- 1:20Speaker 7: Right off the top, I want to remind you of
- 1:22Speaker 7: the fly Fishing round Up coming up this weekend out
- 1:31Speaker 7: at Milken Reserve. It's in conjunction with Pumpkin Palooza. There
- 1:37Speaker 7: are a lot of different kinds of tickets that you
- 1:42Speaker 7: can buy, and look, I'm just gonna I think the
- 1:48Speaker 7: best website to remember is goodfly dot org. If you'll
- 1:51Speaker 7: just go to goodfly dot org, it'll take you to
- 1:56Speaker 7: the roundup tickets to the fly fishing, casting skills assessment testing.
- 2:02Speaker 7: There's an online option. There's an all in evening experience
- 2:08Speaker 7: for the ticket. So there's a lot of stuff going on.
- 2:15Speaker 7: Casting Cup hosted by Rio Anglers. There's a lot going
- 2:20Speaker 7: on at Millken Reserve this weekend on Saturday. Okay, so
- 2:28Speaker 7: hey go to all of it, go to a portion
- 2:30Speaker 7: of it, bid online with the proceeds going to Good Fly.
- 2:36Speaker 7: If you've been around us, you understand what that is.
- 2:40Speaker 7: They do great work with first responders. This has become
- 2:46Speaker 7: an annual event. It's a pretty cool thing. If you've
- 2:50Speaker 7: never picked up a fly rod, they will teach you.
- 2:54Speaker 7: If you consider yourself an expert, they will probably let
- 2:59Speaker 7: you know that you're not. Nah, they'll be they'll be
- 3:02Speaker 7: patient about it. But that's Saturday. Okay, out of Milican Reserve.
- 3:07Speaker 7: Go to goodfly dot org and then proceed from there. Okay,
- 3:13Speaker 7: goodfly dot Org. I was checking this because I don't
- 3:19Speaker 7: do this anymore. It stuck hunting South Zone against November one,
- 3:23Speaker 7: North Zone November eighth. Early optimism is fading because of
- 3:29Speaker 7: the drought. We had good rain this summer. Lots of
- 3:35Speaker 7: heat birds will be concentrated in areas where active management
- 3:41Speaker 7: has maintained fresh habitat uh the program. Waterfowl program leader
- 3:48Speaker 7: Kevin Krye from Texas Parks and Wildlife says hunters who
- 3:51Speaker 7: scout actively and find fresh shallow water will have the
- 3:56Speaker 7: best opportunities, and we'll probably we'll talk more about that
- 4:02Speaker 7: coming up. Let me mention that Tuesday. Dan Beck author
- 4:09Speaker 7: on Michael Jackson. He was Michael Jackson's contact at Epic
- 4:15Speaker 7: Records for five years. He has stories about the Kingdom
- 4:18Speaker 7: pop as you would imagine, most of them good, but
- 4:24Speaker 7: dan Beck will join us on the program on Tuesday.
- 4:31Speaker 7: It was brought to my attention last night that one
- 4:37Speaker 7: of our favorite outdoor people has passed away, Cajun Phil Broussard.
- 4:43Speaker 7: He and his son Kevin host Cajun Paradise Lodge down
- 4:49Speaker 7: in Hackberry. He and Kevin were the most successful redfish
- 4:55Speaker 7: tournament fishermen ever. These guys know what they're doing. Cajun
- 5:01Speaker 7: Phil was a character and in some cases a caricature
- 5:07Speaker 7: of everything you would think about a swamp outdoorsman in Louisiana.
- 5:12Speaker 7: He was it. We're going to hear from him an
- 5:15Speaker 7: interview I did three years ago when we were down
- 5:18Speaker 7: at the lodge. I'm going to play that later on
- 5:23Speaker 7: in this hour for you, and I tell you he
- 5:30Speaker 7: he was just a character, and he and Kevin had
- 5:34Speaker 7: a great relationship. It was always fun to see them
- 5:37Speaker 7: together and how Kevin treated his father. And they built
- 5:43Speaker 7: this business, I mean to a unbelievable business, and it
- 5:48Speaker 7: got wiped out twice by hurricanes and they rebuilt it
- 5:53Speaker 7: and they're going strong. And I texted a little bit
- 5:57Speaker 7: with Kevin today after I found out about Phil, that
- 6:01Speaker 7: you will you will remember him when when I play
- 6:05Speaker 7: the interview you probably already do. If you met him,
- 6:08Speaker 7: you would never forget him. So we will do a
- 6:14Speaker 7: little tribute to Cajun Phil in the back half of
- 6:18Speaker 7: this hour coming up. So we got that going on
- 6:21Speaker 7: for us, which is nice. Let's see, I'm not going
- 6:27Speaker 7: to do that one right now. I'm not sure, all right,
- 6:34Speaker 7: hate these things, and there's more and more of these
- 6:38Speaker 7: things coming up too. You know, four dogs attacked and
- 6:45Speaker 7: killed a Florida woman after she fell unconscious during a
- 6:49Speaker 7: medical emergency. Offers officers responded to a Daytona Beach area
- 6:56Speaker 7: home last Friday evening. The victim's boyfriend stated that he
- 7:01Speaker 7: had gone to the residence after being unable to reach
- 7:04Speaker 7: his girlfriend by phone. Upon entering, he located her unresponsive
- 7:10Speaker 7: on the floors and immediately contacted emergency services. And this
- 7:16Speaker 7: is just becoming more and more common in all areas,
- 7:21Speaker 7: not just rural areas, that dogs are running loose.
- 7:27Speaker 6: Now.
- 7:29Speaker 7: I have seen owners prosecuted if they can't keep their dog,
- 7:34Speaker 7: you know, contained, which they should be. I have seen
- 7:39Speaker 7: dogs put down, which they should be. But if you
- 7:45Speaker 7: have dogs, people come on, use a little common sense. Oh,
- 7:49Speaker 7: they wouldn't hurt anybody. It's like wild animals. When you
- 7:54Speaker 7: hear these stories like, oh, this never happens while we're
- 7:57Speaker 7: talking about it, and obviously happened, didn't it. I mean,
- 8:05Speaker 7: and there's this in North Carolina. A puppy survived an
- 8:10Speaker 7: animal attack and now needs a new home. Pluto had
- 8:15Speaker 7: surgery to remove his injured eye and his healing hey
- 8:19Speaker 7: like Revelly. As of October tenth, he was listed among
- 8:23Speaker 7: the animals available for adoption. Even through all that, I'm
- 8:30Speaker 7: a super sweet boy, says the shelter. While the doctor's
- 8:34Speaker 7: examined me, I never stopped giving kisses and wagging my tail.
