Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Now here's your host. That's a chopyde. Welcome into another
- 0:12Speaker 3: edition of Hawk Talk.
- 0:14Speaker 1: The Seahawks fall to the forty nine Ers seventeen to
- 0:16Speaker 1: thirteen in heartbracking, heartbreaking fashion.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Bump it was. It was a really rough game.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie to you, not because of how
- 0:23Speaker 1: the Seahawks played, just emotionally. It's the forty nine ers,
- 0:26Speaker 1: it's your rival, it's at home Week one, the game
- 0:28Speaker 1: counts in.
- 0:29Speaker 3: It uh so close.
- 0:31Speaker 4: It was a battle division battle.
- 0:32Speaker 5: This is These are the type of games you expect
- 0:34Speaker 5: when you play against the forty nine Ers, the Rams,
- 0:36Speaker 5: the Cardinals. But yeah, it was tough. Twelves were out
- 0:40Speaker 5: there were supporting, They were loud. It was loud and liman.
- 0:42Speaker 5: We appreciate that. I got to see Sam Darnold and
- 0:44Speaker 5: his offense go this defense. He lose in Maori early.
- 0:46Speaker 5: Who knows how that affects this team. But it was
- 0:48Speaker 5: a battle. Man, you had a chance to win the game,
- 0:50Speaker 5: just couldn't pull through.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Yeah, no question about it. And thank you for mentioning
- 0:52Speaker 1: the twelve because they did show up. It was super loud.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's unfortunate because when you look at the TV copy
- 0:56Speaker 1: you see some red behind the visitors bench, but if
- 0:58Speaker 1: you look at the entire stadium, the twelves were out there,
- 1:01Speaker 1: it was loud. They made it a tough time on
- 1:03Speaker 1: Rock Purty. He got pressured fifty seven percent of a time,
- 1:07Speaker 1: some kind of a career high against him.
- 1:08Speaker 3: So it was really tough to see what happened.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Unfortunately, the Seahawks do fall to zero in one in
- 1:12Speaker 1: the regular season. I know they'll be ready for Week
- 1:14Speaker 1: eighteen for that rematch. But we're here to talk about
- 1:17Speaker 1: what exactly happened against the forty nine ers, What did happened.
- 1:22Speaker 2: See what happened was what had happened at first was
- 1:26Speaker 2: what had happened was on Hawk Talk. This is a
- 1:30Speaker 2: game bump. I'm gonna go out and say it. I
- 1:31Speaker 2: think the Ox should have won this game.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Yep.
- 1:34Speaker 1: It's not one where you go, man, if we just
- 1:35Speaker 1: did this and that, it's like, no that every game
- 1:37Speaker 1: you can say comes down to what five or so
- 1:39Speaker 1: plays I decided the game. I understand that, but I
- 1:41Speaker 1: really feel like the Seahawks had this game won. Unfortunately,
- 1:44Speaker 1: the Rivals come into womenfield and win for the fourth
- 1:46Speaker 1: consecutive time. We just mentioned it. The atmosphere is crazy.
- 1:49Speaker 1: The twelves brought the energy, but division games were tough.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Every single division game is going to be a battle.
- 1:55Speaker 1: And the cool thing about this for me, Bump is
- 1:57Speaker 1: in years past, those three the last three game as
- 2:00Speaker 1: he lost the forty nine Ers at home.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Those games started off.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You were immediately down seventeen to nothing and you were calling,
- 2:05Speaker 1: scratching and everything you could to get back in the
- 2:07Speaker 1: football game. This was not the case. You were in
- 2:10Speaker 1: control of a lot of this game. You played well,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and that's why it hurt so much. But the game
- 2:15Speaker 1: got kicked off. Seahawks punted on their first possession after
- 2:17Speaker 1: four plays. Forty nine Ers come back with a fourteen
- 2:19Speaker 1: play ninety five yard drive ended with a five yard
- 2:22Speaker 1: touchdown to George Kittle. Forty nine Ers, though, were helped
- 2:25Speaker 1: out tremendously by a you know they Seahawks forced to
- 2:29Speaker 1: stop on third and nine. We get flagged for roughing
- 2:32Speaker 1: the passer penalty which gave the forty nine Ers an
- 2:34Speaker 1: extra set it down.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know about that penalty.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I kind of understand why the ref calls it,
- 2:39Speaker 5: but it's like, look, you got to be a human
- 2:40Speaker 5: being in that moment and not just go off of
- 2:43Speaker 5: a feel, Right, what did you see in that moment? So, no,
- 2:46Speaker 5: didn't agree with it, but that is football. You got
- 2:48Speaker 5: to deal with some adversity at times. And the Seahawks
- 2:51Speaker 5: would respond. They go ten plays, sixty nine yards and
- 2:53Speaker 5: it would a one yard touchdown to Zach scharbaday night
- 2:55Speaker 5: to see Zach touch the football ball twelve times that game.
- 2:58Speaker 5: The drive was helped by twenty one yard exception by
- 3:00Speaker 5: Jaysen and directs that by A J.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Barnet.
