- 5:32Speaker 7: So tweet about it now.
- 5:36Speaker 15: Oh, that's not how you spell douche.
- 5:38Speaker 1: The Oscars. Live Oscars Sunday, February 24th.
- 5:41Speaker 18: Don't know where the fuck you were last week, but
- 5:43Speaker 18: here's what you missed.
- 5:44Speaker 13: They have come to a point now where people, we
- 5:48Speaker 13: don't care.
- 5:48Speaker 3: The audience does not care.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Look at these people.
- 5:50Speaker 7: We don't care.
- 5:53Speaker 18: They artificially dragged this thing out with singing and apathy.
- 5:59Speaker 19: Our next presenter played a raging alcoholic in 28 days.
- 6:02Speaker 8: Hey, I'm a raging alcoholic now.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I'm not playing.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Well, I'm not an alcoholic.
- 6:08Speaker 20: But I have been drinking.
- 6:21Speaker 8: Look at her dress.
- 6:24Speaker 7: She's wearing a duvet cover. A duvet cover.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Did you say duvet cover?
- 6:30Speaker 9: Wow.
- 6:30Speaker 21: I haven't heard anyone say duvet forever.
- 6:35Speaker 12: I'm impressed.
- 6:36Speaker 9: Duvet.
- 6:36Speaker 6: Oh, my wife sends me a text that says duvet.
- 6:46Speaker 7: So the kids saw I Saw Your Boobs.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Well, my son will be singing it tomorrow.
- 6:54Speaker 22: Christoph Waltz, just won Best Supporting Actor.
- 6:58Speaker 6: I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I did not pick him.
- 7:03Speaker 12: The street was way off whack, way off whack.
- 7:06Speaker 1: I listened to the street.
- 7:07Speaker 12: They said Robert De Niro.
- 7:10Speaker 6: They were wrong.
- 7:14Speaker 13: I think.
- 7:15Speaker 23: Jamie Foxx and Leo DiCaprio, Sam Jackson and Kerry Washington.
- 7:21Speaker 7: I thank Harvey Weinstein and Amy Pascal.
- 7:23Speaker 12: Jamie Foxx is an idiot.
- 7:27Speaker 22: And Quentin Tarantino needs new teeth. But Quentin Tarantino has
- 7:33Speaker 22: made one of my most favorite movies of all time.
- 7:36Speaker 3: What the hell was that?
- 7:39Speaker 12: True Romance.
- 7:40Speaker 1: I love that movie.
- 7:41Speaker 12: He's so cool.
- 7:46Speaker 18: Brian is a wonderful human being. I just want all
- 7:52Speaker 18: the world to know this.
- 7:53Speaker 3: The man is a freaking genius.
- 8:10Speaker 22: He's over there putting bologna and bacon and all kinds
- 8:14Speaker 22: of stuff together.
- 8:15Speaker 12: He's going to pop it in the oven, and it's going.
- 8:18Speaker 22: To be collectible, and we're going to all enjoy the
- 8:21Speaker 22: hell out of it.
- 8:22Speaker 12: So I'm just telling you right now, for no other reason.
- 8:25Speaker 13: Than that, I just met the guy tonight, and he's
- 8:27Speaker 13: a wonderful human being.
- 8:29Speaker 1: I just want you all to know that, okay?
- 8:31Speaker 3: Brian is wonderful.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 8:33Speaker 7: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 8:38Speaker 13: The bacon and the ham and the sausage.
- 8:45Speaker 16: Talk about a little cheese and pop that stuff in
- 8:48Speaker 16: the oven.
- 8:48Speaker 1: You ever made a bacon explosion? I made one of
- 8:50Speaker 1: those one summer. And that's when you.
- 8:52Speaker 3: That's what it's called, right? Bacon explosion.
- 8:56Speaker 24: Bacon bomb.
- 8:57Speaker 9: Bacon bomb.
- 8:57Speaker 8: A bacon explosion.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 8: I think I'm going to sing again.
- 9:07Speaker 7: I think I'm going to freaking sing again.
- 9:09Speaker 3: The song was better than the movie.
- 9:12Speaker 18: Yeah, this song's pretty sweet.
- 9:14Speaker 6: I don't care how sweet the song is.
- 9:16Speaker 1: They're singing again.
- 9:17Speaker 25: What the hell?
- 9:19Speaker 13: This damn thing's been going on forever.
- 9:27Speaker 3: And they're singing again.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Because they can, Paul.
- 9:30Speaker 12: They can.
- 9:31Speaker 3: They can, and we're dumb enough to watch it. That's
- 9:33Speaker 3: what gets me.
- 9:37Speaker 9: Tweet Audio.

- 10:20Speaker 1: Sounds fair. It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 10:25Speaker 14: Burt Reynolds is Hooper, and Hooper is a real hero.
- 10:30Speaker 14: He can take more crashes.
- 10:32Speaker 9: Oh, jeez! More fire.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Hello, gorgeous.
- 10:40Speaker 6: More love.
- 10:42Speaker 14: More hits. He can take more risks and have more
- 10:45Speaker 14: fun than anyone can imagine. This is Hooper, the story
- 10:49Speaker 14: of the greatest stuntman of them all.
- 10:51Speaker 15: And his competition.
- 10:53Speaker 9: Wait a year and a half to meet you.
- 10:55Speaker 6: How's that?
- 10:56Speaker 20: I get to perform with Sonny Hooper.
- 10:58Speaker 27: Oh, hell, that ain't no big deal.
- 11:03Speaker 15: Burt Reynolds. Jan Michael Vincent. Sally Field.
- 11:06Speaker 9: I'm yours. Brian Keith. James Best.
- 11:10Speaker 14: Robert Klein, and Terry Bradshaw. In Hooper's world, talk is cheap,
- 11:17Speaker 14: and life is cheaper.
- 11:19Speaker 15: We may be in trouble.
- 11:21Speaker 14: A stunt is a gag, and a gag is no
- 11:23Speaker 14: laughing matter.
- 11:25Speaker 9: Man, building falls on you, crushes you, fade out the end. Great, Roger.
- 11:29Speaker 9: Of course we'll have a dozen cameras going.
- 11:31Speaker 14: And when the director yells, Action!
- 11:33Speaker 9: Go! Go!
- 11:34Speaker 2: Go!
- 11:34Speaker 9: I'm gonna hit it! He really means action.
- 11:42Speaker 15: Hooper's in a dangerous business, but his reward.
- 11:44Speaker 14: Is excitement, adventure, and a fortune if he lives to
- 11:48Speaker 14: collect it. Burt Reynolds is Hooper, the greatest stuntman alive.
- 11:56Speaker 9: I love stuntmen.
- 11:58Speaker 14: Hooper, the newest movie from the team that brought you
- 12:01Speaker 14: Smokey and the Bandit.
- 12:10Speaker 20: Though your hair is all in tangles And your makeup
- 12:16Speaker 20: is a mess The most of what you're drinking Is
- 12:22Speaker 20: spilling down your dress And to keep from falling off
- 12:28Speaker 20: your bar stools But all that you can do I
- 12:34Speaker 20: make my proposition Cause I'm just as drunk as you
- 12:41Speaker 20: Let's do something cheap and superficial Let's do something.
- 12:50Speaker 3: That we might.
- 12:52Speaker 20: Regret Let's do something shabby.
- 13:00Speaker 1: And insensitive This.
- 13:04Speaker 20: Might be the only chance we get.
- 13:11Speaker 9: Oh, wow.
- 13:11Speaker 8: Do they sell those at World Market?
- 13:14Speaker 9: No.
- 13:14Speaker 7: I looked anywhere in the U.S.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And I couldn't find them.
- 13:18Speaker 8: No, I should have brought an octopus ball or something
- 13:21Speaker 8: like that. They have the weirdest stuff I've ever seen.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Do I have balls?
- 13:25Speaker 8: Like a bouncing ball? No, it was like a ball.
- 13:28Speaker 8: It was a frozen gelatinous ball.
- 13:30Speaker 4: How often does Marlena feel guilty for not bringing an
- 13:34Speaker 4: octopus ball?
- 13:35Speaker 1: Every couple of weeks. You know, my mom always brings
- 13:37Speaker 1: a cheese ball, but she couldn't bring it. If you
- 13:40Speaker 1: can convince me.
- 13:42Speaker 7: Isn't that what Halle Berry won.
- 13:45Speaker 6: The Oscar for?
- 13:46Speaker 12: Octopus Ball.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Are we ready to make it official?
- 13:51Speaker 12: It's a fancy affair. Alright, we've got the bacon tux going.
- 13:59Speaker 1: We're all set now.
- 14:01Speaker 12: Alright, so welcome back to this year's Oscar Meltdown edition
- 14:04Speaker 12: of Sofa Theater. As some of you know, we usually
- 14:07Speaker 12: pick a film that is quite different than what the
- 14:10Speaker 12: Oscars would normally honor. So pretty much every year I've
- 14:14Speaker 12: found a good way to tie it into the Oscars,
- 14:17Speaker 12: usually the Honorary Oscar Awards. So this year they're honoring
- 14:22Speaker 12: stuntman director Hal Needham, and I thought it would be
- 14:25Speaker 12: perfect to do the movie Hooper.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Is your tie bacon?
- 14:30Speaker 12: Have you just joined this party?
- 14:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:35Speaker 8: In case you get hungry you look down you got
- 14:37Speaker 8: snack and.
- 14:37Speaker 12: Honey we have our mascot babe sounds like a pickup
- 14:41Speaker 12: line excuse me sir is that tie made of bacon.
- 14:46Speaker 6: Are you just glad to see me many.
- 14:48Speaker 12: Is the time so yeah I thought you know number
- 14:53Speaker 12: one it is sort of you know it's directed by
- 14:56Speaker 12: Hal Needham it's about the greatest stuntman in the world
- 14:59Speaker 12: which is how he was built so I'm assuming a
- 15:01Speaker 12: lot of it sort of mirrors his life as well
- 15:04Speaker 12: And I just thought covering a Burt Reynolds movie during
- 15:06Speaker 12: the Oscars.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Was just funny.
- 15:09Speaker 3: He was nominated.
- 15:10Speaker 6: Or at any other time.
- 15:11Speaker 4: And he looked extremely, extremely disappointed when he didn't win.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Probably not nominated.
- 15:16Speaker 6: That was his greatest acting moment. He was not disappointed
- 15:20Speaker 6: at all.
- 15:21Speaker 12: In this era, he was probably not nominated.
- 15:24Speaker 1: In the run of Smokey the Bandit.
- 15:28Speaker 6: His greatest role was Boogie Nights. See, that's the comeback.
- 15:32Speaker 28: Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 1: That's when it made sense again. Just come back a pun.
- 15:36Speaker 21: No.
- 15:37Speaker 1: No, it's not.
- 15:39Speaker 15: Gross.
- 15:39Speaker 6: Pun intended or not.
- 15:41Speaker 10: Someone finally looked at us like, they just looked at
- 15:43Speaker 10: us like, it's time we finally put that porn statue
- 15:45Speaker 10: to good use, sir.
- 15:46Speaker 1: We got to, we have to cast you literally as
- 15:48Speaker 1: a porn director.
- 15:49Speaker 9: Yeah, man.
- 15:50Speaker 12: I had the pleasure of eating a piece of pizza.
- 15:54Speaker 3: That's a great story.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Where is this going?
- 15:58Speaker 27: Eating a piece of pizza under a gigantic painting of
- 16:01Speaker 27: a naked Burt Reynolds.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 16:03Speaker 8: That's a totally normal story.
- 16:04Speaker 1: We've had pizza in Louisville then.
- 16:06Speaker 12: We're going to go hang out there and just record
- 16:08Speaker 12: underneath him. So, officially, this week's Sofa Theater feature is Hooper,
- 16:13Speaker 12: the year is 1978, director Hal Needham, the plot, according
- 16:18Speaker 12: to IMDb, Sonny Hooper, Hollywood's greatest stuntman, deals with his
- 16:22Speaker 12: relationship with the daughter of his mentor, a challenge from
- 16:25Speaker 12: a young stuntman who idolizes him in the egomaniacal... You
- 16:30Speaker 12: know that one.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Egomaniacal.
- 16:32Speaker 12: There you go.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Ennio Morricone.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Yes.
- 16:34Speaker 1: We're cutting you off, Brian. You've had too much to drink.
- 16:38Speaker 1: You can't stop me.
- 16:39Speaker 6: Inigo Montoya.
- 16:41Speaker 9: Nice.
- 16:41Speaker 12: That guy is the director of his latest movie.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 12: He ultimately attempts to perform a record-breaking jump over a
- 16:50Speaker 12: gorge in a rocket-propelled car.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Spoiler alert.
- 16:53Speaker 12: Yeah, that's how they summarize that movie.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So, nice going.
- 16:57Speaker 4: So, the Simpsons ripped it off in that first season
- 17:00Speaker 4: episode with the skateboard involved.
- 17:03Speaker 6: Yeah, that was a great father-son moment.
- 17:05Speaker 12: There's been a few things that kind of got ripped off.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 17:10Speaker 6: There really isn't a No, you're pretty far into it,
- 17:15Speaker 6: and you're going, is there a story going to start
- 17:18Speaker 6: somewhere here? Yeah, halfway.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And they kind of do.
- 17:21Speaker 12: By the halfway point, it does. But really, that first
- 17:23Speaker 12: half just seems like they strung together, Bert hanging out
- 17:27Speaker 12: with his friends.
- 17:27Speaker 6: It's just, this is the life of the stuntman. And
- 17:30Speaker 6: they have the song, Sing Ho for the Life of
- 17:32Speaker 6: the Stuntman.
- 17:33Speaker 4: If you see a lot of those stunt films from,
- 17:35Speaker 4: especially how they came out of Australia a lot in
- 17:37Speaker 4: the 70s and early 80s, there really isn't.
- 17:40Speaker 6: It's just a series of, stunts, gags.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Yeah, that's about it.
- 17:44Speaker 12: Yeah, I like that that, I guess, was their official
- 17:48Speaker 12: term for it.
- 17:49Speaker 1: They kept using the term gags for it.
- 17:52Speaker 4: At least stunt rock would cut our way to rock
- 17:55Speaker 4: concerts in between the stunts.
- 17:57Speaker 12: I mean, it starts off almost sort of serious. It
- 18:00Speaker 12: goes with him preparing for the day, and he's, like,
- 18:03Speaker 12: putting on all these pads, and you see all these
- 18:05Speaker 12: scars of previous horrible things that have happened to him.
- 18:09Speaker 12: So it seems like they're actually going to, like, address,
- 18:11Speaker 12: you know, the hard life of a stuntman, and it
- 18:14Speaker 12: then just veers off, and it's Burt being goofy for
- 18:16Speaker 12: another half hour.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Or these parody Jaws, to where, you know, he's showing
- 18:20Speaker 4: off his scars to some other stuntman.
- 18:22Speaker 6: Well, I was thinking for, like, the Oscars, reminds me
- 18:26Speaker 6: of the orgasm scars, the O-scars, the scene from, uh,
- 18:31Speaker 6: Chasing Amy, where it's all scars that have been incurred
- 18:36Speaker 6: in the pursuit of orgasm. Uh, It's just an idea
- 18:41Speaker 6: for a theme if we want to do a show
- 18:43Speaker 6: on scars.
- 18:44Speaker 1: On orgasms? Are we going to show all of our scars?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Emotional or otherwise. Actually, I met.
- 18:51Speaker 6: My hand scar twin once in Mississippi. He had the
- 18:56Speaker 6: exact same pattern of little scars on his left hand
- 19:00Speaker 6: that I have. And we kept looking at it because
- 19:03Speaker 6: we couldn't believe it. It's like, you've got this little
- 19:06Speaker 6: V-shaped thing.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yeah. You've got this scar.
- 19:08Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 19:09Speaker 6: And you've also got the continuation.
- 19:11Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Are you sure he wasn't you from the future or
- 19:13Speaker 6: the past?
- 19:14Speaker 12: He was.
- 19:16Speaker 6: From a place that didn't exist, but it came to
- 19:18Speaker 6: exist again later. Are you sure you weren't just stoned
- 19:21Speaker 6: in Lost River Caves smoking asbestos lime? I wasn't stoned.
- 19:26Speaker 6: I was in grad school, which is sort of the
- 19:28Speaker 6: same thing. He was my grad school teacher, and he
- 19:32Speaker 6: was from Latvia. And he had gone to the Rhode
- 19:35Speaker 6: Island School of Design. And one day we were just
- 19:38Speaker 6: doing it. And it's like, wow, I've got that same scar.
- 19:41Speaker 6: And he had the weirdest accent because he was from Latvia.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Then he went to Rhode Island School of Design. And
- 19:47Speaker 6: then he was teaching in Mississippi. Oxford, Mississippi.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And he was like, oh, yeah. It was kind of southern,
- 19:55Speaker 1: but weird.
- 19:58Speaker 6: Yeah. And he had a better story for each one. Like,
- 20:00Speaker 6: I got this scar here using a razor blade to open.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It's on his thumb.
- 20:05Speaker 6: Like a bottle of. What was that goop you could
- 20:09Speaker 6: mold spiders with back in the 70s?
- 20:14Speaker 1: Wasn't it just called goop?
- 20:15Speaker 6: I think it was called goop. But it had dried
- 20:18Speaker 6: up at the top, and so I was cutting it
- 20:20Speaker 6: open so I could make one last arachne whatever. And
- 20:27Speaker 6: I cut my hand open, and he was like, I
- 20:29Speaker 6: was peeling potatoes in Latvia.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Okay, you beat me on that one.
- 20:36Speaker 6: But basically all my life, all my hand scars are
- 20:39Speaker 6: my right hand stabbing my left hand. So in some
- 20:44Speaker 6: sort of Tarantino dream, one night in my sleep, my
- 20:48Speaker 6: left hand is going to take revenge and cut off
- 20:51Speaker 6: my right hand because it's been abused.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Like all my life.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Hooper.
