- 1:34SPEAKER_00: Everybody happy with that.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: We'll do it live, Dean.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Do it live.

- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Taylor over here.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Um the topic that we're going to tackle is relatively new to the fishing industry.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, about a month old maximum.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: I'd say, yeah, ish.
- 2:01SPEAKER_04: That's what we're trying to get out of it.
- 2:03SPEAKER_04: That's we're kind of getting out of it, anyways.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: But the headline is Bassmaster Open Angler Banned for Life.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Now, we've talked about uh folks who've tried cheating in professional tournaments, uh probably at nauseum on this program.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Everybody loves it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Everybody loves it.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: Do they love it?
- 2:22SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Do they really, though?
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: Are they just saying that they hate it, but they love it.
- 2:26SPEAKER_04: It's like that.
- 2:27SPEAKER_04: Like uh, I'm on YouTube now, and I've I like watching fishing stuff on YouTube, but every now and then there's this guy, this ex-sheriff or whatever there, and it's it's all about these, you know, videotaping the cops encountering these lawbreakers and that.
- 2:39SPEAKER_04: And I can't help myself but watch all this shit.
- 2:41SPEAKER_04: Bad boys, bad boys, too.
- 2:43SPEAKER_04: Same thing, cops, yeah, exactly.
- 2:44SPEAKER_04: You like this?
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: You can't you it's very hard to turn it off.
- 2:47SPEAKER_04: How about the uh Karen, they call it a lot of Karen ones.
- 2:50SPEAKER_04: Karen goes berserk and cop and guess what she deserves and shit like that.
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: There was one um that had uh MR, but not MR.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, I I like the Border Patrol ones.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: That one's a good one.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: That's a good one too.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: This one was about wildlife enforcement.
- 3:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, there's a couple of them.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: There's a uh mostly U.S.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: based.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: I think they're all U.S.-based.
- 3:09SPEAKER_04: Um and well, there's the Ontario Ministry does a uh um a little kick on Instagram and stuff like that, but uh the the YouTube ones, yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: There's there's TV shows, literally.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: And it it what a fine collection of Bubas that the criminals usually are in those shows.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: They are typical, I'll tell you.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: If you are going to stereotype, who is going to commit a crime in wildlife and nature?
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: They have collected all of them in the past.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: The whole cast of trailer park boys.
- 3:38SPEAKER_04: We're gonna carry no, don't insult the trailer park boys.
- 3:40SPEAKER_04: Those guys like those guys, they don't, they don't uh boys.
- 3:44SPEAKER_04: They're good boys.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Randy wouldn't appreciate that.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: No, mobile bathing knows how to fish.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: By the way, uh nobody has commented on this beautiful new coffee that I have.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Well, nobody noticed it.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: It doesn't look a good anything done.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: A little shout out to Ashil, Ashilia.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, what?
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, anyways, B A S X Disqualified uh Angler.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Uh whoa, what was that?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: How much?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: That's probably Nick.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Somebody's listening in.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: I think somebody's listening in a bit.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Nobody to know.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you'll know, you know that it's this is a hush-hush story when you hear little things in the background.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Now you gotta keep it in there.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Do you know that you have to keep that in there?
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Uh disqualified angler yumming.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: Yumming?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Yumming.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: Yumming Gao from the upcoming lake.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: You fell a bass master open, which by the time this goes to air, I believe will have taken place.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: Am I correct in that assumption?
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: That's probably just taking place because this happened 30 days prior.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: If you do the math, if you do the math, I'll bet you it will already have been taken place.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Sans Mr.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Gao.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, before we do any of that, because uh hello, Joe Joe just walked through this.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Big hand, uh big round of applause for Joe Gorskowski.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: He just walked through.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: He could use a quaff or two as well.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Have you ever known?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Has Joe ever got a haircut since we've known him, please?
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: Hell yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_04: No, Joe's got long, long hair, and you get it cut, and then you get that much cut off, and it's still long hair.
- 5:15SPEAKER_04: All six of them.
- 5:17unknown: Okay.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: Don't say that.
- 5:18SPEAKER_04: No, he's got lots of hair, Joe.
- 5:21SPEAKER_04: Six of them.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Uh but first, ladies and gentlemen, let's not forget that uh we have some clear out merchandise on uh fishingcanada.com.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: This fishing canada store.
- 5:33SPEAKER_04: I almost hit it.
- 5:34SPEAKER_04: I was wrong here today.
- 5:35SPEAKER_04: We almost hit that.
- 5:36SPEAKER_04: I almost I should have worn the wall.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Oh, look, I I had a choice, too.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, you got rainbow.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, I got rainbow.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: Well, let's go.
- 5:42SPEAKER_04: We're showing everything.
- 5:43SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: Adding this.
- 5:44SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 5:45SPEAKER_04: So there you go.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: By the way, I just noticed the uh bass on that.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: It very much resembles the one that we just rejected for the new.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: You always get the lower lip of the horse there.
- 5:56SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: We uh we got some new, we're reviving all the species hoodies, even the ones that we got.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: And are they uh looking much better?
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: Um well, the ones that just came in were looking a little interesting.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: So the they're our new next rendition of them should be the last ones, I hope.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: I'm excited.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: I'm really forward to it.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: I haven't even seen them and I like them.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: So when are we gonna okay this and get them to print?
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: When is this gonna happen?
- 6:21SPEAKER_04: Like when are we gonna have new stuff out?
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Hopefully very soon.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Although you guys gotta do your work so we can do our work, which is getting rid of the rest of these clothes.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Because we can't do the new ones until old ones.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Let's do that right now.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, there is still a little bit of inventory, not much, so don't be disappointed if you go and your size is gone.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, because from now on, it's gonna be slim pickings in terms of choices of colors and sizes and styles.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: But for you lucky ones who go there uh and happen to hit the uh shin beam, you uh are gonna get some incredible up to 50% off on stuff like this.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: Unheard of.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, but once again, limited sizes, limited colors, limited.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: What's the most popular hoodie size?
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: A large, I would assume.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I before this sale, I was going to say that that a large or an extra large was the most and it's a toss-up between the two.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Now, I don't want I see I can't be saying this.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: No, I take it back.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Yes, large or extra large, yeah.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: So I would have guessed.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Because I was gonna say something that probably mattered.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Although I will say our double XLs are selling like and our four and our four X's are hard to keep it.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Well, honestly, we um we we have some stock that we have here, but a lot of it we also have um elsewhere.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: And so the stuff that I have here is really easy.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: I'm able to just grab it, put it in your box for you guys, and ship it out.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: I don't really keep that many four X's because up until this sale, we didn't really sell that many of them.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Um, you you guys are taking them from me.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, baby.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: I think I've sold more four X's in the last week than I have anything else.
- 8:02SPEAKER_04: Well, the beauty of a hoodie, too, is that you you can wear them big.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's just they're so comfortable.
- 8:06SPEAKER_04: You just big, sloppy, it doesn't matter.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I think you hit around with comfort.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: This is like comfort food.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: What comfort food this is what comfort food is to the apparel industry, is a really nice hoodie with a great hand, they call it.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Great hand means the feel of it.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: This hoodie is one of the nicest wow.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: You come up with the best saying.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: It's called a hand.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: It's called hand.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: It's got a nice hand.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: And and that was from the old textile business because that's that goes way back.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: That's how they measured the quality of their textiles.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: And the size and the height of the horses.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: And well, there was that too.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: And which end of the horse you were talking to.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: That was also important.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Come on, buddy.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Come on, buddy.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: You could do this.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: I know it's we've already gone for a shit show already, so um so, anyways, uh, whatever's left's gotta go before we put the new stuff on sale.
- 9:06SPEAKER_04: Is there gonna be a more than 50 off on this?
- 9:09SPEAKER_04: Like if there's like 20 hoodies left, we're gonna say, hey, 75 off, just take it away.
- 9:13SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Let me put it to you this way when the new stuff comes in, and if you're a regular listener and viewer of this program, and maybe you already own your own collection of these beautiful hand, uh, these beautiful hoodies with great hand.
- 9:29SPEAKER_03: I love it.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Um you will not be disappointed if you were then to purchase uh the new version of it, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with this version of them.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Absolutely nothing wrong.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: In fact, the quality is exactly the same, the stitch count is the same on the on the uh logo on the front.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Um the fit is the same.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: There are some new colors, there will be some new colors, there's no question about that, and there will be some new species, and we've updated the look somewhat, but trust me, if you bought one of these babies at 50% off, and then you looked at the new ones at regular price, you wouldn't say, Oh man, I wish I had waited and paid twice as much for the new one.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: How's that?
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: So get on in there, kiddies, and uh let's get that stuff gone so we can get this over with.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Dickory, dickory.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Two mouse ran up the clock.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there you go.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: Um, that's all happening at uh shop.fishingcanada.com.
- 10:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah, baby.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Uh season 40 is nicely uh airing.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: We're getting all kinds of great comments from folks who are seeing the show, maybe for the first time, and thinking, wow, huh, these guys know their shit, right?
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: They're doing uh they're doing a really good job.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Well, uh only I mean, yeah, we're an overnight success.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: 40 years.
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: 40 years, and there we are.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Finally got it right.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Uh I was thinking about that this morning while I was shaving my ears and other parts of my body.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: With your new haircut there.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Well, because the coff now is exposed areas that I couldn't see before.