- 8:40Speaker 7: It doesn't say what kind of animal attacked Pluto, and
- 8:47Speaker 7: I realized there are all kinds of dog owners, somewhat
- 8:54Speaker 7: the little tail wagging lap dogs, somewhat a dog that,
- 9:01Speaker 7: if needed, can protect them. So, but there's lots of
- 9:09Speaker 7: animals in our area too, right, I mean, it's not
- 9:13Speaker 7: just Florida where alligators are eating dogs, when people are
- 9:15Speaker 7: walking dogs. It it can happen around here. There are
- 9:20Speaker 7: animals that will carry off dogs, right. There are bobcats around,
- 9:27Speaker 7: of course, There are coyotes around, of course. So those
- 9:34Speaker 7: of you keep animals, I hope know all of this.
- 9:36Speaker 7: I'm just saying that if you have dogs, keep them
- 9:47Speaker 7: know where they are, Okay, because this stuff is coming
- 9:50Speaker 7: becoming to me much much too commonplace as far as
- 9:56Speaker 7: I'm concerned. All Right, we're going to go back in
- 10:01Speaker 7: time right now. Uh oh, let's do this first. Let's
- 10:07Speaker 7: do this first. Our animal attack segments are brought to
- 10:11Speaker 7: you each week by Shilty Roofing, Home of the Bulletproof
- 10:15Speaker 7: Roof Guarantee.
- 10:17Speaker 8: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 10:19Speaker 8: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 10:21Speaker 8: I found Shorlty Roofing and point I'm glad I did.
- 10:24Speaker 8: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 10:27Speaker 8: They showed me my options. They told me what my
- 10:29Speaker 8: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 10:32Speaker 8: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation.
- 10:35Speaker 7: They took off the.
- 10:36Speaker 8: Damage roof, put on the new roof, did all the cleanup,
- 10:39Speaker 8: and I had my new roof in one day.
- 10:43Speaker 7: The Home by the Bullet Roof. Okay, as I said
- 10:48Speaker 7: before the break, we are going to hear an interview
- 10:53Speaker 7: that I did. It's been probably five years. It's very
- 10:58Speaker 7: interesting to me. Brian Irwin. It's a physician, but a
- 11:02Speaker 7: passionate fly fisherman that had been to the Bahamas many times.
- 11:08Speaker 7: He happens to be a pilot. And if you'll recall,
- 11:13Speaker 7: Abaco Island, which is a great island in the Bahamas,
- 11:18Speaker 7: was just flattened by a hurricane, flattened, wiped out. Brian
- 11:25Speaker 7: Irwin started flying supplies down there and came to my attention.
- 11:32Speaker 7: I thought he had some pretty cool stories to tell
- 11:37Speaker 7: about going into a place that had nothing. The people
- 11:43Speaker 7: there are very resilient, they're very poor. They need help.
- 11:48Speaker 7: The best way, I always say is be a tourist.
- 11:52Speaker 7: That's where the majority of their dollars come from. And
- 11:55Speaker 7: they're still building things back in Aboco from that devastating hurricane.
- 11:59Speaker 7: Here's the end we did with Brian Irwin. We're going
- 12:04Speaker 7: to jump out to the Player's Fund Center phone line
- 12:06Speaker 7: right now and visit with doctor Brian Irwin. He is
- 12:11Speaker 7: a physician. He's also the New England field editor for
- 12:14Speaker 7: Fly Fisherman Magazine. He's done some work with Bonefish and
- 12:19Speaker 7: tarp and trust and I dare say he was one
- 12:23Speaker 7: of the first volunteers in Abaco after the hurricane. Am
- 12:27Speaker 7: I right about that, Brian.
- 12:30Speaker 9: Yeah, there were a few other groups down there, but
- 12:32Speaker 9: there really wasn't much of a presence. There were there
- 12:36Speaker 9: were two not for profits, one called Sagred Heart, and
- 12:39Speaker 9: they sent down a couple physicians, but it was really
- 12:43Speaker 9: not adequate. So yeah, I was, I was on the
- 12:46Speaker 9: early side.
- 12:47Speaker 7: How did you get in to begin with?
- 12:51Speaker 9: Well, I have a friend who owns a bone fishing
- 12:55Speaker 9: lodge there, Oliver White, who's a pretty well known fisherman,
- 13:00Speaker 9: and a friend of his there was no commercial air
- 13:03Speaker 9: traffic getting in there, right, so the only way to
- 13:06Speaker 9: get in was with the private charter. The charter out
- 13:09Speaker 9: of Fort Lauderdale that brings his clients down is this
- 13:19Speaker 9: man by I'm sorry, he owns air flight charters, Yes,
- 13:24Speaker 9: and he doesn't have any clients to bring down because
- 13:28Speaker 9: the lodge was destroyed. So what he did was repurpose
- 13:31Speaker 9: all five of his planes into relief vehicles and took
- 13:33Speaker 9: out all the seats and he flew down I think
- 13:36Speaker 9: it was about one hundred and twenty missions. Wow, over
- 13:39Speaker 9: the period of like two months, all out of his
- 13:42Speaker 9: own pocket. I mean, he's quite an amazing man. His
- 13:45Speaker 9: name is Chris Stark. You know he drives a Ferrari.
- 13:49Speaker 9: He works in a soup kitchen, and so he got
- 13:52Speaker 9: me down there and made some connections with a group
- 13:56Speaker 9: of people who used to run a dive service. They
- 13:58Speaker 9: were able to source a house for me to say
- 14:00Speaker 9: in that you know, half of the house was still
- 14:03Speaker 9: standing and its scene structure of plan impact. They found
- 14:06Speaker 9: me a suburban and then I applied for a temporary
- 14:11Speaker 9: medical license through the Ministry of Health and got set
- 14:15Speaker 9: up with permission. Then I did some fundraising on my
- 14:18Speaker 9: own and brought down enough antibiotics and medications to treat
- 14:21Speaker 9: about fifteen hundred people, and we kind of took it
- 14:24Speaker 9: from there.
- 14:25Speaker 7: Can you describe the devastation that you witnessed when you
- 14:29Speaker 7: first got there.
- 14:32Speaker 9: It's almost impossible to describe the you know, the the
- 14:37Speaker 9: area called the mud which is in Marsh Harbor. The
- 14:40Speaker 9: largest city was the shantontown of Haitian Haitian refugees, and
- 14:48Speaker 9: they it was completely destroyed. The harbor's right there. Container
- 14:53Speaker 9: ships and all the containers rode a thirty foot storm
- 14:57Speaker 9: surge that literally went through the entire village and level
- 15:00Speaker 9: every single thing. The only thing standing there was a
- 15:03Speaker 9: single toilet. Everything else was destroyed and all bodies were lost.
- 15:07Speaker 9: There were three hundred people in a temporary shelter there,
- 15:10Speaker 9: and it just rolled through the shelter and killed everybody.
- 15:14Speaker 9: It was, you know, really unbelievable to you know, to
- 15:18Speaker 9: see the levels of the station. There's no running water there,
- 15:22Speaker 9: there's no power there, So it was it was quite harrowing.