- 20:59Speaker 6: Hooper.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Stuntman.
- 21:00Speaker 15: Scars.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Scars.
- 21:02Speaker 6: Hooper.
- 21:03Speaker 17: All right.
- 21:03Speaker 12: So do we want to address the cast? Because it
- 21:07Speaker 12: is kind of a stellar cast for this kind of movie.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Sally Field. Oh my lord.
- 21:12Speaker 12: Rarely see an openly sexual Sally.
- 21:15Speaker 1: When she hopped in his lap, I was like, Sally Fiat,
- 21:19Speaker 1: let's go.
- 21:19Speaker 6: It's funny because I never had that.
- 21:22Speaker 12: She was always cute, but I never got that. Like
- 21:25Speaker 12: you were saying, it was never a very sexual thing
- 21:27Speaker 12: with her.
- 21:27Speaker 1: She was always a little too.
- 21:28Speaker 6: Until Sybil, and then it's like, that's kind of kinky.
- 21:31Speaker 12: You have your own special thing going on there. But
- 21:34Speaker 12: she was always almost too girl next to her.
- 21:36Speaker 1: She really didn't come off sexual.
- 21:38Speaker 19: This one.
- 21:39Speaker 12: Those shorts she was wearing. You couldn't get away with
- 21:42Speaker 12: that out in public now. They would probably put you
- 21:44Speaker 12: away for that.
- 21:45Speaker 6: Her stepfather actually was like, what, Jock, what's his name?
- 21:51Speaker 6: The guy played by Brian Dennehy?
- 21:54Speaker 1: That wasn't Brian Dennehy. Who was that guy?
- 21:57Speaker 6: We can't play that game this time because I can't
- 21:59Speaker 6: get online.
- 21:59Speaker 1: There's the guy from Family.
- 22:01Speaker 12: Charles Darny?
- 22:02Speaker 9: No.
- 22:02Speaker 1: It wasn't Charles Darny.
- 22:03Speaker 9: It was close.
- 22:04Speaker 7: It's David Keith.
- 22:04Speaker 3: The guy from Family.
- 22:05Speaker 2: David Keith.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Brian Keith.
- 22:06Speaker 6: Brian Keith.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Keith David. Not Keith David.
- 22:09Speaker 6: Brian Keith.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Brian Keith.
- 22:11Speaker 9: Brian.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Brian.
- 22:13Speaker 1: For David. David Keith.
- 22:14Speaker 6: All right, David.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Brian Keith. Brian Keith.
- 22:17Speaker 9: Yes.
- 22:17Speaker 6: Yeah, but the character he was playing was actually Sally
- 22:20Speaker 6: Field's stepfather. I didn't know that.
- 22:23Speaker 9: Yeah. Wow.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Charles Darny.
- 22:25Speaker 6: And I think he was actually in it somewhere.
- 22:28Speaker 1: At some point, yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 6: I saw the thing about it online somewhere, and it's like, oh,
- 22:34Speaker 6: he was in there somewhere.
- 22:35Speaker 4: According to the time, Brian Dennehy and Charles Durning had
- 22:38Speaker 4: a love affair.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Yes.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Am I following the point? That's the plot so far.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And their baby was Sally Field.
- 22:43Speaker 12: How would you tell the two apart when.
- 22:45Speaker 1: That's going on? They have the same hands.
- 22:48Speaker 12: Their love child was Sally Field.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Well, they liked her. They really liked her. That came
- 22:54Speaker 1: out okay. And I had to even note to Brian
- 22:58Speaker 1: when I was watching it on that James Best was
- 23:01Speaker 1: in this. Corden, Indiana's own James Best. That's all they have, Dan.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Roscoe P. Coltrane. And he was the best sidekick in
- 23:11Speaker 1: the world in this movie.
- 23:12Speaker 12: To me, it's funny because it felt like, well, we
- 23:15Speaker 12: can't get Jerry Reed for this movie.
- 23:16Speaker 1: What the hell are we going to do?
- 23:18Speaker 12: Where's that Roscoe P. Coltrane dude? I think he's down
- 23:21Speaker 12: the road.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Let's get him.
- 23:22Speaker 12: He really, like, it really did feel like he was
- 23:24Speaker 12: the surrogate Jerry Reed.
- 23:26Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 23:27Speaker 6: So, before Burt Reynolds, was there a genre of action comedy?
- 23:34Speaker 6: Or was he, like, really a pioneer of something that's, like,
- 23:38Speaker 6: an action picture?
- 23:39Speaker 21: But, eh.
- 23:41Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 23:42Speaker 1: It's sort of funny.
- 23:43Speaker 29: I don't know.
- 23:44Speaker 6: Because as a leading guy in sort of action pictures,
- 23:47Speaker 6: Burt Reynolds is kind of vulnerable. He's not like Clint Eastwood.
- 23:51Speaker 9: Right.
- 23:52Speaker 1: He is liable to get his ass kicked. Right. Yeah,
- 23:55Speaker 1: he does get his ass kicked.
- 23:56Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 23:57Speaker 6: By what? Terry Bradshaw?
- 23:59Speaker 1: Terry Bradshaw with a horrible off-color toupee.
- 24:02Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Which was even better.
- 24:05Speaker 6: That's the thing I kind of like about Burt Reynolds
- 24:07Speaker 6: is he had a sense of humor about himself as
- 24:10Speaker 6: an action figure. And so he's like a forerunner of
- 24:14Speaker 6: like the Jackie Chan kind of action hero. A guy
- 24:17Speaker 6: who seems like a regular guy who's pretty nice, really. But,
- 24:23Speaker 6: you know, he just chews gum constantly. And I can't
- 24:26Speaker 6: help rooting for him to get his ass kicked.
- 24:29Speaker 1: You know, I proposed to Brian that we all actually record,
- 24:32Speaker 1: not say anything, but just record the episode with our
- 24:35Speaker 1: mouths open chewing gum.
- 24:36Speaker 12: I have a real issue with gum chewing.
- 24:40Speaker 1: It puts me off.
- 24:42Speaker 6: And so Burt Reynolds, and I think that's too, maybe
- 24:45Speaker 6: like the constant gum chewing issue. is why he has
- 24:48Speaker 6: those fucking furrows in his brow.
- 24:51Speaker 12: I've heard him mention it himself.
- 24:56Speaker 6: He says, you know, well, there are cameramen on set
- 24:59Speaker 6: that are better looking than me.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I have these fucking rows in my forehead.
- 25:03Speaker 12: And it's like, oh, yeah. Dude, that's wicked.
- 25:07Speaker 6: What happened?
- 25:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny.
- 25:09Speaker 12: I was looking at it and I was like, they
- 25:11Speaker 12: were already pretty hardcore. And it's like, it's different if
- 25:13Speaker 12: that was like the 90s and he looked like that.
- 25:15Speaker 12: But this was the 70s and he already looked like that.
- 25:17Speaker 6: And he was in really good shape. But what happened
- 25:20Speaker 6: to his forehead? That dude's done some serious worrying.
- 25:23Speaker 1: It's because I think he started out using his eyebrows differently.
- 25:27Speaker 1: To express everything. Because his mouth is full of gum.
- 25:31Speaker 1: And so all that eyebrow movement developed those deep canals
- 25:35Speaker 1: in his forehead. You know, speaking of looking like Burt Reynolds,
- 25:40Speaker 1: how fun was it to see them dress up Adam
- 25:43Speaker 1: West as Burt Reynolds? I know.
- 25:46Speaker 6: And it's kind of funny because really, stuntmen have the
- 25:50Speaker 6: personalities that you would expect leading actors to have. But
- 25:55Speaker 6: leading actors are usually kind of shy and retiring. But
- 26:00Speaker 6: the stunt guys are actually the guys who walk around
- 26:03Speaker 6: like they're movie stars. So it's sort of fitting for
- 26:08Speaker 6: Burt Reynolds to do that. Not that Adam West was
- 26:11Speaker 6: a stuntman. It didn't fit at all, though.
- 26:14Speaker 12: Even when they had him made up to sort of
- 26:16Speaker 12: look like him, I was like, that looks so.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Oh, it looks so bad. Did he even have the mustache?
- 26:20Speaker 1: At one point, he didn't even have it.
- 26:22Speaker 12: I guess maybe he forgot to wear it because they
- 26:25Speaker 12: were shooting or something.
- 26:27Speaker 1: In the first scene, he did, after the motorcycle crashed.
- 26:30Speaker 1: But then the other one... He didn't.
- 26:33Speaker 12: Because I was thinking, if I was watching that in
- 26:35Speaker 12: the theater, I'd be like, there's the stuntman. Wow.
- 26:37Speaker 1: He does not look at all like Adam West. Yeah.
- 26:41Speaker 1: But I loved how they forced the sexuality on him.
- 26:43Speaker 1: It was like, well, we can't make him the sex symbol,
- 26:46Speaker 1: so we're just going to put two beautiful women on
- 26:48Speaker 1: him at all times and make him the sex symbol.
- 26:52Speaker 9: Wow.
- 26:52Speaker 1: He's Adam West. He's Adam West. He has that anywhere
- 26:55Speaker 1: he goes, really. For some reason right now, Sally Fields
- 26:59Speaker 1: is helping Joseph Gordon-Levitt fix his bow tie.
- 27:02Speaker 8: Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
- 27:03Speaker 6: They're pretty tight.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Is it a bacon bow tie? That's probably the only reason.
- 27:09Speaker 12: That's because you become a family when you get involved
- 27:13Speaker 12: in the little Oscar circles, as I was told.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Yeah, by someone who's done it before.
- 27:18Speaker 10: I hope they all go in character as their characters
- 27:20Speaker 10: from Lincoln. It's like she's straightening his tie. It's like, now, son,
- 27:23Speaker 10: we have to look good for this ceremony.
- 27:25Speaker 1: You know, I know.
- 27:27Speaker 6: So somebody's going to shoot Daniel Day-Lewis during the office.
- 27:30Speaker 8: Exactly.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Um, so, and as, he is character.
- 27:34Speaker 8: And since we are talking after it's happened, yes, that's
- 27:36Speaker 8: what happened.
- 27:37Speaker 10: So yeah, that was, that sucks.
- 27:40Speaker 12: Um, Daniel Day-Lewis is dead.
- 27:42Speaker 6: So I listened to this podcast that I wasn't on.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Don't ever do that.
- 27:48Speaker 6: People who died over the past year.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Okay. You can listen to that one. Okay.
- 27:54Speaker 6: Um, And somebody who didn't come up that I'd like
- 27:57Speaker 6: to bring up, and this will become Hooper-related somehow.
- 28:04Speaker 12: I don't know how at this moment, but it's going
- 28:07Speaker 12: to go there.
- 28:07Speaker 1: This is how all our conversations go.
- 28:09Speaker 12: Yeah, but.
- 28:14Speaker 2: What's his name?
- 28:15Speaker 1: Died this past year.
- 28:17Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 6: You know what I mean?
- 28:18Speaker 1: He played a lot of that game. What's his name?
- 28:21Speaker 1: Seems one of my favorites. Gore Vidal.
- 28:24Speaker 9: Oh.
- 28:24Speaker 12: Gore Vidal died.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Yeah, Gore Vidal was one I remember regretting not mentioning
- 28:29Speaker 4: on that show, along with David Kelly, who played one
- 28:32Speaker 4: of the other leads on Waking Dead Divine and The
- 28:34Speaker 4: Grandfather on Charlie and the Chocolate Factor.
- 28:36Speaker 1: He died early on, too, and it dawned on me afterwards.
- 28:38Speaker 4: I was like, shit, I should have mentioned him instead
- 28:40Speaker 4: of Pat Engle, who died like 10 years prior.
- 28:43Speaker 1: We were just laying off on that one.
- 28:45Speaker 6: Gore Vidal was like, he was just a writer, but
- 28:48Speaker 6: he had a Lincoln. They did Gore Vidal's Lincoln, and
- 28:52Speaker 6: we lived in Richmond, Virginia when they filmed it there,
- 28:54Speaker 6: so we knew two guys who were in it. And
- 28:57Speaker 6: Mary Tyler Moore was Mary Todd Lincoln.
- 29:00Speaker 12: And that guy from Law and Order was Lincoln.
- 29:04Speaker 9: What?
- 29:05Speaker 6: Yeah, but... Oh, and also, Gore Vidal wrote what is
- 29:10Speaker 6: believed by many experts to be the worst movie of
- 29:13Speaker 6: all time, Myra Breckenridge.
- 29:17Speaker 9: And.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Even if it's not the worst movie of all time,
- 29:21Speaker 6: he said himself, it's the one time when a book
- 29:23Speaker 6: was made into a movie, sales of the book stopped.
- 29:29Speaker 1: The book was doing quite well. They made the movie.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Nobody bought the book again.
- 29:35Speaker 28: They ruined it.
- 29:36Speaker 6: I feel like he was one of the better people
- 29:37Speaker 6: in Gattaca as well.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 8: Like the outro.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Uma Thurman and the.
- 29:42Speaker 26: Rest of them.
- 29:43Speaker 12: I'm serious. He was involved in movies.
- 29:49Speaker 6: He played a liberal senator kind of like Paul Simon
- 29:53Speaker 6: with a bow tie.
- 29:54Speaker 1: It wasn't bacon.
- 29:55Speaker 6: He wore a bow tie in Bob Roberts movie.
- 29:59Speaker 12: I think it was in Bob Roberts.
- 30:01Speaker 1: It was just a.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Little bit parts here and there, almost like for fun.
- 30:04Speaker 4: It's like the Ricky Jay, but instead of magic, authorship. Yeah,
- 30:09Speaker 4: like Ricky Jay, one of my heroes. But I'm just
- 30:12Speaker 4: glad Ricky Jay got mentioned.
- 30:15Speaker 6: Now we're going to start throwing cards at one another.
- 30:17Speaker 12: Yeah, I know.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Ricky Jay. It's going to get violent.
- 30:20Speaker 12: Into the husk of the watermelon.
- 30:22Speaker 9: Exactly.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Oh, I love that.
- 30:24Speaker 6: But anyway.
- 30:25Speaker 1: We're going to stop podcasting now, getting some cards.
- 30:26Speaker 6: We're going to The other thing that Gore Vidal did
- 30:30Speaker 6: was he wrote a gay subplot into Ben-Hur and nobody
- 30:34Speaker 6: ever told Charlton Heston about it. And he explained, you know,
- 30:39Speaker 6: how the writing attribution, how you get credit for writing,
- 30:43Speaker 6: and he wrote this part and he said, and it's
- 30:45Speaker 6: like a betrayed lover, but it's not explicit, but it
- 30:49Speaker 6: will make sense emotionally to the audience. But Don't tell
- 30:53Speaker 6: Chuck about it.
- 30:55Speaker 1: He will not be comfortable.
- 30:57Speaker 6: Yeah, so he came out of that thing where they
- 30:59Speaker 6: wrote the live teleplays on TV in the 50s, and.
- 31:03Speaker 1: They're not, I don't think they're even recorded.
- 31:06Speaker 6: But he was kind of a good movie writer, but
- 31:10Speaker 6: he believed Myra Breckenridge was a really good novel.
- 31:15Speaker 1: To his death.
- 31:16Speaker 12: It's kind of like, don't tell Chuck.
- 31:19Speaker 6: Don't tell Gore Vidal that this book is really horrible.
- 31:24Speaker 6: And it deserved to be a terrible movie because it's
- 31:27Speaker 6: really bad.
- 31:28Speaker 3: It's funny, though.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I wouldn't say don't buy it.
- 31:33Speaker 6: But, yeah, he was a great guy in a lot
- 31:36Speaker 6: of ways. I read a lot of his essays when
- 31:39Speaker 6: I was a kid, and they really influenced me.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I didn't understand it at the time.
- 31:43Speaker 6: I just thought, wow, these are really intellectual and insightful
- 31:48Speaker 6: and political. But what they really were was they were
- 31:56Speaker 6: half infatuated with rationality and half bitchy. And I came
- 32:04Speaker 6: to believe that that's what being a rational citizen was,
- 32:11Speaker 6: was being kind of like an old gay queen bitching
- 32:15Speaker 6: about shit but making a lot of sense while doing.
- 32:18Speaker 1: It which i got that a lot from hooper yeah
- 32:21Speaker 1: you know 17 degrees.
- 32:27Speaker 30: Of hooper yes come to its final you know it's
- 32:31Speaker 30: there you've got the new young guy coming in and
- 32:34Speaker 30: you're just well this is how this is how it
- 32:37Speaker 30: is and this is how it was when you came
- 32:38Speaker 30: in replaced me and they're just bitching about all the
- 32:41Speaker 30: times that they had gone through and How they were
- 32:43Speaker 30: the pioneers but didn't make the money.
- 32:45Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Same thing. Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 6: Just like all those old guys who played baseball. And
- 32:51Speaker 6: they just played baseball. They didn't make any real money.
- 32:54Speaker 6: And nowadays, like, one player makes more than, like, five
- 32:57Speaker 6: of them made in a lifetime.
- 33:00Speaker 1: But I don't know.
- 33:00Speaker 6: There's something beautiful about it. It's the life of the
- 33:04Speaker 6: stuntman before they made real money.
- 33:08Speaker 12: That's kind of how they work this it is sort
- 33:10Speaker 12: of that mythology of it that it is this like
- 33:13Speaker 12: legendary thing back in the day and this new kid
- 33:15Speaker 12: he's got a calculator and it's just it's really everything
- 33:20Speaker 12: like a calculator?
- 33:21Speaker 7: It was his pocket.
- 33:21Speaker 6: Computer is what it was Jerry Seinfeld gave it to
- 33:26Speaker 6: him at first it was just calculating.
- 33:28Speaker 12: Tips but it does much more than that the bad
- 33:30Speaker 12: part was he couldn't open it yeah who is.
- 33:34Speaker 3: That guy Jan?
