Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Do the Twins have any playoff shot now? This weekend is the last stand
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: There's tension in the ranks here on Twin Cities territory.
- 0:05Speaker 1: We are all 4.3 percenters, but one of us might
- 0:08Speaker 1: be turning in his badge today. We'll get to that
- 0:11Speaker 1: in just a minute. The Twins have lost two out
- 0:13Speaker 1: of three to the Tigers this week. They have the
- 0:14Speaker 1: day off today. It's Thursday, September 10th. Cleveland on deck
- 0:18Speaker 1: this weekend. We are going to be back tomorrow for
- 0:21Speaker 1: another show, and I want to get this out of
- 0:22Speaker 1: the way. You can see it on the bottom right there.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We are having a mailbag show tomorrow, so please, if
- 0:26Speaker 1: you have any questions, leave them for us. down in
- 0:28Speaker 1: the comments, questions about this season, the offseason, whatever's coming
- 0:31Speaker 1: next for this team. We will get to those on
- 0:34Speaker 1: tomorrow's show. But today is all about another frustrating series
- 0:38Speaker 1: for the Twins. They dropped two out of three in Detroit,
- 0:41Speaker 1: back to eight games under. 500 at 69-77. Still four
- 0:45Speaker 1: and a half out in the wild card somehow.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Still pretty good.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Did not lose any ground, but that is becoming a
- 0:51Speaker 1: problem in and of itself because obviously precious few games
- 0:54Speaker 1: left on the schedule. Guys, it was very similar to
- 0:58Speaker 1: the Chicago series. The Twins lost the opener, came back,
- 1:01Speaker 1: won the middle game, and then with a chance to
- 1:03Speaker 1: win that rubber match, which was something they did so
- 1:05Speaker 1: well towards the end of the first half when they
- 1:07Speaker 1: were crawling their way out of this eight-game under. 500 hole,
- 1:12Speaker 1: just did not have much of a fight at all
- 1:14Speaker 1: in that rain-delayed finale on Wednesday. I keep wanting to
- 1:19Speaker 1: write at the bottom of the screen that it's officially done,
- 1:24Speaker 1: but again, they didn't lose ground in the wild-card race.
- 1:26Speaker 1: There's still 16 games left on the schedule. We'll get
- 1:28Speaker 1: to that in a minute. But one thing that jumped
- 1:30Speaker 1: out to me, Tyler, before Monday's game, Audra Martin had
- 1:36Speaker 1: a piece interviewing some of the players before the game started.
- 1:39Speaker 1: And the subject was Joe Ryan's return, which we'll also
- 1:41Speaker 1: talk about later today. But when talking to Trevor Larnik,
- 1:47Speaker 1: she asked him what kind of a boost that was
- 1:50Speaker 1: to the team. And I wrote down what he said.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Larnik replied, He's an ultimate boost. I think any boost
- 1:56Speaker 1: we can get at the end of the year, I
- 1:57Speaker 1: think guys are running on fumes, and to have him
- 1:59Speaker 1: back on the staff and give us, like I said,
- 2:01Speaker 1: a boost, I think that's huge. Perhaps I'm reading too
- 2:05Speaker 1: much into the running on fumes part, and being a
- 2:10Speaker 1: podcast host now for 70-some episodes, I certainly understand that
- 2:14Speaker 1: sometimes when a microphone's in front of you and you're
- 2:17Speaker 1: asked to speak, you don't always get your point across.
- 2:19Speaker 1: But it jumped out to me because, Tyler, it sure
- 2:21Speaker 1: looks like that's exactly what this team has been doing
- 2:24Speaker 1: for a month. They just, the energy seems gone. They
- 2:26Speaker 1: seem tired and the results are matching it up. And like,
- 2:31Speaker 1: I don't think people love to hear that baseball players
- 2:34Speaker 1: get tired and hurt too, compared to other sports. Dan
- 2:38Speaker 1: famously won K fans preposterous statement tournament by suggesting it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: hard to stand for nine innings, but it can be
- 2:45Speaker 1: a real thing this time of year. Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 3: It's like you say, that reminds me of the, there's
- 2:50Speaker 3: a coach for the twins for a long time and he,
- 2:52Speaker 3: He said the best way to get ready for spring
- 2:54Speaker 3: training every year is go stand in a parking lot
- 2:56Speaker 3: for a couple hours with cleats on and then just
- 2:59Speaker 3: break off in a sprint every couple minutes. And now
- 3:02Speaker 3: do that for 162 games. Trevor, he's one of my
- 3:08Speaker 3: favorites that's still on the team. He's an honest guy.
- 3:11Speaker 2: He works hard. He's a grinder.
- 3:13Speaker 3: He's one of the cage rat. He's always working to
- 3:15Speaker 3: get better, things like that. And hearing him say that, yeah,
- 3:19Speaker 3: it's disheartening, I guess you could say. But it's the truth.
- 3:23Speaker 3: You know, guys in that locker room, you know, there's
- 3:24Speaker 3: an injury report that comes out and we hear about,
- 3:28Speaker 3: you know, the rehabs and things like that. But there's
- 3:30Speaker 3: guys that are showing up to the field every day at,
- 3:32Speaker 3: you know, 1.30, 2 o'clock, and they go straight to
- 3:35Speaker 3: that training room.
- 3:36Speaker 2: They're getting lasers. They're getting needles. They're getting whatever they.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Can to feel 100% for when the first pitch is thrown.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And it's a grind.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Even for the guy who isn't playing every day, who's
- 3:49Speaker 3: on the bench, like, little things just start to creep
- 3:51Speaker 3: up on you during the season. And it's tough. And
- 3:55Speaker 3: we've talked about it like heading into September, being in
- 3:58Speaker 3: the mix, things like that. You know, Shelty mentioned, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 3: it's time to kind of for the sprint.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And we're there.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And we talked about Joe coming back, being a bit
- 4:07Speaker 3: of a boost potentially. And, you know, he looked to
- 4:10Speaker 3: be kind of riding the ship and, you know, the
- 4:12Speaker 3: velo ticked up, things like that. But this time of year,
- 4:15Speaker 3: it literally is do whatever you can to be ready
- 4:19Speaker 3: for your outing or your at-bats or whatever it may be.
