- 0:39SPEAKER_04: Welcome in, everybody, to the Talk and Tech Podcast powered by Guns Up Nation, part of the Guns Up Nation Podcast Network.
- 0:45SPEAKER_04: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez, my co-host, Tristan McGonagall.
- 0:48SPEAKER_04: Tristan, how you doing today, man?
- 0:50SPEAKER_03: Dude, unlike this cold front coming in right now, I'm feeling as hot as our Red Raiders are on the hardwood courts, my man.
- 1:00SPEAKER_04: Yes, we are coming off a um, I I think the proper term is slaughter of the Oklahoma Sooners.
- 1:08SPEAKER_04: Uh just an absolute ass beating.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Unlike I've ever seen before amongst the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- 1:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, we really we really took that that man handling we got that humbling we received in Norman and really just kind of threw it right back in their face tenfold.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: It was it was pretty brutal to watch.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: You almost felt sorry for them, but but not really.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: It was stupid at one point.
- 1:29SPEAKER_04: It was yeah, the score at one point was 62 to 29 at one point.
- 1:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was just stupid.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: And then Oklahoma ended up going on like a 13-4 run at the end to you know make it not look as bad, but they still lost by 24.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, it's this is kind of one of those cases where you know the score doesn't really reflect the way the game went, even though the score reflects the slaughter.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, in the second half, OU wasn't scoring at all for like 10 minutes or something ridiculous.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: They were stuck at 29 for God knows how long, and they finally kind of scraped together some runs.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: You know, we put it, we took our foot off the gas a little bit defensively, and you know, we put in our guys that don't see the court nearly as much, and to get them some playing time in the situation that you should then.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: But man, just that is some pristine Mark Adams basketball with the way the defense was.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: I know our our offense was a ton of fun to watch, but we held this this OU team to below 30 points at halftime, freaking ridiculous!
- 2:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 2:29SPEAKER_04: It was a uh the these last two games, and we'll get to UT, we'll get to our whole experience over there in Austin uh here in a bit.
- 2:36SPEAKER_04: But uh these last two games have been a ridiculous defensive performance from Texas Tech.
- 2:40SPEAKER_04: I mean, we held OU as a team to 37 shooting, I think we held UT as a team to 28 shooting the whole game.
- 2:48SPEAKER_04: This defense is elite.
- 2:49SPEAKER_04: Uh, this is not a surprise uh by to anyone that's been watching this team all year, but it's still just ridiculous.
- 2:56SPEAKER_04: I uh every this is like the peak of what we thought Texas Tech defense would be this year with all the pieces that we have.
- 3:04SPEAKER_04: We got Kevin McCullough back for this game.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, uh the length, the athleticism, everything is coming together at the right time.
- 3:12SPEAKER_03: I was about to say, I mean, this is the perfect time of the year for all of this to really be fired off on all gears, uh, because we're about to head into obviously the most important part of the season, which is actually the postseason, uh, which we get to look forward to here.
- 3:25SPEAKER_03: Um, and you know, it was kind of also kind of fun with with OU.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: Yes, the obviously our defense was was locked down, but that was a circus on our offense.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: We were flying high, we were passing awesomely, and it was just fun to watch.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: You know, it really felt like we scored way more than 66 on them with the way our offense was playing against OU.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, in the first half, uh, you know, things weren't flowing that well, and then the second half, we kind of got it all together.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: Adams made some great adjustments.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, and it's just it's just a different guy every other game.
- 3:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, you look at this game, Davion Warren.
- 3:54SPEAKER_04: This was the Davion Warren game, went for 16 and 4.
- 3:57SPEAKER_04: This game, uh, really, the the one guy that's been the most consistent is Bryson Williams in Big 12 play.
- 4:02SPEAKER_04: We all know that, but then you know, it could be Adonis Arms, it could be Davion Warren, it could be Terrence Shannon, it could be McCullough, it could be O'Banner.
- 4:10SPEAKER_04: Like we have so many guys that can step up on the offensive end.
- 4:14SPEAKER_04: And while they're not as consistent as maybe we'd like them to be, at least one guy is stepping up every single game.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, and it again, just a fun thing to start sitting our home crowd on.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, you want to give your home crowd a show, and boy, did they prompt star home crowd, as always, packed to the brim, so loud, I can hear every single chant ever so clearly.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Some things that we definitely cannot repeat on this family-friendly podcast, which is something they like to see.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: It's that's what's fun about the student sections.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: So, once again, man, our home court advantage.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: I think we are we are this close to pulling off the going completely undefeated at home, which would just be an amazing feat for Mark Adams year one, and just an attestment to our our home crowd and Lubbock, Texas, and Red Raider Nation.
- 5:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, it's it's funny looking on Twitter and seeing different fan bases and how they're reacting.
- 5:04SPEAKER_04: Like, when did Texas Tech get all these fans?
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Like, when did this happen?
- 5:08SPEAKER_04: And everybody's now looking at us as a premier uh environment for college basketball.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: And I don't know how you couldn't look at look at what we've done in both the UT games, when Baylors come to town, when Kansas come down, even when crappy OU has come to town, and just our the students that show up, the people that show up, the sellouts.
- 5:27SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's it's ridiculous.
- 5:29SPEAKER_04: We've talked about it time and time again.
- 5:30SPEAKER_04: It's it's stupid what this fan base has done this season.
- 5:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the respect is off the charts.
- 5:35SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll stick here in the Big 12 conference.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: You know, anytime people are talking about tough crowds to go to, people the upper tier, people say you don't want to go to Lawrence, you don't go, you don't want to go to Lubbock right now.
- 5:44SPEAKER_03: And I mean, talk about good company to be in.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: I mean, those fans are excellent up in up in Kansas Shayhawk territory, but they have a lot of reasons to be that supportive, you know.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: It we're we Texas Tech, we're not exactly the super storied program, but once you give this this fan base a a winning culture, we will embrace it, we will back you up, and we will prompt you up.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: You know, we have we have really, I mean, you could look at any school in the world.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: You mostly, if you look at our history, we don't have any excuse to have a family like this, but boy, do we, and I love seeing it.
- 6:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's been great.
- 6:16SPEAKER_04: Um, so we absolutely kicked OU's butt.
- 6:18SPEAKER_04: We win this one 66 to 42.
- 6:21SPEAKER_04: Um, but we also won an a couple more big games as of uh as of late.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about UT.
- 6:27SPEAKER_04: Let's talk about our trip.
- 6:29SPEAKER_04: Uh, because we were there, we were there in Austin uh for the uh great game that was Texas Tech taking down UT in their house, which we made our own on that lovely Saturday.
- 6:41SPEAKER_04: Uh Tristan, let's talk about let's talk about the experience because it was a great time.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, satellite campus there in Austin, Texas.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: It was good, it's always good to see the the Texas Tech campuses.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: You know, I'm not a huge fan of the one in Austin personally, you know, it's not it doesn't nearly reflect what we got over in Lubbock, but you know, it's always good to see the local schools.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: But man, you're you're right.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: It all started in the morning.
- 7:02SPEAKER_03: Uh the energy could be felt all around the campus, not necessarily towards the orange guys.
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, where we showed up to that that one bar, the name's missing me or Schultz, Schultz Beer Garden, Scholz, yes, and golly, just you could definitely feel Austin take over as soon as you walked in there.
- 7:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, I loved it.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: Only bad part about it was it took an hour to get a lone star.
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: But boy, was it worth it to be amongst the the crowd and be amongst our people and uh just a blast just before we even tipped off.
- 7:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, we got word on Friday where the people were gonna be on both Friday night and Saturday.
- 7:36SPEAKER_04: We couldn't make it down to Austin on Friday, but uh Saturday we we got up early and uh headed down there from Georgetown where you guys live, and um immediately, you know, we walk into this place and there it's just a wave of red and black.
- 7:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, most of the people were wearing red because they heard the red out stuff and everything like that, but uh you could you could count on your hand how many UT people were there at that bar, and even walking from the Uber to the bar, you just see waves of Red Raider fans walking into the to the flann that is the Frank Irwin Center, and we're just like, Oh my god, like this is I I don't know about you, I wasn't expecting a 50-50 crowd.
- 8:17SPEAKER_04: I thought they kind of got in early on the ticket thing, and uh they made you know they made it to where not a lot of tech fans were gonna get into this game, but I was wrong.
- 8:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was 50-50 in that stadium.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: Hey, I think I called it right, sir.
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: I said in the general crowd, it's gonna be 50-50, and it was, and like you said, walking up, that's when you can really tell the kind of uh uh disparity that it's gonna be inside.
