- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Hello friends, and welcome to the Live and Run podcast.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: This is Brandy from Houston, Texas, and I'm giving you a call from the Buzzard Beach parking lot, which I call Buzzard Beach because it always makes me feel like roadkill.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I'm out here getting some training models and mental toughness in while I'm on a Disney World vacation, training for Chicago Marathon.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Happy running.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Bye.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: There you go, friends.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: Brandy is with us from Buzzard Beach.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: If you've run the marathon before, you understand.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: If you haven't, well, you'll learn maybe this January.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Thanks, Brandy.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Thank you, friends, for joining us for episode 260 of the Rise and Run Podcast.

- 1:35SPEAKER_01: With Greg.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: Hey, hey, hey.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: With Alicia.
- 1:38SPEAKER_04: Hello.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: And with Jack.
- 1:40SPEAKER_04: Hiya.
- 1:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, she Jack, you sound really good right now.
- 1:44SPEAKER_06: What why is that?
- 1:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, I don't know, Greg.
- 1:47SPEAKER_04: I don't know how long we've been doing this, but I've uh I definitely forgot to put in my microphone cord to my computer for the um interview part.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: So this part sounds great.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: This is the high-class stuff you come to experience here at the Roswell Podcast.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Almost five years, 260 episodes, and we don't plug the microphone cord in.
- 2:12SPEAKER_04: You know, I want to say probably one out of ten episodes, I probably didn't put the cord in like to my computer.
- 2:19SPEAKER_04: If you really think about it, the amount of times you guys have been like, I can't hear you, and that's why.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: It could be.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Could be.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: I'm sure I've done something like that.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: I just can't think right off the top of my head what it is.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Well, once again, friends, we're glad you're here, and we're glad you can hear Jack.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: That's a good thing.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Uh this week's episode, uh most of the episode is a recap of the fabulous weekend we just came back from in Bird in Hand, Pennsylvania.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: Those of you who were there, I'm sure you'll enjoy reliving it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: Those of you who weren't there, I hope you get something out of it.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: I hope you have a good time.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: I hope you understand how much fun we had.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: And quite candidly, I hope we see you there next year.

- 3:53SPEAKER_06: The Rise and Run Podcast is sponsored by our wonderful friends over at Magic Bound Travel.
- 3:59SPEAKER_06: We were just commenting about this you know a little bit ago before we started recording that you know, we cannot believe that you know 2026 is well more than you know halfway over.
- 4:12SPEAKER_06: It's gonna be 2027 before you know it.
- 4:14SPEAKER_06: And another Run Disney race season is just a few weeks away.
- 4:19SPEAKER_06: If you plan on making any last minute travel plans, especially for one, now we're gonna give you those training numbers here in a little bit, but if you need that last minute room, be sure to head over to magicboundtravel.com, fill out their no obligation quote form.
- 4:35SPEAKER_06: And if you're telling them that you'll be going for a Run Disney race weekend, you're gonna be working with a travel professional who is a Run Disney runner themselves.
- 4:44SPEAKER_06: They'll be able to help you with all the vacation planning and give you the ins and the outs of the race weekend.
- 4:50SPEAKER_06: And what's also great too is that they're always checking out rates for you as well.
- 4:54SPEAKER_06: Uh, I just saw last week that for Disney World, uh, they just released a whole bunch of discounts for everybody under the sun, uh, especially for Marathon weekend.
- 5:06SPEAKER_06: So if you have a room booked, have your magic bound agent rerun the numbers for you, see if you can save money on the current room that you're in, or maybe with the savings, maybe you can upgrade from, say, like a value to a moderate.
- 5:19SPEAKER_06: And the great part about it is your agent is doing that and not you.
- 5:23SPEAKER_06: So again, head over to magicboundtravel.com and fill out the no obligation quote form, and they will get you on your way to a magical race cation.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: Sounds good.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Greg.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Hey Jack, what's new with YouTube?
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: Hey, Bob.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, YouTube, we got another episode this week.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: It's so exciting.
- 5:46SPEAKER_04: I finally went for a run at Wilderness Lodge, and I'm taking you guys on the journey.
- 5:52SPEAKER_04: After this episode, I only have two more hotels to share with you guys, and that's Oakie West, um, which I actually ran at on the same day.
- 6:02SPEAKER_04: And then last but not least, the art of animation and pop century resort area.
- 6:08SPEAKER_04: Um, Animal Kingdom, unfortunately, does not have a specified running trail map.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: If you look on Disney's website, it will show that it's not even an option uh for running uh, so to speak, there.
- 6:22SPEAKER_04: You can, I'm sure.
- 6:24SPEAKER_07: But can you like jump to uh into Safari, run on the Safari inside?
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: You know, I don't think you'd ever be able to be allowed back.
- 6:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: No, but I bet you could break some personal records depending on who is chasing you, what we're chasing you.
- 6:39SPEAKER_06: Can you imagine the headline Podcaster banned from Disney World for running on Safari?
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: Oh no, that'd be so sad.
- 6:47SPEAKER_04: But anyways.
- 6:51SPEAKER_04: Um, yes, so the series is almost done.
- 6:53SPEAKER_04: And once I um share those last few episodes, I'll go ahead and rank every single uh play, every single resort that I ran at at Disney from best to worst.
- 7:04SPEAKER_04: But let's be honest, there is no worst option, but you know, if you had to rank them all in order, I think that would be a little fun.
- 7:10SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, check out YouTube.
- 7:13SPEAKER_04: We have more to come.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: Nice going, Jack.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Good job.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Thanks for that.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: All right, friends, let's look at the training coming up.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, we are getting into race season now in North America and the USA.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: I heard uh in where I live, I get the news out of Tampa.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: I heard, yeah, you know, we're getting out of summertime because the average daytime high has now dropped from 91 all the way to 90.
- 7:39SPEAKER_04: So I felt it while I was running today.
- 7:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: I'm getting my gloves out and all that.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Wine and dine is this many.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Five weeks away.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Five weeks away.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: I don't have to take my shoes off.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: I can just hold up one hand now.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Five weeks, we are 35 days from expo day.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: Training week 13 calls for four miles, including a magic mile.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: This is the time on the wine and dine schedule where they have a magic mile every other week, which I think is a little overkill.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: But remember, magic mile is a measuring tool, not necessarily a training tool.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I want to remind friends that our meetup, um as we get closer, and we're getting pretty close, but as we get closer, uh we'll hit this even harder.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: The meetup is Saturday afternoon, 3 p.m.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: at what used to be the area formerly known as the food truck area.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know what they call it now.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: However, we look forward to seeing you there.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: A whole lot of fun.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And the last we we we start at 3, we take a photo at 3.30.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Uh Becky starts passing the cookies out promptly at 3 or maybe even a little earlier.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: And most friends hang around till 4.30 or 5.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: You're you're free to come anytime in that time range.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: We sure like to see the folks there at 3.30 for the group photo.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Uh Marathon Weekend.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Marathon Weekend is 16 weeks away, 16 weeks away from 5K day.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Training week number 12, a double up if you're doing the challenge, one of the challenges, goofy R Dopey.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: You've got four miles followed the next day by 13.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Remember, the four is recommended to be a walk, and the 13, of course, is your run, walk, run at your long run pace.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: So that's what's going on in the training world.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, we've got news on uh this season's rise and run race shirts.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: John, what's the deal?
- 9:44SPEAKER_07: So uh we have uh our race shirts are on our website for sale.
- 9:48SPEAKER_07: It's rise and run podcast.com slash shop.
- 9:51SPEAKER_07: So we have our pre-orders, which we'll be taking till September 25th, with hopefully uh expected ship time October 25th.
- 10:00SPEAKER_07: They're not guaranteed for wine and dine, unfortunately, but uh if they come in early, Judy will get them out.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, she'll get them out as fast as she can, yeah.
- 10:08SPEAKER_07: Yeah, as fast as she can.
- 10:09SPEAKER_07: Also, all the prior year race shirts are all on sale.
- 10:14SPEAKER_07: So they're like between eight and ten dollars.
- 10:17SPEAKER_07: So if you in various sizes, so if you want a shirt, there's also those to go go go and grab.
- 10:23SPEAKER_07: Do your holiday shopping now.
- 10:26SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: All right, thanks, John.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: We'll follow up on that.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: That information is pinned to the featured section of the Facebook page.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I promised that we wouldn't talk about fantasy football anymore until the season ended, but when I made that promise, I said, with one exception, I want to recognize our friends who volunteered to be uh league commissioners.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So I want to thank Andrew, Rob, Mike, Eric, and Natalie for providing their time so that we could have that's right, we've got five 10 team leagues.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: We've got a free one, we've got a$50 one, and we've got three$25 entry fee leagues.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: So thanks guys.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Now Scott also volunteered to be a commissioner, but it didn't need him, and we did the old spinning wheel, so Andrew became the commissioner of the$50 league.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: I have one more story.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: I said last week that I had entered one of those challenges where you pick just one game every week and you see how and no point spreads involved.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: You see how long you can go before without picking a loser for I think the fourth year in the last five, I'm out.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: Week one is over and I'm out.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Who'd you pick up?
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Oh golly, who who was playing the Cardinals?
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: I thought it the Chargers playing the Cardinals?
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: I think it was.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: All I know is that I think 97% of the picks were on that team and we're all out.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: All right, that's it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: I'm done with football again until the end of the season when we want to recognize the folks who won.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: So clearly, once I get done talking about football, I need to ask, what would Alicia do?
- 12:27SPEAKER_09: I mean, that's something that is of very big interest to you.
- 12:31SPEAKER_09: Um, and that kind of goes with what would Alicia do this week.
- 12:35SPEAKER_09: Um, I was thinking about what I wanted to talk about this week, and I was thinking about last year around this time, the grape stomping competition happened, and that made me really happy.
- 12:46SPEAKER_09: And I talked about it for weeks.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: Oh, I remember it.
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_09: Um, I didn't go into it this this weekend.
- 12:52SPEAKER_09: I did something else that I'll talk about a little bit later.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Well, we refresh people's memories if they don't recall.
- 12:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:58SPEAKER_09: So I last year I went to a um local winery and I got to stomp the grapes like they did in I Love Lucy.
- 13:08SPEAKER_09: Um, right.
- 13:09SPEAKER_07: That's exactly what I thought of.
- 13:12SPEAKER_09: Um it was a really fun experience.
- 13:14SPEAKER_09: And so that got me thinking how much I enjoyed that experience.
- 13:17SPEAKER_09: And I wanted to focus this week around something that makes us happy.
- 13:23SPEAKER_09: Um, and so I was thinking about what are other things that I really enjoy that make me happy.
- 13:30SPEAKER_09: Um, and I was thinking about something that I've been kind of obsessed with and probably spending too much money on, and that's houseplants.
- 13:39SPEAKER_09: I uh I actually got a few houseplants for free from work.
- 13:44SPEAKER_09: Somebody was throwing them out.
- 13:45SPEAKER_09: Um, literally, I found them in the trash around winter time and I saved these plants.
- 13:52SPEAKER_09: Um, and I've slowly but surely been buying houseplants and I've really enjoyed watching them grow and learning more about them.
- 13:58SPEAKER_09: So, my question for you guys this week is is there something that you're really enjoying right now that maybe you're kind of enamored with and spending maybe too much money on that isn't running?
- 14:09SPEAKER_09: Because we all know how much we love running.
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: Um, obviously it's a running podcast, but um, I'm curious to hear what you guys are enjoying right now.
- 14:17SPEAKER_06: Well, first of all, Alicia, before I answer this question, uh, I I'm just I I love your your character arc.
- 14:23SPEAKER_06: You know, 2025, you're stomping grapes, 2026, you're dumpster diving.
- 14:29SPEAKER_06: This is I I I absolutely love it.
- 14:31SPEAKER_06: I uh actually, when you said house plants, all I can think about is this meme that I've seen uh all weekend that was um you know, people going shopping, you know, for plants and like here, come home to my home to die.
- 14:44SPEAKER_06: Uh because that that's anytime Meredith has a conversation with me of oh, I want to do this in the garden, I want to do that in the garden, like we kill plants all the time.
- 14:53SPEAKER_06: This is not worth the investment.
- 14:54SPEAKER_06: But um, but anyway, to answer your question, uh right now, my unhealthy obsession that I'm probably spending a little bit too much money on is Disney Lorcana.
- 15:07SPEAKER_09: That's what I thought I thought of you.
- 15:08SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a good answer.
- 15:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:11SPEAKER_06: Uh so for those of you that do not know, Lorcana is Disney's version of a trading card game.
- 15:18SPEAKER_06: So similar to Magic the Gathering or Pokemon.
- 15:22SPEAKER_06: I think there's like a Yu-Gi-Oh version.
- 15:25SPEAKER_06: There's all sorts, all sorts of different ones.
- 15:28SPEAKER_06: The only reason why we got into it is Riley and I stumbled upon, I don't know if it's like an advertiser for the game, but we were just like really, really enamored with the the unique and beautiful artwork that are on these cards.
- 15:40SPEAKER_06: It obviously tied to intellectual properties that we love.
- 15:43SPEAKER_06: And then when we found out that this is like you know, a game that that you can play together, you know, as a family, and then and such, I was like, oh, you know, maybe this is something that you know her and I can get into.
- 15:54SPEAKER_06: And it's it's something that has brought us both a lot of joy.
- 15:57SPEAKER_06: We like playing it together.
- 15:59SPEAKER_06: You know, she loves going out and going to different stores trying to find packs of cards.
- 16:04SPEAKER_06: And and the problem is that the place where we probably go the most is Target.
- 16:09SPEAKER_06: And before Lorcana, I was a strict, this is all I need at Target, so I'm gonna order it on the app, and then I'm just gonna do the drive up pickup so I don't have to go into the store.
- 16:20SPEAKER_06: And now I don't do that anymore because I feel like I need to go into the store to see if there had they have any cards that particular day.
- 16:27SPEAKER_06: So I guess that's where the unhealthy obsession is coming in.
- 16:30SPEAKER_06: But I have a blast playing the game with her here at home.
- 16:34SPEAKER_06: I've found websites that you can play online versus other people, which is cool.
- 16:40SPEAKER_06: Um, her and I went to a store competition two weekends ago.
- 16:44SPEAKER_06: That was really fun.
- 16:45SPEAKER_06: I got my doors blown off by a different nine-year-old who ended up winning uh said competition.
- 16:52SPEAKER_06: Uh, yeah, so it's it's been a lot of fun, but it's it's also turning into an unhealthy obsession because apparently um last week, what was it?
- 17:00SPEAKER_06: Disney announced uh the dates for um the best festival at Epcot, and that's hashtag farts, uh festival of the arts, but that the whole the whole festival is being sponsored by Disney Lorcana.
- 17:14SPEAKER_09: Oh gosh.