- 15:28Speaker 9: We were able to, you know, help a lot of people,
- 15:31Speaker 9: and I feel like we made a difference, but there's
- 15:33Speaker 9: a lot of work to do, you know, and now
- 15:35Speaker 9: with COVID, they have another challenge on their hands.
- 15:37Speaker 7: So I think that marsh Harbor had a lighthouse, did
- 15:41Speaker 7: it not.
- 15:43Speaker 9: I believe that it's right off off marsh Harbor in
- 15:47Speaker 9: a different key. Yeah, I think it's called Lighthouse Key.
- 15:50Speaker 7: Actually, Okay, do we know we have any idea of
- 15:54Speaker 7: how many died, because there's never been I think any
- 15:59Speaker 7: you know, official number.
- 16:03Speaker 9: Yeah, it's it varies depending on who you ask. I
- 16:07Speaker 9: think the official death count was around six hundred, with
- 16:10Speaker 9: two thousand missing who were never never recovered, So it
- 16:14Speaker 9: was a lot greater than those you know, figures sort
- 16:17Speaker 9: of imply. I mean, the stories that you would hear
- 16:21Speaker 9: from these people were absolutely horrible. I mean there was
- 16:25Speaker 9: a man holding his child's hand and holding his grandfather's
- 16:31Speaker 9: hand as they were walking across the street in wastkeep Water,
- 16:34Speaker 9: and a wave came in and took the child and
- 16:36Speaker 9: the grandfather. And in the ocean, I mean, there was
- 16:39Speaker 9: another couple that they were expatriates who sent you, spent
- 16:43Speaker 9: all their money on a multimillion dollar beach front home,
- 16:46Speaker 9: and they tried to weather it out. And they were
- 16:48Speaker 9: sitting on the couch looking at their bay window as
- 16:51Speaker 9: the big wave came in and just sucked them right out.
- 16:54Speaker 9: They were holding onto a log and they lost the log,
- 16:57Speaker 9: and the wife was grasping him because she was drowning,
- 17:01Speaker 9: and she was effectively drowning him, so he had to
- 17:03Speaker 9: let her go. And you know stories like that, you
- 17:07Speaker 9: know hundreds and hundreds of stories like that.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Do you have an idea of an update? Have you
- 17:15Speaker 7: been back since?
- 17:19Speaker 9: I have not been back since, but Chris starked, the
- 17:23Speaker 9: pilot and I have become good friends. We actually just
- 17:26Speaker 9: took another fishing trip to Andros to do some bone
- 17:29Speaker 9: fishing together, and he said it's not really made much
- 17:33Speaker 9: progress at all. The you know, the one of the
- 17:37Speaker 9: big problems is the corruption there, Yes, there was. The
- 17:41Speaker 9: relief ships all come into Marsh Harbor and that's where
- 17:44Speaker 9: the military is based. So that's in the southern tip
- 17:48Speaker 9: of the Bigger Islands, and then Little Abaco is north
- 17:52Speaker 9: and that was cut off as the bridge was washed out.
- 17:55Speaker 9: So there are five villages in the in the North
- 17:57Speaker 9: Island and all of the all of the supplies are
- 18:01Speaker 9: coming into the South Island and they're being stolen by
- 18:04Speaker 9: the military and then sold for a profit. There's a
- 18:07Speaker 9: lot of profits hearing going on where the relief supplies
- 18:10Speaker 9: are not getting in the hands of the people that needed.
- 18:13Speaker 9: Chris Dark actually personally measured every home on the North Island,
- 18:20Speaker 9: affessed what they needed for repair materials, went back to
- 18:24Speaker 9: the States and secured the money, a lot of it
- 18:26Speaker 9: his own, to buy all of the supplies shrink wrap
- 18:29Speaker 9: each home supplies up on a separate pallet, chartered a
- 18:35Speaker 9: container ship to bring it over and sneak into a
- 18:38Speaker 9: now defunked harbor in the North Island, offloaded all and
- 18:42Speaker 9: drop it in everybody's front yard.
- 18:43Speaker 6: Wow.
- 18:44Speaker 9: To see that in action was you know, I mean,
- 18:47Speaker 9: this man's going straight to heaven.
- 18:52Speaker 7: So I had heard from I don't know a periodical
- 18:57Speaker 7: or some other fishermen that Green Turtle Kay was reopening
- 19:02Speaker 7: at least.
- 19:04Speaker 9: Yeah, I believe that's true. They have a large number
- 19:09Speaker 9: of expatriots who live there. Their finances are in better shape.
- 19:13Speaker 9: The Green Turtle Club, which I've stayed at before, was
- 19:17Speaker 9: largely destroyed, but as I understand, they pretty much rebuilt. Yes,
- 19:22Speaker 9: so they were ahead of the curve. They were already
- 19:24Speaker 9: on their feet before anybody else.
- 19:26Speaker 7: So, as far as you know, would that be the
- 19:29Speaker 7: only lodge that's open in that area right now?
- 19:36Speaker 9: That is correct? There are some guest houses on scattered
- 19:39Speaker 9: outline keys that didn't get hit quite as hard, but
- 19:43Speaker 9: I know of no other lodges. All of the lodges
- 19:47Speaker 9: on Andrew's Abbatot Proper, I believe, are still decimated.
- 19:54Speaker 7: It seems superfluous to be talking about fish during this
- 20:01Speaker 7: time when people are fighting for their lives and still
- 20:03Speaker 7: have no place to live and very little to eat
- 20:09Speaker 7: because of the finances. As you've mentioned, do you see
- 20:14Speaker 7: things being rebuilt? Do you see lodges in the future
- 20:18Speaker 7: that might be rebuilt or well, it takes some new
- 20:21Speaker 7: people to come in and have a vision for that.
- 20:25Speaker 9: Well, I believe that Oliver White was planning on rebuilding
- 20:29Speaker 9: his lodge. And there's another lodge I believe it's called
- 20:32Speaker 9: Blackfly Lodge that I believe is opening up soon. You know,
- 20:38Speaker 9: you're correct, and you know talking about fishing and you know,
- 20:42Speaker 9: in the face of you know, the struggles that these
- 20:45Speaker 9: people have, but the reality is that tourism.
- 20:48Speaker 7: That's their likelihood, that's their livelihood.
- 20:53Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean their economy was based off of that,
- 20:55Speaker 9: and so you know, there were a lot of relief
- 20:57Speaker 9: efforts to generate money to pay the guide, yes, to
- 21:02Speaker 9: feed their families in the light of this time when
- 21:05Speaker 9: they were unemployed. One such organization is set up through
- 21:11Speaker 9: Yellow Dog Outfitters in Montana that runs hosted trips down
- 21:16Speaker 9: there and they have a foundation, a community foundation. I
- 21:20Speaker 9: believe they raised a half a million dollars they actually
- 21:23Speaker 9: paid for the medow took down there.
