- 2:53Dave. How are you to day doing fine? Thank you for being I'm
- 2:54glad you were able to find a place to park out here. We're doing
- 2:57some bit of remodeling on the outside. And as I was telling you and
- 3:00Nick, who's in the green room, Nick quyn will be your next guest.
- 3:02And it's kind kind of difficult sledding to get in on the lot here
- 3:07today because we got remodeling going out. Plus Monday is always our busy day
- 3:10here anyway, with meetings and whatnot. So I'm glad you were able to
- 3:15make an end this morning. Yeah, me too. Thank you. You're
- 3:16parked somewhere near Clendennon, but that's okay, you're here, right, You're
- 3:20all right. I needed the exercise. So the sixty day Legslative session,
- 3:25Doug just wrapped up Saturday night, or this week ago Saturday night a guest,
- 3:29and I know there were some talking things like discipline and whatnot for more
- 3:32traditional schools. Was there anything in particular about virtual schools addressed during the session
- 3:38that interested you. There was lots of things that interest me, but I
- 3:43think most importantly what I saw in the legislative session is there is a continued
- 3:49support system for school choice in West Virginia, especially charter schools and virtual charter
- 3:54schools. Nothing major really is going to impact us moving into the twenty four
- 4:00to twenty five school year. But I think on both sides of the House
- 4:03and the Senate, we just see continued support from our elected officials, and
- 4:10for that, I'm really grateful. Now there was and I'm gonna talk about
- 4:14this in entail a little bit later on the show if I get time.
- 4:15And that's HB fifty one oh five, which was the vaccine bill that was
- 4:19discussed, And again it's kind of a it's kind of a convoluted story.
- 4:25I'll get into a little bit later on on the show, because Brad's got
- 4:28a story posted about the lead story this morning at wv metronews dot com.
- 4:31Any comment on vaccines or anything like that. My understanding is that virtual charter
- 4:38schools were not a part of that. Okay, okay, all right,
- 4:41all right, so you folks are going on the road, I understand,
- 4:44Yes, tell me about this. So we have to test our students.
- 4:47The Golden Horseshoe, that's the West Virginia History Test, and we'll be out
- 4:53administering that test in the next couple of weeks. And because we have to
- 4:57be in all parts of the state, because as you know, we have
- 5:00students in all fifty five counties, what we decided to do is set up
- 5:04in some coffee shops in the evenings so that if there are families who are
- 5:09interested in learning what we have to offer, they just want to meet us,
- 5:13they can come out. Our current students, they can come out and
- 5:15meet us face to face, even though they see us all the time online.
- 5:19We also understand that with this federal money that is no longer going to
- 5:23be available next year, there's a lot of teachers and school personnel that are
- 5:28now looking for new positions. Our school is growing. We actually just posted
- 5:32ten new jobs last week. We're looking to hire probably another ten, so
- 5:38twenty new positions going into next school year. And so if you're one of
- 5:42those folks who is looking for a new position, we also wanted to make
- 5:45ourselves available. So we've got a little road show starting on let's see on
- 5:50the twenty first here in Charleston down at Kenall City at the Starbucks twenty fifth
- 5:57we'll be at the Starbucks on Huntington, will be at del Monte Market up
- 6:00in Elkins on the twenty fifth. We'll be at mug Shots on the twenty
- 6:04fifth, and Wheeling the Joe and Fairmont on the twenty sixth, Lock Number
- 6:10four on the twenty seventh, in Parkersburg, Chocolate Moose and Beckley on the
- 6:14twenty seventh. You really are hitting all the coffee shops, aren't you.
- 6:16Yep? And then and then we'll be in Martinsburg on the twenty eighth,
- 6:19hitting the Starbucks right there on Foxcroft. Is there a place online where people
- 6:24can get because you know, people listen to this show not just in Charles
- 6:27Snarry, it's all over the state when they listen on the app. Is
- 6:30there a place where you have an easy to look at list of those?
- 6:32Yes, we do, so they can go to our website WVVA dot K
- 6:35twelve dot com, or they can look us up on Facebook, which is
- 6:39also linked on our website where this information is posted and it's a nice,
- 6:43pretty little graphic that we've put together with it too. So if a parent
- 6:46shows up, or maybe even you said you've got openings for the Virtual Academy,
- 6:50if it's an educator that shows up, what's your selling point to them?