- 17:15SPEAKER_06: There is and now she wants to go, even though the even though the festival starts, I think it's the Friday after marathon weekend, she wants to now go on a trip so that we can go to Epcot and collect the cards because of course this year there's a special Figman card that you can only get in Epcot.
- 17:34SPEAKER_06: So love that for me.
- 17:36SPEAKER_06: And then the part where like now I'm getting sucked in is uh in a couple of weeks they're releasing like the newest set of cards and and newest accessories, and there's these like plain like really decorative playmats that you can buy.
- 17:50SPEAKER_06: Essentially, it's like just a big like a big glorified mouse pad, and they're gonna have a special limited edition goofy movie with power line on it, and I'm like what local so Jack looking at you who wants to go to Disney Springs that day and buy me this eye-to-eye playmat.
- 18:09SPEAKER_06: So, yeah, so that that's probably where all my uh all my focus is right now.
- 18:15SPEAKER_09: But that's so fun.
- 18:16SPEAKER_09: You get to play with Riley, and and yeah, I mean Yes, it's no it it brings me a lot of joy.
- 18:21SPEAKER_06: Her and I have been looking for a really long time of something that can be her and I's thing.
- 18:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and we've found we have finally found it, and I I'm very, very appreciative of it.
- 18:32SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 18:33SPEAKER_07: I haven't in a while, but I am really into tequila and tequila bottles.
- 18:38SPEAKER_07: So anything that has like, you know, some of those weird-shaped painted bottles, I would just buy it.
- 18:46SPEAKER_07: It might taste horrible, but I just had to buy it for the bottle.
- 18:50SPEAKER_07: I got tons of tequila at home.
- 18:53SPEAKER_07: I could be Margaritaville in my basement if I really wanted to be.
- 18:56SPEAKER_07: But uh, I mean that that was my big obsession.
- 18:59SPEAKER_07: I I kind of calmed down a little bit because I my wife's like, you don't need another bottle.
- 19:04SPEAKER_07: It looks cool.
- 19:04SPEAKER_09: John, I have one for you.
- 19:06SPEAKER_09: I just saw a video.
- 19:07SPEAKER_09: Blind boxes.
- 19:08SPEAKER_09: I don't know if you are familiar, but like a lot of younger people like opening these blind boxes of different things if it's like pigeon toys or whatever it is.
- 19:18SPEAKER_09: Um, anyway, there is blind box tequila now, and the the shape is like a mushroom, and the top of it, there's different colors you can collect, and there's I think there's four, and it's like red, blue.
- 19:32SPEAKER_09: Uh there's another color, and then gold is like the most rare.
- 19:35SPEAKER_09: So maybe you want to check that one out.
- 19:38SPEAKER_07: That's more money I need to spend on tequila than.
- 19:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 19:42SPEAKER_06: I'm getting a little concerned for my fellow co-host here because last week Bob talked about heavily drinking uh to cope with stress, and now John's got a tequila bottle collection.
- 19:53SPEAKER_09: He didn't say he was drinking.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, fair enough, fair enough.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: That's harmless.
- 19:59SPEAKER_04: I was gonna say if it makes you feel any better, David and I, if when we watch uh Love is Blind, we will get a bottle of wine and just watch the show.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: So interestingly, Greg, you talked about cards.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: I years back I was obsessed with collecting uh sports cards and sports memorabilia.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: I still have, I literally have cases of sports cards that I really need to get out and evaluate and maybe sell some of them.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: I it's not going to change my life.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: It's not I don't think there's anything in there that was of that great of a value.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: John, for a while I was seeking rare bourbons.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Uh Rebecca's kind of taken that over.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: But even she's backed off a little bit now.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: And even though we said we're not going to talk about running, that is it for me now.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: I'm looking, I look at my schedule from now through next May, okay?
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: Through the race season, if you will.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: From September through May.
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: I've I've registered for 17 race weekends and 24 races.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: And that's where a lot of my money's going.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: And as far as my time, it's going to this podcast.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: I spent I spent more time on this podcast than I thought that I would, but I do it because I love it.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: So that's that's it.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wish I was more exciting, but that's my answer.
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: I'm kind of similar to you, Bob.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: Basically, I wake up, I work out, I wake up at 4 a.m.
- 21:46SPEAKER_04: I I work out, I get ready for work, go to work, come back, hang out with David, watch a show, and then go to sleep and repeat.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: And even on the weekends, it's like it's it's they're running in the workouts where I oh, or maybe I'll go to A park and walk around, you know, with David and everything.
- 22:02SPEAKER_04: But I don't really do too much beyond that because the days are so filled right now.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: Because it's it's getting busy because it's the busier season, you know.
- 22:10SPEAKER_06: I thought your healthy obsession was or unhealthy obsession was Love is Blind.
- 22:14SPEAKER_06: I I thought that's what you were going for.
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: No, I was just helping him out feeling better about his tequila bottle collection.
- 22:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah.
- 22:22SPEAKER_04: We don't do that as much because Love is Blind has an they just brought out a Love Is Blind UK, and we just started that today before recording, but we we haven't been really watching that stuff as much, at least since the new year.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: There hasn't really been too much out.
- 22:42SPEAKER_06: But um no excited Jack because the Philly season is coming up, and that is going to be television gold.
- 22:49SPEAKER_04: Well, I will tell you guys my obsession.
- 22:52SPEAKER_04: It doesn't have anything to do with buying anything because besides trips, I don't really buy a whole lot.
- 22:57SPEAKER_04: Um, except obviously if I'm on a trip.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: But um my unhealthy obsession goes to watching, I don't know what it is about these Korean reality shows too specifically.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: There is like uh one of them is a physical 100 on Netflix.
- 23:18SPEAKER_04: Um, and it's so fascinating.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: They did two seasons where it's like where they determine what is the best physical body, and they'll put them through the most rigorous tests I've ever seen of all these different body types, male and female, and and you know, and tall men, short woman, or short man, you know, like or like somebody big, bulky who can carry like tons of crap.
- 23:45SPEAKER_04: And it was just so fascinating to see like who literally their goal is to find who has the best physique.
- 23:51SPEAKER_04: That was the wording.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: I'm sorry, who has the best physique, and it was so cool to see all these different, like, oh, I'm a fireman, or oh, I'm a fitness influencer.
- 24:01SPEAKER_04: And then you have somebody that was one year, they were a mountain climber, a rescue mountain climber.
- 24:10SPEAKER_04: And he it that would that was a really cool story to watch.
- 24:13SPEAKER_04: Or there is one woman that I envied.
- 24:16SPEAKER_04: She was a stump performer out in Korea, and she did really, really well.
- 24:21SPEAKER_04: It was really, really cool to see the females really kind of be like, yeah, like sh like, don't underestimate me, kind of feel.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: Nothing wrong with that.
- 24:30SPEAKER_04: And that was kind of really cool to watch.
- 24:32SPEAKER_04: So I love watching Physical 100.
- 24:33SPEAKER_04: They just brought out Physical 100 Italy, which we've binge watched yes, like a few days ago, and now they're about to put out a physical 100 Mexico, and apparently there's a USA version, so we're just binge watching uh these physical 100 shows now.
- 24:50SPEAKER_04: And then there was another one from Korea, a reality show that was like culinary class wars, I think.
- 24:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it had two seasons.
- 24:59SPEAKER_04: It's so good.
- 25:00SPEAKER_09: That's great.
- 25:01SPEAKER_09: So, to our listeners, if they're if you found a new show that you might want to watch or um Lork Luracana that you want to play, or maybe it's just getting some tecular house plans or just learning about the hosts here.
- 25:16SPEAKER_09: Um, I hope that it made you smile.
- 25:18SPEAKER_09: Um, and maybe you can share what makes you happy and that you're currently unhealthily obsessed with right now.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Because that's what Alicia would do.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Caution runners, change of topic ahead.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Oh, friends, the big event for your Rise and Run family this week, this past weekend, of course, was the Bird in Hand half marathon weekend up in lovely Bird in Hand, Pennsylvania, in the south-central part of the state.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: We want to spend some time recapping that tremendous weekend.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Now, I was there, John was there, and Greg was there.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: But if we get to hear from us enough, and you didn't want to just hear from three guys talking about the race weekend.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: So we've invited some of our rise and run family guests to join us this evening.
- 26:14SPEAKER_01: We're here with Caroline.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Hello.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Hi, good to see you, Caroline, and Megan.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: Hi, hi Megan.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: It's good to see you.
- 26:23SPEAKER_01: I I I've missed you, I haven't seen you for a while.
- 26:26SPEAKER_01: But anything new in the last 48 hours?
- 26:29SPEAKER_10: I don't think so.
- 26:30SPEAKER_10: Just recovering.
- 26:32SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 26:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: I think we'll get to that.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: But uh let's take it from the top.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Let's go around here.
- 26:41SPEAKER_01: This is the third time I was up for this race.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: Now, last year I had that back surgery and I walked to the two mile.
- 26:50SPEAKER_01: I thought it was a cone, but it wasn't.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: It was a sandwich board.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: There was a cone nearby.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Slapped that and then turned around and walked back.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: So I just did four miles.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: So, but this is only the second time I've completed that half marathon.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: How many times for you, John?
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: This is my fifth time out there, but my third time doing it.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, yeah.
- 27:09SPEAKER_07: You came to uh cheer I came one completely, yeah, cured the first one I messed up on registration, but I came out anyway, and the year after that I tore my meniscus, so I had surgery, so I couldn't run that one.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: So John came to eat chicken.
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: That's let's cut to the chicken.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: John came to eat the chicken.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: That's an and the and the shoe fly pie.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 27:31SPEAKER_04: So isn't it a thing where like you do it a fourth time and now you're a full horse?
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: Because it's like the metals are like what are those called?
- 27:39SPEAKER_04: The hoofs?
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: Horseshoes, horseshoes.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: Horseshoes.
- 27:42SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 27:44SPEAKER_04: I'm so tired, you guys.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: It's not just a game, it's not just a game.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: It's really things, and they're real too.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they came up, they came off a horse.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:56unknown: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_04: John, you're gonna have a whole horse next year.
- 28:00SPEAKER_04: Be excited.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I hope so.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: The little horsies go to the shoe store and they get new shoes and they give us their old ones.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Isn't that sweet?
- 28:11SPEAKER_04: Very nice.
- 28:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so nice of them.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Caroline, how many times for you?
- 28:16SPEAKER_08: So this was my fifth time in six years.
- 28:20SPEAKER_08: I had to skip a year, but wow, yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't want to skip it, but yeah, and you're not you're in Atlanta, so you're not exactly next door.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: That's a that's a pretty big deal.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, Greg knows how far it is from the Philadelphia area.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: How many times out there for you, Greg?
- 28:37SPEAKER_06: This was my sixth time, so I guess either I have a horse and a half or I have a gimpy horse.
- 28:43SPEAKER_06: Uh however you want to put that.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: So I was thinking a horse and a trailer, but of course a trailer doesn't have a horse and a trailer.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: Okay, I like that.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 28:51SPEAKER_06: It's got dualies on the back.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: A really big horse.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Um Megan, this is your first time out there, wasn't it?
- 29:03SPEAKER_10: First time, yep.
- 29:04SPEAKER_01: So that's a course PR.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: We know that.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: We'll we'll we'll leave it right there for now, okay.
- 29:11SPEAKER_01: We'll call it a course PR.
- 29:13SPEAKER_04: Uh, Megan, with this being your first time, I'm just curious.
- 29:16SPEAKER_04: What made you want to do bird in hand?
- 29:18SPEAKER_10: Honestly, I'd heard about it um, I guess a couple years ago once I started listening to Y'all's podcast and I'd heard so many good things about it, and I was like, well, I'm not really you know, we all go through that.
- 29:31SPEAKER_10: I'm not really a runner yet.
- 29:34SPEAKER_10: So I wasn't like I wasn't ready to make that journey, I don't think.
- 29:40SPEAKER_10: And so I felt like okay, I'm this I think this is what this is my year.
- 29:46SPEAKER_10: So yeah.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: We're glad you did.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: There's a difference between you start doing some local runs and then you figure, okay, that's fun, but you know, traveling for one, boy, that's I'm serious now.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: But I'm glad you did.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: That's that's great.
- 30:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Megan, you came from Tennessee too, so it's both Caroline and you traveled pretty far.
- 30:08SPEAKER_09: I mean, Bob as well.
- 30:09SPEAKER_09: Um, John and Greg, it's a little bit closer, but um, it's definitely one that a lot of our f friends will travel a decent distance to get to.
- 30:17SPEAKER_01: Megan, you talked about going because you heard about it on the podcast.
- 30:21SPEAKER_01: John, one of the race officials made a comment to you, didn't they?
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, when they saw your shirt.
- 30:27SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 30:27SPEAKER_07: They asked me, You're from Rise and Run?
- 30:29SPEAKER_07: I go, Yeah, it goes, I need to talk to you.
- 30:31SPEAKER_07: I'm like, uh-oh, what did we do?
- 30:34SPEAKER_07: He goes, uh on their when you sign up for the race, they ask you, how did you hear about the race?
- 30:41SPEAKER_07: And they said, You guys came up as like one of the top hits in their word search uh data.
- 30:47SPEAKER_07: So he goes, I just got to see it, see, see you guys, and thank you.
- 30:53SPEAKER_07: So uh and I did send her our group photo, so she was like, Oh my god.
- 30:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: And and quite a number of people, well, not quite a number, there were a few that missed it.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: So we had more than that.
- 31:06SPEAKER_06: This was the first year in all the years that I've run it where they have officially announced that the half marathon was sold out, right?
- 31:16SPEAKER_06: So, you know, so that goes to show that not just through us, but a lot of other external factors, you know, this race is truly growing in popularity.
- 31:25SPEAKER_06: Now, it's not selling out in Run Disney fashion by any means whatsoever.
- 31:30SPEAKER_06: You know, obviously, you know, you you know, I we were talking about you know a couple episodes back, you know, they had just announced that it was full.
- 31:36SPEAKER_06: So, you know, if you're interested for next year, you definitely have time.
- 31:39SPEAKER_06: It's not something that you have to immediately hop on the the day that you know registration drops, but but you know, it it's continuing to grow, which is awesome to see.
- 31:47SPEAKER_04: How many people run the event?
- 31:49SPEAKER_06: Uh 2000.
- 31:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah, 2000 half, uh, and then I'm not sure how many were in the 5K.
- 31:56SPEAKER_06: No, I don't know that.
- 31:57SPEAKER_06: But that did not sell out, that that was still available to register for uh day of.
- 32:04SPEAKER_09: I want to go back to traveling there for a moment.
- 32:07SPEAKER_09: Um, I'm gonna go to you, Megan, because this was your first time at the race.
- 32:11SPEAKER_09: Was this also your first time kind of in an Amish country setting?
- 32:16SPEAKER_09: Um, and if so, how was that um coming into and seeing that um that type of lifestyle?
- 32:24SPEAKER_10: So it was not my first time in an Amish setting.
- 32:28SPEAKER_10: Um, I'm from Tennessee.