- 33:36Speaker 1: Michael J. Michael Vincent Airwolf what with Ernest Borgnine he
- 33:41Speaker 1: was on Airwolf with Ernest Borgnine Airwolf he.
- 33:44Speaker 6: Was in a lot of stuff I knew I'd seen
- 33:46Speaker 6: him a lot and he looks like an actual guy
- 33:48Speaker 6: I actually know so there's that familiarity too I think.
- 33:52Speaker 1: He looked like I think everybody thought he was going
- 33:55Speaker 1: to be he was going to blow up bigger than
- 33:57Speaker 1: anyone ever and he never really took for.
- 33:59Speaker 12: Some reason and he probably should have like he wasn't
- 34:01Speaker 12: a bad actor and he was definitely like you know
- 34:03Speaker 12: he had the looks and he was like He did
- 34:06Speaker 12: the action stuff.
- 34:07Speaker 1: But yeah, it's like he just never caught on. I
- 34:08Speaker 1: think it's because his name was Jan. Could be. That's
- 34:11Speaker 1: the problem. That, and he had a feminine underbite.
- 34:13Speaker 12: And he always went around going, Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.
- 34:17Speaker 1: I think if he would have just gone John Michael Vincent,
- 34:19Speaker 1: he probably would have been a bigger.
- 34:20Speaker 12: Just drop one of those three names.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Or, yeah, right. Yeah, you can't have three person names.
- 34:24Speaker 6: The whole three name thing.
- 34:25Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 34:25Speaker 12: It's overdone.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Yeah, three names, that's a chick thing, too.
- 34:28Speaker 6: Yeah, that's... There are all those chicks that have three names.
- 34:31Speaker 1: That's an 80s chick thing.
- 34:32Speaker 6: You don't get much of an out-to-go-ther.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Or, that's how... Child stars do. They have to go
- 34:37Speaker 1: by all three of their names. In serial killers.
- 34:39Speaker 6: You know, I'm going to call you out, dude. Were
- 34:42Speaker 6: you on an episode and you said something about a
- 34:45Speaker 6: movie should have a young Ricky Schroeder in it?
- 34:50Speaker 9: I did.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I believe he did.
- 34:50Speaker 12: Yeah, that's redundant.
- 34:51Speaker 1: That's redundant.
- 34:53Speaker 31: He became Rick Schroeder when he grew up. A young
- 34:57Speaker 31: Ricky Schroeder. You're saying it twice. I still refer to
- 35:02Speaker 31: him as Ricky Schroeder. When he went to NYPD Blue.
- 35:07Speaker 1: He was Rick. It was a big deal to him.
- 35:11Speaker 6: I think he did press conferences announcing that he was
- 35:15Speaker 6: now Rick Schroeder. P.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Denny Schroeder.
- 35:19Speaker 1: This is my new name. Droppin' the Y.
- 35:25Speaker 7: Or Snoop Lion.
- 35:26Speaker 6: And that was his CD he released at that time.
- 35:29Speaker 1: It was called Rick Schroeder, Droppin' the Y.
- 35:36Speaker 12: I did not know that.
- 35:37Speaker 1: I did not know that. Him and Alfonso Ribeiro that
- 35:43Speaker 1: was on Silver Spoons with him, he was his DJ
- 35:45Speaker 1: on that album. It's so great to find out. He
- 35:49Speaker 1: was kind of his jazzy Jeff. exactly I'm the DJ
- 35:52Speaker 1: he's the word full circle Alfonso Ribeiro played Carlton on
- 35:56Speaker 1: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air it all comes back around
- 35:58Speaker 1: how do you I mean it just that's how the
- 36:00Speaker 1: world works it's a symbiosis and I think Burt Reynolds
- 36:04Speaker 1: produced it I'm.
- 36:06Speaker 25: Pretty sure that's that's your tie in that's where you're going.
- 36:10Speaker 1: With this yeah Burt Reynolds, man.
- 36:13Speaker 6: That guy. And they showed actual film from Deliverance.
- 36:17Speaker 1: And I'm watching that.
- 36:19Speaker 6: Is that Deliverance? Oh, and they showed him having a
- 36:21Speaker 6: big scar on his shin in the opening thing. It's like,
- 36:25Speaker 6: is that where he broke his leg in Deliverance? Is
- 36:29Speaker 6: that the bone sticking out of his leg?
- 36:32Speaker 1: I think that's what it was supposed to be. That's
- 36:34Speaker 1: back when he was the good actor. And then it
- 36:37Speaker 1: veered off for about 30 years.
- 36:39Speaker 12: Yeah, when he was just like.
- 36:42Speaker 6: Fun action comedy guy. He's likable enough.
- 36:46Speaker 12: He is.
- 36:46Speaker 8: It's one of those.
- 36:47Speaker 12: It just enters into that weird area. It really is
- 36:51Speaker 12: its own little thing. And it doesn't... Like we said
- 36:53Speaker 12: with this one, it doesn't even feel like a movie
- 36:55Speaker 12: as much as you're just watching.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Bert hang out with his friends.
- 36:57Speaker 12: And as you watch it, it gets worse and worse as.
- 36:59Speaker 1: You get to the Cannonball Run movies. And it really
- 37:02Speaker 1: is just like.
- 37:03Speaker 12: They shoot as much time on the outtakes as they
- 37:06Speaker 12: do on the movie at the end of the movie.
- 37:08Speaker 1: It's just like after the bar scene, they all go
- 37:11Speaker 1: to his house to have a party. They probably didn't
- 37:14Speaker 1: script that.
- 37:15Speaker 6: They just went to his house and have a party.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Let's go watch Deliverance.
- 37:19Speaker 7: Let's watch footage of me.
- 37:22Speaker 3: I'm awesome.
- 37:24Speaker 12: It's so 70s.
- 37:25Speaker 6: Like, Glenn watched it with me and she was like,
- 37:28Speaker 6: it's just worth seeing just because of It's so 70s.
- 37:31Speaker 12: It's so quintessentially 70s.
- 37:35Speaker 6: And like the 70s, they do things that you just
- 37:38Speaker 6: totally really cannot approve of as a human being.
- 37:42Speaker 12: But we did.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Like the dog?
- 37:46Speaker 6: Like hooking the cable onto the cop's belt.
- 37:50Speaker 1: You're gonna kill somebody.
- 37:52Speaker 3: I know. I was there.
- 37:54Speaker 1: People died.
- 37:55Speaker 6: People I grew up with died doing stupid shit like that.
- 37:59Speaker 1: The thing was is they did that to him and
- 38:00Speaker 1: they didn't even think about the consequences. He's got his license.
- 38:04Speaker 1: They know that Kyle's probably going to be on disability
- 38:08Speaker 1: for the rest of his life with a bad back.
- 38:11Speaker 12: There were a lot of moments where I was like, okay,
- 38:13Speaker 12: he's crossed the line from being a fun guy to
- 38:17Speaker 12: being kind of a dick. That one was bad, but
- 38:19Speaker 12: breaking the jukebox?
- 38:21Speaker 1: I was like, what the hell is that?
- 38:22Speaker 6: Breaking the jukebox or driving recklessly through crowds of innocent
- 38:27Speaker 6: people who came out to have fun?
- 38:28Speaker 1: Or towards the end, like.
- 38:31Speaker 1: They're hauling that wall through it. He just drives through it.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I'm like, how long did it take him to.
- 38:35Speaker 7: Build that wall?
- 38:36Speaker 12: And you just drove through it, you dick.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I know, and he's being a complete dick.
- 38:40Speaker 6: At some point, you just want to punch him in
- 38:42Speaker 6: the face.
- 38:42Speaker 1: It's all because he couldn't commit to Sally Field. He
- 38:47Speaker 1: really wanted Jan Michael Vincent.
- 38:48Speaker 9: Yes.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I mean, there really is a gay subtext to it. Anyway,
- 38:52Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 38:55Speaker 1: There was a gay subtext to the 70s. To his mustache. Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 6: And I've got nothing against being gay, but I'm pathologically straight.
- 39:06Speaker 1: Not that there's anything wrong with that.
- 39:07Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 39:08Speaker 6: But I'm pathologically straight, and living through the 70s was
- 39:11Speaker 6: like a living hell for me. I just couldn't relate.
- 39:15Speaker 6: You didn't want to swing?
- 39:16Speaker 12: Come on, man.
- 39:19Speaker 6: I did like the key parties.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Well, I didn't want to.
- 39:22Speaker 12: Tell you how this is all going to come together
- 39:25Speaker 12: at the end of this show.
- 39:26Speaker 6: People bring that up as something people did that was wild,
- 39:29Speaker 6: and I'm like, yeah, my assistant principal in high school
- 39:32Speaker 6: did that. That doesn't seem wild or appealing to me.
- 39:37Speaker 1: You know, and the funny point of reference that it's
- 39:42Speaker 1: that far back in history, socially, and Jock at that
- 39:46Speaker 1: time is going... Look, even the gays are getting married now.
- 39:49Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 39:50Speaker 13: Oh, yeah.
- 39:51Speaker 12: I was like, that's come full circle.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Oh, they could drop that line and it was no
- 39:54Speaker 1: big deal. Yeah.
- 39:56Speaker 12: Well, I was like, now it's actually true.
- 39:58Speaker 6: Yeah, that was back in the era when people wondered,
- 40:02Speaker 6: why do gays have so much premarital sex?
- 40:05Speaker 12: Oh, right.
- 40:07Speaker 9: Right.
- 40:08Speaker 1: I see.
- 40:10Speaker 6: I thought it was something wrong with them, but it
- 40:12Speaker 6: turns out, yeah.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Why don't they ever get invited to one of their weddings?
- 40:17Speaker 6: That's crazy.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 40:18Speaker 1: They're such snobs.
- 40:23Speaker 12: Well, that was, again, for the weird time things. Like
- 40:26Speaker 12: the fact that maybe some of it just started to
- 40:28Speaker 12: creep in and become conscious to them because we almost
- 40:32Speaker 12: get like a drunk driving PSA for a minute. And
- 40:35Speaker 12: he specifically talks about how it's going to end up
- 40:39Speaker 12: bad and then they turn around and do it.
- 40:41Speaker 6: Yes.
- 40:43Speaker 12: And once again, act like a dick to the cop.
- 40:46Speaker 6: Yeah, there's this kind of... It's almost like the funny
- 40:50Speaker 6: guy in Fargo. Issue with authority of any form. You
- 40:55Speaker 6: have to just be an asshole to anybody wearing a
- 40:58Speaker 6: uniform of any kind.
- 41:00Speaker 12: Which doesn't even make sense for this guy. I mean,
- 41:03Speaker 12: he's a professional.
- 41:04Speaker 3: He's in showbiz.
- 41:05Speaker 1: He seems like a nice.
- 41:06Speaker 6: Guy in other ways, but then it's like, I feel
- 41:09Speaker 6: called upon to be a complete fucking dick.
- 41:12Speaker 9: Yep.
- 41:13Speaker 6: Just because of the zeitgeist of the era I live in.
- 41:17Speaker 12: I need to be a rebel. Yeah.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Even when it makes me a dick. And so I
- 41:21Speaker 1: need to shoot a parking lot attendant. You veered into
- 41:27Speaker 1: another movie.
- 41:27Speaker 12: But that's a different movie.
- 41:29Speaker 1: We're still talking about parking.
- 41:30Speaker 20: I don't believe I was going over 55.
- 41:33Speaker 8: You were going 55 backwards.
- 41:35Speaker 6: Well, that's not against the law, is it?
- 41:37Speaker 1: Unsafe packing.
- 41:39Speaker 6: Silly law.
- 41:40Speaker 15: It's still a law.
- 41:41Speaker 6: And the way he treated Sally Field. It's like, could
- 41:45Speaker 6: you at least get the fucking beer cans within 10
- 41:48Speaker 6: feet of the garbage?
- 41:50Speaker 1: He's like, why?
- 41:52Speaker 6: And he leaves his shit all over the house and
- 41:54Speaker 6: he's like, why couldn't you put that up?
- 41:56Speaker 12: You don't have much work to do. Meanwhile, she's the
- 41:59Speaker 12: school teacher, wasn't she?
- 42:01Speaker 6: Yeah, she's a fucking school teacher.
- 42:03Speaker 1: One stunt a day, that's it.
- 42:06Speaker 6: Yeah, he does a stunt and they're like, okay, you're
- 42:08Speaker 6: done for the year or whatever until you decide to
- 42:12Speaker 6: do something else. And he goes home and he's like,
- 42:15Speaker 6: why is my coat? Sitting where I fucking left it
- 42:19Speaker 6: this morning.
- 42:19Speaker 1: He turns into Archie Bunker.
- 42:21Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 42:22Speaker 9: God.
- 42:22Speaker 12: I don't know. Yeah, that was very 70s.
- 42:24Speaker 1: She was so hot. She really was. She really was.
- 42:28Speaker 6: Like, Chi-Chi, the flying nun.
- 42:30Speaker 12: She's like, I don't know, that's cool.
- 42:33Speaker 1: That she can be like that.
- 42:36Speaker 15: Rip the foil, Bo.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Rip it she wants. So when they finally get to
- 42:39Speaker 1: the plot, does it become like a film noir setup
- 42:43Speaker 1: that they've got one last one last job to do,
- 42:47Speaker 1: and we've got to complete this, and it's got to
- 42:48Speaker 1: be bigger than everything, and I'm going to retire after this.
- 42:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I want to see a movie where the director decides,
- 42:54Speaker 6: I'm going to use that cliched plot one last time
- 42:58Speaker 6: before I retire. And it's so crazy, it just might work.
- 43:03Speaker 1: The longest it's ever been done is this far, but
- 43:06Speaker 1: we're going to go four times that in a day.
- 43:12Speaker 12: Yeah, there's a lot about the end that I don't know.
- 43:15Speaker 12: What was that movie they were in? That's what I
- 43:18Speaker 12: was trying to figure out.
- 43:19Speaker 7: What the fuck was that movie?
- 43:20Speaker 1: There was guns blowing up stuff.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:22Speaker 1: But why is there... Okay, so mostly the big finale.
- 43:25Speaker 1: The rest of it, well, none of it really makes sense.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I'm like, why would you just randomly jump out of
- 43:29Speaker 1: a helicopter?
- 43:30Speaker 12: There's no setup as to why this character would randomly
- 43:33Speaker 12: jump out of a helicopter. And not have a giant
- 43:35Speaker 12: airbag to land on, which he did.
- 43:37Speaker 8: So wouldn't Adam West just be dead?
- 43:40Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 43:41Speaker 12: If you didn't see him landing on the airbag? Yeah. But, like,
- 43:45Speaker 12: by the time you get... Like, in the beginning, it's
- 43:46Speaker 12: just a spy movie. So they're, like, they're rappelling down
- 43:48Speaker 12: the wall part and shooting guys. That seems normal.
- 43:51Speaker 6: Oh, and they're playing, like, the 007.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Which is very close, yeah. It was, like, the spy
- 43:55Speaker 1: who knew too much or something like that. Or didn't
- 43:58Speaker 1: know quite enough.
- 44:00Speaker 9: No, I think that's what they called it, though.
- 44:01Speaker 1: It was, like, the spy... Spy misremembered that one thing.
- 44:07Speaker 6: I love it that the writer was angry that they
- 44:09Speaker 6: changed the ending on the spy.
- 44:12Speaker 12: This was my masterpiece. If you want to address that,
- 44:16Speaker 12: why is the director being such an arty dick?
- 44:20Speaker 3: Really?
- 44:20Speaker 12: Look at your spy movie. And he's just like, this
- 44:22Speaker 12: is the way I've envisioned the ending.
- 44:25Speaker 1: It won't be any other way.
- 44:27Speaker 12: He's got such artistic integrity in this exploding spy movie.
- 44:30Speaker 6: So this movie predicted Michael Bay.
- 44:33Speaker 12: Yeah, I think so.
- 44:34Speaker 8: But that's the end.
- 44:35Speaker 12: I'm like, okay, so everything up until rappelling down there,
- 44:38Speaker 12: shooting guys.
- 44:38Speaker 1: Okay, it's a spy movie.
- 44:39Speaker 12: I can see that. So at the end, the spies
- 44:41Speaker 12: are trying to get away from an earthquake.
- 44:44Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 44:44Speaker 6: Right. Yeah, all of a sudden.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Earthquake?
- 44:46Speaker 1: Yeah. All of a sudden it's shortcuts.
- 44:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I was like, why?
- 44:50Speaker 16: Well, obviously they just shot Earthquake and he just wanted
- 44:53Speaker 16: to tie in the reference to something sort of current.
- 44:56Speaker 16: But I was just like, what has this got to
- 44:58Speaker 16: do with a spy plot? How do you work at
- 45:00Speaker 16: Earthquake as the finale of your spy movie? Unless it
- 45:03Speaker 16: really is a Bond movie and the way he was
- 45:05Speaker 16: going to take over the world was in Earthquake.
- 45:08Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 1: He could have an Earthquake machine.
- 45:10Speaker 9: I guess.
- 45:11Speaker 12: I mean, they have giant lasers and shit. I think
- 45:13Speaker 12: you've written this movie. I think I have.
- 45:15Speaker 1: It's the spy who laughed at danger. Honestly.
- 45:20Speaker 6: Of course.
- 45:21Speaker 1: The spy who laughed at his own middle name.
- 45:24Speaker 6: Right.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:25Speaker 6: I can't watch Robert Klein for five minutes if he
- 45:28Speaker 6: doesn't do that sound effect, that whoo-hoo-hoo, like our host's bathroom.
- 45:37Speaker 6: It just makes me really uncomfortable. So that guy's name
- 45:40Speaker 6: is Brian Keith.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Brian David Keith.
- 45:43Speaker 12: From Family Affair.
- 45:44Speaker 9: Thank you.
- 45:45Speaker 12: Yes, he was from Family Affair.
- 45:47Speaker 1: He was the dad.