- 3:02Speaker 5: On third down, there was a pass interference call drawn
- 3:05Speaker 5: by Cooper Cup so you get some contributions from several places.
- 3:09Speaker 5: The next four drives will end in punts for both
- 3:11Speaker 5: teams though.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Yeah, so this kind of felt like, I said, a
- 3:14Speaker 1: heavyweight battle kind of early on those hardball Kaepernick, Russell Wilson,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Legion of boom type Seahawks. That's what this game felt
- 3:20Speaker 1: like here and talking to people around there in the stadium, bump,
- 3:23Speaker 1: it felt like a playoff atmosphere.
- 3:25Speaker 3: People were hitting it.
- 3:26Speaker 1: That's the type of football game this was the forty
- 3:28Speaker 1: nine ers, though would get something going. On the following drive,
- 3:30Speaker 1: they would go twelve plays fifty eight yards, we will
- 3:32Speaker 1: get no points. After Jake Moody hit the upright missing
- 3:35Speaker 1: at twenty seven yard field goal, and we talked of
- 3:37Speaker 1: his other post game show. He missed the field goal,
- 3:39Speaker 1: but the Seahawks pat block slash field goal block team.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Was on point today.
- 3:44Speaker 1: We'll talk about what happened later, but I feel like
- 3:46Speaker 1: this miss was influenced by the pressure of Leonard Williams
- 3:49Speaker 1: in the middle making that thing happen. Seahawks get the
- 3:52Speaker 1: ball back with fifty seven seconds remaining in the second corner.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Darnold led a great drive going eight plays fifty yards
- 3:58Speaker 1: which ended with a forty eight yard field goal by
- 4:00Speaker 1: Jason Myers. But what I loved about that on that
- 4:02Speaker 1: drive you have a twenty three yard big play supposed
- 4:04Speaker 1: to play Jason. That was the theme of the game.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Jason was going off. But you also had a probably
- 4:09Speaker 1: one of the best calls of the game, which is
- 4:10Speaker 1: as designed run for sam donold E motion everybody to leaft,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you pull everybody to the right, and he scampers off
- 4:15Speaker 1: for a nine yard game. Essentially locking up that field goal.
- 4:18Speaker 1: So that was really cool with the seas ten to
- 4:20Speaker 1: seven lead and a half.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Don't sleep in his mobility, don't sleep on man, especially
- 4:23Speaker 5: when you got an escort about three hundred pounds a
- 4:25Speaker 5: piece of offensive linemen leading you that way.
- 4:28Speaker 4: So yeah, great design, great execution. I like that.
- 4:31Speaker 5: And then you get into the third quarter, Ernest Jones
- 4:33Speaker 5: picks off Brock Party. The Seahawks were not able to
- 4:35Speaker 5: take advantage off.
- 4:36Speaker 4: That was the thing.
- 4:37Speaker 5: You get that turnover, you're feeling good, just can't take
- 4:39Speaker 5: advantage of that situation. The forty nine ers will respond
- 4:42Speaker 5: with a nice drive, taking up eight minutes on the clock,
- 4:46Speaker 5: driving fifty seven yards for fourteen plays.
- 4:48Speaker 4: However, they walked away with no points.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Jay Love, you talked about the special teams unit block
- 4:53Speaker 5: Jake Moody's field goal, and the Hawks are feeling good
- 4:56Speaker 5: ten to seven.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Yeah, And Julian Love blocking punts in blocking kicks, excuse me,
- 5:01Speaker 1: are is an art. You gotta get skinny, you gotta
- 5:03Speaker 1: try to separate in between. And Julian Love for everyone
- 5:06Speaker 1: watching out there a high school college NFL. That is
- 5:09Speaker 1: teach tape. That is how you go get a field
- 5:11Speaker 1: goal block he's done it before. It did against Patriots
- 5:13Speaker 1: last year, so that was cool. But unfortunately bump Seahawks
- 5:16Speaker 1: give it right back. As Jay said, bumble. He had
- 5:18Speaker 1: a two yard game, is trying to fight for yards upfield.
- 5:20Speaker 1: He put the ball on the ground, which is tough because,
- 5:22Speaker 1: like we said, he had a tremendous day.
- 5:23Speaker 3: But that one hurt.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Forty nine Ers would take advantage with another long drive,
- 5:26Speaker 1: going eleven plays fifty two yards. Seahawks will holding the
- 5:30Speaker 1: red zone, forcing the field goal, which tied the score
- 5:32Speaker 1: up at ten apiece.
- 5:34Speaker 4: Ten ten. You're in a good situation. You're feeling good.