- 4:22Speaker 3: And it's tough because in these moments, there's no more
- 4:27Speaker 3: resources coming from behind you now.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Everybody who's there is there. You've got injuries.
- 4:33Speaker 3: You've got Martin who he could come back potentially.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We don't know.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Byron, it doesn't sound great, the things that have come
- 4:39Speaker 3: out about him. And so the team right now is
- 4:42Speaker 3: the team. And Joe coming back is that little boost.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But somehow, someway, I keep alluding to Walker Jenkins getting
- 4:51Speaker 3: hot would be the greatest thing ever because he's got
- 4:54Speaker 3: that adrenaline, that fresh breath of air coming to the
- 4:57Speaker 3: big leagues.
- 4:58Speaker 2: He's excited to be there. He's probably not having the
- 5:01Speaker 2: best time right now.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Obviously, it's been a bit of a struggle, but it is.
- 5:05Speaker 3: It's the end of the season. It's why you work
- 5:07Speaker 3: out all offseason. You bust your tail to be ready
- 5:10Speaker 3: for this long journey of a season, and it's here.
- 5:14Speaker 2: You've got three weeks left or so.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You know, it's how many games, you know, 16 or
- 5:20Speaker 3: 17 games.
- 5:21Speaker 2: It's literally it's time to empty the tank, whatever you have.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And guys are worn out. It's no more. It's not
- 5:27Speaker 2: how much caffeine you can take or anything else.
- 5:29Speaker 3: It's just go play. And it's tough. You lose that,
- 5:33Speaker 3: especially rain delay yesterday. There's nothing worse than showing up
- 5:36Speaker 3: for a day game. You take a 40-minute bus ride
- 5:39Speaker 3: to the stadium in Detroit because we stay out in Birmingham.
- 5:42Speaker 3: You get there, and then you sit, and there's nowhere
- 5:44Speaker 3: to go hang out anymore with all the media and stuff.
- 5:48Speaker 3: It's a tough place to ride out of weather delay
- 5:52Speaker 3: and then to lose like that. It's a gut punch,
- 5:55Speaker 3: but it's baseball, man. You're back home off day to day.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Find a way to recharge and get ready for tomorrow.
- 6:03Speaker 1: The obvious question after we've been talking now for over
- 6:07Speaker 1: a week, now or never, Twins got a win. They
- 6:11Speaker 1: once again did not win. it's over now, right? And like,
- 6:15Speaker 1: it's such a confusing and crowded wildcard picture. And Tyler,
- 6:20Speaker 1: I think you were even trying to look for someone
- 6:22Speaker 1: to help you make sense of it and couldn't find it.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But the scenario is, let's get it on the screen here.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Four and a half games back. Oh, see, there's always
- 6:38Speaker 1: some complications. As I find this I assure you they
- 6:42Speaker 1: are four and a half games back in the wild card.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Cleveland still leads. And there we are. Three teams in between,
- 6:50Speaker 1: Blue Jays, Rangers, and Orioles. I think it's still in play.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Dan thinks I'm crazy.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Isn't that right, Dan? Yeah, the scenario is everyone boards
- 7:02Speaker 4: that flight to Cancun September 28th. A lot of trips
- 7:06Speaker 4: to Cancun. No, no. We're talking about a sprint, and
- 7:11Speaker 4: they're limping, and it's been painful.
- 7:15Speaker 2: They have been.
- 7:16Speaker 4: You're missing Byron Buxton, and it's very clear how much
- 7:20Speaker 4: of a spark he offers. The offense has just gone.
- 7:26Speaker 4: You look around, and you see Cody Clemens hitting home runs.
- 7:30Speaker 4: They're key. He had a couple nice moments in Detroit,
- 7:35Speaker 4: and that's got to be great for him because That's
- 7:37Speaker 4: the team that drafted him. That's the team that really
- 7:39Speaker 4: didn't give him a chance, and here he is five
- 7:42Speaker 4: years later going back and hitting game-winning home runs on
- 7:46Speaker 4: Tuesday night there. But there's too far and too– there's
- 7:52Speaker 4: just not enough. The words are escaping me right now.
- 7:56Speaker 4: There's just not enough.
- 7:59Speaker 2: You're so angry.
- 8:01Speaker 4: No, it's not angry. It's tired. I, too, am tired.
- 8:05Speaker 1: You're running on fumes.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Yeah. I'm absolutely running on fumes. Look, you just look
- 8:10Speaker 4: around in the lineup, and they can't get anything going consistently.
- 8:15Speaker 4: They looked like they had that little hot streak going.
- 8:17Speaker 4: They win the last game against the White Sox at
- 8:19Speaker 4: home on Sunday last week. They blow out Detroit the
- 8:23Speaker 4: first two in a row, and you're like, oh, maybe
- 8:25Speaker 4: this is it. This is the start of a run.
- 8:27Speaker 4: And since then, they are 2-5. And it's just been
- 8:30Speaker 4: a disappointing return. When you look at the The Sunday
- 8:34Speaker 4: night loss against the White Sox. You have a chance
- 8:37Speaker 4: to win this series against the White Sox, and you
- 8:39Speaker 4: just have a dud of a game losing 10-1. A
- 8:42Speaker 4: game you were in, sort of, and then the White
- 8:45Speaker 4: Sox bullpen game, where bullpen just shredded your offense and
- 8:49Speaker 4: struck you out 15 times and you had four hits.
- 8:51Speaker 4: And then you come back, and you're right, hour and
- 8:54Speaker 4: 40 minute delay sucks. That's just, there's really nothing to do,
- 8:58Speaker 4: especially when you get up early to get out. And
- 9:02Speaker 4: you just sit around and wait. I don't like those scenarios,
- 9:07Speaker 4: no matter what team you are. But they just need more,
- 9:11Speaker 4: and they are not finding it. And it's like, you
- 9:14Speaker 4: look at the Royce Lewis's, and we brought up Walker Jenkins,
- 9:17Speaker 4: and Walker Jenkins had the big hit to sort of
- 9:21Speaker 4: get them back in the game on Monday, but then
- 9:24Speaker 4: they couldn't. They came up short. But you look everywhere.