- 45:48Speaker 12: There was no Buffy and Jodie in this. There was
- 45:52Speaker 12: a butler, wasn't there?
- 45:55Speaker 1: Mr.
- 45:56Speaker 6: French.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Mr.
- 45:57Speaker 6: Belvedere.
- 45:58Speaker 2: God, man.
- 46:00Speaker 6: This is thrilling because these brain cells are just hanging
- 46:03Speaker 6: on the edge of a cliff clinging to twigs.
- 46:06Speaker 1: But what about Ms.
- 46:07Speaker 2: Beasley?
- 46:08Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, Ms.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Beasley.
- 46:09Speaker 12: Gotta get that straight.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Wow. I don't have anything else going on up here.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Wow.
- 46:15Speaker 12: That's all I have is useless nonsense.
- 46:17Speaker 1: And I can't call upon it most of.
- 46:22Speaker 6: The time.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:24Speaker 6: So they introduce a story which is basically, it's like elegiac.
- 46:28Speaker 6: It's like the end of a way of life for
- 46:31Speaker 6: this one guy in this cowboy-like profession of stuntman. And
- 46:40Speaker 6: there's like the young guys coming up and they've got
- 46:43Speaker 6: their pocket calculators.
- 46:45Speaker 1: And it's all different now.
- 46:46Speaker 6: They're different breed. They don't drink. They don't take pills.
- 46:51Speaker 6: They're better than we were. And he kind of hates them.
- 46:57Speaker 6: And it's funny when they talk about how they hate
- 46:59Speaker 6: him already. But they laugh. Because it's like, you know,
- 47:03Speaker 6: they know it's funny. That's kind of like that Bob
- 47:07Speaker 6: Dylan documentary. Like when they start telling him about Donovan,
- 47:12Speaker 6: and the keyboard player from The Animals says, oh, he's
- 47:17Speaker 6: a good guitar player, better than you. And Dylan goes,
- 47:20Speaker 6: already I hate it.
- 47:26Speaker 12: Well, what I think is the perfect example of how
- 47:30Speaker 12: this movie plays out, more than anything, and it's funny
- 47:33Speaker 12: that it just got.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Made, it's Skyfall.
- 47:36Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 47:37Speaker 12: It's nothing but you're the old pro. You've been doing
- 47:41Speaker 12: this all this time. You know the ways of.
- 47:43Speaker 10: These whole three movies you've done.
- 47:46Speaker 8: It's been a long journey.
- 47:48Speaker 12: You're the best in the business. And now they're bringing
- 47:50Speaker 12: up these new guys. And once again, your mentor is
- 47:53Speaker 12: also getting up there. So you watch her father injuring
- 47:58Speaker 12: himself and going to the hospital. So it's like it
- 48:00Speaker 12: already had that going on. Plus they work in that James.
- 48:03Speaker 1: Bond theme the whole time.
- 48:04Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 48:05Speaker 6: And then.
- 48:06Speaker 1: i don't know the whole thing.
- 48:07Speaker 12: Just seems like it's all about are you getting too
- 48:10Speaker 12: old to do this which is exactly what you know
- 48:12Speaker 12: the majority of skyfall is about so i thought it's
- 48:15Speaker 12: weird having i just me.
- 48:18Speaker 6: Too but i kind of felt like skyfall was pretending
- 48:21Speaker 6: to be about that because that was handy and they
- 48:24Speaker 6: felt like it needed to be about something yeah but
- 48:28Speaker 6: really it it's about like doesn't this guy look like
- 48:33Speaker 6: a really good James Bond in.
- 48:36Speaker 1: An vintage suit?
- 48:37Speaker 6: And it's like, yeah, yeah, start the fucking movie. He
- 48:42Speaker 6: looks like a great James Bond. I remember he was
- 48:46Speaker 6: once in Casino Royale. Are you going to do something
- 48:51Speaker 6: like that again?
- 48:52Speaker 1: No, no. Are you going to make a James Bond movie?
- 48:54Speaker 8: They're like, Yeah, we could, but remember that movie Straw Dogs?
- 48:57Speaker 1: That was pretty cool, right?
- 48:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that was cool.
- 48:59Speaker 1: You ever seen Home Alone?
- 49:00Speaker 8: You ever seen Home Alone?
- 49:01Speaker 12: It's going to be a little bit like that.
- 49:03Speaker 8: Dark Knight was a pretty cool movie.
- 49:04Speaker 1: We got some cool stuff that was like that movie.
- 49:06Speaker 12: It was, it's like they were borrowing from all over
- 49:08Speaker 12: the place.
- 49:09Speaker 1: The Dark Knight.
- 49:10Speaker 8: I mean, I think they were confused.
- 49:12Speaker 7: And it just felt reused.
- 49:13Speaker 10: They were confused on how they thought a James Bond
- 49:16Speaker 10: movie was all about the villain.
- 49:17Speaker 8: And it never was all about the villain. The villain
- 49:19Speaker 8: was always this funny.
- 49:20Speaker 10: Kind of joke even though you know like goldfinger he's
- 49:22Speaker 10: kind of this classy kind of evil dude but it
- 49:24Speaker 10: was he was still kind of just an idiot and
- 49:27Speaker 10: all the bond movies are kind of these stupid idiots
- 49:29Speaker 10: that you know it's not about them it's about bond
- 49:31Speaker 10: being cool and you know being classy and this one
- 49:34Speaker 10: is just all about javier bardem and And he's not
- 49:37Speaker 10: even very good.
- 49:37Speaker 12: Do you know how I got these scars on my face?
- 49:39Speaker 8: It's like, I'm watching the fucking Dark Knight again.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Like, what is this?
- 49:42Speaker 6: And they cut away, like, at least the Joker had, like,
- 49:45Speaker 6: really cool shit he did.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:47Speaker 6: Like, the pencil trick. And they cut away from all
- 49:51Speaker 6: his things that could have been big moments.
- 49:53Speaker 8: Yeah, all he did was just, like, hanging around, like,
- 49:54Speaker 8: saying monologues.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Not really, like, he shot a person.
- 49:58Speaker 25: I mean, for the first half, when he showed up,
- 50:02Speaker 25: I was like, he doesn't seem like that bad a guy.
- 50:05Speaker 25: I haven't seen him do any evil shit yet.
- 50:08Speaker 12: What if he hasn't shot somebody in the head with
- 50:10Speaker 12: a nail gun? The movie seems to think he's amazing. Yeah,
- 50:13Speaker 12: and he is.
- 50:15Speaker 6: He is, because we've seen him be amazing.
- 50:18Speaker 12: In other movies.
- 50:19Speaker 6: Who could that be at this.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Time of night?
- 50:21Speaker 12: Somebody's showing up late at the box office.
- 50:25Speaker 8: .
- 50:29Speaker 1: .
- 50:29Speaker 3: .
- 50:48Speaker 6: I don't know, it looks, parts of it look really good,
- 50:51Speaker 6: but didn't he fail at every single thing he was
- 50:54Speaker 6: tasked to do?
- 50:55Speaker 8: Yeah, why do they keep hiring him?
- 50:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I know. How does he get this big reputation?
- 51:02Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 51:03Speaker 10: Well, I mean, maybe for all the times he gets
- 51:05Speaker 10: everything right in the movies before, but he fucks up
- 51:07Speaker 10: so bad.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Yeah. We're just all like, somebody walked in who I
- 51:15Speaker 1: recognize from a movie.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Bert Reynolds!
- 51:21Speaker 1: Bert Reynolds is here. Chew your gum, Bert. We're talking
- 51:27Speaker 1: about a Bert Reynolds movie. As Oscars would normally. You're welcome.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Burt Reynolds in Bond. He should have played the bad guy.
- 51:34Speaker 6: It was weird that he didn't say, like, Burt Reynolds
- 51:38Speaker 6: is Hooper. Because that's what... It did.
- 51:40Speaker 12: It did. Did it?
- 51:41Speaker 15: It did.
- 51:41Speaker 1: I missed it.
- 51:42Speaker 12: Yeah. It's the way they introduce him. Even his body
- 51:45Speaker 12: pads say Hooper on them.
- 51:48Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 51:48Speaker 6: That looked kind of like that Borat show that used
- 51:53Speaker 6: to be on the opening where he gets suited up.
- 51:58Speaker 1: I don't remember the show.
- 52:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I can't think of his name in that movie.
- 52:03Speaker 6: Ali G Show. Yeah, he's getting suited up and you
- 52:07Speaker 6: don't see his face because by the time they get
- 52:10Speaker 6: up to his head he puts the helmet on. And
- 52:14Speaker 6: then later he's just riding a horse around at night.
- 52:17Speaker 1: What's great though about you don't know that it's Burt
- 52:21Speaker 1: Reynolds other than they told you. Yeah, that Burt Reynolds is. Right,
- 52:26Speaker 1: but And you don't even see his face because they
- 52:28Speaker 1: put it on.
- 52:29Speaker 6: And it was actually illegal in the 70s to not
- 52:32Speaker 6: know who Burt Reynolds was.
- 52:34Speaker 1: But when he walks out of his trailer and he's
- 52:36Speaker 1: got the full visor and helmet on, you can see
- 52:40Speaker 1: his jaw moving because he's chewing his gum. And you
- 52:44Speaker 1: can see the.
- 52:46Speaker 7: It's like, oh yeah, that's Burt Reynolds.
- 52:47Speaker 1: They can't even use a stuntman. That's Burt Reynolds.
- 52:50Speaker 12: Hey, Burt.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I don't know. Fred does Ernie. Again, that whole.
- 52:57Speaker 12: First half, that's all it is. Come into the porn
- 52:59Speaker 12: section near you.
- 53:00Speaker 1: No, I don't think I want that at all.
- 53:04Speaker 10: You know, in 2013, you just could not have... you
- 53:07Speaker 10: could not have a movie star named Burt a guy
- 53:10Speaker 10: who chews gum a lot and always has a mustache
- 53:13Speaker 10: like refuses to shave.
- 53:15Speaker 8: Like those three characteristics you could not have that.
- 53:17Speaker 1: In 2013 Adam West would wear a fake mustache but
- 53:20Speaker 1: your hipster neighbors would love him if.
- 53:22Speaker 10: So yeah they would only in an ironic way would
- 53:26Speaker 10: he become famous.
- 53:27Speaker 6: But I don't know if y'all aren't really keeping up
- 53:29Speaker 6: because I thought they were hipsters they were talking about
- 53:32Speaker 6: something that was cool that wasn't anymore I thought they
- 53:35Speaker 6: were hipsters.
- 53:36Speaker 1: It turns out they're douchebags.
- 53:38Speaker 12: Then they would really like Burt Reynolds. As it turns
- 53:42Speaker 12: out in this movie.
- 53:43Speaker 6: Kind of a dick. Well, you know, there's really a
- 53:45Speaker 6: fine line between hipsters and douchebags. Because they always want
- 53:50Speaker 6: you to know something that you already know. And I
- 53:53Speaker 6: don't want to be sexist, but there's nothing more that
- 53:57Speaker 6: males hate than being told something that you already know.
- 54:01Speaker 6: It's like somebody folding a roadmap the wrong way.
- 54:04Speaker 12: You can't stand it. Don't tell me that. I already
- 54:07Speaker 12: know that.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Well, and on top of that, to be smug about it. Yeah.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I think that's what is the tipping point.
- 54:15Speaker 6: But see, I kind of like doing that myself. I've
- 54:19Speaker 6: always wanted to be a waiter. I've never had a
- 54:21Speaker 6: job as a waiter, but I've always wanted to, just
- 54:24Speaker 6: so I could say, when somebody said, what's the soup
- 54:26Speaker 6: du jour? I could lean over and say, That just
- 54:29Speaker 6: means the soup of the day.
- 54:30Speaker 12: Fred is aspiring to be a dick, is what he's saying.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Or a douchebag.
- 54:35Speaker 6: Or get a medical degree so that I could come
- 54:38Speaker 6: out and say, well, the nurses and technicians did everything
- 54:40Speaker 6: they could.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I just wasn't feeling it.
- 54:47Speaker 6: Fred could use a dose of unpretentious still.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Unpretentious.
- 54:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 54:53Speaker 12: Please tell me some places you've traveled in the world.
- 54:56Speaker 12: In the whole, like, 70s, That's the thing, it just
- 54:59Speaker 12: gets caught up in that. In a way, I feel
- 55:02Speaker 12: like it should be doing more with the whole Stuntman life.
- 55:05Speaker 12: And what it made me realize is this is the
- 55:07Speaker 12: reason they made The Fall Guy, because this movie didn't
- 55:09Speaker 12: really hit enough of it. And by the end, you
- 55:12Speaker 12: realize that's all it was. It became the TV series.
- 55:15Speaker 12: It almost sets it up with, even to the point
- 55:18Speaker 12: of the theme song, it's so close.
- 55:19Speaker 6: It's Stuntman life for Bertie.
- 55:22Speaker 12: It's a stuntman.
- 55:24Speaker 6: They do get songs in the movie like that.
- 55:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the life of a stuntman.
- 55:29Speaker 12: It's pretty close to the Fall Guy theme song. So
- 55:31Speaker 12: they just rolled it over into a TV series.
- 55:34Speaker 6: And then the life of the wife of a stunt guy.
- 55:37Speaker 1: Right. Well, not really wife. She wants to be the wife.
- 55:41Speaker 6: Oh, that's right.
- 55:42Speaker 1: He couldn't commit. To a woman that cleaned for him.
- 55:46Speaker 6: Yeah, because he had that talking teddy bear.
- 55:51Speaker 1: No, wait. I'm sorry. That's different. Did you notice, and
- 55:56Speaker 1: this is, when you talk about physical acting in comedy,
- 56:00Speaker 1: I did notice with Sally Field, when they're in the
- 56:03Speaker 1: bar scene, and she's doing the little dance with moving
- 56:05Speaker 1: her feet while people are falling into her and over her.
- 56:09Speaker 1: I wasn't laughing about it, but I was smiling, thinking,
- 56:14Speaker 1: that really took some coordination to move your knife this
- 56:17Speaker 1: way and move your plate this way. That was fun.
- 56:20Speaker 1: Hasn't that been in like 40 movies?
- 56:22Speaker 12: Don't they always work that in? I've actually seen that
- 56:26Speaker 12: on stage too.
- 56:28Speaker 1: But to continue eating because how many takes would that
- 56:31Speaker 1: have taken? And to continue eating steak and potatoes while
- 56:35Speaker 1: she's doing all that. Eventually you're just going to be full.
- 56:39Speaker 1: You're like, no more takes.
- 56:40Speaker 12: I'm full.
- 56:41Speaker 6: I get full just seeing people in bell bottoms with.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Embroidered stars on them. embroidered stars that's.
- 56:50Speaker 12: Because i noticed he was wearing those to me those
- 56:56Speaker 12: you couldn't be a guy and pull those pants off
- 56:58Speaker 12: at this point you could pull them off no he
- 57:00Speaker 12: needed to but he didn't is the oh pull them
- 57:02Speaker 12: off they were well they were most of his pants
- 57:06Speaker 12: were way they were 70s tight it was scary yeah
- 57:09Speaker 12: it's not a good.
- 57:09Speaker 6: Idea 70s tight Yeah, they were all dressed kind of
- 57:12Speaker 6: like Bee Gees.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Nothing wrong with Bee Gees.
- 57:16Speaker 6: I'm not saying, I'm just saying. Greg's like, hey now. Well,
- 57:27Speaker 6: and they were all as hairy as Bee Gees, too.
- 57:31Speaker 6: Just all this hair bursting out of tight clothing.
- 57:35Speaker 1: It all gets compacted. It's like the Spanx. It all
- 57:39Speaker 1: gets compacted in the same spot and it just has
- 57:41Speaker 1: to come out.
- 57:42Speaker 12: When what's-his-name does his shirt, you hear it sproing.
- 57:47Speaker 6: The chest hair sproings out of his shirt. Oh my god.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 57:53Speaker 12: The whole first half is just strung together and then
- 57:56Speaker 12: by the end, all you get, once you hit the
- 58:00Speaker 12: big stunt, that's the whole last half of the movie
- 58:03Speaker 12: is built around the The, oh my god, is he
- 58:06Speaker 12: going to do it? And they're doing it and then
- 58:07Speaker 12: he calls it off and then they bring him back
- 58:10Speaker 12: in one more time.
- 58:11Speaker 1: One more time.
- 58:12Speaker 12: By the time you get to the scene where they're
- 58:14Speaker 12: standing in front of it talking about the bridge they're
- 58:16Speaker 12: going to blow, it's a working bridge.
- 58:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:19Speaker 12: There's cars going over it. Are you supposed to Blow
- 58:23Speaker 12: a working bridge.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Can you do that?
- 58:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 58:26Speaker 6: Could they do that over here at the Ohio River?
- 58:28Speaker 3: I guess.
- 58:29Speaker 12: Settle it once and for all?
- 58:30Speaker 1: They're so concerned about going over budget, but how are
- 58:33Speaker 1: they going to rebuild this bridge that's obviously needed later on? Yeah,
- 58:37Speaker 1: they're burning their bridges.
- 58:38Speaker 2: That's what they're doing.
- 58:39Speaker 1: They don't need that. They're burning their bridges. This is crucial.
- 58:43Speaker 6: Those silos have to fall over. Like, and just miss
- 58:46Speaker 6: your car. That was a good stunt, though. That was well-timed.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Watch this movie.
- 58:52Speaker 6: They should take all the outtakes of this movie and
- 58:55Speaker 6: make a movie.
- 58:55Speaker 1: And make a movie with Adam West.
- 58:57Speaker 12: Because that I would watch, and it might be a
- 58:59Speaker 12: little better than this one.
- 59:00Speaker 1: It might be.
- 59:02Speaker 6: Yeah. Burt's a nice guy, but, I mean, his movies
- 59:05Speaker 6: are low impact yeah well just kind of like it's.