- 5:37Speaker 5: The Hawks went three and out on the following drive,
- 5:39Speaker 5: giving the ball back to San Francisco, but two plays
- 5:42Speaker 5: later brought Perty through his second interception of the game,
- 5:44Speaker 5: and he was picked off by Josh Job.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Who had himself a nice little game man. I was
- 5:48Speaker 4: happy for Josh.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Now the Hawks will take advantage with six straight runs,
- 5:51Speaker 5: getting deep into forty nine is territory. But after a
- 5:54Speaker 5: six yard completion the Cooper Cup, the Seahawks found themselves
- 5:57Speaker 5: and fourth in when they opted to take the points
- 5:58Speaker 5: in Jason Myers at a d thirty seven yard field
- 6:01Speaker 5: goal making the score thirteen to ten with three minutes left,
- 6:05Speaker 5: three minutes remaining, I was okay with that situation. People
- 6:08Speaker 5: are questioning all they should have win four. Listen, you
- 6:10Speaker 5: take the points. You mentioned. This felt like a playoff game.
- 6:12Speaker 5: In a playoff game, you take the point. So I
- 6:15Speaker 5: was completely fine with that situation.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Well, especially not only that at home, your defense is
- 6:20Speaker 1: playing well. Yeakay McCaffrey isn't going off. You've intercepted Rock
- 6:24Speaker 1: Party two times. You're playing good football. I won thousand
- 6:27Speaker 1: percent agree with the call you. Your defensive unit right
- 6:30Speaker 1: now is a strength this football team, and you're gonna
- 6:32Speaker 1: lean on him in crunch time. But the forty nine ers, unfortunately,
- 6:35Speaker 1: they're gonna go sixty eight yards on seven plays, ending
- 6:38Speaker 1: with a Jake Tungus touchdown. Forty nine Ers go up
- 6:40Speaker 1: seventeen thirteen with one thirty four left in the game.
- 6:43Speaker 1: That play was set up by a forty five yard
- 6:45Speaker 1: pass from Rock Party, finding Ricky Piersoll.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Up the sideline. That one was tough.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I feel like nine times out of ten I think
- 6:51Speaker 1: Regal One will make that play again. We know how
- 6:53Speaker 1: talented he is. I think he got right back in
- 6:55Speaker 1: phase after the double move. Unfortunately just didn't wasn't able
- 6:58Speaker 1: to time that one up and then a touchdown, But
- 7:01Speaker 1: that looked like a broken play.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And then especially in the secondary the back seven.
- 7:05Speaker 1: You could do everything right on a play like that
- 7:07Speaker 1: for ten seconds, but if it's but if you missed
- 7:10Speaker 1: the last point one at the end, it's still gonna
- 7:13Speaker 1: be washed.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Tonguus makes a great play.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Reek's kind of not off balance, but he's drifting in
- 7:17Speaker 1: different direction and you just ripped it from him. And
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's tough, but that's what it was. I thought Dreek
- 7:22Speaker 1: was in great coverage. I expect good things from him
- 7:24Speaker 1: moving on. But bomp, take us through that last drive.
- 7:26Speaker 1: This was tough man.
- 7:28Speaker 4: Yeah, it was tough man.
- 7:28Speaker 5: Sam Donald then took the ball in Marcia's sehawks right
- 7:31Speaker 5: down the field. He hit Jason with eleven yard game
- 7:33Speaker 5: on first down. Then after incompletion he found Jason for
- 7:37Speaker 5: a forty yard game up the sideline. That was a
- 7:38Speaker 5: beautiful little honey hole shot in between the safety and
- 7:41Speaker 5: the corner over there. But then you know, you think
- 7:44Speaker 5: you're in the zone, you're feeling good about yourself, you're
- 7:48Speaker 5: inside the red zone. Sam Done goes back to pass
- 7:52Speaker 5: and the ball disappears when he throws his arm up
- 7:54Speaker 5: and I'm thinking, please have that hand be going forward,
- 7:56Speaker 5: Please have that hand be going forward. But what happens
- 7:58Speaker 5: unfortunately a Lucas pushed back into him and he runs
- 8:02Speaker 5: into him, balls drop fumble. Nick Bosa recovers and it
- 8:06Speaker 5: The worst part about that is that it was Nick Bosa.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Nick Bosa is a great football player. He's been a
- 8:11Speaker 5: thorn and are you know what for years and for
- 8:13Speaker 5: him to make that play in that moment, that hurt.
- 8:15Speaker 5: So it was just unfortunate. You turn the ball over.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Nine is one play, take a knee, game over. But
- 8:20Speaker 5: you had a chance to win that ball game, even
- 8:22Speaker 5: with some decision making that some people didn't like with
- 8:24Speaker 5: the field goal or whatnot.
- 8:25Speaker 6: So be it.
- 8:26Speaker 5: You take the points, but you respond, you're driving down
- 8:29Speaker 5: the field. You have a chance to win. That's all
- 8:30Speaker 5: you can ask for in a game like this. Another
- 8:33Speaker 5: question about it again, the Niners arrival. You gotta beat them.
- 8:36Speaker 5: They've been top of this division for a long time.
- 8:38Speaker 5: The Seahawks are right there.
