Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This episode of the Chuck Podcast is brought to you
- 0:02Speaker 1: by Ethos and what Ethos does is it helps you
- 0:04Speaker 1: find life insurance. Let me tell you why life insurance
- 0:07Speaker 1: bailed me out. My father died when I was sixteen.
- 0:09Speaker 1: We didn't have a lot of money when it happened,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and we were in a pretty tough financial spot after
- 0:14Speaker 1: it happened. I'm an only child. Suddenly my mother's single,
- 0:18Speaker 1: single mother. She had a job, suddenly lost a job,
- 0:21Speaker 1: looking for another job, and we were struggling. You know,
- 0:23Speaker 1: my dad didn't leave us in the best financial situation,
- 0:27Speaker 1: but he did make one purchase. He bought a life
- 0:29Speaker 1: insurance policy. Wasn't a huge chunk of change, but it
- 0:32Speaker 1: was enough when we found it. And when I say
- 0:35Speaker 1: we found it, meaning we went through his desk and
- 0:36Speaker 1: we found, oh, look at this, let's see if there's
- 0:38Speaker 1: anything here. And it helped us out at a time
- 0:41Speaker 1: that we really needed it. And that's why I think
- 0:43Speaker 1: it's important that if you can, especially if you have
- 0:47Speaker 1: young children, if you can get life insurance, you should
- 0:50Speaker 1: get it. Life is full of unexpected emergencies, unexpected things happen.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It is an extra bit of security, something you can
- 0:58Speaker 1: leave and help out at a time when you're not
- 1:01Speaker 1: you're not there to help. So what does Ethos do well?

- 1:49Speaker 1: Trump and words right, It began all the way in
- 1:52Speaker 1: twenty fifteen and twenty sixteen with the ridiculous Do you
- 1:55Speaker 1: take them seriously? Do you take them literally? And here
- 1:59Speaker 1: we are again, we are in our eleventh year of
- 2:02Speaker 1: Donald Trump dominating American politics, and we still don't know
- 2:07Speaker 1: whether we should take his words literally, seriously or both.
- 2:12Speaker 1: He found a way in his latest tweet to be
- 2:15Speaker 1: both menacing and meaningless. If that's possible, he figured it out.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So he tweets out this morning, a whole civilization will
- 2:24Speaker 1: die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don't
- 2:26Speaker 1: want that to happen, but it probably will. Let's just
- 2:30Speaker 1: sit on that for a minute. The sitting president of
- 2:33Speaker 1: the United States is threatening to annihilate an entire civilization.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And we know he's not serious about it. At least
- 2:43Speaker 1: we're like ninety five percent. I'm ninety five percent sure
- 2:46Speaker 1: he's not serious about it. The guy is a chicken hawk.
- 2:49Speaker 1: He's all of those things, right, you know, he's the
- 2:53Speaker 1: classic bully. You punch him in the nose, who'd go
- 2:55Speaker 1: running to mommy to complain and running nose, he will punt,
- 2:58Speaker 1: He will sue somebody than fight back, right that. That
- 3:01Speaker 1: is who he really is. And this is no tough guy.
- 3:04Speaker 1: This is a guy who is you know, no matter
- 3:07Speaker 1: what age he was, he ran from a fight. He
- 3:11Speaker 1: is the classic guy that wants that goaded everybody else
- 3:14Speaker 1: into the fight, and he wants to sit back and watch.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And we all knew those sort of chicken those chicken
- 3:21Speaker 1: hawks and those bullies. I had my own run in
- 3:24Speaker 1: with once, and I remember the feeling of empowerment. Wait
- 3:27Speaker 1: a minute, when I punched back, they just ran and
- 3:29Speaker 1: complained to their mommy. This really happened. That's who he is,
- 3:34Speaker 1: and we know this. But is at the same time,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you sit here and if you really want to go
- 3:42Speaker 1: down a rabbit hole, right Pete Haigseth is just fired.
