- 0:00First of all, it's good to see everybody.
- 0:01Good to be here. This is my first time at in in
- 0:04Daytona. As many of you may or may not
- 0:07know, I'm a Florida boy right down the road.
- 0:10University of Miami, best College in Florida.
- 0:14There you go, we got one. I was looking to get a reaction
- 0:18to that. So it's great to be here.
- 0:21I would say the most exciting thing that I have going on right
- 0:24now is being the Grand Marshall for the Daytona 500.
- 0:27It's awesome. I, you know, when you are just a
- 0:33sports fan, something like this really becomes an honor and a
- 0:37privilege. So I'm a lucky guy to be in this
- 0:39position of my career to to have been asked to be the grand
- 0:44Marshall and and say those four iconic words much different than
- 0:50the words I usually hear which is honey, don't do that.
- 0:53But I'm super excited about it and I and also too I think just
- 1:00a little bit little bit deeper into the into my answer is what
- 1:05I try to do is I try to make sure that everything I do these
- 1:09days in my career because I've been really lucky and blessed to
- 1:12have a pretty good career over the years that have spanned a
- 1:16lot of industries is I just try to make sure that everything I'm
- 1:19doing is the most exciting thing that I'm doing.
- 1:21I got babies at home and being a daddy is my favorite role So I
- 1:25want to make sure that I'm using my time wisely in anything that
- 1:28I do whether it's in the UFL or movies or back in professional
- 1:33wrestling which is always my first love or being the grand
- 1:36Marshall here for Daytona 500. Just want to make sure that it's
- 1:40the thing that I love to do. So I I always, I'm a big
- 1:44advocate and I always tell people that, you know, if you
- 1:47could create that life for yourself where if you decide to
- 1:50do something, we want to make sure that it's the thing that
- 1:53gets you out of bed and you run towards it.
- 1:54So that's what I'm doing. And you recently were able to
- 1:58make 21 Wishes come true with the Make a Wish Foundation, an
- 2:02organization that we're really close to here at DIS as well
- 2:05that had to been really special for both you and the kids.
- 2:07What was that moment like for? You it was Make a Wish is a very
- 2:13special organization as we all know and I know you guys work
- 2:16very closely with Make a Wish the drivers work very closely
- 2:19with Make a Wish it it is an organization that I hold very
- 2:22close to my heart and my soul and and and deep in my bone
- 2:26marrow. I had an opportunity when I was
- 2:2925 years old to grant my first wish and that was about 8000
- 2:33years ago. And it was very special then.
- 2:37And since then I've I've had the privilege of granting hundreds
- 2:40and hundreds and hundreds of wishes.
- 2:42And it's the reminder, I think for me, certainly, but I feel
- 2:48like it's a reminder for all of us that man, every life is
- 2:50special. Every life has a purpose.
- 2:52Every life has a meaning. And I like to say and I'm sure
- 2:56you guys have participated in Make a Wish events that you know
- 2:59as we know those children and those kids, they're the real
- 3:02heroes. And I always like to say that
- 3:04their parents and their loved ones are the real rock stars
- 3:07because everybody goes through that challenge, man.
- 3:10So, but it was an honor. And by the way, we we did, we
- 3:14did one of the biggest Make a wish events in the history of
- 3:19Make a Wish. We did 21 Make a wish kids.
- 3:22We did it in Los Angeles and it was an incredible day.
- 3:27What what turned, what was supposed to be all right, I'm
- 3:29going to spend a couple of hours and then move on.
- 3:32I got to go on to my next thing. Wound up being a big like an 8-9
- 3:35hour day and it was very, very special.
- 3:38That's awesome. And now, moving ahead to
- 3:40tomorrow, the spectacle of the Great American race, What are
- 3:43you hoping to experience when we finally get out there and and
- 3:46what are you planning for your command to fire the engines
- 3:48tomorrow? Well, what I'm hoping to
- 3:50experience is what I have already been experiencing.
- 3:54I got a little selling, Frank. I got a little kooky last night
- 3:57because I couldn't sleep and I went to the gym at midnight and
- 4:01I drove by this by the Speedway and all the lights were on and
- 4:05you just immediately felt the energy.
- 4:07There's a word I like to use. It's called mana and it's it
- 4:11means spirit and it's power and mana is ever present and it
- 4:17comes from in here and you just, you felt the mana as I was
- 4:19driving by the Speedway. So what I hope to experience is,
- 4:23is really what I have been experiencing, which is just this
- 4:25incredible electric energy. And also, you know, I liken it
- 4:30to my world of professional wrestling where there's a lot of
- 4:34people and the fans are so incredibly passionate.
- 4:36And the greatest part about being a performer is that you
- 4:40get to connect with the audience.
- 4:41You get to connect with the fans.
- 4:44And I think my math is kind of shady, but I think it's about
- 4:47100 and 1500 is the sell out, which is really cool.
- 4:52So I I I want to experience that and I want to experience that
- 4:56tomorrow. And I know I'm going to
- 4:57experience This is why I didn't want to leave.
- 4:58I had to stay so I can experience that and my plan for
- 5:03the iconic words of drivers start your engine is just not to
- 5:06screw it up, that's all. And maybe sound halfway cool
- 5:09when I do it. But also I really want to make
- 5:11sure that my words and my energy is a reflection and a respectful
- 5:20reflection of what the drivers need from me and also what the
- 5:22fans need to kick the race off and and to certainly kick the
- 5:25season off. So that's what I hope.
- 5:28Awesome. Well, we have a couple of
- 5:29minutes for a couple of questions.
- 5:31So we'll open up if you raise your hand.