- 6:54What do you tell them that they Maybe they just show up and say,
- 6:57I'd like to have some more information about this, give me the highighlights.
- 7:00Well, what do you tell them? One are some of the highlights
- 7:03and selling points or whatever. We just share with them some student successes,
- 7:09We share with them our philosophy on educating kids, and we talk about our
- 7:14school culture. One of the things that we have at the school is really
- 7:16built around solid relationships. And that's a lot different than what you find in
- 7:23some brick and mortars. Is we really support one another. And we'll have
- 7:27teachers, we'll have administrators, we have a wide variety of folks. And
- 7:30what I always encourage interested parties is, if you really want to know what
- 7:33it's like, all of our teachers are listed on our website. Reach out
- 7:38to one of them directly and talk to them and they'll be able to tell
- 7:41you what it's like to work at the school way better than I can.
- 7:45Don't. Tripalletti is here the Dave Alan showing five Ana line brought to you

- 7:51you're getting your home ready for warm weather, monster, you have a project
- 7:55you're about to get under way. They can help locally owned and operated General
- 7:58Hardware and General Lumber. Visit General Hardware WV dot com. Doug, I
- 8:01understand that you're into open enrollment. Now, explain how that works. So
- 8:07it's school choice, so there's no guarantee that families will enroll with us,
- 8:11and so I think I've shared this before. It changes the way that you
- 8:15think about your students and your families. You look at them as customers,
- 8:20which is something that we pride ourselves on as providing excellent customer service. So
- 8:24we ask our families that are currently enrolled, do you want to come back
- 8:28next year? And they actually have to tell us they have to fill out
- 8:31paperwork. So far, we have about twelve hundred students right now, and
- 8:35a little over half of them have already told us yep, I want to
- 8:39come back. I really like what's going on. We also have open enrollment,
- 8:43and so we have just over sixty new families that have told us I
- 8:48want to be with you next year, and we've the application window has only
- 8:52been open for a few weeks, so to know going into next year,
- 8:56we've got almost seven hundred kids. Considering where we start or did less than
- 9:00two years ago, it's pretty pretty phenomenal. March Doug is Reading month,
- 9:07so talk about that. What are you going on for that? Well,
- 9:11you know, we're school, so we obviously celebrate Doctor Seuss's birthday. What
- 9:15we've had recently is some some guest speakers come in. We had Lauren Trashes
- 9:22come in and read. This week, we have Mandy Figley only she's coming
- 9:26in and she's going to do Miss Maky in the Magic Bun And so we've
- 9:31got a whole collaborative going on. We've got reading challenges with prizes, We've
- 9:35got daily writing activities, we've got story hours where we actually have we've invited
- 9:41parents to come in and do some some read alouds with the kids, and
- 9:48just pretty pretty similar to what you're going to see across the board, just
- 9:50really emphasizing how important reading is. It's all virtual, it's all virtual,
- 9:54but I mean again, you can you can jump on a webcam. You
- 9:58can do a read aloud in the same way that you can in a traditional
- 10:03setting. Just you can see the person, you can see the book with
- 10:07document cameras and still have that interaction where you can see kids faces and see
- 10:11them light up whenever you're doing the voices or whatever it is when you're reading
- 10:16the book and you're in the podcast business. Now, I understand trying to
- 10:20you and everybody else. Well, I've been on your show enough that I
- 10:24really enjoy what you do. And actually I did tell our marketing people I
- 10:28would love to have you on our podcast at some point. Okay, so
- 10:31is there pay involved. I can probably get you some chip clips or maybe
- 10:37a T shirt. I was gonna sit, well, you had me at
- 10:39chips, So just the chips, I'll be fine. Okay, Okay,
- 10:43I'll bring baging Doritos and I'm yours, But go ahead and talk about the
- 10:45podcast. So it's called the Digital Bridge, and what we're trying to do
- 10:50is be a voice for school choice in West Virginia and bring on guests who
- 10:56are four and against. You know, we're just trying to really open it
- 11:03up to guests. Our first we had our first episode last month. Greg
- 11:05Clutter, who was also our board treasurer, was on the initial podcast that
- 11:11we recorded. Next week, we're hoping to have someone from the Cardinal Institute
- 11:16and we're trying to get it set up on a monthly basis. Nothing too
- 11:20overwhelming, maybe twenty thirty minutes where we just want to talk about what virtual
- 11:24education done right in West Virginia is all about and bring on a variety of
- 11:30guests that can bring a unique perspective to school choice in West Virginia. And
- 11:35people could just get that from from their normal podcast provider, I guess,
- 11:39or is it available on the website or well, I know it's on Spotify
- 11:41and I know that they're putting it on the Apple podcast and they should be.
