- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another French episode with Fexingo? Luna: Always! What are we tackling today? Lucas: I thought we'd learn how to ask for directions. Super useful if you ever find yourself lost in a French city. Luna: Oh, that's a good one. I once got totally turned around in Lyon. So, how do I ask 'Where is the train station?' Lucas: Great question. You say: Où est la gare? Let's break it down. Où est... means 'Where is...' So Où est la gare? Luna: Où est la gare? So Où est is the key phrase. Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice it: Où est la gare? Luna: Où est la gare? Lucas: Perfect. Now, if someone says 'À droite', that means 'to the right'. So 'la gare est à droite' — the station is to the right. Luna: À droite. Right. And left? Lucas: À gauche. So 'la gare est à gauche'. Luna: À gauche. Got it. And straight ahead? Lucas: Tout droit. 'Allez tout droit' — go straight ahead. Luna: Tout droit. Okay, so if someone says 'À droite, à gauche, tout droit', I can follow. Lucas: You got it. And don't forget to say 'Merci beaucoup' — thank you very much. Luna: Merci beaucoup. That's easy. Lucas: Let's practice a mini scene. I'll be a passerby. You ask: 'Où est la gare?' I'll say: 'À droite.' Then you say: 'Merci beaucoup.' Luna: Okay... Où est la gare? Lucas: À droite. Luna: Merci beaucoup. Lucas: Nice! You just navigated like a pro. Luna: That felt good. But what if I need to ask for something else, like a museum? Lucas: Same structure: Où est le musée? Où est la poste? Où est l'hôtel? Luna: Où est le musée? Où est la poste? Où est l'hôtel? I can do that. Lucas: You know, phrases like this really help when you're traveling. Repeat after me: Tout droit. Luna: Tout droit. Lucas: Now combine them: Où est la gare? À droite. Merci beaucoup. Luna: Où est la gare? À droite. Merci beaucoup. Lucas: You've got it. Let's try a longer one: Où est le musée? À gauche, puis tout droit. Merci beaucoup. Luna: Où est le musée? À gauche, puis tout droit. Merci beaucoup. Lucas: Excellent! The 'puis' means 'then'. So 'à gauche, puis tout droit' — left, then straight. Luna: À gauche, puis tout droit. Got it. Lucas: Let's do one more run. I ask: 'Où est l'hôtel?' You answer: 'À droite, puis à gauche.' Then I say merci. Luna: Okay. Où est l'hôtel? À droite, puis à gauche. Lucas: Merci beaucoup. Luna: De rien! Oh, wait, that's 'you're welcome', right? Lucas: Yes! 'De rien' is perfect. So now you can give directions too. Luna: Nice. This episode is really making me want to plan a trip to France. Lucas: Do it. Practice these phrases: Où est..., à droite, à gauche, tout droit, merci beaucoup. Luna: Où est..., à droite, à gauche, tout droit, merci beaucoup. Lucas: That's all for today. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn French with Fexingo. Luna: À bientôt!