- 9:28Speaker 4: It's not happening. Trevor Larnik's still struggling. Uh, Brooks Lee's
- 9:32Speaker 4: doing some like Brooks Lee defensively has been great, but
- 9:35Speaker 4: he's inconsistent at the plate right now. Like everywhere you look,
- 9:38Speaker 4: everywhere you look, it's this, I'm just saying names, but
- 9:41Speaker 4: I mean, with the exception of like Cody Clemens and maybe, uh,
- 9:47Speaker 4: Josh Bell's had a few good moments here and there,
- 9:49Speaker 4: but I mean, like it's just all sporadic and they
- 9:52Speaker 4: need consistent. They need it now. And yeah, they can,
- 9:55Speaker 4: they can definitely take three from Cleveland. They've owned Cleveland
- 9:58Speaker 4: for most of the year, but also, uh, Byron Buxton
- 10:01Speaker 4: was largely playing a lot of the games. I just
- 10:03Speaker 4: feel like his spark is very much missing from this group.
- 10:07Speaker 4: And it's something that it's very unfortunate the way his
- 10:11Speaker 4: hip has bugged him since May, because he was having a,
- 10:16Speaker 4: probably on pace for the best season of his career.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Last year was the best season of his career. Last
- 10:21Speaker 4: year was amazing. Down the stretch, he was incredible. Down
- 10:25Speaker 4: the stretch, he was hitting home runs consistently. It was
- 10:29Speaker 4: the only thing the Twins had going for them on
- 10:30Speaker 4: the way to 92 losses. His spark, I think, is missing.
- 10:35Speaker 4: It's unfortunate for this team because when you are limping
- 10:40Speaker 4: as they are, any little thing like that can get
- 10:42Speaker 4: you going. That's a big thing that's just been missing
- 10:45Speaker 4: consistently since you know the end of june i mean
- 10:49Speaker 4: his last home run was june 22nd and that has
- 10:52Speaker 4: uh never felt more uh evident than lately um i
- 10:57Speaker 4: mean there were there were good moments in this series
- 10:58Speaker 4: joe ryan um even though it was a little wild
- 11:01Speaker 4: early on actually really wild early on look good and
- 11:04Speaker 4: we'll talk more about him but like you need a
- 11:08Speaker 4: lot of things to go right at this time of
- 11:10Speaker 4: year like how i just don't know how this team
- 11:13Speaker 4: with the way things are going can roll off 10
- 11:15Speaker 4: in a row which basically they're at the point of
- 11:18Speaker 4: right now. I mean, they have to go like 13-3
- 11:20Speaker 4: to make the playoffs, essentially, or maybe 12-4. But they
- 11:24Speaker 4: have to do something crazy like that, and I just
- 11:26Speaker 4: don't think this team is capable of that.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a reason why I disagree
- 11:33Speaker 1: right after this. If you like what you hear, please

- 11:46Speaker 5: Kratz football season is back and Fabletics knows all about it.
- 11:51Speaker 5: They just paired with the number one wide receiver in
- 11:54Speaker 5: the NFL, Jamar Chase, on a new collection.
- 11:57Speaker 6: He's going to catch some footballs. You're going to catch
- 12:00Speaker 6: some deals when you go to Fabletics because this is
- 12:03Speaker 6: all affordable stuff, but the quality is through the roof. Comfortability,
- 12:07Speaker 6: like it is ridiculous. Go for it.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it's about feeling good all day and you need
- 12:12Speaker 5: to feel more comfortable in your athletic clothing since you're
- 12:15Speaker 5: wearing it all day. It's not just at the gym
- 12:17Speaker 5: anymore and Fabletics is spot on with that theory. Shop

- 12:54Speaker 1: on YouTube, you can leave us a question right in
- 12:56Speaker 1: the comments. If you're listening, you can find us on
- 12:58Speaker 1: YouTube or on X at Dan Hayes MLB. We'll send
- 13:02Speaker 1: them all to Dan. Let's have everybody ask Dan questions.
- 13:05Speaker 1: He'll love that. All right. Dan says it's over. The
- 13:10Speaker 1: playoff odds basically say it's over 1% now. They have
- 13:14Speaker 1: almost no chance.
- 13:15Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 13:15Speaker 4: They're the 2.4 percenters.
- 13:17Speaker 1: They're the 2.4. Their playoff chances have dropped below the
- 13:21Speaker 1: amount of people who believe in them, so that's not
- 13:23Speaker 1: a great sign. I'm going to go back to my
- 13:25Speaker 1: visual aid here with the wildcard standings. I'm going to
- 13:30Speaker 1: caveat over the whole thing. I realize it's extremely unlikely. However...
- 13:37Speaker 1: When you look at these wildcard standings and you look
- 13:39Speaker 1: at what's happening this weekend, the Twins are playing the Guardians, obviously.
- 13:44Speaker 1: They're four back in the loss column there. The Blue
- 13:47Speaker 1: Jays and the Orioles are playing, so some losses are
- 13:50Speaker 1: going to get handed out there. Texas is at Seattle
- 13:53Speaker 1: this afternoon to finish a series with the Mariners and
- 13:55Speaker 1: then goes to Arizona to play the Diamondbacks, who are
- 13:58Speaker 1: playing well and are in the NL wildcard race, which
- 14:02Speaker 1: is a much better wildcard race than this one. It
- 14:06Speaker 1: is entirely possible... that the Orioles take two of three
- 14:09Speaker 1: from Toronto, that Texas loses two of those four games
- 14:12Speaker 1: this weekend, and that all three of those teams are
- 14:14Speaker 1: sitting on 76 losses. So if, if the Twins could
- 14:19Speaker 1: sweep Cleveland, they would be one game back in the
- 14:22Speaker 1: loss column of all three of those teams with 13
- 14:25Speaker 1: to go. I realize it's a big if, and it's
- 14:29Speaker 1: almost impossible right now to imagine this team sweeping anybody
- 14:33Speaker 1: But it was kind of hard to imagine that a
- 14:34Speaker 1: few weeks ago when they swept the Braves, a much
- 14:36Speaker 1: better team out of nowhere at home too. So yes,
- 14:40Speaker 1: the spark has to come from somewhere. I don't know
- 14:43Speaker 1: that it will. Walker Jenkins hasn't provided it yet. Royce
- 14:46Speaker 1: Lewis has gone way back in the opposite direction. Basically
- 14:49Speaker 1: the bottom third of their lineup has been just a
- 14:51Speaker 1: dead spot for the last month. Pitching has been hit
- 14:55Speaker 1: or miss. Every reason to think it's not going to
- 14:58Speaker 1: happen and it may not. But if somehow they can,
- 15:01Speaker 1: even if they can win this series, Tyler, yeah, you
- 15:04Speaker 1: got the Yankees after that. That's scary. Aaron Judge is back.