- 11:48They should be able to easily get it and it is linked on our
- 11:52website as well. All right, I understand. Also, and we'll let
- 11:54you go with this. There's some sort of a national photo contest going on.
- 11:58What's that all about? So a couple months ago there was a national
- 12:03photo contest. And this is one of those things that I think is really
- 12:05interesting is Stride K twelve runs all of these competitions, and it's not just
- 12:11open for the K twelve supported schools. These are open to students all across
- 12:16the board. And there was a photo contest that we had and this was
- 12:20really really cool. One of our first grade students from Wood County actually got
- 12:28second in her category and she got a new camera and five hundred bucks.
- 12:33Sweet. And so there was thousands of submissions and to have a little first
- 12:37grader when was pretty awesome. That's awesome. That's good stuff right there.
- 12:43Yeah, it's all about engagement. I mean, no matter what kind of
- 12:46education you're talking about, getting them involved in something other than just I mean,
- 12:48it's all a part of the learning process, but something that interests them
- 12:52as well. Absolutely, Doug, it's always pleasure to talk to you.

- 17:23Kanaw County. Nick, good morning, Welcome to the show. Good morning,
- 17:26it's good to be here. Thank you for being to tell us a
- 17:29little bit about Nick Quinn. Well, I'm a lifelong resident of Kanawk County,
- 17:33son of a preacher man. My dad was a Baptist minister. For
- 17:36any that should be a song, Yeah, no, it is, go
- 17:37ahead. I've been a tattoo artist here in the valley for twenty three years
- 17:41now, owned a few small businesses for the last fifteenek. And I got
- 17:45to ask gave and it has nothing to do with Matred. How'd you get
- 17:48to the tattoo business? Why did you want to do it? Well?
- 17:49I was a student at U See taking some of the art classes over there,
- 17:52and there was a shop in Kanas City just down the block that had
- 17:56opened up that was a nicer shop. Weren't too many nice shops in the
- 18:00valley at the time, so I had gone in and had my first experience
- 18:04with just seeing what it could be, and I saw a vision for myself.
- 18:08Then. I didn't mean to interrupt you, but I don't frequently have
- 18:11somebody on the show that is a tattoo artist. So that's why I wanted
- 18:15to ask you so to continue with your bio was It's been a fantastic career.
- 18:19I don't plan on ever stopping tattooing. I'm very passionate about it,
- 18:23and I've tattooed a lot of folks in the valley that come from all walks
- 18:27of life, which is something I think is very valuable to be able to
- 18:32empathize with people on a level. You know, You've had hour long,
- 18:34two hour long conversations with folks you know that tell you all about themselves.
- 18:38It's nice to be able to get to know people. So why do you
- 18:41want to be a magistrate? Well, I mean again, I think I
- 18:45can do some good in the in the valley here. I feel like I
- 18:49have a vision for positive change over there. I want to bring some civility
- 18:52to the courthouse that's been missing, some cooperation amongst the magistrates. I think
- 18:59a lot of times people don't know what they're going to get when they go
- 19:02over there. There's not a lot of consistency, and I think I can
- 19:04bring that over there. Your political party is I'm an independent independent registered independent.
- 19:10Okay, So you talked about trying to bring civility back to the office.
- 19:12What are some of the biggest the other big needs in the magistrate's office
- 19:17in your opinion? Well, you know, when I talk to folks,
- 19:19they want to see transparency. They want to see an increase in efficiency,
- 19:25and there's a lot of inefficiency that happens in the courthouse. You know.
- 19:27You may as I've tied to a lot of law enforcement and one of the
- 19:30complaints that I hear from them is that they'll go over on their day off
- 19:36because they've been subpoenaed. They may sit for twenty thirty minutes and then be
- 19:40told, oh, we're going to continue this or this isn't going to happen
- 19:42today, and then the taxpayers get paid, you know, taxt or three
- 19:48sometimes three hours of overtime for a police officer that's been sitting in the courthouse.