- 32:31SPEAKER_10: Um we have a few Amish communities around here.
- 32:36SPEAKER_10: I'm in the Knoxville area.
- 32:39SPEAKER_10: Um, but out, you know, on the outskirts and stuff, like there's there's definitely some Amish communities.
- 32:45SPEAKER_10: Um by the way, they make fantastic donuts.
- 32:49SPEAKER_10: Um and so to me, it was just it was it was new, but it was also familiar.
- 32:58SPEAKER_10: So yeah, yeah, it was very nice.
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: We all got there.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Um I got there Thursday.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: I got to stay at the Bird and Hand Inn across the street, and I got to do that because I made my reservations about this time last year.
- 33:17SPEAKER_01: So we get in there uh on Thursday, Becky and I do, and I sometimes Becky doesn't act too excited about going, sometimes.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: So I'm never sure.
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: And when we check in, the person says to us, So there's a pink slip of paper in here, and if you're coming back next year, you can fill it out now and get a ration, get a reservation for the next year's race.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: Becky says to me, fill the paper out.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: So we already have our room for next year, and uh we're gonna drive, Megan.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: We're gonna drive all the way up from Florida, but we're probably gonna take four or five days to do it.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: I think we're gonna stop at different places along the way, you know, drive a couple, two, three hundred miles a day and just take it easy and enjoy life that way.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: But it's it's that kind of event.
- 34:08SPEAKER_01: We're really enjoying it.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Um, where did you all stay?
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: Caroline, where'd you stay?
- 34:13SPEAKER_08: This year I stayed at the true by Hilton.
- 34:17SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: So we stayed different places almost every year.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: So you were in the rune block, right?
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: That we had from Magic Mound.
- 34:25SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 34:26unknown: No.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: Oh no Greg, edit that out, Greg.
- 34:30SPEAKER_08: I I tend to not pay attention sometimes.
- 34:33SPEAKER_08: I don't hear something.
- 34:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we had a rune block in the true, yeah.
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: So you you did there should have been a lot of friends there.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: Uh Megan have there.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: Megan was there, say uh Greg was there.
- 34:48SPEAKER_06: Yes, I was.
- 34:49SPEAKER_06: Yeah, just for one night, but um, you know, since I was close enough.
- 34:52SPEAKER_06: But yeah, I mean the the the true did the trick, uh, got a lot of feedback uh from you know friends that that stayed there.
- 35:00SPEAKER_06: You know, it was only a couple of minutes away, but you know, right there on Route 30, Lancaster Avenue, there's a ton of hotels of all sorts of different brands and chains and such, uh, you know, because you have the big attraction, Dutch Wonderland, right down the street, you know.
- 35:14SPEAKER_06: So, yeah.
- 35:15SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I think we're all a little too tall for the rides at Dutch Wonderland, but uh the good news is at the and I know we'll get this uh to this in a second, but at the pizza and pasta party prior and I guess post the 5k, I was already in contact with Maggie from Magic Bound because in our packet pickup, they actually have a business card of next year's dates.
- 35:36SPEAKER_06: So I already sent that uh to her and Brad, and they are going to start working on a room block for next year's race.
- 35:46SPEAKER_06: We don't know if it's going to be the true uh this particular time around, but uh they're definitely gonna be exploring all their options.
- 35:53SPEAKER_06: And as soon as we have information, we will get that posted out to the community so Caroline can sign up at the room block next year and not just do it on her own.
- 36:01SPEAKER_09: Can you share the dates, Greg?
- 36:03SPEAKER_06: Yes, uh the dates, uh yeah, so it's the uh it's the exact same weekend, so it's the weekend after Labor Day.
- 36:09SPEAKER_06: So it is the 10th and the 11th uh of September in 2027.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: All right, you know, we've talked a little bit about how many people were there, how many people ran.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: One of the things I find really interesting, now the city of Lancaster, Greg, you mentioned Lancaster is just, I mean, I think it's like five miles west, maybe, maybe not even that far before you get to the border, the boundary of the city.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Uh Lancaster is a city of about 60,000 people.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: Not a big city, certainly not by northeast standards, but you know, 60k.
- 36:40SPEAKER_01: Not small.
- 36:41SPEAKER_01: Did you know that Lancaster is the oldest inland city, non-coastal city in the U.S.?
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: Well, there you go.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: See?
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: Glad you learned that.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Glad you tuned in.
- 36:52SPEAKER_01: Um, I learned that this weekend.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: I learned a lot of things.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: But Bird in Hand proper is a community of about five or six hundred people total.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: And yet there's two thousand people at the race.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: And if you think about the 2,000 people at the race, at least 5% of the race was Ryzen Runners, at least.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: We had at least 50 people racing.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: I think we had more than that, but not too shabby.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, one of the reasons I learned about it, I took they have a farm tour that they run out of the bird in hand in so Becky and I took that on Friday and went through.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Well, the the part of the country we went through was pretty much the part that we ran through.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: We stopped at a uh place that made the most amazing soft pretzels.
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: Here's yeah.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Here's another one.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: I think Pennsylvania, well, Pennsylvania is without question the pretzel capital of the country, if not the world.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: And I think like 80% of the pretzels made in the US are made in Pennsylvania somewhere.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: So also on Friday, so it was the 5K and then also packet pickup for both races, correct?
- 38:15SPEAKER_09: Caroline, do you want to talk about your packet pickup?
- 38:18SPEAKER_09: And if you did the 5K, um share that experience as well.
- 38:23SPEAKER_08: Sure.
- 38:23SPEAKER_08: Uh well, I did the uh well, I registered for the uh fire company challenge, which is the 5K and the half.
- 38:33SPEAKER_08: And um I had had kind of a crazy week.
- 38:36SPEAKER_08: So when I got there, I decided just to socialize with people and not do the 5k.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I tried pushing you.
- 38:42SPEAKER_08: So yeah, I had my bib on and everybody kept saying, You need to go.
- 38:46SPEAKER_08: You're late, you're late.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:48SPEAKER_08: I was like, uh, no.
- 38:49SPEAKER_08: I mean, I was just gonna walk it anyway.
- 38:51SPEAKER_08: And I've done it in the past.
- 38:53SPEAKER_08: Um, and uh, and it is, I will say, it is gorgeous because you get the sunset and all of that.
- 39:00SPEAKER_08: So it's, you know, obviously a different time of day because it's at night.
- 39:04SPEAKER_08: I it starts at six or six thirty.
- 39:07SPEAKER_01: Six thirty.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: Six thirty.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: The kid, the kids race one at six.
- 39:11SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 39:11SPEAKER_08: So the um packet pickup is you know, but it's a smaller race, so it's easy to, you know, do it.
- 39:20SPEAKER_08: You get to you can go in straight in.
- 39:22SPEAKER_08: They have, you know, the last name letters you can pick up for a friend.
- 39:26SPEAKER_08: You don't need anything because I guess they trust that everybody's careful.
- 39:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know.
- 39:33SPEAKER_08: Um, so that's easy.
- 39:35SPEAKER_08: You get your shirts, and if you do the fire company challenge, you get um another, it's been different in the past, but another gift, um, which I think this year it was the board again.
- 39:49SPEAKER_08: The only reason I say that is I saw them.
- 39:51SPEAKER_08: I went by it because I didn't have room in my suitcase, which I know is kind of criminal, but I have a few of them from the past.
- 39:58SPEAKER_08: So um, you know, I wasn't gonna, you know, keep getting those cheese boards.
- 40:02SPEAKER_08: But they've done different cups and different things like that in the past, too.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Those things are nice.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: In fact, that's the other thing Becky said.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: You're running a 5k next year.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: She wants the board.
- 40:18SPEAKER_08: Why should I pick up a board and given it to you?
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Nah, we're fine.
- 40:23SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so it's easy, it's much easier than Disney to go and do your pickup and expo.
- 40:29SPEAKER_08: Expo's a little smaller than yeah, yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_09: Megan, how about you?
- 40:34SPEAKER_09: And then I'll go to the guys to see how their experience was.
- 40:37SPEAKER_10: I drove straight there and got my bib, got my shirt, walked around and looked at socks because I'm starting like that.
- 40:49SPEAKER_10: Um, and then grabbed something to eat, and that was it.
- 40:53SPEAKER_10: I didn't do the 5k.
- 40:55SPEAKER_10: Um, but it was probably the easiest bib pickup expo that I have ever experienced.
- 41:03SPEAKER_10: So it was enjoyable.
- 41:05SPEAKER_10: It was nice.
- 41:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I saw some pictures that I don't remember.
- 41:07SPEAKER_09: There were so many posts um from the weekend, but somebody posted the expo and the little tables and stuff, and it was it was really neat, all of the vendors and and different things that were available.
- 41:18SPEAKER_10: They had so many cool things set up.
- 41:21SPEAKER_10: Um, fun fact, I don't know if you all saw the table where they had all the ironwork um with all the horseshoes and the pumpkins.
- 41:29SPEAKER_10: That guy made my metal.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Um, that wow.
- 41:34SPEAKER_10: So as um after afterwards, um he saw it and he asked me, I because I still had it on.
- 41:41SPEAKER_10: He said, Can I can I see that?
- 41:43SPEAKER_10: And I was like, sure.
- 41:45SPEAKER_10: So I took it off and handed it to him and he looked at it and he kind of told me he said, I made this.
- 41:50SPEAKER_10: And he was showing me all the different things and telling me about you know how some of them are, you know, taller on one side than they are the other, and um just went through the whole process of what they do uh to prepare them.
- 42:04SPEAKER_10: And it was so cool.
- 42:06SPEAKER_10: And I I wish I would have thought to get a picture with him.
- 42:09SPEAKER_10: Um, but you know, in the moment it was just I was in the moment and enjoying the conversation and he was super nice, but that probably was one of the highlights of my weekend.
- 42:19SPEAKER_09: So what a full circle moment of like you know that you got this from a horse that used it, and and people have made this horseshoe and um getting to speak to the person that that helped with that experience is really cool.
- 42:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, his name was um Elon, and he also does blacksmith classes.
- 42:37SPEAKER_10: So I don't know, maybe next year we'll get a group together.
- 42:42SPEAKER_10: We'll get my group.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe so.
- 42:46SPEAKER_10: I have his card, just let me know.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: Okay, I will.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: I could brush up on my blacksmithing.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: I haven't done that for oh, never mind.
- 42:54SPEAKER_09: John, I know you've done the race before.
- 42:56SPEAKER_09: How did the expo go for you picking up your stuff?
- 42:59SPEAKER_09: And then did you do the 5K?
- 43:01SPEAKER_07: No, I did not do the 5k, but my bib pickup was perfect.
- 43:04SPEAKER_07: I didn't have to touch my bib because Bob picked it up for me because you came in the next day.
- 43:12SPEAKER_07: I I I know I came in, I came in Friday, but I forgot what time they closed the bib pickup.
- 43:20SPEAKER_07: I don't know if if it was five o'clock or whatever.
- 43:23SPEAKER_07: So I just said, I don't know what time it is.
- 43:25SPEAKER_07: And Bob goes, Oh, I'll grab your bib.
- 43:27SPEAKER_07: But I made sure Bob did not take the whoopee pie out of my head.
- 43:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, those whoopie pies look so good.
- 43:38SPEAKER_08: They are.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: They are I gave John no guarantees, but he got his whoopee pie.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, I did.
- 43:44SPEAKER_09: Bob or Greg, did you do the 5k?
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: No, I no, I I didn't.
- 43:49SPEAKER_06: No, I I didn't either, but I the the reason why I have never done the 5K before is previously like based on timing of work and then you know getting right.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: You know, off the bus from school.
- 44:01SPEAKER_06: I was never able to get there out early enough.
- 44:04SPEAKER_06: Definitely, like Bob, definitely going to consider the fireman's challenge next year.
- 44:09SPEAKER_06: But at the same time, though, I enjoy not doing the 5K as well because then, number one, give us more time to socialize under the tent during the pizza and pasta party.
- 44:19SPEAKER_06: And then also cheering all of our friends in uh at the finish line too, which is always a ton of fun because the 5K course, it while having never done it, and and you know, Caroline, you can, you know, uh, you know, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I mean it's pretty much the start of the course and and the end of the course with like a little connector in between.
- 44:39SPEAKER_06: So you do see the sights, don't worry.
- 44:41SPEAKER_06: There is the you know, you do get the camel for uh for the 5k as well, too.
- 44:46SPEAKER_06: So in terms of like you know, seeing a different part of you know of the countryside there, you're really not getting that.
- 44:52SPEAKER_06: It's just you know, again, allowing you to have that extra distance and the shorter distance, you know, for friends that might not be ready for a uh a half marathon.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's the same same reasoning is that I've enjoyed hanging around the tent, and I've never done it, but I've as I said earlier, I've been told I'm doing it next year.
- 45:11SPEAKER_04: Okay, so after all of this, you guys got to do a pasta dinner and have s'mores.
- 45:17SPEAKER_04: Did you cook s'mores at a fire pit?
- 45:20SPEAKER_04: Or what happened?
- 45:21SPEAKER_04: And was this all included for with you guys' registration?
- 45:24SPEAKER_04: Did you have to pay anything extra for it?
- 45:26SPEAKER_04: Because I'm curious because free food is free food and I'm always game.
- 45:31SPEAKER_08: The pasta dinner is extra.
- 45:34SPEAKER_08: I forgot, like$15.
- 45:37SPEAKER_06: Uh 18, maybe I was 18 this year.
- 45:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:40SPEAKER_08: I don't yeah, I I don't like all you can like Olive Garden.
- 45:45SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 45:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 45:47SPEAKER_08: Just like Olive Garden.
- 45:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and it's in these big tents.
- 45:52SPEAKER_08: I'm sure you all have seen the pictures.
- 45:54SPEAKER_08: It's a huge like community tent family dinner kind of thing.
- 46:01SPEAKER_08: Um, and that's all you can eat.
- 46:03SPEAKER_08: There's pizza, pasta, breadsticks, I think, um salad, um, desserts.
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 46:11SPEAKER_08: Um yeah, it's good.
- 46:13SPEAKER_08: It's good.
- 46:14SPEAKER_08: Um, and then the s'mores.
- 46:17SPEAKER_08: I didn't do the s'mores this year.
- 46:18SPEAKER_08: So the pasta dinner, you know, and there are a ton of tables in there.
- 46:23SPEAKER_08: So people will all come and get together, sit together with their friends.
- 46:27SPEAKER_08: Or, I mean, we have such a big group.
- 46:29SPEAKER_08: We're all with people that we at least sort of know.
- 46:32SPEAKER_08: But I think a lot of other people are just sitting with whoever else is at the table, you know.
- 46:38SPEAKER_08: Um, and in the past, I mean, I think the first year I did it, we did have a group, um, but not this big.
- 46:46SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, so everybody can kind of just sit together and enjoy food together.
- 46:51SPEAKER_08: And you're right about the 5K.