- 11:14SPEAKER_04: Ah, okay, I got you.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Did I tell you I got an eardrum uh issue?
- 11:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, I saw it.
- 11:20SPEAKER_04: I I heard all about it.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: It was uh in the uh speaking of ears.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Speaking of ears, yeah, it was on the internet.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: Doesn't surprise me.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Not much I do anymore.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Isn't um uh yes, so where was I?
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: Where was I doing something with your ears and uh no I I was season 40 is now a nice thing.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: I thought, you know, like forty years, forty years of doing the same thing over and over and over again.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like the sign of insanity, right?
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: Doing it over and over, expecting different results.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: But uh 40 years.
- 11:58SPEAKER_04: I think well, I don't know.
- 12:00SPEAKER_04: I'd have to go back to the very first episode, to our very last episode, and see the growth and see the difference, you know what I mean?
- 12:06SPEAKER_04: So my growth, my growth was better back then.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: I had a lot more growth.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, he's awake.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Wow, I had a boy, Dean.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: I had a lot more growth.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: So did you for that matter.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Growth, both had growth all over the place.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Very growth, very growth.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: I was talking to somebody last night at my uh poker club about some of the uh adventures we got into back in the day.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: Oh boy.
- 12:32SPEAKER_04: Told them a couple of And did they like the stories?
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: Just all over the can we tell the can we tell the whole audience in the whole class?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Uh listener feedback, Mr.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: Bowman.
- 12:46SPEAKER_04: Listener feedback in response to our podcast with Sean Trudell of Cabin River Outdoors at he underscore GO324 via YouTube.
- 12:57SPEAKER_04: It's kind of ironic that a fishing show is interviewing Sean.
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: He should invite you to you guys to visit him this summer and you can show him how to fish the river that he's on.
- 13:06SPEAKER_04: We talked about that in the didn't we already do that?
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: No.
- 13:09SPEAKER_04: We talked about it on the podcast with Sean, I think.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: He's saying that Sean can use some help.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: Obviously, uh he Geo is definitely seeing Sean's uh better side of fishing, obviously.
- 13:24SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: That'd be kind of interesting to bring both programs kind of together.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: What do they call that?
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Collaboration collab.
- 13:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Have we ever we've never collabed with anybody, have we, Dean?
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: Jay kinda up at Uncle Mark's, he made a brief appearance.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: You've collaborated with Roland Martin.
- 13:41SPEAKER_02: Whoa, yeah.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: We collaborated before the word collaboration was Canada Rough.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Bobby Orr?
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but well, Bobby didn't have his own show.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: But Bobby's a show.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: True.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: The hockey show.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: But no, I'm saying two brands kind of uh joining forces.
- 13:59SPEAKER_04: We've done a few of them.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: If we think really think hard, we'd have to go through every episode, but there's probably been a couple more.
- 14:04SPEAKER_04: You never know, eh?
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Not in our industry.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, other than, yeah, Roland for sure.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: Um I can't think of any.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: Never did anything with the Lidners, you never did Bill Dance.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: Canada and the Rough, and then I guess.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Well, Canada and the Rough, though.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: See, to me, a collaboration, and I could be wrong, is when you kind of collaborate both ways, right?
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: So in Roland's case, we would do a Roland Martin Fish in Canada episode, and he would do a Roland Martin Fishing with Roland Martin.
- 14:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a crossover, isn't it?
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: I think a crossover is when I think a crossover is what you use for like multiple people.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Like like if uh like with the Simpsons and family guy had a crossover.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: I I think I did watch it.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: I think it exists, I'm pretty sure.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: But but wouldn't it have to be sort of both ways?
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: Where you have the Simpsons appearing on one?
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: It depends on on the contracts, on the legalities.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Anyways, other than Roland, I can't I can't uh think of yeah, that's uh that's a good one.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: If anyone canded on the rough that's a good one.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: Well, no, we've never appeared, we've never appeared on their show.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they guessed it.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: What does that tell you about us though?
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: Maybe we're just not good at the same time.
- 15:28SPEAKER_04: We're nice guys.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: No, it means that we're not very well liked then.
- 15:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, well, that's a given.
- 15:33SPEAKER_04: I think that's been in there.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Because I mean, if you if you extend the invitation one way, shouldn't you get it the other way though?
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Like, shouldn't like it's like saying I love you and then waiting for the I love you back and you don't get it.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: What's what's that called?
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: It's called Pete Bowman response to his wife.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Lisa, Lisa, Lisa.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: Poor girl.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: What did you do?
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: No, but you know what I mean?
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I could be wrong.
- 16:03SPEAKER_04: I don't think uh Well, you know, like in the in the case when we did Canon and the Rough, they said, Okay, now next we gotta get uh you guys on to hunt.
- 16:12SPEAKER_04: Well, the only way it would have been duck, a duck hunting show would have been the only thing because that's all I knew how to do, and you didn't do any hunting.
- 16:17SPEAKER_04: But it doesn't matter.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: I would go on a hunt with them, not necessarily to shoot.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's true.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: I think that'd be even more interesting, actually.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, boy, Beasley boys, you can reach out, you still owe us one.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm just using them.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: You're using them as an example.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: I was just citing reality, and that is that we've never we've done it one way, but it's never sort of gone back, right?
- 16:39SPEAKER_04: That was a fun show.
- 16:40SPEAKER_04: Saskatchewan, largemouth bass, Keith and I.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: That's fun.
- 16:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that was very unique.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: Very unique, very cool.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: All right, uh, well, uh yes, thank you, uh Geo.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: Um maybe we should uh maybe I'd be a very unique Fish in Canada show.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: That would be a cool or YouTube video, whatever, right?
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: It'd be a the logistics might be a little oh, it'd be horrible, bud.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: It'd be horrible.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: It'd be a little bit tough getting back there with gear and all that stuff.
- 17:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we'd and a boat.
- 17:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_04: How the hell the hell do you do that one?
- 17:09SPEAKER_04: He's got a boat, right?
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: You have to use a little boat.
- 17:11SPEAKER_04: I think yeah, he might have access to the boat.
- 17:13SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 17:13SPEAKER_04: That'd be a definitely logistics would be tough.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: She'd be a back to basics episode with no electronics or anything else.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: No trolling motor, no nothing.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Firing a spoon in that current and hanging on.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: That would be a difficult thing to do.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: We should do that.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Actually, that should be an episode somewhere in the very near future where we strip it all back, but not just like we did uh on that episode this year where I gave the boys the big boat and gave you the little boat, because you still had some some tools.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: But I'm saying just strip it back to nothingness, like an empty 12-foot or 14-foot tin boat with a 9-9 on it and have at it.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Have at her.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I don't even think I'd like to participate in something like that, to be honest with you.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: We love our garments.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: I'd rather fish from shore.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: At least I got some sort of boat control.
- 18:09SPEAKER_04: Where's my electronics?
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Well, that almost happened to us at uh Lodge 88 there when I forgot to charge the Garmin overnight.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: And we went out.
- 18:17SPEAKER_04: No, my god, Nick.
- 18:18SPEAKER_04: How dare you?
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: That was fun.
- 18:19SPEAKER_04: How dare you remind us of that?
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: That was fun.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Right, guys.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Not about as much fun as this week's Conservation Corner news.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: Come on, Dean.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: You were on a roll.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Conservation Corner brought to you by Invasive Species Center.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, this week we're gonna talk about yep, grass cart.
- 18:40SPEAKER_05: Wow.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: That's different.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Are you serious?
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Grass cart?
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Even we yes, sir, you are.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I've heard a couple things, and none of the none of it's been.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Well, let me just tell you something.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, this is the year we all need to be on the lookout because uh, yes, for those of you who don't know, uh they are here.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: There's no ifs anymore.
- 19:03SPEAKER_04: That's here in Canada or Ontario, where we're based out of it, by the way.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: Great lakes.
- 19:07SPEAKER_04: Great lakes, yes.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: Great lakes, uh including south, it's south of the border, just Great Lakes in general, right?
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: There's no there's no defining uh wall in the in the middle of Lake Ontario.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: It's Great Lakes, and that's where they have been sighted.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Um I keep saying there's like 34 uh uh fish that have been caught, but you guys keep telling me there's more, so I will go with the more in this case.
- 19:35SPEAKER_04: At least 34.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: There's been at least 34.
- 19:38SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Uh uh not only uh DNA samples, but actual fish, I believe, in this case.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: So what we need to do, this is the the year that we need to be uh on the water, checking it out, and helping uh the uh MR or wildlife management folks uh with detection, location, etc.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: etc.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know what what they can do or we can do at this point in terms of putting a stop to it.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: I mean like that's gonna be a tough thing to stop.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: What's here, uh especially in the Great Lakes, and because the Great Lakes, for the most part, are all flowing into smaller bodies of water uh with good clear access from point A to point B, how long would it take for these fish to start invading some of the smaller systems?
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, those real pristine systems that we value.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: So what we need to do is make sure that we know our stuff.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Uh go to the invasive carp.ca.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Carp.ca.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Download the information in terms of identification and uh keep that with you.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: So when you're on the water this year, you see one of them.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And we are going, I'm sure we are going to see some.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: I'm sure of it.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Um we need to be able to quickly report it and get it looked after.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: We'll freak out, eh?