- 19:52You know. So I think that if we can increase the efficiency,
- 19:53it's going to help everybody out. And you hear so many people that talk
- 19:59about that about cases being dropped or thrown out of whatever because the law enforcement
- 20:03officer, you know, for one reason another didn't show up, or maybe
- 20:06they couldn't stay there, you know, they had they had had to leave
- 20:08to go on. So I completely get. We're talking again with Nick Quinn,
- 20:11who's a candidate for a magistrate here in Canawa County. And you know,
- 20:15Nick, I've seen I've had so many people on this show and other
- 20:18places, from law enforcement to judges who talk about repeat customers for lack of
- 20:26a better term, in the court system, and it's and they tell me,
- 20:29you know, you seem like you see a whole lot of the same
- 20:32people. I'll get friends that are police officers, not only here in the
- 20:33area but throughout the state and they say, well, you know, I've
- 20:37seen this particular lady five times this month or whatever. Judges will say the
- 20:41same thing. How do we change that cycle? In your opinion, well,
- 20:45reducing recidivism is you know, a pretty important thing to do when you
- 20:49when you run for a position like this, and that's a that's a tough
- 20:52one to tackle, but I think that having a positive impact on young offenders,
- 20:57getting them early understand the way that the system works and that it can
- 21:03work for them rather than against them is an important way to get the cycle
- 21:07started for that. And drugs, you know, the elephant in the room.
- 21:11As I anytime I have a candidate for magistrate or judge, as I
- 21:14said, or anybody else in the show, I always have to throw it
- 21:17out there. The law enforcement, the judges, the judicial system in general
- 21:19will tell you about ninety five percent, if not more, of the cases
- 21:22that you see are somehow related to drugs. If it's a larceny, if
- 21:29it's a domestic violence, if it's an assault, or whatever, somewhere,
- 21:33drugs is in it. Take it from there. Well, I think in
- 21:37a lot of cases, drugs may not be at the root of that problem.
- 21:41It could be a secondary offense, you know, maybe possession as a
- 21:45secondary offense on top of something that they've already done. So I think the
- 21:48statistics might be a little skewed there, but the fact that drugs are present
- 21:52in most of those things is a problem. I think if we would increase
- 21:56the drug court over at the courthouse, maybe maybe have have something at a
- 22:03lower level than it is now, would help. But I think increasing the
- 22:08need for at least promotion and mental health awareness, you know, getting some
- 22:12of these people some help. You know, a lot of people are on
- 22:15drugs because they're depressed or you know, they just don't see a way out.
- 22:21And I think if we can help some of these folks with their mental
- 22:22health, then it would reduce the number of people that we see in there
- 22:26for drugs. Mental health is such an issue in this country, and it's
- 22:30not just in the with the drug situation. It because you well know,
- 22:33I mean, it's there's I mean, you know, whether it's the homeless
- 22:36issue or whatever. Again, Charles was no different than anywhere. Health.
- 22:38Mental health is at the is at the root of a lot of these problems,
- 22:41absolutely, and I see a lot of that as a tattoo artist.
- 22:44You know, I've tattooed a lot of people that have had self harm scars
- 22:47that they want to cover up from previous years of whether it was drug abuse
- 22:52or depression or you know, just there's a lot of things that affect people
- 22:56in their lives and we just need to be able to help them out.