- 21:26Speaker 7: I think Bonefish and Tarparin Trust did the same thing,
- 21:29Speaker 7: did they not, Yes.
- 21:31Speaker 9: They did, they did. They've been focusing more on assessing
- 21:36Speaker 9: how the fishery was damaged and how the deaf floor
- 21:39Speaker 9: in the flats was restructured, what kind of hit the
- 21:42Speaker 9: mangroves took, and what it would take for the population,
- 21:46Speaker 9: you know, to be restored, the bonefish population.
- 21:49Speaker 7: I have seen some reports from that that obviously the
- 21:54Speaker 7: mangroves are severely damaged, but that they have undertaken a
- 21:59Speaker 7: projeck to try and restore some of them, and according
- 22:04Speaker 7: to at least some reports, the fishing there remained very good.
- 22:11Speaker 9: That's what I found as well. I didn't fish when
- 22:15Speaker 9: I was there, but I met quite a few guys
- 22:18Speaker 9: who had been going out, and they said, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 9: the fishery actually held up quite well. When I saw
- 22:24Speaker 9: the mangrove damage, I was actually underwhelmed. I think they
- 22:29Speaker 9: held up fairly well. The problem is the cross pollination
- 22:33Speaker 9: between bushes is now challenging because every other mangrove was
- 22:37Speaker 9: ripped out. But that should fill in.
- 22:41Speaker 7: What's the name of Oliver White's lodge there?
- 22:46Speaker 9: It was the Abaco Lodge.
- 22:48Speaker 7: Oh okay. So what would be the best way for
- 22:54Speaker 7: people who have been down there and have bonefish down there?
- 22:59Speaker 7: How would you see just they go about helping maybe
- 23:04Speaker 7: speed up the process for the locals there.
- 23:08Speaker 9: I think the best thing you can do is visit
- 23:11Speaker 9: and fish and inject money into their economy. That's really
- 23:15Speaker 9: what it's going to take for them to rebuild on
- 23:17Speaker 9: their own. There's not a very efficient way to get
- 23:20Speaker 9: physical material goods down there. The water supply has been
- 23:25Speaker 9: restored as I understand it, there's a lack of food
- 23:31Speaker 9: down there. Yes, that was a major problem getting food
- 23:34Speaker 9: into the country. I think that's really gotten much much better.
- 23:37Speaker 9: But for three months, a not for profit called the
- 23:40Speaker 9: World Health Kitchen that operates all over the world dropped
- 23:45Speaker 9: in with a humongous supply of food and they would
- 23:49Speaker 9: make lunches and dinners in big aluminum trades and drop
- 23:55Speaker 9: them off on every key at every church, at the hospital,
- 24:00Speaker 9: at the clinic and would feed. You know, they fed
- 24:03Speaker 9: the whole area for three months, and it was really
- 24:07Speaker 9: impressive to see it.
- 24:08Speaker 7: Had you been in touch with anyone on Grand Bahama Island.
- 24:15Speaker 10: No No.
- 24:15Speaker 9: I met someone who was in Freeport when it hit,
- 24:21Speaker 9: and there's a large bridge in Freeport, and I guess
- 24:25Speaker 9: the sea level had risen to the point where the
- 24:28Speaker 9: border was at the bridge level. It's a high bridge too,
- 24:32Speaker 9: So he and his friend launched on jet skis and
- 24:36Speaker 9: went rooftop to rooftop and evacuated fifty people, and then
- 24:40Speaker 9: he left there because he had nowhere to live. His
- 24:42Speaker 9: home was destroyed and he came over to Abaco. So
- 24:46Speaker 9: I got some reports, but I didn't personally speak with
- 24:48Speaker 9: anybody on Grand Bahama.
- 24:50Speaker 7: Do you have any plans in the near future to
- 24:53Speaker 7: return to Abaco?
- 24:55Speaker 9: I would like to do that. It's in his you know,
- 24:57Speaker 9: the pandemic allows commercial air travel again. You know, Chris
- 25:02Speaker 9: Dark and I have continued to talk about providing more
- 25:05Speaker 9: medical relief and you know, hoping, hoping to continue to
- 25:12Speaker 9: resupply them as well. So I'd like to do that
- 25:14Speaker 9: in the fall, if that.
- 25:16Speaker 7: Is Yeah, I mean we need to point out this
- 25:20Speaker 7: is like a double whammy. Uh, they were had not
- 25:24Speaker 7: really gotten back on their feet since Dorian and I know,
- 25:28Speaker 7: we were scheduled to go to Long Island last month
- 25:32Speaker 7: to do some bone fishing and the everything got shut down.
- 25:35Speaker 7: All the flights into the country were shut down because
- 25:39Speaker 7: of the COVID virus. So they they have really paid
- 25:42Speaker 7: a price there the last couple of years.
- 25:46Speaker 9: Yeah, they really have. And you know, if if COVID
- 25:50Speaker 9: continues to spread in you know, in their population, we
- 25:54Speaker 9: really don't have much in the way of medical resources.
- 25:57Speaker 6: Yes, there was one.
- 25:58Speaker 9: There's one ventilator on the island. Wow, you know, in
- 26:02Speaker 9: the in the clinic and that was about it. You know,
- 26:07Speaker 9: out back the clinic there when I was there, there
- 26:09Speaker 9: was a refrigerator truck full of corpses because the morgue
- 26:12Speaker 9: was full. And that was you know, that was an October.
- 26:16Speaker 7: Yeah. Uh so it's it's the situation doesn't sound like
- 26:21Speaker 7: it's it's been mitigated very well, at least up till now.
- 26:28Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 26:28Speaker 9: I mean the flow of money through that country is
- 26:32Speaker 9: you know, also somewhat corrupt. Yes, as I love the
- 26:35Speaker 9: Bahamas and the beginnings, you know, it's coming out of NASA.
- 26:39Speaker 9: It doesn't all get to, you know, all of the
- 26:41Speaker 9: out islands where it's supposed to get to.
- 26:43Speaker 7: Did you understand that before this happened or was that
- 26:46Speaker 7: a surprise to you?
- 26:47Speaker 6: Brian?
- 26:49Speaker 9: It was a surprise. I had been down there half
- 26:52Speaker 9: a dozen time fishing, yes, saying at.
- 26:54Speaker 7: Lodges, and I had never seen that personally. That's why
- 26:57Speaker 7: I'm asking.
- 26:59Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean my experienced prior to Dorian had been
- 27:02Speaker 9: one of the opulance at the Dodges, where I was
- 27:04Speaker 9: fortunate enough to do some travel writing. So I was
- 27:08Speaker 9: I was kind of shocked to learn that there was that.