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: And then once we got to our seats, you could we we sat up in the upper deck, of course.
- 8:44SPEAKER_03: Usually, you know, if you're a visiting fan, that's usually where you have to go if you don't want to pay your arm off.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: And whenever you're up there, you could just see it was almost all red raiders upstairs.
- 8:53SPEAKER_03: Uh, the only the only thing that wasn't the red raiders were definitely this this the sliver that they dedicated to the students that they could find to put them in.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: Um, but other than that, it was it was all red raiders upstairs.
- 9:05SPEAKER_03: That's probably where most of the noise came from that you could hear on the television.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: Um, because if it looked like, oh, I mean, yeah, there's a lot of red raiders there, but it's still a lot of orange.
- 9:13SPEAKER_03: Nah, if you could see a full camera view of the whole arena upstairs was a sea of red.
- 9:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I I think it was probably lower level, it was probably 70-30 UT fans, but upper level, it was probably 70-30 Texas Tech fans.
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, it was it was seriously, it was ridiculous.
- 9:28SPEAKER_04: There was red everywhere in that upper level.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: And uh, when we first got in to the Frank Irwin Center, and we go to our seats, and we had five of them.
- 9:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, it was you, me, our buddy Clay, my dad, and my sister.
- 9:40SPEAKER_04: And we're going in, and who's in our seats, but you know, some Texas fans.
- 9:44SPEAKER_04: And I couldn't tell if they were students or not.
- 9:47SPEAKER_04: They acted like they had some tickets, and I was I like I went up to them and I was I'm nice, I'm not gonna like blow up on them or anything.
- 9:53SPEAKER_04: I'm like Stephen and Haley popped him in the mouth.
- 9:56SPEAKER_04: We started we started multiple fights in the arena.
- 10:00SPEAKER_04: No, but um, I was like, Hey, you know, or you we have these seats right here, or do y'all have tickets or whatever?
- 10:06SPEAKER_04: And they were like, uh and I was like, here's here's my phone, here's our seats, and so they got out.
- 10:11SPEAKER_04: And that you know, that was a great start to the game kicking out some UT fans.
- 10:15SPEAKER_04: It really was.
- 10:16SPEAKER_04: It just feels good.
- 10:17SPEAKER_03: It got it got it, it got our Twitter peeps involved too.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: That you that one really blew up.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: Always love seeing y'all in the Twitter sphere, uh, backing us up, and that was a really funny way to kick uh get it going because it was an omen as well.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: Because we we uh eventually kicked all their fans out.
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's one of the best parts about winning on the road is watching the home crowd leave early whenever all hope is gone, because it wasn't it, yeah, it came down to the final minutes, but you could tell in the last two that it was over, like you see it was done, and the UT fans saw this, and so they're starting to bundle out by the end it was just nothing but Red Raider fans.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: So it was kind of an omen that we were gonna kick all of them out of their seats, yeah.
- 10:52SPEAKER_04: And it was loud in the arena.
- 10:54SPEAKER_04: I didn't know how it came across on the game, uh, the broadcast.
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: And so when I did go back and re-watch it, it really was that loud.
- 11:01SPEAKER_04: I mean, that air ball chant after Andrew Jones missed that three-pointer was awesome.
- 11:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, when when old boy Brock Cunningham missed those free throws at the end of the game, the screams you could hear it, it was deafening.
- 11:13SPEAKER_04: I mean, I don't know how I would feel if I'm a player playing at my home arena and I'm getting defense chance, I'm getting air ball chance, I'm getting you stink chance.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Like it's it was awesome.
- 11:25SPEAKER_04: The the Red Raider fans are awesome.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: It was it really was because we really filled in everywhere a fan is supposed to cheer.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: The UT fans got loud whenever they scored, like they had a big they had a big three or a dunk, wherever you know, things fans are easy to get excited about, but they weren't they weren't doing a defense chant every single time like we were, you know, and they weren't getting pumped about the little stuff, you know, about poking balls for you and all that.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: But we we were hyped the whole time, we were out of our seats.
- 11:50SPEAKER_03: Um, but you know, it but our boys did a great job of keeping the UT fans out of it, you know, because I mean it's not like they weren't there, that's for sure.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, so it's it was a good time, man.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: And I I had a blast, and shoot, I know all y'all did watching.
- 12:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 12:05SPEAKER_04: Um, the game was the game was good, it was tight for most of it.
- 12:08SPEAKER_04: Um, tech kind of took a big lead, and UT had a comeback, and then tech finished them off there at the end.
- 12:14SPEAKER_04: But uh the Longhorns uh they didn't score a point from the uh 301 mark of the first half to the 1439 mark of the second half, they went almost nine minutes of game time without scoring a single point, and that's not even like not even no free throws, no anything.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: They didn't score, they were sitting there, I think, at 28 for nine minutes almost.
- 12:37SPEAKER_04: And that's I mean, for I I know they don't have a great offense, but to hold any team, uh top 20 team to no points in nine whole minutes of game time is is ridiculous.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: I mean, even more impressive over you think about how we locked down this infamy, if infamously explosive Chris Beard offense.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: You know, they know how to score.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Chris Beard, he knows how to score, he knows how to put in the ball in the hoop.
- 13:03SPEAKER_03: But no, I mean, obviously, uh, I'm joking, of course.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: But um, UT obviously has insane athletes.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: You know, these guys can ball, and our boys did a great job locking them down.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: And it really felt like it's kind of what another kind of felt like it was another one of those situations where UT was art, I don't want to say artificially, but they're artificially inflating their score with the three-point shot.
- 13:22SPEAKER_03: You know, it's definitely something that keeps a lot of teams in it a lot.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: And UT did it did a pretty good job of putting it in from a distance, at least at the beginning.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: So I'm glad to see that you know we were able to lock it down and be able to play our game because it really did feel like we were able to play our game the whole time, you know, work it on the inside, grind about on defense.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, that's you can't out Mark Adams on our Mark Adams team, and Chris Beard tries to do it, you can't.
- 13:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, just looking at you you look at some of these players the UT has and what they averaged last year versus what they're averaging this year.
- 13:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, Marcus Carr was averaging almost 20 points a game in Minnesota last year.
- 13:55SPEAKER_04: He had no points in this game.
- 13:57SPEAKER_04: Timmy Allen in two games against Texas Tech this year, who is their leading score, who's UT's leading scorer this year, Timmy Allen, uh in two games, averaging five and a half points a game, three and a half rebounds a game, half an assist a game, shooting 33, uh, and three and a half fouls a game.
- 14:16SPEAKER_04: So I I mean, it's stupid what we're doing to lock down their best players.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: Marcus Carr had a good first game against us to be held scoreless.
- 14:24SPEAKER_04: This guy is a good player.
- 14:26SPEAKER_04: I mean, we completely shut him down.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it it that's really what put us away here.
- 14:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, and the only guy that really really showed up was uh Andrew Jones.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, that guy, that guy had a game uh where he can't get around it.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: He kept them in it for most for the most part.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: But you're right, dude.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: Like the way we were able to lock down all their other players to no score or barely anything, just is just a testament to the way we came in with a game plan and succeeded with it.
- 14:53SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 14:54SPEAKER_04: I mean, uh uh Raimi started off pretty good.
- 14:56SPEAKER_04: I think he made three of four to start off, missed his last seven shots, ended up three of eleven.
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: So we made our adjustments.
- 15:03SPEAKER_04: Even Jones, Jones was hot early, but second half, he didn't hit much.
- 15:06SPEAKER_04: I mean, he hit a couple, but uh, and then I mean February made a couple threes, but other than that, man, Christian Bishop Bishop, three points.
- 15:15SPEAKER_04: Uh D Sue, two points, Askew, no points.
- 15:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, Timmy holding Timmy Allen to six points.
- 15:21SPEAKER_04: This is this is a guy who went off in that Kansas game for like 27 or something like that.
- 15:26SPEAKER_04: So uh it just again, testament to our defense and how how good we are in shutting down this team.
- 15:34SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, we were bragging about it in the stands.
- 15:36SPEAKER_04: We were like, oh man, that's a Chris Beard offense, huh?
- 15:38SPEAKER_04: Every time they missed a shot.
- 15:40SPEAKER_04: So he's great.
- 15:41SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, man.
- 15:42SPEAKER_04: No, no, Avery Benson.
- 15:43SPEAKER_04: No Avery Benson show out there.
- 15:46SPEAKER_04: No Avery Benson, not this time for old Beard.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: He was just there at the end of the game to uh shout some profanities to some of the uh Texas Tech fans that were heckling.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: Requesting some inappropriate actions to be done to him.
