Day
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: would let that either, but he wouldn't.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: It wouldn't get to that point. He would pay him yeah,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: or he would just say go ahead and go. I
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: think that would be the thing where Nico was like, oh,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I can hold out and get more money, because they
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: weren't like just going no, just go ahead and leave,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: because they had said they were reevaluating his contract before
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: this ever came out.
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: I wonder how long it's been in the works. I
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: guess because it would happen so fast. It was like
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: one day reevaluating, the next day he's gone.
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: It always happens a lot slower than what we hear
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: and what happened right you.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: It has probably been going on since the off season started.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: I don't hate anybody here. I'm kind of happy happened
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: in Tennessee though. So there you go.
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: What if he goes to Arkansas.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: He won't. We can't go to the anybody transferring the spring.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: He'll go back home toward home. He'll get UCLA or USC.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: Dan Landing calls him.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Well, what if Landing was the ultimate mastermind?
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: Yes, exactly.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: So.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: When I was a kid, once a year we made
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: the voyage to Little Rock. It was about an hour
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: drive and my stepdad would take me to watch the
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Arkansas Travelers and they were the double A team, but
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: they were our team. They were also the reason that
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: everybody in Arkansas a Saint Louis Cardinals fan because it
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: fed into the Cardinals. So all of Arkansas was a
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: Cardinals fan. Obviously. I was a Cubs fan, obviously, just
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: because of the contrarian that I am. And we were
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: talking about the first person we ever got an autograph from,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: and I mentioned the name John Lepley, who was a
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: pitcher and I bothered him as a kid, and I
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: was like, we signed this ball and and I have
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: had the autograph forever, and so we just talked about it,
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: and a listener of the podcast named Eric said, Hey,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: I know John Lepley. We tried to call John Lepley
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: based on LinkedIn, and now he's on with us. Now
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: here is John Lepley.
- 1:01:53Speaker 9: This is you.
- 1:01:54Speaker 5: I'm humbled.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: This is crazy.
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Well, uh yeah, this to me, this is while because
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: your baseball card, this is the exact one that I
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: had as well. So okay, let's start first of all
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: with you. Now, are you living in Boston, Massachusetts.
- 1:02:10Speaker 10: No, we live in Savannah. We actually moved last summer,
- 1:02:13Speaker 10: so that may be part of the reason it was
- 1:02:17Speaker 10: hard to get a hold of me. But as I
- 1:02:20Speaker 10: told your producer, I always returned people's calls within twenty
- 1:02:23Speaker 10: four hours, so it would be very unusual for me
- 1:02:25Speaker 10: not to return your DM.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: Hey yea, I was talking on Boston, like John Leplike,
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: anybody nobody in Boston. We'll get back. So and so
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: when you were playing for the Travelers, you were a pitcher.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Were you left handed? You're a left handed pitcher?
- 1:02:39Speaker 10: Right, yes, I'm left handed. Very fortunately I was left handed.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: And what can you walk me through your baseball career?
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: So out of high school? Did you get drafted? You
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: play college ball? What happened there?
- 1:02:50Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 1:02:50Speaker 10: So I went to a Jesuit all boys school in Omaha,
- 1:02:54Speaker 10: Nebraska called Criatin Prep. We had good success there, had
- 1:02:59Speaker 10: a scholarship to go to University Nebraska, great opportunity.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: I was a three year starter there.
- 1:03:08Speaker 10: When I left, I ended up breaking the first strakeout record,
- 1:03:11Speaker 10: which at this point it's been shattered. But I'm on
- 1:03:15Speaker 10: the board there somewhere, maybe five or six now. But
- 1:03:18Speaker 10: so I think about my senior year. Really it was
- 1:03:21Speaker 10: my junior we had a new pitching coach come in
- 1:03:24Speaker 10: and really, you know, early on I was just a thrower,
- 1:03:27Speaker 10: you know, good fastball, but my curveball was my outpitch,
- 1:03:32Speaker 10: and he taught me really how to pitch, you know.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: Like you know, just how to pitch with purpose.
- 1:03:40Speaker 10: He was really big into us watching other teams batting practice,
- 1:03:44Speaker 10: and he would just like just point out, look at
- 1:03:47Speaker 10: these guys are failing seventy seventy five percent of the time,
- 1:03:50Speaker 10: and this is batting practice. They know what pitch is coming.
- 1:03:53Speaker 10: So we tried to like empower us and Coach Pratt
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: was just great. He just taught me a ton about
- 1:03:58Speaker 10: pitching about watching. I got to be such a better pitcher.