- 46:53SPEAKER_08: It's it's unless you start eating really early, it starts being kind of tough to squeeze in a 5K and the dinner and you know, everything.
- 47:02SPEAKER_08: And this the s'mores, there's a fire pit out there.
- 47:05SPEAKER_08: I didn't do it this year, but and that's separate.
- 47:08SPEAKER_08: I think anybody can do the s'mores.
- 47:11SPEAKER_08: Um, I've done it in the past.
- 47:13SPEAKER_08: I don't know why I didn't do it this year.
- 47:15SPEAKER_08: I got caught up talking to people.
- 47:16SPEAKER_04: And I tell you what, microwaving a s'more is not the same as cooking something fire.
- 47:23SPEAKER_04: I've done it both.
- 47:25SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 47:26SPEAKER_07: I believe you.
- 47:27SPEAKER_07: I opted against the pasta party, but because they make the most awesome pretzel sandwiches.
- 47:36SPEAKER_07: So it's uh it's ham and cheese baked inside of a pretzel.
- 47:41SPEAKER_07: So yeah, so we got those instead.
- 47:44SPEAKER_07: You can tell them what you're talking about though, John.
- 47:46SPEAKER_07: They're like food trucks there.
- 47:47SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I didn't know.
- 47:48SPEAKER_07: There's food trucks.
- 47:48SPEAKER_07: There's food trucks there.
- 47:50SPEAKER_07: So in so in the in the expo area, they have uh like a smooth uh outside the expo area, they have food trucks with different food, like a coffee truck, uh a taco truck, I think it was, and some other things.
- 48:05SPEAKER_07: But inside they have a pretzels truck.
- 48:09SPEAKER_07: So they have pretzels, they have and they have pretzel wraps, we'd call it, where it's a ham and cheese or something else in cheese wrapped inside of a pretzel.
- 48:19SPEAKER_07: And and they're hot.
- 48:20SPEAKER_07: So it was that was my meal for the uh for the night.
- 48:23SPEAKER_07: And in the morning, also they do have like egg and cheese or bacon egg and cheese wrapped in a pretzel.
- 48:30SPEAKER_09: Sounds good.
- 48:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I also opted against the uh the pizza and pasta party one because I forgot to register for it, but two, yeah, and I I know we've mentioned this in previous years and and actually in just in previous weeks as well.
- 48:43SPEAKER_06: Too is you know, to me, the that meal pales in comparison to the meal that we'll talk about after the half marathon on Saturday.
- 48:54SPEAKER_06: To me, with with the type of food that you get and the qu and how the quality compares to the picnic,$18 was a little too rich for my blood this year because it keeps going, which I understand inflation and and you know, and just things in general right now are expensive.
- 49:10SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 49:10SPEAKER_06: Um, so my dinner for the night after uh you know I bid farewell to everybody and we cheered in the last uh 5k finishers.
- 49:18SPEAKER_06: Um, I ended up going to Costco because I knew I wanted pizza, but I I didn't want to pay for$18 pizza, but I was willing to pay for$1.99 pizza.
- 49:30SPEAKER_04: That's so fair.
- 49:32SPEAKER_06: So we uh so it was myself, uh, my Burdenham buddy Lizzie and uh Allie without knee.
- 49:39SPEAKER_06: We booked it over to Costco and we literally I scanned my card about 10 minutes before the store closed, and then I think with we ordered a schmorgesborg at Costco, and all of our food was actually less than$18.
- 49:56SPEAKER_06: Uh but because the store was closing, we uh we just ate everything.
- 50:00SPEAKER_06: I just opened up the tailgate of uh of my uh SUV and we just ate on the back of my car.
- 50:05SPEAKER_06: But the part that we love the most, and again, the these are things that you can only get in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, is there was an Amish family that was doing their shopping at Costco, and at the front of the parking lot there was horse and buggy parking.
- 50:23SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, and they had a a metal cart built off the the back of their buggy, and that's where they you know put all of their bulk groceries, and then the horse just trotted out of the parking lot and you know and headed back to their home.
- 50:38SPEAKER_06: So that that was a really interesting, you know, yesteryear meets modern day society um all inside of a Costco.
- 50:46SPEAKER_06: It was beautiful.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: Megan, did you make it to the pasta party?
- 50:51SPEAKER_10: I did, yeah.
- 50:52SPEAKER_10: Um what'd you think?
- 50:53SPEAKER_10: I kept it very lot though.
- 50:55SPEAKER_10: I just did like a piece of pizza and then um a couple of meatballs for protein and then of course bread.
- 51:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 51:02SPEAKER_01: I remember seeing you now.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: I did meatballs.
- 51:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, I remember you yeah, you were wearing white.
- 51:08SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: And I said, only make it.
- 51:10SPEAKER_01: I said you were very courageous showing up to a spaghetti dinner with a white jacket on.
- 51:15SPEAKER_10: It was fine.
- 51:16SPEAKER_10: I was tired getting a job.
- 51:18SPEAKER_10: Um no, but I thought it was good.
- 51:20SPEAKER_10: Um, I did opt out of um s'mores and desserts just because I did not know how my body would deal with that.
- 51:30SPEAKER_10: So I skipped out on that.
- 51:32SPEAKER_10: Um, but I'm okay with that.
- 51:34SPEAKER_10: Um it was good.
- 51:36SPEAKER_10: I mean, you know, for what it was.
- 51:39SPEAKER_06: I will say this though.
- 51:40SPEAKER_06: There is one advantage to the pasta party over the the picnic on Saturday, and that is the dessert selection is much better there because I mean, sure, you still get the soft serve ice cream, but they have more of a variety of like they have the shoe fly pie and various uh other pies and cakes, whereas during the picnic it's just the ice cream and essentially birthday cake.
- 52:10SPEAKER_06: Uh great still hits the spot after the run, but there is a bit more variety at the the pizza and pasta dinner.
- 52:16SPEAKER_06: So if you are an Amish dessert connoisseur, then yes, the the pizza and pasta party is for you.
- 52:22SPEAKER_01: And fewer people in line to get it too.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Um I wanted to make a quick comment on the uh bib pickup, which I kind of forgot about.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: I did mine earlier in the day, and I walked over, and as everyone else has said, it's very simple.
- 52:36SPEAKER_01: You know, my last name's Rikley.
- 52:38SPEAKER_01: Okay, you're Bob.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: Yes, here you go.
- 52:40SPEAKER_01: Then you'd go to the next station to get your shirt.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: And I showed my bib, and the lady said, Ladies 2XL?
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: And I went, no, no, see, right there it says gender male.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: She goes, I know, but look at the bottom.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: It said ladies 2XL.
- 52:56SPEAKER_01: I must have pressed the wrong button when I registered.
- 53:00SPEAKER_01: And she looks at me, she goes, I'm not giving you a ladies 2xl.
- 53:05SPEAKER_01: So I got the right shirt.
- 53:06SPEAKER_01: In fairness, Bob, you do look great in the V-neck.
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: Why thank you, Greg.
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: I appreciate that.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: Hey, my comment on the pasta party, it's the third one I've been to.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: I was kind of down on them.
- 53:18SPEAKER_01: I thought this year's was pretty good.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: I really did.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: I I thought the pizza was good.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: Uh and what happens a lot of times the pasta sits in the steam tray too long.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: It gets really soggy.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: Maybe I was early, or maybe I just deliberately took it from the top and didn't go down to the bottom of the steam tray.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: But I was happy and the salad was I mean, salad salad, but it was terrific.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: So I was I was much higher on the pasta party this year than I've been in past years.
- 53:50SPEAKER_01: I thought it was pretty good.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: So that was my experience.
- 53:55SPEAKER_04: Now it's the next morning, and it's race day, and of course we're all excited to get up early for race day.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: So, how was your guys' run?
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: I uh ladies first.
- 54:07SPEAKER_08: Well, I ran with Greg, which was so fun.
- 54:12SPEAKER_08: Yes, it was running with me.
- 54:13SPEAKER_06: Oh, thank you.
- 54:14SPEAKER_08: Um, yeah, we had a we just had a great plan.
- 54:17SPEAKER_08: We knew we run very similarly, which is we probably run a little too fast during the run portion and we walk kind of fast during the walk portion, but it works if you're with somebody who also does that.
- 54:32SPEAKER_08: Um, because we knew what ratios we wanted to do, um, which we did 60-30 pretty much the whole time, except for Hills.
- 54:41SPEAKER_08: We did some 30-30s.
- 54:43SPEAKER_08: We had some a variety of goals.
- 54:47SPEAKER_08: You know, we had a we had a Greg PR goal, and then we had sort of an A goal, but we weren't getting wrapped up in it.
- 54:56SPEAKER_06: No, we weren't, no.
- 54:58SPEAKER_08: Um, we were just kind of enjoying it.
- 55:00SPEAKER_08: It was it was interesting that we seemed to both be on the exact same page because sometimes you get in there and you realize, whoa, one person has decided or didn't feel well or feels great or whatever, and it doesn't always work out.
- 55:14SPEAKER_08: But it felt like we were just completely in sync.
- 55:18SPEAKER_08: And um, so we started and we were behind when we started, we're behind the 230 pacers.
- 55:26SPEAKER_08: And it's not like Disney.
- 55:28SPEAKER_08: I mean, this is just the gun goes off or whatever, and you everybody goes, you know, there's no corrals or anything like that, but we started behind them.
- 55:37SPEAKER_08: So it kind of started us off on a, you know, a set pace because everybody's kind of going in a pack.
- 55:43SPEAKER_08: And then we slowly sort of passed them.
- 55:46SPEAKER_08: And at some point, I know Greg was like, they're the two 20, uh, two 20 pacers up there.
- 55:53SPEAKER_08: And we're like, oh, nice.
- 55:55SPEAKER_08: So we go along, go along.
- 55:56SPEAKER_08: And there's a lot we can talk about with the course, but in terms of the race, you know, we saw him and at one point he said, Oh, y'all are doing run walk.
- 56:04SPEAKER_08: And uh, and we said, Yeah, because we kind of kept leap for, you know, going the forth and back, especially as their group thinned out a little.
- 56:13SPEAKER_08: Um, it was easier to do that, but we kind of kept him in our sights the whole time, which was nice because we figured if he's on track, um, which it seemed like he was, we knew we knew kind of about where we were without having to constantly check our watches.
- 56:28SPEAKER_09: And these are pacers that the the race puts on, right?
- 56:32SPEAKER_08: So yes, and they are and I don't they're not galloway, no.
- 56:37SPEAKER_08: Um, and I don't know if all of them are Amish.
- 56:42SPEAKER_08: I think they must be.
- 56:43SPEAKER_08: Those are the only ones I've seen.
- 56:45SPEAKER_06: I don't think so because I think when we when we saw the 230, they were in running singlet and that and everything where but but the 220, he was he was part of the Amish community.
- 56:56SPEAKER_06: So I think it it is a mix and match, including the lead pacer of the horse and buggy, which is also extremely, extremely unique to this race as well.
- 57:06SPEAKER_08: Right, right.
- 57:07SPEAKER_08: And a lot of the pacers are wearing their full-on outfits.
- 57:11SPEAKER_08: And some this year I noticed more like running shoes, very plain running shoes, but I noticed more than I had in the past.
- 57:20SPEAKER_08: I don't know if I was just paying more attention, you know, or or or maybe when I'd done it in the past, I I noticed more uh the traditional boots just because it was new to me.
- 57:32SPEAKER_08: But yeah, some of them are running in, you know, boots and everything.
- 57:37SPEAKER_08: Uh, you know, makes you feel like, okay, I guess I can do this.
- 57:41SPEAKER_08: Because I'm wearing like shorts and running, running shoes.
- 57:45SPEAKER_08: Um there's a lot more with the course, but I'll I guess I'll let Megan tell hers.
- 57:50SPEAKER_10: Uh course was beautiful, loved that.
- 57:53SPEAKER_10: Um I kind of went into things with a I and I I only told one person.
- 57:59SPEAKER_10: Um, no, I take that back.
- 58:01SPEAKER_10: I told two people I told Roxanne, um, sweet little Roxanne, and then I told Bob and I I said, I think I'm I might go for a PR.
- 58:10SPEAKER_10: Um I know that in the past I have done some halves that I have not been um trained up enough.
- 58:19SPEAKER_10: And so this one I have really been, I'm doing my first full in January.
- 58:24SPEAKER_10: So I've really been working hard.
- 58:26SPEAKER_10: And um I thought, you know, I I kind of feel like I might be able to get a little PR, you know.
- 58:33SPEAKER_10: So my my main goal was under 315.
- 58:38SPEAKER_10: Um and then my tiny in the back of my head goal was to get my first sub three.
- 58:46SPEAKER_10: I thought uh when I finished that I, you know, finished at like 301.
- 58:54SPEAKER_10: And I was still very happy with that because you know, that's still, you know, that's a PR.
- 58:59SPEAKER_10: And then I get the text message with my time and it was 258.
- 59:05SPEAKER_10: So not only did I get a PR, but it was a 20-minute PR and a two sub-three.
- 59:16SPEAKER_10: So it was just I had it honestly, that's probably the best race that I've ever had.
- 59:21SPEAKER_10: I don't think I ever hit the wall.
- 59:22SPEAKER_10: My nutrition was great, my hydration was great.
- 59:25SPEAKER_10: I just I thoroughly enjoyed it.
- 59:28SPEAKER_10: Um, I had uh some really awesome people that were um giving me holler hops throughout the whole race.
- 59:37SPEAKER_10: So um that was, you know, that's always entertaining to get those.
- 59:41SPEAKER_10: But um yeah, that was a hope that I I can have another race that good.
- 59:50SPEAKER_10: It was just, and I don't mean just with the PR or anything, it was just enjoyable and I could enjoy the scenery.
- 59:58SPEAKER_10: I think one of my favorite parts was seeing all the kids that were handing out the water, and I just remember there was like a line of these little girls holding out these little cups that were just like Gatorade.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_10: Enchant, yes, the chant.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was so cute.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_10: And then um uh I don't know if you all stopped, but I stopped to pet puppies, and I'm probably a good thing that I was not carrying a backpack because I would have absolutely sacrificed a PR for a puppy.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_10: So um it was just I I loved it.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_10: This this by far was one of my favorite races that I've done, and not not just for personal reasons, but it was so well organized and it's a very clean environment.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_10: It's everyone is so friendly, and you just don't you don't get that level of friendly in a lot of other places, so it was enjoyable.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_07: I have a question for you, Megan.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_07: I know everyone talks about this all the time.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_07: The hills.
- 1:01:11SPEAKER_07: How do you rate the hills in this this course?
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_10: Okay, so I did not think they were as bad as what I had heard and read.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_10: Um, but I'm also I live in Tennessee and and I did Dollywood.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_10: Dollywood was not pretty, but I did Dollywood.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_10: Um so for me, I think it was just kind of like okay, there's there's some hills and we're just gonna do them.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_10: And wasn't terrible.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_09: Well, congratulations on your PI.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_09: That's a a a big, big deal.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_09: John, I want to hear from you.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_09: Did you get your Ritas?