- 15:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, yeah, a little a little S my D action there from uh from Avery Benson.
- 16:04SPEAKER_04: Classy UT.
- 16:06SPEAKER_04: Classy.
- 16:08SPEAKER_04: You know what they say about UT?
- 16:09SPEAKER_04: They're classy.
- 16:11SPEAKER_04: God, I hate that so much.
- 16:13SPEAKER_04: Um Texas now, this is a stat that I thought was really cool.
- 16:17SPEAKER_04: Texas Tech transfers.
- 16:19SPEAKER_04: Uh, so guys that were not on Texas Tech's team last year um scored 35 points in this game.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Texas transfers, guys that were not on Texas's team last year scored 11 points.
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: So when you look at that stat, you're thinking the guys that Mark Adams got to Texas Tech versus the guys that Chris Beard got to Texas were better and outscored them and were way better, in my opinion.
- 16:44SPEAKER_04: And that's what you're seeing.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: You're seeing guys Bryson Williams, Kevin O'Banner, uh Donis Arms, these guys were better pickups and have been coached up better than Beard's guys in uh in Timmy Allen and Marcus Carr and Bishop and all those guys.
- 17:01SPEAKER_03: And that should give Texas Tech fans a lot of hope going forward.
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, we obviously we have a coach that can identify what he needs on the team and identify who he can turn into a great Mark Sat Mark Adams player.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, Bryson Williams is clearly the best example of that because I think we can start having a conversation that he's the best player of the team, and which is which is uh like a 180, not really a 180.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: From I remember whenever we first go and went into the Big 12 season, we were like, we were asking more from uh Bryson Williams, and he has he's delivered, he's the most consistent player on the team.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: He's an athletic freak, he has a high IQ, he does everything you need him to do.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: I it's it's just it's incredible to see what our transfers have brought to the program, and it gets me excited about looking forward to the future about the transfers we're gonna bring in.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: The high school recruits he i uh mark adams identifies.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: We upgraded, guys.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: Like we we we upgraded in player evaluation, and that's just a great thing to see.
- 17:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, we were back to Bryson Williams.
- 17:55SPEAKER_04: You you mean your brother were having a conversation.
- 17:57SPEAKER_04: What I mean, what number is Bryson Williams in the Big 12?
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: Is he the second, third, fourth best player?
- 18:03SPEAKER_04: He's the second best player in the Big 12 right now, behind Agbaji at Kansas.
- 18:07SPEAKER_04: I mean, some would argue Akin Joe at Baylor, but I Bryson Williams is right there.
- 18:12SPEAKER_04: He deserves to be all first team Big 12, no doubt.
- 18:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, he's gonna be the Big 12 newcomer of the year.
- 18:18SPEAKER_04: He has been so consistent in all these games.
- 18:20SPEAKER_04: He put 17 and six in this Texas game.
- 18:23SPEAKER_04: Uh, he's unstoppable when we get the ball to him down low.
- 18:27SPEAKER_04: Um, he had that massive dunk over Marcus Carr that just got the whole building erupting in the second half.
- 18:33SPEAKER_04: Uh, he's been he's been a godsend.
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: He really has been.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: And it's not just him.
- 18:37SPEAKER_03: Obviously, Adonis Arms had a fantastic game as well.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: And Kevin O'Byanner making impacts where it's not necessarily on the scoreboard.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, six points is obviously solid to get out of a guy, but man, it's just the way he's able to spread himself out across the game.
- 18:51SPEAKER_04: But see, and what and what and not to cut you off, but no, you're good.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: O'Banner made what was I I thought was the most clutch moment in the game after UT goes and goes on their run at the end there to get within one point.
- 19:05SPEAKER_04: Adonis Arms uh puts up a floater to try to get us back.
- 19:09SPEAKER_04: The momentum is all in UT's way, their crowds kind of back into it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_04: O'Banner gets the offensive rebound and gets fouled, knocks down two free throws, put us up by three.
- 19:17SPEAKER_04: That was such a big moment because we really needed a bucket right there.
- 19:21SPEAKER_04: And I mean, for him to, he's just doing his thing.
- 19:24SPEAKER_04: He's rebounding, he's he's doing stuff when his three-pointer's not going down.
- 19:28SPEAKER_04: He goes and does other things, and that's what we've said about Kevin O'Banner all this year.
- 19:32SPEAKER_04: And then, of course, he has his games like against Baylor and against Texas the first time where he's hitting four or five three-pointers in the game.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: But um, you know, for him to make that play in a crucial moment, uh, was massive.
- 19:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's a great point, man, because we were up by like 10 points uh and we thought that we were ready to put this away.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: And UT started clawing their way back into it.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: Uh, and the our free throw game in clutch moments has been awesome this season.
- 19:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's what it seems like during the the you know, the bulk of the game, it's it's kind of you pull your hair out, but it was a solid outing for the line today.
- 20:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, the that day, and just to be able to knock down those free points at pinnacle pine uh pinnacle times is just a great point.
- 20:10SPEAKER_03: So good good eye on that.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: I think I absolutely agree with that.
- 20:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 20:13SPEAKER_04: And it's and it's it's stupid that we haven't talked about Clarence Nedolny.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: Clarence the Dolney was like outside of transfers, are really, you know.
- 20:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, really.
- 20:22SPEAKER_04: Clear Clarence had an unbelievable game.
- 20:24SPEAKER_04: He was shooting, he was playing with confidence, he made some really clutch layups.
- 20:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, he he made that big play there at the end where he got fouled on the offensive rebound.
- 20:33SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, I mean, he was he was fantastic.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: He showed his you saw the best of Clarence Nadolny this game.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I love the way the way he put it at the end, you know, that that this was this was personal, you know, and I I love that.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: I love that fire that you can bring into a game and harness it.
- 20:48SPEAKER_03: Like it didn't get in his way, it motivated him because he was the second best player on the court after Bryson, you know.
- 20:53SPEAKER_03: And I would argue arguably give Nidoni the MVP look because of the way he stepped up, way more so than other games.
- 21:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, just I love seeing Chris Beard's guys just really turn it on, turn it on when they need to.
- 21:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's still you're playing a really great Texas team, but you're just showing now we're still a better program here.
- 21:10SPEAKER_03: Our boy, the boys you left are better than anything on that team.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: So I love seeing the Doni step up like that.
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Marcus Sanosilva also had a good game, uh, six and eight, uh, just off the bench.
- 21:19SPEAKER_04: He's played fantastic.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: He has embraced this off the bench big role, and he is uh I love it.
- 21:25SPEAKER_04: I love it.
- 21:26SPEAKER_04: I love all of our guys that came back.
- 21:28SPEAKER_04: TJ uh O of six uh shooting this game, but knocked down six free throws.
- 21:32SPEAKER_04: Um, a little bit of talk about TJ uh kind of later in the game.
- 21:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, people concerned about his attitude and everything like that.
- 21:40SPEAKER_04: Uh you know, he was frustrated, clearly frustrated after Adams called a timeout.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: Um, when TJ kind of he we were running, we were running a play.
- 21:50SPEAKER_04: We had a play set up, and TJ clearly waved it off and wanted to go one on one.
- 21:54SPEAKER_04: This is what lost us the Providence game was TJ doing this, and he was shooting a three pointer, shooting these these.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Long distance threes that uh weren't gonna go in, and it's just it wasn't gonna work.
- 22:04SPEAKER_04: And Adam saw that called the timeout.
- 22:06SPEAKER_04: TJ was frustrated, slamming the ball on the ground, and immediately I was watching this on the on the rewatch here.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: Darryl Dora comes off the bench.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, uh obviously great red raider.
- 22:18SPEAKER_04: He goes, you know, calm down to TJ, get your head back into it.
- 22:22SPEAKER_04: Let's all do this as a team.
- 22:24SPEAKER_04: Um, and he was right back into it, headspace, everything like that.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: So uh TJ's an emotional player.
- 22:30SPEAKER_04: Um, there's nothing wrong with that.
- 22:33SPEAKER_04: There really is that's that feeds into his play style too, just going to the basket, getting fouled, doing all that good stuff.
- 22:39SPEAKER_04: He ended up getting the ball even on that play, missed the shot, but that was when Nadolny got the uh got the foul on the offensive rebound, knocked out a couple free throws.
- 22:47SPEAKER_04: But uh, don't be too concerned about Terrence Shannon, he's just an emotional player.
- 22:50SPEAKER_03: And it's an emotional game.
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I think one of the best clips from the game is uh uh TJ locking eyes with Chris Beard.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Like UT like all the time out.
- 22:59SPEAKER_04: He said something to him.