- 59:09Speaker 32: Me Bert I'm in a movie come watch it it'll
- 59:11Speaker 32: be fun it's like hanging out in his living room
- 59:14Speaker 32: it really is well it's a movie you could put
- 59:16Speaker 32: on and have everybody slumping over in chairs and drinking
- 59:19Speaker 32: after you've had a.
- 59:20Speaker 12: Bar fight yeah that's really what you put it on
- 59:22Speaker 12: and you.
- 59:22Speaker 6: Watch it like oh yeah this is still on and
- 59:24Speaker 6: he's teaching you how to watch his movies in the
- 59:27Speaker 6: movie which is genius Almost like a Woody Allen quality. Yeah,
- 59:32Speaker 6: go out, get in a bar five, invite everybody back over,
- 59:36Speaker 6: watch my movie.
- 59:37Speaker 1: When I think of Woody Allen, I do think of
- 59:39Speaker 1: Burt Reynolds. So that works.
- 59:42Speaker 6: Deliverance. They show the clips from Deliverance. That's how you
- 59:47Speaker 6: know he's a real movie star. Now what's that guy's name? James,
- 59:52Speaker 6: the guy who wrote Deliverance. He was a friend of
- 59:54Speaker 6: my dad's. And I can't think of his name. And
- 59:59Speaker 6: he played the sheriff in it.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: So he'd come by when John Carpenter was babysitting.
- 1:00:06Speaker 6: He never came by our house, but he was in
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: the war. He told a lot of stories, and he
- 1:00:12Speaker 6: had some disability that allowed him to serve. The Great War?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: No, not the Great War. The Pretty Good War. At
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: some point, I'm just going to call it bullshit with Fred.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: I was like, no, you're not making any more of
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: this up.
- 1:00:27Speaker 12: No, I'm not making this up.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: And also, I don't know this because my dad knew him,
- 1:00:33Speaker 6: but his son tried and tried to talk him out
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: of doing the anal rape scene in the movie. He
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: said in the book, people wanted to do this. No,
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: he said don't do it because it's all anyone will
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: ever talk about, about that movie ever again.
- 1:00:50Speaker 12: He was right.
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: And he was right.
- 1:00:52Speaker 6: And he was right. He said in the book, it's
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: a disturbing thing that happens, but the book keeps going.
- 1:00:57Speaker 6: But if you put that in a movie, it's going
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: to be the thing that people identify the movie with.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: And he was absolutely right. James Dickey was his name, yeah.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: You know, I.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: Worked with a guy who was a little clueless. And
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: he was an avid canoeist. I don't know what else
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: you call that. Anyway, and he would go out every
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: weekend and go canoeing. And we brought up, oh, yeah,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: that's like deliverance. And then everybody, this was a maintenance department,
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: so everybody would sit around and joke around, ha-ha, and
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: play little games with Ned Beatty. And it's like he totally.
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Had blocked that entire scene out really all he was
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: concerned about was the canoeing and oh this shot does.
- 1:01:47Speaker 33: This oh wait and there was a rape in there
- 1:01:49Speaker 33: and he watches it like every you know and he
- 1:01:51Speaker 33: was a hunter too so he you know the hunting
- 1:01:53Speaker 33: and the chasing the guy you know uh the bow
- 1:01:56Speaker 33: hunting and everything and the canoeing it was the greatest
- 1:01:58Speaker 33: movie ever and like.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Well what about the whole ned baity scene which.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: One you're talking about just like.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Shell shock, shut it out of his brain so that
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: he could enjoy the rest of the movie.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: That's one approach.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: You'd literally say that to him and he'd be like, what?
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Because he was more concerned about the canoe.
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: Yeah, I think as a spoiler alert, we ought to
- 1:02:23Speaker 6: get Robert Klein doing his spooky noise that he did
- 1:02:27Speaker 6: in his stand-up act. He liked doing that way too much.
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: It really wasn't that funny, but he was like, look,
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: I can do that noise.
- 1:02:37Speaker 12: He did, well, no, he kind of did it once
- 1:02:39Speaker 12: in his movies.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: Did he?
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Seems like a one for it.
- 1:02:42Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: I think I would have noticed.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: It's just part of his regular speech pattern.
- 1:02:48Speaker 12: I think it is at this point.
- 1:02:52Speaker 17: Woo!
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: He was okay as like an asshole director.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: He really likes playing that mode.
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: That's just what he falls into.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: It took me a little while to recognize it was him, though,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: because he was younger.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Yeah. But, yeah.
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: Burt Reynolds I didn't have that problem with. He looked
- 1:03:09Speaker 6: older than he was.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: He's looked 40 his entire life. Isn't that weird?
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: There are some actors who are just like they're an age.
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: Like that old guy in Home Alone. He was like
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: that old bearded guy.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: His whole career.
- 1:03:28Speaker 12: No, the old scary neighbor.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: The scary neighbor who.
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: Goes to church and he's like estranged from his son.
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: But he's been in movies forever, and he has a
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: Kentucky connection. He has relatives in Louisville. Or I think
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: he died, though. I'm speaking of him in the present tense.
- 1:03:46Speaker 6: But he was that guy in movies forever, and he
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: was like the same age.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: I don't know how people do that.
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: They pick an age and they stick with it.
- 1:03:57Speaker 12: Tommy Lee Jones?
- 1:03:59Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:03:59Speaker 8: He was always born an old man.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of was. Steve Martin's always been the same age.
- 1:04:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: He's starting to push it, though. Yeah, he is now.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: It took him a long time.
- 1:04:10Speaker 10: It took having to play the banjo constantly to finally
- 1:04:13Speaker 10: the wrinkles and the old manness sets in.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: It's like, okay. Now he's playing banjo.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: I think it was officially when he was on SNL
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: with his banjo band. Then suddenly, this is an old dude.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: Yeah, he's so chill and relaxed. That's not Steve Martin.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: It was Steve Martin. Right, he doesn't want to talk
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: about comedy anymore. He wants to talk about the banjo. Yeah,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: that's when you progress.
- 1:04:37Speaker 12: His next stage is.
- 1:04:38Speaker 6: He's all serious about the banjo. He used to talk
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: about the banjo.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: It's also art now, too. Now he's serious about it. Well,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: the next stage is whittling. Once you seriously talk about whittling,
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: that's when you've got one foot in the grave.
- 1:04:53Speaker 12: Selling out stadiums.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: For whittling. Sits on a stool. It's a pickle. A
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: bloody pickle. He's whittling a bloody pickle? Yeah.
- 1:05:08Speaker 12: Audience member yells out, excuse me. He's like, who said that?
- 1:05:12Speaker 7: That's not what this is for.
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: Well, the ladies call it the bloody pickle. It's up
- 1:05:17Speaker 6: to Steve as to what he calls it.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: Okay. I'm sorry, Brian.
- 1:05:22Speaker 12: Except for Thurman Merman, what he calls him. He's the authority.
- 1:05:25Speaker 8: What the hell's the matter?
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: What's going on?
- 1:05:28Speaker 17: I haven't got enough pressure.
- 1:05:30Speaker 9: Screw the pressure!
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: What is happening? What the hell's going on down there?
- 1:05:36Speaker 9: Keep rolling, goddammit! My life's worth more than a piece
- 1:05:39Speaker 9: of film. I'll tell you exactly what your life is worth.
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: Your life is worth $ 50, 000.
- 1:05:44Speaker 20: That's the price you put.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: On it when you got behind this wheel.
- 1:05:47Speaker 12: Sonny Ski, if you do not try to make this.
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: Jump, You'll never work in this town again.
- 1:05:53Speaker 15: We're going, huh?
- 1:05:56Speaker 18: We're going, yeah.
- 1:05:57Speaker 34: We're going.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: You're crazy.
- 1:06:03Speaker 12: I'm going to hit it. All right.
- 1:06:06Speaker 6: How do you know when you've covered Hooper? That's my question.
- 1:06:10Speaker 12: I'm asking you now. We're getting to the end of
- 1:06:13Speaker 12: the movie. They're going to jump across the bridge.
- 1:06:15Speaker 6: What's going to happen?
- 1:06:16Speaker 12: Can you jump across the bridge in a rocket car
- 1:06:18Speaker 12: from a dead stop?
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 1:06:20Speaker 12: It's like, wait a minute.
- 1:06:23Speaker 6: Wait, should we do this? yeah, we should lose all
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: our fucking momentum and then decide whether we should jump
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: over a grid.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: That was my main issue.
- 1:06:32Speaker 12: Like, if they kept going, you might have been able
- 1:06:34Speaker 12: to pull it off and die.
- 1:06:36Speaker 6: At the other end, but.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: Dramatic pause. Yeah, but they still cleared it.
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: Massively.
- 1:06:42Speaker 6: Yeah. The only next step would be to have a
- 1:06:45Speaker 6: dramatic pause in midair where they discuss, should we land?
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: You know what else they could do? They could break
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: the fourth wall again.
- 1:06:54Speaker 12: Well, that's what I was going to go with. That's
- 1:06:56Speaker 12: how you know this is one of that era of
- 1:06:59Speaker 12: Burt Reynolds movies. When he really, when they took that,
- 1:07:02Speaker 12: I mean, it was already like you were hanging out
- 1:07:04Speaker 12: with him and his friends, but you're part of the
- 1:07:05Speaker 12: gang because he looks at you.
- 1:07:08Speaker 3: He gives you the okay.
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: He looks at the camera.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: He really snaps his gum.
- 1:07:12Speaker 12: You really are sucked in as one of Bert's friends
- 1:07:16Speaker 12: in this silly.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Movie. Speaking of, I kind of felt like that was
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: almost the same way when they're like, okay, we're going
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: to stop the movie and we're going to do impressions now.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: At that one part, and I'm going to one-up you
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: on impressions for a few minutes.
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: They were terrible.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: And they were both terrible. Like, I don't do impressions,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: but I could do a better Jimmy Stewart right now.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: That was Jimmy Stewart.
- 1:07:40Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 1:07:40Speaker 12: I didn't know.
- 1:07:41Speaker 6: I thought they were pretending to be like a guy
- 1:07:44Speaker 6: with intellectual disabilities.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: I don't know what it was.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: It was Jimmy Stewart. And I just thought, that's wrong.
- 1:07:50Speaker 12: You couldn't do that today.
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: You couldn't make fun of somebody with a speech impediment.
- 1:07:55Speaker 10: He's like, that's a weirdly mean thing they did in
- 1:07:57Speaker 10: the middle of the movie.
- 1:07:58Speaker 12: Oh, it's a Jimmy Stewart impersonation.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: I guess it's okay. My normal speaking voice is a
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: better Jimmy Stewart than what.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I think that was the end for me.
- 1:08:11Speaker 12: As if he wasn't bad enough when he looked earlier
- 1:08:14Speaker 12: at the camera for no good reason. When he was
- 1:08:17Speaker 12: flashing us. But yeah, at that point, I was like, okay,
- 1:08:22Speaker 12: this is barely even a movie anymore.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Every decade has their own cancer movies or bubble boy things.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: What was it about that late 70s, early 80s and quadriplegics?
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: It just seemed like that was the curse that you owe.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: You better watch out because you might break your neck
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: and become a quadriplegic. That might have just been because
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: my mom was obsessed about it. If you fell off
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: your bike, you could never walk again. Mom said that
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: a lot in.
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: The 70s because we were doing crazy shit.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: We were jumping ramps on our bike. And it might
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: be that because you had TV shows that was a stuntman.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: You had Evil Knievel all the time. When I was
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: a kid, Evil Knievel was a god. People did this stuff.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I did. And I was allergic to it.
- 1:09:13Speaker 12: I hated it.
- 1:09:14Speaker 6: But I still did it because everybody did. And we
- 1:09:16Speaker 6: had this place. We went out to the rope swings.
- 1:09:19Speaker 6: where you'd go out, like in the summer, and you'd
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: swing out over this creek. And we went out, stoned,
- 1:09:26Speaker 6: in the winter to do this. Let's go out to
- 1:09:29Speaker 6: the rope swing. And I was the first one to
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: swing out, and I swung out.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: This is what we did. Best friend stories begin with,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: I was stoned.
- 1:09:39Speaker 12: So we were all stoned. We go out.
- 1:09:41Speaker 6: I swing out over this frozen, dried-up creek. It's basically
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: a rock ice bed.
- 1:09:47Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:09:47Speaker 6: I swing out, I get to the center and turn around,
- 1:09:50Speaker 6: and I'm facing the tree that this hangs off, which
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: the tree is just like on a cliff, and it's
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: a sheer drop-off. So I'm either going to hit the tree,
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: or I can let go.
- 1:10:00Speaker 12: Did you pause in midair and try to decide?
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: I stopped in midair.
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: I stopped.
- 1:10:07Speaker 8: What should we do?
- 1:10:10Speaker 6: And I thought about the future.
- 1:10:13Speaker 12: My life is worth more than this rope swing. Yeah,
- 1:10:16Speaker 12: I don't even remember what happened next.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: It's just you get to that point and it's like, oh, yeah. Well,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I was there. I thought we were all growing up.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Everything's going to change.
- 1:10:27Speaker 12: Things are going to change soon.
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: I'm going to go to college maybe, although I'm a
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: high school dropout.
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: I don't know. Something's going to happen.
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: I'm either going to hit the tree or fall to
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: the rocks or something. Or we're going to pause.
- 1:10:43Speaker 10: I like to think since you were stoned, there was
- 1:10:44Speaker 10: a chance you might have been saying all this out
- 1:10:46Speaker 10: loud as you were hanging there.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: I'm going to go to college.
- 1:10:49Speaker 8: What are you doing? What are you talking about?
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: You were swinging.
- 1:10:51Speaker 8: You were muttering about college.
- 1:10:54Speaker 6: Or I'm going to grow up and be that guy
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: on The Wonder Years.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Or on How I Met Your Mother. Something's going to happen.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Or Freaks and Geeks. I love Freaks and Geeks. You know,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I go back and watch episodes of Freaks and Geeks
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: and just smile.
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: I want to go back and watch all of it
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: over again tonight.
- 1:11:14Speaker 8: It's only like two seasons or something.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: It's one season.
- 1:11:18Speaker 7: One season.
- 1:11:19Speaker 12: Yeah, you can do it in a night.
- 1:11:20Speaker 9: And it was on.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: eight different channels in that one season. Because I remember like,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: what the fuck? ABC Family?
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: I never saw it when it was on.
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: I just watched it all at once on DVD. It
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: was like Tuesday night, then Saturday night, then Friday night,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: and jumped around every channel. And you had to follow
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: Boy Meets World, and it was on after that. That's
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: the curse of any show.
- 1:11:42Speaker 6: One of the best moments of TV I've ever seen
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: is when Martin Starr is watching gary shandling and laughing
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: laughing while he's eating yeah and his mom is dating
- 1:11:54Speaker 6: his gym teacher oh god it's so good every every
- 1:11:59Speaker 6: time they just focus on his face that guy is
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: a genius he can eat a peanut butter sandwich and
- 1:12:04Speaker 6: i'm i'm dying.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I know especially because of his peanut allergy he's dying
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: not peanut butter sandwich yeah but when he dressed up
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: as um.
- 1:12:14Speaker 27: For Alan Monroe no he dressed up as the bionic
- 1:12:19Speaker 27: woman and it looked more like Maude than the bionic
- 1:12:23Speaker 27: woman yeah but.
- 1:12:25Speaker 6: Actually the bionic woman does.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Look more like Maude that's not true at all.
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: Oh he was so great and then he was great
- 1:12:34Speaker 6: on Party Down too see I haven't seen it anywhere
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: he turns up magic is happening Because he is the
- 1:12:41Speaker 6: master of the awkward and the painful.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: He was the geek on that show. The others were geeks,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: but he was the geek. He was king geek of
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: the world.
- 1:12:52Speaker 6: Although they had that old wise geek, the older kid.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: They would go to.
- 1:12:57Speaker 6: James Franco went to him and he's like, am I
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: a loser? He said, well, you're not a loser because
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: you have sex. But you are kind of getting there.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Well, when he joins the AV club with them and
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: then goes and plays Dungeons & Dragons, it's the greatest moment.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: And what was his name? Like Jorge the Dwarf or something? No,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: it wasn't Jorge.
- 1:13:21Speaker 12: It was the Dwarf.
- 1:13:23Speaker 6: It was like a Mexican lawnkeeper named the Dwarf.
- 1:13:29Speaker 9: Right.
- 1:13:30Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: I can't remember what it was.
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: And they ask him, they question you, You want to be.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:13:38Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Can I get anybody anything? Yeah. I love that show.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: It's a great show.
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: I feel defensive of Judd Apatow whenever he is criticized
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: just because of that. He may be like really TV-sized
- 1:13:56Speaker 6: in the long run. Like his films may have a
- 1:14:00Speaker 6: little bit of a TV size about them.
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: But he made some good TV. The whole plot, the
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: one episode with Seth Rogen and his girlfriend... Who used
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: to have a penis.
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:14:13Speaker 9: That was.
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: That was beautiful.
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: For being.
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a really good one-off episode.
- 1:14:17Speaker 9: It.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: You know, it's... And he's like, but you're all good now.
- 1:14:22Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:14:23Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:14:24Speaker 9: Yeah. And it.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: That was really sweet.
- 1:14:30Speaker 12: It was good.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: And then how they resolve it at the end, it was...
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: It was good. I.
- 1:14:35Speaker 6: Seth Rogen was so funny on that show. Just everything
- 1:14:39Speaker 6: he did.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Because he was high the entire time.
- 1:14:43Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: He really was.
- 1:14:44Speaker 6: And he was playing high the entire time.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: And from the beginning of the season to the end
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: of the season, his hair grew by about a foot
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: and his waist grew about two feet.
- 1:14:54Speaker 28: Yeah.
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: When he smashed the guitar, what's-his-name was going to sing
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: his song for.