- 23:26you don't know can't hurt you. Has the campaign been so far, It's
- 23:30been great. We've had a few events. Actually had a karaoke event over
- 23:33at Rock City that went real well really Oh yeah. We had Johnny Mike
- 23:36over there singing. That was a good time. That's our engineer here,
- 23:37absolutely, Johnny Mac. Yeah, he's got an amazing voice. Lets I
- 23:41said, what kind of singer is it? Because all we hear is all
- 23:44we hear from him is you know, yelling at us over something we're doing
- 23:47wrong. Here kidding, I'm kidding. Pretty good singer, huh, not
- 23:51bad? Not bad. We had we had some talented folks show up that
- 23:52night. It was a good time. So I mean, are you the
- 23:56cape, the type that goes out and does door to door knocking, standing
- 24:00in the intersection with a sign. What's your campaign's travel? Well, that's
- 24:03mostly what I'm going to be doing now. You know. I had to
- 24:04have a few fundraisers in order to buy those signs. Yes, they're not
- 24:07cheap. So I got the signs in on Friday. I'll be distributing those
- 24:11neighborhood to neighborhood, doing the door to door stuff. I've got some door
- 24:15hangers, so hopefully they don't litter the neighborhoods. But I do want people
- 24:18to know what I'm about and what I can do for them. What do
- 24:21people when they when you encounter somebody either in your in your tattoo place,
- 24:27or you're just talking to somebody out on the street, what do you hear
- 24:30from the public about what they want from the magistrate's office. It's it's a
- 24:33little disappointing, but a lot of what I hear is I don't know what
- 24:37a magistrate does, and if you've not had an experience in the courthouse,
- 24:41it makes sense that you wouldn't. But I would hope that people would want
- 24:44to be informed on who's going to be on the other side of that door
- 24:45if they do get you know, arrested, or need to come in for
- 24:48a civil dispute, or you know, one of the many hats that a
- 24:52magister wears. It it's good to know what type of qualifications that it takes
- 24:56to go into that position. So I think people just need to educate themselves
- 25:00on what their candidates are even running for a lot of times, so what
- 25:06I hear a lot from people, and this could be, you know,
- 25:10it could be could be true or not. But what I hear from a
- 25:11lot of people is I said, well, as soon as somebody's arrested,
- 25:14they just let them out. I get they meaning the court system is general.
- 25:17How do you respond to that? Well, I mean there's a there's
- 25:22a set way that things have been done, which is a lot of what's
- 25:25happening right now, and then there's the way that things could be. And
- 25:29I think once I get in, I can have a better assessment of what
- 25:33we can do to increase the efficiency over there and to make sure that people
- 25:37are consistent. And that's why I want to work with my other magistrates once
- 25:41I get in to create a consistent bond for people. You know, you
- 25:47may have one magistrate that sends somebody away for something that another one would just
- 25:52send them with a pr you know. So it's it's really about consistency and
- 25:57making sure that everybody's on the same page in that court house. Nick Quinn

- 27:03where my campaign headquarters is for now, and we're going to do the best
- 27:07we can to make sure that I can get in there. All right,
- 27:08Nick, This is a segment that I call the Final thirty. We don't
- 27:12time you, so you can go longer, you can go shorter. Why
- 27:15should someone vote for Nickquinn from Agaster to Canawah County. Well, I mean,
- 27:22I know what people have told me that they want to see in there.
- 27:23They want to be treated fairly, they want to be respected. If
- 27:26I do get elected, I don't plan on being judge or your honor.
- 27:29I just want to be Nick. I want people to feel comfortable when they
- 27:30come in. I want to protect our most vulnerable. You know, some
- 27:33of the elder abuse that's happened child abuse. Those are things that I'm passionate
- 27:38about. I went through both the City of Charleston's Police Academy the Citizens Academy.
- 27:44I'm in their alumni association. I also did the FBI's version, and
- 27:47I'm an active member of their alumni association. I'm on the board development Federal
- 27:52Credit Union. We've been trying to do a lot of things with the community
- 27:53with them. I'm on the board for Festival, so you know we're trying
- 27:57to do good things there as well. Again, I'd like to increase the
- 28:00efficiency and civility and have a positive impact on young offenders in Kanawk County.
- 28:06All right, well, Nick, we wish you the best of luck.
- 28:07Election days here just in a couple of months. So this is the time
- 28:11now that spring is officially here. I guess today, I think is when
- 28:12spring starts. I think they feel like it out there, no, and
- 28:15then it's not going to feel like a rest day. But you'll be out
- 28:17and about doing more of these candidate type forums. Are you open to those
- 28:22things? I plan to go to Belltown. I say there's a big one
- 28:26in Belton. I'm gonna talk about that a little bit later on so you'll
- 28:27be there. I will be there. That's my hometown. I can't have
- 28:30people showing up in my hometown without me being there. Well, that wouldn't
- 28:33look good. I think there's a couple, at least a couple. I
- 28:37saw the list. I had to Mayor Fletcher on the show last Thursday,
- 28:40and he had a list at that time, and I'd say it's probably doubled
- 28:42since then since he was on the show. I'm sure of people that were
- 28:45coming. So you're you're one of them. Huh. Yeah, There's gonna
- 28:48be a lot of folks up there, so I'm looking forward to it.
