Pamela, or Virtue Rewarded Volume 2 Letter 15

The Samuel Richardson Library · Sep 15, 2026 · 15m

In which the gentle Pamela, from her constrained condition and the sudden turn of her fortunes, reflects with honest humility and firm virtue upon her pardon of Mrs. Jewkes, whose former cruelty she deigns to forgive as part of a greater design of Providence. She lays bare the tangled nature of power and submission, revealing the delicate balance she must keep amidst high spirits and proud hearts, all the while seeking to justify her conduct to her esteemed correspondents.