- 1:15:00Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:15:02Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:15:03Speaker 6: It's the biggest favor I ever did for you. And
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: she would say things like, well, what are you going
- 1:15:10Speaker 6: to do?
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: And he'd go, I don't know.
- 1:15:12Speaker 6: What are you.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: Going to do? Yeah, anyway. From Hooper to.
- 1:15:20Speaker 7: Freaks and Geeks.
- 1:15:21Speaker 12: Yeah, I think we've rounded out Hooper with this.
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: That's how you end Hooper. With Judd Apatow TV show
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: that nobody watched when it was on.
- 1:15:31Speaker 12: Yep, I think that is it for Hoopers, though. Alright,
- 1:15:34Speaker 12: we will take a break and come back with more
- 1:15:36Speaker 12: of the Oscar shenanigans.
- 1:15:39Speaker 15: Oscars.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: The most meltdown-y of, uh... What can you do?
- 1:15:44Speaker 12: It's a Burt Reynolds movie.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Right. They didn't have anything to say about it. They
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: were just hanging out, drinking beer.
- 1:15:52Speaker 19: Cold feet don't fail me now So my Would.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: You be there?
- 1:16:05Speaker 19: Just a taste of things to come I still smile.
- 1:16:35Speaker 19: But I don't want to die alone. I don't want
- 1:16:41Speaker 19: to die alone.
- 1:16:45Speaker 30: Way before.
- 1:16:50Speaker 12: My time.
- 1:17:09Speaker 29: It was a childhood corrupted by endless hours of VHS rentals.
- 1:17:16Speaker 29: In his most formative years, he had seen it all.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: Actions.
- 1:17:25Speaker 23: Karate is not to be used aggressively but if i
- 1:17:29Speaker 23: have no other.
- 1:17:29Speaker 29: Choice horror and romance now he's decided it's time to
- 1:17:43Speaker 29: go back for just one more adventure humans are such
- 1:17:50Speaker 29: easy Noel Mellor presents.
- 1:17:53Speaker 9: You're the problem, you little shit!
- 1:17:55Speaker 29: The Adventures in VHS Podcast.
- 1:17:58Speaker 35: Join me, Noel Mellor, as each month I take an
- 1:18:00Speaker 35: in-depth look at one movie from my collection of ex-rental
- 1:18:03Speaker 35: 80s VHS classics and speak to one or two of
- 1:18:06Speaker 35: the people involved with making them about what the format
- 1:18:08Speaker 35: means to them.
- 1:18:09Speaker 29: The Adventures in VHS Podcast.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: Thank you. Have a nice day.

- 1:18:20Speaker 23: I just want you to know this is the 27th
- 1:18:22Speaker 23: Annual Academy Awards, the dramatic climax of a dynamic industry
- 1:18:27Speaker 23: whose motto is sick tempest ad hoc scurus.
- 1:18:31Speaker 18: Translated from the Latin.
- 1:18:33Speaker 23: Means there's money in popcorn.
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: Perhaps you.
- 1:18:39Speaker 23: Perhaps you people watching don't realize the air of tension
- 1:18:43Speaker 23: in this theater tonight. But five rivals for each award
- 1:18:46Speaker 23: are seated out there side by side. We're sitting on
- 1:18:50Speaker 23: an Ehrman time bomb. The winners will, of course, take
- 1:18:57Speaker 23: home an Oscar. The losers will all be presented with
- 1:19:00Speaker 23: monogrammed do-it-yourself suicide kits.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: Here's what you.
- 1:19:12Speaker 17: Missed last time.
- 1:19:14Speaker 13: I actually got one right. I got braved down for
- 1:19:17Speaker 13: best animated. But the guy accepting it is wearing a
- 1:19:25Speaker 13: damn kilt.
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: That is just wrong.
- 1:19:28Speaker 22: He's wearing a kilt. He's wearing a kilt. and somebody
- 1:19:40Speaker 22: for some reason is weeping I don't.
- 1:19:42Speaker 36: Understand why I don't know what she's wearing it's something
- 1:19:47Speaker 36: that goes with a kilt the delightfully randy tastiest candy
- 1:19:52Speaker 36: I like her with randy yeah I.
- 1:19:54Speaker 22: Don't watch foreign films unless they're like you know martial
- 1:19:59Speaker 22: arts kung fu.
- 1:20:00Speaker 12: Stuff because barely wins best uh.
- 1:20:03Speaker 37: No oh they're not even nominated Danish movies maybe.
- 1:20:07Speaker 12: Good I like anything from, like, Scandinavia.
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: I watched a foreign movie once called Troll Hunter. It
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: was pretty good.
- 1:20:17Speaker 13: That was a lot of fun.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: That was a lot of fun.
- 1:20:24Speaker 37: See, now they're talking about The Avengers, which should be
- 1:20:28Speaker 37: the best movie of the year because it's big, it's loud,
- 1:20:33Speaker 37: it's a lot of fun, a lot of shit.
- 1:20:35Speaker 12: Happens on that movie.
- 1:20:37Speaker 7: And you're not going to fall asleep.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: You're going to laugh. You're going to see things blow up.
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: And it's really good.
- 1:20:43Speaker 12: Was it nominated for anything?
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: No.
- 1:20:46Speaker 9: No.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: The man speaks the truth.
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: That's right.
- 1:20:48Speaker 37: You know, because, you know, they're all stuck up on
- 1:20:52Speaker 37: their sobby movies like Lincoln, which is a bore fest.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: So let me tell you something. They should go for Lincoln. No, no,
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Go for The Avengers next time.
- 1:21:03Speaker 7: Throw them at the people.
- 1:21:05Speaker 6: I like that.
- 1:21:06Speaker 8: I think that'd be more fun watching this.
- 1:21:09Speaker 27: Hey, hey, Cody, catch.
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: That'd be fun, you know?
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: That'd be fun. Hey, Hathaway, heads up.
- 1:21:16Speaker 9: Argo.
- 1:21:16Speaker 12: I nailed it.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I nailed it. I picked Argo.
- 1:21:21Speaker 8: Hey, check the notebooks and we win.
- 1:21:22Speaker 9: All right.
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: I nailed Argo. A lot of us nailed Argo. Okay,
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:21:28Speaker 12: Argo sits a slut.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: Who's Argo?
- 1:21:31Speaker 18: Argo sits a slut.
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: Argo sits a slut.
- 1:21:35Speaker 27: Every guy here nailed Argo.
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: Argo just bends over. I'm sorry.
- 1:21:45Speaker 21: I've had a lot of these damn things. I apologize
- 1:21:49Speaker 21: for that. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: That was Brian, right?
- 1:21:59Speaker 12: Yeah, that was the first time I've ever met Brian.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: I'm not usually this rude. Yes, I am.
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: But this was at the point.
- 1:22:05Speaker 12: See, Bill, I always have to come with him at
- 1:22:07Speaker 12: that point.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: I don't want you to walk away.
- 1:22:12Speaker 21: I don't want you to walk away here with a
- 1:22:14Speaker 21: negative opinion on.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Me because I've got a positive opinion of you. I
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: don't think you're getting any better, really.
- 1:22:19Speaker 13: You're like bacon and spam and all the stuff I love,
- 1:22:23Speaker 13: so you're right there, buddy.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: You're right there.
- 1:22:28Speaker 6: Gator.
- 1:22:29Speaker 15: It's got everything going for it. It's got Burt Reynolds
- 1:22:32Speaker 15: and Jerry Reed going for each other's throats. It's got
- 1:22:35Speaker 15: Burt Reynolds and Lauren Hutton going for each other's bodies.
- 1:22:39Speaker 15: And it's got Burt Reynolds and Jack Weston who are
- 1:22:41Speaker 15: going to drive each other crazy.
- 1:22:44Speaker 12: You drive.
- 1:22:45Speaker 15: Why am I driving?
- 1:22:46Speaker 24: I don't drive.
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: You don't drive.
- 1:22:47Speaker 15: It's got action in the air, on the land, and
- 1:22:51Speaker 15: in the swamp. It's got adventure, comedy, suspense, and romance.
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: You charmed the shirt right off my back.
- 1:23:01Speaker 15: Car crashes, boat chases, fist fights, and fire accidents.
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: We're coming to get you, Gator.
- 1:23:11Speaker 15: And it's got Burt Reynolds, who's got to direct it all,
- 1:23:14Speaker 15: and star in Gator. Rated PG. Parental guidance suggested.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: This is Roger Corman, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: Movie Meltdown.
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: It's part of your problem, you know. You haven't seen
- 1:23:43Speaker 9: enough movies. All of life's.
- 1:23:46Speaker 24: Riddles are answered in the movies. And now, on.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: With the show.
- 1:24:01Speaker 8: My words are lazy.
- 1:24:04Speaker 11: My thoughts are hazy, but this is one thing I'm
- 1:24:08Speaker 11: sure of.
- 1:24:09Speaker 3: Everybody needs a best friend.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: I'm happy I'm yours. You've got a double who brings
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: you trouble.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: And though you're.
- 1:24:20Speaker 19: Better without me, everybody needs a best friend.
- 1:24:27Speaker 15: I'm happy I'm yours.
- 1:24:29Speaker 7: It was easy for me because what I'm doing is
- 1:24:32Speaker 7: I'm rapping.
- 1:24:34Speaker 10: Pear slices with prosciutto, and you just use maple syrup
- 1:24:37Speaker 10: with cracked pepper to hold.
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: You're going to bake it in a sec.
- 1:24:42Speaker 8: Oh, this is fancy.
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: Mine is spam. You have to open the can.
- 1:24:48Speaker 7: And slice it.
- 1:24:50Speaker 6: Maybe. Not necessarily.
- 1:24:51Speaker 7: There's no judging here.
- 1:24:53Speaker 35: Can you imagine someone just eating a block of spam
- 1:24:55Speaker 35: and a block of cheddar or Velveeta?
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: Not even cheddar.
- 1:24:59Speaker 8: Cheddar is too good.
- 1:24:59Speaker 9: Spam, Velveeta.
- 1:25:02Speaker 12: Sounds pretty good.
- 1:25:03Speaker 10: Actually, I really like those Slim Jim sticks that are
- 1:25:06Speaker 10: like Slim Jim and cheddar.
- 1:25:07Speaker 8: Slim Jim.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: That's my jam.
- 1:25:11Speaker 12: My daughter gets these crackers called Bella Vita.
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Beautiful Life.
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: Whenever she says it, I think she's talking about Velveeta.
- 1:25:22Speaker 12: The Beautiful Life. It is Velveeta.
- 1:25:25Speaker 8: I don't know, it's always funny to me that people
- 1:25:27Speaker 8: talk about.
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: Yeah, Roberto Benigni won the Oscar for Velveeta.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 1:25:31Speaker 10: Isn't it awesome how no one knows who that guy
- 1:25:35Speaker 10: is anymore, and you made that huge fucking scene where
- 1:25:37Speaker 10: he's jumping up and down, and he's like, oh, I'm
- 1:25:39Speaker 10: so awesome.
- 1:25:39Speaker 21: I'm making Pinocchio, everybody will love it!
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: I was like, what the fuck is Pinocchio?
- 1:25:46Speaker 8: Oh, that's great.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: That's hilarious. We've just started the night.
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: Well, I'd better start drinking then.
- 1:25:55Speaker 12: You better start drinking because we're getting into the Meltdown Awards.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: The Foilers, if you will. And we're back into it
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: with your favorite category, Fred.
- 1:26:06Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:26:07Speaker 12: Forget their impressive acting skills, the hottest actor or actress
- 1:26:11Speaker 12: in a 2012 film.
- 1:26:13Speaker 6: I felt bullied by this question.
- 1:26:16Speaker 12: And it was actually kind of close, and it was
- 1:26:18Speaker 12: funny because the other one went to the big winner tonight.
- 1:26:21Speaker 12: The winner was actually Emma Watson from Perks of Being
- 1:26:24Speaker 12: a Wallflower, but the next one vote away was Jennifer Lawrence.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: So had you not been the pedophile... Yeah.
- 1:26:32Speaker 12: You could have tipped the scale, but no, you went
- 1:26:34Speaker 12: for the pedophile.
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: She's actually not 12, she's 21.
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: I'm dyslexic. I don't know, Jennifer Lawrence doesn't appeal to
- 1:26:44Speaker 6: me that way. She's perfectly attractive, but she doesn't exude sexuality.
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: She's like Sally Feeney.
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: If you hadn't dismissed her as a dog, I would
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: have gone with Anne Hathaway.
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: I didn't put that in there. Really?
- 1:27:02Speaker 12: I didn't write any of that stuff.
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: Really?
- 1:27:06Speaker 12: Someone who voted specifically pointed.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Out the fact that.
- 1:27:10Speaker 6: The other reason I didn't go with her in Dark
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: Knight Rises is because she was terrible in it. And
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: that's not sexy.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Bad acting is not sexy.
- 1:27:20Speaker 12: They said, what's her name, the Cotillera chick, was way
- 1:27:24Speaker 12: hotter and made Hathaway look like a dog.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: That was not my saying.
- 1:27:27Speaker 12: That was a listener wrote in. I don't think that works.
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: I mean, I like Anna Hathaway, but her mouth is
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: so big. Her smile is bigger than her face. That's
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: kind of cool, though. It's definitely cute, but when she
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: tries to play a bad character, you just don't believe her.
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: Because she's so wholesome-seeming.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't think it was odd casting. She didn't
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: carry it off.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: She was like Daryl Hannah as Morticia. She just couldn't
- 1:27:59Speaker 6: put it over, you know?
- 1:28:00Speaker 12: I don't know if it's that bad.
- 1:28:02Speaker 6: Well, it wasn't that bad. No, it wasn't.
- 1:28:04Speaker 12: But it didn't really work.
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: I didn't buy it. But I think she's, like, gorgeous.
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: And I like the way she makes you work for,
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: you know, the nudity. If you're going to see her boobs,
- 1:28:16Speaker 6: you're going to watch a depressing fucking movie. That's true.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: That's the only time she comes around.
- 1:28:20Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: That's a good policy.
- 1:28:23Speaker 8: We've yet to see Jennifer Lawrence's boobs.
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: I feel like I've already seen them. It's kind of like,
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: that's why, you know, nobody talked about Ted as a
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: movie this year, but I thought Ted was a good movie.
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: It had a really good central message. and it has,
- 1:28:41Speaker 6: what's her name, as like the lead in a kind
- 1:28:44Speaker 6: of romantic comedy. What is her name?
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Mila Kunis.
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: Mila Kunis. And she is so good at that, because...
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: She's like really gorgeous, but you feel comfortable with her
- 1:28:55Speaker 6: like maybe you got drunk and slept together one night already. So,
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: you know, she's not like unattainable. She doesn't feel like off-putting.
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: She's kind of like how Meg Ryan used to be
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: a good romantic comedy lead because she was just goofy
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: enough that women didn't resent her.
- 1:29:15Speaker 12: The breaking news is Fred slept with me.
- 1:29:17Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:29:18Speaker 12: Or at least he feels like it. I don't know.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: It's like everybody had at least one night where you
- 1:29:25Speaker 6: got drunk and nobody the next day knows what actually happened.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: I've had one of those.
- 1:29:30Speaker 12: Yeah, sure.
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: And then you go, well, who knows what might have happened.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I don't know. Marlena's got a tattoo that says sweet.
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: Fred's got one that says dude on their backs.
- 1:29:45Speaker 24: I woke up in a hospital.
- 1:29:48Speaker 9: Oh.
- 1:29:49Speaker 12: That was fun.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: A policeman knew my name.
- 1:29:53Speaker 6: He said, you can go sleep at home.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Tonight if you can get up and walk away.
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: I hate the who.
- 1:30:01Speaker 12: I really do.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: I hate them.
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: But I love the episode of Louis C.K. where he's
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: singing that song in the car with his kids and
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: they're looking at him like he's insane.
- 1:30:11Speaker 7: I know.
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: So that redeemed them a little bit anyway hottest actress
- 1:30:20Speaker 6: Emma you pushed it over the top for me well
- 1:30:23Speaker 6: I mean for people that age I can see how
- 1:30:25Speaker 6: yeah I mean you could really care about her and
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: be invested I can't argue she seems a little like
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: starved and a little bit masculine but we watched her
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: grow up and she was so adorable you know And
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: the truth be told, this sounds perverted, but it's not.
- 1:30:45Speaker 6: But the women you watched grow up are not like
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: any other women you ever know in your life. And
- 1:30:54Speaker 6: they just aren't. They're magic. Because you knew them and
- 1:30:58Speaker 6: you loved them, but you also hated them because they
- 1:31:00Speaker 6: were bitches. And so you formed like a real relationship.
- 1:31:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: That will endure and become like something bigger than an
- 1:31:10Speaker 6: imaginary bullshit relationship.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Wait, those are all I have.
- 1:31:14Speaker 28: Shut up.
- 1:31:15Speaker 12: Yeah. Alright, so now animals. The worst talking animal movie
- 1:31:22Speaker 12: of 2012. Which I thought, everybody's always got something fired
- 1:31:28Speaker 12: up like that.
- 1:31:28Speaker 10: Life of Pi, that one scene where the tiger's just like,
- 1:31:31Speaker 10: someone get me off this boat.
- 1:31:33Speaker 12: You were drunk during that too, weren't you?
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: They're great.
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: Can I nominate Last Temptation of Christ?
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: I don't think that's a 2012 movie. I'm pretty sure
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: it was. It's a movie for all time.
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:31:48Speaker 12: If it can hold a candle to Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3,
- 1:31:51Speaker 12: Viva La Fiesta.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Well, there's a three. Which is our winner.
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: Wow.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: Just edging out Treasure Buddies.
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: Any of the Buddies.
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: You know, I've had to watch, or at least have on,
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: in the room, the Buddies films.
- 1:32:07Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: I just about canceled the Netflix account.
- 1:32:13Speaker 6: I wonder if they have statistics on how many people canceled.
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: What is your buddy's fill capacity where you can no longer.