- 23:01SPEAKER_04: I think I replayed that same clip over and over again to see if I could hear anything from the broadcast, but you just can't, and his head was kind of turned, so you couldn't even read lips or anything.
- 23:11SPEAKER_04: But yeah, he clearly he said something to him and gave him a little gave him the eyes.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because because Chris Beard reacted to it.
- 23:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he he kind of he kind of froze a second whenever uh TJ clearly said something.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: And I love it.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: And the Dolney was doing the same thing.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: She's just like he always looks so angry, he always he always looked like he's just an angry Frenchman on the court.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: He's got this angry French face all the time, and that he it really showed out the heat game, and I loved it.
- 23:39SPEAKER_03: He's got these great facial expressions, and he just makes for great re uh uh highlights and stuff, especially after a game like this when all the boys are up in their emotions.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: So it's it's just good to see.
- 23:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 23:49SPEAKER_04: Um, our boy Brock Cunningham fouled out in both the games now.
- 23:53SPEAKER_04: Good player, good player, blue guy.
- 23:56SPEAKER_04: I gave him so much crap when I was there.
- 23:59SPEAKER_04: Every time he did something, he missed a shot, every time missed a free throw.
- 24:02SPEAKER_04: I was I was living my best life up there, just talking all sorts of mess.
- 24:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, good for him, though.
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, he he he he scored seven points.
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: That's what you need out of your blue guy.
- 24:11SPEAKER_04: That's like that's like triple triple his average, dude.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Exactly, man.
- 24:15SPEAKER_03: I mean, especially in a big game like this, you know.
- 24:17SPEAKER_03: He unfortunately he wasn't shirtless this time, whatever he was uh embracing the tech fans, but um just all overall fantastic, you know.
- 24:27SPEAKER_03: Just I love seeing these guys eat the sand.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: And I mean, kind of coming back to just the way Chris Beard's players are reacting right now.
- 24:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's a bit of a smoke around T Mitchell right now, and I we don't know if there's a fire there at all, but more and more signs are saying that there's more smoke in the program than there is.
- 24:42SPEAKER_03: Obviously, I mean you're not gonna sit here and gossip about it, but it's just we we've seen the pattern before, and man, I I'm not I don't hate it.
- 24:49SPEAKER_03: I don't, I don't, I'm not hoping for the success of Chris Beard, so I don't hate seeing that kind of thing.
- 24:55SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, I mean it's it's something to bring up because we saw you you send it to us today on Twitter that uh Trey Mitchell's dad was uh he Trey Mitchell obviously took a leave of absence from the team.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: We weren't sure what the heck for.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: Could be personal, it could be team related, we don't know.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: But his dad's on Twitter talking mess about Chris Beard and tagging him in those posts saying he doesn't know how to use big man, he he doesn't, he's not an offensive minded coach, he doesn't know how to use my son.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: So, you know, that tends to it's it's the least surprising thing ever, by the way, because we've seen with Chris Beard coach teams guys leave his program, they do it a lot.
- 25:33SPEAKER_04: Uh, it's not uncommon here.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: He's had what I think this is the fourth player.
- 25:38SPEAKER_04: If he does, in fact, leave the team.
- 25:40SPEAKER_04: Uh, again, we don't know.
- 25:42SPEAKER_04: But for for his dad to go on Twitter saying he doesn't know how to use him, calling out his own coach, that's not a good sign.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: Absolutely not.
- 25:50SPEAKER_03: And I mean, it's it's it's not even I I love seeing this breakdown.
- 25:54SPEAKER_03: It's not just the the Chris Beard team in general.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, UT fans need to learn how to take a loss.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, the way the way the way that they're they're losing to Tex Tech, they act like it's just you know, it's tech, it's always comes back to the fans.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, Thomas Mooney, a great music journalist in Lubbock, a proud Red Raider.
- 26:09SPEAKER_03: He always puts this perfectly.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: It's like whenever we win, it's about our team, but whenever whenever other teams lose to us, it's about our fans, you know, and it's just it always just comes back to Tech Tech fans suck, they have no class and all that.
- 26:21SPEAKER_03: I didn't see anything egregious from any Red Raider fan in the form from either game, even the one in Lubbock.
- 26:27SPEAKER_04: Everybody was like, Oh my god, they're gonna throw all sorts of stuff, and we were part of that too.
- 26:30SPEAKER_04: I mean, we didn't think we were gonna be, you know, as good as we were during that game, but nothing happened, no fights were happening, no it the worst we got were some middle fingers and some F words.
- 26:41SPEAKER_04: That was the worst, and that's just you know, that's just being fans, that's yeah, and uh I get it.
- 26:48SPEAKER_04: A lot of fan bases aren't like cool with the the middle finger and the F-word, whatever, man.
- 26:53SPEAKER_04: That is harmless stuff.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: It is, it really is.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: I mean, the the only thing that got thrown was a beer can from an angry UT fan that I saw.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: Oh, we did see that, but that was from the upper level, it wasn't going on the quarter or anything, but yeah, it wasn't good.
- 27:05SPEAKER_04: We called them out, we were like, dude, don't do that crap, man.
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and uh, but I did I think I will say something funny did happen uh when it comes to projectiles.
- 27:14SPEAKER_03: Whenever at the after long few seconds after the buzzer, there were indeed tortillas flying across the arena, and that's just funny, that's great.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's just it's good, man.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: And I mean, uh otherwise, I mean, not nothing, not no confrontations happens in the arena that I saw, but it's just whenever you get online, UT fans act like we just came out of jail and we're on parole and we're like violating it.
- 27:36SPEAKER_04: I swear, yeah, no doubt.
- 27:38SPEAKER_04: It was a uh it was fun, it was really fun.
- 27:41SPEAKER_04: Um uh going out of the arena, you know, we're all celebrating Raider Powers going all through the uh the arena.
- 27:47SPEAKER_04: We saw our guy Dylan from tortillas and takes out there outside the arena.
- 27:51SPEAKER_04: Got a quick pick with him.
- 27:52SPEAKER_04: Uh really good to see him and and just being with the people that night, all through at the bar scene and everything like that.
- 27:58SPEAKER_04: You just see red raiders, uh, you know, saying walking by and just saying wreck them, like we kicked their ass.
- 28:03SPEAKER_04: It's a great day, and all this good stuff.
- 28:06SPEAKER_04: It was it was really fun.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: It was truly a red raider takeover, y'all.
- 28:09SPEAKER_03: And I'm I hope you all got to get there.
- 28:10SPEAKER_03: If not, I'm sure it was a lot of fun to watch.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: Um, the only the only negative that came out of that weekend was definitely uh some really bad hangovers.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: So Steve and I indulged in way too many sodas.
- 28:21SPEAKER_03: We gotta stop ordering the uh the small sodas midnight, you know.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: It's just you gotta stick with the big sodas rather than ordering the little sodas that come in the small glasses.
- 28:30SPEAKER_03: So yeah, just bypass those Larry.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: Shouts out Cole and uh and Braxton for absolutely destroying us with shots all night.
- 28:40SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: I will all I'll say is the drive back to Baton Rouge was not fun uh the next day.
- 28:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, but yeah, no, the the whole the whole day was great.
- 28:49SPEAKER_04: I I'm so glad we went.
- 28:50SPEAKER_04: I'm glad we got in.
- 28:51SPEAKER_04: I'm glad uh we got to see a really cool moment of us sweeping Chris Beard.
- 28:56SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, and that obviously means so much to this team.
- 28:59SPEAKER_03: And it's it's gonna be the last season that ever happens, you know.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: First time we meet up with the old coach.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: So it just means a ton.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: And there's so much more expected out of Texas Tech than it is Texas, and that's a beautiful thing to see.
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: And you know, it just look back at April, everyone thought we were dead, you know.
- 29:13SPEAKER_03: Everything, everyone thought that Austin was the next place to be.
- 29:15SPEAKER_03: And it's just it just makes you swell up with pride and gives you all the sorts of love towards Mark Adams, thinking that nah it's it's actually the exact opposite.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: And then if anything, we're getting we're getting better, you know.
- 29:25SPEAKER_03: It's it's addition from subtract subtraction.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: I'm so glad that coach Adams has full reigns over this team now.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: And these two games just prove it that we've upgraded and that we you know we we want this more than they do, and that's just how that's how it is, and that's how I hope it always stays.
- 29:38SPEAKER_04: That's your Big 12 coach of the year, Mark Adams.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, without question, and and arguably national.
- 29:45SPEAKER_03: He should still be in the conversation.
- 29:47SPEAKER_04: If Tommy Lloyd wasn't doing what he was doing at Arizona right now, uh Mark Adams would be even above Ed Cooley at Providence.
