- Jeff Perera: Welcome to the weekly run. I'm Jeff. I'm Aaron. And today, what's hot at Jeff's Bagel Run is it's finally pumpkin season and we have a bunch of new pumpkin bagels. I it's a well-known fact how much I love pumpkin. Things, all things pumpkins. Aaron loves pumpkin so much that every time we bring it to the office for taste testing, we are You're you're just like you show up. You just like know it's gonna be there. I drove across town for this. You did. I have no reason to be on this side of town to be at this location other than this wonderful tray. I am widely known as pumpkin season basic white girl. Yeah like cliche. I don't think I listen, you love pumpkin. Everything. You love pumpkin everything. Maybe it's your like When do you do the pumpkin like beverage tasting? This is what I know I don't get. No, I we miss it. It's like all it's like It's always I'm here to give you the bagels. I need to talk to the the beverage team. Get on the beverage team. I they clearly don't know. So with pumpkin season starting, we have seven new bagels of the day this week. Some of them already exist. Like we have a pumpkin pie bagel. Delicious. Yep. We do a cinnamon butter is what I was told is best with that to really. the brown sugar cinnamon butter. Yes, to get that like that sort of like yummy Pie crust. Pie crust, little, you know, got a little of the juices, pie crust. So yeah, I learned that last year. O Town team. Okay. For the recommendation. But yes, establish the Aaron just loves pumpkin so much. Okay. Told you, 30 minute, 30-minute episode. I was like, we could do this in 15, and he's like, it's gonna take 30 for sure. I have too much to talk about. 100%. So we are already a few bagels deep into the experience, right? We've got pumpkin pie, we've got pumpkin pancake. Yep. Those are the two existing. But I had to fill out five more days to get a full week of pumpkin bagel. It should be a week. Two days is not enough. Well, to kick off the season, like we offer a pumpkin bagel every day. Plain pumpkin every day. But to kick the season off, I felt like we needed more pumpkin in our life. Yeah. Yes, Aaron said yes all the way. So we have Pumpkin bagels for all. Yeah. So these are our tester pumpkin bagels, and we're gonna eat them with you so you can get a first bite reaction on all of these new flavors from Aaron. I've tasted most of these already, but this guy hasn't, so it'll be fun. So watch him. On the screen. Where do you want to start? So should we just go through all of them first and then I mean is there is there an eating progression here? You're the chef, so I don't know, like is there is there a flavor profile journey that I need to go on? I think you're gonna just start and go. Alright. So we've got we've got five new ones. That's what I'm looking at. Okay, you're looking at a black pepper and honey on a pumpkin bagel. Yeah. You've got a pumpkin cranberry. So this is cranberries infused in Pumpkin chocolate sprinkle. That's gonna hit. I know. Chocolate sprinkles and pumpkin dough. This cheesy one right here, this is the pumpkin Abby This is controversial. This is a little controversial because pumpkin and sandwiches. I don't know, I think they belong together. This well, I want your first take. I won't tell you what it is, but it's the Abby So it's salt, onion, Asiago cheese, on a pumpkin bag. And then hiding out of camera, this last one right here, pumpkin, cinnamon sugar. So cinnamon sugar, straight up on a pumpkin bagel This can just feels like the these two feel like they'll be guaranteed. They belong together. Yeah. The other ones are new. So it's kind of. Where do you want to start? Let's start with a layup. We'll go from the furthest. We'll go pumpkin, cinnamon sugar first. Pumpkin cinnamon sugar. Alright, let's go. Now is this are you are you just I'm just taking a bite, like I'm are you gonna like are you delicate? You're like a heathen. He's delicate. I had no idea he was delicate. I'm just going in. I don't wanna get cinnamon sugar in my my fine mustache. my god. Is it good? That was good. I like the crust. Yeah. The crust, which is like our normal cinnamon sugar, has the crust, but I like that. See again, this is another one. And you didn't tell me that the way this works is that like I talk and eat like I have no manners on video. I let you do that while I swallow. So I've chewed it already. That's pro move. Yeah. You're you're new, it's okay. It's really good though. Like I does the cinnamon sugar combined with the pumpkin. That's a great. You a lot of bagel tea, so you don't have to finish that one. I mean these are all