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like when you cancel your Netflix account, there's
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: just the question, what was the breaking point?
- 1:32:28Speaker 12: Hair buddies.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Santa buddies. When did you receive.
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: Alright, next up we have the 2012 movie you expected
- 1:32:36Speaker 6: to hate but ended up enjoying.
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: All of them.
- 1:32:41Speaker 12: Again, I guess I was surprised by Chronicle. That was
- 1:32:44Speaker 12: what got the votes. It looked like it.
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: Was going to be.
- 1:32:48Speaker 12: And again, I'm sick of found footage, but if you
- 1:32:51Speaker 12: get past that, it's a good story.
- 1:32:53Speaker 28: That they're doing.
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: Haven't seen it.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: It's worth watching if you can.
- 1:32:58Speaker 12: Tolerate found footage.
- 1:33:01Speaker 9: 15.
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: The best action sequence in a 2012 film.
- 1:33:04Speaker 12: Again, continuing the sweep, the final gunfight in Django Unchained.
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Okay, when you say final gunfight, that was confusing to
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: me because there's like... I would say the in-the-house thing. Well,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: there's two in-the-house things.
- 1:33:16Speaker 10: Well.
- 1:33:17Speaker 12: the main the bloodbath let's put it that's what I
- 1:33:20Speaker 12: was thinking yeah really the very last one isn't really
- 1:33:23Speaker 12: a gun fight it's just him picking.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: Off yeah there's no finishing the deal there's no call with.
- 1:33:30Speaker 12: Bullets is what it is yeah we're gonna it's gun
- 1:33:33Speaker 12: fight is that one that goes on for 15 minutes
- 1:33:36Speaker 12: and it's just a bloodbath yeah actually that whole scene.
- 1:33:38Speaker 10: Is only like two minutes it does though but it's
- 1:33:42Speaker 10: so awesome yeah and I'm.
- 1:33:43Speaker 12: Not complaining it was long and I was relishing every
- 1:33:46Speaker 12: moment yeah It's like, this is so awesome.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: Kill more people.
- 1:33:50Speaker 11: How many times did they shoot the lawyer? It keeps
- 1:33:53Speaker 11: going on and on. How many times did they shoot
- 1:33:55Speaker 11: Breaking Away? I just call him Breaking Away because I
- 1:34:00Speaker 11: don't know his name.
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: Same thing. They kept shooting Breaking Away.
- 1:34:07Speaker 12: So this one might make you happy. It's a happy
- 1:34:10Speaker 12: question anyway. I did like it when they threw it
- 1:34:12Speaker 12: in there last year. dreariest study of a human condition
- 1:34:16Speaker 12: in a film of 2012. Based on some of your feelings,
- 1:34:20Speaker 12: I think you'll be okay, at least Fred.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: Oddly enough, Dark Knight Rises.
- 1:34:25Speaker 8: That's what I've heard.
- 1:34:29Speaker 6: Yeah. I just didn't get into it.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: They just kept pushing the, well, it's got to be
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: bigger than the last one.
- 1:34:35Speaker 12: And darker.
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: You had a good movie there, and you had to
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: just hack on all this shit.
- 1:34:45Speaker 18: I thought it was too pussy to be darker than
- 1:34:47Speaker 18: the last one, honestly.
- 1:34:48Speaker 24: It wasn't Batman.
- 1:34:49Speaker 18: I thought more people like me and characters would die.
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: Nobody did.
- 1:34:53Speaker 18: Alfred's okay. Even Lucius Fox is okay.
- 1:34:56Speaker 3: Nothing bad.
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: There were no consequences to these apocalyptic settings that they
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: were telling you the trailer.
- 1:35:01Speaker 18: The trailer was saying that things were going to all
- 1:35:02Speaker 18: go down.
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: Nothing went down.
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: It wasn't Batman, it was Superman in a Batman costume.
- 1:35:09Speaker 4: I think the whole problem was that three-fourths of the
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: movie in, or two-thirds in, when Bane takes over the city.
- 1:35:15Speaker 12: I really feel like... Oh yeah, Bane was in there.
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: I really feel like the Nolans, they asked themselves, well,
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: we've painted ourselves into a corner with this script.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: What do we do now?
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: It's like, well, wait a minute, that bomb he was
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: going to set off, Let's make it to where he
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: could set it off at any time. And he's going
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: to sit on it for eight months, which happens to
- 1:35:42Speaker 4: be the amount of time it takes for Batman to recover.
- 1:35:46Speaker 4: But wait a minute, Batman couldn't take over the city
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: by himself. Let's have it to where the entire police force...
- 1:35:53Speaker 4: is still healthy. Still armed. And they still have pressed suits.
- 1:35:59Speaker 4: They're still, like, clean-shaven and everything. They're just ready to go.
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: But they're trapped by a small landslide in the sewers.
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: Oh, God. I'm so bored.
- 1:36:11Speaker 12: There's a lot of odd circumstances.
- 1:36:13Speaker 18: The whole movie, Catwoman's been around since you can have
- 1:36:15Speaker 18: a change of heart.
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: And then when Batman.
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: When Batman finally shows up and when the police are
- 1:36:22Speaker 4: finally deciding to make their last move, oh, that happens
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: to be the day to where the bomb's going to.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: Go off in two hours.
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: How about that, son of a bitch?
- 1:36:30Speaker 10: How stupid is the Gotham Police Force that they would
- 1:36:34Speaker 10: send the entire city's Matthew Modine's police into the sewers? Like,
- 1:36:41Speaker 10: not even leave one cop. It's like, Every single cop
- 1:36:44Speaker 10: that exists in this city.
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: Nobody had the day off. Send him underground now.
- 1:36:50Speaker 6: Batman, I thought Batman was so disappointing. Because I liked
- 1:36:55Speaker 6: the fun of the previous Batman, but it's just they
- 1:36:58Speaker 6: couldn't keep it going, I think.
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: It has its moments, but there's so many weird plot holes.
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: I love Batman.
- 1:37:05Speaker 6: You Batman can't walk with a fucking cane?
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: He's Batman!
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: He did nothing for eight years? This is like, what?
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: This is not Batman anymore. This is like, bad old dude.
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: That's not near.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: As catchy a title.
- 1:37:24Speaker 21: No.
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: I think maybe if they'd started it out with him
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: down in the pit with his back broken, and you
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: had flashbacks leading up to that, that sort of.
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: Would have worked.
- 1:37:34Speaker 12: That you could cut down and trample. Yeah, so that
- 1:37:37Speaker 12: way by the time you.
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: Got to that point, it didn't feel so drawn out.
- 1:37:41Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:37:42Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:37:43Speaker 18: Christopher Nolan's strong suit was non-chronological structured films for a
- 1:37:46Speaker 18: long time. Dark Knight was the first one to really
- 1:37:49Speaker 18: break that.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: And it seems as though Dark Knight Rises, he was
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: following it, while Batman Begins is exactly what you described.
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: It did put things out of order, and it worked
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: very well that way.
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: It lacked this whole element of kicking ass that you
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: want in a Batman film, I think. That's what you're
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: looking for.
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: You don't get a whole lot of that.
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: No, you don't.
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:38:13Speaker 12: Well, now I'm actually kind of, you know, I was
- 1:38:17Speaker 12: really curious to see what people came through because now
- 1:38:19Speaker 12: we've hit the actual movie meltdown related questions. I like
- 1:38:23Speaker 12: hearing what people specifically commented on about the stuff we
- 1:38:27Speaker 12: did or just weird things connected to the show one
- 1:38:31Speaker 12: of which this was one that came around like initially
- 1:38:33Speaker 12: when we came up with this category which is the
- 1:38:35Speaker 12: celebrity you would most like misty punch in the face
- 1:38:38Speaker 12: which we just got a big string of people so
- 1:38:40Speaker 12: I'm just going to go through them all here Dane
- 1:38:42Speaker 12: Cook which seems obvious Three Stooges Slapped to the Kardashian
- 1:38:48Speaker 12: Sisters Seems good. Chris Brown, rightfully so. Michael Caine, specifically
- 1:38:55Speaker 12: for all the blubbering in the Batman movie. I was like, alright,
- 1:39:00Speaker 12: he was pretty damn blubbering.
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: Michael Caine.
- 1:39:03Speaker 12: And I think just personal vendetta for Tom Savini.
- 1:39:10Speaker 6: Who was it that Stewie Griffin drove and then bought
- 1:39:16Speaker 6: a ladder at a hardware store?
- 1:39:17Speaker 9: Gold Barrel.
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: Will Ferrell.
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: And then he climbed up on the ladder and punched
- 1:39:22Speaker 6: him in the face. For Bewitched.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: Specifically for Bewitched, if I remember. That's right. So, 18,
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: we had the.
- 1:39:31Speaker 12: And I broke them up into interviews versus the guest
- 1:39:34Speaker 12: host that sat in.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: So, the favorite.
- 1:39:36Speaker 12: Interview of 2012.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: Again, actually a tie.
- 1:39:39Speaker 12: And two, neither of which was where I thought people
- 1:39:41Speaker 12: were going.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: One, Joanna Cassidy. Which was a pretty cool interview. That
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: was a great interview.
- 1:39:47Speaker 12: Nobody really said anything at the time, so I just
- 1:39:49Speaker 12: figured nobody cared. And then more recent, the Chiodo brothers.
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: Yeah, that was a good interview too.
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: Everybody kind of liked them. They were cool.
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: Definitely.
- 1:40:02Speaker 12: Next was the other half, the special guest that we
- 1:40:04Speaker 12: roped into actually hanging out for way too long.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: Yeah, most of it went to Richard Kiel.
- 1:40:11Speaker 12: Everybody liked hanging out with Richard Kiel.
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: He's a sweet guy.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: He's an interesting character.
- 1:40:16Speaker 12: Yeah, I didn't know a lot of that stuff of
- 1:40:19Speaker 12: his early kind of getting involved in it stuff.
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: I think that was really interesting.
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: He was very proud of his ability to sell cars.
- 1:40:28Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: That was cool. He's good at it.
- 1:40:31Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: And he's good at flipping real estate. He took proud
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: of whatever he did. He tried to do his best,
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: and he took pride in it.
- 1:40:39Speaker 28: That's cool.
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: He didn't seem to do all of it. He didn't
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: seem to make any distinctions.
- 1:40:45Speaker 12: This one, we went with just what was your favorite
- 1:40:47Speaker 12: specific movie discussion from 2012. Again, not what I expected,
- 1:40:50Speaker 12: and way back to the very beginning of the year,
- 1:40:52Speaker 12: almost unanimous, like one vote shy, everyone went with Brick.
- 1:40:57Speaker 9: Really? Yeah.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: Everybody went with it. That was a cool movie.
- 1:41:01Speaker 12: That was like one of the first things when we
- 1:41:03Speaker 12: crossed over into 2012. I figured everybody had forgotten about that.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: Yeah, and I thought I was lackluster on that one. Well,
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: me too.
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: I thought I was lackluster on all.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: Of them, but.
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: Well, yeah.
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: I still like the episode where we're reminiscing over movies
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: that moved us.
- 1:41:22Speaker 12: That's a different category.
- 1:41:22Speaker 9: Yeah, I know, but.
- 1:41:24Speaker 12: It's still kind of.
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm sorry.
- 1:41:26Speaker 6: I didn't know about these categories. You Well, you're on
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: the show.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: You can't vote for her.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: You can't vote for her.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: Fred's picks. Can't we cheat?
- 1:41:34Speaker 6: Sure.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: They do at the Oscars.
- 1:41:36Speaker 12: Right.
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: Like, how did I know Jennifer Lawrence was going to win?
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: I knew that last year. I knew that before they
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: made a movie.
- 1:41:45Speaker 6: Because that's where she's going.
- 1:41:48Speaker 12: She was on the schedule this year.
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: Yeah, she's on that track. I said, okay, what we'll
- 1:41:55Speaker 6: do is we'll get you an Oscar or not. Oscar
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: movie this coming year and then after that we'll see
- 1:42:02Speaker 6: what happens.
- 1:42:05Speaker 12: We'll go into the other extreme from their favorite to
- 1:42:08Speaker 12: what movie that movie meltdown watched in 2012 would you
- 1:42:11Speaker 12: be most embarrassed to tell your friends that you've actually seen?
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: Yetting.
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: Starcrush.
- 1:42:19Speaker 12: Got a complete rundown of different ones so I'll just
- 1:42:22Speaker 12: throw them all out there.
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: We got some Zardoz.
- 1:42:27Speaker 8: Star Crash.
- 1:42:28Speaker 12: We got a creature thrown in there. We got the thing,
- 1:42:32Speaker 12: the 2012 version, because specifically they.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: Have a rep to protect. I like that addition.
- 1:42:39Speaker 12: And the final one, they said they were generally.
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Unable to be embarrassed.
- 1:42:43Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:42:45Speaker 6: I think creature probably was.
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: The worst thing. Like the Yeti movie, you can laugh at.
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: Yeti's at least entertaining at points.
- 1:42:56Speaker 12: Creature is not really even that. And Klaus Kinski in space.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: Kinski has nothing to do with that. No, other than
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: be creepy.
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: Actually, I forgot what that movie was when you said Creature.
- 1:43:08Speaker 6: I couldn't place it.
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: The alien ripoff.
- 1:43:10Speaker 6: If you said Klaus Kinski in space, oh, that movie.
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: It should have been the name I said at the time.
- 1:43:16Speaker 12: Yeah, it was a waste of time. Ferris Bueller's dad.
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: A waste of space, as they say.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: Simone, you're right.
- 1:43:26Speaker 12: All right, so now the next one, the favorite grind discussion,
- 1:43:29Speaker 12: which we had all of the many different ones, but
- 1:43:32Speaker 12: what actually did win, movies that touched us in a
- 1:43:35Speaker 12: special way. I thought that was one of the better
- 1:43:39Speaker 12: episodes of the year myself.
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: I felt violated by it.
- 1:43:43Speaker 12: It was very personal.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Like it was your aunt.
- 1:43:46Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:43:49Speaker 12: But we had a couple, again, going back.
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: Here's my Aunt Joan Cusack.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: Well, she is kind of creepy.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: In an awesome way.
- 1:43:57Speaker 12: We did have some for, like, the remix one, which, again,
- 1:43:59Speaker 12: was really far back there.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: I was surprised people... That was early, yeah.
- 1:44:03Speaker 26: Yeah.
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: And the traumatic movies, we had some. Oh, that was fun.
- 1:44:06Speaker 12: I like the traumatic movies. You could do that every week.
- 1:44:09Speaker 3: That was early, too.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: That was, like, February as well.
- 1:44:11Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:44:12Speaker 6: Some early stuff. Traumatic movies. That's so... So rich.
- 1:44:19Speaker 12: And we had, this was probably the first year we
- 1:44:21Speaker 12: had so many that didn't fall into our normal. We
- 1:44:24Speaker 12: had the ones where we kept veering off into other
- 1:44:26Speaker 12: random non-movie related.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: More than regular.
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: It's my fault, I'm sorry.
- 1:44:31Speaker 12: Two of which were your fault. But it was the
- 1:44:33Speaker 12: favorite other episode. So they really were like, I guess
- 1:44:37Speaker 12: you can count last year's Oscar coverage was sort of
- 1:44:40Speaker 12: like that. And then the spooky theater stories was one,
- 1:44:43Speaker 12: which I thought, you know.
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: Well, see, that's my fault, but in a good way.
- 1:44:45Speaker 12: The real world Bigfoot stories, that was pretty awesome.
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: That was my fault and Dave's as well.
- 1:44:51Speaker 7: And both of.
- 1:44:52Speaker 12: Those got votes, though. People liked the Bigfoot stories. They
- 1:44:54Speaker 12: liked the theater stories. The winner, and again, kind of
- 1:44:58Speaker 12: got most of the votes. It surprised the hell out
- 1:45:00Speaker 12: of me. The Star Wars Holiday Special.
- 1:45:03Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:45:04Speaker 12: I figured people were suffering with us.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: I think they liked hearing our pain.
- 1:45:11Speaker 12: I think that's what it was.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: I think it was.
- 1:45:12Speaker 12: Endearing to them because they, I guess, had watched it
- 1:45:15Speaker 12: and suffered too, and they wanted, I don't know.
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: Pleasure.
- 1:45:19Speaker 10: I guess.
- 1:45:19Speaker 12: I guess that's what it came down to.
- 1:45:21Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like that traveling show, The Duke and the
- 1:45:23Speaker 6: Dolphin in Huck Finn. And what happens is everybody goes
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: to the show, and it's horrible. But then they go
- 1:45:31Speaker 6: out and they tell everybody else to go because they
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: don't want to be the only ones to have suffered
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: through it.
- 1:45:39Speaker 12: And the add-ons here to round this thing out. Because
- 1:45:41Speaker 12: I specifically, when we got to the hottest guy or girl,
- 1:45:45Speaker 12: all of the girls who were supposed to vote flaked
- 1:45:48Speaker 12: out and didn't come through for us.
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: So that's their own fault, really.
- 1:45:51Speaker 12: But when I was throwing the question out there, I
- 1:45:54Speaker 12: said that to Lucy and she said, so does that
- 1:45:56Speaker 12: mean I get the only vote for hottest guy of 2012? So,
- 1:46:00Speaker 12: I believe she didn't like the pressure of having quote-unquote
- 1:46:04Speaker 12: Lucy's Hottest Pick of 2012. But she still went ahead
- 1:46:07Speaker 12: and came up with it. So she says Jim Sturgis
- 1:46:10Speaker 12: from whatever role he existed in in Cloud Atlas.
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: Oh.
- 1:46:15Speaker 6: What role was that? Take your pick.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: Multiple roles.
- 1:46:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:20Speaker 12: She thought that he should be the sexy counter male
- 1:46:23Speaker 12: to the sexy female.
- 1:46:25Speaker 6: Who was the sexy female? Hal Holbrook.
- 1:46:29Speaker 12: Oh, Emma?