- 29:53SPEAKER_04: It's those three that are talked about, but you know, with Arizona being the number two team in the country right now, it's hard uh to argue because they were unranked uh to start the year as well.
- 30:02SPEAKER_04: So I as much as we're I know, I know, and they're number two.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: I don't know, you know we're number nine.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: But I'm a whole an SEC football fan thing and say we play in the Big 12, man.
- 30:13SPEAKER_03: I mean it's a little different from the back.
- 30:15SPEAKER_04: Now, now I think Mark Adams still has a chance.
- 30:18SPEAKER_04: If we can somehow win the Big 12 and Arizona maybe drops a game or two, uh, you know, it's up for debate.
- 30:24SPEAKER_04: And if we could potentially win the Big 12 championship, conference championship, I don't know, uh the tournament or whatever, right?
- 30:30SPEAKER_04: But um, you know, it's still up for debate either way.
- 30:33SPEAKER_04: It doesn't matter.
- 30:34SPEAKER_04: He's the Big 12 coach of the year, and that's not even a debate right now.
- 30:37SPEAKER_04: So uh, you know, that's big time for for Coach Adams.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: And he's our coach of the year, yeah.
- 30:42SPEAKER_04: Oh, no doubt.
- 30:43SPEAKER_04: He's he's the greatest, he's the greatest coach in Texas Tech basketball history, okay?
- 30:46SPEAKER_04: You heard it here from obviously all it took was one season.
- 30:51SPEAKER_04: Uh that's not even over yet.
- 30:53SPEAKER_04: We still have a ton of ton of basketball to play.
- 30:56SPEAKER_04: Um, we also haven't talked to y'all since Baylor happened.
- 30:59SPEAKER_04: Uh, that's another great team that we swept this year, the defending national champs, by the way.
- 31:03SPEAKER_04: Um, we win this game.
- 31:05SPEAKER_04: Massive, massive Kevin O'Banner game.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: Uh second half, he scored 21 in just the second half.
- 31:11SPEAKER_04: Uh 23 and 13 game for him.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: Uh it was I I love a Kevin O'Banner game.
- 31:17SPEAKER_04: I'll say it.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: It's it's some of my it's some of the most fun I've I've had watching tech basketball is when Kevin O'Banner is knocking down his shots.
- 31:24SPEAKER_03: Well, you're you're in love with KO.
- 31:26SPEAKER_03: I think anytime anytime anytime KO gets the ball in his hands, I don't think there's a happier person on the planet than you.
- 31:34SPEAKER_03: So, but no, dude, you're right, man.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: Sweeping Baylor was enormous.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Sweeping the defending national champions, a team you haven't swept in over 15 years.
- 31:43SPEAKER_03: It's crazy.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, and that's also mad props to what uh Scott has has built at Baylor to make a team that's rarely swept.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, obviously, just a great work from us.
- 31:53SPEAKER_03: Our home crowd was a huge part about it, man.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, they really it really they really kept us in it the entire time.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: It was so great going on Joe Gibman's podcast after this, and was able to talk about this game and talk about what's what's happened in Lubbock, Texas, that even even Baylor fans recognize it.
- 32:10SPEAKER_03: They just it's it's just been incredible the transformation that's happened in West Texas.
- 32:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 32:15SPEAKER_04: Um, I do I I want to say one more thing about Kevin O'Banner.
- 32:19SPEAKER_04: Uh just just one more for you.
- 32:22SPEAKER_04: Um, 402 mark in the first half.
- 32:25SPEAKER_04: Uh Kevin O'Banner gets fouled, knocks down two free throws.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: And at that moment, I said, All right, this is this is where he's gonna go because he's because when shooters, I'm telling you, when shooters see the ball go through the hoop, it's a different animal then.
- 32:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, it changes the game completely, and he's a shooter.
- 32:42SPEAKER_04: So when he saw that ball go through the hoop on those free throws, I was like, Kevin O'Banner's gonna go off in this second half.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: And I now did I expect him to get 21 points in the second half?
- 32:51SPEAKER_04: No, but I was like, he's gonna do it this game, he's gonna knock down a few, and he ended up knocking down, I think, four, four three-pointers, and then uh a bunch of other stuff down low.
- 33:00SPEAKER_04: I mean, he was unbelievable, perfect from the line as well.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, this this was the game that you I mean, I think he put it perfectly that this was Oral Roberts, Kevin O'Banner.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: You know, he obviously, you know, he's he's it's expanded his arsenal here at Texas Tech, but this was scoring machine O'Banner uh from from Oral Roberts.
- 33:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, 23 points season high, 13 rebounds, too.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, double double, man.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: It's just it's so great to see him be able to pull off stuff like that, not just scoring, but also bringing it down as well, man.
- 33:29SPEAKER_03: And also, you know, it in Bryson Williams had a fantastic game.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: He's just overshadowed by this colossal performance that's needed against a Baylor Bear team.
- 33:38SPEAKER_03: I really did think that there's a strong possibility that the home streaks broken tonight, and I would not have been mad about it, you know.
- 33:43SPEAKER_03: It's because you know, Baylor is this the second best.
- 33:46SPEAKER_03: Well, now probably tied, second best team in the Big 12.
- 33:49SPEAKER_03: And you know, we we just haven't swept him in forever, and it's nearly impossible to protect your home court forever, but we did it, and it just and all it was mostly thanks to KO, just a fantastic performance.
- 34:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean Adonis had a great game too, 15 and 7 for him.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: Terrence Shannon was great down the stretch.
- 34:06SPEAKER_04: That was something that was really awesome to see when Baylor started pressing after we took a decent sized lead.
- 34:12SPEAKER_04: We kept the scoring going because of Terrence Shannon.
- 34:15SPEAKER_04: I mean, he got that nice hand one beating the press and uh got a layup later on in the game.
- 34:20SPEAKER_04: Um, he was terrific.
- 34:21SPEAKER_04: Uh, threw that great alley oop pass to Bryson Williams there.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: Um, who by the way, Bryson Williams, Mr.
- 34:27SPEAKER_04: 2,000 points, uh, hit that great mark against uh who do we just play?
- 34:31SPEAKER_04: Oklahoma.
- 34:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, 2,000 points in your college career is ridiculous.
- 34:35SPEAKER_04: And Bryson deserves all the praise for this.
- 34:38SPEAKER_04: He works his butt off, and all the staff and all the players have nothing but love for him.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: It's uh congrats to Bryson.
- 34:45SPEAKER_03: You're you're a very connected guy in the basketball world in general.
- 34:48SPEAKER_03: Obviously, you your original love in sports was the National Basketball Association with the San Antonio Spurs.
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Where do you see?
- 34:54SPEAKER_03: Do you see any sort of big league potential with B Williams?
- 34:58SPEAKER_04: I could, it could.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: It's hard, it's hard when you're 24.
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: Uh that's to be, you know, it's the NBA just doesn't take into account uh or they take into account youth way more than they do necessarily talent.
- 35:11SPEAKER_04: Now, I'm not saying it couldn't happen, I'm not saying he could he could make his way on a team.
- 35:16SPEAKER_04: Uh, who knows?
- 35:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'm not even sure.
- 35:18SPEAKER_04: But if you're looking at the way Bryson Williams plays, uh, I I think he deserves a shot.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: If not, he's gonna have a terrific career overseas, and that happens to plenty of great college players.
- 35:28SPEAKER_04: So um, I don't know.
- 35:29SPEAKER_04: I could see there we've seen guys that go to the NBA after going four or five full years in college and and make their way on a team, and it works out.
- 35:39SPEAKER_04: It's hard to tell with him.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: Um, but his shooting has been a massive uh you know upgrade for him from the previous years.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: I think he's learning uh to play defense really well under Mark Adams.
- 35:51SPEAKER_04: So I could see him getting a getting a cup of coffee in the NBA.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: That'd be excellent, man.
- 35:56SPEAKER_03: I just want to see us pump more Red Raiders into the NBA, you know.
- 35:59SPEAKER_03: With the program we're starting to develop here in Lubbock, you want to start seeing it pay off in the big league as well.
- 36:04SPEAKER_03: It just shows that you're able to analyze, you know, select and get good players out in the league.
- 36:08SPEAKER_03: So I just want to see more.
- 36:09SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh more than just Jerry Culver out there.
- 36:12SPEAKER_03: Um, just again, an excellent game from here from him and transfers and Odonis Arms, like you said, had a great game.
- 36:18SPEAKER_03: Um, dude, just a fantastic week from our from our boys.
- 36:21SPEAKER_03: You couldn't ask for anything more.