- 1:04:02Speaker 10: So I think come my senior year, I was doing
- 1:04:06Speaker 10: well close to the strikeout record.
- 1:04:08Speaker 5: I think I started getting attention from scouts.
- 1:04:10Speaker 10: And at the time, if you know, the Cardinals really
- 1:04:14Speaker 10: drafted a lot of left handed pitchers, so being left
- 1:04:17Speaker 10: handed was it.
- 1:04:18Speaker 5: Was very fortunate.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: So you go and you start with the Hamilton Redbirds.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Is that like rookie ball a ball?
- 1:04:25Speaker 10: Yeah, yep, up in Hamilton, Ontario, And that's a weird
- 1:04:28Speaker 10: place to play ball because the weather just feels cold.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: It just feels like it's going to be cold there regardless.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think they love baseball up there.
- 1:04:35Speaker 10: So as part of the new York penn team, so
- 1:04:37Speaker 10: we'd come back down into the States and play in
- 1:04:39Speaker 10: Buffalo and Erie, Pennsylvania. But fortunately I was only there
- 1:04:44Speaker 10: maybe three weeks. I was fortunate, do real well. I
- 1:04:47Speaker 10: didn't give up any runs, a bunch of strikeouts. So
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: then I moved on.
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: To Savannah, the same Savannah you're in now, the same
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Savannah now. And any reason is are they connected at all?
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: Did you like fall in love of the city just
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: having to get a job there again, No, I.
- 1:05:03Speaker 5: Met my wife the first day when I moved here.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Wow, that's cool, that's crazy. Okay.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: So on the July.
- 1:05:11Speaker 10: Second, On July second was the last game I pitched
- 1:05:13Speaker 10: in Hamilton. After that game, myself and our second baseman
- 1:05:19Speaker 10: Mike Ross, got called into the manager's office and yes,
- 1:05:22Speaker 10: I don't know. I thought I was doing well. He's like,
- 1:05:25Speaker 10: I'm picking you up tomorrow mor than at five am.
- 1:05:27Speaker 10: You guys are both going to Savannah tomorrow. So later
- 1:05:30Speaker 10: that day and I found out and you probably have
- 1:05:33Speaker 10: heard stories, and families are just there's just certain families
- 1:05:37Speaker 10: that love baseball, they want to be around the sport,
- 1:05:41Speaker 10: and they know the minor league players don't make a lot.
- 1:05:43Speaker 9: So what I.
- 1:05:44Speaker 10: Learned is that on a lot of Sundays we'd play
- 1:05:47Speaker 10: in Savannah, that is, at one o'clock game, and typically
- 1:05:50Speaker 10: a family would have like a cookout or a barbecue
- 1:05:53Speaker 10: or something for the for the players, like at four
- 1:05:56Speaker 10: thirty five. And it just so happens my wife's parents,
- 1:06:00Speaker 10: Meredith's parents, were throwing a shrip boil that afternoon at
- 1:06:03Speaker 10: a park and I met Meredith that day.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: That's funny, that's crazy, that's awesome story. But you weren't
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: with Savannah that long though, because in the same year
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: it was Hamilton Savannah and then you were at double
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: A with the Travelers. How long were you with Savannah?
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: I was with Savannah for three weeks.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: Dah, you were on then, like you had to feel
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: good then?
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:06:23Speaker 9: I was?
- 1:06:23Speaker 10: I was, Yeah. I was pitching well. I was a
- 1:06:27Speaker 10: relief pitcher and I was not a high draft pick.
- 1:06:31Speaker 10: But my coach in college just said, listen, if you
- 1:06:34Speaker 10: get when you got when I got draftees, like, I
- 1:06:36Speaker 10: don't care if they asked you to pitch the fourth inning,
- 1:06:38Speaker 10: the eighth inning, just take the ball and try to dominate.
- 1:06:42Speaker 10: And it's usually the higher draft picks or the starter.
- 1:06:44Speaker 10: So when I got the opportunity to pitch whatever ending
- 1:06:48Speaker 10: I was just and then they slowly saw that I
- 1:06:51Speaker 10: did well towards the end of the game.
- 1:06:53Speaker 5: So I would typically.
- 1:06:54Speaker 10: Pitch like the seventh, eighth, or you know, sometimes i'd
- 1:06:57Speaker 10: pitched maybe the ninth ending.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: If they had a left handed batter coming.
