- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The ninth Sunday after Pentecost, July 26 in the year of our Lord 2026.
- 0:21This day's liturgy puts before us in the epistle and gospel the terrible punishments incurred by the people of Israel on account of their morals and irreligion. 23,000 Hebrews perished in one day on account of their lust. Several were killed by serpents for having tempted God by complaining that they had no other food but manna.
- 0:50Many were killed by the destroying angel on account of their murmuring. And over a million Jews perished when Jerusalem was destroyed for having rejected the Messiah. They were thrown out of the kingdom of God as the sellers were driven from the temple which is its figure for having transformed the house of prayer into a den of thieves. The Gentiles called in their stead must therefore be faithful to their vocation and take care not to fall in their turn. Let them obey therefore with holy joy the commandments of the Lord.
- 1:37Let them worthily attend in the temple the Eucharistic mysteries in which the work of our redemption is daily enacted and eat the flesh of Jesus which is the true manna of our souls, then will God always come to their help. He will open the ears of His mercy to their prayers and will not allow them to be tempted beyond their strength. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. The Introit.
- 2:21Behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. Turn back the evils upon mine enemies and cut them off in thy truth. O Lord, my protector, save me, O God, by thy name and deliver me in thy strength. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:00Behold, God is my helper, and the Lord is the protector of my soul. Turn back the evils upon mine enemies and cut them off in thy truth, O Lord, my protector. The Collect, let us pray. Let thy merciful ears, O Lord, be open to the prayers of thy suppliant people and that thou mayest grant their desire to those that seek, make them ask such things as please thee, through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:55A commemoration of Saint Anne. O God, who didst vouch safe to bestow upon blessed Anne such grace that she was found worthy to become the mother of her who brought forth thine only begotten son. Mercifully grant that we who celebrate her festival may be helped by her intercession with you through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with you in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. Lesson from the first letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians Brethren, we were not to set our hearts as some of them set their hearts on forbidden things.
- 4:56You were not to turn idolatrous as some of them did. So we read, the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to take their pleasure. We were not to commit fornication as some of them committed fornication when 23,000 of them were killed in one day. We were not to try the patience of Christ as some of them tried it, the men who were slain by the serpents. Nor were you to complain as some of them complained till the destroying angels slew them.
- 5:41When all this happened to them it was a symbol. The record of it was written as a warning to us in whom history has reached its fulfillment. And it means that he who thinks he stands firmly should beware of a fall. I pray that no temptation may come upon you that is beyond man's strength. Not that God will play you false.
- 6:10He will not allow you to be tempted beyond your powers. Within the temptation itself, he will ordain the issue of it and enable you to hold your own. The gradual. O Lord, our Lord, how admirable is thy name in the whole earth, for thy magnificence is elevated above the heavens. Alleluia, alleluia.
- 6:44Deliver me from mine enemies, O God, and defend me from them that rise up against me. Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time as Jesus drew near and caught sight of the city, he wept over it and said, if thou too couldst understand above all in this day that is granted thee the ways that can bring thee peace, as it is, they are hidden from thy sight. The days will come upon thee when thy enemies will fence thee round about, and encircle thee, and press thee hard on every side, and bring down and ruin both thee and thy children that are in thee, not leaving one stone of thee upon another, and all because thou didst not recognize the time of my visiting thee.
- 7:51Then he went into the temple and began driving out those who sold and bought there. It is written, he told them, my house is a house of prayer, and you have made it into a den of thieves. And he taught in the temple daily. The offertory. How plain are the duties which the Lord enjoins, the treasure of a man's heart, and his awards sweeter than the honey dripping from its comb.
- 8:31By these I thy servant live. The secret. Grant to us we beseech thee, O Lord, that we may worthily frequent these mysteries. For as often as the memorial of this victim is celebrated, the work of our redemption is wrought through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 9:10A commemoration of Saint Anne. Graciously have regard on this sacrifice we beseech Thee, O Lord, that through the intercession of Blessed Anne, who was mother of her who brought forth Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, it may profit us unto both devotion and salvation. Through the same Jesus Christ, thy Son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The Preface of the Most Holy Trinity Just it is and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, who together with thine only begotten son and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord, not in the oneness of a single person, but in the trinity of one substance.
- 10:27For what we believe by thy revelation of thy glory, the same do we believe of thy son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and eternal Godhead distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored In praise of which the angels and archangels, the cherubim also and Seraphim day by day exalt without end with one voice saying, holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 11:23Hosanna in the highest. The communion. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives continually in me, and I in him, says the Lord. The post communion. Let us pray.
- 11:49May the communion of thy sacrament we beseech thee, O Lord, bring us cleansing and grant us unity through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A commemoration of Saint Anne. We who have been nourished by these heavenly sacraments beseech thee, O Lord our God, that through the intercession of blessed Anne, whom thou didst will to be the mother of her who brought forth thy son, we may be worthy to attain eternal salvation through the same Jesus Christ, thy son, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 12:56In the name of the father, and of the son, and of the holy ghost. Amen. Thanks be to God. Saint Anne, pray for us.