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_07: Of course.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_07: Well, I it it was it was kind of depressing driving in.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_07: I'm driving by, I see the torn-down Ritas on the way in.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_09: I'm like, did your heart break a little?
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_07: Like, I hope that's the I hope there's Ritas on the course.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_07: But yeah, I did get my Ritas on the course, so it was uh it was uh it was well worth it.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_09: I had a Were those in the little cups that I kept thinking were peaches that everybody had, but it was actually Rita's okay.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think everybody got Ritas, everybody had a chance anyway.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yes, there was there's enough on the course, I think, this year.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_06: John, I'm happy to report that they rebuilt the Rita's, it's just across the street from the one that they tore down.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_06: So, so have no fear.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_06: There's still a brick and mortar representation if you ever need, you know, a second helping.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_09: How did your race go other than that, John?
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_06: Well, it actually went really well.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_06: So those weren't the words you used when you came over to us after finishing.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_07: Yes, I I needed time to what do you call adjust?
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_04: Adjust explicit words, John.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_07: Yes, I did.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_07: So my goal here was to get under three hours because my my my my course record here, that my course PR is a 304.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_07: So I said, I just want to get under three hours.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_07: I think I could get under three hours.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_07: So we're I'm running, and I said, I'm just gonna go out and just do my 3030s and just try to get my under three hours.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_07: Then I got to mile 12 with me and Lance and Amy, and we're like, you know, we are like very darn close to a 345.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_07: A 245.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_07: 245, yeah.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_07: A 245.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_07: And I'm like, we might be able to get a 245 out of it.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_07: So we got I got through the finish line.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_07: I got I did get a 245.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_07: It was a 245-41.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_07: So I to me a 245 would have been a 239, a two yeah, yeah, 244, but I did get a 245.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_07: So I got 15 minutes better than I thought I wanted to do this this weekend.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_04: That's still amazing.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_07: Congratulations, man.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_04: You surpassed the like what initial goal of three hours.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_04: Having a 245 is pretty epic to me.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_07: Yeah, because that because then you go through your mind, okay.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_07: If I did that that 10 seconds here, you know, it's but yeah.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_09: Trying to focus on the positive of it, I think, is yeah, the better way to look at it.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_07: And actually, it was my fastest half since 2021.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_07: So awesome.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_07: That's that that that that was uh another thing.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_07: I had to go back and look.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_04: That's great, John.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_07: Thank thanks.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_04: So, John, did you run with Bob?
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_07: No, no, no.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_07: I we st we started out with I think we all started together, but we all have different different intervals going on.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_07: Uh I started out with Lance and Amy and Allie, Lizzie, Steve, and I'm probably gonna forget a couple other people, but uh we started out with them and then before before we got to Rita's, we kind of split up and uh we just kept going and they kind of stayed back.
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_07: You know, I luckily we didn't have a backpack, like you said, because we would have to carry a a a dog for Lizzie, because Lizzie wanted a dog.
- 1:05:28SPEAKER_07: But uh it it was uh it was a pretty uh good race.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_07: And it was it was a good race.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_07: I mean it was a it was it and the weather was perfect, which I don't think we talked about.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it was you know I mean the looking at my my run here, the weather st at the start of the race where we started was sixty two degrees.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's so beautiful.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_07: And when I ended it it said it was seventy one.
- 1:05:54SPEAKER_07: It was still hot out there.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_07: Because you're you're there's no shade.
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_07: So and I ironically I did wear my Hydra patch and and the the SPF factor on that hydra patch is really good because because now I have a tear teardrop uh what do you call it tan lines on my arm?
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: I missed out on that.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_04: Well then, Bob, how did your run go?
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_04: Slow.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_04: Did you run with a group?
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_04: Did you run by yourself?
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_01: I always run with friends.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_01: I I do I do what I can to run with friends.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: And I've I'm thinking here, let's see, I saw Greg and Caroline at the start.
- 1:06:36SPEAKER_01: Never saw them again.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_01: Um I saw I saw John for a little bit.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: Uh I saw Megan for a little while.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: Last time I saw Megan, she had gotten ahead of me, but she'd stopped, as she said, to pet the puppies.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: So I saw her there.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: And then she went on by me.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I ran with friends uh and I I'm gonna be candid.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: I was a touch disappointed.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: I'm John just talked about it was hot.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_01: It was 20 degrees cooler than I've run in in a long time.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_01: So I should have done well.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_01: And I I stayed on my training plan.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: I have learned candidly that I have let myself gain too much weight over this last year.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_01: So I need to take some of that off before I can do better.
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_01: But I do want to talk just in general about the race and about the course.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_01: One thing, we we talk this race up a lot.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_01: And I'm always afraid we're gonna oversell it.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have people go, yeah, it was good, but it wasn't that good.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_01: I got none of that from anybody from the first timers.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_01: All I got from the first timers was, boy, I can't wait to come back.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_01: There are many, many beautiful places in this country, you know.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I've been fortunate to be to some of them.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_01: We can go from Hawaii to the west coast to the Rocky Mountains, and they all have their own beauty.
- 1:08:05SPEAKER_01: But uh South Central Pennsylvania, in the the uh kind of the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, uh has a beauty all of its own, especially this farmland here, especially the Amish country, because a lot of it, there are wires, there are electrical wires throughout, but for a lot of it the vistas are not interrupted by wires.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_01: You can just look out over a valley.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: In fact, there's a there's a there's a road there called Scenic Drive, and it overlooks a valley called the Valley of No Wires.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_01: So it's just gorgeous.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_01: Uh and and I think in that way it's one of the prettiest races I've ever been to.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_01: People talk about the hills.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it of course is hilly, most of it's rolling.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_01: There is one challenging hill, and the thing that makes it really the most challenging is you go uphill and then you turn left.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_01: And I I think I was wrong with Jennifer at the time, and I said to her, now when we turn left, we're still gonna go uphill.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, and then you look up and it turns right, and I said, Yeah, when you turn right, you're still gonna go uphill.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_01: So that's around mile seven or so, I think you guys may remember better than I.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: But then once you crest that, is it seven, John?
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_01: It's seven.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, once once you crest that, it you're not out of the hills, they're still there, but that's the worst of it.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: I didn't have a great race personally, but that's okay.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: I've I'd rather finish with friends than because I times to me in a race just don't mean that much anymore.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_01: I remember when I used to run with Greg and Caroline, but you know, they're they've gotten younger and I've gotten older, and that's just the way of life.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_07: But here's the weird thing about that thing.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_07: Everyone talks about the mile seven hill.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_07: But from basically mile two through four is all uphill.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_07: But it's gradually uphill.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's gradual.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and there is a little mental thing to you're going up a pretty good hill, and there is a mental thing to okay, that's the end.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_01: Oh no, it's not.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's the end, oh no, it's not.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_01: So that that plays with you a little bit.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_10: I have to add, I think one of, and I don't uh you guys will probably know what mile it was, but there was one that and I I I think it was kind of early on in the race, but I just remember you came across like over the top, and then all you could see was just barns and silos and homes, and it just like it was mind-blowing and so pretty, so pretty.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_10: And that to me was probably one of the most breathtaking views on that entire course.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_01: I I I think I know where you're talking about, and that's what I was calling the uh the valley of of no wires, because you could see out there, and the other thing that had happened was there was corn growing up to the side of the road, but a lot of it had just been harvested, so you could see it had had you been there last week, the corn would have blocked a lot of your view.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_01: But we had a great view in that case.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_04: Well, now that we've heard from most people, we got one last person to talk about who also had a pretty epic race and ran with Carolyn.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_04: Sorry, Caroline, my bad, my bad, my bad, my bad, my bad.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_04: But you guys got to run together, you had some amazing goals.
- 1:11:31SPEAKER_04: Tell us about more about these goals and what your new proof of time is, Greg.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_06: I knew based on how races have gone over the course of 2026 that not not trying to be overconfident, but I knew I had based on, especially my 23-mile training run that I had done two weeks prior to Bird in Hand, and I remember when I hit the half marathon mark going at my long run speed limit, I knew there was a fairly good chance that I could get a PR.
- 1:12:07SPEAKER_06: So, and actually, my half marathon PR is six years ago when I did this race.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_06: Um, another friend from the customized training program, my buddy Nate, uh, who lives in Harrisburg, you know, he coached me to it because at that six years ago, the goal was sub-230, get the proof of time.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_06: And obviously, having never experienced that course before, I did my darndest, but I got a 232.
- 1:12:31SPEAKER_06: So I had said to Coach Twiggs leading up to this, I was like, listen, I want to have fun with it, but at the same time, if I can get a PR great, if not, I'm not gonna lose any any sleepover.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_06: Because again, the the purpose of this weekend is community and and being with one another and enjoying just an absolutely gorgeous course.
- 1:12:54SPEAKER_06: But in the back of my mind, I was like, yo, PR would be really nice too.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_06: And then the other idea that I had in my head is Run Disney, I if you've noticed now, at least when it comes to the Marathon weekend page, is that they say if you are um under the proof of time section, if you can run a marathon under five hours, or now they put in parentheses, or a half marathon of under two hours and 22 minutes, you can submit that, which to me kind of confirms what many in the community have been thinking for many, many years is that Run Disney Track Shack uses the McMillan calculator to um you know come up with those tabulations at the different distances.
- 1:13:44SPEAKER_06: So I had said to Caroline, you know, her and I were texting back and forth a couple of weeks leading up.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_06: I said, again, I want this to be casual, I want this to be stress-free, but if I can get a sub 222, that would be fantastic.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_06: But again, if it doesn't happen, that's okay because I got a marathon weekend proof of time when I did the Broad Street 10 miler uh back this past May.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_06: But I was like, if I could have just one more time in the arsenal, so that way when it comes time to registration, I can look at that Google chart or that Excel spreadsheet that someone made up um, you know, a couple of seasons ago about predicted corrals and what time to submit and the whole nine yards.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_06: So I was like, that's the A-goal.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_06: The B goal is sub-230, so that way I can use that for a wine and dine, a princess, or a springtime.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_06: And then Seagull is just to have fun with friends, and I knew I was gonna get the Seagull regardless of however I ran this race.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_06: As similar to what Caroline said um, you know, when she gave her report, is this was just a half marathon for her and I for a chance to catch up because we only get to see each other once a week when we're in a two-inch square on you know a Zoom call.
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_06: You know, so this was a chance to you know learn about, you know, you know, she just sent off you know, uh another daughter to college and you know, and talking about our college experiences and and our families and our running journeys and you know what Run Disney races we have coming up.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_06: So it was just a wonderful conversation for 13.1 miles.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_06: And and first and foremost, Caroline, I have to thank you for that because to me, that was my favorite part of the race was being side by side with you the the entire time.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_08: Oh, me too.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_08: And I, by the way, was going to lose sleep if you didn't get a uh uh uh um p PR.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_08: I didn't say it out loud, but I was like, there's no way unless he's falling down that I'm not gonna let him and then it turned out that it was like not a worry at all.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_01: Correct, yeah.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_08: I didn't say I didn't say it out loud, but I was like, uh-uh, that's not I I'll lose sleep if you don't get that PR.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_06: And this is why I love and respect the hell out of you because yeah, because I I didn't I know you would wouldn't do that to me.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_06: So but um no, it just a lot of things lined up, you know.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_06: I I had said this to Coach Twiggs on the customized training call today that like you know, similar to you know, when you gave your report caroline, you know, you had a gym boss going at 6 30, I had mine going for 3030 for the hills.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_06: All of our beeps like lined up perfectly with the water stops, or if we were coming off a hill, it was at the end of an interval, so it was real easy to switch.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_06: It again, a lot of things went right.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_06: And then, John, to your comment about the weather, I agree.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_06: We definitely did luck out this year.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, the humidity wasn't too too bad.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_06: Um, I looked at hit some historical data.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_06: I think this was the second coolest burden hand that I've run.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_06: Um, comparing it to last year.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_06: Last year we started in the 70s, and this year we started in the low 60s.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_06: So that made a huge difference.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_06: But I'm actually kind of surprised, John, that you got a tan line from your hydro patch because the comment that you know Caroline and I kept talking about the entire time was thank God for this cloud cover, because who knows how different the race would have been if we wouldn't have had it.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, Speedy.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_01: The thing is, the cloud cover went away after that.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_01: It did.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_01: It was sunny at the end of the race.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we were we were still in the sun, Greg.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_06: I think my favorite part of the race was at mile 12, and I I said to Caroline, I was like, this has not felt like two hours because again, we just kept chatting with one another, and then that was the only time that we did math because we were like, okay, this is where we're at.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_06: We have you know just over a mile to go.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_06: Do we have enough time for a camel selfie to still get the sub 222?
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_06: And after we figured out the math, we knew we had plenty of time, so it you know allowed us 30 seconds to get that.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_06: I am gonna talk about the about camel gate in a little bit here, but I I do want to get the end of the race here.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_06: But uh as you know, as we're coming up the uh the final stretch, you know, the only real comment that Caroline made during the whole race was she's like, uh I really would like to beat that 220 guy.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_06: And I was like, okay, but I never really said anything.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_06: And then we made the final turn, and he was maybe a couple of feet in front of us, and I just started bolting, and I just turned over or I leaned over and I was like, let's go.
- 1:18:24SPEAKER_06: And then we we kicked it in the high gear, and and we definitely beat him by at least a good you know eight to ten seconds.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_06: So you know, we got in front of that pacer, and yeah, and I ended up with a 12 and a half minute PR and a new POT for all uh Run Disney race weekend.
- 1:18:44SPEAKER_06: So I'm very, very excited.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_01: Outstanding.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_01: Hey, I I wanted to kick in one more thing I thought about.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_01: First of all, congratulations.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_01: That was great.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_01: Wonderful run.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_01: I don't usually run races with uh any kind of headsets, but and I don't know how many of my friends realize this, I wear hearing aids sometimes.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_01: And one of the reasons I wear hearing aids from being involved in aviation for a while, I have a frequency loss, and it's kind of strange, but I have a hard time hearing women's voices.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_01: And when I'm running, a lot of times my friends are women that I'm running with, and they tend to be shorter than me, and I have to lean way down.
- 1:19:31SPEAKER_01: So I wear my I wear my hearing aids on a lot of races.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm running and I'm listening, and my friends going, Oh, uh I just got hyped from Joe, I just got hype from Susan.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_01: I just go, I never do the hypes because I don't have a headset, and I realized my hearing aids work as a headset.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_01: So I turned holler hype on about mile four, and I again I don't usually use it, and I I got a lot of hypes, and I just wanted to say to the friends who sent those, some of you sent some very nice messages, really kind messages that I genuinely appreciated.
- 1:20:06SPEAKER_01: You know who you are, and I just wanted to thank you for that.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_01: So that was fun.