- 28:49All right. We wish you the best look of the campaign. Nick,

- 34:52Saturday afternoon Long with Steve Animal representing ninety eighth sevent the Mountain Wild and Wonderful
- 34:58Classic rob Reel from our sister station KWS was there. We had just a
- 35:04great time and a good time. Saturday night is Charleston Urban Works in the
- 35:07Downtown Charleston Association did the annual Saint Patrick's Pub Crawl downtown. Literally literally thousands
- 35:15of people built the streets Charleston downtown. And what I like to hear is
- 35:21no problems were reported. Nobody got really stupid, and if they did,
- 35:23they got stupid in their own homes, not on the streets of Charleston,
- 35:27which is even more important. Just a lot of good vibes, a lot
- 35:30of good things going on in Charleston with events like this. But to over
- 35:34at the chili cook off, Jeff, I know that you will appreciate this.
- 35:37They asked me to be a judge, and of course, all of
- 35:39the proceeds for this benefit of the Parkinson's Group here in Charleston, led up
- 35:44by George Manahaanan and of those folks, I had forty five different kinds of
- 35:51chili, literally, because they asked me if I would judge the professionals.
- 35:55This was an international chili competition. I mean, the people that won here,
- 36:00the professionals actually get to move on. It's almost like tournaments, you
- 36:04know, speaking of tournament seasons, almost like that, And so I got
- 36:07to sample, got to try those, and then also the local chilies as
- 36:13well, a total of forty five different chilis that I had on Saturday afternoon.
- 36:21And then I had a hard time the rest of the weekn and find
- 36:22anybody to want to hang out with me. For some reason, I don't
- 36:24know why. The David Alan showing five Viny Live is brought to you in

- 36:31coming up with ten oh six with talk line. The future of Senator Joe

- 36:40was able to catch up with a good senator at the tournaments on Friday afternoon
- 36:45to ask him about the possibility of him running for Senate as an independent now.
- 36:50He said that that's off the table, that he's not going to do
- 36:54that. But he also said those famous words, which is never say never.
- 37:01That's the words of Joe Manjit. He actually said never say never.
- 37:05But at least that now it looks like he is not going to be running
- 37:08for anything else, at least for now. A little bit time can change,
- 37:13so Jeff Jenkins had a chance to catch up with Senator Mansion, and
- 37:16he'll join Hobby on the show, comeing up next hour to talk about that.
- 37:20He'll actually play a couple of excerpts in that interview he did from the
- 37:22state tournament with Senator Mansion a couple of days ago. Plus we are going
- 37:25to have more vaccine talk on the show. Joe Bricado will be along with
- 37:30the boys state tournament's wrap up and a preview of both Marshall and WVU women's
- 37:36basketball teams. Both teams making the NCAA Basketball Tournament. How cool is that?
- 37:43Let's talk now with Hobby coming up at ten o six this morning.
- 37:45Now on this show tomorrow, Jason Pizitella is going to join us to talk
- 37:50about the Contractors Expo which is going on over the Kyle Seaman Convention Center.
- 37:53Also, we'll have another candidate for a magistrate here in Kanaha Academy. It's
- 37:58Tressey Cavell. She'll join us tomorrow. And I never know, I mean,
- 38:01is it. I guess pronunciation could be either way. It's either magistrate
- 38:06or magistrate, either one, but I kind of go back and forth and
- 38:09you know, pronounce it both ways. But anyway, Tresi Cavell, who
- 38:14is a candidate for magistrate or magistrate if you prefer in canawacundidate would be joining
- 38:17this on the show coming up tomorrow. I talked about this a little last
- 38:23week and you heard me reference it when I was talking to Nick Quinn earlier.