- 21:05SPEAKER_04: If we see that, we're gonna freak out.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know what I know it.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: We're gonna want to jump in and like uh pull the put the knife in the mouse and go after them.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: Crocodile Dundee on them.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: The news brought to you by JB, your outdoor superstore.
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: The outdoor superstore, your friends in the outdoors, JB Cyclo Marine, Ontario's largest Princecraft Mercury boat, motor, trailer, package guys.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Uh been there uh looking after customers since 1970.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: They're even older than us, for God's sakes.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Damn.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Don't know how that's possible.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Can I tell you the first time I ever uh had anything to do with J M B, I sold them Vespa scooters.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: I told you that.
- 21:53SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: And that would have been in 1970.
- 21:56SPEAKER_04: So they were a Vespa dealer back then?
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Might have been the first one in Canada.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: If I I know we had a big dealer in Calgary.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Uh God, what was his name?
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: We had a dealer in in Vancouver.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: We had a dealer in Calgary.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: A dealer in Vancouver was Pacific Cycle on Hastings Street.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 22:16SPEAKER_04: How the hell do you remember that shit?
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: The dealer in Calgary.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: What a great gentleman.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: Hans was his first name.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: He was uh Hans and Franz.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: German or something along those lines.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: And then we had uh J and B cycle.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: Look at you.
- 22:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 22:32SPEAKER_04: Vespa scooters.
- 22:33SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 22:33SPEAKER_04: How many Vespa scooters you sell in your life?
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: A couple of thousand.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Ooh, nice.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: You guys were good.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: A couple of thousand.
- 22:43SPEAKER_04: That's one thing about you and your bro.
- 22:44SPEAKER_04: They if you were selling it, it was gonna go.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: I wish we had it today.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: I wish we had the North American distribution for it today.
- 22:52SPEAKER_04: Are they popular?
- 22:53SPEAKER_04: I have no idea.
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: Well, it's not popular, it's the gas prices, right?
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, what drove them in Europe was was the price of gas.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: So everybody in European uh communities, I mean, two wheels is the way to go.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: That's why you see all those little scooters all over the place.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: And today at almost two dollars a gallon or more than two dollars a gallon and some uh a liter.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Um can we pull a boat with them scooters?
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Are they that are they pretty strong?
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: We may have to start considering it.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: We could double them up on them or maybe run like a horse uh train of horses.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know what we're gonna do this year.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Scoot's gone.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: I've been complaining about the price of fuel for the last few years because I see the bill at the end of the year from all of our travels.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: And and I I I start hypervalidating, as my wife would say, uh because it's so high.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: And that's when gas was like a buck forty, a buck fifty.
- 23:49SPEAKER_04: But you're one that you don't put regular in anything.
- 23:52SPEAKER_04: I will say that.
- 23:53SPEAKER_04: Well, you can't, you know, you just put the either high test, maybe mid-grade.
- 23:58SPEAKER_04: You'll you'll you'll downgrade to mid-grade.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: I actually downgraded uh yesterday to regular, not quite regular, just the next step up.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: That's a big step for this guy, right now.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: I could not do it.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: I could not push the regular button.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: But I did go down two grades, right?
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: I said, no, I gotta get a bit more good for you.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: And next will be regular.
- 24:19SPEAKER_04: Good for you.
- 24:19SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you're gonna have to.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: I find that whenever I use regular, it burns way faster.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: It's like so much faster.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: It works, right?
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: It's almost ridiculous because with the car I have I have to put a 93.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that sucks.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: And and and you can imagine towing a boat.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, much brutal.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: And the boat has that in it too.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Boat has to have the 93 in it.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: A couple weeks ago there when we went and picked up the new Princecraft, how much gas we got back to the gas station with like 23 kilometers left in the tank.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was good.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: It was a cream.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: We left with like 200 and then it adjusted it to us to um you know compensate for the boat as well.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: And then I was terrified.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: I was like, we're gonna get stuck.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: He goes, No, we're fine, keep driving, keep driving, keep driving.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: I wanted to go all the way, baby.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: God, and we did it.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: We did it.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, so in the news, J and B cycle marine uh brings you today's news story, Mr.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: Bowen.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: And what would that be?
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: The news it says quote, fish city draws attention to fish deaths at Bruce Nuclear Plant.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: That was the um the Earth Day live stream that the the um inspired planet did.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Right with the drone.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: So it got a bunch of attention, and then it seemed to draw a little bit of negative attention too, just because I think it was the first time people realized how many fish congregate at these like the like these outflows.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: So it says fish gathering near the Bruce nuclear uh power station in Lake Huron had been called uh a fish city, but the Sogin Ojibwe Nation says it acts as a fish trap.
- 25:54SPEAKER_04: Oh well, it's a fish attractor for sure, right?
- 25:59SPEAKER_04: Because of this outflow.
- 26:01SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's never been a secret.
- 26:03SPEAKER_04: We all know that, especially in a big body of water like Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, even Lake Erie, but all the Great Lakes, which are very cold, this is a warm water outflow coming from, you know, they cool the generators off in these big power plants.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Is there one is there there's gotta be uh on superior, there's gotta be some assuming charges.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: Can you imagine those?
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because superior is so cold.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we should uh maybe that's a pattern.
- 26:27SPEAKER_04: We should look into that.
- 26:28SPEAKER_04: Oh, it's a well, I'll tell you, if we fish the Great Lakes and we're looking for it, I mean we fished you and I have fished pickering how many times?
- 26:34SPEAKER_04: Oh my god.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: So and that's a relatively warm water, freshwater uh lake compared to superior.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: So you can imagine superior with a two or three degree.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's more than that, but I'm just saying, but even two or three degrees?
- 26:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:50SPEAKER_04: Whoa.
- 26:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 26:51SPEAKER_04: Up to five million gizzard shad died in the 2020 in 2025 after entering the plant system and clogging cooling water intakes, forcing the shutdown of Bruce A.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: Unit 2.
- 27:01SPEAKER_04: So that's that's huge.
- 27:02SPEAKER_04: That's shutting down the whole unit.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: I thought they were managing that.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: I thought I read articles years ago.
- 27:08SPEAKER_04: There's been so many years of screen.
- 27:10SPEAKER_04: I've seen them, the screens that they have put in there and these intakes and all that stuff.
- 27:13SPEAKER_04: And uh, but apparently, I guess with this intake, it's coming in so strong, and with that many, you know, how many five million gizzards?
- 27:20SPEAKER_04: So so probably thousands upon thousands at one time.
- 27:23SPEAKER_04: Gizzard shatter big in Lake Ontario, anyways.
- 27:26SPEAKER_04: Maybe Lake Huron, I'm sure I'm assuming is the same.
- 27:28SPEAKER_04: It sucks, there's a lot of pressure to suck it in.
- 27:30SPEAKER_04: So they have to they've um they put nets and stuff like that.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: And now since then already, I mean, as soon as they hear about this stuff, they start.
- 27:38SPEAKER_04: One thing about OPG or used to be formerly Ontario Hydro, I have to say they don't like negative news.
- 27:44SPEAKER_04: And they don't like negative news, and they do try their best to make nature because they know right now, okay, we've cut a great big channel in the in the world here now, and it's now shooting into this lake that never used to be there before.
- 27:56SPEAKER_04: So we've we've done some changes in that and they they know that they have to, you know, work with nature and work with the people and see if uh they can do something about it.
- 28:05SPEAKER_00: So very good at that.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming that this number of five million is based on a small sampling and then multiplying it by whether it's the the density, whatever it's gotta be.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Okay, you can obviously not counting five million.
- 28:21SPEAKER_00: So we don't we can't even dispute at this point whether it was like maybe a million or maybe fifteen million.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: Who really we don't know.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Right, right?
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: But at five million, at five million, that's gotta be at the level where there's gotta be some impact on that resource.
- 28:43SPEAKER_00: You would think five million.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: If you kill five million of anything, I don't care what it is, you've gotta think that at least temporarily that's caused a blip in that product, right?
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: In this case, uh Gizzard Chad, which are a valuable food source for something out there.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: We don't I mean I I say that sort of tongue in cheek, but five million of those that's a lot of food for something.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: I wonder if anybody has done a study and maybe this the percentage of that compared to the population.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, we've been talking in Lake Ontario, we've been talking about the decline in food base for oh god, thirty years now.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: Thirty years we've been saying that the food source for the salmon steelhead trout um is on a decline, the shelves are getting empty, the cupboards are bare, and therefore let's stop introducing more predators because we don't have enough prey to feed them.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: But I've never heard of any story saying, hey, by the way, uh at our six nuclear plants, you know, on Lake Ontario, we estimate that we kill about oh 50 million gizzard shad a year.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: We're always I certainly I did, and I still do.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Say, well, yeah, you yeah, you've got more predators than you have prey, therefore it makes sense eventually that that we're gonna deplete the food source for those fish.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: But I never thought that there was something else that might be depleting them until I saw this.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: Because five million is a big number.
- 30:29SPEAKER_04: It's gotta be a big dent in the population, you would think.
- 30:32SPEAKER_04: You know, I mean, like how many ale wife are in Lake Ontario?
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: Well, I don't know.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: Is there is it would there be a billion?
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: There used to be a big number.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it would be today.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: Still pretty high, I think.
- 30:43SPEAKER_04: You see them in the every spring we see them in Whitby Harbor dead.
- 30:46SPEAKER_04: They come in and they and they're Remember Smelt?
- 30:49SPEAKER_04: How many smelts?