- 1:20:10SPEAKER_09: Bob, I'm glad that you got to use Holler Hype because we've talked about that kind of recently that you don't use it very often.
- 1:20:17SPEAKER_09: Um, and so I'm glad you got to experience it again.
- 1:20:19SPEAKER_09: Um, but I wanted to go back.
- 1:20:21SPEAKER_09: Greg, you mentioned the camel, which we haven't really talked about yet.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_09: Somebody broke the camel?
- 1:20:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so apparently.
- 1:20:31SPEAKER_06: Um I I think this rumor was started by Allie without knee and Brandy, because you know, if it's Brandy, yeah, of course, she blames everything on it.
- 1:20:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:20:42SPEAKER_06: So unbeknownst to me, you know, a day and a half after the race, people start posting all the photos of the cam of one of the camels laying down on the ground with like its head like cocked off to the side, and everyone was like, Yeah, I have the same camel photo of this broken camel.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_06: So then those two just start this you know erroneous rumor that I broke the camel.
- 1:21:09SPEAKER_06: So then I was trying to provide photographic evidence from the the selfies that Caroline and I took.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_06: Now, the only problem is the the photo, the photo that I posted only had one camel in it.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_06: Thank you for coming to my aid, Caroline, because you at least had another take of both camels upright when we were there.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_06: So if I did something to said camel, I'm sorry, but at the same time, I also do want to give some props to my buddy Riley because she also posted photographic evidence, and I know because she did finish after me, she has camel uh selfies with both camels upright as well.
- 1:21:48SPEAKER_06: Too so really, I I I don't want any of this that you know, please do not send any hate mail.
- 1:21:54SPEAKER_06: Um, you know, if if there ever is another broken camel situation, find somebody else to blame.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_06: It's not mine.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_06: I mean, really, the only disappointing part of the race for me is again after the race, seeing all the photo uh of people holding and petting the puppies, when we went by, there was just a sign out for puppies for sale, not optional petting zoo available.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_06: So we we missed out on that.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_08: I have a quick funny camel story, but it's from last year.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_08: Oh, yes, you gotta tell this, yeah.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_08: Um, so I think first of all, in the five years that I've run it, uh, I'm embarrassed to say I missed the camels twice.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_08: Um I I don't know if I was just in a zone.
- 1:22:41SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_08: I I don't, it doesn't make any sense how I could pass it.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_08: I must have just and I don't listen, I don't listen headphones, I don't listen to music.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_08: So anyway, so last year, you know, people kind of made fun of me because I would say, Where are the camels?
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_08: So on the 5k, um, I was like, people are like, okay, the camels are coming up, you know, like babying me.
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_08: Don't miss the camels.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_08: So I said, okay, I'm gonna get some camel selfies.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_08: So I turned around and I'm doing my selfie all by myself, and a camel comes up and headbutts me in the back.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_08: And I was like, huh.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_08: And because that camp, I had my I had it online photo.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_08: So I could, I could, it wasn't a video, but I could get a little bit and you could see me.
- 1:23:27SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's not real cute, but I'm like the camel coming up and hitting me.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_08: It was so funny.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_08: I didn't know what happened because the camel, when I'm trying to figure out how to get it in, the camel was enough far away from me that you know I didn't think anything of it.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_08: And that camel was having none of me.
- 1:23:44SPEAKER_08: Get away, no.
- 1:23:46SPEAKER_01: Y'all got to the dinner, uh, the chicken dinner before I did.
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_01: How was it?
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_10: I actually did not participate in the dinner in the after the I know, I know.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_10: Um listen, I was very much on a runner's ha.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_10: And then meeting the guy that you know did my metal, I actually went straight to the fruit.
- 1:24:12SPEAKER_10: And so I had some water and some cantaloupe, and then kind of walked around for a little bit just uh to keep moving.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_10: Um, and then left because I knew I would want a nap.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_01: And Jack, before you ask, the this dinner is included in your registration fee.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_04: Ah, okay.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_01: In fact, this dinner is open to the entire bird and hand community.
- 1:24:35SPEAKER_01: And they can walk in.
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_01: The fire department puts it on, they ask for donations, but there's no fee, there's no charge.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_08: And that one's good, I think.
- 1:24:45SPEAKER_08: You know, they have the chicken, they're smoking meats and stuff all day and sausages and I guess hot dogs and all that.
- 1:24:53SPEAKER_08: It's it's and again, it's really fun because it's community.
- 1:24:56SPEAKER_08: You're sitting down with people that you just ran with or, you know, were hanging out with.
- 1:25:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's just it's so fun.
- 1:25:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sure is.
- 1:25:05SPEAKER_09: John, was it as good as you remembered?
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_09: I saw your yearly picture with the chicken bucket.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_07: Yeah, Greg has to get my yearly chicken bucket picture.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_07: So I was good.
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_07: I went to the bottom of the bucket, so you get the the chicken that's sitting in the brine all day.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_01: All grease.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_07: A little salty.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_07: Uh after the race, you kind of need that salt sometimes.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_07: So but we also, me and Greg did have a celebration after the thing.
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_07: We we had pineapple cider.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_07: I did bring some pineapple cider for people to drink.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_07: So we did have so we did have pineapple cider.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_07: But yeah, the the chicken was great.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_07: The the I had some chicken and sausage, but I didn't want to fill myself up too much because we had other uh plans later on in the in about four hours later, five hours later.
- 1:25:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_01: Here's my here's my hot take.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_01: I thought the pasta dinner was the was better than it's been in previous years.
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_01: I didn't think the chicken dinner was as good as it's been in previous years.
- 1:26:00SPEAKER_01: Now, I'm at the back of the line.
- 1:26:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_01: And it I'm not saying it was bad.
- 1:26:05SPEAKER_01: I just didn't think it was as good as it's been in prior years.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_01: I don't know if anybody else had that or not.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_06: No, I mean for me, it lived up to the hype as always, because you know, we we don't go in right away because I mean they do open up the tent at 10 a.m.
- 1:26:20SPEAKER_06: to uh to get the picnic started, but you know, I meant about six mile mark by then.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_06: But you know, at that point, we're all concerned with you know being on the fence, you know, cheering in, you know, the rest of the the Rise and Run and the customized family and the the um extra mile family uh that was there as well, too.
- 1:26:38SPEAKER_06: So but no, the the chicken for me lived up to the hype.
- 1:26:42SPEAKER_06: I wish uh you know, in our registration feed that we could get the um the recipe for the brine that they use because it's just so darn delicious.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_06: But I will say I think what my favorite part of that picnic is outside of the chicken itself, is and again, I'm gonna go back to this sense of community and support, is we had lots of friends on that course that were finishing at four plus hours.
- 1:27:14SPEAKER_06: That finish line stays up the entire time.
- 1:27:16SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and any and the and the picnic tent is close enough to the final straightaway that you can see someone make that turn.
- 1:27:24SPEAKER_06: And when somebody makes that turn, that tent erupts and applause and cheering and hooting and hollering, and no better way to cross that finish line, you know, especially if you've been out there that long by yourself to have that warm welcome from afar, I just think is the coolest thing in the world, and is one of the many things that brings me back to this race year after year.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_09: That's really cool.
- 1:27:49SPEAKER_07: There was one little issue, I think, this year with the chicken dinner.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_07: They ran out of chicken this year.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_03: Oh, wow.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_07: Yeah, not good.
- 1:27:57SPEAKER_07: Not good.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_07: I mean, it it I said.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_06: you all you figure this race sold out it's 2,000 2000 people plus remember that's 2000 people plus their family and friends right so and at the end and unfortunately for some of the people that finished at the end of the race uh the chicken the chicken was gone i mean i so they're they did have they did run out of chicken this year so greg you were just talking about community and speaking of that our rise and run community you guys had a dinner over at Hershey Park right or Hershey Hershey Farms Hershey Farms yep tell us about how that went I think it went really well uh so this is a uh a a resort and so there is a a small hotel uh there are shops and then again the the Schmorgensborg restaurant um beautifully done uh I was actually in looking at the you know places for us when we found out that Shady Maple wasn't going to happen uh found out that actually this place burned to the ground back in January of 23 and um within you know uh probably a year's time they had the whole thing rebuilt so it is a gorgeous uh complex and what's really nice and I would say an advantage uh of this place over Shady Maple is that it's within the Lancaster Burdenhand proper area so you know to get from say the picnic tent and the the expo tent to the restaurant is about a 10 minute drive whereas last year it probably took us a good 25 to 30 minutes to get out to Shady Maple.
- 1:29:37SPEAKER_06: I mean obviously still part of of Amish country but just in a much different uh location but you know walking around all of the uh the the tables with you know with all of our friends because we had 71 people for the dinner this year which as I said to Bob that's a new PR but you know everyone seemed to equally enjoy the food uh similar to uh shady maple last year and they said that you know they appreciated the fact that it was so much closer so I think this could be definitely in the running as as the lead contender for next year.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_06: Uh and I will say you know just again outside of the whole idea of community and being together I think my favorite part of the dinner was uh the table that had uh Lance and Amy and uh Lizzie and uh I know Rob was there as well too and a few others uh I think they PR'd in whoopee pies because in the uh the dessert buffet area they probably offered eight to ten different whoopie pies so what they did is they all went up and got one each made sure everyone had a different flavor and as I was like making the rounds to go chat with people they're in the midst of cutting each whoopee pie into eight equal uh pieces so that everyone could sample each whoopie pie so that way no one was getting too full and you know eat you know each eating a whoopee pie themselves uh so I just thought that was brilliant plus the shop had whoopie pie merch because earlier in the day um the Hershey Farms Resort was hosting a whoopie pie festival so hopefully that also lines up uh next year with the race but no overall it seemed everyone had a great time the food was very good it was plentiful and um yeah it everyone had a glorious time.
- 1:31:30SPEAKER_07: And I actually think this was a lot better than uh shady maple because the tables were we had multiple tables we had round tables so people got together and talked to each other.
- 1:31:44SPEAKER_07: We can walk around last year we had two large rows of I guess folding tables that just were was in a straight line.
- 1:31:53SPEAKER_07: So people at the ends you know could only talk to the people at their without getting up and moving around.
- 1:31:59SPEAKER_07: So I think that helped and I think that made a big difference in how everyone got together and seemed more of a family at this uh bank banquet than we did last year.
- 1:32:09SPEAKER_08: I liked the layout of this year's dinner better with the sort the round tables.
- 1:32:15SPEAKER_08: I felt like it was much easier to talk and go over to another table and chit-chat with people there um versus the long tables.
- 1:32:23SPEAKER_08: And I actually think I liked the food better.
- 1:32:26SPEAKER_08: I mean I'm not sure if it's because I left on such a good note because that blueberry pie or poplar was so good.
- 1:32:34SPEAKER_08: I thought I was just going to eat a few bites and I basically was licking that plate by the food was great and the the layout and the service was really good.
- 1:32:47SPEAKER_08: They were clearing the plates I think um really well.
- 1:32:51SPEAKER_10: Yeah I I have to agree with Carolyn I think I love the layout I love how open it was and just that everybody could you know like you guys said earlier walk around and talk to everyone you know this is my first I guess outing field trip with with the with the group um I just have to brag on on this whole I mean it's people call it a run family it it it is everyone was just so welcoming and nice and just coming up and introducing themselves to me which made me comfortable because my my version of putting myself out there is showing up and um so it definitely made it a lot easier to talk to people and get to know people and I met um this wonderful lady from um I think she said she was from New Jersey.
- 1:33:49SPEAKER_10: And I just I couldn't help but think like here I am in Tennessee and now I'm friends with this lady that lives in New Jersey and not just that but we're from all over and I don't know there's just something really special about that and just how we can all sit and have this common um this camaraderie I mean and it I had a blast I really enjoyed it.
- 1:34:16SPEAKER_01: Megan I was I was actually going to wrap up with a question something like that but you just nailed it and I'm not going to add anything I think as we were talking I was listening and I was thinking to myself you know if our friends who are listening who weren't there what are they going to get out of this why do we think Burden Hand is so special beautiful course great weather well there's a lot of those but you nailed what I think makes this race so special the circumstances just all work out even more than a Disney race we spend more time together here because we are together at the pasta party we are together after the party we're together at the race we're together after the race we're together for the dinner it's just a grand time with the Rise and Run family and I think you nailed it exactly perfectly it's okay Bob you can use my catchphrase here if you would like to I don't know you're going Run Disney adjacent yeah I know I know but I think it's even uh you know it's uh I it's not replacing Run Disney I'm not saying anything like that but I don't get I don't spend as much time with as many friends at a Run Disney race as I do at Burden Hand.
- 1:35:38SPEAKER_01: We have a great time together at the meetup and I look forward to those but basically we're together the whole weekend except for the time that we're spending in our room sleeping uh and I think it's just marvelous and I'm excited they they do a wonderful job everything is positive and first rate and I'm looking forward to an even bigger group next year.
- 1:36:02SPEAKER_06: I was gonna say this is like the unofficial start of our run Disney weekends I think in a way yeah that's a good way to put it also yeah I mean the to see the expansion of it I mean the number I I I don't have the official number of states that were represented but I mean we had friends as far south obviously Florida Georgia we had Texas represented uh we had representation from the West Coast out in California Washington state and then even international we had a couple of friends from Canada who's gonna be down to this uh race so it just goes to show that you know when when the the community wants to get together in the most random of places we make it happen and we have a great time doing it so there you go friends that is much as as well as we can relay it to you is why we think burden hand is so special I want to thank our friends Caroline and Megan for joining us and helping us share the story ladies you did good thanks for being with us thank you thanks for having us and now as John says that's the precursor now it's on to the Disney race season so we'll see y'all again soon.
- 1:37:21SPEAKER_01: Caution runners the topic is about to change right now well there you go friends we talked about it a lot before it happened and we talked about it a lot after it happened but I hope you uh I hope you understand and appreciate what a great weekend it was and I genuinely hope to see a lot of you next year.
- 1:37:41SPEAKER_01: Now thank you Caroline and Megan for joining us couldn't have everybody on can't go through everybody's results I did my best and I'm sure I've missed somebody in here I did my best to go through the reports that you sent us and at the end of this we're going to sound one large PR bell and you feel free Bob at RiseandrunPodcast.com if I missed yours we'll get it next week but I know that Rob set an age group and a course PR and ran sub two hours.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_01: Now Allie did Allie without a knee didn't PR but I was really excited to see Allie back.
- 1:38:27SPEAKER_01: She's had a rough time over the last few months but she's back she's doing well I saw her at the beginning of the event and didn't see her again until afterwards because she ran away from me.
