- 0:27Hey, good morning from the chicken coop everybody.
- 0:30So today I want to talk to you about time and a specific angle
- 0:34on time. Today the Buddha is quoted as
- 0:38having said, the problem is you think you have time.
- 0:42Such a hard phrase to hear, right?
- 0:43The problem is you think you have time.
- 0:46And in the big scheme of things, we all believe we have time to
- 0:51do the things we want to do. We all believe that we are going
- 0:54to have the time to take the vacation by the RV, go on the
- 0:58trip, write the book, you know, have the kids, get the dog, do
- 1:03whatever it is that we might want to do.
- 1:06But really, do we have time? And the question that this is a
- 1:11very big question for you to contemplate today is all really
- 1:17it comes down to what are you putting your focus on?
- 1:20And if something is truly important to you, are you making
- 1:23the time in your life for it? Because none of us are here for
- 1:27a guaranteed amount of time. None of none of us know when our
- 1:30expiration date is. Even those that have been told
- 1:33they have an expiration date don't necessarily know if that's
- 1:36true. And it doesn't mean that it will
- 1:38be true. Just because another human says
- 1:40it does not make it true. And we get very hung up on the
- 1:44fact that we we'll put things off and put things off and put
- 1:48things off because we are dealing with minutiae.
- 1:51We are dealing with things that are, you know, everyday stuff
- 1:55like doing laundry and cleaning and, you know, taking care of
- 2:00paying bills and doing all the crazy stuff that humans have to
- 2:04do in our daily lives to quote, UN quote, survive.
- 2:08And those things end up eating us up and they take up our
- 2:12mental space. They take up our capacity and
- 2:15put us in a place of just mostly overwhelmed because there's so
- 2:19many of those menial tasks around us all the time that we
- 2:22forget about the stuff that is on maybe the bucket list.
- 2:27Maybe it, you call it the bucket list, maybe you don't.
- 2:29I don't have a bucket list, but I, I have definitely, I have a
- 2:32list of things that will be done in my lifetime and planning them
- 2:39all out. And the challenge we have is we
- 2:43think we have time and we put them off and we say, well, I'll
- 2:46get to that next year or I will get to that in a five years.
- 2:50And we, we put things on a spectrum assuming we will have
- 2:55all this time. And the reality is we don't, we
- 2:59don't have all this time. Life goes by very quickly.
- 3:03Anybody who has gone from the age of 25 to 50 understands how
- 3:09quickly life goes by that feels. That span of time in in digits
- 3:14seems like a long time. But the truth is it goes by in a
- 3:18heartbeat. It goes by when you see it, you
- 3:21know, you're all of a sudden your kids that you had when you
- 3:24were in your 20s are now in their 20s and you're going, holy
- 3:27cow, how did this happen? And you're being presented with
- 3:31the fact that they're having children and you're going to be
- 3:33a grandparent. And you're like, how can I be a
- 3:35grandparent? I still feel like I'm a kid.
- 3:38And there's this shock in you that said, Oh my gosh.
- 3:42And even if you're not, think about the time, even if you're
- 3:45young and you're listen to this, think about the time you were in
- 3:47high school to now that you're in your 20s, that is a chunk of
- 3:51time. And it feels like it went by
- 3:53just in a snap of a finger. So this, this concept of time
- 3:58that we have, it screws with us and it makes us think, Oh yeah,
- 4:02I'll get to it, I'll get to it, I'll get to it.
- 4:05But the reason I wanted to have this conversation with you today
- 4:08is the exact reason why I, I'm out here in the chicken coop
- 4:11recording because I had put this off and put this off and put
- 4:15this off. And I ran into this quote in one
- 4:19of my books. I have it written down multiple
- 4:21times throughout my journals, my notebooks, everything.
- 4:24The problem is you think you have time.
- 4:26The problem is you think you have time.
- 4:28And I've always been heavily moved by the quote.
- 4:32Over the years I've done things, I've taken trips, I've I've
- 4:36jumped into jobs and done stuff that people thought were
- 4:40absolutely insane. Going to work for Tony Robbins
- 4:42and giving up advertising and everything else.
- 4:44Everyone thought what are you doing?
- 4:46It was based around this. The problem is you think you
- 4:49have time because I lost my dad when he was 57 years old.
- 4:54And to me, he was so young and he said, you know, when he was,
- 4:59he knew he was ill. He said, well, I've had a really
- 5:02great life. And I can't imagine, I can't
- 5:06imagine what that must have felt like because I still feel like I
- 5:11have so much to do. And I can't believe that now at
- 5:15that age, I'm sitting there going, holy cow.
- 5:19I can't imagine that what he must have felt like, because I
- 5:22feel like I have so much more that I want to do.
- 5:25So when I come back to this whole thing, the problem is you
- 5:27think you have time. Now I recognize I don't.
- 5:31So this was one of these things that I had talked about doing,
- 5:34having chickens. They're a major force in my life
- 5:37to the happiness and having them, having them just be a part
- 5:41of my everyday life again. And I made it happen.
- 5:46And when it came up to doing the the podcast, and I had talked
- 5:49about doing it for so long as I've said another podcast, this
- 5:53was my natural like it just went off and it was like a natural
- 5:57bells going off and saying, yes, this is it.
- 5:59Go do it in the chicken coop. And ever since I made the
- 6:02decision, it's been every single day since then.
- 6:06And I have not regretted it at all, but it put me in a place or
- 6:11I had to think about, well, if you're not going to do it now or
- 6:14when are you going to do it? Because the problem is you think
- 6:17you have time. So you either make the time or
- 6:20you sit there and think about when will it be time.
- 6:23And I think that's the conundrum that you have to ponder today.
- 6:26If you're not going to do it, when will you do it?
- 6:29When will you make the time? Because time goes by quickly.
- 6:33And the problem is we think we have lots of it and we don't.
- 6:36So if there are things that just you've always wanted to do and
- 6:40there are things that you've always wanted to experience and
- 6:43there are things that you've always wanted to say, you tried.
- 6:46And even if it's sitting down and doing something as solo as
- 6:49writing a book, whatever it might be, you have to make the
- 6:52choice to say now is the time and make those things happen.
- 6:58Because if you wait for the time to show up, I promise you it
- 7:01won't. It's just like there's never a
- 7:03good time to have a kid or buy a house or get a puppy, whatever
- 7:06it might be. It it.
- 7:08This is all about what you put your focus on and your intent.
- 7:11So don't go down the road of constantly being under the
- 7:14illusion that you think you have time because it's not promised
- 7:17to anybody. So figure out what's special to
- 7:20you and make sure you understand that I want to do this because
- 7:26it's important to me. And I'm going to make the time.
- 7:28I'm not just going to wait for the time.
- 7:30I hope you guys have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 7:32Bye.