- 30:50SPEAKER_04: Oh, there's one that's been devastated.
- 30:52SPEAKER_04: That's one that somehow, I guess the salmon must have done it, did it, I would think.
- 30:56SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure, right?
- 30:57SPEAKER_04: Is that the biggest uh predator of I mean that's what humans we took our smelt, but we didn't do anything like that.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: Take a couple of bushels anyway, not even you know, a drop of water in the ocean, really big old dip net full and you're gonna you're done.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: God, they were delicious, eh?
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: Oh, shit.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: I could eat me a bucket full right now.
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: With beer.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: You had to batter them up and you have them and you and you eat them with beer.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: Oh my gosh.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Or you have battered beer, beer batter.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Beer batter, yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:24SPEAKER_04: Uh anyways.
- 31:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_04: So the First Nations say that warm water discharges like this attract fish and can trap them in the intake system, obviously.
- 31:32SPEAKER_04: So they're they have a concern too.
- 31:33SPEAKER_04: The Bruce Nuclear Power uh responsibility citing high fish numbers and harsh winter conditions.
- 31:40SPEAKER_04: So that's the I don't know what that means.
- 31:41SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 31:49SPEAKER_04: It was uh a thing.
- 31:50SPEAKER_04: There's several lake sturgeon, a species at Rick risk, became stranded in a four-bay pond.
- 31:56SPEAKER_04: Uh one was rescued and three remain.
- 31:58SPEAKER_04: So they haven't died, but they are trapped, I guess, in a four-bay pond.
- 32:02SPEAKER_04: I mean, they make these these big ponds, too, that sort of hold the water before it comes in, sort of sort of thing.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: So at least the use of the that would be to try and mitigate some of the deaths?
- 32:13SPEAKER_04: No, I don't know.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: No, there would have been a reason that it's probably I don't know what maybe it it's it's all blocked compared to open water shoreline water smashing in and all that stuff.
- 32:23SPEAKER_04: So it's kind of like a uh basically a big holding area for the water, right?
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: But it would make sense to to use that to stop some of these fish from getting sucked into the intakes, right?
- 32:34SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: If you if you bring them in to Well, no, the intakes are in those.
- 32:37SPEAKER_04: I think the intakes are in there.
- 32:38SPEAKER_04: Oh the intakes are on the inside of that, like the what you call the north side of it or whatever.
- 32:44SPEAKER_04: But there was there was one I worked at Wesleyville, Wesleville uh plant, and it never it never came to fruition.
- 32:50SPEAKER_04: It was not a generating station, never never worked out.
- 32:52SPEAKER_04: So they did everything else.
- 32:54SPEAKER_04: They did it for uh maintenance for all other equipment for other plants, and it they did everything in that in that place.
- 33:01SPEAKER_04: Um they had in the little pond, they blocked off the pond because it wasn't being used as an intake anymore for any reason, and a local fish hatchery stocked that pond with rainbow trout, and it was unbelievable.
- 33:18SPEAKER_04: I had to sneak in a couple mornings before work, and I went down there, I fired a little cast out there.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: Holy shit, buddy.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I swear to God, if that a rainbow that big would have been a small one.
- 33:27SPEAKER_04: It was they were just like they were tanks in there.
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh my god, but that's what that my four bay pond is uh story.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: Is but how many days do you think you slept when you were on that job?
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I didn't sleep much.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: I heard about your little hammock in the corner.
- 33:41SPEAKER_04: You don't have a hammock in it.
- 33:42SPEAKER_04: You had a hammock.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: You had a hammock way up in the please.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Up but well, somewhere there, you told me, didn't you?
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: No hammock.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, maybe wire.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: Used to sleep on it by the roll of wire or something.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Roll of wire.
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: Had something to do with wire, I'm not sure.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: Thank you, Dean.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: Well, there was some sleeping going on in cable pan, if that's what you mean.
- 34:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe that was a tray.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Anyways, uh interesting story.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: If you want to get the whole story, uh go to fishingcanada.com where our very own, our talented, the lovely Dean Taylor has taken the time to produce a quality uh piece of literature for you to read.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: A good little documentary, though, wouldn't I?
- 34:22SPEAKER_04: Wouldn't it?
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: Wouldn't it be a good one?
- 34:23SPEAKER_04: That'd be a good story, uh, the video.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: Okie doke, faint question of the week submitted by at Nigel JCL via YouTube.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: This is a contender, our first contender in a few weeks.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: Hey!
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: A contender, you said a real contender and the boys are talking about giving stuff away.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: We're already giving stuff away.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is no big deal.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Nigel, you already win, I think.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, but oh, go ahead.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Uh Nigel says this year we've had record high water levels around the Sudbury area and a late year for recent years, uh, of ice, uh, which makes me wonder how this will affect the spawn for walleyce.
- 35:05SPEAKER_00: Good, good uh reason to question that.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Uh, also the unpopular opinion should our open season change with weather, I know May 2-4 is a staple, but dot dot dot.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: If I've been spewing this for so many years now, I'm almost tired of saying it.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: I think that our system is totally wrong because although they have sections, especially the province of Ontario is sectioned off uh when it comes to not just fish, but wildlife management.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: And they do a pretty good job of that.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: And those sections, those, those, those markings on the map are based on all kinds of things, not the least of which is the terrain itself and and the type of climate that or subclimate that that terrain has versus the section next to it.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: But I have always maintained that there should be, aside from that, which I think is good, there should also be the unwritten rule that in the event that we have one of those strange winters, MR and any other wildlife management enforcement team uh should be able to say, okay, guys, here's the deal.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: I know that uh next month or next week is supposed to be the opening of, but due to our changing climate, our uh I don't I don't know what you know what else you can blame it on, whatever, whatever it is, we this year are going to move that uh two weeks down the road.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: And it's all for the protection of wildlife.
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: And in most cases, this is to be considered fish spawning season.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: It is weather driven, not totally, not totally, and I don't know what the percentage would be.
- 37:06SPEAKER_00: I obviously photo photosynthesis has a lot to do with it, but the temperature of the water, we know for a fact, just from our own personal experience, will trigger fish to move.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: They might be on the edge of their spawning cycle, but all of a sudden a dip in the weather overnight and poof, or up or down, they're in, right?
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: So I think uh for me, it would be wonderful.
- 37:30SPEAKER_00: I don't know how you'd manage it, I don't know how you would enforce it, I don't know any of the above.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: And you know what would be the toughest part is when do you make that call?
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: A week two weeks.
- 37:41SPEAKER_04: You know, that you'd have to be, it'd have to be a week, and you'd have to say, okay, imagine the the the issues though, but this is government.
- 37:48SPEAKER_04: Holy shit, you can't they can't wipe their arse in there without having to go through this and that red tape.
- 37:53SPEAKER_04: No, but that's what I say.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: If you put this in place already, it's not something that you know they're gonna have to have a big committee meeting saying, hey, do you think it in place so that next year or next week?
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: No, this is uh already in place.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: We have given them that mandate.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: We the public have said, yes, we agree, you're good to go.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: If the weather changes by whatever that percentage is, uh and you have up to a week before the opening to postpone it.
- 38:22SPEAKER_04: Ongoing and ongoing, just just in case.
- 38:24SPEAKER_04: Then uh yeah, that would work out.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: And then we as anglers have to be responsible to help the enforcement part.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: You've got to abide by the law, too.
- 38:31SPEAKER_04: Otherwise, you're breaking the law, right?
- 38:32SPEAKER_04: So think about it that way.
- 38:34SPEAKER_04: Now, as far as high waters are concerned, though, I don't see that as really as a detriment on some lakes because now they have yeah, now they have uh spawning areas and somebody's got a gravel thing out in front of their cottage, there's all kinds of rock that has been weeded up every year and it's all silty in the water.
- 38:51SPEAKER_04: Now, with another foot and a half of water, they could go up there at nighttime, drop their eggs real quick.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: It has been proven uh several times that the only time that water level will affect walleye spawn is when it drops.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:05SPEAKER_00: And then it has a drastic effect.
- 39:07SPEAKER_00: But when it's on the upflow upflow, it's nothing but good.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: For all open species, right?
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: It opens up that much that's that more, much more spawning area.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: So um with this water level, I'm not overly concerned.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: Temperatures would be to me the more concern at this point because of the insane winter.
- 39:27SPEAKER_04: Right here, I've been on Bay Aquini, and it opened last weekend, and uh it is well past the spawning numbers, right?
- 39:34SPEAKER_04: Uh, the you know, the temperatures, even Lake Ontario and all that stuff is as uh as of opening walleye, the water was over 50 degrees, they spawn at like 44 or something like that.
- 39:43SPEAKER_04: So they were they were definitely done.
- 39:44SPEAKER_04: Pike were without a doubt done already and all that.
- 39:47SPEAKER_04: But up north like that in Sudbury, if that wall, you know, that ice stays there forever in the bush, the snow is still running off and all that kind of stuff.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: It could be an issue for them to spawn up there.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: So that is a pretty good question.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: I hope we've done a little bit of justice in uh answering it for uh Nigel.
- 40:06SPEAKER_00: Nigel JCL, congratulations! Come on down, buddy.
- 40:12SPEAKER_00: You just Nigel.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: 50 buckaroos to the store.
- 40:19SPEAKER_04: So and all that stuff is on sale.
- 40:22SPEAKER_04: 50 off.