coming home with me. I know. Probably yours too. Alright, so that would be good with the pumpkin spread. The pumpkin spice. There's certain cheese. Yeah yeah pumpkin spice cream cheese on a cinnamon on a pumpkin cinnamon sugar bagel. I think that's gonna be an elite combination. I This is important. I need like a palate cleanser. I would also say that our maple spice cream cheese, like that brown sugar maple cream cheese that we do. Looks very fall. It's very fall and I think it would go really well on it as well. So there's certain ones that you want to spread. Because the bagel itself is sort of It's good. It's tasty, it's got good flavor, it's but the but it's delicate. It's like a delicate flavor. It's not an overpowering flavor. I expect some of these will stand on their own without spread. That's a good one. It's like a nice pairing of a spread. That would also be good with the cannoli. A little bit of chocolate in there. Just wait till you get to this one. Wanna do that one next? Yeah, let's do it next. Alright, we're gonna go. So we're just gonna go pumpkin chocolate sprinkle next, right? I'll go to the bottom. I know the meltiness on the bottom. It's so good. You're still ripping? I'm ripping, this is what I do. It's like a sprinkles inside. Is it in the dough? Yeah, it's in the dough. Mmm. It's in the dough. that's good. So it's in the dough and on top? Yeah. god. That's really good. You could taste that with cannoli. Another one just just just to hammer down on the chocolate. So you know what's cool? This reminds me. We've talked about it before. I grew up in New England. Yeah. And so those things I found out that are very New England y. Yeah. I guess. And we wanted and we eat a lot of pumpkin up there. Okay. So you have like pumpkin donuts, we have like squash donuts in the fall. It's probably where I get it from. But my mom used to make chocolate chip pumpkin cookies. Ooh. That sounds good. I remember them dearly. It was a family recipe. it's probably where it all started. Had those every fall and I my mom would start making these cookies. And what was cool about them is they weren't they weren't like a chocolate chip cookie where they're a little crispy. Yeah. They were fluffy. They like softness. They're almost like a muffin top, really. I've had I think I've had this before. Yeah, they they have a their texture is more like a cake. Yes than it is like a cookie. Because it's not as much butter. Correct. Yeah. And so that's what this reminds me of. This is very nostalgic for Yes. It's like Cause chocolate and pumpkin are It's a great combination together. I'm really nostalgia. That one hits me in the feels. We're allowed to cry on this podcast. You know, maybe. Maybe episode hundred. I'll s I'll save the tears for for then. Okay, so I think we should stay sweet and do the last the last one, the cranberry. Cranberry. So a pumpkin cranberry. This is a cranberry bagel, essentially a pumpkin cranberry bagel. And we top it with a little bit of granulated sugar to add a little extra sweetness. And the cranberry's in the dough? Cranberry's in the dough. Yes. Cranberry's in the dough. That's got the crust again too. Yeah. How do we do the crust? Remind me of that. It's a pre-baked drizzle of cinnamon sugar, or this one in this case just granulated sugar. Mm-hmm. Mm. That's good. That's really good. Why don't we have a cranberry spread? Who says we won't? Who says we won't? Let's go. Okay, so what I love about this is when you get that little bite of cranberry and like You know, they're they're dried cranberries, so they don't like they don't like explode like a gusher in your mouth, but you get a nice hit of like sweetness. It's like a craisin. it is it is a craisin. I think it's actually crazy. Craisin's the brand name. okay. Craisin's the brand name. So it's like ocean spray, yeah. They've trained like I don't think we actually use craisins in our recipe though. I think we use dried cranberries. But what I like Lay off the branding and Trademark protection. Slow down on the crazins, okay? Sorry. Sorry. Unless cranberry ocean spray wants to sponsor the podcast. Sorry. This dried cranberry like. Should we do like a we can do like a like a cold read real quick? cranberry or like an ocean spray ad read? We should do that. what would what would that sound like? I will do that. Do an ocean spray ad read. I'll read it while you eat the bagel. Okay. Ocean spray, where cranberries are harvest just in time. I don't know can't tell It's terrible. Podcasters don't write the ad copy. Is that it? They just read it. Where's our production assistant? forgot we