- 36:23SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't think any of us would have just flat out predicted three, you know, across these last few games, but just it's it's just kind of it's what we do, you know.
- 36:32SPEAKER_03: We're that good.
- 36:33SPEAKER_03: We are that good.
- 36:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
- 36:36SPEAKER_04: Um, shouts out Buzo, end of the uh Baylor.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, got some nice minutes, got a nice jumper.
- 36:40SPEAKER_04: I know uh I know Ryan Mainville is uh is all hyped up about it.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: That's his guy, and everybody there with the Buzo hive, they were all hyped up to see that.
- 36:48SPEAKER_04: Um, Malik Wilson's been fantastic.
- 36:51SPEAKER_04: Uh these last few games on the defensive end.
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: His stat lines don't jump out at you, but uh the Steels, he's he's playing unbelievable defense.
- 36:58SPEAKER_04: There was a spot in the Baylor game where he switched off on a Kinjo, Flagler, and Cryer, their three best guards, switched off on all of them in one play and played it beautifully.
- 37:10SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's it's unreal.
- 37:11SPEAKER_04: This guy, uh, next year is going to be a really, really big piece for tech.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: I love it, man.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: And I'm glad that we're retaining such defensive hustle talent like him, you know.
- 37:21SPEAKER_03: And that's that stuff goes unnoticed amongst your normal fan.
- 37:24SPEAKER_03: You know, that's only only guys like you that just really understand the game pick up on that kind of thing, and it's a beautiful thing as well.
- 37:30SPEAKER_03: You know, defense isn't sexy, but it wins you games.
- 37:32SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's just it's great to retain that sort of talent.
- 37:34SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you don't get a lot of guys scoring on Malik Wilson one-on-one.
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: So he's he's a fantastic defender.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: Um, KJ Allen got in in this Oklahoma game a little bit after a few games of not and uh had a massive dunk.
- 37:46SPEAKER_04: Actually, played some pretty good defense there.
- 37:48SPEAKER_03: So uh he got like hand gifted that dunk.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: It was just like KJ, you better seize this moment and bring the backboard down.
- 37:56SPEAKER_04: He did, but he got a steal there.
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: He played some good defense in those minutes.
- 38:00SPEAKER_04: It looks like uh, unfortunately, it looks like Boccho's gonna be out for at least a few games uh from some knee trouble.
- 38:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, so we may see some KJ Allen here to end the season.
- 38:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, I'm sure once it gets to Big 12 tourney time and NCAA tournament time, you know, the it's natural that the roster gets a little thinner and you start playing less guys, you kind of get into the seven, eight-man rotations a little bit more.
- 38:21SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's nice to see him get some get some moments and get some dunks and uh you know, uh just from guys that have been sitting on the bench for the majority of the season to uh get in the game and and kind of get their head right.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: And guys, that might be the future of the program, right?
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: You know, because they actually have some years of eligibility left.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: So hopefully we can see them evolve into the next years here, too.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, dude, before we had before we put a bow on on basketball here, uh, how how let's go back to the OU game since we were just talking about it.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: How would the USA of cratered like nothing would have existed if Tipperman nailed that three at the end of the game?
- 38:55SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm I'm hoping my boy Tipperman gets some buckets here in the next few games.
- 39:00SPEAKER_04: I want it so bad.
- 39:01SPEAKER_04: Uh he responded to us on Twitter, by the way.
- 39:03SPEAKER_04: Shouts out awesome Tipperman.
- 39:05SPEAKER_04: If you listen to the podcast, I don't know, but uh I I love it.
- 39:08SPEAKER_04: I love seeing the the walk-ons, the uh, you know, the the guys at the end of the bench getting into the game, uh just to get their moment to shine.
- 39:16SPEAKER_04: Uh we have one more home game left.
- 39:18SPEAKER_04: Hopefully, you know, he can find a way.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Hopefully, we're crushing K-State like we crushed uh OU for him to get some moments, but uh yeah, that was good.
- 39:26SPEAKER_04: I think the USA would have erupted if uh if Superman made that three.
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the top would have blown off, that's for sure, man.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: But dude, what an amazing season this has been.
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: I don't think you can look at this season with any sort of regret, any sort of you know, disappointment whatsoever.
- 39:42SPEAKER_03: I mean, we here we are in the twilight days of it.
- 39:44SPEAKER_03: We're gearing up for the uh March Mandis.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: And it just I don't think you could have written a better Mark Adams debut.
- 39:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 39:53SPEAKER_04: I mean, this season it's it's a storybook so far, and there's still a lot of time to go.
- 39:57SPEAKER_04: So we still have a lot to accomplish.
- 39:58SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, the the regular season's been great, uh, but we still have three games left in it.
- 40:02SPEAKER_04: Um, TCU, Kansas State, and uh at Oklahoma State.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, I didn't say at TCU on purpose because that's gonna be another uh pretty much home game for our rhetorators over there in Fort Worth.
- 40:13SPEAKER_03: 1000%, man.
- 40:14SPEAKER_03: That's it's it's gonna be probably more so than what Austin was.
- 40:17SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 40:18SPEAKER_04: I mean, I mean it's gonna be ridiculous.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: I saw those ticket prices, I was just looking at them, and they're jacked up real high, kind of just like UT.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: So, especially with the amount of Fort Worth natives that went to tech, you know.
- 40:29SPEAKER_04: So yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 40:31SPEAKER_04: We have a huge alumni base there.
- 40:32SPEAKER_04: We should show up, and we always do in Fort Worth, what no matter the sport.
- 40:35SPEAKER_04: So um just talking a little Big 12 uh standings, it's gonna be tough for tech, I think, to pull it off here to get a share of the Big 12.
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: Uh Kansas being pretty much two games above us.
- 40:48SPEAKER_04: The thing about this is Kansas has four games left, so they have a rescheduled game from uh a TCU game that was postponed earlier in the season.
- 40:57SPEAKER_04: Uh, they're gonna play back-to-back against TCU here.
- 41:00SPEAKER_04: They're gonna play like a three three-game week here soon.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Um, but right now we're two full games behind it in the standings.
- 41:07SPEAKER_04: Um, we're gonna need some magic to happen uh for Kansas to lose two games.
- 41:11SPEAKER_04: They play, they do play Baylor in Waco, uh, then they go and play TCU in Fort Worth and then host TCU, and then they host Texas.
- 41:21SPEAKER_04: So really, I could see them losing in Waco to Baylor, but you know, getting getting one of these TCU games or Texas, I don't really see them losing.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: Uh, it'd be great if they did, but um, you know, it it it'll be tough to uh to get a share of the Big 12 at this point, I think.
- 41:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: And but the end of the schedule does favor us pretty well.
- 41:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, we should we should go undefeated.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's it's it's kind of out of our hands at this point.
- 41:44SPEAKER_03: Unfortunately, drop games that we shouldn't have.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: The ones that really stand out are K-State and Oklahoma, just two games we should have won.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: Um, but it's it's it's all good, man.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: It's it's uh I'm not I'm not mad about finishing seconds in the Big 12.
- 41:58SPEAKER_03: This Kansas team is legit, they always are.
- 42:01SPEAKER_03: Um, and it just gives you hope for the future.
- 42:02SPEAKER_03: And obviously, March Madness, hey, if we go and do awesome in March Madness, all will be forgotten in that sense anyway.
- 42:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and that's mostly the important thing.
- 42:09SPEAKER_04: And the important thing right now is getting a two-seed because we're at that line, according to Lenardi and a few others that do the bracketology stuff.
- 42:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, right now we're kind of like that last two seed in.
- 42:20SPEAKER_04: Uh, we need a lot to happen.
- 42:22SPEAKER_04: Um, Villanova did lose to Yukon.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: That was nice.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: Uh, they're gonna be they're right there on that line, too.
- 42:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, we're gonna need some stuff to happen.
- 42:30SPEAKER_04: Duke needs to probably drop a game or so.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, we need Baylor to keep losing.
- 42:34SPEAKER_04: We need the good news is one of Baylor or Kansas is losing on Saturday.
- 42:40SPEAKER_04: So that's good news.
- 42:41SPEAKER_04: But you know, uh, it's still it's still gonna take a few more losses, and we just need to take care of business.
- 42:47SPEAKER_04: I mean, that's what we can do.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: Control we can control, go win these last three games at home.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: Uh, Big 12 tournament, I care none about the Big 12 tournament.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: I would actually rather us get a little rest.
- 42:59SPEAKER_03: I was about to say, I mean, uh, unless you're an Iowa State or Texas Longhorn van.
- 43:03SPEAKER_03: I mean, if if not, those are highly important the most important part of the season.