- 40:22SPEAKER_04: I bet you he can get a hoodie for that.
- 40:24SPEAKER_04: He might not have to pull a game.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: Dude, Nigel, well done, buddy.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, next we'll be paying him to go shopping.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: Obviously.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: That's the only logical conclusion.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: What else would you do?
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Nigel.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: All right, congratulations.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: Uh Nigel JCL via YouTube.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: Now, what do we do at this point?
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: We we reach out to him.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: Does he get approved?
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so Nigel, I need you to uh send me a message on our Instagram or Facebook, just showing that you're you and that you left the comment, like signed into your YouTube account or whatever.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then I will provide you with a coupon code.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: And then once you have the code, you can go shopping.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: But what if he hasn't seen this episode?
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Well, then Nigel misses out.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, so that's a part of a prerequisite on this deal, then you gotta be listening.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: Oh, gotta keep coming back.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: If you leave a comment, it'd be very smart for you to come back and listen to another episode or two in the future.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: See, I did not know that.
- 41:23SPEAKER_00: But that's that's brilliant.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Whoever came up with that, was that the producer or was that the store manager?
- 41:27SPEAKER_00: It was the adjunct store manager.
- 41:29SPEAKER_04: But if Nigel comes back six months from now when all the new gear is in and all the sales gone.
- 41:34SPEAKER_01: There's no expiry day as far as I'm concerned.
- 41:36SPEAKER_04: Okay, Nigel, keep that in mind, buddy.
- 41:38SPEAKER_04: Oh, so you can get a hoodie, like you could get it really a hoodie for free, basically, if you order it now.
- 41:42SPEAKER_04: But if you wanted to wait to get the really, really, really good stuff, new stuff, you can get a half out of that almost pretty much, too.
- 41:47SPEAKER_04: Pretty much.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Pretty much with 50 bucks you could, yeah.
- 41:49SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Oh wow, what a place.
- 41:51SPEAKER_04: He'd be looking good.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: He'd be looking good lord.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: You're like Santa Claus, buddy.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: It's the North Pole.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: This is the North Pole.
- 41:58SPEAKER_00: It's unbelievable.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: Ho ho ho to you too.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: Uh okay, enough of the uh frolicking around with the little items.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, time to move on to the big news.

- 43:03SPEAKER_00: The big news of the day, as far as we're concerned, anyways, and I say that because we're kind of questioning the lack of information available on this story from uh people like uh Bassmaster or Bass, uh, because they kind of have treated this like okay, all right, all right, all right, okay, all right, here it is.
- 43:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, and let's move on.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: There's nothing to see.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: Move along, folks.
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: There's nothing to see here.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: And although I might initially understand that they don't want to draw any attention to this, I know we had a bit of a debate before we went to push the record button today as to what might have motivated them to take that approach.
- 43:44SPEAKER_00: But at the end of the day, it's I'm of the opinion of remember we had the disclaimer at the beginning of the show.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Uh just remember that that's a disclaimer saying that everything you hear from this point on is just an opinion from.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Either or all of us here on the show.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: We all have opinions on this story.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: And it's just our opinion.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: So no lawsuits, please.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: I deplore lawsuits.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: And we heard this from all other sources.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, no kidding.
- 44:16SPEAKER_04: We heard this from all other sources, too.
- 44:17SPEAKER_04: Obviously, we don't have lawyers in here, cops and investigators looking into this stuff.
- 44:21SPEAKER_04: We just hear it through news like we're doing right now, right?
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: Speaking of cops, Matt just uh walked through the studio and Matt's dad was a cop.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: I thought you were gonna say Matt's going through to be a cop, and I don't know.
- 44:30SPEAKER_00: Why the hell he stopped here?
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Well, he might have wanted to criminals wanted to work in the you know the underbelly of the society to get used to that element, maybe.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: Uh but sorry to interrupt you.
- 44:44SPEAKER_04: Oh, official press release BASS, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society, disqualified angler Yumming Yumming Gao from uh from the upcoming League who follow up Bassmaster Open.
- 44:55SPEAKER_04: So this is one of the open tournaments, which is the tier down from the elites.
- 44:58SPEAKER_04: The elites are the top of the food chain.
- 45:01SPEAKER_04: The opens are big tournaments.
- 45:03SPEAKER_04: There's a a huge amount of people that want to get into the opens, try to get into the opens.
- 45:08SPEAKER_04: It's a it's a big deal.
- 45:09SPEAKER_04: So and that's your next stage to the elites.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: So of particular interest to us uh on this story is that Mr.
- 45:16SPEAKER_00: Gao is a Canadian citizen, I believe.
- 45:19SPEAKER_02: I believe he's Canadian.
- 45:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, at least he was fishing the CSFL events.
- 45:23SPEAKER_02: Uh so he was fishing in Ontario for Okay, so he might not be a Canadian citizen.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: He might not be.
- 45:29SPEAKER_04: We're assuming that.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: So again, I read, I believe it's Waterloo that he is uh from Waterloo, Ontario.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: Not necessarily a Canadian resident, right?
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: No, I guess not.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: No.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: But, anyways, he he resides in Canada.
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Resides in Canada.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: So we assume that he is a Canadian, but uh to be determined, I guess.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: Um But once again, before we get into the nuts and bolts of this, I want to go back to what we started the segment uh with was this personally, once again, my opinion.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: I'm surprised that BASS.
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: They are all about they're very anal about the rules and regulations of their association.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: And they should be.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: They were the first, they were the granddaddies of all professional tournament angling in the world, in the world, right?
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: They started it all, and their code of ethics is like a Bible.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, they they it's like an old country club that's been around for 200 years and very strict uh codes of conduct, and uh under normal conditions, certainly in the past when there's been a violation of any of those codes, they've taken the upper uh road and they've wanted to demonstrate to not just their members, their compet the competitors, but you know, the world at large that this is a very serious business, and the fishing of bass on a professional level is not to be toyed with.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: You get that right.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: Prize money alone is crazy, right?
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: And they've always never been afraid to let people know about that because, in their opinion, and you know, Forrest would obviously uh Ray Scott Ray Scott, sorry.
- 47:18SPEAKER_00: Forrest was the other force behind this thing because he built the boats for them.
- 47:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, they were you know always very proud of the fact that not everybody can fish their tournaments, it takes a certain somebody to fish their tournaments, and they're like soldiers, right?
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: The competitors, they're they're very singularly minded and very focused on upholding uh all of this wonderful history behind the events.
- 47:47SPEAKER_00: And uh so when there was ever a violation or you know, anything, even sort of offside a little bit, they were very quick to tell the world about it and they took action.
- 47:58SPEAKER_00: In this case, I'm really maybe disappointed this word because they're kind of hoping that it'll just go away.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there wasn't a lot written on it.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: It did for the most part, honestly.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Like we're but by the time people are hearing this, it it's almost a month old, and there's nothing out there.
- 48:15SPEAKER_02: There's a few podcasts that have talked about it.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: Um the the Canadian scene hasn't picked it up at all, which is surprising because he's he fished up here for quite a while.
- 48:23SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so obviously he's got something to do with Canada.
- 48:26SPEAKER_04: I I discovered this by listening to a bass podcast, not even thinking about that.
- 48:31SPEAKER_04: And he said, Oh, by the way, we got just like us, they got a news story here, and they started saying this, and I'm thinking, what the hell?
- 48:36SPEAKER_04: You know, this is this was an American podcast.
- 48:38SPEAKER_04: Yes, it's called Bass Talk Live.
- 48:40SPEAKER_04: It's a very good pod, highly recommend it, it's a very good podcast.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: Uh they they do it on a daily basis.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: So there's it's imagine that it's the ideas.
- 48:48SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, no.
- 48:49SPEAKER_04: That's uh this is this guy's job, so and they do a great job.
- 48:52SPEAKER_04: But uh, but me every now and then they come into a story like this.
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: They don't often do this kind of stuff, but uh, this was one I just heard.
- 48:59SPEAKER_04: I thought, wait a minute, what is I told Dean about it?
- 49:01SPEAKER_04: I said, What the hell?
- 49:02SPEAKER_04: Have you heard anything about this?
- 49:03SPEAKER_04: Nobody had heard about it.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: And of course, the connection for us is that the perpetrator was Canadian or is Canadian or at least lives in Canada, and that's the part that we're mostly concerned about, the point where we reached out to a very high-profile Canadian uh tournament organizer in this country, and you know, we wanted to get his opinion on this and what they thought, and uh he wasn't even aware that it had taken place.
- 49:26SPEAKER_00: So that's how much this has sort of been kept on the down low, and I'm concerned about that, and that's why I wanted to talk about it.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: I'm very concerned that Bass is taking this approach.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: Now, it is brilliant, which is why I think they're not.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: It's brilliant.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the perpetrator did a like a great job.
- 49:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he could have done a better job and they would have got away with it, right?
- 49:51SPEAKER_04: That's the problem.
- 49:52SPEAKER_04: That's the maybe that's why Bass is doing that.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Well, okay, but then you can't put it out at all because you know there's gonna be some people that read this and say, hey, yeah, why didn't I think of that?
- 50:01SPEAKER_04: There's gonna be well, think about how if you read that uh Bass uh news or what do you call it?
- 50:09SPEAKER_04: Um press release.
- 50:11SPEAKER_04: Press release.
- 50:12SPEAKER_04: They don't say much about what happened there.