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: Up first, I pitched to that matter, hopefully get them out,
- 1:07:03Speaker 10: and then they bring in the closer.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: And you were the Travelers for a few years. At
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: what point did you go, Okay, how does it work?
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: As you're double A and from looking at your career,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I know you played ball in Venezuela. Did you do
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: that after the Travelers or when did you go so
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: I'm going to stop playing baseball?
- 1:07:22Speaker 10: Yeah, So in nineteen eighty eight, when I had kind
- 1:07:25Speaker 10: of a good year or whatever after or kind of
- 1:07:30Speaker 10: during that August period when I was with the Travelers,
- 1:07:33Speaker 10: they invited me to come to instructional ball where they
- 1:07:35Speaker 10: take the top thirty prospects or thirty two prospects of
- 1:07:38Speaker 10: the organization. So I went to Saint Pete like mid
- 1:07:44Speaker 10: to late September. We played like thirty forty games and
- 1:07:49Speaker 10: I did well there. I had a really good fall
- 1:07:53Speaker 10: and so I get home probably in November.
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: I'm just kind of working out. I'm not throwing anymore.
- 1:07:57Speaker 10: I'm really exhausted because I had a college season and
- 1:08:00Speaker 10: then then kind of went right into the prole and
- 1:08:02Speaker 10: I get a call God, I think it was like
- 1:08:04Speaker 10: December twentieth from the director player development, and he said,
- 1:08:09Speaker 10: there's a spot in Arabo, in Venezuela, and we'd like
- 1:08:13Speaker 10: you to get down there and pitch and be a
- 1:08:15Speaker 10: relief pitcher for them for the remainder of the season.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: That's pretty cool. What kind of culture shock was that
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: for you to go down there and do that.
- 1:08:22Speaker 10: I mean, it's it's a gorgeous country. Boy there, it's
- 1:08:27Speaker 10: a poor country. Our dollar at the time was fifties
- 1:08:30Speaker 10: to theirs. Their boliviar and they love baseball. They just
- 1:08:36Speaker 10: love baseball down there. So all they could they could
- 1:08:38Speaker 10: invite like seven Americans, so we all stayed in this
- 1:08:41Speaker 10: one hotel together. Actually, you make a little bit more
- 1:08:44Speaker 10: money in winter ball. They pay you cash and then
- 1:08:48Speaker 10: they pay your expenses, and it was just a great experience,
- 1:08:52Speaker 10: a lot of baseball. I think I mentioned your producer.
- 1:08:56Speaker 10: Our short stop at the time was Davey Concepcion, who
- 1:08:59Speaker 10: would in his eighteenth year of playing for the Reds.
- 1:09:02Speaker 10: But he grew up in Ragua. And what I learned
- 1:09:05Speaker 10: is a lot of those players Caracas, Arraguo, wherever they
- 1:09:09Speaker 10: in the offseason, they would play not the full season,
- 1:09:12Speaker 10: but they would play, you know, three games a week
- 1:09:14Speaker 10: so the fans could see him in action, because a
- 1:09:16Speaker 10: lot of these people didn't have TVs and couldn't see
- 1:09:18Speaker 10: their you know, their hero play.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Did you ever in any sort because you never got
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: to Memphis? I don't think right, because were the Redbirds?
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: So when did it? When did it end for you?
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Was it an injury or was it a realization? Like
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: how did ball end for you?
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: Well?
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: Two things.
- 1:09:38Speaker 10: One when I went into when I got drafted, I
- 1:09:40Speaker 10: had my college degree, so I felt good about that
- 1:09:43Speaker 10: and I told myself then I go.
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: I either have to be in Triple A or in
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: the big leagues.
- 1:09:48Speaker 10: In four years or I just want to be done,
- 1:09:51Speaker 10: like I want to move on with my life.
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: And I was in Triple A camp every.
- 1:09:55Speaker 10: Year and if you saw my card I we played
- 1:10:00Speaker 10: like one hundred and twenty seven games for a full season.
- 1:10:03Speaker 10: I I you know, both years I played full seasons
- 1:10:06Speaker 10: there is. I pitched in fifty nine at the game,
- 1:10:08Speaker 10: so I could. I was like a workhorse. I could
- 1:10:11Speaker 10: you could count on me to be in there. But
- 1:10:14Speaker 10: then in ninety one in spring training, I was in
- 1:10:17Speaker 10: Triple A camp. I'm until like three days before they
- 1:10:21Speaker 10: broke camp and everybody went their ways and I got
- 1:10:24Speaker 10: called into the director player development and he said, we're
- 1:10:27Speaker 10: sending you back to Little Rock. So I just said why. First,
- 1:10:34Speaker 10: I said, I'm getting Triple A guys out. I'm getting
- 1:10:36Speaker 10: some big leaguers out when I go been playing in Venezuela.