- 27:10Speaker 7: Undercurrent, right exactly, but whether there's money involved, Unfortunately, most
- 27:17Speaker 7: places in the world you're going to see that. So
- 27:21Speaker 7: I have told people on many occasions that the Bahaman
- 27:24Speaker 7: people are about as fine as people as I've ever been,
- 27:26Speaker 7: and they they understand that tourism pays their bills, and
- 27:31Speaker 7: you couldn't have a better group of people down there.
- 27:35Speaker 9: I completely agree with that. Everybody that I met after
- 27:40Speaker 9: they were you know, finished telling me their story, would
- 27:44Speaker 9: laugh and smile. Pure optimism. Yeah, there's a lot of support,
- 27:50Speaker 9: a lot of community feeling there. They're they're really a
- 27:55Speaker 9: wonderful people.
- 27:56Speaker 7: I guess what I would say in closing is I
- 27:59Speaker 7: would incourage people to go online and maybe find you
- 28:06Speaker 7: mentioned Black Fly Lodge and find maybe a place or
- 28:11Speaker 7: two that may be open. I know that Green Turtle
- 28:14Speaker 7: Club has just reopened, and when this pandemic ends and
- 28:19Speaker 7: they reopen, the best way, as you mentioned, to help
- 28:24Speaker 7: is to go spend money there.
- 28:27Speaker 9: I completely agree.
- 28:29Speaker 7: I really appreciate the time, Brian, fascinating. I thank you
- 28:34Speaker 7: for filling us in on what's going on.
- 28:37Speaker 9: Well, thank you so much for having me.
- 28:40Speaker 7: Yeah, I hope you enjoyed that. Just a little background
- 28:43Speaker 7: from the hurricane and Abaco years five years ago now
- 28:51Speaker 7: closer to six. But maybe I'll give you a personal
- 28:55Speaker 7: report in a few months.
- 28:57Speaker 6: Hey.

- 33:12Speaker 7: years and he has stories to tell, and he will
- 33:15Speaker 7: join us on the program on Tuesday. And coming up,
- 33:19Speaker 7: as I mentioned at the top of the hour, we're
- 33:22Speaker 7: going to do our own little tribute to Cajun Phil Brusard,
- 33:29Speaker 7: who left us a couple of weeks ago. We've been
- 33:34Speaker 7: down to his lodge with son Kevin many times, and
- 33:40Speaker 7: the world lost a character. I'm just telling you that.
- 33:42Speaker 7: And we'll hear that interview that I did with him
- 33:45Speaker 7: three years ago when we were down there. Two hikers
- 33:49Speaker 7: are recovering after they were seriously injured in a grizzly
- 33:53Speaker 7: bear attack in Canada three days ago. The hikers in
- 33:58Speaker 7: Canaday Mama Bear and two cubs in British Columbia I'm
- 34:02Speaker 7: a Gregor Mountain. They are listed in stable condition. After
- 34:08Speaker 7: an investigation, folks at Canada determine the bears action were defensive.
- 34:15Speaker 7: No action will be taken against the bears due to
- 34:19Speaker 7: the location and nature of the incident. Hikers have been
- 34:25Speaker 7: told to avoid the Past Lake area. In the wake
- 34:28Speaker 7: of the attack. Em and MacArthur says investigators are looking
- 34:33Speaker 7: to exactly what happened. The CSO offered some safety tips.
- 34:38Speaker 7: I always liked these. The tips include staying alert. What
- 34:42Speaker 7: a great tip. Guys stay alert in bear country, making
- 34:51Speaker 7: noise regularly to avoid surprising a bear. I've said this
- 34:54Speaker 7: before when I went to Alaska. The guides there wear
- 34:57Speaker 7: cowbells around their necks. They also carry very large lethal
- 35:04Speaker 7: side arms and bear spray. Okay, their job is to
- 35:09Speaker 7: keep the group safe. That group's paying a lot of
- 35:11Speaker 7: money to go fishing in Alaska. They wear cowbells just
- 35:15Speaker 7: so they won't surprise traveling groups carry bear spray, keep
- 35:22Speaker 7: a clean camp. MacArthur specifically recommended that the hikers carry
- 35:29Speaker 7: the noisemakers, avoid bear habitats, fresh track, scat, animal carcasses. Yeah,
- 35:39Speaker 7: be aware of that. And if you encounter a bear
- 35:44Speaker 7: the old stay calm and don't run, but slowly back
- 35:49Speaker 7: away in a calm voice. If the bear charges, spray them.
- 35:59Speaker 7: You don't have spray shoot him. If you don't have
- 36:04Speaker 7: a gun, pray. That's all I can say. After repeated
- 36:13Speaker 7: leopard attacks in the Pune district in Inja, fifty leopards
- 36:20Speaker 7: will be transferred to animal rescue and rehab This week,
- 36:26Speaker 7: a six year old girl was killed in a leopard attack,
- 36:30Speaker 7: the third death of the year. The district's guardian minister said,
- 36:36Speaker 7: we have spoken to the Minister of Environment forced in
- 36:39Speaker 7: climate change. We said people are tired and frustrated. He
- 36:43Speaker 7: said leopards should be captured and neutered. A decision has
- 36:47Speaker 7: been taken that around fifty leopards will be shifted. That's
- 36:50Speaker 7: a lot of leopards. In March, six were injured as
- 36:56Speaker 7: they tried to capture a leopard. I don't think that
- 37:01Speaker 7: I want that on my business card. What do you
- 37:04Speaker 7: do I capture leopards. Now this past April and eighty
- 37:10Speaker 7: five year old woman was killed. Twenty twenty four, eight
- 37:15Speaker 7: people were killed in the Pune district. If you're keeping score,
- 37:18Speaker 7: that's fourteen people died by leopard in the last year
- 37:23Speaker 7: and a half. That seems to be excessive to me,
- 37:26Speaker 7: But then you know I don't live in that area.
- 37:34Speaker 7: Uh ah. If that wasn't bad enough. The girl by
- 37:40Speaker 7: the way was near her house when she was attacked.
- 37:42Speaker 7: In the middle of the afternoon. Last Saturday, two people
- 37:46Speaker 7: were injured in a jackal attack. Yeah, this India isn't
- 37:53Speaker 7: like here where angry villagers later killed the animal. Been
- 38:00Speaker 7: a series of wolf attacks claiming six lives, including four children,
- 38:08Speaker 7: and last Thursday, four more children now three children and
- 38:13Speaker 7: an adult were injured in a village after being attacked
- 38:19Speaker 7: by jackals. I don't know if this has anything to
- 38:24Speaker 7: do with anything, but obviously very poor area, right and
- 38:31Speaker 7: I don't know the rules and regulations. I doubt that
- 38:35Speaker 7: people are allowed to have firearms without really really special certificates.
- 38:44Speaker 7: I doubt if most of these people, frankly, could afford
- 38:49Speaker 7: a firearm if they were allowed. But I bet mothers
- 38:56Speaker 7: and fathers would find a way to procure a firearm.