- 50:14SPEAKER_04: No, they that the only reason we found out about it is through this podcast that that uh this Mac Matt Pangrak he went and interviewed another person involved in this, and he got the story from that person.
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: So um And that's because BASS possibly doesn't want this getting out, didn't want it's too a little late.
- 50:31SPEAKER_00: It's just weird that they didn't put any details to it.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know normally they detail it right down to the last penny so that they and the reason they would do that is they want everybody to know hey, we are on top of this.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, so don't try it.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: We know exactly speaking of lovely and talented the the countess of Sandestesh just walked through the set.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: People don't realize our set is open, and and as people just come in and out, we don't even know who's gonna attack.
- 50:56SPEAKER_04: Well, we built the set right in the main area.
- 50:58SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's true.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: We kind of interrupted it's like putting a dam on a small stream and then expecting the fish to figure out how to get around the obstruction.
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: What the hell is it?
- 51:06SPEAKER_04: Okay, well, yeah.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: That's what we did here, so we're guilty of that.
- 51:10SPEAKER_00: And so every once in a while we'll just say, Oh, so-and-so is walking through.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Well, they didn't have any other way of getting around us.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: So I think Bass was hoping that it would just come and go and not open anybody's eyes to what now we're also let's throw this disclaimer out.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: What we're about to tell you now is all based on a couple of um pieces of information that we've been able to gather here over the last year.
- 51:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we've compiled it, and they're all like third-hand sources, kind of, because there you go.
- 51:41SPEAKER_02: It's uh it's articles from people who are close-ish to the event, it's podcasts who had access to people involved, but there's no official sources, like no charges being laid where you can go and say, Okay, they've been charged with this.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: There's nothing like that out right now.
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: Which is that again is weird.
- 52:00SPEAKER_00: And it's weird because we also have since found out that if what we've discovered is true, once again, if we don't know that for a fact, this would be a federal offense.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: This is not just a little regional little, oh well, he was fooling around with it.
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: Oh, no big deal.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: This is a federal offense because um one of the elements in this was putting a tracking device on somebody without them knowing, which is, I understand, is a federal offense.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, it is a value, so it better be.
- 52:36SPEAKER_00: You cannot do that.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so that's the part that's kind of weird about it.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: So, what we're going to tell you, we don't know if it's factual.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: We just know from the limited amount of information that that was available, this is how the story goes.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, who would like to?
- 52:53SPEAKER_00: Anyone would like to?
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: I think we should start with the official press release.
- 52:56SPEAKER_02: So, this is what has been reported.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: Um, I think you guys have that in front of you there.
- 53:01SPEAKER_00: So uh Bassmaster announced this week the permanent ban of an angler for violating the Bassmaster code of conduct that I alluded to earlier on.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: Very strong code.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: They've never well, anyways.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: According to a brief report posted, a brief report posted to Bassmaster.com on Tuesday, the organization disqualified Yoming uh Gao.
- 53:26SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, you pronounce that right, uh, from this week's Lake Eufala Bassmaster Open.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: Uh now, when this uh podcast goes up, it might be after, but uh close enough.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: Uh Ufala Bassmaster Open.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: After it was determined, Mr.
- 53:41SPEAKER_00: Gao tried to track the movements of a fellow competitor in order to gain a competitive advantage.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: So that's the federal offense that I'm talking about.
- 53:52SPEAKER_00: Because it's illegal to put a tracking device on anybody without their knowledge, as far as we know, uh on a federal level, except if you're obviously an enforcement agency who do that on a regular basis, and for the that's their way of tracking the bad guy.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: Uh Bassmaster ruled that Mr.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Gow's infraction was a level four offense.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: Don't know what that means.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: The report stated the ruling was appealed, but later upheld by a three-person appeals committee consisting of two independent anglers and a BASS staff member.
- 54:26SPEAKER_00: So they were trying to cover their butts there for sure, uh, by putting together a committee to have a final ruling on it.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: Uh as a result, Mr.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: Gao has been banned from participating in all future BASS events, effective immediately, the report stated.
- 54:43SPEAKER_00: According to the Bassmaster Angler database, Mr.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Gao has competed in one previous tournament, the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes Bassmaster Open, earlier this year.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: He finished 164th.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: So clearly, uh, if he was cheating in that one, it didn't do him a whole lot of things.
- 54:59SPEAKER_03: It didn't work out too well.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, and it appears that Mr.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: Gao, who lists Waterloo, Ontario as his home, uh, has not competed in any major fishing events previously.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: So he came out of nowhere, fished one event, and then got caught cheating in the next one.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:17SPEAKER_00: The second one.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: Uh a video posted to the YouTube account, uh Yumming Gao, Chris.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: Uh he goes by Chris.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: He goes by Chris, okay.
- 55:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, in late December of 20 uh 25, appears to tout his attempt to pursue a fishing career.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: The 92-second video is entirely in Chinese, uh, but the title translates to at long last, Chinese footprint footprints have appeared here.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: And Bassmaster is mentioned toward the end of the video.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: A Google translation of the subtitles during the video is as follows.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: Uh this could be AI for all we know, too, right?
- 56:01SPEAKER_00: But it says it's a direct translation of what was on the video.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, what others see as a competition, but what I see is ten years of practice.
- 56:12SPEAKER_04: So does that mean he's been losing 10 years of our tournaments and now he's got to there?
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe, or does it mean 10 years of trying to figure out how to scan the system?
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: Because it could be that too, right?
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: Uh once again, that's my opinion.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: Uh the cold wind at four in the morning, countless failures.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: Dreams are never a distant light.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: It is what happens after you persist every day in the darkness, a glimmer of hope lit by oneself.
- 56:41SPEAKER_00: This is not my destination.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: This is truly the beginning of my dream.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: If I could do it, every person who fights for their dream can do it as well.
- 56:52SPEAKER_00: I am Gao Yum Yuming Bassmaster, the only Chinese contestant.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: So that's a direct translation from that video that has since been removed.
- 57:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's taking it down, right?
- 57:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:06SPEAKER_04: I'm assuming uh the only way you get a video take is taking your own video down, right, Dean?
- 57:10SPEAKER_02: Is that uh YouTube can remove videos as well.
- 57:12SPEAKER_02: Oh in this case I wouldn't see why they would.
- 57:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: So what he actually did was to appear that tournament was April 1st, by the way.
- 57:24SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: So we're we're well behind the uh as usual.
- 57:28SPEAKER_00: That's okay.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: We like bringing up the rear as a word.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: We just heard about it.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: The complete story from us.
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: Uh so the way the story, the way we've been able to piece it together is that a female who was connected to Mr.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Gao employed the services of not only a local guide on that body of water, but also one of the top competitors that was going to be in the tournament.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: And she paid him to take her.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: Now, this guide does not know who she is as far as he's concerned.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: This is uh a Chinese tourist.
- 58:15SPEAKER_04: She's a guest.
- 58:15SPEAKER_04: Apparently, her she said her boyfriend was at a convention.
- 58:18SPEAKER_04: So she he uh she has something to do.
- 58:20SPEAKER_00: So and so she wanted to go bass fishing, and so uh she uh hired him to take him out, her out to some of his bass fishing areas, saying that she was a bass fishing fanatic and uh wanted to find out where the big fish were on that lake.
- 58:37SPEAKER_00: And the guide doing his job at that point uh did exactly that.
- 58:42SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Took her out for the day and uh they caught a bunch of fish and he did notice that she was uh making some weird comments and weird requests and taking a lot of pictures of the surrounding landscape from these fish holding areas and noting GPS coordinates and it was a whole bunch of stuff that started him thinking, hmm, something doesn't quite smell right.
- 59:13SPEAKER_00: But at that point he still had no idea what it was, and really it wasn't until the end of the day when uh he dropped her off on shore that he noticed that she was picked up by a vehicle that was toying a bass boat.
- 59:29SPEAKER_02: I think it had like the sponsored truck and all like the whole thing, like you know how the tournament guys have the whole it's all logoed up and everything.
- 59:36SPEAKER_02: I think that the whole thing.
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: That makes it even more if it was just a bass boat, it's bad enough.
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: But he still hadn't put two and two together, and he um had she was already committed for the next day to go out and do more of the same.
- 59:52SPEAKER_00: And so he did.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: And she acted just as weird as she did the day before, detailing the entire day and documenting all the coordinates and taking photographs of the shoreline and all kinds of stuff, temperature, wind conditions, like she was really in terms of just uh a guided guest, she was really uh into all the pertinent little details of the event, which is pretty unusual.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_00: A guide usually, as soon as you start asking him stuff, him or her, asking him stuff that you know is very particular to this body of water and location of the places that he or she is sharing with you, they start getting a little suspicious because not because they think that that person is in any way uh involved with the bass tournament coming up or cheating on that, but because they're very protective of their areas, right?
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_00: That they take the because it's their livelihood.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_00: Yep, they have to protect those areas.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_00: So he was starting to get that weird feeling, and at the end of the day, sure as hell, that woman was picked up by the same buddy, bass boat buddy.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: And I think that's when Dean, that's when things started going uh downhill on this whole event.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so I guess when I think it mostly went downhill.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: I think at this point he's still just kind of skeptical and confused, probably, of what's going on.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_02: I think you're probably right.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_02: He's probably more thinking this is somebody who might come out the next day and not have to hire me.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_00: Like that's m that's more what happens with or or that or that this could be a competitor of his, another guide, yeah, you know, that's maybe new to the area, trying to fast track uh his his uh uh areas, right?