- 5:33We're going to start up front here with Kelly Crandall.
- 5:39Kelly Crandall, racer.com I want to talk professional racing,
- 5:42Professional wrestling. We have our biggest race
- 5:44tomorrow, WrestleMania, the biggest event for you all.
- 5:48A couple years ago that shifted to a two day show and I'm really
- 5:51curious how has that been a benefit of for both the product
- 5:54and the fans that they get to attend and watch those two
- 5:57nights? That's a great question.
- 5:59So for those of you didn't know, it's Kelly, right.
- 6:02She had said we have, we've extended WrestleMania which was
- 6:06for years and years one day now we've extended it to two and
- 6:10it's worked out really wonderfully.
- 6:12I think on the business side for us and our sponsors and our
- 6:14partners, it works out great. The economics you hope work out
- 6:19good for us again on the business side.
- 6:21But I think perhaps more importantly than that is the
- 6:27fans get an opportunity to enjoy 2 days of the Super Bowl if you
- 6:30will and enjoy great matches, great entertainment and and and
- 6:37also in addition to that we get to create more opportunities for
- 6:42the wrestlers and for the performers.
- 6:44And I grew up in the world of wrestling.
- 6:47For those of you don't know, I was born into it.
- 6:49My grandfather wrestled my dad, my cousins.
- 6:53My grandmother was the first promoter in Hawaii.
- 6:55I make that so I come from a long lineage.
- 6:57So creating opportunity for wrestlers and performers is
- 7:00something that is very important to me and important to us as a
- 7:03company. So I can't wait.
- 7:06In this WrestleMania, WrestleMania 40, we look to put
- 7:08on hopefully the biggest WrestleMania of all time.
- 7:11I am returning into the ring, so I'm going to put the spandex on
- 7:17and I got to start my diet and and and I and I and I can't
- 7:20wait. I think we are creating
- 7:22something that should be, I think, pretty cool for the fans
- 7:25and pretty entertaining. Along those same lines, this
- 7:27program now that you're talking about leading to WrestleMania,
- 7:30how different and how meaningful has it been to really lead to to
- 7:34really lean into that family lineage that you've that you
- 7:37just talked about Because it's been mentioned throughout your
- 7:39career, but I I can't recall this you guys are really into it
- 7:42now and and using that with Roman and Cody.
- 7:45That's right. So in in our world of WWE, we
- 7:48are, we're really leaning into, as Kelly was saying, with our
- 7:52heels and baby faces, that's parlance for good guys, bad
- 7:55guys, bad guys, The Rock, The Big Bad Wolf, The Rock, Danny
- 7:58Hamlin, for example, which I love, we'll get to in a second.
- 8:05And so we decided to really lean into the idea of families and
- 8:09lineage and culture. And when you think about it,
- 8:13it's it's pretty cool. When you look at the family
- 8:16tree. As I was saying, I grew up in
- 8:18the world of professional wrestling, but when you look at
- 8:22the actual family tree of Myvia Johnson on Hawaii, it's pretty
- 8:29spectacular and it's pretty cool again.
- 8:31And just creating more and more opportunities for not only my
- 8:34family, which I'm incredibly grateful for, but for other
- 8:36wrestlers too, and other performers.
- 8:39Thank you. We'll go to Alan Cavana.
- 8:44Alan Cavana, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
- 8:46To the point of what you just mentioned, one of the favourites
- 8:49to win this race is Denny Hamlin.
- 8:51He could win and get booed by the crowd.
- 8:54You're going through that right now, getting the booze.
- 8:57What is that like? Is it more fun to get booed?
- 9:00What is it like being the villain?
- 9:01Because right now, one of our top stars in NASCAR kind of is
- 9:05the villain. Being the villain is the
- 9:06greatest thing in the world. It truly is now in my world of
- 9:10professional wrestling, and I was aware of Danny and getting
- 9:15booed and also I think impressed in how he's embraced it.
- 9:19So, and I also feel like everybody wants to be the good
- 9:22guy and everyone wants to be the good guy, the good girl.
- 9:24Everyone wants to be loved and cheered and considered the hero,
- 9:29which is great and it's natural, It's human psychology and
- 9:34desire. But I have felt in my career and
- 9:38through my experience that I've been very fortunate knock on
- 9:41wood to have is that the rare air is when you have the
- 9:48opportunity and you grab it by the throat and you don't let it
- 9:53go. And that's the opportunity to be
- 9:54a great bad guy. And in this case with me coming
- 9:59back to WWE. For those of you may not know
- 10:01the character of The Rock has turned heel.
- 10:04And I always say that the the best parts of the times that I
- 10:08played heel, which is now is it always comes from a place of
- 10:12truth. And I always think that that's
- 10:14really the the best and greatest bad guys and villains out there.
- 10:18Bad guys, bad girls, villains are coming from a place of
- 10:20truth. So one of the cool things that
- 10:27being a great bad guy and a great villain offers, and this
- 10:32is my advice to Denny, is not only do you embrace it, but also
- 10:37you get the opportunity to say and do a lot of things that
- 10:39people can't. A lot of people wish they can,
- 10:42but they don't. So you don't have to let me and
- 10:44Denny do do the talking and and get the booze.
- 10:48Thanks for being here. Thank you, man.
- 10:50All right. Well, we have to move on with
- 10:52DJ. We have a full slate of
- 10:53activities for him. But DJ, thank you so much for
- 10:55joining us today and for sticking around with us
- 10:57tomorrow. We can't wait to hear your
- 10:58command of. Course.
- 10:58Yeah. I can't wait.
- 10:59Thank you guys very much. I appreciate you.