- 39:03Speaker 7: If kids are getting attacked and eaten by jackals and
- 39:07Speaker 7: leopards and wolves. Oh my, you're what I'm saying. Fortunately,
- 39:18Speaker 7: we don't have jackals and leopards and wolves around here.
- 39:22Speaker 7: We do have other things, if I've mentioned many times,
- 39:26Speaker 7: including mountain lions. They're fairly rare, but not as rare
- 39:32Speaker 7: as you would think. There's always pictures of them on
- 39:34Speaker 7: game trails. They travel to creeks, they travel long ways
- 39:40Speaker 7: looking for deer, and we know there are a lot
- 39:42Speaker 7: of deer in the city. I'm just saying, let's be
- 39:46Speaker 7: careful out there, people and get them before they get you,
- 39:51Speaker 7: get them before they get you. Our Cowboys Report is
- 39:58Speaker 7: brought to you by Shulty Rooms and the Decker Financial Group.
- 40:02Speaker 8: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 40:04Speaker 8: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 40:07Speaker 8: I found Shorlty Roofing, and boy, I'm glad I did.
- 40:09Speaker 8: The folks at Shulty guided me every step of the way.
- 40:12Speaker 8: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 40:14Speaker 8: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 40:17Speaker 8: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 40:21Speaker 8: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 40:23Speaker 8: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 40:25Speaker 8: roof in one day.
- 40:29Speaker 7: The Home by the Volley Roof roof.

- 40:59Speaker 15: Guys worried about getting to work, going to work this
- 41:04Speaker 15: week and you know, getting better each week so that
- 41:08Speaker 15: we can be more consistent execute. And we feel like,
- 41:13Speaker 15: as coach Chatteimer said, well, we've got good personnel and
- 41:18Speaker 15: I think we're going to evolve into a good defense.
- 41:22Speaker 15: We just have to continue to go to.

- 43:22Speaker 7: Hey, welcome back to mclark Eisenhower auditioned for a Thursday afternoon.
- 43:26Speaker 7: Thanks for hanging in with us. As we mentioned a
- 43:28Speaker 7: couple of times, I'm going to replay an interview I
- 43:31Speaker 7: did with Cajun Phil Brussard three years ago. I had
- 43:36Speaker 7: been to Cajun Paradise Lodge since then, but a lot
- 43:41Speaker 7: of times I talked to Captain Kevin or one of
- 43:44Speaker 7: the other guides that we use down there. This particular
- 43:48Speaker 7: time and several times before we've gotten a chance to
- 43:51Speaker 7: talk to Phil. You can just probably hear in his
- 43:58Speaker 7: voice who Phil is. So here's our interview with Cajun Phil.
- 44:06Speaker 1: We're in Hackberry, Louisiana, Cajun Paradise Lodge with Cajun Phil
- 44:11Speaker 1: here on the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition. You guys know
- 44:17Speaker 1: what you're doing around here. I've figured that out over
- 44:20Speaker 1: the years, I think.
- 44:21Speaker 18: Well thirty five years of doing the same thing day in,
- 44:23Speaker 18: day and out with for of the best guys own
- 44:26Speaker 18: Calculshoe Lake. I mean, we try real hard. That's the
- 44:29Speaker 18: only thing we can do. Everybody's got guys, everybody's got fishing,
- 44:33Speaker 18: everybody's got you know, meals about the only thing we
- 44:36Speaker 18: try to do a little bit different, so off for
- 44:38Speaker 18: a little more service, and that's what we try to do.
- 44:40Speaker 6: Well.
- 44:41Speaker 1: In fact, as we speak, you've got like thirty guys
- 44:43Speaker 1: come in a company group coming in today. So you
- 44:46Speaker 1: can accommodate large groups. You can commodate like the two
- 44:50Speaker 1: of us and everything in between.
- 44:52Speaker 6: Now you got your lodge rebuilt. I really like it.
- 44:54Speaker 18: Yes, sir, we sleep nine here and tonight we actually
- 44:58Speaker 18: got four different lodges but this one that sleeps nine,
- 45:01Speaker 18: which is ours. We offer lodging meals and fishing, or
- 45:05Speaker 18: just lodging and fishing, or just fishing only. So we
- 45:09Speaker 18: give them an option. And these people are getting a great,
- 45:11Speaker 18: big old cookout tonight. We got Bubba Gilly going to
- 45:14Speaker 18: do a big old barbecue tonight. Tomorrow we're doing a
- 45:16Speaker 18: big old, big old saucepy call. So I mean we're
- 45:20Speaker 18: gonna fix them up, yes sir, And then they're gonna
- 45:21Speaker 18: catch a bunch of fish. So we're gonna have eight
- 45:23Speaker 18: boats fishing tomorrow and it's fun who come on funny feeling?
- 45:29Speaker 6: How long's the lodge been reopened?
- 45:31Speaker 18: Reopen now about four months? So we were here in
- 45:34Speaker 18: March and it wasn't quite quite ready right now. Keep
- 45:37Speaker 18: in mind we still don't have the what do you
- 45:40Speaker 18: call the roof on our boat lifts and boat stalls,
- 45:42Speaker 18: but they are here. We got the fish cleaning table,
- 45:45Speaker 18: got the ice machine downstairs on the lodge. We got
- 45:49Speaker 18: tables and chairs set up. Like I said, we've got
- 45:52Speaker 18: a television set. We've got sound around sound, so I
- 45:55Speaker 18: mean we're fixed up. Like we always say, hey, coman
- 45:57Speaker 18: get you something. Let's get it done.
- 45:59Speaker 1: I love what you've done downstairs here with this new area.
- 46:02Speaker 1: This is really nice.
- 46:03Speaker 18: Yeah, we spent a lot of extra time and a
- 46:06Speaker 18: little bit of cash we had left. That's why we
- 46:08Speaker 18: don't have a roof on the boat stalls yet, because
- 46:10Speaker 18: we wanted this thing really nice for when people come
- 46:13Speaker 18: they can sit back, relax and enjoy themselves. And we
- 46:17Speaker 18: got a good gulf breeze just about every day coming
- 46:20Speaker 18: off the Gulf, and it's just fine.
- 46:22Speaker 13: You know.
- 46:22Speaker 6: I know this happens, and in the fall it can happen.
- 46:26Speaker 1: But when you're throwing top waters in the surf and
- 46:30Speaker 1: catching big surf front trout, I don't think it gets
- 46:32Speaker 1: much better than that.
- 46:33Speaker 18: No, And right now, as y'all found out today, there's
- 46:36Speaker 18: a lot of two pound trout out there, and if
- 46:38Speaker 18: they jumping on that top water bait, I know y'all
- 46:40Speaker 18: had a good time.
- 46:42Speaker 1: We did, and we had to wrangle them away from
- 46:44Speaker 1: the sharks. I don't think we've ever seen so many
- 46:46Speaker 1: sharks we brought. We brought four fish to the boat
- 46:49Speaker 1: with just the heads on them.