- 8:40Speaker 1: If you would have told me bumped the offensive line
- 8:42Speaker 1: only gave a one sack before the game, I would
- 8:44Speaker 1: take that a million times or twice on Sunday. Unfortunately,
- 8:47Speaker 1: it wasn't to be for the Seahawks. The Niners did
- 8:49Speaker 1: out game the Hawks thirty eight, three hundred and eighty
- 8:51Speaker 1: four to two. Thirty forty nine Ers ran seventy two
- 8:54Speaker 1: plays compared to the Seahawks fifty in time possession. Coach
- 8:57Speaker 1: McDonald spoke about that in his radio show this morning,
- 8:59Speaker 1: that time of action was the biggest you know factor,
- 9:02Speaker 1: such stat that he looked at forty nine ers thirty
- 9:04Speaker 1: seven to fifty eight to the Seahawks twenty two to two.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And again, though I will stand by this, I'll stand
- 9:09Speaker 1: on business on this. I think this is a game
- 9:10Speaker 1: shock should have won. I cannot wait for this matchup
- 9:13Speaker 1: again because I'm sure it'll decide some really important playoff
- 9:17Speaker 1: implications down there. In Week eighteen, forty Niners made a
- 9:20Speaker 1: couple more players and Seahawks did, and they were able
- 9:22Speaker 1: to come out with a victory. But Bump, there were
- 9:24Speaker 1: a ton of playmakers.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Playmakers told him what time it is?
- 9:34Speaker 2: Ho Wait.
- 9:37Speaker 5: All right, First of all, we got to talk about
- 9:39Speaker 5: JSN nine receptions for one hundred and thirty four yards
- 9:41Speaker 5: on thirteen targets. This was the fourth one hundred yard
- 9:45Speaker 5: game of Jackson's career, and it started off hot. What
- 9:47Speaker 5: first second play, first game, first played, the game, Actually
- 9:50Speaker 5: it goes across the middle four a big what twenty
- 9:51Speaker 5: something yard game, and you felt like he has arrived
- 9:54Speaker 5: as the number one guy. Everyone is asking can he
- 9:57Speaker 5: be that number one guy? I believe there's a little
- 10:00Speaker 5: out in this building if he could do that or not.
- 10:02Speaker 5: And he showed up, man and showed out. You get
- 10:04Speaker 5: thirteen targets on twenty three attempts from Sam Donald. He's
- 10:06Speaker 5: clearly leaning on you to make some plays. He did
- 10:08Speaker 5: exactly that.
- 10:09Speaker 1: No, he was great, and honestly, there's a couple of
- 10:11Speaker 1: plays that he probably thought he could have made. There's
- 10:13Speaker 1: a one up the sideline which should have increased his stats.
- 10:15Speaker 1: That's a really hard play over around. I'm not saying
- 10:17Speaker 1: he should have made it. I'm just saying Jackson holds
- 10:19Speaker 1: such a high standard of himself. Said he thinks he
- 10:21Speaker 1: should make every play. Any ball throw in his direction
- 10:23Speaker 1: and he knows he can come down with it. So Jayson,
- 10:25Speaker 1: like you said, is proven he's a number one receiver
- 10:27Speaker 1: and he played like it on Sunday. Sam Donald, I
- 10:31Speaker 1: thought he played well. Sixteen to twenty three hundred fifty yards,
- 10:34Speaker 1: no touchdowns, but no interceptions. You know, the stats aren't
- 10:36Speaker 1: gonna wow you. The stats didn't have enough plays. Honestly,
- 10:39Speaker 1: I think fifty plays you want more than that. But
- 10:42Speaker 1: I liked what I saw for him. He took care
- 10:43Speaker 1: of the football, He didn't force anything, took what defense
- 10:45Speaker 1: gave him. So I was okay with what I saw
- 10:47Speaker 1: from Sam. Yeah, I was good with Sam.
- 10:49Speaker 5: He seemed clearminded and assertive with his decision making.
- 10:53Speaker 4: And that's all you can ask for.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Once that run game gets going, eventually, I think it
- 10:56Speaker 5: is going to open everything else up, all right. Jay
- 10:58Speaker 5: Love player of the game for us when we did
- 11:00Speaker 5: our postgame show. Ten tackles, one sack, one TfL, one
- 11:03Speaker 5: quarterback kick in a block, quarterback hit, excuse me, in
- 11:06Speaker 5: a blocked field goal. Jay Love is the dependable veteran
- 11:10Speaker 5: in the back. You ask him to do anything, he'll
- 11:12Speaker 5: do that. You send him on a blitz, he's good.
- 11:14Speaker 5: He stays over the top. A solid week one by
- 11:17Speaker 5: Jay Love.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Yeah, no question, he's mister do everything right. Like you said,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I mean, any stat line you have one sack, one TfL.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Want to keep hit one block field goal. You're doing
- 11:25Speaker 1: everything right. You're dependable. He's a smart dude, and you
- 11:28Speaker 1: love Fleen on number twenty. And then you got Ernest Jones.
- 11:31Speaker 1: We talked about Ernest Jones so much since last year,
- 11:34Speaker 1: how this defense changed when he came on this team.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It was night and day the Seahawks. We're having trouble
- 11:39Speaker 1: stopping anybody. He comes on to this team and completely
- 11:42Speaker 1: shifts what they're doing on defense. And he's just a leader.