- 15:07Speaker 1: But then those final 10 games are winnable. And just
- 15:10Speaker 1: because of the way everyone else is playing like crap.
- 15:13Speaker 1: By the way, Cleveland, they had a seven game winning
- 15:17Speaker 1: streak over San Francisco, Colorado, and the Angels, three of
- 15:22Speaker 1: the worst teams in baseball. But outside of that, they've
- 15:24Speaker 1: been 16 and 27 since the All-Star break. So like,
- 15:28Speaker 1: Toronto's playing pretty well or has been, but other than that,
- 15:31Speaker 1: all these teams are sort of a crapshoot. There's a
- 15:33Speaker 1: lot of playing against each other. Twins still have Texas
- 15:36Speaker 1: to end the season. It really does have to start
- 15:39Speaker 1: right now, Tyler, but they're not cooked just yet.
- 15:43Speaker 3: No, and that's the best part, I guess you could say,
- 15:46Speaker 3: however you want to look at it. It's a realistic
- 15:50Speaker 3: chance still.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I know 1%, you're 2.4%.
- 15:51Speaker 3: Anyone could have a bad week. And sometimes a blind
- 15:58Speaker 3: squirrel finds a nut. You know, it's the twins like
- 16:00Speaker 3: we've talked about a lot. They've they've never gone on
- 16:03Speaker 3: that hot streak. Now, I'm not saying it's going to happen,
- 16:06Speaker 3: but it is very realistic. All the scenarios you just said,
- 16:10Speaker 3: like if they just have a little more than just
- 16:13Speaker 3: a pulse for the next week and then you go
- 16:17Speaker 3: into that last week, say say we get to two
- 16:20Speaker 3: games out with that last week ahead of us. The
- 16:23Speaker 3: rest of the teams are matching up against teams that
- 16:25Speaker 3: are going to be just as good or if not better.
- 16:27Speaker 3: The American League has just been so weirdly just not
- 16:31Speaker 3: good other than the handful of teams.
- 16:34Speaker 2: We're not getting our hopes up.
- 16:36Speaker 3: There is still a realistic chance.
- 16:37Speaker 4: In my mind.
- 16:38Speaker 3: And as a player, those guys are thinking that. They
- 16:41Speaker 3: aren't looking at it going, oh, okay, season's over, blah, blah, blah. It's, hey, guys,
- 16:47Speaker 3: we legitimately can get into this wild card very easily.
- 16:50Speaker 2: And we talked about it.
- 16:53Speaker 3: You know, before the route, one side is going to
- 16:57Speaker 3: eliminate all the good teams are going to be playing
- 16:59Speaker 3: each other. And so it's it's a crapshoot of who's
- 17:02Speaker 3: actually going to end up getting in. But but it's
- 17:04Speaker 3: a real chance in my mind from the players perspective.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Like if I just we eke out a couple games,
- 17:10Speaker 3: you know, you got to take care of Cleveland. That's
- 17:12Speaker 3: going to be the big one. Like you got to win.
- 17:14Speaker 3: You have to win at least two of those games.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Like sweeping them would be incredible. You know, but all
- 17:19Speaker 3: the other teams are beating up on each other. So
- 17:21Speaker 3: they're just kind of going to go bounce it back
- 17:22Speaker 3: and forth, but you can jump your big opponent at
- 17:26Speaker 3: this point in Cleveland and get them off of that spot. It's,
- 17:30Speaker 3: it's one, you know, Joe, Joe's going to have a
- 17:32Speaker 3: longer leash this week. He's going to get to go
- 17:34Speaker 3: a little more innings. Like it's, you know, we saw
- 17:37Speaker 3: the bullpen get used kind of like a playoff scenario
- 17:40Speaker 3: in these Detroit games. Like the, the, the moves are
- 17:44Speaker 3: starting to happen as if we're, we're trying to, um,
- 17:47Speaker 3: you know, hard at that point. And, you know, Zebby,
- 17:49Speaker 3: obviously it's yesterday's outing was a weird, I think it's
- 17:52Speaker 3: when you're sitting for that long, especially as a starter,
- 17:54Speaker 3: like you're prepping, he was prepping last the night before
- 17:58Speaker 3: to get ready for that start. And then you get
- 17:59Speaker 3: to the field, start getting ready. You know, I've had
- 18:02Speaker 3: weird rain out, rain delays in Detroit where it actually
- 18:05Speaker 3: never rained. And then it rains like once the game starts,
- 18:07Speaker 3: like it's just a weird weather place sometimes.
- 18:09Speaker 2: And it was weird.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Like it's literally happened where it never rained a drop.
- 18:13Speaker 3: We sat for two hours and then played and it rained. Um,
- 18:17Speaker 3: So it's just that, you know, chalk that one up
- 18:18Speaker 3: to some, whatever you want to call it, bad luck,
- 18:21Speaker 3: bad juju, whatever. But it's as a, as a player,
- 18:25Speaker 3: like me looking at it and hearing the schedule, it's,
- 18:28Speaker 3: there's still a chance. Like that's the greatest part about baseball.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Like you have to play all of the games, no
- 18:34Speaker 3: matter what, like, you know, Jose Ramirez could stub his
- 18:37Speaker 3: toe and miss the series. You know, like crazy things
- 18:40Speaker 3: can happen. You know, there's been teams that get sick,
- 18:43Speaker 3: you know, 15 guys have the flu and you don't
- 18:45Speaker 3: hear about it because it's behind closed doors. But like,
- 18:47Speaker 3: Crazy things happen. And that's the only reason I can
- 18:51Speaker 3: be optimistic is because I've been in those scenarios where
- 18:54Speaker 3: it's like, you know, we've gotten rid of guys at
- 18:56Speaker 3: the deadline and still made a push at the end
- 18:57Speaker 3: and made a wild card. You know, it's, there's just,
- 19:01Speaker 3: there's still too many games for me to say no,
- 19:04Speaker 3: unlike Dan. But it's, you know, it's just one, I've
- 19:08Speaker 3: still got some hope in me, just a smidge.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Dan, I promise you and all of our listeners that
- 19:15Speaker 1: if the opposite happens this weekend and the Twins get swept,
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'll turn a little more negative.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Come back unshaven, looking like you're hungover, that kind of– no,
- 19:29Speaker 4: that's good. Zach will have.