- 46:51Speaker 18: Right the other day, Kevin and Is people actually aboded
- 46:56Speaker 18: and released, of course, thirty sharks in one day. But
- 47:00Speaker 18: I mean they limited out with trout, limit out with reds.
- 47:02Speaker 18: So if what it is is the trout's going to
- 47:05Speaker 18: move in, it's going to slow the bite down a
- 47:07Speaker 18: little bit. But you catch one or two and then
- 47:10Speaker 18: they leave and then you catch another ten or fifteen trouts.
- 47:13Speaker 18: So it's just you just got to have patience.
- 47:16Speaker 6: You know what.
- 47:16Speaker 1: It was worth fighting for the sharks for Like you said,
- 47:20Speaker 1: I mean we lost four fish, but we caught about
- 47:23Speaker 1: thirty of them, and that was worth the trade off.
- 47:27Speaker 18: I think definitely, that's for sure. Anytime you can come
- 47:30Speaker 18: in with the bag y'all just came in with today,
- 47:33Speaker 18: I'll tell you what, that's well worth fighting a few
- 47:35Speaker 18: sharks for any day of the week.
- 47:37Speaker 1: And I got to tell you I caught my two
- 47:39Speaker 1: personal best bull rid fish today as well.
- 47:42Speaker 6: That was fun.
- 47:42Speaker 18: Did y'all see the big schools or did you just
- 47:45Speaker 18: come in they just fixed up with the trout.
- 47:48Speaker 6: Well, I think won about thirty pounds. That was enough
- 47:52Speaker 6: for me. It is all I can handle.
- 47:53Speaker 18: Well, it was crazy. Yesterday Captain Ben was going out
- 47:56Speaker 18: and they saw a huge school of the big bull
- 47:58Speaker 18: reds and the guy said, hey, I don't care if
- 48:00Speaker 18: we catch a trout. We caught those yesterday because they
- 48:02Speaker 18: were here for two days. They sat right there and
- 48:04Speaker 18: hammered about fifteen of the biggest bulls, and they said,
- 48:07Speaker 18: every one of them caught the biggest of their life.
- 48:09Speaker 18: They just had a field day catching and releasing bulls.
- 48:12Speaker 18: So the day before they caught trout yesterday they caught
- 48:14Speaker 18: bull rid. So hey, we'll do it all.
- 48:16Speaker 6: And it's that time of year when they're schooling, isn't it.
- 48:20Speaker 18: Oh yeah, right now, it's simply stupid. I mean, it's
- 48:22Speaker 18: not gonna get any better than it is right now.
- 48:25Speaker 18: And it's gonna be like this till we get some
- 48:27Speaker 18: kind of bad weather move in. Hopefully we don't, but
- 48:30Speaker 18: it's gonna be good for you know, month, two months,
- 48:33Speaker 18: it'll be good. Actually all the way through January. Last year,
- 48:35Speaker 18: we would catch it a tremendous aunts of fish in
- 48:37Speaker 18: November and December.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Well, I follow you on social media. I know the
- 48:41Speaker 1: last two weeks the weather has been stable. It's been
- 48:44Speaker 1: about like this, the water's been green. You guys have
- 48:47Speaker 1: been hammering fish.
- 48:48Speaker 18: Yes, sir, we sure have, and like I said, we
- 48:50Speaker 18: expected to stay that way. Anybody out there could go
- 48:52Speaker 18: on the field Phil Bruce saw and Facebook and see
- 48:56Speaker 18: the pictures. I post them every day, and keep in mind,
- 48:59Speaker 18: this is almost end of our outdoors at fishing television season.
- 49:03Speaker 18: We got two more weeks on Bali BA L L
- 49:06Speaker 18: Y Bali Sports Outdoors Sunday morning, six am, and we
- 49:10Speaker 18: got two fantastic ridfish films coming up. That's gonna scare
- 49:13Speaker 18: anybody that watches it.
- 49:16Speaker 1: You guys fish the red fish. You and Kevin fish
- 49:19Speaker 1: the red fish circuit for quite a while, did you know.
- 49:21Speaker 18: Yeah, we fished for fifteen years. We had twenty seven
- 49:24Speaker 18: top tens, we had twelve top five, we won seven
- 49:28Speaker 18: first place, we won Team of the Year twice, and
- 49:30Speaker 18: we won the red Fish Cup championship. So we had
- 49:34Speaker 18: a heck of a run for fifteen years. And finally
- 49:36Speaker 18: his business got so busy we just couldn't could keep
- 49:39Speaker 18: it up because if you don't do it right, you're
- 49:40Speaker 18: not going to do good. And doing it right means
- 49:42Speaker 18: spending ten fifteen days, you know, pre fishing.
- 49:45Speaker 1: And I think I remember this correctly, either you were.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Kevin told me that when you won the Redfish Cup
- 49:53Speaker 1: that helped build your first lodge.
- 49:54Speaker 6: Did it not? It did?
- 49:56Speaker 18: Yes, sir, because that same year we won the Team
- 49:59Speaker 18: of the Year and Fish Cup and they both paid
- 50:01Speaker 18: one hundred grand, so that that helped us a whole lot.
- 50:04Speaker 18: If we remember for that, we'd still be struggling right now.
- 50:07Speaker 6: And then and then it got all blown away.
- 50:09Speaker 18: He got blown away, so we had to start over.
- 50:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been two years, all right.
- 50:15Speaker 18: It's been two years. Yeah, matter of fact, we've been
- 50:17Speaker 18: in it only like I said, you know, just a
- 50:19Speaker 18: very short period of time. We've been fighting since uh
- 50:22Speaker 18: last September or whatever.
- 50:24Speaker 1: You had not only one storm, you had two back
- 50:26Speaker 1: to back with then what a week or ten days
- 50:28Speaker 1: of one another.
- 50:29Speaker 18: Right, we both both of our homes got destroyed and
- 50:31Speaker 18: lived in a travel trailer for over a year. And uh,
- 50:35Speaker 18: it's just been a hassle. But you know, the Good
- 50:37Speaker 18: Lord always just says, you don't hang in there. I'm
- 50:39Speaker 18: gonna provide, and and he did, and uh, hey, we're
- 50:42Speaker 18: back up and running. We blessed. Anybody that wants to come,
- 50:44Speaker 18: just give me a call three three seven five four
- 50:47Speaker 18: zero five five three zero look me up Cajun Phil
- 50:51Speaker 18: at hotmail dot com. And like, hey, like I always say,
- 50:54Speaker 18: who come on, funny feeling.
- 50:57Speaker 1: And also if you just google Cajun Paradise Charters or
- 51:01Speaker 1: Cajun Paradise Lodge, all of that will come up. The
- 51:04Speaker 1: phone number will be there. You can get in touch
- 51:06Speaker 1: with them by email, by the website. You can do
- 51:08Speaker 1: that obviously, you can call and book. I know this
- 51:12Speaker 1: is a very popular time of year to fish field
- 51:14Speaker 1: because it's a great time of year.
