Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Brian Carey, that one from the 90s. And that's kind
- 0:02Speaker 1: of what we're talking about here at Light FM. It's Cubby, Christine,
- 0:04Speaker 1: producer Kristen. We're having a 90s party here because, after all,
- 0:07Speaker 1: everybody else is having a.
- 0:09Speaker 2: 90s party, right? Yeah. That was the 90210 opening right there.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:14Speaker 2: So, yeah, people were texting in at 44363. They were
- 0:17Speaker 2: digging our conversation.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah, they said you can't have the 90s without watching
- 0:20Speaker 3: episodes of Beverly Hills 90210. Uh-huh. And, Cubby, thank you
- 0:24Speaker 3: for accommodating. 201, love Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam. Totally
- 0:28Speaker 3: reminds me of the 90s.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Well, when you brought up the flannel and the Doc Martens,
- 0:31Speaker 1: I think of that whole Pearl Jam, Nirvana era.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Yes, so do I.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yep.
- 0:35Speaker 3: And they're going to honor Nirvana right at the MTV
- 0:37Speaker 3: Video Music Awards this year, the Vanguard Awards. So looking
- 0:41Speaker 3: forward to that. 732 noticed something that you said, Cubby.
- 0:45Speaker 2: What?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Cubby said stoop.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Oh, yes. I was talking about, is it too early
- 0:50Speaker 2: to put pumpkins on the stoop? Yeah. And I sometimes
- 0:53Speaker 2: say step, but I do say stoop sometimes. I think
- 0:56Speaker 2: I do.
- 0:57Speaker 3: This person says, I always say that.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Someone keeping the old school terminology alive. It's also like
- 1:02Speaker 3: for me being brought up in this area.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 3: It's the front stoop. It's just what we call it.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:07Speaker 3: But I know it's not your thing exactly, Covey, but
- 1:11Speaker 3: a lot of the influencers that I see, Instagram, they're
- 1:15Speaker 3: doing a lot of like 90s makeup. They're going back
- 1:18Speaker 3: and getting, like, the old MAC lipsticks that we used
- 1:22Speaker 3: to use. Do you remember? They would be, like, a
- 1:23Speaker 3: dark brown.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it was more... Is gothic the right word?
- 1:27Speaker 3: A little gothy.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Compare it... Like, the 80s were just colorful. Right.
- 1:32Speaker 2: The 90s were darkish.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:34Speaker 2: As far as the makeup was.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I called it, like, goth-lite.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 3: It was kind of a look I really loved and embraced. So, yeah,
- 1:40Speaker 3: they're trying to do, like, those kind of styles. And
- 1:43Speaker 3: I love it because... I'm like, was it that long ago?
- 1:45Speaker 3: It was so long ago that women on there were like,
- 1:48Speaker 3: they had such great colors in the 90s. Why don't
- 1:50Speaker 3: they make these anymore? Like it was a long gone era.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Do you think there were a lot of great colors
- 1:58Speaker 2: in the 90s compared to the 80s?
- 2:01Speaker 3: No comparison to me. I'm all 90s. Like I love
- 2:04Speaker 3: the music of the 90s. I love the fashions. I
- 2:07Speaker 3: just love how it was in town, like working in
- 2:10Speaker 3: Manhattan in the 90s.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I like all of it. I just do.
- 2:15Speaker 3: They existed, but we didn't, you know, live and die
- 2:19Speaker 3: by them.
- 2:19Speaker 2: My first cell phone was only in the car. It
- 2:22Speaker 2: was attached to the car. If you remember that. So
- 2:24Speaker 2: you can only use it in the car. It was
- 2:26Speaker 2: on a holder in the car.
- 2:27Speaker 3: For emergency purposes only.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Yeah. And a friend of mine was like, you should
- 2:31Speaker 2: just get one to carry around. Right. And I said, no,
- 2:34Speaker 2: I'll use it way too much.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And I don't think it was until 96 when I
- 2:38Speaker 1: got my first Nokia phone where you could play that
- 2:41Speaker 1: game Snake on it or something like that.
- 2:43Speaker 3: And there you were.
- 2:44Speaker 2: There I was. Hooked ever since. Hooked ever since.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I know.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I know.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Oh, the 90s. I got to tell you.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I think we just get nostalgic for these times.
- 2:51Speaker 2: That's all.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Maybe I see it with rose-colored glasses, but it just
- 2:53Speaker 3: felt like a good time.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And again, the 90s is the new 80s. As far as... Yes.
- 2:59Speaker 1: You know, like 80s are still popular, but I really
- 3:01Speaker 1: feel like the 90s are like having their moment right now.
- 3:03Speaker 3: It seems like the 80s will forever be popular.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Right. Well, again, we'll tell you this real quick.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Today we know is a heavy day for our city
- 3:11Speaker 1: and our country, and we are going to be pausing
- 3:13Speaker 1: later to remember the lives lost on 9-11. But again,
- 3:17Speaker 1: we're also here to walk you through this day together.
- 3:19Speaker 1: With great music and some, you know, just silly conversations.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Like our 90s now.
- 3:23Speaker 3: I think for a lot of us, this is a
- 3:25Speaker 3: tough day. So we just want to be here for
- 3:28Speaker 3: you however you want us to be here for you.
- 3:30Speaker 2: We're going to navigate through the day together. And actually,
- 3:32Speaker 2: you'll catch us up on the headlines and what else.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Well, there's some tips to a longer life that we
- 3:38Speaker 3: can check out as well.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I'll take it.