- 1:46:29Speaker 3: Emma.
- 1:46:30Speaker 9: Really?
- 1:46:31Speaker 12: Were you not there for that part?
- 1:46:32Speaker 6: I voted for it, but now I'm contesting it.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Were you not there for Hal Holbrook when you won
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: Best Female?
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: It was hot.
- 1:46:41Speaker 12: We did have one specific listener who said.
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: I like the more... Jowls, turn me on.
- 1:46:47Speaker 12: I was trying to say, I was like, do you
- 1:46:49Speaker 12: want all these movie meltdown nonsense? And he said, the
- 1:46:52Speaker 12: more meltdown-ish, the better. So he also specifically said we
- 1:46:56Speaker 12: should do And again, she's hardly on the show, but
- 1:46:59Speaker 12: everybody likes her not crazy comments.
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: Misty's choice for best sci-fi original movie.
- 1:47:04Speaker 12: Oh, yeah. To which her official answer is, whichever had
- 1:47:08Speaker 12: Koronimic or Sharks. Yeah. Technically, based on the list I
- 1:47:13Speaker 12: came up with, the only one that fits that bill
- 1:47:16Speaker 12: of either is Jersey Shore Shark Attack. Yeah. Which they
- 1:47:20Speaker 12: did seem to enjoy, so I guess that's.
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: What did they say that was.
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: Oh, not the situation with the... Oh, God.
- 1:47:29Speaker 8: We had to look it up and make sure it
- 1:47:31Speaker 8: was terrible.
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: Like the conundrum or something like that. They named one
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: of the guys. I forget. It was bad.
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: What was it they said on SNL that at the
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: end of Jersey Shore it turns out that it was
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: all a dream in the mind of a meatball with syphilis?
- 1:47:52Speaker 9: Oh, God.
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: So the hottest girl was Emma Watson? And I contributed
- 1:47:58Speaker 6: to that. Yeah, that was partially your doing.
- 1:48:00Speaker 12: You broke the tie. It was a tie until.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: You came along.
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: Who was the tie with?
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: Jennifer Lawrence.
- 1:48:06Speaker 12: No!
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: Neither one of those! I mean, come on!
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: Judy Dench. Now, let's move on. Well, then you have
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: to get more.
- 1:48:16Speaker 12: Because, again, they all come from people out there.
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: Well, I mean, one of the choices was... like the
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: girl in Looper, Emily Blunt. Yeah, she's hot, but that
- 1:48:25Speaker 6: was such a, God, that movie made me so tired.
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: I was so tired.
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: What about the lady in Django?
- 1:48:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:48:35Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:48:35Speaker 6: She was not hard to look at.
- 1:48:37Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: Well, there was one scene.
- 1:48:41Speaker 8: She has an ugly laugh.
- 1:48:42Speaker 6: Oh, and that's such a deal breaker.
- 1:48:46Speaker 12: Actually, I like Candy.
- 1:48:47Speaker 6: A bad laugh.
- 1:48:49Speaker 12: The girl at the halfway point when he gets in
- 1:48:51Speaker 12: there and she's like, I know.
- 1:48:52Speaker 7: You didn't mean it.
- 1:48:53Speaker 8: Who was that girl?
- 1:48:55Speaker 6: She was awesome. That girl. Marlo Thomas.
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: Not Marlo Thomas at all.
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: Who was Marlo Thomas?
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: Marlo Thomas.
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: But it was not Brunhilde laughing.
- 1:49:05Speaker 7: It was God.
- 1:49:11Speaker 6: God, this is such a disgrace to hot women everywhere.
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: This whole category is just not fair.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: You're just picking it from a very different perspective.
- 1:49:24Speaker 6: I don't know. I'm going to go ahead and say,
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: fuck that Rosario Dawson, who did nothing this year.
- 1:49:31Speaker 12: I can't argue.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: She's pretty damn good.
- 1:49:33Speaker 6: Yes, she looks a little bit like every woman you
- 1:49:36Speaker 6: ever cared about.
- 1:49:38Speaker 12: That's her own special category right there.
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: There you go. Okay, Lifetime Achievement Award for hotness. That's
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: what we're doing.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: Rosario gets it.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:49:52Speaker 12: All right.
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:49:53Speaker 9: Why not?
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: Good enough.
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: Who else has disappeared this year? A lot of people.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: What's his name? Well, you mentioned that the other.
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: There are people who are off the radar this year.
- 1:50:06Speaker 6: That's interesting.
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: The chick from Sin City you haven't seen in forever.
- 1:50:11Speaker 6: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: Jessica Alba?
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: Jessica Alba was always like a little brown mouse.
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: She was just not.
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: Like really intriguing.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: I haven't seen her in a while.
- 1:50:29Speaker 8: I always thought she was a mega babe.
- 1:50:31Speaker 12: I didn't.
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: I didn't think she was interesting.
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: I liked her in Idle Hands.
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: So I did it from there.
- 1:50:41Speaker 9: Really?
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: I haven't seen that. I think the thing that affected
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: me the most was the clueless. Okay, now we're on Brittany.
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: I hope you're talking about Dan Hedaya if you're talking clueless.
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: Shit, I'm tired.
- 1:50:58Speaker 6: What about Ben? What's his name? He's not doing anything.
- 1:51:00Speaker 9: Kingsley? No.
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: We have a big guy.
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: Yeah, from something about Mary. What's he doing? Stiller?
- 1:51:10Speaker 15: Stiller.
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: Yeah, he's disappeared off the face of the earth.
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: That's a shame. Chris O'Donnell was on TV the other day.
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: Speak of O'Donnell and he will appear.
- 1:51:22Speaker 12: He's there every week.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: Just wait. Or Alicia Silverstone, whatever happened to her.
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: Yeah, she disappeared.
- 1:51:26Speaker 8: She was on Suburgatory.
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: Huh.
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: Odd little reunion there.
- 1:51:31Speaker 9: Huh.
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: There are all these people who take like years off
- 1:51:35Speaker 6: that you don't hear about for a while and then
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: they will emerge.
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: They have kids and then they have like weird family lives. Yeah.
- 1:51:43Speaker 6: I seriously believe at least four of the greatest moments
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: in film happened in one movie. That man arrives.
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: No, I think it was the anniversary party.
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: I think maybe half a dozen of the greatest moments
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: of film happened in that movie.
- 1:52:03Speaker 12: I just wanted to put that in.
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: The anniversary party for what?
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: Flight of the Navigator?
- 1:52:08Speaker 8: No, no.
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: It was like when What's Her Name came out of
- 1:52:12Speaker 6: retirement for one last score. Playing a woman, an actress,
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: a retired actress who is married to Kevin Kline. And
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: in the movie she's a retired actress married to Kevin Kline.
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: Phoebe Cates.
- 1:52:24Speaker 8: Phoebe Cates.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: It was a great movie.
- 1:52:27Speaker 6: And she has this great moment in it and the
- 1:52:30Speaker 6: bell will go off because I've said this before. Where
- 1:52:34Speaker 6: she says, having kids, you can't, after you have.
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: Kids, you can't put your head in an oven.
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: They take away that option.
- 1:52:44Speaker 8: Nobody tells you.
- 1:52:45Speaker 6: And she's like, she breaks character as though she's in
- 1:52:50Speaker 6: a character because she's playing Phoebe Cates.
- 1:52:53Speaker 7: And she just looks directly.
- 1:52:54Speaker 8: Out at the screen and says.
- 1:52:56Speaker 6: You can't do that anymore.
- 1:52:58Speaker 3: Directly at the screen.
- 1:53:00Speaker 4: I think you're quoting Gremlins too.
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: You're getting mixed up.
- 1:53:05Speaker 2: She looks directly at you and gives.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: You the old case.
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: There's a great Gremlins moment that happened in my sister-in-law's basement.
- 1:53:14Speaker 6: Because there was a weird smell in her basement and
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: she asked me to come over and find it. And
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: I started going down the steps and as soon as
- 1:53:22Speaker 6: I start going down the steps I see she has
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: a stuffed Gremlin. like just sitting by the steps so
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: immediately I pick it up and turn around and go
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: here's your problem and she freaks the.
- 1:53:33Speaker 8: Fuck out she's like ahhh.
- 1:53:37Speaker 6: And later I found out like there was like a
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: whole rotted squirrel down in the basement it was rotted
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: flat as though it had been run over by a
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: cartoon truck but yeah the Fred trivia moment I have
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: in an envelope here I mentioned long ago, recently I mentioned,
- 1:54:01Speaker 6: a kid told me they remembered this movie where a
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: guy goes through or into a thing or something. And
- 1:54:11Speaker 6: then later, in a shed, something happened. But that was
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: before the other part where the guy goes through or
- 1:54:18Speaker 6: into a thing or something. And we guessed and we guessed.
- 1:54:22Speaker 6: We tried to figure out what this movie was. It
- 1:54:25Speaker 6: went on for months. And then at the end of
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: my story, I was like, oh yeah, I don't remember
- 1:54:30Speaker 6: what it was. We eventually found it, but I don't
- 1:54:32Speaker 6: know what it was. But it was Don't Look Under
- 1:54:36Speaker 6: the Bed.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: 1999 Disney movie.
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: That's what it was. A thing with a thing in
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: a shed.
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: Yeah, a guy goes through or into a thing or something.
- 1:54:49Speaker 1: Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:54:51Speaker 6: That's what it was.
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: Good, didn't it?
- 1:54:53Speaker 10: I thought maybe it had some kind of relation to
- 1:54:55Speaker 10: Don't Look in the Basement.
- 1:54:57Speaker 2: Another awesome movie.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: Good call.
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: It may have some sort of relation. We'll have to
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: investigate that when we're off duty. Was that all the
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: actual real categories?
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that was rounded out.
- 1:55:14Speaker 6: And how does everybody feel about the Oscars?
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: Are you excited?
- 1:55:17Speaker 6: Disenchanted or are you like has it I.
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: Got to actually see some of it this year that's unusual.
- 1:55:23Speaker 12: Compared to last year's extravaganza I.
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: Always like to watch it because it restores my lack
- 1:55:29Speaker 6: of faith in humanity I think it was about 1970
- 1:55:33Speaker 6: you can mark where I've seen every Oscar winning film
- 1:55:38Speaker 6: best picture from 1970 except I never saw Chariots of
- 1:55:42Speaker 6: Fire there might have been one other I never saw
- 1:55:48Speaker 6: Before that, I've seen this one, that one, this one,
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: that one. Not this one. You have to skip around
- 1:55:54Speaker 6: a little bit. But once you hit 1970, which is
- 1:55:58Speaker 6: like Midnight Cowboy, after that, I've seen virtually all of them.
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: Except for maybe one here or there. And the one
- 1:56:09Speaker 6: that broke my heart was Platoon. I think I've mentioned.
- 1:56:13Speaker 6: If they're going to give Best Picture to Platoon... I'm not,
- 1:56:18Speaker 6: I don't care anymore. I just don't care. And then
- 1:56:21Speaker 6: when Kevin Costner gave a speech for Dances with Wolves,
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: I'm like, okay, this is a joke now.
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: It's a joke.
- 1:56:31Speaker 6: He's like, my mother cares about this.
- 1:56:34Speaker 12: Sure, of course.
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: Why do you, come on. Yeah, Oscars.
- 1:56:42Speaker 6: We watch them.
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:56:44Speaker 6: I have this love-hate thing. I want to watch it,
- 1:56:47Speaker 6: but it breaks my heart.
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: On that cheery note, I think we should round out
- 1:56:53Speaker 2: this episode.
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it's late. Is it? Well, you're a
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: night person.
- 1:57:00Speaker 6: Are we going to start drinking sometime soon?
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: That's funny. I think we are done. Blame it on Moe.
- 1:57:08Speaker 12: We're wrapping it up. Thank you again to Moe for
- 1:57:12Speaker 12: letting us break into.
- 1:57:13Speaker 2: His house and hang around on Oscar night, so.
- 1:57:17Speaker 12: In honor of this week's movie and Hal Needham himself,
- 1:57:20Speaker 12: we're going to go out with the Hooper theme song, which, again,
- 1:57:24Speaker 12: is pretty damn close to the Fall Guy, so if
- 1:57:25Speaker 12: you've seen that, it sounds familiar. Otherwise, that about does it.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: We will return next week. Same geek time, same geek feed.
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: Thanks for listening.
- 1:57:33Speaker 15: He always is the bad guy who gets it in
- 1:57:36Speaker 15: the end.
- 1:57:37Speaker 34: He's out there stopping horses or falling off a train.
- 1:57:40Speaker 34: He never won a gunfight, squabble, or brawl. For being
- 1:57:45Speaker 34: such a loser, Hooper's really got it all.
- 1:57:50Speaker 9: You can toss him, blast him, flip him, and turn him.
- 1:57:52Speaker 7: Shoot him, hang him, bury him, burn him.
- 1:57:54Speaker 9: Chances are, Hooper's back for.
- 1:57:58Speaker 6: More.
- 1:57:58Speaker 9: Run him out, cross the ground. Take the truck, run
- 1:58:01Speaker 9: him down.
- 1:58:02Speaker 29: He ain't easy.
- 1:58:04Speaker 7: He's up and gone.
- 1:58:05Speaker 9: You can hit him, kick him, generally abuse him.
- 1:58:07Speaker 1: Set him on fire, will abuse him.
- 1:58:09Speaker 12: Have a nose.
- 1:58:10Speaker 9: He won't hold a grudge.
- 1:58:13Speaker 34: He'll look you in the eye and tell you with
- 1:58:15Speaker 34: a smile there ain't nothing like the.
- 1:58:17Speaker 12: Life of a Hollywood stuntman.
- 1:58:53Speaker 34: Some folks used to tell him he ought to settle down,
- 1:58:56Speaker 34: find a steady woman, land a job in town. But
- 1:59:00Speaker 34: somehow that attraction never seemed too great. You always see
- 1:59:04Speaker 34: him leaving just before it gets too late. Going down
- 1:59:11Speaker 34: the highway, really on the ground. Never under 80, judging
- 1:59:16Speaker 34: from the sound. Later in the evening, he's tearing up
- 1:59:20Speaker 34: the town. Always seems to end up with the prettiest
- 1:59:23Speaker 34: girl around.
- 1:59:27Speaker 12: You can toss him, blast him, flip him and turn him.
- 1:59:29Speaker 7: Shoot him, hang him, bury.
- 1:59:31Speaker 9: Him, burn him.
- 1:59:31Speaker 12: Chances are, Hooper's back for more.
- 1:59:35Speaker 9: Run him out across the ground. Take a truck, run
- 1:59:38Speaker 9: him down.
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: He ain't easy.
- 1:59:41Speaker 9: He's up and gone.
- 1:59:42Speaker 27: You can hit him, kick.
- 1:59:43Speaker 3: Him, generally abuse him.
- 1:59:44Speaker 1: Set him on fire, we'll amuse him.
- 1:59:46Speaker 15: Heaven knows he won't hold a grudge.
- 1:59:50Speaker 9: He'll look you in.
- 1:59:51Speaker 34: The eye and tell you with a smile there ain't
- 1:59:53Speaker 34: nothing like the life of.
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: A Hollywood stuntman.
- 1:59:57Speaker 20: He'll look you in the eye and tell you.
- 2:00:00Speaker 14: With a smile there ain't nothing like the life.
- 2:00:02Speaker 8: Nothing like the life.
- 2:00:03Speaker 9: There ain't nothing like the.
- 2:00:05Speaker 12: Life of a Hollywood stuntman, stuntman.
- 2:00:07Speaker 9: Stuntman, stuntman. Hello? Hello?
- 2:00:10Speaker 24: It's not really recording, is it?
- 2:00:13Speaker 6: It is.
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: Oh! Sorry about that.
- 2:00:14Speaker 3: We are picking Oscar winners.
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: I've picked mine. I won last year. I'm feeling good
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: about it.
- 2:00:34Speaker 6: So I think I'm going to win this year. Yeah,
- 2:00:38Speaker 6: I'm going to.
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: Get that prize.
- 2:00:39Speaker 12: You know it.
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: You know why? Because I listen to the street.
- 2:00:43Speaker 28: Yeah.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: You don't even know who the hell I am, do you? Damn,
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: I'm a handsome man. Look at him. He's thinking that.
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: George Clooney's thinking that. Damn, I'm a handsome man.
- 2:00:59Speaker 22: Is there a more handsome man than me in this
- 2:01:02Speaker 22: whole audience?
- 2:01:03Speaker 9: No.
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: Hell no. He's not more handsome than me.
- 2:01:07Speaker 9: Denzel is.
- 2:01:08Speaker 3: That's what George Clooney is thinking.
- 2:01:09Speaker 1: Damn, I'm a handsome man.
- 2:01:11Speaker 22: He gets up every morning and thinks that.
- 2:01:22Speaker 3: Nice to meet you. I enjoyed it.
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: I enjoyed it.
- 2:01:25Speaker 21: Hope to see you all again soon.
- 2:01:28Speaker 15: Good to meet you.
- 2:01:29Speaker 3: Yes, it's been a lot of fun.
- 2:01:31Speaker 9: Yes.
- 2:01:32Speaker 8: Wow, I see you all the time.
- 2:01:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:01:34Speaker 12: Can you feel the love?
- 2:01:37Speaker 3: Fuck you.
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: You're familiar to me.
- 2:01:39Speaker 7: Hope to see you all again soon.
- 2:01:42Speaker 3: It's been fun. It's been fun. It's been a lot
- 2:01:44Speaker 3: of fun. See ya.
- 2:01:45Speaker 7: He can watch Skyfall in there.
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: I think Skyfall's over again. Oh, wow.
- 2:01:53Speaker 7: Make sure you serve a lot of alcohol when you do.
- 2:01:56Speaker 21: The dude is Brian Gavin.
- 2:01:59Speaker 3: He knows how to make food.
- 2:02:03Speaker 28: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