- 19:30Speaker 2: To eat some pie.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Yeah. You'll be on the beach already.
- 19:34Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:35Speaker 4: This Duff sounds with, when he's like, I got a
- 19:37Speaker 4: little hope in me. It sounds like Luke, Luke Skywalker
- 19:40Speaker 4: talking about dark, Darth Vader. He's still got a little
- 19:42Speaker 4: bit of good left.
- 19:43Speaker 2: There's a little light left.
- 19:45Speaker 4: There's a little light, There's a little bit left. I mean,
- 19:48Speaker 4: I would totally agree with you guys if I saw
- 19:52Speaker 4: any signs of life from like Royce Lewis. Zach, you
- 19:55Speaker 4: were mentioning the stats. What are the stats since August 13th?
- 19:58Speaker 1: He's hitting 180 with a 468 OPS, one homer, three
- 20:04Speaker 1: doubles among his 16 hits in that span.
- 20:07Speaker 4: I mean, this is a guy that we're counting on
- 20:09Speaker 4: to carry them This is a guy that the Twins
- 20:12Speaker 4: looked at and said at the start of the year,
- 20:14Speaker 4: we need to unlock his potential and get him back
- 20:17Speaker 4: to the guy he was. And we saw little snippets
- 20:20Speaker 4: of it after he came back from AAA in June.
- 20:24Speaker 4: But we have not seen it consistently this whole summer.
- 20:29Speaker 4: It's been inconsistent. He's played at career-high games right now.
- 20:33Speaker 4: He's got career-high plate appearances. And this is a guy
- 20:36Speaker 4: that hit nine or ten home runs consistently. in a
- 20:40Speaker 4: month and carried them in June of 2024. And he
- 20:42Speaker 4: had a terrible slump at the end of the season.
- 20:44Speaker 4: Like his last two months of the 2024 season, he
- 20:47Speaker 4: had a sub 600 OPS and like he needs to
- 20:52Speaker 4: break that trend. You know what I mean? They need,
- 20:54Speaker 4: they need Royce Lewis because when Byron Buxton's down, you
- 20:57Speaker 4: need your guys with star potential to step up. And like,
- 21:01Speaker 4: we just haven't seen it there. We haven't, but it's
- 21:03Speaker 4: not just him. There's so many guys where it just
- 21:06Speaker 4: hasn't clicked yet. I mean, it does not seem like
- 21:08Speaker 4: Larnik has been the same guy since he found out
- 21:11Speaker 4: he was almost traded. He came back and hit those
- 21:13Speaker 4: two home runs. The morning the trade rumor came out
- 21:18Speaker 4: of the Brian Abreu for Trevor Larnik, he hit a
- 21:21Speaker 4: home run in Seattle. I think it was his first
- 21:23Speaker 4: at bat. And he hit a home run the next day.
- 21:26Speaker 4: And since then, he's really struggled too. But I mean,
- 21:29Speaker 4: it's everywhere. And it's just hard to see them. getting
- 21:34Speaker 4: going to roll seven or eight in a row off.
- 21:36Speaker 4: And yeah, the schedule is 100% there to take advantage
- 21:40Speaker 4: of that. Although the giants just swept St. Louis and
- 21:44Speaker 4: are playing a little better out there. But like, you know,
- 21:48Speaker 4: the twins haven't fared well against those bottom feeders as
- 21:51Speaker 4: it is all season. That's been one of their, their
- 21:54Speaker 4: weaknesses is not stepping up and taking advantage.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So it's like, how are they going to better against
- 22:00Speaker 1: the Yankees in some ways?
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah. How are they expected to buck these trends? Sometimes
- 22:07Speaker 4: you are what you are. I think we've seen that
- 22:11Speaker 4: out of this team for a while. The part that
- 22:15Speaker 4: sucks about it is that this is a very likable group.
- 22:19Speaker 4: They are enjoying playing with each other. There's been so
- 22:22Speaker 4: many parts of this season that have been highly entertaining.
- 22:26Speaker 4: There's been good development. This isn't a lost season by
- 22:30Speaker 4: any means. That's not it's more just like, all right, it's,
- 22:35Speaker 4: it is what it is at this point. And that's
- 22:37Speaker 4: where I'm at. But also you're right. You guys are correct.
- 22:41Speaker 4: It like, I've seen a Rockies team dead in the
- 22:43Speaker 4: water when 14 in a row, that was my first season.
- 22:46Speaker 4: I was covering the Padres and the Rockies look just,
- 22:50Speaker 4: they looked like ass. They were terrible. They, and they
- 22:54Speaker 4: roll off 14 in a row and made it all
- 22:56Speaker 4: the way to the world series by winning seven more
- 22:58Speaker 4: in the playoffs. But I mean, you know, That's like
- 23:01Speaker 4: an all-time application. That is an all-time team that was
- 23:05Speaker 4: able to do that. The Twins have the vibes internally,
- 23:09Speaker 4: but externally, I don't know that that's possible.