- 1:38:40SPEAKER_01: We mentioned of course that John, Megan Greg and Caroline all PR'd Caroline's was a course PR our friend Jack from New Jersey he finished third place in his age group that's impressive Lizzie PR'd Shamika I got a chance to meet Shemika a couple times on the course she's a new Ryzen runner we're glad to have you in the family Shemika she PR'd Yvette said a course PR Steve an age group PR Brian a nine minute PR Lessa an eight minute PR and while not a PR Margaret's 5K costume cannot go without me Bravo Margaret Alicia Jack Margaret okay yeah yeah yeah she was the bird in hand for the 5K and then she had a for the for the half she wore a skirt that was a bush a uh shrubbery type bush and she had two birds in there so she had a bird in hand which is of course worth two in the bush good stuff she always has the best costumes that's why she's been part of the console of costumes yes indeed absolutely I want to share a story that occurred at the end of the um of the uh the meal at Hershey farm our friend Tara from Canada was there Tara's a talented artist she's done some stuff for us before out of the kindness of her heart and she had created a couple of paintings and I know uh Greg got one and and Jack got one and I got one and I was sitting at the table and she came over and she gave it to me and I commented oh thank you I I still have the one you gave us at I don't know if it was our first meetup but it was a very very early meetup.
- 1:40:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah yeah and uh I said it's great and she goes this isn't like that so okay so she wrapped it in a gift wrap and I I opened it up and I kind of I opened it to the back and she had written on the back to Lily and she had this lovely long inscription about the stories I've told you guys before about how Lily's responsible really for this podcast and getting me back into running and all that and it was lovely and very touching and I'm looking at it I'm reading it she goes turn it over and I said no give me a minute I want to read this and when I turned it over she had painted a painting of my little dog that just well there wasn't a dry eye in the house it was it's so lovely she did such a wonderful job as soon as I turned it over it's not that she had created a painting of a little dog she created a painting of Lily that was that is Lily the expression on her face she's looking up she was all she's always looking up when she's around me so uh Tara what I wanted you to know and I tried as hard as I could to express how much it meant to me uh what I wanted you to know that I loved it and while it brought tears to my eyes uh on Saturday afternoon it brings a great big smile to my face now every time I look at it it's fantastic uh friends I'll put a picture on Facebook so you can see what I'm talking about so Tara thank you so much yeah thank you so much for your your generosity um you know the the paintings that you gifted John and I were you know rise and run spelled out in characters that mean a lot to us so you know John yours was Star Wars right Star Wars characters oh neat had had Bubba Fett in it there you go I'm sorry I didn't see that that's great and uh and mine was all characters from the goofy movie and and when she was ex you know explaining you know the the painting you know I mean again like you Bob I knew exactly because you know she had done one of these you know for us you know for all of us before but you know that you know like she admitted to me like she had never watched a goofy movie before so it's like she wasn't like exactly sure like what she was painting but the fact that like she took the time to you know research all of that you know and then figure out the best way to represent her through artwork and then very similar got a very nice message on the back you know and she's incorporating like the songs from the movie and relating it to Rise and Run in the podcast community.
- 1:43:46SPEAKER_06: It was just so special.
- 1:43:47SPEAKER_06: And you know Tara I told you this at um at Hershey Farm but you know you'll always have a special place in my heart because you are the first person I ever talked to at the first ever Rise and Run meetup and I'm so glad that we have that bond and um I'm just you know so glad that you know have this piece of artwork to uh you know to commemorate that friendship.
- 1:44:06SPEAKER_06: So thank you again.
- 1:44:07SPEAKER_01: All right well look as much fun as we had at Bird in hand again I want to encourage friends if you've got a race in your area that you think you want to get a lot of rise and runners to let me know and I'll mention it.
- 1:44:19SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go down the list here.
- 1:44:20SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna mention all of them every week uh if they're getting close or if they're new to the list I'll mention them as for example uh the miles to go 5K in Orlando is this weekend it's probably too late to use your rise and run discount code but it is the 19th which is Saturday I would expect they'll take walk-up reservations that's the miles to go 5K in Orlando for the miles to go charity uh the margaritavel run 5k 10k half coming up in the Orlando area they're going to be Galloway Pacers there Mark will be there uh Adam will be there and Jack will be there that is the following weekend but that's a that's uh still out there uh the rise and run 5k in Kissimmee we got more team runners there let's go uh uh yeah Jack got into that one let's go down frosty looper frosty looper is not until the 13th of December registration's open for that one uh looking down here this is a a new lister if you're in the Tampa St.
- 1:45:32SPEAKER_01: Pete area the Skyway Bridge run is returning it's been gone for a couple years it's been virtual for a while it's a silly race to have virtual uh but it is coming back live it's now called the Sun Sky 10K registration opens October 5th at midnight they're only going to allow 8000 runners that's gonna sell out fast uh the race is March 21st of next year but that registration is October 5th I'll remind you that again I got to think hard about this one it's it's been a great event in the past not necessarily one like we just talked about where we're gonna get a lot of camaraderie because you're gonna run from one end to the other and that's gonna be it uh but for a 10k they're charging a hundred bucks now that's pretty steep it is unique it is great running across that bridge I just want our friends in this area to know about that.
- 1:46:30SPEAKER_01: Our friends out in Oregon on the West Coast are talking about the Eugene Marathon weekend registration for that is now open that race is April 23rd of next year.
- 1:46:42SPEAKER_01: So if you got a race coming up let us know we will try to publicize it for you and see if we can get some more friends there.
- 1:46:50SPEAKER_01: Let's see we got a Zoom today it's Zoom Thursday golly I don't know what we'll talk about I think we'll probably recap we'll probably recap Burden had a little bit more and put it to bed.
- 1:47:06SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about the upcoming races and we're getting muddy daggum close we talked let's say we said five weeks until Wine weekend that means I think if the numbers work out right I think we got three uh zoom calls between now and then the on the 1st of October at three o'clock in the afternoon that's a Wednesday on Zoom the idea again there is for our friends in Europe let's see how that goes that would be the last I'm calling them EuroZooms that would be the last euro zoom before wine and dine and now please stand clear of the door it's time for a race report and pin can see a little the race report is sponsored by our friend Thomas Stokes Stokes metabolic training Stokes dot fit slash rise and run coaching Tom's finish strong challenge kicked off this week I'm happy to be a part of that I'm gonna do my best work hard try and lose some pounds see if Tom can help me drop some weight here between now and the start of the race season.
- 1:48:25SPEAKER_07: Just started it yesterday and I did the first work yesterday.
- 1:48:28SPEAKER_01: So you're perfect Sean you've I'm perfect I'm perfect right now yeah so far okay got it can't miss the first one let's take a look at the races we had a weekend event the Daytona Triple Dare Challenge in Daytona Florida it's a 10K Saturday morning a 5K Saturday evening and then a 15K Sunday morning Jared did it and said it was fun.
- 1:48:49SPEAKER_01: All the courses went on and around the Daytona International Speedway fun getting the run on the track not a huge crowd so it was enjoyable he knocked all three of them out way to go Jared on Friday in the Netherlands the finance run in Amsterdam Danny did that he did the half marathon there was a Turtle crawl 5K in Melbourne Florida on Saturday Lucy was there as was Valerie Valerie says it's still summer in Florida Valerie it's still summer everywhere in the northern hemisphere even though it's cooling off some places but I know what she means it's still plenty warm here.
- 1:49:32SPEAKER_01: She's done this race before loves that she's supporting sea turtle preservation.
- 1:49:37SPEAKER_01: What was cool about this race was uh the Brevard Zoo the local zoo had a green sea turtle that they'd been rehabbing and they released it back to the ocean right after the race really neat but Valerie decided to go to breakfast instead of sticking around and watching it ah glad you enjoyed it though Valerie beat the blurch ran in Incarnation Washington.
- 1:50:01SPEAKER_01: It's sold out.
- 1:50:02SPEAKER_01: Hera thinks it's because it was Jimothy themed.
- 1:50:06SPEAKER_01: I think Jimothy's one of the characters in that cartoon series.
- 1:50:10SPEAKER_01: Jimothy was on the metal.
- 1:50:12SPEAKER_01: I think it's because we promoted it on the podcast here a couple of times.
- 1:50:16SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:50:18SPEAKER_01: That's my story, and you can't prove me wrong.
- 1:50:22SPEAKER_01: Hera did the half marathon.
- 1:50:24SPEAKER_01: Says things always super well organized.
- 1:50:26SPEAKER_01: They have lots of cake and donuts and Nutella sandwiches.
- 1:50:32SPEAKER_01: Jack, your opinion on Nutella sandwiches?
- 1:50:35SPEAKER_04: I've never had Nutella.
- 1:50:36SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's not a shocker.
- 1:50:39SPEAKER_01: That's not a shocker.
- 1:50:40SPEAKER_04: Make a judgment, I'm sorry.
- 1:50:41SPEAKER_01: No, I mean I've I I like it.
- 1:50:44SPEAKER_01: But it's hazelnut, it's hazelnut, it's hazelnut.
- 1:50:47SPEAKER_01: It's not like peanut butter.
- 1:50:48SPEAKER_01: It's not as ubiquitous as peanut butter, so I think there are a handful of, you know, I think it's not that crazy to say you've never had it.
- 1:50:54SPEAKER_01: It's it's hazelnut chocolate, basically.
- 1:50:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it sounds better.
- 1:50:58SPEAKER_01: I find it tasty on I don't we don't have any in the house or anything, but it's not bad.
- 1:51:03SPEAKER_01: Uh let's see.
- 1:51:04SPEAKER_01: She kept up with her intervals that she'd been training.
- 1:51:07SPEAKER_01: She pushed herself hard, got her second best time and second place in her age group.
- 1:51:12SPEAKER_01: That's really great.
- 1:51:14SPEAKER_01: Uh Stephanie was there for the 10K.
- 1:51:16SPEAKER_01: Lace was there also.
- 1:51:17SPEAKER_01: Hira says that Lace killed it in the 10K.
- 1:51:24SPEAKER_01: In Destin, Florida, they held the Travis Mannion Foundation 911 Heroes Run 5K.
- 1:51:32SPEAKER_01: Katie and Hunter did their first event backstayside since coming back from Okinawa.
- 1:51:38SPEAKER_01: Over in the UK, Newcastle upon Tyne.
- 1:51:42SPEAKER_01: Got a couple of events here.
- 1:51:43SPEAKER_01: Two of them on Saturday, the AJ Bell mini great north run 1.2 kilometer race.
- 1:51:50SPEAKER_01: Lucas did that with his dad Andy.
- 1:51:55SPEAKER_01: First ever race for three-year-old Lucas, a little overwhelmed at first, but finished strong and PR'd.
- 1:52:05SPEAKER_01: Now they follow that up with the Great North Run Junior race, a 4K run.
- 1:52:12SPEAKER_01: Lena did this one with Andy.
- 1:52:15SPEAKER_01: Lena's longest running event yet.
- 1:52:18SPEAKER_01: Her first junior great north run.
- 1:52:21SPEAKER_01: She's now nine years old.
- 1:52:23SPEAKER_01: So she ran the 4K for the first time and crushed it and PR'd.
- 1:52:30SPEAKER_01: Way to go.
- 1:52:33SPEAKER_01: Laura did the Run Mag Mile in Chicago.
- 1:52:37SPEAKER_01: Gosh, I don't have a report here.
- 1:52:38SPEAKER_01: I don't think I saw one.
- 1:52:40SPEAKER_01: I hope I didn't just plain miss it, Laura.
- 1:52:43SPEAKER_01: Uh Jimmy, I know I didn't miss this one.
- 1:52:45SPEAKER_01: He did the Cotton Candy Classic 5K in Knoxville.
- 1:52:49SPEAKER_01: And I know I didn't miss it because he was wearing his pink wig.
- 1:52:54SPEAKER_01: He had to bring it out for this one because he was a sweeper for the course.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_01: So everybody knew who he was.
- 1:53:00SPEAKER_01: Jimmy, I think everybody knows who you are anyway in those Tennessee races.
- 1:53:04SPEAKER_01: You're a local.
- 1:53:05SPEAKER_01: I think you're a local celebrity there.
- 1:53:07SPEAKER_01: Uh perk of being the sweeper is you could take your time and play as you went through the Tennessee Valley Fair.
- 1:53:13SPEAKER_01: No medal.
- 1:53:14SPEAKER_01: Definitely a PR in fun.
- 1:53:17SPEAKER_01: Over in Orlando, they have a series of 5Ks they call Cool Summer Mornings.
- 1:53:24SPEAKER_01: S-O-M-M-E-R.
- 1:53:27SPEAKER_01: They had number four and the last race in the series this week.
- 1:53:33SPEAKER_01: Mary Joe ran it.
- 1:53:34SPEAKER_01: So the weather was kind of decent.
- 1:53:35SPEAKER_01: She took it relatively easily on her intervals.
- 1:53:40SPEAKER_01: And yet it was her fastest 5K of the series.
- 1:53:43SPEAKER_01: Actually, with each event, her face pace got a little better.
- 1:53:47SPEAKER_01: Get a bonus medal for doing all four.
- 1:53:50SPEAKER_01: She loves it.
- 1:53:51SPEAKER_01: Heather rolled through this one.
- 1:53:53SPEAKER_01: Her dad Stuart ran it.
- 1:53:54SPEAKER_01: Stuart, another PR.
- 1:53:57SPEAKER_01: Podium finishes for both Heather and Stuart.
- 1:54:00SPEAKER_01: They have different themes for each of these races.
- 1:54:03SPEAKER_01: They're pretty cool.
- 1:54:04SPEAKER_01: This one was Kraken themed.
- 1:54:07SPEAKER_01: So Heather got to reuse one of her favorite Disney costumes.
- 1:54:12SPEAKER_01: In Canada, Sarah did the Toronto Zoo run, had a great time, wonderful weather, followed by a fun day at the zoo.
- 1:54:21SPEAKER_01: Lots of spectators, lots of fun signs for this enjoyable race.
- 1:54:27SPEAKER_01: Pretty sure this next one's on Saturday.
- 1:54:29SPEAKER_01: I know it was in Hollywood Beach, Florida.
- 1:54:31SPEAKER_01: Ravi ran the Fire Hero 5K, his first run in over three weeks after being away on vacation.
- 1:54:37SPEAKER_01: Nice flat course along the beach in Hollywood.
- 1:54:40SPEAKER_01: Not a bad place to run.
- 1:54:42SPEAKER_01: Up in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Alicia.
- 1:54:46SPEAKER_01: Alicia.
- 1:54:47SPEAKER_01: Well, Alicia, what race did you do?
- 1:54:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I did the Bear Water Right.
- 1:54:53SPEAKER_09: They do a 10-mile course and then a 20-mile course.
- 1:54:57SPEAKER_09: And it goes around Wiper Lake, which is a very pretty lake.
- 1:55:01SPEAKER_09: There's some rolling hills, which I've done this race before.
- 1:55:05SPEAKER_09: I've done it two or three times before.
- 1:55:08SPEAKER_09: So I was prepared for these hills.
- 1:55:11SPEAKER_09: And I did the 10-mile course.
- 1:55:14SPEAKER_09: And my thought process going into it was my A goal was to get a proof of time.