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: Can you just give me an opportunity. I just said,
- 1:10:42Speaker 5: give me a month there.
- 1:10:43Speaker 10: I'll pay my way there, I'll pay my way home,
- 1:10:46Speaker 10: but give me a chance to go and pitch them up.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: And he's like, no, you're going back to Little Rock.
- 1:10:52Speaker 10: So yeah, so how it ended. How it ended? Was
- 1:10:57Speaker 10: our last one of the road trips, and I think
- 1:11:00Speaker 10: was mid late June was to Midland, Texas. We're playing
- 1:11:03Speaker 10: the Angels, and I didn't know my this is gonna
- 1:11:08Speaker 10: be my last day, but I got asked. They got
- 1:11:12Speaker 10: me warmed up in the bullpen. I went in in
- 1:11:13Speaker 10: the eighth inning. We were down by I think two
- 1:11:16Speaker 10: runs and we ended up scoring the next ending like
- 1:11:20Speaker 10: I don't know, like four or five. So they're like,
- 1:11:22Speaker 10: go out and pitch the ninth. So what's kind of
- 1:11:24Speaker 10: funny is my last professional game. I actually got the
- 1:11:28Speaker 10: w so which was me. The next morning, I get
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: the call from the manager. He's like, we're making a
- 1:11:32Speaker 10: switch sleptly. We got your plane ticket already, and you
- 1:11:37Speaker 10: know your rides to the airport were sending you back
- 1:11:39Speaker 10: to Little Rock to pack up, and we wish you
- 1:11:41Speaker 10: all the best.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: Do the people that work for you now and work
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: with you know, Like, is that that you were like
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: a legit ballplayer?
- 1:11:49Speaker 5: Not really? I mean I've yeah, I don't really shy
- 1:11:53Speaker 5: that much about it.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: It's all. It'd be my full identity, John, It's everything.
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: I have my baseball cards to fall out of my
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: pocket at random time everywhere. Yeah, yeah, I'd have tons
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: of Oh it'd always be a story relating to my
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: time back in the minors. So whenever Eric told you, hey,
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: they were talking about you, were you like, No, that's weird.
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: I go, that is wild.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: I go.
- 1:12:17Speaker 10: I just said to him, I said, we signed so
- 1:12:19Speaker 10: many autographs, and I mean that was part of our job,
- 1:12:23Speaker 10: and I enjoyed it. I mean, I love kids in
- 1:12:27Speaker 10: college just to kind of break up the monotony for.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: Baseball the time and school.
- 1:12:32Speaker 10: Like I worked at an on campus daycare center twice
- 1:12:36Speaker 10: a week and just a couple of hours, but it
- 1:12:38Speaker 10: was fun to just interact with these kids, read to them,
- 1:12:41Speaker 10: and you know, just it just it probably helped me
- 1:12:45Speaker 10: more than to help the kids.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you're my first ever autograph from any professional athlete ever.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: And so it's super cool because the card again, this
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: is the card that I had. Would give out the
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: cards for free or you could buy them impacts of
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: the whole team. And so I had all the cards.
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: And what do you do now, athletic? Are you still
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: like active? You still play sports at all?
- 1:13:02Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:13:03Speaker 10: Yeah, I play ust a tennis like golf. I meant
- 1:13:08Speaker 10: just at the gym earlier this morning. I probably work
- 1:13:10Speaker 10: out six days a week. Yeah, I try to stay active.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: How about you sandbag people? They're like, well, here's this guy.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: He's like, do you know works as a business guy?
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: Didn't tell him he's a minor league ball player, like
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: played a super high level. Are you so at the
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: UTU U t U s t a tennis Like that's
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: like a ranking system, Like I have a handicap right,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Like again, is that what that is at tennis? I
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: saw you like you're playing amongst people and you have
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: like a ranking.
- 1:13:34Speaker 10: Yes, yeah, my ranking is a four point zero. It
- 1:13:37Speaker 10: goes four or five and typically five o's or well,
- 1:13:42Speaker 10: I mean you're high high level college tennis. But I
- 1:13:46Speaker 10: played with some four or five guys, but mainly they
- 1:13:48Speaker 10: just keep the group about four to zero, which is fun.
- 1:13:51Speaker 10: It's get a good workout, it's not it doesn't take
- 1:13:54Speaker 10: a long time to two and a half hours and
- 1:13:56Speaker 10: your match.