- 11:44Speaker 1: We talked about the extensively on the postgame show last night.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Check out the Seahawks Rewind podcast. You don't hear any
- 11:49Speaker 1: of that conversation. But Ernest Jones, Man, he gets up
- 11:51Speaker 1: to the podium and you could just see how much
- 11:53Speaker 1: it means to him. Yeah, how much he's going through
- 11:55Speaker 1: a lot right now, obviously, but here's how much this
- 11:57Speaker 1: game means to him.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And here's here's the true of a good leader.
- 12:01Speaker 1: He comes out there, eight tackles, one TfL, two pass
- 12:03Speaker 1: event and one interception in which we will talk about
- 12:05Speaker 1: here very shortly. But what does he say at the podium.
- 12:08Speaker 1: I gotta be a better leader. I gotta play better.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I gotta do. And it's just like if one of
- 12:13Speaker 1: the best players on the team is talking like that
- 12:15Speaker 1: after playing a good game. Yeah, you know, that's what
- 12:18Speaker 1: you love to see from That's what leaders do.
- 12:20Speaker 5: They they step in front of the crowd and they
- 12:23Speaker 5: step in front of their team and they take the bullets,
- 12:25Speaker 5: you know, even if you're trying to shoot at your
- 12:27Speaker 5: guys behind him. He goes, Nah, it's me. I'm the
- 12:29Speaker 5: leader of this squad. Y'all talk to me, and y'all
- 12:32Speaker 5: do this. I'm ill loved that and he had one
- 12:34Speaker 5: of the best shirts we've seen during the postgame with
- 12:36Speaker 5: his pops all on there. So big ups to Ernest
- 12:38Speaker 5: Jones Man and DeMarcus Lawrence had himself a good debut
- 12:40Speaker 5: as well. Six tackles, two TFLs, one quarterback hit. He
- 12:43Speaker 5: also scooped up the was the block kick that Jay
- 12:46Speaker 5: Love had, He scooped it up. Cool scene number zero
- 12:48Speaker 5: out there. I went to watch the film on him.
- 12:50Speaker 5: People are knocking him for his age. He got some
- 12:52Speaker 5: juice left.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Man.
- 12:53Speaker 5: Don't sleep on DeMarcus Lawrence. I'm really intrigued with this
- 12:56Speaker 5: box right now. When it comes to the linebackers in
- 12:58Speaker 5: the defensive lineman because there's a mix of old and
- 13:01Speaker 5: young in that thing, and I think they're going to
- 13:03Speaker 5: continue to grow.
- 13:04Speaker 3: All of them, whether you know.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It might not showed up in the statute as much,
- 13:07Speaker 1: but I thought d Lodge played well. Glennon Williams, he
- 13:10Speaker 1: was great seven tackles, when one TfL when QB hit
- 13:12Speaker 1: Jay Reid Byron Murphy all like you said, as a unit,
- 13:15Speaker 1: I love how they're playing football, and there, like I said,
- 13:18Speaker 1: when you get after Rock Purty as much as they
- 13:20Speaker 1: did and bump gosh. I wish I had the stat
- 13:22Speaker 1: in front of me, but I saw something today ESPN
- 13:24Speaker 1: Stats and INFOI believe put this out there. Trent Williams
- 13:28Speaker 1: gave up the most pressure he has given up in
- 13:30Speaker 1: any game since he's been on the forty nine ers. Yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 1: on Sunday and now that didn't show up with a
- 13:35Speaker 1: four SAT game or whatever. But Trent, I think is
- 13:38Speaker 1: still despite his age, one of the best to play
- 13:40Speaker 1: that position in the National Football League. So I think
- 13:43Speaker 1: that shows what we got going on with the Seahawks
- 13:46Speaker 1: up front and a front seven.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Bump.
- 13:48Speaker 1: The receiver round up not a whole lot here outside
- 13:51Speaker 1: of JSN.
- 13:52Speaker 5: No receiver round up, but we talked about JSN nine
- 13:55Speaker 5: receptions for one twenty four and thirteen targets. You got
- 13:57Speaker 5: Cooper Cup two receptions for fifteen yards on three targets.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Arroyo had one for seven, ken Walker had three for four,
- 14:04Speaker 5: and AJ Barner had a reception.
- 14:06Speaker 4: No Yard's gang there.
- 14:07Speaker 5: Something tells me this is gonna be a bit thicker
- 14:11Speaker 5: next week against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But get start to
- 14:15Speaker 5: the season for JSM, establish yourself as the number one,
- 14:18Speaker 5: and then everyone else will fill in the gaps.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Yeah. No, I mean again the top the first line
- 14:22Speaker 3: on that. You gotta love it.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I love what Jason did and again we talked about
- 14:26Speaker 1: it again on the post game show. I feel like
- 14:28Speaker 1: Cooper Cup is gonna have more than three targets moving forward.