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_02: So I doubt the tournament thing was like heavy on his mind at that time.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_02: But I guess so.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_02: When he got home, when he was cleaning out his boat or in his house or whatever, he got a notification on his iPhone saying that um an unrecognized air tag has been following you.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: And if anyone has an iPhone and has used air tags, you kind of know what this is about because if you have an air tag in, like in our case, a camera bag or something like that.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_02: Well when it's been behind you, like if it's been in the back of your truck for like an hour, you'll get notifications saying that like somebody could be tracking you.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_02: Um it gets annoying.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: It does get annoying.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_02: So I guess he searched the boat, he couldn't find it.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_02: Eventually he finds it tucked behind a seat wrapped in tinfoil.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_02: And apparently, tin foil is not just to hide it, it's actually supposed to block the Bluetooth signal that would transmit to a nearby cell phone because so I guess the air tag it distributes data through satellite, so it doesn't need Bluetooth for that.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_02: I know where this went wrong, but the aluminum is supposed to block out the Bluetooth so that the guy wouldn't have got this notification.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_00: I'll guarantee you I know what went wrong.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: Wow, this makes sense because tin foil has two sides to it.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_00: There's a shiny side and there's a dull side.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: One is designed to repel, whether it's heat or signal in this case, and the other one is designed to maintain.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: And I'll bet you he had the shiny side in.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_00: They wrapped it wrong.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: They wrapped it wrong.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: That's a because I've heard I've read this and heard this before that if you do wrap one of these transmitters or receivers, both, in tinfoil, it will repel that signal coming in that's trying to detect it.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: See, and to me, this is why Bass didn't release it, because this is a tech, this is we're like we're writing a textbook on cheating.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, that's true.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_04: So holy mackerel.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_04: So if that's wrapped in the tinfoil wrong, let's just say, would Buddy have been able to track them?
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_04: Like you still wouldn't be able to, no problem.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_02: It's going by the satellite.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_02: You just put the wrong side out.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_00: It's like when you're baking a turkey and you want to, you know, that last hour you want to kind of uh uh or the before the last hour where you take the wrapping off.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: You know, you wanna you want to get that bird at the right temperature.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: Well, if you put the shiny side out, okay, you're repelling the heat.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you gotta put the shiny side in, have the dull side out to have full penetration of heat.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_00: Well, this is what he's done.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_00: He's put the shiny oh my god.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_00: If this is the case, because this was brilliant, and I can understand Bass being concerned, if this is what happened, because think of it, if Buddy was not able to detect that he had this button in his boat, this air tag in his boat, it probably would have gone away, right?
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_00: Nothing would have shown it.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but he made that one tiny little error of not understanding which side of the foil to have out.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_04: So you think now, do you think this when it was she she if she planted it, it makes more sense if she planted it the very first morning as soon as she got in there, because that way Mr.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_04: Gow getting this information would have all the the hot spots from that guy today.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_04: After that, though, like if she'd have put it in at the end of the day, what would what would has the guy can't pre-fish for 30 days?
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_04: So it makes it make sense that he she had to put it in right on the phone.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_04: Immediately.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_04: Immediately look at that bird over there going.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_04: What's that?
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_04: Blue heron?
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_00: You know a bunch about birds?
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_00: That's exactly what happened, right?
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_00: First day, and so while she's out with Buddy, and then whenever they stop, Buddy's watching us.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: Mr.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: Gow is watching it all unfold.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_04: For 25 30 minutes, I'm gonna mark that.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_04: Holy shit.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_04: This episode is brought to you by Angler's Leaderboard and its photo measure feature.

- 1:06:08SPEAKER_04: Learn more at Englishleaderboard.com.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so this information's all from Bass Talk Live.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: They apparently had a source pretty close to the event or like pretty close to the incident.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_02: Uh they didn't want to be named or anything, but this is all from Bass Talk Live.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: So if you want a detailed story, they do have it.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_02: It's a great, it's a great story.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_02: But so what happened next, I guess, which I didn't actually know until I read this, I guess air tags are trackable, so trackable back to the owner, but only by the last four digits of their number, like of their phone number.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: Um so they were able to track this back.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_02: Well, hang on, D.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_00: Hang on, hang on, hang on.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_00: So when you buy one of these air tags, yeah, you have to give somebody your phone number?
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_02: Uh so when we got them, I registered them.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_02: We registered them to a couple of phone numbers in the office here so that if it goes missing, we can all so you have to register them.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: You can't just go to Toys R Us and buy a bag of Trenton.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_02: No, I just I didn't know.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_02: So yeah, so track go back to the last four digits of your phone number.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_02: So this is another place that he could have avoided getting caught, I think.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_02: So I guess the guy eventually narrowed it down.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_02: So he called Bassmaster to just ask if there's if this m phone number would happen to match anybody.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_02: And it did.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_02: It was Gao's phone number.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, but the he could have registered it to the girl's number.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_02: Another mistake.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: And then it wouldn't have even shown up on the Bass register list.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: Because he didn't know that that there's this last four-number thing with the tracker.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_02: So another one, another place he could have probably got it.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_04: Could you work with a burner phone work with that?
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, for sure, yeah.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: And why do they need why do you need a phone number anyways?
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_02: Because you have to track through your iPhone.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_02: So you have to hook it up to the iPhone that's going to be receiving the data.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_00: Which could have been a burner.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_00: If he was really intelligent, that would have been a burner, right?
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_01: That's difficult still to do because you have to get a whole phone plan and stuff.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, if he was really that committed to cheating, I'm sure he could have.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: But I'm also pretty sure there's just non-Apple products.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_01: Well, there's that too.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_01: That won't send a signal back.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_01: You know, like I I hate how easy it is for this to become something common.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_01: So uh make sure you guys, you know, keep your boats locked up.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: Don't uh don't leave any compartments open.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_00: Didn't we inadvertently do that uh on an event a couple years ago?
- 1:08:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_00: We left, didn't we leave a tracker in some boat?
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we did.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_04: We got denied of a tracker too.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_04: Chonger.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_04: You didn't want to know you guys, you guys, you guys get that shit out of here.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_00: The reason we know so much about tracking devices is we uh covered an event a couple of years ago um where we it was important for us to know where some of the competitors were going to be fishing because we have we had received from them authorization to bring cameras into that area.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_00: And in fact, uh most of them uh brought us onto their boat to be able to share.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_00: They were great.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: Uh and shout out to Baba Zumi, who was one of those great competitors who, you know, yeah was so cooperative.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_04: The whole nine yards.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_00: But um, so yeah, now in retrospect, I'm thinking of all that uh that how easy it would have been for us just to drop them in the box.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_04: To track a boat, yeah.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: So easy.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: And we could track them real easily.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_00: That was oh my god.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_04: We were we we had radios, we had our two boats going, and so the one over here, go over there.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_01: The one problem with the air tags is that I believe they need something else near them in order to ping.
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_01: So if your phone is off or whatever, it won't be able to send it, needs other signals, it's not like a self-sustained system to send out information because I do remember when we were doing that Pan American Black Ass Championship.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: Yes, um, it was a problem when I was trying to find some of the guys and they were in dead zones, as in their phone had no cell service because that means we had no track on them.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_01: We could just see where their last location was, right?
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_00: And we'd go through areas where we couldn't uh pick them up for an hour or so.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_04: So the fishing guide here must have had an iPhone then, uh obviously to get this and that work with his iPhone, and he got him gave him the notifications and wow.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_00: Wow the perfect storm, huh?
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, perfect storm.
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_04: So I guess just the end of the story.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_04: Sorry, yeah.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_04: If he would have had an Android, the guide, they would have got away with it then, no?
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if it's a Apple Development.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_04: Would that AirTag work on a you know what I mean?
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_04: On that, because I am not sure.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_04: He would not get any notifications, obviously, but if would an air tag work from that far away, huh?
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_00: By the way, I just want to remind folks, uh, we are speculating at this point.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, this is spitballing, believe me.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_00: Spitballing only.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_00: Go ahead, D.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_02: So the end of the story, just to kind of wrap things up.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_02: So according to Bass Talk, um, they called um the angler and he denied it originally.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_02: He said, I don't know the woman, I have nothing to do with this.
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_02: Then they found a little bit more evidence, and he the next day they called him again and he admitted it, but he's he said, I know the the the woman, but she did this all on her own accord.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_02: I had nothing to do with this.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_02: It was her, and she will confirm my story.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_02: She actually did confirm the story that hey, this was all my fault, he had nothing to do with it, but then she disappeared back to China.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: Oh vacation.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so I think taking her new bass knowledge, she's bringing her to China now.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_04: You're gonna try it out on those lakes over there.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_02: So she corroborated the story.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_02: She did confirm that he had nothing to do with it.
- 1:11:47SPEAKER_02: So he's I mean, again, this is heavily speculation.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_02: Is he in the clear?
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_02: Like, other than with Bass.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_00: Well, they'd have to find her because if she's the only witness that knows the truth here, let's be honest, right?
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_00: They they can't take his word for it.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_00: Like any other that's why there's no criminal charges.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_01: That's exactly why there's no criminal charges, because they can't prove he did anything beyond the reasonable doubt.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_00: They may be trying to find her, right?