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: Is done and it's all good. It's we're not playing

- 1:15:19Speaker 3: What is happening?
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Yeah, this guy would be my bff.
- 1:15:24Speaker 7: Now yeah, and I'm like, well, one, we're going to
- 1:15:27Speaker 7: record it so we'll get content out of it for
- 1:15:29Speaker 7: the show.
- 1:15:29Speaker 6: But it's also four thousand.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: The whole point was, dude trolled me out of nowhere,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: and I'm like, let's play for a thousand bucks. Then
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: mister troll, let's go. And he's like, I'm in. And
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: then I'm like, cool, let's get a lawyer and set
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: it up so nobody gets scammed disappears. No, I'm trying
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: to be content friendship.
- 1:15:45Speaker 9: Like.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: The whole point is if you're going to control people
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: like show up. Well, I did stuck when I found
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: out he was a four year D one athlete. I'm
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: not gonna lie like. That was a realization I did
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: not like. And I was like, I'm in, I'm in,
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: let's get in.
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: Check it out.
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: You held your ground.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: If I show up and lose, that's okay. I still
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: want to be the guy that shows up whenever the
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: troll trolls. I want to meet that. No, I'm not
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: doing it to be buddy buddy content and let's afterward
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: have a hug.
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: No, I told him, I said, this is legit for
- 1:16:09Speaker 6: a thousand bucks.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: It's not going to be your see. I already feel
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: like I feel like this has lost its edge. Yeah,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: he's back pedaling, right, because even if it happens now,
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: we're like forcing them into it now.
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: No, there's there's an endgame here. He said, Well, I
- 1:16:24Speaker 7: got kids, I'm busy when you guys thinking, And I said,
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: and I said, just let us know, like for the
- 1:16:31Speaker 7: next month, some open day till we'll try to figure
- 1:16:33Speaker 7: something out.
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: And then he said, I'm good. Thanks. He's he's out. O,
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: my gosh.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: We got strung along.
- 1:16:43Speaker 6: He's out.
- 1:16:44Speaker 8: Well he could have messaged back like a month ago.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: No, because he was embarrassed. This is what a troll does.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: A troll talks a bunch of crap and then doesn't
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: show up. What's his Twitter name? Oh no, Scott right.
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: Everybody sent him a message just kidding, like, do you
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: think I wanted to hold and go? Yeah? You know what,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: I'm still gonna go and play. When I found out
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: he was a Division one athlete for four years who
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: was running iron Man's no, I would have loved to
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: have backed out, but I'm like, if a troll's gonna
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: come to me, I'm gonna go, even if I lose.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: And then he backs out like this, you little pud,
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: I'm good.
- 1:17:18Speaker 6: Thanks, Jason Scott wrestling, you little pud.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: Wow, I'm good. First he it's you with it. I
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: got kids, I'm busy. This would have never happened had
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: he not been the one to go. Let's go set
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: it up, right, I know.
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: So do you think the whole ghosting, the silence part
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: is just him scared wondering how he's gonna back out
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: of this.
- 1:17:39Speaker 7: Yeah, because once he replied and then it took one
- 1:17:42Speaker 7: day to figure this all out and be like, oh,
- 1:17:44Speaker 7: I'm good.
- 1:17:44Speaker 6: Thanks.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I'm so disappointed and him yeah.
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: You're good.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: I cannot but that is very disappointing.
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: I know it's gonna say.
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: He's looking forward to that.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: It's gonna save me money for him to fly.
- 1:18:00Speaker 3: All that's true.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Okay, then you're the winner, dude, you're the winner. Good, dude,
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: be forfeited.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: I'm a little disappointed by that. Okay. I guess with
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: that we can wrap Mike.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's terrible way to go. Everyone's everyone's bummed.
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: Okay, thank you for being here. Everybody stupid. Thanks to
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Sean Michaels, Thanks to John Lepley. I can't believe he
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: backed out like that. I think better to back out
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: is just disappear again, like just ghost forever, instead of
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: admitting your putt, because he basically said I'm a putt. Yeah,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: please allow me to put all over you.
- 1:18:44Speaker 7: He tried to get us to say like, oh, never mind,
- 1:18:46Speaker 7: it's all good. And then once I once he realized like, no,
- 1:18:48Speaker 7: we actually want to do this, he's like, I'm good.
- 1:18:50Speaker 9: Thanks.
- 1:18:51Speaker 6: So yeah, he tried to.