- 14:31Speaker 1: We know how good are you guarantee that Oroyo, Tory Horton,
- 14:35Speaker 1: Jake bobodrig Young weren't playing, so things will change there.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I am not worried about that at all, but we're
- 14:40Speaker 1: gonna shift it over. We talked about it a little
- 14:41Speaker 1: bit earlier, some of the plays of the game. There's
- 14:43Speaker 1: a lot of plays in the game, but we're gonna
- 14:45Speaker 1: look at some from the Seahawks point of view, and
- 14:47Speaker 1: just some really big plays to help them stay in
- 14:50Speaker 1: this football game and kind of a precursor of what
- 14:51Speaker 1: we hope to see moving forward throughout this season. The
- 14:54Speaker 1: first one we're gonna talk about is Ernest Jones picking
- 14:56Speaker 1: off Rock Party in the third quarter.
- 14:59Speaker 7: First and Town Seattle thirty nine for the Niners opening
- 15:02Speaker 7: drive of the second half. McCaffrey in the backfield playfake
- 15:06Speaker 7: to him, Party has time.
- 15:08Speaker 6: Throws in the middle of interception. Reaching up making the
- 15:12Speaker 6: interception is Jones and he gets hammered down at the thirty. Wow,
- 15:16Speaker 6: he looked like a receiver slash tight end. He skied
- 15:20Speaker 6: to make that interception and the Seahawks stop the Niner
- 15:25Speaker 6: drive the first turnover of the game.
- 15:28Speaker 5: All right, so what we see right here? The Hawks
- 15:30Speaker 5: come in a too high look too safety. Look, you
- 15:32Speaker 5: got Rock Party understanding, He motions, you check to the
- 15:35Speaker 5: right side. The ball is snapped and it looks like
- 15:38Speaker 5: they're playing a soft cover too right. Rick Willingness to
- 15:40Speaker 5: the right of Rock Party, and because there's no threat
- 15:42Speaker 5: to the flap, he starts to get some depth on
- 15:44Speaker 5: the other side. You get your other corner, and you
- 15:46Speaker 5: got a tight end in the flat, so you're a
- 15:48Speaker 5: bit tied into the line of scrimmers. But it's all
- 15:50Speaker 5: about Ernest Jones. He's looking at the eyes of rock Party.
- 15:53Speaker 5: He's trying to hit his receiver. I believe that's Jenning's
- 15:55Speaker 5: going across the middle there, trying to hit his receiver,
- 15:57Speaker 5: going across the middle. And it's kind of like he
- 15:59Speaker 5: baited a a bit right because Ernest Jones is working
- 16:02Speaker 5: for width, trying to get in between the numbers and
- 16:04Speaker 5: the hash. But as soon as brock Party lets it go,
- 16:06Speaker 5: he dis lowcates the football and gets after. But you
- 16:08Speaker 5: gotta give some love to that defensive line for creating
- 16:12Speaker 5: that pressure. You got a blitz I believe, I can't
- 16:15Speaker 5: I can't see who that was, but you get a
- 16:17Speaker 5: blitz up the B gap which gets brock Party on
- 16:20Speaker 5: his back foot. He tosses it up, Ernest Jones finds it.
- 16:23Speaker 5: That's how you connect the box with the back end.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Yeah no.
- 16:26Speaker 1: And what I love about this is they ran a
- 16:28Speaker 1: similar play earlier the forty nine ers did I think
- 16:31Speaker 1: it was a drive before and it got in the
- 16:33Speaker 1: back of a second just a little bit over Ernest Jones
- 16:35Speaker 1: and he makes an adjustment later in the football game
- 16:38Speaker 1: on this play gets more.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Depth and he climbed the ladder.
- 16:41Speaker 4: He sure did.
- 16:42Speaker 1: He that is you know, we know he's an athletic dude,
- 16:45Speaker 1: but like that is a receiver play. He kind of
- 16:46Speaker 1: the ladder, gets full estension, like you said, makes a play.
- 16:49Speaker 1: And again I talked about it in the preview pod.
- 16:52Speaker 1: How can you be the forty nine ers. It's taking
- 16:54Speaker 1: the football away from rock Party and Ernest Jones did
- 16:56Speaker 1: that and I love to see that from number thirteen.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Speak of minter Seve.
- 17:00Speaker 1: There's another one, our guy, Josh Jobes, who I think,
- 17:02Speaker 1: honestly in my book, might be the most improved player
- 17:04Speaker 1: on this football team.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Yea, he is.
- 17:06Speaker 1: He's playing some good football. He also joined the party
- 17:08Speaker 1: picking off Brock Party.
- 17:10Speaker 7: Perdy's gonna drop back seven, He's gonna look, He's gonna
- 17:12Speaker 7: let it fly.
- 17:13Speaker 6: Got defenders out there. Interception, the second interception of the
- 17:17Speaker 6: game for the Seahawks. Coming up with the play is
- 17:21Speaker 6: Josh job One of the Seahawks is down on the
- 17:25Speaker 6: far side near where the interception took place, but job
- 17:30Speaker 6: leaping high pitch off Party. That's the second pick off
- 17:34Speaker 6: of him today.
- 17:35Speaker 5: And what's tough about this is Joe is in man coverage,
- 17:39Speaker 5: and we know what the Niners like to do dragon
- 17:41Speaker 5: players across the field as shallows. The intermedia is the
- 17:44Speaker 5: deep angles, and he's running with his receiver right now.