don't have one. We don't have a ad but don't have one. I mean for like we were having a pumpkin picnic, like for real. We are and a pumpkin picnic. This is great. A lot of customers. Alright, so you like that right? That's a winner. That's a winner. Okay. Again. So now I think we go a little sweet and savory now. this one over here is kinda hard to see. Wait, you see where you're you're we have to save the the spicy Abbey for last. That's not The pumpkin, pumpkin abbey. Spicy, sorry. It's not spicy, it's pumpkin. there's no spice in this. There's no spice, it's just pumpkin abbey. Just Abbey pumpkin. Abbey pumpkin. So I think the honey black pepper is next. There is a little bit, obviously black pepper has some heat to it, but it's not like it's I don't even know where black pepper registers on like the Schoville scale. It's probably pretty low. I feel like black pepper is more a is more a It's a biting taste, but not like a how It's not a heat taste. No, no, it's not heat. Okay. So black pepper and honey. Ooh, honey's like honey is sticky because it's post-bake, so we drizzle it on there to make sure you get the full honey effect with black pepper. Black pepper on during the bake. How do you choose post bake versus pre-bake? Like what are the differences and why why do you you know what I mean? What's the thought process on that? So that's really good. I'm really getting better at teeing you up so I can eat. Yeah, you're learning as we as we go through this episode here. Okay. it's got a bug in my eye. That's what happens when you do this outside. The the post bake versus pre bake, whenever you bake something and you put it heat like oven heat to it Sometimes flavors diminish and so a lot of times you'll lose heat when you roast a pepper, a lot of times you'll lose sweetness when you bake like a honey. And so we put the honey on there post bake because we want it to have that honey sweetness. We want it to come through, opposite of that spicy, kinda like flavorful pepper esque. I don't even know, that pepper heat. Yeah, yeah. It's not really heat, but you know what I mean. What'd you think? I like that one. I like the combination. I do. It reminds me a little bit of the Mike's hot honey, where it's just like a nice contrast of flavors. Yeah. But obviously the pumpkins in the mix there. That's another one where the pumpkin spread would be ooh, I'm getting the pepper. Pepper's coming like The pepper comes in back. So it's so it's interesting. Insider tip to everybody, pay attention to which way you bite. Because seriously, yeah I think about this when I look at the new bagel because it's what you sort of layered onto your tongue. So if all the seasonings are on the top and you really want that flavor to come through in a different way, you put it on the top. Flip it over, get that on the tongue hits. That's what I'm saying. So like think about the way that you eat your bagel, inside or tip. But this one is another one where it's like I would do it with a pumpkin spread. Just because I would Not because there's anything missing here, but I like pushing that pumpkin flavor in and amongst the pepper. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would have told you first bite, not enough pepper. But I flipped it and plenty of plenty of pepper. Yeah, yeah, you don't think it's a mess. It's not my goal to like blow your palate out with heat or spice. So I think there's enough pepper. That's good honey too. The honey's nice. I agree with you. I think if you pair that bagel with a pumpkin spice cream cheese. It's good or the even the brown sugar cinnamon would be really good too. Yeah, both just something to carry that through the middle. Yeah. As the pepper and the honey are doing their thing. Yeah. That's really good. That's really good. Alright, and maybe the most controversial of all the new pumpkin bagels, the pumpkin Abby This is the pumpkin bagel topped with salt, onion, and asiago cheese. So the Abby is a is like almost a topping treatment at this point. Like I like to think of it as the Abbey as like a style. Yeah, it's a it's can we abbify a bagel. Uhhuh. And that's what we thought about with this pumpkin bagel. And what I anticipated Unexpected. Unexpected target for the p the pumpkin Abby was not on the Original menu. And then I started thinking, what else can I do? Because I was one bagel short. really? Yeah. That's how this one came about. This is where this one came from. This is the desperation. I wouldn't say desperation, but you know, we have the spicy Abby we have the regular Abby and I just felt like a sweet Abby would be a way to