- 38:28Coming up tonight the town of Bell, and again we had on the
- 38:31show last week the mayor of the town, Dave Fletcher, to talk about
- 38:36it. The Upper Kanaw Valley Mayors Association is going to host a meet the
- 38:39Candidate style forum tonight at Bell Town Hall starting at six o'clock. Now,
- 38:45when I had Mayor Fletcher on the show last week, he told me then
- 38:49that about thirty or so candidates that was as of Thursday, about thirty had
- 38:53signed up for this forum tonight. I want to go ahead and go out
- 38:55on a limb that say that since Mayor Fletcher's appearance on the show on Thursday,
- 39:01probably more signs. Matter of fact, I heard from a couple of
- 39:04candidates heard the interview. It reached out to me and said, how do
- 39:07I get out of this? I said, called Belltown Hall. So you've
- 39:09got everybody there tonight from candidates for local races. I mentioned magistrates, delegates,
- 39:16statewide races. There's candidates for Secretary of State and offices like that.
- 39:21They're going to be there. It starts at six o'clock tonight at the Belltown
- 39:24Hall. So if you're a candidate, you may want to plan on being
- 39:29there tonight. And they've done this several times in the past. That's off
- 39:31to Mayor Fletcher and that entire organization, this Upper canv Valley Mayor's Association for
- 39:37putting this thing on. So if you want to get on the schedule and
- 39:42it starts at six o'clock tonight to Bell Town Hall, just simply call the
- 39:45Belltown Hall. That is the best way to do it. There's going to
- 39:47be a packed house there tonight. Starts at six o'clock at Belltown Hall.
- 39:52If you're planning on going, may want to get there earlier, a little
- 39:54bit early at the Belltown Hall. And god, let's know what these people
- 39:59had to say. You know, there are several meet to candidate style forums
- 40:04being planned. I know, not only here in Kanawha County. I know
- 40:06Putnam County does one of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club over there in
- 40:08Putnam County do a great job with their several of these. Get out and
- 40:13see what the candidates have to say and ask them questions. You know,
- 40:16I have candidates on this show almost daily at this time of year, and
- 40:20you can hear the radio commercials, you can see the TV ads or the
- 40:22online ads or newspaper ads or whatever. But when you have these things,
- 40:27it's your opportunity to actually go out and talk to them and ask them specific
- 40:32questions. So do it. Belltown Hall tonight started at six o'clock. And
- 40:37speaking of such, I have had people ask me talking about candidates about coming
- 40:43on this show to promote their candidacy. I will say, all are welcome
- 40:49here. All you got to do is drop me an email. Email address
- 40:52is Dave dot Allen at wvradio dot com, Dave dot al awvradio dot com.
- 40:58Simply drop me an email and say, hey, Dave, I'm a
- 41:00candidate and I won on the show, and I'll be glad to have you
- 41:05on the show. It is on a first come, first serve basis,
- 41:08so sometimes you have two schools of thought. You have those to say,
- 41:12well, I want to get out of it early. Many people have chosen
- 41:15to take this show as a place to announce their candidacy, which I definitely
- 41:20appreciate, but others say, well, I don't want to go on until
- 41:22the last couple of days, maybe a week or so before the election,
- 41:25or maybe after early voting starts. That's your choice, but just keep in
- 41:29mind that there may not be any s loots available then, And if you
- 41:31want to go ahead and book them now for sometime as we get closer to
- 41:36the male election, that's fine too. I'll again first come, first serve
- 41:39basis. We're talking about a staff of thousands that coordinate these interviews. Okay,
- 41:45thousands meaning me one. So if you want on the schedule to drive
- 41:50me an email Dave dot Allen a wvradio dot com and I will be glad
- 41:53to try my best and get you on the schedule. Dave Allen showing five

- 45:30says mansion is disappointing. He's been a lifelong Democrat, has been supported by
- 45:35the West Rginia Democratic Party, and when the party needs to revamp its image,
- 45:38he abandons it and cries about how Democrats are too far left. West
- 45:44Virginia Democrats aren't coastal elite Democrats. Where's the effort to rebuild Joe? And
- 45:51I will say this for Senator Manchion he's been on this show, I've interviewed
- 45:54him on other places I've been as well. I guess I guess it's all
- 46:00in the eyes of the beholder. But again, I don't know. Maybe
- 46:04I'm completely wrong because I'm not a registered Democrat, but I don't know if
- 46:07Joe Manchin has changed that much. I mean, to me, he's the
- 46:12same Joey's always been. I think the party is what has changed now.