- 3:48Speaker 1: General's very high up out of nowhere, really for no reason.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And now you're wonder jeez, are they trying to clear
- 3:54Speaker 1: the chain of command of anybody that might get in
- 3:58Speaker 1: the way of some horrendous order that may be given
- 4:01Speaker 1: by the commander in chief? So I understand why some
- 4:06Speaker 1: in the conspiracy minded set have gone down some really
- 4:10Speaker 1: ugly rabbit holes based on this tweet, and it's probably
- 4:14Speaker 1: by design. I should read the rest of it. A
- 4:18Speaker 1: whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I don't want to have that happen, but it probably will. However,
- 4:24Speaker 1: now that we have complete and total regime change, where different,
- 4:28Speaker 1: smarter and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily his word,
- 4:33Speaker 1: not mine, wonderful can happen. Who knows all caps We
- 4:37Speaker 1: will find out tonight one of the most important moments
- 4:39Speaker 1: in the long and complex history of the world. Forty
- 4:41Speaker 1: seven years of extortion, corruption and death will finally end.
- 4:44Speaker 1: God bless the great people of Iran. So right, the
- 4:49Speaker 1: entire truth post is filled with all sorts of contradictions,
- 4:54Speaker 1: the typical blowhardiness. And you know, there's certainly a discount
- 4:59Speaker 1: that we've all. I'm sure everybody gives their own discount
- 5:02Speaker 1: to Trump language. I discount it probably more than others do,
- 5:08Speaker 1: because I've seen how often his words have been meaningless.
- 5:12Speaker 1: But you can't ever say, you know, it should be
- 5:16Speaker 1: at zero. I mean, you know, I didn't think he
- 5:18Speaker 1: would be this dumb to start a war he didn't
- 5:21Speaker 1: know how to end, which he's clearly done with Iran.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But that's what happens when you clear out any points
- 5:29Speaker 1: of friction, right he is he has created the conditions
- 5:33Speaker 1: in the second term that he is surrounded by, yes people,
- 5:37Speaker 1: nobody is pushing back. Even those that pushback, they do
- 5:39Speaker 1: so so gently that it doesn't even look like a pushback.
- 5:44Speaker 1: But this is some scary stuff. And you know, there's
- 5:50Speaker 1: certainly a part of me that has been concerned that
- 5:54Speaker 1: putting my best Trump brain on right, how does Trump think? Well,
- 6:00Speaker 1: the way Trump would think is Harry Truman dropped the
- 6:04Speaker 1: bomb in Japan's now our ally right. And it's always
- 6:10Speaker 1: the simplest facts that seemed to be the ones he
- 6:17Speaker 1: carries with him. I remember a moment he when before
- 6:24Speaker 1: he decided to fire Comy, he sort of spitballed the
- 6:27Speaker 1: idea during one of my conversations with him in his
- 6:30Speaker 1: first term. Well, everybody like that, everybody hates Comy, And
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't think that's going to work out
- 6:35Speaker 1: the way you think it's going to work out. So
- 6:41Speaker 1: if you were to tell me he actually asked, well,
- 6:45Speaker 1: why not on the idea of dropping a tactical nuke,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I don't think any of us would be shocked. I
- 6:52Speaker 1: really do believe that somebody would remind him that, you know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: the Middle East is kind of a small place, so
- 6:57Speaker 1: you're going to you tried that, you pretty much could.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I don't know poison millions, kill millions, the after on effects,
- 7:09Speaker 1: the radiation, all that stuff. So I don't think it's
- 7:14Speaker 1: I don't think you have I don't think you have
- 7:16Speaker 1: to take them seriously or excuse me, take them literally.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But we have to. You have to take some of
- 7:23Speaker 1: his threats seriously because he's already followed through to a
- 7:27Speaker 1: point and he's certainly gotten the entire world into this mess.
- 7:34Speaker 1: On this front, it's probably of little comfort, but you know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: I do not believe he's going to do something this rash.