- 23:13Speaker 1: We'll see. We've talked about this many times, but the
- 23:17Speaker 1: mushy middle here of the American League has changed the
- 23:21Speaker 1: tone of the conversation around the team to this point,
- 23:23Speaker 1: at least on this podcast. Obviously, there are plenty of
- 23:26Speaker 1: problems that need to be addressed, and this is a
- 23:28Speaker 1: team that's tracking still to be 70-some wins. In a
- 23:31Speaker 1: normal season, we would have spent the last two months
- 23:34Speaker 1: talking about how it just wasn't good enough. Instead, we've
- 23:36Speaker 1: been distracted by this playoff race, which continues with 16
- 23:40Speaker 1: games to go. Fear not. We have a long offseason
- 23:45Speaker 1: to address all of the many things. Obviously, there are
- 23:49Speaker 1: issues and things to fix that come up. We'll take
- 23:51Speaker 1: one more break, come back, talk about a few more
- 23:53Speaker 1: things from the last couple games in Detroit right after this.
- 23:59Speaker 5: Dehydration is real, people. So are quince electrolyte stick packs.
- 24:05Speaker 5: All of a sudden, you don't need some big bottle
- 24:07Speaker 5: to carry around. Just these little packets if you suddenly
- 24:10Speaker 5: feel like you need a little hydration. Raspberry salt, delicious.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Citrus salt, my personal favorite. And watermelon salt for those
- 24:17Speaker 5: watermelon lovers out there. Very solid. Just in your water bottle.
- 24:22Speaker 6: I'm a watermelon guy.
- 24:23Speaker 7: It's quick, easy in the morning. Wake up, feeling a
- 24:25Speaker 7: little down. Throw some in there, feeling great. Throw some
- 24:28Speaker 7: in there because it'll keep that high going. So stay
- 24:30Speaker 7: on it. It hydrates you because of that fermented rice,
- 24:34Speaker 7: great tasting, and it makes.
- 24:36Speaker 1: You feel better.
- 24:37Speaker 5: They're made in the USA, rigorously third-party tested. Give your
- 24:40Speaker 5: body what it really needs to stay hydrated. Quince.com slash

- 25:05Speaker 1: here on YouTube. Or if you're listening, come to our
- 25:08Speaker 1: YouTube page or find us on X. Find Dan. He's
- 25:11Speaker 1: at Dan Hayes MLB on X. Some other notes from
- 25:15Speaker 1: the series in Detroit. Joe Ryan made his return on Monday.
- 25:20Speaker 1: We mentioned it earlier. And it was rocky at times.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Some control issues. Hit a couple guys. Knocked in a
- 25:27Speaker 1: run that way, I believe, right? By hitting a batter.
- 25:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 1: But overall, the line, four innings, seven strikeouts, I think.
- 25:34Speaker 1: A couple of earned runs, and it was definitely better
- 25:36Speaker 1: than the starts that preceded his trip to the IL, Dan.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Seven strikeouts, 12 swings and misses in the 60-something pitches
- 25:46Speaker 4: it was, whatever it was. 66 pitches. All of his
- 25:51Speaker 4: stuff was up. His fastball velocity over the year was
- 25:56Speaker 4: up by half a mile per hour. So those are
- 25:59Speaker 4: good signs. That's what they needed. And, you know, it's
- 26:03Speaker 4: kind of funny because Joe Ryan, like as my cat
- 26:07Speaker 4: is cleaning herself in the background there, we saw like
- 26:15Speaker 4: signs of life that were good. And he's got, you know,
- 26:19Speaker 4: maybe three more starts left potentially. I imagine they'll try
- 26:24Speaker 4: to optimize him as much as possible in this run
- 26:26Speaker 4: and get Joe Ryan out there. So if that's what
- 26:28Speaker 4: they can get from him, I think the first time,
- 26:31Speaker 4: and Tyler can talk about this, but the first time
- 26:34Speaker 4: you stand in with batters in there, you see how
- 26:36Speaker 4: your stuff is playing. You have to adjust. And so
- 26:39Speaker 4: it didn't shock me that he was a little wild,
- 26:43Speaker 4: especially given that all of his stuff was up. So
- 26:45Speaker 4: his slider was 1.7 miles per hour faster. His knuckle
- 26:49Speaker 4: curve was 1.2 miles per hour faster. Um, like he's
- 26:55Speaker 4: working with stuff. They probably hasn't had that good of
- 26:58Speaker 4: feel for, for a while. And, and it didn't shock
- 27:01Speaker 4: me that there was some rust, uh, early, but then
- 27:04Speaker 4: he dialed it in and, and to walk away one,
- 27:07Speaker 4: I was shocked. He went for, um, because you see
- 27:10Speaker 4: the pitch count climbing and you're like, Oh no, this
- 27:11Speaker 4: isn't going to be good. And two for him to
- 27:13Speaker 4: get the seven strikeouts, uh, they were losing. Obviously pre-lit
- 27:17Speaker 4: came in and gave up the home run and, and they,
- 27:20Speaker 4: that game got away from them. They tried to rally
- 27:22Speaker 4: and couldn't get back. But, there was some encouraging signs
- 27:25Speaker 4: from Joe, I thought.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it looked good.
- 27:29Speaker 3: And coming back, like you said, it's, it's one thing
- 27:31Speaker 3: to go pitch in the minor leagues. It's comfy, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 3: it's a lot less stressful environment, things like that. You know, but,
- 27:38Speaker 3: but to go and do it, you know, I think
- 27:40Speaker 3: it was in Omaha at that point too.
- 27:41Speaker 2: So it's on the road. Like, it's just a very.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Much, I don't want to say complacent kind of start,
- 27:46Speaker 3: but it's just like, you're making sure you feel good.
- 27:48Speaker 3: And that's all you're really worried about. You know, as
- 27:51Speaker 3: someone who didn't go on any rehab ever, I don't
- 27:54Speaker 3: know exactly what that feels like, but it is one.
- 27:57Speaker 2: It's tough. Definitely for a hitter.
- 27:58Speaker 3: It's probably a lot easier to come out of versus
- 28:02Speaker 3: as a pitcher, like you've got to get that adrenaline.
- 28:04Speaker 2: You've got to feel it. You know, and.
- 28:06Speaker 3: He definitely, whether he did admit it or not, there
- 28:08Speaker 3: was a little tick up probably in some nerves, things
- 28:10Speaker 3: like that. Just get back on that mound the first time.