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_00: As we speak, they may be trying to find her whereabouts because she's the only one.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, I I would argue I would argue that there's there are enough circumstances here, but it's all circumstantial to indict him, anyways.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_00: But maybe they do need a witness in that jurisdiction.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_01: You have to have I I disagree with any ability to indict him or find him guilty on anything because he wasn't there.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_01: And that's the problem.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: You can't prove he did anything.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_01: If you actually look at how this happened, he did nothing.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_04: You get a good lawyer, he can put that pull that stream.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: He really did do nothing.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_01: Now, if let's say that they found the tag during the tournament and he was following the guy, and then yeah, that totally gives them grounds to do something.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_01: Hang on.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_01: But without him doing anything, hang on, he did nothing.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_00: Was that phone number traceable to him?
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_01: What all the phone numbers are traceable back to yours.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_01: If I took a tag on someone, the owner of the air tag.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_02: So essentially he could say she took the took my air tag.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_02: And put her, yeah.
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:13:15SPEAKER_01: If I took your air tag and planted it on someone and got in trouble for it, I'd say, Well, it's not my air tag, it's his go to that guy.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:13:22unknown: Wow.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: It um this is crazy.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_01: This is a movie waiting for the movie.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_01: Almost had it done perfectly.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: It's like that close having the like the perfect heist for insider bass turtle.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_00: Well, think about it.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_00: If this hadn't gone through, if all of the stars and planets had been aligned for Mr.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_00: Gal, he could be out on his boat during the tournament, technically, seeing where the competitor was catching fish.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_00: And because he had prior knowledge of those locations already, he would know what the best spots were.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_00: Let's say that let's say that and I don't know this to be a fact, once again we're spitballing.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_00: Let's say that over the course of two days, he had been able to track and and register 24 spots where the uh guide took this unknown woman fishing over those two days.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_00: And like any other spots that anglers have got, some of them pan out, some of them don't, depending on on weather conditions and all the other things.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_00: You've got out of those 24, you'll have your top four or five spots that you're definitely going to go to first and try and get a bag of fish into your boat, right?
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_00: Before you waste time.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_00: Of course.
- 1:14:37SPEAKER_00: Well, Mr.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_00: God would have had all this information available to him.
- 1:14:42SPEAKER_04: He drives he drives around that tournament and sees the buddy over that spot.
- 1:14:46SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'll just go to the next one downstairs.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:14:49unknown: Wow.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_00: Wow, wow, wow, wow.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_00: What's disturbing about this, though, for whatever reasons, and now we may have just kind of told ourselves what the reasons were, you know, lack of evidence and not enough information.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_00: I'm sure they have to tread very lightly on this in order to stay out of litigation with Mr.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_00: Gao, that you know, may or may not go in in favor of BASS, but it is disturbing that um Yeah, that's true, because he could not be found guilty of anything.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_02: I think Bass might even not be able to suspend him.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_00: But but they did they did suspend him, they did put out a press release, they did mention his name.
- 1:15:35SPEAKER_01: I think they they have a little more leeway because it's like a private event, right?
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_01: Um and I I didn't recall in the BASS uh press release what part of their code and conduct he violated specifically.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_01: Like they might have a whole code book and he did violate one of these things, but again, it's hard to it's all speculative.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_01: Like we really don't know.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_00: No, we don't.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_00: They have a very strict uh you can't hire the services of a guide.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_00: It's always been that way.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_00: That's fishing or is from that body of water.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_00: Um I don't know.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_04: I'm assuming the opens are the same as the elites.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, for sure.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_04: The elites have all that.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_04: There's no there's no communication rule, right?
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_04: There's all that no no communication rule.
- 1:16:19SPEAKER_02: I wonder if this is gonna scare some pro anglers away from guiding.
- 1:16:24SPEAKER_02: It's too bad because that's such a good source of income when you're not on the road.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_02: A lot of them do it, but a lot of them are probably putting themselves out there doing it.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_00: Well, that's the advantage of doing well in these tournaments.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_00: Let's be honest about it.
- 1:16:36SPEAKER_00: You know, uh if you're if you're always in the top ten on that body of water in in these tournaments, uh it's they're gonna be lined up looking to hire your services.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_00: That's how Roland, uh most of Roland's income in the early days was from that on Okeechobee, because he had Okeechobee, like he it was his.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_00: And uh if you weren't fishing with Roland Martin, you weren't fishing.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_00: Wow, what a fascinating story.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_00: Oh, hope we haven't bored you to death, but for us it was uh there were so many doors that were not opened during the press release, and subsequently, nobody other than this uh podcaster um saw fit to even mention it.
- 1:17:23SPEAKER_00: It's almost like everybody else just said no, I don't want to I don't want to play around with that.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_04: And even A Dean, you listened to it as well after I told you about even uh Matt at the podcaster there, even he was very cautious as to what he said.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_02: He said he left out more than half the story exactly because he said it.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_02: Wow, and he he so his exact words were I left out the good parts.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_02: So who knows what happened.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, oh my god, better than what we've got?
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we got a parking lot.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_00: Can we get him on the show?
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_00: Will he come on the show and talk to you?
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_02: We should actually get him on it.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_00: Reach out, buddy.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm in it.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_00: I I would love to have him on.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_00: Uh he, you know, he doesn't have to divulge anything that he doesn't want to, but I'd like to get a little closer to the story.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_00: He obviously knows something we don't, and I'd like to see we can't get a little closer to this.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_02: I I just think it's uh it's uh we're not we're not you know it shows you how like you know when we because we've been covering tournament cheating stories for forever and you've been covering them for oh man like like a like on audience the salmon ones, but how advanced it's getting and how it's becoming if you do it properly, kind of easy to get away with.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_02: Like there almost needs to be more monitoring because it's getting pretty advanced.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know how you can monitor it.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_00: No, it's listen, that's like saying, Yeah, we gotta figure out how to get better, I don't know, systems in the banks so that people don't try and break in and steal money, right?
- 1:18:58SPEAKER_00: There's always going every every time you you up the ante uh as far as surveillance and or prevention, the bad guys figure out.
- 1:19:08SPEAKER_02: It's just you almost gotta think like anytime there's like an outlier event, like somebody comes out of nowhere and wins, you gotta think like maybe there was something going on.
- 1:19:17SPEAKER_00: I will tell you it's horrible to think that way, too.
- 1:19:21SPEAKER_00: I know I hate that.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_00: I will tell you from my own personal experiences that some of the most sensational stories in my 30 some odd years of covering cheaters and cheating and fishing tournaments.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_00: There's also another side to it that we often sort of push away, bury it because we don't want to hear it.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_00: You know, this is a crime and it's punishable by whatever.
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_00: And we don't want to hear the other side, and that is the human side, the emotional side, the side that we don't have to agree with it.
- 1:20:00SPEAKER_00: We certainly don't have to agree with it, but you gotta listen to it because I in a few occasions uh having had that available to me, and one in particular, you know, on an open mic, confess pre-trial, confess to the offense, and telling the audience why, what compelled him to do it.
- 1:20:26SPEAKER_00: It's I found that fascinating, absolutely fascinating.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_00: We have that audio, we can plug it in if we want.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_04: Oh now, how do you know that person's telling the truth?
- 1:20:35SPEAKER_04: It could give you a whole line of bullshit because he's got charged for this, and now I gotta make an excuse up.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_00: I gotta make sure you know there were two occasions where to me this really took place, and in one occasion I came away with that feeling, and the other occasion I knew that this person was being completely open and genuine as to what motivated him to do this.
- 1:21:01SPEAKER_00: And I mean he almost had me in tears.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_00: He almost had me in tears because I I it it it involved family members, and you know, he did it for the family members, and and um yeah, but still you're you're cheating, you're stealing, you're murdering, you're doing whatever for these people.
- 1:21:24SPEAKER_04: They all have these excuses because their life is so screwed up and uh bad.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_04: But holy shit, man, you made that you did the crime.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I know you gotta pay.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_00: I know, I agree.
- 1:21:33SPEAKER_00: Just saying that sometimes the backstory is even more sensational than the main story.
- 1:21:40SPEAKER_00: And crime is crime and it's wrong no matter what the circumstances, but sometimes you get sucked in there, buddy.
- 1:21:47SPEAKER_00: I'm just saying.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_00: Anyways, that's it.
- 1:21:50SPEAKER_00: I think we've blown our wad on this one.
- 1:21:53SPEAKER_01: Uh if you have a why'd you have to use that as a terminology?
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_01: You could have just let them know.
- 1:22:00SPEAKER_04: You could have just let that go.
- 1:22:03SPEAKER_01: That's just nasty.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, if you have any questions about what we just uh laid on you, by all means reach out.
- 1:22:11SPEAKER_04: Reach out to Bastalk Live, Matt.
- 1:22:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he'll tell you.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'd love to have him on the show, man.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_00: Love to.
- 1:22:19SPEAKER_00: And uh on that note, I will bid you all adieu on behalf of the entire team.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_00: Uh, Nikki V, uh Dean T, um Bowrod.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_00: I mean, see, I'm the only one who gets the full name.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_04: That's the Bowrod.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_04: I like that.
- 1:22:37SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, that's it, folks.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, talk to you next time.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_00: Take care.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_00: This episode of Outdoor Journal Radio has been brought to you in part by the Invasive Species Center, protecting Canada's land and water from invasive species.