- 46:15When I have folks like Mike Pushkin on the show, State Democratic Party Chair
- 46:20and Dall, a good good friend, I'll have Pushkin on the show and
- 46:22he says, well, the party's not really chicking. The image of the
- 46:27party's changed. And that having been said, so as the image of the
- 46:30Republican Party. I had this conversation with somebody over the weekend. I was
- 46:34talking some politics, which is what I love to do, you know,
- 46:36on my day off. But I was talking to politics with somebody or at
- 46:39the Chilia shootout of a Capitol market on Saturday about this very same thing.
- 46:44And I think both parties have changed drastically. You know. As a Republican
- 46:49we put Ronald Reagan up on the pedestal. Everything is about Reagan. It
- 46:52used to be Kennedy for the Democrats, and it was Reagan for the Republicans.
- 46:58I don't know that Ronald Reagan would be welcome in some Republican circles now,
- 47:04and I know dang sure that John Kennedy would not be welcome in some
- 47:07Democratic circles now. It's just it's the way it is. And the rest
- 47:13of us somewhere in the middle, more moderates, you know, we're vilified.
- 47:17We're called rhinos, and I'm sure they're dinos or dinos, which I
- 47:22guess would be dinos. Sure there's plenty of them in the Democratic Party as
- 47:27well too. The extremes are taken over. The extremes have absolutely, in
- 47:30my opinion, taken over both parties. I don't recognize what the Republican Party
- 47:36has become. And there's a lot of Democrats, my brethren on the Democratic
- 47:39side, they'll say, I don't recognize what the Democratic parties become either.
- 47:44I want to go back to the legislature for a moment and discuss a house
- 47:47built fifty one oh five. Fifty one oh five would remove vaccination requirements for
- 47:52students in virtual public schools, and would also allow private and parochial schools to
- 47:58set their own standards. Now, the bill passed both the House and the
- 48:00Senate, and now they play the wait and see thing with the governor as
- 48:09to whether or not he'll sign it. Veto it allowed to pass that a
- 48:13signature whatever. Brad has a in depth story about it posted at wvmetronews dot
- 48:19com. And Brad's story has to do with the wheeling Charleston Diocese Bishop Mark
- 48:25Mark Brennan. He was on with Hoppy and he says, the bishop that
- 48:30they have no plans to change their policies as it pertains to immunizations. Now,
- 48:35Bishop Drennan Brendan says they'll be going with standards that the public schools follows.
- 48:42And I was looking at the numbers contained in Brad's story. Twelve thousand,
- 48:46four hundred and ninety four students in West Virginia are in some sort of
- 48:53a of a non public school, with one hundred and forty three in parochial
- 48:57schools. There are twenty five thousand, eight hundred and eighty two students in
- 49:02West Virginia that are homeschooled. That's a lot and a lot of those numbers
- 49:09went way up during and after COVID, and it has been reported that West
- 49:16Virginia has just about the best, if not one of the best school vaccination
- 49:23programs in America. And it's something my opinion, that we we in West
- 49:31Virginia can be proud of in a place where West Virginia doesn't always have the
- 49:37most top numbers and the good stuff, if you know what I mean.
- 49:43And there would be those though that say that those vaccination numbers that we've had
- 49:50over the last several decades in West Virginia, west Virginia pretty much leading the
- 49:53nation in this, that they're not something to be proud of. So I
- 50:00guess it depends on your perspective. Now, as for the governor and the
- 50:07humanization bill, he he could go either way of this, to be honest.
- 50:12And one person that spoke out against the bill and I got to work
- 50:15to have him on again soon is a frequent guest of the show, Fred
- 50:17Albert, who is the head of the American Federation of Teachers. Now he's
- 50:22quoted in Brad's story as saying he is all for freedom and choice for parents,
- 50:27but this particular bill, according to mister Albert, is full of loopholes,
- 50:34and he went on to say. I think this was at a state
- 50:37board meeting. I think last week that he's urging people to contact the governor
- 50:43to tell Governor Justice to stand up to the bill. And again, I
- 50:49don't have any inside information as to what Governor Justice is going to do.
- 50:52He's you know, in his media briefings, he's kind of gone either way
- 50:57on it. So again, go read this story Brads got posted at WV