- 28:12Speaker 3: And it's, it's one, when it does come out hot
- 28:14Speaker 3: like that, like I'd have days randomly where the ball
- 28:17Speaker 3: is just moving a little different.
- 28:18Speaker 2: You're like, all right, well, this is what we got today.
- 28:20Speaker 2: And then that's, That's part of baseball.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Sometimes you show up to the yard and one day
- 28:25Speaker 3: it's just something feels different. And you've got to adapt
- 28:28Speaker 3: on the fly and work with it, especially when you're
- 28:30Speaker 3: trending upwards. Like, all right, I just need to attack today.
- 28:34Speaker 3: If your fastball is playing up and you're a curveball guy,
- 28:36Speaker 3: it's like, hey, we're throwing number one today until they
- 28:39Speaker 3: hit it. And him coming back, getting to that pitch count,
- 28:43Speaker 3: I think that's probably why he stayed out as long
- 28:45Speaker 3: as he did. They wanted to make sure he got
- 28:46Speaker 3: his pitches in. You know, and kept it close. Swing
- 28:49Speaker 3: and miss is always a good thing, especially with Joe. Like,
- 28:52Speaker 3: that's his game is getting the bad swings, you know,
- 28:55Speaker 3: swinging at the fastball that they just seemingly can't hit.
- 28:58Speaker 3: You know, and hopefully that means, hey, if he goes
- 29:01Speaker 3: smooth and cruises, keeps his pitch down, like, he can
- 29:04Speaker 3: get to the sixth with 75 pitches pretty easily. So
- 29:08Speaker 3: that's one of those things. It's hard to give up
- 29:11Speaker 3: hope at this point because there's some things that are
- 29:14Speaker 3: still there, you know, and Clemens and Bell, in my mind, like,
- 29:17Speaker 3: got hot and you know hits the oppo homers like
- 29:20Speaker 3: there's guys that are in place that can do it
- 29:23Speaker 3: it's just like dan said it's it can't be one
- 29:25Speaker 3: guy every day it's kind of got to be the
- 29:27Speaker 3: team at this point you know we can't get picked
- 29:29Speaker 3: off a first base you know in the first inning
- 29:32Speaker 3: like stuff like that just can't happen um so it's
- 29:36Speaker 3: it's i don't know it's a tough road but it
- 29:38Speaker 3: can definitely happen. I'm not giving up.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Tuesday's win in Detroit was great for anyone who was
- 29:49Speaker 1: a fan of the trade deadline moves because Dean Kramer,
- 29:52Speaker 1: a nice start for the Twins. Two runs in, I think,
- 29:57Speaker 1: five innings it was. Minter and Hoffman each threw a
- 30:00Speaker 1: clean inning. Gomez with the save, obviously not part of
- 30:02Speaker 1: the trade deadline. But also in that game, the Twins
- 30:07Speaker 1: were up 1-0. Dean Kramer was holding on, and he
- 30:10Speaker 1: had two outs in that fifth inning. And then just
- 30:12Speaker 1: like that, a single in Anapo Homer, and the Twins
- 30:15Speaker 1: are down 2-1. And I admit, I'm like, that's it.
- 30:17Speaker 1: It's over. This team can't hit right now, can't come
- 30:22Speaker 1: back from a deficit, even such a small one. But
- 30:24Speaker 1: then in the sixth inning, What do you know? Cody Clemens,
- 30:28Speaker 1: a two-run homer. He had another one yesterday. And in
- 30:31Speaker 1: that same period of time that Royce Lewis has been
- 30:36Speaker 1: struggling so bad, since August 13th. August 13th, by the way,
- 30:40Speaker 1: was the Field of Dreams game in which Clemens also homered.
- 30:45Speaker 1: 293 average and a 914 OPS for Clemens since then.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He took over the team home run lead from Byron
- 30:50Speaker 1: Buxton yesterday with his 26th of the year. Buxton obviously
- 30:54Speaker 1: a lengthy drought without one and now not playing. But Tyler, it's,
- 30:59Speaker 1: it's been a huge summer for Cody Clemens for sure.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:03Speaker 3: He's you know, we keep talking about the twins going
- 31:05Speaker 3: to spend more money and things like that. Like he's
- 31:08Speaker 3: going to get a nice little payday first year, which
- 31:10Speaker 3: is good for him, man. He's that's a guy who's
- 31:13Speaker 3: persevered over some tough spots. You know, he's, I guess
- 31:16Speaker 3: he came up with Detroit. I remember seeing him, you know,
- 31:19Speaker 3: kind of got a shot there, but not really, you know,
- 31:22Speaker 3: bounced around to Philly and, And the Twins gave him
- 31:24Speaker 3: an opportunity. They saw a guy that could potentially be
- 31:27Speaker 3: a good fit, and he's gotten comfy. He's gotten to
- 31:30Speaker 3: know the lay of the land. He's playing all over
- 31:32Speaker 3: the field. I think he made a nice catch and
- 31:35Speaker 3: left the other day. He's done everything they could possibly
- 31:39Speaker 3: ask of him, and that's what you want. He's taken
- 31:43Speaker 3: over that kind of super utility role. Lee's sliding to third.
- 31:47Speaker 3: Culpepper is short now. Keyshaw seemingly is going to be
- 31:51Speaker 3: an outfielder now. Um, you know, it's Clemens has been
- 31:54Speaker 3: the guy that they can kind of plug and play
- 31:56Speaker 3: to keep them in that lineup. And that's, you know,
- 31:58Speaker 3: a cornerstone piece that will technically be affordable regardless of
- 32:02Speaker 3: what he makes, um, compared to other guys that are
- 32:05Speaker 3: putting up those numbers. I mean, he's, he's got a
- 32:07Speaker 3: chance to get 30 homers this year and hitting what
- 32:09Speaker 3: two 60, two seven 50, whatever it is. Um, you know,
- 32:13Speaker 3: that's a, that's an above average in my mind, offensive
- 32:16Speaker 3: player in today's game. And, um, it's been fun to
- 32:19Speaker 3: watch him, you know, he's come up clutch so many
- 32:21Speaker 3: times and, and he just seems to be the right
- 32:23Speaker 3: guy at the right time more often than not. And,
- 32:26Speaker 3: you know, that, that helps those young guys around him
- 32:29Speaker 3: to see like, it's, it's takes some time. It's, it's developing,
- 32:33Speaker 3: it's learning yourself, figuring out what you're good at and,
- 32:37Speaker 3: and using that to your advantage. And he's taken his
- 32:40Speaker 3: opportunities and he's made a huge run with it. And,
- 32:44Speaker 3: you know, it's one, regardless of how the season goes,
- 32:47Speaker 3: I would love to be able to pencil him in as,
- 32:49Speaker 3: you know, two hole, three hole, whatever it is.