- 43:07SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's true.
- 43:08SPEAKER_04: It the the postseason conference tournaments are for the lower seeds that are hoping to get a bid.
- 43:13SPEAKER_04: That's what they're for 100.
- 43:15SPEAKER_04: They're not for Texas Tech and Kansas and Baylor, those guys are already in.
- 43:18SPEAKER_04: They don't need and and Texas Tech has been famously horrible in the Big 12 conference tournament.
- 43:23SPEAKER_04: So we're usually a one and done.
- 43:25SPEAKER_04: I am not expecting much, and even that 2019 team that went to the final four and lost, I think, in their first game.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: So it's it's just another, it's it's more games to play if we could if we get a little rest during that time, rest up, get ready for the NCA tournament.
- 43:40SPEAKER_04: I'd almost prefer that.
- 43:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 43:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so um a lot of implications here.
- 43:46SPEAKER_04: Uh, keep an eye on the remaining Kansas games, the remaining Baylor games, because Baylor is still tied with us right now in the Big 12.
- 43:53SPEAKER_04: So um, it's gonna take a lot.
- 43:55SPEAKER_04: It's gonna take a lot to win.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: Gotta say, gotta say, we were the we were this freaking close to sweet.
- 44:00SPEAKER_03: Sweeping Baylor UT and Kansas, and that would have been sick.
- 44:03SPEAKER_03: And now that Kansas State game stings it's a little bit because we can be one game behind rather than just uh the OU game.
- 44:10SPEAKER_04: Shoot, we just beat that team by 24 and we lost by 15 to them the first time.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: It didn't it didn't make any sense.
- 44:17SPEAKER_03: Basketball doesn't make any sense.
- 44:19SPEAKER_03: It's kind of like baseball, it could be so erratic sometimes.
- 44:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 44:22SPEAKER_04: Uh another thing to look out for uh with getting a two seed is trying to get in the Fort Worth region.
- 44:28SPEAKER_04: Uh because obviously you want to be in Texas.
- 44:30SPEAKER_04: Uh Texas Tech fans will show out for that tournament, uh, the first two tournament games.
- 44:34SPEAKER_04: Uh, and then I think there's a round in San Antonio as well.
- 44:37SPEAKER_04: It's hard uh to know where you're gonna be.
- 44:41SPEAKER_04: I know that Texas Tech needs to be above Baylor because I'm sure uh the the higher of the seat is gonna get Fort Worth in that region.
- 44:49SPEAKER_04: So um just try to beat out Baylor and get higher seating than them.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm really hoping for the Fort Worth one, man.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: I I definitely would try to make a trip.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: It's I think it's it'd probably be in that nice new Dickies arena, which is apparently really nice.
- 45:00SPEAKER_03: So I'd be I'd really like to check that out.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: And obviously, we got friends and family there.
- 45:04SPEAKER_03: So lots of Red Raiders would be there.
- 45:05SPEAKER_03: Let's I mean San Antonio would be great too, but let's let's fingers crossed for Fort Worth for sure.
- 45:10SPEAKER_04: I am I'm holding out, I'm holding out for the final four.
- 45:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so we can all hit up NOLA, right?
- 45:15SPEAKER_04: Oh my god, it's an hour from me, dude.
- 45:17SPEAKER_04: Everybody stays here, and then we go to the final four in New Orleans, it would be fantastic.
- 45:21SPEAKER_04: So I would I don't care how much it would cost.
- 45:23SPEAKER_04: We're getting I don't, I really don't.
- 45:25SPEAKER_04: Honestly, we both have weddings that we need to pay for here soon, but it this is like a once-in-a-lifetime, yeah.
- 45:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, this it doesn't just doesn't happen, so yeah.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: So, and especially being so close.
- 45:34SPEAKER_04: So, uh fingers crossed, knocking on wood.
- 45:36SPEAKER_04: Obviously, not saying we're going to the final four yet or anything, but we're playing really well right now.
- 45:40SPEAKER_04: We need to keep up this momentum.
- 45:42SPEAKER_04: Um, I think that's it for basketball, man.
- 45:45SPEAKER_04: You want to talk some baseball?
- 45:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that was a lot of fun talking about basketball.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: It was a good week, man.
- 45:49SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, let's so let's go ahead and get onto the diamond.
- 45:51SPEAKER_03: It's our opening weekend amongst the diamond.
- 45:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, it wasn't everything you wanted, but at least we ended strong at the recording of this episode.
- 45:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, two and two start for Texas Tech Baseball.
- 46:02SPEAKER_04: Uh, we go in to um Globe Life Field and uh go one and three, uh, get a comeback, nice comeback opener against Michigan.
- 46:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, really exciting stuff.
- 46:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, nobody could watch it because it's on freaking flow sports.
- 46:14SPEAKER_04: So, unless you were there, you weren't really watching it.
- 46:16SPEAKER_04: Paid$30.
- 46:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and or maybe you did.
- 46:20SPEAKER_04: Props to you.
- 46:21SPEAKER_03: I don't want to pay$30 for it.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: If you're a huge baseball fan, no, no, no, no disrespect at all.
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: But it's just like I can't, I have a hard time rationalizing paying$30 for a subscription service, whatever everything, all the other games will be available to me.
- 46:36SPEAKER_04: But yeah, yeah, no doubt.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: But uh beat beat a good Michigan team uh to start off, and then we uh lost a tight one to Auburn one to two, and then we absolutely got blasted by Arizona.
- 46:47SPEAKER_04: Uh, not not much excuse in that Arizona game.
- 46:50SPEAKER_04: The thing about this team is we're not really gonna know the full potential of it until probably late March.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, we need to get some guys in there, our pitching.
- 46:58SPEAKER_04: Uh we need to figure that out.
- 47:00SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I'm sure Tadlock's you know figuring it out day by day, but it's it might take a while for this team.
- 47:05SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you just you just hit on it.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: I think the biggest issue that we're gonna have to figure out.
- 47:08SPEAKER_03: I mean we we covered this on the the no doubt or podcast that defense is probably gonna take a while to figure out, you know, figuring out that what what what works with us at the at the pitching position, um, because I think our batters are there, I think the batting will get going pretty dang easily.
- 47:21SPEAKER_03: We got some real sluggers on this team.
- 47:23SPEAKER_03: Um, and I think I think offense will save us for the most part while we figure it out.
- 47:27SPEAKER_03: But I mean, obviously in baseball, you you can't just let the other team smack everything.
- 47:31SPEAKER_03: So um look, hopefully we can figure out the pitching thing.
- 47:33SPEAKER_03: Um, because I mean it's really early in the season and and Tim Tadlock just doesn't take any game off.
- 47:37SPEAKER_03: I mean, we we don't we don't phone in anything because we just we play legit teams every single time.
- 47:42SPEAKER_03: We played legit teams in Arlington and we played a legit team and love it and a Dallas Baptist is is a great program.
- 47:48SPEAKER_03: So I I love that the offseason is just full of nothing but black eyes because that's how you really learn and really grow and figure out what what's really gonna happen when the rubber meets the road, when things get really hot.
- 47:59SPEAKER_04: So yeah, no doubt.
- 48:00SPEAKER_04: It was nice to be back at uh Dan Law.
- 48:03SPEAKER_04: Uh got to catch kind of the end of that game.
- 48:06SPEAKER_04: Uh we ended up beating Dallas Baptists, I think eight to four.
- 48:09SPEAKER_04: Um, nice hitting performance.
- 48:11SPEAKER_04: So, um, you know, uh, we always play better at home.
- 48:13SPEAKER_04: We just do.
- 48:14SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, really busted it open there with with the batting at the end.
- 48:17SPEAKER_04: And uh basketball and baseball, we always have a great home court advantage.
- 48:21SPEAKER_04: Let's get football there.
- 48:22SPEAKER_04: I uh 100.
- 48:24SPEAKER_04: I come on, Joey.
- 48:25SPEAKER_03: It's it's waiting to be there.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and uh there's no one that can sell a home sell uh crowd to get there like Joey Maguire.
- 48:32SPEAKER_03: You just gotta win some games at home.
- 48:35SPEAKER_03: That's all we're asking.
- 48:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's it's hard, it's hard when you've had a decade of mediocre to bad.
- 48:41SPEAKER_04: So uh give Joey some time.
- 48:43SPEAKER_04: I think he's doing great work already.
- 48:45SPEAKER_04: So uh everybody, I'm I'm sure it's like you know, it's every time you get a new coach, you get kind of a revival.
- 48:51SPEAKER_04: You think, okay, this is it this time.