- 7:43Speaker 1: It is worth noting that officially, the news organization AFP
- 7:54Speaker 1: Confirm got a confirmation from the White House that a
- 7:56Speaker 1: nuclear bomb is not being considered for use in Iran.
- 8:01Speaker 1: But just imagine that that had to be asked, and
- 8:04Speaker 1: it's given what he said, what choice did you have?
- 8:07Speaker 1: But as a responsible wire service reporter of just double checking,
- 8:11Speaker 1: is you know, is the nuclear option on the table?
- 8:14Speaker 1: And apparently the White House said no, it is not.
- 8:20Speaker 1: But American credibility is now shit. Okay, I mean he is,
- 8:26Speaker 1: we are are We're a leaderless world the United States.
- 8:30Speaker 1: It's advocate abdicated, it's leadership of the world. We are
- 8:35Speaker 1: now causing more problems than solving. That has not been
- 8:39Speaker 1: what American leadership over the last eighty years has been about.
- 8:42Speaker 1: We're there to try to solve problems. We are now
- 8:45Speaker 1: creating problems. We have we are. We are the source
- 8:50Speaker 1: of energy price spikes around the world, as Daniel Jurgen
- 8:55Speaker 1: told me, the worst energy shock we've ever experienced ever,
- 9:00Speaker 1: all thanks to a war of choice by Donald John Trump.
- 9:06Speaker 1: He's frustrated that he launched a war and the Iranians
- 9:10Speaker 1: fought back. He clearly was either misled into this, felt
- 9:17Speaker 1: cocky because of how easy he thought Venezuela was. But
- 9:20Speaker 1: by the way, he is still overseeing a dictatorship. I'm sorry,
- 9:24Speaker 1: by the way, I don't mean to go down that
- 9:26Speaker 1: rabbit hole. But the fact that he's bragging that Venezuela's
- 9:29Speaker 1: a success, it is not a success. It is not
- 9:31Speaker 1: a democracy. Mister president, do you if you want to
- 9:35Speaker 1: know if he cares about democracy? We know the answer
- 9:37Speaker 1: is no. He is preventing it from taking place in Venezuela.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So what do you think he wants anywhere else? I'm
- 9:45Speaker 1: sorry to see people that have cared about this issue
- 9:48Speaker 1: for as long as they have. I'm looking at you,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Marco Rubio, that you're just looking the other way while
- 9:52Speaker 1: he essentially takes advantage of a Maduro puppet and has
- 9:56Speaker 1: made a Maduro puppet a Trump puppet. That what you've
- 10:00Speaker 1: been fighting for? Is that what so many of our
- 10:04Speaker 1: South Florida friends and families have been fighting for, to
- 10:09Speaker 1: turn one puppet into another puppet. So look, I am,
- 10:22Speaker 1: here's the real struggle here. He is now handing propaganda
- 10:28Speaker 1: winds to the Iranians. Right, He's the one using bombastic language.
- 10:33Speaker 1: He's the one using very uncomfortable and infusing religion into
- 10:45Speaker 1: this fight in ways that are a bit crusade like
- 10:49Speaker 1: and a bit and very much on American on this
- 10:53Speaker 1: front and these threats. And he doesn't care if what
- 11:00Speaker 1: is he if what he orders looks like a war crime,
- 11:05Speaker 1: He's not bothered by it at all. Now, look, this
- 11:10Speaker 1: is the same guy that at his rallies, I mean,
- 11:12Speaker 1: the only thing that I think, you know, the only
- 11:15Speaker 1: people we have to blame ourselves on this. It's not
- 11:17Speaker 1: as if Donald Trump didn't tell us this is who
- 11:19Speaker 1: he is. This is the same guy that at rally
- 11:22Speaker 1: said I wish we could take him out on a stretcher. Right.