- 32:51Speaker 2: For next season. He's going to be a big piece.
- 32:55Speaker 1: We get so much time to talk about what next
- 32:59Speaker 1: year's team is going to look like.
- 33:01Speaker 4: Real quick. I mean, Cody, we've been struggling. The writers
- 33:05Speaker 4: have been talking about it with Byron down who the
- 33:07Speaker 4: team MVP is just because there's not a surefire candidate,
- 33:11Speaker 4: but I'm thinking the way he's performed of late and
- 33:14Speaker 4: his home runs are all meaningful. Every single, like it just,
- 33:17Speaker 4: you look at it, the percentage of them, And what
- 33:20Speaker 4: they've done to tie or put the team ahead, it's
- 33:21Speaker 4: been consistent. One, since I have been down most of
- 33:25Speaker 4: this episode, I'll give you guys one.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Upbeat.
- 33:29Speaker 4: I thought Andrew Morris, that was a really big moment
- 33:31Speaker 4: for him Tuesday night. He's struggled. Like we've just seen
- 33:36Speaker 4: the rookie, the rookie like hit the wall, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 4: in basketball, it's the, in college basketball, they always talk
- 33:44Speaker 4: about the freshmen when they hit the 15 or 20
- 33:46Speaker 4: game mark hitting a wall and like, physically struggling and
- 33:50Speaker 4: for relievers i've talked about it all year but morris
- 33:53Speaker 4: came in mentor gave up the leadoff walk uh then
- 33:56Speaker 4: stolen base um and the ryan jefferson throw went in
- 34:00Speaker 4: the center field so all of a sudden detroit down
- 34:02Speaker 4: by a run has the runner on third and mentor
- 34:05Speaker 4: got the first out but morris came in and got
- 34:07Speaker 4: two outs and just Location was better. Command of executing
- 34:12Speaker 4: pitches to where he wanted to was better. But just
- 34:14Speaker 4: I thought that was a good moment for him given
- 34:17Speaker 4: everything that he has struggled with lately. And it's kind
- 34:21Speaker 4: of just I've thought to expect those struggles would come along.
- 34:26Speaker 4: But to get a big bounce back moment there and
- 34:28Speaker 4: contribute to a win had to be good for him
- 34:31Speaker 4: because they need him. Like you look at that game
- 34:33Speaker 4: and Kramer went five and it's like how are they
- 34:35Speaker 4: going to cover these four innings? if Morris isn't part
- 34:39Speaker 4: of that picture, it was like, that means that Hoffman
- 34:42Speaker 4: or mentor is going to have to go one plus
- 34:44Speaker 4: in here somewhere. Um, you knew that they were going
- 34:47Speaker 4: to kind of have to work around that and Hoffman,
- 34:51Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Hoffman or mentor was going to each have
- 34:53Speaker 4: to go one plus in there. Uh, mentor did go
- 34:55Speaker 4: 1.1 and, um, Hoffman went the one closed out, but yeah, they,
- 35:01Speaker 4: they need Morris to contribute. Um, he's been really good
- 35:04Speaker 4: all year. It's been unfortunate run for him. But there's
- 35:08Speaker 4: a lot to like there, especially going forward, as to
- 35:11Speaker 4: what he can be in a setup-type role. Because, man,
- 35:14Speaker 4: his stuff when it's on is electric.
- 35:18Speaker 3: No, to that point, I think Sheltie putting him in
- 35:22Speaker 3: that spot, that's that reassuring confidence that sometimes we can't
- 35:27Speaker 3: create ourselves as players. You need to know the head
- 35:31Speaker 3: honcho wants me in this spot. And that's the only
- 35:35Speaker 3: way sometimes to shake it is, you know, who knows
- 35:37Speaker 3: whether he was expecting or not.
- 35:39Speaker 2: But when he heard.
- 35:40Speaker 3: That phone ring and it was him in that moment,
- 35:42Speaker 3: I guarantee you there's a little bit of like, oh, shit,
- 35:44Speaker 3: it's me.
- 35:45Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 35:47Speaker 2: But it works.
- 35:48Speaker 3: Like sometimes that's what it takes. And he looked like
- 35:52Speaker 3: the guy we saw the first half. And that's if
- 35:55Speaker 3: he again, little sparks, if he can be the guy
- 35:58Speaker 3: that ran hot for that two months or whatever it was.
- 36:01Speaker 3: that's a huge boost to that pen to the rest
- 36:03Speaker 3: of it. The depth just keeps getting better. And that's
- 36:05Speaker 3: one of those little things that a manager and a
- 36:08Speaker 3: pitching coach and staff can do to like get a
- 36:10Speaker 3: guy out of a funk and, you know, who knows,
- 36:13Speaker 3: say he goes hot and doesn't give up a hit
- 36:14Speaker 3: the rest of the way.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Like that's, that's a guy you can lean on.
- 36:19Speaker 1: We talked about Andrew Morris's struggles on Monday. He promptly
- 36:24Speaker 1: comes out and has a, A clutch outing. We talked
- 36:27Speaker 1: about Walker Jenkins' struggles on Monday. He came out and
- 36:29Speaker 1: had a two-RBI double the next day. So let me
- 36:32Speaker 1: just say, the Twins are terrible, and there's no possible
- 36:36Speaker 1: way they can sweep Cleveland and come back in this wild.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Could never happen.
- 36:40Speaker 1: It's not happening.
- 36:41Speaker 6: No way.
- 36:43Speaker 2: All right.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Well, that's enough for today. Dan's ready to go to
- 36:46Speaker 1: the beach a couple weeks away, perhaps. We'll see. If