- 1:55:21SPEAKER_09: My B goal was to get a PR.
- 1:55:24SPEAKER_09: And my C goal was just to finish.
- 1:55:26SPEAKER_09: And I went, okay, I know where these hills are.
- 1:55:30SPEAKER_09: I'm going to run quickly the first two miles, get to the hills, walk up the hills, make the time on the downhill.
- 1:55:41SPEAKER_09: And I was able to do that.
- 1:55:44SPEAKER_09: And I not only hit my A goal, I hit my B goal and my C goal.
- 1:55:49SPEAKER_09: So I got congratulations.
- 1:55:54SPEAKER_09: I got over a six-minute PR.
- 1:55:57SPEAKER_09: And I was able to get a half marathon proof of time, which is a big deal in itself, but I have piriformis syndrome, and that's been kind of bugging me.
- 1:56:09SPEAKER_09: So I really didn't know going into it how the race would go, but I managed to get this one and get that proof of time in PR.
- 1:56:18SPEAKER_09: So I'm very proud of myself.
- 1:56:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I just posted a picture to these guys, and I wasn't just like one foot off the ground.
- 1:56:28SPEAKER_09: I was literally like floating off the ground in my finish line picture.
- 1:56:33SPEAKER_09: So I was definitely pushing it, but yeah, it went really well.
- 1:56:36SPEAKER_01: Good for you.
- 1:56:37SPEAKER_01: Alicia, you know, um I I've I've run almost 80 Disney runs on all the photo pass people.
- 1:56:44SPEAKER_01: I'm convinced I never get both feet off the ground.
- 1:56:48SPEAKER_01: Because I've never, never had a photo with both feet on the ground.
- 1:56:53SPEAKER_01: So so good for you.
- 1:56:54SPEAKER_03: That's your next goal.
- 1:56:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I even tried one time.
- 1:57:00SPEAKER_01: But I think I'm glued to the ground.
- 1:57:03SPEAKER_01: Well, let's go to Sunday then and go back to Newcastle upon Tyne.
- 1:57:08SPEAKER_01: The AJ Bell Great North Run half marathon was on Sunday.
- 1:57:13SPEAKER_01: Andy and Jamie were there, uh, as was Rachel.
- 1:57:17SPEAKER_01: This was the 14th time Andy ran it.
- 1:57:21SPEAKER_01: He's got a goal of finishing this thing in under two hours, which will have to wait until his 15th attempt.
- 1:57:29SPEAKER_01: The heat made this one tough.
- 1:57:31SPEAKER_01: Warm in England.
- 1:57:32SPEAKER_01: You know, you know the old if it's hot where you are, it's hot.
- 1:57:35SPEAKER_01: It's all a matter of what you're acclimated to and what you're accustomed to.
- 1:57:39SPEAKER_01: So I don't know exactly how hot it was, but it was hot enough to make a difference.
- 1:57:43SPEAKER_01: Uh that a lot of folks had serious difficulties on the course.
- 1:57:48SPEAKER_01: So Andy'll be back, I'm sure.
- 1:57:50SPEAKER_01: Uh I saw Jamie was there, as was Rachel.
- 1:57:54SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 1:57:56SPEAKER_01: In New York City.
- 1:57:59SPEAKER_01: They ran the New Balance 5th Annual.
- 1:58:02SPEAKER_01: No, I'm sorry, the New Balance Fifth Avenue mile.
- 1:58:07SPEAKER_01: This is a straight shot one mile course.
- 1:58:09SPEAKER_01: I remember when they started this, this goes back to like I think it goes back to the 60s.
- 1:58:14SPEAKER_01: Does that sound right, John?
- 1:58:16SPEAKER_01: Uh I I would guess I was just a little kid.
- 1:58:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I I remember, you know, I remember it on.
- 1:58:22SPEAKER_01: This is you guys won't know this is the wide world of sports.
- 1:58:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:58:27SPEAKER_01: How would Coast sell?
- 1:58:29SPEAKER_01: Sometimes, but Jim McKay was the announcer for the wide.
- 1:58:32SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Co sell would be on sometimes.
- 1:58:34SPEAKER_07: Jim McKay was the announcer for the drill of victory and the agony of defeat.
- 1:58:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that fellow would fall off the ski jump for the time.
- 1:58:42SPEAKER_07: Every time he did it.
- 1:58:43SPEAKER_01: That was a good trivia question.
- 1:58:44SPEAKER_01: I do not know his name.
- 1:58:46SPEAKER_01: But one of the things about it was because it's a straight shot and there are no turns, it was always uh an incredibly fast time.
- 1:58:55SPEAKER_01: But we had some friends do it.
- 1:58:57SPEAKER_01: Divya did it.
- 1:58:58SPEAKER_01: She woke up at 1.30 in the morning, left her house at 2.30 to drive to New York.
- 1:59:02SPEAKER_01: She waits for an hour and then runs for less than nine minutes.
- 1:59:06SPEAKER_01: But uh it was wet.
- 1:59:09SPEAKER_01: We had that storm that came through the northeast, and it was it was very wet up there in New York.
- 1:59:15SPEAKER_01: John, you were no, you were in uh Burton.
- 1:59:19SPEAKER_07: I got we got a little bit of the storm, like drizzle coming back from Burning Ham, but when I came home, I saw the aftermath of the storm.
- 1:59:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we saw that race.
- 1:59:29SPEAKER_01: We saw Robert posted photos of the not photos, but videos, in fact, of the race in Paramis, New Jersey.
- 1:59:35SPEAKER_01: Yes, the one in Paramus.
- 1:59:37SPEAKER_01: Folks were you know virtually swimming through there?
- 1:59:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, pretty much.
- 1:59:41SPEAKER_07: It was uh it runs across a it runs parallel to a river, the whole course, most of the course.
- 1:59:48SPEAKER_07: So uh and I guess they decided to it was a good idea to run that race in and in flood flood warning.
- 1:59:56SPEAKER_06: By the way, if there was anyone in the rise of run community who ran this race, please email us thegang at rise of runpodcast.com.
- 2:00:05SPEAKER_06: We think it would make for an incredible spotlight.
- 2:00:08SPEAKER_01: Well, I think Greg wants to run it next year, is the thing.
- 2:00:12SPEAKER_07: He's gonna well actually actually, I don't think they're gonna have it next year because I think the race director is now on probation for a year from running getting any permits for that park area in Bergen County.
- 2:00:26SPEAKER_01: Well, anyway, back to the one in New York City that Div Iran said, despite it being wet and slippery, it was great.
- 2:00:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, our buddy Jake was there too.
- 2:00:34SPEAKER_01: Uh said they send off different cohorts of age groups every 10 minutes.
- 2:00:39SPEAKER_01: His age group was one of the first of the day.
- 2:00:43SPEAKER_01: Now he ran a 704, which is a one-mile race PR for Jake.
- 2:00:51SPEAKER_01: Congratulations on that.
- 2:00:53SPEAKER_01: Now, he tells me he doesn't run a lot of one-mile races, but still 704 is a rock solid time.
- 2:00:58SPEAKER_01: Uh, back home in Boston by noon.
- 2:01:02SPEAKER_01: He leaves a race, he flies out of New York, he's back in Boston by noon.
- 2:01:07SPEAKER_01: Up in Deerfield, Massachusetts, they ran the Treehouse Brewing half marathon.
- 2:01:11SPEAKER_01: Christina and Lindsay ran it.
- 2:01:14SPEAKER_01: There was a wicked fast half marathon in the Poconos in Lehighten, to be exact, about 80 miles north of Burden Hand, running through the Lehigh Gorge State Park.
- 2:01:26SPEAKER_01: Ryan did it.
- 2:01:28SPEAKER_01: Wicked Fast.
- 2:01:29SPEAKER_01: Ryan says the race lives up to its name.
- 2:01:32SPEAKER_01: Now, around mile two, the skies opened up for that rainstorm we were just talking about.
- 2:01:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, mid-calf to ankle deep for multiple miles.
- 2:01:43SPEAKER_01: Now, towards the end, he saw cones, but his Garmin was at 13.4, and he still didn't have the finish line in sight.
- 2:01:52SPEAKER_01: Finally crossed it at nearly 14 miles.
- 2:01:55SPEAKER_01: That's always aggravating when you think it's time and you still got a ways to go.
- 2:02:01SPEAKER_01: Nonetheless, knocked it out.
- 2:02:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is half number 60 in state number 16.
- 2:02:09SPEAKER_01: Nikki was there.
- 2:02:10SPEAKER_01: Nikki ran the marathon and set a 22-minute PR with a time of five hours and 38 minutes.
- 2:02:20SPEAKER_01: In the northern Kentucky and Cincinnati area, they had a tunnel to towers 5K.
- 2:02:27SPEAKER_01: Carol did it, no matter the weather, the family and she show their thanks to all the first responders, and this race is just one part of that.
- 2:02:37SPEAKER_01: Carol says we must teach the next generations to never forget.
- 2:02:44SPEAKER_01: And Carol, thank you for that.
- 2:02:47SPEAKER_01: I know that I know that race was important to you.
- 2:02:49SPEAKER_01: I know it's important to your family.
- 2:02:52SPEAKER_01: Let's try this one the Crowell Halakka Trail Half Marathon in Richfield, Ohio.
- 2:03:00SPEAKER_01: Laurie ran it.
- 2:03:01SPEAKER_01: Technical trails, some gravel road portions, six-mile loop.
- 2:03:06SPEAKER_01: You run it twice.
- 2:03:07SPEAKER_01: Now, this is cool.
- 2:03:09SPEAKER_01: When you finish the second loop, you go back down a hill to grab a piece of candy and bring it up the hill just to prove that you finished the distance.
- 2:03:18SPEAKER_01: I don't know what happens if you eat the candy on the way.
- 2:03:21SPEAKER_01: Uh the hill was a half mile long each way, so you had a half-mile climb at the finish with candy.
- 2:03:30SPEAKER_01: The East River Run 10K occurred in Portsmouth, Virginia.
- 2:03:34SPEAKER_01: Samantha was there hot and humid.
- 2:03:36SPEAKER_01: She didn't want to do it, but she's determined to show her son that we don't make excuses or give up when it gets tough.
- 2:03:45SPEAKER_01: Not the time she wanted, but you know, for the conditions, she did just fine.
- 2:03:52SPEAKER_01: Now our friend Caitlin made a post, and Caitlin's post said, I finished my second half marathon and did it with a 20-minute PR.
- 2:04:00SPEAKER_01: Congratulations.
- 2:04:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know where it was.
- 2:04:03SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 2:04:03SPEAKER_01: I don't even sure.
- 2:04:04SPEAKER_01: I put it on Sunday.
- 2:04:05SPEAKER_01: I'm not even sure what day it was.
- 2:04:07SPEAKER_01: But Caitlin, by golly, you got the PR bell.
- 2:04:12SPEAKER_01: The Aloha run was in San Diego.
- 2:04:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, apparently it was.
- 2:04:17SPEAKER_01: Morgan did it.
- 2:04:18SPEAKER_01: This is her first race report.
- 2:04:19SPEAKER_01: Said this is a well-run event.
- 2:04:21SPEAKER_01: Easy to park.
- 2:04:22SPEAKER_01: You can get dropped off right before race start.
- 2:04:24SPEAKER_01: Fun entertainment.
- 2:04:26SPEAKER_01: And a 10K PR.
- 2:04:31SPEAKER_01: Way to go, Morgan.
- 2:04:34SPEAKER_01: Another 9-11 Heroes run in Destin, Florida.
- 2:04:38SPEAKER_01: I'm almost positive.
- 2:04:40SPEAKER_01: Katie did it.
- 2:04:40SPEAKER_01: The whole family ran it.
- 2:04:42SPEAKER_01: Her husband Richard ran with his backpack, pushing two and a half-year-old Teddy in a stroller.
- 2:04:49SPEAKER_01: Katie and 10-year-old Hunter ran the 5K.
- 2:04:53SPEAKER_01: Hunter took off at mile one mark, and Katie never caught him.
- 2:04:57SPEAKER_01: He ran a 10-minute PR.
- 2:05:00SPEAKER_01: Finished third in his age group.
- 2:05:03SPEAKER_01: In New Albany, Ohio, the Albany Walking Classic 10K.
- 2:05:09SPEAKER_01: Christine and Julie were there.
- 2:05:12SPEAKER_01: Julie did this one.
- 2:05:14SPEAKER_01: Julie was going to go to Burden Hand, but her husband Rich lost his father over the weekend.
- 2:05:19SPEAKER_01: And we're sorry, Rich.
- 2:05:21SPEAKER_01: All the Rise and Run family.
- 2:05:24SPEAKER_01: You know, you ran our thoughts and prayers.
- 2:05:26SPEAKER_01: Sorry you couldn't make it.
- 2:05:27SPEAKER_01: Julie, glad you were able to do something this weekend.
- 2:05:30SPEAKER_01: This was a nice, flat, nice, flat course that went through some lovely neighborhoods.
- 2:05:35SPEAKER_01: They got pizza and ice cream at the end.
- 2:05:38SPEAKER_01: I hope separately, not one on top of the other.
- 2:05:41SPEAKER_01: But you know, whatever.
- 2:05:42SPEAKER_01: To each his own.
- 2:05:44SPEAKER_01: They even had a character stop with Brutus Buckeye, which is making a segment of our listening audience very happy.
- 2:05:52SPEAKER_01: And a bunch of them are going boo.
- 2:05:55SPEAKER_01: So that's hey, that's the way it is with college sports.
- 2:05:58SPEAKER_01: They're rivalries, so you're either pro or con.
- 2:06:01SPEAKER_01: And there we go, friends.
- 2:06:02SPEAKER_01: There it is.
- 2:06:03SPEAKER_01: That's the race report for episode 260 of the Rise and Run podcast.
- 2:06:06SPEAKER_01: Hope you enjoyed it.
- 2:06:08SPEAKER_01: Hope you enjoyed the recap of Bird and Hand.
- 2:06:09SPEAKER_01: Hope you were there.
- 2:06:10SPEAKER_01: Had a great time.
- 2:06:12SPEAKER_01: It was wonderful, just absolutely wonderful seeing everybody.
- 2:06:16SPEAKER_01: Again, that's what we loved most about it.
- 2:06:17SPEAKER_01: We got more time with our friends.
- 2:06:20SPEAKER_01: And if you run, you know you are our friend.
- 2:06:23SPEAKER_01: We got more time with our friends this weekend than we do on a typical race weekend.
- 2:06:27SPEAKER_01: Keep up the training.
- 2:06:29SPEAKER_01: You're doing great.
- 2:06:31SPEAKER_01: Consistency is the key, and you can do it.
- 2:06:35SPEAKER_01: Happy running.
- 2:06:45SPEAKER_05: The Rise and Run podcast discusses little information about running Disney.
- 2:06:49SPEAKER_05: And it's in no way affiliated with Running Disney.