- 17:47Speaker 5: I believe that's Piersol and he's running out a forty
- 17:49Speaker 5: five degree angle about twenty twenty five yards down the field,
- 17:54Speaker 5: and he's trailing right on the hill bright, right where
- 17:56Speaker 5: you need to be when you in situations like this.
- 17:58Speaker 5: This is all just want to all right. He's on
- 18:00Speaker 5: his hip, the ball is thrown, he goes up and
- 18:03Speaker 5: gets it. But once again, you gotta look at what's
- 18:05Speaker 5: going on with that defensive line and in the box
- 18:08Speaker 5: rock Party has a cool little pocket. But then you
- 18:10Speaker 5: start to get pressure from his left side. He steps
- 18:13Speaker 5: up a little bit and just lets one go and
- 18:15Speaker 5: I don't know what he's looking at. There's about three
- 18:17Speaker 5: or four seahawks over there, and if Joe didn't get it,
- 18:20Speaker 5: someone else is gonna grab that thing.
- 18:21Speaker 4: But you gotta go high.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Pointed and make a play because we know that Pearsal
- 18:24Speaker 5: is more than capable of doing that.
- 18:26Speaker 4: This is just manned up. I'm on your hip, throw
- 18:29Speaker 4: it up, I'm gonna get it.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Yeah, A couple things off about this play. You talked
- 18:32Speaker 1: about his man coverage. He's playing outside leverage and sometimes
- 18:35Speaker 1: with a fastc guy like that, if you can't get
- 18:37Speaker 1: any hands on, he's just gonna run away from you.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:39Speaker 1: He fights back, gets the leverage in the right butt
- 18:41Speaker 1: and essentially runs the route for him and goes up
- 18:43Speaker 1: at the highest point. And you mentioned where Perry's throwing
- 18:45Speaker 1: the ball. I mean Kobe Bryanton the photo Reek wounds
- 18:48Speaker 1: in the photo. Witherspoon does a great job. His guy
- 18:52Speaker 1: is blocking, so he kind of sinks, get some leverage,
- 18:54Speaker 1: make that a tougher throw, and then Josh Job just
- 18:56Speaker 1: high points it and runs the round at a receiver.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And I love what we're gonnay him, and I won't
- 19:00Speaker 1: be surprised if to see a lot of Josh Joe
- 19:02Speaker 1: just because again, when he's on the field, he's making
- 19:04Speaker 1: plays and I love what we're seeing from that secondary. Again,
- 19:06Speaker 1: it's it's just it's too bad that some of these
- 19:09Speaker 1: plays didn't result and the win for the Seahawks. And
- 19:11Speaker 1: last one we'll go to we'll flip it over the
- 19:13Speaker 1: offensive side. This was the last drive the Seahawks drove
- 19:16Speaker 1: down the field to make this a competitive game. At
- 19:18Speaker 1: the end, Sean Donald finds a JSN for a forty
- 19:20Speaker 1: yard game.
- 19:21Speaker 7: Hooper Cup is slotted on the right side. Donald has
- 19:25Speaker 7: time going to throw got.
- 19:26Speaker 6: Jas down their side, bake the catch inside the twenty
- 19:30Speaker 6: run out of bounds. Dude, Ronaldo Green went a cornerback
- 19:36Speaker 6: on cover. He couldn't keep up. Jason Pinnock. The safety
- 19:40Speaker 6: came over. He couldn't make the play. A forty yarder
- 19:44Speaker 6: and a perfect pass from Sam Donald to JSN on
- 19:48Speaker 6: the New York sidelines.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Yeah, this was nice.
- 19:51Speaker 5: We talked about Josh Joe manning up and being at
- 19:53Speaker 5: the right place and staying on the hip and going
- 19:55Speaker 5: to get the football.
- 19:56Speaker 4: You got man right here too.
- 19:57Speaker 5: The forty nine ers did a good job manning up
- 19:59Speaker 5: the receivers offense yesterday.
- 20:01Speaker 4: And this is just Jason winning it all.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Starts with his release all right, gets to the outside,
- 20:06Speaker 5: slap his hands down, clean him up real quick, squeezes
- 20:10Speaker 5: inside just a little bit, leaves some space on the
- 20:12Speaker 5: sideline for your quarterback, and he just drops a dime.
- 20:15Speaker 5: I mean, I think Jason's catch is great, but the
- 20:17Speaker 5: throw is even better, in my opinion, you put it
- 20:19Speaker 5: in a place on your receiver can get it outside shoulder,
- 20:22Speaker 5: in between the safety and their corner. Right when you
- 20:24Speaker 5: needed a big play, you go to number eleven. He's
- 20:28Speaker 5: there for you. And then the offensive line just enough.
- 20:31Speaker 5: I love watching Sundale here. He has a one tech
- 20:35Speaker 5: to the right of him. The one take crosses his face.
- 20:38Speaker 5: He passes him off to his guy and then gets
- 20:40Speaker 5: right back because there's a linebacker trying to blist the
- 20:43Speaker 5: a gap or excuse me, it was a defenent a
- 20:44Speaker 5: lignement on a stunt, and he picks him up.