- 51:15Speaker 18: To fish right. Yeah, we and we don't have a
- 51:18Speaker 18: whole lot of openings, but yes, yes we do. I
- 51:20Speaker 18: mean especially during the week. Weekends are horrific to try
- 51:24Speaker 18: to find an opening. But if you can come Monday,
- 51:26Speaker 18: TESA and Wednesday, we can usually find a boat. We got,
- 51:29Speaker 18: like I said, we got four full time guys, but
- 51:31Speaker 18: we got ten to fifteen the fish with us all
- 51:33Speaker 18: the time. They're replical guys, but guid on the lake forever.
- 51:37Speaker 18: And yes, indeed we'd love to have you. We not
- 51:39Speaker 18: only love too, we need to have you. So we
- 51:42Speaker 18: got to pay for all this and keep everything going.
- 51:45Speaker 18: And in order to keep the best guys, you got
- 51:48Speaker 18: to pay them good and so that's what we do,
- 51:50Speaker 18: and we just try to have the best operation here
- 51:52Speaker 18: in Hackberry, Louisiana.
- 51:53Speaker 1: Well, I've been with several of your guys and that
- 51:56Speaker 1: they're all top flight.
- 51:58Speaker 6: And obviously what.
- 51:58Speaker 1: We did today was a amazing The reason we're here
- 52:02Speaker 1: because I follow you on social media and you put out, hey,
- 52:05Speaker 1: we had a cancelation on Friday and Sunday, and I
- 52:09Speaker 1: called you right up.
- 52:10Speaker 6: I said, hey, can we have that slot.
- 52:12Speaker 18: Keep one thing in mind too, besides us posted anytime
- 52:16Speaker 18: we get a cancelation. By the way, the people had COVID,
- 52:18Speaker 18: so they didn't cancel it, just moved it till they
- 52:20Speaker 18: were all well and they coming back next month. But
- 52:23Speaker 18: we do the cast and blast, which is coming up
- 52:26Speaker 18: very shortly. You come in at noon, you fish that afternoon,
- 52:30Speaker 18: you duck hunt the next morning, you get lodging, you
- 52:32Speaker 18: get meals, and most people book two days. They fish,
- 52:35Speaker 18: you get the next day and leave the other. Now,
- 52:38Speaker 18: the group that's here now it's two to the blind
- 52:41Speaker 18: and two to the boat. We'll take six people. That's
- 52:44Speaker 18: three blinds, three boats. They're going to fish in the afternoon,
- 52:48Speaker 18: hunting in the morning and come in and swap out.
- 52:50Speaker 18: They're gonna have six more come in and these six
- 52:52Speaker 18: are going to leave. So hey, we take care of
- 52:54Speaker 18: any scenario.
- 52:55Speaker 6: You won't and Trys told me the teal hunting has
- 52:59Speaker 6: been pretty good.
- 52:59Speaker 18: So it's been very very good, Yes, sir. A lot
- 53:03Speaker 18: of days they don't quite get their limit. But I mean,
- 53:05Speaker 18: whenever you get as man as the canna's still coming
- 53:07Speaker 18: in twelve, fifteen, eighteen, right now and now during duck season,
- 53:11Speaker 18: it ought to be just I mean, last year was
- 53:13Speaker 18: the best year we've had in eight years. And again
- 53:16Speaker 18: Captain Kevin and Carlos and Captain Travis all three hunt
- 53:19Speaker 18: close together. And hey, all you got to do is
- 53:23Speaker 18: say I want to do a little combo cast and
- 53:26Speaker 18: blast and we will fix you up.
- 53:28Speaker 6: Well, I got to tell you it's been hot. It's
- 53:30Speaker 6: been unusually hot.
- 53:32Speaker 7: It's warm today, but it's that time of year right
- 53:36Speaker 7: that the light kind of changes, the days get a
- 53:39Speaker 7: little shorter. The fish know the winter's coming, and they
- 53:41Speaker 7: are feeding up.
- 53:43Speaker 18: And they are glutting. If you notice how fat they are,
- 53:45Speaker 18: all them bigger, all up, All them fish are hughting
- 53:47Speaker 18: hand they bad huge. Now, my cameramaning producer lives at Oklahoma.
- 53:51Speaker 18: He said, they're supposed to get a cool stop. This
- 53:53Speaker 18: week's supposed to be. Yeah, it's supposed to be around
- 53:55Speaker 18: fifty at night and seven in the daytime. So we
- 53:57Speaker 18: could hand a little of that right now, because right
- 53:58Speaker 18: now I think today is it's ninety eight. But hey,
- 54:01Speaker 18: the speckl trot hit your top water base every time
- 54:03Speaker 18: you do it.
- 54:04Speaker 1: And the other thing is, even if it is ninety
- 54:07Speaker 1: eight and those speckl trotter hit your top water, you're
- 54:10Speaker 1: not thinking about how hot it is.
- 54:11Speaker 18: No heck, no nobody comes to even sweating, you know
- 54:14Speaker 18: what I mean.
- 54:14Speaker 6: I don't think we did today. I'm serious. We got
- 54:17Speaker 6: off the water before you know. The sun got it right.
- 54:20Speaker 18: Keep in mind that we'll furish everything you don't want
- 54:22Speaker 18: to bring ron and reels. We first a rod and reel.
- 54:24Speaker 18: We furs the ice, we do the fish cleaning, we
- 54:26Speaker 18: do the live bait. We'll do whatever it takes to
- 54:28Speaker 18: make you happy. And it's all included in one price.
- 54:31Speaker 18: So yeah, just call book your trip three three seven
- 54:35Speaker 18: five four zero five five three zero call old Cajun Phil.
- 54:38Speaker 18: All talk fish and witches.
- 54:40Speaker 6: You know that Cajun Phil tap fishing.
- 54:42Speaker 1: I doubt if you can hear the electric now from
- 54:43Speaker 1: the background, But it's taking a while to get all
- 54:45Speaker 1: our fish cleaned, for sure.
- 54:47Speaker 6: And by the way, we're leaving you some too.
- 54:49Speaker 1: We got way too many to take back, so we're
- 54:52Speaker 1: leaving some camp fish for the guys that are coming
- 54:54Speaker 1: after us.
- 54:55Speaker 18: You can bring home all you won't, but yes, sir,
- 54:58Speaker 18: we'll be glad to take them because we do a
- 54:59Speaker 18: lot lot of fish fries. Yeah. Think And if you
- 55:03Speaker 18: look at these ice, yes on the side, they full
- 55:04Speaker 18: of shrimp. My shripperd just showed up dropped off a
- 55:08Speaker 18: bunch of can I'll make you a deal sixteen and
