- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:06to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host, Andrew McGivern for November 22nd.
- 0:12Today is Go for a Ride Day, celebrating the simple joy of
- 0:16movement and exploration. This unofficial holiday
- 0:20encourages us to hop on whatever moves us around.
- 0:24A bike, a car, a motorcycle, a horse, even a boat and just go.
- 0:30No particular destination is required.
- 0:33The point isn't to see where you end up, it's the experience of
- 0:37getting there. This day has special
- 0:39significance and transportation history.
- 0:42On this day in 19 O 4, the variable speed motor was
- 0:46patented. In 1927, the snowmobile received
- 0:50its patent, and in 1977, the Concorde began regular
- 0:56commercial flights between New York and Paris.
- 0:59But Go for a Ride day isn't about speed or technology.
- 1:04It's about rediscovering what we knew as kids, that riding itself
- 1:09is the reward. And that brings us to today's
- 1:12quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, who captured this perfectly when
- 1:18he wrote It's Not the Destination, it's the journey.
- 1:24Emerson understood that we're obsessed with arrivals.
- 1:28We rush through experiences trying to find the next thing,
- 1:33the end goal, the final destination.
- 1:36But what if the getting there is the point?
- 1:40The wind in your hair, the scenery passing by, the
- 1:45unexpected turn down the road you never travelled, The
- 1:49conversation with whoever's riding along.
- 1:52These aren't delays before the real experience, they are the
- 1:57experience. Go for a ride.
- 1:59They invite us to stop treating travel as something to endure
- 2:03and start treating it as something to enjoy.
- 2:06Take the scenic route, make an unnecessary stop, get slightly
- 2:11lost. That's not wasting time, that's
- 2:14living it today. Go for a ride.
- 2:18Take the long way home from work or bike through a neighborhood
- 2:22that you've never explored. Drive with no destination.
- 2:26Walk a different route. Notice what you've been missing
- 2:30by always rushing to arrive. The interesting houses, the
- 2:35changing leaves, the quirky stores, the way the light hits
- 2:40things at certain times of day. And remember Emerson's wisdom.
- 2:45The journey itself is the destination, so ride slowly,
- 2:51look around and enjoy getting there.
- 2:54That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
- 2:57for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:02Same pod time, same pod stationed with another daily
- 3:09quote.