- 20:48Speaker 4: It happens so quickly.
- 20:49Speaker 5: People don't appreciate how fast Sundale had to sort that out.
- 20:53Speaker 5: You pass them off, you see color coming from the
- 20:55Speaker 5: right side. Boom, you hit him there. You allow Sam
- 20:57Speaker 5: Donald to make this throw.
- 20:59Speaker 1: No, I was just about to say his acting thing
- 21:01Speaker 1: about Sundale because you have Chara Day coming across.
- 21:04Speaker 3: He's stepping up a protection. He goes right one way
- 21:06Speaker 3: in Sundale.
- 21:06Speaker 1: That is one of the most athletic plays you'll see
- 21:08Speaker 1: from a center that that's great on your point, and
- 21:10Speaker 1: then going back to the throw from Darnold, if he
- 21:13Speaker 1: underthrows it, the corner makes a play, the overthrows of
- 21:16Speaker 1: the safety gets there.
- 21:16Speaker 3: It's a perfect throw, perfect.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Pitch and catch, and as they say, any given Sunday,
- 21:22Speaker 1: it's a game benches by.
- 21:23Speaker 3: Game advent is.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Unfortunately, the Seahawks were not able to get it done.
- 21:26Speaker 1: They made a lot of plays. There's a lot to
- 21:29Speaker 1: look forward to obviously this season. But for the Seahawks
- 21:32Speaker 1: on Sunday, the clock just ran out.
- 21:37Speaker 7: They're just gonna left the clock wind down, not even
- 21:39Speaker 7: gonna bother to taking that last time out.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I said it to start Sunday felt like a playoff
- 21:44Speaker 1: game at Lumenfield, heavyweight battle between these two teams that
- 21:48Speaker 1: they had often during the legion of boom Era, And
- 21:51Speaker 1: for me, I'll leave it on this the gap between
- 21:53Speaker 1: the two teams is completely close. I know the Seahawks
- 21:56Speaker 1: won the last matchup of Santa Clair, but looking over
- 21:59Speaker 1: the last three years, you know the forty nine ers
- 22:01Speaker 1: have a lot of dogs and they run in a
- 22:02Speaker 1: different position. When you watch that game on Sunday, the
- 22:05Speaker 1: Seahawks were the better team in my opinion. That didn't
- 22:08Speaker 1: happen on the scoreboard, but you saw the town gap
- 22:10Speaker 1: and you go okay, No, these two teams are evenly matched.
- 22:13Speaker 1: It's gonna be a dogfight all year in the NFC West.
- 22:15Speaker 5: Yeah, and they ran twenty two more plays in the Seahawks.
- 22:18Speaker 5: You do that, you have more opportunities, you have the football,
- 22:21Speaker 5: you dominated the time of possession. But on the positive side,
- 22:24Speaker 5: the Seahawks defense did a great job. Man got after
- 22:27Speaker 5: the quarterback. Only one sack, but you have some pressures,
- 22:31Speaker 5: turned the football over twice. Ernest Jones making plays, Josh
- 22:34Speaker 5: Joe making plays in the secondary.
- 22:36Speaker 4: I'm okay with where this defense is at.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yeah, this is tipped Iceberg. I think this defense only
- 22:40Speaker 3: gets better.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And that's a scary thing because they played pretty darn
- 22:44Speaker 1: good on Sunday, So I'm excited for that.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Jayson, he bawled out, he did a good job.
- 22:48Speaker 1: We mentioned offensive line only allowing one sack, and the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Seahawks are right there.
- 22:52Speaker 3: They're gonna get to work.
- 22:53Speaker 1: This week, obviously getting ready to prepare for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 22:57Speaker 3: We'll get you ready for that. On Thursday.
- 22:59Speaker 1: As a Yos get ready to see a former friend
- 23:02Speaker 1: in decayln Zacarius metcalf DK over there on different uniforms,
- 23:06Speaker 1: so that'll be fun to see him. The Seahawks getting
- 23:08Speaker 1: ready to travel across the country. Take on those Steelers.
- 23:10Speaker 1: We'll get you ready on Thursday. Make sure she watches
- 23:12Speaker 1: on YouTube under the Seahawks Press Fast Channel. A lot
- 23:14Speaker 1: of great content for you there as well, Insiders with
- 23:16Speaker 1: Jen and John, Seahawks Stories, fifty season Edition, The Huddle,
- 23:19Speaker 1: Hawks Live, and Seahawks Rewind.
- 23:21Speaker 3: You can catch Michael.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Bumpus throughout the week on Seattle Sports from ten am
- 23:24Speaker 1: to two pm on The Bump and Stacey Show, and
- 23:26Speaker 1: on The Huddle, on Hawks Live and of course the
- 23:28Speaker 1: pregame show Sunday. Seahawks do not get it done. They
- 23:31Speaker 1: follow nine er seventeen thirteen. He's Michael Bumpus on NASA Chobe.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Until next time, this has been Hawk Talk
