What Is FORTRESS? Pentagon’s 90-Day Plan to Keep US Military Bases Running
The US Department of Defense is developing FORTRESS America, a programme designed to keep critical military installations operating if a major conflict disrupts civilian infrastructure or global supply chains.
The name stands for Federal Operations for Resilience, Troop Resources, Energy, Supply and Survivability. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the initiative on September 30, 2026, as part of a broader effort to strengthen the military’s ability to sustain operations during prolonged emergencies.