- 11:26Speaker 1: He embraces pugilism, He likes the spectacle of violence. This
- 11:32Speaker 1: is a man who thinks mixed martial arts on the
- 11:34Speaker 1: White House lawn to celebrate America's two hundred and fiftieth
- 11:37Speaker 1: anniversary is an appropriate thing to do. I'm not here
- 11:41Speaker 1: to trash mma. I know a lot of people love it.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I'm not sure it's the most patriotic thing to do
- 11:49Speaker 1: on the White House lawn on the fourth of July
- 11:51Speaker 1: or for his birthday or whatever the hell it is
- 11:53Speaker 1: that he that he's concocted here. But he has made
- 11:58Speaker 1: it clear he sort of seems to want to play
- 12:03Speaker 1: with these toys, and it's it's beyond irresponsible rhetoric. We've
- 12:13Speaker 1: so we're so far past where are the adults in
- 12:16Speaker 1: the room. If there are any adults that exist in
- 12:19Speaker 1: the in the elected Republican party in Washington, then then
- 12:24Speaker 1: they must be curled up in a fetal position, afraid
- 12:27Speaker 1: of their own shadow, because none of them are speaking up.
- 12:30Speaker 1: There's not a single elected Republican that I've interacted with
- 12:34Speaker 1: that would support anybody speaking this way unless it was
- 12:39Speaker 1: Donald Trump. They're so afraid of criticizing Donald Trump that
- 12:43Speaker 1: they won't say anything. And now you can't undermine the
- 12:47Speaker 1: credibility that I mean, it puts us in a situation
- 12:50Speaker 1: where if you undermine the credibility of our commander in
- 12:53Speaker 1: chief and undermind's the credibility the United States, It certainly is,
- 12:56Speaker 1: you know, but this war is going to now do
- 12:59Speaker 1: more more long term damage to America's ability to lead
- 13:04Speaker 1: the world to how much repair is going to be
- 13:08Speaker 1: necessary for the next president, regardless of party, and what
- 13:12Speaker 1: they're going to have to do to try to win
- 13:14Speaker 1: back trust from our friends and allies, let alone rivals
- 13:19Speaker 1: and adversaries. And no matter what decision he makes tonight,
- 13:28Speaker 1: he is in some ways already punted away that credibility.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Either he doubles down, doubles down on it and follows
- 13:36Speaker 1: through and commits some atrocities that we can't undo and
- 13:41Speaker 1: will be a stain on the United States for decades,
- 13:45Speaker 1: or a tacos and he we're in this stalemate, in quagmire,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and he continues to, you know, find himself in political
- 13:55Speaker 1: quicksand and he's stuck in his Chinese finger trap, and
- 13:59Speaker 1: you know, and he continues to in some ways hand
- 14:03Speaker 1: you know, we're militarily defeating the Iranians and simultaneously handing
- 14:07Speaker 1: them propaganda tools with his words and his his behavior.
- 14:14Speaker 1: So bottom line is like I called I called these
- 14:19Speaker 1: I called this these words menacing and meaningless we know
- 14:24Speaker 1: they're meaningless, they're intentionally menacing. I guess he thinks this
- 14:32Speaker 1: is some sort of art of the deal. But the
- 14:35Speaker 1: one thing that I don't think he fully understands is
- 14:37Speaker 1: you know what Iranians love to do. Negotiate, and they're
- 14:41Speaker 1: going to negotiate and negotiate and negotiate. They're not coming.
- 14:46Speaker 1: This is a regime that already killed its own people
- 14:49Speaker 1: for protesting. What do you think they're afraid of? That's
- 14:53Speaker 1: the problem he's got here. These threats ring hollow because
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm not sure those in charge of this regime who
- 15:00Speaker 1: are just trying to survive, see any incentive to play
- 15:05Speaker 1: ball here. So on that uncomfortable note, uh, I'll see
- 15:10Speaker 1: you tomorrow with a full episode of the Chuck Podcast.
- 15:14Speaker 1: H