go. And pumpkin kind of bridges the the sweet and savory line. It's not so sweet that it pushes you. No, it's it's it's it is more savory. And I think if you look at pumpkin as a squash, which it is versus a pie, because a lot of people immediately think pumpkin Which is mostly spices. Yes, well, it's not it's pumpkin, but it's pumpkin accented by a lot of strong spices. Nutmeg, cinnamon. Correct. So pumpkin on its own is not a very polarizing. No, it's much more of a delivery system. Yeah. Alright, so pumpkin Abby We've got salt, onion, Asiago cheese. I love this bagel. I ate it already. I can't wait to see what you think. I don't know what's happening. You gotta get through the first layer. I don't know what's happening. That's crazy. I really don't know how I feel about this. It's really good. It's good. It's really good. It's more good in a It's making me work. Like I'm trying to think through the flavors and like can I taste pumpkin? there's the aciago and them get the salt, then you start getting into the meat of the pumpkin, you know, the the the pumpkin part of the bagel. And you're like, I tasted pumpkin. I like it. I d again Clearly I like pumpkin spread. But I'd be curious the the pumpkin spread to carry through That would be wild. That would be Just because it would strengthen the pumpkin? It would. Yeah. And it would I think if you put a little pumpkin pumpkin spice cream cheese on there, that would be like the true conflict in the But this one This is gonna be polarizing. See with this bagel, what I got out of it and what I was hoping I got out of it, and I wonder if now that I put this thought in your mind, does it give you like squash soup? Hmm. Like I want you to think like squash soup, like a nice like It's a cool fall day. You've got some kind of squash soup. Maybe it's pumpkin or butternut squash. I know you don't know. What's a cool fall day? I mean, yeah, like 75. You know what like when it cold enough to make soup. I'm just thinking like a butternut squash soup or like a like a pumpkin soup or something a little savory. I don't know. I Yeah, I like it. I keep going back to this one because it's good. Can talk for a minute about this tasting? Like my bagels are all half gone and you've taken single bites out of all these bagels. Clearly you eat too many bagels. Bum. Like I said, I ate a lot of these bagels and you were late, so True. You had a call before we did this. True. And so But then I got my own tray. You had your own tray. The rest of the team was fighting over scraps on the inside. Yeah, so I mean sounds like I There's some benefits. Like Sounds I was early. Yeah, and there I left a few in the back for you so you could take some home. Yeah. Let's go. Let's go. Alright, well I'm really excited about all these. I'm excited about pumpkin season. We will have some spreads, we'll have some drinks. We've got Are we cheesing any new drinks? We don't have any, but I mean nothing to like but are d the new drinks in the works. I think we're doing a but we have the maple spice latte coming back. Winner. Yeah. Pumpkin spice latte, of course. Pumpkin spice cream cheese and our maple brown sugar cream cheese. So Can I officially like put in a reservation for any future tastings on this should become a regular segment more than anything just so I can eat bagels, have bagels served to me. This could be a I like this idea actually. Just a regular tasting. you could eat a lot of bagels all the time. And I just have to sit off camera and wait for scraps. Actually after this I have to go do slice I gotta do slice and schmears with all of these bagels. So I'm gonna eat another bite of five more bagels. This is why you're doing the one bite One bite of five bagels is the whole bagel. It's like a wine tasting, you're like little nuts. But I I I didn't spit it out though. Well you could I mean this is a I ate every bagel I ate them all. You're reasonable. Have you seen that on the internet, the whole thing like that Guy Fieti doesn't swallow the food on the show, No. Yeah. There's this YouTuber, he's doing like this deep dive right now into whether or not Guy eats the food. It's like a big expose. Well, let it be known that that I've eaten all this. You ate it all. And I will continue to eat this after the camera's done. We're gonna turn this off and we are gonna keep eating. I'm not gonna should run the video while we eat the rest of it. my god. And no no we won't do that. We won't do that. my god. Well thanks for jumping in on this special edition of the weekly run to tell you about our delicious pumpkin week bagels that are gonna be here for you.