- 48:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yes and no.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: I I think I I really don't think that was there with Matt Wells.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, you and I, you know, most of us we supported the Matt Wells hire just for the fact that we trusted Matt Kirby Hoke, but there was nothing there that excited us about the the the the hire, and then even if you didn't know Joey Maguire, he makes you fall in love with him instantly, just with his presence in the community.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: That was a little different too, because you know, we all wanted Cliff to do, we all wanted Cliff to succeed at yeah, we all wanted that to happen, and when it didn't, there were still people that believed in it and was like, No, give him more time.
- 49:26SPEAKER_04: And so the fan base was already split, and then when you don't hire somebody flashy, uh like Matt Wells, but everybody was kind of in agreement on Matt Wells getting let go, so yeah, it's it's it's a different situation here.
- 49:39SPEAKER_04: And then Joey, of course, has done a fantastic job of uniting the fan base and everything.
- 49:43SPEAKER_03: Yes, and I saw recently that 24-7 just uh recognized one of our recruits as a four-star.
- 49:47SPEAKER_03: So I mean the classes are getting better across the board.
- 49:51SPEAKER_03: Uh, and you know, that's that's been his most pressive impressive thing so far.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: It's it's been that and just his presence in the meeting, you know.
- 49:57SPEAKER_03: I every time I log onto Twitter, I have his notifications on anytime he tweets, I I see what it is, and he's always hashtagging let's go to like every result of any sport on campus.
- 50:08SPEAKER_03: So I just I love I love how sold in he is, and I I really do believe in when he says that he'll die at Texas Tech.
- 50:14SPEAKER_03: And if he succeeds, we'll let him do that.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: So I'm really looking forward to football season.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 50:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, that class right now, according to 247, the 23 2023 class, um, is ranked sixth in the nation uh right now, and we have one, two, three, four, five, six players not even ranked yet.
- 50:32SPEAKER_04: So, you know, it could only go higher.
- 50:34SPEAKER_04: We have 13 commits already, uh, for comparison.
- 50:39SPEAKER_04: The number one class, Notre Dame, has nine commits.
- 50:43SPEAKER_04: Uh Baylor has nine commits, Ohio State has five commits.
- 50:47SPEAKER_04: So obviously, these these schools are getting good players, but um, you know, for us to have 13 commitments already uh for the class of 2023, that says something.
- 50:56SPEAKER_03: I should have brought this up on the Bear Dan podcast with Joe Goodman, the Baylor one that I just went on.
- 51:00SPEAKER_03: That it's it's kind of interesting to see that both Baylor and Texas Tech are in the top recruiting classes in the Big 12 and in the nation right now.
- 51:06SPEAKER_03: I I just kind of goes back to me saying, I am 100% for picking up whatever seeds Baylor's got in Waco right now and planting them in Lubbock because it's working there, and you can see it's working here now, too.
- 51:19SPEAKER_03: So it's just kind of interesting to see that we're kind of buying that that that methodology and bringing it home.
- 51:24SPEAKER_03: So uh it's it's that is kind of interesting to see the parallel still there.
- 51:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and really Baylor's class is ranked above us, but they only have one four star.
- 51:33SPEAKER_04: We have three four stars.
- 51:35SPEAKER_04: Um, they have eight because basically their whole entire class is ranked right now.
- 51:39SPEAKER_04: They're we're still waiting on a few kids uh to get their official ranking.
- 51:43SPEAKER_04: So uh we'll probably climb above Baylor there here pretty soon.
- 51:46SPEAKER_03: We did hire away their two best recruiters, so one's our head coach today, so you know exactly.
- 51:52SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, no, that was that was a good get.
- 51:55SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, man.
- 51:57SPEAKER_04: I didn't think we would be talking a little football, but it looks like we did.
- 52:00SPEAKER_04: So uh it's it's a good, it's a great time to be a Texas Tech fan right now.
- 52:04SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 52:05SPEAKER_03: It's always fun hosting a podcast whenever we just win pretty much all the games we're talking about.
- 52:10SPEAKER_03: No bad vibes here.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: No, none at all, man.
- 52:13SPEAKER_03: Well, that was a great episode, dude.
- 52:15SPEAKER_03: I had a ton of fun.
- 52:16SPEAKER_03: Um, anything else we got to run down?
- 52:18SPEAKER_04: No, I don't think so.
- 52:19SPEAKER_04: Uh, we're gonna try to update you here in the next week or two.
- 52:22SPEAKER_04: Uh just about the other smaller sports happening around campus.
- 52:25SPEAKER_04: I haven't done my research, so I'm not up to date.
- 52:27SPEAKER_04: But I know that we've gotten some rankings and things like women's tennis, uh, in our golf teams, I think, are nationally ranked or and of course track and field getting ready to get going here soon.
- 52:37SPEAKER_04: So uh always watch what you can.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, ESPN Plus is a great tool to watch some of the smaller stuff.
- 52:44SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh yeah, we're we'll hopefully get you an update here pretty soon.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: But uh let's finish her off this episode with a song of the week.
- 52:52SPEAKER_04: Tristan, what you got?
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: All right, man.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm gonna do a repeat band, but the reason why is because the song just fits so perfectly into what last week it was.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: It's every Saturday night by the Vandaliers, and it's just talking about how I miss those Saturday nights with my friends, going out partying.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: It was really inspired by the the pandemic, of course, when everything was closed but down.
- 53:13SPEAKER_03: But I think it absolutely still applies to whenever you graduate college and everyone kind of has to go their separate ways because of their careers and lives.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: But whenever you get back together, it you're reminded of all the good times you have and how much fun you have.
- 53:23SPEAKER_03: So every Saturday night by the Vandaliers.
- 53:43SPEAKER_04: That's a good one.
- 53:44SPEAKER_04: And just you saying that reminded me, we didn't even shout out our guy Norz Odiace, who we saw out on Saturday on Saturday night.
- 53:52SPEAKER_04: Everybody go listen to the Mind Bully podcast.
- 53:54SPEAKER_04: Norrence couldn't have been a nicer guy for really went up to him just talking to him and got a good picture of him.
- 53:59SPEAKER_04: Um, and he's he's just a great dude and a great ambassador for tech.
- 54:02SPEAKER_04: So shouts out Norritz for sure, man.
- 54:04SPEAKER_03: It's so it's so cool seeing a guy still so humble, even though he's just a huge group of people look up to him like that.
- 54:09SPEAKER_03: So well, what a guy.
- 54:10SPEAKER_03: I mean, what I love that picture.
- 54:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no doubt.
- 54:13SPEAKER_04: Um, all right, my song of the week, a little different from yours, especially if this song is like your first Vandalier song, kind of a smoother, I don't know, but uh this one, this one's definitely not.
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: Um, and I chose it for a multitude of reasons.
- 54:28SPEAKER_04: First off, my song of the week is Hood Go Crazy, uh, Tech Nine featuring two chains and BOP.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: Um, I chose this because Texas Tech is ranked number nine in the country.
- 54:39SPEAKER_04: This band, of course, is called Tech Nine.
- 54:41SPEAKER_04: It's perfect, it needed to happen.
- 54:43SPEAKER_04: And also, the Hood Goes Crazy with Texas Tech basketball.
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: The friggin' Lubbock USA, it goes nuts after that Oklahoma game.
- 54:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, everybody's hyped up after that Baylor game and even after the home game against Texas in Austin.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, the hood go crazy.
- 54:58SPEAKER_04: That's my song of the week.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: This is the type of shit to make the hood go crazy on the interstate doing 180.
- 55:05SPEAKER_02: She said, do it for me, baby.
- 55:07SPEAKER_02: Took a double shot, and then we all went crazy.
- 55:11SPEAKER_03: Good pick, man.
- 55:12SPEAKER_03: And actually, you're you're wrong.
- 55:13SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of energy in these songs then, because this the banduler song, it's it's a rock and roll song.
- 55:17SPEAKER_03: It's like let's go out and have fun song.
- 55:20SPEAKER_03: So okay.
- 55:20SPEAKER_03: The first one you suggested was kind of slower and kind of so I'm sure, but yeah, no, I I understand that, but yeah, these these are two big energy pairs, which is there's a lot of energy right now.
- 55:30SPEAKER_03: So it's good, let's good.
- 55:31SPEAKER_03: Let's keep it up.
- 55:31SPEAKER_04: Wins good vibes only over on the talk and tech podcast.

- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Uh wow.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: First of all, uh got a lot of respect for Steven and Tristan.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: Uh their program, tough guys, just uh a lot of fun.

- 56:23SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't know where we go from here.
- 56:24SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm thinking I'm just gonna sit back down.
