  Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Thursday, it's the 25th of

  July and welcome, welcome to a chapter a day Bible reading

  podcast. Yep, that is what this is and

  that is what we do. We read a chapter of God's Word

  every day so that your day and mine can be peppered with can
• 0:32
  can be shaped to the rhythm of God's Word as we hear his words
• 0:39
  and they bounce around in US and we can reflect on them as we go
• 0:42
  about our day. Isn't that a great idea?
• 0:45
  And today, today is a day when the tables are turned.
• 0:50
  You know, we are very used to praying to Jesus, but today is
• 0:55
  the day when Jesus prays for us. What?
• 0:59
  Yes, this is the day, the final day that we will spend with
• 1:02
  Jesus and his disciples up in that room together.
• 1:06
  And this is the day where we will read this chapter where
• 1:09
  John captures this prayer that Jesus prays to his Father for
• 1:15
  you, friends, and for me. When Jesus prays all about what
• 1:20
  he hopes for his disciples, his followers, as he is about to
• 1:26
  head downstairs out into the garden to be captured and
• 1:29
  crucified and rise from the dead.
• 1:33
  So what an amazing thing. So as you hear these words, just
• 1:36
  let them soak in. These are the words of the Son
• 1:41
  of God praying to his Father the Almighty God for you.
• 1:47
  Wow, let's do that, shall we? Let's read together John chapter
• 1:52
  17. After saying all these things,
• 2:04
  Jesus looked up to heaven and said, Father, the hour has come,
• 2:11
  glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you.
• 2:16
  For you have given him authority over everyone.
• 2:20
  He gives eternal life to each one you have given him.
• 2:26
  And this is the way to have eternal life, to know you, the
• 2:31
  only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.
• 2:37
  I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you
• 2:42
  gave me to do. Now, Father, bring me into the
• 2:46
  glory we shared before the world began.
• 2:51
  I have revealed You to the ones you gave me from this world.
• 2:55
  They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they
• 3:00
  have kept Your word. Now they know that everything I
• 3:04
  have is a gift from You, for I have passed on to them the
• 3:09
  message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I
• 3:13
  came from you and they believe you sent me.
• 3:18
  My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me,
• 3:23
  because they belong to you. All who are mine belong to you,
• 3:28
  and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory.
• 3:35
  Now I'm departing from the world.
• 3:37
  They are staying in this world, but I'm coming to you, Holy
• 3:41
  Father, You have given me your name.
• 3:45
  Now protect them by the power of Your name, so they will be
• 3:50
  united just as we are. During my time here, I protected
• 3:55
  them by the power of the name you gave me.
• 3:58
  I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed
• 4:04
  for destruction, as the scriptures foretold.
• 4:08
  Now I'm coming to you. I told them many things while I
• 4:12
  was with them in this world so they would be filled with my
• 4:16
  joy. I have given them your word, and
• 4:20
  the world hates them because they do not belong to the world,
• 4:24
  just as I do not belong to the world.
• 4:27
  I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep
• 4:31
  them safe from the Evil 1. They do not belong to this world
• 4:35
  any more than I do. Make them holy by your truth.
• 4:41
  Teach them your word, which is truth.
• 4:45
  Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into
• 4:50
  the world, and I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them, so
• 4:55
  they can be made holy by your truth.
• 4:59
  I'm praying not only for these disciples, but also for all who
• 5:04
  will ever believe in me through their message.
• 5:07
  I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one
• 5:13
  as you are in me, Father, and I am in you, and may they be in us
• 5:19
  so that the world will believe you sent me.
• 5:24
  I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as
• 5:29
  we are one. I am in them and You are in me.
• 5:34
  May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know
• 5:39
  that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love
• 5:44
  me. Father, I want these whom you
• 5:47
  have given to me to be with me where I am.
• 5:51
  Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me
• 5:55
  even before the world began. Oh, righteous Father, the world
• 6:01
  doesn't know you, but I do, and these disciples know you sent
• 6:07
  me. I have revealed you to them, and
• 6:11
  I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in
• 6:16
  them and I will be in them. Jesus, you honour us in a way
• 6:33
  that is just completely mind blowing here in this moment
• 6:39
  before you were taken away, to face your ultimate destiny as a
• 6:42
  man, to be persecuted and to live through this most gruesome
• 6:47
  time and find yourself on that cross at Calvary for us.
• 6:52
  The last thing that you share with your disciples and with us
• 6:56
  is this beautiful prayer. This prayer where you ask your
• 7:01
  Father to care for us, to bring us truth, and to always draw us
• 7:07
  back to you out from this world so that our hearts may rest in
• 7:11
  you and your truth and love for us.
• 7:16
  Lord, I pray that this prayer would still shape us today, that
• 7:21
  yes, while we live in this world, we are not of this world,
• 7:26
  but you are our prize, You are our identity, and You are the
• 7:31
  wind behind us that gives us the momentum to take each step of
• 7:36
  each day. Our Lord, we just plant
• 7:40
  ourselves in you and in your eternal purpose and our part in
• 7:46
  that as part of your family, beloved and chosen and blessed
• 7:53
  by your Son. And so we thank you for Jesus
• 7:57
  and all he has done for us. And it's in his name that we
• 8:00
  pray. Amen.
